[TOMT][GAME] Card/Drinking Game Where You Bet How Many of A Mystery Category You Can Name

2023.10.14 22:54 BrookerTheWitt [TOMT][GAME] Card/Drinking Game Where You Bet How Many of A Mystery Category You Can Name

Game is played with a group of people. I played it as a drinking game in college but it doesn't require drinking. Someone would draw a card and it would have a category on it and they would say how many things in that category they thinking they could name. Then play would go around a circle with everyone else in the group saying a higher number of things they could name in that category with only the person who started the turn knowing what the category is. Eventually, someone would call bullshit on the person before them and the category would be revealed and the last person to call a number would have to either name that many things or take a number of drinks equal to the number they couldn't name (so if you named 12 dog breeds but you said 20 you'd have to take 8 drinks). What's the name of this game? All I know is that a college friend of mine bought a card pack of it in Europe and that's how it got into my college friend group and we began making our own cards for it.
Searching google all I can find is scattegories or the "categories" game where people go around in a circle naming things in a known category but the main point of this game is people are betting on how many things in an unknown category they can name.

FAQ

I live in Colombia/Canada/Belize/USA, why are you posting on a Saturday?!
Because I'm writing this from Europe in the future where it's already Sunday. Timezones be crazy.
Why are there a bunch of non-board games in the board game list?
Because the Tabletop games category on Kickstarter includes anything remotely related to board games and sometimes things slip through my filters.
Why is this future award winning board game and literal saviour of humanity missing from your list?
Sometimes my filters get a bit overzealous and discard actually valid projects. If you feel something is missing for this reason, leave a comment and I'll add it (maybe).
Can I donate all my money to you?
No
Can you help me promote my game?
Please no. I make lists. Nothing more.
Your list is full of errors and now the Internet is full of cats!
Indeed, this fine piece of code runs purely on Reddit karma, so anything can happen. Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.

2023.06.23 06:42 KittenTablecloth Does anyone know the name of the game they were playing S9E7 when Raquel couldn’t come up with any answers?

You rolled a colored die and then pulled a corresponding card. Some cards were like Scattegories type prompts, but another deck had prompts like “give an HJ to the most phallic object in the room” or a round of never-have-I-ever. Looked super fun and I’d like to pick up a copy!

Location: Florida, Tampa
Orientation: Heteroromantic Asexual
Seeking: monogamous long term relationship/marriage. Sex indifferent, but physical affection is needed.
Height/Built: 5'5", athletic
Personality: Meyer Briggs would say ISTJ-T, but I'm fairly balanced on the T/F scale so ISFJ is quite me as well. Also a proud Hufflepuff.
Activities/Interests/Hobbies: the beach, swimming, skating, hiking, bike rides, traveling (international but domestic too), reading, Lego sets, puzzles, cards, games (Mexican Train, Scattegories, Rummy-based, etc), roller coasters, baseball, hockey
What I want: Someone active, takes care of himself, and wants to do more than sit on the couch all weekend. Excited to travel and experience the world and cultures. I do not want children of my own but I'm ok with kids from a previous relationship.
Deal breakers: Any drug use including but not limited to smoking (cig, vape, cigar), 420 and excessive drinking. Long beards - a little scruff is tolerable but I usually prefer clean shaved.

2022.06.03 14:36 notyouraveragedogmom Legally married but still want to have a party

Like the title says, and I think a lot of other people have done, my husband and I got married last year privately, but are still wanting to have some sort of party. I’m thinking somewhere between a vow renewal and a wedding. I was hoping to get some thoughts or additional suggestions of what we could do. Here’s what I have so far:
-The general vibe I’m going for is “fancy family party”. Sundresses, nice sandals, khakis, etc. I know some of my husbands family will probably push it but that’s ok.
-I’m not planning on doing a DJ or flowers. Hoping to find someplace that we can let the space speak for itself from a decoration standpoint. We’ll have music based from a public Spotify playlist (risky, but could be fun). We have enough outgoing people who would attend that could MC the few things we might need a speaker for.
-I’m planning on putting games (like uno, scattegories, a couple decks of cards) on the tables to give people something to do other than eat/drink/chat.
I think those are the key points. Anything I missed? Is it an awful idea?

2022.02.08 21:10 ekinder Board Game/Card Game Meet-up

Hi Sioux Falls!
I was browsing the Parks and Rec catalogue for upcoming events, and I saw they have board game and card game nights for seniors but not all adults. Let's change that! I would love to support Game Chest, but personally, I am interested in more card-type/word games (Phase 10, Scattegories, Sequence, Code Names).

To start a group, would anybody be interested doing a meet-up to play Phase 10 this Friday (February 11)? Based on interest, we can determine a time and place, but I am thinking maybe 7 pm at the Source? I have one deck, but depending on how many are interested, we may need more. (Also, given we are still in the midst of a pandemic, I am fully vaxxed and boosted, but I am still happy to wear a mask if people would be more comfortable)

A little bit about me, so you know who you are joining! I am a 27F who works in public health. I have a 1.5 year old Shiba (who runs the house) and we love going on walks on the bike trail and parks around the area.

2022.01.27 18:30 shaybean96 Bridal Shower Game Prizes?

Hello! I'm trying to figure out how many prizes to buy for bridal shower games (and maybe looking for ideas of what to buy). There will probably only be ~15 people there as I'm trying to keep it small
We are going to be playing 2 games: •What did the groom say? -I will try to guess what my fiance answers were to questions about me and people have to guess how many I'll get correct. •Scattegories -we will have people think of wedding related words for either my name or LOVE and we will see who can fill out the whole card first (or maybe the first 2/3?)
Any advice appreciated, my grandma keeps asking me and I really have no idea lol. Thank you for your help!
ETA: mostly I'm trying to figure how much to buy, I definitely appreciate the ideas of what to buy but it's hard to decide that until I know how many. I figure maybe one for Scattegories (though maybe that's risky?) And idk how many for the guessing game in case multiple people get it right 😂. Would 4 be excessive?? I've never been to a bridal shower before so I just have nothing to go on.

2021.12.08 22:03 BoardgamesArchivist Easy and fun game for family gathering with my aging dad

http://www.reddit.com/boardgames/comments/rbtpr8/easy_and_fun_game_for_family_gathering_with_my/
Hey boardgame fans! I'm taking my chance here to ask for recommendations for any game that is easy to learn and play.
We are a small family (5 persons) and on every christmas we play games.... but in fact we alway play the same game: Scattegories. It's the only game we own that my dad can understand. He was also able to play the french version of Cards against humanity (but this game is just not that funny).
He's not that old but have a very heavy cancer that is taking a cognitif and physical toll every years. So he does have somewhat of a hard time understanding abstract rules. One time we tried Jungle Speed (I thought ''it's just reflexes and images'') and he lost so bad (at least everybody was laughing)! He can't read or spell too good either and doesn't have good reflexes. I was thinking about something like Ticket to Ride which is fairly easy to understand, not too fast a gameplay either, but thought that you guys here might have other recommendations.
My husdand suggested A Fake Artist in New-York which is cute and since not expensive would allow to bring more than one game so little card or dices based game suggestions in that vein are also welcome.
Thank you so much in advance and merry holiday season to all of you!

2021.09.08 19:54 PapaOwl_Esquire Been in the community for about a decade - here's what I got

Been in the community for about a decade - here's what I got
Hey all. I finally got around to re-organizing my collection, and I felt pretty proud about my Tetris-ing. Here is a list of all the games in the photo (from left to right):
------------TOP ROW------------
Bohnanza - Don't play it enough. The game is good if there are competing negotiations, but that only happens with a lot of people. With a high player count, I would opt to play something else.
Coup - Silly bluffing game. It made me realize that I'm not a big fan of bluffing games; you either lie, or you don't lie. That's the whole mechanic.
Cyclades - Out of the Matagot trilogy, this is the one I've gotten most on the table, and it's my favorite by a slim margin (with Inis and Kemet tied for second). The best part of the game in my opinion is the auctioning step, so I don't see the appeal in the expansion that takes the focus away from that (looking at you, Titans).
Love Letter - Quick and easy. I use it as a drinking game.
Blockus - Only a 2-player version that I got from 5 Below (did you know they now sell things for over five dollars? It's ridiculous - borderline blasphemous). It's fun, but every time I play the game, I'm worried I will lose a piece and render the game worthless. I can't afford to lose my five dollars.
Boggle - Truly the superior word game. It's abstract - none of that Scrabble (un)lucky-letter-draw BS.
DALLAS? SA-LAD.
Mr. Lister's Quiz Shootout - Someone got this game for me as a birthday gift, and I have no idea what to do with it. Trivia game where teams list as many things under the Trivia category. No, it's not Scattegories. They legally can't call it that (source: I'm an attorney).
Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - One of my favorite things about board games is player interaction. I have a problem with the idea of one person being silent the whole time. Plus, some of the clues are not helpful in any circumstance. I like it better than vanilla Mafia, but I would opt for a different game.
Inis - I like the mechanics of this game a lot. It was actually one of my favorite games in my collection at one point in time.
Codenames - Another game that requires a key person to be completely silent. The game is fun, but I imagine the experience is very dependent on who is giving the guesses.
After Dinner Trivia - Basic deck of trivia cards. Not worth opining on.
Forget It! (hidden in top row) - Push-your-luck dice rolling game. Got it for free. Not sure what to do with it.
Jaipur (hidden in top row) - I actually was a victim to a knock-off version purchase of Jaipur. Still, it's an awesome 2-player game. Check it out on Board Game Arena if you don't know anything about it.
------------MIDDLE ROW------------
Quantum - It's fun and gets on the table a lot, but the upgrade cards are wildly imbalanced. Some would argue that is just part of the game and in part is what makes it fun. Others would say that the "Cosmic Encounter Argument" does not apply to all imbalanced games.
Santorini - There is a reason why it's so highly rated on BSG. Playing it either purely as an abstract or adding in the cards is always a good time. I've never had a bad time playing Santorini.
Dominion - OG edition. I've played it too much to want to keep playing it, especially when I don't have any expansions.
Viticulture - This is one game that I always want to play but rarely get onto the table. I try to pick my games based on new mechanics (Cyclades for auction, Kemet for area control, BSG for traitor mechanic), and this fills the spot on the shelf for worker placement. The mechanic of splitting up meeples between two phases of a round is really smart and makes the game a real original. I never played it with a full play count...but I wanna'.
Citadels - This game I have played with a full play count, and sitting around waiting for the draft to come to you is agonizing. I wouldn't play it with more than 5 for that reason, and yet, it would also not be fun to play it with less than 4. Fun game when you do get to go; based on anecdotal data, the Player 1 card successfully snipes a player about 40-50% of the time.
Arctic Scavengers - This is a game that does not get enough love, both from me and from the board game community. It had its 15 minutes of fame when big box came out, and then it fell off the face of the Earth. I would play it over base game Dominion.
Container - This is my most recently purchased game and the one game I have not yet played. If you periodically scour the Internet, you can find at least one store that sells any OOP game (except, y'know, RIP BSG and RIP all Knizia games published before 2018). I'm excited for a tight economy game, though I heard that the economy only runs as well as the players in it. I hope my friends are smart enough.
------------BOTTOM ROW------------
Quoridor - Snagged this at a thrift store - this is my favorite thrift store find. It's the one of the few games that I own that my wife is open to playing, so it holds a special place in my heart. I feel like I play the strategy all wrong, which is why I'm afraid to play the game competitively on Board Game Arena. My strategy at least works well enough to beat my wife (at the game...bad choice of words), so I'll keep my blissful ignorance.
Monopoly - Every once in a while, I play this game by myself - just rolling and buying - as a form of meditation. As an actual game, there are a lot of flaws, but you guys know that already. For example, people who go last are immediately at a disadvantage. There should be an oscillating order of turns (whatever the official name for that is), like in the beginning of Settlers of Catan.
Things (in wooden box) - Don't play it a lot; there are other party games worth playing instead...
Snake Oil - ...like this game. I have not laughed harder than when I play Snake Oil. My favorite part about this game is that - as a fellow introvert - it gives me the structure and forum for practicing extroversion.
Splendor - I like it, but I'm terrible at it. I think the problem is that when a new card is flipped, it is something pretty and shiny and I want it, so I scrap my entire plan to go for that new card.
Hive - Haven't played it in a long while, but back in the day, it's all I played. I think it's a modern classic.
Bang! The Dice Game - This is one of those games that I just don't get. It's a hidden role game, but the roles become immediately apparent whether you are helping or shooting the Sheriff. I've resigned it to drinking game status.
Hansa Teutonica - There are two people in the world. People who have played Hansa Teutonica...and the plebs. It satisfies my fetish for emulating a 16th century German merchant.
Kemet - I'm all about area control games; El Grande is on my to-buy list. There is one problem with it though. When teaching people the game, new players don't get a hang for which powers are good, and which are not part of their strategy. By the time they do get it, the game is over, and I've never been in a situation where people want to play the game twice in a row. Once people get beyond that hump, it is a tight game that finishes way faster than you anticipate.
Survive: Escape from Atlantis (with expansion) - It's silly and fun. If and when I have kids, this will be one of the first games I will bring to the proverbial and literal table. Otherwise, it's a little too random for my tastes.
Chess/Backgammon/Checkers set - Chess cool. Checkers dumb. I don't get backgammon - it seems like towards the end game, it always comes down to a specific dice roll.
------------NOT PICTURED (obviously couldn't fit in this shelf)------------
Tigris and Euphrates - This was my favorite game that I owned until I bought Hansa Teutonica. This game is brutal. Based on my personal plays, there appears to be a runaway leader problem - especially playing with 2 players - but when a huge upset does happen, it makes the game.
On that note, I've been in the closet for a while now, but I think I feel comfortable enough with you all to come out and say it: I like Yellow & Yangtze more. More stuff happens. More player interaction. Call me a glutton, but I like more.
Battlestar Galactica (with Daybreak Expansion) - Traitor games and bluffing games require people who can really bluff and...trait. When you play with people who can do that, the game is great. When you play with people who say, "I'm a Cylon" on Turn 1, well, it's meh. In terms of expansions, I wish I got Exodus over Daybreak.
Tsuro of the Seas - Tsuro in general is too random for me; you can only think one or two steps ahead based on your draw. At least Tsuro of the Seas leans into the randomness more. I resigned it to a drinking game. DRINK ON DRAGON. DRINK ON DRAGON.
-------------
Hope you enjoy!

2021.05.26 19:10 catsypline10 Finding a Fun Friend Group!

Hey!
I've been looking to form a close friend group to hangout with on a regular basis! As long as things trend in a positive direction, hopefully, we can start to safely meet in the near future and potentially add more activities and things to do after that too! Admittedly, I am an introvert at heart. Covid has provided me time to reflect and think about myself where my headspace is at and who I'd like to be. Ultimately, I'd like to break out of my comfort zone, be more of a "say yes" type person, try new things and meet new people (safely, of course). I've discovered that I no longer want to be a hermit 90% of my time!
I like to stay active - Walk, run (5-15km), workout, play sports (by that I mean: throw a [insert sport object] around. Perhaps, frisbee, football etc.) Or would also be up for playing an actual sport! Volleyball, bocce bocce ball, spike ball etc. (I see people play this all the time and it looks like fun!) Also, up for hiking (only been a few times but would be open to tag along if someone is more knowledgeable) and exploring the city and the surrounding areas! Checking out fun stores, views and eventually, restaurants etc.
I like to play music/listen to music/go to concerts - I've been writing and recording my own acoustic album during covid (and used to play in a few bands before moving here). I play guitar, piano, ukulele and sing a bit). So if anyone likes to sing or play too, it would be fun to start an outdoor group and play covers or something! Perhaps, at the beach! I'm into all kinds of music from pop to metal to rap to jazz to throwback emo to old school 90s jams and even Disney classics! Anyone who's interested in music, music theory and the like is always a bonus!
(Generic) I like to eat food - Ramen, burgers, tacos, ice cream (unfortunately, I'm lactose intolerant but I like to think I'm living on the wild side with all that risk taking 😂). I love Vietnamese and Thai food too! Hoping to form a group (again, once things get better) to try new places/cuisines every so often!
I like to learn: new languages (if you speak Cantonese or Mandarin (HELP) or wanna learn together, let me know), learn new skills (I'm an amateur painter), photography (n00b), music production (ultra n00b), new instruments, new sports and activities, learn about people and their history/experiences!
I also like these random, scatter brained things: comedy (comedy shows), technology, board games (Risk, Mahjong, Boggle, Scattegories etc.), card games (Cribbage, President/A*shole, Uno/Crazy 8's) some video games, being creative (creating content)/arts and crafts, talking about life/morality, personalities (I'm an INFJ), philosophy, growth mindset/positive vibes, read books, religion, space, science/biomedical science, investing, saving and trading (new to it), cooking (I bought an instant pot recently!), watching almost all sports/UFC, boxing, singing Disney jams, watching TV shows, movies (I actually miss going to the movies, oddly! Overpriced popcorn and tickets? Heck yeah!), tea, among many other things!
A "fun" fact about me: I get sleep paralysis! (Which, I guess, isn't necessarily "fun" haha). For those who don't know, it's typically when you fall asleep and wake up suddenly, however, your brain is "awake" and "conscious" of your surroundings but your physical body is "paralyzed" (you can't move, despite trying your absolute hardest to even wiggle a finger or scream something).
Odd (but not odd) things I also like to do: - People watch (occasionally eavesdropping on funny conversations 🤣). - Sit in a comfortable silence on occasion and enjoy the present moment!
Please feel free to message me to chat more to see if we would get along first! I have Discord (I can form a group if there's enough traction to do certain stuff) and various social media platforms as well, if one would prefer that.
Lastly, if it matters, I am 29M and fully vaccinated (2x, since January/February). All love and no hate, doesn't really matter who you are so don't hesitate to reach out.
Thanks for reading and apologies for the long post! :)

2020.05.17 16:44 il-duce What to do on Zoom with clients?!?

So i am seeing a couple clients and doing their sessions via Zoom. I work mainly in paediatrics or will older adults with intellectual or developmental delays. I have been doing zoom for a few weeks now but now i am completely stumped. I like to use play and games to shape my sessions given the clients im working with. Does anyone have any ideas about any games that can be played either physically or online. Whenever i look online it is the stock standard games like scattegories/charades/cards which doesn't really work with my client base.

2020.05.05 16:54 Elhorm Free (preferably browser) games to play with a group of 4+ non-gamers

I'm looking for more games to play together with my friends as we voice-chat. We meet in a group of 4-8 people with different level of experience with gaming. I'd love to expand on the games we already play because playing the same thing over and over again gets old real fast. I'd prefer free and browser based games but if you have any suggestions on downloadable ones or paid ones that only one person has to buy (sort of like Jackbox games), I'd love to hear them.
Some games we already play:

2018.10.26 05:12 anxiously_teaching Multiple Questions

Hello everyone, I have a few questions regarding my class this year.
TL/DR: I have 3 questions - 1) I feel like I've lost control of my class, how do I earn their respect back? 2) How do I help transition students who only speak Spanish to English? 3) I need ideas for board or card games!
Background: This is my third year teaching, I am teaching a 4th and 5th grade combo class, I have a full-time aide (who is AMAZING), and 30 students who are all second-language learners reading, on average, at a first grade level. I have the lowest of the low for both grade levels. I leave every day exhausted and stressed, but I start everyday with, "This is the day! This is the day they will finally figure it out!!" I did not have my aide for the first 3 weeks, which I think contributes to the mess my class is right now - but what's done is done and I have to deal with what I have.

Question 1: I feel as if I've lost control of the students even though I have my set routines, procedures and rewards/consequences. It's at the point where of the 30 students, at least 10 of them are known behavior students since kindergarten. I have spoken to multiple colleagues who have said, "ohhh I had 2 of them and couldn't teach" or, "oh I had 2-3 of them and it was literally the worst class I've ever had to teach". Now...I have all of them. It's becoming a joke to them when they get into trouble and they are all trying to out-do each other. I can only take away so many minutes from them because I need my break before I lose my mind. I feel like they don't respect me or my aide as they just laugh when we discipline them. My aide has a lot more experience than I do as she used to run the after school program for many years. Neither of us know what else to try. We have at least 6 or more incentives, we have called parents on a weekly basis, some of them have behavior contracts, and I send home weekly behavior reports. I've also had multiple parents come and sit with their child for part of the day. What can I do to feel like I have their respect again? I don't yell, but I have been getting stricter with them. I can narrow down the 10 behaviors to about 5 "ring-leaders" but once those 5 get going, everyone joins in.

Question 2: Two of my students only speak Spanish. I speak some Spanish but am not fluent, my aide speaks Spanish as well. Between the two of us and my other students, we can translate 98% of the material. The problem is, I have no idea how to begin transitioning from them speaking, reading, and writing in all Spanish to being able to understand English. One of them knows some English and is very eager to learn. My other student had his "quiet" period which all the research has mentioned, and now he is starting to act out (as my class has been less than stellar as far as being a good role model - see above). He has even told us that he does not want to learn English. It's not the fact that he's isolated, as all of my students speak Spanish as well and include him in all the class activities (translating as best as they can). Should I tell my other students to start using English around him? Whenever I try to use a mix of English and Spanish he just acts super confused and everyone immediately jumps in to translate (even when I ask them not to). I have him on an online program, but he's just resistant. I also have him in a small group where we work on phonemic awareness and it seems to be helping, but I just don't feel like I'm doing enough for him or my other student. Is there anything else I can do?

Question 3: I've been given some money to buy academic games in my classroom. Any suggestions to help build reading fluency, accuracy or to help with number sense/math? I've already requested boggle, yahtzee, scrabble, bananagrams, scattegories, and quibbler.

Thanks in advance for the help!

2018.10.05 00:53 ctuwallet24 Rest of the season: AHS Fanboy Edition

Wild (and not very serious) theory:
Murder House happened as we saw it.
A very short time after the scene where Constance asks “what am I going to do with you”, she brings Michael to Billie Dean (whose appearance in the episode likely means that Cordelia died in the previous episode or otherwise does not appear). They also live at the Murder House now for reasons.
She something something something the child has powers and calls for someone to come, an expert and explains the whole Supreme thing. As Sarah Paulson sits with Jessica Lange and we await the first ever Paulson-on-Paulson-without-sharing-a-body scene, Fiona walks in instead. Coven hasn’t happened yet and Constance and Fiona meet face-to-face.
Billie Dean leaves them alone (to be alive in 2022) and Constance is immediately killed by Fiona. After the commercial, Ghost Constance asks Fiona why, and she says that she knows the prophecy of the Alpha and she’ll be damned if a man takes anything from her or hers. Fiona then attempts to kill the child and fails. This is why she was dying at the beginning of Coven.
Coven then happened as we saw it. So did Hotel, complete with Devil’s Night 2022 ending.
The next day, Halloween is happening. Ms. Meade (who only experiences Major Life Events on Halloween) is doing Satanic shit AT THE CORTEZ, killing her 3rd husband as a sacrifice. Satan (Mary Eunice, WTF not) opens a portal to the Murder House where she kidnaps Michael in his sleep (played by Ozzy actor).
Another portal opens to a place where they will never be found... the past, where no one is looking. He sleeps through it all and when he wakes she tells him that his friends and family abandoned him. Dinah (because why not) helps Ms. Meade as point-person with the whole financial/needs reality of having to be a different person in a time and world where past you also exists. She was around Michael growing up and taught him voodoo. She’s tight with Legba, fan service all around. Because Satan, Michael causes Apocalypse. Sets up flashbacks from Episode 4.
The Halloween night at the bunker is 2021, and it doesn’t go well for the girls. Michael kills everybody but Madison who is a double/triple agent. After he leaves, Twinkothy and Emily both spontaneously exhibit Resurgence. Twinkothy is the Alpha and Emily is possessed by Scattegories (because she figured out who she was because of Reality TV and wanted to see where her mom Lee died).
These awesomely overpowered boring kids, they hunt Michael and Madison down for a year. On Halloween, they find Madison working on a secret spell to stop Michael. It is on this day (Halloween 2022) where Meade did that stuff at the Cortez. Alpha Twinkothy is sacrificed to get Snapchat’s magic going hard, and Madison is sent to the other timeline. There, she kills Meade between portals and banishes the Devil somehow. (Erasing the “present day” scenes of Apocalypse.). Madison takes Ozy-Michael by car back home to the Murder House where she hits it off with Tate. She casually says the drive was hell, then asks out loud if this means there is another version of her, in hell, right now.
In a final montage, we see that there is. Then, Queenie plays cards with March (trapped forever). Twinkothy is clueless about his magic and in College, but Emily/Slapbet finds him (aware of the other timeline). All is well at the Coven, but Michael Langdon still sleeps in the Murder House, a looming future threat once more.
The end.

Seriously, we're glad to have new people show up, more people means more players and more players means we get to play more games, something we all love. Don't sweat it if you don't know any boardgames besides monopoly either, we love teaching our awesome games to people. Heck, when I went to the first of these gamenights 4 years ago, I didn't know anything more complicated than Catan, but people taught me a few games, I got hooked and now I run this crazy group. So feel free to show up, and when you do, walk right up to any group playing games and introduce yourself, ask questions about whats being played and get involved! See ya tonight!
Upcoming Anniversary Shenanigans: 10 days left till the big party!! I'll be accepting donations for the raffle prize pool again tonigh. Last year's was pretty awesome and I'm hoping to do even better this year so if you have any games or nerdy things you would like to donate either bring them to gamenight or get ahold of me to plan some other way for me to get them! Any game donations earn free raffle tickets! Speaking of tickets... I will have them available to buy THIS week. The price this year will be $5 for 1 ticket or $10 for 3, just like last year and as always, every dollar raised will go back to the group in the form of prizes and food at the anniversary party! GET HYPE!

I will also be placing a large game order Friday with the money raised last week and tonight so stay tuned for more games to join this list!

2016.08.31 09:27 kiwipi Games that overcome language differences

I looked around at some of the lists, but I still wasn't really quite sure which would be good, so sorry if this kind of question's been asked a lot!
So I live in a foreign country where I sometimes get together with other English speakers, and I was looking for a good game that won't get old real quick that all sorts of people would enjoy.
Also, sometimes I have casual get togethers at my office where people will come to learn English - this is mostly just casual conversation, short games where they are forced to talk/listen (so not a quiet card game)... Or... we'll just play it not in English if they don't speak any. Are there any good games that would be fun for this type of group as well?
So far, I was thinking Bananagrams might be a good game - it's fun for English speakers, and for non-English speakers, too, if they group up together. But I also think it might get boring really quick, and it does seem to be more on the quiet end. My friends like it too, but we rarely play a second round - and the first round isn't even that long!
Basically, just looking for fun games for all adult audiences that people won't get bored of too quickly - and will make them want to play again and again!
Stuff I've tried with high school students here in English -> Scattegories, apples to apples, taboo, bananagrams, jenga. The most successful ones were bananagrams and jenga. The rest were pushed aside after 1-3 gos.

2015.04.27 10:49 Deleriant Looking for a room for a couple.

My awesome girlfriend and I are looking for a place around the Annerley or Woolloongabba area. We're super friendly and fun. We enjoy our privacy but also like to socialise and have a drink or two. We enjoy our board games and binging TV shows in our free time. Lately we've been playing Scattegories and Cards Against Humanity. We're respectful and down to earth.
I work full time in an office and my girlfriend has just finished studying tourism. She has a broken leg at the moment but is keen to start working when she's all healed up. We both like to keep a clean place, especially in the kitchen. Looking to move within the next couple of weeks. We can provide excellent references and proof of income.

2015.01.12 13:48 joematcha A friend introduced me to an awesome new game that's like Cards Against Humanity meets Scattegories

I love Cards Against Humanity and have been looking for other social funny games to play with friends. Surprisingly there aren't as many in this vein as one might think.
Friends introduced me to this gaming company that’s taking kids games and making adult versions of them. I just tested out one of the games and thought it was awesome.
Has anyone here heard of Party Odious? They have their beta tests here to try for free if anyone is interested
