My Sizzle Season 2024 Predictions

2024.05.14 18:08 Grand_Moose2024 My Sizzle Season 2024 Predictions

I'm sure you all are probably already aware, but Sizzle Season 2024 is coming really soon for Splatoon 3. And since we're really likely to get a trailer for it this week, I figured I'd go ahead and share my predictions for things like the new kits and stages that will be released in it. I'm not sure how accurate all of these are, but let's have a look at them anyways. To start, here's what I've got for the weapons:
Second Kits:
These kit predictions were made based on qualities like what they consisted of it previous titles, as well as what sub and special weapons other kits in their respective weapon classes have not yet received. As for the Heavy Edit Splatling Nouveau, my prediction for its Nouveau branding is based on the fact that Nouveau is the creator of the vanilla Heavy Edit Splatling. My Splattercolor Screen special prediction is also based on that, as both it and vanilla Heavy Edit were made by Nouveau, and the Splattercolor Screen has yet to be included as part of a Nouveau weapon kit. A lot of people have been saying that the Recycled Brella 24 Mk I and the Douser Dualies FF will be getting second kits this coming season, but me, well, I'm not so sure about that. I can understand why they'd think that, considering the rumors that Sizzle Season 2024 will be the final major update for Splatoon 3, but the idea of two recently introduced weapons getting second kits the season right after the one they were released in just sounds kind of strange to me. But, of course, I could be wrong. We'll just have to wait and see once the season is revealed. Anyways, with that out of the way, let's move on to the possible new kits for the game.
One of the most common rumors for Sizzle Season 2024 is that a new Stringer and Splatana will be introduced in the season. Considering that they haven't received any new models since the start of the game, I guess I can see something like that. However, as far as included subs, specials, or even general themes or gimmicks go for these potential new weapons, I can't think of any possibilities, probably because I don't really use those types of weapons much in the game. Once again, we'll just have to wait and see once the trailer comes out. Anyways, I think that's enough talk about weapons. Let's move on to possible stages.
Returning Stages:
Please note that I'm only making a list of possible returning stages because I can't think of any good ideas for possible new stages and, well, if I'm being honest, I feel like Splatoon 3 has enough of those already. I'm sure a lot of you have a good idea for why Saltspray Rig is on the list. That's right, Splatoon 1's server shutdown. You'll also probably notice that Urchin Underpass, another classic Splatoon stage that's now unplayable because of the server shutdown, is not one of my stage predictions. The reason Saltspray Rig is on the list and not Urchin Underpass is because unlike the latter stage, which was included in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a battle course, the former stage hasn't had any acknowledgement since the first game. So, between those two stages, I'd say that Saltspray Rig is the more likely to return in Splatoon 3. As for Shellendorf Institute and Skipper Pavilion, those two stage predictions were made based on how locker decorations based on items found in both those stages were introduced in Drizzle Season 2023, specifically the cephalo cipher stone, orca fossil, and Great Zapfish (as well as a Shellendorf Institute-themed skateboard) for Shellendorf Institute, and the closed-mouth mudskipper and open-mouth mudskipper for Skipper Pavilion. Considering that we got locker decorations that were inspired by those two stages, it would make sense for either one of them to return in Splatoon 3. Also, something else to note is that there's no telling what the new stage distribution will be like this season for the most part, Splatoon 3 followed a pretty basic pattern for stages introduced in new seasons: one new one and one from a previous game. However, that hasn't always been the case, as in Drizzle Season 2024, both stages introduced were new ones (Crableg Capital and Shipshape Cargo Co.), and in the current Fresh Season, we only got one stage: Marlin Airport. For all we know, both stages introduced in Sizzle Season 2024 could be returning ones, or we might only get one returning one. Heck, we could even possibly get more than two stages next season. But for now, we'll just have to wait and see what the trailer has in store for us. Anywho, I think I've said enough about stages. Let's move on to my final prediction for the next season: its Big Run.
For the Big Run in Sizzle Season 2024, I'd say that the most likely stage for it to take place on would have to be Sturgeon Shipyard. I mean, for one, the stage is set in a shipyard, which seems to me like a good location for the Salmonoids to try and invade. Another reason I think this stage is likely is because of its size and different locations, which could lead to all kinds of different battle scenarios against the Salmonoids. There are other stages that could potentially host the season's Big Run, like Mahi-Mahi Resort or Shipshape Cargo Co. but out of all those possible stages, I think Sturgeon Shipyard is the most likely site for it. And that's pretty much all I have to say for this category.
And there you go. Those are all my Sizzle Season 2024 predictions. Feel free to share your thoughts on them in the comments, and you can even share your own predictions too if you want. Hopefully some time this week, we'll find out just how accurate these are.

2024.05.14 16:22 lykwydchykyn WTT/WTS: A Pedal-licious Pile of Hoopy Homestyle! Drives, Filters, Amps, and Fuzz, plug'em in and feel the love.

Spring is winding down, summer's on it's way; would love to get a little cash to fund the summer fun (and the next parts order). Still, trades are always on the table. Don't be shy with the cheapies.
TLDR
I got:
I want:
DIY STUFF
(If you are NOT into handmade stuff, scroll down because I have some other items at the end.)
This is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in Hammond boxes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power. These aren't clones for the most part, unless they are; but normally I actually monkey about with the circuits quite a bit or just test out wacky ideas. If you want something nobody else has, you're in the right place…
I have the handmades valued in 4 tiers:
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the tables below: Name, Tier, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes
Name Tier Links Notes
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 A PIC DEMO A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Space Fuzz B+ PIC DEMO This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build.
SwirlFuzz B+ PIC DEMO Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Baller Fuzz B PIC DEMO Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players B PIC Demo Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg B PIC Demo Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite C PIC Demo A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Wiff Spwinkles on Top C PIC Demo This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts
Name Tier Links Notes
Bronze Drive A PIC Demo This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B.
Copper ZenerMorph Drive B PIC Demo This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some recycled plastic.
Shining Hope Drive B PIC Demo Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin.
B is for Beast C PIC DEMO This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Green Sparkler Boost D PIC Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.
Non-Dirt
Name Tier Links Notes
Quack like a penguin B+ PIC DEMO Third build of the Chykka Wakka, a WIP all-transistor envelope filter. This one is built on vero, and features controls for Q, Range, and Attack, as well as toggles for Voicing and envelope smoothing. Housed in a smallish penguin tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Gift of Chykka Wakka B PIC DEMO First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing.
Vortex of Funk B PIC DEMO Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin.
BZZZ BOOP BEEP B PIC DEMO A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Little Amps
Name Price/Trades Links Description
Ample iMank $65 PICS DEMO This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back.
Nosy Amp $75 PICS DEMO Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends.
Fleur-de-Lis Amp $90 PICS DEMO A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless.
Non-DIY Stuff
Make an offer. I respect Reverb Price Guide values, though I may lean high if it's a feeler.
Brand Name Condition Notes
Danelectro Fab Chorus Excellent Cheap plastic chorus, but sounds great. Probably just a make-weight, too cheap to trade on its own.
Caline 10-band EQ Good Works fine, I just don't really need 10 bands of EQ. Has velcro on the back, and sometimes makes a weird noise when you turn on the pedalboard. Another make-weight.
Ibanez PH7 Good Tonelok phaser. Great pedal, has some glue on the bottom I couldn't get off, but works fine.
BOSS TU-12H Good Crusty vintage tuner from Boss. Still works great, but it's missing the outer case (still has the inner part). If you had one in the day and want to relive the magic, feel free to make an offer.
Digitech RP360 Very Good Great multifx, I've gotten some fun sounds out of it, but it isn't seeing much use. I'm just more of a discrete FX guy I guess.
MOTU MIDI express Good This is an antique MIDI patchbay and interface. It's pre-USB and uses the parallel cable (PC) or some kind of Apple-specific DIN cable (Mac). Could be used standalone, or maybe you're into retro MIDI setups? Comes with box and cables anyway.
unknown builder PedalPCB Cataclysm Very Good This is a really solid build of a PedalPCB cataclysm (Disaster Transport Jr clone) built by someone other than me. Pics here. Not sure what to value it, but make an offer.
Local (Nashville TN area) ONLY
Brand Name Condition Notes
TEAC A3340S 4-Track Reel-to-Reel Good Cleaned up, oiled up, and in good working order last time I tried it out. Meant to do some analog recording, but just haven't gotten the time or space. Would trade for a decent instrument of some kind. Might even throw in a copy of Craig Anderton's "Home Recording for Musicians", which uses the same unit.
Altec-Lansing Power amp (9442A) Fair 300 W, 2 rack-unit power amp, can work in stereo or bridged mode. Last time I used it one of the channels was a little flaky. Couldn't be bothered to fix it myself. Heavy as all get out, I'll sell for cheap if you're local.
What would I trade for??
I'm wide open to trades for music gear of all kinds and other items of value.
Some Priority Wants:
Other things I'd likely trade for:
Probably not wants (doesn't apply to C or D-tier builds, offer anything for those):
A Note about mods/repairs/custom jobs: Feel free to shoot me your ideas, but probably I'm leaning toward not doing these. Expect to pay/trade way more for something custom than what I ask for the pedals I've already built.

2024.05.14 15:51 Sansar_99 Landing Robot

Landing Robot
I have joined a Robot Contest in Japan. This contest has a different mission every year. It is my and two other members' first time joining this contest and my first time building a robot. The contest is on the 6th of October. Sorry, I used Google to translate to English.
If you know Japanese, please check the official website and rulebook.

Intro

The missions of this year's contest are "Landing" and "Recovery and Return."
  • Landing. If Robot1 sends Robot2 flying and lands in Area C, you will score points. The landing spot with the highest score is 5 meters away from Area A.
  • Recovery and Return. Collect the ball and deliver it to Robot1, then take the box and return to Area B. Robot 2 can return by itself, or it can collaborate and cooperate with Robot 1.
The contest time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

(Fig.1) The field looks like this

Robot

  • Have to make at least 2 robots.
  • Robots must be decorated with some kind of character ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
  • Safety
  • The budget is around $2500
  • It doesn't matter whether the control method is manual or automatic. In the case of manual operation, remote control is limited to radio, ultrasound, and light.

  • Size Robots must meet the following size restrictions.
    • Robot1: 1200mm x 1200mm x 1000mm height throughout the competition. This is the maximum size when all movable parts of the robot are expanded.
    • Robot2: There is no size limit. At the start, all robots must be completely within the starting zone, which is 1500mm x 1500mm. Robot 2 may be placed on top of Robot 1, but the height from the field surface must not exceed 1500mm.

  • The weight of all robots shall be within 30 kg. (Battery and air tank are included in the weight)

  • Robot 2 shall satisfy one of the following conditions.
    • Has the function of collecting and holding the ball or box.
    • Has the ability to directly deliver the ball to Area A by throwing or kicking it.
    • Has the ability to deliver boxes to Area A directly.

  • Power Supply Limitations
    • Voltage: Both drive and control system circuits must be 24V or less. Internal circuit voltages should not exceed 24V, except for transient voltages.
    • Current: Each circuit must have a current interrupting device (fuse, breaker, etc.) of 30A or less. For multiple drive system circuits, the total current interrupting capacity must not exceed 30A per robot. Control system circuit current is not included in this total. Ensure the current interrupting devices match the ratings of the entire circuit, considering wiring and breaker specifications.
  • Dangerous energy sources such as power sources other than electricity, such as high-pressure gas or explosives, must not be used.
  • Compressed air tank must be removable, with an air meter below 0.75 MPa at room temperature. Plastic bottles and homemade tanks are prohibited.

  • It is PROHIBITED to use suction or suction cups on the floor. Propeller flight, helium levitation, and hovercraft are PROHIBITED.

Contest environment

(Fig.2) Contest Field with measurements (Sorry its in japanese)
  • 7 balls approximately 200mm in diameter
    • each ball is 10 points
  • 3 boxes 200mm on all sides.
    • each box is 60 points

  • Landing spots: There are landing spots ① to ③ in a concentric circle, and ② and ③ are raised steps.
    • ③ = 100 points
    • ② = 40 points
    • ① = 10 points

  • During the contest
    • Each team has to change each other ball and box placement anywhere within the object zone [orange box in (Fig.1)]
    • However, all objects must be in contact with the field surface.
Lastly, we cannot damage the field and distract the opposing team.
Please share any ideas for the robots, we really need help. If you have any questions please ask I will try to answer them.
Thank you!

2024.05.14 15:14 c0mbucha Farming related decoration item IDEAS

So I saw the devs asked for ideas for decoration items.
Which must be pretty hard to come up with new stuff since Ft1 had so many already.
So here in this (real life) video is some awesome stuff in my opinion, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnF5Anlf8Ss
Like a fish feeder (even just cosmetic) with some effect maybe in the water (if there is fish)
Also Yurts and Container homes would be great as many people do now in Portugal and other places.
Some vegetation as decorative items? Like scrubs and even weed-type like fields, water plants, giant 4x4 old ancient trees (like olive, https://www.surinenglish.com/lifestyle/food-drink/malagas-extra-virgin-20220218092148-ntvo.html ) and GIGANTIC palm trees - maybe even 2x2 and 3x3 trees , just like more huge old wood logs and rotten tree stumps just for decoration
Chicken tractors (used to move chicken around on grass fields (great for decoration))
Some stuff from organic/regenerative farming like different soil types with mulch on it (woodchips, straw, could even be a gameplay element where players could put a new item they pick up from a compost bin over crops?).
Signs maybe even with some text elements like "Please plant " here where * is the crop icon you choose (maybe there is other text elements that would be useful like "Welcome to *your farm name), and huge 6-9 tile gates that have players farm name on them?
Worm bin (used in farming), compost, electricity poles (just for decoration), wind-farm/solar decoration, items for like a "tree-school" (like little pots with different crops/flowers/tiny plants and stacks of pots both vertically and horizontally).
Bonsai trees.
Also compost again, like giant stacks of mud/compost (maybe with flies over it and a buzzing sound)/woodchip piles just for decoration purposes
Trashcans
Wheelbarrows (always used on a farm). I think these could have so many uses even acting as a planter, which would look so cool with the player being able to put different crops in it just as with raised beds/garden containers/old truck wheels)
Also different types/variations of sprinklers maybe, like I love these giant grass fields where a sprinkler just shoots water all around, maybe this would be possible and look great on our farms even just as decoration? Plus eventually a watering effect
(even)Tall(er) grass, Wild Flower field soil type (possibly with little bonus effect for bees) or just in general different looks to the default plot (examples https://www.bostonseeds.com/products/wildflowers-seed/wildflower-seed-mixtures-20/ or just do google image search for bee field seeds)
Insect hotels https://www.urbanrevolution.com.au/products/small-insect-hotels
Raised garden beds (planters) out of wood, metal, recycled container, old truck wheels...
Ideas for trees: Cork Oak (where is an animation of harvesting the bark from the tree and the color of the wood changes)
Pomegranate bushes and trees (they can be grown in both ways) and theres dark purple, yellow, red pomegranate in general i think more bushes and berry hedges would be great as they are more convienent to farm than large trees (and you have brought a lot already in the first EA which is awesome!!). Generally i think it would be great if they often looked more unique like the Prickly Pear Cactus over just a round "bush").
Generally more unique looking fruit trees would be great (I understand its probably a lot more work)
Actually for tree ideas you might want to look at this small youtuber who goes around the world identifying rare fruit trees https://www.youtube.com/@allthefruit there is some places in the world where people just are super creative and have such an amazing variety.
Some worker tools, rubber boots on the ground (used a lot in some countries as costa rica), small 1 tile poly tunnels that connect (good for decoration next to fields), watering cans, irrigation lines, rainwater collectors (like barrels with water in them, IBC containers), garden hoes (maybe as fence type?)
(Also just having an idea for a feature maybe some day, where you could create a guided tractor tour if people click it, the tractor will keep following a certain path around the farm (kinda like the train of course, but maybe at the same time watering/plowing fields just by people "activating it" so following a line maybe set up with a tile seperatofence type of item?)
Rollercoaster instead of train going all over your farm (haha kinda meant as a joke but would surely be fun), same as some dinosaurs, elephants and other more "exotic" animals.
Boxes/crates of all the different/some mixed crops/fruit. Wheelbarrows and boxes with produce/plants/fruit/crops in them so you can make your farm look more like a production site.
Starlink satellite, different camper vans, more bonfires
Maybe (some day?) an "ancient tractor", or even like a cow/horse/donkey carriage acting like a tractor. This could be fun!
Different SMALL one tile water fountains (used often in backyard gardening), different Water Pumps.
More varieties of bird feeders. Maybe a tree that has a squirrel on it.
Some more varied wooden benches, chairs, tables as often used in garden areas around the world. Maybe with some garden pots on them.
Maybe some pools and more deluxe items like parasols, sunbeds/deckchairs, sunchairs, so people can decorate a special garden at the player house as in a lounge area (as the farmhands do all the "work" lol)
Also maybe for more posh gardens some white gravel type of soil with some green scrubs in them.
Shovels and other tools sticking in the ground/soil (or on piles as is already in the game with the beautiful hay fork).
Hope this helps this is what I could come up with an hour or so and would love to see tho I realize not all is possible to do or really necessary! And I am happy even with the EA just like its now lol.
Hope we see some other good ideas posted here now! I realized its pretty hard to come up with this stuff!

[New Update]: My family forgot to invite me to my grandparents funeral, but they are convinced I was there.
Trigger Warnings: death of loved ones, emotional manipulation, gaslighting, harassment
RECAP
Original Post: November 14, 2023**
I’m 30s F and caused a major blowup in my family and now none of them are talking to me. For background, my hometown is tiny (500pop) and when I went 2 hrs away to “the city” (15,000pop) for college, I loved it. I ended up staying after graduation, got married, and am happy here for a decade. I visit my home town every few weeks or so, call/text my family near daily, and thought we were all good. My family’s pretty small. Just my brother, mom, step dad, dad, step mom, and an aunt and uncle (mom’s siblings, never married, no kids). My mother's grandparents moved to my home town when I was in high school and were just down the street from us. My family has always been pretty drama free (aside from my parent’s divorce when I was a kid) and we’ve been happy. The step-parents were blended in perfectly and we share holidays and celebrations together. We’re all super close and just the perfect little group.
Ever since I moved away, the topic of “when am I moving back?” is constant, and I’ve always laughed it off. My home town has nothing. You have to drive 30 minutes for milk and bread. 60-90 minute one-way commutes to work. And floods shut down the main road every Easter. I love the town, but I love here more. I have parks, stores, community events, a library! The “city” is great. My family grumbles that I need to move back, but I refuse. I've been trying to encourage them to come here, especially since it's not an hour drive to the nearest medical facility.
Now to the meat and potatoes: both my grandparents passed over COVID times. They were both old and their health had been failing for a while so it was only a matter of time. Thankfully they didn’t catch it, but it made visiting them impossible and we survived mostly through FaceTime. They both passed in their sleep months apart. Both were cremated and kept securely under the kitchen sink for safe keeping while the pandemic blew over. That was 2021.
Well, I just found out my family held a funeral for them and scattered the ashes in my uncle’s maple grove over the summer. No one said a word to me about it. I’ve visited numerous times before and after and not one word. I only found out because my great uncle from California posted on Facebook a few weeks ago that he is entering hospice and was so thankful his health stayed strong enough for him to see his little sister (my grandma) to her final resting place. I was confused and called my mom. She was all “Yeah, the funeral we had in July, remember?” Ya’ll, I visited them for the 4th of July. They did the funeral the 8th. Not a word about it to me. They had planned this for months. Long enough to arrange for my infirm great uncle to be brought over from the other side of the country. Apparently, they talked about it “all the time”.
Everyone is convinced I was at the funeral. They SWEAR I was there. I can prove I wasn’t because Google’s got my location history. My hubby is baffled because he was supposedly there, too, but he had to work every weekend in June and July. Time clock doesn’t lie. My family straight up forgot about me. I’m hurt. I’m sad. And they’re pissed at me “for lying”. They think I’m causing drama over nothing. Nothing I say can convince them I wasn’t there. My family is united in this. And they’ve all put me “on read” until I admit I’m wrong. They think I’ve gone nuts. Either there’s a doppelganger of me attending events, or my family doesn’t want to admit they screwed up. I’m not backing down.
Thanksgiving is coming up, and my family’s been vague posting on Facebook about “forgetful kids” and mental health. It’s so freaking weird and I don’t know if I’m in bizzaro world or what’s going on. My mom’s best friend reached out and said I should just admit I was wrong and apologize, that I’m causing my mom so much unnecessary stress. I asked her if she’s checked everyone’s home for CO2. She hung up on me. (We checked our CO2, and our testers are running just fine.) I have reached out to a few people in my home town to check in on my folks, and they all say they're fine. I even spoke with the local volunteer fire fighter group to see if they could check for gas leaks. Not sure if they were able to.
I don’t know what to do. I’ve shown them the proof I wasn’t there, but they know I’m tech savvy and just assume I’ve Photoshopped it. Hubby says we need a break, and we’re going to be staying home this holiday season.
Edit: I don't know the update rules, so I'll post updates to my profile should anyone want them.
Update #1: November 27, 2023
Not sure how to do updates on posts, so figured I'd post anything on my profile. Folks have private messaged me and this will be easier I think?
It's 11/27 and Thanksgiving just happened. Hubby and I stayed home. We got a small turkey and made our own little thanksgiving. It was nice. We ate around noon, then watched a movie, and later sat outside with a bottle of wine to watch the sun set behind the trees and neighbor houses.
We usually take the day before off, drive to my folks, stay the night, and help with the Thanksgiving Day cooking. So it wasn't until Wednesday night that my mom broke the silence. Mom called and asked when I was showing up, and I told her we were staying home this year, but for them to have a happy Thanksgiving, and to give the rest of the family my love. She was quiet for a long time after I said that, and I think she eventually mumbled an "okay", or something, and hung up. It wasn't an angry hang up. Just a hang up. On Thanksgiving day, I sent a group "Happy Thanksgiving!" gif to our family group chat. I received a few "happy Thanksgiving"'s back. No one's said anything else. There's been no posts on Facebook.
Update #2: December 12, 2023
So, I think I mentioned in one of my comments that my dad and I usually talk on the phone every Sunday morning. We're both early risers so we'd chat over our morning coffees and watch the sunrise. Him and I haven't really spoken since this all went down and it's been tough. I'm used to talking to him, you know?
Well, I was sitting outside in my usual spot, watching the sun rise and freezing my butt off, and he called me. I'm not entirely sure how to describe the emotions I felt. It was a mix of panic, hope, terror, happiness, and dread. I ended up answering because I just had to know what he wanted. It was an awkward conversation. He didn't address the current "drama", but instead tiptoed around the situation with all the grace of an cow on stilts. For instance, a simple "How are you doing?" Type question was answered with a "Not good." And the whole conversation would stall out for a bit because he knew why I wasn't doing well. So we ended up talking about the weather, the various winter birds we'd seen in our feeders, and the Christmas decorations around town. Things like that.
Eventually he asked if we were coming out for Christmas, and sounded sad when I told him we weren't. He asked if him and step mom could come visit us instead, and I told him it wasn't a good idea this year. That hubby and I were going to spend a quiet holiday together. I let him know he should be receiving some gifts at his PO Box any day now, so to please pick them up from the post office and put them under the family tree for everyone. He said he'd ship ours to us as well.
And that was pretty much it. No crazy drama to report. The only posts on Facebook have been the usual Christmas excitement ones, countdowns, photos of Santa, silly gift ideas, photos of company Christmas parties.
On a personal note: Hubby and I are doing alright. Our health is good, our spirits high, and we're as solid as ever. We each got Christmas bonus' at our jobs, so we're excited about that. They're not large, but we're happy to have them. We have also done advent calendars for the first time ever. I got him a Lego one, and he got me a hot chocolate one. We're going to do the calendars again next year. Maybe make a tradition out of it.
Everyone please have a safe and happy holidays.
Inheritance: December 16, 2023
I've received a lot - A LOT - of messages and private DMs urging me to check into inheritance and such. I'm really touched a lot of Internet strangers are worried about me and I wanted to ensure everyone that inheritance is most likely not an issue here. I'd almost be relieved if it was, because then it would at least make some sense. Money does weird things to people, you know?
No one in my family is wealthy by any means. After my grandparents' passed, their small estate was used to pay for their end of life expenses and remaining assets split up. Everyone directly related got an equal split (so excluded my dad and the step parents). I don't remember the exact amount I received, but it was around $5k if I recall. My brother gave me his share, too, so I could finish paying off my college debt while the interest freeze was active.
The great uncle from California has kids and grand kids, and great grandkids of his own, and also isn't wealthy. I think one of his kids makes good money doing something in finance, but I'm not entirely sure. I can't imagine he left us anything, as we hardly knew him. My mom, aunt, and uncle only met him a few times in their lives, and my brother and I even less. Grandma and him were close, but I don't think he liked my grandpa much.
Christmas: December 25, 2023
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I've received a lot of support through my posts and I'm really grateful. Writing these updates have had a therapeutic effect.
Yesterday was Sunday, but I didn't answer my dad when he called. I just really didn't feel up to a pointless chat, so let it go to voicemail. He tried to reach me a few times throughout the day, but I didn't answer.
Our bestie last minute invited us over to his house for Christmas day lunch (today), so husband and I were busy all Christmas Eve making cookies, peanut brittle, and homemade suckers/hard candies for his kids. Mom tried to reach out as well, but I also ignored her calls.
We had a BLAST at lunch! Our friend's kids are a lot of fun to be around. They got some techy presents from their grandparents (Quest vr headset and steam decks, lucky little rascals) Friend and his wife aren't good with tech, while hubby and I are, so we helped get them set up while our friend played a good host to his folks and inlaws. The grandparents didn't realize that a Steam deck required a Steam account, so we got the kids all their own accounts set up, added them to our steam friends lists, and gifted them some games. We also bought them a few VR games for their headset, and they were off to the races with Beat Saber in no time.
As for my folks: My brother texted and asked if we could talk sometime tomorrow. I think me ignoring mom and dad has caused some kind of upset. Which they deserve.
Brother’s call: December 26, 2023
Spoke with my brother over the phone this morning.
For starters, he apologized for everything. Him and I are good (for now). For a bit of background, my brother and I are only 2 years apart. There weren't a lot of kids around growing up, so the two of us were often stuck doing stuff together. So we have a lot of shared interests and passions. He's been pretty silent on this whole matter, but still "part of the group", if you know what I mean. I think the thought of losing him out of my life was probably the most painful, because he's always been there. He was my rock until I met my husband. He's definitely a Mama's boy, though, so anything mom wanted, he made sure she got. I'm happy to have him back.
Without further ado, here's the story from the horse's mouth:
Mom apparently had a cancer scare late last year (which no one told me about, go figure), and dad had a stint put in his heart back in January (which I did know about). This "sense of mortality" has apparently lit a fire under Mom's ass to get me back home. But since I wasn't reacting to her passive aggressive hinting, she and step mom decided to go full crazy. My great uncle's health was bad, and he'd been asking about funeral arrangements for his sister (my grandma) for a while, so the moms decided to plan it. And use the event as a giant middle finger to me. They kept all the planning pretty hush-hush between the two of them, so no one on our side of the family actually knew about the funeral until like 2 weeks before. The moms said they'd invited hubby and I. No one thought anything about it. No one thought to mention, confirm, or check with me.
The plan was to scatter the ashes, say a few words, and maybe head to town for lunch. It was a small affair. The mom's didn't even tell the family that our great uncle was coming for it. Like I said, it was a small thing. Barely a footnote. No one thought it was odd because we're pretty chill people.
4th of July happens. Hubby and I are out. No one thought to mention it, as we were all busy celebrating and having a great time. Any time the topic of "this weekend" would start, the conversation would be quickly shifted by one of the moms. We went back home.
8th of July happens. Great uncle rolls into town with a few of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and it's a surprise to everyone (but the moms). Everyone drives to the maple grove and the moms have brought a ton of food and stuff. It's a full blown party. No one on my side noticed I wasn't there, because there were so many extra faces outside the usual group. They did the spreading of the ashes, they said their words, they ate, they had a great time. It wasn't until our great uncle left, and all his side left with him, that they realized I wasn't there. And hadn't been there.
And this is where the crazy went up a notch. My brother says the moms were happy no one noticed I wasn't there. And that this was proof to everyone that I needed to move back because I was so easily forgotten about. Because none of them thought to reach out, right? They basically did a ton of guilt tripping manipulation bullshit and it made everyone upset at me for not showing up. Somehow it was my fault for being excluded. So suddenly everyone was on their side with "sticking it to me".
But then a few months went by, and tempers cooled, and then I guess the horror of it set in. Followed by the shame, but by then they were "in too deep". How do you undo something like this? And since I hadn't brought it up, I guess they figured they would all just stay quiet about it and hope I never asked about a funeral.
That's when I discovered the situation from my great uncle's Facebook and called my mom, who panicked and went with the stupidest solution. Claiming I was there. Don't I remember?
I ended up talking with a few friends from high school, mentioning the situation, and word got back to those in town. So suddenly town gossip and little old church ladies got involved. Was I, or wasn't I at the funeral? Did my family forget to invite me to the funeral of the only grandparents I'd ever know? Or am I just causing a ruckus? My brother said they all just went with mom's answer. Of course they wouldn't forget me. Of course I was there. Of course they're good people. And it just snowballed.
The family expected me to eventually fold. I'm usually a nonconfrontational person, so me sticking to my guns was unexpected. And then I missed Thanksgiving. And now Christmas. With no sign of backing down. And I guess the realization that I could just stop being part of their lives is setting in and my parents are panicking. He's tried just getting them to apologize and explain, but stubbornness prevails. They want to rug sweep, but I'm not letting them.
My brother is upset with everything that's happened. He's realized just how crappy it all has been and he wants nothing to do with it anymore. But since he lives with my mom, he can't "get away from it".
He has asked if he can come stay with us for a little bit. I spoke with hubby, and he's in agreement with me that my brother can come crash in our spare bedroom for as long as he wants. Brother works remotely, so it's no trouble for him to pick up and go. I believe he's making the trip today or tomorrow. Not entirely sure, but I expect crap to hit the fan when he arrives.
On a side note, hubby's stoked that my brother and I made up. The two usually game together, but haven't due to "the situation". He's downstairs right now setting up his man cave in preparation for my brother's arrival. I'm happy to see him so excited.
Brother's Here: December 27, 2023
My brother rolled in late last night. He'd obviously been crying and when I opened the door, he just held me and sobbed. I'd never seen him like that before and soon both of us were just standing in the doorway crying into one another. He kept apologizing. Over and over again. Said he wasn't sure why he went with it. Just kept saying sorry. Hubby got him all set up in the spare bedroom while brother and I talked. My brother's a wreck. He's always been a big guy, but he's lost a lot of weight and his clothes just hang off him. If I didn't know better, I'd think he was on drugs. We talked for a little bit before bed and he re-explained everything for my husband. I'd told hubby the story, but it was just so weird that hearing it again helped.
This morning my brother was up at dawn making some coffee and getting his work day going. Hubby's off all week (lucky) so hubby made us working folk some pancakes and bacon. So far everything's peaceful. We've decided not to answer any calls from our family. They've been made aware that he arrived safely, and that we are going to spend the New Years together, and that we're not answering any calls until January 1st. They may text if they wish. I'm sure they're losing their minds. Serves them right.
Everyone, have a safe and happy new years! Don't drink and drive!
Happy 2024!: January 2, 2024
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holidays, and may the new year be full of joy and happiness!
Not too much of an update. Things here have been quiet. My brother's settled in nicely and he's a great housemate. Our place isn't very big, but we have full basement and a nice outside patio/porch area so it doesn't feel crowded at all with the extra addition. He's a quiet and clean guy. No hassle at all. He got some fresh clothes from the Walmart, a haircut, and trimmed his beard, so he's more "presentable" now. He's a lady killer when he gets cleaned up. He's made nice with the (very nosy, but kind) retired couple next door and is adapting to "city living" nicely.
Folks back home have been mostly well behaved. There's been a few texts back and forth, as we're not answering calls. Mom mainly wants to know when brother's coming back, but he's keen on staying here for a while. Mom said I can't "keep him" and I told her he's a grown ass man and can do what he wants. Brother says he has her blocked after she ORDERED him to return home.
Brother has tentatively asked if he could stay long term, should he decide to, or at least longer than a usual visitor would stay. Which we're fine with. He has a good paying job and could afford an apartment, but he's never lived on his own and I would guess he has some anxiety about it. Should that be the case, he'll start paying us some rent and we'd probably adjust to give him the basement as his own space.
Had to change the locks: January 17, 2024
My brother is officially staying with us for the long haul. Hubby and him spent all Sunday organizing the basement and shifting things around so he now has his own area to be comfortable in. He's pretty handy and has also started fixing little things around our house. Our windows and doors have never closed and locked/unlocked smoother. He even fixed one of the closets we never use because we can never get the darn door open. Sadly, he also had to change the locks on our house and get us all new keys.
This is because while hubby and I were out this Saturday, the moms showed up. They'd been calling and texting us all week, but we weren't really answering them, so I guess the two decided to drive over and hash it out in person. They have emergency keys to my place, and just let themselves in. Brother told them to leave, they argued, and my nosy (but kind) neighbors called the police when they noticed the commotion. So, we get a call from neighbor's wife, return home to some cops in our yard, all the neighbors out "vacuuming their trees", and my nosy (but kind) neighbors standing on my porch with my brother behind them, doing their best Gandalf "You shall not pass" impression.
Had to talk with the cops, explain that we were having a family dispute and word vomited. I don't really remember what all I said, and was shaking a lot. Our local cops are really great. Fantastic guys and gals in blue, and took it all in stride. It's really cold here, so one had me join him in his cruiser with the heat on, and gave me a bottle of water to calm down while we talked. They asked if we wanted the moms trespassed but I wasn't sure if that counted as a criminal charge so just asked the cops if they could just make them leave, which the cops did with no fuss. I think the moms were shocked we were taking this so seriously. They didn't fight or scream at us. Just left quietly.
My dad promised me he'd make sure his wife left us alone. "Or else". He said he'd also have a stern talk with my mom. Him and I talked Sunday morning, and he seemed absolutely at the end of his rope. Husband jokingly told my dad he could move in, too. To which he declined.
Not sure where to go from here, but we're getting some ring cameras installed once they arrive. And everyone but my dad is blocked. Hopefully they all just leave us alone.
Nothing New To Report: February 2, 2024
Had a lot of DMs for updates, but don't have much anything to report on. The moms are behaving themselves. All's quiet on the western front. Felt weird ignoring or copy/pasting "no updates" to everyone, so here's what we've been doing, should anyone care.
Dad got a new bird/squirrel feeder from Amazon (looks like a little picnic table for a child's dolly but has a mesh top for the bird seed. I think it's supposed to be for chickens?) It's totes adorbs. To his horror, it also works as a Cooper hawk feeder, so now he's "fortifying his defenses" and putting up some trellises around it. He'll have to wait till warmer weather before planting anything to grow on them.
We had some ring cameras installed and put in a motion-activated camera that double functions as a light bulb. It goes in the light fixture outside the front door and is pretty cool. Video quality isn't all that great, but it's a nice addition I guess. It does overlook the bird feeders, so I've been watching it on my lunch breaks on the days I have to go into the office.
Hubby and brother are feuding. They started a coop farm in Stardew Valley a few days ago and they both want to romance Leah. My husband confided in me that he's also been romancing Sebastian as a backup. I'm not sure why he's keeping this a secret, but he's pretty smug about it.
RELEVANT COMMENTS
fractal_frog I hope your dad can outsmart the hawks!
OOP: He'll be able to, I just know it. He's used to dealing with the wildlife and having hawks about, but he just wasn't expecting one to snag a meal right from his new feeder.
I told him it was "technically" still a bird feeder. Just....for bigger birds. Which he thought was funny. He said he might make a little "no hawks allowed" sign to put up next to it.
MissOP: keep the updates coming. the moms are so close to folding it's just a little bit more. LMAO also, the bro mance between your husband and brother is so cute. lol Honestly, I think your husband making sure he has a side piece of Sebastian is absolutely the play.
OOP: So far still no word from the moms, but I hope you're right. I would love an apology and for us to begin moving past this. But I NEED that apology. I feel selfish saying that, but I refuse to "be the bigger person" on this. I just won't.
As for my brother and husband, yeah, they're basically soul mates. The two hit it off immediately when they first met, and they've been thick as thieves for years.
Update: February 27, 2024
My dad came out for a visit over the weekend. We had a good time and the weather was lovely for some grilling and beers. It was really nice to see him again and he seemed healthy and in good spirits.
Here's his report from back home: Step mom (dad's wife) has started to realize she's screwed up. I credit her change of mindset to the fact that my dad sat her down and laid it out for her: she leaves his kids alone, or she's getting divorce papers. That apparently shut her up right quick, because they had a prenup done when they married and I'm not sure the details of it, but it wouldn't end favorably for her. She hasn't worked in years, so I imagine she'd be eligible for alimony? But I'm not versed in any of that legal mumbojumbo. Dad didn't seem too worried about it, so I'm not gonna worry about it.
Step dad was pissed the police were involved in the last "mom visit" (despite no one getting arrested or anything) and was in a "the kids are out of control and need to be reigned back in" mindset. When my dad pointed out that "the kids" in question were all in their mid-30s, it took some of the steam out of stepdad's sails. According to my dad, even my mom looked a little surprised when he said that. So, part of me is wondering if a good chunk of this whole thing is my mom not truly realizing that her kids were grown, and no longer children she could make demands of. Both of the moms have left us alone. I expected my mom to continue to kick up a fuss, but I think the cops spooked her.
There was a wonderful suggestion by a comment or to get their pastor involved, which I passed along to my dad. Dad has since spoken to their pastor about everything. He's a young guy, relatively new to their church, and joked that his first month on the job he had to do 3 funerals in a row and his new "flock" were just dying to get away from him, so he's got a sense of humor which is nice. The new pastor agreed to sit down with everyone and help the family hash it all out in a true "Come to Jesus" type moment next month, so that maybe we could celebrate Easter together as our first holiday as a family. Dad said the pastor was aware our family was having some troubles, but unsure of exactly what was going on, and since he was new, the pastor didn't want to pry. He has also agreed to do a small service down at my uncle's maple grove later in the summer, as it usually floods and is a muddy mess all spring. According to my dad, my aunt and uncle are so over all the drama and just ready to move on, so I expect hugs and apologies from them when we next meet.
Stardew Valley Update: My brother was victorious in the grand fight for Leah. It was a hard battle. Well fought. When my husband exposed his plans to woo Sebastian all this time, it was quite the betrayal. Dramatics aside, their farm is really cute and I'm so happy they're enjoying the game!
Update 4/1 - Final one I think - April 1, 2024
Happy April Fools everyone! I hope you all check your caramel apples for stray onions before taking a bite! I also hope your Easter weekend was a delightful one.
It is with great joy that I tell you all about our most recent update! Possibly even a conclusion to this whole ordeal.
The entire family (aunt, uncle, moms, dads, brother, me, husband) and pastor met at my dad's house and we all sat down to hash the situation out. As expected from what my dad said, my aunt and uncle greeted us all with apologies and hugs, which was nice. My uncle usually helps host the Easter egg hunts with the church and he brought our Easter baskets to give to us in case us kids weren't sticking around the for the weekend. I'm not sure why but seeing it made me tear up and feel stupid, because it was just a basket of candy but it meant a lot to me for some reason.
The pastor led us in a prayer and talked about forgiveness and such. He then asked us all to talk one at a time about how we're feeling and what we want the end result of today to be. No one was allowed to interrupt so everyone got to talk. It was nice. The consensus for the group was that most everyone wanted things to go back to "normal". The only ones who had any variance off this was my mom and step dad. They both wanted all us kids to move back to the area.
The pastor asked them why they wanted us back, and neither could give a good reason other than "because family", and the pastor asked us if we were thriving where we were. And we said we were. He asked if we were happy there. Which we were. He then asked my mom and step dad if they wanted us to give up our happiness to make them happy.
And Mom broke down and said no. We all had a good cry. The pastor then asked about the funeral and lies that led up to it and followed it and how it made us all feel and what we wished we'd done differently if we had the chance. It was all very emotional, but in a good way, you know? Everyone apologized and admitted they f-ed up and did a really crappy thing.
We all talked for a long, long time and the pastor was a great mediator. Eventually we all reached some sort of resolution and I think we're good now. Emotions are still high and a little raw in areas, but we stayed for Easter weekend and had a nice time. We're going to keep moving forward slowly and try to repair the relationship, but I believe we're well and truly out of the woods.
As for my brother, he's still staying with us, and mom will stop trying to guilt trip him back home. He's thinking about renting a small apartment in our area but we're not pushing him to make a decision. He knows he's welcome to stay as long as he wants. I think he wants to try dating (he's had a few girlfriends but never anything serious) and is embarrassed to bring any girls around our place, lol. He's been going to a few random classes/bookclubs at the local library for something free to do and hitting it off with all the little old ladies who attend, and they keep trying to hook him up with girls his age who they know. He has been on a few lunches/coffee dates with a couple girls, but I think he's too embarrassed by the attention to give it a real try at "dating" any of them. He's happy, though, which is all I could ask for.
I'm not sure if there will be any more updates, as I think it's all be resolved about as much as it can be at the moment. I wanted to thank you all for your words of advice and giving me a place to vent and scream into the void. Please be kind to one another and to yourselves. Thank you.
Relevant Comments
emjkr: What a nice and hopeful update, I’m really glad you stuck to your guns when everyone threw sanity out the window!
But, could your mother explain how she thought this would work out in her favour?
OOP: I don't think mom thought too far ahead. I believe she assumed it would all just magically work out the way she wanted it to. She said she wasn't sure what she was expecting to happen (which I think was a lie, but I wasn't going to push it).
mak_zaddy: This was a great update! But ummmmmm no stardew valley update? What gives? Has Sebastian been woo’ed? How’s Leah? What’s happening?
OOP: Sebastian has indeed been wooed (and whoohooed) There's kids and cows and chickens. The two are still having a wonderful time at the game. They're working on completing the community center but it's slow going as they aren't trying to speedrun and just doing things as they want. I believe they're thinking about going into the desert mines once they complete that bundle, but they're both super chicken shit about it!
-my-cabbages: I don't really understand what you had to apologize for ... but I'm glad you're happy and the situation seems to be settling down
OOP: There wasn't much of an apology on my end, as everyone agreed I had done nothing wrong. Mine was more of a "I'm sorry you didn't feel as though I would listen." Type apology, which I don't really believe is a proper apology because apologies like that push the blame back on another. I mostly expressed my feelings and the shock of it all, and how betrayed I felt.

----NEW UPDATE----

Small, happy update: May 7, 2024 (1 month later)
Things as wonderful as the moment. Still doing baby steps with The Moms. We're texting and talking on the phones more, which is nice. Very civil.
Dad "accidentally" bought a bunch of hand crafted bird feeders at a craft fair. By accidentally, I mean: he had a little too much fun in the beer tent, went for a stroll while step mom wasn't looking, and stumbled upon a guy's booth and bought "one of each". He wouldn't tell me how MANY "one of each" was, but he cackled like a witch when I asked. Step mom said she's forcing him to give a few to me, so I'm expecting a delivery or a Dad-visit any day now.
My brother is officially "going steady" with a girl. We've met her a few times and she seems like a real sweetheart. She's our age and has a little boy (5-6 years old, I haven't asked) from a previous relationship (The dad's not in the picture from what I can gather). She's the granddaughter of one of his Book Club members, so the old ladies made good match makers in the end. The relationship is still very new and I'm routing for them.
No new Stardew Valley updates. Work has been a little crazy lately and I haven't been able to play much of anything, and brother has been distracted by his new lady friend. So, husband finally started Baldur's Gate 3, and fell for Gale's "magic trick" so now those two are a thing. I expect him to be sufficiently distracted from reality for the next few weeks.

How to Choose Bathtub Manufacturers?

When selecting bathtub manufacturers, it’s essential to approach the decision-making process with a comprehensive perspective. Here are some refined considerations to guide your selection:
  1. Quality and Brand Integrity: Opt for manufacturers renowned for their superior bathtub quality. Delve into their historical performance, peruse customer testimonials, and ascertain any recognitions, certifications, or accolades underscoring their quality adherence.
  2. Material Diversity and Design Variety: Seek manufacturers who present a broad spectrum of material choices and design variations to align with your aesthetic desires and functional prerequisites. Examine offerings ranging from acrylic to cast iron, composite, and steel enamel, ensuring they can cater to your specific design preferences.
  3. Customization Capabilities: Should your project necessitate bespoke dimensions, contours, or finishes, confirm the manufacturer’s adaptability to customization. It’s imperative to collaborate with a manufacturer receptive to your distinct design specifications.
  4. Operational Efficiency: Scrutinize the manufacturer’s production prowess and delivery schedules. Ascertain their capacity to manage your order magnitude and their commitment to punctual deliveries, pivotal to maintaining project timelines.
  5. Product Warranty and Post-Sale Assistance: Investigate whether the manufacturer extends product guarantees and the nature of their post-sale services. A commendable manufacturer remains unwavering in their product support, ensuring client satisfaction post-purchase.
  6. Pricing and Value Proposition: While juxtaposing prices across manufacturers, gauge the intrinsic value extended for the expenditure. It’s salient to remember that the most economical choice might not equate to the most durable or qualitative. Strive for an equilibrium between expense and inherent worth.
  7. Eco-Conscious Initiatives: For those prioritizing sustainability, align with manufacturers championing green initiatives and sustainable material usage. Look for accreditations such as ISO or LEED as indicators of their environmental stewardship.

I think she forgot to about her drunken videos from last night where all she did was complain about how stressful it is throwing a 3 year olds birthday party and how hard it is to blow up balloons. Bestie, you made a “homemade” cake from a BOX and hired people to decorate your entire house. All you did was set the kids table and get drunk😂

Innovative Floral Artistry: A Guide to Modern Flower Arrangements
Modern Flower Arrangements
Flowers have held a special place in human culture for millennia, symbolizing love, celebration, and beauty. But floral arrangements have evolved far beyond the traditional round bouquets. Modern flower arrangements embrace a spirit of innovation, pushing the boundaries of color, texture, and form. This guide will unveil the secrets to creating stunning modern flower arrangements, transforming your home or event into a captivating space.

Breaking the Mold: Characteristics of Modern Flower Arrangements

Modern flower arrangements depart from the symmetrical, tightly packed style often associated with traditional bouquets. Here are some key characteristics that define the modern aesthetic:
  • Unconventional Color Palettes: Ditch the expected and explore unexpected color combinations. Think bold monochromes, vibrant contrasts, or a soft, pastel symphony.
  • Playing with Texture: Incorporate a variety of textures for visual intrigue. Combine soft roses with spiky succulents, delicate ferns with fluffy pampas grass, or velvety dahlias with smooth calla lilies.
  • Asymmetrical Balance: Modern arrangements don't require perfect symmetry. Embrace an asymmetrical flow that creates a sense of movement and dynamism.
  • Negative Space is Your Friend: Don't feel obligated to fill every inch of the vase. Let negative space breathe between the flowers, highlighting their individual beauty.
  • Unexpected Containers: Think beyond the traditional glass vase. Modern arrangements utilize unique containers like geometric terrariums, vintage tins, or even driftwood sculptures.
  • Seasonal Inspiration: Embrace the fleeting beauty of the seasons. Use locally-sourced, in-season flowers for a fresh and sustainable approach.

Crafting Your Masterpiece: A Step-by-Step Guide

Now that you understand the hallmarks of modern arrangements, let's get your hands dirty!
  • Gather your Supplies: Fresh flowers (consider incorporating foliage and filler elements), floral shears, a selection of interesting containers (waterproof them if necessary), floral foam (optional) and floral tape (optional).
  • Prep Your Flowers: Cut stems diagonally with sharp shears to maximize water absorption. Remove any excess leaves below the waterline. Precondition thirsty blooms by placing them stem-deep in cool water for a few hours.
  • Choose Your Container: Select a container that complements the overall style and scale of your arrangement. Consider the height and width of the flowers in relation to the container.
  • Assemble the Base (Optional): If using a shallow container or desiring more control over placement, create a grid base with floral tape. Alternatively, use floral foam soaked in water for a more stable foundation.
  • Building Your Arrangement: Start with your largest or focal flower, placing it in the desired central position. Build around this focal point, adding contrasting colors, textures, and heights for visual interest.
  • Foliage and Fillers: Foliage like eucalyptus or ferns add depth and greenery. Fillers like baby's breath or berries enhance texture and fill negative space.
  • Securing Your Creation: Once satisfied with the arrangement, use floral tape or pins to secure the stems discreetly in place, especially if using a loose, asymmetrical style.
  • Adding the Finishing Touches: Top off your creation with a decorative element like a beautiful ribbon or a spritz of water shimmer spray for a touch of glamor.

Embrace the Unexpected: Modern Design Ideas

  • Monochrome Magic: Create a dramatic impact with a single color palette in varying shades and textures. Think deep purple orchids with lavender roses and wispy statice.
  • Branching Out: Incorporate interesting branches or twigs for a sculptural element. Play with height and angles for a modern, organic aesthetic.
  • Succulent Sensations: Succulents and cacti offer a low-maintenance, modern twist on floral arrangements. Combine them with air plants or colorful pebbles for a desert-inspired vibe.
  • Deconstructed Elegance: Break apart a traditional bouquet and arrange the individual stems in a cluster for a minimalist, artistic effect.
  • Hanging Gardens: Suspending arrangements in terrariums or macrame plant hangers adds a whimsical touch to modern spaces.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Techniques for Modern Flower Arrangements

Once you've mastered the fundamentals, explore these advanced techniques to elevate your modern flower arrangements to new heights:
  • Color Blocking: Create a bold statement by using distinct blocks of color in your arrangement. Imagine hot pink lilies contrasting with deep purple calla lilies or orange tulips juxtaposed with blue thistle.
  • Ombre Delights: Embrace the gradual transition of color with an ombre effect. Use flowers that come in a range of hues within a single color palette, like a light pink to deep fuchsia gradient or a pale yellow to fiery orange progression.
  • Floral Crowns and Garlands: Modern floral artistry extends beyond vases. Create stunning floral crowns or garlands for a unique centerpiece, table runner, or even a statement wall hanging. Experiment with fresh or dried flowers depending on your desired aesthetic.
  • Playing with Scale: Don't be afraid to go big or small! Create dramatic floor arrangements with towering branches and oversized blooms, or craft delicate miniature arrangements in teacups or seashells for a whimsical touch.
  • Dried Delights: Dried flowers offer a long-lasting, sustainable alternative to fresh blooms. Create textural arrangements with dried pods, grasses, and preserved flowers for a rustic-modern aesthetic.

Caring for Your Modern Masterpiece

  • Fresh Starts: Change the water in your arrangement every few days to prevent bacterial growth. Give the stems a fresh cut at an angle while replacing the water.
  • Location, Location, Location: Display your modern arrangement away from direct sunlight and heat sources, as these can shorten the lifespan of your blooms.
  • Hydration Hero: Mist the flowers lightly every few days to maintain their freshness, especially in dry climates.

Modern Flower Arrangements: More Than Just Aesthetics

Modern flower arrangements are more than just visually stunning; they can evoke emotions, tell stories, and set the mood for a space. Here are some inspiring ways to incorporate modern arrangements into your life:
  • Elevating Your Home Decor: Modern arrangements add a touch of artistry and life to any room. Place them on a console table, coffee table, or bookshelf for a vibrant pop of color and texture.
  • Creating a Tabletop Statement: Impress your guests at a dinner party with a modern centerpiece that complements your table setting and overall ambiance.
  • Celebrating Special Occasions: Move beyond the traditional bouquet and gift a unique, modern flower arrangement for birthdays, anniversaries, or any special occasion.
  • Adding a Touch of Zen: Modern arrangements with calming color palettes and natural elements like bamboo or orchids can create a tranquil atmosphere in your home office or spa-like bathroom.
  • Embracing Sustainability: Opt for locally-sourced, in-season flowers and utilize eco-friendly containers like recycled glass or woven baskets for a sustainable approach to floral artistry.

Conclusion: The Art of Modern Floral Design

The world of modern flower arrangements is a playground for creativity. Embrace the unconventional, experiment with different techniques, and most importantly, have fun! With a little practice and these helpful tips, you can create stunning arrangements that will transform your space and leave a lasting impression.
So, unleash your inner floral artist, explore the endless possibilities, and let your blooms speak for themselves!

FAQs: Unleashing Your Inner Floral Artist

  • What flowers are best for modern arrangements? There are no hard and fast rules! Experiment with a variety of blooms, but consider air plants, orchids, proteas, lilies, tulips, and roses for their unique shapes and textures.
  • How long will my modern flower arrangement last? The lifespan depends on the flower varieties and care. Keep the water level topped up with fresh, cool water and display them away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Where can I find inspiration for modern flower arrangements? Social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest are treasure troves for modern floral design inspiration. Explore hashtags like #modernfloralarrangements or follow popular floral artists.

2024.05.13 09:05 Smart-Association-59 AITAH for kicking my daughters father out of her wedding?

Let me start by saying I don’t normally ask this question as I’m definitely an AH most of the time but in this instance I’m conflicted. From the beginning - my ex and I were only together for a short time. He was abusive both emotionally and physically and our relationship ended with me escaping with my 5 week old daughter and a bag of clothes while adorning 2 black eyes, a broken nose and a split lip, which I still have the scars from. Yes I called the cops and he was charged with assault and I went thru the courts and have a permanent protection order against him. Since then I went thru therapy and raised my daughter alone until I remarried 12 years ago to the love of my life and we now share a 10 year old son.
I had remained close to my ex sil thru this and she had visited and stayed with me several times. I also allowed my daughter to have a relationship with her fathers family and she had visited and stayed with them from the age of ten. She had asked over the years why we split but I told her that I would explain it when she was older. That happened when she was 13 after coming home from visiting them and her aunties decided to trash talk me and tell lies. Little did they know that I kept a copy of the court case including theirs and exes statements which he admitted to the physical abuse and his sister had outright lied in court. I also had never spoken about or trashed them to her so now she has the truth. This whole time her father had gotten progressively worse and ended up homeless on the streets succumbing to his addictions. He had ignored my daughter for most of her visits and has never spent any time with her.
My ex sil that I still loved tragically passed away so I allowed my daughter (who was now 15) to stay and support my ex sil 2 young girls thru this awful tragedy and she grew closer to her grandfather (my daughter has an uncanny likeness to ex sil). I have spoken to her grandfather on a few occasions and was happy to support them having a relationship. She never got close to her father as he never got his act together and still doesn’t to this day. Which brings us to the wedding day.
The family flew to our city for the wedding and her grandfather asked to meet with us before the wedding. We happily hosted him and had a great night getting to know each other again. I asked my daughter if her father was here too and she looked away while saying ‘nah I don’t think he’s coming’. Well I took a few days off work before the wedding thinking my daughter would want some help and spent every minute helping with the final arrangements up until we got to the church. I arrived early as I had decorations for the isle I wanted to finish. We had already agreed and had the rehearsal where her grandfather and I would walk her down the aisle (I stood at the halfway point where her grandfather handed her to me).
Then they arrived…. And HE walked in with them. I haven’t seen this man in 21 years. He hasn’t been at any of her important events, never bought her Xmas or birthday presents. Never saw her play sports or her performances but here he is on her wedding day. I froze on the spot and a wave of panic washed over me and I just wanted to run but looking out over the seats I see me family and husband and I know I can’t just walk out..I can’t just abandon her now. So I looked down and tried to distract myself with the final touches but my blood was boiling.
At this moment my exFil approached me and went to hug me. This was my breaking point and I put my hand up and told him NO don’t touch me. I can’t remember exactly what I said but it was something like, ME ‘what is HE doing here’ ExFil ‘ he was invited ME ‘and you didn’t think to mention this the other night? ExFil ‘I thought you knew’ ME ‘no I didn’t and he has no right. He’s been absent for her entire life and you honestly think I’d be ok with this? Or did you think I would just suck it up? Do you think I’m some doormat that you and your family can just walk all over and I’m expected to just put up with it? There’s no way in hell I’ll allow him to be honoured as the father of the bride. He’s a POS who isn’t worthy of my daughter and there’s no way in hell he gets to take the credit for the amazing woman she is now. Fk that he’s got some nerve turning up now! ExFil ‘it’ll be ok, we’ll keep an eye on him ME if that POS comes anywhere near me or try’s to talk to me or put his hands on me this will be an absolute shit storm and I promise you this will get ugly This was when my husband stood up and stood by my side. I wasn’t yelling by the way so no one else heard but my family were watching and they knew I was mad just by the look on my face. My ExFil then apologised but I told him not to bother as his son never apologised and it’s far too late for that now. He then asked if I would forgive him. The audacity! I told him it’s too late for that and forgiveness is for chumps and that motherf*er can burn in hell for all I care. I then told him to leave me alone.
The wedding went on as planned and I put on my best front and didn’t look at him once. When I sat back down my husband took my hand and held on to me. It took all my strength to not cry and scream at them. I just kept telling myself to hold it together, he can’t hurt me, he can’t get to me while my husband is here.
He didn’t turn up to the reception which I was grateful for. I suspect the rest of his family thought there’d be some showdown if he did. They were right because he told them if he just got to talk to me everything would be ok. My daughter apologised for not telling me but expected me to suck it up for her wedding. I told her I felt blindsided and backed into a corner, if she had told me then I would of discussed boundaries with ExFil and we could’ve all stayed in our lanes but to expect it on the day without warning was unreasonable.
I put on a brave face and pretended everything was ok but honestly I just feel emotionally spent and I’m running on empty. My daughter messaged me yesterday wanting me to go to dinner with her for Mother’s Day but I just don’t trust her to not put me in a comprising position again especially since they were still here so I just ignored her. She messaged again today and I just told her I was too exhausted to go out which isn’t a lie and she said she understood. I just need some space from her.
I can’t stop crying and I don’t know why. I guess I’m still tired from the late nights and early mornings from the past 4 days. My friends and husband tell me I was justified in my reaction but I don’t know, they’re my friends and family who always have my back so I’m asking you reddit, was I the AH? Did I over react? Should I have put aside my fears and sucked it up?

2024.05.12 23:08 RecognitionDouble311 Point event maps

The map selection for PE is disappointing. Whenever Klab creates a wonderful looking map, they never use it as extra quest maps. Which is really frustring, for example, the halloween, or XMAS update. The snowy/halloween decorated map looks so good, but you can only play on them in story mode, and for the extra quests map, where you spend most of your time, they just use the old maps, like karakura town, Soul Society or Hueco Mundo. Latest example is the future society map. It looks stunning, very good designed, but again, you can only access it in story mode, which you clear once and never come back to it again.
They really should choose the extra quest maps better, if its winter, there should be a winter themed map, same for halloween and summer. They could also just choose another variant of the old maps, like rainy soul society or sunset karakura
Good, but unused/rare extra quest maps examples: Forest (normal, winter, halloween) - https://youtu.be/onKr7kK5hqI?t=419
City (winter, sunset) - https://youtu.be/tSZ65b2MSos?t=4848 https://youtu.be/mvtd_7z9MbE?t=48
River - https://youtu.be/wzK8qGFBOH4?t=73
Beach(also has a sunset version) - https://youtu.be/mO0SH6giUps?list=PLzyVKXjer831mRAno_hEX7WpySePCeBAN&t=4438
Soul Society (spirit society, rain, midnight): https://youtu.be/zE4te1wnFIM?t=1774 https://youtu.be/xkhcQCrONCI?t=2400
These are the maps that comes to my mind at the moment.
I'm sure the game would have much more vibe if the extra quest map would be selected according to seasons/holidays. And it wouldn't even be hard for them to make this happen. This little, but important change would be awesome.

2024.05.12 09:44 dimmeto Can we get the option to recycle items for shards, rerolls or candiese Valve? Please?

As the title says - the idea behind this is for the community to be able to recycle unwanted items - Items which got dropped by playing, useless items such as the fragments from previous recycle iterations, MMR DOUBLEDOWN tokens for non-ranked enjoyers, items that are untradeable for a whole yeah such as the showcase decorations from Crownfall etc. Now the idea poses a problem too: abuse of the system by buying cheap items on the market and recycling them. For that I propose 2 solutions.
Solution no.1 - If marketable/tradeable items are allowed to be recycled: Currently for 7.59euros we get 30 candies 10 rerolls and 20 mmr double down tokens, so as a precautionary measure for this to not get abused by ppl buying items for 0.03e on the market and recycling them, I propose every item to be worth either 0.1 or 0.05 rerolls with 0.05 being more realistic - since you'll need 20 items for a reroll which means 0.6euros per reroll or 6euros per 10 rerolls (I haven't done the math for candies sry).
Solution no.2 - Only unmarketable/untradeable items can be recycled: This solves the abuse problem, the rewards in rerolls could be the same as solution no.1 i.e. 20items for reroll. If this idea is implemented to get dota+ shards make it so each item is worth a little (50, 100, 200) shards. w.e. As I said, the goal is the clear inventory of unwanted items. You can even implement a system based on item rarity (50 shards for common, 500 for arcana).
What do you guys think?

2024.05.11 23:15 abt_1657 Wedding favors advice - homemade candles or homemade preserved jam that fits my theme? Or something else entirely?

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on my favors. I’m having a small, intimate wedding on my MOH’s fancy new luxury outdoor deck in October. About 20 people showing up. Only our nearest and dearest.
I love making candles and homemade canned food. I was thinking to make either some pretty candles and decorate them, or a half pint mason jar of jam and decorate the jar. The jam would be flower based, so it would fit the theme of the wedding.
I think since my wedding is so small it would be nice to make some lovely homemade favors, and these are 2 hobbies I’m good at and love, but not sure if my ideas are weird.
I was thinking to just have them on a table and anyone can pick up a favor if they like, since we aren’t doing a formal dinner or anything. (So I wouldn’t put them at their seats like my fiancé was imagining before our real plan came together)
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you guys so much!

2024.05.11 18:27 daz079 Making a lower offer on a house, as a nervous first time buyer

I'm currently looking to buy my first home. I've rented my whole adult life, I've lived in my current home for 10 years, as a single father along my with daughter.
My landlord tried to sell the house last year, he inherited a portfolio and I get the impression it bores him being a landlord. He attempted to sell to other landlords only and ultimately delisted the property, due to little interest, giving me a year to either buy or accept the inevitable.
I don't want to buy this house, I dislike it and dislike the area, but initially it was the best I could get. I had to go back into education when I became a lone parent and ultimately graduated almost 6 years ago. Ive been saving what I could since then, I could've got a mortgage last year, but I didn't want to buy this house. I live in a cheap part of the UK, so housing is substantially less than many other places. I've found 2 properties I like, neither is perfect, but nothing ever is, you gradually make them perfect for you over time.
I set myself a hard limit for a house of £140k, although I set my Rightmove filter to £150k, just to monitor reductions and similar properties and also I hate to admit, see if there was a property i could make a slightly lower offer on.
House 1 is 120k, needs about 20 - 25k spending on it. The kitchen is dated, the bathroom too and it has what looks like caravan wardrobes in the bedrooms, you know the type. Additionally it has wallpaper on every wall and ceiling, which I do hate. It's a 3 bed 1980s terrace with a small extension on the dining room, big enough to add a sofa to make a sort of day room type space. There is also an attached garage (I don't drive), I guess I could store the fully decorated Xmas tree in there, under some dust cover, so I wouldn't have to faff around decorating it each year. My daughter is almost a teen, so she no longer wants to decorate the tree with her dad 😭 the most expensive house on that street was sold for 120k, 6 months ago and was way more modern inside (also had an extension), so there's probably some scope there for a slightly lower offer. If the bank let me pay 10% deposit I have the money to do the renovations necessary before I move in, but that'll pretty much clean me out, I'd have a small rainy day fund left. The house last sold for 110k, 2 years ago.
House 2 is about 8 years old, it "needs" little doing to it, other than decorating to our tastes and changing a few bits as time goes on. The house is for sale for £150k, which is more than my self imposed budget. The house was a housing association house sitting in a development of around 10 houses adjacent to a main road, only 2 of those have ever sold, 1 being this 1. It sold 18 months ago for 130k as a 3 bedroomed end link. The current vendor removed a partition wall between 2 bedrooms to make 1 massive bedroom. It appears the bathroom has recently been renovated, it looks nice. I personally need 3 beds, as I work remotely and need a "close the door at the end of the day" space, so I'd need that wall reinstating, not a massive job. The loss of a bedroom and a 16% price increase in 18 months perhaps seems a little ambitious and potentially estate agent listing tactics. I've arranged a viewing, but I've kinda done so knowing I won't offer the full amount. I like the house, I could love it once it has my stuff and kid in it and it should be easy to get looking the way I want, over a relatively short period of time, once I've manages to save a little extra, for emergencies.
I'm not in desperate need of either house, the 2nd house is plan A, I won't lose sleep over my offer being rejected, it'd be nice to get it, but others will come along, I still have 6 months here, at the very least, if I want it. The first house could be really nice, I again could love it, but I'd be paying rent and a mortgage for a couple of months whilst I had work done, waited for self-install kitchen & wardrobe deliveries, as well as having a new bathroom fitted. I'd attempt to scrape the paper off the ceilings but in reality I'd get pissed off and pay someone to do it. I can manage with the funding 2 houses for a couple of months, I've planned for that.
For the first house I'd probably offer 114k, the current owner has only changed a bit of lino and in today's market, I don't think it added 10k to the property, particularly when a neighbour sold a better house a few months ago for 120k. I don't wanna short change the seller, but to me, this seems fair. I could spend the 20k+ on nice fixtures and fittings, the potential ceiling of that house's value may not be 140k+, even if I did add nice stuff.
House 2 troubles me, my life would be easier if I only needed to paint and have small aesthetic improvements done, but again, the price. Adding a bedroom adds value, so logic says removing a room must devalue it a bit. If the house was listed for £140k, I'd offer £137k, just because I'd need to pay someone to partition the bedroom, plaster and fit the doors and potentially some new carpet (if current couldn't be fully salvaged). But the house isn't listed at 140k, it's 150k, so offering 138k seems like I would be taking the Michael, so to speak. I don't know how to approach this, I'm normally suspicious of estate agents, this one though is a fixed fee agency, so the selling price has little effect on them, I guess. But perhaps they overpriced it to get the listing? I dunno. I'm not in a chain, I can go as fast as the legal process allows, I have a deposit, excellent credit score and could instruct a solicitor & surveyor immediately after having an offer accepted. I'd be paying a 20% deposit on this place, as the mortgage is higher and other than the partition and a bit of painting it's nice, I'll make it perfect over time.
I'd prefer the 2nd house, but I won't over pay, I won't get into any bidding wars or negotiations for it, I'd like to live there, but not enough to overpay. I'm torn on what to offer, it's only fair the nice bathroom is factored in to the price, in the same way the loss of a bedroom is, but I don't wanna be a dick and offer 10% less, for a job that would cost a few grand, tops. But then there's the huge leap in value, just for a fancy bathroom. Would it be acceptable to offer 5% less? i mean, if it is ambitiously priced, maybe the bank would say "No, it isn't worth it"? It's a little out my budget, but I have a little wiggle room. I know nobody can say what is acceptable to the vendor other than the vendor, but people list houses at a price they want, but presumably accept there are going to be lower offers? I've obviously never sold before, but if I ever do, I'd be prepared for a lower offer and if I wanted a quick sale, I'd consider it. Only the vendor can say "yes" or "no", if they say No, I move on and go with the first house, if they say Yes, they've made a sale.
I know I'm asking for speculation and I know that I'm just gonna get opinions, I'm an indecisive kinda guy, I've dealt with quite a bit in my life and I tend to worry about stuff that could go wrong, so that's why my house price limit is £140k, but I would increase that slightly, for that house. But opinions are sometimes helpful, I'm new to this, I'm doing it alone and the opinions of strangers is slightly more validating than the echo chamber of my own mind :)

2024.05.11 14:26 lindybopperette What can I recycle/DIY before I move to a new place?

Background: I am going to move within the next few months into a new, completely bare place, save for basic furniture and amenities (shower, table, bed, a chair, stove, fridge, washing machine). I am VERY on a budget (as in "I only have money to buy the new place and not much else except groceries") and want to minimize the shopping list of stuff to the bare minimum. So far I DIY'd the following:
I am good with textiles, but draw a blank when it comes to other stuff. I'd love to get tips or suggestions what else can I recycle or DIY, with the emphasis on the "recycle" part. I won't be able to buy anything new really for the next 2-3 years and tbh don't want to. And I really think here about functional, usable items, rather than home decor.
