2024.05.16 18:02 WestsideTy As Many Niche as Possible

Hi Everyone! I posted this on Colognes but figured I’d share here, too.
I’ve always loved good smelling stuff and for the last 15 years I’ve usually had one bottle of cologne, and would replace once it’s out. Only in the last few months have I really delved into this world and began filling out a modest collection. I’m definitely not an expert (so take my reviews with a big grain of salt) but I love smelling and writing so here ya go. (Fucking wall of text incoming lmao, I didn’t realize how lengthy this got)
I just got back from a three-hour mall trip to try and get my nose on as many niche fragrances as my senses would tolerate. I had already done a good bit of research so I had some picked out to try and others already crossed-off. Im a 30M for reference.
I also had the goal in mind to find a contender for a fall/winter scent that exudes class, sophistication and decadence. For that, I’ve already tried a few that I really enjoy, and kind of used these as a springboard to continue exploring:
Xerjoff Alexandria II- This is what I envision royalty wearing. Lavender and rosewood mix soooo nice in the open, and dries into a lovey rose/vanilla/essence of oud. The oud is really toned down here for those that dislike it. It’s kind of hard to pick out. Nuclear performance.
Initio Oud for Greatness- Another good starter oud, you could say (this was my introduction to oud). It lasts forever and the dry down is seriously heavenly. The wet, soily oud is at the forefront for 2-4 hours, but I’m absolutely in love with what’s left when it disappears. Lavender, saffron, nutmeg and musk mixes into the best dryer-sheet-like scent I’ve come across (what it reminds ME of at least).
Perfums de Marly Haltane- Quite similar in the opening to Oud for Greatness. Haltane is darker, though, where I get more leathesmoke. I think the oud in this is more subdued, or at least less moist smelling. It blends well and lasts a good while.
Initio Atomic Rose- Holy shit. Apparently rose gets my motor GOING. I tried a lot of rose-centric fragrances today, but this probably still takes the cake for its balance and strength, in addition to the scent itself being just gorgeous.
So with those in mind I was off to Neiman Marcus. I sampled a large amount more than what I’ve written, but stuck to the ones that were memorable; good or bad.
Frederic Malle - Portrait of a Lady- My favorite of the Frederic Malle. Sensual rose/clove/currant at the front, but it is kind of hard to pick out specific notes on this one. After looking, I can get the cinnamon in the background of the dry down, it blends perfectly with the sandalwood, rose and benzoin after drying down. - Carnal Flower- Some similarity to POAL, lots of tuberose and jasmine, which I personally like. A bright yet sensual floral, and you get some coconut and melon there, too. I typically dislike coconut but this is blended masterfully. - Lipstick Rose- Yeah, that’s what it smells like. Try this if you’ve seen people describe scents as lipstick-y or violet taking on that accord. Not my cup of tea, also leans more feminine to my nose than the other two. - Musc Ravageur- I really wanted to like this one. And for a split second I did! A clove-y vanilla sasparilla is what I first got, and it unfortunately turned into barnyard urine. I immediately remembered seeing some reviews stating this, and I couldn’t get my nose to move past it. I can tell there’s good stuff there, but not for me.
Amouage - Reflection- The only one I’d tried before, and remains one of my favs. Rosemary and pink pepper greet you with a deep, fresh spice. The vetiver and patchouli sit nicely at the bottom, and the combination of white florals mixes wonderfully. Another scent I could imagine on royalty, and seems pretty versatile, too. You could wear this year-round without feeling out of place. Insane staying power. - Lyric- Probably my favorite, but I need to smell again on another day. Compared to the other Amouage, I had to continually stick my nose in the coffe beans to pick up the scent from the test strip. When I did get it, it was a lovely light, fresh scent. Quite a departure from the other Amouage I’ve tried, but great. No surprise, the list of notes are some of my favorites: lime, bergamot, rose, orange blossom, saffron, nutmeg, musk, pine, vanilla, incense, sandalwood. Seriously, love each and all those individually and they come together beautifully. - Interlude- Another good one. Dark, mysterious. Definitely get the oregano/peppepatchouli/incense bomb off the top. Leather lurking behind. I typically don’t gravitate toward the leathery scents but this one’s good. - Enclave- This pretty much seals the deal for me that on me, mint just ain’t it. I liked Sedley at first, but the mint somehow gets too cloying to my nose after too long. I can tell I would get the same from the peppermint in the opening of Enclave. I almost liked this one, too. If you can even tolerate peppermint, you’ll enjoy this one.
Mind Games - Blockade- Wowww. First sniff love, here. Explosion of citrus, juicy fruit-y sex. I usually find myself staying away from citrus-forward scents but this shit is next level. This will be a contender for my next upscale summer buy. - Double Attack- Another love at first sniff. It’s familiar, though. Chocolate/orange/cinnamon/vanilla. You’ll want to eat it right up. I already have this box checked in my collection, but may come back to it in the future. - Checkmate- Another lovely scent. Champagne, red currant, rose, magnolia, little patchouli. It all comes together really nicely, and it was difficult for me to pick out specific notes before looking. Not a love, but I was really impressed with the quality and scent profile of the Mind Games I tried.
Clive Christian - Town & Country- Wow. No seriously, like fucking wow. Smells like an Italian fruit cart strolling through an English manor’s sprawling garden road. I look at the notes and I don’t understand how you get this smell supposedly out of Clary Sage, Ambergris, and Sandalwood. Like, what? This is high quality shit. I get some pear or grapes there, too. Try this. - Crab Apple Blossom- Yum yum yum this is goooood. Smells like it sounds. Bergamot, apple blossom and rhubarb dance around playfully together. Can’t help but have a big stupid smile on your face when you smell this. The more it dried down, the more it might be my favorite over Town & Country. - Matsukita- Another great scent. In the same vein as the other two since they are part of the same “Crown Collection.” You get some smokiness, here. Bergamot with nutmeg and mate give depth and a little mystery. White florals, woody ambers and musk at the base. Just quality stuff here. All three of these in the Crown Collection were available in 10ml travel size gift pack for $300. Good idea to put on my wish list. That shit is kiiiinda expensive.
Xerjoff - Erba Pura- I did not expect to like this as much as I did! Favorite that I sampled. Perfect combination of citrus and fruitiness off the top, layered over a bed of sweet musk. Something here is very familiar to my nose but I couldn’t place it. This will be another top contender for a future upscale summer purchase. - Accento- Soothing scent. Fruity white floral (usually dumb reach for me), and the iris gives it some powder but not overpowering. Not as feminine-leaning as I would have expected. - Iommi- Delicious! Sweet smoky rum off the top, and it’s a little surprising how forward the patchouli and leather is in this. It’s bordering on being a little overpowering, but it tames a bit on the dry down. I’d need to see how this goes on my skin, for sure. - Torino 21- Another one that I liked way more than expected. I’m going back and seeing mint listed as a top note here…I didn’t get that! And thank God since mint usually is a non-starter. Kind of an aquatic green to my nose. Again, just a lovely scent. - Naxos- Yeah ok this is good shit. I was expecting a sweet bomb, but this is definitely more restrained than what a lot of reviewers will have you believe. I’m a sucker for lavender and bergamot. Throw in honey and jasmine atop a bed of tobacco, vanilla and tonka bean? Yes please. - Erba Gold- Pretty good. To my nose more feminine than Erba Pura, likely due to the extra fruits in the middle. That combination of citruses, pear and melon is reminiscent of particular ladies’ scents.
Louis Vuitton - L’Immensité- Ohhhh yeahh. Relaxation in a bottle. My favorite besides maybe Fleur du Desert. This, Imagination and Météore all kind of dance to the same song, so to speak. More than one of these would be redundant, in my opinion. The quality speaks through each of these fragrances, though- really nice stuff. - Imagination- The name fits, as a lot of the notes here are almost fleeting like a word on the tip of your tongue. It’s a great, calming scent but it didn’t blow me away. Like I said, L’Immensité was the best of these and I don’t see the need to diversify within this collection. - Météore- Compared to L’Immensité, there’s a little more sweetness here. This leans closer to a shower gel-like scent in my opinion. Still great. - Fleur du Désert- This one started out reallly good. Honey and cinnamon into rose and orange blossom is an intriguing, sensual combination. Unfortunately, smelling it on my arm after a couple hours, the jasmine and honey turn into something my mind recognizes as an old lady scent. The POAL on my hand, by comparison, keeps mixing with my skin in a great pheromonic way. - Ombre Nomad- Disappointed with this one. I’m realizing I don’t gravitate toward darker scents like heavy oud, leather, incense. I can tell it’s put together really well and uses quality materials, but this isn’t one that was made for me.
All in all, my main take-aways include: Xerjoff scents living up to the name. I was definitely impressed with their offerings, and would have expected it to lean closer to overrated. Same with Mind Games. Really enjoyed everything I sampled from them, even if it wasn’t my cup of tea, I was impressed with the quality. Also, I need to get back and sample the rest of the Clive Christian house. I was absolutely blown away with what I tried.
A little bonus: I tried TF Noir de Noir, Extreme Noir, and Cafe Rose. Extreme Noir is excellent. A regal mix of saffron, nutmeg and cardamom on top of rose and white florals. Ahhhh, again, similar to what I imagine a king or king to smell like.
Cafe Rose is probably the second best rose-centric scent to my nose besides Atomic Rose. I’ll need to put those side by side.
Anyway, feel free to ask away if you’d like. I was bored and inspired so killed some time writing this out :)

2024.05.16 18:01 Otherwise_Soup959 has anyone experienced rash in different areas after using protopic?

i am a woman with pcos and excessive hair growth which leads me to shave everyday. i developed pretty bad itchy, dry and inflammed skin from doing so along my chin, upperlip, and neckline where i shave. i went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me protopic to calm the inflammation which i read is used to treat eczema. ive been using it for over a month now, and while the skin where i shave has gotten alot better, ive noticed a completely different patch on my lower neck, where i do not shave at all. im thinking that some of the medicated cream got on that area repeatedly when i slathered it on my neck, and since the skin was healthy there, it caused an adverse reaction. Anyone else have experience with this? it took me months to get a derm appt for literally 2minutes after waiting in the office for 2 hours, so id rather not go back to the derm about this to ask if i should stop using the cream...

2024.05.16 17:55 slightlyasshole Awkward Situations while Driving on Careem/InDrive #1:

I've been driving my car: Suzuki Liana on InDrive and Careem partially since a year, and recently went full-time as I left my other job.
Many of the times, you end up meeting nice people but certain times you're carrying those who establish awkward situations that go way beyond the sense.
Picked up a family today from PIB Colony. It was Ride (Non AC) on InDrive and the fare was Rs 584 for 6.5 kilometers of dropoff distance and 3 kilometers of pickup, ending up in 9.5 kilometers of total ride.
So the eldest one of the fam, as we'd call him Mamu in the post, sat on the front seat while his niece, nephew and wife sat behind. As soon as I began driving, he asked me to turn on the AC and began sliding up the windows. I informed him that they booked a non AC ride, showed him the app details for verification.
Upon hearing this, Mamu's face turned annoyed and began countering the situation by asking his niece: "Anum ham us din Kitne men gye they Nanu ke Ghar AC wali gari men?"
Anum: 500 men.
Mamu while referring to me: Or woh Rasta bhi dur tha, gari bhi bari thi..woh Civic thi han.. (while nobody dries a bloody civic on these apps).
In response to the chronicle, I responded with hehe jee Sahi.. however, it was an odd situation as Mamu indirectly wanted to tell me that you can't turn your bloody AC on while driving a Liana in much price while we went on a Civic at longer distance.
Note: A pseudo name has been used for niece.

2024.05.16 17:46 ReasonableThing22 One week in London and Oxford at the end of June

One week in London and Oxford at the end of June
I'm going to spend about four days in London and three days in and around Oxford the last week in June (plus a travel day coming and going). I'll be there with two kids, so mainly doing kid friendly city stuff (ride the double decker bus, go to museums, see the Tower of London, etc). Not a lot of nightlife or fancy restaurants, but I do need to be comfortably out and walking around all day. I also will definitely take a few runs, so I need some athletic clothes. I'll have access to laundry, but I don't want to be washing things every day (maybe 1-2 times).
Current list:
  • Jeans (wear on the plane) - I do like traveling with jeans, but would consider leaving them if I thought the weather would be hot all week.
  • Prana light joggers - super lightweight and quick drying
  • Grey skirt (mid length)
  • T shirts/ bodysuit (x4)
  • Lightweight cardigan (wear on the plane)
  • T shirt dress
  • Athletic clothes (tank, shorts, leggings, long sleeve)
  • Shoes - white sneakers, running sneakers, walking sandals
  • Rain jacket
  • Not pictured - underwear (x6), socks (x4), bras (x2), sleep shorts/ shirt
So am I being too optimistic about the weather? I'm assuming that it'll be pretty moderate and could rain some/ most days. Should I throw in another long sleeve or light (non-rain) jacket? Or another skirt? Clearly, I'll check the weather before I go, but I do like to plan in advance.

2024.05.16 17:40 Asleep_Ad3006 Rash around new tattoo

Rash around new tattoo
I got this tattoo on Tuesday and last night I got out of the shower and noticed a rash around it. And I was also in my garage and it was hot out and I started getting a sharp itchy feeling so I went inside. That’s actually normal for me tho, if I’m inside all day and I go in the hot sun I’ll get a sharp itchy feeling throughout my back for a couple mins. But it’s never left a rash. Anyways I’m not sure what it is, it doesn’t itch or bother me. I got the other side done a couple weeks ago and had no problems like this.

2024.05.16 17:34 -curiously- Recovery and Relief

Both myself and my bestie have trich that manifest differently (I'm eyebrows, they're scalp). My symptoms have gotten better. But my friend's symptoms have gotten worse over the years. Especially this last year. They have a genetic predisposition for thin hair, but they also have a lot of health issues. They're under immense emotional and physical stress lately and they have doctors and a therapist working with them. They also have eczema. We've had conversations about what lotions/oils exacerbates that but I cant remember what. I want to surprise them with little self-care gifts, and since summer is around the corner I was wondering if anyone has tips on soothing the regrowth itchies and sunburn on a scalp. My hope is to find some tactile relief too.
They cut their own hair but they only shave their temples, and they keep the rest very long. so regrowth is very aggravating. They've always struggled with low self-esteem and have been bullied for being non-binary. They're looking to feel more feminine right now. And the way things are looking, a shorter cut will work a lot better than holding onto a thinning ponytail. I know how to cut short hair and they're up for my help. But the temples need to grow out a bit first so things can be styled in a way that will make their symptoms less noticeable (and hopefully easier to manage).
I'm not the only one who knows about the trich. But I am honestly the only person who checks-in with them when I see them pick/pull. It's just been breaking my heart to know they're hurting and to see them hurt.
Thank you ❤️

2024.05.16 17:26 Suspicious-Flower807 My horrible hand eczema is finally going away

I never posted on here but I wanted to share what I’ve done to help my sore weeping hand eczema, incase it might help anyone else struggling with eczema.
I’ve had small flare ups of eczema throughout my life and since last October I’ve had the worst flare up I’ve ever had. It was all over my hands and up my right arm, it was sore, itchy and had a awful burning sensation. It stopped me doing loads of things because it just hurt too much.
Recently I’ve started using calamine cream and calamine lotion and it really works. The calamine lotion really helped calm down the super sore weeping parts and dry them up within a couple days. The calamine cream which is less drying I mixed with a moisturising cream, I applied that all over my eczema. If you haven’t tried calamine products I’d would highly recommend them as they’re quite inexpensive and easy to get hold of.
I also changed the hand soap I was using to a very basic unscented soap (I think the previous soap was making my eczema worse). I also started a soap substitute (dermol 500) for when I don’t need to clean my hands quite so thoroughly, it’s really lovely to use as it doesn’t dry out my hands or irritate them.
I hope some of this might help someone as eczema is horrible to live with.

2024.05.16 17:09 Slytheringirl1994 [Misc] what were your skincare mistakes when first getting into skincare?

Here's mine and this was my night routine. I was a teen. I was into makeup and skincare always took a backseat to it. I would get home and reach for a makeup wipe and roughly scrub my skin with it, thinking I was really getting in there to effectively take off my makeup. After that, I would use just water to take off all the alcohol on my face. "That will do it" I said. When I would feel my skin being dry and tight, I would use my DIY oatmeal and honey exfoliator (oatmeal was ground into flour) and exfoliate my dry face pretty roughly as well and then rinse and then use a face cream that had fragrance which my face hated. The result was an irritated dry itchy face that when scratched would be red in that spot and a welt would appear. I would do this routine everyday. My poor skin. What were your skincare mistakes?

2024.05.16 17:07 Gremlinertia1 Eyelid skin issue.

So recently I've had an issue with scaly eyelids, flaking every few days, using mild lip balm as even a non perfumed eye specific moisturiser stings because the skin is not visibly broken but obviously has fissures, for history I did have either psoriasis or eczema as a kid but only on my scalp, elbows, knees and fingers which I grew out of. Dermatologist appointments are close to non-existent so any ideas? Most likely in a peri menopausal phase also if that offers any insight

My friend’s three year old has had a dry, itchy scalp (and trouble growing hair on the back of her head) since she was a baby. They’ve tried going to dermatologists but haven’t found an answer or relief yet. Are any of you aware of a super-soothing/calming treatment for the scalp that could be effective and safe for a little kid? Even if it doesn’t take care of the root problem it’d be nice to have her itching less!

2024.05.16 16:56 g3twr3nch3d severe itching and dryness

some back story, i got pneumonia 3 weeks ago and was put on 2 antibiotics, a week prior i was prescribed a new birth control, YAZ (for acne related purposes). about a week ago my vulva started getting really itchy and ive noticed a lack of discharge. I’m not sure if the antibiotics gave me a yeast infection? (i doubt because it’s super dry down there) or if the birth control YAZ is just making me super dry. I’m also confused why this started around 2-3 weeks into my birth control and halfway through my round of antibiotics. Does anyone have any insight on what this could be? Also if it’s birth control related does it go away on its own or should i look into switching my pills?
if i end up needing to switch the birth control can anyone recommend any good pills for treating acne? i originally started birth control around 16 to treat hormonal acne, and switched it for the first time in 5 years less than a month ago. the birth control i was on before never gave me any side effects, however it wasn’t treating my acne anymore.

What's the cause of this?
It's itchy asf and I've tried putting saliclyic ointment on it , it disappeared but it's back again. Is it an allergy? is it heat rash? is it my sweat causing this? It's been hours now and it still won't disappear. I've also used an antihistamine ceterizine syrup and I'm hoping that it'll go away in it's own.

2024.05.16 16:32 EmergencyBirds Severe Breakout Cause and What to Use?

Hi all! Wanted to see if I could get some advice about what I should be using right now.
Yesterday and today I’ve had the most godawful breakout I’ve ever had. A ton of little bumps all over my face and some with white heads, but my skin doesn’t feel dry or more sensitive or itchy or anything like that. I’ve also been breaking out on my face and neck, and I genuinely don’t think I’ve broken out this badly ever lol
I see a dermatologist for acne and was prescribed clindamycin, a low dose antibiotic, and a low dose Tretinoin back in March but had a follow up last week on Thursday.
Since then, they took me off of the antibiotic, had me try 3% Adapalene instead of the Tretinoin, and suggested I switched my moisturizer. Still using the clindamycin. So basically a lot of changes all at once and I’m a dumbass and didn’t think to ease into it since I’ve never really had sensitive skin. Everything was totally great until Monday night when all hell broke loose on my skin.
Should also mention that I have had issues with my birth control in the past so it could also be a hormonal thing? 🙃
I’m wondering what I should do as far as using everything I’m supposed to, I really don’t want to to irritate it more or anything but if it’s just hormonal I don’t want to make it worse by stopping everything yk?
I can post pics if needed, I’d appreciate any help! :)

2024.05.16 16:14 danyo41 New to Resin Printing - Newbie Tips?

Just picked up the Mars 4 Ultra last week and have been learning the ways of resin printing. I have about 5ish years FDM printing, but this is very different! I'm enjoying everything so far, getting a great spot setup to stay clean and dry. I picked up some foam brushes to wipe the prints with 99% IPA and a few containers and the AnyCubic Wash and Cure 3. Also using a large ultrasonic cleaner with the IPA.
So far, I've only been using the Elegoo water washable resin as I figured water would be easiest to deal with. However, I quickly found that IPA is the winner here - the water wasn't really doing much. I read that IPA should be fine on this resin - but curious if the regular non-water washable stuff performs better? Wondering what you guys have found worked well. I plan to airbrush or paint my prints, so just using ceramic grey - colors not important.
Next question - which is actually what prompted me to make this post - Where can I find good files for free?
So far, i've had 5 absolutely flawless prints and then 1 failed print with a ton of auto supports (chitubox). I actually took a design and edited a few things in tinkercad and added some holes and measurements to my preference. This actually printed really well, I was surprised. However, I'm no pro at CAD, I just do basic shapes and straight lines (jigs, tools, etc...) I know there are so many niche websites for models, but I'm not particularly into war games models. They seem to be 90% of what people are using these things for. I don't personally have a "use case" I just wanted to get into resin printing. My 1 failed print was from thingiverse. All the supports printed around the modeI, but at the end It was just a lump stuck to the vat. Not sure if "regular" STL files are fine to use now?
I am extremely familiar with all the main sites (printables, thingiverse, thangs, cults3d, etc...). I know that models for resin are very particular about supports - so really trying to learn how to determine what is a "good" resin stl. I wish I could filter the main sites by "resin prints" as it seems to be hit or miss whether or not they will perform well. I know some come pre-supported and some are obviously just the object. It seems like auto-supports are just not there yet? Or maybe i'm doing something wrong.
Any tips in regard to files and would be awesome! Thanks again.

2024.05.16 16:08 DeliciousNet8572 What can I use on this? Plz help:(

Hi, I have rosacea and PD and this red rosacea like itchy rash developed around and into my nose. The inside of my nose is super itchy and the redness looks horrible:( my Dr gave me doxy for a month 100mg/2x a day but I could only tolerate 3 weeks. It helped the redness at the time but not really the itchiness and after stopping it has come back the same as before.
I've recently started yaz bc to try and help the acne bumps, but is there anything else I can do to help the redness and itch in my nose?:(

2024.05.16 15:58 EverySir What is everyone’s favorite swim shorts?

I’m looking for a pair of swim shorts I can go to the beach/river in, and also lounge around for a vacation. I’ve been looking around but wanted some suggestions.
Brands I’ve come across are Chubbies, Fair Harbor, and Bear Bottom, but I’m open to other suggestions. Some graphics would be nice as an option, but I’m looking for 4-way stretch and quick drying shorts, and linenon liner doesn’t really matter to me. I’m 6’1 220 athletic build, so 5/7” inseam is good, or somewhere in between.

2024.05.16 15:55 Atrain77777 Non itchy bumps on husband and I

My husband cut a tree down last week in our backyard, I wasn’t near it when he did but there’s that. We also stayed at a hotel on Friday evening, Tuesday we noticed these bumps on us. My face, arm, armpit, fingers, hand and his hand. It is spreading too.
PLEASE tell me it’s not bed bugs 😖😖😖😖

2024.05.16 15:48 ochoochoochie Are these insect bites?

Are these insect bites?
These red spots on my leg appear occasionally on my legs and disappear after a few months, then come back again. No common trigger or anything. They are red and NOT itchy. When I try to scratch it, it turns white (looks to be because it’s dry skin).
Whenever they appear, I try to use eczema-safe lotion and Mupirocin gel cream but I’m not sure if they really help.
Consulted with doctors and they’ve only guessed that it could be hypersensitive skin, eczema, or an allergic reaction.
I sleep on the bed with someone else and they don’t have these.
Would love to get other thoughts on this!
