2024.05.14 04:07 Great_Actuator_9784 Dancer Patricia Douglas Sues Fixers Eddie Mannix of MGM after party 'casting call' and Other Fixers

Article on Other Fixers in Hollywood - Twigger Warnings: threats, fixers, SA
Patricia Douglas was not a name like Loretta Young, and that’s the way she wanted it. The young dancer ended up in Hollywood only because her mother harbored dreams of designing movie costumes.
As David Stenn wrote in Vanity Fair, “she did not drink, date, or dream of film fame.” But she had appeared in musicals for Warner Brothers and Columbia Pictures, which is how she came across an MGM casting call in 1937. While she believed it was for another dancing role in a movie, it was actually for a party.
The party was part of a five-day sales convention to celebrate MGM’s big year. This particular bash, according to the convention schedule obtained by Vanity Fair, was ...
After Douglas arrived at the studio-owned “ranch” with 120 other dancers in short cowgirl outfits, she slowly realized she’d been bused over as a plaything for drunk, lecherous businessmen. One of them was especially interested in her. Douglas found David Ross creepy from the start, and tried to dodge him by escaping to the ladies’ room. But when she reentered the party, he and another man, by her recollection, held her down and poured liquor down her throat. She broke free to throw up in the bathroom and stumble outside for fresh air. It was there that Ross found her, dragged her to his car, and raped her.
Douglas was taken to the hospital and examined by a doctor practically owned by MGM. None of the cops at the party bothered to file a criminal report. Undeterred, she filed a complaint against Ross with the Los Angeles district attorney’s office and took her story to the press.
Mannix, who had been at the party, leapt to defend MGM.
He systematically strong-armed potential witnesses into slandering Douglas.
She was painted as a lying lush, despite the fact that she never drank.
Some who had previously given statements supporting her claims would not repeat them in court. Her criminal case failed, and MGM also succeeded in stalling her civil suit (which named Mannix).
She tried one more time, only for her own lawyer to betray her. There was no other recourse, and her story was effectively erased for decades.
When later asked about Douglas, Mannix supposedly joked, “We had her killed.”
Strickling and Mannix’s fixer days ended in the 1960s.
Another Fixer, Otash:
Due to Otash’s reputation, his sensational stories were often questioned—sometimes by the man himself. Although Otash told associates he rushed to Lana Turner’s home the night her boyfriend Johnny Stompanato was stabbed by her daughter Cheryl Crane, and even removed the knife from the body, Otash dismissed the story in a 1991 interview. “Beverly Hills police chief Clinton Anderson once accused me of..."
**They claimed Mannix read every telegraph and all communications into/out of MGM Studios.**

Whether you are fat, skinny, tall, Short. it's okay let's vent together. I want this to be a free place to talk about all sorts of problems, everyone goes through problems you are just taught how to respond to them, maybe no one taught you at all..Maybe you have to teach yourself, I'm not your therapist and there is no sugarcoats.. It's okay to be real and not baby people that doesn't help.. atleast for some of us.

2024.05.14 04:04 stillunfolding Cat Protesting New Baby

Hi there! I'm a Mom to a 3-month-old baby boy. We have 2 cats: one is a mellow orange (he's doing fine), the other cat is our problem child. I'll refer to him as GB (grey boy).
GB is on meds for anxiety and chronic UTI issues. We can tell whenever he's experiencing a flare-up and we take him to the vet. GB is not currently ill but has been going out of his way to urinate on some of baby's things (a swing, part of the strollecarseat). He will meow loudly and constantly for attention when I'm occupied with baby, but when I'm free he still won't play, cuddle, or settle. He can sometimes get spicy when overstimulated so I never leave him alone with baby unsupervised nor does he sleep in our room at night.
Have any of you experienced something similar? How long did it last and was there anything that helped?

2024.05.14 04:03 Beneficial_Stay4558 31 [M4F] NJ/NY/PA Northeast USA - Looking for a real connection that grows into something great

I'm 31 years old, live in NJ. 5'9", 165 lbs (fit/athletic build) 3rd generation Chinese American (my family immigrated here in the 1900s). My family identifies as American as we tend to eat more pasta than rice and my generation has not learned the language. College educated with a Bachelor's in Biomedical Science (switched from an Engineering major...turns out I don't like theoretical math); currently working in the pharmaceutical industry and pretty much love the industry as there isn't any work drama and it's relatively straightforward yet challenging.
I've tried a few long distance relationships and they're quite difficult to manage...they were great when we able to meet in person and I didn't mind putting in the extra work. I'd be willing to try one if the distance is reasonable and the there is a definite spark between us. I am pretty sure I fit the definition of a demisexual, so I'll be strictly trying to form a connection first. I REALLY need the emotional connection before there is a sexual attraction, mentally I can't do hook ups (they're just really hard for me to handle and I have turned people down).
Personality wise I've been told that I tend to bring people together and keep things fun. I have a few different groups of friends and communities I am often with...and they can vary from the youngsters (21 to 30) to the old guys (60+) to the group that's around my age. I would say I'm pretty good at conversing and I try to stay on top of most current events. Mentally I'm an old man and feel more comfortable in that setting, so much that I literally hang out with 60+ years olds at the gym after a workout in the hot tub. I call them the hot tub gang and it's always a set of regulars where we might talk about the same thing every single day until someone newer to the group says that we talked about it yesterday.
I would say fitness is a major player in my life. I started out hating swimming as a kid, but here I am almost 27 years later...I made it through the lessons at the YMCA, joined a club team, swam in high school, swam in college and now I'm a swim coach and instructor as a hobby/side job in my free time. There's something about being a part of coaching people and watching them grow up and succeed that makes me smile.
My free time in the cold months usually consists of planning DIY projects or working on them. I tend to work on all the cars in the family and am the one that fixes them up or finds replacements for them. Or planning my next road trip to somewhere nicer. Whereas in the warm months I love going down to the beach to go for a swim and have a nice relaxing breakfast outdoors. I do have a few kayaks that I'll bring out to go with friends or if I feel it's safe a nice solo paddle to clear my mind. When I think about it, too many of my hobbies involve water. But I do enjoy things on dry land I promise!
I'm really looking for someone I can grow together with, a long term or forever relationship. I want a relationship where both of us put 100% in all the time and if we don't, we can talk to each other about our concerns and work it out. Honestly what I've realized is that maybe I am altruistic...I miss making someone feel happy and loved, miss the good morning texts, the waiting around all day just to see their texts, I miss spoiling someone and the feeling of that feeling of seeing that look that you get when someone truly loves you. I would love to slowly get to know you by having some conversations where the time just flies, then to a point where we talk nonstop, maybe some in person dates and then maybe eventually settle down together and enjoy life together.
Important stuff: Although I enjoy interacting with kids and it's a major part of my life...I don't want any of my own so...sorry if this is a dealbreaker for anyone. I don't drink (except for maybe wine at special occasions....I get really bad Asian Flush so I'll turn bright red if I smell alcohol essentially lol), not into smoking/drugs (Bad asthma and I'm just not into any of that stuff). I don't judge anyone that's into drinking or recreational drugs, it's just not for me personally. Religion wise, I'm Agnostic. Politically I lean relatively to the left.
I'm really searching for that genuine connection; voice calls are definitely a plus and would love to get to know you. It's alright if we end up just as friends that talk here and there.
If it sounds like you could be the one send me a chat or DM and tell me a bit about yourself. My name is Kevin and I'd love to know about you.

2024.05.14 04:02 LegendNomad Bought an Xbox 360 off eBay and it seems to come with an AV cable, I have a question about image quality

Will the picture output be okay? Asking because I had an experience recently with a PS2 I got from a friend, and I had an AV cable but the picture was so bad that I had to upgrade to component cables which improved the quality. I am aware that the 360 is a generation ahead of the PS2, so I'm curious if I'm gonna have the same "The picture is so bad!" experience with AV cables or if I'll be fine not buying an HDMI cable. Worst comes to worst I guess I could take the one from my Series X and switch it to the 360 when I'm not using it, they'll be connected to the same TV so that won't be hard.

2024.05.14 04:01 Street-Ad3612 Unreleased: "Untitled/Artificial Revelation"

Would love to know everyone's thoughts on the new song that Benson recently teased?!
"Artificial revelations I don’t believe in
That’s why we’re leaving…
Welcome to the generation
Artificial revelations I don’t believe in
That’s why we’re leaving
I don’t know where we’re gonna go
But wherever it is
It’s gotta be better than this
Baby we can run away
Where the streets don't have no names
Wherever it is its gotta be better than this"
Obviously the lyrics are open to interpretation but I can't help but wonder if they reflect his own journey regarding his faith or possibly him leaving the Mormon church. I know he does not often discuss his religion in interviews and without direct confirmation from him, it’s challenging to say definitively.
It could also be as simple as a song about the desire for change. Regardless of the specific inspiration behind the lyrics, it’s exciting to see Benson evolving in his songwriting/addressing broader themes. Can't wait for him to release the full song!! It sounds amazing. Let me know your thoughts!

2024.05.14 04:00 DavidDawnDeluxe When you accept a flaw and remain confident despite it, more attraction and/or respect can be generated than if you lacked the so called flaw altogether!

Hi, David here!
Everyone has flaws and imperfections, either physically or personality wise.
Don’t get hung up on things about yourself which may be unalterable.
Don’t always be trying to overtly hide such flaws. The insecurity shown when trying to hide a fault often comes off as being way less attractive than the actual fault itself.
Obsessively trying to hide a fault highlights a person’s insecurity and shows low self-confidence.
In the cases where the fault could potentially have an impact on your performance, it’s often much more effective to directly address the issue upfront, and call out the elephant in the room as it were.
But for the scenarios where the fault is inconsequential, you could choose to address it instead in a more nonchalant manner. If the fault does not matter to you, why should it matter to other people?
You can joke about your flaws, but do not do so in a self-deprecating kind of way. If you joke about yourself in a self-deprecating kind of way, then you are probably hoping that people will laugh with you instead of just at you. And while perhaps funny, this does not make you look attractive.
However, being able to openly joke about yourself in such a way that you are not simply searching for approval from others, shows that you are truly comfortable with who you are.
You can also re-frame a fault as a positive.
Being overly defensive or qualifying oneself let’s someone know that they have successfully accomplished getting under your skin, which may have been their very intention. Completely ignoring such remarks or either responding nonchalantly or with a joke is often a much better response.
There are actually many benefits to having flaws:
When you accept a flaw and remain confident despite it, more attraction and/or respect can be generated than if you lacked the so called flaw altogether.
Especially if the flaw is physical. Internal confidence is a way more attractive than some external superficial flaw.
If the flaw is blatantly obvious, and yet you conduct yourself as if it has no drastic effect on your self-worth, it shows great self-confidence.
Similarly, if others try to actively attack you over a flaw, but you remain nonreactive, confident and well-grounded despite their provocations, you can come off looking even better than before.
Faults can also allow other people to find you more accessible and relatable. People can’t identify and connect well with others who appear perfect.
And finally, learning to overcome certain shortcoming in life is what allows you to build resourcefulness, character and work ethic.

Adding to that, I just finished putting together my dating eBook "How to Date Any Girl" version 4.0 and would LOVE to get some honest feedback from you!
I decided to give it away for free for the time being.

The eBook is 27 pages long and gives you a practical step-by-step solution to meeting women (15+ years of knowledge put into it).
You can get the eBook by clicking here!

This book is the result of going out and socializing with girls for over a decade. I have put in there all the fundamentals I have learned over that time so I would really appreciate all the feedback I could get!!

What are your thoughts? Do you have any tips to add?
Let's discuss in the comments :)
Thanks for reading and have a GREAT day!

2024.05.14 03:58 MYHIPSDONTLIE- [25/F] Let’s Make Connections!

Hi, I’m a 25-year-old from the Midwest and a Gemini. I’d love to chat, so if you’re up for a nice and deep conversation about nothing and everything I’m your girl! I have been trying to broaden my horizons and meet new people because it’s getting so damn hard to do so being a homebody. I am a full time student and it’s really hard finding downtime for myself. I’m trying to pace things and remember that I matter too! I’m from Asia, but raised in the USA. I love reading (romance and fantasy), dancing to (anything and everything), cooking (my grandma taught me), and music (pop, rap, r&b, etc!). My favorite show has to be FRIENDS (Joey and Chandler all the way baby!). My favorite movies of all time have to be the Harry Potter series! Okay now that’s enough about me! Tell me about you! Message me if you think we would connect. Also it would be nice to know who I’m talking to, so I’d love it if you’d attach a picture. Reddit has taken me on a wild ride into creepy and unknown territory, so I’m always very cautious. Use password: boop , so I know you made the effort to read this whole thing (low energy responses will be ignored!). K byeee! 🤪

My first monster! (adansonii) Would like to put him on a moss pole
HI ALL ☺️ new member here! And pretty new to indoor plants altogether.
After not having windows in my old apartment for 8 years, my first home is now going to be filled with plants, to make up for lost time of course!
I bought this fluffy guy a few days ago and I would love to put him on a moss pole.
He’s got little baby aerial roots coming, so I was wondering when is a good time to give him his pole? Are there any signs that I should be looking for before I give it a go?
(Also put some bamboo sticks in to encourage upward growth in the meantime, not sure if it would make a difference)
Love all the pictures that everyone shares 😌 major inspiration

[25/F] Let’s Make Connections!
K byeee! 🤪

2024.05.14 03:55 timmybonbon [S][USA-CA] Sony 70-200mm 2.8 GM ii, Sony 24-70mm 2.8 GM ii, Sony 35mm 1.4 GM

Hey guys,
-Selling a mint 70-200mm 2.8 GM ii for $2300. Bought new from Samy's Camera, and is free of scratches on the body and glass. Includes the bag it came with, lens hood, box, and manual. Have included pictures to demonstrate. https://imgur.com/a/hYRgNah
-Selling a mint 24-70mm 2.8 GM ii for $1600. Also bought new from Samy's camera, and is free of scratches on the body and glass. Also includes the bag, lens hood, box, and manual. https://imgur.com/a/24-70-gm-ii-5-13-24-7EX28WY
-Selling a mint 35mm 1.4 GM for $1000, also free of scratches on the body and glass, and also comes with the lens hood, bag, box and manual. Bought from Samy's camera as well, I live 30min from the franchise in Santa Ana in southern california. https://imgur.com/a/35mm-gm-5-13-24-JPP0YBg
I also am planning on selling an A7R V body soon as well, as soon as I find the time and upload some pictures of it.
Why am I selling all these? I'm trying to raise some funds to finish paying off my jeep which I've been planning on doing for a while, and getting a rooftop tent, seeing as I've come to enjoy camping a lot more than I do photography. I was originally going to sell all these on MPB, until I found out about this subreddit and thought I'd give it a try. (If I'm doing anything incorrectly, please do let me know)
If you want more pictures, or have any questions for me please do send me a message!

2024.05.14 03:55 Sea-Attention6930 How do you detect the keywords on your website?

Hey, friends! A few days ago, we launched SEOAI. It's a tool designed to detect keywords on web pages and assign them a score, thus aiding you in optimizing your website content. It's free for everyone to use for checking.
Since its launch, we've received a plethora of suggestions, which have been tremendously helpful for improving my website tool. We've taken your advice into account and have made adjustments to the style of the homepage interface.
Moving forward, we plan to introduce a feature that generates articles based on the detected keywords. This feature is currently under continuous development and refinement. How do you feel about this upcoming feature? Do you think it will be helpful to you? If you have any other ideas or thoughts, why not share them with us?
We're all ears, regardless of the topic.
