2024.05.28 22:15 No-Appearance-100102 ALL MY HOMIES HATE SUB🖕🏿🖕🏾🖕🏽🖕🏼🖕🏻(jk...nah but for real tho)

This ain't aimed at people who genuinely just prefer watching it in sub because it's more enjoyable, nor is it for those that can admit that it's bad voice acting in a language you can't fully grasp is harder to notice so it always sounds good, same way dub watchers just don't wanna read words on the bottom of the screen that fuck off after a millisecond; both our reasons are petty. Nah I'm aiming this at the weeby snobs and elitists regurgitating the same sorry arguments when people call them out on just being arrogant cunts.
If your argument against dub is that it sounds cringe and unnatural, welcome to voice acting, it's not supposed to sound natural, THE ORIGINAL DOESN'T SOUND NATURAL EITHER. Fiction especially cartoons and especially especially anime is FUCKING UNNATURAL. Art isn't supposed to be mimicry, it's taking the familiar and taking the elements you want to shine a light on and emphasizing. Go back to 18th century London, talk to people on the street and enter the globe theatre, the people on the stage were not speaking like the people watching the play next to you; true artists exaggerate and embellish the real world to get the emotions across. No one talks or acts like they do in 70% of western live action shows let alone cartoons. Now that i'm thinking about this deeper I'm almost certain that the people that make this argument exclusively watch subbed anime and only exclude dub but just other artforms in general; all art is cringe if you view it from a non emotional lense, have you ever been to a West end or Broadway show for fuck sake ? Speaking of emotions, this brings me to another argument thrown around and probably( the only valid one to an extent), that Japanese voice actors put more emotions and intensity into their performances. This one's especially ironic and hypocritical if you genuinely believe English VA's are cringe, Japanese voice actors are cringier, which is why they're better, they're willing to get weirder and campier than their English counterparts, conveying more deeply the emotions and personalities of the characters. The thing is no one on earth sounds like that for real...because this is art, and Japan has the best voice artists, not up for debate, they have literal voice acting schools for fuck sake, they're the better voice actors( at least on average).
Honestly tho, how much of a difference is better voice acting gonna make in a langauge you don't understand ? Oh "It's more realistic/authentic" is something that gets thrown around a lot...how tho?.... what about it is more realistic, it couldn't be the dialogue because you can't fucking understand it to discern between realism and nor, it can't be the events happening because those don't get translated they stay the same, and i hope you don't mean their voices because no one genuily speaks like that in any country(unless they're theatre kids). It's not more authentic, you don't fucking understand the language to begin with so how is hearing it with subtitles(and i'll get to the actual subtitles) adding anything to the experience ? There's so much nuance and context that's being lost regardless of if you can hear the original dialogue. Especially with a language so fucking different from english the only way you'll be able to experience it authentically is if you learn to speak and understand the language. Now i don't speak Japanese, however I do speak a non indo-european language that's very different from English, I know damn well ain't no subtitles or dubbing in the bloody world gon get across the nuances of the grammar tones or proverbs and honestly it's not as alien to English as Japanese is with it's heavy honorifics and formalities.
Watching the og dialogue with words underneath won't make the context any clearly 9 times out of 10, sure maybe occasionally you'll catch something that adds a drop of insight into the vast ocean that is a language watching it that way, but you're better of learning the actual language and the actual culture (and if that's your goal i'd actually suggest watching it without ANY subtitles or with Japanese subtitles). Dub is better for watching an art form like cartoons/anime because a good dub will - and I know some of yous are gonna lose your heads over this word - LOCALISE. I know if i haven't lost you already this'll do it for sure but what i mean by localisation is translating the vibe( another word that'll turn a lot of you off probably). Like I'm never gonna understand the full Japanese context of what is being said less I learn the language so they might as well translate it into something I'll be more familiar with so I get to feel how I'm supposed to feel listening to what' being said ( obviously not jelly fucking donut level). As a translation it's supposed to make me feel how a japanese person would feel when hearing the dialogue, not letting me know what they are saying word for word.
This might be more of a me problem so anybody else let me know if you've noticed this as well but a lot of the time when watching sub the translations are robotic as fuck and juxtaposed to the extremly dramatic Japanese voice acting is very jarring. Like the visuals and cadence are giving personality and character but none of that is getting translated in the actual text I'm reading.
The most annoying one will always be calling dubbed watchers illiterate and/or slow because we ain't tryna multitask while WATCHING a show, it's a visual medium first and foremost, I don't give a toss how good you got at splitting your eyes apart like 2017 Pennywise it's forever a hassle trying to focus on vanishing words while there's simultaneously shit going on on the screen usually just as if not more important. This ain't manga/comics where you're in control and what you focus on on the page, it's not a novel where you create the senses in your mind based on what's written, these are motion pictures, I can't just slow it down or rewind, I mean i could but who the fuck wants to fuck up the momentum and pacing of the show/film like that ?
I know it may sound like l hate sub but I really don't, i have a PREFERENCE for dub and will watch sub when necessary like when it's a live action foreign film like the YuYu Hakusho LA or the dub is taking long to come out and i can't wait like AOT, if it take place in Japan, or if i just wanna check it out for curiosity sake and to see if there's anything new i might catch. My gripe is with the people who are not only sub elitist but make it their mission to shit on anyone with differing tastes or needs. just say you feel cooler watching it subbed or just hate fictional dialogue and sub makes it harder to clock how camp and unbelievably silly the show you're watching truly is.
(And yeah i Know it's not this deep but sub snob are such wankers and been getting on my nerves lately)

2024.05.28 22:12 Junior_Smell_8682 Very interested in audio engineering

Very interested in audio engineering
I'm an incoming freshmen majoring in Electrical Engineering bc I'm interested in it. The green/blue classes are HCC/AP credit I have from high school. I'm taking Calculus 2 and Creative Arts my 1st semester and Calculus 3 my 2nd semester, so that's why Calc 3 and CA are yellow
I am also very interested in audio engineering. Since the end of 8th grade, I have 3.5 years of experience in live sound for marching band/indoor percussion (1122 hours of experience), 9 months of ProTools Studio for mixing/mastering/post-production, some studio planning/diagrams, GarageBand, MainStage, Dante ControlleVirtual Soundcard, and repairing/soldering DB25 and XLR cables
I want to get a minor in Media Production. Is this doable with EE, even though I have a lot of transfer credit? I am planning on taking COMM 1307 my 1st semester if there's open spots before the 1st day of classes. It's asynchronous online, and I need to take an extra elective for UHin4
What other audio engineering classes does UH offer that I might be able to take? I heard Tech Theatre classes are only for Theatre majors
How else can I get involved with audio engineering at UH? What's Coog Radio, Coog TV, Honors College Club Theatre, and Nothing About Us Without Us like? Which should I join?

2024.05.28 09:33 eefyjeff [Original Series Concept] Project Canaan

[Original Series Concept] Project Canaan
"Towards the last star; our exodus."
This idea popped when I was on a short holiday trip and after listening to Mili's "Grown-Up's Paradise" in the car for the twentieth time. To put it in a nutshell, it's the middle part of the Venn diagram between Blue Archive, Limbus Company, and Arknights.
SUMMARY On a distant Star, in a distant future, humanity had survived the end of the world that was prophesized by the religions of old. Having past the endpoint, the people of the Star kept on advancing with no God to guide them anymore. Technological advancements, rampant political conquests, and the total reshaping of civilizations; only pride and ego alone could motivate them as humanity sought for total control over the land, sky, and sea.
Yet in the midst of a world so keen on tearing itself apart, a singular choice could hold the key to free the people from this hell. With a promise of a new utopia, the turning point was set: “Canaan”. The question remains: will you be the one who will reshape the destiny of the forsaken people?
WORLD
· The Endpoint
In the last millennium, a cataclysmic chain of events unfolded, leading many to believe it was the true end of mankind. The world was engulfed in devastating calamities: natural disasters, famine, pestilence, unnatural biological deformities, endless war and conquest, and even cosmic calamity. For 70 years, humanity endured relentless suffering. Then, as if the Gods had finally given up, everything suddenly came to a halt. The world fell silent, and humanity remained.
· Hearth
The burning essence of all life. The Hearth is a specialized function integrated within the thalamus of all humans born after the Endpoint. Like the branches of a tree, it extends its function throughout the nervous system, encompassing the brain and the entire body. Although it lacks a tangible form, the Hearth operates as a newly developed neural mechanism, which grants post-Endpoint humans with enhanced physical and mental capacities, and in some cases, even supernatural abilities.
The most basic enhancement gained includes an increased resilience to otherwise fatal injuries, such as falling from great heights or sustaining damage from projectile weapons. Due to its intangible and deeply integrated nature, the removal of the Hearth without causing death is virtually impossible. To date, there has been no documented case of successful extraction… Except for one, of course.
· Leech
Creatures of the end times. Since the start of The Endpoint, anomalous organisms known as "Leeches." had been plaguing the planet. The first recorded sighting occurred during the initial year of calamity, marked by the appearance of three monstrous entities: "Behemoth," "Ziz," and "Leviathan." These primordial beings, born from scorn and impurity, heralded the arrival of the Leeches.
Leeches exhibit biological structures akin to viruses, with their vital components comprised of pure mineral elements and a mysterious, otherworldly substance known as "Terminal Cell AR.", a blot-like material that’s integral to their existence. Exceptionally hostile, the Leeches possess a form of near-immortality. When killed, their bodies disintegrate, releasing the Terminal Cell AR into the atmosphere. This substance then coagulates and disperses, allowing the Leeches to reconstruct themselves into new off-springs, perpetuating their relentless infestation.
· Reset Laboratory
A multilateral conglomerate dedicated to research and technological advancement. Established as early as the third year of The Endpoint, Reset's mission is to ensure humanity's well-being, survival, and future. Their contributions have been pivotal, making them one of the key pioneers in humanity's drastic reconstruction following The Endpoint.
Reset's achievements cannot be understated. Successful research into the inner workings of the Hearth, biological augmentations, creation of groundbreaking technologies, and development of effective methods to counteract the negative effects of Leech encounters; these are all to name a few of Reset's critical role for the new age of humanity.
· Yehoshua Incorporated
A private military company operating under the supervision of ‘Talitha’. Independent and autonomous, the company positions itself as the primary third-party mediator in international disputes, be it political or military. Naturally, Yehoshua Inc. possesses control over advanced technology and specialized military expertise to execute complex operations across the globe. Due to its lack of formal allegiance to any nation or political entity, Yehoshua Inc. benefits from a perception of neutrality, allowing it to operate without being held accountable for any violations committed by its clients. From this company’s executive decision, the Canaan Initiative is born, funded, and maintained.
· Canaan Initiative
A classified project initiated by Yehoshua Inc. that aims to reshape the world and stir the wheel into the ideal direction. Working alongside you will be the Prodigies, ten capable agents scouted by Yehoshua to aid in this endeavor. As the Mentor of the Prodigies and leader of this project, it is your responsibility to guide them properly and fulfill the various missions requested by the company. Missions carried out by Canaan includes studying the true nature of Hearth and Leeches, recovering undiscovered technologies, be in the frontlines of international conflicts, and etching your name in the heart of all nations. You may make enemies, and your life will always be at stake, but that is the cross you need to bear if you wish to free us from this hell. Godspeed, dear Mentor.
PREMISE This is still a rough draft, but we'll just have to go with it. You are a convict who's held captive by the government for a few decades. All files regarding your crimes, all memories you and others have about you have been erased, even your Hearth, something that's known to be intangible and irremovable, was taken from you. Even if you have forgotten everything, there's something that you won't let go: your hatred towards this world and your violent tendency. Which is why you are recruited by Yehoshua for their new project; promising to give you back your Hearth and reshape the world you despise so much. And thus, you take the role of "Mentor" for your ten "Prodigies".
TL;DR, it's basically Blue Archive, but sensei is a deranged and unstable psychopath.
I will work on this more once I'm no longer busy. For now, here's a concept for the Nameless Mentor and the "Shiroko" stand-in (Made with this picrew)
The Nameless Mentor, no introductions needed.
Kannari Eru, the soon-to-be main girl of the series

2024.05.27 12:23 OscarWilde02 Is Richard III at the Globe Theatre worth it?

Hi guys, I’m thinking of watching Richard III at the Globe Theatre but it’s £80. The show ends in August so I’m scared I’ll get FOMO if i don’t go in the next few weeks.
For anyone whose seen it recently, would you recommend it? I studied the play for A levels and loved it.
I know I can get cheap standing tickets but I am unable to stand still for that long lol.

2024.05.24 10:38 ComprehensiveTax7 Was institutional knowledge of Royal Navy an advantage in WW2 compared to USN or IJN?

I was watching a documentary about Indian ocean theatre of WW2 and it got me thinking, whether the fact that the Royal Navy was a dominant global naval power for centuries and therefore had much more accumulated knowledge and experience than either IJN or USN provided for some advantages in modern era?
Did they have better naval charts? Better understanding of local weather patterns around the globe?
Or any historical knowledge was pretty much obsolete or readily available for all involved parties?

2024.05.23 19:16 Helpful-Doubt-7218 Best Rusty Lake Games Ranked- Worst to Best (according to somone who just finished playing all games a day ago) part 1

17-Cube Escape: The Cave
Hot take but this one was probably the most annoying one of them all. The reason it's so low on the list is cuz even with answers it's still above one's head(or I'm just dumb). It glitched almost every time I played it(which is probably not the game's fault) causing me start over from the beginning. It would have been much higher up the list if it weren't so frustrating to play. First part of the game is great tho. Overall 7.2/10 Difficulty level:9.3/10
16-Cube Escape: Harvey's Box
This game was their unique yet the most basic one. It was good but nothing mind boggling. One of their harder games. I also don't see how this game relates to the lore of rusty lake. So random, yet pulls you in. Overall 7.3/10 Difficulty level 8.8/10
15-Cube Escape: The Mill
Don't got much to say about this one. It's a good game and the story itself isn't there best ones, in my opinion. Short and sweet(if you're fast enough.) Still don't understand what the mill does. Overall 7.5/10 Difficulty level 7/10
14-Cube Escape: The Lake
This is their shortest game yet. You don't realize how short most of these games are when you don't know the answers. Anyway this one's quite good. Overall 7.6/10 Difficulty level 6/10
13-Cube Escape: Arles
This was probably the most easiest one of em all and I'm proud to say I didn't use a single hint. The story is basic compared to some others but it's still great nonetheless. Van Gogh's paintings have been wildy used in this series and I still don't get the significance of them. Overall 7.7/10 Difficulty level 2/10
12-Rusty Lake Paradise
This took me quite some time to complete and I guess it was pretty worth it. It got me a little clueless at first since this game wasn't really much connected to the other games. The voice acting in this one is great. Adding 10 plagues was a nice touch. If I'm being honest, the main character didn't deserve what all he went through. Overall 8/10 Difficulty level 8.2/10
11-Cube Escape: Case 23
This game lives up to it's description. Investigation of a mysterious death? Count me in! The logic behind some of the answers don't make any sense, but hey! this is Rusty Lake we're talkin' about. Adding 4 parts makes it feel like I'm playing 4 different games, which isn't much of complaint especially since the fact that all Rusty Lake games are connected. The last chapter was the hardest of them all and I still go no clue how I completed it(a walkthrough helped.) Overall 8.2/10 Difficulty level 8.5/10
10-Rusty Lake Hotel
Thisame was just complete randomness. Probably the most random one of them all. I guess this game is consists of the characters from Rusty Lake Paradise as animals but I could be wrong. It was also the most traumatizing one for me(if you know you know)Still good tho. Overall 8.3/10 Difficulty level 8.3/10
9-Cube Escape: Seasons
Halfway this game is really easy and then the rest half of the game just stumped me. It really puts of sense of understanding of who the characters are in the game for me . The recurring parrot, blue dressed woman and the iconic wallpaper that I see in the later games. Overall 8.4/10 Difficulty level 8.1/10
8-Rusty Lake Roots
This one took me the longest to finish and I don't regret it one bit. In my opinion, this game was the saddest one of em all and when I found out Frank had been in the well for all that time, I genuinely shed a tear...Anyway one thing I don't get is the significance of the pocket watch. Where did it even come from in the first place? What made it so special? Overall 8.5/10 Difficulty level 7.8/10
7-The Past Within
Genuinely one of the coolest concepts of this game series. They should do this more often. But the fact is I played this alone cuz all my friends are either too dumb(sorry) or they aren't interested(your loss) I guess it could've been way more fun if I did play it with someone but it was still pretty entertaining. I like how both the past and future have completely different graphics. Overall 8.7/10 Difficulty level 8.5/10
6-Samsara room
For a fact everyone's talking about how good the games but the music(most of the time)goes unnoticed. One of the best soundtracks of the series belong to this game. The game itself is kinda mesmerizing and you are pulled into it's world. Usually I'm not philosophical but this game forces me to be. Overall 8.9/10 Difficulty level 7.9/10
5-Cube Escape: Theatre
I like how this game is connected to The White Door which is think is a cool Easter egg. This one was good due to the fact that it was really creative. The puzzles especially kept me hooked. The fact that I didn't even realize it's actually quite short. How can something be this short and good? I also like how they focus a bit more on Robert this time. He in an underrated character. Overall 9/10 Difficulty level 8.2/10
4-Underground Blossom
One of the best atmospheres of any Rusty Lake game in my opinion. I especially liked how we finally get to know more about Laura's past since every other game was focused on her death. Is the black figure in the game supposed to be herself? I never really understood why it was there. Also now that I think about it, no way the vanderboom generation ended in Laura. Alternate ending head cannon: Laura and Robert actually get married and their son/daughter(in the future) go find Dale to get the answers to his past. Could be good. Maybe... Overall 9.4/10 Difficulty level 8/10
3-Cube Escape: Birthday
This is kind of a bias as this was the first ever Rusty lake game I've played. We finally get to see Dale's past for once. They should've atleast mentioned the Grandpa in the later games cuz he is a goated character. Also why does the rabbit piss me off so much. I genuinely do not like him. I didn't like him in Paradise as well(if ykyk) It is still an amazing game and the only annoyance was cutting the cake. Overall 9.6/10 Difficulty level 8/10
2- Cube Escape: Paradox
The most creative one yet. I love how they decided to add the movie versions of the characters aswell in the game. It's funny cuz in the short film the characters in the TV are in their cartoony game form. Cool detail, not gonna lie. The only annoyance was the globe and mind puzzle which genuinely killed me inside. But the rest of the game is so good that I forgot about this. Chapter 2 is equally as good imo, maybe even better. I also like how in Chapter 1 they show you all the people who have worked and on the game. The movie also is kind of a walkthrough and there are some hidden details which took way too long for me to find out. Overall 9.8.10 Difficulty level 9/10
1-The White Door
Ik this is a hot take aswell but this game changed me. I never in my life was hooked till start to end in a game before. I especially like how it focuses entirely on Robert this time. I can genuinely see they put alot of effort into the making of this game and it's so fresh to see a completely different format than what they usually do. It's the perfect amount of difficult and it's not insanely hard aswell. It is so good. I still wish their relationship didn't just end like that. Such a great game this one. It definitely has a special place in my heart. Nearly perfect. Overall 9.9/10 Difficulty level 8.1/10

Operation: Find Via (Cosplay Meetup)
Heya imps, hellhounds, owlettes, and other denizens of hell!
I was wondering if there were any Helluva Boss cosplayers in the LA and Hollywood area that would be down for a meet up in a couple of weeks?
Being from the LA area, I really liked how Hollywood was portrayed in the 'Seeing Stars' episode. After my wife and I cosplayed for the first time at LVLUP Expo this year, we've been itching to do it again, so I had an idea.
I thought it would be really neat to get a small group together to meet-up and recreate images and video from the montage sequence, where they visit a bunch of landmarks.
Key locations: - Hollywood Blvd - Random souvenir shops - Hollywood and Highland Center (Dolby Theatre) - TCL Chinese Theatre - The Magic Castle - Universal Studios Globe - Lake Hollywood Park - Griffith Observatory
Would anyone be interested?
