cyl 3 misfire

2024.05.14 21:26 Gluckism cyl 3 misfire

new engine rebuild, currently at 4000 miles, the car WAS running extremely rich due to a bad tune, and during the current process of retuning, cyl3 seems to be misfiring, i never feel it, car feels fine, but it keeps popping up. Spark plugs were replaced with the new engine at 4k miles, is it possible that only running rich for 4k miles caused them to go bad already? injectors were done 15k miles ago along with fuel pump. i replaced the 02 sensor this weekend also (it was extremely dirty)

2024.05.14 21:17 Super-Honey-283 Performante 6000kms misfire and broken valve spring.

This is a new one! Only 6000 kms on my Perf and I got a cylinder 5 misfire. Sent it in did the usual coil swap over and spark plugs to see if anything changed that didn’t work. Compression showed 0 on the number 5 cylinder, my tech is saying it’s possibly a valve spring. The borescope was clean thankfully.
Anyone else ever heard of this issue with so few kms? If so anything I should make sure I’m on top of with the tech ?
No over revs logged, never a low oil light, never tracked (yet).

2024.05.14 21:15 stoicmyego Electrical issues? [Mazda Tribute]

I've got a 2003 Mazda Tribute ES, with the 3.0 V6. Was driving, and out of nowhere, it stalled out. Started back up once, made it a little bit down the road, and it did the same, but hasn't started since. I've replaced the battery, the starter, the spark plugs and coils, and have tried swapping the starter relay out. As soon as I turn the ignition to start, the battery symbol pops up, the starter clicks a single time, and the electronics on the inside shut off. The wires going to the battery get hot extremely fast as well. Is it possible I have a short in the ground cable here? I've tried two brand new batteries now. The light comes on before even trying to start. I'm at a loss currently.
I've run it through an OBD2 scanner, and it throws no codes at all. Any advice?

2024.05.14 21:02 slowblonde Loss of power

Hey y’all! I have a 2019 base model wrx with 76k miles and i’ve been having loss of power for months. I’ve changed the spark plugs, crankshaft sensor, and an upper engine cleaning and all of which fixed the problem for a week but ultimately went right back to the loss of power. The only code it’s throwing is B1572, but that wouldn’t contribute to loss of power, right? Any ideas would be super helpful, I just want my power back😩

Spark plug time
Hey! Just did the plugs on my 2012 Mazda 6 i. I bought it a little over 2 months ago with 93k. It’s about at 95k so I figured I’d do the plugs with an oil change.
The first 3 all had a bit of oil on them so I’ll probably need to replace the valve cover and the spark plug tube gaskets (or whatever they’re called). Everything runs great!
To me, the average hobbyist, they look pretty normal for about 100k but wanted some second opinions.
Thanks!

Just bought my very first fiesta st. Came with a big turbo and tons of mods. Also came with a set of big issues lol but bought it for 5k so not too stressed yet unless it turns out it’s worse than I thought… Attached are some pictures of the codes it’s showing me. Just installed a new ac compressor bcs the clutch on the old one was bad. Never drove the car with ac since I just bought it 2 weeks ago. It idles roughly when the ac is on but fine when it’s off. Also when I do some hard pulls wrench sign and check engine light will sometimes turn on. After deleting them again everything is back to normal besides the rough idle when ac is running. Any advice would be great! Just changed the oil and spark plugs and regapped the plugs as well to .026. They are the NGK 95605 but looked pretty black around the threads. Any input is greatly appreciated!! Cheers

Dealership cracked CVT housing
Hello, I am hoping for advice on how to proceed with fixing my car, because I've been told I need a whole new transmission (dealership quoted me $7,800 + tax). The car is a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek with 87,500 miles and for the most part has only had routine maintenance needed.
I had my 80K mile service with routine fluid flushes done at the Subaru dealership. I have my invoices, and on that date, about 13 months ago, I had my CVT transmission fluid flushed, front + rear differential, and brake fluid done. I had gone back to the dealership for service that August and November for an oil change and alignment/balance. No comments were made about any leaks. Since my 80K service I have put approx 8,000 miles on the car.
On Sunday I had my local mechanic replaced my spark plugs, PCV valve, serpentine belt, and air filters, and I watched the entire procedure. I trust my local mechanic far more than any dealership or shop because he had worked as a car mechanic for many years and now works professionally on commercial vehicles. He did not touch my transmission, but did spot the leak and crack while changing my oil. Now I go to the dealership with my invoice, yes the service was a while ago, no I can't definitively say I saw it leaking because its been a very light drip so far and I don't have assigned parking, but I had concerns about leakage prior to the local mechanic working, and I am concerned about any kind of janky makeshift repair on this part and the dealership was the last party that serviced this part of the vehicle. The dealership does not want to take responsibility for the crack (the most likely thing I can think of is the bolt was over torqued, but I am not sure why it would take a while for a stress fracture to form if that is the case) and I have limited recourse. I have put in a claim with Subaru corporate hoping they may be able to help because of the dealership wanting to charge me to replace the entire CVT transmission, and I am 5 months past the 10y100K CVT warranty.
If Subaru Corporate is unable to assist me I am reaching out to understand what options I may have going forward.

Lean condition codes driving me crazy
Hello. I have a 2014 Koa sorento EX 3.3L and I recently had a a check engine light come on for lean condition code and of course the 02 sensors. Now, I should mention my crankshaft position sensor was bad so I replaced it and that is when the CEL light came on. I went ahead and changed spark plugs, cleaned the PCV valve, and checked about 5 times for hose leaks and I'm STILL getting the same codes. I really don't think it's the 02 sensors given the coincidence with the cps going bad and being replaced but I'm running out of patience trying to fix this thing myself before i just wave the white flag and take it to a shop.

2024.05.14 20:10 bigrig379 Lack of power

Lack of power
So, long story short this car has been sitting in my dad's garage for the last 15 years until I took ownership of it last year. I've done the following maintenance to it: timing belt, water pump, cam seal, thermostat, spark plugs, cap+rotor, exhaust work, O2 sensor, new injectors, valve cover gasket, fuel pump, FPR, fuel filter and cleaned the icv. When I first got the car it would ramp up to 2-3k rpm by itself at idle but now I've gotten it to remain around 800.
The main problem I'm having is lack of power and slight hesitation on initial acceleration. I put my foot down and it just doesn't have that go that I remember it having back in the day. I've done a compression test and all cylinders were identical at 145psi. I've attached a pic of what the new plugs look like after about a few drives. Smoke test reveaIed a leak around the valve cover which I replaced and now it's good. Fuel pressure test shows 40 psi. I have not done a leak down test.
Maybe someone out there has encountered this situation before and could shed some light on a possible solution on the lack of power. Could it be that it needs a full rebuild with new rings and gasket or possibly something more simple?

2024.05.14 20:05 camrycruiser 01 Camry MPG drop

Drove this car 4 years and it had great MPG. Got a new car 3 years ago and let my parents drive the Camry around until last month when my car went out and had to go back to the Camry. I notice the car is going through a full tank quicker than usual. Looked a spark plugs and notice one of them has a lot of black gunk. So two questions:
  1. Do I need to replace them (probably will)
  2. What could this black gunk be on the second spark plug?

Hello
I just acquired this car with 150k km. What should I look up for on the engine side to replace for reliability? This is a list I was thinking about:
spark plugs timing belt kit accessory belt kit water pump oil and all filters brakes and discs if needed
Is there anything else should I worry about? Should I also check the pressure in turbo and intercooler? Thanks in advance!

Hey y'all, I've had an 06 Tribeca (and yes I realize it's the black sheep of Subarus lol) since around September, it's got 180k miles and drove pretty well usually but in the last month or so it's been having issues. At first I was thinking it was a spark plugs thing but after changing those it opened up a whole new world if issues. Eventually a mechanic did confirm it was a head gasket issue, and they're quoting in the multiple thousands which is what I paid for the car. Anybody else experienced stuff like this? Is it even possible for me to fix something like this myself or should I just cut my losses now? Any advice at all is appreciated, thanks.

2024.05.14 19:34 sherlock_0x7C4 Kia maintenance plan vs. maintenance at regular schedule

How important is it to opt for Kia maintenance plan while purchasing a new vehicle? Kia plan covers the following:
Do we need to do all these every six months? There is no end of being paranoid. What if I perform regular maintenance at a fixed schedule, like change oil and rotate tires every six months (I don't think I'll hit anywhere close to 5,000 miles in six months) from a mechanic outside? That will definitely be cheaper than the Kia plan. If I get maintenance done by a local mechanic, does that void the warranty?

I’ve been in a relationship for 7 years now, and I’ve been trying to make it work but I’m just always unhappy. He’s great now (aside from the fact that he was really manipulative and controlling before he got therapy) but I’m wondering am i always just doomed to being unhappy or am i just with the wrong partner. And what would qualify as the perfect partner for me according to my astrology? He’s gotten much better since his therapy but i just feel like something is missing. Am i doomed to always feeling this way? Or is me feeling stuck just a symptom of the fact that I’m maybe just with the wrong person?
I attached a picture of my chart

2024.05.14 19:27 PositiveInspector281 Chevy Malibu 2009 - Service ESC

I've been struggling with my car for the last 7 months. It has 160,879 miles.
I sometimes get the service light 'Servce ESC - Service traction control' pop up after my car kinda has a gentle shaking coming from the engine. It's not running smooth. This generally only happens if the car is sitting idle for maybe 10 minutes or so. When I'm driving, it runs fine. Now it's starting to get to the point where it feels like it's running rough even at stop lights. I've taken my car into the shop several times because after it does this the engine light comes on and says cyclinder 4 misfire.
Now i've already had the ignition coil & spark plug wires replaced since all this started. It slowed down the misfires greatly but it's still acting funny when it sits idle for longer than a few minutes. I talked to a mechanic in town and he suggested puting Cheron fuel cleaner in my tank and switching to a higher grade of gas like BP. I did some of that. I switched from Casey's premium gas to Break Time's premium gas and started to put fuel cleaner in but the problem still persist.
I know if I take it in to a shop, they'll just say nothings wrong with it. I don't really want to ignore the problem, but it's not severe enough for a shop to really notice. Maybe if I knew what to tell them?? Help.

2024.05.14 19:01 Professional_Card439 350Z 2003 Oil in spark plug well - Anything else to do while doing valve covers?

So I had the lovely code P0300 and car was running like shit (350Z from 2003 VQ35DE) and checked out my spark plugs today. When I got to the 3rd one I saw it was in a nice oil bath. I guess this means new valve covers as I have seen that you cannot change the seals on the OEM ones (correct me if im wrong).
As of now I am thinking of getting -
*Aluminum valve covers (not ebay ones)
*New ignition coils
*New spark plugs
*Plenum spacer (makes sense to do it at the same time and I was already planning on buying one)
Is there anything else I should do at the same time?

2024.05.14 18:57 Wheat9546 Integra Problems: Dying while attempting to give gas in drive

To make a long story short. And to avoid long rambles cause I have issues with that.
ITEMS REPLACED: ICM/Ignition Coil, Spark Plugs, Spark Wires, Cap and Rotor, Battery ITEMS REUSED: Old/Stock Distributor
1: Car while ago, died while at idle when driving/parking. One incident tried putting car into reverse, immediately died.
1-2: Decided to research, all symptoms possibly pointed towards ICM/Ignition coil being dead, know this is probably the problem due to the fact previous ownemyself never changed most things. Decide this is the issue.
1-3: While obtaining parts for ICM/Ignition Coil, TOOK off the Distributor for easier fixing. Within the the OLD ICM/Ignition coil, ground nut is completely seized/ cannot remove the nut, Decide to cut the ground wire and create a new wire by simply adding onto the wire itself, used solder and soldered it together, not half-assing it. Add a spade connector and crimp at end and use screw to connect.
1-4: Install NEW ICM/Ignition coil, everything seems to work. Get small "misfires" HOWEVER AT, THIS TIME did not know it was misfires, simply thought it was the system getting used to the new parts. Car doesn't die anymore while at slow speeds.
1-5: Over the course of driving 2 weeks or so, idle is extremely rough at red lights/braking, feels like it's trying to lurch forward > NO PROBLEM of this type occurred before with OLD ICM/Ignition COIL. Problem is worse when using AC, which makes the RPM go up and down rapidly and car feels like stalling out. No "Lurching forward" issue while actually driving at normal speeds.
1-6: further research shows that removing the distributor can mess with ignition timing, decide to manually, just move it perhaps my marker mark was off or something. Issue still persists, realize at this point the "LURCHING FORWARD symptom at idle/stop lights" = MISFIRES.
1-7: Car completely dies, while attempting to give gas while trying to leave home. Park it, starts fine, give gas revs completely fine no issues or any funky sound at all. PUT INTO DRIVE AND GIVE GAS = Car Sputtering out and dying.
