I work a basic B.S production job and Althing sucks here, we have the best supervisor who’s motto is “Get your shit done each day and I won’t ride you for how fast you work, or if you need to use your phone throughout”. He was the guy that treated us so well that we wanted to go above and beyond for to ensure he looked good for the other supervisors… Well last week he was demoted from being a supervisor because according to his supervisor he: - Wasn’t riding is enough during the day which was causing us to be “Lazy”

• Was to easy going on people texting during production even though his team meet all quotas.
  
• Would let people on his team leave on time if they had prior obligations, instead of forcing overtime, because he would jump in and fill the void.
  
• wouldn’t set goals that he couldn’t obtain himself during a regular work day.
  
• Would B.S with us during the work day to make the department more fun and enjoyable.
  

His replacement is already know in the company as he fits our company’s stereotypical “Slave driver” mentality and is the “Well let’s bust ass all day and exhaust our skeleton crew so we can be slightly ahead instead of on time”

TLDR: The Atlanta Braves baseball team is the only publicly traded baseball team. DFV just posted a picture that was already tweeted by Gamestop, difference being he drew some Red Socks on the image. The Braves played the Red Sox last Tuesday and Wednesday, which led me down an incredible rabbit hole.

Neil Gaiman’s “American God’s” sits unfinished on my dresser but weighs heavily on my mind. This movement feels like the New God’s fighting the Old Gods. Wednesday, Odin’s day of magic, The Braves played the Boston Red Sox and won 5-0 but there was an ill feeling in the air as the message above was broadcast on all the tv’s in the stadium including the big screen over centerfield and for those of us watching from home. Feels like a message was being sent but something caught my eye in the very first sentence. “Bankruptcy”, Cohencidence #1. I started asking myself questions and the most important was, “Who, own’s Bally network?”. The Sinclair Group and Allen Media Group.
The Sinclair Group wasn’t really eye catching for me until I saw Dr. Ben Carson is on the board of directors. Cohencidence #2 as he’s close to Trump, who’s potentially part of this new entity being created. I could taste the tin foil slowly twisting my brain like a hamster named Algernon running non-stop on a hamster wheel, while high thinking “why am I running?”. I click on the about page and see this:

He’s been through economic downturn before as he watched the company he built be sold off after making decisions to merge with Time Warner in the 90’s and AOL-Time Warner in 2001. It’s estimated the deals cost him 7 Billion dollars. I wonder who advised him.
Ted is a philanthropist. At one time Ted was the largest private landowner in the United States until John C. Malone surpassed him in 2011. Ted brought Buffalo back from dwindling numbers. What once was 30k now boasts numbers well over 400k. He knows how to take things, create something new and make them grow. He’s a 2013 recipient of the Lone Sailor Award, given to Sea Service veterans, who have excelled with distinction in their respective careers during or after their service. John C. Malone started Liberty media and he’s been dubbed “Darth Vader” in business dealings, allegedly by Al Gore. Makes that Dumb Storm Troopers line hit differently from RC. Malone and Ted Turner are really good friends with similar ideals. Malone has said “I would never step on his toes” for the sake of business. Both have a contentious relationship with media mogul Rupert Murdoch, founder of News Corp. Ted and Rupert have beef from a boating incident and of course John has his good friends back. So, much so, that he starts buying up shares of News Corp. I keep searching until I find these two paragraphs on Liberty’s Wiki page:

I thought I would rank WVU after their new uniforms were released a few weeks ago. I intend on ranking most of the Big XII teams and new PAC additions (Arizona and Utah) soon. In fact, I already covered Colorado, ASU, Oklahoma State and TCU if you want to scratch that uniform itch. 11. Yellow/Yellow/Yellow - Week 4 vs TTU (W, 20-13)

The Gold Rush tradition in Morgantown started in 2007, and has had a pretty interesting history, including a College Gameday appearance, a 2012 heartbreaker against OU, a 2013 30-21 smash of No. 11 OSU, and several other wild finishes in WV. While I love the history and the crowd involvement, this 2019 jersey template is just too blank to properly allow gold uniforms to shine (I know I put “Yellow” in the combo, that's purely for convenience, I mean no disrespect at all). The new 2024 uniforms - which we’ll showcase at the end - do a much better job of providing a structure to the Gold Rush look, but these are, again, simply too much and too bold.
10. Yellow/Gray/Gray - Week 2 vs Duquesne (W, 56-17)

Ah, the gray. We’ll see another gray example later on, but I think the gray suits just work out better when mixed with blue. The yellow creates an odd balance, and makes the suit feel top heavy. Yellow pants may have helped the look, but I’m not sure I like that idea, either. I do like the complementary yellow font outline to the helmet, and hey, it was a brand-new look! That’s got to count for something.
9. Blue/Blue/Blue - Military Appreciation Week 10 vs BYU (W, 37-7)

Nothing inherently wrong with this look, I think that, again, it falls victim to the monochrome pitfalls of this 2019 update, just like the yellow/gold. The Military Edition state outline is an awesome touch, and the blue really isn't that bad compared with an all gray or all yellow, it’s just not a top pick. This same uniform and decal combo was worn in 2022 against OU, so it must be a tradition thing. The choices start getting a lot harder from here on out.
8. Blue/White/Yellow - Week 1 at Penn State (L, 15-38)

For some reason, this is always a WVU fan favorite. For the life of me I can’t figure it out. Anyone who has tuned in to my tracker knows I don’t really like tri-color looks, and this is another instance where it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe I need some convincing, maybe I’m wrong, who knows? It just doesn’t work for me. On another note, how did WVU select the Mountaineer as a mascot? Well, it's built into the location. West Virginia is known as the Mountain State because it is the only state entirely within the Appalachian Mountain region, out of the 13 states that the Appalachian Mountains pass through. Thus, residents are known as Mountaineers. The word is even featured on the state seal/motto - Montani Semper Liberi (English: "Mountaineers are Always Free"), which has remained steadfast since the state’s founding in 1863. This same phrase is embroidered on the inside collar of the uniforms, new and old. As far as we’re aware, WVU sports programs went by “the Mountaineers” starting in 1890, and have continued ever since!
7. Blue/White/White - Week 7 at UH (L, 39-41)

This was an absolutely psycho game to watch, featuring UH’s wild tip drill antics wearing their black alternates. Here, WVU wore a mostly white uniform capped off by their blue “Cue Country Roads” helmet introduced in this year’s Backyard Brawl. And yes, this look is clean. The font differentiates the white nicely, the helmet is busy enough to compensate for some of the stark white, and the suit is - of course - helped by a night game against a team wearing black. I won’t blab anymore, they're nice. The white is just a little bit too simplistic here. Pant stripes will definitely help in the new suits.
6. Blue/Gray/Blue - Week 13 at Baylor (W, 34-31)

One of the more eclectic away combos I’ve ever seen, this look makes me sad that the gray has been officially put out of commission. It’s actually the first time WVU wore gray on the road and only the sixth gray game usage since 2019. It definitely works better as a road combo against the dark green of Baylor. The blue looks great sandwiching the gray suit, but the yellow outline feels a little out of place in this uniform as opposed to the white or blue majority uniforms. Lots of upside, but just enough complaints to keep it at the 6 spot.
5. White/White/White - Week 11 at OU (L, 20-59)

I can’t get over these beautiful helmets. West Virginia’s helmet is a work of art. Using the decal popularized by the “Cue Country Roads” uniforms from the past two years on an otherwise clean white shell was a stroke of genius. The more detailed logo draws the eye compared to the stark white jersey and pants, while the large blue numbers help in breaking up the field. Still, this look may have looked a little bit better with some blue pants, or at least more blue accessories like shoes, belts, and gloves. The blue facemask is a start, but yeah, I like this look a lot. Still, the helmet puts these way up on my list.
4. Blue/White/Blue - Week 9 at UCF (W, 41-28)

While I like the blue/gray sandwich in #6, this is definitely a more improved version. The overall flow of the uniform feels better here. No outline on the numbers helps keep things clean and matches the top and bottom nicely. How did WVU originally pick their colors? Simple. They’re featured in the state seal. These colors were adopted by the school in 1890, inspired by the West Virginia state seal, featuring a boulder that has been inscribed with the state’s founding - June 20, 1863. In front of the boulder lies two crossed rifles and a Grecian liberty cap as a symbol of the state's fight for liberty. The two men on either side of the boulder represent agriculture and industry. It’s as simple as that! This program really does represent state pride like no other. We're almost to the top spots!
3. Blue/Blue/Yellow - Week 8 vs OSU (L, 48-34) and Week 12 vs UC (W, 42-21)

Ah. The podium is here. These next three picks were all highly debated and could very well go either way. This look is obviously the most traditional of the wardrobe, and has been worn three times since I started tracking publicly in 2022. And of course, it’s one of the most recognizable combos for the Mountaineers in general. For me, I am especially reminded of Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Geno Smith lighting up the scoreboard against Baylor with Terrence Williams in 2012. I was just beginning to enjoy and follow college football more often, and this game really sparked an interest in me, especially as 2012 was a good KSU year AND WVU’s Big 12 opener. The yellow pants provide a great contrast to the blue. And the flying WV logo is one of the few “letter logos” that I think works really well. You just can’t beat it despite the pitfalls of the 2019 template. The 2024 version will be a sight to behold and could very well cement itself in first place next year. Beautiful, classic, and a no-brainer pick for a medal.
2. White/White/Blue - Week 5 at TCU (W, 24-21)

What sets this one apart from all the other away combos? Unlike a lot of the other WVU suits, this one almost completely removes yellow while still feeling balanced in color. The only yellow on these are splashed on the helmet and hip logo. The blue may originally seem to weigh the look down, but once you add the large blue logo on the helmet and balance it with the almost all white on the rest of the suit, you get a magnificent away look. It combines the benefit of a crisp white out with the “semi-symmetry” - if you will - from a X/Y/X sandwich look. Just beautiful, and the most “modern” feeling of the year’s combos.

And finally, first place! Last year, we saw the amazing and incredible away version of this uniform. This year’s home version featured a perfect gold usage which felt balanced yet bold. The symmetrical blues, liberal use of gold, sublimated WV road map, the consistent striping on the helmet and pants, “Mountaineers” wordmark on the chest all topped off by that immaculate gold WV state outline is oh so wonderful. I mean, how is it possible to kick this much ass? It’s everything wonderful about the away uniforms added to a more traditional color scheme that, wow. Honestly, the picture itself does a great job. Creative, symmetrical, and a color scheme everyone loves, this is a grand slam design.

The 2024 suits honor the past traditions of WVU uniforms while also improving on the initial 2019 update through the new Nike F.U.S.E template. They maintain the updated 2019 color scheme and font, feature the fairly new state-outline WVU logo from the 2022 and 2023 “Cue Country Roads” alternates (both on the collar and helmet options), and add on some striping, shoulder accents, and wordmarks. The Flying WV returned to the sleeves for the first time since 2012 with wide acclaim. Also a feature of the Don Nehlen era are the pants stripes dating back to the 60s-90s. The most controversial piece of the uniform are those USC reminiscent 2007-2012 shoulder accents. My overall thoughts? It's a great update. 2019 was far too plain. The color scheme helps, but here the colors get a wonderful structure to build upon. The WV sleeves, the wordmark, and pant stripes are amazing touches, but I think the shoulder accents just add a little too much clutter to an otherwise perfect front. Overall, the helmets are mostly unchanged, the jerseys are a slight improvement, and the pants are a massive step up. I’d give the update an 8/10! Additionally, the Mountaineers released an inspired “Coal Dust” alternate honoring the storied tradition of West Virginian coal mining. They use a unique and fascinating coal pattern pulled straight off an actual coal mine tour, incorporate a black and white state-outline logo on the helmet that is to die for, and use gray/white vertical stripes in a way that tastefully mimics high visibility vests worn by miners. The center stripe on the helmet is my favorite touch, featuring the coal pattern used on the uniform, but with a white to transparent gradient mimicking the light of a miner's headlamp. I mean, this is a blackout look done right. I am so excited to see these in action. Combined together, the main and alternate looks for WVU are all very exciting and definite improvements!
If you’ve got some time, send a nice email to the athletics department design team of Kristin Coldsnow, Matt Wells, Michael Fragale, Joe Swan and Steve Uryasz, who designed the brand new 2024 look. The team worked in conjunction with football equipment managers Dan Nehlen and Austin Blake, who also deserve some praise for the fantastic job they are doing. The EQ room is a tough place to work, and these fine folks kill it day in and day out.

Wednesday, Odin’s day of magic, The Braves played the Boston Red Sox and won 5-0 but there was an ill feeling in the air as this message was broadcast on all the tv’s in the stadium including the big screen over centerfield and for those of us watching from home:
" Bally Sport is no longer available. The owner of Bally Sports is in bankruptcy proceedings and we have offered them multiple options to continue carrying their networks. They have declined each one and we no longer have the rights to continue carrying their content. As a result, we'll be issuing proactive monthly credits to customers for the loss of this network."
That statement sounds an awful lot like someone chose to turn the buy button off. Feels like a message was being sent but something caught my eye in the very first sentence. “Bankruptcy”, Cohencidence #1. I started asking myself questions and the most important was, “Who, own’s Bally network?”. The Sinclair Group and Allen Media Group.
The Sinclair Group wasn’t really eye catching for me until I saw Dr. Ben Carson is on the board of directors. Cohencidence #2 as he’s close to Trump, who’s potentially part of this new entity being created. Time Warner would eventually sell off the teams. He’s been through economic downturn before as he watched the company he built be sold off after making decisions to merge with Time Warner in the 90’s and AOL-Time Warner in 2001, which resulted in him losing the majority vote to the board. It’s estimated the deals cost him 7 Billion dollars. I wonder who advised him.
Ted is a philanthropist. At one time Ted was the largest private landowner in the United States until John C. Malone surpassed him in 2011. Ted brought Buffalo back from dwindling numbers. What once was 30k now boasts numbers well over 400k. He knows how to take things, create something new and make them grow. He’s a 2013 recipient of the Lone Sailor Award, given to Sea Service veterans, who have excelled with distinction in their respective careers during or after their service. With renewed vigor, I keep going. Who the hell is Liberty Media? Why were the Braves transferred and not sold?
John C. Malone started Liberty media and he’s been dubbed “Darth Vader” in business dealings, allegedly by Al Gore. Makes that Dumb Storm Troopers line hit differently from RC. Malone and Ted Turner are really good friends with similar ideals. Malone has said “I would never step on his toes” for the sake of business. Both have a contentious relationship with media mogul Rupert Murdoch, founder of News Corp. Ted and Rupert have beef from a boating incident and of course John has his good friends back. So, much so, that he starts buying up shares of News Corp. I keep searching until I find these two paragraphs on Liberty’s Wiki page:

MASSACHUSETTS NUMEROLOGY DECODE

Interestingly enough, we don't hear much about this state. It's almost easy to overlook or straight up forget unless you are looking at a map. Hardik Pandya, MI captain: Tough one. As a batting unit, the foundation was there but we could not capitalise and that cost us. The wicket was tacky, so momentum was important but after that we couldn't capitalise. Their score was par, given the conditions I thought the bowlers did well. When the balls returned from the boundary, it hit the cover and was wet. They did well. It seemed par but was a winning total. Just want to go and enjoy, play good cricket. That's been the motto from the start but we haven't played enough good cricket.

Andre Russell: We batted first, knew it was sticky and that there was a bit for the spinners. Knew it was a good score with our spin attack. We knew there was a big boundary too and tried using it. Our bowlers have won it. (Getting SKY out again) always enjoy the challenge. He's a fantastic player, 360 guy. Got the better of him tonight, hope it keeps going. I've just kept believing. The older and more experienced you get, cricket gets easier. You know your role better. I've kept fit. Gautam, coach and support staff have allowed me to go in at 12 and bat freely. I've been doing as much talking as much as I can. We have youngsters who want to learn, which makes it easier for seniors. We always have a group around us. This is the love and passion, which is why we're doing so well.

Shreyas Iyer, KKR captain: I manifested before the game that we'd get through. We were playing fantastic cricket, boys have taken responsibility. There have many game-changers. The boys have shown great attitude and it was on display today. I feel the team that plays the best wins, we have a mindset to win from any situation. They were going great after the first six but we were great. Wasn't thinking about stats or records. Today was a new day and the weather wasn't great. We did well which is what's important. (On given Chakravarthy the 4th over and Harshit the final over) I feel which bowler is bowling better on the day is what better. Varun bowled awesome. It was difficult to play his leggies in the nets yesterday. Went with my guts and it came off.

Varun Chakravarthy, Player of the Match: I'd never taken Rohit bhai's wicket, l'd meticulously planned and it came off. Plan was to make him hit across the line and not through the line. Narine and I do talk. Tactically we are different, technically we are similar. There are similarities. I see what we do well, where we are improving. Have done the same thing. Wickets were too flat initially. Mis-hits were going for six. I've been bowling the same, results are coming now.

Eventually he managed to persuade the safety pod to let him out. It had stubbornly urged him to stay inside for his own protection while it sent out a distress signal.
“A recovery team is being sent to your coordinates,” it had told him, “You are advised to remain inside. Please keep your limbs within the pod at all times and await rescue. Thank you for your cooperation.”
“No one is coming,” he had replied in exasperation, “The people that built you have long since turned to stardust.”
“65 Syngman Bb is a class-C planet currently unsuitable for human life. Hazardous conditions are guaranteed.”
“You think I don’t know that?” he’d scolded it, “I was born on this miserable rock. I’m well aware of the dangers.”
Still, he had waited around for a bit to see if the machine would make good on its promise. In that time he’d tried to catch a nap inside the safety of the pod even though it reeked to high heaven. But after an hour the stuffiness and stink had driven him briefly insane and he’d demanded his release, stamping his foot like a petulant brat. He’d conjured up an irrational suspicion in his head that the reason the pod wasn’t letting him out was that it was physically incapable of obeying his commands, having perhaps taken too much damage in the crash. The last thing he wanted was to be entombed alive inside it.
Then the pod wall in front of him slid aside and Rene felt the hot blast of the tropical breeze as a new world sprang to life before his eyes. The Aeronautical Division had never flown this far north to his knowledge—all of this was virgin territory. The lithobraking bladders had deflated shortly after landing and lowered the pod gently to the ground.
Rene stepped out onto the rich black loam of the jungle. And a jungle it was, that and then some. The shortest trees were at least sixty feet tall, while the tallest gave him a crick in the neck when he tried see where their branches ended. Ropy strangler vines wound around the crooked trunks, weaving a loom so thick that he could barely make out the suns. In fact he wasn’t entirely sure it was daytime anymore. From the sparseness of the undergrowth it was clear that not much could grow under the total shadow of the canopy.
“Alright, trooper,” he said to himself, “What now?”
Oxygen narcosis would kill him in a matter of hours. He was beginning to regret opening the pod and letting out all the good air, though he doubted it would have lasted very long anyway with that great big crack in the glass. Besides, he couldn’t bear another hour stuck in that cesspit. He’d made quite a mess in there, and he rather hoped that the spirit in the pod wouldn’t take offense.
Which was quite ridiculous, really. He had bigger things to worry about than offending an incorporeal presence. He was going to rupture his lungs out here in a matter of hours. Either that, or starve to death, or sprout mold across his skin like Lethway, or perish of thirst, or get gobbled up by some exotic new lifeform yet to be named by science. Or worse, the Amits could come creeping up on him in the night while he lay delirious. All he would feel were claws digging into the soft flesh of his neck, and then…
“You’re being hysterical,” Deschane would’ve told him right about now, “Act like you’ve got a pair, trooper. Remember your training.”
What training? Three years in officer training school? His mother has been so proud when he’d been accepted into the elite Pathfinder Regiment. It had meant that his family received additional weekly rations. Even better, they had earned the right to add a five by four foot living extension to their living quarters, which was just large enough for him to crawl into at bedtime and save his parents the trouble of stuffing themselves and three fully grown children into a chamber that could barely hold two people. Yes, he’d had it somewhat soft as an officer, however lowly his position. For one thing, it had meant that he only had to complete the barest minimum of an infantryman’s training regimen. A regimen which included, incidentally, several courses on surviving in the wilderness. Skills like building a fire without flint and steel, constructing makeshift breathing apparatuses in case of gasmask failure, or even fashioning those crude but highly effective stone weapons like the Amits were so fond of using; these things had been given lesser priority than topics like strategy, logistics, small-unit tactics, cartography, navigation and basic firearms drills.
As such, Rene had only taken the first survivalist course, and his memory of that was spotty at best. Ah well. It was better than nothing.
“Rain or shine, we hold the line,” Lethway had been fond of quoting. It was the motto of the 3rd Pathfinder Regiment and its meaning was simple: a proper trooper made do with what he had, no matter the circumstances.
Cheering up a bit at the memory of his eternally ebullient friend, Rene began taking stock of his situation. Oxygen narcosis was his immediate enemy. He would start to get dizzy and slap-happy in a few minutes unless he did something about it.
An idea occurred to him. The ancestor-gods would’ve faced the same issues when it came to surviving on the surface world. He opened the survival kit and rummaged around for something that could help. Sure enough, the first tool he found was a rubber mask with a see-through visor. It seemed much flimsier than the standard-issue masks he was used to, with a long hose connecting its snout to a breathing apparatus mounted on a backpack. Rene wiped his face clean with his sleeves before putting it on. The visor fit his face like a glove, the straps and the lining of the mask remolding themselves to form an airtight fit. It came as no surprise that the air he inhaled through it was sweeter and more wholesome than any he had ever encountered. He took a moment to simply enjoy the luxury of breathing before moving on with his work.
Rene also found a spare set of clothing in the form of a white jumpsuit made of some supple fabric that was stronger than canvas and lighter than silk. But there was no way he was getting into that without washing himself clean. Rene hated feeling filthy. Like every right-thinking citizen of Mound Ulysses he was a severe germaphobe who knew that uncleanliness always preceded outbreaks of disease. Plagues had wiped out entire settlements in the past, the tight confines of the hive a natural breeding grounds for contagion. Yes, a good wash in a river or pond would do him wonders.
Speaking of which, he still had to secure a source of potable water. He licked his lips at the thought of a cup of water from the underground reservoirs of home. Ulysses was famous for its delicious water. Chock-full of minerals it was, enough to put hair on a growing boy’s unmentionables.
Searching for water would mean venturing into the unknown, and with night falling who knew what awaited him out there, or how far that river he’d seen truly was? Coming across some local wildlife was a certainty.
He still remembered those winged harpies he’d seen right before the Divine Engine had given him the old heave-ho. The beam-throwing weapon had caught scores of the creatures in its flames, but many more had flown clear and escaped. Even now they could be roosting in the branches above him, waiting to dive down and dismember him with the same ease with which they had butchered the Amits. Rene wasn’t taking any chances. He needed a weapon, and once more, the box provided.
It came in a sheathe of alabaster metal, a short broad blade with a cumbersome basket hilt. He wondered why a stubby blade needed such bulky hand protection when it was clearly unsuited to sword fencing. The pommel folded up to reveal a red button. Pressing it, Rene was startled when the blade began to vibrate in his hand like a living thing. He was so surprised that he dropping it by accident, snatching back his hand and letting it fall. It hit the ground hilt-first and spun, the cutting edge glancing against a huge granite boulder. The stone parted like butter beneath a hot knife, splitting apart into two equal halves. But the blade kept on going, skittering across the ground and striking the base of a tree. There was a terrible groan of stricken timber and the giant was felled, Rene judiciously stepping aside as it ripped through the blanket of vines to leave a gaping rent in the canopy above him.
Rene gingerly picked up the now inert sword and grasped it firmly in hand.
“Why, yes,” he muttered, feeling pleased, “Yes, I believe this will do.”

This one always makes me laugh because most people don’t know the context. I went to catholic school (i got an academic scholarship I really wanted to use) and like the core motto of every sports team was that quote.
