2023.07.15 17:50 dddduckyyyy [TOMT] [SOFTWARE] [mid-to-late 2000s] downloadable software for children that housed flash games, some of which were educational (specifically a game about tuberculosis??) and some were just fun (like fancy pants adventures)

Those are the only two games I specifically remember but I know there were many games housed on this. It wasn't online, it was specifically downloaded to the family computer (probably as a way to keep kids from wandering around the internet unsupervised and finding inappropriate games). The layout was pretty minimal, I think it was just a white background with each game as its own square thumbnail arranged in a neat grid. It was NOT funbrain arcade, that much I do know!

2022.11.28 04:51 turtlenerdle a mid-2000s children's website that focused on educational / puzzle games and you could earn in game currency to be mailed real prizes

So this website I have never seen in any of those "nostalgic 2000s games!" lists, nor have I ever heard another person talk about it. I cannot remember the name but I want to say it had something to do with "brains" or had a theme involving knowledge or something. No, not funbrain lol. I want to say this was marketed towards older kids ages 8-12, and I can't exactly remember what age i was when I played, but for reference I was born in 1996!
There were several games in the site that you could play to earn prizes, arcade type games, puzzle games, and trivia games. I can't remember whether there was any sort of chatting function but I do believe you could compete against other real players.
The specific game remember most was a platformer type where you're in like underground tunnels fighting monsters maybe? And the trivia area had "heads in tubes" that you click on? A real sci-fi vibe.
Now here's the thing that makes me know I'm not imagining this: I earned 2 actual prizes from this site, and my parents had to give their permission and put in our address to get them mailed to me. It was an Odie plushie and a Garfield comic book. (yeah I think most of the prizes were Garfield themed, but not all?)
If someone could help me remember the name of this site I'd be so happy! It's bugged me for years.

2022.09.07 03:12 ghosttricked [PC] [Early 2000's] Old Web-Based Educational Games?

When I was young, I was homeschooled for a few years. I remember using a platform called Time4Learning.com. This website is still around, but as years have gone by it has definitely changed.
Time4Learning is a paid subscription to all the educational materials. It has lots of lesson plans and homework assignments automatically in the site, so long as you're paying for it. But aside from the education, it also had an arcade. If you did enough lessons, you could earn a quick trip to the arcade. If you remember the Funbrain Arcade, it's a little like that. The games all are educational based, but they were fun to me back then anyway. I played the same ones over and over because I liked them so much. And some of those games are what I want to ask about.
The first game I have in mind has to do with animal science.
Platform(s): PC/Web
Genre: Point and click? Puzzle?
Estimated year of release: 2001?
Graphics/art style: Because the game takes place at night, it's a bit hard to see the graphics because of the darkness. However, when the animals are found, they are brought in the view of the player's flashlight.
Notable characters: A group of children out camping at night. Also has a bunch of animals.
Notable gameplay mechanics: The game begins with a group of kids camping at night. All of a sudden, they hear a sound that is unusual. Scared, they bring out a flashlight and look around. So now the gameplay begins: your mouse cursor is a flashlight. Move the mouse around to find animals in the night. Once the kids see what's making the weird noises, they aren't so scared anymore, and the game ends.
Other details: One of the animals is an owl. I vaguely remember some skittering insects. I think the game had a link to an animal science website at the very end, but I might be wrong about that.

The second game I have in mind is about English, writing, and words.
Platform(s): PC/Web
Genre: Puzzle, Quiz, Rougelike(?)
Estimated year of release: 2005?
Graphics/art style: Very cartoonish, bright colors. The game takes place in a wizard's tower with unique monsters and magic.
Notable characters: The Wizard, whom you play as. You explore a dungeon and look for keys to open doors with and escape the tower. You also need to answer the monster's questions to go through more doors.
Notable gameplay mechanics: As I mentioned before, you explore a magical tower and answer English questions to escape. I call it a Rougelike because of this aspect of the gameplay, and it reminds me of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or a 2D Zelda game, just without the enemies or upgrades. Since the game is focused on exploration, it's more of a maze.
This game also had audio for the monsters. Each monster's voice lines had to do with their question, usually just reading it aloud as well as the answers.
One specific voiced line/question that I remember very well: The wise old owl sat in an oak. The more he heard, the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard. Why can't we all be like this wise old bird?
I believe the question is asking 'What kind of writing is this?' and the answer is something like 'a Poem'. But I don't remember the question; literally just the poem audio. I also believe that one of the questions asked 'what is Onomatopoeia?' but I also don't know if this is real.
Other details: This was one of my favorite games because it was so gamified, and because it was so visually unique. I believe that a different company made it than the company that hosts Time4Learning, however, I don't really know who that could be.
------
I don't know if any of this is enough information to get answers, but I just wanted to type all of this information somewhere anyways. Because the source is a subscription service, I don't expect anybody to pay real money to try and figure out if these games still exist. But either way, I just wanted to post and get it off my mind.
Here's a link about the Time4Learning Playground, the only source I have so far: https://www.time4learning.com/playground.htm
Here's a quote straight from this site: "The Time4Learning Playground relies on a suite of licensed games as well as a white list of great online sites and activities like PBS Kids, BBC Interactive, Sesame Street, Pauly’s Playhouse, VeggieTales, and Starfall." I believe that if some of the games I played are on other websites as well, hopefully, I can find them again. So that's another reason why I'm posting all this, just to put all I can remember in one spot.
Thanks for reading and good luck!

2022.02.09 20:52 aagupte [Computer][2009] What was that game we used to play in school called again?

I'm completely forgetting what it's called now but you used to have a board that you would go through and play mini games with. Each of the games were actually really fun, and there was also a math zone and a fun zone where you could play games. I thought it was something like funbrain, but that definitely wasn't the site. Key info was that there was an arcade section with the more fun games, then a math section with the games that incorporated math problems and stuff like that. What was it called???

2020.11.15 17:19 dpmaniac667 Funbrain Arcade: The Unfinished Second Half

When I was growing up, there was a website called funbrain that we used to play in school. It featured something called the Funbrain Arcade, which had a variety of games, and the layout was designed like a board game. Once you get to the halfway point, there's a game called "Croc Hopper," and a picture of a turtle that reads "coming soon." And it was never finished. The entire second half of the arcade remains lost media. I've always wondered what happened. Why was it never finished? Are any of the games from the 2nd half out there somewhere? Any answers would be appreciated.

2020.10.09 15:41 lucysallydavid [Online/Flash] [2000s] Educational Games

I have this memory of everyone being allowed to play on this specific game website after we did all our work in computer lab during 3rd or 4th grade. You would go to the website and there were a bunch of different games you could play, I think there were arcade machines on the homescreen. You had to beat one to move on to the next. The games were kind of considered educational. I wish I had more info I just remember that was all anyone wanted to play during class. The name funbrain kind of sounds familiar but I couldn’t find anything on their site.

2020.03.15 12:22 GilgameshIII PC/Kids/Point and click/ Pirate/maybe 2013/colorful art style/educational

Hey guys, when I was in third grade(Around 2012 or 2013)I found a website with lots of good games on it and I used to play on it with my brother. I vividly remember there being 2 or 3 games that were point and click and they were about collecting clues to catch a bandit. In the third game he escapes to the future or something and you have to find him in the future. I remember there being another game where you were you could be part of a pirate crew and you were going on a treasure hunt, but you didn't want to get caught by a monster who could sink your boat. It played kind of like an online board game, I rember having to roll dice by clicking on it for that game. The 2 games had similar art styles, and the whole website was filled with these original games by the same company as these one's. The colors were vibrant and the character were cartoony I also sort of remember a monkey being an important character and that the website was canadian and that the games were educational, but my mind could just be playing tricks on me. I feel like I remember finding it as a result of going on funbrain arcade. I really want to play this game with my little sister and have her enjoy these games the same way I did. Could you guys help me out and find out the name if this website?

2019.12.23 21:34 megap7191 Desperately ISO this game!!! Any help would be appreciated.

I keep finding additional information and I just add it to the post. In my search I have found that this may be a Funbrain-esque game. I have seen the captures of the website and the crocodile and the warthog thing look familiar. I believe this may possibly be an earlier version of FunBrain but I am not sure and I cannot find any corroborating information.

This game! It has been bothering me for months and no one I’ve talked to seems to have any idea of what this is.

TOMT][game][Late 90's-Early 2000s]

Copied from u/bee1294 's original post.

"Sorry, but I don't remember all that much beside loving the crap out of this game in elementary school (USA). I am 21 years old, so this was in the range of 1999-2005. I'm fairly certain that it was a flash-type game on a kid-friendly website but i guess it's possible for that to have been on disc or something. Ever since rediscovering The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis here and reminding me of this other game game, it's been driving me crazy. I'd appreciate any help I could get on this.

I remember playing as some sort of humanoid fox character and you started inside one arcade machine. You had to beat the game to unlock more arcade games, which had literal chains/locks on them, I believe. One of the levels/arcades involved swinging from a vine? It may not have been educational but I definitely played it in school.

I got nothing from google, but I know that that doesn't mean someone else couldn't do a better search. I'm mostly coming up with Spy Fox which looks familiar as well. So I may be confusing things but I'm trying to focus more on the arcade machine thing rather than the fox thing in my searches. Thanks in advance for trying!"

I also remember playing this game online in school but I cannot remember what it is for the life of me. I do remember that another level had you using the aforementioned ropes to get across a swamp filled with alligators/crocodiles. Another game had you keeping bubbles up with your mouse and it also took into account how fast you moved it. The main character was an orange human like fox thing that had an odd head. Please help me settle this once and for all! :)

2019.11.03 19:40 HombeDeFlorida Early 2000s elementary school compute lab

Early 2000s elementary school compute lab
It’s a new school year. You use your 5-digit lunch number to log into your account in the computer lab, and it takes a few minutes for Windows XP to load the desktop. Everything was upgraded over the summer; gone are the angular beige cubes, replaced by new sleek rounded grey and black Dell monitors. They didn’t even have floppy disc drives anymore; you press a button and out pops a CD tray.

Out with the old

In with the new
You open Internet Explorer and try to on that flash game website your older sister showed you, but the school blocked it because they caught a kid playing a game where you shoot stick figures with a sniper rifle. FunBrain isn’t blocked though, so you play all the arcade games up to Mighty Guy 2. They still haven’t released Croc Hopper yet; it’s had a “Coming Soon” banner for over a year now. Your friend says there’s a code that you can type in that lets you unlock it, but they won’t tell you what it is.

Mighty Guy 3 is my generation's Half Life 3
The teacher’s coming, so you close FunBrain and log onto RiverDeep to do your daily math lesson. When you’re done, you go on BrainPop and watch some Tim and Moby cartoons.

What even are these dudes?

Flash; they don't make em like they used to
The kid sitting next to you hasn’t moved the mouse in a few minutes, so the screensaver comes on. They were hoping it was the one with the colored tubes growing everywhere, but this computer has the weird brick maze instead. They wonder aloud how long it would take to get to the end of the maze, but when they move the mouse or press a key to try and take control of the camera, the screensaver stops and they’re returned to the desktop.

I swear I saw some pipes collide once

Doom Prequel
Someone has opened Microsoft Sam and is making him say swear words on full volume. The whole class laughs, but the teacher is mad and threatens to take away everyone’s computer privileges. You’ve finished your work, so you close the internet, click the Start button, then click Accessories, them click Games, and open 3D Pinball Space Cadet. You move onto MineSweeper, but you don’t know the rules, so you just click randomly and hope you don’t hit a mine; your record is five clicks (you always start with the four corners). You don’t even know what Spider Solitaire is, so you don’t even bother opening it.

Am I the only one who thought the three bumpers up top looked like eyes?

What kinda shenanigans is this? They're all the same suit!
Life is good.

2019.05.26 09:05 jimthefish9103 Help me find an old website I used to go on as a kid please.

The website I'm looking for was a website for kids and a bit educational. I remember the website having a lot of green and had brains as it's like symbol. I think the slogan of the site was like "No two minds think alike!" Or something like that. I also remember it had links to Poptropica and the Funbrain arcade game.
Other things I remember is the game where you're a deep sea diver and the intro would be him floating to the ocean floor. Then you would Dodge sharks like frogger and I think dive deeper as you passed levels.
Another game I remember (that was one of my favorites) was the one where you're given a blank canvas in this workshop and you're suppose to make some art with the colors but the twist was you could burn it, set fire to it, pour acid on it, stuff like that I think. Then it would go into an art gallery and there would be people around it all fancy and drinking something. Then they would have some sort of reaction to the creation you just made.
Another game was one where you're an animal of some sort l think it's a monkey or a gorilla and you have to steer your way around this circular course and you're on a bike or a unicycle of some kind. I remember I being kinda hard because the controls were tricky and it took a while to get around that circular track. There was also this giant head at the top that you drove through and it's eyes followed you the entire time.
The final and last thing I remember is a game where you had to match these brains to someone's body dependent on something. Like it gave you information on the brain and the body and you had to match them.
I've tried searching for 1."Brain to body matching game" 2."No two minds think alike" 3."Educational games for kids online" 4."Painting art gallery game." 5."Deep sea diver game where you Dodge sharks." And just a bunch of other stuff with no luck. I've been trying to find it all day please help. :(

2019.05.24 00:50 Rafdamcer Web browser nostalgic game around 2010

Edit: SOLVED! Don't know how to mark it using a flair, but 100screamingfrogs discovered the name: Funbrain Arcade

Hello,
Platform: PC Web Browser game
Genre: Map with levels/stages, each was a unique minigame
Estimated year of release: 2005-2012
Graphics/art style: 2d platformer, birds eye view, etc. depending on the minigame
Notable characters: Maine character that appeared in multiple levels was a stick man (I think)
Notable Gameplay mechanics:
This game had a map with levels that were dots kind of like this map. Each level was a unique minigame (for example: one was you were a (birds eye view) caterpillar eating cars in a city, one was a frog eating flies or something, and another was flinging a sheep using a see saw or something up a mountain). Every 10 levels or so, there would be a stick man level (2d platformer, the whole level looked to be drawn with a pencil) that contributed to a story. At the end, there was some kind of shark, and the main character was on a motorcycle or something, and the game ended with "to be continued". I know this is very vague, but if anyone can find this game I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading!
