2024.05.11 20:41 Olly230 Simplest way to "next gen" Minecraft for my kid

He puts hours and hours into the Kindle version. But he also plays AAA titles like sack boy etc on my PC.
I have gamepass with my phone contract so that means I get Java and bedrock Minecraft.
Id like to surprise him by saying he can play Minecraft on "the big computer" and it to look jaw dropping. I've seen heavily modded vids with water, RT and shaders, realistic textures etc.
I'm just looking for a little fun and was wondering the shortest list of visual overhaul mods to Uberise a Minecraft world.
I have a 4070tisuper so I can throw quite a lot at it.
Suggestions?

2024.05.11 14:37 rharu kobo clara bw issues Hyphenation in russian language books, pop-up font size, window reader disconnect

Hi there, just got new reader and faced with some issue right out of the box, want to ask if its me or there a way to fix those
1 ) Is hyphenation this still an issue on those books? I can't force to work with side loaded books which is in russian. English seems to work fine. I've used kindle for last 10 year never ever knew what "hyphenation" is and it always worked outside of the box. I've tried multiple side loaded books and getting same results.
Anyway, what I've tried:
2) kepub pop-up font size
nice cool feature with kepub which does not redirect you to the end of the book to read "footnotes" (or how you cold it?) and just opens pop-up. But the problem is I can't make font bigger is there a way to make it bigger or just match the book font?
3) PC connection
It seems like there issue with unmount/eject reader on my windows machine. When I do "eject" windows said - it save to unplug but reader continue to save "be careful disconnect before....". Is this just UI issue or reader is not actually unplugged and I can damage the reader?
Thank you all in advance!

2024.05.10 23:04 Elegant_Woodpecker10 COMO ESTOU CONFIGURANDO MEU CELULAR PARA SER MENOS VICIANTE. (DICAS)

Navegador:
Eu uso o Firefox Nighly.
Instagram:
Distraction Free Instagram:
https://www.distractionfreeapps.com/
Ele simplesmente deixa tudo preto.
https://search.f-droid.org/?q=reddit&lang=en
Pra quem quiser ver a lista, tá aí.
CONFIGURAÇÕES DE CELULAR
Baixar o que for necessário e desativar a Play Store, Youtube, e principalmente navegador Chrome.
Banco.

2024.05.10 19:12 Dergo32 Best way to backup Kobo with sideloaded books and annotations?

The Clara Colour is my first e-reader and I am loving it so far, but I have some frustrations with parts of my experience. I went with Kobo partly because I was concerned about relying on Amazon not to ban my account and delete all my books if they wanted to for whatever hidden reason, but with Kobo I'm sad there's no official way to sync or upload / download sideloaded books and their highlights + annotations to and from cloud storage (either their own service or something like Google Drive).
What is the best way to backup my Kobo so that I never lose my sideloaded books with their highlights and annotations, and how would I restore my Kobo from backup if it stops working?
I tried the Kobo Utilities plugin in Calibre but it says the book has no annotations (it can display a list of text I highlighted just fine though when I choose to "copy" them in the menu).
The annotations plugin is not useful for this case because all it does is clip out the highlighted text from the book, without page numbers or anything.
For now, I'm just going to do backups by copying and pasting the entire directory (including hidden files) of my Kobo to my PC, and if my Kobo stops working suddenly for whatever reason, I plan to just copy all the files back and hope that works and my highlights and books are safe. Is that the best way?
All this screwing around with the file system on the Kobo and trying to learn how to use Calibre is making me have buyer's remorse if Kindle is better after all (and I do know that Amazon doesn't have color e-readers yet). I really wish sideloaded books and their reading progress + highlights would also sync to and from my iPhone.

2024.05.10 16:49 irr1449 Please help: Legal notes, markup PDF, easy export PDF, general memorization

Hi All,
I've been researching eink tablets for a few days and I was just looking for some suggestions based on my use case. So far I've looked at
I don't consider price a factor given that they are close enough. I want whatever best suites my use case.
How I would use it:
  1. I have to take a lot of notes during Zoom meetings. I find taking notes on my PC, typing, just feels really "off." It almost feels like I'm not listening to the person talking in a way? It's hard to articulate. So #1 taking notes on Zoom calls. (Would love to hear anyone who feels similarly)
  2. Marking up PDFs and other documents. A plus, but certainly not a deal breaker, would be marking up Word or Google documents. If that's not possible, I could easily convert them to PDF and mark that up. (From what I've read the Kindle fails really bad with exporting marked up PDF)
  3. Saving PDF's. I will need to save these PDF's in the cloud for myself and others to read in the future.
  4. Ability to save onto Google Drive. This would be a HUGE plus for me. Everything we do is saved on Google drive. Having to save it locally and then move it would be cumbersome.
  5. This might sound weird but I have a medical condition (epileptic seizures) that impact my memory for a short time after I have a seizure. I really would like to use this device to take notes outside of work and not just at my desk/laptop. The smaller size of the Nomad is attractive (because it's more mobile), but then I'm wondering if it's too small to take regular work notes.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.09 06:44 ffutsxes Downloading Book by USB to PC - Message Question; Options for Unlimited Usage book

I know this has been addressed recently here, however, I have 1. A question about the message Amazon presents and it being inaccurate and 2. A question about downloading a book where the usage says Unlimited.
I've tried to download a Kindle book I just bought, but I can't because the message I get says: "You do not have any compatible devices registered for this content. Buy a Kindle or get the free Kindle reading app."
The full details for the book include this: Simultaneous device usage ‏ : ‎ Unlimited. My understanding of that is it means it is not protected content (DRM is the term?) which makes me believe I should have the ability to copy it and use it as I wish.
I do not have a Kindle, but I do have the free Kindle reading app (updated as of today) on 2 devices--PC (Windows 10) and an Android phone. The message does not say "You can only download this to a Kindle," which is what I read in replies here over the past few months as being the only way to download a book. It seems to imply, though it doesn't state, that it can be downloaded to a "free Kindle reading app."
I've read widely about this issue and tried adding the Kindle reader to my Android to see if I could download there as a different device to no avail.
The Simultaneous device usage ‏: ‎Unlimited claim makes me wonder if there is a way to download this specific book. Is there another option other than the USB download option?
Is it true that books can only be downloaded to a standalone Kindle device? If so, why doesn't Amazon say that in their message instead of their vague statement "Buy a Kindle or get the free Kindle reading app."
Thanks for any help and advice you can offer.

2024.05.08 13:24 breaktwister pdf reading plus note management on Kobo devices?

I have never owned an ereader, I have been using Kindle app and Calibre Companion/Moonreader on my phone for many years. I am now looking to purchase an ereader for the following tasks:
  1. Mostly reading non-fiction books which I have a lot in pdf format organised in Calibre on my PC.
  2. Ability to place short notes within the pdfs, mostly as reference points as I am researching my own book. I need to be able to search for all notes across all books and ideally have a full list showing all notes and all publications where the notes have been placed. I would call this "note management functionality".
I have watched a lot of review videos and been on the Kobo website but I have not seen note management covered in detail.
I do not need a large device, 6 or 7 inches is good, I do not need colour and I do not need stylus based note taking.
How is the note management functionality on the Clara BW?
** update: let's forget about pdfs for now and assume that I can get my books into a Kobo in kepub format, can I then manage or view all notes in a single place? As an example, on Kindle, using the Android app I can make notes in books I have downloaded from Amazon and see those notes in single list online, I can see the book, page line and the note content. However, this function is not, or does not appear to be available for books I import via sendtokindle app or email which are regarded as "docs" and not books.
*** Final update: I realised that I should have been searching for "export notes" rather than "note management". There are options available on both Kindle and Kobo to export all notes and highlights once finished with a book which can be further sorted/treated externally. Thanks all!

2024.05.07 14:49 Jazzlike-Compote4463 What would be the most cost effective way to get away from using my gaming PC?

I have been running my Plex server off my gaming PC for a few months now and I'm starting to wonder if there is a better option. I don't have a huge library (probably about 2TB total) but I like decent quality (2160p Dolby Vision / HDR for movies, usually at least 1080p for TV - both in HEVC to save at least a bit of space) I will probably be looking to expand the storage at some point.
I was wondering if I could buy a slightly older cheapo NAS and then connect it to my old i5 / 8GB Ram 2013 Macbook Pro which is sitting gathering dust to act as a server. Would this be likely to work?
Alternatively I could splash a bit more and get a dedicated NAS, but how much would I need to spend? I'm trying to figure out Synology's product naming scheme but there doesn't seem to be any sense to them!
I'll be running probably a maximum of 2 streams at once, one to my LG C1 OLED and one to a low powered Amazon Kindle Fire 8 tablet.

2024.05.07 14:02 ChickenSalad96 I'm struggling to buy ebooks off Amazon JP even though I live here. Any recommendations?

I'm really scratching my head over this! I've lived here since March, have a JP address and a JP phone number. I've placed orders on Amazon here with zero issue and for now have used the cash on delivery method. I even added my credit card information everywhere I could as well, and still nothing...
Despite this I still had to change my address manually to view JP content on the kindle following these instructions. Sadly, the 'transfer' button did not show up anywhere on the Amazon app itself nor the website version, and my Kindle app content is still US. Even trying to buy the damn books on the website version is being uncooperative, giving me physical-only options, but I prefer digital for my circumstances. What am I possibly missing at this point???
Another question that pops up is that on the Amazon app I can easily switch between US and JP, and my purchase history for both countries show up no problem. However when trying to log into my same account on PC, my JP purchase history is nonexistent! My wish list items I added from the app don't show up on the website either... That's another thing I'm trying to wrap my head around..

Edit: SOLVED! The solution is that you must create a new account exclusively with Amazon JP. Was able to buy ebooks, finally. Only concern was that it took a good 10 - 15 minutes before my credit card finally got charged and my content showed up.

2024.05.06 23:01 Coffeeninja1603 Which mini PC in the U.K?

Hello all. I’m looking for help regarding a mini PC I’ll be using for a Plex server. I currently use my desktop PC but I’d rather not leave that on all the time.
I need to stream 4K content to a 4K kindle firestick in my TV, and also support max 3 potential external streams for friends and family.
Anyone have any Amazon or eBay links to suitable options? Thanks in advance for any help.

2024.05.06 20:36 Reddit-mb I just got myself a Kobo Elipsa 2e... Very happy with it!

Well, I just bought myself a Kobo Elipsa 2e, after reading a lot of reviews, watching a lot of videos and overcoming some doubts. I probably spent way too much time on making up my mind, but it is fun to read all these different opinions...
I just wanted a large e-reader for comfortably reading and annotating pdf-files. Something that would help me to seriously reduce my pc and ipad screen time. While I was reading the reviews and watching the videos about e-readers, however, I got also more and more interested in digital note-taking. That did not make the choice any easier...
I considered the usual suspects:
And so, in the end, I chose the Kobo Elipsa 2e, mostly because:
The first impressions, after only two days, are very positive:
But, altogether, I am actually quite happy with this Kobo, a conventional choice, I admit, but that is no problem. Looking back, I wonder why it took me so long to make up my mind... I will have a second look at the reMarkable 2 later, that's just for the note-taking, but for now, the Kobo will also do fine for that.

2024.05.06 10:35 vxnmoon Is 140€ a good price for a used Kobo Libra 2?

Hi! My Kindle Touch 2012 just died yesterday. Actually, it does its job, just the port doesn't work for PC connectivity anymore and via email I spent the whole afternoon to load like 4 books.
However, I wanted to get a Kobo but the 2021 Libra is at MSRP for 199, and the new Color is 229...I really don't care about color, also because I saw on here that it's not that sharp, but I don't want to pay full price for a device that's 3 yo. I found a used Libra 2 for 140, do you think it is a nice deal?
Thank you!!
Edit: I wrote the wrong price for the Colour

2024.05.06 08:26 emilia_x Boox Palma Review

It’s been about 3 days since I received my Palma and would love to share some thoughts, pros and cons about it. I own a kindle for about 2 years and have been quite actively using it. I mainly read books, manga and webtoons.
This device is a godsend as I can read/download books and manga directly on my phone without using Kindle app or transferring from a PC. I know there are other devices which can do the same thing but the other pros made me love it.
Pros: - Android system meaning I can download any apps. - Small form factor makes bringing it out easier. No more fumbling around my bag when I want to read. - Really light and thin. - Volume button for page turning, having come from a kindle this is a game changer, I read my mangas and book so much faster and it’s so convenient. - Really snappy and fast. The performance and screen refresh rate is unmatched for a kindle, I felt like my kindle was made in 2010 as compared to this. Of course it doesn’t beat standard mobile phone since it’s only 6gb in ram and running an older android version. - Customizable, lock/home screen, display settings like color adjustments and refresh rate. - Expandable storage.
Cons: - Not the best display in terms of contents and durability. I haven’t had any issues with the durability but from other reviews and looks of it, it does look fragile. The display is not the best when displaying pictures but reading manga is fine. - No dark mode for system UI. I am not 100% sure about this but I am unable to use a dark background due to the home screen texts such as clock and app names being black. - Case sucks. The free case given is a cheap silicone case that scratches easily and makes my popsocket not adhering well, might also be due to it being an old popsocket from my kindle. - Headphone jack? missing. - Price ain’t it. 💸 - Keeps asking me to sign into my network, not sure if this is a firmware problem that needs to be fixed but this only happens with my Palma. - Wish I could scribble or write on this device. - Lack of SIM card, many might argue that having a SIM card defeats its purpose but I would love to have internet so I can browse reddit on the go without hotspot.
The battery life is something I am not sure about but it does last longer than a phone shorter than a kindle. Palma gets relatively hot when browsing extensively with WIFI.
TLDR If you want a phone sized e-ink device to read books, news, manga, etc… on the go, this device is for you.

2024.05.05 05:26 Wambo74 Change in Return Early

I borrow on a PC and xfer to my Kindle. For the first time I today was unable to return a finished book early on the PC. Instead got a window saying to delete from my Kindle or Amazon, which I did. 2024.05.05 01:25 Flashy-Simple5790 ReMarkable 2 vs Kindle Scribe vs Boox Note air 3

Hi, I'm heading to college next year, and I want to buy an e-ink tablet for notetaking. I am currently trying to choose between the ReMarkable 2, the Kindle Scribe and the boox note air 3, but it's a hard choice to make. My main concern with the remarkable is not enough storage space, but that should be resolved with the cloud storage, but is it still a good device after 4 years? I've also heard good things about the Kindle, but I don't like the fact I can't acces the notes on pc or my smartphone. It seems like the boox does it all, but I do find the price a bit too steep. Anyone who can help me with this decision? Thanks!

2024.05.04 17:40 PureArachnid5964 Kindle does not show latest additions

Has anyone encountered this glitch? Paperwhite 10th Generation. I usually update my library with mobi files that I add manually from the PC. The latest batch I added does not show on the Kindle (although I can see the files just fine when I connect the Kindle to the PC again). I thought the files could be damaged and tried uploading an older book, which I read before and then deleted from the Kindle. It does not show in the library either! Searching for these files on the Kindle also produces no results. Three restarts and software update to 5.16.8 brought no effect too. Please help?

2024.05.04 16:49 breaktwister Best ereader 2024?

So many options out there it is confusing.
I have a Calibre library built over years that I keep in OneDrive and access via Calibre Companion on my phone. I did it this way as I worked away from home a lot which I no longer do, so I am in the market for first time purchase of an ereader for relaxing at home.
I see from other posts that the Kobo range has good integration with Calibre but not wirelessly which is odd. I would not like to keep plugging the device into my PC for new books.
Can I use my OneDrive Calibre library with Kobo?
I am looking at the Clara BW as I do not need anything fancy, just an upgrade from reading on phone. Also looking at the basic Kindle but then I would have a Calibre library and a second Kindle library which is not ideal I guess.

2024.05.02 21:03 WilliamTee Only 1 add-on showing in market on kindle fire (Bedrock)

Only 1 add-on showing in market on kindle fire (Bedrock)
My kid and I play Minecraft together. He has a Kindle Fire tablet and a Chromebook, I have a PC and laptop.
With the recent addition of add-ons we wanted to add some to our worlds. Normally any paid mods/add-ons I either host or play on a realm we play together. He has restrictions on his Microsoft account when it comes to purchases, and it's just easier to buy them for myself and host them (anyone else found purchasing in MC via Microsoft Family absolutely awful?)
However, given there are a number of free add-ons I figured there's no reason he couldn't download these to add to his own worlds. These are available on both my devices, his laptop, but only Poison Potato appears on his tablet.
Given this is the device he uses to play Minecraft the most, that's a shame.
Can anyone offer any explanations or suggestions to fix this?
Assistance appreciated 👍
