Introduction
Someone reading this book may wonder what sort of audience is being targeted here. They may also be confused as to what the endgame is behind such a book. The aim of this book is to parallel the different religious & mystic traditions & connect them to the tropes that we find near death experiences propagate. They often are reconnecting us with what ancient texts have said but in the modern secular world where materialism is the norm we have become numb to the meanings & impact behind such text. These texts are often considered archaic & primitive. Unable to contribute much to the modern world they may only be useful in prayer chants.
Thus I aim here to revitalise the spirit of these traditions and connect them to what many call the modern day scriptures. The study of near death experiences, neuroscience, consciousness & other paranormal phenomena.
The endgame of the mystic is to connect, achieve union, knowledge and self growth. Thus by approaching all these texts and the various evolving thought that emerged from it, we can explore the parallels and connections that bridge the gap between traditions. The beauty of mysticism and perennial philosophy is the freedom it offers in interpretation.
This book doesn't focus on the question of whether scriptures are divinely inspired, man made tools written for sociological and political agendas or some sort of corrupted divinity. That discussion is a debate that will never end. Rather the focus here is on the possible wisdom & theological beliefs which parallel and mesh together well in forming a higher meaning & connection to the divine. Whether it be a higher power, an all pervading source or a metaphysical truth. You aren’t required to literally believe the divinity of these texts. A simple level of curiosity & intrigue is sufficient.
However one may contend that it is easy to parallel traditions when they are in harmony but when they differ they directly contradict rendering these connections meaningless and superficial. Therein lies the limitations of this book. Therefore the following concepts won’t be discussed in here. These are mainly :
The primary focus is in following a don't throw the baby out with the bathwater approach. Some may also contend that this book follows a shopping cart style of cherrypicking from texts and discarding beliefs from texts one subjectively finds inappropriate. To this I would simply say that the approach here is one of finding the parallels that align well together and acknowledging when a belief doesn't align well. Not necessarily a pick and choose system. An approach I would call the rational mystic.
The rational mystic is one who is simply open to what may be beyond their senses. They may be mystically inclined, fascinated and open to the plethora of supernatural ideas. However they will not blindly believe any and all beliefs. They will discern using rational faculties what of mysticism is most compatible with reality, what the data or evidence shows & what is more probable than not. I believe people of all beliefs or no beliefs can fit this definition. Whether you identify by a religion, as spiritual but not religious, non religious, atheist, deist or agnostic. Thus a skeptic or believer may able to gain an appreciation for these belief systems.
This book dives into the verses and parallels of ancient texts such as the Old Testament, Gospels, Quran, Hadith, Bhagwad Gita, Dhammapada, Tao Te Ching & Gathas of Zoroaster. Other older parallels such as from Vedic India, Ancient Egypt, Greece & Mesopotamia may be referenced.
Alongside that are the testimonies of NDEs and how they may parallel or differ to these texts. This book also attempts to provide commentary on major philosophical themes & elaborate on various exegesis, mystical traditions such as Kaballah, Sufism, Advaita Vedanta, Neoplatonism & Chinese thought. Since mysticism is ultimately about experience it relevant and useful to enhance these discussions by contrasts to various scientific ideas, philosophy & pop culture.
NDE Filter Methodology
One of the problems with ndes is the fact that they are subjective experiences which we cannot objectively verify or replicate. This makes them a weaker form of evidence compared to empirical studies which can replicate the results. These present a challenge. An individual nde may therefore be subject to embellishment, fabrications & delusions. Therefore in picking our choice of NDEs here we can only look at ndes as a whole in terms of statistical patterns that form. This is the methodology used in NDE literature by various academics including neuroscientists & philosophers researching the phenomenon.
To elaborate we therefore will discard testimonies that appear embellished with fantastical details. These fantastical details may also be subjective from person to person. Calling an otherworldly journey fantastical is simply irony. However in following the certain patterns that appear cross culturally in ndes it is much easier to identify reports that are considered fantastical. The following tropes appear the most across multiple nde studies.
There are of course other concepts that ndes reference which appear from time to time. These allow ndes to be flexible and not rigid experiences. After all no two nde experiences are the same. However using these motifs listed we can filter through unreliable ndes. These include
Finally one may say that the chapters of this book attempt to hint at the veracity of a religion & this book is a subtle attempt to proselytize that faith. I will reiterate that this book isnt trying to prove any specific religion. There may be subtle signs from one faith that fit better with the nde phenomenon than others. The following theories I would say explain these subtle signs. I leave it up to the reader to decide what they feel is the best explanation.
Whilst these theories may suggest a subtle spark of corresponding truths, generally NDEs dont explicitly point to any religion. Some say its simply the case that a Christian will see Jesus, a Muslim will see Allah, A Jew sees Yahweh & a Hindu sees Krishna. This of course is not entirely true. The portion of ndes that claim to see Jesus form a minority & interestingly they too dont point at specific doctrines. NDE experiencers may simply describe a sentient light they perceive to be God. This being doesnt tell anybody that I am Yahweh or Allah. Experiencers will say that religious texts fall short of describing this being. It is beyond what people are taught in religion.
Those who are familiar with NDE reports and studies will know that NDEs tend to be very religion agnostic and at best subtly imply a religious correlation but rarely do we find massive amounts of nde reports cross culturally presenting exclusivist dogmas such as follow holy book x or you will burn, believe Jesus died for your sin or you will burn for eternity. When an nde does present this its seen as a red flag since this doesn't occur with the majority of other ndes. The most we have are subtle religious correlations. However NDEs do present us with certain philosophical dilemmas when it comes to religion.
Some may ask what difference does it make that it doesnt point to a religion. if anything NDEs show us that God is far beyond the narrow confines of religions. It makes an immense difference when we factor the fact that religions have influenced entire cultures and civilisations in good and bad ways. Religions have been used to wage war, cause destruction, control the masses, brainwash, confuse and build fear into the human subconscious. And on the good side religions have given hope to the world that suffering isnt in vain, that life has meaning & that justice and ultimate happiness exists.
For alot of people the need to connect to the transcendental is insatiable and religion provides a whole structure of beliefs that one can organise themselves on. For some this is very restricting and enforces a cultural dogma on to everyone. They may prefer a shopping cart version of religion where they take whats good for them and discard what they disagree on. For others they prefer to deny all religious concepts as dogma and cultural beliefs. One could argue that humans need the cultural clothing of customs and traditions to keep their lives going, something which they can use to relate with to the divine. Not everyone can believe in an abstract deity that they cannot conceive of in the absence of symbols such as scriptures.
Religious texts provide at the very least a gateway to which one can relate through stories of heroes, morals and metaphors of the divine. Of course none of this leads us to whether said divine being has revealed these texts, whether they are inspired but corrupted by man or fully man made. These symbols act as aids in feeling like we have a piece of the divine soul with us thus giving comfort and hope. Thus whilst some have no need for religions, for the masses religions have immense value.
So why dont NDEs prove religion ?
There are no clear answers to this (unless somebody has an nde and asks whoever they speak with to tell them in specifics what religion is from God and whats not) all we can do is speculate. The ndes that do ask or do mention a scripture are so few that we cannot form any conclusion on this.
Do NDEs support materialism or not ?
While the aim of this book isnt to debate the afterlife or brain hypothesis, I will say that at the time of this being written, my view on ndes is to say that I consider them a plausible source of evidence towards consciousness surviving death & the afterlife existing. This view of mine may change in time towards either side. The following are some reasons I would argue for them being plausible.
1 Veridical NDEs : Numerous NDES report out of body experiences including witnessing of events in an environment when this should not be possible. More than 100+ veridical cases have been documented. Not to mention veridical cases from across different countries which further strengthens the case. We would have to be radically skeptical to consider all of these testimonies fabricated.
2 Lucid narrative : NDERS experience a highly lucid narrative that usually doesn't end in the middle or chaotically unlike dreams or hallucinations. Their ndes tend to be structured with a beginning, middle and end where they are either told, know or are sucked back into the body. This is quite a strange experience compared to delirium, delusions, hallucinations etc.
3 Deceased Relatives : Most NDES claim to see deceased relatives rather than alive people supporting the afterlife hypothesis. We should expect a mixed cocktail of alive & deceased people appearing in ndes if this was a case of dreams or hallucinations. The population that do claim to see a mixed group of alive and deceased is quite a small proportion of total ndes.
4 Intuitive Reality : NDERS are very convinced that they are in a hyper real reality that makes this world seem black and white, like a dream/illusion as some would say. They are intuitively convinced they are in something real the way we might be talking in person, as opposed to it being just a dream. In one study its believed that nders brain recollect their nde as if it's a real world memory.
5 ESP claims : NDERS may perceive no time at all, may experience a life review such that they can feel the feelings of others and recall memories long forgotten. They may feel like they intuitively know things without needing to learn. Some may report greater vision and detail than waking life, ability to hear thoughts, instantaneously appear, be in two places at once or pass through solid walls.
5 Religious Expectations : NDES often may contradict the beliefs of many Christians, Atheists and Muslims who have varying beliefs about the afterlife. Some may be surprised to experience the things they see & are particularly surprised at the ESP abilities as these are not predicted by religions. Particularly interesting are religious conservative ndes with more exclusivist beliefs who are surprised and end up becoming more pluralist and liberal.
6 Clinical Death Scenario : The best NDE studies focus on scenarios whereby the person undergoes cardiac arrest and thus clinical death. At this time a person has no heartbeat, no breathing, dilated pupils, no light reflex, no gag reflex and EEG reading of little to no brain activity. This is consistent with unconsciousness as no blood and oxygen can fully reach the brain. Furthermore the fact that most undergoing clinical death dont report any experiences means NDEs are odd occurrences & consciousness should not occur.
7 Transformation : NDERS often are transformed in their beliefs with less to no fear of death, detachment from the material, more interest in altruism and spirituality and are impacted by their NDE for decades, remembering it far more than a hallucination or dream. They see it as the most important experience of their life.
8 Double edged sword : The fact that not everyone has an nde may support the idea of nde being more than brain activity. After all if the nde simply was some evolutionary dying mechanism we would expect everybody to have one. This point could also support naturalistic hypothesis (See below)
However there is still uncertainty regarding the nde phenomenon and further data, & studies are required to build a case that is greater than just plausible. These are some opposing reasons to consider doubt in them valid
1 Embellishment : NDEs are unverifiable and therefore we cannot verify which ndes are authentic or which ndes are embellished over time with the nders own thoughts, interpretations or exaggerations. This makes it easier for fabrications and frauds to claim an nde experience.
2 Brain Activity : Since NDES happen during clinical death or unconscious states where a persons brain can be returned to living we cannot be sure that there isnt some deeper brain activity that causes an nde. We also cant be sure than an nde isnt happening in the window where cerebral blood flow hasnt ceased or in the window where CPR leads back to cerebral blood flow. EEG machines also have certain limitations such that they cannot detect deeper brain regions due to the skulls electrical resistance. EEG spikes may occur due to muscle twitches & electrical noise which can often make it harder to differentiate whether this is due to the NDE or not.
3 Cultural/Religious Contradictions : If we keep an open mind, its entirely possible that a Western nde could see Jesus, an Indian nde see Buddha or an Indian nde see Jesus & a Western nde see Buddha. It seems this can be reconciled by the idea that ndes are customized to fit what comforts people subconsciously. Japanese NDEs for example see a bridge/river symbolizing journey to another world, Westerners a portal/tunnel. Westerners relate best to Jesus, Easterners to other figures. However some ndes provide conflicting metaphysical views. This can be an issue with some ndes if nde 1 says they were told to keep reincarnating until they reach nirvana, nde 2 says something more fitting to abrahamic faith. nde 3 says hell doesnt exist and nde 4 says they saw hell realms.
4 Double edged Sword : This point can be argued for ndes (See above) but also against ndes. Only a small percentage 10-20% of those under cardiac arrest are said to have experienced an nde. This point leaves questions as to why aren't all people experiencing an nde. Should we not expect a larger proportion say more than half of people to experience an nde ? If there is a realm beyond the material should we not expect every person to experience an nde. A low proportion may mean that the nde is some sort of brain anomaly. We only have speculations as to why all dont get an nde.
5 Future Science : Current materialistic explanations may be inadequate to explain ndes but this doesnt mean that future understanding of the brain may not yield a new theory/explanation that explains it away. Thus it remains a potential argument.
All of these points are worthy discussions on their own and can be found in various other valuable books. The above points are simply a valuable framework by which the reader may be able to take away what they value out of this book. Everything written is simply my own research into the subject & I always advise people to take it with a grain of salt unless it makes rational sense to you & appeals to your intuition.
Diving into the depths
Spirituality & mysticism can be thought of as two sides of the same coin with philosophy the ring that runs the circumference of the coin. While spirituality deals with the human aspects such as soul, spirit, ego, morality & purpose, mysticism deals with the divine aspects of things such as essences, attributes, metaphors, realities, realms, entities, space, time, substances etc. We aim to dive into the following themes in this book.
The Divine Source : Everything relevant to defining the higher power & source of existence including essences & attributes.

Consciousness & Spirit : Everything relevant to the nature of consciousness, qualia, perceptions, the spirit & soul.
Reality : Everything relevant to the nature of perception, illusion, concepts, space, time, substances, modes, forms & realities.
Spirituality & Purpose : Everything relevant to the nature of human meaning, objectives, purpose & suffering.
Morality : Everything relevant to values, ideals, ethics & morals.
Knowledge & Truth : Everything relevant to the nature of seeking truth, seeking knowledge & attaining wisdom. These include concepts such as beliefs, truths, axioms, speculations, nature of inspirations & revelations.
Awakening & Dark night of Soul : Everything relevant to the nature of materialism, spiritual awakening, seeking inner peace, anxieties, depression, remorse, angst & layers of the psyche.
Divine Sorrow : Everything relevant to the nature of the eschatological souls corruption, redemption, purification, punishment, divine justice & mercy including modes & forms.
Divine Bliss : Everything relevant to the nature of the souls destiny, ultimate peace, happiness, bliss & divine love including modes & forms.

2024.05.16 21:15 NovelRace8314 Why "trad-wife" content triggers me, and why I'm glad it does

I'm sure many of you have come across "trad-wife" content at some point or another online. I've been fed this content more and more lately, which had me thinking about what this "trend" means for mothers and families, and what impact it has overall for the mothers who are still "in the trenches" today. Whether it's a trend you participate in, or one you roll your eyes at, I think for the most part, it garners an emotional response from women, especially mothers, in either a positive or negative light. I also want to make it clear that "trad-wives" and SAHM are NOT the same thing at all, and should not ever be used interchangeably. These are two completely different things. A SAHM is still a working independent woman whos job inside of the home to be viewed equally as important as any work outside of the home.
I fall under the category of someone who is triggered by "trad-wife" content and generally have a pretty negative, critical response every time I run into it. But today, as I came across a video of yet another "trad-wife" influencer, who was defending her lifestyle, and call to "traditional" ways, I decided to stop and actually take a minute and be honest with what emotion I was really feeling when I come across this content. It isn't actually rage, disappointment or fear, like I tell myself it is. It's jealousy.
The truth is, my first reaction is jealousy and a sense of inadequacy that feeds off of my deepest insecurities as a mother. Jealousy for the mothers that can stay at home all day with their children, who can clean, bake, garden and cook with their little ones at their side. And as someone who is a working mum, but not by choice, I feel jealous of the extra time these women can spend with their children during these short pre-school years. I feel inadequate because I secretly fear I am failing as a mother by choosing a double income, over the financial insecurity of a one-income household. Inadequate because my house is a mess and I'm burned out from work from a job I hate by the time I get home, that I worry my children aren't getting the best version of me.
After the initial emotional response of jealousy, my logical brain kicks in and reminds myself that this lifestyle they are showcasing isn't reality. Most SAHM's aren't baking sourdough on homesteads all day. They aren't showing the 3AM wakeups or the teething drama. This isn't an accurate representation of motherhood for 95% of us. This leads me to my next emotional response, which is to then to substitute jealousy for criticism. I begin to list all the ways their lifestyle is flawed, naive and unsustainable to give myself some false sense of superiority to these women who are essentially just cosplaying.
I'm sure this reaction isn't uncommon. I feel it's a natural response for people to substitute the emotion of jealousy with criticism to justify their own lifestyles and choices that feel attacked. You could argue that the "trad-wife" movement is just that--a way for some SAHM's who may feel the need to justify their lifestyle and choices of not be in the work force, when surrounded by a world that places outside work in higher esteem than domestic work.
However, I would like to clarify that just because I feel jealous when watching this content, doesn't mean I wish I was a "trad-wife". I find the entire concept to be just as toxic as the "hustle"/"girl boss" culture they are fighting against. Not to mention, a completely misinformed and myopic view of what a "traditional" wife or family looked/looks like throughout the world. The "traditional" wife they are cosplaying as is just ONE example of a historic "traditional" family and a woman/mothers role within one. Yes, women have always been charged with domestic duties and childrearing. The home has always been where women have traditionally been taught to focus on, however, women have also ALWAYS worked outside of the home too—either on farms, factories or kitchens (etc). And women have ALWAYS outsourced childrearing to either a nanny or governess (if wealthy) or they had their eldest kids stay home and look after the younger ones. Working mothers, and hired childcare are not new concepts to the female history.
But, I do see how this trend came about. It’s an allergic reaction to the extreme push for women to get out of the homes and into the workforce. To climb the corporate ladder while breastfeeding. To pity the girl with the college degree and spit up stains on her shirt at home with unused potential. To take “equal rights” so literally we act like a man’s life or parental journey is identical to our own. Ignoring our monthly hormonal fluctuations and pretend we're fine to sit through that 2 hour meeting while popping Midol. That we add more value to society as another cog in a machine sitting in a cubicle, then managing your home and family, because that's just "sitting at home" all day, right? And maternity leave is really such an inconvenience…
Looking at both extremes, I found it funny how both sides share the same core issues/beliefs which do nothing but hold mothers, and families on both ends of the spectrum back. This is what I found were the major issues in the perception of motherhood at both extremes, when I took a step back and away from my own biases as a working mother.
  1. We need to recognise that both lifestyles come with the enormous privilege many women don't have-- The ability to live off of one income is a privilege just like having enough money for childcare or family support is a privilege. For many, our family set up wasn’t a choice, it’s a necessity. The reasons to be or not to be a SAHM are not always a choice or preference. A lot of times these are hard decisions that include major sacrifices. Before you judge either lifestyle, acknowledge the privilege you might have in the CHOICE to follow either life path. A woman who HAS to work to keep her family fed, even if all she could afford were Poptarts for breakfast, is just as good of a mum as the one who made fresh sourdough that morning. The mum who has to go back to school shopping at the second hand store, and mend hand me downs to dress her kids on one income is just as good of a mum as the corporate baddie who bought her kids the trendy shoes their kid asked for. Both kids are fed, both kids are dressed, both kids are loved.
  2. No matter what they say, we all love our kids, and how they turnout does NOT come down to your choice to work in or outside the home -- At the end of the day, I don’t think kids of working mums turn out much differently than kids of SAHM. I think we all know personal examples of rotten kids or adults with both types of mothers. Neither dictates your relationship with your child. As kids get older, they naturally drift away from us. The truth is we may mess up in ways we didn’t even consider. Our kids may always blame us for being overbearing by not having a life outside of the home. Or resent us for never being around because of work. Bad/toxic mothers can be found both in the home or the work force. Just think back to how the adults in our lives talk about their mothers--sometimes it was "mum had 6 kids at home, but she somehow managed to keep us all fed and cared for", or "mum had to work a full day cleaning houses, but she'd always make sure we read a book together after work". All mothers make sacrifices, no matter what type of sacrifice it is. Our kids aren't going to love or resent us for our choices to work or stay at home, but how we show up for them. Don't underestimate our children's ability to recognise our sacrifices on either end.
  3. Full time domestic work and homemaking is a real full time job that hold just as much value as working outside of the home and should be treated and respected as such.-- Childcare is a full time job. Full time nanny's and daycares prove that. Homemaking is a full time job. We hire cleaners, interior designers and household staffs that prove it. Cooking, is a full time job. We hire chefs and nutritionists that prove it. So, when a woman is a SAHM does one (or more likely) all of the above jobs for her family, it’s given lesser value or consideration than someone who works outside the home? You hear “I like to get dinner ready and the house clean for my husband who worked all day he deserves to relax when he gets home”, as if you sat around watching tv all day? Just because you enjoy it, or it’s for your own benefit doesn’t make it any less of a real fulltime job. You deserve sick days and breaks throughout the day like any corporate job would...except you never actually get them. The person bringing in a paycheck doesn’t contribute a greater value to your family than you. And same goes for working mums—you already have one full time job, don’t discredit the work left at home as just “chores” that you additionally take on as “lesser value” expected tasks. If two people work outside of the home then two people need to be responsible for domestic work. These are full time jobs. Spouses cutting the grass and taking out the trash is not equivalent to cooking, childcare and cleaning. We need to stop ignoring the home in the overall picture of a healthy family life. We all need a safe place to live that is clean, we all need to eat nutritious food, and our children NEED someone to look after them. These things have a real invaluable place in society. As a working mum, I'm finding more and more how hard it is to bridge that gap, to manage two workplaces essentially, the home AND the outside work. All attention and focus goes to work outside of the home, but the home life doesn't just sustain itself. We are neglecting the importance of our domestic life in favour of the outside working life. This goes for both working mums and SAHM's. We need to stop ignoring that piece of the puzzle if we want to create the complete picture. As it stands now, most working mums cannot afford help in the home which is effecting our mental and physical health--SAHM's don't get any sort of financial nest eggs or assistance at basically working for free, which makes them more vulnerable to abuse.
  4. Men need to be included in the domestic work in a way that sets them up for success. You are doing your family or spouse more harm than good by taking it all on yourself. -- By not giving dads a real opportunity to be involved in domestic duties you are depriving them and the children the full depth of a parent child bond and perpetuating that domestic life isn’t as valuable as outside work, or that domestic work is strictly a "woman's" domain. If you are a SAHM, and your job is to care for the house and kids, you just worked a full 8 hour day, just like your spouse. Because you stayed at home all day, most likely the basic chores have been done (though, kids are wild and even things like unloading a dishwasher can't be tackled), and maybe dinner is cooking. That alone is taking so much off of your spouses plate. Every family situation is different, every work situation is different, however, both you and your spouse are entitled to decompress a little after a full day. Dads need to be incorporated into the childcare aspect at the very least when they come home. Maybe since you spent all day with the kids, your husband gives them a bath and puts them to bed. Or, if you are a dual income house, maybe you split the bedtime duties, giving you the chance to spend SOME time with your children, after being gone all day--and just "play time" alone isn't enough or fair. I think a big way we fall down in including men into the domestic responsibilities, is for the same reason working mothers are struggling. The workforce was never set up with women or mothers in mind, and homemaking was never set up with men in mind. Now, some people will use this as an excuse to perpetuate that it shows that "a woman's place is at home", but studies have shown that over and over again, that fathers who are more involved at home make happier, more successful children. Children gain an enormous value from having fathers be just as involved in their upbringing as the mothers. And, I argue that men also gain just as much value from this. My husband is an equal partner in childrearing, and I'm in awe to see how much he has completely flourished and grown in this role. The truth is, most of us don't find fulfillment in our jobs. It's a paycheck. But a lot of us do find fulfillment in parenting. But to my point, we aren't setting men up to be successful in these roles, because men don't always think or approach things the same way as women. How many times have we had arguments with our partners because they ignored a mess, or didn't clean/do something properly, or we had to "nag" them to follow up on a chore...I know I have. But then I decided to take a step back and change my perspective on the home and family, and look at it as almost a military or corporate environment. Women don't thrive on deadlines and assigned tasks. We are better able to multitask, switch gears. To be too hyperfocused on one thing doesn't work so well when you have so many jobs to tackle at once. But men seem to work better with structure and direction. I feel like women see the big picture, and can zoom in from there, but men need to break things into smaller tasks before they can see the bigger picture. When a man retorts with "I'm not a mind reader", they are being just as dismissive to your needs and views as you would be by saying "you should just know". The truth is we are different. We were raised different, our brains function differently...but, I've found my partner excels in the household if he is given clear directions and expectations within the household. If instead of viewing it as two separate worlds, work and home, I approach it as equal sectors of one unit. Like how accounting is just as valuable to a corporation as their sales team. We are all operating for one goal, and one greater good. If your partner works outside the home, and you stay at home, then you need to view yourself as the manager of the home and delegate accordingly. How can you help your partner in their work day, and how can they help you in yours? You are on the same team. If you both work outside of the home, then you both need to take equal responsibility for the domestic work. You are both managers of the home, how can you support each other? What does one person do better than the other? Being passive aggressive because your spouse doesn't naturally see what needs to be done like you do, doesn't help anyone. Your spouse becomes defensive, and never learns, and feels out of place in home where you have inserted yourself as manager instead of an equal partner.
  5. Other people’s choices don’t discredit yours no matter what they say. -- Everything seems to be a targeted attack these days. People can’t seem to live in a way that makes them happy without you feeling threatened by it. If a woman is happiest at home catering to their husbands whims, that has no effect on your choice to be a stay at home dad. One is not a threat to the other unless you begin to feel superior to another. That the way you choose to live your life is so superior you want to control the narrative and influence personal choices of others in your life by attacking someone else to lift yourself up. I can’t help but ask myself who is benefiting from staging us against each others? Definitely not the mothers. Lumping one group as “those people” keep us divided. Each side more extreme in their POV echoed by peers and targeted social media. We have been fed that it's an "us" versus "them" issue. That one side is pushing us back into the stone age, and undoing all the progress we have made in the feminist movement. The other side feels attacked for finding joy and value in living a life at home and as a mother, that society has stopped valuing their contribution...really, society as a whole hasn't changed much in the past 40 years. The workforce has more working mothers than ever before, but work culture and regulations have not changed to accommodate that. We have to change to accommodate them. SAHM's have always existed, but we have not elevated their status to show the equal contribution they have in our society. In the end, society is still just exploiting women. A capitalistic profit driven society benefits more from more people in the workforce. I think we are all angry at the same thing, a lack of choice and a lack of respect. Women fought hard to enter the workforce and gain independence and equal rights so that we could have the CHOICE of what our life would look like. But are choices are still being under attack. Being a SAHM or a working mum is no longer a choice for a lot of us. We are being goaded into believing one is more valuable than the other, and that's just not true. If you find peace and fulfillment at home, that doesn't make you any less educated or independent of a woman. And if you love your career and thrive in your work, that doesn't make you any less feminine (because apparently we can't be feminine and work anymore according to some...) or as good of a mother. We are humans and multifaceted and cannot and should not be defined by one singular role.
This ended up being some sort of weird feminist manifesto, which isn't want I intended, but I guess I had a lot to say on the subject. I suppose I'm just scared at how well social media has gotten at dividing us. Social media isn't inherently good or bad, it's a tool for connection, but now even mothers are being pitted against each other. We all know it takes a village to raise a family, but we've pitted the village against each other. We are too busy claiming we are "under attack" from our peers, when we're just puppets--they want us to feel "triggered", and I'm glad. Because now I'm triggered, but it's not at the "trad wife" who is harkening back to a world that never existed, but at the people who are instigating this. Who are filling women's heads with this nonsense, and trying to box up our "values" or what "femininity" means...what it means to be a woman and mother. Because being a woman and mother has meant a lot of different things throughout history. We control our own narratives. We need to stop insinuating that our way is the "right" way, or that society is faltering because women are no longer "feminine" or because women want to go back to staying at home. All of this is "right", all of this is "feminine". Being a woman can mean whatever you want it to mean, and being a mother just means loving your kids and doing your best everyday.
***NOTES: I know this was a very hetero/cis centric post that focused a lot of perceived gender norms that excludes the same-sex or trans families...even single mothers. It was written as a reaction to a "trad wife" trend that is extremely hetero/cis centric, so my reaction to it is from this perspective as a hetero/cis mother. However, I know these values and views totally effect all families no matter what they look like. So, I just wanted to put it out there that I see you, and would love to hear your voice on this as well.
Also, a lot of sweeping generalities in here as well. These are broad sweeping statements and generalisations based on societies general assumptions about genders and family life. Right, wrong or myopic, it's what we live in. My point in all this IS that every family and every person is unique, and that we can't keep functioning under the assumption that there is only one way or one family dynamic out there.

2024.05.16 21:14 FunGuitar4258 Green water issues

First time aquarium owner here... I 'm having issues recently with my tank water looking slightly green. I have been regularly checking all parameters and following my normal water changing schedule (20% twice a week) yet still seem to be having the same issue. I'm aware the spiderwood will release tannins which will cause the "black water" however it looks to be more green than brown. Any help would be appreciated. I can see my limnophilia have closed and have been turning the lights off when this happens. Could it be that the summer months are causing an algae bloom due to more sunlight hitting the tank every day? Any help would be appreciated to try get to the bottom of this Tank (60 litres) is stocked with 7 amanos 1 bamboo shrimp (which I was sold as an amano) 5 otocinclus 1 betta (kudos for spotting him lol) 12 neon tetras

2024.05.16 21:14 Fit_Ambassador2832 Questions I ask myself to find out it's just my fault.

How did xyz mobile expose my social and dl number in 2022 before I became xyz mobile customer?
Why is ABC mobile admitting the data breach that I told them they just had an attorney call me and gas light me?
Did the state think I'm the one that wanted my company to loose everything and I wanted to loose my veteran protections?
How do you steal a corporation from your spouse and blame him for giving up and then call them lazy for getting tired after all their efforts are being taken away?
If you whip a Mule and then walk behind him with a whip who's fault is it when you get kicked the jackasses?
My exes all hated me and they are trying to help me realized something and now that everyone else hates me I'm beginning to realize they will say I did this to myself and it's all my fault. Well there right anything that was done that didn't need to be done or that could have been done to actual help and does it even matter because I allowed it if I was trusting of someone I shouldn't have trust then the fault is mine for being a poor judge of charater so who's fault is the lies?
How do you listen to lies and continue to trust when you know you will be blamed either way?
Is it wrong to lie to a liar or is it wrong to lie after having been truthful because your are being lied to and of so where does it all lead?
Is it truly best to owned it and be honest and if it is then what do you do when you did own it and that actions is used to hold you down?
If being around supportive loved ones would have helped I think maybe isolating me was pretty hurtful but I the one to blame I sure I isolated myself as most men do so is that my fault?
If someone loves you and they are not involved in the effort to do something and you call them after months or years and they are mad at you for the thing you are doing how do they know and how are they mad and how are you supposed to believe anything they say?
If you marry someone and you love them but you also know they need a green card is it illegal? If they leave you immediately after getting the green card was it your fault?
What does anyone of this have to do with my problems now and why does the therapist always ask about my mother?
At what age is it appropriate to still spank your kids in the face and is that just a texas thing? Do we need better laws or less laws and fewer taxes?
Is there anyway to make people truly equal that doesn't involve taken away what they have?
If we are born equal but we all come into this world naked and afraid why does everyone save for their death?
When it's always your fault why do you care?
What is unconditional love if humans are conditional by nature are they capable of loving unconditionally and is unconditional love given unconditionally at the time it was given any less unconditional when it is taken away?
Can love be given or taken? If love is an act not an object why is it objectified and ransomed?
What is love?
Is it love?
Why are four letter words so evil?
Lazy shit hate love fear pain fuck fame fine dude cool turd sure
Maybe money power

Basin Uranium Stakes Uranium Project In The Great Divide Basin, Wyoming
VANCOUVER, B.C. CANADA – MAY 16, 2024 – BASIN URANIUM CORP. (CSE: NCLR) (CNSX: NCLR.CN) (“Basin Uranium” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce it has acquired the Great Divide Basin Uranium Project (the “Project” or “GDB”) located in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, USA. The Project, which was acquired through direct staking by the Company, is comprised of 104 unpatented mineral lode claims totaling approximately 1,880 acres located in south-central Wyoming and within the Great Divide Basin (Figure 1). The claims are located contiguous with Premier American Uranium’s Cyclone Project which hosts an exploration target ranging from 6.5 million short tons averaging 0.06% U3O8 (7.9 million lbs. U3O8) to 10.5 million short tons averaging 0.06% U3O8 (12.6 million lbs. U3O8)[1]. Wyoming is home to both the largest uranium reserves and top producing uranium state in US[2], with the Great Divide Basin representing the least exploited of Wyoming’s basins estimated to contain over 270 million pounds of uranium[3].
“The staking of the GDB property represents our continued expansion into the USA and second internally generated project in Wyoming. We continue to execute on acquiring and developing strategic assets located in prolific mining districts with extensive historical exploration” commented Mike Blady, CEO of Basin Uranium. “The GDB Project and surrounding area have played host to a plethora of explorers, starting with the U.S. government in the 1950’s and most recently Tournigan Energy Ltd. in the mid 2000’s. The well understood geology, historic exploration, and proximity to UR Energy’s Lost Creek ISR mine and processing facility add to the appeal and potential of GDB. Wyoming represents one of the premiere exploration and mining jurisdictions for uranium within the USA which provides for a clearly defined and expedient pathway for permitting and development.”
The Great Divide Basin (GDB) Project, Wyoming
The GDB Project is comprised of approximately 1,880 acres of contiguous claims (104 unpatented mineral lode claims) located south and west of Jeffrey City and north and west of Wamsutter, Wyoming. The Project adjoins Premier American Uranium’s Cyclone Project and is readily accessible by gravel and dirt roads maintained by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The Project has seen extensive historical drilling dating back to the 1970’s with many of the pads identifiable on the western half of the project. More recently, Tournigan Energy drilled a number of wells with grade-thickness or GT (grade U3O8 X thickness in feet) in excess of 0.25GT from a grid located about 500 – 1,000 feet to the southwest of the project, further highlighting the potential for economic grade uranium mineralization within the immediate vicinity.

2024.05.16 21:12 bumble_beez_ All moisturizers make my skin shiny

My face looks shiny whenever I use any moisturizer, but it’s too dry to not wear moisturizer. I have combo skin that is prone to acne breakouts from many products. Have finally found a moisturizer that my skin seems to be OK with (innisfree green tea), but my skin looks shiny with it on. I’ve tried every type of moisturizer from light to cream to gel…my skin looks shiny from all types. My skin reacts to most sunscreens (including mineral and Elta MD), so I limit my use of sunscreen on my face and wear hats.
Does anyone else have this shiny (but not necessarily oil) face problem when wearing moisturizer?

2024.05.16 21:12 abtasty Optimizing Revenue Beyond Conversion Rate

Optimizing Revenue Beyond Conversion Rate
When it comes to CRO, or Conversion Rate Optimization, it would be natural to assume that conversion is all that matters. At least, we can argue that conversion rate is at the heart of most experiments. However, the ultimate goal is to raise revenue, so why does the CRO world put so much emphasis on conversion rates?
In this article, we’ll shed some light on the reason why conversion rate is important and why it’s not just conversions that should be considered.

Why is conversion rate so important?

Let’s start off with the three technical reasons why CRO places such importance on conversion rates:
  1. Conversion is a generic term. It covers the fact that an e-commerce visitor becomes a customer by buying something, or simply the fact that this visitor went farther than just the homepage, or clicks on a product page, or adds this product to the cart. In that sense, it’s the Swiss Army Knife of CRO.
  2. Conversion statistics are far easier than other KPI statistics, and they’re the simplest from a maths point of view. In terms of measurement, it’s pretty straightforward: success or failure. This means off-the-shelf code or simple spreadsheet formulas can compute statistics indices for decision, like the chance to win or confidence intervals about the expected gain. This is not that easy for other metrics as we will see later with Average Order Value (AOV).
  3. Conversion analysis is also the simplest when it comes to decision-making. There’s (almost) no scenario where raising the number of conversions is a bad thing. Therefore, deciding whether or not to put a variation in production is an easy task when you know that the conversion rate will rise. The same can’t be said about the “multiple conversions” metric where, unlike the conversion rate metric that counts one conversion per visitor even if this visitor made 2 purchases, every conversion counts and so is often more complex to analyze. For example, the number of product pages seen by an e-commerce visitor is harder to interpret. A variation increasing this number could have several meanings: the catalog can be seen as more engaging or it could mean that visitors are struggling to find what they’re looking for.
Due to the aforementioned reasons, the conversion rate is the starting point of all CRO journeys. However, conversion rate on its own is not enough. It’s also important to pay attention to other factors other than conversions to optimize revenue.

Beyond conversion rate

Before we delve into a more complex analysis, we’ll take a look at some simpler metrics. This includes ones that are not directly linked to transactions such as “add to cart” or “viewed at least one product page”.
If it’s statistically assured to win, then it’s a good choice to put the variation into production, with one exception. If the variation is very costly, then you will need to dig deeper to ensure that the gains will cover the costs. This can occur, for example, if the variation holds a product recommender system that comes with its cost.
The bounce rate is also simple and straightforward in that the aim is to keep the figure down unlike the conversion rate. In this case, the only thing to be aware of is that you want to lower the bounce rate unlike the conversion rate. But the main idea is the same: if you change your homepage image and you see the bounce rate statistically drop, then it’s a good idea to put it in production.
We will now move onto a more complex metric, the transaction rate, which is directly linked to the revenue.
Let’s start with a scenario where the transaction rate goes up. You assume that you will get more transactions with the same traffic, so the only way it could be a bad thing is that you earn less in the end. This means your average cart value (AOV) has plummeted. The basic revenue formula shows it explicitly:
Total revenue = traffic \ transaction rate * AOV*
Since we consider traffic as an external factor, then the only way to have a higher total revenue is to have an increase in both transaction rate and AOV or have at least one of them increase while the other remains stable. This means we also need to check the AOV evolution, which is much more complicated.
On the surface, it looks simple: take the sum of all transactions and divide that by the number of transactions and you have the AOV. While the formula seems basic, the data isn’t. In this case, it’s not just either success or failure; it’s different values that can widely vary.
Below is a histogram of transaction values from a retail ecommerce website. The horizontal axis represents values (in €), the vertical axis is the proportion of transactions with this value. Here we can see that most values are spread between 0 and €200, with a peak at ~€50.
When it comes to CRO, or Conversion Rate Optimization, it would be natural to assume that conversion is all that matters. At least, we can argue that conversion rate is at the heart of most experiments. However, the ultimate goal is to raise revenue, so why does the CRO world put so much emphasis on conversion rates?

https://preview.redd.it/toe6tcg08u0d1.png?width=384&format=png&auto=webp&s=58a20aa968f43d8a485f9f4bd9b494f6bf538517
The right part of this curve shows a “long/fat tail”. Now let’s try to see how the difference within this kind of data is hard to spot. See the same graph below but with higher values, from €400 to €1000. You will also notice another histogram (in orange) of the same values but offset by €10.
https://preview.redd.it/cqgmh1628u0d1.png?width=387&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ca2cfc150dd989a868adcbc04ed435c6b330828
We see that the €10 offset which corresponds to a 10-unit shift to the right is hard to distinguish. And since it corresponds to the highest values this part has a huge influence when averaging samples. Due to the shape of this transaction value distribution, any measure of the average value is somewhat blurred, which makes it very difficult to have clear statistical indices. For this reason, changes in AOV need to be very drastic or measured over a huge dataset to be statistically asserted, making it difficult to use in CRO.
Another important feature is hidden even further on the right of the horizontal axis. Here’s another zoom on the same graph, with the horizontal axis ranging from €1000 to €4500. This time only one curve is shown.
https://preview.redd.it/egu5mtr38u0d1.png?width=404&format=png&auto=webp&s=f539ff85b05d5f93e07ac74b8577907747618b97
From the previous graph, we could have easily assumed that €1000 was the end, but it’s not. Even with a most common transaction value at €50, there are still some transactions above €1000, and even some over €3000. We call these extreme values.
As a result, whether these high values exist or not makes a big difference. Since these values exist but with some scarcity, they will not be evenly spread across a variation, which can artificially create difference when computing AOV. By artificially, we mean the difference comes from a small number of visitors and so doesn’t really count as “statistically significant”. Also, keep in mind that customer behavior will not be the same when buying for €50 as when making a purchase of more than €3000.
There’s not much to do about this except know it exists. One good thing though is to separate B2B and B2C visitors if you can, since B2C transaction values are statistically bigger and less frequent. Setting them apart will limit these problems.

What does this mean for AOV?

There are three important things to keep in mind when it comes to AOV:
  1. Don’t trust the basic AOV calculation; the difference you are seeing probably does not exist, and is quite often not even in the same observed direction! It’s only displayed to give an order of magnitude to interpret changes in conversion rates but shouldn’t be used to state a difference between variations’ AOV. That’s why we use a specific test, the Mann-Whitney U test, that’s adapted for this kind of data.
  2. You should only believe the statistical index on AOV, which is only valid to assess the direction of the difference between AOV, not its size. For example, you notice a +€5 AOV difference and the statistical index is 95%; this only means that you can be 95% sure that you will have an AOV gain, but not that it will be €5.
  3. Since transaction data is far more wild than conversion data, it will need stronger differences or bigger datasets to reach statistical significance. But since there are always fewer transactions than visitors, reaching significance on the conversion rate doesn’t imply being significant on AOV.
This means that a decision on a variation that has a conversion rate gain can still be complex because we rarely have a clear answer about the variation effect on the AOV.
This is yet another reason to have a clear experimentation protocol including an explicit hypothesis.
For example, if the test is about showing an alternate product page layout based on the hypothesis that visitors have trouble reading the product page, then the AOV should not be impacted. Afterwards, if the conversion rate rises, we can validate the winner if the AOV has no strong statistical downward trend. However, if the changes are in the product recommender system, which might have an impact on the AOV, then one should be more strict on measuring a statistical innocuity on the AOV before calling a winner. For example, the recommender might bias visitors toward cheaper products, boosting sales numbers but not the overall revenue.

The real driving force behind CRO

We’ve seen that the conversion rate is at the base of CRO practice because of its simplicity and versatility compared to all other KPIs. Nonetheless, this simplicity must not be taken for granted. It sometimes hides more complexity that needs to be understood in order to make profitable business decisions, which is why it’s a good idea to have expert resources during your CRO journey.
That’s why at AB Tasty, our philosophy is not only about providing top-notch software but also Customer Success accompaniment.

2024.05.16 21:09 hoggersbridge Engines of Arachnea: A Science Fantasy Epic (Chapter 21: The Quality of Mercy)

Link for all the chapters available for free here: Engines of Arachnea on Royal Road
Having said his piece, Rene had expected the woman to accept her role as a prisoner of the Fleet. But no sooner had he taken his knee of her back than she was at him again, rolling over and cursing as she tried to spit him on her claws. Training kicked in and Rene applied the wrestling component of his hand-to-hand combat course. He secured underhooks with his arms, locking them together with his hands and hugging her tight from behind. Zildiz bucked and twisted around in a futile attempt to make room for her blades, even managing to get one of her knees beneath her and push off the ground. Rene allowed her to gain her feet, cunningly using the opening to slip the loop of his encircling arms around her waist. Now in complete control of her center of gravity, Rene swung his leg out and arched his back, heaving her up and over like a sack of turnips in a textbook suplex. A fraction of a second before he smashed the top of her skull into the hard ground, he remembered that he was supposed to keep prisoners alive and preferably not in a vegetative state, and so he cushioned the fall with his own body, falling on his side to increase surface area and dissipate the force.
Zildiz was caught totally by surprise. Unlike Rene she had neglected to tuck in her chin before the moment of impact, a vital detail which was one of the first things a recruit was taught to do on the mats.
“Oof!” she said as all the breath slammed out of her by the throw. Rene felt her body go limp as her dazed senses tried to adjust to the violent change of orientation. He took advantage of this moment of weakness and looped his legs around her body, locking his ankles together to form a full body triangle. His left forearm punched up and took her neck in a rear naked choke, a suffocating vise formed by the insides of his elbow crushing her windpipe and carotid arteries.
“I warned you,” he told her. His choking hand grabbed the inside of his other elbow, right forearm sneaking behind her neck and under his armpit, tightening the garrote even further.
“Had enough?”
“Hrrnnkk…” Zildiz choked. She lifted an arm and slid back the blade until it was the length of a finger, deliberately giving Rene the universal gesture to go and fornicate with himself, before sheathing the claw entirely and aiming her fist at him over her shoulder.
Rene ducked as the blade shot out again, only just avoiding it going through his eye socket and into his brain. As it was, it only nicked his temple, sending warm lines of blood trickling down his visor. Rene hugged her even tighter, constricting the chokehold until he heard her breathing reduced to an agonized wheeze. He throttled her until she stopped moving, her struggles weakening until she went completely lax. Then he held the choke for exactly three seconds longer, counting carefully to avoid giving her lasting brain damage. He let go and was relieved to hear her snoring faintly. Gently rolling her onto her back so she didn’t suffocate in the dirt, Rene cast about for a means to secure his prisoner. He had only a few seconds before she regained consciousness. Quickly he cut some vines from the surrounding trees and knotted them into a crude rope. He flipped her back over again and tied her hands at the wrists and elbows. He had no illusions that it would hold her for long. He tied her wings together at their bases for good measure. She had two sets of them, but the larger pair was missing one of its partners that had been torn off at the socket to reveal a gaping wound. They were wondrously tough membranes considering how thin and flexible they were, as sturdy as ultrapod leather. Rene looked over his work and loosened it a bit so as not to cut off the circulation in her arms. It wasn’t bad for something done on the fly. Then again, he’d been playing this whole thing by ear ever since the ambush that had cut his unit to pieces. Ye gods, but that whole experience felt like a lifetime ago. He had not expected to ever use that component of his hand-to-hand training designed for fighting human opponents. Of course, he’d helped put down a fair share of civil unrest in his time, but even during the worst of the food riots in Mound Ulysses he’d never so much as given a person a light shove. The civilians knew better than to antagonize a battalion of the Fleet’s finest over something as routine and reoccurring as a government rationing in the face of crop failure.
He felt quite bad about having to roughhouse the woman, that is, until she sat up awake and glowered hatefully at him, coughing and retching.
“Don’t,” he pleaded with her in exasperation as she gave him the old stink eye, “I don’t want to fight you again.”
“Why?” she spat defiantly, “Afraid you’d lose?”
“Uh huh,” Rene grunted, amused and even a little impressed by her spunk. She couldn’t have weighed more than sixty kilos soaking wet and was at least half a foot shorter than him even with that exomorph of hers, but this woman was all fight and no quit. She would have to be, living on the surface world and facing these abominations day after day. Rene looked at the dismembered corpses of the black-furred devils and had a sudden jolt of inspiration. As Zildiz tested the strength of her restraints Rene went over to the monster he had chopped to bits and poked the misshapen hump on its back, which had excreted thick ribbons of silk at the moment of death. Feeling more than a little squeamish, Rene pulled on the threads of silk. He had only meant to collect two or three meters of the material, but more and more of the stuff kept unwinding out its glands like a handkerchief from a magician’s pocket. Eventually his hands became enmeshed in the horrid stuff and he had to struggle like the dickens to unstick himself and scrape it off onto a bush where it stuck like a lumpy hammock. Remembering how his enemy had plugged the stab wound in its gut, Rene snapped off a twig and curled it into the white mess like those vendors at the fairs did with candy cloud treats, ending up with a spool of silk. He applied it to the cut on his temple by winding it around his head like a bandage, and was gratified when it stopped the bleeding almost immediately. He heard the rustle of dead leaves and turned around to find Zildiz furtively attempting to sidle away from him.
“Don’t even try it,” he told her, “Or I’ll run you down and knock you senseless. I’m taking you back to civilization. The Fleet needs to know what it’s up against out here, and you’re a veritable trove of information.”
Zildiz squatted back down and stared at him, simmering with resentment. Rene shook his head and continued his work, moving on to the monster that had been the first to die at the woman’s hands. Cutting open its hump, Rene was rewarded with a dense lump of thread still packed inside its spinneret. He took another twig and spooled it in, then wrapped the bundle of silk in a large leaf.
A leg twitched of its own accord. Rene nearly dropped the bundle as he sprang back, sword upraised. The devil’s limbs began doing a tap dance and Rene relaxed a bit, recognizing it as the onset of rigor mortis. The side of its face was split open and hanging loosely by a strap of flesh. Struck by a nagging suspicion, Rene stooped down and peeled off the segments of its head, holding the edge of his sword against its neck to decapitate it in the event that it proved too lively for his liking.
The musculature and armor tore away just like it had with Zildiz’s helm, and for the second time that night he found himself staring into the face of another living human being. Only this time it was a man whose face was utterly disfigured, a perversion of the basic form. In the place of his lower jaw were fingerlike protrusions of gummy tissue and exposed nerve endings. His nose cartilage was likewise missing, leaving only a pair of holes dribbling with snot. The man blinked, and glassy eyes with almost no whites at their edges fixed Rene in their gaze.
“Kill…me…” the man whispered.
Rene began to shake uncontrollably, wiping a trembling hand across his mouth as he was forced to consider the carnage he’d just wrought in a new and horrifying light. These weren’t three dead monsters littering the jungle floor; these were three dead men, and some of them he had killed himself.
“Kill me!” the man begged him. He was young, barely Rene’s age, his smooth skin untroubled by the wrinkles of age and worry. He had clear brown pupils and dark, expressive brows. If it weren’t for all the rest of him, Rene might’ve mistaken him for a fresh-faced recruit at the academy, or a paperboy climbing up the terraced apartments of inner hive to deliver news of the Fleet’s latest victory.
On unsteady legs Rene staggered back to Zildiz’s side and away from the awful truth he had uncovered.
“Something the matter?” Zildiz asked in a gleeful tone, “Feeling a little worse for wear, are we?”
“Shut it,” Rene said distantly. He dragged Zildiz to her feet and began winding the silk around her wrists, layering them over thick and tying them off with a simple knot. He kept the vines on her for added insurance and told her to start walking.
“Where to?” she demanded.
“I’m not feeding you to my children, if that’s what you’re asking,” he muttered, “I don’t have any to begin with, and even if I did, I sure as hell wouldn’t raise them to be cannibals.”
Zildiz didn’t move, so Rene grabbed her and frog marched her away. He had no real destination in mind—he just had to get away from this place and the bodies he’d made. Zildiz rounded on Rene, saying:
“Aren’t you going to deal with him? I only severed his neural connection to paralyze his exomorph. He’s still very much alive.”
“No!” Rene yelled, “That’s not how I—how people do things. Almighty ancestors, is that so hard for you to grasp?”
“Yes,” Zildiz replied quite candidly.
“He’s a living, breathing human being. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but those are pretty rare on Arachnea and worth keeping around.”
“No. He is a Leaper. After extracting your gilt helix, he and his packmates would devoured you right then and there.”
“That’s why you saved me, isn’t it? So they couldn’t obtain this shiny helix thing?”
Zildiz ignored his question, continuing:
“If you leave him here, at best he will die of exposure. At worst, his tribe will come looking for him, and if they find him, they will run us down and kill us anyway.”
Rene bit his lip. She spoke the truth and they both knew it. But after all this world had already taken from him, there remained one thing which he refused to part with. And Rene knew that if he gave in now and took the expedient option—the sensible option—he would be surrendering it forever.
“Sorry,” he said finally, “That’s against the rules.”
He dragged Zildiz over to the Leaper and spoke to him, saying:
“I won’t kill you. I’m not about to eat you either, so you can stop begging for a quick death. As long as you tell me what I want to know, we’ll leave you here and go our separate ways. I might even patch your wounds if you’re cooperative. Does that strike you as a fair bargain?”
The Leaper met this pronouncement with a look of utter perplexity that mirrored the one on Zildiz’s face.
“I’ll take that silence as a yes,” Rene said impatiently, “You’ll begin by telling me your name.”
“Kryptusshh,” the Leaper said slowly, as if not daring to hope.
“Very good. Are there any more of your people out there, Kryptus?”
“Why sshhould I trusht you? I would only be dooming more of my kindred, and there issh no certainty you would not kill me afterwardssh.”
“It’s a chance you have to take,” Rene shrugged, “Either that, or I’ll let this woman do as she pleases with you. And just between you and me,” he said in a loud stage whisper, “She doesn’t seem all that fond of your sort.”
Zildiz and Kryptus locked eyes with each other. Rene could almost feel the waves of hatred coming off her as she bristled, every tendon in her body tensing expectantly. Kryptus must have seen something he didn’t like, for he looked away and said:
“I am a warrior of the Weeping Vipersh. We are roughly eleven hundred sshtrong. One tenth of that number are bravesshh like me.”
“He lies,” Zildiz said, baring her teeth in a snarl, “That is less than half their true strength. He does not count the adolescents and the old loom-mothers, who are the deadliest of their kind.”
“Three hundred, then, if they are consshidered,” Kryptman quickly admitted, “Your pardon, merciful one.”
“I’ll excuse your forgetfulness just this once,” Rene warned, “But your memory better not fail you again.”
He questioned the Leaper closely. Kryptus claimed that only he and his pack had seen the safety pod’s crash landing, and that they had told no one else as they wished to claim the great prize all for themselves. The Weeping Vipers were the largest tribe in the rainforest and were always looking for an advantage over their numerous and belligerent neighbors. Apparently Kryptus had hoped to gain a modicum of the Divine Engine’s power by extracting something called a ‘gilt helix’ from Rene’s blood.
“Jussht one sample would have shatishfied uss,” Kryptus swore, “Then we would have taken you back to the Loom alive.”
“I’m sure nothing would’ve pleased you better,” Rene said wryly, all too cognizant of Zildiz’s earlier assumption that he planned to feed her to the Fleet’s youth.
Rene learned from Kryptus that the Divine Engine had ignited a blazing wildfire that was swiftly spreading north and west. The tribes would likely have noticed it by now, and would all be sending braves in a joint effort to douse the flames. For some reason all the Leapers felt collectively responsible for the wellbeing of the region, and could not allow it to come to harm for fear of dire repercussions.
“Last question. Is anyone going to come looking for you?”
“Not till the morning.”
“Good!” said Zildiz, breaking out of Rene’s grip and aiming a vicious kick at the side of the Leaper’s head. Rene barely caught her and yanked her back, shouting:
“Blood and thunder, woman! Is there nothing you won’t do to piss me off?”
“Are you insane? You cannot possibly mean to leave him alive!” the Gallivant hissed.
“That’s exactly what I’m going to do. Now come here!”
Rene took her by the elbow and pulled her forward, leaving Kryptus where he lay.
“You promished you would tend to my woundssh!” the Leaper cried after them.
“Don’t push your luck!” Rene said over his shoulder, “Anyone who follows us will meet the same end as your friends.”
He and his prisoner went tramping off into the night, Zildiz raging at him all the while.
“Fool! We will both come to regret that decision!”
“You’re probably right,” Rene had to agree.
“Then why did you do it?”
“For the same reason I’m letting you strut around and screech into my ear. What can I say? I’m a conversationalist.”

2024.05.16 21:08 Vicious-Chicken Mystery discharge

My cat is 2yrs old, spayed, utd on all shots, indoor cat but with open access to fully screened patio. About 2.5 months ago she was having issues urinating. The vet said she had bladder inflammation but no stones and put her on a k/d diet. She had a follow up a month later and her labs were looking a lot better but I think she said they still saw some protein in her urine? I told her she had gotten into her sister’s food a little bit and she chalked it up to that and didn’t say anything about a follow up in another month. The wet food is too expensive so I have been grinding up the prescription kibble and adding water and a Churu packet to make her a wet “soup”. I also have been giving her a urinary treat (1 treat x2 a day). Prior to her issues she was on a wet diet 2/3 meals so I think her issues are stress related because she’s a bit of an anxious girl.
Fast forward to today and I think a weird discharge came from her. I’m not positive but she was in that area prior to me discovering it. I took a picture. It’s was like it had a slimy clear outer part with brown on the inside with a white blob on the side.
I’ve already called the vet and the earliest she can be seen is Tuesday but told me to call in the morning to see if there’s a cancellation. I’m a little concerned because she’s been more anxious the past day and a half. I just thought something spooked her (every little noise is freaking her out) but now I wonder if there isn’t something more going on. She seems to be urinating fine. She’s not licking her genitals, and the blob doesn’t smell.
Edit: My mistake. C/D diet!

2024.05.16 21:08 Educational_Fan_484 Speedway Mini 4 Pro problem

Speedway Mini 4 Pro problem
I bought this 16ah original speedway scooter second hand when it had 300km on it, i used it for almost 2 years now and have a total of 1800km. I took it to a repair shop once 6 or 7 months ago when it started charging at most till 49.3V before the charger stopped charging and began giving me the green light signifying a full charge even though the scooter said a number around 80 something percent charged. They found a cell or 3 that were failing, they changed them and then for 4 months the scooter was charging at 53,6V or 53,1V consistently and showing 97 or 100 percent.
After those 4 months it still showed a high percentage but it began discharging/dipping faster whenever i used the throttle, but then the voltages went back up. It was still great, it still did about 25km in one charge at 25-35km/h speeds between 2 days.
About a month ago the scooter began getting less charge and now it is getting a max charge of 51.8v or so, the first 300m of riding it, if it was showing 93% of charge at max, then it showed 84%, even after stopping to see if the voltage/battery percentage would go back up. It discharges so fast that doing a 4km ride and then going back, before finishing about 1.3km before arriving back the scooter just "dies". It can be showing 65% and i can be going at a modest 22km/h but then the motor stops, the display starts flashing, the numbers start glitching, the whole scooter becomes unresponsive (yes, even the power button) and it does that for a few seconds while the display gets dimmer every flash until it powers completely off. An interesting thing i see sometimes when the fainting and flashing happens, i see how the voltage and percentage numbers diminish quickly (like before the screen turned off today at its last flicker i saw a voltage of 11.something volts).
Anyways, after a couple of minutes of the scooter being turned off from the fainting problem, i can get lucky and power it back on without seeing the flashes and powering off, the funny thing is that it shows 70% and 48.something volts (obviously those numbers are phantom numbers because if i start riding at speeds over 15 then the flashing symptoms appear sooner guaranteed).
I know that the problem is in the battery pack but i want to know what the cause might be, i am stressed because i use this practically daily to get to class and spending more money on a repair like this again is getting ridiculous. Could the charger be causing this problem? Because when i plug it to the scooter and the charger is on, it won't charge unless i unplug the charger from the wall and plug it back again.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

2024.05.16 21:05 Geredeth Console: Items dropping but can't be seen

I'm kind of at my wits end here, no matter what filter level I set (it's not the filter), items just randomly stop dropping. I'll open a check in the labyrinth and literally nothing shows. I have to leave the zone and go back in, then suddenly I have legendaries on the ground. Just a bit ago I had a giant red light on the ground and a star - but I couldn't find any door for 15 minutes or so, by the time I got back it despawned.
This happens on ethernet or wireless, in groups or out, with super-sampling on or off, audio on or off, and it's near constant and gotten worse and worse in the last few updates. It's really, really, hard to try to farm and get any sort of orbs so I can possibly find gear when I literally can't see anything dropping. I'm not really sure what I can do here, and I am on a PS4 Pro (I have friends who don't have PC so I'm a bit limited here in options. Is there anything I can possibly do?
Is there some sort of cache or something I can clear? Or do I just need to reinstall?

2024.05.16 21:02 MuktadaCreations After getting eye floaters, strong light started to leave marks for long periods of time

One day, my eyes were simply more sensitive than usual. Light hurts, and looking at anything bright was a little painful. That day, I had some Systane eye drops and thought it was the cause, but due to me using the drops again afterward and before and not getting the same results, I concluded that they didn't have much with this.
Fast-forward three days later and I started to notice some eye floaters. Searched them, became depressed for a while after I realized they're permanent, then they got a little worse, but then it stopped entirely.
That was too months ago, and I am still trying to get used to these pesky bastards, now, for the real reason I made this post:
After this, any light that is strong (Phones/computers with high brightness, car reflecting some light from the sun, projector light, etc) started to burn in my vision for quite period of time. I knew this. This isn't out of the ordinary, since as a kid, looking at the sun or the lamp for long enough of a period can leave those marks. But it was **never** for this long, and **never** while looking at everyday objects that emitted light.
Hell, I can see the lines of this post printed on my eyes when I close them, and this is while my laptop's brightness is at 75%
I would be in a bus, then look at a slight reflection of the sun reflecting from a moving car. It will arc as the car moves and leaves the arced burn on my vision. This will sometimes stay for as long as 30 to 40 seconds.
Before you can even think about it, I have already gone to a doctor. A private one with a degree from the *Great Britain.* He told me that "this is normal," and that "there is nothing wrong with your eyes." Yeah, Great Britain, my ass. I can clearly tell he isn't experienced with the subject of eye floaters and eye burns (don't know the medical name), and he's clearly trying not say, "I don't know."
My wallet is dry, doctors are expensive, and I can't gamble every day with some dipshit who can barely be called a doctor.
If you know anything about this subject, please do tell, as that would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Apologies for the lack of formality, lol

My Corolla is giving a P0101 and P0172 codes. I changed MAF sensor and air filter and also cleared the code with scanner, I went for a drive and check engine light came back on for the same codes. Any pointers on what to look at next ? I also went the extra mile and disconnected the battery to clear the codes and went for another drive and the light turned on again.

2024.05.16 21:01 cusman78 Dead Hook on PSVR2 - First Impressions

I have uploaded gameplay from my fresh experience with the game here if you want to see how it looks / plays. My first impressions are shared below:
Based on my limited time with it, I recommend playing Dead Hook on PSVR2, but you should read further to decide if this will be right for you.
It is a roguelite FPS that has the feel of a game like Doom Eternal or Unreal Tournament, and for VR comfort concerns, you should know it is at its best when you are making use of the main gameplay mechanic of the grapple hooks to fling you around the battle arena rooms that have high verticality.
The game has much better story / exposition than typical roguelite where you play as Adam Stone that has some kind of personal relationship with disembodied Grace who wants to return to being corporeal again and is generally suggestive (3:20) & affectionate (21:04) towards Adam referencing their past relationship. Your (Adam's) character got damaged (including vocal-cords, so not voiced) due to malfunction while traveling through space to planet Resaract on the quest to get Mythical Stone of Immortality that will help Grace become corporeal (0:57), so there is a third voiced character in game named Raven who is an AI companion that represents the ship and provides guidance / training and part of the overall storytelling along with Grace.
The gameplay mechanics covered in tutorial (3:20) involve dual wielding variety of possible shooting weapons, EXO suit powers like Flames, Freeze and Gust that can be shot from arms (think Iron Man), use of the Dead Hook to fling yourself around with either hand (think Batman grapple more than Spider-Man web swing), melee combat using fists or even grabbing and tearing weakened enemies apart, special power of dual swords that can do massive damage, and ability to extend chainsaw blade (Ripper) that can be used to rip enemies apart (think Doom Eternal). You kickstart the chainsaw by putting string in your right-hand from your other hand to rev the motor. The game also lets you run rapidly in whatever direction you are moving with Left Control stick by moving your hands physically in running motion. You are also able to grab onto surfaces to vault yourself up and over.
As a roguelite, between runs, you can spend time on the ship check out target practice using available weapons (Earth & Ancient) or buffs (22:09), available bounties to complete on runs that will give you extra rewards (22:53), applying permanent upgrades to your EXO suit at the crafting station (23:07) and bestiary database (24:46) that lets you learn more or select opponents for target practice.
During each run (25:55), you move from procedurally generated arena rooms to next room always moving forward. Between each such room, you often have a choice of which door to choose next with some information given about what to expect in next room. Whenever you clear a room you will get weapon or buff options before proceeding to next room. You can also reach safe rooms (36:08) that won't have any enemies and instead allow you to bank / use money before proceeding. The goal is to keep proceeding as far as you can and the exposition through Grace / Raven will continue both during gameplay and after you complete / start new runs (including failures).
The game is made on Unity Engine but before Gaze Foveated Rendering became available option for developers for PSVR2. That said, the graphics of this game are generally crisp and clear except for text displays that can be blurry until you get closer. Interesting the gameplay capture recording shows all HUD elements in stable positions and relatively clear while in-headset these elements move around and not as clear (too small / far). The performance of the game is rock solid, possibly 90-120 fps. While I recognize that Gaze Foveated Rendering could possibly make the game sharper and ensure no text is blurry even at distance, I really don't have any significant critique for how the game looks because of how fast moving and good it looks in motion while not inducing any VR discomfort for me despite the wild movement.
The sound in the game has strange moments where the volume either increases (1:44 & 13:30) or decreases when the settings for that haven't been modified, but fortunately the game provides settings for Audio that helps you adjust it more to your liking. I don't know if the increases are from creative choices or technical glitches, but once I adjusted them to levels that suit me more, it became more stable.
The game is making use of resistive triggers and controller haptic feedback is also being used in variety of scenarios but perhaps not 100% of the use-cases where I think it should (or maybe the strength of the haptics in some scenarios aren't prominent enough). It is not using headset haptics when you are taking damage which I think is the biggest area of possible improvement as the red-light visual indicator that displays on left / right side of your display isn't a strong indicator of taking damage as I think headset haptics could provide.
The game does not provide many options for VR comfort, but defaults to Snap Turns which can be changed to Smooth Turns with 4 different turn speed options. It does not provide any option for teleport or vignette / tunneling / blinders.
The game features Platinum and any trophies that expect count of x have progression. Good emphasis on skill / challenge trophies where many will unlock through natural play and nothing that looks like would be frustrating / luck based.
This game is fun, but if you can't handle the VR speed / verticality or presence of some blurry text that isn't essential to read, it might not be for you.

2024.05.16 21:01 F89M My EVO ICL Experience

Hello community,
Today I would like to share with you my experiences with my EVO ICL surgery. I spent a long time reading up on the various networks about the procedure and would like to give something back to the world today.
First of all, a little information about myself: I am 35 years old and very short-sighted. I have worn glasses since I was a child. The values have stabilized at around 9 diopters and a astigmatism of around 0.5 RE and 1.5 LE. These values have been very stable over the last 7-10 years. I also have a very thick cornea. This is around 630 micrometers thick in some places. Despite all this, various doctors advised me against Lasik, as the spherical equivalent is higher than 10 diopters and I would therefore have to reckon with severe night vision problems during a laser procedure. I therefore opted for the Evo ICLs. I visited various clinics for informational interviews. I quickly realized that the 5-star centers often provided less good and patient-specific advice than expected. In the end, I had the best feeling with CareVision. This is a group in Europe with around 60 treatment centers. The advantage here is clearly a high volume of operations and a lot of experience, although a certain turnover-driven nature was to be expected. The treating doctor in Nuremberg made a very good impression on me. In the end, it was a decision in favor of the surgeon rather than the provider.
After a very detailed preliminary examination, I booked another one in a different center, this time in Munich in one of the most renowned centers in Germany. The results were generally similar, including the recommendation for Linse. Unfortunately, however, the personal feeling was very negative. So I stayed with my doctor in Nuremberg. I don't want to mention any names here, but he is Colombian and is very empathetic and patient-oriented, which will become clear as time goes on.
The operation took place on two consecutive days at the end of April. Beforehand there was a short preliminary examination, after which we were carefully prepared for the operation. Everything was done very conscientiously. For safety reasons, an anesthesiologist was present to place an access as a precaution, but the surgery only took place under local anesthesia. I was therefore awake and witnessed everything. The surgeon explained every single step and all in all the operation was as easy as a walk in the park. A visit to the dentist is worse.
I had very dilated pupils after the operation on both days and was therefore very blinded. This improved over the course of the day and in the evening it was usually almost back to normal. The second operation is much more noticeable as you now know what is happening. As I had a toric lens in my second eye, the procedure took a little longer.
Day 1 after the surgery:
The first eye is operated on and is examined immediately. There were no negative abnormalities such as inflammation, incorrect lens size etc., so the second eye was operated on immediately afterwards.
Day 2 after the surgery: Both eyes are operated on. Follow-up checks are carried out on both eyes. The eye pressure is measured and a few other examinations are carried out. A first vision test is also carried out. No negative abnormalities on the second day either. My visual acuity was already back to around 20/25 and I was allowed to drive again.
1 week after the surgery: Now it was time for my weekly check-up. A lot more tests were carried out and the results were also very positive this time. My visual performance has continued to improve. The lenses fit well and there is no reason to suspect an infection. On recommendation, I was able to stop taking all the drops just one week after the surgery.
Week 2: Minor complications In the second week after the operation, it was clear why the decision to go to the clinic in Nuremberg was a good one. I had developed an inflammation of a meibomian gland in my eye and asked for advice at the clinic. Although this had nothing to do with the operation, it was treated without discussion or additional costs. After a brief discussion, the doctor insisted on looking at it and treated the gland immediately. In addition, a complete aftercare program was carried out, as I was there anyway. That made a positive impression on me.
Day vision: It is impressive. Everything looks very sharp and very rich in contrast. I think I can see better than with glasses. What was very clear at the beginning was the ring caused by the aquaport. This is very sharply defined and clearly visible in bright light sources. However, it is in the peripheral field of vision. So it is not disturbing for me. You also get the feeling that you get used to it quite quickly and notice it less and less.
Night vision: Night vision is better than with glasses. However, there are still minor problems with slight halos and glare. This only occurs in my left eye and is directly compensated for to a very large extent by the right eye. I think this will improve over time. I feel the process already started. It also depends a little on the form of the day. I feel that dry eyes promote these phenomena. All in all I am very happy with the result currently. But I hope that the EVO Ring will disapear even more and the brain will adapt to halo and glare on my left eye. Saying that the EVO lenses do not cause any side effect is not the truth. Be aware if your pupil is too big at low light. I am sure the halos are even worse. My pupils are only 7mm in the darf and I got the latest EVO PLUS version. I
All in All: Day Vision: 9.5/10 Night Vision: 7.5 / 10
... will keep you updated.

2024.05.16 20:57 WarrenBuffettsBuffet The Democratic Party Has Never Cared about Clean Energy

A lot came to light, at least in my mind, when Biden snubbed Tesla in regards to the "White House EV summit," and whatever that second meeting was.. (Mary Barra worship?). The Democrats don't care about clean energy.
Why has every Democrat funded clean energy project in the past miserably failed while laundering money straight into politician's pockets? Why is it that every solar or wind farm has become dilapidated, ineffective, and has been labeled as a huge waste of taxpayer money and subsequently destroyed the reputation of clean energy? Why does every clean energy subsidy end up with shitty EVs like the Bolt and the Prius, then result in auto companies trading meaningless credits? The answer is becoming more and more clear as Tesla becomes more and more successful.. because the Democrats don't want clean energy to become commercially viable. In fact, they want to ensure that clean energy *doesn't* become commercially viable or widespread.
The Democrats have a vested interest in stopping clean energy because, should clean energy become widespread, they would no longer have that talking point to gain votes and maintain power. No one will care about climate change when 90% of the cars on the road are EVs, and the energy sector is 70% solar and wind with an obvious disruption playing out. Plus, think of all those terrible greenwashing projects that will no longer be lining the Democrats' pockets.
Now that there's real potential towards a clean energy revolution, the Democrats must try their hardest to squash the threat. And who's the threat to their power? Tesla. So how would the Democrats go about tarnishing Tesla's brand image? Cancelling Elon, of course. That'll be easy because he's rich. A lot of highly visible Democratic politicians have quite the loyal following after all. I refer to them as the "Woke Cult," because they are a cult subservient to narratives pushed on them, especially the ones that anger them or trigger their personal insecurities. Rich people *definitely* trigger their personal insecurities.
One of the tactics that Democrats and the Woke Cult use is to place blame of public perception onto the target. In this case, "It's Elon's fault because of what he tweets." But with some basic logic and memory of past events we can easily debunk this. It started in 2021 when Elizabeth Warren paid for ads on Facebook to run a smear campaign lying about Elon not paying taxes. That's how this started: with a lie. And it escalated from there with more lies, such as the insinuation that $6B could solve world hunger (it can't) while conveiently ignoring that the Biden administration has way more than $6B at their disposal (double standards show up a lot in extremist cults), or something about a fictitious emerald mine. There's nothing in the 2021 smear campaign story that had anything to do with what Elon was tweeting.
However, now you hear "Well Elon says anti-semitic things on Twitter" or "Elon is right wing!" None of which mattered to the Woke Cult prior to 2021. Nothing Elon says, does, does not say or does not do is going to keep the Woke Cult from hating him. They hate him for the same reason they're subservient to narratives puched on them to begin with.. because they have personal insecurities. The only way Tesla's brand image is going to be cleansed in the eyes of the woke cult is if they a) acknowledge they have personal problems, b) want to get better and c) go to therapy. So long as they're emotionally unwell, they will believe lies in order to justify their hatred of Elon and avoidance of their own personal problems. And the only way Tesla's brand image can be cleansed in the eyes of the non-woke public is to be more educated on the company and its amazing products (spread the word and your excitement for your Tesla).
You even hear Tesla investors blaming Elon for the giant smear campaign against him. The more you fear the woke cult's perception of someone or something, and the less you acknowledge the cult's toxic behavior, the more power they have.
If anything, Elon's response of opposition to the woke mind virus is making the best of the shitty situation. At least by acknowledging the cult's toxic cancel culture, he gains respect in the eyes of those who also see it. 10 involuntary steps back, but at least 1 forward.
The Democrats, along with their loyal cult followers, have now joined the oil companies and Wall Street in trying to end Tesla. This is what the largest and most abrupt disruption on the planet looks like.
If you care about clean energy, or climate change, then you should vote for literally anyone besides a Democrat. If the Democrats, the woke cult, and little Greta *actually* cared about clean energy, they would be praising Elon and Tesla for all they've accomplished. At least Republicans care about maintaining a market free of over-regulation, even if they're too stupid to realize that Tesla is going to make EVs happen. It's in the truly free market that Tesla is succeeding. Tesla is a shining example of how capitalism and the free market can solve the world's biggest problems.
If you're a Tesla investor, then this post is incredibly important information to remember. You can either fall for the psyop and be afraid and angry, or you can align with Tesla's mission and hold shares.

Hazel or Green?
My eyes tend to change color A LOT. So I’m assuming Hazel due to the fact they look brown or green in different lighting

2024.05.16 20:53 kelfis SHP2 relay fault remedial actions and general review

I have a smart home panel 2 and I have the following issues:
  1. Stuck in single phase
  2. Relay Fault alerts
  3. Inconsistent voltage outputs
There are probably more issues but these seem to be the most common. I'm not an electrician so I'm unable to diagnose why the panel will sometimes not provide Split phase power, I'm not sure if it's a DPU output issue or a SPH2 issue but I've been able to replicate it with both grid and battery power so I suspect it's an SPH2 issue but I'd be curious if a second DPU would help on the battery side. The problem presents as 240v appliances consuming power but not functioning and not consuming enough power in the monitoring app.
I think the inconsistent voltages stem from when the unit is trying to power 240 appliances with 120 but I'll have to test a lot more to see if that's true or not. The problem presents as flickering lights and electronics devices frequently losing power and failing to boot. It typically begins on a device reset.
The final problem is faulty relays, which presents as an error on the battery controller as well as in the app. The device also won't utilize battery power with these errors. While the app and support claim these are physical faults, I am able to clear the error codes and run the device for a few days. The error seems to present when switching from grid to battery or battery to grid.
To remediate (temporarily) a faulty panel error semi reliably I turn off the smart panel, unplug the DPU, disconnect the grid system, wait a minute, plug in the DPU, power on the smart panel wait for it to start using battery power (it'll think it's an outage and draw below 50% down to discharge limit) and the reconnect grid power. It should continue to operate without relay issues.
The problems I have with the SPH2 are that it's 95% reliable but for 24x7 grid use that's a significant amount of down time. It's also not self remediating, meaning it won't attempt to clear error codes (probably for the best if it would cause a system to completely deenergize) but it also doesn't appear to have fault detection for voltage, I've had electronics that are negatively affected by the inconsistent voltages.
Once the SPH2 is running it's pretty great, however it seems like every transition between grid and battery introduces a lot of risk of a energy distribution on the most critical loads in my home. I'm relatively confident in the hardware, I'm hoping firmware will fix these issues.

A Curious Blip In NBA History?
https://preview.redd.it/p4safspo4u0d1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88c2bb823b73307e96cc4b75b35f1335004bd86d
TL;DR - NBA officiating changes caused disparity between oldeyounger teams such that Nuggets were getting blown out by the T-Wolves, so they changed it back, and now the established teams (Nuggets/Mavs) are winning as the status quo should indicate.
I was just acutely aware of the fact that before Game 2 of Wolves/Nuggets and after Game 1 of OKC/Dallas, that there was an extreme shift of foul calling that clearly changed the course of both series.
We all know that the NBA started making rule changes this season, changing the way refs officiate physical play, which was lovingly referred to by certain Basketball pundits as 'prison ball'. This was, of course, praised widely by many of the old school Basketball talking heads, who always typically complain about the current era's lack of physicality/defense. And just so; as long as the rules are consistent, than change is not only warranted, but inevitable.
Fast-forward to the playoffs; it is widely acknowledged by players that there is a increase in physicality in the playoffs. So now officiating is in a pickle, do we continue with the current level of physicality or increase it as is the status quo.
So we see teams that are used to the old/standard regime of officiating, i.e. teams who have structured their strategies based on the previous rule set, and those who become more successful in the new paradigm because they are young and upcoming teams, based on health and physicality.
This all culminates in Game 2 of Wolves/Nuggets, when we see a complete breakdown. Jokic was flummoxed by the extra contact, and for good reason, if someone slaps you on the arm during every jump shot, then your going to have a hard time making baskets. He was complaining more than I'd ever seen him do before, because of the legitimate grievance of getting hammered on every play with no calls. Murray, also usually very composed, threw his heating pad in disgust after watching a no call on Towns (play was legit, but in real time, it looked like one of the most egregious travels in NBA history).
After seeing that the many players were getting hurt (an embellishing contact all the more because of it), and that it was having a profound effect on the continuity of the league, the NBA pulled the plug on the new rules and asked the officiating team to revert to old ways. They did, and now Dallas and Denver are winning nearly every game in both series, and it looks completely different before they did.
I don't blame Bill for flip-flopping in this instance, because that is how it played out real time. The nuggets were emotionally defeated after Game 2, and it looked impossible; based on the expectations of both teams, you would have to assume that the Wolves are world beaters to do what they did. What I DO blame him for, however, is missing this hot take which is in broad daylight. In this light, I will take up his mantle...
Conspiracy Corner: NBA paid pundits to look the other way so that this ridiculous misstep is lost to history. NBA also gave players a free trip to Guadalajara/ Kobe's doctor in Germany as compensation for the increased injuries, so we see miraculous recovery by those who were otherwise down and out (Luka's knee, Murray's injury, Gafford's hand, etc...). The status quo is maintained, and everyone looks the other way, dismissing this as a inconvenient blip in the history of the league. Billions are made. End of rant.
