2024.05.16 13:40 Incman [long read, ~10 mins] I delivered "goodbye for now" letter to nMom that I still rent a room from, and I'm feeling vulnerable but also hopeful for my own future.

[I just recently learned of this community after I had shared this in the raisedbynarcissists sub, and I couldn't figure out how to crosspost it so I'm just copy&pasting]
As the title states, (and despite the existential risk to myself - as I am disabled, impoverished, and my survival is reliant on the room I rent in her attic - given her recent threat to have have me thrown out by the police because she could not handle the feelings she had during the argument that she initiated), I have finally drawn a bright red line in the metaphorical sand regarding my nMom's treatment of me. This is the culmination of 8+ years of sustained, one-sided, unreciprocated, and unsuccessful effort on my part to sustain, salvage, repair, or improve our "relationship".

Reading through some of the posts on this sub over the past day or so has been very validating, as one thing she's always been extremely committed to is making sure she's the loudest voice in my life telling me how invalid all of my emotions and experiences and realities are.

I am very grateful for anyone who takes the time to read this post, and any input, commentary, criticism, insight, commiseration, etc, is welcome and appreciated (especially on the topic of being NC-except-as-a-tenant). Her lifelong response to my needs or inconvenient requests for respect or attempts to hold her accountable for her behaviour (throughout literally hundreds and hundreds of interactions that she has walked away from or hung-up on) has essentially been "tl;dr šŸ–•". So I'm acutely aware of the length of what I'm written, and I'm very used to her cold (or even mocking) avoidance and dismissal of valid issues by commenting on the length or format of my communications without ever engaging on the merits.

Anyways, enough preamble, here's the full letter (all of the square-bracketed disclaimers and AI-summary are part of the letter as delivered to her, to try and counter the acute and selective illiteracy she develops whenever she begins to read something she doesn't like):

[Start of Letter]

[This document begins with a 382 word AI-generated summary (titled "AI- GENERATED SUMMARY:" below the square-bracketed opening remarks), estimated at 1m23s time required to read. If you are unable or unwilling to make it through even this brief summary, then there is literally nothing else I could possibly do to assist in your comprehension of my positions. The full message following the summary is approximately 2100 words, estimated at approximately 8 minutes to read.]

[If you would like assistance in understanding things I've written that you're struggling to interpret or comprehend, you can go to chatgpt.com (no account necessary), or download the ChatGPT app from the Google Play Store on your phone. You can simply interact with the chat in natural language (in other words, type as though you were texting another person) and it will understand what you are saying. If you are struggling to understand how to interact with it effectively, you can simply inform it of that (in any wording you choose) and it will assist you with altering your approach to receive more effective results.]

AI-GENERATED SUMMARY:

Your son's message is a powerful declaration of his boundaries, grievances, and intentions within your relationship. Here's a breakdown to help you understand:

Preface: He advises you to read with an open mind and, if needed, with assistance due to the emotional complexity.

Declaration of Disengagement: He firmly states his decision to disengage from any form of interaction or acknowledgment outside of essential landlord-tenant matters.

Condemnation of Abuse: He accuses you of perpetuating a cycle of abuse that has deeply impacted his health and stability.

Rejection of Coercion: He dismisses the idea that being evicted is a viable solution to the abuse, highlighting the coercive nature of such a choice, and how it leaves him vulnerable to further harm.

Criticism of Your Behavior: He unreservedly condemns your actions, particularly your exploitation and manipulation, emphasizing the gravity and effects of your conduct.

Challenges to Your Claims: He directly confronts your claims regarding his efforts in the relationship, asserting that he has consistently made extensive attempts to maintain it, despite your accusations to the contrary.

Commitment to Compliance: He unequivocally affirms his commitment to compliance with all landlord-related demands, demonstrating his unwavering respect for your authority as the homeowner.

Demand for Clarity: He demands clear and unambiguous knowledge of the requisite terms when any changes to living arrangement paradigms are demanded, underscoring his willingness to comply with any directives you may issue.

Defense Against Gaslighting: He firmly asserts his unwavering commitment to respecting your property and authority, preemptively refuting any attempts to accuse him otherwise.

Insights into Your Behaviour: He offers insights into patterns in your behaviour, linking them to moments of vulnerability or distress in your life.

Call for Self-Reflection: He urges you to seek professional help for your narcissism and unresolved childhood traumas.

Caution Regarding Gravity: He states that failing to address your responsibilities would be a missed opportunity for both of you to salvage the relationship and resolve underlying issues.

Reiteration of Hope: Despite his current stance, he leaves the door open for reconciliation if you undergo necessary personal growth.

Closure on Unequal Effort: He firmly states that he can no longer sustain the one-sided effort in the relationship and won't continue to do so.

It's evident that he's deeply hurt and demanding acknowledgment, change, and resolution in your relationship.

[end of AI-generated summary; my full, non-AI-generated message follows below]

[I recommend that you read this in its entirety at a time and capacity level where your literacy and comprehension are at their highest level, and preferably with the interpretational assistance of a knowledgeable and competent support person or technological assistant.]

[Presumably, after reading a few sentences or less, your defense mechanisms will be activated and you will eject. However, as with the vast majority of the things I have said to you that have gone unacknowledged, I am completely certain that the contents are cogent and comprehensible, and I believe that with competent support and vulnerable effort you undoubtedly have the raw cognitive capacity necessary for comprehension if you are able to stabilize your emotional reactions and put real effort into the actions necessary for you to understand my words.]

I will not talk to you.
I will not look at you.
I will not approach you.
I will not acknowledge you.

If you attempt to interact with me on any interpersonal level not related to your role as a landlord, I will reserve the right to express just how fucking despicable it is to treat such a vulnerable person with such utter disregard and abuse for so fucking long.

The cycle of abuse you have maintained to destabilize me for your own pathological reasons has caused - and continues to cause - extensive damage to my health, stability, and existence. However, since I know your response to this would likely be some variation of "you're not a victim here [my name], so if I treat you so bad, just leave", I'll preemptively and unequivocally condemn such coercive and abusive tactics, and state again (as I did the other day), that the forced choice between your abuse and life-threatening-homelessness is obviously no choice at all, and leaves me perpetually subject to your coercion and abusive control.

Such exploitation by you is absolutely disgusting, and honestly I understand why you run away from yourself at every single instance where you're in danger of having your lifelong house-of-cards ego even slightly threatened. I know if I treated another human being the way you treat me for even a moment, let alone for the literal years you have done so, I would not be able to face myself in the mirror either. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself.

You say I "don't want to be your son anymore", as though it has been someone other than me making hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours of efforts and attempts in order to try and single-handedly keep our relationship alive, and as though it has been someone other than you who has stonewalled me for years about every single legitimate and valid time I attempted to gain even the slightest foothold as a full human being in the owner-pet relationship you have fought so hard to maintain. You siphon, in fact demand, emotional supply whenever you so choose, and then fucking discard me as soon as it appears that I might do anything that would result in you losing even a fraction of a percent of the 99% to 1% imbalance you believe is an immutable part of our "relationship".

I will do my absolute best to be in my room as much as physically possible when you are home, so as to minimize the need to be physically adjacent to you in the course of our respective activities of daily living.

I, again, remain unequivocally committed to my position of deference and compliance towards any rules/demands related to my existence, presence, or activities as your tenant.

As you refuse to provide any sort of unambiguous guidance or clarification whatsoever regarding your shifting demands affecting my ability to access/perform basic activities of daily living, I will continue to act in good faith with respect to my adherence to all previously-established arrangements and protocols (whether codified or de facto) regarding such activities. To the full extent of my abilities, and to the extent that it is physically possible, I will immediately and unequivocally comply with any alterations, additions, or excisions you choose to impose regarding the nature of our physical coexistence as landlord and tenant, regardless of your disregard or intent for any harm to my stability that will ensue as a result.

If you intend to attempt to manipulate or threaten or gaslight me to illegitimately and dishonestly accuse me of failing to comply with your rights and demands as the homeownelandlord, then I can assure you that such efforts will be ineffective and inadvisable. The extensive history of my genuine, documented, and unwavering commitment to absolute respect of your home, property, and landlord-tenant authority is unassailable, and nothing has or will change about the good faith nature of my efforts to simply live peacefully and work on stabilizing my health and continuing to attempt to develop basic protocols that offer me the opportunity to seek the ways and means required to sustainably exist, survive, and seek meaning and fulfilment as a human being.

To try and make it a bit more bite-sized (without warranty as to the efficacy of said efforts), since I know when your ego is threatened you conveniently - and dishonestly - become completely unable to read a couple thousand words:

I love you, and goodbye for now. I hope to see you on the other side, but I cannot force you to undertake the journey.

- [my name]

2024.05.16 12:35 mcdickmann2 Trailer Light Issues

2022 XLT Ecoboost. No 4k tow package just the hitch reciever.
Recently bought a small boat and noticed the trailer lights weren't working. Only the running lights work. No turn signal or brakes. I bought a tester on Amazon and it showed the same. Anyone else have this issue? If so did Ford charge you to fix it?
Of course I just got the letter my warranty is expiring. I'm at 38702 miles am I SOL on the warranty? Thanks for any input.

My dad received one of those extended warranty letters and unfortunately he fell for the scam. What is the recourse on this? Can he get his money back? Would the bank be able to place a hold on all incoming charges? Not sure how much he's given them yet.

2024.05.16 01:17 woohooguy Thank you Carvana - Bridgecrest - SilverRock (5 year review)

I wanted to share my experience with the entire Carvana package now that our car is paid off and all monetary transactions with them are over.
This will get long, as it started in 2019.
We bought our 17' Rogue from Carvana in April of 2019. I was researching vehicles for close to 3 months before finally pulling the trigger on this particular model. It was about 34k miles, 2.5 years old, located in Illinois. I liked the geographic area for chances the vehicle hadn't seen a lot of snow for the first 2 years of it life as Carfax activity showed it was most likely in the southern part of the state.
I also chose this specific Rogue as the VIN indicated the vehicle was made in South Korea, as opposed to Tennessee. The difference is all Rogues made in South Korea received engines and CVT's from Japan, while US made models had engines from Japan or US, and CVT's from Mexico which was a no go for me. I will also go one more and state Korean labor for assembly is far more disciplined than what you find in the US and especially mexico. Fun fact for those still paying attention - The Nissan Rogue's that have the flat Nissan logo on the grille behind smoked plastic were made in South Korea. They stopped production there in early 2020.
What interested me in Carvana was-
  1. Buying a car is the sleaziest most frustrating process from a dealer
  2. I could hand pick from an inventory of cars across the country willing to pay for delivery
  3. They offered me 500 dollars off the final price of a car in a letter campaign, as they were still growing
I started looking over inventory for a month, and decided to sign up and go for the soft credit pull to see what terms Carvana would offer. I was prequalified for a used car loan through my credit union, so I wanted to see Carvana's terms would be. The loan and term tools were pretty damn cool at the time, you could just jiggle those sliders and almost completely tailor a lending solution to fit your needs.
After the soft credit pull and a single pay stub, Carvana pre-approved me for any car up to 90k, with zero money down. I laughed. Hard. I had decent credit but wasnt going to bury myself.
After I settled down to a few models, I worked through the trade-in portion of the site, and found it was real easy to get a quote to trade in our 2005 Escape XLT which was a great car, but in Ford fashion the frame was rotting away. I had a fair offer for the trade in, described it honestly.
We also opted for the SilverRock warranty. Nissan, CVT, etc.
The big sale!
After watching how quickly some cars came and went early on, I got everything I needed for the trade in. Scan of the title, picture of the milage, car pictures. We were putting 2k down on the car, so the cash was waiting in my account, ready for transfer or cashier check if we were going to go with Carvana final loan offer.
The day I pulled the trigger on our Rogue, the entire process took all of 20 minutes. I was amazed, and honestly thought at the time "This should be illegal for how easy that was".
The offer for Carvana finance was within a couple tenths of my credit union, so I opted to simplify the process and go with them. Carvana performed a hard pull on my credit, confirmed the terms, and required confirmation from my bank that the money for deposit was in my account. I provided my bank login credentials and the process was done in minutes.
I had to provide a copy of my license and items related to the trade in, and it was done, in literally 20 minutes. I wondered if I was making a mistake..
It was an amazing deal, every dealer in the area was selling the same model for well over 2k of what we paid, so the SilverRock warranty was pretty much free after the additional 500 discount off the final price of the car.
Delivery - Trade in!
It was delayed. Twice. Pretty disappointing. Some pretty lame excuses. Honestly I should have expected a reasonable delivery date as the I knew the car I bought was 1500 miles away, but Carvana makes unrealistic delivery promises and is my biggest gripe regarding them.
When delivery day finally came, the Rogue was everything I had hoped it would be. While on the delivery truck I asked to inspect the undercarriage, and the driver was super friendly and allowed me to take my time. I looked it all over, looking for rust, oil leaks, you name it and I found nothing nothing, including nothing suspect like it had been cleaned. It was a 2-ish year old car with light dirt and surface rust where you would expect.
Once the Rogue was unloaded I was free to look it over with a fine comb, pop the hood, check the fluids, look for dents and dings, paint issues, interior issues, you name it. I found nothing major, just some minor things like paint polish slag in small corners and what not. Interior was very clean and detailed.
While I was looking over the Rogue, the delivery driver was loading the trade-in. He took some pictures, verified the mileage, checked the "check engine" light was off and started loading it on his truck.
I live in Massachusetts with very strict license and registration requirements. A few days before the delivery, someone from the Danvers site reached out to me about the registration details. I was transferring the plates from the trade in and they were finalizing the paperwork. I was provided the new registration, and the delivery driver had the new registration in hand so we could just put the plates on the Rogue and be ready to roll.
I took the Rogue for a 20 minute test drive, signed off on the purchase and trade. Driver headed off with the trade in and that was it. Carvana never called or questioned what they gave me for the trade.
Post delivery!
The very next day I brought the Rogue to work, I work in transportation/logistics and my site has ASE mechanics that I know very well. I asked him to go over the Rogue with the white glove and let me know if they think anything is wrong, as I have 6 days to return the car. They did so and they didnt find anything, just amazed at how clean the undercarriage, engine, and fluids were.
If I didn't have access to an ASE certified mechanic in this situation that I really trusted, I would have paid for a purchase inspection from a Nissan dealer. I did pay for the trusted inspection, just not in dollars lol.
After the personal vehicle inspection, my wife and I took off for a long weekend road trip roaming the White mountains of New Hampshire. Three days across many miles that easily blew out the initial vehicle 7 day warranty mileage. The Rogue was amazing through the mountains getting a ridiculous 30mpg through the entire trip. I wasn't concerned as people I trust cleared the car, and I also had the SilverRock warranty to cover the rest..
Speaking of warranty..
SilverRock!
The first, and pretty much only issue with the Rogue, was at about 48k miles. Massachusetts has a comprehensive yearly vehicle inspection program. At about 48k miles, the Rogue failed inspection for a bad inner tie rod, passenger side. Contacted SilverRock, and they gave me the local network shop here in Massachusetts, Monro.Monro is a regional repair shop here in MA with many locations. I take the Rogue to them and they diagnose that indeed the passenger side inner tie rod has gone bad. Repair tech states he has never seen one go bad on a Nissan at the current mileage.
The service manager starts looking around for the parts, called about 5 places, then calls a Nissan dealer. The Nissan dealer informs him the inner tie rod is not available for the 17, the only way to to repair the defect is replace the entire electric steering rack which comes with the inner and outer tie rods complete.
I call SilverRock with the service manager. I provide my name and vehicle make, SilverRock knows who I am right away. SilverRock rep asks whats wrong, service manager laid it down. SilverRock rep transfers us to a manager, manager asked about a few more details and then asked the service manager of Monro to send the estimate.
I get a call from the manager of Monro the next day, he said he went back and forth with SilverRock for about 20 minutes and got the entire job covered, throwing in a free front end alignment, for 1500 dollars using a genuine Nissan OEM steering rack.
SilverRock paid everything but the 100 dollar deductible. I picked up the Rogue 2 days later, paid 100, and went back for inspection. It passed.
Anyone reading this that knows about car repair, an inner tie rod costs maybe 150 dollars OEM. The fact it wasn't available and they had to replace the entire rack was absurd, yet they did it with a new OEM rack. At the time SilverRock could have required a rack used from a salvage yard, but they didn't.
I have nothing but positive things to say about SilverRock.
Bridgecrest!!
The silent partner.
I have NEVER spoken to someone at Bridgecrest. I have never called them. They have never called me.
I have NEVER emailed Bridgecrest. They have emailed me every single month for the life of my loan, after making a payment.
They fronted me the money, and expected it back. I paid it back, as expected. On time.
5 stars, and they will return the favor on my credit now that the loan is clear.
WHY YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY
Do your homework - buying a car is a capital investment in your future that loses money. You need a car to be reliable for your job, your family, your life. You need to spend money on a regular basis to keep that car reliable, on top of your car payment.
Know your budget - Dont fall for finance traps. Only buy what you can comfortably afford, again, owning a car costs you more money than what's on the final loan payment.
Get your car inspected ASAP - Pay a dealer for a purchase inspection. Schedule it ahead of time. Inform Carvana of the issues within 3 days of delivery and ask them to pick up the car. Carvana will make the car right, as they dont want to take the car back from qualified buyers. Keep on top of them until the car is what was expected.
Why Carvana may be bad for you
You have bad credit - Better know what you are signing on for. The majority of complaints in this sub are from people that have bad credit, cant read, and cant learn from past mistakes. Thats a personal problem, not a Carvana problem.
Closing
Aside from some delays in delivery, We have had an amazing 5 year journey with Carvana and associated companies. Our Rogue is now at over 100k miles and still drives and looks like new. We perform all maintenance as required, without question.
Living in MA, the last 5 years our Rogue has taken us thousands of miles over the White Mountains of New Hampshire, all through the Mountains of Maine, and multiple trips to Canada to visit the iconic Niagara Falls.
My wife travels every day for work, and the Rogue is her daily driver putting 3k miles on the clock every 2.5 months. We change the oil every 3k miles, perform the required CVT services at the dealer, and keep the tires rotated every 8K.
The tires that came on the Rogue from Carvana were in fact new, but the kind of tires that have a 30k mile treadwear warranty. The first snowy New England day we slipped through a stop sign in light snow, the next week we replaced the tires all around with BF Goodrich Advantage TA sport tires and the Rogue has been amazing in the snow ever since.
After getting our Rogue, my coworker was so impressed he bought not 1, but 2 cars from Carvana. Bastard got both cars delivered on time, on the same day, from different parts of the country.. I was so jealous lol. His cars had some minor issues, but Carvana took car of them.
My daughter bought a Nissan as well from Carvana. It had a few front end issues, but ultimately was taken care of through constant communication with Carvana during the 7 day test drive.
Will I use Carvana again? Yes.
Will it be soon? Not really.
Our other car is a Hyundai and running strong.
Hope some of my diatribe will be useful to anyone considering Carvana as usually is all bad mouth drival posted here.

2024.05.15 23:52 UltoPulto-BangoTingo Taking a trade seller to court- do I need to involve solicitor?

Hi, Please pardon my ignorance and naivety.
I bought a car from trade seller for a hefty sum - trade seller lied to me about the carā€™s history and service history (item not as described) and despite me asking multiple times, lying still.
Faults appeared in the car 2 months into ownership - contacted seller and was asked to liaise with warranty provider - less than helpful and I requested seller to take car back, kindly fox and send (I will send money for transport as major engine failure, repair worth ~50% value of car) - lowballed me, threatened me (filed police complaint but not a formal report, yet, do I need to? To help my case?) - now completely out of reach.
Never replies to emails, letters sent as advised by Citizens Advice, some bounced back but finally delivered, no reply and finally letter stating legal action sent a week back.
Now, my questions are: 1. Firstly, do I need a solicitor? Citizens Advice said no- value of goods >10k so wonā€™t be through small claims. Where does my case go to?
  1. My case is of Consumer Rights Act 2015: A. Not as described - lying blatantly about service history, trying to cover up by threatening, unwilling to budge despite me asking to provide record of service history (checked with merc, last service done almost 2 yrs back!). B. Not fit for purpose: main purpose was safely carry my kid (almost 3) around and go to work (NHS) - unable to do so as car sat in my drive C. Unsatisfactory quality: literally parts are failing, not well looked after, sensitive info (against GDPR) of details about previous owners, BCA car auction details and paperwork, etc.
Will I be able to get my money back? What are my chances? Or do I suck it up and cough up almost Ā£8k (knowing value of the car will be Ā£8.5k max if sold NOW with part service history!).
My case is: no service history - vehicle not looked after and no service records hence faulty- blatant lies and threats when confronted re: this - unwilling to resolve and communicate - ā€œrejectingā€ letters citing incorrect address (when it was received and signed for in the past) to avoid being taken to court- severely affecting my mental health and patient care (NHS work, been off work for a month and went out of country due to immense stress!!).
I seriously need some help and genuine suggestions whether I could win this case or not?
Many thanks for your time in reading my life story!

2024.05.15 22:13 SubjectDaikon4878 Looking for people who have been refused reimbursement for warranty extension in Canada

Mercedes has refused to reimburse me for repairs done at my own mechanic, 1 year prior to receiving my warranty extension letter for the intake line / partial-load ventilation valve. Id like to find some other people affected by this ridiculous policy, and stir up some attention. You can see the specific details of my issue on my last post.

2024.05.15 21:54 SubjectDaikon4878 Mercedes refusing to reimburse for warranty extension!!!

I received a warranty extension letter for the intake line / partial-load ventilation valve.
My check engine light came on 1 year ago and I barely made it off the highway in severe weather. On April 19th 2023, my mechanic knew the exact issue, as he had already replaced tons of these valves on my model, and said it is an extremely common issue.
My repair was for Crankcase Vent Valve / PVC Valve for $1835 here in Calgary.
My vehicle falls within the guidelines for this warranty extension. I called the dealership to confirm with the parts department that this was the same part, thy said yes, talk to service. Service department at Lone star Mercedes wanted nothing to do with me. I called mercedes benz canada, the customer service representative had nothing other than the scripted sorry you're out of luck. I demanded to talk to a supervisor and the supervisor said that I could have called for Mercedes roadside assistance if I wasnā€™t able to go to a dealership for my repairs. I told him my car was not under warranty at that time so I would not have paid for absurdly priced roadside assistance or taken it to Mercedes regardless. He proceeded to tell me his hands are tied multiple times and will not recognize the validity of another mechanicā€™s diagnosis/repair. I did speak to a lawyer who said theres isnt much he could do for me. But suggested I find some other people in the same situation as me and use social media, google reviews, write a letter or email directly to Mercedes, in hopes of stirring up some negative attention.
Please get in contact with me if you are in this same situation!
Id definitely be willing to try to team up with some other individuals!

2024.05.15 11:27 derping1234 Style PS warranty claim

The scissors on my style ps broke and put in a warranty claim. Today I received a parcel from Leatherman with a new multitool, however it is a micra.
The letter that came with it mentioned that some products get discontinued and are replaced with newer products. So how does it make sense that they replace it with a micra? A great keychain tool, but hardly a newer product compared to the style PS.
On a related note, can anybody recommend a blade-less multitool with externally accessible tools?

2024.05.15 05:26 Incman I would love to hear from this subreddit regarding my (actually-this-time-unless-she-changes-) final letter to my nMom.

As the title states, (and despite the existential risk to myself - as I am disabled, impoverished, and my survival is reliant on the room I rent in her attic - given her recent threat to have have me thrown out by the police because she could not handle the feelings she had during the argument that she initiated), I have finally drawn a bright red line in the metaphorical sand regarding her treatment of me. This is the culmination of 8+ years of sustained, one-sided, unreciprocated, and unsuccessful effort on my part to sustain, salvage, repair, or improve our "relationship"

I've learned a lot from the stories and people on this subreddit, and I know if anyone can understand the way that I'm feeling about this it's you guys.

Any input, commentary, criticism, insight, commiseration, etc, is very welcome, and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it.

Anyways, enough preamble, here's the letter in all of my ridiculously-verbose inglory (the square-bracketed disclaimers, etc, were part of the letter as delivered to her, since she is selective illiterate whenever there's something she doesn't like):

2024.05.15 03:21 IllustriousSuit7085 Purchased new vehicle with a manufacturer and extended warranty. AC failed while under both warranties but was not properly repaired. No longer under warranty and car company refuses to repair. Do I have any recourse?

The vehicle was purchased new in 2018 and the AC system failed in early 2021 while under the manufacturer warranty. The AC system was "repaired" but failed again in May 2022 while under the extended warranty. Due to covid making it hard to obtain parts the vehicle was not worked on until August 2022. Again "repairs" were made but did not fix the issue. I took the vehicle back again in May 2023 when the vehicle was no longer under the manufacturer or extended warranty but I figured they would repair it considering their "repair" job was less than a year before. They looked for a leak but claimed they couldnt find one and said they could not repair but did fill it up with Freon so it worked the rest of the summer. I ended up filing a claim with the BBB since I wasn't getting any help from the dealership. The car company sent me a letter saying the AC system is covered under a 10 year warranty. I thought this was great and I would take the vehicle back the next year for repairs. This April comes and the AC is obviously not working. Take the car in and the dealership still refuses to repair. File a claim with the car company and they also deny to pay for any repairs. They explained that since their technicians were not able to identify the issue before the warranty expired they will not cover the repairs. Do I have any recourse?

2024.05.15 03:08 jackjeckal816 Beware the commercial lighting scam

Beware the commercial lighting scam
Last Monday I was paged on line 1 and received an incoming call from this company above. They stated they used to sell bulbs and lighting supply to the recently retired head of maintenance. I stated I wasn't interested in any bulbs, since I've just converted all the high bay fixtures to led with a 7 year warranty.
They said ok well thanks for your time. They also said they wanted to send me a free 45quart cooler, some can coozies and a new catalog for the time being incase I changed my mind. Since we've been a good customer from years past. They wanted to confirm the business address ........ I said sounded good to me. A week goes by I get a page from the secretary saying my bulbs have arrived. I'm thinking wtf I didn't order anything. They shipped me a box of 12 (4ft)led bulbs for office lighting. I said screw it and put them in the office closet for the time being. Thinking I'll just use them for when the office fluorescent bulbs start burning up.
Today I get an invoice in with a bill for 579$ and some change for the dozen bulbs. I get the bosslady on the phone explain wtf just happened . After looking up the company and reading the reviews they pull this scam for a living to big companies hoping it slips threw the cracks and they make easy money. Just thought I'd share this considering it could easily cost a fellow maintenance worker their job. We will be sending their bulbs back in the morning with a nice letter.

2024.05.15 02:25 OkSalt9038 How I Got Car Dealership LoJack Fees Refunded In Three Days

NOTE: THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE OR A GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE REFUNDED. CONSULT AN ATTORNEY IF YOU WANT LEGAL ADVICE.
I'm posting this because 'non-cancellable' or 'mandatory' LoJack fees/agreements are a very common issue for car buyers, and it often feels scammy or unfair. Well, that's because it is.
Let's clarify one item that is very important to distinguish: I did not dispute the placement of the LoJack device in the vehicle before or after the purchase or try to get the cost of this refunded. They will likely disclose that the device is in the car to you before the sale, and the cost is likely built into the price of the car and negligible to you. What actually costs YOU something and what you sign on the dotted line for is the service agreement/warranty.
First, you'll need to read the LoJack agreement very carefully. When I signed for my car, I read the terms which stated that that my LoJack agreement had a 60-day cancellation option. I was entitled to a full dealer-issued refund provided that there were no claims and that I notified them in writing within the initial 60-day period. Also, it said that LoJack could not be used to qualify me either for the sale of the vehicle or for financing. In short... it's cancellable and it's not mandatory, or at least it wasn't based on the agreement provided at this dealership.
I first sent my cancellation/refund request to the finance manager that did my deal with an attached business letter. He responded by saying that I could not cancel it. I was later told it's 'non-cancellable' both on the phone and in writing by the finance director. What they said was a direct and documented violation of the agreement. It didn't take a lawyer to understand the cancellation terms; it was very clear that they were not honoring the contract.
After we exchanged 4-5 emails without making any progress, I started filing complaints. Here's the list of agencies I filed complaints with (note, the names may vary depending on your state, or may not exist at all). Also, it should be noted that *most* of them do not have legally binding mediation or arbitration power; they are simply a channel for the government to provide oversight and to help you resolve your dispute.
Other people to report them to, to make their lives difficult:
This sounds like a lot of work, but once you type out your case (and be very specific - VIN#, LoJack agreement #, date of transaction, names of employees denying your refund, etc.), you can easily copy and paste it into the forms for the appropriate agencies. I also attached my contract and written correspondence to the complaints as evidence of their failure to uphold the terms.
\If you read your finance agreement and you don't see LoJack as a line item, it means the dealership likely built the cost of the service agreement for LoJack into the price of the vehicle. This is deceptive because LoJack, in my case, is a separate and cancellable agreement at contract signing. This is yet another reason to find and report them to the financial regulatory body for the dealership's state. Make sure they are aware of this information, as it is a deceptive business practice, and in no way makes the LoJack agreement 'non-cancellable'.*
Now back to the story.
I filed complaints with all of the above agencies within 7 days of signing my agreement, on a Friday. By the following Tuesday, the financial regulation office for the state for this dealership had opened a case and contacted the dealer. I received an email from the dealer a couple of hours later saying my check was in the mail. He provided a tracking number for the check.
No one wants that type of oversight or attention. It's not worth however much they'll lose by refunding you. In addition, the financial regulatory agency in the state I purchased in not only had the ability to mediate, but also to open a criminal investigation into the dealership if they found any laws had been broken. Which - I'm no lawyer, but it seems like that may have been the case for me. I'm confident this is why the general manager of the dealership promptly responded to me with a refund after they contacted him with my case.
I was amazed that the entire process took only a matter of days from the time I contacted the dealer to handle it directly, to filing the complaints, to finding a resolution. I expected there to be a much longer delay in the amount of time the state agencies presented the dealer with my complaint.
Note, if you are successful, you may not get a check. It may go to the financing company to reduce your balance (this is more likely if LoJack was a separate line item).
Last thing I'll say on this. By signing the LoJack agreement, I just saved $1000 on the price of the car. Had I refused to sign the agreement in person, they may not have gone through with the deal OR they would have simply raised the price of the car by $1000. It's also important to note that you should PRINT OFF THE ONLINE PRICE WITH LINE ITEM DETAILS if the dealership provides it, before you go to the dealership. If they deviate from the price or add 'mandatory dealer add-ons' (which are rarely mandatory), I'm fairly sure that would be considered bait/switch. The above-mentioned agencies will also want to know this information as well if you decide to go through with the transaction and have difficulty sorting it out with the dealer after the fact.
I hope many of you are successful getting refunded as well. Often people first think of the BBB, but they don't realize how little power they actually have. You'll make much more progress by going through government agencies, especially those with regulatory and legal oversight.

2024.05.15 00:39 HolidaySad5095 Blue Yeti Nano Issues

I recently bought a Blue Yeti Nano, it arrived yesterday. When I plug it to my computer for the first time it did turn on, but when I downloaded Logitech G Hub it completely turned off and won't turned on again.
I've tried to plug it on another pc just to verify it isn't my pc but I wouldn't turn on either.
I already tried looking for it on the Device Manager but it won't appear anywhere.
I've also tried resetting it, but the front button just stays red and it just stays like that...
I already talked to support yesterday but they told me it might be a hardware issue and they just told me to return it.

(8:58:28 pm) Peter O.: If everything has been tried and the unit only have red led and no response, it might be hardware issue itself.
(8:59:54 pm) Peter O.: If the issue persists. Since the purchase date is still within 30 days, we will need to refer to the point of purchase/store for a return and exchange due to their warranty policy.
(9:00:21 pm) Peter O.: For now please do reach out to them and in any case that they do not honor the return, please request for a denial letter then let us know or respond to this email so that we may take action accordingly.

I don't know if there is another option I can try, any ideas are welcome.

2024.05.14 23:55 TooMuchTime_33 PSA: TCV Claim - ADVICE

If you were one of the lucky few to have got the letter saying 2019-2021 models are eligible for reimbursement if you had to replace your TCV out of warranty...
If you already submitted your claim and haven't heard back...
CALL THEM! I submitted mine the day I got it, 4/11 and called back yesterday, 5/13 saying I haven't heard anything... Only to find out is was denied because the proof I provided at the time wasn't sufficient enough.
Sure enough, I submitted my claim again this morning 5/14 - detailed the extra pieces they needed - and it was approved within an hour.
THEY ARE NOT CALLING OR EMAILING IF IT WAS DENIED... which is annoying?

2024.05.14 15:54 DotAble6475 Warranty Extension Letter for DCM

Got a letter from Subaru about a warranty extension for the ā€˜Telematics Dara Communications Moduleā€™ for 2019 Legacy & Outbacks, and 2019 to 2021 WRC/STIs. OHhhhh! So thatā€™s whatā€™s been draining my battery? Iā€™m on #3! I thought it was just the lousy OEM and warranty replacement battery from the Subaru dealer. I live in MN and donā€™t drive far, so I thought the battery wasnā€™t getting charged enough on my short commute. Anyone have any experience with a dealer fix? Should I have it fixed now or wait until September 2025 when they say theyā€™ll have a new DCM available? Thereā€™s another winter between now and then.

2024.05.14 05:21 RealisticAd3919 Sorento engine overheated and head gasket replaced

I have a 2016 Kia Sorento. Currently the clock is at 125K miles. Around a month ago, I was driving it in the highway and suddenly car start to overheat (Engine temp gauge went up)And smoke came from the engine. I towed it to a nearby repair shop and they said the head gasket is gone and needs an engine replacement. They quoted $10K for an engine replacement and of course I didn't go with them.
Then I found out that I have received the warranty extension letter from Kia for the head gasket issue. I brought the car to a Kia dealership and they replaced the head gasket under the warranty. Also the dealership mentioned that the car needed a short block. All were covered under warranty.
I brought the car home but now I'm not comfortable driving the car for a long distance because I'm afraid that the engine will overheat again. Now I see lots of horror stories about Sorento engine failures. I still owe $10K for the car loan. Very soon the car will need tire replacements and some break jobs, which will cost me around another $2500 I think.
Anybody had a similar issue and how is your car doing after the repair? Should I stop spending money for this car anymore and sell it for parts or something? Because spending more money on maintaining this car and then the engine fails again down the line and if the warranty doesn't cover it, I will lose everything.
KBB trade in value is around $6K-7K. Anyway I'm under water. Maybe I can disclose the incident and sell it to a dealership for around 3K-4k?What is your advice?

2024.05.13 19:23 DetectivePride Buying a Lennar new construction model home

TLDR: First time buying a Lennar model home and lennar planting land mines every step of the way by revealing the last moment that they don't pay buyers' commission, the house has no warranty, tight contract deadlines etc.
hey all, I'm a first time home buyer and I recently found a Lennar community that I liked. Most of the homes in the community were sold out and they were down to the last 5 houses I think and the model home got listed recently. We had toured it with our realtor sometime back and was waiting for it to list so I can try and bid for it.
On the day of listing, the Lennar agent called my wife and told her that the house is now available and its a first come first serve. He told us to send over our pre-approval letter and reserve it at the earliest. I call him about 20 mins later with everything ready and he tells me now that the house is actually up for bidding and no longer first come as mentioned previously. I was to send in a bid and they will review it the next day. This was a bit weird but I decided its probably them trying to get max value so I went with it.
My realtor gets the purchase form ready, we fill in our bidding price and call him to check the process once. He drops the news that Lennar will not pay the buyer's agent commission and they prefer to work with buyers without a realtor. This was kind of a shock but nevertheless my realtor being a friend of mine, decided to just help me for that one day in good faith and gave me an overview of what to look for in the contract, how to navigate the process, inspections etc. I had introduced my realtor to Lennar on the first day of touring so this was a shock that they would only reveal it at the last moment but anyway it is what it is.
So I place my bid on a Friday night. They review it on Saturday afternoon. I get the call saying I won. Now, they have prepared a 200 page legal document for me to sign. I was to sign it by Sunday evening and also pay a 5% earnest money deposit. I told no way I can read it in that time frame; I also couldn't hire an attorney over the weekend and asked for more time. They simply refused saying they will go with the second offer if I can't meet the deadline. This sucked again. But my wife and I loved the home, the location and price. So thus began my long night of reading a complicated legal document with zero expertise.
I noted down my questions and reached out to the Lennar agent for clarifications. It turns out that since what I bid for is a model home, its warranty started the moment it was built -- which was 2 years ago. And I no longer have the 1 year workmanship warranty or the 2 year systems warranty. I'm essentially buying a 2 year old home with no warranty that is being sold as a 'new home'. This was not stated in the warranty contract. The contract explicity says that the warranty begins on closing date. I was furious and said this should've been atleast revealed before the bidding but the agent just gave a sales talk saying how the model homes has curtains that we get for free and how its been maintained so well that is might actually be better than the new homes :
So, in the nicest way possible I told them to shove the contract in their special place and told them I'm no longer interested. The agent said he will go with the "many backup offers" that they have on the table. They called me on Sunday evening again saying the backup offers were pulled out cos all of those guys who made backup offers had somehow bought other homes and management wants to close the house by Sunday night. Hence if I could state what the warranty is worth to me, they could work something out. But again I was to sign the contract within the next hour. I told them I will only sign after a full read through with my attorney and only after a 72 hour window from the time of giving me the final contract. The agent was no longer interested and said they will have to find another man to scam. He did say they will get back to me in 3 days if the house was still on the market.
Buying my first home is already a stressful life event and I'm burning through a huge chunk of my assets and savings and yet Lennar has been pulling this crap which honestly is infuriating. I would rather navigate this process with a realtor in my corner but the location of the house and its price point have been very tempting. What do you guys think my next steps are? in case they come back in 2 days with the house still on the table and open to a price decrease?

2024.05.13 18:23 Jealous-Weekend4674 Cheapest way to send a package to Taiwan

Hello folks,
I need to send a small package to Taiwan. It needs to be signed as it is an RMA.
The prices I had seen on DHL make it not worth the cost ( + the warranty claim can be refused).
Deutsche Post only allow letters and documents to be sent internationally (groƟ Brief)...
What are the (cheap) alternatives to send a package to Taiwan?

2024.05.13 06:23 SummitOfTheWorld Should I Take Best Buy to Small Claims Court?

Location: Colorado, United States
Hello. As the title indicates, I am questioning whether or not I should take Best Buy to Small Claims Court. To give some context, I bought a laptop in September of 2022 from Best Buy, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus GA5030RM. It was fine until two-and-a-half weeks in where it completely died on me. I asked for a refund, given how soon it happened but, they denied me this. Instead, they offered a repair under ASUS' warranty. I accepted since I couldn't be out of a laptop. This begun a year-and-a-half long of trying to get a resolution.
Since then, I have taken my laptop in for repairs approx. six times. Five of which were Best Buy and one ASUS. I have also done the following:
And, after doing quite a bit of research, I believe Best Buy may be violating the following rules:
Additionally, I would sue them for causing emotional stress from being out of a laptop several times during the Uni semester and for damaging my laptop (dents, obvious scratches, using super glue to hold a screw in).
So, to close this post, what else should I know regarding consumer rights and lemon electronics, and should I sue them in Small Claims court?

2024.05.13 05:40 superRenter0933 Seagate RMA denied and I do not know why

I bought an Ironwolf last year from Amazon and it sat in the brown box until February this year. I began building my NAS and found out the drive itself was DOA out of the box with loud clicking and noises that sounded like it was seeking. I bought a USB enclosure to test the drive and could not get the drive to be recognized by diskmgmt or crystal disk info on my desktop or laptop.
The warranty was good for three years and I checked with the serial number. At this point I sent in the drive for RMA (had to pay shipping) and it arrived at the Seagate facility in early March. I did not see any status update for about two weeks and I got in touch with their chat support who told me that it takes up to 30 business days from date of receiving to process the rma.
Ok fine, I wait MORE than 30 days and get in touch with their chat support again. They tell me they are escalating to a different team and they will reach out to me soon.
Come to find out later the Seagate team emails me that my RMA has been denied for the following reason:
We have determined that the products submitted are unauthorized or tampered products. As such, they are not covered by Seagate's warranty, and Seagate has no obligation to repair or replace them. Your warranty claim is therefore rejected as invalid.
Furthermore, Seagate also stated the following:
If we do not receive your written request and/or prepayment within 15 days after the date of this letter, we will deem that you wish to abandon the unauthorized products, and we will destroy them on your behalf. In such event, you will be deemed to have waived all claims against Seagate relating to the abandoned products. I
I replied to the email asking for further information as to what constituted "unauthorized or tampered products" as I had not done anything to the product like opening it, installing software on it(I couldn't even get windows to recognize the drive), or anything else related to unauthorized or tampered products. I have not gotten a clear response, only that the representative is waiting for a reply from the right team. As of this writing it has now been more than 15 days since that notice and I can only assume the drives have been scrapped.
At this point maybe it's my fault for buying from Amazon and not another seller. I checked that the listing itself was under the Seagate store but the seller was probably some drop shipping operation under Mani International Ltd: 501 Silverside Rd 105 #3693 WILMINGTON DE 19809 US.
Looking through similar threads I guess I learned my lesson the hard way.
At this point I just want a functioning drive and do not want to shell out another 200+ dollars for a drive. Even WD seems to have a terrible rma experience as well. What brand of drives do I even buy at this point when both major brands seem to have declining quality in products? Is this whole experience my fault? Should I have done more research and bought from a physical retailer so as to avoid this kind of mishap in the future? Any guidance is appreciated.
EDIT: Seagate reports the RMA was denied because of physical damage. I asked for proof of physical damage and am currently waiting.
