New to me '05 EX write up
I was carless for the last year (not a huge problem as I can ride my bike just about anywhere in my town) and had been dreaming of finding an Element. Well, the stars aligned and I finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago on a grey with 191,xxx miles. I am not a car guy AT ALL, but with the help of a good friend, I have been chipping away at the known problems generally cleaning her up. Before I get into the nitty gritty, I'll preface by saying that practically everything I've replaced on it was pulled from junkyard elements (RIP). I HIGHLY recommend checking your local Pick-A-Part if you're considering replacing any non-wear parts (i.e. suspension, brakes, etc.).
Here is a laundry list of what I've done so far:
Exterior:
  • Replaced both door hinge covers (cracked)
  • Replaced both cross bars, as the previous ones were bent and missing rubber seals and plastic mount covers
  • Replaced both cracked taillight covers
  • Restored headlights with a kit from Walmart. They were incredibly foggy but now they look near brand new, though next time I'll be more careful not to smear the finish coating
  • Added mud guards
  • Added missing plastic body plugs. The front bumper was basically flapping in the wind prior. Again, I just pulled these things off junkyard elements. They're reusable most of the time!
  • The license plate bolt threads have almost entirely rusted off, so I had to pull the interior tailgate plastic off to add lock nuts on the inside.
  • The front grill (where the Honda badge is) was painted black by previous owner and was chipping off. I found a factory black grill to replace it and it looks much, much better.
  • Applied Toaster Grease to all the exterior plastic trim. I am amazed at how well this stuff works, and it really brought the trim back to life. Highly recommend if you have an older Element! I still have half the bottle left after one coat.
  • A few days after I bought it, one of the headlights went out along with the blinker light. New halogens are pricey but since they come in sets, I have spares which provides some peace of mind for the inevitable. I pulled some taillight bulbs off some others at the yard as well.
  • Passenger side mirror was missing a big chunk of plastic, so I swapped it out for an intact one.
Interior
  • The center control panel was missing a bunch of paint near the shifter, so I replaced it with a black panel off a '08 SC, along with the shifter cover. The black actually looks really nice even if its not original.
  • SEATS. As you know, every Element seat gets the tear on the exit side. Mine were no different. Every single Element I saw at the yards I visited had the same problem, save for one which had already been re-upholstered IN BLUE. I got incredibly lucky with these and I couldn't be more stoked.
  • The spare wheel tray handle had been corroded by a battery(?) and snapped off. Easy fix. The spare well was also very rusty so we wire brushed and spray coated it.
  • My eagle-eyed friend noticed after-market LEDs in the aforementioned SC's overhead lights so I snagged those too. Surprisingly big (free) upgrade!
  • Added random missing small pieces (center console plugs, glove box rubber stopper, so on)
Undercarriage
  • Added a hitch! Super lucky junkyard find. We had to use a chain hoist to get under it. $50.
  • SWAY BAR BUSHINGS. I knew from test driving that there was a loud clunk in the rear suspension when going over manhole covers. We assumed it was probably the control arms and I would bite the bullet. After going through maintenance records, which showed almost fully redone suspension in the last 5 years, and some investigative googling, I put money on the culprit being the sway bar bushings. This is a super easy fix to do by yourself. Unfortunately all the bolts were very rusty and most of them snapped off. Fortunately, they were so rusty that a chisel and a rubber mallet took the stuck nuts and threads off within a few minutes. Added new OEM bushings, and new nuts/bolts, and the sound is knocking sound is completely gone. For anyone doing this, you need 4 m8 corrugated flange nuts, and 4 m8 1.25" flange bolts. Don't even need to jack it up.
  • Popped the infamous P0420 code after a few days. Looks like the original cat had been stolen. We tested the O2 sensors with a multimeter and determined the upstream sensor was underperforming. After reconnecting the plugs and starting the car the code was gone(?). Somehow, someway, I found an intact Denso upstream O2 sensor in the junkyard, so if it ever comes back I have an easy fix.
Electrical
  • Previous owner warned me that there was a parasitic draw somewhere, and the battery would drain after a few days of night driving. He suspected it was the aftermarket remote starter, and some googling would lead me to believe the same. However, my buddy popped out the cigarette lighter and found the worst wiring job he'd ever seen. It seems one of the previous owners was running an auxiliary outlet in the rear and now the red wire was just going to ground. Re-wired a new usb and usb-c charger and I've had no issues so far. Even got to keep the remote starter
Odds and Ends, and What's Next
  • Previous owner covered the hood with bed liner and its chipping off. Rough. Currently waiting for the right weather window to sand and repaint.
  • No back seats and a cut seat rear belt... fine by me
  • Instrument cluster needs some bulbs replaced, plus it need the "Fonz" smack anytime I turn the lights on. Fine for now, I think its charming.
  • It came with a huge Thule box, a little wood shelf bolted to the rear passenger side in the back, as well as reflective covers for every window. Honestly stoked to use these camping.
  • Windshield is mega cracked. Just waiting a little to make an insurance claim.
  • There's a slight shudder when accelerating to 20 mph. I *think* this could be a matter of changing the rear differential fluid based on what I've read, but drop a comment if you have any other ideas.
  • The brake rotors and pads for sure need to be replaced. Don't know how much life they have left.
  • Need to calculate mpg
If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. I just wanted to share the early stages of my Element journey here since I've found so much useful information here and on the other Element forums. Overall, the thing runs great, and I'm psyched to have such a small but mighty vehicle for camping and hauling. I think I'll get another 100k out of her. It was listed for $4800 and I bought it for $4300, and have spent about $500 on it so far. I can't reiterate enough how useful and cheap junkyards have been. PROTIP if it fits in your pocket, its free... While most of the things I've done are QOL and visual, that stuff does go a long way to making it feel like something I'm happy to drive around. If anyone has any advice on other mechanical things I should work on, please let me know!

2024.04.25 21:16 Moist-Toe4574 Hardwired Viofo A119 Mini 2 Has Power But Doesn't Turn On

I just bought a new viofo A119 mini 2 with their HK4 hardwire kit.
When the car turns on, the USB-C tip has power (it can charge my phone) but when I plug it into the dashcam, the dashcam doesn't turn on. Occasionally, on startup the power light will flash for a split second before turning off. I believe I installed the fuses correctly (ACC to a switched 20A fuse, BAT to an always-on 15A fuse, ground to frame).
This made me think the camera itself was faulty, but it works fine not hardwired (i.e. plugged into the car's cigarette lighter port).
Has anyone encountered this issue or have any suggestions?

2024.04.25 11:07 tosernameschescksout Gadgets

No advertising allowed, so no links in discussion.
I've been a guard for about a year now, and I'm slowly building a collection of gadgets that I really like. I want to share, get feedback, and know what gadgets you're using for uniform and car.
Magnetic tipped USB cables. At first, I hated them. I learned you got to keep them clean with a fine toothed tweezer. Now I love them. I can charge all of my stuff off of a portable battery or in my car, and if I need to quickly grab something, the cables harmlessly break away. I.e. they're fast, and protect your charging ports.
Hot/Cold bag. I got a big thermal bag from a grocery store and was surprised to see that they actually work really well. I used a few 2L soft drink bottles that were half filled with ice. Still had ice three days later. The interior was cool enough I could trust it to keep my sandwich ready to eat. Rather than mylar, this one used a thin layer of foam. I like the fact that bags are collapsible so I can stuff one anywhere.
Carabiner clips. I keep a bunch around for 'whatever' because you'll always find a use. Right now, most of mine are helping with cable management because I have 6 USB cables in the car. This lets me pull them through without snagging.
Zip ties: From upper handles to sun visor clips and AC vents, there's a lot of points to create a loop in your car. With zip ties and clips, you can have a lot of places to attach equipment and it will all be fast grab and pretty organized.
My flashlight is zip tied to a swiveling magnet, and I have another magnet zip tied to my sun visor and another in my pocket. The result is a magnetic flash light. No holster needed. It's a slightly less secure solution, but convenient.
Second phone: I do documentation and patrol navigation on one phone, and keep a work app open on my other phone. Having two means much less app switching, better focus, faster interactions. Solid investment. Even a shitty phone will work well as a secondary device for something like maps.
USB charging dock: I have a lot of devices to keep charged, so I got a cigarette adaptor unit that has 6 lines out just for charging purposes.
nano tape: I love this stuff. It's re-usable if you clean it, and it's like a strong holding tape that won't mess up plastic surfaces. I use it in my car to mount stuff like my charging dock into an area of the interior that's out of the way.
Binder clips: Before I had a zippered high visibility vest, it was always blowing open. I'd clip my vest to my coat. Binder clips are great for cable management, and clipping stuff to different parts of uniform or car. E.g. AC vents. I can clip them onto my visors after making zip tie loops on the visors.
Spray bottle + isopropyl alcohol: I use this mostly for sanitation. I want to wash my hands before eating, but I'm a guard. I'm usually away from running water and soap. It's also an effective de-icer in the winter.
Grabby stick: You might have have seen a wheelchair bound person use these to grab a can in the grocery store. I use them when I'm cleaning up a site so that I don't have to touch with my hands. Of course, a box of gloves is also an essential investment.
Flip down shades for your prescription glasses. Life saver.
brush head (just the head part from a cheap broom set. Excellent for cleaning the car)
High vis security vest (Get one with a zipper and D-rings to accommodate a few pieces of equipment. A lot of employers just pass out cheap velcro vests... You'll grow to hate that type.)
wired headset: Just a cheap unit with a boom mic. I do a lot of voice to text dictation and this is better than relying on your phones built in microphone.

Light bars: These make you look like serious business if you leave them on while guarding a site. I've seen guards that don't even turn on their headlights. From a distance though, even headlights don't look like security. A magnetic sign on the side won't stand out, but a light show stands out really well.
Body cam: Fiddling with a phone to record something is way too slow and cumbersome. It's nice to be able to tap a button and know that you're getting a video with audio that shows that any interaction is being done professionally without breaking any rules. People will claim you're the devil. This protects you from lawsuits and headaches. A quick recording is handy for those instances when you have less than five seconds to call out a license place for later transcription. That's not happening with your phone.
Radio: I always work alone, most of us do, but a radio makes it look like you're not. Radios are rare, but you might occasionally interface with someone else that can communicate quick/easy that way.
security badge: Drop a few bucks, look like you have a small amount of authority. People might be more cooperative with requests.
Inverter: Lets you run small appliances in the field. I use a 5G home internet router so that my phones have fast and unmetered data. Sometimes I take my laptop into the field so I can do mobile computing. I know one guy who makes coffee. Some day, I'll upgrade my inverter and get a second battery with an isolator so that I can run a toaster oven for cooking.
Headrest hooks: Really convenient for kitting out your car with other equipment. One of my headrests has a bungee cord going around it which mounts paper towels. I also have ziptie loops on my headrests so I can hook in equipment.
Rain guards: Lets you crack windows without letting the rain in. I'm always cracked so I can hear better.
Cigarettes: Keep up to 1 mo. Handy de-escalation tool. Invite someone to have a smoke... over there, that way.
Tool box: I got a cheap plastic tool box that I load up with actual silverware and a few tools. Beats plastic cutlery.
Kevlar shoelaces
Dash board sticky stiction pad: Keeps your sunglasses and stuff in place.
Backpack. I only ever needed it once, but it was nice being able to carry my gear a mile that way, away from everything, no multiple trips needed.
USB battery bank: Keep your phones going without needing to recharge at a wall or car.
jumper cables. Eventually you or a coworker will drain a battery and need a jump.
Melatonin and zzzquil: Sleep hygeine.
Magnetic security decal: Helps your car act as a deterrent as well as showing police that you're you.
panoramic rear view mirror: See way more. Better driving, better observation.
phone mounts: Try everything. I like magnetic vent clips, but that's what works well for my cabin layout. Having your phone held is huge for navigation.
car ceiling cargo net
conspicuity tape: I'm amazed more guards don't have this on their cars. It really works to not only make you stand out, but make your vehicle look like it shouldn't be tailgated too closely.
USB on the go adaptor or hub: Lets you plug a keyboard and mouse for your phone.
Lock lubricant. Both graphite and WD40 aren't suitable for outdoor locks. Do some internet sleuthing and you'll see people saying, "My locksmith only uses ...." and that's what you buy. My company deals with dozens of padlocks and lube is really helpful to have.
Toilet paper: Stop using whatever it in the portapotties, it sucks.

2024.04.04 19:45 ar3s3ru Rally tower electrical wiring

Hi folks, I'm planning out the electrical wiring on my GasGas ES 700 and I'm looking for some feedback.
I am running the Nomad ADV tower at the moment, and can use the 4 nice toggle switches for different stuff.
What I'm planning on powering on on ignition is:
  1. Navigation tablet (on tower) - this likely charges at 5V
  2. Controller (still undecided on which one, I have a Barbuttons but I'm not too happy with it, maybe I'll build one myself)
  3. USB port + voltage indicator through 12V cigarette lighter adapter
  4. USB port from quadlock for the phone
  5. SAE port for extension (e.g. charger port inside a tank bag or whatever)
  6. Potentially heated grips in the future
  7. Potentially aux lights in front
Outside ignition, undeclose to the seat:
  1. SAE plug for heated vest (don't have one, but I might in the future)
  2. SAE port for extension (e.g. charge battery)
Ideally all the tower connection (mostly ignition-switched) under an externally-exposed fuse box for ease of wiring and access.
I'm thinking to power the fuse box through a 12V-40A relay and attach the pulse pin to ACC2.
Also, I'm thinking of using two of the power switches on the tower:
  1. Main kill switch for ALL accessories, or at the very least the tower-mounted accessories,
  2. Ignition bypass, basically bypassing the relay and going straight to the battery (for emergency situations)
First, does this make sense?
Second, regarding 5V devices: do you think I should have a separate circuit on the tower that basically only uses 5V? Or attach voltage regulators to each instrument?

2024.03.30 17:14 bradyripka Adding Wireless Charging

I have a 2020 Ford Escape SE. It didn't originally have the wireless charging pad in the middle, but I bought that piece from eBay. We installed it and everything works (USB, cigarette outlet, etc.) except the wireless charger. Anyone run into this and find a solution? Not sure if it needs reprogrammed somehow.

2024.03.11 22:25 JohnSMosby Project: Carplay/Airplay/Android Auto smart screen in a 240 (plus bonus antenna content for wagons)

Project: Carplay/Airplay/Android Auto smart screen in a 240 (plus bonus antenna content for wagons)
Another project more or less done. I have spent HOURS seeking a double DIN solution I liked for my 240s. I gave up and used an alternative.
I know I could install one in the lower console position. I use Waze all the time and that would take my eyes off the road for too long and too far (for my taste) and would be tricky to manipulate with the shifter in the way. The upper position has a mounting solution available abroad but I'd lose vents and gauges. (Note: someone has done this and 3D printed some new, different vent outlets, but that's a lot of engineering and I don't want to fundamentally change the car.)
There are now some single DIN touchscreen headunits available, and I spent several hours researching them as well. They are either junk or the size of the screens would interfere with the "ledge" on the dashboard or otherwise look stupid.
I bought Volam 6.25" Touchscreen 4K Dash Cam Front Rear with Carplay Android Auto, GPS Navigation, Music, Full HD Dashboard Camera for Cars, Waterproof Backup Camera Park Assist, Loop Record, Locked Video from Amazon ($139 now, I got it when it was discounted somewhat). It's about the size of an iPhone Pro Max. It has an integrated dash cam in the unit itself and comes with a reareverse dash cam (yet to be installed, has guidelines IIRC), dash and window mounts, 3.5mm aux cable, cigarette lighter power plug (with a USB charger in it; it's fine but rather bulky), and a hard wire harness (to be done; using the lighter for now). The screen has an FM tuner as well, but I have not tried it.
A note on Volam: the email support is great.
On a 240, there are not a lot of great places to put the screen when one plans on using it frequently, so I mounted it on the dash above my radio. I cleaned the spot where I mounted the adhesive with rubbing alcohol. Holding firm so far. The power cord will be re-routed to something more subtle running in the space next to the glovebox when I hardwire it. The small cable is a 3.5mm aux with a 90 degree end, to the headunit (from Amazon - the cable that comes with the screen is a few feet long). Note: the screen has to be positioned more or less straight, otherwise the dashcam view will be skewed.

I have played around with various audio connections - BT to smart screen, then smart screen BT to headunit (ok, but you lose quality and bass gets murky out of my subwoofer); USB direct to headunit, bypassing smart screen (best sound, still trying to work this out to function consistently; Volam confirms on "built-in" ay to do this); and right now I am using Carplay in to smart screen, smart screen to aux out (good, not great sound quality). There are split screen options as well that I have yet to explore (e.g., front and rear cams at once). I am very happy with this - my phone connects automatically when I start it. I hated having my iPhone in the coin tray, sliding around (or off to the floor depending on my driving ;;).
Antenna bonus content for wagons: I recently lost my mast in a car wash. As a rule I avoid them, but the car had been covered with road salt for a week and a half and was going to sit for another week at the shop while I was traveling, so I did it. And lost. Anyway, I bought BOSS Audio Systems MRANT10 Weatherproof Marine Dipole Hideaway Antenna,Black from Amazon ($6.30). Basically just a long, insulated wire. The wagon antenna connection from the head unit to the mast is behind the spare tire (which is behind the big panel on the driver's side of the car), so you can just unplug it and plug in the BOSS antenna. I ran the BOSS antenna cable forward to the black steel vertical pole support/mount for the rear seatbelt, and snaked it up the steel pole to the headliner, holding it in place with small zip ties. You can't even notice it. The antenna must have some vertical in it to work well (I tried using it totally hidden behind the panel and the reception quality was meh.)
Any questions, I'll try to answer them.

2024.03.11 04:53 dragonshouter A video log to the Pact OEA "Not quite a Druid, not quite a Mage"(Krygin Lorepost)

/uw The event happens currently but the video was from before Krygin's 'death' . I guess there is a few swears in here if you care. Sorry ifit's too long lol /rw
It had been several days since Krygin's funeral and Agnur the turtle mage (u/DragonWisper56) was looking through some of Krygin's old things and comes across a soggy cardboard box labeled OEA equipment. Inside was a powered down mechanical spider covered in muck in gunk but in good condition and some files covered in stains. Underneath the files was a book titled "Video Editing for Dummies", the pages were dogeared and covered in annotations. At the very bottom of the box is an envelope intended to be sent for OEA from before Krygin's death. In sloppy lettering it said "First hand visual of the spirit world and it's natives".
The next day Agnur gives the OEA receives a envelope with a mud covered USB in it. After finding a artificer's device to play it on ,the screen or whatever device was used displays the following:
"Is this thing on?" The view point is shook side to side. Out of the corner of the vision you can see mechanical spider legs with hastily scribbled ruins draw on them with mud and cigarette ash. "I know you can operate yourself but I don't know where exactly to stick that USB or if I need a specific model or something. I probably should have asked Kardok when he gave you to me. "
Krygin sighs and it becomes evident the bot and Krygin are moving due to the forest moving in the background. The forest looks beautiful but somehow artificial. The bot's camera turns downward to see both it and Krygin are riding on the back of a mutated dinosaur. This dinosaur is in fact the Slurposaur that the Paliomancer gave Krygin after the battle with Atrax, Bobby the Crude. If you did not know this information it is provided by sloppily edited words appearing in the footage.
"You foolish Humans don't understand anything but taking, the world would better place when you cities crumble. The realm would have been better if you stayed in your caves. All you bring is filth" An elderly elf said with a sneer. He was dressed in a green cloak with golden embroidery holding a oaken staff.
"Fucking Elves standing in the way of progress and causing problems. I've invested to much into this town to have you mucking it up for me." A human mage speaks up wearing expensive purple robes with glittering rings on both hands.
They both stood outside a moderately poor village with wooden walls surrounded by forest. The man stood with his back to the walls and the elf stood in front of him facing the city.
As the camera gets closer subtitles appear telling you this realm is on the outskirts of council/pact/general wizard territory meaning it's sparsely populated( this time the words appear to be carved into the video despite that not being how that works). The two arguing spell casters appear to finally take notice of the approaching Krygin and Bobby by covering their noses in disgust.
The elf quickly turns toward the camera pointing his staff a Krygin, the tip glowing a emerald green. "What are you!" ,he glares mage in purple "Friend of yours? Typical of you to consort with trash"
"Not mine" The man said trying not to gag.
Krygin for his part ignores them, licking his finger checking the wind , making a weird slimy sound, and looking around. He leaned in his saddle to look under the trees into the underbrush.
"Hrrm needs more pollinators and leave eaters", he then grabs a satchel on his waste and and pours it out. Spilling forth is a massive swarm of bees and ants that disperse into the wilderness. "Ya need to take care of your forest better Mr. druid" , Krygin says toward the elf but is partially drowned out by the sound of thousands of wings buzzing.
The elf starts to raise his staff but it is slapped down by one of Bobby's tentacles. The human mage just backs up and has his rings make a bubble around him.
"What is the meaning of this! Why would you pollute this beautiful grove with vermin!! It will take ages to remove them!", the druidic elf shrieked his eyes bulging wide.
"Well good thing for you is you won't have too because if you try I'll just put them back" Krygin said with a smile. "Now if you excuse me, I'm busy. Bobby, hit them if they try and bother me". Bobby casually thumps his tail shaking the ground.
Krygin guides Bobby to a place equidistant from the village and the forest and used his magic to make a mud pool. The two other spellcasters were about to protest when Bobby flopped down into the pool and started lounging in it. Krygin assumed a meditation stance in Bobby's saddle as a dark green and brown mist twisted around his form, the same mist emanates from the runes on the spiderbot. And then the view point is in the spirit world.
This dimension looks like a large expanse of multicolored mist in every direction, and even in directions that don't exist. Krygin is still riding on Bobby but now Booby is floating in the mist but also still in his pool of mud. Krygin picks up the spiderbot and begins talking into the camera.
"Hello fellow wizards of the Pact! Welcome to the Spirit World/Dimension, both are technically correct etymologically. Join me today as I do my job. Recently the forest and village have been having conflicts and I was called in to mediate because Muck can exist inside the city and in the forest so my court of spirts works as a good go between. I thought this would be an excellent way to show the Pact what I do and in a way writing can't convey easily. "
Krygin starts pointing the bot in a bunch of directions to show of the spirit world " See how most of it is mist? That's because any land in the realms has a spirit those areas would be their domain. We are meeting here in the outer spirit world because of neutrality reasons. Most spirits don't hang out just floating so instead like to live in the domain of a spirit powerful enough to create one. You may be asking yourselves what do spirits who don't want to tie themselves to a bigger spirit do. Well they do a slightly different thing. You know the myths of the world being on the back of a giant turtle or giant elephant, though in some realms I guess it is not a myth? Well that cultural association affects the the spirts of those things allowing them to use their own body as a moving domain in the spirit world. Many neutral market places are made like that. Of course other spirts can do it too , particularly strong or protective ones, like tree spirits or rhino spirits. Or ..." Krygin jerks the camera to point at a shape in the distance.
Once it is closer it reveals a giant Hercules beetle with a birch forest on it's back with a quaint house in the center of that forest. As the beetle 'walks' closer two figures come into view on it's back. One is a pale freckled woman wearing an oily black dress. The other is a masculine form wearing purple armor and helm with luscious black hear spilling down the back. He also wears a long gauzy purple cloak.
When the beetle gets close enough the woman hugs/glomps Krygin, or well tries as it is revealed she is entirely composed of peppered moths. Reforming she smiles bright and wide before speaking.
"Krygin!!! I haven't seen you in so long!!" she squeals while spinning around in the air.
"HAHAHA! Pepper I saw you last week." Krygin spoke grinning.
"Yeah, but that's too long" Pepper says in a faux pout.
"Hehe, maybe it is." Krygin conceded. "Is your husband going to join us?"
"Nah, he doesn't particularly have interest in politics and wanted to get some things done around the house. You two can catch up later"
The two friends catch up as the video goes to ten times speed for a bit. Until it returns to regular speed an hour later.
A green glow starts glow comes from off screen and Krygin quickly grabs the bot and points it at the point of origin. To the left of the beetle a grassy knoll condenses out of the mist, taking on a brilliant emerald green color before becoming a solid. Out of the mist comes a stag shaped creature, its coat was a moss green and it's antlers reached upwards twisting around each other and branching off to form a forest canopy complete with leaves. At some point from the creatures skull to the canopy the antlers changed from bone to wood, though it as impossible to determine where exactly that change occurred. From behind it many weaker spirits appeared as attendants but one spirit , though weaker, stood beside the stag as a equal. That spirit was an insectoid humanoid with leaf dress and a crown made of twigs. The spirit looks to be a leaf cutter ant specifically with a large scar across her eye. Words quickly flash through the screen that these are the delegation from the forest.
On the right side of the beetle a blue flash illuminates the area. The mist took a slightly smokey consistency as it formed. The mist on that side forms a stone tower with a mass of lesser spirits attending to it. Stepping forward is a dog shaped spirit. Where on a normal canine there would be flesh was an assortment of sharp metal tightly fitted together. Among the metal is thousands of axe and saw blades hooked together. It's mouth had large sharp metal teeth made of whitling knives and the orange glow of a fire in it's belly. Next to it is a woman made completely out of stained glass. She looks studious with glasses and a tome also made of glass.
The tension in the air is thick as the two sides stare each other. Vines curl around the hill and torches sprout from the tower. The animosity seems to mainly come from the leaders and their assistants. The lesser spirit attendants seem more interested in sprucing up there own little island, just vibeing.
Krigin speaks up trying to cut the tension "Hello everyone! It probably best to start this meeting by introducing yourselves. You called me so you know me but regardless my name is Krygin the Crude, Speaker of the Muck. Here with me is my friend Pepper a peppered moth spirit. I felt like she would be a good go between because her concept is so heavily influenced by nature and cities." As he says this Pepper waves cheerily
The Stag steps forward and speaks in a deep commanding voice " My name is Bough Horn ,the spirit once called Green Horn, I am major domo of the forest. My lord has sent us here to parley because the village has been chopping down trees in the forest". He then turns his head toward his assistant.
"My name is She Who Counts the Falling Leaves and I'm here to keep notes of the meeting and chime in occasionally". Her voice was quiet and nervous unconsciously caressing the scar on her face.
Krygin motions for the village's faction to speak.
The hound prowls forward "My name is The Hungry Blades and I am the spirit of woodcutting in this settlement. My king asked me to meet with you, and yeah I cut some trees what's the problem"
The woman made of glass piped up "Can we finish this quickly, I want to go home. Oh, I guess my name is Christalyn". Christalyn said dismissively. She opens her book and starts writing in it by refracting light within herself to burn words into the book.
The stag furrowed his brow in anger as an unnatural wind blows through his horns "What's the problem! The problem is you are cutting down trees that belong to may master and harming the local ecosystem! Has our foolish hunger blinded you. Is the destruction of my forest worth worth your gluttonous greed!". By the end his voice thundered like lightning splitting a tree.
The ant spirit cuts in to add " Your village is a blight on the natural world!", though it sound like she lacks the conviction of the Stag.
The canine growls while his metal body shrieks as it grinds against itself and the fire within grows and starts spilling out of his mouth. "You act as though your wilderness has never taken what is ours. Your beast would disembowel a villager if they walked alone! Your pest ruin our harvest and those pest bring diseases which rip through the population. What must I apologies for! Cutting a few trees, dozens among thousands!", his blade like body bristling into spines . He then surprisingly calms down and begins again.
"I am a spirit of wood cutting not greed. It is true I hunger but like all hunger what is eaten goes to feed a greater whole. I provide the wood for the walls that keep the people safe. I provide the wood that houses are built out of. I gather the wood to burn in the hearth. Without that wood the fire could not be lit. Without that fire people would freeze in the cold nights and during long winters. Without that fire food could not be cooked and the citizen's would starve". He lets out a smoke filled sigh. "I have no desire to damage the forest but I will do what I need to to ensure the survival of the village" , he stated with great conviction.
Krygin cuts in awkwardly "Ok it seems we have got to the root of our problem. For the village to live, it needs to cut wood but cutting wood damages the forest. I think we might be able to come to some sort of compromise". He pauses for a second and turns toward She Who Counts the Falling Leaves and says "While I understand you want to protect your home villages and cities are technically not unnatural"
Krygin continues " I once had a discussion with an elder tar elemental about mortals and their place in nature. Part of that conversation touched on whether cities where natural or not and the conclusion we came to was yes. Humans and other sentients building there settlements is no different than ant building a nest". When he says this he looks pointedly at She Who Counts the Falling Leaves. "Though this may be partly influenced by my biases I believe neither nature nor technology should be dominant. I am the speaker for the Muck, for the impure, to be truly impure nothing can overpower it's opposite otherwise it is purely one thing. Even impurity cannot be dominate because then the realms would be purely impure, ironically making it pure. I believe we can come to a balance if we work together".
-------------------------------------
The video then turns to high speed as it skips past hours of meticulous negotiations about the amount of trees that can be cut and what kinds. It was mostly a verbal agreement but both sides wrote down the agreement anyway. When the video slows down it seems the conversation has shifted topic to a more casual one.
Krygin inquisitively asks " I noticed two wizard hanging around here one was a regular mage looking dude and the other I think was a druid. Have they been bothering you? They didn't seem to be... the most pleasant people".
Surprisingly She Who Counts the Falling Leaves was the one to respond. When she spoke her her voice was overlayed with the chittering of insects " That motherfucking druid killed most of my ants!! I hate him!!"
At the edge of the camera Pepper just blinks and writes a note to herself, mouthing 'note to self kill the druid from She Who Counts the Falling Leaves's forest'.
Christalyn chimes in " I feel that. The mage who lives in town is an absolute asshole. He's the richest man in town and a wizard so he acts like he owns the place".
Krygin just sighs "Wizards are complicated. Many mean well and I have friends among them but some are arrogant assholes. Worst part is when two are fighting but both have the best intentions, that's when tragedy occurs. Though I am surprised how many asshole druids that exist. Those guys usually only care about nature on a surface level. They only care about trees, no offence Bough Horn, and their beautiful glades and groves. They forget all the 'unsightly' things that keep nature going!"
Krygin sighs " I'll see if my friends in the Pact can get those guys to straighten out. With that said I think our meeting is over. I thank you all for being here and hope we can all coexist peacefully".
After that the two islands of the factions dissipated taking their residents with them. Krygin then walks over to Pepper and gives her a hug, or as much of a hug that you can give when one person is not quite solid.
"We'll have to meet up later. I should be free after the thing that's happening with the Bismuth realms. That good with you?"
"That will be great, see you around", Pepper said before flying off.
Krygin looks into the camera smiling " I think that will be all for now. I'll see you in my next video... " The video then cuts to a screen saying [insert outro] before shutting off.
/uw OH MY GOD this took way too long to write. I started writing it before Krygin's death! I started over two weeks ago! I was sick but still! The Paleomancer went to hell and back faster then I wrote this! Would you believe that the part with the wizard and the druid took the longest for no good reason. I still don't know why it was so hard to write.
I made it a video so I had a reason to exposit more. Maybe a little too much but I needed the information told for things I'm going to do later. BIG THANKS to Agnur who badgered me to continue writing and helped me set things up. Tell me if there is anything to improve this is the first time I have wrote something this big before.[ Also yes I made a asshole druid OC becuase most druids on the sub actually respect the gross parts of nature.]
Greatly inspired by John C. McCrae's Pact and Pale for spirit lore.

2024.03.02 23:55 tobeknown_1979 2023 EX-L Empty Divit in Rear Seat Console

2023 EX-L Empty Divit in Rear Seat Console
I own a 2023 EX-L (highest model). I’ve always wondered what the purpose of this divot is when your seated in rear looking at the front center console.
It looks like it was maybe intended as another USB port, cigarette lighter (12V), heated seats, or ventilation control that was ultimately scrapped for this model. My only other guess is that it’s a piece used on another class (e.g., CR-V, Civic, Accord, etc.) that was retrofitted for the HR-V. Because I know of no other reason to have an empty section of the console for the highest tier model of the HR-V.
Was something added to the 2024 model? Maybe as an optional accessory?

2024.03.02 10:48 mudderfudden DMX907S - What USB options can I add?

I had a DMX907S installed into my Toyota Sienna 04 a couple of years ago. I'm not really sure how it's hooked up, but basically, I also had a two-port USB adapter installed (see link below), replacing one of my cigarette lighters.
What are my options for adding a hard drive to this? I want to add storage for music, basically. Heat would also be a concern, as I live in Southern California. It's been known to get over 100 degrees for at least a couple of days of the year, but heat waves average in the 90s.
Could I add something like this to another USB port from my unit? Are there available ports or would they have been taken up by the double USB adapter I'd mentioned?
My current situation is this. I have a thousand CDs, I've ripped them all in WAV format, and I listen to them as I drive. I had them on a MicroSD card, 1 TB, but I'd recently upgraded my phone, and new phones do not have this MicroSD slot, unfortunately. I did get the 1TB version of the Samsung S24 Ultra, but this isn't enough storage. I'd like to keep my music in uncompressed format.

2024.02.03 13:41 obblonge Dress Bites Dog by The Prophet Obblonge

Opening Fruity Loops, I'm not feeling the background pic. I change it to an image offa nude woman reclining onna draped armchair with a smoking pistol in her left hand, her right holding a lit cigarette strategically in front of her crotch from the viewer's perspective. An outstretched, presumably lifeless hand and arm lays on the floor from off camera, the subject of her gaze. Its by the artist 1019.
One must constantly redecorate the GUI when staring at screens for any length of time. No matter what your DAW, grey is the color of music. Lest it be stark extremes etching college ruled throughout the evening's vista.
Innan ever evolving quest to avoid any more repetitive hand injuries I have assigned mouse duties tooa Logitech USB video game controller with the valuable assistance of JoyToKey v64. The POV and the right joystick are dedicated to moving the mouse at different speeds. Currently using two monitors, so one does the long distance and the other finer, close-up precision. The left joystick is the scroll wheel, making navigation on the playlist and piano roll simpler still. The software that came with the controller glitched when I'd assign mouse duties tooit. Would get stuck continuously going left. JoyToKey does not, and offers an even more ridiculous degree of button customization. Currently I can open, close, minimize, maximize all five main window functions in 'Loops, including the browser from the controller. I usually use two three-button footpedals to do that, but there isn't allot of room at the moment. Also start/pause/stop playback. When in Windows I use a Galaga ship assa cursor. It feels natural to use the gamepad, almost no learning curve despite not having owned a gaming console since the Sega Genesis.
Retrieved my Acoustic Research tower speakers, from Poland, I've read, from my property. Along with my prized '82 or '83 Sansui AU-D7 amplifier. The neighbors downstairs are enjoying their speakers. There is music coming the bedroom's open door up here. I may as well add my cacophonous noises. It's Saturday, my electronic sundial informs. Daylight is out but going down. Wish I was making that motion...
Opening the project briefly begun before slumber, titled Evolution Of Hearing, I refresh the information up on deck. Playlist has one long track of vox, divided into three sections originally and then further sliced into smaller pieces. About 7mins50secs offa text to speech program reading selected sections offa research paper from a Canadian university published in 1994: Detection Of Airborne Sound By A Cockroach ' Vibration Detector ' - A Possible Missing Link In Insect Auditory Evolution. The synthesized voice is quite good compared to the standard Microsoft ones, an artificial female with an artificial United Kingdom accent. I had been throwing effects on the mixer channel its assigned to with satisfying results. Whenever I decide to start adding other sounds the vox will be nicely complimented with any number of manipulations. Having been generated completely in the box, there is no background hiss or other leaked sounds from using a microphone to record. The voice floats pristine through the headphones fromma black point of space, beautiful in their detachment both from humanity and natural environment. Perfect for their task of describing with detachment the helium-oxygen-carbon dioxide baths of cockroach cyborg modifications.
The subject matter is uncommon, lending itself to being read by something that has expressly uncommon pronounciations, diction. Some minor text editing before rendering tooa recorded track yielded results with an even more jolting cadence; a halting start/stop lurch when latin species labels or mechanisms thereof are described. Immediately the 35 page document becomes tedious and clinically bizarre innits exacting descriptions of removing cockroach legs and attaching sensors and probes. The listener will have to imagine the many detailed diagrams themselves.
Soon I began to further edit, using clusters of joyfull words excised instead of whole sentences: Others have reported difficulties in conditioning cockroaches. But if the energy input needed to produce some criterion response could be determined for both modes of excitation a comparison of the relative sensitivities could be made in common units ( pronounced ooonits ). There is no evidence. There is no known basis for controlled adaptation. Indirect evidence suggests, by contrast, members of the cockroach family emit a variety of acoustic signals through strigellation, ring-scraping or whirring, hissing or drumming, presumed to be bee-have-your-alli significant. And rich. In one case, was sufficient to frighten off row-dents. Even those with Minoxidil in their urine streams. ( I added that line. ) A more appropriate behavioral context may remain to be discovered. Almost any arousing stimulus produced sub threshold excitation of many functionally unrelated muscles. The oscillatory response might be a product of selective tuning and vibration. There will then be nothing. Achieves respectably low sound thresholds, suggesting that our current investigation of the manner of sound entry into a cockroach leg might illuminate the evolution of hearing.
I decide to declare the vox performance finished. Its rendered, and enjoyable assis with surprisingly few undecipherable word blobs. Eccentric innits delivery but just as competent as anyone I've recorded live, including myself, especially considering the technical nature of the source text. The preceding is the last minute er so of dialogue. Using the slice tool on the playlist will further separate the syllables, already being recited atta slower pace than the standard speed, into more profound pauses, cliffhangers of portent. These are exciting times. Celebrate and be awash in your revelry.
The background image changes tooa snapshot offa tiled, ruined bathroom innan abandoned insane asylum not to far north of San Antonio off 281. Blue spray paint tag on powdered offwhite, broken institutional toilet seats stark in contrast. Image diagonal.
Its the next day, or maybe even the next next day. Dawn encroached, with sensorious cyborg limbs. Will be talking tooa buyer's lawyer this afternoon, and perhaps tomorrow will have any small amount of cash from the property's rescue and private sale. A tentative plan has emerged that will satisfy all my requirements as I defined them. My generous and gracious hosts are getting evicted any day now and its about that time. It has been quiet enough to acceptably record here not even a handfull of times, so with maybe two or three days left I've rearranged the equipment for greater usage. A large plastic tub container - something one would store a bedspread or similar in - is being used assa larger absorbtive shield for the condenser mic. The mic stand has been switched out from the boom to the desktop mounted scissor one, which holds the shockmount in the center of the tub that has open celled foam lining it. The semicircular mic shield that was in use is too heavy for the scissor stand, but the pop filter is still between me and the windscreen. This is sitting onna chair with a broken leg. The Tombstone build is on its side, vinylized and mass loaded black and heatshield foil on the lower shelf offa crumbling, water eroded MDF two tier shelf. Two monitors are on the upper plank, and this is directly behind a plastic school desk that was sitting next tooa dumpster. The Razer keyboard is glowing shiftily innits compartment. Desk's surface issa field of knobs, sliders, and mainly LED lit velocity sensitive buttons. The dedicated FL Studio Fire controller - slightly more than a hundred custom colored buttons and a few knobs. AKAI MIDImix, nine slider controls that can be shifted to act as mixer tracks 1-8, 9-16, 17-25 etc plus Master channel. Almost thirty assignable knobs above them. Korg nanoPad2. Mine was forty dollars cheaper because its white and apparently it was the least popular color this thing came in. I didn't like it either, so I spray painted it metallic silver and painted the 16 velocity sensitive drumpad/buttons with glow in the dark paint. Most of that has peeled off since from use. The game controller and trackball mouse, this one much heavier than the previous model - one could use this assa weapon - and cooler looking, with a grey sparkle ball.
A blank keyed programmable twenty-two button glowing blue controller, with four levels of programmabilty forra total of 96 functions or macros. Its made by a company named Koolertron and actually works assits supposed to. Nothing ever does that, especially when connected to a computer. I was one of the first to purchase one and since then they've gone up in price slightly and have had a number of variations added to the product line. After years, mine is still glowing away and doing the things.
On the floor are two three-button footswitches. One is plastic, light, and feels kinda flimsy, though it has also lasted years of me stepping onnit, not always too gently. The same model and others are still available for sale where I got one, the Amazonians, though they've also gone up in price. I like to think that the celebratory review I penned forrit caused a sudden inrush of demand. It also is still being employed because its one of the few things that functioned and kept doing so. So few of those. It says Foot Switch FS-3P onnit and the software allows a wide, useful range of functions. Sitting next tooit is the same, heavy, metal, mechanically loud three button footswitch I controlled a cassette transcription machine with 26 years ago. Only this one hassa USB at the end for controlling dictation software. Its been labelled a Pedable now and offers two levels of easily programmable button assignment. Did I mention its loud? And industructible as long as feet are the only attackers. It will not shy away from steel toed boots; you jump onnit like a wah pedal. If barefoot toes may be bruised. Two of the switches are, formerly FFD and REV, smaller and kinda inconveniently so. Unless you are wearing shoes, then you can stomp onnit until you eventually hit it. I got mine on eBay for $15USD offa list that mainly wanted a hundred or more forrit.
One of the monitors is also a touchscreen, formerly part of a POS display. That functionality is accessed by plugging a separate USB-B cable into it. The next mission is to attempt to use it assan input with stylus for the creation offa font from my handwriting. I tried to use it before this way, but although the screen was seeing all the movements as such, nothing was responding. Usually this issan operator error. So. Another investigation.
Earlier this morning, about 4am, I hooked up my speakers and for three hours played fun sounds for the crowd assembled and probably the neighbors. The object of this exercise was the amusement of myself at possibly the expense of others. Others that, it should be mentioned, have treated me at similar hours previous to entire albums by the bands Creed and Nickleback. Even that guy from Staind alone and acoustic. I paused the fun when someone would wake up, maybe take a piss or drink some water. Mainly carefully intervalled hi-def recordings of flatulence. Add reverb to taste. Some belches. Laughter. Whispers. I am never bored, and no, that isn't passive aggressive. That's aggressive. A thank you to Chris Brown, the author and performer of the 1000 Winds project for his invaluable assistance. Pay attention Alanis, that is irony.
The vox track is chopped up into more palatable bites. Adding Fruity Loops' Vintage Chorus gives a sinister Alien countdown to self destruct quality to the artifical recitation. This doesn't feel like something rhythmic in my head. Auditioning samples of radio static and other broadcast elements noisy and energetic at all levels. The words are existing and being responded to by the air that surrounds them as they are beheld, found meaningfull, and applauded in full spectrum by the possibilites inherent in atmosphere. If this is destined, the dialogue will be pared down word by word to leave only the most necessary components needed to convey the - is thissa message? Orra transmission of longing and intention and impatience boiling into the frigidity of interstellar spaces. Whatever it is revealed toobe, one can be assured a female is involved. Brunette at birth. Confident in her head, and in some interactions in some special episodes. Quieted by repression, held back and down invisibly. There is overarching toxicity in these omnipresent syllables. They are speaking directly to me. I'm special as well, by myself and to her. Get off the starship, the whispers underneath urge. Don't slow down to save anyone else. You know there isn't enough escape pods anyway. Hurry, love. There isn't much time remaining.
Thirteen individual tracks of various white noise. Each manipulated by EQ and either the Fruity Love Filter or Gross Beat. Several have Cryogen. The entire collection running through Distructor, Molot, and Valhalla Supermassive. Rendered. Labelled Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is added to the playlist on Evolution Of Hearing. Its volume is automated so that it rises up shortly after the words grip one's cortex, and stays low. The entire rendered droning is about a minute and a half, which leaves plenty of room for more audiations. Just woke up. Leaving the screens full of parallels and jumping obfuscations, I seek my footwear to tread across the street to the post office.
I once was raided by seven postal officers wearing flak jackets, guns drawn, because a chick who was renting a room from me had been ganking mail. Do not fuck with the post office. A former firefighter that I had an exciting weekend fling with told me that iffa police cruiser, a fire truck, an ambulance, and a postal carrier all come tooa four way stop at the same time with their lights on and sirens blazing, the post office has the right of way. Because they could be carrying a bomb. I had to ask her to leave on the third day. On the way out the door she actually yelled, " You'll never find another woman like me! " Which reminded me offa comedian I saw on Evening At The Improv when I wassa kid. Iffi don't like you, why would I want someone just like you? I declined the option to follow her out the door and relate this. She had purchased over $300 worth of groceries with her foodstamps, filling my refrigerator before she began planning our inevitable marriage and relating the tales of multiple rapes and her obsession with guns and personal safety. And yeah, you have to go. And yeah, actually I'm pretty sure I'll find someone else who " sucks your dick like I do! " Which I also declined to mention. Declined to remember her name ( see above ) so pardon the reference to her as Firefighter Chick if you will. Shitgoddamnmotherbitch. Slightly more than annan hour to walk across the street and maybe receive a money order that maybe I can cash at the same location. Maybe. Hey, its 4:20.
Post officials indeed present me with a money order, one purchased from the post office, but regret to inform me they have no the cashish to trade me forrit. Alright. WallyWorld down the street tells me just plain no, we don't want that. Walking farther down and crossing the street I find a synonymous with quick predatory loan shark who takes $20 out for themselves. Alright. Now I need to load most of this onna debit card. I have three or four to choose from, don't care which. Reluctantly returning to WallyWorld I see their customer service line is interfering with their customer checkout lines. Requiring nutrients, shortly I am filing along with the checkouts. Smarter greens has expanded their product line to include the worst tasting Starburst©®™ ever. Vitamins and minerals and questionable non-standardized amounts of ground plant roots with asterisks in the recommended daily allowance stats. I like seeing asterisks there; it means there's experimental stuff with the usual amounts of body building blocks. Research and development. After noticing the possibility of nutrition collected in my cart I pace rapidly to the other side of the store and grab a two dollar quart of store brand ice cream and two packs of Camel 99s. Different faces populate the financial services line but it stretches the same length from the counter. Nah. I can go to the 7-11 next to the compartments and load up cashapp there.
No. I can't. They tell me. We don't do that here. You gotta go somewhere else, probably anywhere else with the same sign out front except this one.
Well alright.

UWELL CALIBURN AK3 PODS KIT IN UAE
The Uwell Caliburn AK3 pod vape kit is a little alternative that comes in the shape of a matchbox. For MTL (Mouth To Lung) vaping, it is easy to use and produces a little amount of vapor. You can vape for longer on a single charge thanks to the included 520mAh battery, and USB-C fast charging enables the kit to charge completely in only 15 minutes. This kit is inhale-activated, so you don’t need to utilize any buttons or menus. Instead, simply breathing through the mouthpiece is all that is required to start vaping. In order to provide a vape that feels more comparable to smoking a cigarette, this kit generates less vapor for an MTL inhalation.

Features of the Uwell Caliburn AK3 Pod Kit:

  • Uwell Caliburn AK3 brand, 1 set
  • Materials: Aluminium Alloy with PCTG
  • 67.5 mm x 44.1 mm x 12 mm E-liquid Dimensions Contains 2 ml.
  • FeCrAl Meshed 1.0ohm Pod Specification: Maximum 13W Output Power Battery capacity for the Caliburn
  • A3 refillable pod is 520mAh.
  • Gift box packaging
The UWELL CALIBURN AK3 pods’ top-filling design, allows you to fill them with up to 2ml of your favorite e-liquid, making topping them off simpler than ever. The mesh coils included inside the device will quickly heat up your e-liquid to enhance flavor. You won’t have to worry about messy coil changes because the entire pod can be replaced. To get the best results, we suggest using a 50% VG e-liquid or a higher PG choice with the two 1.0 Ohm resistance coils in your pods.

Packaging Contents:

  • Caliburn AK3 Refillable Pod (spare) 1 Caliburn AK3 Device 1 Meshed 1.0
  • Silica lanyard, first
  • 1 – User Guide
  • 1 Caliburn AK3 Refillable Pod (pre-installed), Meshed 1.0
There aren’t any buttons or menus to utilize since this kit inhales. Instead, to begin vaping, inhale via the mouthpiece. With each MTL inhalation, this kit produces less vapor, producing a vape that is more reminiscent of a cigarette. This kit’s preset power output also guarantees a constant vape each and every time, even when the battery is depleted.

2024.01.17 17:27 SixStarz6 This one deserves its own posting.

Sorry for the cross post. I posted it in another prime posting. But thought it deserved its own post. Until about mid year last year I maybe had one or 2 problems with Amazon. Ever. After that, every problem just about that is posted here I have had. Wrong item, counterfeit, BS on same day shipping or next day shipping. Having to fight for a return. Only thing I did not get was an empty box.
So here was my breaking point item.
My last problem that led me to order a part on eBay. And quit Amazon. I ordered a name brand usb-c cigarette lighter replacement for my wife’s car. First time sent the wrong one. Returned it. Had them TRY to send the right one. No dice. Sent the exact same wrong one. Took me two weeks to get all the Amazon stuff resolved. I just returned it. This was one of the items that was same day or next day sipping. Meaning this should have been resolved in less than a week. So I bought it on eBay and had it in one day. The correct item. And the hilarious thing was…………..
It was fucking dropped shipped from AMAZON!!! It came in an Amazon package. Like it came from Amazon. I was so confused. Until I did some sleuthing and it turned out to be from eBay. Drop-shipped from Amazon. Just fucking wow. And it was less money than from Amazon

2024.01.16 04:51 Dezzy25 Revisiting the Leaks: Gameplay Mechanics Only

I decided to look over the leaks again and took note of the things seen strictly from a gameplay perspective (no story, map, or dev data analyzed). It’s important to remember a lot of these mechanics could be drastically changed / removed by release or they are just placeholder functions from GTA V and RDR2. Anything that is a hypothesis I denoted with a “?” at the end.
Player NPC Interactions (options change based on proximity?): - Hostage: (△) Rob / (△) Restrain / (O) Threaten / (O) Melee - Staff: (△) Rob - Police: (△) Surrender - (R1) to alternate interaction menu between Jason (while controlling Lucia) or Police
Prompts / Objectives: - “Time until cops dispatched” / “Cops arriving” - “Rob the diner” / “Rob the cash register” / “Escape the diner” - “[Vehicle name] discovered” —> ability to discover things like RDR2 Compendium - “Robbery” —> “CCTV: Recording” / “DoorPanel: Locked” - “New Contact: [Name]” - “WhatUp! message received.”
Player Gameplay / Interactions: - During robbery (controlling Lucia): “Tap (R1) to check in with Jason, or hold for more options” - Upon entering Police Cruiser: “Tap d-pad left to access vehicle controls menu, or hold d-pad left to bring up the quick options” —> more in-depth car options beyond radio and horn / sirens, on-board computer access for police vehicles? - “(△) Open Container” —> cut open shipping container lock to steal contents - “(△) Stash Cash Stack” —> put money stack in Loot Bag - Jason “Eagle Vision” for identifying robbery valuables and CCTV cameras - Individual and shared inventory - Weapons / Equipment / Gear selection wheels (there are various iterations of selection wheels shown throughout the clips but the most in-depth clip described below): - Primary and Secondary Hand Slots to equip weapons and/or equipment in each hand individually —> ability to swap handedness while holding weapon - Loot Bag (“Duffel Bag” - implies different bag types?) —> “ (Y) Inspect” / “(B) Back” —> actions to “Drop” (entire bag?) / “Select” (contents?) / “Close” - Quick item usage with d-pad? —> Trauma Kit (Up), Painkillers? (Right), Parachute? (Down) - “(△) Take Assault Rifle” - pick weapon up off the ground (holsters sidearm) —> ability to “quick drop?” weapon in use by pressing right stick or “(X) to drop” while highlighting the weapon in the wheel - Functional holsters? - police officers actually draw sidearm from hip - Spent magazines remain lying on the ground - Ability to stand / crouch / go prone —> shoot over cover even while standing - Crouch height while taking cover is variable depending on the height of the cover, rather than a pre-set crouch height - Arms / long weapon used to cover face while taking fire - Personal vehicle icon appears on map (implies vehicle ownership like in GTA V?) - “Switch to Lucia (hold? down on d-pad)” - “Dive (RB)” —> while swimming - “Throw (B)” hold? —> ability to throw injured/dead NPCs off your back while carrying them —> enhanced stealth mechanic and/or buddy co-op system? - “(△) Gumball ($)” —> while standing in front of gumball machine - Ability to sit as a passenger in a non-taxi vehicle —> NPCs (i.e. Jason / Lucia when not player controlled) can drive player to desired destination / another form of Fast Travel? - “(X) Pick Up” —> appears when walking by drink can on the ground, interaction “circle” also appears over glass bottle lying in grass in later clip —> ability to pick up random objects off ground like in GTA IV?
Weapons: - Melee: - Knife / Baseball Bat / Pool Cue - Thrown: - Grenade / Flashbang / Smoke Grenade / Fire Bottle / Molotov - Handgun: - Pistol - Glock 19 / Polymer Pistol - HK P2000 / Beretta Px4 Storm (Combat Pistol from GTA V?) - SMG: - Micro Submachine Gun / Compact Submachine Gun - Shotgun: - Pump Action Shotgun - Rifle: - Rifle (Plus concealable) —> appears identical to the Assault Rifle, perhaps an earlier dev build name for same weapon - “Concealable” attribute for weapons is interesting because it implies not all are (which makes sense) and there is a dev override for a long rifle in the clip? - Assault Rifle - M4 - Unknown in-game name - AK-47 - LMG: - Heavy Machine Gun - Sniper: - Sniper (Plus concealable) - perhaps another earlier dev build name for one of the same rifles listed? / Hunter Sniper / Bolt Action Sniper - Misc.: - Rocket Launcher / Speargun - Ammo: Rocket, Heavy, Sniper, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol, Spear
Equipment / Gear: - For exploration / casing robbery targets?: - Torch Flashlight - Flashlight - Binoculars - For stealing vehicles?: - Slim Jim —> perhaps needed to steal average / common vehicles? - Immobilizer Bypass —> allow you to bypass factory security systems when installing remote start and keyless entry systems in vehicles —> perhaps needed to steal higher-end vehicles? - Tracker Jammer —> perhaps needed after stealing higher-end vehicles to avoid police tracking the GPS? - For breaking into restricted areas?: - Lockpick - Crowbar - Cut-Off Tool - For hacking?: - USB Drive - Auto Dialer - Golf equipment (assume clubs can be used as weapons too but very likely that golf mini game returns from GTA V?): - Golf Ball —> interesting this is an inventory item, perhaps can be thrown as a weapon or used as a distraction in a stealth scenario? - Golf Putter - Golf Wedge - Golf Iron - Golf Driver
Food & Consumables (will health / stamina / special ability cores return?): - Soda - Wine - Fruit - Trauma Kit —> provides full health regeneration? - Cigarettes? —> not specifically named but image in clip is quite obvious —> used to increase stamina at the sacrifice of health? - Painkillers? —> not specifically named but image in clip is quite obvious —> provides temporary or small health regeneration?
Vehicles: - Police Cruiser - Ford Taurus Police Interceptor (re-used asset from GTA V) - Maibatsu Sanchez (livery) - final game will describe livery in vehicle’s name if applicable? - Karin Rebel - Highly detailed interiors that are extremely customizable (sun visor, mirror, seat, steering wheel, etc. positioning —> likely just dev tools?)

2023.12.31 20:37 swiftcloudceo Clever layout for small vans

Clever layout for small vans
The Vandelorian https://youtu.be/vftfwRAkA0M
kitchen drawer out the side. if I keep it will gull wing the main side door, instant awning.
Excellent for solo van life, music festivals, weekend adventures, youtubers…
The Ultimate YouTuber Adventure Van, or Full-Time #vanlife rig, or overland nomadic living. Get starlink internet and hit the road!
Everything you need to plug in and go can be optionally included: Recovery kit (i.e. if you get stuck in mud or sand), power, extra gas can, water cans, 10-day high-end cooler and/or optional dometic fridge-freezer combo - you name it. Dozens of tiny details - velcro’d level.
2002 Ford Econoline e-250 base; corporate owned (Disney Radio); was very well maintained + licensed as commercial vehicle (CA smog exempt). Purchased in Los Angeles, currently in Charleston, SC / licensed in CA but can be licensed in CA.
119,000 miles; mostly highway - was used as a mobile radio station. Had minor seals drying out from sitting, since fixed. Very well maintained (by Disney radio) and runs like a top.
Body: Vehicle was originally wrapped, so main body = mint condition, zero rust (CA / non-coastal), except the roof; water got under the wrap and was mitigated in most places - navy oil, grinding out, bondo in 2 places. Stable and will last many years except 1 area passenger-rear, which I’ll grind, bondo paint prior to sale. Alternate: Buyer could put a high-top (i.e. handicap van roof, allowing you to stand up) or pop-up roof (Sportsmobile style) on it. Entire body is painted with Raptor liner, bottom panel is Herculiner (truck bedliner). Bushwacker Wheel Flares. Upgraded headlights.
Tires: 33’s - 32.8” / 285s technically with a tiny spacer adding about ½” height + ¼” offset (wider stance) for near-factory performance but a slightly more aggressive stance + higher ground clearance. Tires are still about 80% tread (new in 2021; used recreationally only since then for a handful of local road trips, music festivals)
Build: Carefully researched and hands down my favorite small-van layout I’ve ever seen. Sliding side door with awning. If I keep the van, I’ll gullwing the big side (sliding) door for instant shade + cool factor.
Full kitchen: overland-style large kitchen drawer-slide with 3-burner propane stove, large sink with running water (electric pump, not foot pump), pantry area under a cutting board. Wood stove-cover serves as wind-cover + backsplash + has a light (for cooking at night). 2nd drawer for silverware. Soap dispenser, paper towels holder. 6 Gallon water tank; simple bucket for greywater.
House “Hotel” Battery: Jackery 1000 (new Feb 2023, still under warranty, works perfect) tied to all hotel functions (so you won’t kill the vehicle battery). Can be charged 4 ways: (1.) Driving (alternator cigarette lighter wired to under-closet rear wheel well area) (2.) Shore power (ext. Plug passenger rear corner, so can be stealth-plugged into any 110 AC), (3.) Solar (ext cord included; note you often want the vehicle shaded but panels in sun, so non-mounted = recommended), or (4.) remove the jackery entirely and bring indoors (recommended for cold weather).
Storage: A lot for an E-series van: rear closet, built in dresser (can also function as a 2nd desk) with 3 drawers + large upper cabinet + lower cabinet. More than we need for weekend adventures, and suitable for full-time van life.
Dozens of small thoughtful pockets, storage-nets, hooks throughout the van. Lots of lighting, USB outlets. 2x USB fans, phone chargers, etc.
Bed: Queen with slide-out, or ½-queen (cot mattress, 30” wide; easy to buy sheets etc). Ideal for 1 person, gets cramped with 2, but can be done. I snore sometimes, so I give my wife the nice bed & tent it usually unless super cold. Bed does extend out for 2 people, but you have to move the cooler or refrigerator. 6x storage bins under the bed.
Toilet: Never used, but 100% ready (good for boondocking / off-grid or emergencies): toilet seat, paper, etc with bucket (compostable bags, i.e. like dog bags) + urine diverter + sawdust / horse bedding (pine scented). I carefully researched all toilet methods and concluded (1.) we usually just use a restaurant or something since we’re having fun being tourists, or around civilization, or at a music festival with porto-potties etc, and (2.) the other systems - composting etc have their own maintenance, issues, smells, etc; this is super simple: like walking a dog. If you do your business, pour some sawdust / horse-bedding mix in the bag if you’re not taking the bag out right away and apparently it won’t smell. We’ve never used it. Also, the entire toilet can be taken out of the vehicle - so if you setup camp, boondocking, you could take the whole thing out.
Outdoor Bathroom Sink Setup: Mirror, lights, mini sink - ideal for getting ready for bed, etc., washing hands
Shower: 10.6 gallons solar shower on the roof (PVC pipe, pressurized with tire pump) suitable for 2 avg-short showers, 4-5 military showers, or one luxurious shower. Can also pipe to the sink by switching end-caps for more water.
Sound: Alpine iLX-W650 - bluetooth, car play, Apple / Android; USB connection. Factory speakers. OBD reader (bluetooth). Backup camera.
CB Radio (rarely used, but is helpful when off-roading with friends, and/or emergency situations).
Light bar: crazy bright, unsure exact lumens, but it’s cool. Manual rocker switch on dash. Color changing underbody lights / rock lights; fun + cool, but also helpful if off roading to see terrain. Lots of interior lights.
AC: Works fine blows cold (vehicle); Rear windows are replaced with venting from a 1998; note they don’t sell these on newer vehicles due to safety concerns i.e. carbon monoxide when idling long periods (i.e. a plumber on a job site); excellent for airflow. Custom made screens go over the front windows, which are hand-turn not power (better for RVs: don’t have to turn on vehicle to put window up-down). Power locks added aftermarket with alarm, key-fob remote unlock. Interior is insulated + sound-insulated (was a radio station).
Rear tow hitch; fold-down tray for bikes, toys, storage, whatever; also when up has a 1-bike mount. 20lb propane mount on back + extra gas can option.
TV / Monitor mounted, DC powered (lower power draw) - excellent for laptop 2nd monitor work, or watching a movie.
Awesome vehicle. Why sell it? To be honest, I enjoyed building it. Now it’s sort of done. Time to sell it, get some money, and build another one. If I get another e-series, I’d use this exact layout again: being able to go in-out via the rear or side doors is awesome, and it’s helpful for occasional home depot plywood etc to have the center aisle open.
Vehicle records: Zero problems, transmission is excellent. Speedometer is off (why: tires sized up) (shows about 5% slower, but GPS shows true actual speed, so not a big deal). Vehicle battery replaced 2021. A bit of smoke on start only if it sits a long time, per mechanic is not serious + not worth replacing 2 weeks>; other than that this was maintained like an airplane. Fuel filter checked, oil changes clean. 1 belt was replaced just because the vehicle had been sitting. Alignment is excellent, wheel balance, springs - drives like it’s new.
Note this looks tough, but is not 4WD, but upon research I determined I don’t need it; a winch is frankly more helpful and I didn’t need anything more than fire roads. I have a good recovery kit - shovel, tow belts, emergency stuff etc - never used, but it’s under the bed. Spare tire is under the vehicle (stock tire - not a match, but it’ll get you back to civilization). If planning to use for snowboarding, ski, snow etc seriously I’d recommend (1.) ask me about the diesel heater, and (2.) you could look into a Quigley 4WD upgrade.
Location: Currently in Charleston SC. Airport pickup can be arranged then drive cross country. Maybe open to delivery with non-refundable deposit i.e. someone is very serious. I would absolutely trust it to drive cross country, and the wheel balance + alignment is excellent.
Vehicle was purchased in Los Angeles, CA - can be registered in CA (it’s CA smog-exempt, was titled as a commercial vehicle).
// Scammers: Don’t bother. No foreign money orders, no overpayment scams. I don’t need any help selling this vehicle.
Unsure on price, I’d guess 29k? If serious msg me at https://www.facebook.com/rogervdotcom
How I bought it in Los Angeles: Body was mint, hadn’t seen daylight + commercially maintained as part of a fleet. 100% rust free, except for some on the roof - water got under the vinyl wrap - I mitigated / ground it out etc; - alternate: get a Pop-top like a Sportsmobile>

Tired of LA housing? Want out of town? Here's your chance. Working as film crew on-set and want to pocket your per diem? It's comfy, looks cool, is fun.
Everything you need to plug in and go can be optionally included, and I mean everything: Recovery kit (i.e. if you get stuck in mud or sand), power (Jackery 1000), extra gas can, water cans, 10-day high-end cooler and/or optional dometic fridge-freezer combo - you name it. Dozens of tiny details.
I had fun building this, but it's a bit small for 2 full time, excellent for 1 full time or 2 weekenders, or 2 if you're really close I guess.
2002 Ford Econoline e-250 base; corporate owned (Disney Radio); was very well maintained + licensed as commercial vehicle (CA smog exempt). Purchased in Los Angeles, currently in Charleston, SC / licensed in CA but can be licensed in CA.
120,000 miles; mostly highway - was used as a mobile radio station. Had minor seals drying out from sitting. Drives like a dream. No slop in the steering, suspension is great, rust-free underbody - excellent shape mechanically and will easily go for 100k+ more. Easy to maintain (econoline = common) so if you want to get crazy overlanding style and drive from Alaska to Argentina, I'd trust this van for it.
Heads up: I'm currently in Charleston, SC, not LA ; open to delivery with non-refundable deposit - though better is fly here and I'll pick you up, and make an adventure.
Body: Vehicle was originally wrapped, so main body = mint condition, zero rust (CA / non-coastal), except the roof; water got under the wrap and was mitigated in most places - navy oil, grinding out, bondo in 2 places. Wood stove-cover serves as wind-cover + backsplash + has a light (for cooking at night). 2nd drawer for silverware. Soap dispenser, paper towels holder. 6 Gallon water tank; simple bucket for greywater. Sink is currently rigged for gravity feed, but I'll re-add the electric pump.
House Battery: Jackery 1000 (new Feb 2023, still under warranty, works perfect) tied to all hotel functions (so you won’t kill the vehicle battery). Can be charged 4 ways: (1.) Storage: Tons, for an E-series van: rear closet, built in dresser (can also function as a 2nd desk) with 3 drawers + large upper cabinet + lower cabinet.
Speedometer is off about 5% due to tire size (but GPS shows true speed). Vehicle battery replaced 2021. If vehicle is left sitting for more than a few weeks, it’s a bit smoky on startup (til the engine warms up); this is due to tiny head gasket leaks, stops on frequent use or when engine warms up. Per mechanic is not serious + not worth replacing; other than that this was maintained like an airplane.
If planning to use for snowboarding, ski, snow etc seriously I’d recommend (1.) ask me about the diesel heater, and (2.) you could look into a Quigley 4WD upgrade if you truly need 4WD.
Location: Currently in Charleston SC. Airport pickup can be arranged then drive cross country, or I'm open to meeting you at Burning Man , or Salt Lake City, or LAX.
If you're serious, email me at Lendermate then gmail d0tc0m or text 702-518-921 then six. We can schedule a video tour; LMK if you'd prefer to fly out vs need delivered to LA; preference = given to someone who can pick up here in beautiful Charleston SC.
For someone who wants to full time in it, I can be flexible on timing i.e. letting apartment go 30 days notice etc. - it really would be cool for that, but I can't yet go nomadic full time.
// Lowballers: Don't bother. My back is not up against the wall here. It's an excellent vehicle, and hurts a bit to sell it because it's in such great condition mechanically, but I don't need to sell it. I want to build out a full size school bus next.
Scammers: Don’t bother. Fk off, there's zero chance here. Cash at bank in person. No money orders. No foreign money orders, no overpayment scams. I don’t need any help selling this vehicle.

2023.12.03 20:42 Prince_Melon 4" to 8" SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 and 8" SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 2013 - 2018 Conversion Guide Part 2 and 3 Install and Programming the APIM module

4

Part 1 Sourcing Parts linked here

Part 2 Installation Guide

To give context and to back up my claims I successfully upgraded my 2017 Fusion SE Hybrid 4" SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 as well as my older brothers 2016 Fusion SE Hybrid 8" SYNC 2 to SYNC 3. So I have experience with both and understand the challenges with both cars. The 2017 was much harder compared to the 2016 model partly due to the updated trim making routing the new usb cable difficult and the plastic trim itself not wanting to unclip from the car.

Below are the following videos I have found that were helpful for me to reference during the process.
2013 - 2016 Body "OG 4D Tech Guide" https://youtu.be/sQzPtT6EcWg?si=Zze3Y6NWpHpMspaZ

2017 - 2018 Body (Great trim removal tips) https://youtu.be/sv27yvUBEuU?si=5RVsuClnrhay7HwE

Since I haven't seen anyone talk about the 2017 4" SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 upgrade I will post a few photos of what I did below. (will add them later since I haven't gotten a chance to take the photo yet)
To avoid scratching the plastic around the cup holders you can release the trim as seen in the video time stamped here.
Routing the usb and power cable along the passenger trim feeding the wires through the very small opening hole. You need to push two clips in so you can place the newly added USB hub into the plastic port. Note getting this small plastic trim took me 30+ minutes and tons of strength to get it to finally come out... I then used some tongs to pull the wire out of the small opening next to the cigarette lighter.
These were the only new things that I ran into that I wanted to document and the rest is all well documented in the YouTube videos posted above.

Lastly, before doing any APIM programming follow NaviUpgrades great video guide here: https://youtu.be/jFY0Tp-oWaU?si=I0ttOFieqPocDof6
Note it took my car around ~25 minutes to fully update so I would go for a drive while the USB is doing it's magic. Do a master reset after the installation is complete to clear any unwanted bugs.
It is important to be on the latest 3.4 software due to some of the APIM programming changing from 3 - 3.3.

Part 3 SYNC 3 APIM Programming Guide

Before any programming can be begun you will need to have purchased these FORScan recommended OBD adapters. Either this OBD adapter or this OBD adapter. I went with the cheaper OBD adapter and it works just fine. Make sure you install the drivers on your computer before attempting to use FORscan. To download FORscan for windows click this link. Additionally you will need to request a two month free trial license with this link to be able to write the new save data to your car.
To begin programming your APIM module download and save your Asbuilt data file from your specific vehicle VIN which can be obtained from this website located here. To help make programming easier you are going to want to compare the additional Asbuilt data files with this program found here.

How I found other appropriate VIN's to compare to my owe vehicle is by searching on used car websites and found cars that fit my profile as in Ford -> Fusion -> 2017 ->SE -> 8" SYNC 3 -> no heated seats. The VIN I used that fit my specific feature set that I could compare was 3FA6P0LU6HR287155 which again can be obtained from the Asbuilt website.
When comparing two files you will see the below image. The light yellow color indicates the written data is the same and the red data indicates the data is different from the compared files.

https://preview.redd.it/xeaohatcq74c1.png?width=2626&format=png&auto=webp&s=bfa2d2d0abfb20b720aec60726398abf640bbf72
You might be asking what all of these numbers even mean and thankfully there has been some helpful translators who have equated these seemingly random string of numbers into real features used by your vehicle. You can download and view these Rosetta stone style documents here and here.

Looking at the document we see there are many tabs dedicated to the specific control hardware for your Fusion. You want to find the APIM tab and again you should be on software 3.4 before programming. Looking at the below image you can see how you will read the document and then be able to compare it to the Asbuilt data compare software to figure out what you need to change on your vehicle. You can go line by line and make sure everything makes sense on the new file you are comparing to and if everything looks good you can just use the other vehicles data file to program yours directly without having to manually type the data in FORscan. Specifically what I mean is use the new Asbuilt data file to program your APIM unit and then edit any small changes you found after using the Asbuilt comparing program.

https://preview.redd.it/6okt9oua6e4c1.png?width=1405&format=png&auto=webp&s=98216fbe2a3ece06b0b3dfa6c7dccab8225a8ad5
I am not going to go over how to use FORscan directly but you can follow this video to get some guidance on the basic functionality and process of using FORscan. Or you can look at this document if you prefer a written guide.
Note the car engine should never be on while programming and the vehicle should just have the battery on and powering the car.
At first programming the APIM may seem difficult but when you boil it down it is just changing a few numbers that lets the vehicle know what pieces of hardware to talk to. For example looking at the reverse camera section on the spreadsheet. Lets say you have a reverse camera installed and it is not showing up in your system. One reason could be you have not enable the APIM to use the camera and simply changing the value from 0 or 1 to 2,3,A,B depending on the features your vehicle has should allow this camera to appear! Then simply upload the new data point in FORscan and restart the car and you should have a backup camera.

https://preview.redd.it/67qsd59n5e4c1.png?width=1392&format=png&auto=webp&s=87efd04c126e0c986be17a9fff97d5c02bc57add
I have seen some people say that you need to program the ACM module as well so make sure to look at that piece of hardware in the compare program as well as the spreadsheet. Follow the same process as the APIM and you will be golden. One thing to note I did not need to change anything on the 2016 Fusion ACM programming data.
I will try and answer any questions people have when they try to do this on their own. Good luck!

I have added a folder with my SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 for my Ford Fusion 2017 SE Hybrid with Nav to help folks out / to get started.

2023.11.27 06:44 Practical-Ordinary-6 REDTIGER F7N - firmware update and miscellaneous review

I have the REDTIGER F7N Micro USB [i.e. older] model dashcam with the all-weather outside rear camera, which I self-installed a year and a half ago. I tried the rear camera in my rear window for a bit but moved it outside and it's nice to have my real-time line of sight clear and not see all those distorted rear window defroster lines on replay. The picture quality is good and I have no trouble reading license plates and street signs with the front camera. Georgia doesn't have front plates so I don't know how the rear camera does with those except that I parallel park in front of someone from another state with a front plate and I can read it fine at parking distance.
Anyway, I have generally been happy with the F7N (first dashcam) but one definite annoyance was the fact that the sound quality was usually terrible, with a really bad echo when I spoke (on replay, of course). But often a drive-through window attendant would sound perfectly clear. So it wasn't apparently as simple as just the microphone or unit. I didn't know if maybe my car had a bad interior shape or too much hard plastic possibly. It really wasn't so much a problem as an annoyance, though. I hardly ever listened to the recordings.
It finally occured to me to look for a firmware update tonight when I saw an image of the settings page of my camera online and it didn't match mine. The newest firmware for my model was from May 2023 and mine was from December 2021. So I downloaded it and installed it. They have a video online that gives good instructions because it's not 100% intuitive, although it's not hard. The only problem I had was I dropped my micro SD card with the update on it and couldn't find it in my car. Luckily I had another unused small one handy.
The good news is it appears to have fixed my sound problem. No more echo. I also now have the Daylight Savings Time toggle in the settings that I didn't have before, which is how I noticed my firmware was out of date. Previously, I had to switch to a different time zone to get the right time during DST.
I also discovered the REDTIGER app. I had just been using UCam up to now but the REDTIGER app has more features. I kind of feel like I have a new camera now.
Also, I didn't buy the hardwire kit originally but I did "hardwire" my camera in a way. I installed a second power socket (cigarette lighter socket -- w/ fuse) under my dash and ran my factory power cable down through the A column to that, and have it permanently plugged in there -- out of sight, out of mind. I didn't care about parking mode.
But after a recent hit and run in a parking lot while parked I thought I'd give it a try, but now REDTIGER only advertises the USB C model hardwire kit. I asked their customer service about it (via email) and they said they would just send me one with micro USB. I gave them my address and they told me it's on the way.
REDTIGER gets a thumbs up from me.

2023.11.20 22:06 memory_moves Can a corroded charging port on a tablet or phone damage a USBC cable, and/or the charger itself?

Hi Reddit community! I'm usually the one with answers, but I'm facing a tech dilemma I've never encountered in my 25+ years in IT and software engineering.
I was using an Anker charger (with PD port, USB-C, and USB-A ports) for my Pixel 6 Pro and Samsung Tab S6. Unfortunately, one of the USB-C cables got wet, possibly causing corrosion. After using this cable, both devices stopped charging and showed debris warnings in their ports.
Unfortunately it looks like it's not limited to this devices as my e-cigarette also stopped charging.
I replaced the cables and even got a new charger, but the issue persisted. The cables charged ONCE and then completely stopped. Three of them successively. I've had to return multiple items to Amazon already.
To solve this, I replaced my tablet (which was costly) and switched to wireless charging for my phone. But this got me thinking - can a compromised USB port on a device damage the charging cables, and in turn, harm the charger itself? Has anyone experienced or heard of such an issue? Can you think of any other possibility ?
Your insights would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

2023.11.19 19:47 dirtrider998 Unflavored e juice instead of patches

Hi,
I'm back and forth between smoking and vaping and recently been trying DIY topical/patches.
To be honest I don't see myself %100 quitting smoking or vaping but who knows, I said that about going vegan and stayed vegan for over 11 years now. I stay physically active with work, exercise, can jog for miles and miles, etc - a cigarette/cigar every few weeks isn't going to hurt you as long as you don't get back into the routine - things like local air quality or just driving through tunnels, hair spray, cleaners, what chemicals are used to sanitize your local water source (chloramine etc is bad) ends up basically creating a gas chamber when you shower, etc etc, are much worse over time than a smoke every few weeks which lots of people enjoy and can have some benefits. I mean, even from the shut-down covid caused in China less people ended up dying overall because they stopped a lot of manufacturing etc which causes so much air pollution related problems.
I started vaping with the help of these forums around 2012 and was down from around 11 cigarettes daily to only 1 about every 2-3 weeks but I also vaped about 2.5ml of flavored 8mg daily. A lot of people back in 2013 vaped 36mg which seems crazy considering a lot of the pods etc nowadays are only like 2mg despite salt nic in most/all Pods supposedly delivers more efficiently.
When I got into DIY e-juice around 2014 I vaped around 2.5ml of 15mg Flavorless VG daily.
Years before the flavor bans etc or I always thought flavors were the sketchiest part of vaping, these flavors were originally basically made for making artificial candies etc, not inhaling, even eating them seems sketchy, and it just felt wrong vaping them especially when you vaped things like Root Beer and funny stuff like that, I was never into diacetyl (before the ban) cream/dairy/cake flavors, I was mostly into banana/fruit flavors.
I ended up smoking now half a pack a day again, my MODs kept giving me trouble, I was fed up with sticky juice leaking even though I used juice flow control tanks, my DNA mods were bricking on me from USB charging them, I didn't like using escribe for power curves etc ramp up times and didn't want to try non-kanthal TC coils or menu dive etc, sending MODs in for warranty etc because I hated the idea of using external chargers but DNA claims can safely charge them which yes they do safely balance charge multi cells but the charging fuse blows on them often hence there's many fuses being sold on eBay etc to re-solder repair. I also sort of fell into wanting to cloud chase although I never did mechanical mod stuff but I had 200-250W double/triple 18650 big mods and big RTAs that just became a hassle for me to carry around. Was also a hassle every year or so when I'd shop to see what new tanks and mods were available but there really hasn't been much break-through technology but I'm the type when I shop online I fall into a rabbit hole and basically have to narrow everything down through process of elimination to see what I want and this could take days and days sometimes - I was happiest with just a small pocket size 1,300 mAh eGO spinner with a Kanger protank on it vaping fruit flavors/flavorless, or a simple single coil RDA because it never leaked and was easy to rebuild. I used a car charger while out and about since battery didn't last too long.
Recently I got a nice, light pocket size single 18650 Vaporesso GEN 80 with a small Millennium MTL RTA flavorless which seems to be perfect for me but I'm still smoking. I do sort of want to now and then make some big clouds too so I might get a MOD just for that, I have a ginormous RDA waiting but nothing to power it with but that's besides the point and maybe later I'll try that just for fun - because when we started vaping in 2012 there wasn't much vapor then it became about dual coils, quad coils, dangerous unprotected mechanical MODs etc and I always had the itch to make big clouds but I'm sure it'd be a passing phase and I'd be back to just my small MTL tank.
I like simplicity - I remember reading here something which stuck with me was like "yea there's so many nuances with vaping whereas smoking is just 1) put cigarette in mouth 2) light it 3) smoke it".
So anyways, from dealing with 100mg nic concentrate DIY mixing, I knew it was sketchy just to handle or breath in because it can absorb through the skin. Now I'm realizing though, if I want to reduce smoking and vaping, why not just DIY patches/topical cream? NOT 100mg cream before you jump to conclusions. The nic we vape is the cleanest form that people inhale so it's got to be as-safe if not safer than nicotine patches which are pricey. I've recently been taking about 1ml of 10mg flavorless %100VG and rubbing it into my arm or thigh in the morning but I'm still smoking. I definitely don't want to overdo it with the topical, I don't know how long it lasts or if I should do it mostly in the morning or spread out - I don't want a rush of nicotine all at once at work, I'd rather a slow steady affect so I can basically forget about smoking or vaping. 1ml of 10mg topical is almost nothing compared to actually inhaling that much juice still isn't that much to vape. I read patches can take up to 8 hours and can last 24 hours and most people sleep with them on - I don't really want to be constantly on nicotine though lol that just seems weird. Patches range from 7mg,14mg, and 21mg. But I don't know the 'recipe' If I mix flavorless VG at 14mg how many ml would it take to actually have an affect and how much would be too much. I think a lot of it is also placebo affect but for now I'm afraid to apply too much and am thinking what I am applying is way too little and am smoking and vaping also, but again, placebo affect is also there either in my favor that even just a small amount topical is good enough but also that IDK if I'm feeling the actual nicotine and should apply more concentrated.
EDIT, it turns out patches aren't really that pricey, for $40 you can get 56 patches are supposed to last about a month which are a mix of 7, 14 and 21 mg, but some other brands or lozengers can get pricey and a hassle to find if run out vs I always have some nic concentrate in the freezer or can just run to the nearby store and buy a pack of cigarettes, but the temptation to just rub some DIY flavorless into the skin and just be done with it is also there.
