I decided to make this community for those, who have a passion and love for the Nier series, especially NieR: Automata. A game, that completely changed my worldview, mind. A masterpiece made by the Platinum Games team, Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe, one of my favorites. Everything I've done since my days on the "nier" community is just a dedication to NieR series. Hello again my fellow Filmmakers! Almost 3 months ago, I submitted a post here talking about my experience for my first time directing a short film. It was my thesis project and a proof of concept for a larger project I hope to make someday soon! Iโ€™ll spare all the details on how shooting went, since I have already made a post dedicated to detailing that adventure. I wanted to give a quick little update on how things have gone since then!
The editing process was long, and there were a lot of things that I definitely had to โ€œfix in postโ€ which made it a challenge, but I am very pleased with how everything turned out! I submitted it to my schoolโ€™s showcase, got accepted into it which already was a huge honor, and the cherry on top is I ended up winning the award for best narrative! I was incredibly stunned and blown away by the positive reception I got. I had sent it to the people who supported my go fund me and shared it with some family and friends, and they all loved it, but of course they did they know me. But to have it reviewed by a board, accepted to a showcase, and then have it receive an award for best narrative was incredibly inspiring!
I hope this doesnโ€™t come off as bragging or anything, Iโ€™m just very excited that my hard work paid off in the end. I have started the process of applying to more film festivals, and begun writing more for what I want the full feature to be, and I canโ€™t wait for the next step in this journey. In the meantime I have recently been offered a job as a second AD for a film being worked on in my area, and shooting resumes shortly!
I love making films, and love being able to share my excitement with a community like this. Thank you to everyone who gave me kind words and advice on my last post, I hope some of you get to see this post as well!

I think a lot of you here already know where I'm going with this. I've been playing Minecraft since middle school, about 2010, and it is by far the subject matter I have the most experience / dedicated hours in. More so than any profession related or unrelated to my major, I have played hundreds of thousands of hours of Minecraft, both modded and unmoded, and, at the end of the day, found myself making less money than either a professional in my chosen field or a professional Minecraft streamer.
this brings me to the main point of my thesis. I think there should be some societal or economic mechanism that allows me to live comfortably in my home, eat everyday, drink clean drinking water, and achieve creative fulfillment while only playing Minecraft. The Marxist Magnum opus dos Capital states that the bourgeoisie will naturally absorb all surplus value that labor creates. I believe I am in this situation right now, as I am in a crappy work from home job where I play Minecraft pretty much 8 hours a day while doing very little and still making a salary.
this setup is as close to a platonic ideal as I could possibly imagine, but it is still crushingly oppressive and deeply depressing that I have to check into work every day and make sure I appear online on Microsoft teams for at least 8 hours. I should be able to set my own hours playing Minecraft, whether it is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. I naturally have a non-cyclical sleep schedule that requires I wake up very late in the day and go to bed very early in the morning. The 9:00 to 5:00 work schedule most employers mandate means I am unfortunately unable to participate due to ableist conditions and have to find third shift jobs to participate in.
this has not been an issue for most of my adult life, but recently, with a lot of jobs in my profession going back to in office positions from WFH remote roles, I have found myself struggling to find gainful employment where I am allowed to play Minecraft for 8 hours a day during my shift and do very little work in my company overall. I'm feeling very stressed out, nervous, anxious, and sometimes even like on a living myself because I am so terrified of what will happen if I am unable to both play Minecraft during the day and pay my rent at the same time. this is led me to do a lot of thinking recently and come up with this thesis. I hope you all like it, because in all likelihood it is my Magnum opus.

I've had ideas kicking around my head for a personal memoir of some sort for a while but hadn't quite figured out how to approach a project like that. I love narrative and historical stories but had know idea how i should organize my thoughts. I doubt my lack of skills and credentials and worry about the administrative process and becoming overwhelmed by research.
So recently I've been desperate for distracting entertainment and was running out of podcasts, audible tokens, and video subscriptions to keep me satiated. I finally decided to get the libby app and it took me two weeks of dragging my feet that culminated in a massive embarrassing public meltdown at the library and civic center this past mothers day weekend. I had forgotten my meds for 5 days in a row bc i hadnt been eating breakfast; taking them without protein gives me about 30 min window before I'm sick for hours. Anyway i was sobbing on the street, hating life contemplating the stacks and stacks of my trauma and family problems, then i got in a huge shouting match with my adopted mom/paternal aunt (who is nearing 75) over the phone and i even hugged a complete stranger. I was feeling pathetic and unaccomplished when i realized I hadn't had my dose of SNRIs in almost a week. Within a couple hours of taking them, I was back to planning my life again, seeking fulfillment in myself and trying to balancing the massive amount of chores in my tiny studio apartment with a healthy dose of hobby crafting- i began mending some clothes I've been meaning to upcycle. I drowned my thoughts in my first libby rental, a fantastic novel called The Four Winds (by the same suthor who wrote The Women).
Last night i finished the audiobook and nearly completed sewing a new band on some old pajama pants around midnight. After listening to an interview with the author and the narrator, i was hungry for more.
I spent the next hour or so down an audiobook browsing rabbithole and then a few minutes on reddit. By this time is was nearly 2 a.m.
I lay in bed, almost ready to drift off when I had a confluence of ideas and just wanted to jot them down before i slept them all away.
I admit I was fueling this whole process with alternating weed and nicotine vapes, which i know is bad practice for my sleep health but I'm having trouble regretting it atm.
In the last few hours, I am so proud to share that I created a thesis/title and 34 essay prompts. I'm amazed with myself. The concept is a series of stories dedicated to various animals, organized by specoes or class, relating personal experiences of hardship to how my fascination with animals has helped me understand and appreciate both my family and society on a larger scale. I hope that makes sense.
Holy shit i just thought of another essay prompt- bees! I'm up to 35!
I'm scheduled to work in 3 hours. Thank goodness i work from home today!!
I have a long way to go to get my shit back together, if it ever was. But today, at least right now, i feel accomplished. I started something. I have hope.

Within my department, there's an opportunity to apply for funded student-led research. I'm currently an undergraduate Math-Econ and International Studies major. I've taken courses in Econ Development/Growth, Intermediate Macro, and Principles. I plan to take Econometrics next fall. I participated in a data competition with two friends who took Econometrics and Forecasting, but they got caught up with their other schoolwork and couldnโ€™t dedicate time, leaving me by myself. Ultimately, I wasn't able to complete the project on my own in time.
I enjoyed the process and used resources about R to help with the regressions, drawing from my experience in an introductory statistics course with an R lab. Additionally, I have a strong interest in my Econ Development/Growth course and am inclined to pursue research with an international focus. I also do want to put myself in a position to pursue Economics on the graduate level, and I would do a senior thesis regardless, but since Iโ€™m graduating a year early because I came in with a lot of credits and wouldnโ€™t have scholarships for the fourth year. I would have a Math and Mathematical Statistics minor as well, so I should have the bare requirements to apply later on math-wise.
My main concern is my limited experience and the absence of a close relationship with professors who could potentially serve as advisors. The professor who would be suitable, my Econ Development/Growth professor, is going on sabbatical. Additionally, my Macro Theory professor will also be my professor for Econometrics next fall. However, I've only had two conversations with him, and those were about registration within the Math-Economics major.
I have two weeks to come up with a proposal and get a faculty advisor since the application is due on May 31st. Would it be worthwhile to reach out to my department chair to inquire about applying for the research opportunity, or should I wait until after completing Econometrics?

Its been such a long time since I have posted here, but probably only here will my sorrow be understood.
I'm working on my thesis right now, and for it I'm interviewing nuns from different congregations. My heart longs for what they have, I cannot tell it otherwise. I feel so warm listening to them talking about they love and devotion for Jesus because I totally understand them, but with a different set of Gods.
I just love so much that they have their communities, that they can devote totally and live for their God and work their apostleship.
And what do I have? Silent, solitary prayer. Never a festival, never a community to share, a temple to worship. Even in their solitude nuns have their sisters and community. I, at most, have only communities in whom I cannot even communicate in my own language.
This is not a rant against any of you! My heart just aches and longs for something we don't have. I would jump the chance to consecrate my life, live with other nuns/priestesses in a temple and dedicate my all to the Gods, just the way catholic nuns can do.
Guess I'll just have to settle for reallity and keep silent prayer and devotion, like catholic consecrated life? But just for myself since there is no community to work for.

Hey DotA2! I have been a long time lurker here, and I have been playing this game for over 8 years now.
Suffice to say, dota has been a big part of my life, from high school to college, and hopefully beyond and I wanted to give it a little thanks.
Inspired by u/Cookie20001030 post https://www.reddit.com/DotA2/s/xV8EkOlw8N I'll be completing my Masters in physics soon, and as I'm writing this post I'm just putting the finishing touches on my thesis. I rarely get the time to play nowadays, but whenever I wanted to let off some steam I'd turn to dota, because there's just something here that no other game has. And even now, I am ecstatic about playing through Crownfall after I wrap everything up. Dota has taught me a lot of skills over the past few years, many of those transferable to both my experiments, and life in general.
In our thesis, we have a dedication page where we could write anything like "Dedicated to...." And I wanted to write something about meaningful or quirky related to dota. Hi,
I currently have two offers of admission โ€” one from the Msc in Physics with Extended Research at Imperial College London and one from the MSc in Physics (Quantum Physics Specialization) at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Both programs have the second year entirely dedicated to research, however, NBI has the option to take two extra classes during this year where I plan on pursuing a line of research in Theoretical High Energy Physics/Cosmology/Astrophysics. Eventually, I hope to continue a PhD afterwards (this is something I really want to do but it's not a 100% certainty).
I am currently, deciding between the two and I'm very confused. Here is where I am stuck:
Imperial: Pros I know Imperial has a much larger name and "brand value" per say. As a result, I am sure (with some conversation with my advisor) the rec letters from Imperial will hold a larger weight for future applications. Also, because of its name it has professors/research groups with much higher international recognition allowing me to get access to a lot of new and exciting research at the frontier. My advisor also knows a lot of faculty at Imperial, which can help me network with them and increase my chances of getting into a good group for my master's thesis. London is also a very central city and is a melting point for cultures, experiences and I absolutely loved the city when I went there for a vacation. Imperial: Cons The courses available to you for the first year seem kind of limited. My initial choice was the Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces courses, however, I was offered admission into this program instead. To overcome this, I was thinking I could just try and take the courses that interested me in that program to fill up my electives but I'm not sure how the course structure works at Imperial. Also, UK does not seem like the best place to be right now in terms of its economy and job market as an international student and if I decide not to go to grad school I don't know how safe it would be.
NBI: Pros The course structure is amazing at the college. I can take lots of classes across a wide variety of topics, allowing me to gain breadth and depth. Additionally, their classes are taught in a very unique way with finals conducted in an oral test rather than periodic exams. I spoke to someone in the program and they genuinely believed that it helped them learn more about the subject. Lastly, the European lifestyle and access to so many other countries (with the visa) will genuinely seem like a very enjoyable time. While my focus is to study on Physics, I think it would be very healthy for me experience the European lifestyle and culture. NBI: Cons It does not have as much of a name/international recognition. Most of the research areas are quite similar to that of Imperial but they are not as well-established. I also don't know how easily it would be for an international student to fully assimilate into Copenhagen and the EU culture.
I know I shouldn't be concerned with name value but after speaking to my advisor and other industry professionals they all agreed that a degree (and doing research) with a place from a high brand value definitely holds some weight regardless of PhD program applications or industry jobs. However, I also enjoy a lot of the other features that NBI offers and don't want to ignore those.
Could someone please give me some advice on things I should consider and help me come closer to a decision? Also, if someone is from anyone of these programs I would greatly appreciate if would reach other and give some information.

2024.05.12 16:19 lazyactor Constructing a mixup.

I am by no means the arbiter of Tekken but as I have played 2176 battles ive noticed a lot of people are getting jabbed out of there "mixups"
So short an sweet guide on how you can construct your mixups in the lab.
99% of moves are 10 frames fast so we will be using that as the base target speed to beat.
I used to main Heihachi and now I play Reina so I will use what I know best to construct my examples. My example below come directly from how I used to play Heihachi.
A true mixup situation is when either player has put the other into a state of disadvantage so severe they have no option but to block and guess, This is accomplished by using your positive frames or +frames to know which moves you have that will be safe to use without fear of interruption.
If your opponent can step your options or back dash away then even if you are at plus frames its not a coin flip its a rock paper scissors contest. Ideally for easy of application you seek to remove movement as an option an try to make them guess mid, low, plus frame reset situation or different mixup. Once stepping is involved you have to find moves that counter that to or your mixup will always have a glaring weakness that prevents its use in high level play.
When constructing your mix up you want to generally start checking its frames by having the opponent first jab ASAP after your mixup is applied and going through each option and noting which moves you can apply without getting jab interupted.
Its also a good idea to do the same things with the down jab or "dick jab" This high crushing fast special mid is the bane of many players mixups online. You definitely want to check to make sure they get countered when using it or what your options are to deal with someone shutting down your pressure with it.
You also need to account for movement options, most characters have powerful mid or low mixups and stances that crumble with movement.
As a base line most people agree 4 frames of a gap is enough to use movement to possibly avoid pressure. Some characters are better at movement than others so this requires so trial and error in real play against varied opponents to really hammer out, or a few hours in the lab with smallest girl characters and then special annoying ones like Ling who can use a stance to enhance a stepping animation.
I will now go through step by step how I created a simple mixup an checked if it was frame solid in most matchups. Once you understand all the little details of how to check the frames and what to check them against it will be easy to do.
Reina has a powerful 18-19 frame startup mid, f4 while slow leaves the defender in crouch at -2 disadvantage.
The fastest option from crouch is the crouch jab at 10 frames fast and special mid. Special mid means that if I duck I still block the mid. its not that important.
What is important is understanding that they will not return to standing during the attack and if they were standing they will crouch under most of your high options even if your high is faster than 10 frames when you are at advantage pressing your mixup. Not in every scenario but enough that you need to check it out yourself.
so my best option to beat a special mid when my move will at least trade with it is a strong mid.
Reina just so happens to have a 12frame wallsplatting mid in 1+2 that hit quite hard compared to a crouching jab.
12 - 10 = 2 the exact amount of frames the defender will be delayed by if they choose to push buttons instead of blocking.
If we both input our moves as fast as we possibly can they will both trade an it results in a favorable trade for the attacker.
To consider an option part of your mixup its need to at least trade in your favor with their fastest option.
1+2 is what I use to start every new match when I force them to block f4. Based on what happens here I determine how to mix them up later.
So we have a move that we know is fast enough to stop aggression but what about back dashing and side stepping.
In practice mode and against a few highly skilled players I discovered that side stepping either direction but generally my left resulted in an easy launch for the opponent.
To counter movement I would need plus frames of around 5.
I can jab since its faster if I suspect they will move, that would be a 4 frames of advantage just 1 shy of the 5 for most matchups. but most can still step a jab in that situation and a crouching jab shuts it down and leaves you -8 ish if you get hit by it. Forcing you to guess low or mid. Not ideal.
so instead I would rely on either a grab that is 12 frames to track the step and or I would step with them and either jab or f4.
The reason a grab is fine is it tracks to both side right now, if this changes my mixup has to change to.
I can also step and f4 as fast as possible, this exploits the weakness of a jab which is how easy you can step it. If they did crouch jab they are crouching and f4 has follow-up's which it lands on Croucher's.
Dont be afraid to consider moving yourself to avoid linear attacks and punish the opponent from trying to mash out.
However im moving before I attack and I am also open to counter hit moves using such a slow move after movement.
So in no way is this a true mixup, an example would be whenever you land a heat engager. Most heat engagers leave you point blank range at +17 frames. You can write a thesis with that amount of frames, most people know by trial and error that there is no hope of interrupting even some of your slowest moves.
A clear example that everyone has to know now is Eddie, Eddy has easy to land plus frame moves and punishes that leave him at major advantage in stance.
His low option is to fast to interrupt and tracks both sides.
His mid option is to fast to interrupt and launches.
Low can be blocked and launched.
Mid is -13.
other options are string with highs in them so I dont include such risky moves in a mixup.
Stepping isnt really an option because most of the time you are guessing at -6 frames, and the low option tracks both sides.
However this is a weak mixup and risky compared to the first example. because every time you guess right you get to hurt eddie and apply pressure yourself.
Many examples of different mixups and the characters vary in how strong they are, I firmly believe that for those dedicated enough you can find unique mixups no one uses online because no one has labbed all the crazy options in the move list.
In closing, I tried to make it as clear and easy to follow my logic as possible, let me know if anything needs more detail or clarification. I might also try and make a youtube video I will link later with live examples.
TLDR: constructing a mixup requires you to identify situations where you can use your fastest moves to force defensive behavior or damaging them for pressing buttons. You have to make sure you get into situations where crouching jabs at the minimum cant interrupt your options. Anything slower than that can be applied in the mixup is but shouldn't be your main option to check your opponent.
Extra tip: you can apply mixups anytime you land moves as long as you know how many plus frames you get on hit.
Take the plus frames on hit and minus them from the startup frames of your moves to see if you can get sub 10 frames.
Df1,1 is +7-8 on hit, I can use f4 but jabs beat it out in this situation, so after landing df1,1 I know I can enforce pressure and defense by doing a move like d2, which is 15 frames and wont be interrupted and has reward for counter hitting.

I use two different computers at my school. One is in an editing lab/classroom, and it runs the latest version of Premiere. The second one is in a private room dedicated to seniors. It's an older computer, so it runs an older version of Premiere (23.3), but I've been able to find a tool that converts project files for me, so I can easily switch between the two computers. And, every time I switch computers, I save a new copy of the project. I've been doing this for the past few weeks, and I haven't had any trouble moving between computers (if that's even the cause).
I was working on the first computer Thursday night, but then other people started using the room, and it was getting too noisy for me to focus, so at around midnight, I switched to the second computer. I still have a project file from midnight, but I was working on the second computer for about 10 hours. I should have another save file from any time between 12:00 am and 10:00 am, but I don't. The project file is just... gone??
I checked the auto-save folder to make sure I didn't just somehow forget to hit save for 10 hours (I'm super paranoid about Premiere crashing, so I'm constantly saving my project during the editing process), but it isn't there. I checked the hidden trash folder in my external SSD just to make sure that I didn't accidentally delete it for some reason, but it isn't in there either.
I still have the cache files, so I at least know I haven't gotten my days mixed up.
The project is my thesis film that's due later this week. I don't want to redo 10 hours of work, but I don't know what else to do.

Adi Shankara, also known as Shankaracharya, is a remarkable Saint who gives a new meaning to the word โ€œefficiency.โ€
He advanced the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, was a distinguished teacher, developed exceptional disciples, organized the Ten Orders of Sannyasa which are still in existence today, and wrote profound spiritual hymns for all of the deities!
A single thread of Dharma (His ideal of perfection) weaved through all of His actions, keeping Him focused on advancing Hinduism as He paved the way for the rest of us.
Whether we realize it or not, this great Sage has touched each and every one of us.
Shankarachya as an Enlightened Philosopher propounded Advaita Vedanta Philosophy. The core of Advaita Vedanta is the recognition of the unity of the Atman (the individual soul) with Brahman (the Supreme Divine Consciousness beyond all attributes). Shankaracharya was the first to consolidate the siddhฤnta (the โ€œdoctrineโ€) of Advaita Vedanta.
The word โ€œadvaitaโ€ means non-duality or no duality, and is often called a monistic system of thought.
It essentially refers to the identity of the Self or Soul (Atman) with the Whole of Creation, or the Universal Consciousness (Brahman).
Advaita Vedanta says that the one Unchanging Entity (Brahman) alone exists as the one reality and that changing entities do not have absolute existence.
This is much the same as the oceanโ€™s waves, which have no existence separate from the ocean.
Advaita Vedanta can be summed up in this simple, yet sacred wisdom:
The world changes. Therefore, it is not Truth. It is an illusion of Truth. Just as when seeing a coiled rope, we mistakenly feel a sense of apprehension thinking that it may be a snake. In the same way, when we see the material world, we mistake it for reality.
When we realize that the rope is actually not a snake, we feel reprieve. In the same way, when we see that the material world is not Eternal, we realize God.
Shankaracharya as an Inspiring Leader conducted a Dig-vijaya (โ€œtour of conquestโ€) for the propagation of Advaita Philosophy by debating all philosophies opposed to it.
He travelled throughout India, from South India to Kashmir and Nepal, preaching to the local populace and debating philosophy with Hindu, Buddhist, and other scholars and monks along the way.
Often He debated with the provision that the loser of the debates would become the disciple of the victor!
Of course, Shankaracharya won all the debates, because every religious philosopher was bound to agree with His initial thesis:
โ€œBrahma satyam jagat mithyฤ, jฤซvo brahmaiva nฤ parahโ€
โ€œGod is the only truth, and the world which is perceived in time and space is false, an illusion, because it keeps on changing.
There is ultimately no difference between Brahman, the Supreme Divinity, and Atman, the individual soul.โ€
Once He could gain agreement to this initial thesis, all further debate was rendered useless discussion about transient phenomena in a temporary world of manifested existence, because only God is the Enduring Truth.
In this way He gathered His disciples, most prominent amongst which was: Hastฤmalakฤcฤrya, Sureล›varฤcฤrya, Padmapฤdฤcฤrya, and Totakฤcฤrya.
He established monasteries in the North, South, East and West of India, all promoting this one principle teaching of Vedanta.
In the North He established Jyotirmatha Pฤซtham under the direction of Totakฤcฤrya.
In the South He established ลšฤrada Pฤซtham under the direction of Sureล›varฤcฤrya.
In the East He established Govardhana Pฤซtham under the direction of Hastฤmalakฤcฤrya.
In the West He established Dvฤraka Pฤซtham under the direction of Padmapฤdฤcฤrya.
In doing so, He united all of India and infused it with Sanskrit culture.
Shankaracharya as a Distinguished Teacher proclaimed that from the four Vedas came forth four Mahฤvฤkyas, which are simple statements that explain the True Knowledge of non-duality:
โ€ข From the Rig Veda: โ€œPrajnanam Brahmaโ€ โ€“ The Wisdom of Nature is God โ€ข From the Yajur Veda: โ€œTattvamasiโ€ โ€“ That is You โ€ข From the Atharva Veda: โ€œAyamatma Brahmaโ€ โ€“ This Soul is God โ€ข From the Sama Veda: โ€œAham Brahmasmiโ€ โ€“ I am the Supreme Divinity
He authored devotional hymns to many of the Hindu deities, even while demonstrating devotion to His family. In order to promote unity among the various Hindu sects of those times, He wrote stotrams for each of the prime deities: Shiva, Shakti, Vishnu, Ganesh, and Surya.
The idea was that if you believe in God, you could chant any stotram, recognizing that Divinity resides in every form. Most of His songs were full of devotion to the principles of Vedanta and filled with humility and love for God:
โ€œI am not the mind, nor the intellect, neither the ego nor the perceptions of Consciousness. I have no friend nor any comrade, neither a guru nor a disciple. I am the form of the Bliss of Consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.โ€
โ€œI know nothing about meritorious behavior, nothing about spiritual pilgrimages, nothing about liberation, dissolution or any such matters. I know nothing about devotion, worship, or dedication to the Divine Mother. But Oh Divine Mother, you are my sole support, you are my sole support, and I take refuge in you alone.โ€
Shankaracharya wrote the Vivekacลซdฤmani, Prasthanatrayi, which are Bhashyas, or commentaries, on the ten major Upanishads, the Brahma Sutras, and the Bhagavad Gita.
In addition, He wrote famous devotional compositions such as Bhaja Govindam, in praise of Lord Krishna, a form of Vishnu; the Shivanandalahari, a devotional hymn in praise of Lord Shiva; the Soundarya Lahari, Gurustotram, Ganesha Pancharathnam, Lalitha Pancharathnam, Upadeล›asฤhasrฤซ, and commentaries on various scriptures.
Shankaracharya as an Efficient Organizer, established the orders of Dasnami Sannyasis (ten orders of Sannyasa), according to the differing attributes of the various tribes:

  2. Giri โ€“ Live in the Mountains
  3. Puri โ€“ Live in Cities
  4. Saraswati โ€“ Scholars
  5. Van โ€“ Live in Forests

  9. Sagar โ€“ Live at the Ocean

From Shankaracharya I learned that the one Supreme Brahman, which is beyond all duality, is the absolute supreme goal. I learned to live with an understanding of the presence of Maya, as the illusion, which obscures that reality. Even though I can strive to realize that Supreme Beyond Manifestation, there is no contradiction in losing myself in devotion for all the branches of Divinity.
The purpose of religion is to remove all the walls, destroy the barriers, boundaries, which keep us bound by the Maya of attachments and identification. I can celebrate the different forms of religion without compromising the sincerity of my devotion. Like Shankaracharya, I also have written commentaries, translations, original hymns in various languages, for all the deities of Hinduism. Like Shankaracharya, I also have tried to share the majesty of non-duality, through sadhana with wisdom and devotion.
Behind the Temple at Badrinath is a shrine where Shankaracharya used to meditate. I used to sit in front of that shrine on a regular basis, for long periods of time. I had visited that shrine nine years in a row, and stayed for periods ranging from two weeks to two months. One day when I was in deep meditation, I saw a vision of Shankaracharya, and he spoke to me, saying: โ€œNo one can stay on top of the mountain. Either they do not find that for which they are searching, and they are required to return to care for the needs of the body; or they do find that for which they were searching, and they are required to return to share! Now is the time for you to return. You are authorized to teach!โ€

2024.05.11 20:50 Bbzita2019 Should I still pursue this career?

Hello everyone, Iโ€™m having doubts if Iโ€™m โ€œgood enoughโ€ to be an architect.
I graduated last year with a Bachelorโ€™s in Architecture from a very good University (Europe). Despite the long hours, the lack of free time and the constant stress I liked the career.
What makes me really insecure is that my projects grades were either very good or very bad (both group and individual projects like my thesis). Because of this my overall Bachelor grade is only โ€œsatisfactoryโ€. This held me back a bit to find an internship directly after graduating.
Some peers also mentioned they donโ€™t see me as an architect, rather as an interior architect or landscape architect + an old architect boss I had when I did a school internship said I was not fit to be an architect.
Iโ€™ve dedicated myself to architecture 110% but I donโ€™t love my results. On top of that itโ€™s said that the working culture is extremely tough with little pay and limited creativity.
All of this makes me rethink if I should maybe pursue an interior architecture master or leave this field and do UX design?

As I'm filling out my application I realize the one thing I haven't exactly done is create any sort of school list apart from some "state" schools. Would love help creating a list of about 40 schools based on my stats. So here it goes
School list so far: nearly every school in both NY and Florida (gotta get what I can state wise I suppose) UCF, USF, UF, FSU, Hofstra, Stonybrook, LECOM, Nova, Albany, Buffalo, NYIT, CUNY, upsate, downstate, ichann, (probably only waste my money on others if I really did much better on the MCAT than my average the rest of these schools are just schools i picked that make somewhat sense to me as reaches and what not near where I'd like to be), Ohio State, Pitt (brother goes there for law), Cincinnati, Boston, Wisconsin, Umass, wake forest, tufts, Uconn, Rutgers, temple, Hackensack, Drexel, Quinnipiac, looking to add around 10 or so more of "safety"/ reaches

To begin with, it is easy to admit that handwritten instruction in schools is not necessary in the digital age.
In the classroom, traditional writing has been โ€œswapped for keyboardsโ€ and โ€œblocking cursorsโ€ while โ€œsome teachers believe that cursive is archaic and that students should be prepared for more contemporary communicationโ€ ( Source A ) so that they may โ€œ become better writers as handwritten instruction takes up less of their education ( Source C ), for this type of instruction is only emphasized inside the classroom and โ€œthe move outside our schools, and in innovative schools, is toward technology.โ€ ( Source A )
This evidence confirms that cursive is not necessary in todayโ€™s educational programs because of the need to instead prioritize how the majority of our communication is done.
However, since handwritten instruction is not just made up of cursive, and benefits of it can still be achieved without having to dedicate the time to learning cursive, handwritten instruction should still have a place in school.

Unlike the former point, handwritten instruction ( such as print ) has a place in schooling because of the cognitive benefits developed when taught compared to fully transitioning to only teaching forms of modern communication. When it comes to the opposition of handwritten instruction, most people focus on the cursive part of the argument as if handwriting consisted of just cursive and not the printed word as well. Both give cognitive benefits to whomever is taught it, but only one is necessary to be taught to receive the enhancements.
For example, โ€œ Because handwriting is a complex skill that involves both cognitive and fine motor skills, direct instruction is required to learn handwriting ( it is not good enough to just give a workbook to students and hope for the best. However, the result of good instruction is that students are benefited in their cognitive development and fine motor skills.โ€ Specifically, when taking handwritten notes students more effectively retain information, comprehend the content, and have more focus during lectures compared to students who took notes on a computer. They are also less likely to โ€œ...have problems retrieving letters from memory; spelling accurately, extracting meaning from a text or lecture, and interpreting the context of words and phrases.โ€ As well as expressing more ideas and writing longer compositions. This evidence supports that handwritten instruction should still have a place in schooling due to the cognitive benefits because it illustrates what benefits are present in students when they are exposed to handwritten instruction as opposed to disadvantages when they are not.
Consequently, since students are put in an advantageous position in contrast to those who rely on writing on keyboards, educators should consider whether prioritizing the focus on the digital age is actually hindering the educational progression of their students. Therefore, Handwritten instruction should be a part of the learning experience due to the fact that its absence would decrease the quality of their education.

In a similar manner, the relevance of handwritten instruction in daily activities ( specifically in schooling ), has made it necessary to still be taught in school. The data โ€œof a 2013 survey of 450 elementary school teachers that asked how much of their time students spent on writing on paper and how much of their time they spent using technologyโ€ concluded students spent the majority of their time writing on paper compared to using technology and as you move up in the education system you see that over time they use less and less of technology in contrast to using paper. This evidence proves that handwritten instruction is relevant enough to be taught because of how much students still use it. Consequently, since the usage of handwritten instruction is still relevant in the lives of students, it should not be removed from their education. Equally important is the usage of handwriting where technology isnโ€™t accessible or an option. Solar flares, simply not having access to an internet connection due to circumstance, or even knowing that technology is not inherently secure ( data can be sold, obtained, or silenced ) can make it so that you cannot type what you want to express. Having the ability to write on paper allows you to have access to a written of communication even in these scenarios. Therefore, being taught how to write by hand gives you an alternative in an ever-changing world where you cannot control or know what will happen next.
another note : i know itโ€™s pretty bad. my commentary should be more developed and link back to my thesis, but i would like someoneโ€™s advice on what and how i could do better.
