2024.05.14 08:11 LumosDC Hospital lead to severe panic attacks

Hello everyone, I'm hoping I used the right flair.
I had major bottom Transgender surgery 5 months ago and have been in and out of the hospital with complications. UTIs and skin issues in a nutshell without being too graphic. I am a Transgender man and use he/him pronouns.
I had new skin issues pop up and then a really bad fall and hit my head on bedframe. I went to a hospital I never went to before this month and only had 30 minutes of sleep in over 2 days. Was awakened by a food tray banged on bed railing and had nurses come into my room nearly coming to blows with each other. Kept getting called she and not he. Felt that my being trans was against the laws of nature and God. That I should do the world a favor and kill myself, when that was and is the farthest thing I want to do. The surgery was too make me more comfortable and confident in the world - because I want to exist.
My mom and sister were my main abusers and sound was used as a weapon. My mother hit me over the head with a frying pan for daring to fall into the floor of a dilplated trailer while trying to put a Thanksgiving turkey in the fridge while my leg was still in the floor. My sister used her guitar to wake me up right after falling asleep and threatened me with a gun. My mom abused my father. My dad was sometimes abusive to me but he was who I was closest to. Outside the household, I was closest to my maternal grandmother - we bonded over books and love of cats. She was the only one I kept in contact with after moving to a different state and my father who died at the same time. She died 6 years ago of cancer.
Had severe panic attacks and multiple bouts of vomiting due to the things in the hospital. Ended up leaving against medical advice because I felt that my mental health was at more risk and not being able to sleep was starting to make me see things. Kept seeing and feeling like my cat was jumping on my bed. Will likely be the one and only time I left AMA. Knew there was other hospitals who I could go to and had options. I went home for few days and got some sleep and take care of my cat. Now back in the ER and took an Uber, so I knew what hospital I would go to.
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.14 05:18 Specialist_Tax_8869 [PC][2010-1016] Zoo Simulator Game with African Buffalo for Tutorial and Panda Icon

Platform(s): PC
Genre: Top-down Zoo Simulator game, but like a 3/4ths angle?
Estimated year of release: 2010-2016
Graphics/art style: The UI had a blue background, and the animals, People, and plants were fairly realistic, if not simplified since you never really had to see them up close. Typical cheap 3D Graphics for the time. There wasn't a lot of Shading on objects, the colors were fairly flat.
Notable characters: I believe the tutorial was told to you by a woman in a ponytail, either blonde or brunette. She and maybe a Male partner would give you daily quests? But other than that there wasn't any real people. The male either had black hair, or he was old and gray, and they both were wearing typical zookeeper attire. The Woman's name might start with a K.
Notable gameplay mechanics: It was a Zoo Simulator, and you would play each day out, with a dark 'dusk' period before you would open for the day and you would use that extra time to take care of animals and build things without people in the way, though you could still do that even during the day. You could pay for advertisements on Newspaper, Television, and Radio to get more visitors the next day. You weren't able to Remove fences, nor would the fences break over time. You would have to check the animals health, because they would get sick. The Tutorial would always start with you Building an enclosure for an African Buffalo. Sometimes you were given an animal from the wild who was sick and you would have a few days to take care of them before they were sent back to the wild, Or you kept them and the time limit was just to make sure you had a habitat ready for them. Also they would be super sick when they arrived and wouldn't be happy.
Other details: The App Icon was a panda, just like a model of the whole body in the Top-down 3/4ths perspective. When I got the game, it came in a box set with other Simulator game discs. One of them was a forest ranger game, which was 1st person pov, and there were no other humans and it creeped me out, walking in the woods with no real map or anything. There were a total of 5 or 6 other games that came with, but the zoo was my favorite, and I only remember the forest one because it scared me. I believe one of them was a Carnival Simulator. The title of the game starts with 'My' or 'Your' like 'My/Your Zoo World' or 'My/Your Zoo Simulator'. I remember the animals getting sick all the time, and I'd have to check my animals every two hours in game time. you were able to see how far the food/waterestroom/gift stalls were able to reach, like their zone od effectiveness. You could click on a person and they would have a name and you could see their thoughts about whatever they were looking at. There were research centers for discovering animals and a research center to "level up" your animals, to make them less likely to get sick/more fertile to help with engagement animals
It isn't Zoo Tycoon, Empires, Paradise, My Free Zoo, or Zoo Planet, I've already looked at them and they aren't it.

2024.05.14 05:01 esoper1976 Boo is Gone

Sorry, I don't have any pictures for the cat tax, but I want to tell you about my mom's cat who lived to be 20 years old.
I got a text from my mom today that she went to the vet and came home with an empty cat carrier. Her 20 year old cat named Boo had been slowly dying all weekend, and the vet just sped things up.
Boo was an amazing cat. Her first nickname was snot nose scardy cat, then she became less afraid, and it was snot nose stinky butt, and then she wasn't stinky, so it was just snot nose. But, in the last couple years of her life, she got the right meds and wasn't as much of a snot nose.
To know the story of Boo, we have to go back before Boo. When my mom moved to the town she lives in, she still had my childhood cat. But, he was old and failing and we put him down soon after moving. Her house also came with an outdoor cat. The previous owner fed her, and my mom decided to keep feeding her too. (She had one kitten, and both were vaccinated and fixed). Of course, the food attracted more outdoor cats. And, the females had kittens, so there became more cats. Any cats my mom could catch she would vaccinate and fix.
One day, a new cat showed up. He would eventually be named Handsome. (The outdoor cats, other than the original didn't get names, unless a friend/acquaintance adopted one). This cat would march himself into the house any chance he got. My mom kept shooing him out, and he kept going back in. He was telling her that he was her cat, not an outdoor cat. So, she named him Handsome, of course got him fixed and vaccinated, and he became her cat.
Handsome liked to sleep in this flower pot that my mom put blankets in for the cat's. One day a new kitten showed up. She was extra tiny. Handsome let her sleep in the flower pot with him. He groomed her and taught her how to be a cat. He was basically her mother.
That winter, it was super cold. My mom took pity on the little kitten (that we had named Boo because she was Halloween colored), and decided she could come inside too. After all, Handsome had declared her part of the family. She took her to the vet for shots and to get spayed. She got her shots, but was too little to be spayed. Eventually, the vet went ahead and spayed her because she was never going to grow big enough. She was a tiny cat! Handsome passed several years ago at about 17 or 18. He was about 4 years older than Boo.
Boo was sad without Handsome, but adjusted. She was also getting older and slowing down. But still living the good life. She loved sitting on my mom's lap.
And now you know the story of Boo. A well loved cat who has finally gone to rest over the rainbow bridge. I know Handsome was waiting to welcome her.

2024.05.14 01:35 TheLastRiter I never should have gone to this farmhouse alone. [Part 1]

My hands are shaking as I write this, I have to document my story incase something happens to me in the next few days. I'm not sure where to begin but I suppose here is better than anywhere.
I've always had this weird feeling, this sensation inside of me that I was older than I actually was. By the time I was twelve, my soul felt as though it was forty. By the time I reached twenty, I felt like an old woman. I would watch people around my age acting foolish, and I always thought, "What a bunch of children." So it was no surprise to anyone that when I turned twenty-one, I left my hometown and college and decided to spend the summer alone by renting an old farmhouse in an insignificant town on the edge of an even more insignificant border.
When I told my mother, she had a veritable fit, unable to find the words. She spluttered and raged around me for days before I finally left early one morning to avoid her guilt and frustration with my choices. I was not sure why I craved solitude at such a young age, why I found solace in being alone and removed from society.
In high school, I had changed unexpectedly, cutting my long blonde hair short and dying it black, getting piercings that my mother loathed and claimed no young lady should have. You see, my mother was raised proper, as she called it. Good family, good husband, and finally a good life. She despised her perfect life being squashed by my alternative looks and feelings of the same world. She just didn't understand me or the world as it changed around her. I felt like I was just a trophy to her and my father, her perfect angel who had been tainted by my own demented thoughts.
I never told my parents where I was staying, one last rebellious mission before leaving for a few months, and it took me only a few hours to arrive at the farmhouse where I would be staying for the next few months. The land around the farm was dead or dying, old crops rose out of the dry dusty earth and had turned black and forgotten, as if this land was the example of dreams long forgotten and empty. A single dreary lane connected this desolate farmhouse to the rest of the world. On the outside, it was drab and looked as though it would fall apart. It had two stories but still seemed cramped and small, as if it were a single floor tied to the ground.
Across from the house, bordering the tall weeds that had reclaimed much of the farmland, stood a maudlin-looking faded red barn, one door propped open in a dejected manner revealing naught to me but shadows, dust, and a little mystery.
Next to the barn, staked into the ground on an old-looking cross, was a ragged scarecrow. It had drab brown clothing, but its face was oddly realistic, like it was watching me with a disapproving manner. Straw poked through its joints at odd angles like they were trying to break free from their confines. The scarecrow obviously didn't do its job as it was covered in no less than three crows.
I parked my car next to the barn and stepped out into the dusty yard before the farmhouse that I would make my home for the next few months. I checked under the front mat for the key and put it in the lock.
With a satisfying click, the door fell inward into the farmhouse. Surprisingly, the inside of the farmhouse was modern, clean, and looked quite inviting. I could smell the fresh paint on the walls, and everything was so white. The realtor had told me she would stop by tomorrow to collect the rent, and she had tried to chat my ear off on the phone about all the renovations she and her son were doing on the place.
I sighed with contentment and tossed my bags beside the door. I dug around in my bag and removed my camera, my father's old film shooter as he called it. I had taken up the hobby years ago for what I called capturing the oddity in the world.
I explored the small house a little more; the ground floor consisted of a single room and small bathroom with a shower. The bedroom was upstairs and was the only room, the stairs connected directly to the white and pink monstrosity that was the master bedroom. The pillows had laces on them and almost made me gag from the cuteness. There was even cute white lace curtains on the window with little flowers stitched onto them.
Out of the only window of the room, I could see the barn and the scarecrow. I aimed my camera at the pair and snapped a photo. From this angle, the scarecrow appeared to be staring straight at me. It stood next to the left side of the barn in a dejected manner like a chastised child.
A shudder involuntarily ran through me at the sight, but I moved on back downstairs. It was getting close to dinner time now, and I had brought some food with me.
After a few minutes, I had my dinner on the stove cooking and the crickets chirping outside the open window. As I sat down to eat next to the window, I felt at peace for one of the first times in years. The solitude of this old farm was exactly what I needed. The window supplied a nice breeze that wafted through the place, it smelled of grass and warm summer nights, made me feel at peace. The simple dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce and a glass of wine was all that I needed right here, right now in this moment.
That night I climbed into the frilly laced bed and sunk into the claustrophobic mattress. I felt like Goldilocks in the mama bear's bed as it was altogether too soft. From my perfumed bed, I had a good view out the window. I had left the porch light on, and it cast an eerie glow across the yard. The barn loomed ominously, stalwart against the light of the porch, like it was protecting the shadows from the battering ram of light. The somber scarecrow leaned against the left side of the barn.
With a small jump, I thought I saw its arm move slightly. I peered through my camera using the zoom to get a better view of the scarecrow. It was completely still in the night, and I laughed quietly to myself at my silliness. I had always enjoyed horror movies, but there was no chance I was living in one. I settled back into bed and put my camera down. Within a few minutes, I fell into sleep's warm embrace.
What felt like only a few minutes later, I sat up in bed. It was still dark out, I could hear crickets chirping through the open window, and I strained my ears for a moment.
I thought something had woken me up. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine as a cold breeze wafted in through the window. I pulled the frilly blanket up around myself when I heard it. A thud sounded below me, shaking the whole world into silence. The crickets stopped chirping, and my heart felt like it had stopped beating. Someone was in the house. I hadn't locked the door or closed the kitchen window, and now someone was downstairs. A second thud sounded like a boot on the staircase. Then another and another as something was slowly moving up the stairs towards the room.
I don't know why I did it, but something came over me. I wasn't big or especially brave, but my normal cowardice in social situations changed instantly. With a dash, I tore across the room, flicking on the lights, ready to face my attacker, to defend myself against male or female. I would fight, and I would win.
But as the lights turned on, ready to strike with my foot, nothing was there. The staircase was empty, and upon further inspection, the entire house was empty. The kitchen window was open, and I shut and locked it securely before checking the door. Nothing. I sat down on the couch, my heart pounding out of my chest, as I tried to make sense of what had just happened.
"I must have still been half-asleep," I said aloud to the room in a thinly veiled attempt to calm my nerves. It failed horribly, but I went with it. What else could you do in a situation like that?
After locking up the house, I went back up to that frilly four-poster bed in the bedroom and stared out the window. Nothing was in the yard except my car, the barn, and the same old sad-looking scarecrow staring across the yard.
Day 2
The next morning, I woke up to the soft light filtering through the lace curtains. Despite the strange events of the previous night, I felt strangely refreshed, as if the morning sun had chased away the shadows that lingered in my mind.
I descended the stairs, the wooden steps creaking softly under my weight, and headed to the kitchen. As I brewed a pot of coffee, my mind wandered back to the events of last night. Was it just a figment of my imagination, or was there really someone in the house?
Shaking off the unease, I decided to explore the farmhouse in the daylight. I wandered through the room, admiring the modern renovations that clashed with the rustic exterior. The farmhouse had a charm to it, despite its eerie surroundings.
As I made my way outside, the cool morning air greeted me, and I took a deep breath, letting the serenity of the countryside wash over me. The barn stood tall against the backdrop of the morning sky, and the scarecrow seemed to watch me as I crossed the yard.
I approached the barn, curiosity getting the better of me. Pushing open the creaky door, I stepped inside, the musty scent of hay filling my nostrils. The interior was dimly lit, the sunlight filtering through the cracks in the wooden walls.
I explored every nook and cranny of the barn, but found nothing out of the ordinary. As I turned to leave, something caught my eye. In the corner of the barn, hidden beneath a pile of old blankets, was a small wooden chest.
My heart racing with anticipation, I lifted the lid of the trunk and peered inside. What I found took my breath away. It was a collection of old photographs, yellowed with age, depicting scenes from a bygone era. They were of a man with his family, two young kids, and a beautiful young wife. The man had yellow blonde hair, almost like straw in texture, but he smiled so happily with his family.
I sifted through the photographs, my fingers trembling with excitement. Who had left these behind, and why? Each photograph seemed to tell a story, a glimpse into the past of this forgotten farmhouse.
As I sat there, lost in thought, a sudden noise jolted me back to reality. It was the sound of footsteps coming from outside the barn.
"Hello?" The dreamy voice of a woman called to me from the entrance to the barn.
I slammed the lid of the trunk shut, closing the memories up in a flurry as I spun around to be greeted by a quite pretty woman with blonde hair and a pink suit skirt combo. She had bright pink lipstick, that seemed to be a permanent fixture on her face, and quite shiny and sparkly blue eye shadow on her lids. I myself only wore black eyeliner. This woman was like Barbie in her proportions, thin waist, long hair, and large tracts of land, as my father would have said.
"Oh, hello," I said simply, always awkward in normal social situations.
If she noticed anything odd about me, she breezed over it in an easy manner. Taking me by the shoulders, she led me out of the dusty barn and into the yard.
"You must be Polly. We have been waiting a while for you to come. I simply must know what you think of the renovations to the house. Aren’t they just to die for?" The lady said all in one breath, as if she didn’t need air to speak.
"Yes, they are quite nice..." I started before she cut me off, not in a rude manner but instead in one that she would have continued on even if I had just told her I was not Polly and instead I was a mass murderer looking for my next victim.
"You see, me and my son Eli—yes, Eli, you stop lurking in the shadows over there," she said, continuing on as I noticed a younger man leaning up against the barn. He wore simple clothes of jeans and a white t-shirt but had a handsome face. His hair was brown and hung slightly over his eyes.
"I hope you don’t mind if my son here continues working on some renovations while you stay here? Strictly on the outside of the house, mind you. A fresh coat of white paint would make this little beauty shine. We would have finished by now if not for the accidents," she continued, completely unabashed by my silence.
"Sorry. But you are the realtor?" I said, trying to regain my feet under me.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry, dear!" she said with an affable cackle.
"Yes, yes, I am Barbara, but all my friends call me Barb. That over there is Eli. Eli, come say hi," Barb said while her painted talons rested firmly on my shoulder.
Eli stomped over, keeping his eyes low, in a sort of moody way that actually intrigued me, sort of.
When he glanced up at me, I noticed he drank in me from head to toe, and for the first time, I realized what I was wearing. An old rock t-shirt of one of my favorite bands and, of all things, my black pajama bottoms with cartoon bats on them that said "happy halloween."
I felt my face blush crimson as he made eye contact with me. He had very mysterious eyes of blue that seemed to cut right through my soul.
"Nice shirt," he said while gesturing to me. His voice was quiet and uncertain, as if he didn’t get much practice with the art. Knowing his mother, it seemed highly accurate.
"Thanks. Do you like them?" I asked.
"Oh, he likes all sorts of things, don’t you, Eli? Honestly, you two can gab on forever. But miss, I believe we have a small matter of payment," Barb said, drawing the conversation back to herself.
"Of course. Let me go get it," I said as I went back into the house and retrieved the envelope with the rent money in it.
Barb grabbed the envelope in her bright pink talons and snapped a piece of bubblegum between her teeth. With quick fingers, she leafed through the cash, counting it. As she counted, her normal bubbly personality seemed to disappear, giving way to what I gleaned was her true thoughts and feelings before the facade slipped on once again.
"Mmkay, perfect honey, this is the right amount. Now you have my number, so you call if you need anything. Like I said earlier, Eli will stop by from time to time to work on painting the house. I promise you he won’t be an imposition, just pay him no mind," Barb said in a sweet voice as she popped her gum in between each word.
"Eli, come on, please, I have an appointment in town," Barb said to her son, and they both climbed into a garish pink convertible with jewels hanging from the mirror wrapped in a gold chain.
Barb waved one last time as she sped off out of the driveway, covering me in dust as she spun the wheel around.
With their departure, I went inside and retrieved my camera. I spent a few minutes shooting a few pictures I thought were worthy. I re-entered the barn and pulled the old trunk out into the sunshine. Inside was only a handful of photos, some old clothes, and what looked like some old heirlooms. A beautifully old candlestick and a few leather-bound books lay at the bottom, covered by an old tablecloth. The tablecloth was a nice white with intricate swirling patterns inlaid around the edges.
Why would these things be packed away in here? They were so beautiful. I decided to bring the stuff inside for further inspection. As I lifted the trunk, out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something move in the tall grass at the edge of the property. I stared for a minute, but nothing moved again. I must be getting jumpy being alone like this. After last night and then this, I was just imagining things.
I brought the items inside and spread them out. I put the tablecloth on the table, and it hung low to the ground. I placed the candlestick by the window and took out the photos again, spreading them out.
The photos told me a story of a loving family that obviously lived in the farmhouse before me. They had a photo next to the barn, with a brand new looking scarecrow in the back. The man even had his arm around it; it looked so much cleaner and proper in this photo. I stared outside at the sad-looking scarecrow.
I took my camera and the photo and went outside to stand next to the scarecrow. His post hung kind of crooked in the earth like it was weighed down by the scarecrow.
I snapped a photo of the scarecrow as it was, then examined the original photo. I began resettling the post in the ground, but it kept sagging. I decided to pull him out of the ground and move him while I added more dirt to his hole. With some effort, I reseated him into his original hole. He already looked better, but I straightened his clothes and pulled out the last bits of straw that stuck out of his clothes. When I was finished, I looked back at him and took a photo, smiling while I did so at my work.
I then spent some time sweeping the front porch and banging the dust out of the cushions before I curled up on a wicker chair with plump cushions for a few hours reading a book I had brought with me.
I felt quite content at this place. The sounds of the crickets began again, putting me at ease as the sun began to descend. I had spent the entire day just relaxing, and it was perfect. I sat sprawled out in the chair, too lazy to go and make dinner or even move. My bladder was full, but I waited until the last moment before dashing inside and relieving myself.
That's when I noticed it, out in the yard. It seemed as if the scarecrow had moved closer. Once shrouded by the barn slightly, it now had moved a few steps into the light from the porch. My heart dropped at the sight. Not again, I must be asleep on the porch in the chair. I pinched myself, trying to wake up, but all I received was a sore arm.
I closed my eyes, then rubbed them, hoping to dispel whatever plagued my mind, but when I opened my eyes, I noticed the scarecrow was even closer. Halfway across the yard now, it sat menacingly, hanging crooked in the dirt. The scarecrow seemed to be staring at me with an intense gaze. The slits in its face were open now, and in the porch light, I swear I could see human eyes underneath the mask.
I moved towards the front door, locking it in a swift motion. I was shaking now, and it took me a minute to relax. I never took my eyes off the scarecrow for fear of it moving again.
My cellphone was upstairs, so I couldn't flee without the scarecrow moving again. I breathed out slightly and unlocked the door, letting it swing in with a creak. The night outside was silent, as if everything was holding its breath. The usual crickets that plagued me with their song day and night had fallen quiet. I stepped out onto the porch; I needed to go confront this demonic entity. Something about this still made me think this was a prank.
"Eli, is that you?" I called out to the scarecrow.
No response, of course. I steeled myself and put one foot off the porch, never taking my eyes off the scarecrow before me. Something seemed to be dripping from its head as I approached, a dark slime that seemed to be melting from its joints as it stood there silently, except for the constant drip of the liquid on the dry dirt before me.
I walked around the scarecrow, determined to figure out what was going on. As I circled it, my vision darkened for a moment as I faced towards the light of the house. I jumped as the scarecrow's head turned to face me as I looked away. The black liquid drained faster from the being, forming a shallow pool at its feet.
I'm not proud of what I did next, but I fled, taking my eyes off the scarecrow. I made a mad dash for the farmhouse. Behind me, I could hear the pounding of feet. I screamed as loud as my lungs would let me. My voice rang through the silence as I grabbed the door handle and wrenched open the door as I felt a strong grip fall on my shoulder.
I turned to defend myself, but nothing was there. The scarecrow was gone, the wooden cross had vanished, as had the pool of dark liquid in the dirt. The world sprung back to life; the crickets began chirping loudly, and my heart restarted. I slammed the door, and the air from my force scattered the photographs on the table. I ran upstairs, leaving the lights on in the house, and dove onto the bed, wrapping myself in the frilly blanket like a set of frilly armor.
I snatched my camera from the bedside table and held it close, determined to document the rest of the night. I held it in shaking hands as the noise downstairs began—the sound of boots crossing the floor to the stairs and the careful but heavy steps of ascension as they climbed closer and closer to me.
This time, I didn't lunge forward as the light was already on. I glanced out the window, but the scarecrow was still gone. I focused my camera on the stairs and waited as the steps came closer and closer. A shape began to form as the head of whatever was coming up the stairs crested the floor. Then a plain brown mask with slits where the eyes would be. It froze for a moment, then slowly turned its head towards me. Inside the slits were human eyes that seemed to be leaking dark red blood.
In the light, I could see it now. I snapped a photo of the beast, the flash setting off a reaction in the beast. The scarecrow moved so fast up the stairs it was a blur. My scream echoed throughout the house as it lunged at me. Filthy hands pinned me down, and the deep crimson liquid began pouring out of every joint of the scarecrow. It began covering my face, my eyes, and getting into my open mouth. I spluttered and kicked at the beast, but my blows had no purchase, as if the scarecrow on top of me had no substance to itself.
I coughed and spluttered on the liquid as it began to fill my mouth faster and faster. I tried not to swallow any, but it tried to find purchase as I was held down.
"Polly?" A nervous voice called from below.
Suddenly, as if the angels had called, the pressure dissipated, and I crashed to the floor in a heap, trying to spit the blood out, but nothing came—it was gone. Footsteps pounded up the stairs again, and I flew back in fear, closing my eyes.
"Oh my god. Polly, are you okay?" A voice said, and gentle hands grabbed my arm.
My eyes shot open at the human touch, and I grabbed Eli into a tight hug, where I promptly began sobbing in fear, my whole body shaking as Eli awkwardly hugged me.
"Don't worry, it's going to be okay," Eli said patiently to me as he hugged me back gently and began stroking my back.
I shivered in a choking sob and fell into his arms, desperately wanting to believe him, and for some reason, I did.

GrapheneOS is known for its strong focus on privacy and security. This makes it perfect for those who want to keep their data safe. Now, let's look at what makes GrapheneOS stand out from the rest.

Sandboxed Google Play Services

One of GrapheneOS's key features is sandboxed Google Play services. This means apps can't freely access your private data. They're limited to a safe area. This helps prevent data leaks and stops apps from seeing more than they should.

Regular Updates for Security Maintenance

GrapheneOS keeps devices safe by offering frequent security updates. These updates fix any new vulnerabilities that might arise. This way, the system is always up-to-date, keeping your device secure.

Attack Surface Reduction Measures

GrapheneOS uses techniques to reduce the chances of different types of attacks. It limits how much apps can interact with the system, blocking some attacks right at the start. It also includes special features that make it harder for attackers to exploit the system.

Enhanced Heap Memory Corruption Defense

Heaps are a common target for hackers, but GrapheneOS strengthens against this. It uses its own memory management system to protect against heap corruption. This includes special memory handling to make attacks harder.

Robust Memory Exploit Detection and Prevention

GrapheneOS is ahead of the game in detecting and stopping memory exploits. It has tools that spot and fix important memory bugs. This helps keep your device safe from complex attacks that target memory use.

Official Production Support for Pixel Devices

GrapheneOS supports many Pixel devices officially. This includes the Pixel 8 Pro and other new Pixel devices. Users of Pixel devices can get the added security and privacy GrapheneOS offers.
After learning about GrapheneOS, it's time to look at Stock Android's setup and features in the next section.

Functionality Comparison

GrapheneOS and stock Android are much alike in basic phone tasks. Yet, they have key differences.

GrapheneOS Functionality

GrapheneOS values substance over flashy marketing. It cares deeply about privacy and security. By not including Google services, it focuses more on protecting users.
Its main goal is making your device safe from attack. It does this by limiting what attackers can do and safeguarding the core part of the operation system.
It also stops attackers from taking full control even if they somehow get in. This is done through a feature called verified boot.
By removing unneeded code, GrapheneOS makes attacks from far away, close by, or online less likely. It adds layers of protection to apps and the system, making them much harder to exploit.
GrapheneOS Functionality Features Description

One highlight is Android Auto, making your phone and car work together. This way, you keep your hands off the phone while driving yet enjoy many useful features.

Privacy and Security

When you pick a system for your phone, think about privacy and safety. GrapheneOS and stock Android protect your data in unique ways.

GrapheneOS Privacy and Security Features

GrapheneOS focuses heavily on keeping your data safe. It offers many tools to boost your privacy and security. These include limiting data collection and secure updates.

Stock Android Privacy and Security Considerations

Stock Android, made by Google, has its security perks. But it's heavily tied to Google's services. This can lead to less privacy.
Both GrapheneOS and stock Android care about security. However, GrapheneOS's special focus on privacy sets it apart. It's great for anyone who really values their data privacy.

Comparison Table: GrapheneOS vs. Stock Android Privacy and Security

Privacy and Security Features GrapheneOS Stock Android
Data Collection Minimizes data collection May collect user data through Google services
Updates Regular secure updates Regular updates to address security vulnerabilities
Google Services Access Restricted access to Google services System-level integration with Google services
Permission Controls Strict permission controls Permission customization options
Table: A comparison of privacy and security features offered by GrapheneOS and stock Android
In summary, if you're big on privacy, you'll like what GrapheneOS offers. It's a top choice. But if Google's services matter a lot to you, stock Android might be the way to go. It's not as privacy-focused, but it's great for those that love Google's features.

App Compatibility

GrapheneOS and stock Android both excel in app compatibility, but GrapheneOS faces challenges with some banking apps. These apps need special access. Yet, GrapheneOS aims for the highest privacy and security, sometimes making these needs clash.
Many apps are compatible with GrapheneOS, and the project actively works with developers. It encourages them to make their apps work with GrapheneOS. This allows users to enjoy the operating system's enhanced privacy and security safely.
Stock Android, on the other hand, has superior compatibility with all apps, including those from banks. It works across many devices and is chosen by developers. Its wide use makes it easier for developers to ensure app compatibility.
To make the app experience smoother on GrapheneOS, users can choose alternative apps that work well with the system. Also, the project is always updating to boost app compatibility through community efforts.

Recommended Banking Apps for GrapheneOS

Many banking apps face issues on GrapheneOS. Still, several banking apps perform well on this system:
Remember, although these apps are compatible with GrapheneOS, it's wise to confirm with your bank or financial institute for the latest compatibility updates.
As GrapheneOS grows, its app compatibility, including banking apps, is expected to get better. The project is dedicated to offering an experience that values security and privacy while ensuring apps work well.

User Feedback and Experience

GrapheneOS is great for privacy and security, which users love. They feel their data is safer and that Google tracks them less. Plus, it works well with most Android apps. This means users can still do what they want while keeping their privacy a top priority.
Some say that stock Android is smoother and has more useful features than GrapheneOS. They think that GrapheneOS focuses too much on privacy and misses out on some key features. For example, it doesn't work as closely with Google services and apps.
GrapheneOS users share their thoughts in forums, social media, and by talking to the team. They give detailed advice, like how to make permission prompts even safer. They also want the Auditor feature to be better explained, especially to journalists.
Users often request a better way to know when there are system updates. They want to be able to choose when to update, so it doesn't disrupt their day. They also ask about how to use the app pinning and auto-reboot timer, looking for more info.
Users also need more info about the Android Recovery system in GrapheneOS. They want to know more about its role in updating the system. And they worry about any issues the updates might bring.
Some users find features in GrapheneOS that remind them of Google. They want clearer information about these features. This way, they can understand them better.
App compatibility is an issue for some. A few apps won’t work on GrapheneOS because they fear security risks. Some just crash. This is why some users carry a second phone for specific apps, like banking or gaming.

User Profile Usage on GrapheneOS

GrapheneOS encourages the use of separate profiles for different apps. This keeps your privacy and security levels high. Users should have profiles for general use, social media, work, and private matters.

GrapheneOS Installation Ease

Installing GrapheneOS is known for being easy among custom OSes. The web interface makes the process straightforward. However, installing it on various computers might need extra steps sometimes.

GrapheneOS Benefits and Drawbacks

Why do people like GrapheneOS? It's great with most apps, makes you more secure, and doesn't let Google track you much. Plus, it backs up your apps very safely.
But it's not perfect. Some apps, like Facebook Messenger, have issues. The fingerprint sensor on the Google Pixel 6 isn’t the best. And sometimes you might face problems with internet when using a VPN.

Google Pixel 6 User Experience

The Google Pixel 6 is seen as a good buy by users. It offers good features and performance for its cost. However, the fingerprint sensor and the size of the phone get mixed reviews. The camera's quality also varies among users.

Overall Recommendation

Despite some issues, GrapheneOS is recommended by many for its strong privacy and security. It's a good choice for those who worry about Google spying on them.

User Feedback Overview

Feedback Request/Suggestion
Implementation of safeguards in on-demand permission prompts Enhancing permission controls for improved security
Better explanation and marketing of the Auditor feature Targeting investigative journalists as potential users
Proposal for a notification system for system updates Allowing manual installation of updates
Inquiry about the functionality of app pinning with auto-reboot timer Clarification on how the feature works
Request for clarification on Android Recovery system Understanding its role and potential issues with OTA updates
Identification of features resembling "Googlisms" Clear explanations and disclosures for informed usage
Challenges with app compatibility on de-googled version Issues with banking apps, food delivery apps, Uber, and mobile gaming

Future Development and Updates

GrapheneOS gets better thanks to the hard work of gifted developers. They're always updating it to make it safer and easier to use.
Updates bring new security patches, app changes, and more. For instance, new kernel updates might change to versions like 5.15.151 or 6.1.80. Apps like Vanadium might jump to new versions like 124.0.6367.159.0.
They use tags to give updates for certain devices. For example, a tag like 2024040100 might mean a special update for certain phones. These updates are meant to make your experience even better.
Recently, they made sure that VPN apps can't accidentally leak your web requests. They also update apps like PDF Viewer to make sure they run smoother. These updates are all about making your phone more enjoyable to use.
GrapheneOS also pays special attention to certain phones. For example, the Pixel Fold might receive updates specific to its design. This keeps your device running well and safe.
They change settings to make your phone safer and easier to use. For security, a new memory tag setting is available. You might see different settings based on what phone you have, making everything more user-friendly.
Improving apps is just as important to GrapheneOS. Apps like TalkBack, which helps by reading the screen, might get better with version 14.1. These changes aim to make using your favorite apps a smoother experience.
They also make technical updates to stay cutting-edge. A recent kernel update, like 5.15.149, makes your device more secure and faster.
Even the Camera app and GmsCompatConfig (used for Google services) get updated. This ensures your phone is more dependable and full of new features.

Official Device Support

GrapheneOS officially supports many Pixel models including the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 5a. These devices let you make the most of GrapheneOS's features.
Some Pixel phones, like the Pixel 5, won't get any more updates. Yet, the Pixel 4a and 4 XL keep getting support, like better security. This means you can still use these devices safely.
The 8th generation Pixel devices offer top security levels. They're supported for 7 years from their launch with features custom-tailored to protect your device.
Pixel devices get different levels of support based on their generation. The 8th generation has a longer 7-year support compared to 6th and 7th generation models, which gets 5 years. This shows GrapheneOS's focus on lasting security and usability.

Future Focus and Community Support

The team behind GrapheneOS aims to make major improvements in device, system, and software security. Their focus isn't on supporting every device but on ensuring profound security.
GrapheneOS has a strong community that loves its security. This community's dedication to privacy drives the project's advancement and success.

2024.05.13 16:27 SurroundOther4472 What Is Evergreen Content?

If you’ve been following along with our theme for this month, you’ll know we’ve been putting a lens on sustainability in marketing. With that in mind, it would be tragic if we didn’t discuss Evergreen Content.
What is Evergreen Content?
As the term suggests, Evergreen Content is content that is continually relevant for your audience for a long period of time. But wait, don’t confuse something being accessible for “long periods of time’ with it being Evergreen content. After all, you might post a blog and it doesn’t disappear after you publish it, in fact, it might stay on the internet forever but that doesn’t necessarily make the topic and ideas in the blog relevant to a person if they were to read it months from now, does it?
Evergreen Content regardless of the medium of distribution is content that is useful for both the audience and your business beyond the necessity of time it was released. But with the fast-paced consumption of media now and the sheer quantity of content being resurfaced, what does Evergreen content look like in 2023?
Evergreen content can be generated for many different mediums.
Evergreen content on social media marketing might look like posts about your local food business location and general information like telephone numbers or reservations that would only change if you moved your business.
For an e-commerce website on social media, you might make Evergreen around your customer’s UGC photos of your staple products.
Your use case for Evergreen content will expand beyond social too! For your website and SEO, you might create how-to articles on how to operate your products for example, how to clean your make-up brushes, the very ones your brand is built around. You might even add value guides such as nutritional values or a set of videos expanding on just how cool your brand is.
Here are some other examples of Evergreen content:
· FAQs
· Checklists
· How to guides
· Policies
· Celebrity collaborations
· Case Studies
· Industry Resources
· Quotes & interviews
· UGC & Reviews
· Industry resources
and... your BRAND STORY
Get creative but remember that Evergreen content is something that your audience can use for a long time to come. Aside from the obvious benefits to your audience Evergreen content can be used to elevate a business in so many ways. After all, the reason why we’re even talking about Evergreen content is that we’re discussing how it can be part of your sustainable marketing model. For us, we find that Evergreen content is something we can reuse and don’t have to recreate, saving us tons of time and investment in our content marketing strategies. You can leverage this same methodology to your benefit in more ways than the obvious.
Here are some Ideas:
· Take and save videos and photos of your team and office. You can use this as a B-Roll to fill in gaps in the future.
· Download, tag, and save UGC. This can be used in so many ways in the future.
· Templatize certain images or graphics to fill in the blanks in the future!
· Frequent and Save reviews and customer feedback, screenshot conversation (with permission of course!)
Now you have RAW Evergreen content that you can leverage internally when producing new marketing campaigns because they are still relevant! By doing this, you save time, money, and more importantly, your bandwidth. Don’t burn hours and mental energy over something you can build on with content that you can keep using again and again. Instead, make it a practice to be sustainable when it comes to your efforts and start leveraging Evergreen content to help with the longevity of your marketing efforts.

2024.05.13 15:00 Glittering-Might6333 Suggestions on type?

I’m very familiar with MBTI but newer to socionics. Whenever I take Socionics tests I end up with one of two results. I’m curious to see if they are completely off base or if I’m charting the right course in my own self reflection. So here is the usual questionnaire for your typing consideration. Thank you for your time!
What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?
What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?
What are your values, and why?
Describe your relationships with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?
Dad: I enjoy his company a lot. We are both very logical and practical and are fine with low communication. He’s always supported my interests, passions, and creativity no matter how weird he found them to be.
Mom: I love her but in childhood she often worried about me being socially behind and would berate me with concerns over finding more friends or a romantic partner. What she preferred to talk about felt very frivolous to me (clothing, family drama ect). Often told me I was too critical to her (“made her feel stupid”) which was never my intention. I’ve known her to be overly emotional and clingy at times but she got me into music and raised me with kindness which I appreciated.
Sister: Has always been the source of frustration for me as she is very reactive, confrontational and requires a lot of attention and affection which I do not give. Very opposite to me.
I will talk about my friends in the next question.
What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?
What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?
What are your strengths? What do people like about you? What do you like about yourself?
What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?
In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?
What things do you dislike doing? What things do you enjoy more than others?
What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future, and why?
What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)?
If you won the lottery and didn't have to work anymore, what would you do?
What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you?
How do you behave around strangers?
How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?
Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be?
How do you dress or manage your appearance?
Do you like kids? Why or why not?
In what situations or times in your life did you feel most fulfilled, and why?

-Stats: point buy (30), Array (add an 11) -Max starting stat after bonuses = 16. -Outcast scores per character based on species. Ravenloft is isolated & superstitious, they treat demihumans poorly in most domains. Some aren't allowed in towns. Providing a negative to persuasion, deception, & performance. Same number is a bonus to intimidation. -Starting gear = just clothes at arrival to Ravenloft if playing a local -Languages = standard languages only. [Common=Domain language.] (Many domains have their own unique human dialect.) -Some NPC dialogue will be done through Syrinscape.
-facing for PCs, adds a reaction to turn on a move, grants ADV to attacks, & stacks with flanking. -+2 flanking -bonus action potion drinking self action for others -3 inspiration slots (crit failure = +1 inspiration) -hitting 1/2 HP while flying causes one to fall, a reaction can be used to fall safety -optional actions from the DMG -Remove curse allows for a saving throw to be rolled -Dark powers checks (the Dark Powers "reward" those who fight evil with evil with twisted powers. At 7 to 10 failures one becomes a Darklord themselves. ) -Expanded skills -Added tools: ie tattoo tools (scrolls copied onto bodies) -Added weapon & armor properties & types -languages will have some importance (Locals get 1 starting language for non nobles, & 2 for nobles) -Healing kit dependancy -Empowered necromancy (always a dark powers check to cast 1%×spell level cast at. +1 spell level, +1 Attack, +1 DMG per die, cantrips are half damage saves) -horror, sanity, & fear checks -Encumbrance & ammunition tracking -Converted rules & features from 2E/3E that adjust class ability mechanics, some spell mechanics (ie, banishment teleports one randomly in Ravenloft it does not provide a means to escape).
-Animal companions & familiars are always evil, though share the ethical alignment. They gain +3d6 INT resist non magical physical damage, double HD, & two attacks. This is due to fact that there is no extra dimensional space for familiars to be sent to.
-Mechanical Alterations to magic: Ie "Wish: This spell functions only if the Dark Powers allow it to. The Dark Powers usually grant the wish, but they always try to pervert its intent. Thus, this spell rarely performs as desired when cast in Ravenloft. When evil characters wish for something dark and twisted, they have a 50% chance of receiving their wish exactly as requested, indicating that the Dark Powers deemed the wish's intent to be already corrupted.
A wish intended to allow you to escape from Ravenloft, destroy a darklord, or otherwise violate one of the basic tenets of the land simply fails. Any wish used for evil requires a powers check." -Banishment doesn't allow escape from Ravenloft -Summoning outsiders, & elementals trap them in Ravenloft, & they know it. -Raised dead get a save to retain their individuality

2024.05.13 12:04 TheShadowspawn Volume 2: Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen – Alien

Pilot Reeda: “Human Dave, why is there a film series named ‘Alien?’”
Human Dave, Captain, Doctor, Quartermaster, and Pilot Reeda are seated on the comfortable couches in the cargo hold, with the Aflarrians milling around in front of the group, and Hope seated on Captain’s lap.
Doctor has a large bowl of popcorn in her lap, and occasionally tosses a piece towards the Aflarrians, who all patiently wait their turn to leap up and catch the offered snack.
Human Dave turns to face Pilot Reeda, who decided to show up at the last moment before the movie selection process could begin, and ponders her question for a moment.
Human Dave: “Well, that particular film series was made a very long time ago. Back when we thought that life on other worlds was a myth.”
PR: “The title seems offensive.”
HD: “I assure you that it’s not. The creatures in that film series were so different; so completely alien to us that it ended up traumatising every generation of human that ever saw it.”
PR: “That hardly changes things, Human Dave. How can a species be trusted when they name things with such carelessness?”
HD: “Was there no time in the entirety of Watrin history where your people didn’t believe there was anyone else out there in the universe?”
PR: “... that is beside the point.”
Alien Captain: “It would seem as though Pilot Reeda simply wishes to argue with you, Human Dave.”
Quartermaster: “I concur. I believe she is attempting to hide her nervousness at joining us by engaging in a verbal argument with Human Dave. The argument has little to no merit, and I believe that Pilot Reeda also knows this, but refuses to back down.”
PR: “Would the peanut gallery please shut up?”
AC: “What is a ‘peanut gallery?’”
HD: “She means the audience to any event. It’s an old reference to when humans used to attend theatre plays, and the people who sat in the cheap seats basically ate peanuts while the play was going on.”
QM: “What is a peanut?”
Alien Doctor: “Another Terran-based snack, but it would not be safe for Cradelians to eat them, due to the presence of certain chemicals contained within. They would wreak havoc on our digestive systems, and possibly cause death if ingested in excess.”
HD: “Well, the same could be said for anything grown on Terra. Or, anything in general. You eat too much of anything, and it’ll eventually be bad for you.”
AD: “This is true.”
PR: “Doesn’t change the fact that you have put such a title onto one of your forms of media.”
HD: “Does that mean you want to watch it?”
PR: “...”
HD: “Does anyone have any issues with Reeda’s choice? It is a horror genre movie, and it’s not even a technicality like with Jaws. Lots of people die in this one, and quite graphically, if I recall correctly.”
AD: “More graphically than Jaws?”
HD: “Actually, in some ways, yes. Xenomorphs have a very interesting life cycle, and they’re very aggressive, even for a fictional species.”
AD: “Xeno... morph?”
HD: “Yeah. Actually, Doctor, I think you’d really like the movies, from a medical practitioner’s perspective. They reproduce by... actually, I think it’d be better if you watch it yourself. Don’t want to spoil any of it. Plus, I’d like to see your unfiltered and unadulterated reaction to the film itself.”
AD: “You are not filling me with confidence after hearing that, Human Dave.”
HD: “Aw, come on. You liked Jaws, so you should be good with gore.”
QM: “THERE IS GORE?!”
HD: “Well, no more than expected, I think. It’s a bit graphic, but it shouldn’t be too bad.”
PR: “How many humans die in this film?”
HD: “... only you would ask that. A lot of them. There aren’t many in the movie, mind you, but a lot of them die.”
AC: “Why do you insist on showing us the worst imagery of your species, Human Dave?”
HD: “Hey, I didn’t choose this one. If anyone’s to blame, it’s Reeda. And she just wants to see people die.”
PR: “Humans. I wish to see humans die.”
HD: “... imagining them all with my face, are you?”
PR: “Yes.”
HD: “... that’s very hurtful, Reeda’Tila-Lasoran.”
PR: “Fuck you, human!”
HD: “There we go. That passive-aggressive crap you were just using really doesn’t suit you.”
Pilot Reeda glares at the human sitting on the other side of the cargo bay.
PR: “If I want your opinion, human, I’ll fucking well ask for it!”
HD: “... okay, that’s taking the banter a little too far now.”
Human Dave stands up, and makes his way over to Pilot Reeda, who is clearly trying to ignore the approaching human.
HD: “Are you okay? You’re not usually this angry.”
PR: “I’m fine. Just put the damn movie on.”
HD: “... one thing I have learned in my life is that when someone says they’re fine, it actually means they’re not fine. Reeda, talk to me. What’s wrong?”
PR: “Nothing is wrong! I came here because you requested it of me. But I can very easily leave, Human Dave!”
AC: “That is not necessary, Pilot Reeda. Human Dave, please put the movie on. I am intrigued by what you have described, but would appreciate some more information regarding the premise.”
Human Dave eyes Pilot Reeda curiously for a moment, before returning to his seat, and taking a breath.
HD: “Well, it’s about a crew of humans in stasis investigating a distress signal, and having to contend with not only political plots, but an actual living organism in what was previously a cold, dead universe.”
AC: “I do not understand. Surely there would be life in some form or another in this fictional universe? Are we to believe that there is no native flora or fauna on any planet that humans visit?”
HD: “I think it was heavily implied that the planets they visited were barren for some reason or another. To be fair, back when the movies were made, the space program was still in its infancy, and the idea of trying to find a planet that would be suitable for humans was appealing, but we had to face the inevitable reality that finding a Goldilock’s world suitable for us was quite a tall ask.”
QM: “Goldilock’s world? I am unfamiliar with this term.”
HD: “It’s a reference to an old bedtime story that human tell their children. Basically, it refers to the need to find a world that is neither too hot, nor too cold to support human life. A similar life lesson is taught in the bedtime story, which is where we get the name.”
QM: “Curious. We do not have such a custom amongst Cradelians. At least, I am unaware of such customs among Cradelians, as I only have experience with my own family. Captain, is this the same for your own family?”
AC: “I am unaware of such a custom as well, Quartermaster. Doctor?”
AD: “As far as I am aware, it is not a part of Cradelian culture, as Cradelians do not require much sleep, nor have any issues achieving sleep. So, I am in agreement with Captain and Quartermaster. May I ask what the purpose of a bedtime story is, Human Dave?”
HD: “Sure. Humans, especially children, have way too much energy when they’re young. That sort of flags as they get older, but they’re always full of energy when they’re little. A bedtime story is sometimes necessary for them to receive some sort of stimulation while winding down in preparation for sleep.”
Human Dave looks thoughtful for a moment, before continuing his train of thought.
HD: “I think I touched on this a while back, but kids need routines sometimes, and sleep happens to be something different for everyone. Some kids need quiet to sleep, and some kids need something to amuse themselves while winding down. Stories seem to work for a lot of kids, since sometimes, the sounds of their parents’ voices is soothing to them, and gets them ready for sleep. The story itself doesn’t really matter, aside from personal preference; it’s more listening to something monotonous is calming enough to make them sleep.”
AD: “Most strange. Cradelians can simply close their eyes, and rest for the allotted time necessary for recovery.”
HD: “... I think every human would be very envious of you Cradelians if they found out about that. Sleep doesn’t come easy as humans get older. And quality of sleep declines as well. Not to mention dreams and stuff.”
AC: “Dreams? What are dreams?”
Human Dave’s eyes widen dramatically, as he stares at Captain, then turns his head to look at Doctor and Quartermaster, who have similar incomprehensible expressions on their faces.
HD: “... you guys don’t dream?”
AD: “We do not, Human Dave. I am aware of your nightmares where you relive your fears and traumas, but it is not something Cradelians experience.”
AC: “Humans relive frightening experiences when they sleep?”
Captain looks at Human Dave with a mixture of pity and understanding, to which Human Dave stands up and begins pacing.
HD: “Please don’t look at me like that, Captain. The very reason I don’t talk about it is because I don’t want people looking at me like that. But I’m fine. I hardly dream about anything that I’ve gone through, anyway.”
QM: “Human Dave, did you not just say that when people say that they are fine, that they are, in fact, not fine?”
HD: “Oh, nice. Using my own words against me.”
QM: “Is there unresolved trauma for you, Human Dave? I have seen it debilitate most every person I have treated in my previous role as Medic, but I have not had the pleasure of seeing how it affects the human mind, so I am uncertain if your current defensiveness is a result of us attempting to be understanding, but unable to, since we do not understand humans as well as another would, or if it is a reflection on your current mental state.”
HD: “How did this turn around onto me? I’m alright. I’m seeing a therapist for my own issues, so I’d appreciate it if you guys would just drop it.”
AD: “... very well. However, if you do need someone to speak with, the doors to Medbay are open to all.”
Doctor noticeably turns her head to look at Pilot Reeda, who nods imperceptibly before looking away.
HD: “Okay, hopefully, now that we’re done discussing my many, many issues, can we watch the horror movie?”
...
Silence rings throughout the cargo hold as the end credits roll.
Three Cradelians, and one Klofi-Watrin, sit in mute horror at the movie they just watched.
PR: “... I take it back. I take it all back. The title is fitting. Very fitting. I apologise for ever doubting you, Human Dave.”
HD: “I don’t blame you, Reeda. I had the exact same expression on my face the first time I saw it, too.”
AC: “What exactly did you just make us watch, Human Dave?”
HD: “Arguably, one of the best science fiction horror movies ever made by humans.”
AD: “I am both very disturbed and confused, Human Dave. Why is the life cycle of this species so superfluous? Why is there a need to have those things attach themselves to the faces of humans? Other than implantation of the embryo into a host species? Would it not be easier for the fully developed creature to simply implant the embryo on its own?”
HD: “Well,--”
AD: “In addition, why did it take so long for humans to detect the distress/warning signal from the ship on the planet, and why did they not deactivate it when they were on board? Would this not cause an repeat of this exact scenario if another ship were to pick up the signal?”
HD: “That’s actually—”
AD: “And, probably the biggest question I have is, how did the alien creature grow to such a size in only a matter of hours? It did not show the creature consuming any biological matter, and I have concerns as to how such a creature would eat to make up for its lack of food to fuel such a rapid growth in mere hours from the form from which it emerged from the chest of that particular human. Does it eat through the smaller jaw inside its mouth? Or is the purpose of that jaw merely as a weapon?”
HD: “So, it’s—”
AD: “In fact, is the creature itself some form of sentient bioweapon? It does not appear capable of communication, and if it were capable of such, how would it communicate? I observed no evidence of a tongue, nor any higher thought processes other than to kill its prey, but the hunting process itself was flawed. It did not hunt for food, as far as I observed; it killed for the sake of killing.”
HD: “...”
AD: “It would serve no purpose as a bioweapon, as it appears to be completely uncontrollable, and acts solely on instinct. And if more of those... egg things... were dropped onto a planet, it would be overrun by those creatures, and become a nest of sorts for the creatures, which have proven to be immensely difficult to kill. How would anyone take control of a planet covered in these creatures?”
HD: “If you would let me answer, Doctor?
Doctor pauses for a moment, before a faint dusting of blue appears on her face.
AD: “I apologise, Human Dave. It appears that I have allowed myself to become far too invested in the narrative of the movie.”
HD: “That’s alright. In regards to the life cycle, I don’t actually know why it’s like that. I always guessed it was just to keep the embryos safe, in case the fully grown one got hurt or something.”
AC: “What could hurt something like that? It seemed even more an apex predator than humans do.”
HD: “Well, most living organisms are weak to fire, and in the sequels, that gets touched on, but, just as an aside, fire seems to be the best method for most predators. So, if you get cornered, that’s what you should use to get away.”
QM: “Did the creature survive being blasted by the engines?”
HD: “... I mean, maybe? It’s left ambiguous, I think, because not much can survive the vacuum of space, and if it free-falls into the atmosphere of the planet they just left, it’d probably burn up on re-entry.”
AD: “They did not touch upon the large, dead creature that had appeared on the other ship, either.”
HD: “The Space Jockeys weren’t the focus of the film. Actually, until the expanded media, they weren’t even acknowledged as a major part of the narrative; I think they were just there to serve as evidence of an advanced civilisation that had the eggs in stasis, rather than actually giving them an active role in the story.”
AC: “’Space Jockeys?’”
HD: “The term ‘Space Jockeys’ cropped up during production of the film, but where they got it, I’m not sure. They have a species name, but it was a weird one that I don’t quite remember. This movie was actually one of the reasons that humans were sceptical about the Galactic Community in the beginning, because if this was something that we could think up, then how bad could it actually be out here?”
AD: “I can wholeheartedly assure you, Human Dave, that there is nothing like this in the galaxy. If there were, there would be no Galactic Community, since it would not survive against such a lifeform.”
HD: “Thank God for that, at least. What else did you ask again?”
AC: “The distress signal, and whether they are bioweapons, Human Dave.”
HD: “Couldn’t tell you about the distress signal, since I don’t think it was deactivated either, but you sort of hit the nail on the head with the bioweapon theory.”
AD: “... nail on the head?”
QM: “A crude form of building by driving pieces of metal into other materials to bind them together, Doctor.”
AD: “I am aware of what a nail is Quartermaster. I am confused by the turn of phrase Human Dave used.”
HD: “I meant to say that you managed to guess correctly the first time around. The Xenomorphs were released as a bioweapon, but quickly got out of control once they establish a foothold on any planet.”
AD: “Is there any hope of reclaiming the planet once a foothold is established?”
HD: “Short of glassing the planet, no. Once a Xenomorph infestation starts, it’s almost impossible to reclaim the planet without it.”
AC: “I was originally of the impression that such a method would be too much, but after having seen this movie, and imagining a planet of them, I am in agreement.”
PR: “Me too. I don’t think even an army of Stana-Watrin would be able to stand against just one, let alone a planet of them.”
AD: “At least the movie ended on a somewhat happy note. And with the death of the creature. I do not condone violence, but in this case, I believe it was warranted.”
HD: “Well, buckle up, because there are three more movies in the franchise after this one.”
AC: “... what?”
...
News Announcer: “And, in other news, the unexplained communications breakdown in the Taurus Sector has been the focus of many.
There have been many calls for investigation, and a petition for Terran High Command to send a warship to investigate has accumulated several hundred-thousand signatures.
In addition to this, many have expressed a desire to volunteer to be part of the investigative team, stating concerns that their family members are among those no longer communicating.
Terran High Command has released a statement; proclaiming that they are sending their flagship, the TSF Trailblazer, to head the investigation, as the lack of communication has reached the week-long mark.
All ships are advised not to enter the Taurus Sector until investigations have concluded, as per the statement released by Terran High Command.
“We do not wish for civilian interference, as such a thing may interfere with the investigation that has yet to commence. We ask for patience and understanding in this trying time, as we intend not to abandon our distant brethren, and discover exactly why a breakdown in communications has occurred,” a spokesperson for Terran High Command stated earlier today.
The TSF Trailblazer, humanity’s flagship, helmed by one Commander Nathaniel Beckett, a decorated war hero, and Designated Voice for Humanity, will be sent within the next few days to perform the investigation, alongside members of the UECA, that will assist in the investigation.
(What the Hell is the UECA?)
More on this story as it unfolds.”

2024.05.13 09:02 gruvyasf My parents didn't take my eating disorder seriously and I will never not resent them for it

(TW for talk of eating disorders and graphic talk of bulimia)
I had anorexia and bulimia from the ages of 12-14, and then just straight bulimia until I was 18, and if I'm being honest, I still struggle with food to this day. I look back on when I was deep in it, and I cannot believe my parents didn't send me to inpatient or at least outpatient. The most they did was yell at me when they found out about it for lying about having an ED (which is crazy because my dad is literally a therapist who has worked with anorexic clients, he's fully aware secrecy is a huge part of EDs), take me to a couple doctor's appointments where even the doctors said I should at least be in outpatient and then ignore that, and send me to a couple therapists who didn't specialize in EDs and were awful so that only lasted a couple months. Granted, that's better than nothing, but considering how bad it was, or how bad any eating disorder is, it's actually insane that that's all they did. None of it helped at all. I would tell them I didn't want or need any treatment, but why on earth would they listen to me? They would also always tell me how sad it made them that I was doing this to myself. If you're really that sad, you as the parent should be doing everything in your power help me and they didnt.
My mom fully enabled it, she would buy me all the low calorie foods I asked for, which I can understand from a viewpoint of "at least they're eating", but when you factor in that I was trying to figure out how to recover all by myself and it clearly wasn't working, why didn't she try to get me professional help? It wasn't a money issue either, we weren't rich but we definitely weren't scrounging for money, and when it comes to your child who is clearly suffering and trying to die, money should be the least of your worries.
I remember a when I was like 15 my dad took me to the doctors office for a checkup or something, and he put "has a history with eating disorder tendencies"..... tendencies???? I. was. starving. myself. to. death. I was throwing up multiple times a day and knew about it. I cannot believe they didn't take it more seriously. They knew exactly how bad it was and for some reason refused to get me the help I needed, and Im still picking up the pieces to this day. I can't even bring it up to them without them performing some olympic gold winning level mental gymnastics to throw it back in my face.
Now, Im not totally sure that my parents are narcissists, I've blocked out most of my childhood and things that they've said to me so it's hard to deduce with any certainty. But at the very least they have narcissistic tendencies and are entitled mormon assholes who have no idea what it means to love your kid unconditionally and get them help when they need it.

2024.05.13 06:17 PerformanceGlad8460 Advice Needed. Horrible Roommate. Long post.

I moved in with an old friend not too long ago and at first everything was fine. Rescued an older dog, roommate said they were fine with the dog being in the house and even offered to help out with the dog if need be. We’d clean the apartment once every two weeks, we cleaned our own dishes, and everything was great.
For the last two months, living with my roommate has been hell. My roommate has been ordering DoorDash every night (there is a mountain and I mean MOUNTAIN of DoorDash bags, food wrappers, kitchenware, and beer bottles on their bed that they sleep with and all over their floor), has been smoking & drinking alone in their room every night (they leave their window wide open day in and day out, screen is open too. Their room is physically behind the dumpster. There are so many flys in their room, I had to kill a dozen of them yesterday because they got into the living room and the room has this thick dank smell), they have caused so much damage to the apartment (trying to fix the damage they caused led to further damage) that there is not a shot in hell I’m getting my deposit back, and is constantly complaining about my dog; granted, the dog does relieve themself in the kitchen on weewee pads after being home alone for 3+ hours if I’m working away from home during the day (my dog is great and is an absolute gem and this is only an every so often issue as I have family in the area who help take my dog out and I WFH most weeks). The amount of body hair I see everyday in the shower, sink, and on the toilet seat is just straight rancid; not enough Clorox wipes in the world to keep up with. Also, my roommate is just an intolerable person to be around. They are cocky and condescending; straight up emotionally/verbally abusive.
On top of this, my roommate just recently admitted to me that they’ve been lying to their employer about their degree, this on top of a long list of lies that I’ve recently found out weren’t true that I don’t even know what to believe anymore.
Also, they’ve mentioned wanting to purchase a firearm. For Halloween, we were going to a mutual friend’s party and carpooled over. They placed a BB gun in the center console to get my reaction; it scared the shit out of me and made me very uncomfortable as I thought they purchased a real one.
I want to get as far away from them as possible but have no options. I can’t afford to move out, I have no family to move in with and don’t know what to do. I genuinely think my roommate is unstable and I worry if I say anything they will either become violent with me or towards my dog (they’ve talked about how they would “boop” ((hit)) their family dog to discipline them and suggested I do the same because of my dog relieving themselves on the weewee pads in the kitchen). I’m considering surrendering my dog temporarily until I figure it out for their own safety.
Any advice would be appreciated, I’ve talked about this issue with friends from work and the only advice they have is to move out but I don’t have that option.

2024.05.13 05:36 -cosmic-bitch- My First Time at [Holiday World] - Trip Report

My First Time at [Holiday World] - Trip Report
[The Raven] and [The Voyage] are pictured. Also, honeysuckles at the base of The Voyage.
Trip Report, Sunday, 05/12/2024 Waterpark was closed for the day. Every coaster except Good Gravy had a station wait. I went solo. I didn't ride anything this trip except the coasters.
My overall thoughts: This place is really in the middle of nowhere and I love it. The park was super clean. The staff was very nice, but it seemed like a lot of them were new employees. The theming was in some ways cool and a little cheesy/tacky in other ways (Dollywood is my home park though, so my expectations are just high). Halloween is my favorite holiday and they are missing opportunities here unfortunately. The sound of the Legend's bell is the coolest thing in this section. The Thanksgiving section somehow had the best music. There were a lot of places to sit and chill and the bathrooms are so conveniently placed. The whole park had a very nice, chill atmosphere. And the park smelled like honeysuckles because they were everywhere behind the fences.
I bought a pineapple/strawberry twist dole whip which was wonderful. And I bought an alcoholic iced peach tea, which was surprisingly good and not sickeningly sweet like I was worried it would be. Did not purchase food food this visit. But I do have a dairy allergy and I noticed at least some of their online menu is likely not accurate when it comes to the allergen guide, so be careful with that and ask for the binder boi guide at each individual place if it's a concern.
From my perspective, there's a pretty okay mix of coasters considering this is a smaller park. Even with 3 of them being similar woodies, they all have a personality. I love that all the coasters except Good Gravy go out into the woods. Nothing terribly scenic, but it's still nice. I am excited for night rides. The woodies were a little more rough on me than I was expecting, but still -mostly- smooth experiences. However, a small amount of debris was flying in my face/eyes on the woodies.. wonder if it's wood chips/sawdust from track updates? Or maybe just stuff that fell out of trees after those storms?? There was something notably large enough on Voyage that if it had hit my eye rather than my cheek, I think it would have damaged my actual eyeball. But thankfully, it wasn't a big deal.
Some random and potentially helpful observations: The pepsi oasis stations all have a few variations of drink options, but like half of them do not have water at them for some reason. I recommend bringing an empty bottle.
I honestly do not understand the tram system here, but they do have one. I just walked but it was not far at all. However, I did lose where I parked my car for a couple minutes.
You can place your bag/items at the station on every coaster. They have bins for loose articles.
Ride Reviews:
The Raven (7/10)(x1): I thought this was good! A bit rougher than the others and kind of short compared to everything else. But I enjoyed it and I liked the turn that went out over the water.
The Legend (10/10)(x2): Okay, hear me out.. I think I liked this one the best. I'm going to have to re-ride this and The Voyage later this season to really know for sure. They both have hella tunnels and I am so into that. But upon my first impression, I like the forces and elements on the Legend the most. I love the drop, the laterals, and the one very strong pop of airtime near the end. This coaster just has so much character.
Also, short story time! On my first ride, the train was just dispatched out of the station. While it was moving, an employee reached over the yellow safety line to grab a fallen scrunchie and the ride op immediately emergency stopped the train. We were able to get re-dispatched quickly. Just thought it was interesting and the ride op did a great job. He probably just saw someone in his peripherals go over that line and he did not hesitate. But who knows what that other employee was thinking haha.
Good Gravy (7/10)(x1): So this one I liked! It understandably had the longest wait, which was about 20-30 mins. Super cool theming. I chose to ride in the very back row. I'm sure most of you know, this ride is really the same type of coaster as Big Bear Mountain except it's a small boomerang. I would say the forces are pretty similar, and it's just as smooth. From the back row, I enjoyed the initial drop/launch and backwards portion the most. I assume for front row, the best part would be the spike. It was super short, but you do go through a cranberry can while riding in a gravy boat haha. The novelty of it all makes this coaster super fun. I also love the color scheme. Good Gravy vibes all around. I hope Holiday World adds more family coasters for the sake of the GP hahaha.
Thunderbird (9/10)(x3): I rode this one the most times because it had no wait and I basically climbed mount everest to get there lol. Got front row edge seat every time, and I tried out both sides. This ride is awesome. More forceful than Wild Eagle for sure. The loopdy loops and pulls were so snappy and fun. Great hang time at the end. I like the launch and the following element a lot, but I do think I prefer Wild Eagle's 200 ft drop to this launch. It was kind of a relief to ride this in the middle of the wooden coasters.
The Voyage (10/10)(x1): This was epic, but it was a lot to handle. It was really really fun and very long. I loved all the drops. The first drop and second hill and drop were glass smooth. There was one very, very rough spot somewhere in the layout but other than that, it was an enjoyable and intense experience. I was already exhausted by this point so next trip, I'm riding this first. But, man, was this ride a whole experience haha :)

🤔 Final Thoughts 🤔
Kylea showed her narcissistic greed posting triggering content all week without disclaimers or warnings in clear violation of Meta policy on explicit content and tragedy & conflict. If that is not enough to demonetize and deplatform her, her obvious signs of disordered eating should. Her messaging is dangerous, potentially deadly, and I, for one, ask our friends at Meta to review her content and take action.

2024.05.13 03:33 fishinglineandsinker My 11 year old niece watches Hazbin

Jesus fucking Christ.
Tl;Dr my sister let's her 11 year old watch Hazbin and I have no idea how I'm suppose to interact with her kid about it like that's normal.
So, story time. I go to my mother's house for mother's day. I see one of my nieces drawing and I go to ask her about it. I airways go out of my way to try and engage with all the kids so this wasn't out of the usual for me to ask.
I see she's drawing something that looks like Pentious and I ask her what it is. She says "It'd Sir Pentious from this show called Hazbin Hotel."
Yall my jaw hit the floor. I asked her where she saw it, fully expecting that I would be ratting her out to her mother later, but nope, her mom knows she watches it! Her mother knows and let's her 11 YEAR OLD watch this show.
I ask her mother if she's seen it. She says no. I tell her there is graphic sex and she's like, oh yeah, that's fine. I don't care.
Yall?!??!?!?
I'm not a pearl clutcher. I watched South Park as a young teen. But 11, HAZBIN!!
I feel like a crazy person. This is my sister. I know she's not stupid, but I guess the allure of the ipad babysitter is too strong.
More happened but that's the basic version. I am blown away.
My niece was excited when she found out I watched it too and wanted to talk to me about it but I keep making excuses and walking away. I can tell it's bumming her out. We always talk about what shows she's into and what books she's been reading. This is first time in her life that I avoided her and I don't want her to feel unimportant but I have no idea how to handle a conversation with her without outright lying. It's objectively not okay that her mother is doing this. I won't support it, but I don't want to freak my niece out and make her think she's doing something wrong. Its not her fault her mother is a fucking idiot.
What the actual fuck. Sorry. I know this is long and I don't really have a point. I'm just flabbergasted. What the hell is wrong with people.
Idk if I'm a hypocrite because I watched shit I wasn't supposed to as a kid, but not 11 and not shut like this. I thought I was edgy for watching family guy at 13. This is too much.
UPDATE:
Okay, yall, idk if anyone wants an update, but here it is.
Someone in the comments sections suggested I try and bring this up with her in front of other adults. Another commenter suggested asking her why she liked Pentious. Thank you to both of these people! It worked like a charm.
We were preparing breakfast, and my niece was sitting with us in the kitchen. She had her sketchbook, so I asked to see what she'd drawn. She was very excited to show me.
I asked her why she liked him in particular, and she said she liked his ship and his outfit. (Steampunk, got it. I can push her towards something like this, but more age appropriate. Thank fuck.)
My sister was there along with our mother and two of my sisters in law. The next part when something like this
Me: Is he trying to get redeemed?
Niece: Yeah. He wants to go to Heaven but he's evil so he can't.
Me: Why is he evil?
Niece: He wants to be an Overlord but he's not good at it so he tries to go to Heaven instead.
At this point my mother was listening. She doesn't know what the show is and for like 5 minutes she got excited because she thought there was some popular animated show about Cheistian reception. Lmfao. Y'all I had to bite my tongue.
Me: Does he have friends at the hotel?
Niece: proceeds to describe the cast
Me: And what do they do together?
She then proceeded to describe the episode with the club scene. To whoever suggested this. Thank you. It worked like a charm. She started laughing when she described him getting pulled into a sex room and buying everyone alcohol. The word rizz was used.
My mother's jaw was on the floor. My in laws were glaring at my sister and she was bright red. It was glorious.
I had a moment of inspiration and asked her if she wanted to go with me to the bookstore after food to get more art supplies. I wanted to get her out of the house so her mother couldn't try to turn it around on her. She asked her mom if it was okay if she went. My mother answered for her and said yes. Lolololol. My mother never pulls rank like that.
It was like we were all kids again and my sister was about to get chewed out. Oh good times.
Anyway. After breakfast I took her and a couple of her cousins to the bookstore. I spent about 200 dollars buying them all shit so they wouldn't complain that she got something new and they didn't. But it was worth it to get them out of the house and distracted.
I bought a copy of Castle In The Sky (classic steam punk movie) and told her that if she liked Pentious's ship she'd love this. She was excited and I think the gifts and me saying sorry for not talking to her yesterday fixed things between us. She loves Miyazaki so I'm hoping this will become her new obsession. Fingers crossed.
Idk what the adults talked about while we were gone but my sister is super pissed at me and said that I didn't need to do that but she "gets it". My mother assured me that she got a thorough reaming and Hazbin will no longer be allowed in her house.
We don't all live together so idk if that will last but my sister seems embarrassed enough that hopefully it will stop. I'm just glad that I'm here with her and her daughter for the next few days so she won't take it out on her. It's not my nieces fault her mother is stupid.
All in all I'm hopeful that this is the end of it. My niece has spent the last hour or so drawing anime figures with her cousins. They're actually playing together instead of her being off by herself so I really think that she might move on. Fingers crossed.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and encouragement.
