The discrepancy between my two soil peppers, and my hydro pepper is absurd.
So for a timeline, I have no idea how old these are. At least two months. I was planting all winter and it was my first season so I didn’t keep track of hardly anything. Lesson learned.
The soil peppers are Poblano (pic 2) and Big Jim Chili (pic 3). One thing I do know is that I planted these two at least 6 weeks before I started doing the paper towel technique to germinate some pepper seeds. Cayenne was the only one that worked, and only 1 of 25 total survived past transplantation. The last picture is of my Cayenne baby that survived my wildly unsuccessful attempt at a common “hack”
For the soil plants, I water once every week or two (when dry) and I drown those hoes. They’re in a mixture of soil, perlite, moss, and EWC. The Cayenne pepper I just use MaxiGro and some beneficial mycorrhizae product. I suck at taking care of it, after I change the nutes I forget about it for two weeks. I set it to pH 5.6-5.8, EC of 2500, and the rez is on my basement floor in Mn, in a 74° greenhouse. The greenhouse is kept at 67% humidity.

2024.04.09 21:35 invalid_credentials I love my constellation.

I love my constellation.
I was not going to post pics of this guy yet but I mean look at those leaves! Hoping for some holes when that big one unfurls.
Growing in high mountain west, USA. Soil is 30% expanded clay, 30% perlite #3, 30% choir, 10% happy frog. 35% RH. 14hrs light @ 18,000 lux (I ease my lights on and off). I don’t have a PAR meter but can convert lux roughly.
I feed/water every other day as the soil I made drains very very well. Happy to share nutes and quantities I use if it’s helpful. I use tap water (ghasp!) and we have super hard water (9.0). I adjust down with my nutes, and a little lemon. The hard water lets me feed more often without zapping the plants.
I just wanted to show off those green waxy leaves.. I’ve had this 4 weeks and it has put out 2 new leaves with 2 more on the way. Hope you are all having a banger day.

last update: 28MAR2024
/Budscience actually contains a lot of quality information and I encourage you to join. These are some of the posts I've done and many of the links have discussions.
This gets into why ePAR has been rejected as an industry standard, so far.
By switching to 13/11 instead of 12/12, this study found 35-50% greater yields. But what about total flowering times?
Far red is being busted with lots of elongation, lower yields, lower terpenes, and lower cannabinoid levels.
UVA lowers things a bit.
UVB elevates some terpenes and lowers others. Total terpenes are lowered.
I also give some tips from my experience with designing and using aeroponic systems.
Light quality (specific wavelengths) really doesn't affect rooting that much.
UV light keeps getting busted!
Bugbee et al. Blue light lowers yields.
A weak study but supports that blue light lowers yields.
Another paper showing the type of light isn't that important for cloning.
SAG gets into more pissing matches! If you make a claim, you need to back it up with evidence. If you say that you have done far red experiments or have grown at 3000 uMol/m2/sec of light (lol...), and if you can't back it up, you're completely and utterly full of shit.
A flawed paper that shoots down far red, yet again.
Study that shows nitrogen is more important than phosphorus for flowering.
Pics of nute disorders.
Every doubling of containers size gives around 43% greater yield in this paper.

2024.03.24 03:00 twofold48 Can someone help me out with my Fittonia (Nerve Plant) please?

Can someone help me out with my Fittonia (Nerve Plant) please?
(Pics. 1 & 2 - present, pic 3 - 32 days ago) Hey everyone! I’ve had this Fittonia for 32 days now! I hate it. My fiancée thinks it’s my favorite because I spend the most time working on it and the most time talking about it, compared to my others. It was a gift from a client and I really love the way it looks, but it’s a damn drama queen. I’ve declared her “somewhat happy” because I see 6 new leaves, but she is still drooping.
The day I got her she was in a mug, and in regular potting soil packed tight. So I did some research and thought well heck… not wet, not dry, but consistently moist? This is a job for an auto-watering pot. Put an incredible(y expensive) mixture of soil, perlite, peat moss, and earth worm castings into the pot, wick unit halfway up, dangling into DI water with some nutes. It looked great for a week. I’ve since removed the wick and have it just in the smaller pot.
About a week later the leaves started looking like someone beat its parents in front of it, so I did some more research and determined it needed some more humidity?? So I put it in my greenhouse (I mean it was always there, but now you know), on a bed of Leca with DI water, and put it JUST outside of the direct path of the humidifier (which is set to run until 67% is reached in the greenhouse).
Please give me your wisdom. Here are some answers to some question I anticipate.
•There are 3 drainage holes on the pot. •50% potting soil, 20% perlite (yes really, it just looks like more on top), 20% peat moss, 10% earth worm castings, 100% that bitch. •The greenhouse is kept at an average of 71.6 degrees, not higher because I have hydroponic reservoirs in there. It’s kept at 67%-69% humidity fluctuating with airflow. The Fittonia is JUST outside of the direct path of humidity. •There are two high power computer fans going in (quarter of way up to the greenhouse ceiling, 120x240mm) and two going out (top of the greenhouse, 120x240mm) set to run on timers, 30 mins on 90 off. Fresh air exchange has never been a problem. •I monitor her soil with a digital meter to ensure it stays moist but not wet. •I refill the pebble tray water when I see a difference in the water. •”bright indirect light” is an absolute bullshit term lol. Shes been kept at a spot reading 22 PPFD units, recently (today) moved to a new spot reading 65 PPFD. My grow light is only set to 50% at the moment.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you everyone!

2024.02.09 05:35 LinusThiccTips How wet is perlite supposed to be before it gets watered again?

How wet is perlite supposed to be before it gets watered again?
I made this guetto dutch bucket system for my bareroot strawberries in my basement. You can see on the 3rd pic that I’ve left an inch or so of space at the bottom of the containers so they have a reserve of nutes at the bottom.
I last ran the pump last night until plenty of water came out the outlet tubing. Tonight I put my finger in the perlite and it’s still pretty wet.
Should I wait for it to dry a bit before I run the water pump again? I’m trying to come up with a pump schedule.
TIA

So mango XL week 8
Growing with cronk nutes in coco/ perlite. This is my first attempt at something that’s not an auto and indoors. Plan is to top them very soon and let them veg for another three weeks. Scrog net and trim the bottom bud sites off. Happily take suggestions on topping and scrog as I’ve never done it before. These are growing a little slower than I thought but they look like they’re doing alright. I’ll post some progress pics as they come. Start the 12/12 light cycle March 3 give or take a few days

2024.01.20 20:16 Jfart1 Update on novo clones.

Update on novo clones.
Two clones show the start of rooting but that’s the only change at week 3.
Other are still a live.
The first clone to show signs of rooting has yellowing of one of the leaves.
I also had Des pics of a P. Viridis that I struggle to get growing again.
After changing to a new terrarium I believe my light was too intense and burned the shit out of almost every plant in it. The rest have come back but the P. Viridis dropped all of its leaves. The leaves that were growing were small twisted growth.
After lowering water PH to 5 and adding a small amount of nutes it’s started to produce leaf shoots off the main… trunk? The new leaf shoots small and want want to stall out.
The nutes that were used were chelated iron, cal mag, and micro nutes by GH. But a very small feed in fear it’ll burn because I do t really have a diagnosis of what’s wrong.
I do think it’s a deficiency of some sort because the low ph and small feeding did initiate the leaf shoots after I for sure thought it was a goner.
Love to hear some thoughts on the P. Viridis if anyone’s willing. Feel free to ask questions.

2023.12.12 06:16 AidanRM5 Avoiding Precipitates?

Avoiding Precipitates?
I'm having problems with precipitates forming in my nutrient solution. I have several outdoor kratky setups (pictured) growing vegetables using Campbells Diamond Special T and NitroCal. 1.8-2.4 EC, and aiming for a pH of 6-6.5. Adjusting the Ph is the real problem.
Adding nutrients drops the pH to 5 or less, so I add a Potassium Carbonate adjuster solution to the tap water (0.08 EC, 6.1pH) prior to adding the nutes. No issues there. Problem is, the pH rarely stays there, and within 1-2 weeks I need to raise it again. Even using the pH-up heavily diluted causes large quantities of precipitates to form, which will not re-dissolve (see pic).
I think this might be insoluble Calcium Carbonate, as my plants are then show signs of calcium deficiencies (blossom end rot, poor fruit set). How do people keep their pH stable, or adjust without causing a basic solution to pull nutrients out of solution? Many thanks :)

Update on heka & ocifer
Wassup peeps. So the lady (Ocifer) that’s been growing in the solo hasn’t rlly been growing like the rest (I’m assuming because it hasn’t been drying out as fast as the rest. I may have done something wrong when i put it in the solo I honestly don’t know) but I transplanted her to her final home today (5gal fabric) and added some Tony’s magic mix as a top fertilizer. I’m only gnna do it on this plant to see a difference between this and the house and garden liquid nutes. I watered it in but didn’t wanna over water so there may still be some dry and wet mix together (not sure if that was smart) 😩 but I’ll see how she recovers. As for the rest I went ahead and fed the regular week 1 schedule they’re looking wonderful imo. I’ll snap some pics tomorrow and I’m off this weekend so maybe I’ll transplant the rest of the girls into their pots

2023.11.20 06:43 fixinmahhouse Powdery mildew on cucumbers?

This white, dusty looking stuff showed up on my cucumber leaves. The leaves closer to the roots have a solid layer of it, the leaves further away from the base seem to have dots of it.
Is this powdery mildew? Or could it be something else?
Any suggestions on getting rid of it?

Newbie to hydroponics, having an issue
Greetings gs farmers!! I hope you are all healthy and well!! 🙏🏼
Just recently i decided to try some hydroponics. I made an Rdwc system and now trying to figure out, how to use it correctly.
My system works just fine(i think 💭 so), the nutes i using are terra aquatica tri part. Atm i following first roots schedule, which is 0.5ml of every each per liter. Also im using TA pro roots stimulator as mentioned in TA schedule. Water im using is RO. Ph around 5.7 and ppm around 350. Water temperature around 23. Air pump is 2400 lt/h for 4, 20 lt buckets. My lights are LED Lumatek 465 zeus pro c. Seeds were terminated in rockwool cubes till roots showed up, after placed in pots with hydroton. The rockwool cubes are not on the bottom of the net pot, but on some layers of the hydroton.
On my pics those are actually different plants. I replaced some badly damaged plants with newer seedlings, but all of them are wilting. I just can't understand why this is happening. Net pots are like 2 inches above the water. Also i can see some roots and there is no pythium. My lights were at 25%, them i turned them on 50%, the distance between lights and plants is around 10 inches. I poured some water a couple of times on hydroton, tried to avoid the rockwool area. Looks to me like overwatering, but i have no clue. Is it possible that rockwool is choking them, I don't know...
Any info would be super appreciated 🙏🏻 Thank you for taking your time and reading ✌🏼

This years outdoor project. Kush Mintz (Barneys) on the left and Gorilla Skittlez on the right.
These two have had a rough summer. Was having issues with pH all summer using Fox Farms nutes. Was only towards the end of the summer and doing some research that I found out that FF nutes can really lower pH. What I cant get my head around is I never had the same issue last year...Think a new pH meter is needed for next year...Probably cropping the Kush Mintz end of the week...The GS still seems to have another few weeks left. Bless this dry September, eh. Will post better pics next day or so..🤠🤠

Pomegranate tree help
Good morning! Apologies for the random ordering, pic 4 is when I first got them, pic3 and 2 are a few months later, pic 1 is current. Any thoughts on how to tame my unruly Pom tree? She’s about 6 months old since I brought her home. No flowers nor fruit yet, I removed the clovers per a friend’s recommendation and the plant started thriving again. I gave her nutes (Jobes) in the beginning of summer and she got kinda burnt (last pic). I know just what I know from my 6 months with this plant, any and all info/advice is welcomed! Ps what should I do with the long branches??? I cut some previously and then 2 new branches emerged from the cut site, I gave some cuttings to a neighbor and they legit started growing for them😎

2nd Mead- Bochet
Honey-1.9kg Water upto 5L Yeast- R56 Nutes- DAP & BBY. Bentonite-3g SG- 1.100
Question BBY ( Pic 2) - followed Batchbuilder , and multiplied the Fermaid-O values by 3 , so added about 3g of BBY at 24,48 & 72( will add today). I stored the BBY in a bottle in fridge.
It separated into water and a sedimented yeast. I tilted the waster out and added only the settled yeast as Nutes. Is this OK?
Process ( pic 3) - Boiled honey for 1 hour and 40 mins. Took a sample every 10 minutes. This was a cheap supermarket honey that, for the first 40 minutes, the honey samples gave out so much water and blotted into the paper ( facepalm).
DAP- my scales don’t measure accurately below 3 grams. So added a pinch of DAP. Need to buy better scales.
Bentonite- I went a bit light and didn’t follow the 1gram/Liter rule, since I dono how strong the fining effect will be. Will increase the values in upcoming batches.
Today morning it was after abt 60hours and the fermentation is pretty active.
The bubbler was releasing every 10 seconds b/aw 24-48 hrs, but after degassing at 48, its now every 2-3 seconds.
TIA for any tips from the community.

New Grower - Puzzled!
New grower here, a little puzzled as to what's going on with one of my plants. The one just has much darker leaves and some are a little crinkled/textured more that the others plants (3rd pic) Perhaps I'm just an overly concerned plant dad though!
All the stats, media, lighting air etc. are all the same. Not sure what to think - would greatly appreciate any thoughts from the veterans out there.
2x4x5 foot grow tent
300w grow led 15" above the plants which puts them at 600-800 PAR per the vivosun documents, 18hrs a day
Fresh coco coir media, grow dots extended veg time release nutes Water with RO that has added calcium/mag (Culligan) pH is 5.8-6.2
Tent is consistently 74-77 degrees, CO2 stable between 650/750, humidity consistently at 55-60.
Strain is Garry Payton, growing from seed.
Possible it's just natural variation?

First sprout of first grow!
First grow here... I've got 4 seeds planted and am holding my breath because during their time in the damp paper towel, I sealed up the ziplock bag 🤦‍♀️ but one has sprouted! They popped taproots July 25 and I planted them July 26 when I realized the error of my ways.
Northern Lights Auto (Seedsman) has sprouted first, July 28. I've got 2 Gorilla Cookies Auto (FastBuds) and 1 Do-Si-Dos Auto (Barney's Farm) watching with my fingers crossed. Eventually one of the GC and NL will go outside and the other GC and DSD will stay in the tent if I didn't kill the seeds.
YAY first sprout!!!
Is this hobby going to be a thing where I have as many pics on my phone of my cannabis plants as I have pics of my cats?
They're in Pro Mix HP, no nutes yet. I'm spraying the top with 6.15pH water daily. The unsprouted ones are under humidity domes. I'll start the Flora nutes week 2. Light is the SpiderFarmer SF2000, 24" above (I'm measuring by the Photone app reading which is 247 right now). 78F and 68% humidity in the tent (might have to add the humidifier once the domes come off for the beginning anyway). I'm wishing for Costco to run a sale on the Midea cube dehumidifier as I know I will need that soon. Humidity in the lung room is 58%, air conditioned and a few degrees cooler than inside the tent.
