Hi! I have no question, just a ranty story.
So not revealing the names, but for 20 first years of my life I was called by a pretty girly name. It was ok for first 10 years, then I started to feel it's not me. It also was difficult to pronounce with my surname when answering the phone and I hated it very early age - in 90's we answered landline phone by saying "Firstname Lastname, hello?". I made up my new name by taking one letter off of other feminine name. It felt radical and that I broke that specific feminine thang, it was little odd, it felt good. It also is easy to pronounce, it's mellow, no sharpness or difficult repetition to it.
Turns out, it's a trendy girl name in my country now. Did not expect that. It's possible I didn't even come up with that myself even that's the story I tell myself. But even if it wasn't popular girl name, it still sounds too feminine now. The mellowness, the long vowel has begun to sound womanly again. I thought I broke that feminine name, but the sound of it is still almost the same. But mostly I'm bothered by how I have heard others hear that name. For them it's not the epitome of someone who is not neutral. That was the whole point of a new name, to give a clear message without needing to shout the obvious to everyone.
I don't want to change my name again. I have had this name now for 18 years, and I've gotten used to it, but this somehow feels off. Most common gender neutral names here are nature words, Cinnamon, Pine needle, White water, Autumn, Storm, Willow. They can be cool. It seems obvious that names also go in trends, and I basically think I should be happy to represent my decade.

Hi everyone. I recently interviewed with OAI and I'm just wondering what the experience has been for previous applicants/current applicants on waiting for results. How long did it take for ya'll to receive a CJO or a rejection? And whether or not anyone else from the April 2024 applicant pool has received news yet?
It's been about two weeks since my virtual and I can't help but feel antsy. (Still feeling good despite the anxiety, but we'll see of course!)
Furthermore, I realize with the nature of their flights, limited information is made public. But after some research and digging I found a couple influencers across platforms who seem to currently fly for Omni Air. However, I haven't really found anyone speak candidly about the company culture outside of simply where they've flown (even after they've left the company.)
Are there any Omni alumni out there who can tell me more about the reality they've faced working there either previous/present? What is it like flying long hauls? Sitting reserve internationally? Non-reving with them? Is it easy to connect with fellow FA's to explore new countries? And most importantly, if you enjoy charter over mainline/regional/low-cost carriers with a lot more domestic routes?

Hey all, I am relatively still relatively early in my current career (5 years in the industry) I’m doing some number crunching since I am eyeing on a standalone townhouse that is in a HCOL area. Bank estimates the total monthly payment (as of last week) is 4650/months (principal, interest, PMI, insurance, and taxes). My net income monthly is 7200. For the property, I expect there are some things that need to be done within the next couple of year, like replacing the roof (it looks worn), water heater replacement, and changing out the carpet. There are some moisture damage near the doors/sliding doors and the thermals in the skylight need replacing, but those shouldn't be deal breakers and are easily fixable. My rent is currently very low, which is why I am able to save so much.
Finances -
125k cash
110k in taxable brokerages (most are long term securities , roughly 50% in company stocks from RSUs)
Debt obligations:
I have a car loan-$431/mo. 42 payments remaining. 5% interest. Payoff quote is 16k, which I can totally pay off right now, but probably not best because of taxes — money is tied up in taxable brokerage accounts (see above). My parents have graciously offered to help me pay this monthly amount in the interim until I have more cash on hand to pay them back (like from yearly bonuses). They think I shouldn’t liquidate some of the brokerage accounts because stock will go up
Expenses (per month)

• Gas -> roughly $120. Gas is fairly expensive here. Summer time is here so I expect to do a lot more driving. Maybe maximum 150. My car’s fuel efficiency is insanely good for the vehicle type
  
• Groceries -> $250-300. I care a lot about what I eat. Nutrition is very important to me and I am not willing to skimp out on this unless it’s the last resort
  
• Car Insurance -> $115. I’m due to renew the policy and I was quoted $691/6 mo.
  
• Utilities (watesewage, garbage, gas, electricity, internet) -> probably $350. I currently pay about $170 a month, already split with a roommate. So I just doubled that to get a rough estimate
  
• Car tab renewal $60 -> I have no idea?? - I think renewal would be $600-700 per year. It’s a new vehicle so I’ll find out when the time comes.

Questions for you fellow redditors:

• Do you think my math checks out here? Am I overextending? I’m not sure if I will be “house poor”. Feels like the debt to income ratio is high here, but this would mean owning a property in a very lucrative area
  
• I’m tempted to liquidate my most of the brokerage accounts. Since the securities I’m selling are long-term investments, I should be taxed at 0% rate, right? Research shows that it is 0% for up to 47,025. So I will liquidate that amount and move it over to a savings fund (essentially converting it to emergency fund - money market at 5%). Will likely do the rest in 2025. Is this smart idea? If I do that, then I plan on upping the down payment to 20% and avoid PMI
  
• What’s the thought on decreasing 401k contribution to help with liquidity? My company has a generous match which is $0.50 for every $1 contributed, up to the maximum for traditional 401k. So when I decrease my contribution here, I’m essentially leaving out “free money” on the table here. It’s don’t know what’s better - build equity with property, or maybe miss out on the potential (compounded) gains with the decreased contribution?

When creating Tokyo Drift, Justin Lin the directoproducer had to fight for Han(a character he created) to be Asian. Tokyo Drift is a movie set in Asia and borrows heavily from different parts of modern modern Japanese culture. This movie would have only an Asian villain and a bunch of Asian background characters of Han wasn’t included. Lin creates this great character in Han to fill that void and Hollywood execs like the character but respond with “Why don’t we make him African American instead?”
I was reminded of this when seeing the new Assassin’s Creed because it’s pretty much the same mentality those Hollywood execs had 20 whole years ago. There was another post of someone who worked on this game early in its development and said it was originally supposed to be an Asian male main character, but the execs changed course. Similar to what was going to happen to Han if Justin Lin didn’t fight for Han to stay Asian. In this new Assassin’s Creed game, they are using Asia as the setting, using Asian culture so heavily, but again Asian men are being delegated to the villains/cannon foddeNPCs/etc. This happens in literally EVERY SINGLE instance the West uses our culture, people, and countries for their media. Last Samurai, Great Wall, Shogun, Tokyo Vice, Bullet Train w Brad Pitt, the list is long. You can even include Three Body Problem and The Company You Keep. If anyone is ignorant to this whole topic of Asian emasculation and Asian male erasure in Western media. I just started a new job as a news producer for a News TV station. (I just moved from one part of the country to the midwest). Its an average size news station btw. We have morning meetings where we pitch story ideas and I usually do not have anything. Everyone else seems to know whats going on. I’m not sure where they get information from. I found this sub and I think you’re my people. I’ve been a diehard Taylor swift fan since her emergence into the public sphere. She and I are almost exactly the same age so I’ve always related closely to her songs and really felt a connection in a weird way. I’ve been to every concert (minus eras … because I refused to pay 1k for shit seats) that she’s ever had. When she was a nobody I skipped school and took the train into the city at 530 am to see her perform on the today show. I am what you would call an original swiftie. But things have changed for me and it’s been a slow burn.
My love affair with her really started to get rocky post 1989. When the whole thing with Kanye and Kim happened, her reasoning of still trying to blame Kanye was a stretch for me. She got caught being shitty and refused to own it and instead made herself a victim. I really didn’t want to stop liking her even though my spidey senses were tingling so I kind of pushed the feelings away and persevered as a fan.
Reputation was not a great album but still went to the concert and it eventually grew on me but her behavior and antics became a downward spiral for me. Each album since 1989 I’ve liked less and less and I’ve still just been trying to hold on as a fan. For a while I tried separating the artist from the music. I overlooked all the terrible things she does (starting fan base witch hunts against anyone she feels wronged her, bleeding her fans dry with ridiculous releases of the same album, her handling of the eras tour tickets - I 100% thknk she didn’t correct the problem because she liked that her tour became a status symbol). It gave her so much attention and sympathy and blew up her name. Now knowing how she operates, I can totally see her being in on it. I guess in a way I’m sad because my almost 20 years of being a fan was really based on a lie and illusion. I live in Colorado, USA. My wife and I listed our condo for sale in early March and accepted an offer of 325k. While under contract a major wind storm removed roof shingles and we reported it to the HOA the day it happened. Nothing done for 3 weeks and during that period a major thunderstorm came and dumped water into our condo. Whole ceiling has water damage and since the roof is slanted the water ran between the ceiling and roof into our walls. While the roof was still missing shingles we contacted multiple roofers to see if we could pay for a patch but they stated the roof is completed failed from a major hail storm a year ago and the roof was also installed incorrectly. Roofers also said they would not work on the roof for legal reasons since they were not approved by the HOA.
We then had a lawyer write a letter requesting action and got nothing from the HOA. It’s been 2 months since that letter was sent and still the HOA won’t talk to us. Their lawyers have also not responded at all. HOA sent out unqualified people to patch roof and have since found out water is still slowly leaking in.
Since the roof was patched our buyer requested water remediation and drywall repair and since our HOA went silent and we are trying to close the sale we contacted our homeowners insurance. Insurance said sure we will cover it and we didn’t want to file a claim but we just wanted to be done with the condo. Water remediation comes in and starts demolition work this week and once they open the ceiling it’s mold through the roof and ceiling. Telling us they cannot keep working unless the roof is completely replaced, mold remediated, and then dry wall can be installed.
Also the roof was patched and the whole ceiling was replaced a year ago and the HOA contractors lied and said it could just be dry wall repair and just covered up the mold. It took us over 8 months to get the HOA to fix the ceiling the first time while water continued to pour in and damage our condo. So this is the second time this has happened in 2-3 years.
Condo is valued at 325k and our buyer just walked away. We cannot list for sale again until roof is completely replaced and water remediation and dry wall repair is completed. We disclosed everything to our buyer and they stayed with us as long as possible but finally decided to walk away today. All wrong doing was do by the HOA board and management company for negligence and unqualified contractors completing poor work.
New roof was quoted at 50k Water remediation and drywall repair quoted at 20k
What legal action can my wife and I take against the HOA board and management company for clear negligence, damages, and because of that negligence the resulting sale of our condo falling through?

• How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I would like to find a 2-in-1 with good battery life and great performance. I am looking for something that would also work well for taking handwritten notes, but if there's a crazy good deal on something without a touchscreen/stylus I will consider it.
• How important is weight and thinness to you? This is somewhat important (shouldn't be a 50lb dumbell) but not really a deciding factor. Anything will be lighter than my current laptop...
• Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I would probably prefer a slightly larger screen, but it's not horribly important.
• Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I don't play video games excessively, but I would like to be able to run at least mid-level games. JetBrains is probably my most used software. I would likely use CAD software, though what I know right now is OnShape (browser-based). I don't plan on doing video editing often, maybe like once or twice a year.

I'll be moving in the next few months from one end of the country to the other, does anyone know how exactly that process works? Given how far out it is I don't want to say anything just yet to my supervisowant to have a couple other things more concrete before I do in case it ends up not happening which is why I'm not asking them. Deer mice are promiscuous, with one litter having as many as four fathers, where oldfield mice are monogamous. The FDA approves of allopregnanolone for the treatment of post-partum depression already and when (the oldfield mouse version is) given to deer mice they abruptly exhibit parental behavior compared to the completely uninterested control. Oldfield mice have adrenal glands (where the hormone is produced) comparatively six times larger than deer mice (adjusted for their overall size discrepancy).

Normally these glands are divided into three zones. But the scientists discovered that the adrenals of the monogamous mice possessed a fourth zone.
“We called this the zona inaudita, which is Latin for ‘previously unheard-of zone,’ because no one has ever observed this type of cell in another animal,” said Natalie Niepoth, PhD, a co-first author on the study who is now a senior scientist at Regeneron.

This jives with our personal experience of our brains wanting to burn down our lives and become leaf-clad nomads living in our respective jungle-equivalent biome every month. Also from my personal experience PMDD makes it almost impossible to be perform even the bare minimum for the roles of parent or spouse.
