What do we think about at home allergy testing kits?

2024.05.16 15:31 Tasha198 What do we think about at home allergy testing kits?

Basically what the title says.
Been intrigued in doing an at home allergy test on my dog, he's generally fine, but would be interesting to see if there was something that low key bothers him that I don't know about.
Heard that they could be a bit of a gimmick where the dog ends up being allergic to everything.
Scam or useful?
Edit- Species: dog Age: 2 Sex: male neutered Breed: cockapoo Body weight: 10kg History: ear infections Clinical signs: itchy skin Duration: N/A Location: UK

2024.05.16 15:26 Sensitive_Hippo_8959 AITAH for arguing with my dad's girlfriend over my sisters meds.

Context:
I'm 20M. And my sister is in her late teens. This all happened just under a month ago, in late April. My great grandfather had passed away the week before, so myself, my mum and my stepdad. All travelled to visit my mum's side of the family and attend his funeral. (I wasn't close to him, I was going to support my mum.)
My sister decided she wouldn't be able to handle the emotional time at the funeral, so we had made plans for her to stay one night at a friend's, and another at our dad's. A quick note about myself and my sister: We both struggled with mental health issues, and while I'm mostly over mine, my sister has been struggling alot more heavily. And in the worst possible way, if you catch my drift. (She often goes looking for objects that can hurt her, and she doesn't like that she does it.)
Anyway, because of some complications, my sister ended having to stay with our dad both nights. And keep in mind, this was just hours after me, my mum, stepdad, nan and grandad had arrived back at my Nan and Grandad's. After we had just buried my mum's grandad.
We got a call from my sister, saying that she had gone to her friend's anyway. And that was fine. The problem was when we were told that my dad's girlfriend was refusing to bring my sister's medication to her (My dad had gotten a migraine, and he couldn't do it himself, he had it for 3 days, after the fact, including his birthday.) Which resulted in my mum trying to console my sister over the phone for an hour. While also trying to message my dad about it. (I was in the room, so I could hear what was going on)
And my sister told us that my dad's GF had said, and I quote: "If you and your mum are so concerned about your medication, she can come back home and get it herself." Which basically sent my sister into a worried panic. My sister's, friend's mum. Had to pick up the medication. (We were a 4 hours drive away, and it was almost 9pm by the time this all went down.)
The actual event: The Friday after we had gotten back from my Nan's house. I had woken up to find that she had sent me a message, and I had not been involved up until this point. It was strictly between my sister, my mum, dad, and my dad's gf.
The following is a transcript I have saved from the WhatsApp messages she sent me (I have screenshots of the proper messages if need be.):
Dads GF: Your dad has spent most of the last three days in bed completely out of it, including his birthday. Sister hasn't said 'happy birthday'. Neither of you have asked how he is or dropped/sent a card as a minimum. You are 20 in a few weeks. It's disgusting.
Me: You want to talk disgusting. Try not bringing medicine to a mentally disabled kid who needs them, and yes, I know dad was under with a migraine and still is. I have them myself so i get it, but that is no damn excuse for the way you've been acting. and I sent dad a message. We even have presents and cards for him, and were going to drop them round if we couldn't go see him. I've done nothing but try to be nice to you, so why tf are you insulting me.
Dad's GF: I'm not even going to go down the route of your sisters behaviour! I will have nothing to do with her or social services. At 20 you couldn't collect them and take them to her? She chose to call social on her dad who slept next to her all night to keep her safe. She's capable of coming to get her medication. Don't contact me.
Me: Wtf, you contacted me first!
I had done this exchange with my mum and stepdad in the room, and they both oversaw the conversation and what I was saying. I've been feeling quite stressed about it still and am just wondering if I overstepped. Or if I was being fair.
AITAH?
Edit: My sister has always had problems going over to my dad's. She doesn't feel like it's a home to her, and this isn't the first time that my dad's GF has been confrontational with my sister. And as much as my dad really wants my sister to be comfortable there, they've been having alot of troubles.

2024.05.16 15:24 tinybeetch Weirdos in Myrtle Beach

I contemplated sharing all of these since the first two happened so long ago, but they’re eerie enough that I think that they should be shared. I have two stories from when I was young, when I was around age 5-6. Though they were over 20 years ago, the first one I remember vividly and the other occurred later yet I can’t recall that one much at all. However, my mom tells that story like it was yesterday so I’m pretty sure my brain blocked it out or something.
So for context, my mom had me when she was 20 and was a single parent for a while. My father was completely out of the picture, so we lived with her childhood best friend in different apartments when I was young. So one night, it was dark but not extremely late (like 7-8) and I was coloring in the kitchen while my mom was in another room. I vividly remember a knock coming from the sliding glass door only a few feet away from where I was. I turned to see a middle aged man with a sinister smile, pointing at the handle to let him in. I immediately screamed, which scared this guy off, and my mom ran in and called the cops. My mom later told me he was peeping at her and her best friend for a while but this was the first time I had seen him and that he attempted to come in. Apparently he had left… evidence that he was there a couple of times but I don’t think the cops ever got him. But the rest of the time we lived there, my mom had security from her job (House of Blues) sleep over a lot for protection.
The next encounter is one I don’t remember happening but the story still terrifies me because of what might be out there and how easily these things can happen. It was a different apartment, like a townhouse, but only a few blocks away from where the other thing happened. There was a couple that lived across the street and my mom always got very strange vibes from them. The man would openly stare at me (around age 6) and my mom’s best friend’s niece (who was 11) when she would stay over, which would prompt my mom to angrily yell at him for being creepy for staring at us the way he was, calling him a perv. My mom’s best friend thought she was being paranoid but then at some point, I was playing outside, and that same man lured me over into his apartment with his dog. It didn’t take long for my mom to notice I was gone… it wasn’t even 10 minutes before she ran over to come get me. The couple acted like nothing was wrong and that I just wanted to see their dog but she freaked out on them. When we were home, I told her that he took pictures of me with their dog and she called the cops. They were kicked out but the pictures were never found… which creeps me the hell out to this very day.
The most recent creepy encounter was also with my mom but it was about 6 months ago. I’m still not sure if this was us being paranoid or if we were being followed but it felt wrong. We went to the mall looking for shoes for my wedding and started at Belk. My mom had to use the restroom so I went off on my own and while I was browsing, I got annoyed with this guy wearing a baseball hat because he seemed to be constantly in my way or hovering. It struck me as odd that he kept ending up around me in the women’s shoes section and I got annoyed with him quickly, shooting him a glare that seemed to back him off a bit.
The aisles for shoes are short so I noticed him walking toward another man with a newsboy cap on the other side of the section with his arms crossed. I wouldn’t have thought much of it except the two spoke briefly before baseball cap guy made another round through the section. I’m not sure how to put it but they seemed out of place, like almost dirty or something, and I felt weirded out so I pulled out my phone to text my husband and pretended to look busy until my mom came back. She eyed the baseball cap guy lingering around but I felt much safer when she arrived, and I loudly complained a bit about the selection and “surroundings” so we headed somewhere else.
We went into a bunch of different stores and when we were on the other side of the mall at an Earthbound (trendy hippie store if you’re unfamiliar), my mom made a loud comment how she kept seeing a guy in the same stores we were in. In the moment, even though I did have a strange feeling, I waved it off to keep browsing since I don’t go to the mall often and wanted to enjoy the day with my mom. She said she must be going crazy when I blew it off but the next store was when my mom’s suspicions grew into a serious full blown anxiety attack.
I honestly was still oblivious to this guy but I saw how she was looking around a lot, had us weaving through people and quickly going down aisles. Like I said, I still wasn’t paying attention to the people around us so I bought a couple of things but as soon as I had my bags, my mom yanked me and rushed us out.
While we were walking, she grew serious, kept glancing behind us and told me how she didn’t feel right about this guy with a newsboy cap and thought we were being followed. I took a look back for myself and sure enough, the man she described, and I finally recognized him as the same guy I briefly saw in Belk an hour or so ago, just left the same store we did and was walking toward us. He was by himself, looking down, carrying no shopping bags. We ducked into the first store we came across and the employees picked up on our frantic and nervous energy. When asked if we were okay, we told them what was going on and they stood in front of us, hiding us from view and assured us that we were safe. We didn’t see him (or the other guy with the baseball cap) after that but it spooked us to the point where we couldn’t even enjoy our day out anymore so we went home.
This same mall is known to be unsafe and honestly, this whole city is rampant with human trafficking so even though it could have been just paranoia, we anticipated the worst. Interestingly enough, this same mall recently posted a policy that visitors under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult after 4pm on Friday and Saturdays along with safety guidelines on how to stay safe. So there’s that.
Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Trust your gut. I don’t walk alone without my phone in my hand, and I call someone anytime I’m in a parking lot or gas station. It’s sad but it’s always been hard to ever feel safe when I’m alone.
Edited and posted again to add spaces since it was flagged for wall of text. My bad!

2024.05.16 15:14 osubuckeyes88 Any Ohio SNAP experts here? Elderly parents looking to appeal their new benefit amount.

Thanks to some previous recommendations here, I helped my parents file for an appeal several weeks ago as they never heard back from the caseworker(s) on their renewal. The date is scheduled for next week. The county finally called 2 days ago and their benefits decreased from $403 to $329. While they are very appreciative for any amount that they get, the number doesn't actually make up to their expenses/deductions.
Is property tax from home ownership considered a deduction/expense? The mortgage is paid off. When I enter their monthly property tax on SNAPSCREENER, their benefits go up to $520 but if I leave it out, it's the same amount they are getting now. I'm wondering if the caseworker forgot to include their property tax or if Ohio actually doesn't consider it as an expense since it's not a "rent or mortgage."
edit: Here are their monthly expenses:
Income:
Social Security: $1870 before Medicare deduction
Expenses:
Water Bill: $110/month
Electric: $77/month HEAP Plan
Gas: $77/month HEAP Plan
Mortgage: $0
Property taxes: $600/month
Home Insurance: $95/month
AARP Supplemental Health Insurance: $320/month
Dental Insurance: $60/month

2024.05.16 15:13 DRSuitable Advice Sought Please

Hello, hope someone will be able to help me.
I should preface this by explaining that I'm not hugely computer literate, but recently my friends and I have decided to start recording some video content and hope to edit using Adobe PP.
We bought the recording hardware (camera etc) and have recorded some 4K video. After doing so we've realised none of our personal computers are capable of editing said video, because we don't have anything close to a modern set up.
I came across the Mac Studio as it seems to be able to do what I need. I will be editing 4K videos of up to a few hours long, and would like to add the odd effect here or there/some layers/integrate graphics.
We as a group are 100 percent more on the hobby end of the scale than anything like pro/even competent with editing software.
If I picked up a refurbished M2 Max with 32GB memory and 512GB from Apple in the UK @ £1779 GBP, would this be a good deal/capable equipment for someone like me?
Or would getting a bit more memory (and a new Mac studio as opposed to refurbished) make more sense?
This will be a purchase for my home, and the rest of my family (wife + 2 kids) would use it as a home PC. Would the studio make sense for this too, or should I look elsewhere entirely?
Just to clarify, my friends and I are filming tabletop gaming/boardgame sessions, not onlyfans 👀. I read this before posting and thought it sounded otherwise!
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

2024.05.16 14:51 mattrfs Survivor 46 Episode 12 Contender Rankings

Survivor 46 Episode 12 Contender Rankings
As Q falls at the final hurdle, so do our chances of having a WTF winner. Regardless of what happens, Charlie, Maria and Kenzie all clearly sweep Ben and Liz at final tribal, but which of them has the best shot to win?
Here are my contender rankings heading into the finale ...
Who is the winner of Survivor 46? ...
  1. Kenzie. (-) This episode continued to bolster her social game with yet another lengthy segment where she helps Ben deal with his night terrors. She also finally got her home footage package, with huge focus placed on the fact that she moved her wedding to play the game. The editors also gave her and Liz dual credit for finally getting rid of Q, fulfilling my trophy prophecy from last week, and despite this being a bad thing for Liz, which I'll cover later, for Kenzie it makes perfect sense and completes her narrative since the pre-merge about her battle with Q (initially over Tiffany, and later over the way he was playing the game). I would be perhaps the most shocked ever about a loss if Kenzie were to lose, the amount of care put into her edit is insane, and you can see the legwork they put into her story since the first episode. Mermaid Dragon, 'She'll be in the final three' (Jess), and 'she'll slide through to the end' (Q during Hide and Seek) being just three of many many examples of foreshadowing in this season.
Who is not winning? ...
  • Charlie. (-) This episode continued to show the strong social and strategic game Charlie is playing. I'm torn whether he will lose to Kenzie Aubry-style or whether he will lose fire-making, but I'm sure he's not winning now. I think he may lose fire making because they reused a shot of him being zoomed in on past the fire in the Previously On segment this week, and because of how adamant Maria was that 'Charlie will win if he gets to the end'. I also think the edit is telling us that Charlie is playing the best strategic game, especially in the last two episodes, and I don't think they would hype him up so much if Kenzie were to beat him on social game alone. They've also given no real reason as to why the game he is playing would fall flat in front of a jury, other than the perception that he has just been Maria's number 2 which he can easily end with his proven articulate speaking. He was undermined a few times this episode, his confessionals about him not thinking Maria would ever take a shot at him being shown in sequence with Maria's 'Charlie has to go' confessionals being the main example, and he also got a shorter letters from home segment than Kenzie and Liz.
  • Maria. (+2) Maria moves up two spots this week due to the set up of the endgame meaning logically Liz and Ben cannot win. A really strong episode for her all around, and I really think she has played one of the best games of the New Era. But her plan fell through, and now she is guaranteed 5th place.
  • Liz. (-1) Not only can she not win logically, but her whole narrative in the edit has been that despite being ready to burst with emotions, she has had to keep her cool and go with her head over her heart, taking part in huge blindsides and putting her strategic foot forward. This episode she was positioned to do it again, blindsiding Charlie and saving Q once more, but instead she went along with Charlie's plan, finally taking out Q. In her confessional she even states her reasoning for doing so as wanting to finally get rid of him as she dislikes him as a person, thus ending her own narrative winning condition and her chance at an additional million dollars.
  • Ben. (-1) The editors never really bothered to give Ben a story. All his content has told us is that he's a nice human being and he's not really playing the game, and 75% of that content has been used to prop up Charlie and Kenzie rather than being about himself. The least likely to win by far.
If I had to guess the finale boot order - 5th: Maria, 4th: Charlie, 3rd: Ben, 3rd (also zero votes): Liz, 1st: Kenzie.

2024.05.16 14:50 Manquetu What should I do ?

I am supposed to graduate in 2 days. I have one last project to submit by tomorrow at 2pm and I have no idea how to do it. I also don’t really have time anymore to do it because of current circumstances. In 3 hours I have to go to my sister’s wedding. I am also in the wedding so won’t be arriving home until around midnight.
For the project I have to use a-frame/glitch (yes you probably don’t know what it is because I’m in the program and don’t even know what it is) and code an adjustment as a solution I made with a current VR existing application, take 5 testing videos of participants using my program, and then do a case study of what I did. Unfortunately, chatgpt isn’t too familiar with it so it’s no help.
This project started out as a group project and in the past couple of weeks switched over to an individual project. My partner and I were pretty lost and had no idea how to implement the solution. I’ve also emailed the professor 6 times for help and he hasn’t responded.
Yesterday, I was supposed to meet up with my partner so we can figure it out together. She came 2 hours later than she said she would and I ended up not getting much time to go over it with her because I had a final for another class. When my class was over, I went upstairs to the room she was working in and long story short, a PhD international student ended up doing the entire assignment for her so by the time my class was over she was pretty much done. I walked over to them with my laptop and before I can even say a word she completely flipped out on me and said “I’m sorry but I’ve been working on this for hours and you weren’t here so I’m not sharing my code with you” To be fair, I can admit that she carried me through 95% of this semester and did all of our work for us. However, I find it weird that she would decide to be petty when we are literally graduating this weekend and have taken 7-8 other classes together and never had a problem. Literally her copying her code and sending it to me which would literally take 3 seconds of her time is literally the difference between me getting an A and me potentially failing the class. I’m just so overwhelmed and honestly don’t know what to do at this point. Am I wrong for thinking this way? I really don’t know what to do at this point and I’m stressed out and it really seems like nobody can help me. Professors not responding and classmates unwilling to help because they are trying to finish their own stuff
EDIT: This is the 7th or 8th class I’ve taken with this girl and in previous semesters, I’ve had other group projects with her and have been the one carrying her.
EDIT2: For those of you telling me that I should be working on this right now instead of posting on Reddit, you need to keep in mind that I NEED THE CODE. I can’t do one thing without the other 1.) Need the Code to have a scene for testing 2.) Need a functional scene to record the videos 3.) Need all of this done to do the case study
EDIT3: for those of you saying I should ask for an extension, I can’t ask for an extension. Grades are due tomorrow and commencement is this Sunday.

2024.05.16 14:41 Arbrand The Trickster's Veil

As far back as I can remember, I had always been passionate about the great outdoors. My love for the wilderness began when I joined the scouts, exploring the diverse landscapes of Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. I was never a huge fan of the dry, barren landscapes, but camping provided a much-needed escape from the monotony of Orange County suburbia.
The first time I visited the Pacific Northwest, I was enchanted. The scenery was breathtaking—majestic mountains, lush fields, and meandering rivers. It was clear that anyone who praised the desert's beauty had never laid eyes on the Cascades. Seeing grass and wildflowers growing without irrigation was practically a revelation.
When I was old enough, I moved to Washington state, immersing myself in nature every weekend. My adventures took me hiking through dense forests, camping by serene lakes, and occasionally taking mushrooms under peaceful waterfalls.
I joined several online forums dedicated to outdoor enthusiasts. One community that particularly fascinated me was the Northwest Tomb Raiders. This group of history buffs and thrill-seekers was dedicated to uncovering artifacts, whether Native American relics or treasures hidden in modern ruins. Many members were collectors, fencing their finds to museums and archaeologists, which made it a rather profitable side gig, should you be lucky enough.
In the fall of 2009, an intriguing post appeared on the forum. A user named Lokk claimed to have discovered a cache of artifacts with Scandinavian origins. He couldn't carry everything back due to the treacherous terrain and his age, so he shared the coordinates, hoping someone else could retrieve the items. I scrolled down to see a few posts of people planning to loot it in the Spring, when the paths have reopened. One user, Patagooner, planned on going as early as possible.
Excited by the prospect, I gathered my two friends, Carl and Noah, for the expedition. They weren't as enthusiastic about camping as I was, but after I told them how much a single arrowhead goes for on the black market, they were on board. It was the start of winter now, which had its advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, the rangers would have a harder time spotting us. On the downside, the harsh conditions posed a serious challenge for two inexperienced hikers.
I must’ve blown about four grand at REI on gear for them, justifying it with the knowledge of how much more I would make with two extra packs. That is of course assuming there really were as many artifacts as Lokk had said, and Patagooner hadn’t beaten me there.
The journey began like any other. We met in the pre-dawn darkness and went over our supplies, ensuring we had everything we needed. By mid-morning, we were on our way, my pickup truck winding up the mountain paths. The roads of Olympic National Park were the epitome of the raw, untamed beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
They snake through ancient forests, where towering Douglas firs and Western hemlocks create a verdant canopy overhead. Mist clings to the trees, giving the landscape an ethereal quality. Occasionally, the forest would open up to reveal breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks and deep, shadowy valleys.
As we climbed higher, the landscape grew increasingly desolate. The dense forest thinned out, replaced by rugged terrain and jagged rock formations. The air grew colder, and the first flurries of snow began to fall, dusting the ground in a thin, white layer. The road became narrower and more treacherous, winding precariously along the edge of steep cliffs.
Finally, a road closure blockade signaled the end of our journey in the truck. We unloaded three dirt bikes—one mine, two rentals—and continued up the trail. The bikes roared to life, carrying us several more miles into the wilderness. The trail twisted and turned, cutting through dense underbrush and over fallen logs. The snow began to fall more heavily, blanketing the forest floor and muffling the sound of our engines. The world around us grew quieter, more isolated.
Eventually, the snow became too deep to traverse by bike. We dismounted and prepared to continue on foot. The silence of the forest was profound, broken only by the occasional rustle of branches in the wind. I checked my modern GPS, its screen displaying the coordinates and a relief map of our destination.
The cold air bit into our cheeks as we trudged through the snow-laden forest. The silence was almost oppressive, broken only by the crunch of our footsteps and the occasional call of distant wildlife. The GPS indicated we were close to our destination, but the dense underbrush and uneven terrain made progress slow.
Suddenly, Carl's excited whisper cut through the stillness. "Hey, look at that!"
He pointed to a small, furry creature ambling through the trees. It took a moment to realize what it was—a bear cub, innocently exploring its surroundings.
My heart sank. "Carl, get back," I hissed, my voice low but urgent. "Where there's a cub, there's a..."
Before I could finish, a massive shape exploded from the trees. The mother bear, easily three times the size of the cub, charged at Carl with a ferocity. She was a blur of dark fur and powerful muscles, her roar echoing through the forest.
"Run!" I yelled, but it was too late. The bear was upon Carl, swiping at him with her massive paws. He screamed as he fell to the ground, the bear towering over him. Desperation and adrenaline surged through me. I grabbed the nearest heavy branch and swung it at the bear, hoping to distract her.
Noah joined in, shouting and waving his arms. We had to be careful; one wrong move and she would turn on us. The bear snarled, turning her attention away from Carl for just a moment. It was enough for him to scramble backwards, clutching his bleeding arm.
"We have to get him out of here," I shouted to Noah, who nodded, fear etched on his face. The bear, still enraged, seemed torn between attacking us and protecting her cub.
Using the brief respite, we hauled Carl to his feet. His face was white, and he was clearly in shock. Blood soaked his sleeve, dripping onto the snow. "There's a ranger station about two miles from here," I said, my voice shaking. "We need to get him there. Now."
We half-carried, half-dragged Carl through the forest, every shadow and sound heightening our paranoia.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the small, wooden structure of the ranger station came into view. We had been avoiding the rangers to keep our expedition secret, but now it was our only hope.
Pounding on the door, I prayed for a quick response. The door creaked open, and a weathered face appeared. "What happened?" the ranger demanded, taking in the sight of Carl's bloodied form.
"Bear attack," I gasped. "We need help."
The ranger's expression shifted from suspicion to urgency. "Get him inside. We've got a first aid kit and a radio."
As we eased Carl onto a makeshift bed, the ranger inspected his wounds. "You're lucky," he said after a moment. "The cuts are deep, but they missed any major arteries. He'll need stitches, but we can handle that here. No need for an airlift."
The ranger's face darkened as he turned to me. "What the hell are you boys doing out here?”
I hesitated, "We... we were just exploring."
The ranger's eyes narrowed, his anger palpable. "Exploring? In a restricted area? In the middle of winter? Are you out of your minds?"
He worked quickly and efficiently, cleaning and stitching Carl's wounds. Carl winced but stayed silent, his eyes closed in pain.
"Do you have any idea how dangerous it is out here?" the ranger continued, his voice rising. "The storm, the wildlife... This area is off-limits for a reason! You should have known better." he said, pushing a finger into my chest.
"We'll stay here for the night," he continued, "The storm's getting worse, and it's too dangerous to move him now. We'll reassess in the morning. And count yourself lucky I don't arrest your asses."
Night fell quickly, the storm outside growing more ferocious with each passing minute. The howling wind battered the small ranger station, and the walls creaked under the pressure. We huddled in the main room, the tension thick in the air.
The ranger looked at us sternly. "I need to check the perimeter and make sure everything is secure. There are things out there you don’t want to encounter, especially in this storm."
"Things? What do you mean?" Noah asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The ranger's expression hardened. "Just stay put. No matter what you see or hear, do not leave this cabin. Understood?"
We nodded, the seriousness in his tone leaving no room for argument. "We'll stay put," I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt.
The ranger grabbed his coat and shotgun. "I'll be back in an hour. Do not leave this cabin." With that, he opened the door and stepped into the raging storm, disappearing into the darkness.
As soon as the door closed, I turned to Noah. "We need to go. Now."
Noah's eyes widened. "Are you crazy? He said to stay put."
"If we wait until morning, we'll be escorted out of here and lose our chance. This might be our only opportunity to find those artifacts."
Noah hesitated with uncertainty "But... what about Carl?"
"He'll be fine here. The ranger can take care of him. We have to do this now."
Reluctantly, Noah nodded. "Alright. Let's take what we can and go."
We quickly looted extra gear from the cabin. I checked the GPS one last time before we slipped out into the storm, the cold wind battering us.
The snow fell heavily, obscuring our vision as we slogged through the forest. The ranger was nowhere in sight as we made our way towards the our destination, each step filled with trepidatious excitement.
The storm began to die down as we approached the coordinates. We stepped into a clearing where the undisturbed snow lay like a pristine white blanket. In the center stood an ancient, weathered stone altar, encircled by intricate wooden carvings, delicate metalwork, and beautifully crafted statues. The sight was breathtaking, a treasure trove, a veritable museum of paganism.
Noah and I exchanged glances, our eyes wide with amazement. "Do you see this?" I whispered, barely able to contain my excitement.
"We're going to be rich," Noah replied, his voice trembling with awe. "These must be worth a fortune!"
We approached cautiously, as if the vision before us might disappear. The craftsmanship was stunning. I reached out to touch a carved wooden idol, marveling at the detail. "This is incredible," I said, my voice barely audible.
We began to load our packs with as many artifacts as we could carry, each one more exquisite than the last. It was beyond our wildest dreams. We were so engrossed in our task that we didn't notice the small figure watching us from the ridge.
It wasn't until I turned to leave that I saw her. A young girl, maybe eight years old, stood there, her blue eyes wide with curiosity. She was dressed in simple, rustic clothing, her blonde straight hair blowing gently in the wind. For a moment, we just stared at each other.
"Noah," I whispered urgently, nudging him. "Look."
He turned, his eyes following my gaze. "What the...?" he muttered, his voice trailing off.
The girl took a tentative step forward, her eyes fixed on the items in our hands. There was no fear in her gaze, only a quiet intensity that made my skin crawl.
"Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
She tilted her head slightly. "My name is Sigyn."
"What are you doing out here, Sigyn?" Noah asked, his voice shaky.
"I live here,"
"You live here?" I echoed, incredulous. "Is there anyone else around?"
"Yes," she whispered.
"Where?" Noah demanded, looking around nervously.
"Everywhere," she said with a giggle.
The way she said it, so matter-of-factly, bothered me deeply. Noah and I exchanged a look, both of us trying to figure out what to do next.
"We can't take her back to the ranger," Noah started, "We'll lose everything."
I nodded, my mind racing. "Sigyn," I said slowly, "we need to know who else is here. Can you help us?"
She looked at me with her piercing blue eyes, then said, "I'm sorry."
"For what?" Noah asked.
"For what's going to happen to you," she replied, her voice tinged with sadness.
"You need to tell us what's going on," Noah said, grabbing her arm roughly. "Why are you out here alone?"
She looked up at him, unperturbed. "I am not alone," she said softly.
Before we could press her further, a loud, guttural mooing sound echoed through the clearing. We turned towards the direction the girl had come from, and there, emerging from the shadows, was the silhouette of an elk. As it approached, my stomach dropped. Its body was a grotesque amalgamation of life and decay. Its skull was fully exposed, the eye sockets dark and empty. Large patches of its ribs were visible, the flesh around them rotted away.
The elk's movements were slow and deliberate, its head swaying as if in a trance. It walked directly towards us, its hollow eyes fixed on Sigyn. The closer it got, the more the stench of death filled the air—a nauseating mix of decay and earth. I fought the urge to retch.
Sigyn stood up, her expression calm. The monster sniffed her gently, its nostrils flaring. Without a word, she climbed onto its back, mounting it like a horse. It was a surreal and horrifying scene ripped straight from a nightmare.
As she settled onto the elk, she looked back at us, "A thief in the night shall reap what he sows," she said, her voice carrying an otherworldly echo. "Beware the price of stolen dreams."
With that, the beast turned and began to walk away, Sigyn riding it into the shadows of the forest. We stood there, frozen in place. The realization that we were in far over our heads began to sink in. This started to feel like a trap.
We need to get out of here," My voice trembling. "Now."
We turned to leave, our packs heavy with the pilfered goods. But as we took our first steps, the forest around us seemed to come alive. Shadows moved among the trees, and whispers floated on the wind. I quickened my pace, glancing nervously over my shoulder.
"Did you hear that?" Noah asked sharply,
"Just keep moving," I commanded.
A figure emerged from the shadows, blocking our path. It was a man, tall and gaunt, his eyes burning with an intense light. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked, his voice cold and menacing.
"We're leaving," I stammered. "We didn't mean any harm."
The man smirked, and with a swift motion, he raised his hand. More figures appeared, closing in on us from all sides. We were surrounded.
"Run!" I shouted, shoving Noah forward.
We sprinted through the forest, branches whipping at our faces and legs. The figures pursued us, their footsteps silent and relentless.
Noah stumbled and fell, his pack spilling open. Statues scattered across the ground, glinting in the moonlight. "Help!" he cried, scrambling to gather the items.
"Leave them!" I shouted, pulling him to his feet. "We have to keep moving!"
But it was too late, their hands seizing us. I struggled, kicking and thrashing, but their grips were too strong. They forced us to the ground, binding our hands with rough, coarse ropes.
"Please," I begged, "Don't hurt us."
The man who had first appeared stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "A thief in the night," he mocked.
They dragged us through the forest, the trees closing in around us like a cage. We were at their mercy.
In the distance, I could see the elk standing at the edge of the clearing, Sigyn still astride its back. Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of pity. But then they turned away, disappearing into the shadows once more.
We were dragged into the heart of the forest, our struggles futile against the unyielding grip of our captors. As we broke through the treeline, a massive bonfire came into view, its flames licking the night sky. Shadows danced around the clearing, cast by the flickering light. A woman stood at the forefront, her presence commanding.
Her eyes were milk white, devoid of pupils, and her long, flowing white hair cascaded down her back. She was completely naked, her skin pale and marked with intricate symbols. Atop her head, she wore an elk skull, its antlers extending like eerie, skeletal fingers. She beat a drum emblazoned with more of the same cryptic symbols, each thud resonating deep within my chest.
Around the fire, about two dozen people stood, all drinking from crude, horned cups. Their faces were solemn, eyes fixed on the woman as she led them in a haunting chant. The atmosphere was thick with a mix of reverence and intoxication.
We were forced to our knees before the woman, who paused her drumming to look down at us. Her gaze was haunting, as if she could see into the very depths of our souls.
"Who are you?" Noah demanded, his voice trembling.
The woman ignored him, raising her arms to the sky. The chanting grew louder, the rhythm of the drum faster and more frenzied. The air around us seemed to vibrate with energy, the flames of the bonfire growing higher and more intense.
I glanced at Noah, fear mirrored in his eyes. The woman began to speak, her voice low and melodic, but filled with power, in a language I couldn't understand. Suddenly, she stopped, lowering her arms. The chanting ceased, and an silence fell over the clearing. She looked directly at me, her white eyes unblinking.
I was terrified and confused. She started again, softer, in a way I could understand.
A thief in the night shall reap what he sows, beware the price of stolen dreams.
His laughter guards our hidden groves, where shadows cloak the forest's seams.
For every stolen breath and lie, a thief must meet his painful end.
The tricksters will, our spirits tie, so in his grace, our lives suspend.
The crowd surged forward, grabbing Noah first. He screamed, his terror echoing through the trees as they pulled him towards a makeshift altar beside the bonfire. The woman chanted louder, her voice rising in a hypnotic rhythm as they began their gruesome work.
They stripped him of his shirt and bound his arms to a wooden frame. I tried to move, to help him, but the grip on my shoulders tightened, pinning me to the ground.
The woman approached Noah, holding a knife with a blade that gleamed in the firelight. She started to slice into his back, her movements deliberate and unhurried. Noah's screams pierced the night as she methodically carved the shape of wings into his flesh.
Blood poured from the wounds, soaking the ground beneath him. The crowd's chant grew louder, almost drowning out his cries. I watched in horror as the woman reached into the incisions, breaking the ribs and pulling them outward, creating a parody of wings.
Noah's agony was unbearable to witness. His screams turned to whimpers, his body convulsing in pain. The woman didn't stop until the work was complete, his lungs exposed and hanging grotesquely from his back.
They lifted Noah's broken body and placed him over the fire. The smell of burning flesh filled the air, making me gag. His life ebbed away as the flames consumed him, the once vibrant light in his eyes fading to nothing.
The woman turned to me, her expression devoid of mercy. "You will meet the same fate," she said, "He demands it."
The smell of burning flesh and the sight of his broken body over the fire was seared into my mind. Despair settled over me as I closed my eyes.
A deafening blast shattered the night. My eyes flew open to see the shaman stumbling backward, a gaping wound in her chest. She collapsed to the ground, her white eyes staring lifelessly into the void.
The villagers turned in shock as another shot rang out, this time hitting one of the men holding me. I twisted free from their grasp and saw the park ranger standing at the edge of the clearing, a pump-action shotgun in his hands. He fired again, the sound echoing through the forest, before one of them tackled him to the ground.
"Run!" he shouted, his voice raw and desperate. "Get the hell out of here!"
I didn't need to be told twice. I sprinted into the darkness, the chaos of the clearing fading behind me. Branches whipped at my face, and the snow underfoot made every step a struggle. I could hear the sounds of fighting and gunshots, but I forced myself to keep moving.
The cold air burned in my lungs, but adrenaline pushed me forward. I didn't stop until I reached the station, my legs threatening to give out from under me. I burst through the door and slammed it behind me.
Inside, Carl lay where we had left him, his face pale and twisted in pain. I stumbled to the radio, my hands trembling as I fumbled with the controls.
"Mayday, mayday!" I yelled into the microphone. "This is an emergency! We need help! Please, someone, come quickly!"
Static filled the room, punctuated by my ragged breaths. I repeated the call, my voice growing more frantic with each passing second. Finally, a voice crackled through the speaker. "This is Ranger Station Bravo. What's your location? Over."
I could barely form the words. "Olympic National Park! The ranger station near mount Christie! We're under attack! Please, send help!"
"Copy that. Help is on the way. Stay put and stay safe. Over."
I collapsed to the floor, my body trembling with exhaustion and fear. Carl moaned softly, his eyes fluttering open. "What… What happened? Where's Noah?”
Tears streamed down my face and I found myself choked up. “He’s gone, man. Help is coming.”
The minutes stretched into an eternity as we waited. The wind howled around the station, and every creak and groan of the structure set my nerves on edge. I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, that the forest itself was closing in on us.
The radio crackled again, this time with a different voice. "Helicopter en route, ETA fifteen minutes. Prepare for extraction."
I glanced at Carl, his eyes filled with confusion. "Hang on. We're getting out of here."
As the minutes ticked by, I couldn't help but think about the ranger. He had saved my life, but he hadn't made it back. My mind conjured up images of what might have happened to him, the cultists overwhelming him in the darkness. A sense of guilt gnawed at me, knowing he had sacrificed himself for us.
The sound of rotors cut through the night, growing louder as the helicopter approached. I ran to the window and saw its searchlight piercing the treetops, scanning for the station.
I helped Carl to his feet, supporting his weight as we made our way to the hatch. The helicopter hovered above, lowering a rescue basket. The wind from the rotors whipped the snow into a frenzy, but I didn't care. Salvation was finally here.
We secured Carl in the basket first, and I watched as he was hoisted up, disappearing into the safety of the helicopter. My turn was next. I realized that I was now alone and exposed. Fear coursing through me as I scanned around the edge of the forest, expecting to be grabbed and taken seconds before my rescue. But the moment never came. As I gripped the rope, I took one last look at the forest below. The flames of the bonfire still flickered in the distance.
I was lifted into the air, the ground falling away beneath me. The helicopter's crew pulled me inside, and I collapsed onto the floor still holding onto my pack, my body finally giving in to exhaustion. The doors closed, and the helicopter banked away, leaving the horrors of the park behind.
Weeks had passed since the harrowing events, but the memories clung to me like the bitter cold. I had returned to civilization, seeking solace in the familiar chaos of the city. I found a wealthy collector through a network of contacts. The artifacts fetched a price tenfold the cost of gear. The money was substantial, but as I held the cash, it felt like a hollow victory.
Noah's absence weighed heavily on me. His disappearance was chalked up as a missing persons case, and despite my best efforts to explain what had happened, no one believed me. The authorities conducted a search of the area, but they found no trace of the cult, the artifacts, or the clearing. It was as if the forest had swallowed up all the evidence.
I returned to the site where we had parked the truck. The dirt bikes were gone, stolen by opportunistic thieves, but the truck remained. I drove back in silence, the road winding through the dense forest. For a moment, I thought I saw the girl watching me from atop a ridge until I realized it was just paranoia. I stepped on the gas a little harder.
Back home, I checked the Tomb Raiders forum again. The post that had led us into the forest was gone, deleted without a trace. I messaged the mods, but apparently, they don’t keep records to maintain confidentiality. I wrote about our experience, detailing every terrifying moment, but the responses were skeptical at best. Most dismissed it as a work of fiction or a desperate cry for attention.
Time passed, and I tried to return to a semblance of normalcy. Yet, the wilderness called to me stronger than ever. It was my sanctuary, the only place where I could find peace amidst the turmoil. I spent more and more time outdoors than ever before, but now it always felt like I was just running from something.
Determined to prove what had happened, I returned to the forest with a camera and recording equipment. This time, I documented every step, capturing footage of the trees, the snow, and the eerie silence that hung in the air. I retraced our path, hoping to find the clearing again. But each night, as I reviewed the footage, something strange would happen. The files would be corrupted or entire segments missing.
I pressed on. I found the site where Noah had fallen, the ground still bearing faint traces of what had happened. I set up the camera and began to speak, recounting the events in detail. As I spoke, a cold wind swept through the clearing, and the camera's screen flickered. I finished my account and turned to check the recording, only to find the file corrupted once again, the footage replaced by static and a faint, mocking laughter.
I returned home, defeated and exhausted. My attempts to share what I had experienced were met with disbelief and ridicule. The files I managed to save were corrupted beyond recognition. It was as if the forest itself was conspiring against me.
Almost exactly one year later, as I browsed the forums, a new post caught my eye. It was cryptic, eerily similar to the one that had led us into the nightmare. It spoke of another trove of artifacts, hidden deep within the wilderness, waiting to be claimed.
The post was signed with a new name: Skygge. Different handle, same style. Another trap. They had taken so much from me, left scars that would never heal. I opened my drawer, my fingers brushing over the cold metal of my weapons. This was the moment I had been waiting for. This time, I'll be ready.
The forest’s secrets won't remain hidden forever.

2024.05.16 14:37 GWindborn How many weapons do you carry, and what do you use them for?

I feel like I carry too many guns.. I do it in every Fallout, every gun has a "purpose" so to speak. I'm curious what everyone else is rocking. And yeah, my build is almost certainly sub-optimal, but I'm a ~40 year old dad, I have limited play time, I'm a lvl 250 full health Commando that's an amalgamation of builds I found online and this is how I like doing things. I'm not going to lay out every perk (because I don't know them off the top of my head, but they're all "good" as far as I can tell. If anyone is truly curious I can post when I get home) but here's what I lug around:
My primary is a Quad Handmade that rains death down upon my enemies. The thing is laser accurate, almost zero recoil.
My immediate backup is a 2-shot Fixer. I made it recently, I don't remember the other perks but it's actually really good, but I prefer larger clips than the Fixer allows.
My "boss killer" is a Quad Plasma flamer (non-Enclave, I'm not fancy). The thing holds 390 rounds, its absurd how long I can just stand there and melt things. I could almost make it my primary if the range wasn't so short.
Then I randomly found an Executioner's Explosive Rounds Fixer with 90% less weight and that's my "fun gun".. Since it weighs less than a pound and I'm not really spec'd for explosives, I just keep it in my pack for shits and giggles. It's good for bosses or more tanky enemies too.
Edit: You guys are making me feel so much better about carrying so many weapons LOL

2024.05.16 14:33 Hefty_Frosting9663 Has anyone opted out of being weighed at prenatal appts?

Hi there. I’m 11 weeks today with my first baby. I had a confirmatory ultrasound at 7 weeks (only due to going to a free clinic and being told there’s no baby) but today is my first official prenatal visit/ultrasound. Weight is a very triggering and anxiety inducing topic for me. I don’t really mind if it were just me and the providers but with my husband being there I feel so sick to stomach about him being near. I know he wouldn’t care but this is an issue I’ve been battling for a long time. It’s honestly made my pregnancy experience already so bad because I’m constantly worrying about this appt and him being around when I’m weighed. It’s ridiculous but it’s my reality right now.
Editing to add - I weigh myself frequently at home. It really is just an anxiety of others knowing my weight

2024.05.16 14:28 Ok_Asparagus_1704 How do I (28M) handle my girlfriends (27F) rules and regulations?

I’ve been with my girlfriend for 10 years and lived together for 3, we both WFH together but sometimes travel into the office. She thinks we argue a normal amount, i think we argue too much. All our arguments come from bad communication, nagging and forgetting her rules. I’m trying my best to not cause any arguments by trying to do everything she asks.
My main chore is the kitchen, I cook three separate dinners as she never wants what i’m eating, and i also need to cook for our dog (he can’t eat dog food). I occasionally cook her lunch when she wants something specific and I do all the dishes every time since i’m the one who cooked.
She vacuums and does the laundry, and we tackle the rest of the chores together.
On top of our chores, we have certain rules we must follow - which is fine because it keeps our house tidy and keeps her happy.
Our arguments all stem from the same situation: She’s been busy with work and slacked on chores so i’ve done them all, in the midst of doing all the chores I’ve forgotten a rule - when she comes home she ignores the fact i’ve completed every chore and instantly nags about the one thing I didn’t do.
An example: She was in a rush to go to work and left the house a mess, everything out of place and every room needed cleaning. So i tidied the whole house (cleaning, laundry, vacuum, kitchen, etc) so there would be no chores at all for us to do when she got home, made her favourite dinner and took care of the dog - this took about 2 hours which I juggled between working.
When she got home she didn’t say anything about the chores or that I made her dinner, until she walked into her office and realised i broken a rule.
The dog was sad that day and missing her so I decided to sit with him all day in her office, I’d forgotten that if I have to sit in her office I must sit on the chair on the right, not the one on the left. She noticed this because i didn’t properly tuck the chair perfectly back.
This turned into an argument, because she didn’t address the 99 things I did right, just the 1 thing I did wrong.
This same situation happened last week too, again I had to clean the whole house because she rushed off to work that day, I surprised her with one of her favourite dishes timed perfectly for her getting home which took hours to cook in between the chores and working my job simultaneously.
Again, no thanks or anything when she got home - I think i got a “ooo what have you made?” but shortly after she realised I broke a rule and all hell broke loose.
I had forgotten to dry the sink after washing my hands in the bathroom. I forgot it had to be bone dry at all times.
Queue another argument of why I can’t do anything right and how have i forgotten.
Another example from that week, is that I misunderstood one of the rules and it made her very angry.
I thought the rule was “don’t touch the white towel that hangs up on the radiator in the bathroom” but the rule was actually “don’t touch any white towels in the bathroom”
I had been using the white towel hanging by the sink to dry to sink, she noticed it was folded incorrectly one time and blew up.
I apologised and explained I misunderstood the rule and have been using this towel for the last few weeks to dry the sink.
This made her furious, as she couldn’t understand why I would think it would be okay to use one towel but not the other. Every time i explained she got angrier and wouldn’t let me leave the conversation, my answer of I misunderstood the rule wasn’t good enough and we were stuck in an argument for hours.
This is weekly occurrence, I try my best to be a good partner, cook her romantic meals, wake up early so she can have breakfast in bed, pack surprise picnics etc, to which she is appreciative to in the moment, but if I forget one rule - it irritates her so much that she has to nag me on it and cause an argument to vent and feel better.
Her argument is that all of her rules are common sense and it irritates her that she has to remind me about them.
My argument is that they’re not common sense to me and I sometimes forget them, when I do - please remind me without getting angry or stressed, and if i’ve done 99 other things.. maybe sometimes just hold the nag in and dry the sink yourself that time.
Lastly, I have zero rules for her and never nag or ask her to do anything - if she hasn’t done her chores, then I realise it’s probably because she’s busy or stressed so I pick up the slack.
Can anyone give me advice on how to handle this? The arguments are ruining our relationship, but she can’t seem to see that.
Also a note that this is obviously very one sided and in other aspects of our relationship we’re happy.
EDIT: I feel like i wrote this way more one sided than it is, sometimes i slack too on chores and she picks them up for me, the only difference is i’m appreciative and would never said she did a chore wrong or missed something.
tldr: Gf ignores the fact i’ve done 99 chores that she asked me to do and will point out the 1 I didn’t do, which upsets me - how can i resolve this recurring situation?

2024.05.16 14:26 Just_Click_Em Need advice in resolving an issue (No Personal Info)

I’ve been selling off a large portion of my funko pop collection as I’ve been looking to downsize. One of the funkos I have sold is a Chase edition of a character. I priced it at £35 as that’s what he seemed to be worth. Within two days of me listing it, someone bought it at full price, using inpost locker to home. Not uncommon for my orders.
Now the buyers profile was a little suspicious, 0 stars, no reviews, brand new account. I thought it was a little weird but I sent it anyway. If I had of known, I wouldn’t have fulfilled the order but it’s difficult as I don’t want to break my perfect track record on Vinted for not fulfilling the order and it sucks that I had essentially no control over who buys it. Vinted also doesn’t stop new accounts from buying items over a certain price to prevent scams. The buyer has since bought other items and has a couple 5 star reviews from other sellers. He also never had any items listed at the time of buying my item, but now has quite a few items listed to sell. He also follows another funko pop seller, so maybe he isn’t that suspicious after all?
Well I shipped the item on the 2nd of May. It then says on the inpost tracker that they attempted delivery on 7th and left a card. It then says on the 8th that they will attempt again and it is still marked as ‘out for delivery’. As far as I’m aware, with inpost locker to home, delivery will be attempted twice before returning to the sender. However a second delivery was never attempted, and I don’t know what’s on the card. The tracking hasn’t updated since then. I’m at a loss, I don’t have the money, the whereabouts of the parcel are unknown to me.
I haven’t spoken to the buyer, but he also hasn’t reached out to me asking if I know where his parcel is, which I don’t. I’ve sold over 50 items on vinted, around 75% of them have been sent through inpost and I’ve never had an issue like this before. Ever. Any advice or insight would be appreciated, I’ve tried to contact vinted over it and they’ve said there’s nothing they can do until after June 6th as that’s 25 business days after I sent it. Until then I have to accept that I don’t have the money I guess? I’ve since disabled inpost’s locker to home on my account, so at least any more buyers have to go get it to get their hands on it, and failure to do so results in me getting it back.
I’d just like to know where to go from here. Do I contact inpost and report the parcel as missing? Or do I wait until the end of the delivery window to take further action. Im seriously suspicious of what’s happened and something feels off to me.

2024.05.16 14:23 hunterm21 Complex Troubleshooting: Data Recovery from (US Cellular) Samsung Galaxy Note 10, that restarts after a few seconds

Hi there,
I'm trying to figure out something pretty complex right now: regarding a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 that won't stay turned on long enough to enable USB Debugging. I run my own small business for tech support/repair so I feel like I've been pretty thorough about all the things I've been trying.
At this point I'm pretty certain the storage is so full that it freezes and restarts, because my PC showed the storage "bar" of how much storage it has in File Explorer, and that bar was super full (dont recall what numbers like 256 GB storage is full, etc)
I've been working on this in my spare time for a couple weeks now, here's the bullet points so far:
The reason I'm still even attempting this, is because early on in troubleshooting I was able to successfully mount the Galaxy Note 10's storage and see all the folders within the storage. I went to copy the DCIM folder to my PC, then the phone restarted and has not been able to get back to this scenario since.
In my mind, if any of these things could happen, we could proceed to get the data back:
I posted recently about this in another sub and someone was like, basically googling ideas for me in the comments - I don't need random ideas, I'm looking to find someone/something that has dealt with this before
Edit: I also wanna say that I feel strongly that this is a matter of getting a combination of the proper drivers on my PC for the Galaxy Note 10. I also can use the functional Galaxy Note 10 while plugged into my PC, to replicate the drivers it's using etc. if that helps

2024.05.16 14:22 graymanrainman [Online][EST] [5e][LGBTQ+][18+] Spelljammer: Far Realms Cry

I'm looking for players that love to participate in roleplay. There's a fair amount of action, but I mostly focus all my energy on boss fights. This is NOT a beginner's campaign. This is only because I myself do not have the ability to teach the system since I'm a very free form when it comes to dnd. And I feel teaching someone would take too much of my time already. The only reason why I did 18 plus is I don't want to censor my game for some 16 year old that happens to live in Florida. Or for me to deal with any pedos I happen to accidentally pick up from the application process. We will be using roll20 and Discord to run it. So be prepped for that. And games will be weekly at 2pm EST on Wednesday. With this campaign, expect the setting to be a mix of Treasure Planet, a dash of Star Wars, and Star Trek for flavor. Then finally a hint of Call of Chathulu.
Here's some setting lore:
The year is 835. The war between the Astral Alliance and the Giff Empire had just started settling. And the Intergalactic Tribunal. A sort of United Systems government meant to unify the galaxy. While wars and inner conflicts are starting to mysteriously erupt in the star systems across the Re'alms Galaxy. Most pirates and common men say the tensions between each other are starting to rise once more. From the darkest corner of the universe, Translvata. Where Lupins and Vampire pirates are in constant conflict. To the ever-bright L'ong Nagaa, the birthplace of dragon kind, and for pirating. Xaryxispace, the cradle for the astral elves. Even the ever-untouched system of Exandria is on the very edge of a full-blown war. Doomspace is as doomed as ever... The only clue to some of this archaic chaos lies on Earth. A Planet far beyond the Re'alms Galaxy that seems to be close to being swallowed up by the mysterious darkness beyond known space... Earth. A system that many scholars and scientists theorize as a prophecy. That once earth is swallowed up by an encroaching darkness. It will make its way to our galaxy to destroy it... Will this group of adventurers save the Universe?! Or will it be consumed like all the rest...
And here are some small notes to keep in mind for what happened to our party already. Only so if you're already antsy to join and want to make a character.
Anyway, the sign-up process is the same as usual. Fill out an application with the google forms link below, then I reach out on discord for an interview call to see if you're a good fit for the party. I'm looking for just one person this time around. But if you don't get accepted the first time around, I will add a list of cool folks I'll reach out to first if anyone else drops the group.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wsQ024HPJOuxICH_MJf0LG6IVz2u1WRNWkpYuPChVlQ/edit#response=ACYDBNjcmhPjYrBW-1qbK2RWtU2Lup99jjx581PHvyhKFr3y_4I2IEobnqtoZqfVEigXtb0
And I'll message anyone who applied from Graysondagent#4911 or from graysondagent (I still don't get if I still need to use the numbers or not so bear with me.) So DON'T reach out to me first unless you have applied. I will not awnser your request if you do

2024.05.16 14:09 gracie94312 AIO for going to check on my sister after 5 hours of no communication?

And I’d love everyone’s thoughts. My [30F] sister [30F] (yes we are twins) and I live in a big city in the same neighborhood and have a great relationship. BFFs and the best person I know. Hang out 3-4 times per week. Always talking about how grateful we are for each other blah blah blah.
Yesterday she went out with a friend around 5:30pm. At around 9pm her boyfriend [30M] who she lives with texted me asking if I’d heard from her. He said her drinks probably ran over and NBD but that she told him she would be home by 8pm at the latest because usually they do date night on Wednesdays so they could still do something, so he was just seeing is she was ok. I said no, I haven’t heard from her but yeah, drinks probably ran over.
Fast forward to 11pm and we haven’t heard from her in almost 6 hours, not even a text back to confirm she’d be home later than 8pm. At this point it’s a little strange and out of character for her to not say ANYTHING especially 3 hours after she said she’d be home. I’m still not super worried but her BF and my husband think it’s bizarre enough that I should just Uber to the bar and check on her to make sure.
So I go, and when I get there I see her and she’s totally fine, chatting and having a great time. I sit and chat and meet her friend….. and they are wrapping up so it’s now time to go.
My sister FREAKS OUT. She says it’s a violation of privacy and so embarrassing and can’t believe any of us were worried. Let it be known that I’ve literally never done this in our decades of life — so I was a little surprised by her reaction. In hindsight I’m like damn yes I should have just waited but, it was so out of character for her to be so angry.
Do you think this was an overreaction? I feel kind of ashamed that I got so worried and like I ruined her night but a part of me feels like it’s reasonable.
EDIT: To clarify I checked on her bc I’m wayyy closer to the bar (10 mins vs 40) and that I did attempt to contact her multiple times over the course of 3-4 times after I heard her bf was worried. Also, I was originally invited to these plans at 5:30pm but couldn’t go, and the only reason we were concerned is because she had plans at 8 she never showed up to.
TL;DR I checked on my sister after 5 hours of no communication because her bf was worried when she didn’t come home, and now she’s mad.

2024.05.16 14:07 Witchybinx Any scapegoats of the family here ever had to deal with favouritism and having your family fall out with your partner but take more of a liking to your siblings partner?

So i am in a bít of a pickle here. I’ll try to explain this in the best way possible as I am struggling on how to respond to my narc mother.
I still live at home (student) but my boyfriend who is also a student lives with his mum. We are both at the end of our degrees and plan on going into full time work and all soon so we can get a place together. So atm I just contribute rent to my parents as I am an adult.
Anyway, me and my boyfriend have been together 2 years, but I have noticed that my parents favour my sister (golden child) and her boyfriend. It stands out a mile and my boyfriend has noticed it.
Me and my boyfriend have had arguments as my mum can be controlling and tries to guilt trip a lot. We split up but then got back together a week later and since then the relationship has been great, in fact better than ever. However, when we split up that time he blocked my family members. And hasn’t unblocked them since.
This morning my mum started complaining to me that he still has them blocked and is furious and is playing the victim card. She did nothing but “joke” about how the thought of harming him makes her happy and how she thinks I deserve better. I will admit that I was irresponsible in telling her about me and my boyfriend’s arguments in the past, but since then I’ve not overshared anything and worked on it.
But she keeps asking me why are they still blocked and is making out it’s all his fault and she’s angry. She even said she’s been nothing but kind to him (which she hasn’t) and got funny that I bought his mum a birthday present but now she’s not going to get anything off him, because she’s blocked. She even accused me of picking them over her.
Ngl, ever since he blocked them it’s like our relationship has got better. I have not told my family a lot about our relationship since we got back together and we are both happy. My mum is making out that he is trying to push me away from everyone and isolate me, but in reality it’s because she’s toxic. She also has favoured my sister and made excuses for my sisters boyfriends behaviour towards my boyfriend. He basically made no effort for my boyfriend’s birthday after he made an effort for his. But my mum kept making excuses on why my sister and her boyfriend ignored my boyfriends birthday etc.
I’ve even been out for family breakfasts and my auntie and mum boast about how my cousins cannot wait for my sister and her boyfriend to get married and how well they all get on. It does make me feel singled out but I bite my tongue and realise it’s because I’m the scapegoat of the family and what they say does not define my relationship.
Anyway, so I just want to ask how do I respond to claims about my mum being “innocent” and her blaming my boyfriend for everything? As it’s getting tiring and I just want her to leave my relationship alone, thanks.
Edit: I forgot to add that I drive to see him on the weekends around my work and studying so he doesn’t participate in anything anymore associated with my family. But it is awkward for him to visit mine anyway as there would be nowhere for him to sleep for the night. So it’s easier for me to go to his and his mums house.

2024.05.16 14:05 AndrewZabar All my Home folders appear as broken links on my desktop suddenly

Hey gang,
Using a fresh install of 24.04 LTS on a TPad, everything was fine yesterday. This morning I booted up to see a bunch of broken links named as all the subdirs that ordinarily should be in my Home folder. I found online a post indicating a solution by editing the user_dirs.dir except this did not resolve the problem. It went back to how it was, upon reboot.
Here's a screenshot IMAGE
PS Just occurred to me this could be a result of the gnome extensions app, which I actually toggle off and on the icons on desktop option. Maybe what makes that work under the hood has changed, and so the extensions app messes it up?

2024.05.16 14:01 HangarQueen How I use my Vera home automation to open/close my fence gate for Luba's mowing schedule

In case this is of any use to anyone else, I created a document on the steps that I used so that I can have my home automation system (mine is Vera and Zwave, though it could be something else) schedule the opening and closing of my perimeter fence gate to allow Luba to pass through that channel on its way to mow my front yard.
Ideally, the gate would be directly controlled by Luba's need to pass through the fence gate channel, e.g. by a Luba API that's not yet available. Or perhaps by proximity recognition. Or, or, or... I can think of many ways to accomplish it.
But for now, the simplest and most expedient way for me to accomplish it is to have my home automation system open the gate on the same schedule that Luba is using to mow the front yard, and then close the gate 3 hours later (allowing plenty of time for Luba to do her thing, assuming a full charge to begin with).
Oh, I don't have pets, so leaving the gate open for 3 hours isn't a concern to ME. Of course this approach may not work for your needs.
