2024.05.16 13:30 Large-Wheel-4181 The Zero Point (Fortnite) vs The Entity (Dead By Daylight) [Theme, Connections, Contrast, etc.]

The Zero Point (Fortnite) vs The Entity (Dead By Daylight) [Theme, Connections, Contrast, etc.]
Core Theme:
•Powerful deities that manipulate realities for their own reasons, while all beings are simply playthings to them
Connections
•Powerful Multiversal Cosmic Beings that take various people from different universes (With Zero Point doing it to free itself from the Imagined Order aka IO after they forced Zero Point to take Loopers to The Island/ The Entity gathers up Killers and Survivors in order to feast on their emotions in various ways with it forcing them to participate in a hunt)
•They not only have the ability to buff or nerf characters they have taken but also have their powers and abilities shared among others within their worlds
•They do have organizations that assist them (Zero Point has The Seven who seem to protect it to prevent everything otherwise everything will end/ The Black Vale however worship The Entity as a God Like being and manipulated some events to gather, in some cases create, killers and survivors for The Entity itself while also battling The Imperiatti to prevent them from stopping The Entity.
•Despite their god like power they have to deal with an organization that wants to destroy or control them (The IO /The Imperiatti)
•They are responsible for creating realities that the games take place in. (Zero Point simply created the realities/ The Entity however creates new realities based on the memories of all it consumes as it goes around invading other realities)
•They have assembled a roster of characters including ones from movies, tv shows and video games
•They even have captured celebrities (Marshmello/ Nicholas Cage)
•There’s seasonal events that occur where they change up the formula on how their games will function
•Despite their original gamestyle origins they are continuing to spread into new realms. Like for example: (Racing/RPG)
•Both have even brought in Slipknot into their worlds
•Both include a shooter element within their worlds where players have to combat against various threats (Fortnite this is base, but for Dead By Daylight this is expanded on with games What The Fog and Project T)
•Both worlds feature various characters (Originals and guests) that have traveled into their realm and have seemed to either protect or control the deities
Contrasts:
•Zero Point is definitely more of a world of fun while The Entity is all about suffering even beyond death itself.
•The Zero Point isn’t as active in it’s world while The Entity is constantly active all throughout itself whether it be assisting or hindering all throughout and even toying with everyone in it’s own way just to feed off emotions
Animation/Fight Potential:
•This could easily qualify as a Season Finale so it could definitely be a 3D all throughout or at the very least just the simiple characters are 3D while the background and deities are 3D. As for the fight, that could go back and forth between the deities making moves against one another while having moments of characters fighting one another only to then revive and go back at it. The Entity would definitely be the invading force while the Zero Point would be one the defense. Though knowing The Entity’s methods it would appear to do an invasion but in reality be trying to find a way around or working towards slowly corrupting The Zero Point itself.
•Important Things to note between the characters interacting is that while Fortnite characters can build items, killers can destroy breakable objects in 1-2 hits. Also why killers can’t die under the Entity’s rule, they do still feel pain and can be stunned. Plus Killers could act more like generals while The Thrall (beings that will be introduced in DBD’s Project T) can act as the foot soldiers.
Music Track
•Kind of tricky to pinpoint if there can be one particular type of music that could work for it as it could go back and forth between comical for Fortnite while intense for Dead By Daylight though I could see a possible vocal track also being used for it as well
Debatably
•At first it would seem like Zero Point has this based on defeating Galactus however it didn’t kill Galactus it just sent him away, which is definitely an important factor in death battle since it’s a battle to the death. With Galactus that was also a direct attack which is very different than how The Entity attacks which usually is slow and calculated attacks with the goals of corrupting and absorbing universes. Plus The Entity is stated to feed off all the emotions of individuals within it’s realms which probably means the Zero Point would have to find a way to eliminate all of those emotions in The Entity’s realm to erase it from existence. This looking to be a power vs hax type of MU the more and more I look into them. As for who wins, it’s actually looking hard to tell as of right now.

2024.05.16 13:23 Kitsunara_ Help to type socionics

Hello guys, I've been trying to typify myself but I always identify with different functions and maybe my compression is not the best in the subject.
I'm a girl and I'm 21 years old, English is not my main language so sorry for any mistakes.
Section 1
How do you work? Why do people go to work? Are there any parameters that determine whether you can do work or not? What are they?
I work because I have no choice, that's how the world I was born is and that's how I'm going to live, I admire those who try to change the course of things like a superhero but I'm a mere citizen.
Because people have dreams and goals and they can't achieve what they want without money unless they're lucky enough to be born into an elite family, if so they won the lucky roulette wheel of life.
I don't work well in heavy environments, I survived only 1 day in a factory because a woman keep screaming at me, everyone tried to convince me to try harder but I was feeling to overwhelmed.
How do you determine the quality of work? How do you determine the quality of a purchase? Do you pay any attention to it
Result.
I'm a bit picky with the quality of my stuff, especially the fabric of my clothes. It's because of comfort but also for aesthetics.
There is a professional next to you. How do you know they are a professional? How do you evaluate their skill?
They get the job done on time and well done. I don't think there's only one way to do things, we are all taught in a certain way but then we also adapt, we end up creating our own way of doing things that work for us.
If you struggle to do something, how do you fix that? Do you know if your performance is better or worse than others?
It depends, I usually learn by trying until it works but I can't always use this technique so I seek tutorials or ask for help.
Definitely, I'm very paranoid about my job, I hate feeling incompetent. If I have the conditions and knowledge to take the initiative to do something at work, I'll do it, but if I'm insecure then I'd rather stay quiet I don't want to mess things up.
How do you measure the success of a job? What standard do you use? Do you pay attention to it? When should you deviate from this standard?
I like easy jobs, constant stress is not for me. Easy, the money, the free time I will have, the responsibilities (few I expect) and the effort.
Section 2
What is a whole? Can you identify its parts? Are the parts equivalent to the whole?
I'm so confused, am I supposed to give a definition or come out with some abstract sentence?
What does "logical" mean? What is your understanding? Do you think that it correlates with the common view? How do you know you are being logical?
Logic to me is something that makes sense, when your actions and words are coherent and when you take into account all the factors to make a correct decision. Contrary to what the Alphas may believe, Logic is not coldness, in fact, to be completely logical you have to take the emotions of others and your own into account, otherwise you are just emotionally unavailable. For example, killing half the population just because someone killed your cat is not logical, you're actually being driven just by emotions.
What is hierarchy? Give examples of hierarchies. Do you need to follow it? Why or why not? Explain how hierarchy is used in a system you are familiar with.
In short, it's when you're on the first floor and need to climb the stairs to get to the second, you may be able to pay someone to build an elevator to get up there faster, or you can't afford it and you have to overcome all the conditions, shortness of breath, pain in your legs, the stairs that are old and falling apart...
Hierarchy is something natural and will always exist, no matter how much you hate it, the world is not a fair place and there will always be someone eating fried chicken in a lamborghini at the expense of a child who makes clothes for shein.
If you're ambitious you have to do it, but if you're like me who just want to have money to live a "basic life", then you don't need to climb so many stairs, just the necessary ones.
What is classification? How does classification work? Why is it needed and where is it applied? Give examples.**
Is when you take a product, tangible or not (e.g. a bread or skills) and give it a certain punctuation/category according to certain requirements.
Obviously, imagine that you built a building made of toothpicks (product) that would collapse 1 minute after being exposed to the wind because no one had the brilliant idea to take into account the meteorological conditions (requirement)
Are your ideas consistent? How do you know they are consistent? How do you spot inconsistency in others' ideas?
I'm usually an introspective person, so even when my ideas are incoherent I think about them at some point and "correct" the incoherence, unless I'm really emotional I think that during those moments no one is coherent.
Yes, but I usually prefer to keep quiet if it's none of my business.
Section 3
Can you press people? What methods do you use? How does it happen?
Usually no, first of all I don't like to force anyone to do anything because I don't like to be forced either, second that I'm not good at forcing people especially strangers and it's the main reason to have been bullied and still have problems with people walking over me.
What I do is that I tell the advantages of doing something the way I want or admit that it would be convenient for me.
What can happen is when I do something for a person over and over again and they never reciprocate, and there is when I can be a manipulative and childish (passive-agressive)
How do you deal with opposition? What methods do you use to defend your interests?
It depends on the situation, I react badly if it's the example I gave earlier. If someone starts trying to control me indirectly, I can react two ways, or I play dumb for the sake of peace or the manipulation goes directly against my interests and in that case I walk away (with strangers) or protest (people close to me).
When do you think it's ok to occupy someone's space? Do you recognize it?
When they occupy yours is the only situation I can think of right now.
Do others think you are a strong-willed person? Do you think you have a strong will?
I don't know what others think.
It depends if it's about something I'm sure I want, for example a lot of people say I'm crazy for wanting to leave the country but I made that choice for myself and that's what I'm going to do, if I don't change my mind until then (which usually doesn't happen). Otherwise I think I can be seen as lazy, I need a very strong motivation that comes from myself.
How do you satisfy your physical senses? What examples can you give? What physical experiences are you drawn to?
I really like hot baths and pleasant smells. I'm a bit paranoid about my own smell, I'm always putting on deodorant for example.
On the other hand I'm not very good with my internal health, I have to force myself to remember to drink water and food is optional, I don't usually eat breakfast and especially at work I only eat salty snacks or soup most time. I tend to eat more when I want to be greedy or have food available, if I have to do it then I don't eat or I make something simple. I have a friend who judges me for it (I think she has strong Si).
I like some extreme activities, for example I've done canoeing which I loved and every summer I go to the scariest carousels at the fair, I feel free.
How do you find harmony with your environment? How do you build a harmonious environment? What happens if this harmony is disturbed?
I like quiet environments where everyone is genuinely fine and not pretending, so if any of my friends are feeling bad I try to help them. I also like to go to beautiful places with friends or alone like organize a picnic, go to a waterfall...
What does comfort mean to you? How do you create it?
Being in a place alone where I don't need to be anxious all the time, where I can let my guard down, eat sushi while listening to the sound of the rain in warm pajamas and under my blanket creating some fake scenario on my head.
How do you express yourself in your hobbies? How do you engage yourself with those things?
When I was a kid I tried to start playing piano but I dind't last long because It requires a long time to get results and I didn't want to practice at home. I prefer simpler hobbies without commitments, for example playing video games, painting, reading books, and trying new hobbies.
I'd really like to start trying to go to craft classes, but short classes to then be able to try another one until maybe I find one that suits me.
Tell us how you'd design any room, house or an office. Do you do it yourself, or trust someone else to do it? Why?
If I had the money I would call someone to take care of the big part, I would tell them exactly what I want, then I would just take care of the details.
Is it acceptable to express emotions in public? Give examples of inappropriate expression of emotions
That's not a question of being acceptable or not, emotions can't always be controlled, you never know what someone is going through behind the scenes.
But I admit that I prefer people who don't show emotions in an dramatic way, for example in my work there are a lot of people who start screaming and who are clearly exaggerating and I have to control myself not to laugh.
I'm mostly touched by people who are more reserved with their emotions because I identify with them.
How do you express your emotions? Can you tell how your expressions affect others in a positive or negative way?
I never had emotional support so I like to deal with my emotions alone.
I don't know if I consider myself a very emotional person , I have my moments where I start crying for many different reasons because I kept a lot of things inside me, I also have days where I'm in a very bad mood without knowing why and I start being mean to close people.
I'm a very private person, I don't like exaggerated demonstrations, a lot of "i love you" and compliments make me bored and seem fake.
Are you able to change your demeanor in order to interact with your environment in a more or less suitable way? How do you determine what is suitable?
These questions make me think that I don't know myself that well.
I think so, I know how to dress up and not talk about inappropriate things even if I make some mistakes, like smiling in the middle of a funeral because my colleague told a joke or showing involuntary annoyance when someone try to do a lot of small talk with me.
In what situations do you feel others' feelings? Can you give examples of when you wanted to improve the mood of others?
I am fickle in many aspects of my life, empathy is one of them, sometimes I have a lot and sometimes I don't have any. It really depends on my relationship with people and how much I like their personality. I'm very suspicious of other people's motives.
My father doesn't usually cry a lot and he's not manipulative at all. I suspect he's a Lse or sli, so when he cries I know it's real and it affects me, in other hand my mother is manipulative and when she starts crying I always think it's fake or that she deserves it (maybe she is a iei).
Section 6
How can you tell how much emotional space there is between yourself and others? How can you affect this space?
Complicated, I wouldn't say I'm completely blind to how others feel about me, but I'm definitely very pessimistic and because of that I like to be reassured about what my loved ones think about me.
I'm very suspicious of others and sometimes I start overthinking that everyone hates me or wants to hurt me. As soon as a friend has a more negative reaction, sometimes because of their own problems that have nothing to do with me, I get hurt or I start trying to guess what they are thinking about me and as you can imagine it's almost always negative. Although now I'm starting to try to be less negative because you never know what others are thinking or feeling.
How do you determine how much you like or dislike someone else? How does this affect your relationships?
By personality, values, way of seeing the world, I like people I identify whit and I can trust. People with character that I consider dubious I try to not interact.
I have a very small group because I have a set pattern, at the same time they are different obviously but what unites us is that we are all very open-minded and we don't like to meddle in other people's lives.
How do you move from a distant relationship to a close one? What are the distinguishing characteristics of a close relationship?
We start talking, I like what they are about and it's that simple. Sometimes it takes me 3 months to consider someone a friend, other times I only see the person 3 times and I already know I can trust them.
It has happened once that I stayed in a "friendship" because I wanted company at school, but I stopped seeing him as a friend and started seeing him as an acquaintance.
How do you know that you are a moral person? Where do you draw your morality from? Do you believe others should share your beliefs on what's moral? Why?
I am a moral person in my own criteria. There are people who follow the morality of religion, others follow the morality of a group... Some of them I consider wrong and stupid, but I just don't make friends with these people and it's as simple as that.
The only thing that everyone should do is to respect others because it made life easier for everyone and it's such a simple thing if everyone does it.
Someone you care about is acting distant to you. How do you know when this attitude is a reflection of your relationship?
I don't know, it depends on the situation.
But I try not to take it personally (don't mean that I don't take it, on the contrary but I try to suppress it). What I do is that I ask what happened or i leave them alone. I don't like is chasing after others so I've ended friendships without knowing why, the person just stops talking to me and I take that as a sign.
Section 7
How can you tell someone has the potential to be a successful person? What qualities make a successful person and why?
I would say that one of the things is to have the ability to always be ahead of others, to have that special touch that some people have.
Where would you start when looking for a new hobby? How do you find new opportunities and how do you choose which would be best?
I already have ideas of hobbys that I want to try, so I would look in my internal library and choose the one that I felt like doing. I like manual and simple activities (I'm not an artist) I've done canoeing and I don't hate extreme activities, but I don't think it's considered a hobby and I don't know if I would do it that often either.
How do you interpret the following statement: "Ideas don't need to be feasible in order to be worthwhile." Do you agree or disagree, and why?
Ideas have to start somewhere, at first they may not make sense, but then when more ideas come up and they are molded, they can become a possibility. Or maybe people just want to come up with crazy ideas and that's okay too.
Describe your thought process when relating the following ideas: swimming, chicken, sciences. Do you think that others would draw the same or different connections?
I didn't make any connection, unlike the guy I took this questionnaire from. I just read the sentences and nothing else.
How would you summarize the qualities that are essential to who you are? What kind of potential in you has yet to be actualized and why?
The part that I fear the most, having to describe myself even more with qualities (gives me the impression that I'm bragging). This is going to feel more like a list than a text, sorry for the disappointment. I'm faithful, I like to make people's lives easier (if they haven't done me wrong), I strive to do what I promised, I hate being in debt.
I definitely have to improve my charisma and try to get along with new people more until I get used to it and don't get so bored.
Section 8
How do people change? Can you describe how various events change people? Can others see those changes?
Everything changes people, the personality you have today was the result of all the moments of your life and also of your brain (parts more or less developed and this also affects).
We're always changing every day, it's just that we're so used to the changes that sometimes we don't even notice it.
Sometimes I go through a similar situation that has happened before and I see how much I have changed in the way I deal with the problem.
How do you feel and experience time? Can time be wasted? How?
I think time is the most powerfyl weapon, you learn to deal with things with time, time brings peace but also chaos, time makes life evolve both positively and negatively, time kills you but also brings life. Time is truly the most important thing there is, when a certain moment passes you can no longer go back and fix things.
It all depends on the point of view, today you can consider it something important but later you see that it was a waste of time, the important thing to keep in mind is to think about the future because what has already happened cannot be changed.
Is there anything that cannot be described with words? What is it? If so, how can we understand what it is if language does not work?
Language is limiting, you can indulge feelings in others through sentences but you are never sure how others will interpret it.
I would say feelings and experience is one of the things, you have to go through them and let others go through too.
How do you anticipate events unfolding? How can you observe such unfoldments in your environment?
I don't really know, I think from what has already happened, from the people involved, from myself.
I sometimes tend to try to predict things and I like to be prepared for all eventualities because it makes me feel safer, but I also know that predictions are not 100% certain. I've missed opportunities because of this.
In what situations is timing important? How do you know the time is right to act? How do you feel about waiting for the right moment ?
It depends on when I've decided it's time to act.
I'll use the example of my driver's license, I started getting my license 1 year before the end of school but then I decided to finish school first to focus on my license after (also out of laziness I admit). My parents bothered me a lot because I needed to get the license but I only did it when I saw that I needed it to work and I couldn't leave it for later anymore (can expire). It was a bad choice, but I needed a reason to have motivation.
I finally finished this, I couldn't take it anymore. Thank you for reading this far ;)

2024.05.16 13:17 Slayers_Picks UFC Fight Night: Barboza v Murphy Parlay Explained.

Hello!
I hope we're all having a great week so far!
This is part 2 of... probably 2 when it comes to new and upcoming additions to my write ups. It is still very much a work in progress, so please, any feedback is very, very much needed. If this doesn't suit my writing style that much, then let me know and ill stick to what I do best!
The format of this write up is simple... After every write up I usually give you guys a primary parlay, since this is a betting subreddit of course so I kind of felt like I needed to implement some sort of betting thing. This is me breaking down reasons why I wanted to add x y z to the parlay. This will hopefully be a short write up and a short read as there's probably not a whole lot to say, but I also just generally wanted to expand on the parlays just because when I'm doing the main write up, there aint no time nor space in a reddit post to type everything.
I also generally feel like I'm not doing enough for this genuinely awesome community, so there's some slight pressure on me to step it up a bit, i think.
so, let me begin, feel free to criticize or give feedback, it's much wanted.
Leg 1: Ducote/Demopoulos o2.5 or GTD
This one kind of is a given considering the fact that both fighters have styles which do not have a quick path to a finish. Ducote's style is very boxing heavy, but it's also full of volume and short bursts of action, she does not necessarily sit down on her punches a whole lot, its "throw a combination and move". That steady pace has produced quite a few decisions on her record, which gives me the initial boost in confidence that she can fight at a steady enough pace to warrant a bet that this fight goes the distance. However, I am aware of some concerns given the fact that she has a few finishes under her belt. A lot of her finishes are based on ground action, she initiates ground and pound really quickly, and whilst I don't think Demopoulos is going to fare too well defending those punches, Demopoulos' highly active guard is going to most likely be enough to both mitigate the damage dealt by Ducote, and overall make Ducote waste her punches. I do think overall that this fight is going to take place mostly on the feet with Demopoulos throwing one to two punches per Ducotes 3 or 4. It is most likely going to be a game of volume and activity, and unless Demopoulos takes this fight to the ground and finds that submission real quick, I don't quite think that this is going to be a fight which results in a finish.
Leg 2: (optional Gatto/Vidal o2.5 or GTD)
Now, this one is optional, I usually only add optional legs to a parlay if I think there's a slight chance of it landing. Which usually means it probably won't land, but for those that perhaps want maybe some extra juice to their parlay, think of adding this one to it. This parlay is going to land depending on how Vidal fights, and that's always going to be a ridiculously tough thing to predict given the relatively short history of Vidal's fights in the UFC, but from the footage available, it is fair to say she is a fairly decent fighter on the feet, she has power in her attacks and if she looks for that quick KO early (something she has the propensity to do). The biggest threat for Gatto is going to be the right side attacks, the leg kicks and the overhand right. Those are the two main attacks that Vidal uses, and if she reads those attacks effectively and does not risk any exchanges, I do think this could be a slow and steady fight. Vidal's style is a prime reason why this is an optional parlay, whenever there is a power factor is completely shakes up the predictability of any fight, because if a fighter gets clipped, we are not sure how they are going to react. We have seen fighters swing back and get lost in the chaos, or level change and leave their neck exposed. This is going to be a chaotic fight and one that is going to be so fascinating to watch, but I do think that the chance of a finish is relatively low given the low volume of Vidal and the toughness and space that Gatto fights at. Her technique is limited to big attacks, and it should be those big attacks that are most easily readable by Gatto.
Leg 3: Nolan/Martinez ITD
This one to me seems self explanatory. Both fighters are extremely dangerous on the feet, they both have ridiculously exciting offensive attacks, but most importantly, pertaining to this bet, they both tend to have a little bit too much fun in the pocket, and it's during those seconds in the pocket that I see a finish happening from either side. There is also the additional concern on the side of Martinez that he lacks the defensive techniques and layers to avoid long attacks, and given that any fighter is going to enter the pocket, throw a little, then step back to reset, it's that "step back to reset" where I see Martinez getting exposed since he tends to leave his hand a bit loose, not quite in a tight guard position. Let's not forget that both fighters are coming off KO losses, they both have quite high finish percentages so I do think both are going to come into this fight looking for a quick finish in order to get back into the win column and build the momentum back after their devastating debut losses.
Leg 4: Hill/Pinheiro o2.5 or GTD
It was difficult to get a read on this fight given the style clash, and it is probably risky to even add Pinheiro's name to an o2.5/GTD bet given her history of slowing down substantially, but I do think that Ribas just really put it on her and it was the early power punches from Pinheiro which emptied her out a bit faster than you would otherwise see. Pacing is important for Pinheiro here, and whilst her threat of a quick KO/TKO is relatively high stylistically in the first half of the fight, I do think, as pointed out in my write up, that Hills ability to adapt to takedowns and trips is going to ultimately negate that threat. Now, there are two main threats here which might make this bet sketchy. Firstly, if Pinheiro has not improved her gas tank, than you are most likely going to see the potential of a Hill TKO skyrocket, in which case you better damn hope she finishes Pinheiro in the last minute of the fight (if you went o2.5). The second threat comes from the slick BJJ and grappling of Pinheiro, it probably won't take long for Pinheiro to try and get back control, lock in her hooks and try to drag Hill to the ground, and whilst Hill is generally a very sound MMA fighter who is good at defending grappling attacks, it only takes one mistake to get locked into a submission, and I think given that Pinheiro faced hell in the third round, she probably doesn't want to face that same kind of hell from a more cleaner kickboxer like Hill. Ultimately though, I think its going to be a back and forth and the fight will hit the scorecards. This one could be a parlay buster though given those two threats, so feel free to fade this leg. (is that even a term?)
Leg 5: Barboza/Murphy R3 Starts - Yes
This one probably doesn't need too much explanation. Barboza is an absolute veteran who is very hard to put away, and whilst Murphy is going to be looking very quick and slick on the feet during the first couple of rounds, I do think Barboza is more than capable enough to hang in there and wear the initial storm before adapting and coming back with his own attacks. Both fighters have excellent gas tanks too, and whilst we haven't seen Murphy in the championship rounds, the fact that he still fights at a high pace in the third round gives me hope that this bet hits. I mean, 10 minutes of action needs to pass anyway so it's a relatively safe bet in my opinion.
That's it!
Again, feedback is much welcome, I would love to hear thoughts on if this should be a main stay alongside my long and short prediction posts! If not, I will be absolutely more than happy to leave this on the side!
I have been thinking of adding my "confidence levels" system to this post, but then it would be fuckin weird like, imagine seeing someone put a leg in their parlay and that shit's low confidence lol. I might think of another system but for now, we'll keep it simple.
Thank you for reading this, have an amazing week and enjoy the incredible fights this weekend!

2024.05.16 13:15 Dimetro_Sparks I've decided to put my take on the Internet popular "Mothra: Queen of the Monsters"

I've decided to put my take on the Internet popular
Hope you all enjoy the show! (Fair warning, it's very long)
We start off as a flashback during early Ancient Egypt times, where Mothra was flying over the deserts, peacefully scattering her godly lights over man and animal alike, bowing down to her in reverence and becoming docile respectively, before she senses a disturbance somewhere. She rushes over to it, and sees Abaddon (using my idea for him, a huge-ass Dragonfly with a functional mouth, a stinger tail, and the forelimbs of a Praying Mantis) using his swarm to hunt for food.
Mothra dispels the swarm and attacks Abaddon with her God Rays, with Abaddon territorially attacking the Queen, and Mothra, in a show of stubbornness, engaging his challenge, and both insectoid Titans engaged in a brutal aerial battle as the Ancient Egyptians watched. It looked as it was going well for the more nimble Mothra, until Abaddon trapped Mothra in his raptorial forelimbs, brutally slamming and dragging her across the sands, before he lifted her and raised his stinger. It cuts to the Ancient Egyptians, who gasp and look on in horror as the sound of a sharp object and crunching sounds fill the air. Abaddon drops Mothra's lifeless corpse as he flies away, having satiated his hunger, while the screen zooms in on Mothra's eye. Whatever epic opening your mind makes happens, before the title lights up.
We follow Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) and her surrogate daughter Jia (Kaylee Hottle) again, this time joined with the Chen Twins, Dr. Ilene and Dr. Ling (both played by Zhang Ziyi) as Jia dreams about Mothra…'s hatching, that is. That's right, sometime after the battle in Rio de Janeiro, Mothra has flown to the Borneo Jungle and laid an egg there, and the main cast arrive to witness it in person, and naturally, when the larva hatches, it was a magnificent sight for all involved. When the night falls and Jia goes to sleep in the Borneo Outpost, she once again shares a dream with Mothra, joined by the Chen Twins, due to their history with the Queen… until the dream started going out of control, wildly flashing and prophesying, among other things, a high-pitched whining sound, unblinking red eyes, the earth collapsing, and darkness enveloping the skies.
Everyone in the dream, from where they are, wake up in a cold sweat, until they get an urgent call that the Mothra Larva was displaying an unnatural and out of character level of agitation, proven correct when they see the slightly nervous Mothra pulsating yellow and orange, before breaking free of her containment and vanishing into the forest. It was pretty easily seen that something big was about to go down if Mothra of all Titans was getting upset. And soon enough, it looked like it came true when a devastating earthquake shook a large part of Asia, splitting the ground asunder and causing ruin, all while energy signatures shows Mothra venturing into Hollow Earth. At this point, the humans knew something was up. So it was decided, one team, with Dr. Ilene Chen, would stay up on the Surface World and monitor any more earthquakes or disturbances, and another, with Dr. Ling, and newcomers to the series Lance Gibson (Donny Lucas) and Scarlet Wilde (Emilia Clarke) would venture into Hollow Earth to keep track of Mothra.
As Team Hollow Earth follows Mothra, understanding that she is sensing something they don't, they keep a close eye on her. Mothra continues making a beeline, hauling ass towards wherever, until she enters a foggy quarry and sees a flashing light that comes closer to her, causing Mothra to tense up, until the fog dispels and she sees… Battra. The flashing light was his horn, and Mothra, seeing this larva that shares the same similarities to her, softens up. Team Hollow Earth were stunned at seeing another Moth Titan, especially with scans showing they share the same genetic material. Mothra appears to be slightly taller than Battra, with Lance suggesting the possibility of them being siblings, and Mothra having hatched first, something that everybody agrees on. Battra has sensed Mothra's presence and vice-versa, with the Queen of the Monsters being visibly overjoyed to be an older sister. Until Battra's horn glows red, and he glows in agitation, before beckoning Mothra to follow him, and the humans trail after them.
Mothra and Battra's venture in the rest of Hollow Earth lead to the Moth Siblings getting ambushed by a large and aggressive Praying Mantis Sub-Titan called a Scymantis. Battra, who has never been in a serious battle before, was scared and hid behind Mothra, who fortunately, did know how to fight. Mothra does battle with the Scymantis, and Mothra, filled with a huge protective big sister instinct, had actually led to her killing the Scymantis, a move that stuns everyone watching, even Mothra herself, though she quickly collects herself and continues on to follow Battra's signal. Both Moth Siblings take a breather in a large beautiful grassy plain, where they see large glowing aphid-like creatures called Flight Lights, one of whom Mothra grabs and directs it's abdomen to her mouth, before eating in a delicious (to her) substance like an ant eating honeydew from an aphid. Battra tries to do the same as his sister, but he doesn't know how to, which visibly saddens him. Mothra, seeing the trouble her younger brother is facing, teaches him how to properly eat from a Flight Light, and does so properly, causing him to light up in happiness.
Meanwhile, with Team Surface World, Monarch is helping the areas of Asia that has been led to ruin by the earthquake, when they see the skies slightly darkening, something they identify to be a sign that Abaddon is arriving. Sure enough, he does indeed show up, his swarm following him. Abaddon was highly aggressive, something that confuses the Monarch team up above, until Abaddon reaches in and pulls out a huge insectoid Titan. The humans back away as Abaddon engages in a battle with the creature, before killing it, and feasting on it. Abaddon leaves, but the humans are left to ponder at what came out. Back in Hollow Earth, the Moth Siblings a large chasm in the ground, going several kilometers down, called the Gaping Maw. The Moth Siblings leap down the chasm, falling underneath and dispelling a veil of natural steam, with the humans following them, until they reach the bottom.
Mothra bravely treads ahead, while Battra cautiously trails behind her, his horn staying red. Until the humans manage to direct the two of them to a veil of what looked like webbing, with Scarlet confirming it not belonging to the Moth Titans. Both Moths rip it open, and see a huge hive, all filled to the brim with Meganulons, almost all of whom stop and stare at them. Battra was nervous, but Mothra crawled forward. Up until she sees a Meganulon about to fall to its death, at which point she rushes forward with no hesitation and saves it. As the Meganulon stared at her in what looked like awe and wonder, a loud screeching is heard, and all the Meganulons back away as both Moth Siblings. Battra looked terrified, while Mothra was defiant, as the Queen of the Meganulons, Megaguirus, emerged and hovered down to greet the newcomers.
Megaguirus sniffed Mothra out with her antennae, and understood that she came from the Surface World, which is good news for her, seeing as she wants to expand her hive. Until she sensed something else on the Surface. One of her own was dead, murdered. The same one that Abaddon killed. Furious at one of her brood's death, Megaguirus engaged the Moth Siblings in battle (yes, she treats her subjects with remarkably more respect and kindness that Skar King). Mothra valiantly fought her, even as a larva, while protecting the terrified Battra. While it looked like Mothra was doing well, Megaguirus, due to being mature, being incredibly speedy, having razor-sharp wings, and able to fly, managed to overpower her, grappling her in a deadly lock with her pincers and stinger tail, and even absorbing Mothra's energy with her stinger. Battra was scared, but upon seeing Mothra struggling, he decided to charge in and his horn lights up with yellow electrical (what looks like it, anyway) energy, and using it to force Megaguirus off of Mothra, who tag teams the Meganulon Queen and slams her to the ground.
They would have continued, if not for Megaguirus' wings glowing and letting out a roar. Suddenly, the ground erupted, and out came Megalon, whom Megaguirus treated almost like a brother, with Megalon in turn, being unfailingly loyal to her. And so, used his abilities over the earth to severely injure Mothra and Battra, forcing them to retreat. As the humans escape the Gaping Maw and bring the two Moth Titans to a secluded but humongous cavern to rest, the humans found ancient tunnels with writings of an ancient tribe, explaining that their God, Megalon, created the Vile Vortexes to Hollow Earth, but after getting touched by a "Golden Ray of Light", he had become destructive after meeting Megaguirus, a "kindred spirit", and have a solution should they ever attack the world. Unbeknownst to them, the Moth Siblings found that solution: a huge influx of Hollow Earth radiation, not only healing their wounds, but supercharging them, and accelerating their growth. When the humans finally notice the blinding lights behind them, they saw the double cocoons, and the literal blinding beauty of both Moth Siblings gracefully emerge in their Imago Forms.
Battra was amazed at his new form, while Mothra makes a dash and flies out, zooming out. Meanwhile, Battra flies back into the Gaping Maw to keep an eye on the Meganulons, he sees that Megaguirus is on the move, with Megalon and a crap-ton of Meganulon Warrior drones to assist her in her invasion of the Surface World. Battra flies back to the humans and warns this to Jia, who relays it to the humans, until Lance asks where the hell Mothra went to, with Scarlet bringing up scans revealing she went to the Surface. Back up in the Surface World, the team there reads Mothra's signatures erupting as she flies out, but she is making a straight beeline for a specific Titan. To Abaddon. Mothra is directly provoking him to get him to follow her to combat this threat, which worries Dr. Ling, seeing as she was aware of what Abaddon was capable of. Sure enough, the two Insect Titans collide in Bangladesh, where a furious Abaddon engages the challenging Mothra in combat once again. It seems as if history is going to repeat, until Battra steps in between the downed Mothra and Abaddon, and explains the situation. Abaddon was motionless for a few moments, before he backs off and follows Mothra and Battra to Hollow Earth.
With Team Hollow Earth, they were now tasked with holding the line between Megaguirus' forces, and the Vile Vortexes to the Surface World until Mothra comes back, knowing that they're in big trouble if they manage to get there. While this happens, Battra and Abaddon get into some skirmishes about one-upping the other due to Battra's newfound confidence with his powers and Abaddon's dislike of anything moth, but manage to hold it in enough to get to their destination. Soon enough, the three insectoid Titans arrive at the battlefield, where they charge in as Megaguirus and her forces do to. Mothra engages in a dogfight with Megaguirus, Battra attacks Megalon on the ground, and Abaddon makes some snacks out of the Meganulons, as the humans attempt to both escape and join in on the fight. During the brawl, Megalon manages to make the ground unstable enough for him to fall into a Vile Vortex, causing the other Titans (and humans) to follow suit.
In the Surface World, all the combatants find themselves in Barcelona, Spain. Megaguirus commands her hive with a high-pitched whining to arrive, with Megaguirus' absorption of Mothra's ability darkening the sky in a huge electrical superstorm, one Meganulon almost grabbing the humans, until Abaddon swoops in to save them, and the Moth Siblings follow suit. Their battles takes them to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone. During the clash of insects, Battra realized brute force wasn't going to work on Megalon, so he continued beating down the huge beetle, until he grabbed the fatigued Megalon, and aerial suplexed him, making the ground give way and having him plummet to the depths of the earth. Now without her biggest ally, Megaguirus attacks more furiously, but fails when both Moth Siblings tag-team her with slashes and stabs, as Battra amplifies Mothra's own abilities, when Mothra grabs her and stares her down. Megaguirus roars defiantly, which is when Mothra flies up to the superstorm and throws Megaguirus in there, electrocuting her, before Mothra slams Megaguirus down on one of the volcanoes, immolating her to death. Both Moth Siblings and Abaddon roar triumphantly as Mothra uses her God Rays to dispel the superstorm. Mothra looks at Abaddon, who seems to give her and Battra a look of respect, before he flies off.
Mothra is seen patrolling over the skies of the Amazon Rainforest, until she is greeted by Battra, as both the Moth Siblings exchange a cute little bioluminescent show of affection towards each other. Both teams of humans watch as Mothra and Battra fly off, casting a bigger light than the sun, and fade to white as the ending scene before credits roll.

2024.05.16 13:04 Mission-Maximum-6161 Fiancé doesn’t understand my worries

I would prefer some religious perspective on this post since I’m a Christian woman (F28) and my fiancé and upcoming husband is a Muslim (30M)
He doesn’t have a problem with my faith because I’m one of the people of the book and he is allowed to marry me
Unfortunately I’m born with a severe and permanent heart condition and my resting saturation is between 80-85% and it decreases with physical activity. So it is a lot lower than normal. My cardiologists have strongly advised against having children and becoming pregnant due to my heart condition. It could make my heart condition worse with all sorts of potential new conditions or even mortality to both me and baby. It could also be passed on the child and cause stillbirth, miscarriages and premature births if my heart condition was milder and if I was able to get pregnant
But my heart condition is very complex and requires monitoring every six months. I can’t take all medications because I’m at higher risk of developing liver failure. My current medication is the only one that has worked for keeping my oxygen levels stable. My condition can’t be cured medically or surgically but the medication helps with stabilizing my oxygen levels so it at least doesn’t get worse.
Unfortunately it doesn’t uptake progesterone very well and I can’t take estrogen either because of the higher risks of blood clots and heart attacks.
But my fiancé still won’t let me get permanently sterilized even though I’ve tried to explain my condition and was honest about the fact that I’m unable to have children. In the beginning he seemed to understand but now it seems like he has an unrealistic idea that I might be able to have children one day. He even agreed to get a vasectomy but now he doesn’t want one and claims he never said he would get one.
I also told him the doctors have said a future surgery would be very invasive and risky to my heart health. More risky than beneficial. But even then he doesn’t seem to get it and still thinks it can be cured one day, but at this point there might be more risks related to pregnancy due to age even if I got it cured and even then it is still risky to my heart health.
It makes me feel like he isn’t honest about wanting children and that he keeps his options open with me because he probably thinks he can’t find anyone else to have children with him due to his own medical problems. So that’s probably why he won’t let me despite knowing the risks and dangers it could pose to my health and life.
Anyone with advice on what to do to make him understand my worries? He normally is very kind and caring about my health but the idea of permanent sterilization just upsets him
tl;dr

2024.05.16 12:43 minimumaxima Flares from CoQ10 demystified [How I hacked my flox — Personal Story]

Hello, everyone! It's been a while since I posted anything or even visited the sub. I do not visit the sub anymore as I collected all the information I needed long ago and staying on the sub only led to more thinking about flox. Focusing on other areas of life has been a great life hack for me! I have done a lot of positive things in the past half a year - I am starting my own business, been meeting new people and making a lot of new friends. Flox has changed me for the better.
I want to preface this by saying that I was probably the only person (or almost only as I've met maybe 1 or 2 other people on Reddit) who claimed flares from CoQ10. It actually flared me quite a lot — sometimes I could handle 100mg and sometimes even 30mg would lead to terrible pain. It was frightening to be one of the rarest cases in a pool of already rare cases, so, naturally, I tracked reactions to supplements extremely attentively (u/vadroqvertical won’t let me lie about that) and I have tried a lot (my cupboard is full of supplements — I spent around €3,500 on them in the span of 1.5 years). I will list reactions to supplements and the approximate timeline of when it happened:
— First of all, CoQ10/Ubiquinol flared me not so much 1 month out (tried 100mg ubiquinol multiple times) but it got worse as time went on to the point that April 2023 I could not even take 30mg without great pain. I tried it 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 16 months out all without luck with varying doses flaring me to different extents. I will outline the reasons for it below;
— Vitamin E flared me a lot 2, 4, 6 and 8 months out. Never tried again. Tried 200-400 IU at a time. Due to poor GSH regeneration through Glutathione Reductase dependent upon B2 and NADPH;
— Benfothiamine flared me as well (doses 150mg-300mg/day). This is due to high sulphite and blockage of complex IV of the Electron Transport Chain in the mitochondria the reason for I will explain further. Thiamine is easily broken down by sulphite in the body and it is broken down into sulphite as well, which causes a negative loop reaction in people with high sulphite levels. Benfothiamine also caused me a severe allergic reaction (extreme anxiety and itching) that gladly did not require hospitalisation but was extremely scary and scarred me psychologically (likely high sulfocysteine activated NMDA receptors);
— Vitamin B6 increased my neuropathy when I got it. Likely due to poor B2 functional status. The problem I was also deficient in B6 and its supplementation led to great improvements in sleep quality once I could tolerate it. Note B6 is easily destroyed by sulphite just like B1;
— Riboflavin flared me (tried at 100mg, doses under 10mg never flared me). This is likely due to unmatched NADPH supply due to high sulphite load in the body (speculative);
— Astaxanthin greatly improved my physical health at 5-6 months out (proving that the core of my issues was solely ROS) but it caused reductive stress (NADH accumulation), which also caused pain, albeit the pain was a different kind and asta caused worsening neuropathy and visual snow. It accumulates in fat tissue, so stopping it was nice with ROS coming to a balance at about 10-12 days after discontinuation (after a loading dose of 36mg/daily for 3.5 weeks) but ROS then came back after it went out of the body further. I did not retry astaxanthin as I realised it caused me reductive stress and neurological issues;
— NAC helped me a damn lot. It was the best antioxidant for me. The problem is it depleted my molybdenum and copper and started giving me allergic reactions (low molybdenum + copper as well as blocked complex IV will lead to way higher sulphite generated from NAC);
— Did not feel much from vitamin D. I live in a very sunny country and tested at 51 (ref. Range 30+) without any supplements;
— Magnesium helped me a lot. #1 supplement;
— Calcium did not help me much in the beginning, actually, caused me heart palpitations. Was fine taking it after a few months;
— Potassium was a good supplement. I took 800mg/day for a while and it supported my muscle health;
Important: vitamin B5 made me feel a lot better. It took my ROS down like crazy — I could feel normal muscles again, it removed my oxalate pain completely, too but for only a short while like 3-4h.
I have tried many more supplements that were phyto-supplements and such and none of them really helped me beside maybe some placebo effects. Some made me feel worse and were not worth it at all. I did not try anything mood-changing as I was not interested in it. To note, GABA supplement made me feel a little euphoric at first.
It is very relevant that I have been oxalate dumping since 27 Dec. 2023. The description of the experience can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/floxies/comments/1by0uh0/comment/kyma718/
Now, to the real question: why did CoQ10 flare me even at high nutrient status (just after flox). I have to stress that flares from CoQ10 were much less at the beginning of flox likely due to better nutrient status (it went from extremely terrible to slightly more extremely terrible while 6 months out it went from ‘eh’ to terrible).
  1. First, I have to say that NAC made me worse long-term. How? Over a long period of time I was taking it and was not watching my copper (NAC increases metallothionein and causes poor copper absorption) and molybdenum levels (NAC raises generation of sulfite and it needs molybdenum to be detoxified). Some NAC formulations have molybdenum in them but I was not lucky to get one of those and, due to lack of knowledge, did not supplement any molybdenum. The result was high sulphite and from that high ROS (with a combo of benfo which further increased sulphite it caused me peripheral neuropathy at 5 months). Sulphite causes Fenton reactions when complex IV gets blocked up. H2S (a signalling molecule and a vasodilator) also needs to be detoxified by a CoQ-10 dependent enzyme and turned later into sulphite and then sulphate by molybdenum and complex IV (dependent on copper) and if it is not detoxified, it causes a complex IV blockage and starts Fenton reactions as well as electron leakage during production of ATP, causing ROS. This causes a negative feedback loop that was described in the linked at the end article as follows [CoQ10 Deficiency Is Sulfur Toxicity]:
«This can be explained as follows:
  1. hydrogen sulfide inhibition of complex IV generates superoxide in the respiratory chain, which becomes hydrogen peroxide,
  2. hydrogen sulfide reduces ferric iron to ferrous iron, which makes it release from storage in ferritin,
  3. this increases Fenton reactions between free iron and hydrogen peroxide, which generate more dangerous reactive oxygen species like the hydroxyl radical,
  4. all of this deplete glutathione,
  5. since a major purpose of the trans-sulfuration pathway is to provide enough cysteine to make glutathione, glutathione depletion hyperactivates the trans-sulfuration pathway, leading to more cysteine availability, the excess of which is catabolized to sulfite by alternative reactions that do not produce hydrogen sulfide and therefore do not require CoQ10.»
  6. In the article linked below, you will see that CoQ-10 protects against reactive oxygen species mainly due to improving hydrogen sulphide clearance (H2S). Therefore, CoQ-10 deficiency did not cause much ROS in complexes I and II but mainly produced issues in Complex III (where sulphite detoxification starts) and complex IV (where the last electrons are delivered during the sulphite-sulphate reaction). Excerpt: «In human cells with CoQ10 synthesis defects from the same study, CoQ10 protected against reactive oxygen species, but suppressing the enzyme that uses CoQ10 to clear hydrogen sulfide abolished this effect. This shows that the reactive oxygen species were coming from poor hydrogen sulfide clearance.»
Considering this, and oh my god, finding this article was like god sent it to me: my CoQ10 flares were coming from poor hydrogen sulphide clearance. At that point there were multiple reasons this could be happening:
  1. Cellular CoQ-10 deficiency;
  2. Manganese toxicity which causes CoQ-10 deficiency [read "Manganese Toxicity Is a CoQ10 Deficiency" linked below];
  3. Copper deficiency;
  4. Molybdenum deficiency;
  5. SUOX (enzyme which converts sulphite to sulphate) or another genetic impairment;
  6. Blockage of complex IV by something else.
I checked my molybdenum and copper transporting genes, SUOX using DBSNP and my AncestryDNA.txt file, and they were all good (Yes, I know Ancestry does not do a full genomic profile but it still had the main SNPs for that). I also checked my manganese transporter genes and seemed I was homozygous for an important one but fine with others. It is really hard to estimate how that might affect you IRL, perhaps that would require a really good genetic counsellor (or lots of hours spent ruminating again). I also did not think I had any genetic issue since I was very very healthy all my life and had 0 pain or health issues before flox occurred (I have extremely healthy young looking parents that drink, smoke and do whatever they want and have 0 consequences to their health as well).
I took some tests, for example: Genova NutrEval at ~6 months out, full nutrient blood test panel at ~11 months out (abstained for 35 days from any supplements at all, even vitamins and tested literally everything, paid around €1,200) and my CoQ10 levels at both of those occurrences were at 1 & 1.07 in absence of supplementation with ref. range 0.8-1.4, so it was definitely not low. That way I eliminated #1 and #5. While I was not entirely sure whether genetic issues had to do anything with it, I decided to pretend like they didn’t, since I had to try out other solutions before jumping to the most complex one. I took a lot of molybdenum, so molybdenum deficiency was not at the table for me. In this way I was left with #2, #3 and #6. In the full blood panel, my manganese was slightly high (20.1 with ref. Range <~18) and the SNP people were talking about that caused them manganese toxicity was homozygous for me, so I definitely considered it but manganese when supplemented made me a feel a lot better, actually (mentally, not physically), so I was also likely deficient in it. For now, I just avoid it in supplemental doses but I do not avoid foods containing it. Besides, I do not have iron overload genes that could contribute to manganese toxicity. My CoQ-10 levels were good enough, too, so it was unlikely to be manganese toxicity.
I could not take copper because it would lead to high ROS immediately (due to complex IV blockage the reasons for which I will outline further). Considering manganese was likely deficient and not superfluous, I discarded reason #2 and reason #3 could not be fixed by copper, so it was definitely not only copper deficiency but either another factor or another factor coupled with copper deficiency. I was stuck for a long time until I found another article from the same author about B12 and B9 helping to detoxify oxalate. As I said before all this explanation, I have been oxalate dumping throughout the whole process (already 4 months). I should note I was oxalate dumping even before I got floxed (I likely had oxalate overload due to my appendix surgery — this is proven by inflamed mesenteric lymph nodes confirmed by 3 MRIs — Sally Norton has the same case of over-absorption in her book) and that is how I actually got the E. Coli they gave me Cipro for (oxalate crystals create a good environment for it in the urinary tract lol) and how I got floxed (I went full circle, lmao). When I was floxed, I was not oxalate dumping for at least a year likely because my body was not in the state to handle the dumping process but it was still affecting me as I will outline further. First of all, I want to say that biotin actually promoted dumping for me as said in the article and not relieved it like it is said in Sally Norton’s book (I am not sure if there is a genetic variation to this). The proposed mechanism of oxalate detoxification in the article is as follows:
«Recall my proposed two-step detoxification process:
  1. Pyruvate carboxylase [biotin-dependent] converts oxalate to formate.
  2. Formate is joined to tetrahydrofolate to enter the methylation cycle, be used for the synthesis of purines or DNA, or be converted to carbon dioxide and exhaled in the breath.»
This are also very important words: «There may be more regulation layered on top of this to prevent excessive formate accumulation. It would certainly be preferable to have oxalate crystals cause pain or disrupt the skin than to have formate accumulate beyond the capacity to clear it.» This is why I felt best when dumping. Could eat anything, drink beer, even smoked weed once without issue. Another time though I got too brave, smoked a lot of weed and got a very bad ‘relapse’ but recovered quickly from it. The next morning when using a towel after a shower I had the same pain I used to have 2.5 months out from Cipro (which was extremely bad and took me back 14 months in memories) while before I smoked weed that second time I had almost 0 tendon pain in my daily life apart from oxalate [Here I thought maybe I and DrHungry share similar issues then? He also had an extreme (same in intensity relatively to his flox journey) flare from weed and is also using a lot of sulphur-based antioxidants still. Could such weed flares be related to complex IV dysfunction and/or impaired sulphite clearance?]. In either case, I felt best when dumping, probably because my body was able to regulate formate accumulation and ROS production greatly reduced at those times.
I was sitting outside with my parents and their friends, researching my flox issue when I read these lines: «Formate accumulation is the principle mechanism of methanol toxicity. Part of its toxicity is driven by inhibiting cytochrome oxidase, complex IV of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, which would inhibit the clearance of sulfite and hydrogen sulfide and block the production of ATP.» It finally clicked. It was honestly one of the best moments in my life when I realised. I made the connection between great improvement from B5, formate accumulation, issues with copper supplementation, general ROS improvement from dumping and oxalate everything together. Suddenly, my whole flox journey became crystal clear to me.
B5 is mainly used in the body to create Coenzyme A. An intermediate molecule in the production of CoA is called 4’-phosphopantethine and is used in the enzyme 10-methyltetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase (high formate will pair with THF and form 10-MTHF in the attempt of the body to detoxify formate). This enzyme converts 10-MTHF back to THF and creates NADPH in the process which is used by Glutathione Reductase to regenerate Glutathione. Hence, high-dose B5 led to a lot of those reactions occurring and me feeling a big relief from ROS AND OXALATE, so oxalate is indeed detoxified into formate by biotin-dependent pyruvate carboxylase.
Okay, so theory is very interesting but what is theory if it has no proof? When I read it, I realised I finally cracked my flox but I had to get real proof.
Just a few weeks before this, I drank some wine and got nerve damage (likely from high sulphites in it, again, duh — while this was a terrible experience, it played a role in me getting closer to the solution of my issues). Beer caused me no issues, could drink 10 or more bottles in one sitting, eat a lot of rice when drunk with no issue. Before, I had only numb hands and top of feet. After the wine, I had burning up to the knee and burning in palms and behind my shoulders. I got fed up with this, I just decided to methylate the fuck out of my nerves and eat copper not in supplements but from calamari (very high in copper but low in vit A, so no toxicity risk like from liver). At that time, I was dumping and my ROS was not too high. I started consuming around 200g protein per day, eating a lot of copper 3-4mg/day and my nerves really healed a lot. To the point they even became normal after 3-4 days. My vision became brighter, it was absolutely crazy. I was also supplementing 150mg molybdenum/day. After a week of that, though, I started getting ROS back and it was very bad ROS, like almost a year ago when I had low molybdenum and copper from a lot of NAC use. That confirmed my suspicion that my issue was indeed sulphite. Eating almost anything caused ROS for me, dumping stopped since the body had no free reducing agents (NADPH) to support sulphate-producing enzymes (oxalate is transported on sulphate transporters, so it literally could not drive out of the cell because it had no car lol). As you understand, high ROS prevents a lot of enzymes from working and here it causes, as you have probably understood, a negative feedback loop.
So, back to the proof. Since I realised that my issue is probably formate, I just decided to take high-dose B5 again (did not add any high dose B2, B1 or other B vitamins, just took my usual B complex with food). It really helped me a lot, again. I felt almost normal. Then, it caused me some pain but I felt how I was getting better and the next day I took it in the day, then in the evening I ate around 80g carbs and took double the dose of B complex (my B complex has low doses: 10mg B1, 10mg B2, 25mg B3, 20mg B5, 5mg B6, 100mcg B7, 100mcg B9, 50mcg B12) instead of adding a lot of B5 and boom, no pain and oxalate dumping restarted quite more strongly than it even used to be before mega-dosing protein. So I was in pain for at least 2 weeks dying from ROS and then 2 days of B5 and suddenly I was normal again and dumping restarted? It felt like paradise with a twist. The next day, I went out with my friends. I was a little nervous since we were going to eat out and we ordered 600g of carbonara (the portions were huge there). I ate it all at once with 2x my light B complex and guess what happened? NO PAIN, just oxalate dumping. I finally realised that I was right and detoxifying formate unloaded my complex IV, allowed sulphate transporters to be created, reduced ROS production from food and suddenly I felt like a normal human being (except the dumping part). I recently retried CoQ10 — no flare. Likely before formate got recreated a lot because I was dumping a lot (if you read my comment linked above, you will understand).
I am not megadosing B5 right now but just stuck to 80-100mg B5 per day, so 4x my light B complex as my B6 tolerance improved a lot. Why I am not megadosing B5 is because oxalate likely blocks conversion of vitamin B2 into its active forms as I, at ~11 months out, when I did full-testing in the absence of supplementation 35 days pre-testing had high molybdenum, iodine, (almost above the ref. Range (113 with ref. Range <120) selenium and very high B2 even though I was cellularly deficient according to Genova NutrEval (at 356 with ref. Range <295).
Considering everything above, we can understand what happened to me from the beginning:
  1. Oxalate overload led to formate overload as oxalate is converted to formate through the action of biotin-dependent pyruvate carboxylase;
  2. Formate overload led to complex IV blockage, high ROS and high sulphite, which also leads to high ROS and also leads to complex IV blockage (negative feedback loop);
  3. High sulphite destroys vitamins B1 & B6 as said in the beginning, which caused endogenous production of oxalate to skyrocket (you can read about this if you google, this information is very available);
  4. Hence sulphate transporters also got impaired, oxalate detoxification in the form of physical crystals also halted, which led to even higher overload;
  5. This led to higher formate, this led to even more ROS.
Mega-dosing B vitamins and especially B5 and B9 led to formate detoxification and the ability of my body to detoxify oxalate. This improved me a lot and it definitely feels like it will inevitably lead to my recovery. I feel good now, I still have some remaining neuropathy but it’s minimal and I know what to avoid to not make it worse and how to improve it quickly if I need to. I have no OS from beer, coffee or food. Also, I am dumping a lot right now. You can ask me all kinds of questions that you want and I will try to answer them to my best ability since I know what it is like to be floxed and I will help anyone who is in the same situation.
I am only 22 years old and this experience led to me rethinking my whole life. I plan to become an extremely rich person to be able to fund biochemical research in the future and will focus specifically on floxed individuals and I will help floxed people first. I will try to reach my goals as fast as possible, I promise. While flox was very difficult, painful and frustrating, I only took the good things out of them. I already realized it but it confirmed that we only have one life and there is no place for negative emotions or indecision.
I hope this post does not get removed by moderators. If there is anything to moderate, change, or add, I will be happy to do that. I can provide my analyses if needed as well as proof. All I say here is very attentively selected and fact-checked either from external sources or personal experience. I do not lie and have no motivation to do so. I am only trying to share my knowledge and to help realise others flox is not unbeatable and can be understood and solved — it all depends on individual factors.

2024.05.16 12:38 bookish-catlady Post op issues

Hello, this is my first time posting on Reddit so hopefully I'm doing it right!
Had lap Chol surgery Monday morning after waiting 26 months. All went well and was home same day, although given very little info about post op other than some dressings and being told I wouldn't need a follow up (UK, NHS treatment). Pain wasn't too bad, worst was the trapped gas pain I think.
Tuesday I was a little more sore but the meds I was given (dihydracodiene) seemed to take the worst off, I was able to move about a bit and I had plenty of fluids and some sugar free jelly but no appetite.
Wednesday I woke up sore and gurgley, but managed to get up and move about a bit but by late morning I had a horrible pressure type headache start to come on and it got progressively worse through out the day, to the point I couldn't sit up and light/noise hurt.
My husband helped me shower and changed my dressings and after that I started to feel really unwell, head was pounding and got very hot and dizzy and nauseous. Took some meds and managed to sleep for maybe 2 hours before the pain in my head woke me up, it's hard to explain but felt like my brain was over heating and too big for my skull, and pressure all down my neck.
Was very sick throughout the night (horrid dark green bile) and in and out of sleep but pain kept waking me up, headache and sickness has continued throughout today (Thursday) husband spoke to my Dr for me this morning and they're prescribed sumatriptan and cyclizine which I am really hoping will help soon.
I just wondered if anyone else has had this and how long it might last? Dr didn't seem too worried as I don't have a temperature and my wounds all look ok (and don't hurt too much).
But the sickness and headache/migraine is horrible. I also haven't managed to actually eat anything firmer than jelly so far, even water doesn't want to stay down too long and I have zero appetite. I have to force myself to drink atm. Other than some bialy wind I also haven't managed to poop yet.
Will also add that I have a hiatal hernia so I'm not sure if the bile post op is irritating my stomach?
Anyone else had this kind of thing? Doni need to get back on at the Dr for an actual follow up or just wait and see?

Improved Customer Retention: Retaining customers is vital to your business. Using a CRM allows you to better track your customers and instantly address their questions and concerns.

Centralized Database of Information: A CRM creates a centralized database of your customers' data, so anyone who may need it can access it. Travel agents can then see what types of trips customers may be interested in based on their past interactions with your company. As a result, your customers will have a more positive experience, and your employees will save time.

Increased Sales: By using a CRM program, you can design a particular sales plan, automate key parts of your sales process, and help you analyze the data being collected about your sales. All of this can help you improve both your sales and productivity. Furthermore, you can create a process for your employees that is easy to follow and can be effortlessly adjusted when necessary.

Higher Productivity: CRM systems use automation technology, which speeds up non-priority work. It also authorizes employees to focus on work that cannot be automated, such as creating content. This automation also ensures that no work is missed, and it even helps you enhance your workflow.

Better Customer Service: CRMs store information such as demographics, purchase history, and past communications in a single location. Storing all necessary data in a single place makes it easy for anyone in your company to find it. Observing customer information becomes much easier with all of your data in a single location.

Personalized Traveler Experience: Every person who travels is different, with their own preferences and interests. Some people prefer to go to the beach, while others stick to the mountains. Some people want to visit a big city, while others would rather go to a secluded cabin in the wilderness. With travelers who are so diverse, the way you interact with them should be as well. You can better understand the preferences of your audience with a CRM. You and your travel agents better tailor the experience you are offering them.

What Major Features Does CRM For Travel Agencies Have?

Travel agencies can utilize the CRM to manage their contact information, log communications via multiple channels, and automate endless tasks

Begin your journey by scheduling an initial consultation with a designer in Port Macquarie. Discuss your vision, needs, and budget. This meeting is crucial for setting the foundation of your project.

Designing Your Kitchen

The designer will create a comprehensive plan for your kitchen renovation. This includes layout, materials, color schemes, and appliances. Review and refine the design until it perfectly aligns with your vision.

Selecting Materials and Appliances

Choose materials and appliances that complement your design and meet your functional needs. Opt for high-quality options that will stand the test of time and add a touch of luxury to your kitchen.

Hiring Reliable Contractors

A successful kitchen renovation requires skilled contractors. Your designer can recommend trusted professionals in Port Macquarie who can execute the design to perfection.

Managing the Renovation Process

Stay involved throughout the renovation process. Regular updates and open communication with your designer and contractors will ensure the project stays on track and any issues are addressed promptly.

Adding the Finishing Touches

Once the major renovation work is complete, focus on the finishing touches. This includes lighting, hardware, and decorative elements that bring the entire design together.

Designer Kitchen Features

Functional Layouts

Effective kitchen design starts with a functional layout. Consider U-shaped, L-shaped, or island layouts that enhance workflow and provide ample counter space.

Superior Quality Materials

Invest in superior quality materials such as granite or quartz counter tops, solid wood cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances. These materials not only look beautiful but also offer durability and longevity.

Innovative Storage Solutions

Maximize storage with innovative solutions like pull-out pantries, deep drawers, and custom cabinetry. These features help keep your kitchen organised and clutter-free.

Stylish Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in kitchen design. Combine ambient, task, and accent lighting to create a well-lit and inviting space. Consider pendant lights over islands and under-cabinet lighting for added functionality.

Modern Appliances

Incorporate modern, energy-efficient appliances that enhance your kitchen's functionality. Look for features like smart technology, which can add convenience and sophistication to your kitchen.

Personal Touches

Add personal touches that reflect your style and personality. This could include a custom back splash, unique hardware, or decorative elements that make your kitchen truly one-of-a-kind.

Case Study 1: Modern Minimalism

A family in Port Macquarie transformed their outdated kitchen into a modern minimalist space. The designer used a monochromatic colour scheme, handle less cabinets, and integrated appliances to create a sleek and clutter-free environment.

Case Study 2: Rustic Charm

Another renovation project focused on bringing rustic charm to a small kitchen. The design featured reclaimed wood cabinetry, a farmhouse sink, and vintage-inspired lighting, creating a warm and inviting space.

Case Study 3: Contemporary Elegance

A couple opted for a contemporary elegant design with high-gloss cabinets, quartz counter tops, and a statement island with waterfall edges. The result was a luxurious and functional kitchen that became the focal point of their home.

Tips for a Successful Kitchen Renovation

Plan Thoroughly

Thorough planning is essential for a successful Kitchen renovation. Take the time to think through your needs, preferences, and budget before starting the project.

Stay Flexible

Renovations can come with unexpected challenges. Stay flexible and open to adjustments to ensure the project stays on track.

Prioritize Quality

Yo /fantasy — Lancelot Schaubert + Of Gods and Globes contributors here. Ask me (or us) anything!

Hey friends, fam, fiends, ferrymen of the interstellar dead, fauns, and other assorted Fantasy folken — someone told me starting this off with a string of f-words would get your attention? Did I do it right?

Lancelot Schaubert here with some of the crew from our 23 contributors to OF GODS AND GLOBES III
I will be joined — at least — by Juliet Mariller (u/NoCalligrapher2320) who will be here early and late due to Australian time travel, Gordon Linzner, Andrew Najberg, Gabriel Kellman (u/Whalemittens) — you can ask us anything, please let us know after whom you’re asking. They might ask me questions as well.

Of Gods and Globes III

...is a standalone anthology of stories based on interstellar mythopoetic names.
Each name refers both to an astronomical phenomenon (for scifi) and a mythological phenomenon (for fantasy). I.E. — Saturn is a god and a planet, a scifi writer would write about the planet’s influence on, for instance, the influenza virus and a fantasy writer would focus on the demiurge’s. Brihaspati Graha is a Hindu demiurge and also another name for the planet Jupiter. They could pick “the great turtle” or “Charon” or “Mazzaroth,” as long as the name is a bridge between myth and the stars and they write spec fic. Considering the recent eclipses, I’m still kind of shocked no one wrote about Rahukalam, the sun eater. Perhaps we can talk a little bit about Empire of Silence? Or the role of the ever moving moon in Name of the Wind?
I love this set of OGAG stories — they made me laugh, cry, squirm, rage at injustice. Stories from the previous two OGAG volumes won the Ditmar and Aurelius awards.
Here are the story titles with tidbits about each author (some may join me), including some interviews that may provoke more questions. I’ll let them announce themselves in the comments:
  1. Twins by Juliet Marillier Juliet’s a wonderful historical fantasy writer born in Aotearoa New Zealand, living in Australia. Her historical fantasy novels and short stories are published internationally and have won numerous awards. She is the author of twenty-four novels and two collections of short fiction.and has some awesome dogs.
  2. Death In Venus by Chris Edwards He has written plot for multiple LARP systems (most notably Profound Decisions and Shadow Factories). He also co-writes an audio-drama podcast (Tales from the Aletheian Society) which has run to three seasons.
  3. Searching for the Door into Death by Michaele Jordan Has worked at a kennel, a Hebrew School and AT&T.
  4. The Mistress of the Labyrinth by Donna J. W. Munro She teaches high schoolers the slippery truths of government and history at her day job.
  5. We Have No Spare Parts by Andrew Najberg Author of the speculative horror novel Gollitok and various stories, teaches college in Tennessee. Interview here.
  6. War on Brihaspati Graha by Shashi Kadapa Based in Dharwad and Pune, Bharat Shashi is the managing editor of ActiveMuse. He was the International Fellow 2021 for IHRAF, NY. Won the IHRAF short story prize twice.
  7. A Cup of Justice by Teel James Glenn TJ has killed hundreds and been killed more times — on stage and screen, as he has traveled the world for forty-plus years as a stuntman, swordmaster, storyteller, bodyguard, actor, and haunted house barker. He was on the original cast of STREET FIGHTER: THE LATER YEARS — interview with him here.
  8. Alfa Romeo by Victory Witherkeigh Filipino/PI author originally from Los Angeles, CA, currently living in the Las Vegas area with a long list of credits.
  9. Unchained by Helen Venn Clarion 2007 grad and Writer in Residence at Tom Collins house.
  10. Mazzaroth Falls by F.C. Shultz He’s the poetry editor for The Joplin Toad and lives in the Midwest with his wife and two kids. He's trying to cultivate a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures, which means writing a lot of poems about birds (and novels about dragons). Also I didn’t realize that he grew up in Illinois like I did, so his interview was just us rambling on about Bradbury, nostalgia, and the quest to rescue his childhood blue Power Ranger.
  11. Ignition by Dan Henriksen Dan’s a coder, physicist, current spotter of a stylish beard, cyclist, and New Yorker. Cyclist New Yorker is a danger I’m not yet acquainted with, personally, but I often eat breakfast with him.
  12. Across Saturn Rose by Dr. Anthony G. Cirilla Associate Professor of English at College of the Ozarks, a lecturer at the Davenant Institue, the Associate Editor of the International Boethius Society, and serves as a deacon in the United Episcopal Church. Interview here.
  13. All Bright Things by Evangeline Giaconia Gainesville, Florida, librarian. Often found knitting and reading interesting books turned in by patrons.
  14. Charon by Chuck Boeheim Chris has a science and tech career and fills notebooks with celestial mechanic calculations. Chris writes LARP modules.
  15. The Perseid by Benjamin Chandler Expat living in Slovakia. A rather ribald interview about Wisconsin slurs for Illinois folk with him can be found here.
  16. The Legend of Johnny Comet by Benjamin Brinks Benjamin often writes under various names.
  17. Winding Ways by Emily Munro In addition to her many talents as an editor, administrator, art historian, curator, and co-wrangler of our Starlings writers group at Center for Fiction, Emily was patient 0 at the Air BnB we shared with three others at the Washington DC Worldcon. Lucky for us, we were indoors watching her live tweet the winners on the official account, so we knew all the winners about ten minutes early. She also knits her own socks. Ask one of us about the time I asked her if she had received the submission status on her first anthology.
  18. Retrograde by Artemis Crow Artemis was the only one who wore pajamas at the UnCon bedtime stories I led in Salem, Massachusetts. She had an amazing dragon hoodie. My turkey onesie never showed up.
  19. Her Secret Face by Carol Ryles Another wonder from down under, Carol actually interviewed Juliet at the recent Swancon in Perth. She also was the first to buy one of the wonderful posters and seems to love it.
  20. Jumping at ‘The Labyrinth’ by Gordon Linzner Gordon’s the founder and former editor of Space and Time Magazine, and author of scores of short stories in F&SF, Twilight Zone, Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine, and numerous other magazines and anthologies. The recently minted Linzner Award is named after him — interview here.
  21. The Visions of a Single Eye by Gabriel Kellman He works on TTRPG board and card games in his free time. He’s a longtime martial artist and lifelong cat lover. Interview here.
  22. Mars and Venus by Zoe Kaplan Zoe has no less than four swords. She works at Simon and Schuster — interview with her here.
  23. THE DELPHIC ORACLE Metaphysical Insurance Claim 0075A by Lancelot Schaubert & Alexander Sirkman — Alex is one of the funniest people I know in person. He’s the son of a rabbi, a paralegal, a lifelong New Yorker, a culinary genius, and many, many other things. I would be lost at sea in NYC without his friendship and Emily’s, particularly their joy and kindness. Interview with Alex here.
As for me?
I mean I’ll hang out and answer the most random questions imaginable (college pranks, marriage proposals, cooking 3,000 eggs Benedict to order, my fantasy universe and how it trolled non-specfic literary magazines, documentary films, filk music, pets, brewing, scavenging, surviving natural disasters like the Joplin Tornado, slow mo VHS explosions, lumber runs in NYC, CS Lewis’s offices at Cambridge, etc) until no one asks any more.
I reserve the right to answer with a story, a question, or a silly link: I'm going to try and keep this fun.

2024.05.16 12:19 Cadejo123 [REQUEST][STEAM] Monster Hunter Rise USD 10 on humble bundle [7th attempt]

Hello everyone in this beautiful community, today I come to see if I'm lucky and some kind soul could give me one of the games that I wanted to play the most this year.
Monster Hunter Rise is the latest installment of the Monster Hunter saga, in which you take the role of a warrior who is dedicated to hunting or capturing incredible creatures that range from giant crabs to dragons and beings that are almost gods. This installment of Monster Hunter has many new things and a more active gameplay than its previous installments with more ways to cross the map and attacks in the style of Devil My Cry In addition to many new tools and even AI-controlled hunting companions,
I have always been a fan of the Monster Hunter saga. I started with my dad's old PSP. Then I was able to play MH world thanks to my father giving it to me 5 years ago, and I still play it from time to time, but I always wanted to play MH rise more. I've never had the opportunity. What I like most are epic fights and playing with players from all over the world as allies
The reason I can't buy it is that I am a university student with limited resources in Central America, Costa Rica, and I have to reserve resources for things like food and study materials. Apart from that, I help my family from time to time, but I still have a little free time that I dedicate to playing video games with friends online. I always enjoy playing and relaxing, whether alone or with friends. It's the thing I love the most since I was a kid.
The game as a gift, I swear to play it a lot, getting the most out of it, and thank you for it with all my heart and soul. It would really make my year more bearable and enjoyable because I have wanted to play it for 3 years.
Seriously, if someone gift me this game I will play it for a long time, spending more than 130 hours. Thank you for reading my post and I wish you a splendid day :D

Dick's heart hammered against his chest like a pounding storm as he stood amidst the laboratory, flanked by Artemis and Barry Allen, the Flash. The weight of worry for Mar'i bore down on him unbearably, each moment without her amplifying his anxiety.
In the secluded closet hidden at the back of the lab, Dick and Artemis had found something haunting: a trove of withered seedlings, dead plants that looked alien in nature. Assuming the worst, but needing to confirm, Dick had quickly summoned a friend with a history of running genetic samples - none other than the Scarlet Speedster - to the scene.
Barry’s brow furrowed in concentration as he examined the specimens, having already run several tests.
“I'm limited in what I can do here; I'm a CSI, not a xenologist,” Barry admitted with regret, evoking his favourite chief medical officer of fiction. “Really, this really feels like a job for someone like Cadmus. Alien DNA is their whole deal.”
Dick could only grimace at the suggestion, reminded of the sickening experiments he had unearthed in the bowels of the Chicago cloning laboratory, of the dozens of aborted attempts at cloning Bruce Wayne. It was hard to stomach, especially knowing that he still had no idea who was responsible. “Not an option," he replied firmly. “Not Cadmus.”
Barry raised an eyebrow, his curiosity evident in his expression. “You don't believe those rumours about the Superboy clones, do you?" he asked. “They’re Reawakened through and through. Blame the other universes’ Cadmuses.”
In response, Dick shook his head. “It’s not that. It’s… something else.”
Barry then looked to Artemis and smiled. “It’s, uh… nice to meet you properly by the way,” he said. “I heard you, uh, shoot arrows.”
Despite the terrible situation they were in, Artemis allowed herself a snicker in response to the Flash’s awkwardness. “Among other things. It’s important to branch out, seeing as I know you already have an arrows guy.”
Just then, Tim emerged from behind a sliding door, draped in his red and black Rook gear, a stack of papers in hand. “Got the printouts you asked for,” he said, handing them over to Barry.
Barry swiftly flipped through the pages at super speed, his expression growing grim as he absorbed the information.
“What is it?” asked Artemis.
“What we feared,” he announced somberly. “The dead seedlings match the profile of alien species, with a significant DNA match for the Morning Eclipse sample you got from Starling’s fingernails.”
Dick's frustration boiled over, his voice dripping with anger. “Wilkof,” he spat, his jaw clenched in fury. “He let that damn killer plant loose.”
Tim struck himself in the shoulder in self-reproach. “I should've put it together sooner,” he muttered. “Wilkof knew plenty about Tamaran even before you let him speak to Mar’i.”
“It’s worse than we thought,” added Barry, and everyone’s blood turned cold. “This Dr Wilkof wasn't just releasing the Morning Eclipse, he was trying to propagate them; taking cuttings to grow more of them. We’re just lucky the Earth's sunlight is too diffuse for their growth.”
Dick's eyes widened in horror. “So he’s trying to create an army of killer plants?”
Barry nodded solemnly. “An army or a particularly menacing greenhouse.”
Artemis's brow furrowed as she pieced together a crucial detail. “Wait, a couple years ago they had me subbing in the bio department at school for a few months. I’m pretty sure plants grown from cuttings are meant to be genetically identical to the parent.”
Tim cursed under his breath and then reached for the printouts to give them a check over himself. “You’re right! Genetic variation only occurs after pollination. But these plants aren't self-pollinated. They're too distinct from the original sample taken from Mar'i’s attack.”
Barry's voice quivered as he raised a troubling possibility. “Could there be two adult killer plants on the loose?”
“No, it's not that,” Tim quickly replied again, his expression grave as he looked up from the stack of papers. “It's worse.”
Artemis' heart sank. “How could it possibly be worse?”
“The dead seedlings share identical DNA with each other. And every single one of their genes is present in the parent sample. But the parent also has additional chromosomes that all of the seedlings lack,” Tim explained as his eyes traced the text on the papers once more. “The parent had an extra 48 chromosomes.”
Barry's face paled. "48? Are you sure?”
“48? What does that mean?” asked Dick, looking rapidly back and forth between Tim and Barry.
Artemis gritted her teeth. “Humans have 48 chromosomes. The adult plant is half human.”
Fully human,” Barry corrected. “And fully plant too. A symbiosis.”
“What does that mean?” asked Dick, scared of the answer he would soon receive.
“It means I think Wilkof merged himself with the plant.”

🔹🔹 🪶 🔹🔹

Ker-tonk.
Ker-tonk.
Ker-tonk.
Mar’i lay in the darkness of the car’s trunk, helpless. She couldn’t tell how long it had been since she last felt the sun’s warmth on her skin. She tried to summon childhood memories of Tamaran, of the sun her father had found oppressive and her mother found liberating. But they were distant and blurred, echoes from another lifetime - and another timeline.
As the car rumbled on, she focused on her senses, trying to glean any information about her surroundings. The air was stale and musty, tinged with the scent of oil and rubber. The vibrations of the road beneath her reverberated through her body, a constant reminder of her captivity.
Eventually, the car came to a halt, and Mar’i braced herself as the trunk door creaked open, flooding the confined space with blinding light. Blinking rapidly, she squinted against the harsh glare, feeling the rejuvenating solar rays bathing her, a stark contrast to the cold darkness of her confinement.
Dr Wilkof loomed over her, his appearance now almost normal except for a slight pallor that hinted at something darker beneath the surface. He reached out, his hands enveloping her wrists, which were bound with withered rope. Thick, barbed vines extended from the sleeves of his coat, renewing her restraints and further draining what little power reserves she had left.
As he dragged her up out of the trunk, Mar’i found herself in the midst of a desolate car park, surrounded by nothing but empty space and the looming silhouette of a large hangar. She had nary a clue of where they were.
“It will be easier if you don’t struggle,” he said, his tone devoid of joy or malice, as if he were simply stating a fact. But Mar’i knew better than to trust his words.
As Wilkof led her towards the hangar, Mar’i stumbled along behind him, the vines around her wrists taut like a leash. She tried to reason with him, to appeal to the vestiges of his humanity buried beneath the madness that gripped him.
“You don’t have to do this,” she implored, unsure of how much of his humanity really remained. “The plant doesn’t have to control you.”
Wilkof's eyes gleamed with a haunted fervour as he shook his head, the vines’ grip tightening around Mar'i’s wrists. “I've sacrificed too much to stop now,” he muttered. Those words carried a strange quality, like they weren’t fully his. Maybe it was the plant talking, maybe they were words he had rehearsed to himself enough times for them to become hollow. “I won’t let it all be in vain.”
For a moment, Mar’i was left to wonder what he meant by that. Then she remembered what little she knew about him, and a shiver ran down her spine. (He had fed the rest of his team from the lab to the plant, a grim sacrifice to fuel his delusions of grandeur.*
“No one cared about mild-mannered Hunter Wilkof,” he continued, his voice cracking with bitterness. “The plant promised to make me someone special, to make me famous.”
Mar’i shook her head in disbelief as she continued to be lugged along. “The plant doesn’t speak,” she insisted with a rising urgency. “Its pheromones mess with your mind, make you see and hear things that aren’t there.”
But Wilkof brushed off her words with a scoff. “I don’t care,” he replied, his gaze fixed on the hangar ahead. “I fed the plant like I was told, but the fame never came. I let it eat the only thing I ever loved. But… nothing changed.”
Her heart yearned to find some way to free him of the plant’s clutches, to help him see the light, but she knew well what desperation could do to a person, if left unchecked. She knew how far someone could fall.
“Then I realised… I wasn’t meant for prizes and celebrity,” he continued, deranged. “That wasn’t what the plant had planned for us. It’s just like you said in your Tamaranean fairy tale, the Morning Eclipse and its legend. I knew we were meant for infamy, but just one plant and its keeper wouldn’t do the trick. We needed a bigger family.”
At this point, Hunter stopped, and the pair had finally reached the mouth of the hangar. Mar’i searched through the darkness, but was struggling to see straight at all thanks to the toxic, draining effect of her Morning Eclipse vine restraints.
Wilkof just stared into the darkness, and continued. “I tried taking cuttings, but no matter how much blood, meat or southern exposure I gave them… it wasn’t enough, and they wilted. It wouldn’t tell me why it wasn’t working, and all I knew was that the plant was from Tamaran,” he confessed, his voice growing hoarse with emotion. “So I went to look for Starfire, but she was in space. And then… then I found you. A hybrid like me.”
But throughout Hunter’s grim confession, Mar’i was still missing some important details. “How did you know the plant was from Tamaran?” She defied him, “It doesn’t have a mind of its own, so it couldn’t have told you.”
Hunter smiled. “I used to drive out into the countryside and just leave my car behind, go for these long walks to clear my head when city life got too much,” he explained, a shroud of something resembling peace slowly falling over him. “I always felt guilty for it, reasoning I should have been spending that time in the lab, looking for ways to help people. But this one day, a few years ago now, I realised it was all worth it.”
He then pulled a remote from his pocket and pressed a button at its centre. As the lights of the hangar flickered to life, they revealed a magnificent sight, something Mar’i immediately recognised as a First Class Vegan Star Cruiser - a Tamaranean space vessel from the shipyards of Okaara - resplendent in hues of silver and violet. The ship stood tall and proud, a beacon of extraterrestrial wonder amidst the mundane surroundings of the hangar. But why was it here? And how did Wilkof have it?
He gestured towards the ship with an odd gleam in his eyes. “Suddenly, and without warning, this spaceship came crashing down through the sky just a couple of miles away, out here, where it was just me there to see it,” he explained. “So I rushed over, I searched the wreckage… and that’s where I found it. It was only a sapling, a baby really, and it called out to me. I knew I needed to take it home, back to the lab, back for testing.”
Mar’i shook her head. How was he to have known back then that the plant was pulling his strings?
“I stashed the ship away, knowing its potential,” he confessed. “The ship’s computer confirmed its origins: Tamaran. Apparently it even used to belong to a princess named Komand’r.”
Mar’i's mind raced as she processed this revelation. Komand’r - also known as the tyrant queen Blackfire - was Koriand’r’s sister, and Mar’i’s aunt. Someone she had already come across early in her time in this universe. Then, just in time for him to answer it without her asking, Mar’i happened upon another awful question.
“I got some guys in to make repairs, and another guy to… basically hotwire the thing, before I fed them all to the plant. But the ship won’t fly without one final security measure,” continued Hunter, his gaze fixed on Mar’i. “A pilot with Tamaranean DNA.”

🔹🔹 🪶 🔹🔹

Back in the lab, Dick, Artemis and Tim continued to put the pieces together, now sans Barry who had raced off to join Wally in combing the city for either Mar’i or the Morning Eclipse, not knowing that both were far from the city limits.
“Why Mar’i?” Dick demanded. “What does Wilkof want with her? Her Starbolts could be used to fuel the plant and its cuttings, but that’d only make a difference at night, when they can’t get sunlight for themselves.”
Artemis nodded in agreement. “Surely they can survive a night without sunlight,” she surmised. “So what else would he come to Mar’i for?”
“Could it be her DNA?” posed Tim. “Maybe he has a use for DNA from a Tamanrean.”
“What kind of uses?” asked Dick. It wouldn’t be that, but his mind once again returned to the cloning vats of Cadmus. “No, it’s not that.”
“Then what else could it be?” Artemis sighed, frustrated. All of this analysis, brainstorming and scheming, and they were no closer to finding the missing Titan.
Then, Dick’s face blanched with fear. “She knows the way,” he said simply, his voice barely above a whisper.
“The way to what?” asked Tim, his own anxiety rising.
“To Tamaran,” Dick replied with dread. “A place where the sun shines bright enough for a hundred Morning Eclipses.”

🔹🔹 🪶 🔹🔹

In the dimly lit interior of what was once her aunt Komand'r's ship, Mar'i's heart raced with fear and uncertainty, now strapped into her seat beside the demented Dr Wilkof. The vessel, a marvel of Vega System technology, exuded an otherworldly aura, its sleek silver surfaces shimmering with an ethereal glow. Yet, to Mar'i, it felt more like a prison than a wonder.
She couldn't shake the sense of dread that gripped her. Tamaran, a place she once called home, now loomed before her as an unfamiliar and foreboding destination. She knew of the tumultuous history of this universe's Tamaran, the tales of military coups and the reign of the Orange Lantern Larfleeze, all of which added to her apprehension. The planet had hundreds of Morning Eclipses, but none had ever merged with a sapient vessel before. The killer plants were best survived by being completely ignored, which wouldn’t be possible with an intelligent host scheming and bringing the plants to their vulnerable prey. Could she inflict that threat on Tamaran?
Wilkof's jubilant smile did little to assuage her fears as he spoke. “When we reach the planet - with its gleaming sun - I’ll have everything I need. I'll create more Morning Eclipses, genetically superior ones, and they will bond with Tamaranean vessels to enhance their intelligence. And then there’ll be no more sacrifices, just feeding.”
Mar'i's stomach churned at the thought of being complicit in Wilkof's madness. But she also knew that she was in no position to bargain. And he knew it.
With a heavy heart and a sense of resignation, Mar'i steeled herself for the task ahead and the ship hummed to life around them, hurtling toward an uncertain destiny.
Then, as they quickly hit sonic speed, Hunter turned to his pilot and prisoner, keen to share a thought he hoped would bring her peace. “I want you to know… once we get to Tamaran, I’ll never have to return to Earth again. Don’t think about where we’re going, think about what we’re leaving behind. This is you saving planet Earth.”

2024.05.16 11:56 ALDO113A Help a struggling Christian (me) deal with this deconstruction of Paul and Bible-era perception of same-sex intercourse (basically saying "That kinda sex emasculates, and that's terrible") by AcademicBiblical if you can?

I was shared this while on a thankfully civilized talk. Here's the link, but I'll clean up the original text to be more digestible, maybe alter a few of it.
https://www.reddit.com/AcademicBiblical/comments/1c5ucxj/response_to_sikers_analysis_of_homosexuality_in
Here goes
1. Siker seems to be offering a scholarly version of Matthew Vines' argument
It being "Paul can't be condemning what we think of as committed loving homosexual relationships, because he was thinking of bad things like prostitution or uncontrolled-lust homosexuality."
So, the idea is to claim that Paul's letters can't be enlisted to authorize contemporary homophobia since he wouldn't have known about the kinds of relationships gay Christians want to have now.
I appreciate the contemporary ethics of Siker's approach since homophobia is dehumanizing and harmful, but the idea that this approach inherently reflects "liberal leanings" (Siker's claim) ignores how plenty of liberals reject homophobia without trying to enlist and sanitize the Bible as support.
2. I disagree with the Innocent Paul claim as Vines postulated
It is true that Greek, Roman, and Jewish sources do not often feature something resembling "a committed loving queer sexual relationship," but this is where confusion often sets in; there must be a distinction between
According to dominant ideals, powerful men were supposed to actively penetrate those below themselves on the social and gender hierarchy; a man who delighted in being penetrated by another man was by relative definition effeminate, and thus not to be celebrated. Women loving and sexually engaging with other women meant they weren't being used by (the right) men, and thus Greek and Roman writers tended to disparage, ridicule, and reframe female homoeroticism.
But our texts aren't direct sociological data, they reflect and think with dominant sexual ideologies, which by definition erased/reframed divergent sexual and gender expressions. This is why the likes of Amy Richlin,[1] Bernadette Brooten,[2] Deborah Kamen and Sarah Levin-Richardson,[3] and Jimmy Hoke**[4]** have argued that even though our sources erase, reframe, and distort people who liked any non-normative sex and relationships in Mediterranean antiquity, they still existed.
Bottom line: Writers like Paul could certainly have been aware of queer sexualities and relationships that were not enslaved prostitution or pederasty. Folks like Vines and Siker unintentionally reinscribe the association between homoeroticism and pedophilia/sexual violence.
For what it's worth, everyone should read Richlin's article from 30 years ago. Doesn't matter whether you agree with all of her arguments, it's brilliant scholarship.
3. Corpus point of view
There's a related debate about whether our texts even have a category for something like sexual orientation or simply imagine sex via other grids like active vs. passive/penetrator vs. penetrated (e.g., see Craig Williams' excellent sketch of these paradigms in Roman literature**[5]**).
The most common scholarly opinion in terms of Greco-Roman antiquity gender-sex studies is that our sources don't reflect ideas like sexual orientation, so orientational categories aren't historically helpful for reading our texts.
Other scholars like Richlin and Brooten have critiqued these positions, though they still forcefully argue that our sources thought with overtly hierarchical patriarchal ideologies about sex, like penetrator and penetrated. This final point is something on which Richlin is often misrepresented, which is bizarre since she wrote one of the classic books for understanding such dominant sexual ideologies.[6]
4. Paul Romana
Romans 1:18-32's basic point is that Paul discussed the total moral failure of Gentiles by sketching their (feminizing) descent into being dominated by their passions, one of the resultant illustrations of the Gentiles being their domination by their passions through transgressing the gendered order, exemplified by Gentile men losing sexual control of "their women" (i.e., these men are failed men from this angle) and each other in 1:26-27 - an inversion of the normative sexual order.
Paul treated male-male anal penetration as a straight illustration of Gentile corruption and domination by their passions. It's part of his grander point that Gentiles became (effeminately) enslaved by their passions (see Stanley Stowers' classic articulation of this decline-of-civilization reading of Rom 1:18-32**[7]**).
The key issue here is that there's no literary reason to think he only had in mind enslaved prostitution or pederasty, ANY male-male anal penetration upended the normative gender order. If anything, he might have indicated elsewhere that free men penetrating (raping) their slaves (gender irrelevant) was okay since that use of slaves was acceptable within many moral schemes; Paul never objected to it, and some passages potentially align with treating enslaved humans as legitimate non-marriage sexual outlets (e.g., as argued by Jennifer Glancy**[8]** regarding 1 Thess 4:4's εἰδέναι ἕκαστον ὑμῶν τὸ ἑαυτοῦ σκεῦος κτᾶσθαι("that each of you know his own vessel to possess in sanctification and honor")).
5. Linguistic flexibility
There's no reason to limit οὔτε μαλακοὶ οὔτε ἀρσενοκοῖται of 1 Cor 6:9 to prostitution; "malakos" means "soft"/"effeminate." In Greek texts, it often does refer to men who are penetrated sexually - obviously effeminizing - but a man who was unrestrained or excessive in his penetrating of women is likewise an example of "effeminate" in Greek sources.
ἀρσενοκοίτης's meaning remains debated, but the etymological game of making it "man-bedders" is problematic; rather than get bogged down in this lexical discussion, the larger point regarding Siker is, again, that the issue of whether "committed same-sex relationships" are in view is irrelevant.
Paul listed effeminate Gentiles as those who will not inherit the kingdom of God; a male prostitute is by definition effeminate for these discourses, but so would a man in a "committed same-sex relationship" who is anally penetrated.
6. Futility
I don't get why "liberal-leaning" scholars think they can salvage a moral Bible by handwaving Paul's (what we can redescribe as) homophobia, even if all of Siker's claims were true, Paul's logic is entirely premised on reprehensibly misogynist gender ideologies that animate his other arguments, so even trying to save the dude from Those Two Bad Verses leaves you with the steaming animal manure that is said premise.
Hope this helps!

2024.05.16 11:23 shouldiworryless Am I (M28) just messing with a good thing, or is my GF (F27) being weird

I’ve been dating my current girlfriend for 6 months, and things have gone great so far. We go on cute dates, do things for each other, and she challenges me to be a better version of myself.
For context, My previous relationship ended after almost 9 years due to being cheated on and it caused me to lose confidence in myself and my trust in others. I’ve been working on my mental health the past year and a half, and after a while I felt comfortable getting back out there and trying again. This is where I met my current girlfriend, after going on a few not so successful dates with some other people online.
From the start she’s been kind and someone I can easily talk to. However, she’s very stern about certain things and thinks very differently than I do. For instance she still messages one of her ex’s. They dated years ago and live in different states now. He has a fiancé and they seem happy from what’s she’s told me. I believe she shared that to reassure me, as this has been a point of contention for us. She says she brags about me to him and I shouldn’t worry.
For the most part I have accepted that they’re just friends, as she and I fought over this before. She said that she feels like she can’t share part of her life with me (her friends) because she doesn’t like the way I react. My face “changes” when she mentions her guy friends or this ex in particular. Or that’s what she tells me.
I really don’t mind that she has guy friends, but the ex thing seems weird at times. Like I was under the impression that he knew more about us since she brags about us, but she told me yesterday as she was laughing that he didn’t even know my name until that day..? When I brought this up she said it was because she didn’t want to share too much until it was more serious. But she said she’s already thinking about rings.
But I also haven’t ever seen her socials. Granted, I don’t really use them myself but she’s pretty active on hers. I’m afraid of the absolute worst at times. We don’t Snapchat (I actually have one of those), she doesn’t send me selfies.
Like for instance she got a Snapchat notification saying “so&so added you back!” But her telling me she doesn’t know who it was and she doesn’t remember adding them.
That last one is kinda close to how I kind out my ex was cheating on me last time… But I said maybe it’s from before we started dating. And she said that must be it.
My fear is that she wasn’t maybe fully committed to me for the first few months we dated or something? Maybe?
I know I’m still insecure and I still have things to work on but right now it’s very Late and I’m up thinking about everything.
I have recently started therapy so I know I still have work to do.
It’s only been six months and I really do love her. I feel differently for her than I ever did for my ex. I see a future with her and she has been so very patient with me so far these past 6 months but are these red flags? Posting here just for opinions and maybe some advice. I don’t want to talk to people I know IRL about this. I know I want to be with her, I’m certain there, I’m just maybe looking to see if my feelings are valid
TL;DR my gf texts her ex and other guys and sends them snapchats but not me. We’ve been dating for 6 months and her ex just now learned my name despite them talking often. Red flags?

2024.05.16 10:57 WaferStraight5029 Running out of patience. Any advice? m28 f27

Hello,
In short, I have a good relationship. My girlfriend and I love each other very much, we have tons of things in common, tons of things to talk about, and if we were both people who just wanted to finish school, get a job, have some kids and be good with life, everything would be peachy.
But that's not the case. We both want to achieve more in life. My girlfriend has her own online business that she's about to start earning money with, and I have my writing going on. Problem is; my girlfriend has a big problem. Work ethic. Sure, it's her business, but I'm spending my limited free time (I have a full time day job) trying to help her keep this one bomber partner she has, that she can be earning money with very soon, good money, good for a startup business that just got started. I'm talking about 'I could maybe quit my job, stay home and just help her out with that' kind of money. Earning money with this partner would give me more free time, and I could finally spend some proper hours a day writing again.
I wish things were this easy, but it seems I'm the one who has to do the heavy lifting for the company while she's trying out dozens of plans to get a routine going; without a routine, she can't work apparently. This usually means trying out something for a day or two, then slowly quitting and going back to spending too much of her time watching shorts/reels whatever internet bs. Meanwhile I work 8 hours a day, plus 3 hours of writing if I'm lucky, plus anywhere between 2-3 hours of working on the business. The rest of the time is spend dealing with daily tasks, or keeping her company and entertained because she's an expat, and even though we both aren't the uber social types, I feel guilty knowing she doesn't have her own friends living here.
In short; not only is my time to chase my dreams limited because I'm working full time to support the both of us (she is at a stage where she could look for work too), but the things my girlfriend is trying out, like starting her own business (on which she'd obviously work while I'm out of the house at work too), are actively keeping me away from my writing more, because not only does she not really do any work for it, I'M the one who has to keep the whole thing afloat. On top of that I do half the chores and can very easily be led astray by her if she wants to do something else or spent time with me because I feel guilty for her situation.
What do I do here? Should I just let the partnership she has die? That would free up some of my time, but preferably I'd have a chance at it earning me more free time in the hopefully near future. Even yesterday, after coming home from a late evening shift of 8 hours (at like 11 pm), I had to sit down until 3 am to videocall with partner she has, and do some of the work, while I was planning on doing some writing and going to sleep relatively early so I could get out early, leading to me only being able to get up at 8 this morning, and then immediately being railroaded into an almost 2 hour talking session while I have to get back to work at 2:30 pm (this doesn't mean that after the convo, so like at 10, I could continue writing. No, this means that after we're done talking, she goes on her phone, and I find myself being too stressed to write, out of fear of losing that partner and that potential income stream, so I'm automatically drawn to working on the business).
Things I've tried to fix her; having patience and allowing her to do her thing for weeks, maybe months.
Confronting her and telling her how I feel about things, several steps away from begging her to just do her part about caring for us.
Trying to give her tips and help her set goals to get started.
None of these worked, and aside from just letting her be, the other plans of action just seem to make her upset and feel like a failure.
TLDR: girlfriend has horrible work ethic problems.

Ullu Se Vashikaran: Strange Owl-Minded Control Techniques in A World Not Our Own
Wildness and all its mystery are about the owls, in which they are rich in cultures and the identity of history. As mentioned in some Indian spiritual beliefs, owls really have supernatural ability to control minds and behaviors of other people through Shushe said ullu (owl) vashikaran or spiritual mind control of owls.
Ullu Se Vashikaran
It is not known exactly where the roots of association with owls and vashikaran are, but some researchers claim that they are based on running for centuries on ancient tantric beliefs. It is as per the study that owls are fundamentally the most effective in the alter of the intensity of subtle energies and psychic forces that used in rites to control of thoughts, and also the human's free will according to the esoteric teaching One the tantricization aghori the sect, which is the lowest make the vishal se vashikaran ritual, and it is useful for the dominating
The discovery of the means by which the mind control rituals are conducted, namely the involvement of owls, is mostly obscure for the people sitting outside and ignorant of the use of owls. The knowledge is considered exclusive, transmitted by the inspired gurus to the disciples by direct transmission.
Sometimes they cast spells on people by wearing feathered owl trikes, bones or eggshell powder with magical owl prayers to turn their soul into the owl soul. through the messengers of Owl, the devotees acquire the freedom of thought and hence the strange forces are believed to control their emotions, influence their behavior and distract their consciousness.
Though unconventional tantrika assured that owel based vashikaran is not only working for handling thoughts but also for resolving the subconscious drives and memories. The capacity along with owel' dark and nocturnal kind as well as night vision is an ability to enter the background of psyche.
A tantrika believes that such a mental access leads to the darkest core of the self and, from it, they can get at all hidden memories and truths in order to perform the most delicate mind manipulations with the critical psychologies and behaviors. This divination can be abused in the hands of the unethical as a way to exert power and control, manipulate the minds, and hypnotize without consent. However, Edda's vevenaran portrays the picture of ethics fails to be clear openly.
The critics belittle brain-worm control undertaken by owls through practices that they characterize as superstitions and called science-less activities. Without noticing any connection, they postulate the non-existence of empirical or trial evidence proving the authenticity of owl minds that are used in controlling thoughts.
On the other hand, believers also argue, that what they see as dangerous elements of humanities are supposed to be protected from what science does not understand at this moment. Of course, the enigma that rituals have is that it simultaneously creates interest and confusion because this peculiar element of occultism is the subject of this process.
The enactment of the spell in ullu se vashikaran evokes several emotional reactions such as ranging from sceptical scientific view to amazement over magic to ethical issues which make us think on how a person is going to be treated in the society. Members of the fringe Indian spiritual subcultures even today sometimes disagree about the real existence, appropriateness, and the morality of the owl if it is a part of the rituals that can provide psychic control, mainly as the belief of them (the occult).
In the deep side of knowledge, Tantric Washikaran is referred to as the dark arts, with empirical evidences meager and counters nonexistent. Human nature itself and the ‘black magics’ developed for control of a human mind via the owl occult powers could forever remain incomprehensible and even unexplained to the general public who does not step into the world of occultism.
The owl obliged the capability of seeing into the hearts of people, and it was believed that the owl's injecting of unintentional inwardness could affect the decisions of the unfortunate, and this was regulated by the mysterious nature of the owl.

2024.05.16 09:59 MiserableLie5976 What are your expenditure raising alternatives to the gym?

What are your expenditure raising alternatives to the gym?
Feel free to skip to the last paragraph to see a tl;dr
If you couldn’t already tell from the title i am not a big fan of the gym, like i don’t like the environment, the sweat, the busyness, the heat when i train or the idea of the place in general. When i used to go back in the day it was with friends which made it more bearable (i treated it more like a social activity) but that is no longer an option as we are all graduating this summer.
I also do like food, i was obese for a huge part of my life, from the time i was a child till 16-17 (now 21). Thankfully i am no longer obese but the love for food is still strong and i crave a lot of things and in many cases unable to control said cravings.
tl;dr Recently my expenditure has been going down, and to continue losing weight from all the cravings i have indulged in i either need to eat less (which i find very hard nowadays) or increase my expenditure. I am looking at the latter and i know gym is great for expenditure increase as you build muscles which burn more energy even while you are sitting down, but again i really don’t like it. So are there any alternatives you can think of? Or Will I have to bite the bullet on one of them? Current expenditure is 2055, age is 21, height 185cm (6’1) and weight has increased since start of the year from 83kg (182 pounds) to almost 90kg (198 pounds). My best weight was around 77kg (160-170 pounds)

2024.05.16 09:50 markoj22 Personal Perspective: New lessons learned about THC long into a medical career.

KEY POINTS

Working with patients and their families for the past nine years as a medical cannabis practitioner has been extremely gratifying in many surprising ways.
After 30-plus years in the ER and urgent care setting, providing one-time, episodic interventions and rarely seeing the same patient again, I now have accrued a roster of hundreds of ongoing patients, many of whom I have continued to treat since I began as a registered cannabis practitioner in 2016.
The conversations we have, mostly about their positive responses to using medical cannabis but about so many other aspects of life, politics, and their illnesses, have become a very important part of my own life. These dialogues have brought me closer to the patients, their families, and their caregivers and have been instrumental in my ever-deepening understanding of and appreciation for the vast array of benefits that medical cannabis provides.
It’s been a tremendously important and enriching experience and, in addition, has rekindled my interest in biochemistry, neurotransmitters, and brain anatomy, subjects that I last explored during medical school.
Most remarkable has been the array of patients I’ve met who have taken me into their lives. Advising patients about medical cannabis has brought me into contact with a stratum of people I would otherwise probably never have access to. They have ranged from corporate CEOs, attorneys, and others wanting a medical cannabis card so they wouldn’t get arrested with illicit products to people with devastating and debilitating autoimmune diseases or those with terminal cancer.
Regardless of where along the health and socioeconomic spectrum my patients lie, there has been a consistent attitude that I became aware of early on when the law legalizing medical cannabis first went into effect.
I’m referring to an openness to trying cannabis. These patients, their families, and their caregivers haven’t been taken in by the nearly 90-year-old propaganda onslaught against the plant. Either they laughed at the “killer weed” characterizations, were open-minded enough to see or know others for whom it worked, or, especially in the many elderly patients I see, they’d already tried everything else before they came to me. They clearly had not gotten relief for an array of symptoms caused by their underlying diseases and were willing to give medical cannabis a shot.
As they have seen its benefits, this has formed a unique bond between many of us, an understanding and camaraderie in that we are partaking in something still considered forbidden and illegal in many corners of the globe. Yet we know that despite that condemnation, we have access to something that, as so many of them say, is “life-changing.”
I had realized early on in the ER and Urgent Care setting the need for abbreviated interactions. The conversations and observations that transpired in those settings helped my interventions there to provide the best immediate therapeutic relief. Even though they were often brief (of necessity), these experiences also led to many of the stories I wrote and were published. Now, in this late-in-life career choice, the longer conversations that I can pursue provide me incredible insights into the workings of the cannabis plant and provoke me to try to understand what I’m being told by patients or their caregivers about their observations on what taking cannabis is like.
I seem to learn the most from my “cannabis naive” patients, those who have never used the plant. They will describe the process of finding that “sweet spot,” discovering the therapeutic regimen that gives them the relief they seek, bringing them back to where they’d been before their illness struck. And, whether this happens in a day or a week or longer, the story is similar to hearing someone describe an epiphany.
I can no longer count the times I’ve been told: “I now go through the day without pain and have to remind myself that it’s from the cannabis tincture I take every morning.”
I’m reminded of a patient who’d come to me for treatment of severe chronic back pain. When I asked, with concern, how the high THC product he took every morning for that pain affected him at work, he recounted how, as a computer programmer, he was tasked with coming up with solutions to various program challenges. He told me that using cannabis allowed him to find answers he would not have seen otherwise.
Or the successful businessman with Crohn’s disease who, before using cannabis at work, would be debilitated by his flares. Now, four or five years into his involvement in the program, when he senses a flare coming on, he uses a very well-controlled dose of his high-THC cannabis, and shortly thereafter, he dives right back into caring for his customers, pain-free and focused.
I also have a patient with USHER 3 syndrome, a degenerative disease ultimately causing deafness and blindness. She has compared her taking cannabis to being in a dark room and having the lights go on.
Several patients with severe pain syndromes, overweight and out of shape (and scheduled to have surgery for resolution of their symptoms), have found that as cannabis increasingly resolved their pain, they became more active, lost weight, had even less pain, and ultimately (for several, now six or seven years into using cannabis) have been able to avoid going under the knife.
I have another patient, a writer with severe anxiety and some cognitive issues, whom I saw recently in follow-up, a year into treatment with cannabis. She is much more focused, conversant, and happy, interacting with family and caregivers in a much more positive way, and no longer abusing alcohol.
Another, a teacher with Autism Spectrum Disorder, told me he has been able to escape the destructive route older generations in his family had chosen, using alcohol to try and treat their symptoms. Instead, he has adopted a cannabis regimen to effectively control his ASD.
I also must mention the great help my colleagues and I are seeing that cannabis can provide for many of the symptoms of dementia.
It is my hope that those of us practitioners in the world of medical cannabis can continue to educate the public and break down the stigma surrounding cannabis. Hopefully, as well, governments will move forward in rescheduling (or de-scheduling) cannabis so that more patients can benefit from its therapeutic potential.
This brings me back to my last patient and the question about THC and wisdom:
I recently saw a middle-aged man, a Hasidic Jew, with inflammatory bowel disease. He found that medical cannabis could be very helpful in controlling his IBD flares. In addition, when we were on a follow-up call a few months after he began taking medical cannabis, he asked me something.
“Dr. Weinberg,” he asked, “does THC give you wisdom?”
I was intrigued by the question and asked back, “Why, what do you mean?”
“Well,” he said, “I’ve been reading Talmud all my life, and there have always been passages I don’t understand.” He paused. “But when I take my medical cannabis, and I go back to my studies, I get it! I understand the meaning of those passages. And it’s not because I’m high! Both my wife and the rabbi agree that my insights are valid and profound.”
Knowing the many references to cannabis in ancient Hebrew (and other spiritual) texts, I shouldn’t have been surprised at his question. I was delighted, however, and am eager to pass this insight along to others as we hopefully advance our knowledge of the many benefits of the cannabis plant.
