2024.05.14 08:37 Ecstatic-Street-6855 Committing to next season in May
Hello! My 10 year old son has struggled with his 9u & 10u team. Not athletically, mind you, but with the vibe of the team. Current “B” team coach is highly passive aggressive and the team is daddy ball, for sure. My son has a big bat but didn’t make the “A” team for 9u due to baseball IQ. So he was not a candidate for that team in 10u. Last year in LL, he was an alternate for the all star team and this year he seems to be a shoe-in. Over 2 seasons of select/little league, his average is .420, 55 hits, 9 2B, 8 3B, 3 HR, 61 RBI, 59 R, 10 ROE, 2 FC. The kid can play. He is likable, coachable, and can will do well in any position asked of him. 9u he played with his best friend, but that players seemingly was not a good fit for 10u after his dad questioned the stats of the season (coach’s son bats 2nd with a .176 ave and 73 PA).
Help. Baseball is so weird. 😭
What do I do with his 10u coach wanting a commitment for next season by Fri 5/17? All-Star rosters are announced 5/18, his “B” team scrimmages the “A” team 5/19, and a big weekend of baseball is happening Memorial weekend. Does 5/17 seem early for anyone else? I am already planning to ask him his vision for the 11u season as he has not been at a single spring prac this year (there have been 3, March-today May 13). He coaches 2 softball teams and a LL team.
What are the expectations for 10 year old commitments?

2024.05.14 08:34 drambikachestclinic Chest Wall Cancer: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Symptoms of Chest Wall Cancer
The symptoms of chest wall cancer can vary depending on the type and stage of the tumor but generally include:
- Pain: Persistent pain in the chest area that may worsen with movement or breathing.
- Swelling or Lump: Noticeable mass or swelling in the chest wall.
- Breathing Difficulties: Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
- Chest Discomfort: General discomfort or tightness in the chest.
- Weight Loss: Unintended weight loss.
- Fatigue: Persistent tiredness or fatigue.
- Neurological Symptoms: If the tumor presses on nerves, it can cause numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms or legs.
Diagnosis of Chest Wall Cancer
Diagnosis involves several steps and tests to confirm the presence of cancer and its extent:
- Physical Examination: Initial assessment by a healthcare provider, including a review of medical history and symptoms.
- Imaging Studies:
- X-rays: Basic imaging to identify abnormalities in the chest wall.
- CT Scan (Computed Tomography): Detailed cross-sectional images to evaluate the size and spread of the tumor.
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): High-resolution images for detailed view, particularly of soft tissues.
- PET Scan (Positron Emission Tomography): Detects metabolic activity of cancer cells to determine the extent of spread.
- Biopsy:
- Needle Biopsy: A sample of the tumor tissue is taken using a needle for microscopic examination.
- Surgical Biopsy: Sometimes, a surgical procedure is necessary to obtain a tissue sample.
- Blood Tests: To assess overall health and detect markers that might suggest cancer.
Treatment of Chest Wall Cancer
Treatment options depend on the type, size, location, and stage of the tumor, as well as the patient’s overall health:
- Surgery:
- Resection: Removal of the tumor and some surrounding healthy tissue.
- Reconstructive Surgery: May be necessary to rebuild the chest wall using synthetic materials or tissue from other parts of the body.
- Radiation Therapy: High-energy rays to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors. Often used before surgery (neoadjuvant) to reduce tumor size or after surgery (adjuvant) to destroy remaining cancer cells.
- Chemotherapy: Drugs that kill cancer cells or stop them from growing. It can be systemic (throughout the body) or localized.
- Targeted Therapy: Uses drugs or other substances to specifically target cancer cells without affecting normal cells.
- Immunotherapy: Boosts the body's immune system to fight cancer.
- Pain Management and Palliative Care: Focuses on relieving symptoms and improving quality of life for patients with advanced cancer.
Conclusion
Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving the prognosis of chest wall cancer. If you experience any persistent symptoms such as chest pain, swelling, or difficulty breathing, consult a healthcare provider promptly. Multidisciplinary approaches combining surgery, radiation, and systemic therapies offer the best outcomes, tailored to the individual needs of the patient.

2024.05.14 08:21 Hot-Aside-96 Misaligned Sac
This was my second icsi fertilised egg transfer. I had my first beta on May 9th. Initial numbers were great for a 12days post transfer. I had a tvs today(May 14) and the gestational sac was off centre to the left. I have a follow up scan in another 9 days. Out of fear or frustration i told my husband why did this start off this way.
I had 3 previous pregnancy loses already from 2017-2020.
My husband rather than being supportive dissed me for being negative. He said my expectations ruins things. I am always looking at things to be perfect. He went on to say if you are not happy with this start thinking about next transfer. That way it will not add any negativity to the present one. He also said I am cursing the baby in my womb. He asked me if I am so afraid why go through this and why did I not choose a less invasive route which is adoption. So much more stuff which hurt me.
I am in our home country with my mom and his work place is a different country. All these were said on text messages.
I may be paranoid for nothing and this is not in my hands. Why do i still feel sad and not excited about the sac I saw? I cannot stop crying.

2024.05.14 08:13 j_gher04 I messed it all up and need help
I finished my freshman year and I’m majoring in Physics. During my second semester I fell into a horrible depression where I became completely dysfunctional. I managed to pass my hardest course (sophomore-level Quantum Physics) with an A; but my cumulative gpa still went down from a 3.7 to a 2.9 in the 4.0 scale.
I have been working as a Research assistant the past few months and got an offer to extend my position for the summer. I was also a TA for intro Astronomy.
I want to dedicate my life to research and trying to figure out answers for questions that arise in Physics. I dream of becoming a PhD in Physics - and I am outraged by how badly I performed last semester. Specially considering that Physics is a very competitive field.
Is there anyone out there that went through something similar? How did you work it out? What are some techniques you used to deepen your understanding on the subject? Besides obviously strengthening my academics in my remaining undergrad years, what are some extracurriculars that might boost a PhD application?
Any help is greatly appreciated

2024.05.14 08:13 Sammyrey1987 The key to marriage
Yall, I’ve had this Reddit account for years but never actually used it. While enjoying my insomnia I decided to give it a whirl… and this shit is wild. After reading a ton of posts in this subreddit here are some things I think some of you need to know. (I’ve been with my husband for 10 years)
1.) Date him when you’re fat! - guys… the shear amount of posts where men can’t stand their wives weight and these women feel like they need to maintain the same body they had at 25 is INSANE! I’ve never been happier than I am tonight that my husband met me with a few extra pounds. 😂
2.) Find the unappreciated men! - if you’re looking for dudes who will love you for the long haul find the ones that flew under the radar! My husband is hot as hell, and is only getting better with age. He was a big kid and hit his glow up right before we met. He is humble and kind and women were stupid to pass him by.
3.) Suck it…. On more than his birthday
4.) Trade off on spoon positions! - don’t sleep on the power of being the big spoon! Im 5’4” and my husband is 6’2”. Sure his back is getting most of the love, but he keeps my boobs warm and he loves the change up.
5.) DO NOT LET FAMILY FUCK WITH YOUR RELATIONSHIP! - toxic family? Get your shit in order immediately! Communication is key with your partner and boundaries with family. You are each other’s priority. End of story.
6.) Rough times come in waves - You will continue to grow and change because that’s what humans do. Marriage means doing that together and often that comes at different times. Communication is crucial. Patience is a virtue, and sometimes you just gotta be the bigger person.
7.) Have hobbies and friends! - you don’t have to do everything together… seriously. You are still an individual! It’s ok to have your own time and space. My husband loves hiking. I would rather read in a hammock. He goes fishing and I would rather throw some clay. And that’s great! Have one or two things you love to do together, but don’t change everything about yourself to make someone happy. That’s dumb and will only lead to resentment.
8.) Own your sex life! - try new things, sit on his face, stick a finger somewhere… just laugh and enjoy 😉 ladies, I promise you that a true ride or die hubby will not care if your legs aren’t shaved and your thighs could crush a watermelon. Let go of those insecurities that are holding you back!
9.) Talk about kids/responsibilities BEFORE you get married! - I wanted kids, he didn’t. Accept that what your partner is telling you is what they mean! And then decide if they are worth the compromise. If you both want kids you damn sure better talk about childcare, chores, meals, money, etc. BEFORE you push out that bundle of potential divorce.
10.) You only get one life. - Really, just one… so make sure you’re with a person who you can look back in 40 years and think, damn… how lucky am I.

2024.05.14 08:09 inherdisco Feeling cringe about losing weight
Do y’all ever feel cringe about being on a WL journey?
I leaned in heavily (hah!) to the body-positive rhetoric for ages and it made me so critical of weight loss and diet culture that now I feel so cringe about losing weight, even after losing steadily for over 9 months.
I want to celebrate success and I see people proudly post before/after photos but when I look at my “before” photos, I feel so embarrassed about how hot I thought I was, when I was so obviously unwell. It feels cringe to celebrate undoing what I was so oblivious to under my delusion that I was hot and fat 🙈
How did you get over yourself/out of your head to just enjoy the journey?

2024.05.14 08:09 87degreesinphoenix I threw away a beautiful relationship after 9 years because I hate myself
I hope this will either give you comfort to know you're not alone, or that your ex may be regretful for whatever reason.
9 years, been together since 18 and I just could not do it anymore. She was the only person who enjoyed me without any qualifications, and she was the first person I ever felt comfortable being some amount of myself around. She was the only person I've ever felt such curiosity for, I just wanted to know everything about her. From her favorite things and worst memories, to the mundane annoyances and joys of her every day. I think she liked the attention I gave her or something, because I was just a mentally ill loser when we met and I never really changed, I just got a job. Still, she loved me with all her heart.
In the last few years, I relied on her to validate my worth since she was the only thing I really ever loved in my life and nothing beyond the relationship gave me pride/joy. She relied on me for support in basically every aspect of her life -- emotional, physical, financial, chores, even some career-wise. We took turns being mentally unwell, but this time I just couldn't wait for her turn to be up for whatever reason. She started getting better and doing a lot of those things she does when she is happy, and I just reached a point of burnout (from multiple sources) that I became slightly resentful of the support I gave while at the same time feeling like she was abandoning me to spend time with other people when I needed help.
I couldn't talk to her about it. I was afraid she wouldn't take it serious, or that by even voicing my feelings it would unravel all her progress. Things of that nature happen during any decade long relationship, and had, but I stopped trying to even talk about it during the last few months. I was just afraid. At the time of the breakup, when I blindsided her, I really thought every little thing way she let me down in regard to my unspoken expectations was proof she didn't like or care about me anymore. I was so wrong. I am just toxically independent and hid my feelings, while she lived her life like a normal person with a normal partner who loves and communicates. I really felt afraid of the dynamic we had to the point that I couldn't admit my feelings in part for fear of hurting her, and so I just decided to end it. Normal, right?
I pictured the breakup in my head for about a month before a big emotional event triggered a hypo-manic episode on top of my deep depression, and it has not gone how I thought it would. I thought she'd cry for a couple weeks, but because of the friends she'd be living with, she'd get over me pretty quick since she had support and love all around and people to spend time with. Maybe she'd get better faster without me hanging around and being a downer all the time? I thought I'd end up spending a couple weeks getting my affairs in order and practicing my knots before taking an early exit, or I'd end up becoming a hermit who just worked his stupid little job to live in his dumb little 1 bedroom apartment for the rest of his life. To that end, I removed myself from all the group chats and stopped talking to mutual friends, so that she could have all the support they could provide. They were 90% of the people I talked to outside of work. It was self-abuse wrapped up as me doing a favor for her, which I can see now.
How it's gone is that she ended up in the hospital for a weeklong hold and I'm cycling between pretending to practice radical self-care and literally beating myself up while drinking/smoking alone in our home on a monday night. I'm just so stupid for thinking this would be a good outcome for anyone. Now its been 7 months since I fucked it all up, and after some back and forth we've agreed to go NC until the 12 month mark. I can't stop thinking about her, the pain I caused her, all the times I told her I wanted to marry her before I just stopped wanting it one day. I can't stop thinking about getting back together with her, and just doing it all again because I had a really bad week or something. I have a much better understanding of myself/why I do things or think certain ways now, but that hasn't changed me really. I'm afraid I can't change, and even if I moved on, I'd just do this all again to a new person.
I guess I wish, at the very least, that I knew what I do now back when I dumped her. I was still figuring things out and told her a lot of stuff that I was only feeling in the moment but didn't really understand. Some of it just isn't true anymore, some of it didn't need to be heard, but a lot of it is just symptoms of greater problems that would have resolved themselves if I just waited a couple months. All of it hurt her more than she needed to be hurt. I wish I never hurt her in the first place.
At this point, I am choosing to do those things that healthy people do (exercise, rest, therapy, being social, family) because I'm hoping she'll appreciate it and will have been doing the same things when I see her next. But if we're not both strongemore resilient people when that happens, we can not start a new relationship without the threat of a repeat hanging over us. So we just can not start again. And then what? I fucked up my life and then spent a year building a new one just to not have her back in it? The obvious answer is "yes," but the only answer I can really believe in is "I wasted a year of effort building a life for a guy I don't even like and I didn't even get what I wanted out of it." Its such a stupid position to put yourself into and I hate myself more than ever for doing it. I want to be positive, but it's hard.
If you're reading this post before you decide to dump someone you still love and you're also unwell, just please get into therapy and submit to the process. If you end up staying a few extra months getting your head right before you break it off, that's great! You will have an easier recovery and not so much guilt! If you get right and figure out how to solve your relationship issues(literally just talking 90% of the time), awesome! But to not give yourself that help just opens you up to this pain and guilt and crisis, even if it is the correct decision.

2024.05.14 07:52 NovaCynical What Should My Next Certification Be?
I am asking this question here because for some reason, it was removed from
ITCareerQuestions ?
Anyways, I just passed my CompTIA A+ core 2 exam, and ironically, just got my first job offer a week ago. So in a week, I start my new job as an IT Technician, I am still finishing college and have maybe 4 months to go, but with the full time position, I may end up cutting down to part time classes.
I am aware that CompTIA offers the Network+ as a follow up to the A+. However, considering that the network+ automatically renews the A+, I figure that I have about 3 years to get my Network+, and honestly, that seems like the best option, since I will have some professional experience by then, which CompTIA recommends anyway. And for the sake of efficiency, it makes sense to wait till as close to the A+ expiration date, then doing the same with the Network+ with the Security+ so that you end up with 9 years without having to retake the same exam to re-certify.
I may be thinking too deep into this, but indulge me for a minute. So considering I take 6-8 months to prepare for the Network+ exam 2 years and 4 months from now, and hypothetically I try to take on as much college as I can to finish as soon as possible, and finish within the next 8 months, that still leaves a year and 8 months that aren't being utilized here. We can't have that, so assuming I keep up the grind, what certification(s) outside of CompTIA would be good to get (preferably still entry level). I would like to throw, possibly two more certifications on my resume before my A+ expires and can renew it with the Network+. So end goal here is to have 4 certifications and a degree, 3 years from today.
But what certs would honestly help me the most or look the best on a resume from a recruiter's perspective?

2024.05.14 07:45 eatratshitt I’m struggling to figure out where I fit in on the levels scale
disclaimer before I get to the actual post: I’m not self diagnosed (fully support self diagnosis tho) but my country doesn’t use the level system I’m 20F diagnosed at the age of 17. I know I’m pretty good at masking, people who don’t really know how autism usually presents in afab people can tell that there’s something a little off about me and treat me differently but I don’t think it’s enough to the level 2 point? I was completely unable to say even a word to strangers when I was a kid but ig it was just brushed off as being shy. At school I never really talked to anyone and really struggled to understand how the hell do I make friends. It just felt like everyone was in on some big secret to how to socialize and I had no idea what it was. I only started making some friends at the age of 14 when I found other neurodivergent and mentally ill people but even then I always felt like an outsider. I also don’t know if my support needs are level 1 or 2. As a kid and young teen I wasn’t able to keep up with school or daily tasks like cleaning, showering on brushing my teeth. I don’t know why, I just couldnt ever get myself to do it and I didn’t really have a parent to help me with that stuff. I’d spend the whole time playing video games that brought me comfort. Mind you I did live in a pretty abusive household so that also for sure impacted my ability to function. As soon as I turned 18 I dropped out of school and got a job. The dropped out part was a good decision but the job destroyed me mentally. After just the first week I was so overwhelmed and dysregulated I attempted and ended up in a hospital. I went back to work after 2 weeks tho and managed to keep working by abusing alcohol until 3 months later I was so exhausted I ODed again (not as badly tho) to have an excuse not to go to work. I quit the job right after that and was unable to function for the next 3 months after which I gave in to my parents, societal and financial pressure and got another job that I lasted 9 months in. It was a little easier as I made sure I worked only 2-3 shifts a week but eventually once again I slipped into alcohol and my brain and body just stopped functioning properly. My tourette’s also got worse to a point of it making it even harder for me to work as my wrists would lock in one position. It’s been 8 months since then and I’ve slowly realized that I am disabled and I will never be able to live alone. I wouldn’t be able to get groceries, clean, throw the trash out regularly, work enough to afford to live and just do any other adult thing. But then again I know level 2 requires more communication issues? I’m just very confused and bothered by the inability to fit myself into one or another label

2024.05.14 07:37 Latrodectus1000 Any advice or help in what to do if you were in my place?
Long story short, a girl who I know from my major who also used to take the bus with me had graduated a year ago, at that time I had went my way and bought her graduation gifts and a congratulations card, a year later she had not even texted me "congratulations" on my graduation last week, although she had went to the graduation party and knows that I've graduated there.
Here is the thing, me, her and her friend who is now my ex-friend used to take the same bus and are in the same major, but since me and my ex-friend and a couple other people had to work in a graduation project she had showed me her true colors, in short she is nothing but a snake, a bully, a backstabber, and I am pretty sure that she had been feeding her lies and other stuff about me. guy to the point where I would be walking through a room's door and she would be opening the door to "us", & when I had said "thank you" to her she ignored me, meanwhile when the guy behind me who is one of the guys who used to work in the graduation project with us had passed by and thanked her, she said "your welcome" to him.
I am hurt, I am broken, the group that I've worked with for the graduation project have hurt me, bullied me, etc I need therapy becuase of them. I could write over 1000 pages about everything they've done to me during the past 9 months, specially this semester, I don't know what to do, I've already graduated, I feel like shit, I keep dissociating, I am afraid of facing real life, I just wish I can go back in time and re-live my last semester in uni, it was the WORST semester ever, the constant bullying, humiliation, and the INFINTE AMOUNT OF RACISMA that I've faced was and still unbearable, I wish I could have the chance to go back and enjoy my last semester in uni, I am stuck in this phase of depression, I can't accept the fact that I am no longer an undergraduate, that time is flying by me, I regret being vulnerable and opening up to my ex-friend, I regret befriending her, I wish when she had approached me in class 2 years ago that I've kept it casual, maybe now she would have just been a "classmate", I hate being in this position.
I am afraid of befriending people now, not a single person from my uni had contacted me after graduating, It was literally me sending a congrats text to 5 people, 3 of them had replied, and the 3ed one keeps dragging replying to me for days, and the other 2 literally ignored the texts. I feel so lonely, so alone, I don't even have high-school friend, childhood friends, etc.

The last poll conducted on October 28th had Smith leading by 1 point, and Kennedy far behind both major candidates. Some have already begun to blame the Liberal Party and Kennedy for stealing moderate voters from another Republican victory. First 100 Days Revenue Act of 1965 The Revenue Act of 1965 would take a more progressive approach to taxation, increasing income taxes up to 7% in the highest tax bracket; all while lowering income taxes down by 4% for lower income households. The Act would also increase the Social Security Tax to 8%. House voted 228-207 Senate voted 52-48 Mass Transit Tax Act of 1965 The second Mass Transit Tax Act would lower short range rail and air transport by an average of 5%, while increasing long range rail and air transport by an average of 2%. International flight tickets would be increased as well, by an average of 6%. House voted 236-199 Senate voted 62-38 Minimum Wage Act of 1965 The long-standing federal Minimum Wage of $0.80/hour has been around since 1949, with no increase on the federal side of things. President Jackson and other Laborites were able to pull their weight and increase the federally-mandated minimum wage to $1.30/hour. Although the Labor Party advocated for a higher hourly wage, others in Congress feared a wage any higher would result in another economic panic following the near-collapse of the National Debt Ceiling a few years prior. House voted 227-208 Senate voted 52-48 Department of Health Foundation Act of 1965 Founded the Department of Health and Welfare to help administer and regulate various healthcare practices and the distribution of Social Security, medical tax breaks, and more. Though indirectly, Congress soon changes the Executive budget to cut the Department of the Interior's funding by 40%; most of that money going into the new Department of Health and Welfare. House voted 249-186 Senate voted 64-36 National Environmental and Water Policy Act of 1965 (NEWPA) Championed heavily by the President and young members of the Labor Party in Congress like Edmund Muskie, NEWPA places greater regulations and laws into place regarding water safety and treatment, water pollution, trash allocation, dump sites, and recycling; unseen since the progressive era of the early 1900s. These regulations are expected to greatly improve the environmental state of decay for decades to come. House voted 221-214 Senate voted 54-46 Death of former President, Theodore F. Green: May 19, 1966 This morning, former President Theodore Francis Green passed away in his Rhode Island home at the age of 98, marking the oldest President at the time of his death. Green was a member of the Democratic Party and briefly the Anti-Fascist Alliance, taking charge from his previous position as Secretary of State after the sudden assassinations of sitting President Earl Browder and Vice President Upton Sinclair. President Green helped uncover the “Business Plot” orchestrated in part by J.P. Morgan Jr. and Prescott Sheldon Bush Sr, the latter being the father of sitting Texas Congressman George Bush. President Theodore F. Green led us through the horrors of the second world war after the sudden attack on Pearl Harbor, resigning his post and organizing a special election the year following the conclusion of the war itself. He was instrumental in the foundation of the United Nations and eventual foundation of both NATO and EATO two Presidents later. He was, and still remains a national hero in our hearts. President Henry Jackson, among former Presidents and dignitaries are expected to show up for his public funeral in Providence, Rhode Island. The public has been allowed to pay their respects at his grave site before his proper burial et to take place from May 19 at 9:00 AM to May 20 at 9:00 AM. Foreign Policy Ventures prior to the 1966 Midterms Embargo Act of 1965 Supported already by the majority of the country, Scoop Jackson directed Congress to pass a full embargo of all raw and manufactured Cuban goods on entering the United States through any port or checkpoint. House voted 313-122 Senate voted 76-24 With the law being signed by the President in August that year, he would make a speech in Miami celebrating the passage of the act, glorifying its protections of American, anti-communist goods. Scoop would face some backlash over his anti-communist posturing, as the Labor Party has a small (but noticeable) sect of Communists in their ranks. The Saigon Summit In July of 1965, after riots against the French government in Saigon, and the breakout of a guerrilla war in French Cambodia, a summit was called in Saigon to determine the future of the city. President Jackson, President Ho Chi Minh, and President Charles de Gaulle met within the French administrative building to discuss the recent riots in the city and future between Saigon and Vietnam. Although much of Vietnam was granted total independence from French rule in 1950, French Saigon remained a thorn in Vietnam's side. France wished to keep as much of its dying empire as possible, and no one would fight harder at that than Charles de Gaulle himself. President Jackson wished to keep the peace and eventually coerce Vietnam into rejoining EATO. Talks were messy at times, as yelling could be heard from the chambers the talks were being held in, but the three would come to an agreement. Saigon would be administered by a joint Vietnamese-French government, and policing and law would gradually transition to local and Vietnamese systems. In return, Vietnam would promise to not get itself involved in the Cambodian guerilla war. 1966 Midterms House Results https://preview.redd.it/ntikw0octb0d1.png?width=901&format=png&auto=webp&s=942f182fe781579a9b8ddb47885e93f8223d35a4 7 Third Party/Independents - Speedy Long (Louisiana Independent)

Invasion of Saigon In December 1966, a clash between Vietnamese and French police during a riot led the Vietnamese side of the Saigon Transitional Government to call on Vietnamese military aid. Within hours, the Republic of Vietnam marched into the jointly occupied city. Rumors immediately began amassing that the Saigon police force worked with the Vietnamese government in order to cease Saigon before the transitional period was up. Although these rumors were just that, President Jackson was surely worried when the news hit him the next morning; alongside the French Ambassador asking for an audience with the President. French Ambassador Hervé Alphand would share with Scoop three things: - France intends to treat the invasion of Saigon as an act of war.
- France is already mobilizing troops to southern Cambodia for a naval invasion of Vietnam.
- France intends to call on the force of NATO and EATO to defend “France in her hour of need.”
No matter how Jackson tried to argue, Alphand was keen on these points. Jackson would argue that the incident be investigated by the United Nations to determine whether it was an act of war; while Alphand threatened that American delay on the issue could lead to French withdrawal from both NATO and EATO. Jackson, reportedly furious, refused to be threatened by a “dying empire”. He denied meeting with any French foreign dignitary for the time being until they promised to allow the UN for an investigation. The French response was quick, with France officially leaving both NATO and EATO on December 18, 1966. The French declaration of war and further campaign into Vietnam began on the 20th. With naval and air landings concentrated around Rach Gia, Can Tho, My Tho, Saigon, and Vung Tau, the Second Indochina War began. Although Australia would provide weapon assistance, the other nations within both NATO and EATO held their breath on what to do. France had left the two most powerful military and economic alliances in the world, and President Jackson could not be more angry. Glasgow Conference of 1967 With the war having gone on for nearly three months, and French military forces having begun to get bogged down by the Vietnamese harsh tactics; Can Tho remained the only major French-held territory in the young Republic. And although Vietnamese war tactics were questionable at best; much of the world was united in believing the French declaration of war was not entirely justifiable; with President Scoop Jackson and General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev at the forefront of organizing peace efforts within and without the UN. Although the United Nations have begun investigations into both the Vietnamese invasion of Saigon and the French declaration of war, they both had gotten bogged down by the surrounding war effort. It was agreed upon by several major powers to meet in Glasgow with French and Vietnamese delegates to discuss an armistice. The United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, and the People’s Republic of China agreed to enforce the following terms: - Saigon and surrounding territories that formerly made up the French Vietnam Territory following the 1950 Treaty of Manila shall be ceded to the Republic of Vietnam. Saigon and the surrounding territories shall become a United Nations sponsored demilitarized zone until an official peace treaty between the 5th Republic of France and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
- French military and bureaucratic personnel shall be allowed free and safe passage out of the cities of Can Tho and Saigon; sanctioned by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force. The French and Vietnamese governments must release all prisoners of war; sanctioned by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force.
- Saigon officials implicated in the initial invasion of the city on December 16, 1966 must release all official, personal, and private documents to the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs for investigation.
- Vietnam must retain its promise from the 1964 Saigon Summit to not aid or abet Cambodian guerilla forces or rebels.
- All combat between the 5th Republic of France and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam shall cease and abide by the above rules, the United Nations, and Geneva Conventions.
Although both nations had much to say and change in their favor, the above is the final version of the armistice agreed upon by all parties. The armistice paper was signed by: - President Henry Martin Jackson of the United States
- General Secretary Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev of the Soviet Union
- Prime Minister James Harold Wilson, Baron Wilson of Rievaulx of the United Kingdom
- Chairman Mao Zedong of the People's Republic of China
- Foreign Minister Ernest Charles Lucet of the 5th French Republic
- Foreign Minister Nguyên Duy Trinh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
Military Aftermath of the Second Indochina War: - 57,000 KIA (66% Vietnamese)
- 12,000 MIA (81% French)
- 72,000 WIA (52% French)
- 134,000 Civilians KIA/MIA (89% Vietnamese)
Although the Glasgow Conference was seen as a great triumph of diplomacy between the major powers, Taiwan (the Republic of China) was greatly hindered in its geopolitical influence for the time being. President Jackson had recognized the People’s Republic of China the week prior to the Conference; Communist China would replace Taiwan's spot as a permanent member of the UN Security Council within the month. The Better Society Plan Plans drawn up between Pro Tempore Lyndon Johnson, Representative Claude Pepper, and Speaker Adam Powell Jr. would be taken to the President's desk following the first relatively calm year in the administration's history. Although much of the work on marketing the plan would be placed on Scoop himself; Johnson, Pepper, and Powell would act as the main sponsors of each piece in Congress. What would become the beginnings of the “Better Society Plan” would officially pass both houses of Congress throughout mid 1968. Cheap Food and Housing Act of 1968 A large bill authored primarily by Speaker Adam Powell Jr. and Secretary Hubert Humphrey; the Cheap Food and Housing Act would cover extensive social programs. Although, with weak support in Congress, many Republicans were able to push to soften these programs and add their own agendas on top of them. The final contents of this massive bill were as follows: - A federal Food Stamps program would begin and be administered and funded by the Department of Health and Welfare. Certain imported foodstuffs would receive a 15% higher tariff. All American citizens that either fall below or are less than 6% above the poverty line would be eligible for the Food Stamps program.
- Store-bought meat products will receive price controls to fit the monthly income of the average family. The Federal Government will cut 60% funds toward GMO Agriculture, Meat, Fish, and Poultry research.
- Houses that take up less than a certain area size will be price capped based county-by-county income. This job is in the hands of State Governments. (Apartments are not covered in this)
- Housing discrimination shall be made illegal based on identity.
House voted 241-194 Senate voted 53-47 Medical Bill Reduction Act of 1968 This bill was authored by Representative Claude Pepper and Secretary John Gardner in order to fundamentally reduce medical expenses for the youth, elderly, and medically unable. The bill however was weakened significantly by the Republicans in Congress, only allowing for those receiving Social Security benefits to have reduced medical expenses paid for partially by the Department of Health and Welfare; no matter if the recipient is signed on with private insurance or the Public Option. House voted 220-215 Senate voted 53-47 Apollo 8: Americans on the Moon in November 1968! Thanks to streamlined efforts by Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Margaret Smith the past 11 years, NASA and furthermore America were able to place the first men on the moon on November 12, 1967. In a speech made on national television that night in the hour following the conclusion of the live coverage of the moon landing, Scoop Jackson would put much of his thanks on the “Greatest mind our nation has ever had,” referring to Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer, since 1961, has been placed in a secondary charge of the Apollo missions and a potential moon landing until his resignation in January 1967 and death the following month. Dr. Oppenheimer's expertise in theory and former President Smith's dedication for space exploration are likely candidates as to the victory America achieved that night. State of Asia in 1968 https://preview.redd.it/yt26bkb6ub0d1.png?width=595&format=png&auto=webp&s=4f8891be4a444d56ea6f7c252ded667383234fdd The United Nations has concluded their investigation into the potential legality and coercion in the events leading up to the invasion of Saigon. “While France has made compelling arguments for the contrary, regarding available documents and other pieces of evidence, the Vietnamese military occupation of Saigon was not a result of coercion, manipulation, embezzlement, bribery, or corruption within the Republic of Vietnam. The invitation of Vietnamese armed forces into the territory limits was done by the legal Vietnamese co-government of said territory, and therefore, is deemed a semi-legal occupation of the city. The United Nations upholds the results of the Glasgow Conference.” Gearing up for Reelection: A look at Potential Challengers Notable Republicans that have declared candidacy Former Vice President, Richard Nixon https://preview.redd.it/s64vumfxub0d1.jpg?width=3739&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1bff3f91005f9ed3559abb1334db75eac181ae75 Richard Nixon is back at it with his 4th attempt at a Presidential run, and if he wins the nomination or is selected as a running mate, 3rd attempt on a Presidential ticket. He is generally a moderate, but is definitely the wildcard. Despite his past of losing elections, he is somehow the safest, and perhaps most dangerous, to the Jackson administration. Governor Ronald Reagan https://preview.redd.it/bjb887w4vb0d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cdd34a9a2caf74d4b7b2a18233bc141bc975e20 The Governor of California has perhaps one of the most charismatic voices in the nation, and is definitely a threat should he receive the Republican nomination. While he is charismatic, he is also the most Conservative of the major players for the Republican nomination. Reagan has instituted a mix of conservative and liberal policy as Governor of California, but has spouted rhetoric like all the former dixiecrats; just without blatant racism. Scoop believes Reagan is not only a credible threat to his Presidency, but also a threat to minority groups nationwide. “Draft Jack Kennedy” and “Draft Bobby Kennedy” https://preview.redd.it/s601w5x9vb0d1.jpg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b99970534ba3ec17d1e7147231d0b5b45ad22e3 Despite neither Kennedy having decided to throw their hat in the ring this year, 1960 and 1964 Presidential candidate John Kennedy has received some support among anti-nixon moderates for the head of the ticket later this year. He has an air of charisma around him, much like his fellow Republican Ronald Reagan, but Kennedy has only commented on the matter stating he is “far too tired” for 3 Presidential runs in a row. The Senator's health is seemingly beginning to fail, as well. Despite the unlikeliness of the matter, Jackson is prepared to deal with Jack Kennedy again if he wins a draft. Opposed to his older brother, Governor Robert Kennedy has remained Non-Partisan since the fall of the Liberal Party 3 years prior. Bobby has had moderate support from both parties since the beginning of his governorship in 1963. Despite this, and probably with wishes to go against one of his brothers, Bobby Kennedy has denied to run or entertain a draft movement in his name. Scoop has declared Bobby to be of little threat. Other potential challengers Senator Russel Long https://preview.redd.it/vazyz7xevb0d1.jpg?width=223&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4693e838065dc8a3f31cf21f5d3cb8bece24dfc6 The long-serving Senator and son of former President Huey Long has walked the line of conservative, liberal, and progressive support throughout his career. In recent years, he has become more supportive of progressive social policies, and definitely leans economically toward Labor; but his reach across rural southerners matches a more populist approach. Long has already declared his independent candidacy for President. If Nixon isn't one, Long is certainly the most dangerous wildcard if he plays his hand right. Scoop will closely watch him. 2024.05.14 07:27 Latrodectus1000 What to do in this case if you were in my place?

2024.05.14 07:19 EJC28 Buccaneers 2024 Draft Analysis Compilation
Round 1, Pick 26 - Graham Barton, C, Duke: NFL: The Buccaneers fortify the offensive line with an experienced player who offers position flexibility. His elite presence on the interior should help elevate the run game and keep Baker Mayfield upright.
CBS Sports: A. This is a great pick. They have major issues at center and a question at left guard and he can play both. I love this pick. Barton will move inside from tackle, but he can play there in a pinch too.
ESPN: The Bucs got their top pick of an interior offensive lineman in Barton, who can immediately step in to fill the void left by center Ryan Jensen's retirement. While all but four of Barton's offensive snaps over the last three seasons have come at left tackle -- where he allowed just one sack in 2023 and two in 2022 -- he played 446 snaps at center as a freshman, which is his most natural fit and what caught the Bucs' eye. He plays with a great base, a good anchor and a "nasty temperament" that the Bucs' front office covets.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Likes his coffee hot and water cold which is actually reasonable.
Round 2, Pick 57 - Chris Braswell, DE, Alabama: NFL: It's not often that a player with two college starts lands inside the top 60 picks, but Braswell did emerge last season as a jack of all trades for the Crimson Tide. At the very least, he could be a terrific special-teamer, but the Bucs likely hope to develop Braswell's pass-rush arsenal and squeeze even more out of his terrific athletic profile.
CBS Sports: A+. Had early RD2 grade on this outside rusher. Length, methodical pass-rush moves, deceptive power. Very productive generating pressure at Alabama. Sets a sturdy edge. A need in the post Shaq Barrett era.
ESPN: While the Bucs did sign Randy Gregory in free agency, he'll likely wind up being more of a rotational player opposite second-year edge YaYa Diaby. What they've needed is a replacement for Shaquil Barrett, who departed for the Miami Dolphins in free agency. Braswell's three forced fumbles in 2023 were tied for the most in the SEC, while his 42 pressures were the third most in the SEC. His eight sacks were tied for the fifth most in the SEC after having 2.5 sacks from 2020 to 2022. He also had 53 coverage snaps in 2023, which Todd Bowles does ask of his edge rushers. Braswell played 41 games with Crimson Tide but only made two starts, both of which came last season.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: He only likes the yellow part of the gummy worm.
Round 3, Pick 89 - Tykee Smith, S, Georgia: NFL: Smith has a Mike Edwards-like projection, so it's easy to see why the Bucs took Smith here, in the same range they drafted Edwards in 2019. Although Smith is undersized and not an elite athlete, he has the nose for the ball and enough special-teams value to be a contributor in Year 1.
CBS Sports: B-. Slot defender / safety hybrid closer to slot CB size but doesn’t have those quicks. Surprisingly powerful hitter at his size and plays with a lot of conviction when tracking the football. Super-smart in coverage. Reads QB’s in a flash which helps him play faster than his timed speed.
ESPN: The Bucs see Smith as a nickel, and he played 80% of snaps in the slot with Bowles keeping a close watch on the UGA program, where his son, Troy, plays. They started undrafted free agent rookie Christian Izien last year and signed Tavierre Thomas in free agency, but their secondary as a whole needs more takeaways, which is where Smith comes in. His four interceptions in 2023 were tied for the third most in the SEC. He was also one of three FBS players with four or more interceptions and two or more sacks in 2023 alongside Michigan's Mike Sainristil and UNLV's Cameron Oliver.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Ribs. This man loves ribs. Cannot get enough ribs!
Round 3, Pick 92 - Jalen McMillan, WR, Washington: NFL: A smooth-moving slot or outside receiver, McMillan returned from injury to help the Huskies make it all the way to the national title game. He has big mitts, good hands and more juice than he's sometimes given credit for. This is a really nice weapon to add to the Bucs' WR room.
CBS Sports: B+. Crafty, complete wideout with a trademark trait. Runs quality routes. Adequate separation. Not a burner. Not slow. Tracks it with good concentrations. Not a huge YAC type nor someone who thrives when leaping for the football in traffic. Robert Woods type with a bit more juice.
ESPN: The Bucs declined No. 3 wide receiver Russell Gage's option this year, and he was released. Mike Evans will also be 31 and Chris Godwin enters the third and final year of his contract, worth $20 million per year. McMillan can line up inside or outside but 33 of his 45 receptions came out of the slot in 2023, and he caught six passes out of the backfield. He's also a master of the post route. His six touchdown catches on post routes since 2022 are tied for the most in the FBS, while his 253 receiving yards on post route concepts since 2022 are the 10th most in the FBS.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Still willing to try and get the band back together.
Round 4, Pick 125 - Bucky Irving, RB, Oregon: NFL: Bucky to the Bucs keeps the run on Ducks going. He's not terribly fast but can get up to max speed quickly and might end up as a decent complement to Rachaad White, even if they do similar things well.
CBS Sports: A. Bad testing figures - - despite reasonable speed - - but one of the most elusive, hard-to-corral RBs over the last few drafts. Smaller stature. Decent contact balance too. Weapon in the receiving game, and of course, out in space. Fun addition.
ESPN: The Bucs have had the league's worst rushing attack over the last two seasons (82.9 yards per game) and wanted to bolster competition. Irving is 5-9 and 192 pounds and ran a 4.55 40-yard dash at the NFL combine -- 14th among 20 running backs. While his testing was not great, the tape shows production. He topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his two seasons at Oregon, including 1,180 with 11 touchdowns in 2023. He broke or evaded an FBS-high 144 tackles since 2022, and he had 896 rushing yards between the tackles in 2023, averaging 7.1 yards per rush. His 56 receptions last season led all FBS running backs.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: He once ate an 8 layer peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Round 6, Pick 220 - Elijah Klein, OG, UTEP: NFL: With 55 college starts and good length, Klein has a chance to make it in Tampa. He's stiff and might be an inside-only blocker, however.
CBS Sports: C. Smooth operator at guard. Quality run-blocking abilities. Opens the gate too soon in pass pro and not ultra experienced there. Not many true sets in college.
ESPN: The Bucs didn't re-sign Matt Feiler or Aaron Stinnie, who both started at left guard last season. Along with Cody Mauch, they finished with a combined 70.2% run blocking win rate among guards -- 16th in the league last year. None of them finished in the top 50 in pass block win rate either. The Bucs did sign free agent Sua Opeta from the Philadelphia Eagles, and Klein will compete with those two. Klein allowed 1.3% pressures at UTEP and in 45 games, he allowed four sacks with a 1.6% blown run block rate. In 2023, he allowed one sack all season.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Always wondered how Raymans hands worked if he doesn’t have arms.
Round 7, Pick 246 - Devin Culp, TE, Washington: NFL: Culp shocked a few people when he ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, but his 230-pound frame figures to limit his role quite a bit. Even so, Culp improved each college season and has some unrealized potential as an H-back.
CBS Sports: B+. Smaller, speedster H-back TE type. Was very underutilized at Washington but flashed when given the opportunity. Made some impressive snags in traffic. Not much YAC-wise but can run away from second-level defenders if given space.
ESPN: The Bucs' 502 combined yards from tight ends last year was third worst, and they needed to bolster competition at the position. At 6-3 and 231 pounds, Culp ran a 4.47s 40-yard dash at the scouting combine, which was the fastest among tight ends this year. But he'll need to improve as an in-line blocker, which is where his size is a concern. He's also had some drops with six (8.8% drop rate) in 28 games.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Has soft hands… both ON and OFF the field.
