2024.05.13 13:20 GeneralAviationIdiot Mini bagger platform

Ok deleted my last post because it was basically me rambling out my thought process.
I am looking to buy a newer (2015+) Harley for the first time. I've only ever owned shovel choppers and evos.
I'd like to build a FXRT/Lowrider ST style mini bagger out of it. I've sat on road/street glides. Its not for me.
What platform do you guys think would be best? I've been looking at the low rider S, street bobs, and dynas. I THINK I want the 114 motor but I'm gonna build whatever I buy anyway so warranties and what the VIN says isn't important to me.

2024.05.12 18:55 Useful_Intern4114 Rocket 3 Two Up?

Hello fellow riders! I’m one of those weird 30 year olds that’s only ridden Harley’s! Yes there are faster bikes for less money, sue me I like cruisers. HOWEVER, I’m looking for a bike that is more spacious compared to my Harley Sportster S for two up riding. I’ve loved the look of the Rocket 3. I’m very open to other bike suggestions. And any help in finding ways to test ride models close to me in FL. Why am I looking outside of Harley? Simply the prices for new baggers are insane and the bikes are quite heavy. I did test ride a ‘24 Street Glide and it’s a nice machine but it would require time in the saddle to get used to it. I stalled it on the test ride which is embarrassing, but I wasn’t used to the gear shift and didn’t realize I was pulling from a stop in 3rd gear. I did not drop the bike thankfully, so I’m happy that lightweight me can catch a bike that size. What are y’all’s thoughts?

2024.05.11 23:34 BlueLettuceBerry7 Guardian/Gremlin Bells on Sports Bikes

This is probably a dumb question but are guardian bells used on sports bikes? My partner has been riding for years and all the guys have Harley’s or Victory’s etc. All of them have gremlin bells and I’ve gifted quite a few over the years. Anyway I’m the odd ball girl and bought a sports bike. Because I’m used to riding with baggers/cruisers I’m not on the ins of the sport bike riders… are bells used?

2 into 1 bagger exhaust for midcontrols
For sale I have a SPB Fab 2 into 1 performance shorty exhaust designed for a 117ci or bigger motor. Will work with a tuned 114ci also. (M8 Harley Davidson bagger)
Brand new never installed, designed for mid controls and decided I ended up wanting to keep the floorboards.
Pipe was $2,300 after a 20% discount. Fully custom piecut welds, 1 of 1 exhaust. Asking $1,600!
Here’s a link for the exhaust minus the custom pie cut welds part.

2024.04.10 19:10 ShanghaiShootout New to Harley, looking at used options.

Super new to Harley, and I’m still trying to decipher their naming schemes for their models. Looking for a bike to log heavy miles on. I’m coming from a ‘16 Triumph Thruxton 1200 and I’d like something more comfortable with a big windscreen, maybe a bagger. Not a huge fan of the big batwing fairings on some of the bikes, but maybe I can be swayed. Not really big on the sound of the new M8 engines either, can anyone speak to how good those are compared to older engines like the Evo that are touted as the best? Any sought-after specific models and years I should be looking out for?

2024.04.07 21:09 Repulsive-Meal-4810 Don’t Fear the Bagger

Don’t Fear the Bagger
My second bike is this 2015 Harley CVO Limited. At almost 950 lbs, this thing is heavy!! I feel like I’m learning how to ride all over again. I’m coming from an Indian Scout weighing in at about 550 lbs. I’ve spent endless hours on the Indian practicing slow maneuvering in a nearby parking lot, and felt like I was ready to move up to a bigger, more comfortable bike. The CVO was it.
During this time, a read lots of books and watched lots of videos on how to practice. One thing I got from Motorman Jerry Palladino was positioning the clutch lever so the friction zone was close to grip. (Friction starts with only a small release of the lever). This is how I set up the Indian’s cable clutch, and this is what I’m used to feeling. Now enter the CVO’s hydraulic clutch. There is no way to adjust it, and the friction zone is so far out it feels very unnatural. Now combine this with the EITMS (Engine Idle Temp Management System), and the throttle is no longer responsive off idle until you blip the throttle and disengage EITMS. Ouch….its hard enough to make a right turn from a stop without all this!!
Now, the point of the story. The other day, still practicing in the neighborhood, I have a tight right turn on a narrow road. BTW….all the roads in my neighborhood are narrow, so not much of a choice to practice elsewhere. I go for the turn, but the throttle response wasn’t there. Neither was clutch engagement. The bike started falling to the right!! In a split second, I remember another Motorman lesson….If a bike is falling don’t try to stop it, let it fall. That’s exactly what I did. I jumped off without even falling to the ground landing on my feet completely unharmed ….except for ego. If I had tried to catch the bike, I most likely would’ve hurt or broke my ankle. I also installed plastic crash bar protectors front and rear. Bike has 0 damage or scratches. At first I thought…..wow, I’m stuck here…..how am I gonna lift this thing. Another Motorman lesson (No, this is not an advertisement, just my experience) he has this 98 lb woman lift a big 900+ lb bagger by herself. I thought, if she can do it it’s worth me trying. I’m not big and strong by any means….Im 5’6” 150 lbs. And yes I had to put a low seat and 1” shorter rear shocks on this thing to get me off my tippy toes. I get into position with my back to the bike, grab the handle bar and rear crash bar and start walking backwards. The bike came up waaaaay easier than I thought. After that, I hopped on and road her home.
First thing I did when I got home, I figured out how to disengage EITMS. Next, I ordered an adjustable clutch lever and clutch slave cylinder to allow cutch lever position adjustment, reduce clutch lever pressure and widen the friction zone.
Instead of walking away from this with fear of the big heavy bike, I feel empowered!! If I ever drop it again, I know I can lift it myself. And, if I leave the crash bar protectors on while I’m learning, I won’t even leave a scratch!! Awesome.
The moral of the story is….Don’t Fear the Bagger!! If I can ride it, anyone can!!
The only thing that could possibly make this post any better is of course…….MORE COWBELL!!!

2024.04.06 03:20 KelsoT7 Why are Harley riders so critical of their own brand?

So I’ve noticed lately whatever Harley comes out with everyone seems to bitch about it. But if you really take a step back they’re catering (or attempting) to every aspect of the market. You have the performance baggers, the new sportster with the rev max, the Pan America for the adventurers, the chromed out Softails, blacked out Softails, you even have the revival line for all the boomers.
I’m in quite a bit of hobbies that have brand loyalty just like Harley and this is the only brand where I see people complain so much when a new release is introduced. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

2024.04.02 01:24 Murneyy__ HD—> Dual sport ?

I’ve been riding for a few years & my first bike ever was a 09 HD sportster XL1200. I traded up for a 12’ Dyna and decided that 65hp wasn’t enough so I went ahead and made 120hp/130tq which was pretty amazing. I also had a 21’ roadglide for a year and I learned to hate it. It was like driving a car. No thrills. I missed the shenanigans I used to get into with my Dyna. Anyways, sold the bagger out of sheer spite & I focused on building my 87’ 4x4 Chevy Squarebody pickup & I really fell in love with off roading. Although I owned a YZ125 for a real short amount of time , my off roading experience on two wheels is very limited.
Im just throwing this out here to gauge some people’s experience with dual sport / super moto bikes. Anyone here ride both cruisers / baggers and switched to SuMo / dual sports? I’m looking into Husky’s 701SM / Enduro. Reality is , I ride mostly on the street but I’d like to hit some dirt whenever I can. I’m going to hit some stealerships & try some out. I don’t know anyone who are into these machines so please go easy on me lol.
All Harley baggers are 107 cubic inches & make their power all down low so I’m a bit lost on what a 400-500-600 or 700 cc bike would feel like. I like to go fast so if anyone could offer any input to point me towards the right direction, I’d be very appreciative!

2024.03.31 17:29 LMGDiVa Why do I feel like I'm the only one who "I just like bikes"? Why does it seem that every other motorcyclist has some stick up their ass about brands or categories. I genuinely do not get it.

My love of motorcycles is really easy and simple to sum up.
"I like bike!" that's about it. If it's a motorcycle, you bet your ass my eyes gonna light up all wide and "omg motorcycle!"
The numerous times walking down the street or riding in an Uber and I see a motorcycle my gf hears "look hun motorcycle." I'm sure this annoys her.
Two tandom wheels, some source of power, a seat and handlebars... MOTORCYCLE!
Yeah sounds pretty 4 year old discovered something they like, but that's kinda the thing. I've always just loved motorcycles I never lost that childlike? wonder and fascination with them.
They're fuckin cool. I love em.
But it seems everywhere I go in the motorcycle community, large amounts of people just... Are ANGRY that some other motorcycle type or brand exists. Someone mentions a type of bike and someone's gotta have a their stick up their ass about it.
If someone doesn't ride a harley "GOD HARLY SO SHIT," sport bike riders making fun of ADV riders and screaming about "cruisers are shit why do they exist". Harley riders saying "get a real bike" Indian riders making it their whole personality that they bought an Indian. Goldwing Riders being smug as shit towards literally any other fucking motorcycle on the road.
What the fuck is with you people?
It's a motorcycle, not a politcal statement. It's a motorcycle, not a religion.
The only give I've seen in the past years of this horse shit has been large amounts of Harley people I know who aren't exclusively HD anymore. A lot of them especially younger ones I've met and know have a harley as their main bike, and something like a Sport bike or ADV or Dualsport as a 2ndary or multiples.
I just... don't get it.
For me it's so fucking simple. A motorcycle is a motorcycle and it's a motorcycle. And because it's a motorcycle I love it and please can I ride it? I promise I wont drop it.
When my SO was visiting me and I saw the Kawasaki Demo Days was gonna be at a local dealership I practically "OH CAN WE GO HUN, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE" so I could ride a Versys 650 and Ninja 400RR. Same with the CFMoto demo day. Same with the Indian Demo day.
You telling me you'll let me ride a bunch of bikes for free? FUCK YEAH.
When I see there's a group ride going on, and If I can come along, fuckyeah I wanna come and see everyone's cool ass motorcycle!
Grom? Love it. SuperCub? Love it. Harley Fat Boy? Love it. BMW GS1250, love it! Triumph scrambler? Awesome. R1M? Sweet. Indian Scout? Great bike! MotoGP? Fuck yeah lets watch it! King of the Baggers? FUCK YEAH!
Why do I feel like I'm the only one who's like this? Why do I feel like I'm the only person that just likes all motorcycles?
Online and In person someone ALWAYS has to interject or hog attention by explaining why they dont like some fuckin bike or what not. And then someone else has to come in and start jerking them off for it. Who cares, fuck off. It's motorcycle.
It's absolutely fucking annoying. And I don't get it. People take this shit so seriously and bruh... ladies... gentlethems... THEY'RE MOTORCYCLES. WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH, JUST RIDE THE THING AND BE HAPPY SOMEONE ELSE PICKED A MOTORCYCLE TOO.

2024.03.23 18:48 ikerr95 Looking to upgrade

I am still on my first bike, a 2019 honda shadow. I love it to death, but I am looking into an upgrade. My budget is 10-15k, new or used. I love harley’s, and at some point i’d love to own a big bagger. However, harley’s big bikes are still quite a bit out of my price range, and even used they are quite expensive.
My number one option right now is the Sportster S. I love the looks, they way it rides, the power, everything. Used they are right in my price range. Another bike I’m looking at is the indian FTR. That bike is also beautiful, I haven’t ridden one yet but I am hopefully going to do so today.
What other bikes should I consider? I like style and looks over many other factors, but obviously rideablity and reliability are also huge factors to me. I also was thinking about the MT-09 or 07, but they look a bit odd to me. Thanks!

2024.03.10 19:54 Radiant_March_6685 Protective cover for 2011 Road Glide Ultra with attached tour pack.

Can anyone recommend a bike cover, other than an HD, that will completely cover my 2011 Harley Davidson FLTRU and attached tour pack? Had my 2013 Dyna FatBob for 4 years, friggn great bike too, but it was totalled. This time around I decided to go with something that has storage for long trips so I bought an 11 Road Glide Ultra. I'm picking up the bike in a few days and need a cover. Online, the largest I can find is 116"L which should be fine for length but I'm not sure of the bikes height with a tour pack on it? I don't want to have to take the pack off and put it on all the time and wondering if anyone out there currently has something that completely covers their bagger and t-pack while it's attached? If you do, can you provide me with the product name and dimensions.
Thanks

2024.03.07 08:54 ripw44 What is your biggest bagger?

A bagger being like a tenbagger meaning i netted 10 times my original investment.
Mine would be 174 bagger. Bought 20,000 shares of Sirius Satellite the day before the possibility of bankruptcy between .03 and .05 a share. Sold at $5.24. For an increase of 17366%. Paid off all my debt at the time and bought a Harley. Later lost everything I owned over a 3 year period through divorce, drugs, and ignorance in true wsb regarded fashion. So what about you? Tell me about your glory days (not glory holes)

2024.03.04 22:51 Kneesinthe_Breeze Why do people shit on Harley Davidson?

Growing up my uncle and grandfather rode Harley Davidson motorcycles. Softtail, vrods, dynas and fxrs were the motorcycles of common conversation and I had always been partial to liking the air cooled big V Twin motorcycles. I was a skateboarder and grew up watching the x games and loved watching the motocross and super cross races. Moto gp and bagger races were both fun to watch and the atmosphere is just like other sporting events. Games like Mx v Atv and tourist trophy were at the top of my list of racing games. I feel like so many shit on Harley Davidson and call them lame. We don’t over criticize the vehicles people drive and for some reason the motorcycle world seems to have a weird stigma about what people chose to ride. There is some over top stereotypical Harley riders and some guy want to cos play as if they were Jax teller. I’ve seen plenty of overweight riders, anime lovers, and other groups of people that look like they’re trying to be Valentino Rossi on their neighborhood streets. Harley isn’t trying to compete with the racing bikes so why do people continue to compare them or all together discredit the brand/ style of air cooled cruisers. So many people say ride what makes you happy, but I’ve heard so many people call Harley’s gay and clown their riders because the bike isn’t up to par with a particular sport bike.

2024.03.04 08:37 Journeyman-2023 Just bought My First Harley

Just bought My First Harley
I first started out on a 2008 Yamaha XVS650 which I built into a bobber and lowered as well as additional other modifications to suit my desired design for the bike. I’ve always loved baggers and wanted something bigger more luxurious and comfortable. I’m not into going fast not even in 4 wheel vehicles. Comfort is my number one thought when buying something to ride. So I went and did research for a while and narrowed my search between a Kawasaki Vaquero and a Harley Davidson. I went with the more expensive of the two obviously as shown here. Both are comfortable, reliable, well built, and beautiful bikes. But I felt more connected with the Harley. So here is my new to me bought from the dealership at Wildcat Harley Davidson in London Kentucky my 2018 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited.

2024.02.29 22:23 locust42069 I don’t know what I want for my next bike (not satire)

My first and current bike is a 96 Honda shadow 1100. I’ve had it for 2 years and I’ve put almost 15k miles on it. I love the bike but my only issue is it’s PAINFULLY slow, it’s fast enough that I can have fun going from stop light to stop light and keep up with other bikes in town. But I feel like the bike is giving me everything it has to offer at 90mph; I’ve been trying to get better at leaning and turns and I scrape peg constantly and despite all my efforts I’ve come to the conclusion a wheelie is impossible on a shadow. I’ve been saying for the longest time my next bike is going to be a GSXR or a Bussa; lately I’ve been thinking maybe I’d be happier on a Harley. I know there’s a very active community around performance baggers and stunting Harley’s, so that tells me I theoretically could do what I want to do on a Harley however I know a sport bike would be much better at it. I’m a relatively big guy (6 foot 240lbs) so I know a Harley would be more my size, but I just have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I just won’t have as much fun with a Harley as I would a sport bike. I think I’d ride a Harley more often because I’d be more comfortable. I’ve never ridden a true full fairing sport bike or anything bigger than my shadow (550 lbs) so I have no frame of reference to what they would be like. My plan is to go to my local Honda and Suzuki dealers and do some test rides when I’m ready to make a purchase. Any advice is appreciated thanks for reading this long

2024.02.09 18:58 unrealisticgenitals Finally looking at Harley any advice?

I started riding about 3 years ago, bought a cheap yamaha maxim that I haven't ridden as much as I'd like cause it breaks every week. I'm 5"11 and about 160lbs, wanting something a bit bigger so I can go touring with the boys this summer but I'm a bit intimidated by heavier bikes. I've ridden an 1100 vorago and it was fine but he had bobbed it so some weight was gone.
Never looked at Harley's as my dad was always a metric man and all my buddies are too but after testing a softail slim last year I can't help but say that was a hell of a bike. Sat on a few other softails but I am really liking the idea of a switchback or a roadking for in town use as well as long road trips. I know you guys get these posts 10x a day but any advice you wanna give pertaining to this?
Don't want a full bagger and I'm definitely willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort to save some size as I said I'm not a huge guy.
Side note on the softails I sat on the air intake was digging into my knee with the fwd controls and the slim I felt like I had to reach my leg to the max to shift the damn thing. So maybe mids preferred.

2024.02.04 07:15 era--vulgaris Is a 100W Stereo Adequate On A Wing?

I have a couple of 1983 GL1100 Interstates (one a runner, one a project). My bike is fully dressed ie fairing, full size windshield, bags, trunk, comfy seat, etc.
But, because it's an Interstate, I have no radio or stereo, nor the housing for one.
The auxilliary power connection is fused for 10A, which works out to right around 100w with a safe margin of overcurrent (12v x 10a - 20% = 96w). I see a lot of cheap 100w amps with waterproof speakers (sold as "motorcycle stereo systems") that would be really simple to mount up. Amp in a fairing pocket, power from the aux fused circuit with an inline toggle switch, speakers on the bars or under the windshield.
The question is, would I be able to hear them at freeway speed on a fully faired bike? Or do you need some crazy loud thing like the Harley bagger people tend to use? Because half the time those systems are only turned up because they run straight pipes and can't hear shit otherwise, not so much because of wind noise on the highway.
This is my first true "old man bike" ie fully faired and dressed tourer. I've never had a motorcycle with a stereo/radio before and have had quite a mixed experience when trying to use speakers or earbuds in my helmet (earbuds and plugs are bad for my ears unless custom-fitted and expensive, or too small and they fall out, etc).
So I'm looking forward to the experience of having a proper fairing to cut the wind noise down, a very nice factory exhaust note, and hopefully the ability to hear a radio/stereo, since the Aspencade trim level on this bike came with one.
Am I on the right track here? Because it is much quieter than anything I've ever ridden before when it comes to wind noise.
