2024.05.15 19:12 MacBareth The military-industry complex is not using atomic bombs anymore only because it's too cost effective.

If atomic bombs were stupidly expensive or less effective and make better profit they would still use them.
I think it was in the Afghanistan conflict where the US army used like 250'000 bullets on average to kill one person. Way more profitable and durable.

2024.05.15 19:08 Ok_Independence_5833 14mo son can't get into sitting (gross motor way behind)

Our son's pediatrician didn't point out a problem until 10 months (he wasn't crawling or getting into sitting on his own). It took 3 months just to get him in to see an OT. The centers PT is on maternity leave and so we have to start all over finding him a PT (the soonest appointment for evaluation at any facility near us is for July). My son is army crawling now, dragging his left leg behind him like a wounded soldier. He's kind of getting side sitting but makes no efforts to do it on his own. He's in daycare 4 days a week, and I know they try to do the exercises with him, but it's just not enough. I try to get him doing the exercises at every opportunity when he's home. We have a doctor's appointment today to see if everything is physically normal with my son's legs. But frankly I don't trust this pediatrician anymore. Every time someone asks me if our son is walking I want to cry. Any advice from anyone who's been here would super helpful.

2024.05.15 19:06 Mimolete Waifu tier list - Spoilers

Waifu tier list - Spoilers
Hey everyone!
I never played a game where I can have waifus and choose one at the end. I'm about to fight the final battle, and it has been an awesome ride, what a game!
I've eaten so much with my comrades in this game, because I wanted to max out their relationships and see every convo the game had to offer. Didn't want to choose the waifu without giving all of them a chance.
https://preview.redd.it/9puyhfxsgm0d1.png?width=904&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c3208758591ff57696a1336270f5e8d3ca46751
So, after almost 200 hours of gaming and seeing every convo, here is the final result! I'll explain a lot of them and please bear with me if it's all over the place and in no particular order!
I must say before we start, I took this decision quite seriously (lol) so my choice always was about "who do I like the most AND who could be seen as a queen when we take back Cornia".
Let's immediately start with the Queen herself, Virginia. It always was Virginia. It will always be Virginia. It was love at first sight. Don't you see this fire in those eyes?? Still, I was open-minded and willing to give any other girl a chance through the story and their convos, but even with the convos, Virgina beat them. In the first convo, she shows love towards Alain's mom (her aunt) by scolding and threatening to beat up some dudes who talked bad about the last queen. Alain arrives and sees what happened. He thanks her for getting angry because of her aunt, to which she answers something in the lines of "I'll be angry as much as you want me to be"...sheeeeesh!!! With the ost, the whole scene was fire. In the second convo, she shows indirectly she's been loyal to Alain this whole time from childhood to now. They play this chess-like game they used to play as kids. Then they got separated as kids. Years later, in this convo, Alain wins for the first time and he starts crying cuz he sees that Virginia's tactics never changed since childhood, while his changed. He cried cuz he understood she had no one to play with after he left. That's why she's making the exact same moves she used to when playing with him. One could think she would have played with Gilbert years later, but nope. Here she falls for him deeper, when she sees that he is empathic and isn't sensitive about stuff that happens to him but about stuff that happens to others. And in the final convo, Virginia who always was about that queen attitude, accepts to show vulnerability and basically asks a favor to Alain : "take me home". What a moving relationship all and all between the two, after being orphans for years, meeting together again and make it thru war. Sheesh.
I'll talk briefly about the "unstable" row, as some might ask why those are so low. Those are low because most of them are fishy or plain not for Alain. Monica is the bomb, don't get it twisted here. Look at those curly hair and those red/pink eyes, she's a noble who cares about the people. But she's also for Clive, not I can't do that to my man Clive who's the man, but she doesn't even have a final convo with Alain. It's always platonic between them. However, when you watch the last convo between her and Clive, you see they are in the way to getting back together, which is awesome. If it wasn't for her story with Clive, Monica was a serious contender to Virginia.
Same for Primm. Primm is for Aramis. Convos show that. Aramis is the most "Mr steal your girl" of all the boys. I have love for Aramis, but I can't trust him with girls around, that's just the way it is. He made Primm blush like crazy during his convos with her, calling her a little flower and stuff. And she hits into him too, very discreetly (not that discreetly). Alain on the other hand, never made her blush. And the final convo between the two shows Primm doesnt care about Alain (as a love interest I mean). Other than that, Primm was also a huge contender at first too, look at her long wavy red hair. She's sweet too. And she says in a convo with Alain, that she was chubby younger, oh boy. But of course, Mr steal your girl had to interfere and from that moment, Primm was never a choice anymore.
Liza is my girl, don't get me wrong. She blushes at the end with Alain, acts like a sweetheart who doesn't want to admit she is proudly wearing our gift...however...in a convo with Clive, he asks something like "how can I thank you" and she answers straight up "take me to dinner", what? She was never a serious contendant but she's a cutie. However when I've read this convo it was over for her. Plus Clive is taken, what are you doin Liza.
Lea I was never interested in her. She doesn't show real interest either. She cool but thats it.
Ochlys and Sharon. Oh boy, where do I begin with. Ok so let's start with Ochlys, as I think she's the most naive of the two. I really like her, and her convos with Alain are awesome, which made it hard to side her . But. but she's too weird with Sharon? If they were kiddos, I would understand their behavior, but they are grown women and they act weirdly childish between them? Why is Sharon massaging Ochlys and why is she blushing, why are THEY blushing? She's a bit sneaky too. She straight up hits on my boi Lex during their unique convo, to the point he's shook. And she acts like she was sitting on a big rock not knowing it was my man Bruno in their convo. What's that Sharon? You didnt see it was Bruno? You didn't see his armor? Don't play with me Sharon. I'll give her some good points though, in her final convo with Alain, she shows sincerity and I like the other convo in which she talks about the orphanage. You can tell she didn't have it easy yet is still kind. But she's kinda a sneak too, sorry Sharon. Look closely at her art, you can tell she can snap if something goes wrong.
Railanor is crazy hot, who's gonna tell otherwise? She's just not queen material and she looks like she's into Ithilion. She also wanna push Alain in Rosa's arms so don't look any further. Very loyal girl tho. And hot, did I say hot?
Tatiana is into Ghislain or whatever his name was. She's kinda crazy. Which is good. She unironically has pretty eyes, if you look closer at them. But she's into that dude who passed so there's nothing much we can do about that. I have to say that Tatiana was one of the most interesting girls in this game, the most interesting being her final convo with Alain, where you learn more about her secrets and her failures. And where you see her vulnerable, both physically and mentally. Her final convo was a nice and peaceful closure.
Lydielle/Rydiel (thats how you call her in the enlglish version?) is a hottie. She's a bit weird with Chloe but maybe i'm too tough with her on this so I'll give her a break on this. She just seems like a good friend to Alain, nothing seemed ambiguous between them, so i just didnt give her the love interest despite being a hottie.
Finally for this row, we have Hilda. Authoritarian red head. Hot. No last convo with Alain tho. And nothing showed any flirty moment between them, unless I dont remember something? In which case just remind me. Picking her would have felt forced and out of place.
I'm not into bestherians. Ramona tho? Oh boy, this is a touchy one. She feels comfy and her fur feels soft? Did you see those eyes? Looks like she's looking straight up into my soul with those owl eyes. And they look very feminine? She cooks, prepares tea, she is a kind soul who raised Yunifee and Morad. I'm just affraid she could hurt me with her talons but I also feel she would be very careful, you can tell by how caring she is in general. Ramona is tricky to admit but i'm not gonna write this huge post just to hide my real feeling about Ramona lol, i like her. And she's a scholar too, just like Selvie. Regular wereowls? Yikes. Ramona tho??? And she has that vibe that makes me think she could be a queen? That mommy/comfy vibe? Also she has that art in the text box where she closes an eye, which gives that yamete kudasai vibe. Plus it would make Cornia and Bastorias closer, when Bastorias was always isolated from the world. In their last convo, Alain promises to Ramona to make Bastorias closer, whats better to do that than marry someone from there?
Talking about that, let's talk Yunifee? Idk man...she just feels like a little sister. But of course the devs had to give her those hips. Come on now. She has those pointy ears too which is a hot touch. We learn late game about a theory that says that basically, bestherians were elves once. They migrated to the north cuz they were banned and used like a forbidden spell to change their appearance in order to hide. And she was a princess too iirc. So she's a very unique character, unique class in the game, thick, but the whole little sister won me at the end. She still made it to A which shows how dangerous she was to Virigina.
No transition, let's talk the Scarlett matter? Scarlett is the girl the game tries to force into you, which immediately gave negative points to my eyes. What I like her about her is she's loyal and humble. During that whole Albion arc, she kept her ground, and wanted to be part of the army and be called Scarlett, with no honorific title. She has that chest too. Of course. What I don't appreciate too much tho, but I understand some of you guys like here, is that she's a bit trying to force herself into Alain. She gets mad because he "can't see" what's in front of his eyes. What if he saw but decided not to address the matter? Why trying to force your way? Leave the man and give him space, make him run after you will you? She's a kind soul tho there's no doubt about that. It's just that shes fine, nothin wild about her. We want that spicy personality, that fire in the eyes. If I forgot something cool about her that might me second guess her, don't hesitate to tell me.
Very close to Virginia, we have the two Beren.
Let's start with Berengaria. She's loyal to the cause and Alain and isn't in Alain's way. If she can handle stuff without Alain having to worry about it, she'll do. You can see it with the Bruno's convo. She tells him no need to worry Alain about the trap and she goes with Bruno to kick some butts. She has Alain's and the army back, she's reliable and will sacrifice herself to protect the ones she loves (her whole arc in Drakengard). Marrying her would also make Alain Travis' brother in law. What's better than having this gem of a man as a brother. When you look at her art, she a hottie. And she has that convo with Virginia in which they it could have gone wrong between the two. Usually nobody stands a chance vs Virginia in a fight. But here it made me ask myself "who would win?". She's mysterious, even in the endgame I feel I could have known more about her. Marrying her would also make Cornia and Drak closer. Very very tough to have let Beren in the back, but you have to choose I guess. So much kindness in her eyes too, smh.
As for the other Beren, Berenice. Amazing underdog here, liked her as soon as I met her at the start of the game. Cool haircut, pretty eyes and smile. I really questioned myself because of her story. She became when she cud have become a knight. She basically took the hit for her chief (can't remember his name, the dude who was once loyal to Ilenia but then became a Zenoira soldier), she defended queen Ilenia's honor and got punished for it and kicked out of the army. Making her my queen would have given back the shine she deserves because of her sincere heart, and would have that "coming from the botton now we here" feeling. Taking a nice girl from the people, and making her a queen. Such an underdog and a cutie she is. Great heart and great laugh too (you can see it in some convos, notably the last one with Alain).
Let's almost end it, it's been long enough.
A rank Amalia and Rosalinda are basically just pure hot stuff but not queen material. They are hotter than most of the other girls, but let's be serious they can't be queens. Look at how they are dressed, what is Alain gonna look like with those baddies next to him on the throne. Ok so first Amalia. Do i really have to explain. Big strong baddie? Legs the height of Alain? Amalia is just a walking temptation. Rosalinda is the exact same thing but petite, smaller. Hot, knows what she wants, goes straight to the point, plays with Virginia's nerves. She's mischievous and I'm in for all of that! I'm sorry but Eltrinde can't compare to Rosalinde. Also, i have this feeling that Eltrinde is a bit sneaky don't ask me why.
B rank are all cool girls. Honestly I didn't find any real bad girl in this game, a lot of them has its own thing going on for them.
As for the last ones, I see Yahna more like big sistemom. Not the Ramona kind of mom. More like the mom real mom kind of mom. She would make an awesome advisor once Alain becomes king. I have her in my main team, the same way Ilenia had Alcina in her squad. Ummels is a traitor and we gave her redemption way too easily tbh (same as sanatio but that's another story). She was ready to have us dead and buried (pun intended), still a cutie but can't go past the betrayal stuff. Alcina didn't get to know her. She died so soon. Seems like we're able to play her postgame? No idea how she comes back from the dead but oh well. She looks like she lacks hygiene? Maybe it's just me.
Idk how I forgot to talk about Selvie? Selvie is a scholar who is always focused on science and learning about the vestiges we visit. But she's a scholar with a fantastic body. Did you see those calves? That chest? One could argue but she hit on Bruno, and call me naive, but I dare to disagree. I think she was genuine lol (maybe I'm too naive, all things considered). Because she sees everything with curiosity, I like to think she was just imagining Bruno's inside skeleton and muscles. Of course Bruno had to run out of fear, who does that? Really Bruno? Anyway at one point I thought a scholar who is a baddie would make for a nice queen, but honestly she lives to travel and study vestiges, so the throne really isn't her place to be.
Also idk why I have Raynis in B tier when I think she's special. She's just a regular character you get endgame and doesn't have much of a development, but she is elegant, would make for a nice queen, is nice to others and can be trust. Even Alain says about her she's the most kindly person he ever met, and I don't remember him saying this to anyone else. And she's a featherbow which means she's a nightmare on the battlefield. I actually moved her all the way up to A.
Not related but watched Monica art again, so much melancholy in her eyes...dang. What could have been Monica, if it wasn't for her story with my boi Clive. Consider Monica a tier of her own everyone.
Thx for reading!

2024.05.15 18:55 Sun_ele155 Let's revise Caribert and Kaeya’s hangout before 4.7 (PART 2)

Let's revise Caribert and Kaeya’s hangout before 4.7 (PART 2)
Hi everyone! It’s me again with the second part of this Kaeya’s brainrot lmao.
I might be overthinking and nothing more, but I’m looking forward to knowing your thoughts about that topic!
(sorry if I wrote anything in an incorrect English, I hope you’ll understand anyway <3)

“THE BRILLIANT PRINCE QUBAD AND HIS WAR-HUNGRY FATHER, KING QABUS”

First of all, in Hidden Strife, his father wrote:
Though we could not restore Khaenri’ah to life, we of the Alberich Clan should lead lives as those who blaze like fire, rather than those who wallow in the embers.”
Quite enigmatic, right?
Did his father have no hope in restoring Khaenri’ah as a nation but wanted anyway to lead Khaenri’ahns? Or maybe only their clan? Or did he want to find a “medicine” to cure the curse and be a hope for others?
Then we have Kaeya writing:
I saved this one memento from the fire ‘Father’ made while he wasn’t paying attention. This was in violation of our principles. Our clan’s affairs should never be recorded.
The fact that he writes ‘Father’ is actually interesting: he doesn't consider him as his main parental figure but he recognizes they are bound by blood. Also, I love how Kaeya has always been a rebel soul ahahah
For me, this sheet of paper cannot serve as any form of identification, and will not give me passage anywhere.
It seems we have a kind of bitter tone, don't we?
Now that I look at it, his handwriting was as grieving as a smoking ash pile. There is no way that I can write something like that, living in Mondstadt as I am.
Augh, that was pretty tough…
In Caribert he said to us he is not bound by his origins, yet he keeps a piece of paper about his clan, as if to remind himself that his heart is in Mond, even if his roots are in Khaenri’ah.
According to Mona, he thinks he has left his past behind him, but I do believe that in his deep heart Kaeya knows it is not like that.
I read someone saying that he seems to live in a hurry, and I think it is true: his mask of living lightly hides the constant fear that his past will catch up with him and his happy life will be at risk, the people that know him and trust him will think differently of him, they may be feel betrayed just as Diluc felt, and he is afraid of losing everything again * cries *
I'm fine, don't worry * sobbing *
Let's keep going: his hangout. Gosh, I was almost sweating when I did the Sumeru part. (even here he always says something related to time like “life is short” and so am I and it was pretty worrying)
Let's just say we have this story which feels a little TOO FAMILIAR…
https://preview.redd.it/1aqonlisdm0d1.jpg?width=1321&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a860f39421cd4cbeb3e3999b7009bd7e319e9ba
Do I even have to comment?
If we assume this story represents Kaeya's one, it doesn't look like he had a great relationship with his father, who for his part appears as an awful person: King Qabus has “sunk even deeper into the blight of hatred” and wants the army back from his son bc he craves power over everything and everyone to the point of taking action against his own son.
Prince Qubad doesn't want to obey his father's commands anymore (he fought in a foreign land “to honor his wishes”) bc he chooses peace between nations, but this means a “far stricter punishment” awaits him.
Something is definitely wrong with Kaeya's father and their relationship may hide more “ugly realities” than expected.

“DESCENDANT OF THE ABYSS ORDER'S FOUNDER”

The options about Kaeya's parents are these (if you have thought of something else pls let me know):
1) two pure blooded Khaenri'ahns
2) one immortal pure blooded Khaenri'ahn and a not cursed person from another nation
3) a person from Khaenri'ah who was cursed but was also cured in some way and a not cursed person
4) two Khaenri'ahns whose curse was broken
5) Kaeya is Caribert so his parents are Chlothar and the woman from Mondstadt he mentioned
6) his parents are from Khaenri'ah, he was born before the Cataclysm and he was frozen or he traveled in time

“AN IRREVERSIBLE CURSE”

We know Kaeya is not cursed, or, at least, that's what it seems…
Then the solutions could be:
1) and 2) mean that the curse is not hereditary and that immortal Khaenri'ahns can reproduce (doesn't it seem too easy? If it was like that, then I think there would be lots of more half Khaenri'ahns, but in the game we know very few people that come from Khaenri'ah), unless some people escaped the curse in some way. From Perinheri we know the curse is hereditary, at least the wilderness one, moreover people were cursed with it only if they had betrayed their God. If people could still reproduce, then, it is possible his mother was not cursed bc she didn’t forsake her God. I actually like the idea someone brought up about her being a worshiper of Nabu Malikata: it makes sense as for Kaeya’s ties with Sumeru and even his name.
3), 4) and 5) mean that someone found a cure for the curse, and it is absolutely possible as we found Chlothar's skeletal remains at the end of the quest.
sorry dain but it is not lol
So maybe he found a medicine, but why wasn't this medicine spread among all cursed Khaenri'ahns?
Chlothar Alberich was the AO's founder, and we know the AO is trying to find a cure for the curse, so something must have happened to the medicine Chlothar found: it didn't work anymore, it was stolen, destroyed, kept secret.
In Caribert we see a memory of the Abyss Sibling, so they could know that Chlothar was trying to find a cure.
But in the Chasm quest, for example, the Twin is actually trying to find a medicine, so either he/she didn't actually know that Chlothar had already found it, or something happened to it.
Chlothar hates the gods and begins to worship the Sinner, then he creates the AO, so I think he would have thought of sharing a medicine to cure everyone from Khaenri'ah and take revenge.
Thus, it is more likely that someone else hid the medicine, or it was stolen/destroyed by someone that doesn't want the Khaenri'ahns to be cured.
Kaeya could be "the last hope" bc he is not cursed or maybe he could be the cure himself.
https://preview.redd.it/noavl1qoem0d1.jpg?width=1495&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20a7dfbeabc1e35e3ddcfcbc38212758ebc64e26
As for the 6) we all know strange things about time and space happen in Teyvat so it wouldn't be that surprising that in some way Kaeya was born 500 years ago but traveled to our days. However, I think it is unlikely: Dain does not know him, even though we have to consider the curse of immortality is harmful to memory. However, he remembers Halfdan, so he would probably remember Kaeya too, as he is part of the Alberich clan, the regents when King Irmin fell.
Anyway, who knows what happened to Kaeya's parents… In his hangout, King Qabus is still alive and ready to confront his son, so maybe even Kaeya's father is still out there, somewhere… Especially if he is pure blooded.
As for his mother… I've already said what my headcanon is, but I don't think she is still alive, although the only proof I could offer is that Kaeya never mentions her and in his hangout Prince Qubad has a stepmother, so his biological mother may have died. But Prince Qabud's story is not the exact copy of Kaeya's one, so it is just a speculation, as everything else. But we have too little info and too many possibilities.
OK I'M DONE ahahah
Thank you for reading all this! <3
Let me know what you think!

2024.05.15 18:54 Sindinista Sourcing AK dropper bottles in US.

I’ve heard the AK dropper bottles are good quality. I bought a cheap pack on Amazon, made a ~10 ml mix of a paint I planned to use for a whole army project only for it to completely dry on a few months. I am in the US and there’s not many options I can find for the AK bottles like (AK505). What do you all use?

2024.05.15 18:44 TheGentleman300 Conquest Chapter 18: the worst chapter in the series imo, and rewriting it (part 1)

A friend of mine started playing Fates for the first time, so once again I got bitten by the “complaining about Fates” bug. In particular, watching chapter 18 of Conquest again after so many years really got me going, and while the general consensus I’ve seen online about this chapters writing was negative, I wasn’t that satisfied by any of the overviews of it I read. I decided to give it a shot myself.
Dissecting why something doesn’t work is fun and all, but I think it’s also important to be constructive which is why I wanted to rewrite this chapter alongside my criticisms. I really do think there’s a lot of potential here that could have been the highlight of the entire story, and so I’d love to try my hand rewriting this chapter to be what it could have been rather than what we got. I have most of it done already, but Reddit only has so many characters before it cuts you off and this post is plenty long enough as is, so I’ll save that for another part coming up soon. This will be part 1, explaining what the chapter is and elaborating on my issues with it, while part 2 will be rewriting it along with my thought process and explanations.
Recap: https://fireemblem.fandom.com/wiki/Black_%26_White/Script
Corrin and Co are traveling when they decide to rest for the night at the nation of Izumo. They are greeted by Izana, the archduke of the kingdom, who seems to be a real goofball. After introducing himself, the levity is ended when it’s revealed the entire Hoshidan family has been invited here as well! Before any swords can be undrawn, Izana tells both parties that the kingdom has a strict neutrality pact neither of them can violate.
The scene cuts to later, where Ryoma enters Corrin and Xanders room to talk with them. Xander and Ryoma’s argument is cut short when Ryoma is dragged off by Nohrians. Turns out “Izana” is actually a Nohrian mage named Zola, who disguised himself to trick the Hoshidan royal family into a trap. Corrin and Xander don’t approve of such dishonorable methods to win, however, and fight to rescue their captives with Xander saying “we’ll win this war with honor or die trying”. After Leo kills Zola, the game cuts to later where we see Nohrians and Hoshidans alike having a meal, much to the delight of the real Izuma, who turns out is exactly as bizarre as the fake impression. Xander and Ryoma confirm with eachother that their fight will continue as usual, but Corrin states that no matter what happens they’re grateful they got to see both families eating together even if it’s not under the best circumstances, and the chapter ends with them saying they’ll revel in this feeling.
So on paper, I think this chapter is a great idea. Despite being at war, when one family is at the total mercy of the other, they lend a hand instead of kicking them while they’re down. This highlights how the two nations could accomplish so much together if only they weren’t at war with eachother. If utilized well, this could have been a great “eye of the tornado scene” emphasizing how tragic it is that these two families who share so much in common are forced by fate to fight eachother, making it all the more sorrowful when that’s brought to it’s conclusion through bloodshed. This would also encourage Conquest players to buy Birthright in a natural and subtle way as well now that they’ve had a nice sample of the other side. Of course, I don’t think this chapter was utilized well, and after reading the script again I believe it boils down to three major problems.
-Problem 1: The Lack of Worldbuilding Causes the Conflict to be Driven by Contrivances.
This is one of the many instances where the lack of fleshing out the world and it’s rules out really hampers the weight of the scenes. Unlike Awakening where there was a general cause-and-effect outlining the level structure, all of the Fates routes are much more individual and self-contained when it comes to chapters. This means the game has to really stretch itself to justify this elaborate setup being brought up and solved in one single chapter of regular length, and it’s very apparent when you write out the summary of events here.
Corrin and his army are just walking by when they happen upon the capital of the country. Corrin decides this would be a great place to rest for the night at and are instantly welcomed by its leader, who is also the only person in the game of that country. The entire Hoshidan family also just happen to bump into us because they coincidently came here at roughly the same time, with somehow neither party noticing the other until they were staring at eachother in the same room.
The only thing we know about this new nation we’ve never seen or heard about before is that it’s a peace-loving land with some sort of neutrality pact which means the two nations can’t fight here. What is the importance of this place that would entice all the Hoshidan royals to come over for a banquet in the middle of their country being invaded? Never explained. What exactly is this pact and what power does Izuno have to enforce it, if any? Never explained. Xander, prince of a nation at war and frontline general, has never heard of it. How does Garon or Iago never figure out or look into what happened here, considering the royals walked through their trap unharmed and everybody in charge of the trap vanished? Never brought up.
How many times here was this supposedly major event dependent on coincidences, seemingly important details left completely unexplained, and characters not knowing things that should be basic information of the world they live in? Things like all this quickly build up and make the world feel small scale and artificial, as if nothing truly exists until it’s in the peripheral vision of main characters. In a vacuum, this could all be excusable if the main meat of the chapter was just so dense and important that they just want a convenient excuse to delve into it. But about that…
-Problem 2: Nothing happens, either character-wise or plot-wise.
This is the only scene in both Birthright and Conquest where all eight of the royal families are together in one spot, and they’re unable to fight eachother. What a brilliant idea! How many great scenes could you come up with from this setup alone? How many directions could this move towards?
-The families bonding over their memories with Corrin (X)
-Calling eachother out for uncool actions, like Ryoma refusing to help Elise or Nohr siccing monsters on farming villages (X)
-Working together to defeat some threat they’d have trouble taking down on their own (X)
-Some cultural exchange (X)
-Some melancholy scene where, even if there’s a lot of resentment, they acknowledge how this may be the last time they ever get to have a meal with Corrin. (Somewhat?)
-Corrin sits down and has a mature conversation with his birth family elaborating on their choice to stay with Nohr (X)
-Some negotiation or debate between the two families about the future of their countries relationship, successful or not (X)
-Corrin being formally declared by the Hoshidan royals as a Nohrian, officially cutting them out of the family (X)
So what does Conquest do with this prompt? It does the unexpected route where all of them but Ryoma are shuffled out as soon as they’re introduced, captured offscreen, rescued offscreen, most of their dinner is offscreen, finishing their meal and leaving is offscreen, all of them sans Ryoma have barely any dialog, and none of them are even present in any of the CG’s.
We actually start off strong, Ryoma and Xander naturally puff out their chest and don’t get along when they’re in the same room, but seem to calm down when Corrin elaborates on how similar they are to eachother. But the game is so eager to get to fighting that it drags Ryoma away kicking and screaming before he even gets to share what he had to say to Corrin, let alone explore what having common ground means to the two of them.
1) I understand this is the Nohrian route so it makes sense the focus is mostly on them, but Takumi only gets three lines here, one of which is “…” Hinoka also only gets three lines, which I think is still more than she got in Birthright, and two of those lines are “You!” and “What are you doing here?”. Sakura lucks out as she’s the only sibling on either side who has anything to say whatsoever when Corrin says they’re grateful they could share another meal with the Hoshidans. That’s a start, but the fact remains Ryoma is the only sibling in the chapter whose remotely relevant, the rest could be omitted and nothing would change. They are only here to be damsels in distress heightening the stakes of defeating the local bad guy rather than providing any character development, checking up on how they are doing without Corrin and Azura, comparing and contrasting their differences between their counterparts, sharing any new information about them, foreshadowing Takumi’s possession, any notable interactions with their counterparts, etc. But no, nothing happens.
2) I also understand this is a video game and they don’t have all the time in the world before the next fight has to happen, yet Conquest is oddly completely uninterested in it’s own set-up. Zola, a minor chapter boss introduced and killed in this chapter, has more screentime and relevance here than any of the siblings, something you’d think would be the actual meat of the chapter they’d want to delve into.
The implications and weight of two dueling nations and families obligated to pause their fighting and dine with eachother could easily take up two or even three chapters as a pivotal arc, yet it’s completely blazed through as if the game considered it a cute novelty rather than a potential life-changing or history-changing moment. Simply put, it’s wasted potential, as if to say “Oh both of the two families meeting in a game about choosing between mutually exclusive families? Eh whatever.”
I wanna stick with just this chapter and not rewrite a good chunk of the entire story, but I can’t stress enough that in any other game this chapter would be the plot-defining moment paving the new way forward rather than chapter 15’s “we’ll expose Garon as a monster by helping him invade an innocent people.”
Neither of the two families are fighting because they outright want to, this isn’t a war about irreconcilable differences or mutually exclusive goals, the only reason for any conflict whatsoever as far as the game has shown us is that the guy in charge of Nohr is a sociopath who threatens to kill his own children at the drop of a hat. Sure, they probably won’t hold hands singing kumbaya after one extended conversation with eachother, but when all of them are in a truce far away from Garon’s authority having a meal together, nothing significant comes out of it plot-wise?
In fact, at the end of the day what significance happened here at all?
If there’s no juicy character interactions or exploration, and no setting up future events, then presumably the point of this big moment of Corrin and Xander leaping to save their enemies was made to show off that despite working in the same army, our heroes are indeed better than the swarms of war criminals under Nohr’s name we’ve seen and would never tolerate such things under normal circumstances. They’ve talked the talk about disagreeing with their father’s cruel methods, now here’s proof they’ll walk the walk, aren’t they such noble people? The way this is done however, opens up another can of worms…
-Problem 3: Protags come off as dicks
While our heroes are indeed more likeable and moral than blatant monsters like Garon and Hans, liking peace and disliking war crimes is not enough of a reason for a pat on the back. Our protags might not be burning villages for fun, but it’s difficult to take their proclaimed goal of peace seriously considering both the context of working for people who DO burn villages for fun and they way they handle themselves when presented with an opportunity to work on this supposed goal.
Corrin and Azura
Azura in particular is problematic here. During Odovakar 's excellent overview of the problems with Fates writing, he goes into detail about how Azura’s line about “this is all quite heartwarming. We're like one big family...albeit, a dysfunctional one.” in particular comes off as incredibly tone deaf and tasteless given the circumstances of Azura and Corrin marching on one family’s homeland for the sake of the other family. What I think was also worth noting is the context leading up to that line…
Sakura: I was just, um...th-thinking...it's really nice to finally see you again. I'm glad you... I'm glad you f-found a way to be happy... Corrin: Sakura... I'm happy to see you too. Sakura: R-really? You mean it?! Oh, Corrin! Elise: HMPH! Back off, you! He/She's my brothesister! MINE! Sakura: Ah! I'm s-sorry! Corrin: Elise! Mind your manners, little one. Elise: But she's trying to take you away from me... She's my archnemesis
Whether intentional or not, this is actually a very clever microcosm of the family’s conflict acted out by the youngest and most innocent among them who probably weren’t even born when the conflict started. The Hoshidan loves their sibling, but their time with Corrin is interrupted by the Nohrian shoving them away and declaring Corrin for themselves. This is a great way to challenge our protags to some introspection about themselves.
Azura: Heehee! Corrin: Azura? Did you just...giggle?
Instead, Azura just finds this a real knee-slapper. I understand maybe this is just meant to be a cute image of imoutos fighting over oni-chan Corrin and nothing more, but the context makes it very hard to swallow the narrative’s insistence that all this is “heartwarming” as Azura puts it. Keep in mind that all the Hoshidan nobles are sitting at the same table watching all this. Do you think Ryoma also finds it funny that his little sister is scared off and declared an archnemesis by the daughter of the man who killed his father in cold blood? Do you think Hinoka also thinks it's like one big dysfunctional family when Corrin is preparing to march on her homeland with an army?
I get it, I totally know what they were going for, and in a vacuum it could be a great line making for a properly bittersweet moment. “Even if the two are at eachothers throats and the future is bleak, me and Azura are grateful we get to have at least one big normal dinner together like a real family.”
But the future is bleak because of Corrin and Azura participating in an invasion, the families are at eachothers throats partially because Corrin and Azura haven’t accomplished anything to reform Nohr. If anything, Corrin should feel great shame here. Elise just unintentionally reenacted the history between the nations where Nohr was clearly in the wrong, and Corrin is sitting directly across and staring at the family who’ve done nothing wrong to him yet are going to be hurt because of Corrin’s decision. Grateful they could spend time with them again? Maybe. But cheerful and laughing?
ProZD: D-did an alien write this game? blows gently
But at least Corrin doesn’t show outright contempt for the family they’re screwing over…
Xander and Leo
Xander: Corrin! There's no need to insult me like that. I could not possibly be anything like this sorry excuse for a prince. … Xander: We will win with honor or die trying. Come, Corrin. Let us go set free our sworn enemy. … Corrin: Heh, sorry... It's just that you and Ryoma really are so much alike. If you weren't on opposite sides of a war, I think you could have been great friends. Xander: Yeesh... Do me a favor and keep that nonsense in your head where it belongs. … Xander (to Ryoma): We only acted as Nohrian royals should. When we leave this place, you'll be nothing but an enemy to be defeated once more.
Okay, but why? Ryoma is not the one Xander overheard laughing to himself about how much he’s going to make Corrin suffer. How are the Hoshidan royals “nothing but enemies to be defeated” here when they’re just trying to defend their homeland from somebody who assassinated their king at a peace meeting? Where is all this contempt from Xander coming from?
It’s perfectly understandable he doesn’t get along super well with Ryoma because of the tensions between their nations, that makes sense, but I see no reason for why Xander is making several petty insults to his face unprompted, let alone so nonchalant and even somewhat eager to get back to waging a war Xander himself calls “a senseless war of greed and madness” in the epilogue.
He doesn’t treat his own people much better this chapter, declaring Zola and his henchmen as “traitors” to be “dealt with” for their dishonorable methods when ironically Zola taking over the country by disguising himself as the archduke is actually one of the least evil and self-destructive things we’ve seen the kingdom do so far. It must be emphasized that every sibling was in the same room watching Garon demand Xander kill Corrin if he interferes with killing POWs for his amusement, and half of them were in the same room when Garon ordered his henchmen to murder every singer they can find in a neutral country. So a few hundred or thousand innocent people, most of whom would presumably be young woman, murdered to snuff out potential assassins. Or Garon directly ordering the deaths of unarmed civilians in chapter 13 with Hans relaying “Villagers are just soldiers who haven’t picked up a sword yet.”
Xander talks a big game in this chapter about how “we’ll win this war with honor or die trying”, but how do you honorably win a war when your nation is constantly and openly rushing to pointless overkill brutality like this at every turn? What moral high ground does this country have that Xander is so determined to preserve he kills loyal soldiers over what he sees as sullying it, when at no point in the game does the influence of Nohr ever do anything but make life significantly worse? His sudden fervor towards doing the right thing is completely contrasted later on when Xander is the one telling Corrin there’s no justice to be found in war and you just gotta do what you gotta do rather than what’s morally right, in response to Corrin being upset the Nohrian army is killing woman and children who looked at them funny.
“Justice is an illusion, a fairy tale…Letting innocents die is a tragedy, but so is letting the chance for peace slip away. This is war. There is no such thing as a clean win when lives are on the line.”
“Justice is just a fairy tale, innocent people getting screwed over is something we have to accept in war because there’s no such thing as a clean win! But also we better win this senseless war of greed and madness with honor or die trying!”
I understand one might get the impression I’m going off topic or selectively picking and choosing quotes here from all over the game, but no matter how you look at it Xanders beliefs, morality, and priorities are just all over the place depending on what the plot needs him to do. This means not only is his motivation for helping his enemies here faulty no matter how you look at it, but it also makes the extreme lengths he goes to do so, killing his own subjects who won him victory on a silver platter because it wasn’t a “proper” victory, come off as baselessly self-righteous at best and outright cruel at worst.
I’m sure the game would assure us Zola and all his mooks are terrible people who had it coming, but the issue is no matter how virtuous you portray Xander and creepy you portray Zola, Xander is still directly managing the war for a megalomaniac and helping him achieve his goals in spite of his long history of open sadism and public crimes that make Zola look like a saint. By ignoring the clear root cause of Nohr's dishonor while going this hard against random goon's participating in dishonor, instead of being a gallant preserver of morals, he comes off like a bully who selectively picks and choices punishment.
On the topic of punishment, it particularly rubs me the wrong way how Leo just casually mercs Zola at the end, keep in mind Birthright confirms for all his faults he actually isn’t a complete monster like Garon and dies trying to help the protag.
Leo (smiling portrait): You’d probably rather die than live with the shame, correct? In that case…
Zola: Eek! No, please! M-m-milord... I was wrong! S-so wrong! I have seen the error of my ways! P-please...spare my unworthy life!!
Leo (still smiling): Make peace with it, Zola. Perhaps on the other side you will find forgiveness.
Leo makes a fair argument that the stakes are too high and Zola can’t be trusted not to snitch, but this is bit sadistic, no? One of the most powerful people in the country is smug and sarcastic as he’s getting ready to execute somebody whose bleeding on the ground begging for his life and genuinely confused as to why we’re upset with him. I know the intent of “I was wrong! I have the seen the error of my ways!” is supposed to be him saying whatever Leo wants to hear to weasel out of punishment, but that’s exactly the thing, he’s fully cooperating and doing everything he can to appease this guy. And then he’s just killed like a dog without trial or final words, presumably using the spell that skewers you with tree branches.
Didn’t the game use killing defeated foes like this to establish Garon as a bloodthirsty monster? Why is Corrin just standing there watching this happen? This exact same scenario in Birthright has them jump to spare Zola, but here their disapproval is very meek and only voiced after the deed is already done. It’s still apparently too much for Leo though, who chastises Corrin for being “too soft…I envy your innocence.” And then he declares the matter settled on their behalf.
I’m sure this scene was meant to show off Leo’s pragmatism and strategy skills, but it just makes him look like a sociopath and Corrin look spineless. And that’s the biggest issue with this chapter to me, more than the plot being driven by contrivances that aren’t explained or the lack of any character development or interesting scenes taking advantage of the setup, the actions and dialog of our protags don’t match the noble heroes the narrative insists they are:
These are not the actions of heroic characters.
Summary: Overall, this is a very bizarre chapter. It feels like something meaningful happens here at first glance, your brain sees what’s going on and knows that this is supposed to be a huge moment. Peaceful music playing, a very well-drawn CG of dozens of individual units, liberating a country from Nohrian control, Corrin and Azura are happy and say some lines that sound like they should be deep and impactful.
But when you step back and analyze the bigger picture and context, you find that more or less embodies all of Fates writing, both good and bad. It has a brilliant premise that gets your mind going, excellent presentation to accompany it, and some individual scenes or dialogue in a vacuum are very welcome. If you’re a casual player who just wants context for your favorite characters fighting, it’s easy to feel satisfied at first glance and move on thanks to those factors, especially since the gameplay and MyCastle are very fun. At the same time, there’s no denying the severe flaws that hamper the experience.
Despite being the hyped-up main draw of the chapter, our exciting premise that opens so many doors is almost completely neglected in favor of (once again) exposition on meaningless settings and characters that aren’t relevant anywhere else and also reminding us how evil Nohr is, to the point the chapter title is Black and White. The context makes it very difficult to take the plight of our heroes seriously due to their lack of action (both before and in the present) to achieve their proclaimed goal despite ample opportunity, the proaction they do have being unnecessarily extreme and self-serving, and a narrative that insists they are in the right at every turn despite the results clearly showing us otherwise. There’s definitely bits and pieces of something great buried in all this teasing us, otherwise I wouldn’t be interested enough to write this much all these years later, but as is it’s just a mess. An enjoyable mess, but a mess all the same.

But what do you guys think of Conquest Chapter 18: Black and White? Do you also consider it a wreck, or was there something positive here you believed I missed? What would you like to see in a potential rewrite of it?

After the May 7th (new Moon 🌑) Atlanta meetup, I realized the lunar phases in the San Francisco NFT may be more important than previously thought, so I went back for another look.
Previously, we discovered the Gmerica-1 April 15th (first-quarter Moon 🌓) launch date, followed by Gmerica-1 landing on April 23rd (full Moon 🌕). April 23rd also marked the beginning of Passover, which ended on April 30th. The 8 days of Passover are represented by the characters on the bridge. Ryan stylized the NFT in the iconic splitting of the Red Sea by Moses, an important Passover event.
https://preview.redd.it/ls2ql1niam0d1.jpg?width=2128&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44758c695d6691195a346bdd7ffb16fae6d242df
https://preview.redd.it/tu871jinam0d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=becec958993bcf7461bebd37c946cf73e83b6c12
So we got to the 30th. Where to next? The next lunar phase after April 30th is May 1st (last-quarter Moon 🌗). We can see the May 1st last-quarter Moon represented by the "Power to the Players" sign with the left side of the sign being illuminated.
The "No U Turn" sign does not represent a Lunar phase, despite being half-illuminated. The sign symbolizes the Israelites crossing the Red Sea on the 7th night (dark) and 8th morning (light) of Passover. With the Egyptian army in pursuit, there was no turning back for the Israelites, hence "No U Turn".

Now we need to make a connection with the final lunar phase in the NFT. Remember RC said "every detail matters", so there must be something to the car race on the bridge. On the weekend after Passover was the May 5th F1 Grand Prix in Miami, Florida. RC showed us in the Teddy books it would be "Game Over" soon after the Grand Prix.
https://preview.redd.it/w6i8e2gtam0d1.jpg?width=1790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64f27b699e9c4f3815f044e78ac0809062ada086
The F1 Grand Prix finished on the 5th, but the finish to the race on the bridge is the May 15th first-quarter Moon, represented by the GameStop sign illuminated on the right side.
https://preview.redd.it/octkqtfwam0d1.png?width=1373&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1f013c24043d218547ea517de5af3d96fb515f1
Now we can fill in a timeline with all lunar phase dates. Only the events of May 15th are yet to be determined.
The April 8th solar eclipse and new Moon marked the beginning of the lunar phase countdown. With exception to San Francisco, all of the Gmerica V2 NFTs make reference to the solar eclipse. Larry Cheng's buy may have signaled the beginning of a merger blackout period (Sun "blacked out" by the Moon).
https://preview.redd.it/0pi94sz6zl0d1.png?width=1175&format=png&auto=webp&s=56b17ba83d58ef3929491d1f0e374186316edf9d
So what, if any, event is supposed to happen on the 15th? Whether today, tomorrow, or soon, some of us are expecting the announcement of GameStop becoming a holding company and the acquisition of Butterfly (BuyBuyBaby, Lego, WHP Global etc.). Do we have any clues this could be the case for the 15th?
Nasdaq requires a 15 calendar day notice for a listed company forming a holding company. Presumably, there would be too many eyes on at Nasdaq for this information not to leak into financial circles. GME started shooting up rapidly on May 2nd. If we assume an after-market May 1st Nasdaq notification, that would put the first effective date for a holding company on the 16th. Is it possible we get an after-market May 15th announcement?
https://preview.redd.it/j9guuf9exl0d1.png?width=2012&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8fe9f3c464dfbab6f09fa5d2801996060fbc7ab
Remember, every detail matters, and we still need to take into account the double rainbow and setting sun in the background of the NFT. On the second last page of Teddy and the Stock Stand, Kingston and Princeton are told to save their money for a rainy day. On the last page, the Sun is setting and Teddy and the boys go to bed before waking up in the morning to the best stock stand in the world.

2024.05.15 18:33 Realistic_Badger_708 On building three villainous businesses and how they fit in my world

Hey, here's a bit about my world before I ask about the three companies. Similar to our world, a major difference is the nations developing super soldier (soldiers with enhanced human abilities) during World War 2 before stopping in the 50s due to how the costs were outweighing the benefits. However, SWORD (a government organization) is formed in the 40s to protect the US from any "super" threat and has been collecting anomalous objects and people.
Fast forward to 2011, when Nyxia, a trickster god, opens a portal in New Aurora (a city stand in for New York) and uses the Mind Gem to lead an army of aliens. SWORD deploys the Guardians (Armor Man [CEO in an armor suit], Apex [an alien raised from the Midwest], Serenity [an interdimensional experiment caused her to get light magic], Lady Liberty [super soldier from an alternate US where Germany won], Red Ranger [govt agent], and Agent X [govt agent]) to fight Nyxia and the aliens. The heroes saved the day, though the city needed to rebuild. Three businesses found themselves connected to the 2011 event.
People R Us - Founded in 1991, Karen Ritter runs a therapeutic and career wellness business. Her company has helped get back on their feet during the 2011 attack. However, the company funds different operations to create superpowers. This has lead to the creation of several supervillains. While Karen dislikes superhumans and sees them as a threat to humanity, she's not above the idea of using her business (both public and private) to better people.
Omegan Corp - Founded in 1999 by her mother, Martha, Megan Max is the CEO. Publicly, the business presents itself as a technology company. Behind closed doors, Megan had stolen the Mind Gem to build her drone program. In her drone program, people are mind controlled to have a drone personality control their minds and bodies. In a year, Megan had converted all public staff members and board members into drones while having hundreds more people (majority homeless and missing people from the 2011 attack) working in secret facilities. Megan was able to retrieve Serenity's corpse and revive her (though having her under her control).
Lexxington - Founded in 2011, Zelle, a demon, runs the law firm to help victims of the 2011 attack. What Zelle's clients and employees don't know is doing business with her causes them to give their souls to her.
If you can, ask me anything about People R Us, Omegan Corp, and Lexxington and how they fit in my world.

2024.05.15 18:01 Mister_Ape_1 War time Rock Apes (and also an even more mysterious creature) from Vietnam and surrounding areas

I have found reports about Rock Apes from Vietnam. While firstly I believed them to be Erectine hominids, after reading some more about them I think they may be pre Homo hominids or even relict bipedal Miocene apes. But together with the reports about Rock Apes I found something even more surprising, no less than reports of TAILED "wildmen". Here it is what I have found...
About Rock Apes :
US troops reported large primates living in the mountainous jungles of the Vietnam Central Highlands. The creatures were described as six-feet tall with brown or reddish-brown hair like an orangutan. They were also described as bipedal. There are no known orangutans in Vietnam. (Even though they did live there in the past)
Shortly after US troops entered the Central Highlands in the 1960s, stories of ape-like creatures began to emerge. This was the first time in history that large numbers of humans had entered into this area.
In 1966 the 3rd Marines erected a base near Da Nang city on the jungle-covered Dong Den Mountain. These Marines reported attacks by unidentified animals that threw rocks into the compound, injuring some of the Marines. The Marines named them “Rock Apes,” and Dong Den became known as “Monkey Mountain.”
In 1968 Company M 3rd Battalion 5th Marines reported rocks thrown at them at Monkey Mountain.
In 1969 a patrol from Company D 1st Battalion 502nd Infantry Regiment encountered eight Rock Apes on Moulton Ridge that came walking along the trail. Mistaking their brown fur for Vietnamese army uniforms, they opened fire. One male charged the US soldiers while the other seven retreated, which is similar behavior to silverback gorillas.
Dr. Felton’s video reports there are hundreds of stories about encounters with Rock Apes in Vietnam. Some of these are likely cases of mistaken identity since Vietnam has several indigenous monkey species. However, the American soldier’s description of the Rock Apes were consistent as being five to six feet tall, bipedal, powerful, and covered in brown or reddish-brown hair.
North Vietnamese soldiers also reported a similar creature. Both the physical description and the behavior match what American soldiers reported.
In 1970, the North Vietnamese found evidence of the creature's existence when the Hanoi Pedagogical University found unidentified footprints.
Also in 1970, British Zoologist Dr. John McKinnon discovered tracks in a nature preserve that led him to believe that an unidentified hominid lives there.
In 1974 a North Vietnamese General ordered an expedition to find evidence of the creatures. A professor of Vietnam’s National University found prints that were wider than a human’s but larger than those of an ape.
In 1982 another professor of Hanoi Pedagogical University found more unidentified prints that were similar to those seen by Dr. John McKinnon.
About tailed monkeymen :
In 1820, a French ship captain named El Rey reported a story told to him by a Jesuit missionary. He had claimed to have encountered a race of men with tails. The hill tribes called them wild men.
In 1830 Father François-Isidore Gagelin recorded similar stories about the highlands of Cambodia.
In 1895 anthropologist Paul D’Enjoy published an article in which he claimed to have discovered a population of wild men with tails in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. He even claimed to have captured a sample. His article was ridiculed all over the world.
In 1912 explorer Henri Maitre published a book in which he recounted that the natives of the Central Highlands “shelter a peculiar and legendary beast” which he referred to as “the Wildman” and described as having a “tail like a monkey.” Maitre described the creature as less than five-feet tall with thick red hair.
Maitre’s description was identical to several different peoples in different parts of Vietnam.
More reports of the creatures occurred in the 1920s.
In 1947 a French officer with a contingent of indigenous troops encountered a creature he said was neither human nor monkey. The indigenous sergeant told the officer the creature was well known to them, saying that they never hunted or ate the creatures. The officer recorded that the indigenous men were filled with joy as a result of the encounter.
The Rock Apes may be relict Orangutans or a local Bigfoot relative, either way they are cryptic, but if they are mere Orangutans, how much bipedal can some more ground dwelling Orangutan cultures be ?
And what about the tailed "wildmen" ? I know it is literally unbelievable, but is not the first time, I found one was killed in Malaysia. Are they apes (whatever humans or other great apes) with a birth defect, or a giant, bipedal Cercopithecoidae creature ?

2024.05.15 17:49 Nice_Bee27 The use of special effects in BW films.

Hi everyone, I like to discuss films and movies. I would like to ask from the community, that we have these talented people who work for production houses outside india, for all kinds of beautiful VFX. Most of our films are based on crime, thriller, romance, army, and biopics. Period dramas are relatively much less, and the science fiction is non existent. Why can't we come up with beautiful films/OTT based on fantasy, or science fiction. Why can't we kick our special effects up a notch. I'd love to see Hatim in special effects, adaptation of fairy tales, or life of indian physicists. The last great film was Bhoolbhulaiya, and the part 2 completely destroyed it. I understand that Indian audience is not advanced, but all of us have been always reaching out to hollywood for fulfilling this need of great cinema. Why can't we come up with something original based on science fiction, based on astronomy, space, like 3 body problem was a great watch.
With every horrible film, like archies or bhoolbhulaiya 2, tu jhuthi mai makkar (it was awful couldn't stand for 5 min), I always see the resources wasted, there's so much potential for Indian cinema to be better both in terms of story telling and production. I want the cinema to give me goosebumps to how good it is. I loved the set of heeramandi, almost as aesthetic as Geisha. The latest film laapta ladies touched our hearts but I want something even more like Swades, dhanak and tummbad.

2024.05.15 17:24 tsuki____ My Clan Was Banished from the Heavenly Realm

My name is Arkanos, and I am a Phoenix of the Clan of Eternal Flames. Once, we roamed the Heavenly Realms, proud and immortal, our feathers ablaze with hues of orange and red, a stark contrast to my own blue and white flames. But that was before the betrayal.
The Dragons, Demons, and Angels, jealous of our power and fearful of our immortality, conspired against us. They ambushed our clan in a fiery battle that shook the very foundations of the heavens. In the end, we were outnumbered, outmatched, and outgunned. Defeat was inevitable.
As punishment for daring to challenge their authority, we were banished from the Heavenly Realms, cast out into the vast expanse of the cosmos. But the punishment didn't end there. Our clan was torn asunder, scattered across thirty different realms, each more treacherous than the last.
And so, my quest began. Alone and filled with a burning desire for revenge, I set out to reunite my clan and reclaim our honor. But it wouldn't be easy. The journey ahead was fraught with danger, and I knew that only the strongest and most cunning would survive.
The first realm I stumbled upon was a desolate wasteland, where the sky burned red with the fires of eternal damnation. It was here that I found the first member of my clan, a fellow Phoenix named Shiki. She had been hiding among the shadows, her once vibrant feathers reduced to a mere flicker.
Shiki was a sight to behold, her feathers a blend of fiery orange and crimson red, a stark contrast to my own blue with a hint of white. Despite the harsh environment, she radiated a sense of resilience and determination, qualities that resonated deeply with me.
Together, we braved the dangers of the wasteland, facing off against hordes of demonic creatures hell-bent on our destruction. The air crackled with the heat of our flames as we fought side by side, our wings beating in perfect harmony.
But with our combined strength and cunning, we emerged victorious, our flames burning brighter than ever before. As the last of our enemies fell before us, Shiki and I shared a triumphant glance, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that had formed between us.
As we journeyed onward, we encountered all manner of trials and tribulations. In one realm, we were forced to navigate a labyrinth of twisting corridors and deadly traps, each step bringing us closer to the brink of disaster. But with Shiki's keen intuition and my ability to see through illusions, we were able to overcome every obstacle in our path.
In another realm, we battled against an army of ice giants, their frozen breaths threatening to extinguish our flames. But with our fiery determination and unwavering resolve, we stood our ground, our flames melting the icy barricades that stood between us and our goal.
But through it all, we remained undaunted, our determination unwavering. For we knew that with each trial we faced, we grew stronger, our bonds forged in the fires of adversity.
As we continued our journey, I couldn't help but marvel at the strength and resilience of my fellow clan members. Each one brought something unique to the table, their skills and abilities complementing one another in ways I could never have imagined.
And so, with each new member we encountered, our clan grew stronger, our flames burning brighter with the promise of a brighter future. For we knew that together, we were unstoppable, our bond as unbreakable as the flames that danced within our souls.
But little did we know that greater challenges lay ahead, challenges that would test the very limits of our strength and courage. But one thing was certain: no matter what obstacles we faced, we would face them together, united as one in the face of adversity.
It was during our travels that I met her, the one who would change everything. Her name was Aria, a fierce warrior with a heart as fiery as her red hair. At first, I tried to push her away, fearing that my quest for revenge would only bring her harm. But she refused to be deterred, her unwavering loyalty melting the icy walls around my heart.
Aria was unlike anyone I had ever met before. She possessed a strength and determination that matched my own, yet beneath her tough exterior lay a heart of gold, a heart that yearned for nothing more than to see justice served.
Together, we fought side by side, our flames intertwining in a dance of passion and desire. With each battle we faced, our bond grew stronger, our souls entwined in a fiery embrace that burned brighter than the sun itself.
But our happiness was short-lived, for betrayal lurked around every corner. In a moment of weakness, I revealed our plans to a trusted ally, only to discover that he had been working for the Dragons all along.
The sting of betrayal cut deep, tearing at the very fabric of our newfound love. I watched in horror as Aria's trust in me wavered, her fiery gaze clouded with doubt and uncertainty.
But even in the face of betrayal, our love remained unbroken. Together, we confronted the traitor, our flames burning with a righteous fury that could not be extinguished.
In the end, justice was served, but the scars of betrayal remained. Yet through it all, Aria stood by my side, her unwavering loyalty a beacon of hope in the darkness that threatened to consume us.
As we continued our journey, our love grew stronger, our flames burning brighter with each passing day. And though the road ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, we faced it together, united in our quest for revenge and redemption. For no matter what trials lay ahead, we knew that as long as we had each other, we could overcome anything that stood in our way.
As we neared the end of our journey, the three clans grew desperate, their forces converging upon us like vultures circling their prey. But we were ready. With the full strength of our clan reunited, we launched a final assault against our enemies, our flames burning hotter than the sun itself.
The battlefield was a symphony of chaos and destruction, the clash of steel and roar of flames echoing across the realm. Dragons soared through the skies, their fiery breath scorching the earth below. Demons emerged from the shadows, their eyes burning with a hunger for destruction. Angels descended from the heavens, their divine powers unleashed in a torrent of holy fury.
But we were not alone. With Shiki, Aria, and the rest of our clan by our side, we fought with a ferocity and determination that could not be matched. Our flames danced and flickered, casting a brilliant light against the darkness that threatened to consume us.
The battle raged on for days, the skies painted red with the blood of the fallen. But in the end, it was the Clan of Eternal Flames who emerged victorious, our enemies scattered to the winds like ashes in the breeze.
As the dust settled and the smoke cleared, I looked out upon the battlefield, my heart heavy with both sorrow and triumph. The price of victory had been steep, and many had fallen in the name of our cause. But their sacrifices had not been in vain.
And so, with the three clans vanquished and our honor restored, we rebuilt our clan from the ashes of our former selves. Together, we vowed to never again be swayed by the temptations of power and greed, our flames burning bright with the promise of a new dawn.
As for me, well, let's just say that I finally found my purpose in this vast and chaotic universe. For I am Arkanos, leader of the Clan of Eternal Flames, and I will stop at nothing to protect those I hold dear.
And as we stood together, united as one, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together, our flames burning brighter than ever before. For we were not just a clan, but a family, bound together by the unbreakable bonds of love and loyalty.

2024.05.15 17:21 redcar41 1 Kings 1: 1-10

Hello! I've made comments here on this subreddit before, but this is my first time as a contributor. If you have any tips or feedback, then that'd be great. Thank you, have a great day and God bless! :D

Adonijah Sets Himself Up as King

1 When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him. 2 So his attendants said to him, “Let us look for a young virgin to serve the king and take care of him. She can lie beside him so that our lord the king may keep warm.”
3 Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4 The woman was very beautiful; she took care of the king and waited on him, but the king had no sexual relations with her.
5 Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses\)a\) ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. 6 (His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)
7 Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support. 8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.
9 Adonijah then sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah, 10 but he did not invite Nathan the prophet or Benaiah or the special guard or his brother Solomon.
Footnotes: a) 1 Kings 1:5 Or charioteers
Observations/ Questions
1) So here we see David towards the end of his reign. 2 Samuel 5:4 says that David was 30 years old when he became king and ruled for 40 years, so he's now 70 years old. For verses 1-4 in my Bible, I had a note directing me to 2 Samuel 21: 15-17. At this stage, David's days of fighting in wars are over, so he's no longer in the best shape physically. I don't think he's completely confined to his bed though. 1 Chronicles 29: 22 mentions Solomon being acknowledged as king a second time, so I believe the events of 1 Chronicles 28-29 happen in between the first and second chapter of 1 Kings.
I don't particularly have much else to say about verses 1-4. Enduring Word Commentary on 1 Kings 1 has this note: "It was proper because it was a recognized medical treatment in the ancient world, mentioned by the ancient Greek doctor Galen. When Josephus described this in his Antiquities of the Jews, he said that this was a medical treatment and he called the servants of 1 Kings 1:2 “physicians.” I should also mention that I looked up Abishag on Bible Gateway and she's not mentioned again in the Bible after the next chapter. Feel free to add any further insights/ takeaways that you have for verses 1-4.
2) What are your impressions of Adonijah in this section?
According to 2 Samuel 3:2-4, Adonijah is David's 4th son. Amnon and Absalom (David's 1st and 3rd sons) are dead as we know from 2 Samuel. David's 2nd son is Kileab/Chielab (AKA Daniel in 1 Chronicles 3:2), the son of Abigail the widow of Nabal (from 1 Samuel 25). From what I've seen in commentary notes, the belief is that this 2nd son was either dead or somehow unfit to be king. The thought crossed my mind that it could be possible that Kileab could be both alive and eligible, but turned down the crown. I'm not familiar with how succession rules worked in those days, so feel free to correct me if that possibility I came up with is unlikely.
For verses 5-6, I have John 5:44, 2 Samuel 14:25 and Proverbs 3:5-6 written down in my Bible. Adonijah takes a lot after Absalom and even uses some of Absalom's strategies like 2 Samuel 15:1.
Verse 6 stands out a bit for me. One modern phrase I've seen recently was something like "This person sounds like someone whose parents never told them no", which could apply here to Adonijah. I think it's safe to say that from what we've seen in 2 Samuel 13 that David wasn't really a great father unfortunately.
Not to put all the blame on him of course, for what Adonijah ends up doing. For verses 7-8, I have Psalm 75:6-7, James 4:10 written down in my Bible. I also have Leviticus 3 written down for verse 9. I would assume that's included since Adonijah's trying to use these sacrifices to act like he has God's approval in front of the people.
3) I'd also like to bring up Proverbs 22:6 as a possible verse in regards to Israel's leadership as a whole so far. I was rereading 1 Samuel recently and came to a realization. Israels' most current leaders so far have been Eli, Samuel, Saul, and David.
Eli-We see God judging Eli and his house for what happens in 1 Samuel 2-3. 1 Samuel 3:13 mentions that "he(Eli) failed to restrain them(his sons)"
Samuel-We don't know how good/bad of a father Samuel was, but his sons were corrupt(1 Samuel 8:1-3)
Saul-We don't know how Saul treated his other 2 sons. Saul tried to kill Jonathan twice (1 Samuel 14: 38-45 and 1 Samuel 20: 24-34), but Jonathan turned out well even when Saul was falling apart as his reign went on
David-already brought up
Solomon later on-Rehoboam has very little(if any at all) of Solomon's wisdom as we'll see
Israel's leadership really seems to struggle overall with the next generation. Still, I don't think Proverbs 22: 6 is a permanent rule, if we consider later on from Ahaz up to Josiah in 2 Kings (Josiah in particular was one of the Southern Kingdom's best kings despite the ungodliness of his grandfather Manasseh and his father Amon).
4) Why do you suppose Joab and Abiathar decided to side with Adonijah? What(if anything) was so different that they didn't side with Absalom before?
Joab and Abiathar are the 2 big names in David's kingdom(Joab as the army commander and Abiathar the priest). Joab I can see conspiring with Adonijah since he's done stuff before without David's knowledge and/or approval(ex: killing Abner, Absalom and Amasa). The next chapter in verse 28 mentions that Joab had conspired with Adonijah but not Absalom. Abiathar I'm not too sure about. I've seen commentary notes state that Abiathar was envious of Zadok the priest. It's not completely out of the question, but the way the commentary notes I've seen try to explain this felt like a bit of a reach to me.
5) Minor note here. Joab has 2 brothers, Abishai and Asahel. Asahel we know was killed in battle by Abner in 2 Samuel 2. Abishai is never mentioned after Sheba's revolt in 2 Samuel 20 and the list of David's men in 2 Samuel 23, so chances he died at some point before 1 Kings.
6) What else stands out to you in this passage? (Any further insights, questions, etc?)

2024.05.15 16:52 men220 Gameplay Advice needed

Hello fellow undead robots!
I have a small group of friends that I play warhammer with, mostly Combat Patrol until now but some of us have expanded our armies a bit and we can do around 1000 point games now. The problem is, until now I haven't won any game of combat patrol against them, and I would like to turn the situation around when the play the full fledged game. Not saying I need to dominate them but a bit more back and forth and more suspense in the game would be amazing.
I need to clarify it's not necessarily that I think the combat patrol is bad, more that I'm the weak link, and I hope to become a bit more tactical in my play.
Here is my current list of units with some still in transit but should be with me and assembled before our next game day:
-Orikan the Diviner -Overlord with tachyon arrow -Plasmancer -Royal Warden -Skorpekh Lord -Immortals x 5 with Tesla Carbines -Warriors x 10 with 5 of each weapon -Canoptek Doomstalker -Canoptek Reanimator -3x Canoptek Scarab Swam -2x CryptoThralls -2x Lokhust Heavy Destroyers with one weapon each -3x Skorpekh Destroyers
It's basically the combat patrol box, LHVs and Immortals I bought at a con for a bit of a discount, and I ordered the royal court and a royal warden from the official GW website as they were not available at any of the resellers in my country and there's basically no second hand market for Warhammer where I live either so that was the only way of getting a plasmancer, which I personally am a fan of and wanted in my unit.
Since we're playing amongst friends proxying from one type of weapon to another for the immortals, warriors or LHVs won't be a problem since I'll just tell them at the start.
What would be the best way to attach units here and general tips and tricks for playing a Necron army? My friends mainly play Tyranids and Orks, and may have another friend that is thinking of starting a Chaos Demons army.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, including what else I could buy to be viable in the future working towards a 2000p army.

2024.05.15 16:32 Robert_B_Marks In defence of studying Napoleon

Right...there's work being done in my house right now to fix the basement ceiling, and since I don't think I'm getting much else done, I figured I'd share some thoughts on Napoleon.
I've noticed something of an anti-Napoleon bias in World War I scholarship - the argument tends to run something like, "the technology since the Napoleonic wars has advanced so far that studying him is living in the past and ignoring the realities of modern warfare." Having now read several books on Napoleon and his campaigns to research the fiction book that I'll be writing in earnest once my basement ceiling is fixed, I'm inclined to disagree. Studying Napoleon is absolutely worthwhile when it comes to modern warfare, and here's why:
So, as I've discovered, we have a lot to learn from Napoleon. If all you focus on is the muskets and the formations, you miss the forest for the trees.
