2024.06.09 12:21 Deep-Bed-9707 Proof of UK citizenship, is this normal now?

I've worked at a company for around 3 years now. The admin emailed me informing me that they needed proof that I am a UK citizen. Apparently if the home office immigration inspectors perform an inspection the company must be able to show all staff are legally entitled to work here. Is this the case as I can't find any info online regarding this requirement. The two issues I have with it, is the poor standard of care for sensitive documents. When I provided a dbh document it went missing for 6 months, and sensitive documents are left laying around for anyone to read. Secondly is just finding it almost rude and bizarre as someone who has lived here all my life, and has worked at the company for 3 years to 'prove' I am 'allowed' to work here.

2024.06.09 12:20 Little_Acanthaceae87 Research study: "A review of brain circuitries involved in stuttering" (2014)

PDF document: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4233907/pdf/fnhum-08-00884.pdf

Abstract

Stuttering has been the subject of much research, nevertheless its etiology remains incompletely understood. This article presents a critical review of the literature on stuttering, with particular reference to the role of the basal ganglia (BG). Neuroimaging and lesion studies of developmental and acquired stuttering, as well as pharmacological and genetic studies are discussed. Evidence of structural and functional changes in the BG in those who stutter indicates that this motor speech disorder is due, at least in part, to abnormal BG cues for the initiation and termination of articulatory movements. Studies discussed provide evidence of a dysfunctional hyperdopaminergic state of the thalamocortical pathways underlying speech motor control in stuttering. Evidence that stuttering can improve, worsen or recur following deep brain stimulation for other indications is presented in order to emphasize the role of BG in stuttering. Further research is needed to fully elucidate the pathophysiology of this speech disorder, which is associated with significant social isolation.

Broader Implications
The Basal Ganglia and Speech Pathways in Stuttering
The basal ganglia (BG) are crucial in selecting and disinhibiting voluntary motor programs while inhibiting competing ones, thereby playing a central role in voluntary movements without generating them. Dysfunction in the BG can lead to movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD), dystonia, and tremor. Evidence suggests that stuttering may also be a BG-related movement disorder, with altered connectivity in the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical circuit seen in people who stutter (PWS).
Speech Pathways and BG Dysfunction
Jürgens (2002) identified a cerebello-thalamo-cortical pathway critical for normal speech production. Lesions in the cerebellum and ventrolateral thalamus, which projects to Broca’s area and the supplementary motor area (SMA), can severely affect speech. Functional studies show increased activity in these regions during speech tasks, suggesting their involvement in speech production. Alm (2004) proposed that PWS have dysfunction in the BG-cortical pathway, leading to compensatory overactivation of the cerebellar-cortical route, supported by evidence of cerebellar overactivity in stutterers.
Role of BG in Dysfluent Speech
Studies indicate that increased neural activation in the putamen and caudate nuclei correlates with stuttering severity. For example, event-related fMRI studies show increased putamen activation following fluency-inducing therapy, but this activation diminishes over time. Giraud et al. (2008) found a correlation between stuttering severity and BG activity before therapy, which was lost post-therapy, suggesting BG involvement in stuttering. Their model suggests structural abnormalities affecting information flow from Broca’s area to the motor cortex may cause BG dysfunction, similar to mechanisms in PD and dystonia.
Stuttering and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
DBS, used for BG motor disorders like PD and dystonia, provides insights into BG’s role in stuttering. Cases report both improvement and worsening of stuttering post-DBS surgery. For example:
These cases highlight that DBS can modulate speech pathways in the BG, affecting stuttering severity variably. Some report improvement with specific stimulation parameters, while others note new onset stuttering or worsening of existing stuttering post-DBS, often depending on the target region and individual patient history.
In conclusion, stuttering appears closely linked to BG dysfunction, with evidence from structural and functional studies, similarities with BG-related movement disorders, and variable effects of DBS on stuttering symptoms. Understanding these pathways may guide future therapeutic strategies for stuttering.

Neuroimaging of Glucose and Dopamine Neural Metabolism in Stuttering

Glucose Metabolic Rates
State-Dependent Changes
Permanent and Reversible Hypometabolism
Dopamine Synthesis
Focal Segmental Dystonia

Brain Imaging Studies

Specific Activation Patterns

CONCLUSION

The etiology and pathophysiology of stuttering remain poorly. Stuttering is a disorder associated with significant psychological burden and social stigma, and work toward achieving successful therapies has been focusing on its psychological or psychodynamic causes. The increased recognition of a structural or functional neurological cause can render stuttering potentially amenable to surgical or medical intervention. Further research on the cortical and subcortical anatomical and functional changes in stuttering is needed. In this study, we have reviewed evidence demonstrating that dysfunction of the BG and of their cortical targets are a likely pathomechanism underlying stuttering.

Using Aveeno Shampoo Effectively
I recently tried the Aveeno Fresh Greens Shampoo + Conditioner, and I'm excited to share my experience with this product.
To get the most out of this shampoo, start by washing your hair with lukewarm water to help open up your hair cuticles and allow for better penetration of the nourishing ingredients. Work the shampoo into a rich lather, then rinse thoroughly to prevent any residue buildup.
For ideal results, use Aveeno Fresh Greens Shampoo as a daily clarifying shampoo to maintain a healthy scalp environment. This is especially beneficial for those with oily hair, fine hair, or color-treated hair. You can also use it in conjunction with other Aveeno products to amplify its benefits. Remember to be gentle when washing your hair, as rough handling can cause breakage and tangles.
Overall, I'd rate this product 9/10. I found that it helped to achieve softer, shinier, and fuller hair. If you're looking for a gentle, nourishing shampoo, I'd definitely recommend giving Aveeno Fresh Greens Shampoo + Conditioner a try.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Aveeno Shampoo Suitable for Children and Infants?
If you're wondering if Aveeno shampoo is safe for your little ones, the product description doesn't explicitly state its suitability for children and infants, so it's best to consult a pediatrician or dermatologist for advice.
Can I Use Aveeno Shampoo on My Pet's Fur?
It's essential to remember that it's not suitable for your pet's fur. While it's excellent for human hair, with a rating of 9/10, the pH level is not designed for your furry friend's skin. Using human shampoo on pets can cause irritation or allergic reactions due to the difference in skin pH.

Is Aveeno Shampoo Available in Travel or Sample Sizes?
You can find travel-sized and sample-sized Aveeno shampoos online or in-store, perfect for on-the-go use or trying before committing to a full-size purchase.
Can I Use Aveeno Shampoo as a Body Wash or Hand Soap?
This sulfate-free shampoo is specifically designed for hair, not skin, and may not provide adequate cleansing for your body. You might be tempted to use it as a body wash, like Sarah did on a camping trip, but it's not recommended.

2024.06.09 12:05 heehoipiepeloi Did I have a brain aneurysm / stroke / small bleeding? Serious question, would love your opinion.

I will go to my GP, i got gaslighted so much by medical doctors, that I would be interested to see if anyone has an opinion or experience to share about this. Is this possible or am I overreacting?
So for context, I got the 1P in 2021. Immediately, the left side of my body started tingling and has kept doing so for 1.5 years, resulting in nerve pain and paresthesia. Exactly 3 weeks after the shot, i had a "thunderclap" headache that was unlike anything I have ever experienced, on the left side of my head only. It was so intense that i literally screamed from pain and collapsed.
I nearly fainted, and had to recover for 5 months with the curtains closed, i was so sensitive to light I couldn't even look at my phone. I had to sleep sitting up, not putting pressure on the left side, or the pain would be too much.
My doctor said it must have been a concussion. I was 27 and at that time she was sceptical my symptoms even related to the V. And now I'm thinking, was it? There was no clear cause for a concussion and I'm seeing more V injured stories with symptoms starting 3 or 4 weeks after, and reports about aneurysms and strokes from the V.
After that, i had sharp jabbing pain and icepick pain in the left side of my head for 1.5 years. Right from the moment of the shot, i had tingling and burning sensations in the entire left side of my body. I developed neuropathy and paresthesia.
I had an internal bleeding on my left ovary in that same month as the thunder headache, developed ovarian cysts and endometriosis, and was out of work for nearly 2 years.
Is it possible at all that this was not a concussion? Can anyone relate or bring insight on this? I will see my GP in a week and bring this up, looking for some words of wisdom.

2024.06.09 12:00 HealthandFitnesswo Slin Glucose Disposal - "Carbs into Muscle" Supplements - Health

Finding the right supplement to effectively manage carbohydrates and enhance muscle growth can be a daunting task. After trying various products, I discovered Slin Glucose Disposal, a supplement designed to convert carbs into muscle. Here, I share my positive experience with this exceptional product and how it has transformed my approach to health and fitness.
Personal Struggle with Carbohydrate Utilisation
As someone who is passionate about fitness and muscle building, managing my carbohydrate intake has always been a critical aspect of my routine. Carbohydrates are essential for energy and muscle development, but they can easily lead to fat gain if not utilised properly. Before using Slin Glucose Disposal, I often faced challenges with balancing my carb intake, leading to energy fluctuations and suboptimal muscle growth. This supplement promised to improve carbohydrate management, and I decided to give it a try.
Noticeable Improvement in Blood Sugar Levels
One of the most immediate benefits I noticed with Slin Glucose Disposal was a significant improvement in my blood sugar levels. Before incorporating this supplement into my regimen, I frequently experienced blood sugar spikes and crashes, which left me feeling fatigued and hindered my performance in the gym. Since starting Slin Glucose Disposal, my blood sugar levels have stabilised, providing me with consistent energy throughout the day. This stability has not only enhanced my overall health but also boosted my workout efficiency and endurance.
Enhanced Muscle Growth and Definition
Slin Glucose Disposal has had a profound impact on my muscle growth and definition. The supplement’s ability to improve the body's handling of carbohydrates means that more of the carbs I consume are directed towards muscle synthesis rather than fat storage. I have observed a noticeable increase in muscle fullness and definition, and my recovery times have significantly improved. This has allowed me to train harder and achieve better results in a shorter period, which has been incredibly rewarding.
Increased Energy and Workout Performance
Another remarkable benefit of Slin Glucose Disposal is the sustained increase in energy and workout performance. The stabilised blood sugar levels and efficient carbohydrate utilisation have provided me with a consistent energy boost during my workouts. I no longer experience the mid-session energy dips that used to affect my performance negatively. Instead, I have the stamina and strength to push through even the toughest workouts, which has taken my fitness journey to new heights.
Trustworthy and Natural Ingredients
A critical factor that attracted me to Slin Glucose Disposal was its blend of natural and safe ingredients. The supplement includes a combination of herbs, vitamins, and minerals that support healthy glucose metabolism and muscle growth. Ingredients like berberine, alpha-lipoic acid, and cinnamon extract are well-known for their efficacy in managing blood sugar and improving insulin sensitivity. Knowing that I am using a product made from natural components gives me peace of mind regarding its safety and effectiveness.
Overall Enhancement in Health and Fitness
The comprehensive benefits of Slin Glucose Disposal have not only improved my carbohydrate management but also enhanced my overall health and fitness. With better energy levels, improved muscle growth, and stable blood sugar, I feel more in control of my body and my workouts. The positive changes I have experienced with this supplement have significantly enhanced my quality of life and my results in the gym.
In conclusion, Slin Glucose Disposal is an outstanding supplement that has delivered exceptional results in carbohydrate management and muscle growth. Its natural ingredients and effective formulation make it a valuable addition to any fitness routine. I highly recommend Slin Glucose Disposal to anyone looking to optimise their carbohydrate intake and enhance their health and fitness outcomes.

2024.06.09 11:59 Happy_Membership9497 4th loss

I’m just towards the end of miscarrying our 4th pregnancy (no LC). We have a very complicated journey to parenthood and I just wanted to share, because yesterday I had the worst day so far and I’m feeling really hopeless.
We are 38F and 39M, TTC 8 years, IVF for 6, multiple surgeries. MFI intermittently, unicornuate uterus, hydrosalpinx (finally now sorted this year), PCO, uterine fibroid and endometrial polyp removed.
Timeline: 2019: surgery (left tube blocked and removed) NHS IVF1 - 2 day 3 embryos, mild OHSS. FTE 1 chemical pregnancy, FTE 2 failed Late 2020: NHS IVF2 - 1 day 3 embryo, mild OHSS. Two transfers cancelled due to lining not thickening 2021: hysteroscopy, unicornuate uterus, found fibroid and polyp. 2 surgeries to remove them 2022: FET, 2 out of 3 cells died with thawing, failed Private IVF3 - 5 day 5 embryos. Fresh transfer failed. FET two embryos, chemical 2023 - cancelled FETs due to lining not thickening. FET two embryos, chemical Private HSG and endometrial biopsy. Biopsy normal, given 57% chance of ever having live birth. HSG showed hydrosalpinx that should have been removed in 2019. Referred for surgery 2024 - salpingectomy. IVF4, 3 day 5 embryos. 2 are frozen, one fresh transfer resulted in MMC at 8 weeks
We were able to send the gestational sac for testing (thank you Reddit for the info, because nobody told us)! Waiting on results. This seems like a chromosomal issue, while I’m convinced the previous chemicals were heavily influenced by the hydrosalpinx.
I found it easier to move on the previous times, because I could focus on the next steps. But now, we have two embryos left and we’ve decided that we won’t do more IVF because we are tired of the losses and grief. We also want to move on with adoption, which we can’t until we stop.
I’m finding it really hard to cope with the fact that those two embryos are our last chance of a natural pregnancy. I’m not even sure if I’d prefer for them not to work at all or work but going through loss again. And that just breaks my heart even more. I’m just feeling terrified rather than hopeful.
To make things even worse, the hormones are dropping, which is making me feel rather shitty about myself and everything around me. Yesterday I woke up feeling really sensitive and cried a lot. Then I saw two pregnancy announcements on Facebook and basically cried the rest of the day uncontrollably.
I want to feel hopeful but all I feel is scared.

Ok this been going on for more than a week now, where I live the house has no history of anything bad, my bf previous gf pass away in the house and I know she’s a good person, I been living here more than a year I had few moments of can’t be explained but doesn’t linger like this one.
I have collection of porcelain dolls not of them are hunted since it’s been months since I got them. I can usually feel them sometimes see but hearing very few moments. Also premonition dream or warning dreams. It doesn’t bother me until this past days.
At first I thought because I watched a footage of a ghost child and it attached to me , I know few things like this happened when I’m in not in my best health I’m currently recovering from a surgery. I usually ignore it but this one seems a bothersome.
The feeling starts happening like someone is looking at me from my window and my room is upstairs. Sometimes I feel someone is with me in my room since I can’t see it I shrug it. At one point I have to sleep at the other room where my partner is, when he got home from work he told me he had a dream about haunted house with porcelain dolls that the dolls are located in a odd shelf hanging mid air… and I was like well great now I brought this to him, he doesn’t have any sensitivity like me… I told him that this morning I couldn’t take it anymore being watched so I move to his room for a nap.. he told me maybe ask what it wants but I didn’t want to encourage it and invite more, but tonight I try to cuddle with him and end up falling asleep in his room he ended up waking me up from a nightmare.
I dream I was downstairs it’s out house saw some of my dolls all over the stairs so I start going up stairs and saw more in the hallway and two more in our restroom started to feel uneasy and I started screaming and calling for him and he woke me up, and I ask if he heard me having a nightmare and he said yes.
So I ended up waking up go to restroom and I heard talking outside the restroom at first I thought maybe he left the tv downstairs. . But nope heard couple sounds like house is settling none of this happened before.
Yesterday watch trolls kids movie and I thought it left already.Currently watching teen titans cartoons it kinda calms it down, whatever it is, it’s not downstairs but upstairs. I think it might be a child or kid .
We also have 3 cats and a dog. One of the cat is a total people person he loves attention and act like a dog. This cat won’t go near me every time I ask him to come in my room he would just meow at me and stares at me like 10 steps away from me , this happened 3x already. I ask the same cat to come near me if I’m downstairs or if I’m in a different room and he doesn’t have problem with it. The same cat went to my room before coz as I said he loves attention but not anymore.
Now I don’t know what to do should I interact and ask what it wants or just keep ignoring it. How do I handle this? What will you do? Should I get a spirit box and ask?

2024.06.09 11:15 VioletCosmos135 Need opinions on what I should do.

I'm a 27 year old woman from Mumbai. A few months ago I got married to my husband (let's call him B) who I've know since I was a child. He's 30 this year.
To give some background about me and my husband, we are childhood friends and grew up in the same society. I've had a crush on him since I was like 10 years which went away for a while when I was 14 and he began dating another girl. Almost everyone knew that I had a crush on this guy since I was quite obvious but B never tried to treat me differently or anything. At the time I was more like his friend's sister and nothing more.
He dated his then girlfriend for four years before she cheated on him and they broke up. Now older, we had become good friends and I had stopped being so obvious about my crush though it didn't go away completely. After his break up we became closer friends in following years, that is, close enough for me to be comfortable about discussing my insecurities.
Now, by the age of 22 I had not dated anyone yet. My insecurities mostly lied in my looks and appearance. I was a little on the chubbier side and I wasn't very pretty either, both which were quite a sensitive point for me though I had started working on myself.
After I'd lost some weight by the age of 24, B and I had gotten much closer that people had started assuming we were dating. And we eventually did that same year. We dated for 3 years before deciding to tie the knot. We had both been ecstatic to spend our lives together.
In the present, it's been a few months since we got married. A college friend of B (let's call him C), had organized a party for their batchmates and had asked them to bring their spouses or partners as well. I'm not a big fan of socializing but because my husband insisted, I chose to attend as well.
Things were going well at the start. I already knew a few friends of his so it wasn't very awkward for me when he left my side and I was genuinely enjoying myself.
A few hours later, I'm tired and wished to return home so I went around trying to find my husband. I spotted him in the corner with C and some of the other guys and approached them.
When I was close enough I overheard their conversation and that is when my heart broke.
I had known that my husband's ex was here as well, since C had called all their batchmates but I didn't really care since it had been almost 10 years since they broke up.
It was C who asked B how he felt downgrading from his beautiful ex to me. Instead of defending me or taking a stand for me, my husband (who has probably had too much to drink) hums and says that his ex was still as beautiful as ten years ago. He then proceeds to say that I'm nowhere as beautiful but a marriage can't have everything after all and that he's satisfied.
Even though he said he's satisfied in our marriage, I'd always thought that for him I was the most beautiful woman. His words hurt a lot since I've always been insecure about my looks.
It is C who notices me and starts panicking while nudging my husband. When he glances at me he is surprised and starts panicking. I brush off all attempts of him and leave the party, tears in my eyes.
I quickly book an Uber and leave for my friend's house who lives close by, leaving my husband there.
It's been three days since then and I'm still at my friend's house. My husband has tried calling me and has left thousands of messages apologizing and wanting to clear up the misunderstanding. He's even tried to meet me but my friend has refused to let him in.
After three days, my anger has turned cold and I've started wondering if I overreacted just because my husband said that his ex was prettier. I mean, in the end, he did marry me right?
I'm really confused as to what I should do now. Please help me.

2024.06.09 10:51 Flat-Dingo4606 my parents (and extended family) have been abusive towards me both physically and emotionally my whole life. i dont know what to do anymore.

i (18y) have been abused by my parents and grandparents for as long as i can remember. my first memory is my grandad approaching me as i was sat down on a potty (one of those weird plastic toilets toddlers have) and picking my up by my shoulders. he screams something at me before he puts me down and slaps me across the face. i was about 3 years old. i feel the best way to talk about this lifetime of abuse is to tell it in chronological order from the best of my ability (my memory surrounding certrain things is hazy as for a while i tried to forget as much of this as i could)
firstly i think its important to give some information about my mum and dad. my dad was 17 when i was born and i believe my mum was 21. he lied to her about his age. my dad is addicted to weed and i know for a time he was addicted to coke too. i remember he would often get arrested a lot. he would also say he was leaving us but return hours later very clearly off his face on coke and whatever else. my mum is a very manipulative and emotionally abusive woman. when i was 7, i witnessed her kiss another man in front of me. we later on found out that they had been seeing each other for ages behind my dads back. i havent been able to forgive her for that. it's also important to note i have many siblings (i wont say how many as i have already given a lot of telling information and do not want my family to know ive typed and posted this, many of my family members use reddit).
from the age of 5, i remember getting beatings almost daily from my mum or dad. these would be for the most minor of things such as forgetting to flush the toilet or turning the tv up a little bit too loud. these weren't little taps either, i got fully manhandled and punched. often i remember my dad pinning my down so my back is facing upwards, he would hold my hands around my back while my mum would hit me on my ass until it was red raw. no one can justify that. sometimes it wasn't always my parents though. sometimes they would call my grandad. for such a long time the word grandad evoked so much fear in me. when i was told he was coming over i would run to my room, but on as many layers of clothes as i could and hid under my blanket. when he arrived, he would berate me about how much of a disgusting little cunt i was before he would punch me in my face and all over my body. often i would have bruises as a kid, i dont know how teachers at school didn't pick up on it. i remember one Christmas eve my xbox account wasn't working (cant remember why) and this understandably upset me, i was 8 after all. my dad called my grandad over, and i did the same routine. clothes on, over the covers and pray he doesn't hit me too hard this time. this time was different though. he came into my room and pulled me out of my bed by my arm and threw me down the stairs. i ran into the living room where my nana was. she slapped me in my face so hard i fell to the ground. i tried to run out of the room only for my grandad to push me back into it. i was made to sit on the couch while i got called the most horrific names. i was so scared i wet myself and couldn't stop shaking. i was 8 years old.
not long after Christmas, it was my birthday. i got disney infinity and a bunch of the little figures to go with it. for months this was my hyper fixation, i would play it daily and completed everyone one of the story set things i had. one day my grandad came over, and he started his usual borage of insults. he turns to my organized disney infinity figures resting upon my xbox 360 (jesus im old) and kicks them all over just avoiding the xbox. he then turns around and leaves. he broke so many of the figures, i cried for hours and hours in my room alone. no one came to check on me. the figures being broken hurt so much more than the beatings i was now used to.
from this point onwards, things are a little fuzzy. i move house a few times and am now in secondary school. im 13 years old, and questioning my sexuality heavily. i get into fights both inside and outside of school and have started smoking cigarettes. the physically abuse had stopped, but the emotional abuse had got worse. at the time i was a very fat kid. i would eat to feel better. my dad would often call me fat and insult me for everything i did. every song i played, booked i read and film i watched. he would rip into me daily for no reason at all. he would often say if i wasn't his kid and he saw me when he was a kid he'd beat the fuck out of me. when i was 15, life started to get a bit better. i found a group of friends that liked me, i was no longer questioning my sexuality and was fully comfortable saying i was pan-sexual. i also started to smoke weed with my best friend, which has given us some of the best memories. in the summer of that year, we got evicted from our home and had to move into an emergency house. this was hell, and one of the worst times of my life. i slept on the couch and my pc was in the kitchen where often my little siblings would throw food on it and try to tip if over. my parents did nothing to stop this. the insults still followed and i was made to feel so insignificant and small. the most i slept in the 4 months we lived there was 5 hours a night. one time my dad was berating me and he got in my face because i said something back to him. he pinned me against the wall by my t shirt. for the first time, i felt all of the rage i had kept bottled up since i was a kid overflow and i punched him square in the face. he fell back and looked at me in shock. my mum rushed to his defense and screamed at me to leave. i left for a few hours until my dad called me and told me to come home. we haven't spoken of it since.
now i am 18. i am in the last few days of college then im off to university. the emotional abuse still continues and there are so many things that im leaving out for the sake of length. i could genuinely write a novella about all of this shit. i am not sure what to do moving forward. i really want to block them out and live my life peacefully and free. however, whenever i think about doing this i feel really guilty. luckily i have an amazing and supportive partner who is helping me make sense of all of this. the scars still feel fresh. for anyone who is in a similar situation but has years to wait before they can leave, keep your head up. right now i know it is hell and it seems like there is no end. my best advice is find something you love and cling onto it, passion is found in the darkest of place. in my case, it was films. you are not crazy or being sensitive, it is abuse.
any question feel free to ask, thank you for listening.
EDIT: sorry if some of this makes no sense im dyslexic haha

2024.06.09 09:55 PurplePonyPants Extreme muscle spasms after starting Trepiline

Hey all, so my GP prescribed Trepiline for me last week for migraine and chronic headache. It's 10mg and I've been taking it for the past 3 nights only.
Yesterday when I woke from an afternoon nap I had the worst muscle spasms in my left calf and top of my left foot that I've ever felt in my life. I'm talking crying and screaming in pain it was so bad. My partner tried massaging my leg but it was so sensitive I couldn't let him touch me. It lasted around 10 mins and only stopped after I started punching my own leg, kind of like a deep tissue massage I guess.
I'm wanting to find out from others who take or have taken Trepiline whether this is a common side effect, if it will pass after a certain time if I continue taking it, or if this is something I need to go back to my GP with?
I plan on calling my GP tomorrow but I'd really like to hear about other people's experiences so I have a better idea about it before talking to her.

2024.06.09 09:51 RitmosMC My ears clog up every time I swim. I love swimming, but this is unbearable. What should I do?!

Currently writing this half-deaf 😭
I'm (16M) on a beach trip right now, and we went to the pool. I didn't notice any immediate issues, but now, about 8 hours later, my left ear decided to clog with water and I'm effectively half-deaf.
This is a recurring phenomena. Last time we came to this beach, approximately 3 years ago, I suffered from water constantly getting stuck in my ear. The year before that I had this really weird thing where my left ear (same ear as is currently clogged) got really hyper-sensitive to high-pitched noises for a week.
I absolutely despise all this. Hearing is my one good sense (I have like 400/20 vision w/o glasses, as well as annoying year-long allergies that leave my constantly unable to smell half the time, also by extension lowering my taste. I suppose I have touch, but that barely counts). It's so annoying that every single time I enter a pool, I have to experience days of my ears just clogging up, acting otherwise weird, and just being altogether jerks in general. (It seems to be especially the left ear, but both are issues).
Please, help me; what can I possibly do to go to the pool again without my ears clogging up, getting infected, or worse?

2024.06.09 09:41 Happy_little-devil Is it right to cut out people who make you feel interior?

My friend (F), let's call her Manny. I first met her in middle school she was new and myself and a friend of mine became friends with her. She lost her friendship with two people become our ex-friend joined them. Was a friendship triangle of some sort. Fast forward to Highschool we are still friends but she switched school but we joined the same tutoring center, so we met everyday here after school. Our other friends from her school and mine who were in the same tutoring center used to sit with us. She used to make fun of me to an extent it made me feel low and worthless. I hated it but since I was a people's person I was letting her treat me wrong in the name of friendship.
Soon we completed high school and joined Universities, we used to have random group calls, I loved my major and was very proud of joining it. During the group calls she used to make fun of not just me but my major and how it was useful and others just laughed with her. I was frustrated, I left the call saying anything and did pickup any calls from the group people. She kept on calling me and when I picked up she asked why I was avoiding everyone and I changed after I had new people (my university friends) in my life.
That was the time I knew I needed to stand for myself and not be a coward waiting for someone to help me, I strongly made my comment on how she ill treated me, made me feel interior and I don't want to be a part of anything that doesn't make me comfortable.
She kept on going tell me that she was looking out for me and that I didn't know how to take a joke and I was sensitive. I made a decision that day and cut her out of myself. Do you think I made the right decision or was it not a big deal?

2024.06.09 09:21 boothergon 3RD CHAP UP, THE BOLT - Dramione secret relationship - denial, angst, and pining, partially inspired by Normal People!

Link:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/55739491/chapters/141499021
Excerpt:
She had laid her head on his shoulder, her heartbeat thudding against his bicep slow and deep, and against his arm her skin was soft and smooth and cool. If he had moved a couple centimeters to the left, his lips would’ve brushed the top of her head; if he’d dipped his head down, he would’ve grazed the contour of her collarbone, skimmed the small, shiny scar at the back of her neck. Strands of her hair tickled his nose; both their books laid open on the couch, forgotten; Hermione’s breath fanned against the crook of his arm, through the thin cotton of his shirt. Draco had thought: This is what closeness feels like. He didn’t know he craved it until it was his.
Draco supposed that Hermione was the only real choice he’d ever made. It was the only deviation he’d ever had the bravery to commit to, and the worst part was just easy she had made it for him.
Summary:
A world without Voldemort, in which the Triwizard Tournament occurs in their sixth year. This story navigates Draco's and Hermione's relationship through their sixth and seventh year. Involves secret relationships, pureblood and muggleborn politics, love, and growth.
Notes:
3RD CHAPTER IS UP! This is in Draco's and Hermione’s POV. This is a very new fic of which I am extremely excited to write; if you love Normal People or Fleabag I try to incorporate those themes of love and growth as much as I can! Both Draco and Hermione are a bit shyer, more sensitive, and more uncertain in this fic, because I wanted to make things a bit more realistic (and I love a good gray area). This fic will also dive into pureblood culture, expectations, and politics more heavily as well, so if you’re interested, please give it a read!

2024.06.09 09:20 Agentsinger Can I still work out with a deep shin bruise?

Hi all. 34F. On 5/25 I got hit in the left shin with a baseball at a game. I’ve seen my PCP/NP and we did an Xray, yay no fracture! It’s a deep and still very sensitive bruise. They recommended rest, ice and elevation for it which I’ve been doing along with having a brace for when I can’t have it elevated.
My question is, would swimming/short slow walks on the treadmill be a bad idea? I’ve recently stepped back from my “9-5” job to pursue other things and one of them was trying to lose weight with diet and 5-6 days a week at the gym - alternating swimming and cardio/weight training. I want to be careful but I was really getting into a routine and I don’t want to gain back the 20 pounds I’ve lost.
I currently take naproxen 2x a day for the swelling/pain but I was wondering if a spray on icyhot or similar would help? Can I at least swim if treadmill/weights are a bad idea?
Thanks so much in advance!

2024.06.09 09:17 bloodwessels Anyone ride a motorcycle?

First off, just found this sub. I can’t believe it took me this long.
(40 yrs old - NY) I’ve had cholesteatoma / ear infections since birth in my left ear. Had 2 surgeries (2010 & 2017). First surgery involved removing as much of the infection and rearranging the bones right behind the ear drum, the 2nd of the 3 tiny bones completely deteriorated. If it wasn’t for that Dr I would be deaf in my left ear. Second surgery was a revision and to create a bigger ear canal (to expose the back of the ear) so any reoccurring infections can removed in-office instead of repeated surgeries.
(After reading some of the other posts I feel like I got lucky) Other than the occasional ear infections I have no other issues, not even balance issue, other than slight hearing loss due to the ear canal being bigger. However, my good ear, right ear, has become more sensitive after the second surgery. My Dr thinks maybe I had cholesteatoma in both and now is when it might be showing up, but she’s not 100% positive.
I don’t know if it’s a “midlife crisis” or the change in mindset (post pandemic) of wanting to do things, more goal oriented so to say, but within the past 2 to 3 yrs I’ve become more interested in learning to ride a motorcycle. I put it off thinking it was just a spur of the moment urge. But here I am, 3yrs later, still looking up videos on YouTube lol.
So I was wondering if anyone here rides? Especially curious to know if anyone has done it post surgery. I don’t plan to ride in the rain or the winter months. I’m more concerned about the wind/noise/ear pressure that comes with riding a motorcycle. Part of me says if I get the best helmet for wind noise reduction + some kind of ear plugs then I could be fine, but the other part is saying “why even take a chance at doing something that can make the ears worse?!!!”
Tried to do some research on this and that’s how I finally found out about this sub. TIA

Yoshiharu Tsuge - Oba Electroplating Factory - August 12, 2024

https://preview.redd.it/hwk8qhlfuh5d1.jpg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3575437e6b9807c5c04b4fc50a467d6dec3e838a
An alt-manga legend strikes out on his own, creating some of his most revealing and personal worksOba Electroplating Factory is a startlingly bleak but nonetheless captivating portrait of mid-century Japan in its most unglamorous iteration. Glimpses of the artist reflecting upon his life, his work, and his contemporaries pepper the narrative landscape: a wife teases her husband about a former fling on a trip to the hot springs, a young cartoonist is aghast at the cavalier conduct of his supposed betters, and imperfect men must grapple with the discomfort of their own honesty. Tsuge’s stories are studies in staging nature, working to evoke stillness and movement in such a way that renders his chosen setting a character all on its own.
Following the breakthrough success of Nejishiki, Yoshiharu Tsuge forges a path for autofiction in manga and changes the cultural landscape of comics forever. Some of his most revealing and personal works were published between 1973 to 1974. As much as it is a testament to the author’s predilection for addressing sensitive and mature themes in response to his culture, this volume also collects works from the only period in which Tsuge tries his hand at writing for a mainstream audience in earnest.
This fourth volume in the complete works of a legendary manga-ka is an indispensable addition to the literary comics canon and shining example of world literature at its most human.

Shigeru Mizuki - Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki - October 14, 2024

https://preview.redd.it/kpnqg2nmuh5d1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff6810653955fdc55f72b94b780283d75df39178
Manga’s most beloved creator ventures into Japan’s mythical past and emerges with a menagerie unlike any other
Shigeru Mizuki is no stranger to the supernatural and its portents. Kitaro and Tono Monogatari reimagined the obscure folktales of his youth, bringing them to life with whimsy. Mizuki the cartoonist certainly left an indelible mark on comics as world literature. Mizuki the fine artist, on the other hand, rounds out the full scope of his fascination with the otherworldly and fantastic, bringing these worlds to life in robust color.
Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki showcases his expertise of not only folklore, but celebrates him as a naturalist. Elements of Mizuki’s lush compositions—flora, fauna, and everything in between—showcase his mastery of form and love for nature. These popular renderings of a disappearing, rural Japan are his contribution to the preservation of a cultural heritage that would have otherwise been forgotten. The grotesque realism central to his body of work is offset by the ingenuity of his fancy for the macabre. Pieces in this deluxe, full-color edition call to mind the playful pop-sensibility of Maurice Sendak informed by the technical prowess of traditionalists like Dürer and Doré. And like any other Mizuki classic, each oeuvre is a unique snapshot of spirit, human or otherwise, in constant transition.
Yokai: The Art of Shigeru Mizuki includes supplementary writing by acclaimed Mizuki scholar and translator Zack Davisson.

Shirato Sanpei - The Legend of Kamui 1 - January 14, 2025 (Total 10 Volumes)

The iconic series that launched the alt-manga bible GARO becomes available in English for the very first time.
At long last, manga titan Shirato Sanpei’s groundbreaking epic makes its way into English. Celebrated as a watershed of both the Japanese counterculture and dramatic, longform storytelling in manga, The Legend of Kamui serves up clashing swords and class struggle to create a timeless political allegory set in feudal Japan. This ten-volume series is a must-have for fans of samurai and ninja manga and anime, and of other giants of postwar manga like Tezuka Osamu, Mizuki Shigeru, Tsuge Yoshiharu, and Lone Wolf and Cub’s Kojima Goseki.
It’s the 17th century in Japan. Child outcast Kamui lives on the fringes of a miserably stratified society. Fueled by pure grit, rage, and a dash of cunning, his only way out is to take up the mantle of ninja. Follow scrappy peasants, cold-blooded ninja, and warriors both disgraced and exalted as they navigate the unforgiving hardships of a violent yet hopeful age. With its vivid and critical attention to social injustice and environmental issues against a backdrop of heart-pounding action and romance, this multilayered gekiga drama not only redefined ninja and samurai fantasy, it also offers astonishing parallels with the modern day.
Originally serialized between 1964 and 1971 in the legendary alt-manga magazine GARO, The Legend of Kamui is translated by social historian and decorated academic Richard Rubinger.

2024.06.09 08:49 mrpooooopy Skin tag genital male

Skin tags on the genitals are benign, which means they are not cancerous. If you want them removed due to appearance or discomfort, it’s best left to a professional.
At-home treatment or removal of skin tags in the genital area is risky. This is because the skin is so sensitive. At-home removal could cause infection, pain, and scarring.
A medical professional can remove your skin tags with one of these options:5
Cryosurgery uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the growth. A small blister might form where the nitrogen was applied. Scarring is rare.
Excision uses a scalpel or surgical scissors for removal. You will receive a local anesthetic for this procedure. It may burn or sting for a moment.
Cauterization uses an electric current passing through a wire. This burns off the skin tag at the stem. The heat of the wire helps limit bleeding.
All three of these options are outpatient procedures. This means you can have them done in a medical office and leave afterward. You may be able to get multiple skin tags removed at once. Ask your healthcare provider about this in advance.

2024.06.09 08:44 Gizm0Guru Sonos Ace - Hard to Hate, Hard to Love (Review)

Sonos Ace - Hard to Hate, Hard to Love (Review)
I took the plunge and pre-ordered the Ace, and I’ve been putting it through its paces for the last couple of days. I’m pretty deep in the Sonos ecosystem, and I’m a big headphone collector, so I’m tossing in my thoughts here for those thinking about taking the plunge on these $450 cans.
TL:DR - the Aces come in at a high price point in the market at $450. At that price, these may be a tough sell for many. The overall sound is very good - but not definitively better than the category leaders in the market, many of which cost substantially less. Early/Gen1 bugs will leave some thinking that the product is half baked or leaves them out entirely, especially Android users. All that said, this is still a Sonos product, so there are enough things done well about the Ace that it could be a decent proposition - especially if you catch a sale and/or after upcoming software updates. Hard to hate, hard to love.
Now to give some context and get into the deeper review. As mentioned, I am pretty deep in the Sonos ecosystem because I’ve steadily added to my setups over the years. I started with a 5.1 system, Playbar + Sub + two Play 1s about 10 years ago (now in my kid’s playroom) and now I have Sonos in my whole home - another Arc-based 5.1 setup (media room), a Playbase 5.1 setup (living room), a Beam (bedroom), Move (outdoor patio) and a Roam (travel).
I am also a headphone collector and have 22 pairs, ranging from “consumer” stuff like the Ace, AirPods Pro/Max - and all the way up to high-end reference gear from the likes of Audeze, Sennheiser, Meze, Focal, etc. I listen to many types of music, from hip-hop to classical, and I also do quite a bit of gaming. I have a young kiddo so have the need to use headphones for TV viewing pretty often.
Starting with the overall design, comfort, control and included accessories - Sonos does a mostly solid job. The design isn’t overly striking in any way, but it is a well-refined “standard headphone” type of design with clean lines. The Aces are light while still feeling solidly built, have a smooth but appropriately firm sliding hinge for headband fit, have easily removable pads, and while they don’t completely collapse, they get compact enough to fit in the included zip-up hard shell carrying case.
The respectable carrying case isn’t the only included accessory. A USB-C cable is included for both charging and USB-C audio (no included wall charger), and a USB-C to 3.5mm cable is included as well for plugging into analog sources. The inclusion of these cables and capabilities gives the Aces a lot of general versatility and are good things at this price point.
The design lends itself to an overall very comfortable headphone. The band has a very soft cushion and connects to the cups in a way that distributes the weight very well. The cushions of the cups are a well-padded and very comfortable faux leather situation with a firm but not too imposing pressure on the head. These are easy to wear for hours without discomfort for me. I will note that while everything is fine for me, the cups are not particularly large, and the pads are angled, so people with large ears may find their ears touching the cups a bit.
The controls are also well designed. Sonos chose to avoid any type of touch controls with the Aces and has just three buttons - one for power and Bluetooth pairing, one for ANC/transparency/on-device voice assistant, and one for volume and track/audio source/phone call control. It reads more complicated than it is for the controls to become second nature. It is a very good overall control scheme. It’s not quite as good as the Digital Crown design of the AirPods Max, but I’d give it a strong second to that.
When it comes to hardware design and general ease of use, Sonos has always done well across its product range, and that continues here. Grade: A
Sound is one of the most subjective/difficult things to review, and I’m going to try and be as neutral as possible and use some good points of comparison. Overall, the Aces perform fairly well for the product category, and while they bring their own approach to the table, it is very much debatable whether what they bring in terms of sound is worth the fairly high $450 entry point versus $450 for the AirPods Max, $299 for the Sennheiser Momentum 4, $328 for the Sony WH-1000XM5 or $379 for the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra - all very mature and respectable market leaders with similar product features in this category. There are wireless headphones out there that are priced higher like the Focal Bathys ($799) or the Bowers and Wilkins Px8 ($529), though one could argue that those are catering to the luxury and/or audiophile market (all Amazon US prices as of this writing), where the sound expectations have a higher hurdle to overcome.
Let’s first talk about tonal balance. The general tuning of the Aces is very similar to all of the other products I mentioned above, which is a version of a “V-Shaped” tune; bass is boosted, and treble is boosted, creating what has become commonly known as a “fun” type of tuning that I call warm and sparkly. While all of the products I mentioned do this in some way, each does it slightly differently, resulting in a slightly different overall sound presentation, the Aces are no exception. Let’s dive in.
The bass on the Aces is very noticeably boosted throughout the entire band, and the biggest boost is in the sub-bass region. This means the Aces bring slam, boom and rumble to the listen. It could be argued that these get into bass head territory, and I believe those that like bass would be happy with the Aces in that department. While the bass is certainly very prominent, it is not overly loose and still maintains a decent level of control. It is a thick but fairly clean bass. It hits thicker than the AirPods Max but less so than the Momentums and XM5s. If you like to feel those big explosions and soundtrack moments in your TV viewing and gaming, the Aces will fit the bill, as the depth the bass can reach is impressive. The downside to the bass tuning is that since the entire bass band is boosted, if you are listening to a track that has a lot of action in the bass region, it can be overwhelming and lack detail. It can also lead to some bleed into the lower midrange on certain tracks.
It is the midrange on the Aces that surprised me the most, though when I think about how Sonos likely dedicated as much thought to how these sound for TV as to how they sound for music, it makes sense. In a usual “V-shaped” tuning, it is the midrange that is the least present or gets a bit left out of the mix. This often results in vocals and many common core instruments and pieces of the mix somewhat veiled, and is the reason many audiophiles don’t like the V-shaped tuning. The Aces mostly avoid this. The midrange balance is pretty on-target with the exception of a bit of a dip in the upper mids. This means that you get a very full-bodied core sound when listening to the Aces, and that’s a very good thing. Male vocals are very often put on full display because of the added warmth of the bass boost. Female vocals can sometimes take a bit of a back seat, along with instruments like guitar, as a result of the dip in the upper mids, but to notice either of these, you’d really have to be a focused listener (more on why later). The story of the midrange is that it’s better executed than many in the category. This translates well to TV/gaming as well, as dialogue is typically easy to make out, even when there’s lots of other action going on.
The treble on the Ace, as mentioned, is definitely boosted, but in a targeted way that overall, works. I mentioned that the upper midrange where female vocals and some higher instruments live is a bit de-emphasized. Well, the treble is boosted in the “sparkle” region, where sounds like symbols reside - as well as the “s” and “t” sounds in vocals. This boost makes details shine a bit more, and it also hides the under-emphasis of the upper midrange a bit because it still pulls forward the sparkle of all vocals. This upper midrange and treble boost combination is also seen in some well-regarded higher end headphones from the likes of Sennheiser and Meze Audio, just to name a few, so kudos to Sonos for pretty solid execution on the treble. The downside to boosting this region is that some people’s ears are sensitive to this frequency range, and can find sounds like snare drums, loud symbols and the like in this region to be grating to listen to for long periods of time. I don’t find the boost to be extreme, but it is there, so those that are treble-sensitive, just something to note.
This is a good point to make note that this has all been related to the default tonal balance of the Aces right out of the box. Connecting to the Sonos app does allow you to adjust the frequency response - though it is a very basic EQ just like other Sonos products - a simple treble/bass slider. Most of the options at this price point offer greater level of control with a at least a 3-5 band EQ, but it’s better than nothing.
Last in the sound department is a bit about the staging and technical performance. Again, the Aces do what they do fairly well for the category, but whether what they do is definitively better than their peers is debatable. The sound that comes from the Aces is crisp and clear, and one of the most immediately noticeable aspects of the presentation is the good horizontal spread of the pieces of the mix - everything is placed very well with pretty good separation. The sound stage isn’t overly wide by any means, and we aren’t talking about a 3D/holographic sound stage (unless you’re using Dolby Atmos, which I’ll come back to), but the sound does indeed go ear-to-ear horizontally. Even so, the focus of the Aces is always front and center. The stage is very center-focused and intimate, with the edges of the left and right channel wrapping around to the ears. It is a pretty in your face presentation that works well. The center position also has a small but distinct depth and separation from the mix, which is impressive for a wireless headphone (I had to wonder if the fact that the inside of the pads of the Aces are angled contributes to this). The fact that the stage is so center-focused also keeps the vocals and heart of the mix emphasized, and this pairs well with its midrange tuning. This presentation also is another testament to being well-designed for both music and TV listening.
I am not always a fan of Dolby Atmos for headphones, as what the technology can do is often overhyped, but the Aces do handle Atmos mixed sources (or multichannel sources when using TV Swap) very well. It essentially makes the sound stage a bit bigger, along with more precise positioning of the pieces of the mix. I find it best for video content and hit or miss for music.
The overall sound package that the Aces deliver is solid, well-executed, V-shaped listen. The sound is warm, crisp, clean, dynamic/lively and is presented very well, in a way that will work for many genres of music, TV and gaming. The aces definitely deserve to be in the conversation among the market leaders, but each of these market leaders also have strong overall presentations that are arguably just as good, if not better - and allow for a bit more control with more EQ personalization options. The Ace’s premium price relative to this competition has to be taken into consideration as a point of comparison in evaluating overall sound. Grade: B+ / A-
I realize that when evaluating a pair of wireless headphones nowadays, the technology feature set is a big factor as well, and that’s where things get even more interesting for the Aces. This is because depending on your particular Sonos setup, mobile device setup, and general home listening setup, the technological features of the Aces are various levels of either lacking or unfinished.
Let’s start with the good. Regardless of the device you’re using to connect, you get to experience the active noise cancellation and transparency modes of the Aces, and both are very good. The noice cancelling mode isn’t quite as good as Bose, and the transparency mode isn’t quite as good as Apple, but both are respectable compared to anything else, a good showing. You can also enable head tracking in the Sonos app when connected to any device audio via Bluetooth, which for Android users may be an added convenience, depending on your device (for Apple users, this is a feature built in option at the system level between any iOS device and AirPods). You also get a fairly good mix of codec support, including some lossless options if your device supports it.
Now, the not so good. When Sonos announced the Aces, the company very accurately talked about how headphones were one of the most requested products of the community, and everyone in this sub can probably attest to that. But what has been released, at this point in time especially, IMO misses the mark by not doing the we want the headphones to do most - connect seamlessly to our larger Sonos systems, and on top of this, it highlights the challenge of forced obsolescence when dealing with home theater speakers and advanced technology in the same package.
The best way to illustrate this is to state plainly that the Aces are first and foremost Bluetooth headphones. They connect to your Sonos system indirectly via the app on your Bluetooth device, not directly to the system itself via WiFi (mostly). This means a few things. If you’re envisioning using the Sonos app as a hub main hub for navigating your music library across sources and handing it off between your Sonos speakers and headphones, that’s not in the cards with the Ace (ha). As a matter of fact, you can only use the Sonos app to play and pause media playing on the Ace, not select and navigate.
If your goal is using the Aces to listen to your TV, it can be done via a feature called TV Swap, but the situation isn’t exactly pretty for a lot of people. You can press a button on the Aces or within the Sonos app to trigger a direct WiFi connection between a TV-connected Sonos speaker, but at launch and of this writing, it only works on the top-of-the-line Sonos Arc soundbar. This support is coming via software update to the Beam and Ray at an unannounced date. This means that for folks like me that have been building a Sonos ecosystem for years, arguably the most loyal and valuable customers of Sonos (and the ones requesting this product for years), the usefulness of the Aces may be substantially reduced. Out of the four rooms that have Sonos sound bars in my home, again, all purchased within the last ten years or less, only two will ever work with the Aces. My Playbase and Playbar are forever excluded, and if you’re using something like the Sonos Amp to connect a turntable or other device to your Sonos system, you’re also out of luck. If you are an Android user, the picture is even uglier, as the TV Swap feature doesn’t work AT ALL, meaning that until an update arrives, also at an as yet unannounced date, the Aces are essentially a regular pair of Bluetooth headphones for Android users.
For me, this is the most disappointing thing about the Aces. Unless you are a fairly recent inductee to the Sonos ecosystem, the Aces probably are really more general Bluetooth headphones that can connect to a Sonos speakeTV than Sonos headphones that also connect to Bluetooth devices. This is in a world where there are certainly other options for connecting headphones to your TV’s audio. Many smart TV’s and set top boxes now offer a direct Bluetooth connection, and if you have an Apple TV, using AirPods via AirPlay is a much more seamless experience. All of these things, combined with the recent revamp of the Sonos app that took away features and left many unhappy in the name of updating the app for future products (including the Ace), should make you think twice about if the Aces are the best way to get TV audio via headphones for you and your setup - and about the longevity of your particular Sonos setup in general. I realize there are technical challenges that make better Sonos system integration a challenge, and that for some, the issue about older products isn’t an issue at all, but it is worth bringing to light for those making a long-term purchase decision.
The second most disappointing thing about the launch of the Aces is the continued trend of companies releasing products at full price that are essentially unfinished. I already discussed that for Android users at launch, there is no TV Swap at all, so these are effectively just regular Bluetooth headphones with no Sonos system integration at all. I also touched on the fact that TV swap support for the Beam and Ray is missing for all platforms. There is also a very cool-sounding form of TruePlay that Sonos is calling TrueTune. This will calibrate the room, so that when using TV Swap to listen to audio, you’ll get an even more “immersive” listening experience that takes Spatial Audio and head tracking to the next level by trying to actually mirror the acoustics of the room as if you had no headphones on at all. I can’t report on that because, you guessed it…the feature is coming at a yet unannounced date. On top of this, there are bugs out of the gate. Sometimes my Aces don’t show up in the Sonos app, and TV Swap sometimes doesn’t trigger or glitches out.
All of this makes judging the technological features of the Aces difficult. On the side of being Bluetooth headphones - the ANC, connection possibilities/versatility, multi-device connection, head tracking/spatial audio support, and battery life, the Aces are a strong showing. On the Sonos side, your experience will be highly dependent on your current Sonos setup, source setup, how you like to navigate your music library, your level of patience to receive updates, and your trust/level of care for when/if Sonos will release an update that breaks something between your Aces and your existing setup or releases a new speaker that doesn’t work with the Aces. These are all considerations that again make the $450 asking price seem steep when there are other options in the market with equal or greater capabilities for a substantially lesser price. Grade: C-
Overall, I view the Aces as a solid pair of Bluetooth headphones, and as Bluetooth headphones for day-to-day needs, they are worth considering, though arguably not the best value in terms of overall sound quality and features. The AirPods Max, Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless, Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra all bring comparatively good sound and feature sets at the same or a substantially lower price. Whether that premium is worth it because of the Sonos interplay, well, your mileage may vary, depending on your setup. They have the potential to be pretty great for some, while at the same time being annoying for some - hard to hate, hard to love. I hope this review was helpful for those taking a look at these or building a Sonos ecosystem in general. Happy listening!

Recently, I had the chance to try out the Guard Dog LIGHTSAFER Stun Gun w/ Tac Light. This handy device is perfect for those who want to feel secure in their day-to-day life. With its concealed high voltage stun capability, I was able to immobilize an aggressor before they could get too close. The powerful bolt was not only intimidating, but also effective in making them retreat.
The stun gun's 400-lumen flashlight comes in handy in a variety of situations, whether you're walking home late at night or just taking a shortcut through a dark alley. Additionally, the battery life indicator was a real lifesaver, as it allowed me to keep track of when the device needed recharge. The stun gun's shockproof anti-roll body, made of type III aircraft-grade aluminum, gives it the durability it needs to endure any tough situation. Overall, the Guard Dog LIGHTSAFER Stun Gun w/ Tac Light has proved to be a reliable and effective device for anyone seeking self-defense tools.

🔗1 Million Volt Stun Gun & Flashlight

As someone who has tried the Zap Light Extreme 1mil Blk Stun Gun/Flashlight, I can say it's a powerful and versatile tool for personal protection. The 6 Ultra-sharp Spike Electrodes offer extra protection and can penetrate clothes, helping you to ward off potential attackers. The built-in high-endurance Ni-MH rechargeable battery ensures the product is always ready when you need it, while the ultra-bright LED bulb shines for an impressive 5 hours per charge.
I loved the convenience of the USB wall charger, USB car charger, carry case, and wrist strap that came with it, making it easy to carry and store. The only downside I encountered was the flimsy belt clip that sometimes made it difficult to secure the stun gun in my pocket. Overall, the Zap Light Extreme is a reliable and intimidating tool for self-defense and personal safety.

🔗2 Million Volt Non-Lethal Taser for Personal Protection

https://preview.redd.it/m0wwmha4rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31b3db3b7a71d299cccfdb3d47aa7d23e3c9ad50
I recently received the PS Zap Enforcer 2 Mil Blk Zapen and couldn't wait to try it out. With its 2 million-volt stun gun feature, I felt it would be my new best friend in ensuring my safety during my evening walks. However, one thing I noticed was the size - it felt a bit too large for my hands, particularly for someone like me who is only 5'3.
Using this product, I found the flashlight to be extremely useful. The bright beam made it easy to navigate through the pitch-black nights, while the stun gun function made me feel safe knowing I could defend myself if needed. The metal exterior and sturdy construction added to the product's reliability.
However, the charging issue proved to be a bit of a pain. After using it for a few days, the battery seemed to drain quickly, and despite being warned about this, I still found myself struggling to keep it powered throughout the day. Another minor issue was the lack of a smaller or more portable option, as the size could be a bit unwieldy for some people.
Overall, the PS Zap Enforcer 2 Mil Blk Zapen has its pros and cons, but it's definitely a useful tool for those seeking a bit of extra security in their daily lives. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a stun gun flashlight, but just remember to keep an eye on the battery life to avoid being left in the dark.

🔗Portable Stun Gun Flashlight with Wrist Strap and Charging Cable

https://preview.redd.it/kycdf5x4rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2529f342e1dd0771e70140a57e3cedd846f0e62
When I first got my hands on the Taser StrikeLight 2 Kit White, I was immediately impressed by its sleek design. It looked like a powerful tool meant for serious moments, but at the same time, it was surprisingly comfortable to carry around with me.
The 700-lumen high beam setting was simply mind-blowing. I found myself reaching for it whenever I needed a good, bright light in a dark situation. The low beam and red mode were also incredibly useful, providing just the right amount of light for specific scenarios.
I have to admit, I was more than a little intimidated by the thought of using this device as a stun gun. But, after putting it to the test, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective it was at close range. Its stun gun capabilities provided a sense of security and safety that I hadn't quite expected.
But, nothing's perfect. Although the device itself is relatively light, I noticed that the charging cable seemed to be a bit of an afterthought. It was a little flimsy, and I had to be careful not to tear it by accident.
Overall, the Taser StrikeLight 2 Kit White has been a reliable companion in my everyday life. It's saved me from a few nervous encounters, and the built-in stun gun capabilities give me a sense of security that I never knew I needed. While there are a few cons to consider, the pros outweigh them by far.

🔗Compact and Cute Taser with Flashlight for Small Animals

https://preview.redd.it/jtnkw585rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06d2129366c59ba8f0c217c498007a745e59b207
The Stun Master Lil Guy 12,000,000 Volts Animal Print stun gun was more than just a cute taser. It offered a powerful self-defense solution for people on the go. I tried it one day when a group of strangers cornered me in a dark alley. While I was initially skeptical of its real efficacy, I decided to give it a try. Pressing the shock button, the Lil Guy thrashed 1,200,000 volts of power through the metal probes, effectively scaring off my assailants.
I appreciated its compact size, as it easily fit in my purse, and the bright LED flashlight built into it was quite useful at night. However, the nylon case the gun came with wasn't the most secure – I'd recommend investing in a sturdier case for added protection.
The Lil Guy had a safety switch; in the down position, it was off, in the middle position it was a super bright LED flashlight, and in the up position, it needed a firm trigger press before it unleashed 12,000,000 volts. Despite the quirky design, this stun gun served its purpose, providing a sense of security in moments of danger.

🔗Powerful 320-Lumen LED Flashlight with Taser for Personal Security

https://preview.redd.it/mwsj29o5rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76fbf1f8097dd8683beef3908318b83d4cd01e7d
Guard Dog Security Diablo II 320-Lumen 3 Modes LED Rechargeable Flashlight has been an integral part of my daily life. This multi-functional device offers both a flashlight and a concealed stun gun, perfect for those who want to feel secure without carrying around a visible stun gun. The 320-lumen light can be seen over 500 yards away, acting as a powerful deterrent for unwanted attackers.
The concealed stun technology is the highlight of this device, delivering a powerful and intimidating shock around the top layer, all while remaining inconspicuous. This self-defense tool has been popular, especially among law enforcement, yet it's now available for the general public.
Diablo II is crafted with a shockproof body, built from an aircraft-grade type III aluminum, providing both durability and protection. The emergency glass beaker is a convenient added feature. The product arrives with a premium leather holster, making it easy to carry on your person.
However, the cons of this product are the non-replaceable battery and the lack of an additional belt clip. The need to replace the battery can be inconvenient for some users. Also, a more user-friendly belt clip would have been a great addition. Despite these limitations, the Guard Dog Diablo II remains an effective choice for those who want a versatile and reliable security solution on their daily endeavors.

🔗Smart Self-Defense Light with Taser Function

https://preview.redd.it/f2admc76rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d6a997c484b503fc2d45a99dfe9ae4c3d2e87f0
I've been using the Smith & Wesson Self-Defense Light lately, and it's become quite a reliable tool in my daily life. The light output is impressive with its 35 lumens, making it bright and compact. One feature that stands out is the hardened glass breaker for emergency situations.
However, I also noticed that the metal construction can be a bit heavy and the matte finish might be prone to fingerprints. Overall, it's a solid choice for those looking for both a flashlight and a self-defense option.

Buyer's Guide

A flashlight with a built-in taser is a versatile self-defense tool designed to provide both bright light and a shocking deterrent in one compact package. These types of flashlights are becoming increasingly popular among individuals wishing to protect themselves and their surroundings.

https://preview.redd.it/xokjxak6rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44ad25bc63c395f78c855e33db4b961808e65efa

Key Features to Consider

  • Brightness: The flashlight should have a high-intensity LED to provide optimum illumination in low-light situations. Consider a range of beam patterns, including spot and flood modes to suit different needs.
  • Battery Life: Look for flashlights with rechargeable batteries or long-lasting alkaline cells to ensure the device lasts when you need it most.
  • Taser Voltage: The taser should have a strong enough electricity discharge to disable an attacker effectively and safely.
  • Size and Weight: The flashlight should be portable and easy to carry, without sacrificing functionality.
  • Construction: The device should be sturdy and have an IP-rated waterproof feature for added safety and durability.

Important Considerations

  • Legal Restrictions: Make sure you are aware of the local, state, and federal regulations governing the use of a taser-equipped flashlight.
  • Safety Precautions: Always follow safety guidelines and practice using the device to ensure you can use it effectively when needed.
  • Budget: Determine how much you are willing to spend on a flashlight with a taser to find the right balance between cost and performance.
  • Reviews and Ratings: Scan customer reviews and ratings to gather insights on the flashlight's effectiveness and build quality.

General Advice

Remember that a flashlight with a taser is not a substitute for formal self-defense training or for relying on others for support and safety. Always use these tools responsibly and only in situations where you feel genuinely threatened.

What is a Flashlight With Taser?

A Flashlight With Taser is a multipurpose self-defense tool that combines the functionality of a bright flashlight and a non-lethal taser for personal safety.

What is the purpose of a Taser on a Flashlight?

The integration of a Taser on a Flashlight serves to provide protection in the event of a potential danger or attack. The bright flashlight can be used to disorient an attacker, while the Taser can be used to incapacitate them, giving you time to escape or seek help.

https://preview.redd.it/78ak65o7rh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=160835c80b8511f003ea0e716c8ee8b807f24a82

How does a Flashlight With Taser work?

The flashlight can be used to emit a bright light to blind an attacker and the Taser can be used to create a high-voltage, non-lethal electrical discharge to incapacitate them. The Taser is typically activated by pressing a button and aiming it at the attacker. Some models may require a direct contact with the target for the Taser to be effective.

Are Flashlight With Tasers legal to own?

The legality of owning a Flashlight With Taser varies by location, as it depends on the local laws and regulations. Some areas may classify it as a non-lethal self-defense weapon, while others may consider it a prohibited weapon. It is essential to research and check local laws in your area before purchasing or owning a Flashlight With Taser.

How effective are Flashlight With Tasers in self-defense?

The effectiveness of a Flashlight With Taser in self-defense situations can depend on various factors such as the distance from the attacker, the angle of the strike, and the target's body sensitivity. In general, the Taser has a high success rate in incapacitating an attacker and providing time for the user to escape or seek help. However, it is crucial to remember that self-defense tools should be used as a last resort and only to protect oneself.

What safety features should be present on a Flashlight With Taser?

  • A safety switch to prevent accidental discharge of the Taser.
  • Interlock features between the flashlight and Taser to prevent them from being used separately.
  • A built-in safety mechanism that renders the Taser ineffective if the user tries to use it on someone already incapacitated.

What is the lifespan of a Flashlight With Taser's Taser?

The Taser component in a Flashlight With Taser typically has a lifespan of around 50,000 to 100,000 shots. However, this may vary depending on the model and usage patterns. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for the proper storage, maintenance, and use of the Taser component.

How should I maintain and store my Flashlight With Taser?

Always store the Flashlight With Taser in a dry place and away from temperature extremes. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance to ensure that the Taser component remains effective and functional. Regularly check the safety features and ensure that they are working properly.

2024.06.09 08:22 twisted-elephant Making friends post narc relationship

Complex history but short of it Narc spouse for 13 yrs relationship 25 yrs off and on, with 4 kids (oldest 22 and youngest 12) all with the same narcissist. I've been delicately navigating a separation. Finally convinced him to move out 8 months ago. I took all the blame, it's a me problem, not you. Been playing very nice, while he finds reasons to linger around the house that he no longer lives in and he continues to criticize me and the kids. Nothing will ever meet his unrealistic and uncommunicated expectations.. I continue to take and accept blame for everything and place the fault on me just to keep some sort of peace. I've isolated myself from family and friends over the years. I no longer have contact with my family and all friendships both new and long term have been abandoned because of the rollercoaster narc relationship. I was always so flaky and could never commit to plans with friends because of his mood and last minute cancellations all the time, left me with no credibility with the relationships/friendships I tried to create. Plus friendships were a problem unless he picked them. I was blind to the reality of it all and thought there was something wrong with me for so long. Now that we are going on 8 months separated, I'm not yet in the clear, but I'm trying hard to get there. Ive been seeing a therapist and working hard on myself. Here's my dilemma, I want to figure out how to make friendsb again. I know I'm still traumatized by this long rollercoaster mess of a relationship, and people don't want drama in their lives. So where does one start to meet people and make friends after all of this and given the trauma sensitivity I have? I'm late 40s(f) with 4 children (3 living at home), no hobbies other than my kids and work. I don't know where to start and how to rebuild a life for myself. Hoping people in this group can share their experiences and hope that there's is a life after this mess.

2024.06.09 07:48 UnicornColorbook Gabapentin neuropathy or pain sensibilization?

I've been off Gabapentin for 3 weeks. I tapered pff over one week, and was on it for under 2 months for light sciatica in my left leg.
I stopped when I started having tendinopathy and bursitis in both sides of my hips that just wouldn't go away. It started a few weeks after I got on Gabapentin.
I found out it might be a rare side effect of Gabapentin. It was immensely painful, and I've had to do daily exercises to strengthen the tendons. All that to say that going back and taking small amounts of Gabapentin isn't an option for me.
I started with a week of diarrhea, dizziness, feeling my knees would dislocate, and a feeling of dread. I found some comfort reading old threads here and believed it would pass. I was able to do more and more, things were lighting up.
After 2 weeks something odd began to happen. I had this inner burning in my upper thighs. I ignored it. A few days after it began, a physio called me from a pain clinic æ, the one that wanted me on Gabapentin. She told me it was pain sensitization because I'd been in pain for so long, and it would probably never get much better. Thanks.
I go to an acupuncturist as I saw studies that it helps with chronic pain.
The day after, the burning spreads. Now, a week after, I've got burning, tingling, sudden small pains and needlestabs all over my body constantly, especially the lower part. I try to ignore it and use meditation, but I feel like I wake up and its worse and worse.
I try to be brave for my 7 month old baby and my family, but I'm so scared.
What is happening to me? Will it stop? Can Gabapentin do this? Can my brain heal again?
