2024.04.24 22:43 hayofficer I (30s M) am constantly congested. Nothing works (allergy/cold/decongestants). What might be the issue? And what can I do?

30s M, 6-0, 180ish pounds, white, nasal congestion/trouble breathing, length is 1-2 months (severity goes up and down), drink, no drugs, medicines below
No matter what I seem to do, I feel congested -- like bad allergies or a bad cold. However, allergy and cold medicine don't work (they usually do for me, though).
Here's what I take daily for allergies (and have for years):
  1. allergy medicine (Claritin)
  2. saline nasal wash
  3. nasal spray (Flonase)
But lately, I've been way more congested lately. Usually, that means I have a cold (or flu/covid/etc). I've tried the following, and sometimes they kinda work -- but only for an hour or so, and then congestion returns:
  1. cold medicine (dayquil, nyquil)
  2. Mucinex
I've also tried various home remedies:
  1. Humidifier & eucalyptus
  2. hot tea, hot water with lemon,
  3. etc

  1. What could I have?
  2. And how can/should I treat it?

If it's just worsened allergy/cold symptoms, what should I do? increase dosage or add/subtract something?

If it's not as simple as worsened allergy/cold symptoms, what could it be? Why am I suddenly feeling I have a cold (or worse) all the time?

2024.04.15 17:32 Sigtin How sick is too sick to ship out to BMT?

I put myself in a situation where I got sick, like an idiot. I thought the person who got me sick had recovered enough to be non-infectious but I was wrong. It's "just" a head-cold, feeling congested and coughing, and I am recovering by taking Mucinex and Day/Nyquil. But I'm supposed to ship out soon and I'm worried I won't have recovered enough by then. So I guess my question is how sick do I have to present for them to deny me from shipping?

2024.03.29 08:34 Monstermommy90 Dollar tree carries major medicines, you just have to know what to look for. Helpful for allergy sufferers.

Medicines at Dollar tree that are the same as their name brand counterparts- Zyrtec, Claritin, Dayquil sinus relief am and pm, mucinex, delsym, Immodium, Dulcolax, Afrin nasal spray, Benadryl, Tylenol, ibuprofen in children's liquid as well as adults, gas - X, Robitussin, Vicks vapor rub, etc. Same active ingredients, same doses. The only difference is the packaging and sometimes the amount of medicine you get. But Zyrtec allergy medicine, is 10mg Cetirizine at DT and is $1.25 for 10 pills vs. My local CVS green box allergy zyrtec knock off is $12 for 10 pills. Don't let big words intimidate you, know your active ingredients. Mucinex is Guaifenesin, Claritin is Loratidine, Benadryl is Diphenhydramine, Afrin nose spray is Oxymetazoline ,Delsym is dextromethorphan ,Dayquil and Nyquil, cold and flu or cold and sinus relief medicine is Phenylephrine, dextromethorphan and usually some type of antihistamine. Benadryl is Diphenhydramine,Immodium is Loperamide I could go on and on, but look up the name brand medicine you need's active ingredients. You can find a match in a lot of medications at dollar tree and will pay so much less than buying store brand pharmacy versions. The active ingredient is what makes it work, and its listed on the back of all medications.

2024.03.28 01:20 Kindly-Key-4248 Sore throat..that’s it

25M. For about 4 days now I have had a sore throat with no other symptoms, ears hurt a little when I turn my neck very far, lymph nodes aren’t super swollen. I haven’t been to my primary care yet, but probably will if it persists. I thought it may be sinus drainage as it is worse in the morning, just kind of feels like my throats drying out. I had some doxycycline at my house so started taking it in case of strep, taking mucinex, and NyQuil at night, along with taking some extra Vitamin C. I do use Zyn pouches but have for awhile and have never had a sore throat from them. I have no fever and not really a headache.
I’ve also used salt water and honey. Any ideas before I go to the dr?

2024.03.15 12:32 Constant_Emu3592 What is standard procedure for medicine side effects?

I'm a 30F (5'3, 130 lbs, no drug or alcohol use history) and I suffered side effects from medications... both prescribed and over-the-counter medications. I went to the doctors multiple times, and I am left pretty baffled and confused about what I should expect. I don't know how to bring up issues with medications without seeming like I'm crazy.
For example, if someone is on prednisone, as an example, and is experiencing a fast heart rate and jitters, insomnia, dizziness, and muscle weakness, what would you recommend doing? Would you be able to connect these symptoms to the prednisone medication? How would you differentiate between mental illness (like anxiety or panic attack) and the prednisone side effects?
What if someone comes in with a bunch of medications and hallucinations, jitters, fast heart rate, insomnia, pain, eye dilated... how would you know the hallucinations is mental illness verses the medications? What if a family member comes in and says all of this is bizarre and not near normal for them, would that make a difference in your diagnosis? And if the patient experiencing hallucinations from medications, would you keep them in the hospital or send them to a psych ward or send them home and tell them to stop the medication or give them more medication to calm their side effects and tell them to continue the medication?
I'm just not sure if I had weird experiences with my medication and doctors or it was just standard care and procedure or if the "standard procedure" caused more harm than good to me. As none of the doctor's seemed concerned about the side effects of the medications that I was taking. We did talk to a pharmacist who told us that he was extremely concerned and said to only take Amoxi. I realize now everything I experienced was actual side effects, like the pharmacist said.
For my own very well being, I really need this clarification.
There was an actual reason and diagnosis for the medication. How accurate was it? Well, it's at least in the realms of accurate. Exact? No. (Long fricken story as to how everything happened and why.) It started with a stuffed up head and nose and then gasping for air after eating a weird spice. And it windfalled into a severe infection where the ENT couldn't even put up an endoscope into my nose. He said I had a giant cyst in one of my nostrils. He prescribed me 500 MG of Amoxi Clav 875 x3 per day for 15 days. He had me do a CT scan.
Every doctor knew what I was taking, here's a general list:
Prednisone
Steroid Inhaler
Steroid nasal sprays
Amoxi
Nyquil Severe (too much... 3-4 days a day)
Advil
Mucinex
Anxiety medication (not before becoming sick)
Sudafed
And more, I just don't remember at this time.
This question popped into my head because I'm scared.
The other night I had a terrible headache. In the afternoon, my boyfriend gave me excerdin. My headache ended up going away. But then I experienced dizziness and nauseousness, lack of appetite, sick to my stomach, and fast heart rate.
Now that I know that I'm sensitive to medications, at least I can look out for side effects
But I'm scared of my experiences with doctors. I'm scared of side effects from medications. With both fears, I'm overwhelmed. I don't understand what is standard procedure. And I don't understand how to get help for side effects of medication, and how to prevent doctors from just saying I'm crazy....????

2024.02.26 04:01 watsernaim Excessive coughing from cold causing prolapse?

3.m pp, Ftm and I combo feed but mostly breastfeed.
I got sick last Sunday and for last 2-3 days I have an excessive cough that nothing seems to help, from cough drops to honeys and tees. I've been doing child's liquid Claritin at half dose due to it drying effect on bm but I need something to dry my nose up and this has always helped. It somewhat helps with cough but not fully. I notice when I get slightly hot there's an extreme tickle/itch in the back of my throat that sends me into a coughing fit for a good 3 or so minutes. Coughing is worse when trying to sleep.
Dr said I was negative for the 3 major testers they swab for and wasn't to helpful on what I should take since breastfeeding other than to avoid sedative like meds like benadryl or nyquill. I can't take mucinex bc something in it always upsets my stomach. Other moms on fb said they ride it out with teas and tylonal.
Anyway I got out of a steamy shower and got realized how I was feeling down there. I never realized how much force was put on pelvic muscles with each cough until having a baby. I try to do a little exercising for pelvic floor 2 maybe 3xs a week (time difficulties) so did a few fresh out of the shower while I could breath. I decided to take a look bc honestly hadn't in several weeks (things looked as fine as they could be considering then) but now it seems there's a slight buldge -_- I'm trying not to let it stress me out but ppa/ppd has me on edge the last few weeks and now it's like great now I'm dealing with vagina things again.
I did poop before showering and it did make my hemis swell so used cream after a shower. I'm wondering if this contributed to it as well. My next ob visit is Mar. 14th but wondering if I should make it sooner??
Can someone tell me there experience?
I'm trying to keep in mind what ob told me at 6w pp when I brought up prolapse fears "I've seen a major prolapse go back on its own in 3 days, it's nothing to cause great frear" which sounds like this is so minor but when in the moment of already being constantly anxious (and sick) about everything from baby to my own health it's hard to tell whats logical vs anxiety talking.
Also yes I am in counseling to deal with pp but anxiety has been in waves I notice it more when sick and overwhelmed (like now).

For the love of god just get Ethan some Sudafed
The good shit behind the counter, not PE. Adding in Mucinex will help with the ear pressure. I have chronic sinus issues, this is the combo.
NyQuil is cough suppressant and acetaminophen, with Benadryl to knock you out. It won't help!

2024.02.21 04:00 Constant_Emu3592 I had a severe infection, I was on medication, I overdosed / had allergic reactions to the meds, and the doctors defense is that I'm crazy.

I really need help. What happened was agonizing, painful, and gutwrenching. It's a wild, long story but I'll shorten it the best I can.
I'll preface this... I have never used drugs in my life. I rarely even take advil. I had never ever been stoned in my life before, not even off of medication as I never even had any type of surgery.
I (30F) became very sick and I went to the doctor's at a health clinic. They told me that it's probably a cold. I was congested with mucus, I had a dry cough, my head hurt, my mouth and throat felt swollen, and I couldn't breathe. They gave me a steroid(!) nasal spray, told me to take mucinex, and gave me cough medication. (A few months before this, I had an open wound on my ear and it still didn't heal so she recommended an ENT - Ears Nose and Throat doctor.)
A week goes by. I don't improve. I go back to the doctor's. I once again tell them I'm really stuffed up and can't breathe. They gave me prednisone(!) (which is a steroid) and a steroid(!) inhaler. Within hours of taking the prednisone, I started feeling less stuffed and within two days, I no longer had that problem. But I STILL could not breathe. The inhaler did not help at all. My bf (Tom) made sure I used it correctly. The doctor said I could use it every 4-6 hours. And I did. It didn't help!!
I went to the doctor's again a few days later and told them once again I can't breathe. The doctor didn't seem considered until I lengthy talked about it... which took me a while in between the gasps for air and labor breathing. She ordered an x-ray. The x-ray came out fine. She recommended me to a lung doctor.
I had cancelled my ENT appointment as they said they'd only look at my wound on the ear and not anything else. But when I was waiting for a lung doctor, I kept telling my bf that my breathing problem seems more related to my throat than my lungs. So, we called the clinic and told them to get us that ENT appointment and forget the lung doctor.
In-between the last health clinic appointment and the ENT;
At this point, I started using liquid Nyquil and pill form muninex. I had a refill on my prednisone. I was using my nasal spray and my inhaler. I also took advil here and there too. I had timers on my phone like every 4-6 hours, I can take X medication. I still couldn't breathe!!!
One night when it was 3 AM, Tom came to bed and thought he'd be funny. He put his hand in front of my mouth. Before I could even get beyond pissed off, I completely stopped breathing. It was like my throat closed. I leaned my head far back and gasped hard for air. My throat POPPED! Air filled my mouth and as I started swallowing, something hard and long from the middle of my head fell into my throat. I panicked. I told my bf. He gave me nyquil to calm me down and that's when I swallowed a small, hard ball that also came from the middle of my head.
Then I started breathing better!! I took more medication in the morning. Then I felt like my heart would pound right off my chest and I felt completely awful and scared again.
This when Tom says I stopped sleeping.
I went to the ENT. He said I had a VERY, VERY severe sinitus infection. He couldn't even put an endoscope into my nose. He ordered blood work and a CT scan. Gave me this amoxi something antibiotic, 500 MG for three times a day.
I called places and my insurance company, etc etc etc. Got my CT scan.
At this point, I started even tasting food differently. Food I really enjoyed tasted beyond amazing!!!! Other food I enjoyed tasted like rubbish!!!! It felt like I could hear better, talk better, and feel the air better. Omg I thought I was I was missing out on everything my entire life!
It went quickly down hill.
At like 3 AM I couldn't breathe. I took my medication around noon and the antibiotic at like 2:00. Went to the ER (connected to the health clinic) at like 3:00 because the breathing was really bad. I brought my medication. The ER doctor (1) told me I was severely dehydrated. He gave me a chest x-ray and said my lungs were fine. He said that I have severe sinitus. He also claimed that I had a panic attack. He gave me anxiety medication. He asked Tom if I was ever on anxiety medication — no. He asked if I was depressed — no. He asked if I panicked a lot — no, maybe while driving and someone cuts me off lol. Did I ever behave like this before — no. He said absolutely no sudafed.
I went to the doctor's about 13 hours later (with all medication). My face was hurting REALLY, REALLY badly. I wanted help.
At this point I started experiencing very weird symptoms. I am always a cold person but was very hot constantly. So, I'd have Tom lower the temp. Then I'd tell him that my head felt like it was on fire so I'd put ice packs on my head and face for hours. Then I'd tell him randomly that I'm freezing and to him to increase the temp.
The second ER doctor (2) made me take a fricken a flu and COVID test. What a surprise, I was negative for both. Then he prescribed me Sudafed. We told the nurse that the first ER doctor stressed VERY HARD — literally said absolutely do not take any sudafed or anything with a certain ingredient (starts with a c). The nurse went and asked and the nurse said there's no problem taking sudafed.
I was released from the hospital. I'm spiraling mentally and physically. I felt sooooo hot. My face hurt so much. I ordered legitimately 2 full ice body bags and 2 face ice masks and an iced eye cover. I wasn't sleeping. I couldn't sit still.
I went back to the hospital the next morning. The basically threatened to baker act me. (I live in Florida.) Kind of understandable, as I admit that I said crazy things and that I had sepsis and cellulitis of the blood and I needed help ASAP. But to be fair, I didn't know what was happening and the doctor's didn't offer any explanation to what I was feeling. We went back home. Tom told his mom that they threatened to baker act me. His mom was like what, they don't ever threaten to baker act anyone, they just do it!
That's when his mom started getting suspicions, she said.
It was my last prednisone pill the day before. I felt awful but happy that food tasted amazing (as I'm a super picky eater). And disappointed that I didn't like pizza or pops anymore. I felt super hot. My face was in so much pain. I'd change moods very quickly, to very happy, to very sad (not normal for me).
At sone point, I had started feeling sensitive to touch and told Tom that my organs hurt whenever he touched me. I was feeling okay but "I had to take the sudafed", Tom told me. So, I took it. I quickly spiraled. I couldn't sit still. My face hurt really, really badly again. I felt more and more weak. I started becoming paranoid.
At some point, I don't really remember when. But I hate drinking water... normally I just won't as it makes me gag or throw up. But I started drinking it with flavoring.... and a lot of it.
This next morning, my bf was asleep. I got up at like 5-6 AM. I spiraled. I tried showering, standing in front of a stove as the mucus was stuck in me again really badly. I started patting myself with a wash cloth. It was turning yellow. I started panicking. Decided to take more medication. Spiraled even harder into a panic and took audafed again. I spiraled even harder. I had forgot my promise with my bf that I wouldn't drink too much. I drank like 6-7 Gatorade bottles and 14 water bottles in a span of like 2 - 1/2 hours.
His mom woke up and came out and saw all the water bottles. I was sitting on the couch crying. She came and sat next to me. She has a master's degree as she teaches kids with very specific special needs, so she's had to take medical classes about medication. She suspected that I was overdosing and having side effects.
She had me sit down and she read the side effects of the medication. And I would say "yes"... "yes"... "yep, that's what I'm experiencing..." She took this really, really big sigh. Then she says we are writing down every medication that you're on and how much I was taking.
She said I was not to take any more medication other than my antibiotics.
She left me alone for a bit. I started drinking water excessively again. Then I threw up blood. I cleaned it up. At that point, I couldn't trust myself so I woke up Tom to watch me.
Well, things spiraled very quickly that day. I became very, very weak and very, very cold. My face felt like it was melting. My organs felt like they were rotting inside of me. I could feel the nerves in my face. I could feel my teeth more. I could feel the space between my teeth and mouth more. My face.... it was so painful. I felt like I was dying. I laid on Tom's couch and I'd fall in and out of consciousness screaming in pain.
Tom and his mom didn't wanna bring me to a hospital because his mom believed they would baker act me. When I started waking up and gaining consciousness, I heard Tom on the phone.
He called a pharmacist, the one that was gave me the prescriptions. They started talking. At first, the pharmacist said that I was crazy, essentially. Then Tom raised a gentle point about what I was taking and if the medications were messing me up. That's when the pharmacist started talking about how it could very well be the medication and how I was taking that much could make me very stoned. At that point, I calmed down. I left the room with his mom to call my mom.
That's also when Tom started looking at my eyes. My eyes are normally light blue. My boyfriend said he almost no blue in my eyes. My eyes were black, completely dilated.
Okay, this is where I will jump in time and leave it very short.
I went to the health clinic as they said that it's possible that i was a maniac or that i had steroid psychosis. They told Tom to bring me to a mental institute and they'd help me and they'd reverse the medication in my blood.
So, I went there. It was horrible. I can't... I can't even describe how they didn't help. They were neglectful. I would help the other patients. Like put on their socks for them to make sure their feet weren't cold as they were too old to bend over. They didn't help my face. They didn't even seem concerned. They had a doctor "check" and "touch it". I was "fine"... despite being in intense pain.
They gave me like 15 pills a day! I barely slept at all there. The only solace I was got from when I was allowed to paint with the therapist. She did extra sessions for me.
BUT ANYWAY! Afterwards, I had to do an outpatient program, which was a waste of money and time. It turned out that the mental institute said I had psychosis and I was bipolar.
And now, all of these months later, I am left with a giant hole. What happened to me stirred in my head for weeks and weeks and after I started remembering and putting the pieces together, I figured it out.
I had a severe infection. I was stoned out of my mind. I am not crazy. I'm not bipolar. I had a severe reaction from never being stoned in my life and being in tremendous pain with a severe infection.
I want to sue. I've had to pay so many medical bills. I had delayed medical treatment. I have severe PTSD / memories. My bf also has severe PTSD, and before this he was very pro-doctor and now won't even see one because he is so terrified. There's so much pain and suffering. I can't even find a therapist because no one seems to specialize in medical trauma.
Who do I even sue? Can I sue anyone?

2024.02.19 07:32 joenorwood77 Seeking Advice for Over the Counter Medications Long Term

Hopefully this post is acceptable, even though I am currently not sick. I am attempting to compile a list of all of the over the counter medications the average person should have for potential illness, allergies, and injuries. Hopefully someone in the medical field can help to answer the questions throughout, and to generally speak to what is and is not needed on this type of list. I am a single 46 year old male, but I hope this post and responses helps many people who should also stock up their medicine cabinet a bit. I also need to spend $300 in OTC money, or I lose it at the end of this month.
I spent hours searching online and piecing this list together. I am really trying to pay attention more to my health. I appreciate everyone who takes time to respond to any of this.
PAIN RELIEF - When do I use each and when do I avoid each?
Acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) - Does it matter if Bayer or are they all the same?
Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) - Does it make sense to have both Ibuprofen and Advil? If so, when to use and when to avoid each?
Naproxen (Aleve).
GI
Pepto Bismol - It seems best to use when many stomach symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, acid reflux.
Imodium AD - Used strictly for severe diarrhea when necessary. Should it be strictly Imodium AD, or just anything with Loperamide all the same?
Acid Reflux - Omeprazole (Prilosec). Unfortunately Pepcid does nothing for me.
COLD/FLU/SINUS INFECTIONS (in addition to pain relievers)
**I know an easy mistake is that people take a pain reliever in addition to a medicine like NyQuil, Theraflu, Tylenol Cold and Flu Severe, and not realizing they are exceeding their dose of pain relief.
Cough Medicine - Robitussin or does it matter which one? Should a person have a cough syrup or just pills for symptoms?
Cough Drops - Does it matter which ones? Some say Zinc helps, others say that is a myth.
Vapor Rub - I assume Vicks or any are all pretty much the same.
Decongestants (such as pseudoephedrine) - It seems to make sense to buy this separately, and also be aware if it is in other things taken while sick.
Anything else for sore throat in addition to salt water gargle, cough drops? Maybe throat spray?
Neilmed bottles and packets for nasal irrigation. I personally prefer this way over Neti-Pot.
Expectorant - Mucinex (Guaifenesin)
Cough Suppressant - Delsym
Afrin
SHOULD I EVEN BUY THERAFLU, NYQUIL OR TYLENOL COLD AND FLU SEVERE, OR BEST TO AVOID THOSE AND JUST TREAT EACH INDIVIDUAL SYMPTOM?
ALLERGIES
Antihistamines - diphenhydramine (Benadryl), Loratadine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec), and Fexofenadine (Allegra). I personally prefer Zyrtec for my allergies.
Anti-Itch Cream - Hydrocortisone 1% Cream or Calamine Lotion? When use each?
Anti-Fungal Cream - clotrimazole, miconazole, or butenafine hydrochloride. When use each?
Eye Drops - Genteal Tears Preservative Free - this is what my optometrist suggested to me for dry/red eyes.
Fluticasone propionate (Flonase).
Warm Compress - Optometrist suggested using this for eyes when red. Should this just be a warm washcloth, or should I buy something specific if I might need this regularly due to allergies?
MISC.
Cracks in heels - both Aquaphor Healing Ointment and Eucerin Cream together is suggested online.
Nausea (motion sickness) - Dramamine
Burn Cream - I assume all pretty much the same and some should come in a first aid kit.
Antibiotic or antibacterial ointment - Neosporin or Bacitracin. When use each?
Laxatives - Does it matter which one?
First Aid Kit (includes many things, some that may be already listed)
Rubbing Alcohol - Recently read that 70% is often better than 91% since it does not dry as fast?
Hydrogen Peroxide
Reading Glasses - My age is finally catching up to me.
Sunscreen SPF what is suggested now days?
Aloe Vera Gel
Oral care like toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, mouthwash is surprisingly covered with my plan.
Consider multi-vitamins?
Lotion
Carmex
Insect Repellant
Hand Sanitizer
Epsom Salt
Q-tips
For sore muscles or swelling - Hot Pad and Cold Pad. Any specific ones out there?
Anything else?

2024.02.01 17:33 joleenabobeena Prozac and cold medicines

Ok so I'm sufrering through a good old fashioned cold right now. Looked online and here to see if I could take any cold medicine and it seemed like most of them were a no-go. Then I called my pharmacist and he said any of the ones on the shelves today are fine (nyquil, mucinex), and that the ones that the old ones that had interactions with ssri's are off the shelves now. What gives? Is he wrong? Or for short term use is it ok?

2024.01.25 20:57 EatARock247 im sick and i cant fucking handle it

i aplogize if this breaks any rules and im sorry that this isnt as serious as other peoples post's here but i have a cold and its genuinley driving me insane to the point ive considered straight up killing myself over it.
im an absoloute pussy when it comes to being hurt and getting sick, and this is litterally a generic cold [Throat hurts, stuffy nose thats occasionally runny, sore/aching body, a few coughs all of that stuff] but it hurts so fucking bad for me i dont even know why
my throat is constantly in pain, it never fucking stops even if i take 5 fucking ibuprofens. i make sure to take ibuprofen everytime it wears off/is about to wear off but it barely helps. every time i swallow or even breath through my mouth i feel like i have to scream and scratch at my throat and rip it out.
im only on the 4th day of the damn cold and i just woke up, we have enough ibuprofen for me to take one more time AND TODAYS A WORK DAY FOR MY DAD SO I CANT GET ANYMORE TILL HE GETS BACK AND HE USUALLY WORKS UNTILL THE SUN IS DOWN. AND MY MOM DOESNT HAVE A LICENSE AND NOBODY IN OUR FAMILY WOULD HELP.
Also not the mention the ear infection that i had A MONTH AGO is somehow back IN BOTH FUCKING EARS?? SO NOW I HAVE TO TAKE THE EXTRA MEDICINE MY DAD GOT FOR HIS EAR INFECTION TO GET RID OF MINE. AND IT HURTS SO FUCKING BAD, AND SOMEHOW I GET FUCKING HICCUPS BUT LIKE INSIDE OF MY EAR??? its so fucking unbearable i dont know what to do anymore.
Ive tried everything that i can do considering im a broke 13 year old in a trailer. ive done that stupid "saltwater gargle" shit and it did NOTHING, ive tried steaming up the bathroom, NOTHING. dayquil? NOTHING. Mucinex for my nose? MADE MY THROAT WORSE AND BARELY HELPED MY NOSE. THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE FUCKING HELPING ME IS IBUPROFEN AND SOME SHITTY OFFBRAND NYQUIL THAT TASTES TO BAD IT CAUSED ME TO SHAKE, CRY AND ALMOST THROW UP EACH TIME I DRINK IT.
I CANT FUCKING DO THIS FOR A WEEK, IVE ALREADY GONE THRU 3 DAYS OF IT. IM SO FUCKING SCARED DUDE I FEEL LIKE IM GOING TO DIE, EITHER FROM KILLING MYSELF OR FROM THE COLD KILLING ME. SLEEP ONLY MAKES IT WORSE YET I CANT STAY TIRED FOR EVER, I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO HAVE A DRINK WITH ME BUT YET I FEEL LIKE IM GOING TO THROW UP HALF THE TIME, I CANT EAT UNLESS ITS SOMETHING HOT/WARM BUT THEN AGAIN IM NOT EVER HUNGRY BECAUSE OF THE COLD BUT IF I KEEP TAKING MEDICINE ON AN EMPTY STOMACHE IM GOING TO THROW UP.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE, I CANT EVEN GO TO A DOCTOR [for personal reasons] TO GET MEDICINE, AND I CANT EVEN KILL MYSELF BECAUSE GOOGLE DOESNT GIVE ME ANSWERS, TIKTOK WONT GIVE ME ANSWERS, NOTHING WILL TELL ME HOW . AND I DONT HAVE A FUCKING ROPE OR A GUN OR LET ALONE A KNIFE??? IIM FUCKING SCARED I GENUINLEY CANT LIVE WITH THIS COLD FOR A WEEK, ESPECIALLY WITH THIS EAR INFECTION. 2024.01.25 16:07 McDsHashbrowns Chest Pain/difficult to breath after taking 1200mg guaifenesin.

Height: 6'1
White, 19yrold, Male
Weight: 215lbs
Location: chest
Duration of complaint: 14 hours so far
Current time: 9:46am
Existing medical issues: chronic sinus infection, anxiety,
Vaping Addiction (3% nicotine from a novo)
Meds recently taken in past 24 hours (Monday):
4pm: Fluticasone Propionate 200mcg (50mcg per spray)
7pm: guaifenesin 1200mg and 10mg Walgreens Claritin
8:30pm: Nyquill (two normal tablets)
Been a light sickness for months now, got put a bunch of meds for treating my sinus infection about a month ago and it seemed like it went away. (Meds were amoxicillin and prednisone for 2 weeks started right before Christmas) Started to finally feel better once done but symptom's have slowly been coming back and over these last two days my left ear clogged again. Saw on reddit someone took 1200mg guaf, a hot shower and took a massage gun, that apparently let the mucus run down and out of my sinuses.
At around 9pm my chest began to hurt and it felt weird to breath. I was really euphoric, almost like I was high. This scared me a lot and I went to bed thinking I might not wake up. (Google said if you have chest pain with Mucinex get immediate medical attention, which made me feel great)
The chest pain is more central and downward so I don’t think it’s my heart. I’m guessing it’s my lungs/trachea bc I have this pressure in my chest that feels like I need to burp but I can’t.
Been hydrating quite a bit, trying not to hit the vape, but I did eat a lot of food yesterday so I'm wondering if the Mucinex is causing severe acid reflux or something.
The weird euphoric high feeling and the wooziness is mostly gone but i still feel weird. Chest pain might actually be getting worse.

2024.01.06 21:15 curious_throw_away_ Unsure if we should get second opinion

My boyfriend, 38M has been sick for 2 weeks now. I feel like whatever this is, he should be feeling better by now. Went to urgent care 2 days ago and was negative for covid, rsv, had a negative chest ray so they said it's not pneumonia. He said they tested for something else that was also negative, I'm assuming flu. They said just treat with OTC meds.
He will feel fine for a bit during the day, then he gets terrible all the sudden. Current symptoms: cough, chills, fever, at night he sweats like crazy, he's very tired.
Been treating with therflu tea, mucinex, nyquil, rest and liquids.
I feel like this really is something more than a cold at this point. Any thing else that should be ruled out?
Thanks in advance.

2024.01.02 05:27 Unusual-Stranger9428 Ugh So Sick and Can’t Take Anything in My Medicine Cabinet

I picked up a head cold after Christmas and I’m blowing my nose and sneezing every minute. Today we drove 9.5 hours and I cleared through an entire box of tissues and then some.
When I got home I pulled out the mucinex and NyQuil only to discover that ingredient #3 is on the no go list - antihistamine. Also read that chloroseptic gets mixed reviews in studies.
Currently drinking tea and shaking my fist at the ceiling.
Any suggestions outside of a steam shower and ugly crying?

2023.12.27 21:20 Professional_Road953 COVID Symptom Timeline

First time getting the VID… pissed I can’t say I have evaded it any longer. I wanted to post on here with updates on how I have been affected and how I’m feeling in days to come.
A little background on me: I am a 24 year old female, I lift weights 5 days a week and take pretty good care of myself. My immune system has been run down due to life stressors the past month. I got tonsillitis and an ear infection over Thanksgiving and ended up having an allergic reaction to my meds. Long story short my immune system has been garbage since then.
Onto the symptoms:
12/25: Woke up with some post nasal drip and a burning sensation in my left sinus. Something similar to chlorine being in there or bad allergies-which I get when the seasons change. Took a Zyrtec and did a nasal rinse and didn’t think much of it. During the day, I felt a bit off and had waves of tiredness which I attributed to it being Christmas Day and typically I need a nap anyways from being up so early. Started feeling pressure in my sinuses and a headache and figured it was the beginning of a sinus infection so I started drinking a lot of water. During dinner I was feeling a little lightheaded and my stomach was a little off but nothing crazy. My muscles ached so I hopped in the hot tub, thinking I was sore from hitting legs the day before.
Took some NyQuil before bed and did another nasal rinse. Sleeping was horrible that night, my sinuses were burning like a mf and one side of my nose would plug up at a time. My head pounded and I used a humidifier to try and clear out my sinuses.
12/26: I woke up at 6am shivering and my body ached. I tossed and turned and eventually got up (8am) and got in a hot shower to use the steam to clear out my sinuses. The shower helped and I ate some breakfast and started taking some meds: Tylenol for the fever (101.8), Sudafed and mucinex, emergen C with Zinc, and my normal multivitamin. I felt a little better and went back to watch Netflix in bed. Drank about 100OZ of water this day. My left trap was really tight and achy and my neck was a little stiff. My symptoms just got worse throughout the day and my fever eventually got up to 102.2. That’s when I took a COVID test at home and came out positive. The best way I can describe the feeling is: the worst hangover you’ve ever had + sinus infection + flu symptoms. The only symptoms I didn’t have were a sore throat and a cough.
I slept pretty well for about 11 hours that night. Took Tylenol and Sudafed before I fell asleep.
12/27: Woke up feeling brand new. Headache: gone Burning sinus: gone Body aches: gone Fever: gone
I still have some lingering sinus pressure and congestion and took some Tylenol and Sudafed. I am a little tired when I go up and down the stairs which I think is pretty normal. Doing some remote work and I have a bit of brain fog. I still have my taste and smell right now but will update in days to come.
I think this is the new variant (JN1) which is said to be less severe than the others.

2023.12.19 03:55 Maleficent_Tip4799 DAE Have chest pain for almost two months and no real answers/different opinions??

Working into two months, starting in late October I have had on and off stabbing chest pain. The first week it had happened I talked to my husband who said we should just go to urgent care (Early November) since it had been happening for over a week so not likely a medical emergency. During the first visit I described my issues, they did an EKG, Blood work, and X ray. Supposedly everything came back fine so they sent me on my way.
A few days later I received a phone call from the urgent care center saying they noticed my lungs where hyperinflated and asked me to come back in. They diagnosed me with bronchitis and gave me steroids' and sent me on my way. 1 week later, chest pain still present and steroids' did not help so I went back.
Was seen by a new doctor who did a new blood test and freaked out because my white blood cell count was "extremely high." Was given antibiotics and sent on my way.
Fast forward two days later, I started having piercing sharp chest pain in my middle/left side of my chest (one precise area) and immediately became scared (for reference I also was having abdominal pain at the time too). Went to ER where they did BP, blood, CT Scan, EKG, Xray, Urine and could see nothing wrong with my chest, stated I did not have an infection/bronchitis at all and said I appeared to be in overall good health outside of some gallbladder sludge and an enlarged liver (stated most likely fatty liver) that could be fixed with a diet change and was informed to not take the antibiotics.
Then a few days later, I had fallen extremely ill, covid negative, but I could barely move or breathe and had a fever of 101.7 for about two days. Feeling extremely discouraged to return to any ER or doctor after my last visits I went ahead and took the original antibiotic the urgent care doctor gave to me with some Day/Nyquil and Mucinex and finally got better, all symptoms disappearing.
The chest pain finally went away for a short period of time but the past two weeks have reappeared again and I have been dealing with it ever since. I have an appointment with a new primary care doctor this week but honestly, I feel totally wigged out because this stabbing pain/sensation are on the middle/left side of my chest, always sharp and in the same location but I also feel I am not getting any answers.
I am trying to reassure myself that my heart is ok since I had multiple EKG's and blood tests run, but I can't get the fear out of my head. I physically feel pretty good outside of anxiety over this whole issue and some fatigue throughout the day, even my abdominal pain is mostly now gone with my diet change. (Cut out basically all processed/added sugars, minimal salt, only olive or avocado oil, and main diet of veggies + lean meats like white chicken or turkey was recommended by the ER doctor so I have followed it)
Anyone else have similar issues and any advice?

2023.12.11 11:48 ChocolateLawBear Am I crazy or is there a physiological impact on respiration depending on which side of your body you are laying?

38 years old.
Male.
Non smoker. Occasional glass or two of red wine with dinner but otherwise little to no alcohol.
5’11” 250lbs.
Mucinex past 15 hours or so and days of assorted OTC cold medicines.
Ok so first I have a doctor appointment in a few hours. In the meantime though:
I’ve had a pretty consistent and annoying cough for the past couple weeks. The full panoply of cold medicine has been essentially useless. In the past couple days it’s been particularly nasty and sleeping has been difficult. No fever or anything. My Apple Watch says my o2 saturation is 94/95 percent.
Well if I lay on my right side, or just keep my head turned to the right, I don’t cough at all can breathe just fine and sleep comfortably. On my back or laying on my left side I’m basically choking myself for air and coughing like I just smoked fifty cigarettes.
At first I said this must be coincidence, or I’m like high on NyQuil or something but I’ve “experimented” several times over the past several hours and unless I’m absolutely crazy I feel totes normal on my right side and like I’m dying on my left (only being slightly dramatic but it truly does suck on the left side).
Thanks for reading and for whatever medical/anatomy and physiology ideas y’all may have!

2023.11.08 04:03 Ashbash217 31F Tips for getting rid of ear congestion

My ear congestion is driving me crazy. I haven’t been able to hear out of my left ear for days. My right ear is also congested, but less severely. It was difficult to hear out of before my left ear got clogged up.
I have been sick for about two weeks. A week and a half ago I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis. Was given cough medicine (that I am no longer taking), a z pack (finished), 5 days of prednisone (finished), and an inhaler. I also took mucinex to try to break up the chest congestion I was having 1.5 weeks ago. Stopped mucinex about 4 days ago and switched to Sudafed as the congestion seemed to move to my head, per the recommendation of my aunt who is a nurse. I was sneezy and the chest congestion had lessened. Right ear got less clogged but then left started. I still have some chest congestion and a cough but it’s much improved. Slowly decreasing my inhaler use. I should also mention I’m having sinus pain in my face. I used Afrin for 3 days (over the weekend) to try to help with congestion. I also have been taking NyQuil at bedtime.
Other things I’ve tried: drinking lots of water, steam showers, tapping/massaging sinuses, sleeping upright (this was more for chest congestion; been sleeping flat since Saturday), putting my ear on a hot pad. It’s not ear wax as my ears are dry when I use a q tip (just doing to check that it’s not wax).
I’m about to lose my mind with this ear congestion and sinus pain. Also of note- when I blow my nose it is clear.
Some demographic info: I'm a White 31 year old female [21F] nonsmoker. I don't use drugs and drink maybe one drink per week. Approximately 5'7" 225 Ibs. I take Trintellix 20-40 mg for anxiety and metformin ER 500 mg for PCOS.

2023.10.19 02:35 CrawlinOutTheFallout 30 Male. When is my heart skipping a beat a problem?

How frequent to heart palpitations need to happen before it is considered a concern? I'm am fairly active and weight 135 and 5'10"
Over the past 24 hour I randomly feel my heart skip a beat. Checking my pulse confirmed it. It probably happens 1-4 times in an hour and it only skips one beat then it's back to normal. It feels like my heart drops a little bit. It is causing me some stress just worrying about it. I checked my blood pressure this morning at the doctor and was told I was a little high at 141 over 86 with a 62 resting heart rate. The doctor said it is probably stress related as to why it was a little high. I'm also recovering from a cold and I was taking nyquil and mucinex but I haven't taken them in 24 hours now. The palpitations have lessened but it's still happening occasionally. Should I be worried? Or more worried than I already am lol.
Thank you.

2023.09.27 05:38 tonecii Any else been sick while dealing with dysautonomia/POTS?

What should I do/take?
Not sure if flu, COVID, common cold, etc. Will try to go to urgent care tomorrow to request free testing.
Itchy/sore throat, chest pains, left arm pains, shortness of breath, mouth breathing, mild cough, chest pains, pounding heartbeat, mild lightheadedness, strange feeling in throat like internal tremors that make me cough, body aches. All symptoms starting today, except sore throat which was last night.
Took baby aspirin earlier for chest pain, not sure if bad or good. I have NyQuil and Mucinex DM available here but that’s unfortunately.

2023.09.05 06:07 miller0908 Just a tad worried…

So I looked online if I could take Mucinex and NyQuil together. It said yes, so I took the full dose of each (20 mL Mucinex and 30 mL NyQuil). Then I continue on reading and it says not to mix Mucinex DM and NyQuil because they both contain Dextromethorphan. Well upon further review, the mucinex I took is Fast Max severe that also contains dextromethorphan. Should I be concerned?
