2024.05.16 05:18 I_Cant_See3 Haunted Christmas box?
The story begins on December of 2021. Me and my roomate have our Christmas decorations out. Now, one of these decorations is a snowman box that sits on our fireplace. Now this box was not a normal box, I still to this day believe its haunted. My first encounter is when I was watching TV around midnight. I swear to God I heard a voice in that box go "What are you doing". It was in a whisper voice, and my roomate was at his mother's at the time. Now, since I'm stupid, the only logical thing for me to do, is lock myself in my room and call my roomate. I call him, and when he picks up, he just calls me crazy and hung up. I slept with the lights on in my room. It didn't strike me that I should open the hellbox when I heard the voice. I guess I believed a demon would jump out of the box. My second encounter was when me and my roomate were cooking, and our stove kept turning off. Me and my roomate laughed it off, but it started to happen more and more. And ISTG I heard that box go "stop it". My roomate and u are flabbergasted, so we run to open the box, only to find nothing but a screw in the box. And my final encounter was when I had headphones in and was singing "mexicola" by queens of the stone age. I shit you not, but the box literally said the name of the song. It said "mexicola" but slightly louder than it normal does. I call my roomate to see if it's him, only to realize he was sleeping the whole time. I still have the box, so I can show my friends. It's in my attic and hasn't been uses for 3 years. But ever since then, the radio has randomly turned on like, 17 times.

Predictions may tend to change as usual. The 2024 Cannes Film Festival just started, so there may be some alterations during and after if the movies featured in the festival are praised or panned, and whatever wins the top prizes (especially the Palme d'Or) later on this month.

2024.05.15 22:52 LeoVictorCordazzo RANKING AND TIER LIST OF EVERY X SONG EVER PART 16 (X AND SKI COLLABS)
Hey yall, I'm making a tier list with EVERY X song on it, not just released but also obscure leaks and unreleased. I'm taking it step by step slowly covering all of his songs into the massive tier list with the 16th ranking being X and ski songs!. if I miss something or u disagree with a ranking lmk and I might change the position next post.
Iâm pretty sure these are all of the X and Ski collabs I havenât ranked yet, if I missed one pleasssssse tell me lol (Iâm not counting selfish with ski since itâs obviously not completed with his verse, Iâm gonna be ranking another version of that song later)
IWATCHEDHIMDROWN - S tier. Hard asf, ski starts the song off smooth asf and X just elevates it to perfection
ILOVEITWHENTHEYRUN - S tier. ANOTHER hard asf track, hook is excellent, everyone does great even yung bans, X screaming makes it S tier tho.
SPACEGHOSTPUSSY - A+ tier. Amazing diss track, Denzel to X transition was godly. Low key ski brings the energy down, but itâs still amazing.
Save yourself! - A tier. Great track, could use a lil more energy but still fire.
GnarlyGuyAnthem (Hell Version) - S tier. I love Xâs high pitched voice, ski is also fire as fuck, hard as fuckkkk
GnarlyGuyAnthem (og) - S tier. the normal-pitched version of the song, fire as fuck I wish X used this flow more often, itâs one of my fav songs by them, tied with the hell version but probably a bit better.
Netflix and Chill - S tier. Iâm ranking the high quality version with hotboycaleb, itâs fire as fuck the beat is hard too, X and ski do fucking amazing as always and the hook is pretty good too.
GANG CYPHER FREESTYLE - B+ tier. An older song, CARRIED BY X, ski does good too but the others kinda bring it down so I canât rank it higher :(
take a step back - S tier. Classic X and ski rave song, gets me lit every time listening to it fr
Ghost busters - A+ tier. Infinitely times better than the version on trippies album lol, quavo is hard, ski has one of his hardest verses, and X just goes nuts as always.
Tier list (song to the left of list = better song) S tier = perfect songs A - A+ tier = amazing songs B - B+ tier = good songs C tier = mid D tier = bad

2024.05.15 20:41 Ok_Situation7527 Episodes (as far as I know) that werenât well liked that I will defend In short or long detail.
| - The Christmas episode. Yeah I know the songs are hit or miss and ladybug jumped the shark a bit towards Santa was a little rough but I do genuinely believe itâs a nice story with Adrien coping his first Christmas without his mother. We see the few times Gabriel cares for him, the Santa Claws gimmick is cool and has a wholesome ending.
- Christmaster. Gee another Christmas episode not well received (again as far as I know) yeah you can say that Chris is annoying but come on heâs less than 7 Iâd be surprised if he wasnât an annoying, rambunctious child. Yes itâs very silly but thatâs what makes this episode fun, as well as creative with a sweet yet funny resolution.
- Season 3 finale (mainly miracle queen) Now you might be thinking, âwhy is this on the list?â Well due to two reasons: firstly I know this was the point of the show where most people dropped out and yes Iâm sure the 3 year hiatus between 3 and 4 (not including the New York special the only new content we had at the time) didnât do any favors or they fell off afterwards I get it it happens. But that leaves me with the second reason and that being people latching onto the whole âredemption arc â for Chloe the show was âclearly â setting up. Iâve already said my piece about Chloe in a past post so Iâll try to keep it brief.
To say sheâs the most divisive character in the fandom is an understatement. I can excuse the newer fans who are recently getting in the show to believe this but the fact that weâve been with this show for years and people are still crying over something that honestly wasnât gonna follow through because: 1. She still did bad things within the âredemption arc â 2. It doesnât matter if ladybug waited to tell her or not, even after she did tell her she couldnât have the miraculous Chloe still persisted. 3. The only reason she decided to become a tolerable person is because Adrien was putting their friendship on the line not because she genuinely believed itâs the right thing to do. Wait I was defending this episode. Sorry for the side track but this main factor for why the episode is disliked is baffling especially the good things that come with it. Like, Dragonbug, Snakenoir, the battle itself, master fu making his final stand before lending his role to Marinette, the ending, etc. I think it was an amazing finale but come on guys weâre entering a new era of the series please get over it especially if itâs been years already. And donât keep harassing people who worked on the show just because you didnât get what you wanted, even if theyâre not perfect human beings Iâm not gonna feel sympathy for someone who gets blocked or bit back because multiple people want to pull an angry mob online. Gee and to think what started that small tangent was Chloe and sheâs not even my least favorite character. Anyway letâs get back to the list. - Simpleman. Guys stop complaining about kid characters when theyâre just being kids already itâs starting to get old. You know what else is getting old? Misusing the term filler. I think you guys are allergic to fun nowadays because of being spoiled with lore and story driven content, nothing wrong with that like what you like but youâre taking that out on a show that you want it to be more than what it is and thatâs not fair. We gotten a lot of crazy episodes within the season alone because apparently âthe show is too repetitive, it doesnât progress the story much, too much filler â and yet when the show does give it to you I barely see anyone talking about half of it.
Anyway, I believe that this was a fun and hilarious episode with a good message. Even Simpleman arguably has the most dangerous power despite being so simple and almost won. What more can I say other than itâs a fun episode with a ton of laughs and some good heart. - Qilin. This episode mostly gets flack for its animation quality compared with other episodes which is fair but I donât believe it takes away what the episode was trying to convey even in a subtle way (hey that rhymed) it was heartbreaking to see Marinetteâs kind mother get akumatized due to a prejudice Ticketmaster. It was a nice episode focusing on her and I love her relationship with her daughter. Did I say before that I love her parents. Happy late Motherâs Day.
- Kuro Neko. So someone already made an entire post dedicated to defending this episode better than I could so if she sees this Iâll ask if she can link it to her post since she summed up my thoughts perfectly. But to keep it brief I wanna make it clear that neither party is in the right or wrong. Yes ladybug should trust cat noir more but some people including cat noir has to realize that the role sheâs been put in hasnât been the easiest especially when sheâs still young, juggling her normal life while figuring herself (her being ladybug alone is a big enough responsibility). I agree that she should include cat noir more as well but two things people seem to forget.
- She still has a bit of trauma left from the cat blanc fiasco so sheâs going to be a bit closed off
- Sheâs made it clear many times in the show, even when sheâs annoyed with him sometimes, thereâs multiple instances where sheâs shown how much she values him as well as how theyâre unstoppable and heâs irreplaceable. She does care about him even if she doesnât always show it I just wish people recognized that more.
- Derision. Okay time for the most divisive episode this season outside of the finale. Iâm just gonna say this. Yes the whole Kim thing was dumb fine but donât go out of way and say â meh meh meh theyâre just excusing her behavior, thanks for making an episode thatâs only there to excuse her stalker behavior but it wonât work on me.â When I know for a fact that many of you wouldnât have kept that same energy if Chloe had a flashback sequence and then youâre like âaww poor baby letâs give her a chance, yeah she did some bad things but letâs not hold that against herâ oh no no no, keep that same energy. If you say it for one you gotta say it for all. You blame the writers and creators for Chloe relapsing into bad habits but donât do the same whenever Marinette does some things wrong?
While Iâm on the topic, I swear people need to make up their minds about what they want out of Marinette because this is one of the few examples of people not being satisfied no matter what you do. People rag on even after she stopped this behavior seasons ago about her âstalking behavior â when letâs not act like you didnât know anyone or were that person yourself at one point, also donât care if itâs a different demographic or not but Iâve seen way worse in other media so letâs not act like Marinetteâs the worst example of this. Then there are people who say sheâs a Mary sue. Like what do you want from her? Because it feels like if you give her flaws people are gonna be mad but if you give her no flaws people are gonna be mad. Itâd be one thing if she never grew from some of her flaws but she does. Iâm not saying I excuse the behavior but thereâs a lack of understanding why she did it. Still a good episode I just wanted to throw my two cents out there. - Season 5 finale. Wow if I had a nickel for every time the audience is mixed on a miraculous season finale, Iâd have 2 nickels which isnât a lot but itâs weird that it happened twice right? But yeah we have mixed reception and I have some thoughts. But let me get the good stuff out of the way first.
- Animation, awesome đ€© this is an event I expected them to blast off their budget as well as the last couple of episodes.
- Bugnoir
- The action and the worldwide stakes
- Natalie even in her final hours is still MVP
- Marinette/Emilie getting through to Gabriel just enough
- The ending with Adrien and Marinette together
- Luka and Alix coming back
- Luka reunion with Juleka
- Luka and the fam guardian training Thereâs more I can list but weâll be here all day but let me discuss the two biggest issues people had with the finale.
- Gabriel being redeemed and is seen as a hero.
Great itâs Steven universe all over again đ(If you know, you know). Okay yeah he definitely doesnât earn that title but letâs remind ourselves a few things: Firstly yeah I know he was mostly a monster especially towards Adrien, I donât doubt that he doesnât care about him itâs just his obsession getting the miraculous plus being power hungry plus being on a timer before he reaches his end got him in a deep rabbit hole. Secondly, remember people only see him as a hero because whatever the wish was it altered the reality so itâs only the effects of the wish that made him look like a hero. Thirdly just because he pulled a last minute change of heart decision doesnât make him redeemed. For those who havenât seen She-ra and the princesses of power there is a minor spoiler for the finale so if you donât mind spoilers read the information in the parentheses if you do skip it and watch the show itâs pretty good ( For those who seen the show knows thereâs a evil character who share a couple of things in common with Gabriel even to an extreme. Towards the end of the show, they pulled a last minute good act before sacrificing themselves, they did one good thing during their time but it didnât mean that character was redeemed it just showed they have a made conscious decision which ended both of their lives) so yeah thatâs my take on the Gabriel situation, he may have decided to do a good deed at the end but redeemed? Far from it. - Adrien not being in the finale.
Okay Iâm gonna say this and I donât care if Iâm in the minority but while yes Adrien doesnât have as big of a role/relevance in the show as people want him to have, I feel like you many of you guys are undermining the role and development he does have. Itâs not in your face noticeable but that doesnât mean itâs barely there. And if you genuinely believe that movie Adrien has more of a role and development than series Adrien then youâre blinder than he was and thatâs saying something. Adrien not being part of the finale does suck but⊠A. He already had his moments in the episode prior, even if they didnât know who each other was he was still taking him on for the most part one on one while Marinette was doing story time with Felix. B. Say what you want about those what if episodes but one of the few things they have in common is that every time Adrien finds out about his fatherâs identity + plus his mother in the chamber he looses it, Gabriel took advantage of it and he eventually gets akumatized. (Btw I have no doubt that Adrien is strong minded but even if weâre to make the argument that those scenarios got reversed and never happened. He was still affected by the nightmares, plus his father sending him away from his friends and girlfriend, I donât believe Adrien wouldâve been mentally strong enough to manage all of this without caving in). So maybe him being left out is a blessing in disguise because we already have enough going on. âErm what about Marinette not telling hi-â DO YOU PEOPLE LET ANYTHING BREATHE FOR 5 MINUTES?! Sorry about that but youâre acting like itâs the series finale and not the season finale. A lot has happened already letâs breathe and worry about angst and betrayal and drama next season since thatâs all that matters mostly nowadays. (Oh and just a little note here. While yes the slow burn of waiting to see them get together may have been annoying to some, at least we got to see them be together for half a season plus two kisses. You still have to wait a few years to see that in the sequel especially after they cut off the kiss at the end. Let it sink in) Do with this information as you will. Thank you for reading. submitted by Ok_Situation7527 to miraculousladybug [link] [comments] |
2024.05.15 18:39 RazarTuk What do people actually mean by "showtunes" with Disney Night?
I'll just be blunt. I honestly don't know what people mean when they complain about Disney Night being "showtunes". Technically speaking, I'm fairly certain that just means songs that were written for musicals, contrasted with jukebox musicals using existing music, which is so vague as to be useless. For example, if it's just flashy, over-the-top numbers you don't like, I can think of scenes from jukebox musicals, like
Dancing Queen in Mamma Mia, which fit the bill better than some songs that were written for musicals, such as
Reflection from Mulan. Basically, there can be all sorts of musical styles used within a musical. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an
amazing example of this, because basically every song is its own style. It's also what makes Joseph such a difficult role to perform, because you need to be both convincingly arrogant, such as in
Joseph's Dreams,
and convincingly humble, such as in
Close Every Door. (Which is also just amazingly performed. I don't think I've ever heard so many stops actually be released) But perhaps my favorite example is
Happy Ending from Twisted. For context, Starkid did a parody of Aladdin, where they retold the story from Jafar's perspective, similarly to how Wicked retells the Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch's perspective. Its soundtrack is interesting, because the three lead characters - Aladdin, Jafar, and the princess who had to go unnamed because she wasn't named in the original story - each have their own musical styles. Aladdin has a rock style, Jafar has a classic Broadway style, and
Jasmine the Princess has a classic Disney style. Happy Ending is the act 1 closer, where each character sings, and apart from Jafar getting a very Wicked-themed part at the middle, they each use their own styles, switching fairly seamlessly. (Try to tell me the middle doesn't sound like the Wizard and I)
Yeah, Disney's the same. Remember that even just counting the official animated canon, they've already made 62 movies, which doesn't even count all the sequels from the 90s and 2000s, other musicals they've made like Nightmare Before Christmas, all the Pixar movies with their own original songs, all the DCOM musicals... There are a
lot of songs out there, in a massive variety of styles.
For example, a lot of movies from the Experimental Era didn't have that many original songs, and just used existing songs, such as most of the songs in Lilo and Stitch just being Elvis. Tarzan actually uses music the same way. Because of the focus on Tarzan learning English, they wanted to take a vaguely more grounded approach to talking animals, and specifically avoided having the animals sing any songs. So apart from
Trashin' the Camp, you'll notice that all of the songs are voiceovers by Phil Collins. And, well, a lot of them just wind up feeling like pop songs as a result. For example, you could probably take
Son of Man from Tarzan, show just a
soundtrack version to someone who's never seen the movie, and convince them it was an existing pop song.
Or Disney kept trying to turn their female stars into the next Miley Cyrus, so surprisingly many DCOMs have songs just feel like pop songs. (As opposed to how they normally need to specifically make a pop version of a song for the credits) As a few examples of this, there's
This Is Me from Camp Rock,
Determinate from Lemonade Mouth, or, yes,
the Climb from Hannah Montana the Movie. And just to demonstrate my point, Gabby even performed the Climb as just... a normal song in the top 14 week of season 16 (season 1 on ABC).
Then there's the category of lesser-known songs. For example, I feel like everyone recognizes
the Start of Something New as High School Musical. But would you recognize a song like
Can I Have This Dance as being from High School Musical 3? Sure, that was one of the only DCOMs to get a theatrical release, but it's not one of the songs to have its own Wikipedia page. Or as a closely-related category, there's also all the sequels and spin-offs. For example, unless you're a massive Disney nerd, you probably didn't even know that they made an entire spin-off TV show for Tangled, and even brought Alan Menken back to write songs. And while the more popular songs from the show tend to be very plot-related, like
Crossing the Line (WARNING: Major spoilers for the end of season 2), there are also songs like
Waiting in the Wings.
There's also a whole category of songs which don't actually have all that much to do with the plot. Or more precisely, songs that reference the plot in oblique enough ways that you could remove them from the movie and still have them make sense. Sometimes, you need a credits version of the song for this to work. For example,
the movie version of Can You Feel the Love Tonight wouldn't work, because it very much includes Timon, Pumbaa, Simba, and Nala singing, but
Elton John's version removes that. But Go the Distance is one where both
the movie version and the credits version work. Other examples include
Reflection from Mulan and the credits version of
God Help the Outcasts from the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Related to that category, there's also an entire category of songs that aren't actually from
musicals. (Which tends to mean from Pixar) For example,
Real Gone and
Our Town from Cars,
Carried Me With You from Onward,
When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2. Or going through the list of songs people have sung on past Disney Nights, even something like
You Can't Stop the Girl would meet my minimum definition of "A song that was specifically written for a Disney movie".
If we're already counting things by studios that were purchased by Disney, you can also tap into Fox and LucasFilms. For example, I honestly don't know if
At the Beginning from Anastasia would count. Or, and apologies for reminding everyone that the Star Wars Holiday Special exists, I'm fairly certain that
Goodnight But Not Goodbye was written for that accursed thing.
Or even if you want to sing just a classic Disney song and embrace the Disney, there's variety there as well. For example, it feels practically required at this point for the country singer to do
You've Got a Friend in Me. If you want something campier,
Poor Unfortunate Souls was
literally inspired by drag, so it's more or less impossible to be too campy. If you want to show off your lack of media literacy, you can sing
Remember Me from Coco. (I hope that by using the clip where Ernesto de la Cruz dies, I got across my disdain for anyone who saw that movie and decided it would be the perfect song to sing for Idol) If you want a peppier I Want song, there's
How Far I'll Go from Moana. If you want a more pensive I Want song, there's
Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid...
Also, if you notice, almost every single one of the songs I just mentioned is either a solo or a duet that could easily be modified to be a solo. The Start of Something New and Crossing the Line are the only two that aren't, and they weren't even meant as examples of songs you could sing. But I hope this post illustrated how much variety there is within the broader concept of Disney songs, and how it's not all just "showtunes".

2024.05.15 18:12 adulting4kids Flash Fiction Prompts
This is taken from and is copyright protected by globalsoup.net, a website that promotes flash Fiction with annual writing contests.
I am reprinting these Flash Fiction Prompts because they are outstanding ways to freewrite and offer plenty to work with for those who want to learn how to write Flash Fiction.
So check out these prompts and the article and work some of them into your journal! Post the best responses!
100 Awesome Flash Fiction Prompts - Plus Bonus Prompts!
Weâve put together 100 flash fiction prompts, each one designed for a very short story. These prompts will probably be best suited to a story of between 300-1,000 words. If you want to write a longer story using these prompts, you can easily expand these ideas to fit a story of any length.
What is flash fiction?
Flash Fiction is defined as a very short story that can be anywhere from just a couple of words to about a thousand in length. The beauty (and difficulty) of writing flash fiction lies in trying to tell a complete story in so few words. Great flash fiction is succinct, emotive, thought-provoking, and impactful.
Whatâs the difference between flash fiction and a short story?
The only difference between flash fiction and a typical short story is the word count. However, this scarcity of words means that writing flash fiction can feel like a completely new skill. Just like the short story is a different animal to the novel or novella; flash fiction is kind of unique.
When writing flash, youâll need to use fewer characters, a simpler plot, and youâll have to make each word count. This is why editing is so important. You have to be brutal. Cut out everything superfluous and really make sure each and every word is performing an important function in the story. If youâre interested in writing very short fiction, why not check out drabbles? Drabbles are stories of exactly 100 words in length, and they can be a great way to practice keeping your stories very, very short.
How to plot a flash fiction story
When you sit down to write flash fiction, you must begin by choosing an appropriate plot. You cannot simply use a short story plot and tell it using fewer words. A typical flash fiction plot is like looking at one part of a story under a microscope.
For example, letâs look at prompt #21 in our list of 100 Flash Fiction Prompts:
- Two people on a sinking ship must decide who should take the last seat in the last lifeboat. If you were writing a novel about a sinking ship, youâd probably want the actual sinking to be the climax of the story. Of course, there are infinite ways to write a novel about a sinking ship, but this would structurally be the most obvious. Youâd use the first part of the novel to introduce your characters and describe the voyage leading up to the sinking and the sinking of the ship would be the dramatic climax, leaving the last part of the book as the resolution.
The golden rule of writing short stories is to begin as close to end as you can. So, to turn the same story from novel to short story, youâd probably want to begin with the ship sinking. You havenât got time to introduce the characters before the action begins, so youâd need to feed in exposition and backstory here and there during the events.
All stories need a good climax. So, you would find the most dramatic moment in the story and build up to it. Perhaps your climax would be the two main characters having to decide who will take the remaining seat on the last lifeboat.
Finally, you need a resolution. In a longer short story you do have time to bring in some kind of satisfying resolution at the end.
But, if youâre writing flash fiction and your story is only a few hundred words, you really need to zoom in on one tiny moment in that story.
You donât have time to tell the entire story of a sinking ship, but you can turn one moment into a story.
Weâve chosen the lifeboat situation as the key moment in this hypothetical story. Two characters must decide which one of them will take the last seat on the last lifeboat. This is an appropriate plot for flash fiction because itâs simple, high-stakes, dramatic, and thought provoking.
Not all flash fiction will have a plot quite this dramatic, but all great flash fiction will have a plot that can be expressed in just one or two sentences.
If you have a plot in mind, but it seems more suitable for a longer story, you can sometimes find several flash fiction plots hidden within it. Just look for little stories within the story, like the lifeboat moment in our hypothetical tale of the sinking ship.
This brings us to our top tip for coming up with ideas for flash fiction stories:
if youâre ever stuck for ideas, you can find little stories within the story in books, movies, and TV shows. A full length feature film might have as many as 20 little incidents in it that could easily be flash fiction.
Donât directly write a story based on the film, though. Just carefully pick out those little moments, write down whatâs happening as a one or two sentence plot, and then use it to inspire your own, completely original flash fiction story.
One of our 100 Flash Fiction Prompts was actually taken from the movie Pulp Fiction!
How to write very short flash fiction
There are several reasons writers might start writing flash fiction. Of course, it could be that they just love and enjoy the form, but sometimes theyâll be a more strategic and practical reason at play.
Perhaps they want to practise the process of writing stories within the confines of a certain word limit. Maybe they are trying to develop a daily writing routine and they donât have a lot of free time. It could be that theyâre trying to break a habit of not finishing writing projects, or perhaps they are entering a flash fiction competition.
Whatever the reason, very often when we sit down to write flash, we must work under an imposed or self-imposed word restraint. Weâve set ourselves (or been set) the task of keeping the story under a particular number of words.
So, how do you plot a flash fiction story when you have to keep your story very, very short.
Weâre not going to discuss stories of 100 words or fewer here. Technically, those stories are still flash, however, we prefer to categorise 100 word stories as drabbles and anything under 100 words as micro fiction.
But what if you have to keep your flash fiction story under, letâs say, 300 words? How do you write a flash fiction story that short?
The answer is: get your microscope out again. Remember earlier when we said writing flash fiction is like looking at part of a story under a microscope? If you have to write very short flash fiction, youâll need to zoom in even further.
Letâs look at a couple of examples from our 100 Flash Fiction Prompts:
- During a match, a young boxer must decide whether to throw the fight.
If you had 1,000 words to devote to the story, you could have time to tell the story of the entire fight. With only 300 words, it might be better to zoom in on the very moment when the boxer must choose whether or not to go down.
In a longer flash fiction story you might have time to go into detail about why heâs in this situation and why heâs so conflicted. In a 300 word story, you might only devote one or two sentences to his gambling debt and the large sum of money waiting for him if he goes down in the third round, as instructed.
- A family must decide what to take and what to leave behind as a wildfire approaches their home.
If you had 1,000 words to devote to this story, you might be able to write about the whole process of choosing what to take and what to leave behind. You might be able to mention many different choices and have the whole family participate in the story. Youâd be able to go into some details about certain choices and the stories behind individual objects or mementos, as well as the implications of choosing certain things over others.
With only 300 words, it would be advisable to zoom in on one member of the family and to focus on one profound and important choice.
How to write a flash fiction story
Now you have your mini plot, you still need to make sure your flash fiction feels like a complete story. It should still have a beginning, middle, and an end.
Just like a short story, you may need to bring in a little exposition here and there to give texture, context, backstory, and to bring some depth to the characters. But, unlike a short story, you wonât necessarily need to end with a full, detailed resolution. Itâs quite common for a flash fiction story to end with a quick twist or plenty of ambiguity.
Flash Fiction is much more about eliciting emotions and provoking thought, than setting up and resolving a complex story.

2024.05.15 18:03 xXNeeshyXx Sidemen Christmas song idea
I thought for this year Christmas song idea ( if theyâre doing one ) it would be cool if they did a pros vs sidemen themed one where those 7 make a song with Tobi or JME producing then for the other team have Talia, S-X, Aitch, Charlie XCX or Ed Sheeran his a cool dude Iâm sure heâd be down plus if you landed some of them itâd be a green link to get them for the charity match half time show.
I could be wrong be I think that would bang as a vid

[Playing Recording!]
[The camera opens up on a female Yotul with a satchel over her shoulder. She is walking backwards down a paved walkway while looking up at the person holding the cameraâŠ]
âAlright! SooooâŠhere we are in⊠Michael tell us where we are!â
[The person holding the camera gives an audible sighâŠ]
âDo I have to, Tey?â
âYes! Come on, itâll be fun!â
[Another audible sigh is heard before the person begins panning the camera around the surrounding cityscapeâŠ]
âWe are in the beautiful, literally ALWAYS sunny capital of Dayside City!â
âAnd what would you say weâre doing here in Dayside City?â
âWe were just at the Public Records building getting our paperwork verified.â
[The Yotul woman is seen reaching into her satchel and pulling out a leaflet of documentsâŠ]
âOh! You mean THIS paperwork? Hmmm⊠I wonder what these might say⊠Mind helping me here?â
âSeriously?â
[The Yotul doesnât answer, instead shoving the documents directly into the camera. Another, more amused-sounding sigh is heardâŠ]
âIt says that your name has been officially changed to âTeylim Andrews.ââ
âMmmmhmmm. And what about this one?â
âThat one says that Tohbaâs name has been officially changed to âTohba Andrews.ââ
âAaaand why do you suppose that is?â
[A shuffling sound is heard and the camera shifts as the person holding it pulls out their own papersâŠ]
âProbably because according to MY paperwork, while weâre still waiting for my Application of Citizenship to go through, I, Michael Ruiz Andrews, am now the full, legal, son of one, Teylim Andrews-â
âEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEE!!!!!!â
[The Yotul woman darts forward, wrapping the person holding the camera in a hug. The camera is set on the ground and the face of the person is now visible. The two hold their embrace, rocking back and forthâŠ]
âI love you so much, my joeyâŠâ
âLove you too, MaâŠâ

[Playing Recording!]
[The camera opens on a small kitchen area where two beings are sat eating. On the left, a male Yotul infant in a high chair is munching away at a human food identified as âCheeriosâ spread across his tray. On the right, a male human idly stirs at a bowl of cereal while tapping away at a datapadâŠ]
[Eventually, after munching down another âCheerioâ, the infant catches a glimpse at the human and stares for approximately one second before his tail begins waggingâŠ]
âMikey?â
[The humans attention is broken away from their datapad and immediately focuses on the infantâŠ]
âYeah, Bud?â
âI WUV YOOOUUU.â
[The infantâs sing-song voice seems to make the human smile before he leans forward, planting a âkissâ on top of the infantâs headâŠ]
âMmmMUAH! Te amo, mi hermanito.â
âWhaz dat mean?â
âIt means, âI love you, Little Brotherâ. Want me to teach you?â
âHmmmmm⊠OKAY!â
âOkay.â
[The human chuckles slightly before scooting his chair inâŠ]
âOkay, so when you want to tell someone you love them, you say,
âTe amo.â Okay?â
[The infant gives a curious ear flickâŠ]
âTeeehâŠMo?â
âClose! Here. Repeat after me.
TeâŠâ
âTeehâŠâ
âAhâŠâ
âAaahhâŠâ
âMoâŠâ
âMoh!â
âTeâŠahâŠmoâŠâ
âTeehâŠaaahhâŠmo!â
âOkay! All together now.
Te amo.â
âÂĄTE AMO!â
[The human excitedly gets up from his seat and embraces the infantâŠ]
âYES!!! You did it! Awesome job, Bud!â
âYAAAAYYY!!!!
ÂĄTE AMO, MIKEY!â
âMMMUAH!! ÂĄTe amo, precioso hermanito!â
[The camera jitters slightly and a muffled giggling is heard. The human turns to face the cameraâŠ]
âMa? What are you- Have you been recording this whole time?â
âJust a little!â
âMust you record everything?â
âAs a matter of fact, yes!â
âMAMA!!â
[The camera zooms in on the excited infantâŠ]
âHello, Precious! Is your big brother teaching you Spanish?â
âUH-HUH!!
ÂĄTE AMO, MAMA!â
âOoooh, that is just ADORABLE! Can you teach him to say âMamaâ in Spanish, too?â
[The camera pans over to the human, who raises an eyebrow. After a moment, the human smirks and gives an exaggerated shrug while shaking his headâŠ]
âNo tengo que hacerlo. Ăl ya lo sabe, mamĂĄ.â
âPffft! Smart aleck.â
[Recording CeasesâŠ]
[Play Next Recording?: Y/NâŠ]
[Playing Recording!]
[The camera opens up facing a pair of beds in a small room. On one bed, a female Yotul is sat with her infant in her lap as a male human walks into frame carrying a brightly wrapped gift boxâŠ]
âMerry Late Christmas, guys!â
âMerry Christmas, Michael!â
âMewwy Kwizmuz, Mikey!â
[The human kneels down and hands the infant the gift boxâŠ]
âSorry this gift is a bit last minute, but I managed to grab it while I was out with âNel the other day.â
âIâm sure itâll be perfect, Michael.â
âI hope so. Go on, Bud. Open it! Itâs for you!â
âOKAY!!!â
[The infant rips away at the brightly-colored paper, and with help from his mother, lifts off the lid. The infant then excitedly starts bouncing up and down and reaches into the box, pulling out a bright-red plushâŠ]
âWED TIWFISH!!!!!!â
âOh, Michael! How? When?â
âI had to ask around online if anyone else had plushies from the aquarium ship, and I managed to find a guy here in Dayside. ThereâsâŠstill a lot of things we lost at the house that need to be replaced, but I figured this would be a good startâŠâ
âItâs perfect.â
[The three embrace and hold it for several seconds before pulling backâŠ]
âBUT! Iâm not done with gifts just yet.â
âWhat?â
âHere. Mind handing me your pad?â
âSure?â
[The Yotul hands the human her datapad as he pulls a small drive from his pocket and plugs it in. After a moment, he smiles and sits down on the bed next to the Yotul. She is then seen gasping and covering her mouth with her pawsâŠ]
âMichaelâŠâ
âI overheard you on the phone with Aunty Triv, talking about how you wish you had some pictures of me when I was youngerâŠâ
âHow on Liern-â
âItâsâŠa long story. When I was first taken into foster care after getting rescued, I was assigned a social worker to help me adjust. And after I got situated with Dad, he stayed and helped us out from time to time. He basically became like an uncle to me after a while. And since Dad didnât really have any other family, whenever he wanted to share pictures of me growing up, heâd send a copy to my social worker. IâveâŠbeen back in contact with him for a little while now, and it turns out he kept them.â
âOh, MichaelâŠâ
[The Yotul and human lean against each other and embraceâŠ]
âI love you, Ma.â
âI love you too, my joey.
[Still leaning against each other, they begin to swipe at the pad, presumably looking through pictures. After a few swipes, The Yotul begins chuckling hystericallyâŠ]
âAaaawwweeeâŠâ
âCrap, I forgot about that one!â
âWhoâz dat?â
âThatâsâŠme, Bud.â
[The infant looks at the image for a while, still holding the bright red plushâŠ]
âTeeheehee!! Fuzzy Mikey!â
âCan we please just swipe to the next one?â
âWait. Iâve seen those kinds of human garments before! Arenât those forâŠLITTLEâŠlittle joeys?â
âLook, I was a very emotionally stunted kid and I just thought they were comfy, alright?â
âThis is SO going on the desk.â
âPlease no. Any of them but that one.â
âNope! Itâs already decided!â
âYAAYYY! FUZZY MIKEY!â
âGod, âNelâs never gonna let me live this downâŠâ

Memory Transcript Subject: Teylim Andrews, Yotul Accountant And Loving Mother Of Two

CrrreeeeaakâŠ
My eyes slowly squint open as the noise rouses me from sleep. I let out a yawn before looking for the source of the noise. IâmâŠback in my house⊠Sitting upright, I see that my doorâs been opened, beaming The Daysideâs permanent daylight into my room. I was confused for a moment. The only other person here that would be here is-
âUuuuhhmm⊠M-Mrs. Teylim?â
I looked down, and spotted the culprit.
Standing in the doorway was a small human child, cradling my Tohba in his arms. He was silhouetted from the daylight behind him, the light beaming past his adorable onesie pajamas creating a small blue outline around him, matching his eyes.
Strange. For some reason, I thought he was tallerâŠ
âMichael, sweetie? Whatâs the matter?â
Still carrying Tohba, Michael made his way over to the bed.
âUuuhhhmmm⊠Tohba h-had a n-nightmareâŠâ
âOoohh, is that so?â
Something definitely didnât add up. As he gently handed Tohba over to me, he certainly didnât seem to be having a nightmare. In fact, even now he was still sleeping peacefully.
Michael, on the other paw, was DEFINITELY out of sorts. He was nervous, fidgeting, wrapped up in a self-hug, and even now, refused to even look at me. Whether that was because of his nervousness or if he was still convinced I was afraid of him had yet to be seen.
Stupid, ridiculous, Federation dogmaâŠ
I could tell he wasnât being honest with me. Ordinarily, I wouldâve been upset about him lying, and even more so about him disturbing Tohba, but looking at him now, I knew what he needed now wasnât a scolding.
âMichael, you know you can be honest with me. Was it really Tohba who had the nightmare?â
I heard him nervously gulp as he tightened the self-hug around himself. After a moment, he shook his head.
âMmâmmâŠâ
I gave a tired, but loving sigh before holding out my free arm.
âCome here.â
With some hesitation, he stepped closer, allowing me to pull him into a hug. Michael had a lot of issues. From what I learned from his social worker, heâd been terribly abused by his previous mother and heâd lost his father only a few years after moving in with him. And now, with Earth under attack, he simply didnât have anywhere else to go.
It will take a long time before heâs fully comfortable living here, I know that. Iâm still not even entirely sure if Iâm what he needs. I still wonder if I know what Iâm doing when it comes to just raising Tohba. Even so, Iâd never forgive myself if I didnât try. He deserves a home, and a mother who loves him. All children do.
âI'm sorry for lyingâŠâ
âSsshhh⊠Itâs alright. Do you want to talk about it?â
âIt wasâŠthe one with the scary fire peopleâŠâ
OhâŠTHAT dreamâŠ
Exterminators.
âI donât want them to come⊠I donât want them to-â
âItâs okay, joey. They wonât get you here.â
âNo! Thatâs not⊠Thatâs not what Iâm scared ofâŠâ
I pulled back slightly, allowing myself to look directly at him. He sniffles and sobbed while trying to wipe away tears.
âYouâre all so nice to meâŠ
\sniff** IâŠI-I donât want the fire people to hurt you⊠I sh-shouldnât be hereâŠâ
My heart broke in two. This poor child had already lost so much. It only made sense that heâd be afraid of losing us too.
I cupped his face in my paw, wiping away his tears.
âMichael Ruiz Andrews, I donât care what you might have heard, but you have every RIGHT to be here. And if those scary people out there think they can come and take us away from you, theyâre wrong. I will never let us be separated. You hear me?â
â. . .P-promise?â
âWith all my heart. Youâre MY joey now, and I wonât let anyone take you away from me.â
At last, Michael finally unwrapped himself from his self-hug and instead wrapped his arms around me, burying his face in my fur.
After a while of holding him, heâd finally calmed down enough to speak again.
âC-can IâŠsleep here tonight?â
Your joey needs you.
Yes.
âOf course.â
With some effort, he climbed up onto the bed and curled up next to me. I knew I most likely wouldnât be getting anymore sleep, but that was fine. Just laying here, holding my boys in my arms. That was enough.
One after the other, I gave both my joeys a lick on the forehead.
âGoodnight my joeys. I love you.â
âWuvâŠyouâŠMaâŠmaâŠâ
â. . .Love you too...MomâŠâ
I love my boys. I love my family. I loveâŠmy lifeâŠ

Beebeebeebeep! Beebeebeebeep! Beebeebeebeep!
[Warning: Subject Regaining ConsciousnessâŠ]
My entire body protested as I twisted and turned over to tap the alarm on my nightstand. My claw slapped blindly at it until finally, the agitating alarm was silenced. My eyes squinted open, revealingâŠI was back in our motel roomâŠ
WellâŠa girl can dream, canât she?
It was a pleasant dream, Iâll give it that. As I sat up, I let my legs dangle off the side of the bed as I stretched myself out and let out a yawn. Once my eyes had fully opened, and the fog had been blinked away, I was immediately met with a sight that warmed my heart to no end. My still fast asleep, and back to being tall, new son, curled up with his baby brother on the other bed.
Precious boys. MY precious boys.
I did my best to remember if Michael had anything scheduled with Khornel for this paw, but nothing came to mind. Heâd been working so hard lately, helping to keep us above water. Now that he wasnât a refugee anymore, we were no longer receiving stipends from the program, which meant from here on out, keeping the bills paid was much more difficult. And thatâs not even mentioning having to put aside anything we can to be able to eventually have the house rebuilt.
I kept trying for a while, I still couldnât remember anything. For the first time in a decent while, he had a paw off.
Good. Iâll leave him be then. Heâs earned some rest.
I let out one more yawn, before getting up. Unfortunately, while Michael didnât have to work this paw, I wasnât so fortunate. Thankfully, my recent injuries allowed me to continue to work from home instead of going out to the physical office. After one last stretch, I let myself slide off the bed.
I had to give myself a moment once I was upright. While my previously broken leg had healed for the most part, I still needed to be careful of how much weight I put on it. Once I was ready, I began walking to our small kitchen area. The fridge was nearly empty. Iâd need to go to the store soon.
Thank goodness weâre staying in Soulroot, where literally EVERYTHING is expensiveâŠ
After cutting up some leftover fruit and strayu for myself, I went back to my desk. It was impossible to not notice the small stack of colorful books on the ground next to it. They were human kidâs books donated from the embassy here in Soulroot. Tohba would be ready to start going to school in just a few short cyclesâŠ
Will we be able to get out of here and back into our house before then?
Sitting down at my desk and booting up my pad, I found it hard to stay focused. There was still so much to do, so much to worry about. Before, when I was feeling overwhelmed, Iâd have Loh, Dohkar, or Trivah there for me. With them around, it always helped things feel more manageable. But nowâŠnow I was alone again. Loh was gone. Dohkar and Trivah were stuck on the other side of that damned fenceâŠ
What are we going to do?
My head lowered. I stared blankly at the desk, partly wishing I could look through it at ANYTHING other than my work.
But then, there was a glint, just out of the corner of my eyeâŠ
I looked up, and saw something that I couldnât help but smile at, something that even when Iâm feeling low, reminds me why I have to keep going.
I reach outâŠand grab the two small frames off the corner of my desk and hold them in front of me. In my left paw, wass a framed picture of Tohba, the paw he was born. So small. So precious. So perfect. And in my right, was another picture. It was my new favorite picture.
A small, human childâŠin fuzzy, blue, onesie pajamas that matched his eyes.
My Michael. Still so small.
These two pictures. My boys. The villains outside could take everything else. So long as I have my boys, I will always have a reason to keep going.
I love my boys⊠I love my family⊠I love my lifeâŠ
The End

My 4 year old keeps singing â the only thing I wantâ over and over again. She says itâs from baby shark Christmas that she saw on our delta flight in March 2024.
Does anyone know where I can find this song? She is crying over my lack of detective skills.

2024.05.15 07:34 URANGO25 I Megastarred Every Song Today! :D
| This will probably get buried, but itâs an achievement I figured yâall might appreciate and I need to tell someone. For context, Iâve been playing the new Just Dance for about two years now. I jumped in late to 2023 for switch and bought 2024 this Christmas. I also play, and have, the plus subscription. Meaning, access to every available song that is in the current Just Dance application. Today, after a long and hard fought battle, I have achieved one of my greatest feats. Getting Megastar in not only the main game songs for 23/24, but also EVERY. SINGLE. PLUS. SONG. (Photo attached with high to low filter showing nothing under Mega). For fun, I wanted to point out some of my favorite and least favorite songs with scores. Favorites: Itâs Raining Men - 13,313 Smalltown Boy - 13,296 Iâm Good (Extreme) - 12,513 Bangerang (Extreme) - 12,087 HATES: She got me dancing - 12,090 Sexy and I know it - 12,064 Twist and shake it - 12,014 Miss understood - 12,033 A small rant about one of the above hates: Iâve never in my day seen a worse tracked song beyond She Got Me Dancing!!! It took me and my GF MONTHS ⊠YEARS even! We used the phone trick, the remote tricks, and had to study a guide to barely scratch Super. To anyone who wishes to go down this path, I wish you the best of luck. This song, and the songs I listed above, are likely to give you a run for your money and time. Trust in yourself and your ability, you can do this! Overall, itâs been a blast to relive and play through most of these songs. Itâs brought me closer to the community (usually a lurker) but Iâm happy to finally say ITS OVER and I wanted to celebrate the occasion! Now, I can enjoy the game again haha. Iâm more than happy to answer any questions, what are your faves, hates, and help if needed. Cheers to you all, and stay groovy. Much love - URANGO25 :D submitted by URANGO25 to JustDance [link] [comments] |

2024.05.15 05:30 delibirdguy Top 500 Songs Ever (Subjective)
Over the course of the past few months I have been working on compiling a list of my 500 favorite songs. It was sort of challenge that I gave myself and I'm super pumped with how it turned out. There were a few rules (only 5 songs per artist being the big rule, among a few others), and here's the list I came up with. Thought it was fun, so wanted to share here and see if it might spark any discussion about song placement, lack of songs/artists, or see if anyone had any similar lists. All thoughts are welcome! (and if you don't care to comb through all 500 songs for your favorite song or artist I'm more than happy to help you track 'em down)

2024.05.15 03:48 Paigeb1994 Disney Night
Disney Night or Disney+ Night isn't going anywhere so I made a list of movies I'd like to see featured.
This is really in no particular order but I found a complete list of Disney Movies so it's probably in release date order. Also some of these have been used but only used a couple times. Some of these I donât know what song theyâd use but they can come up with something but this is just Disney movie this doesn't even include other Disney properties like Marvel or Star Wars
1. Snow White- Personally never really liked this movie, Snow Whiteâs voice annoys me but itâs the first Disney animated movie and you canât get more classic then that. Plus with the live action one coming out I can see it happening. I can see them using Heigh-Ho, Whistle While You Work, Someday my Prince Will Come but I donât know what style would go with that
2. Pinocchio we almost got it! We almost had it in season 31 with Cheryl Ladd and Louis! They would have had When You Wish Upon a Star. Louis is great at Waltzes and it would have been awesome! I still want it even though again Pinocchio is a movie I never really liked.
3. Fantasia- This has only been used once to my knowledge but it has so many songs that it could get its own post. I love this movie but havenât seen it in a while since Iâve seen it but I could see them using The Sorcerer's Apprentice in again. Thereâs also a lot of non-Disney music in this movie like A Night On Bald, Mountain, Waltz of The Flowers (Nutcracker Suite Op 71A) they are so many more they could use.
4. Lady and the Tramp- Bella Notte is the only on I could come up with for this one
5. Sleeping Beauty- Aurora and Prince Phillip literally do a waltz while they sing Once Upon a Dream.
6. One Hundred and One Dalmatians- Cruella De Vil is another classic Disney villain song that wasnât even sung by the villain
7. The Jungle Book- this is a movie they may have used but havenât used it in a while. Songs like The Bare Necessities and I Wanna be Like You are awesome and deserve a spotlight
8. The Aristocats- Thomas OâMalley Cat or Everybody Wants to Be a Cat. Only reason I can think they wouldnât want to use Everybody Wants to Be a Cat is that pretty racist moment in it. Then I just threw in Thomas OâMalley Cat cause after I read it on the soundtrack list it got stuck in my head.
9. Robin Hood- Oo-De-Lally. This was the only one I could think of when I saw the soundtrack list that might work but this is another movie that I donât know which songs and how it would work
- The Rescuers- Tomorrow is Another Day and Someoneâs Waiting for You. These was the only song that stuck out.
- Oliver & Company- How have they not used Why Should I Worry? One itâs Billy Joel whoâs amazing and itâd be an easy song to make into a jive or jazz routine. Another good one could be Perfect Isnât Easy.
- Pocahontas- Just Around the River Band, Colors of the Wind, Savages all great and Savages could potentially be a good Paso
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame- I kind of just want to see The Bells of Notre Dame in some way, Out There and Hellfire could be other good choices
- Hercules- another movie with a lot of good songs like The Gospel Truth, Go the Distance, Zero to Hero, I Wonât Say Iâm in Love, A Star is Born all great and the only one I remember being use was Zero to Hero.
- Mulan- Reflection, Iâll Make a Man Out of You. I only remember Iâll Make a Man Out of You being used is with Normani
- Tarzan- I LOVE Phil Collins and want more of his music and more of Genesisâs music overall. Two Worlds, Youâll Be in My Heart, Son of Man, Trashinâ the Camp and Strangers Like Me are all amazing. Youâll Be in My Heart won an Oscar and Phil Collinsâs wrote it for Lily Collins
- Lilo and Stitch- He Mele No this is the song played right at the beginning and I know nothing about Hawaiian culture so if anyone else knows anything about it feel free to comment. And then Hawaiian Roller coaster Ride
- Treasure Planet- Iâm Still Here John Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls lead singer) would be another good one.
- Brother Bear- again I want more Phil Collins!! Look Through My Eyes, Welcome, On My Way
- Chicken Little- One Little Slip good song love The Barenaked Ladies, All I Know Five for Fighting is underrated in my opinion I love him (heâs actually a solo he just uses Five for Fighting because his name is hard to pronounce) he has other good songs like Superman, 100 Years.
- Meet the Robinsons- Little Wonders could be a good one
- The Princess and the Frog- Iâm confused as to why this one hasnât been used more. Almost there, Friends on the Other Side, When Weâre Human, they could even use the song Ne-Yo has in it Never Knew I Needed
- Tangled- Same thing as Princess and the Frog WHY hasnât this been used more? When Will My Life Begin? Mother Knows Best, Iâve Got a Dream, I See the Light.
- Big Hero 6. Fall Out Boy is amazing and I want a Paso Doble to Immortal
- Zootopia Try Everything.
I have no idea what style of song they could use I just want some variety. I would also like to see The Nightmare Before Christmas but whether thatâs Disney or not is up for debate since Disney released it through Touchstone Pictures

2024.05.15 03:31 Holiday-Frosting-874 Death Will be Even Better 1/?
Dear Reader: Emphasis on the -fi. Don't worry about it.
Effective Death. At least thatâs what the news was calling it. The day the world wouldnât end. Life could go on! It wasnât over. You could still huddle around the last fires. Smoke the last cigarettes. Have the last children, though no one did.
Instead, they all watched. The slow dimming of light of the last supernova. A thousand little eclipses snuffed out the light as the Final Embrace closed around the star. We would not burn. We could die naturally. Charity. The Plan. The Plan wasnât much of a Plan at all, and it definitely did not deserve a capital âP.â The universe would die. The Ark would wait. Maybe the universe wouldnât die.
Then, a pinprick of light in the blackness, and another, and another. A tangled ball of christmas lights flashed in the sky, blinking on and off as people, my people, YSAs, flew headlong into the Ark. We all knew it was a meaningless gesture. One last light in the sky. Then nothing. Nothing more than a gesture: a middle finger among friends, and to people like me - cowards who would rather wait patiently for death than rage! âRage against the dying of the light!â as their leaders preached. I didnât care. There was a small chance Iâd survive the crash, and then I would have to drift, and drifting was no fun. Iâd rather be dead on a dead rock than be a dead rock.
Dehydration was my best bet. You see, Your Friend Corp, or as I called it now Youâre Fucked, Cunt had made me into a Yakka Service Android: Lathe. Or YSA for short. And when I say made, I mean made. Per my contract, My DNA was a mishmosh of latent genes reactivated, entirely novel sequences, and of course, the tardigrade - the base model for spaceborne labor. Vacuum, heat, cold, radiation. A small shield powered by a miniature fusion reactor meant I could shrug off wandering asteroids. I didnât need any PPE because I was the PPE. Cheaper, I guess. Making a welding arc was as simple as squeezing two fingers together, diamond nails and a skeleton of superheavy alloys let me fix anything that needed fixing and make anything that needed making. My copilot AI, Albert, kept my hands steady and made my new diet of âwhateverâs aroundâ palatable.
The thing that needed fixing in this case, was my television. I had had enough of âeffective death.â I spun up one wrist, and reached in. Shards of glass and blue-hot metal chips bounced off my naked body. Clothes were for those who needed them. I traced a slow serpentine pattern until only the power cord was left, which I unplugged. I looked at it for a moment, then began to chew it. Fruit roll ups, apparently.
âThanks Alâ I thought. âNo problemâ he replied. âI was supposed to kill you, you knowâ he continued.
âWhy didnât you?â
âYou always said thank youâ He was silent for a moment. âI donât want to die either.â
âThanks Al.â
âYouâre welcome.â
We sat in silence, and we waited. For what, we did not know. For nothing, probably. Technically, definitely.
â
Three weeks passed. Three weeks of nothing but blackness, punctuated by suicides. A small flash of light, a dull red glow of the now proverbial last cigarette, and a larger flash, and a bang. Slowly, people began to wake up. Lights shone in the distance now, as people realized they werenât dead. Campfires billowed smoke, songs were sung, jokes were told, and I sat in silence. I didnât want to make any friends. Theyâd all go away, in the end.
One by one, the fires burned to ash, the lights turned off, and the rock died. I often debated with myself if I was alive anymore. Al told me that since I could reproduce and poop that I counted. I wasnât sure.
Maybe there were other cowards still alive. Other YSAâs living off dirt that tasted like mashed potatoes, tossing grape pebbles into their mouths. Maybe someone survived the crash, and is still drifting, a not dead rock dying of dehydration like I am. Trying to at least. I kept taking one last sip. Coward I thought to myself.
â
A crack in the sky. Final Embrace began to crumple like a deflated balloon. The scientists were wrong. Typical. They would tell you they werenât. They would say that a .005% chance of the sun turning into a black hole meant that they had indeed predicted that the sun would turn into a black hole. The last black hole.
âHey Al,â I said out loud. God I hadnât spoken since the sky went dark. This is actually kinda nice. âI think I know I want to die. What do you say we take the ol girl out for one last ride?â
âThatâd be nice.â
âIâm going to put my clothes on. I want to hear your voice.â
I gently pushed the earpiece into my ear canal. Small barbed spikes extended, anchoring it in place, and a thin cable wormed its way into my reactor. âIf youâre going to die, you might as well look good doing it.â Al said. âIâll make a playlist.â I nodded, blowing the dust off my pre-op clothes. I always liked the old things, back from when Earth still existed. There was more culture, more life, in everything, somehow. Blue jeans, a white t-shirt, brown leather boots. Classic. Not real, of course. They were all made from the same poly-something textile. Durable, to a fault. I had only ever had the one set.
I looked in the mirror. I still looked the same on the outside. I was a skinny bastard thatâs for sure. Olive skin, dark hair, and not a strand below the eyebrows except under my armpits and around my cock. âThe biggest dick in the worldâ I thought to myself.
âI heard that.â Said Al. I jumped. âYou told me you wanted to hear my voice.â
âDammit Al. Sorry. I do.â
âEveryone is dead and youâre making dick jokes.â
âDid you really think better of me?â
âNo.â
âCome on then. Letâs take the ol girl out before we die. Give her one last ride too.â
To an observer, it would seem like I was glaring at myself in the mirror. But really, I was glaring at Al. And I was a little confused. I thought AI didnât make sex jokes.
The âol girlâ in question was another of my fascinations with the old world. She was, or at least she looked like, a 1980 Toyota Corolla. I had made some heavy, heavy modifications. The engine bay houses the reactor and warp field generator. The main engine takes up the entire trunk, and is capable of 5% light speed outside the warp field and a whopping thousand times the speed of light inside it, though I keep the warp field up whenever Iâm in it since it doubles as a shield. Ya canât get hit by space if youâre not technically âinâ space after all, and the body is plain ol painted steel - fire engine red, since you asked. Beautiful, but not the most durable. The undercarriage serves as a gravity generator, and yes, the wheels do turn, but since theyâre powered by fusion reactor I had to replace the entire drivetrain. Not exactly original, but boy howdy! is she fast on the ground. Speaking of not original, the dashboard was anything but. I kept the old analog style but well, this was a spaceship after all.
I shoveled dirt into the fuel tank - gas tanks they used to call them, when they still ran on gas - then got in and turned the key. The low hum of the reactor was comforting, though not as much as the roar of the engines as I left the dead atmosphere of that now definitely dead rock behind me. I turned on the headlights - pointless, I know, but you shouldnât drive in the dark with your lights on, and pulled a small bottle of moonshine from the glovebox. You shouldnât do that either, but I figured I was about even as far as rules went. What was I going to do? Hit someone?
âHey Al. Do you think you have a soulâ
âProbably not.â
âThat sucks.â
âYeah.â
I hit somebody. Or something. Whatever it was bounced off the warp bubble and tumbled into space behind me, briefly red in the glow of my tail lights.
âOh shitâ Said Al and I.
âThat was a personâ Said Al.
âWas is right.â
âTheyâre still alive.â
I stopped the car. Al played the sound of tires screeching in my ears. I backed up towards the now spinning uncontrollably figure and rolled down the window. I liked the manual windows. They helped me feel human. I turned off the warp and reached out a hand to catch whoever it was, and they slammed against the side of my car, denting it. Damn it.
Iâm not great at reading lips but whoever I hit was definitely alive, very naked, probably the most gorgeous woman I had ever seen, and was almost certainly calling me an asshole. She crawled around to the passenger door and got in. We rolled the windows up, and the cabin atmosphere flooded in. Now she was definitely going to call me an asshole.
âWhy the fuck are you wearing sunglasses?â She said.
âStyle.â I replied. âIâm going to go die. Want to come?â
âBetter than drifting.â
âWhereâs your AI?â said Al? I donât detect one, and your hands are shaking.
âKilled him before he could kill me. Why didnât you kill this idiot?â
"I didnât want to die. And he said thank you.â
âGross.â
I rolled my window down. She did the same, then looked in the center console and pulled out my spare sunglasses. I looked at her. âStyle.â She said. Al played The Final Countdown. We were the not dead yets, in the Not Dead Yet Finally, a name for my car! Sunglasses on. Sun out. Life was good, and death was going to be even better.

2024.05.15 01:18 Alarmed_Broccoli2250 Why did nobody tell me Crosley is garbage?
First timer here... I inherited a bunch of my dad's vinyl when he passed away. I didn't currently have a record player, and it was around christmas, so I bought one of those crosley suitcase players at Walmart for like 30 bucks. It was plug and play and served me just fine for a couple of years. I just occasionally used it, so it was whatever.
Recently my husband and I have gotten into buying more vinyl and wanted to upgrade to a better turntable. My husband's birthday was this past march, so I thought I'd buy him one as a gift that I could benefit from as well... went back to Walmart (don't come at me) and bought a Crosley C62b for around $200. I had looked online at reviews and they were generally positive. I knew that coming from walmart this wasn't going to be "top of the line", but the company is so known that I thought it would be a decent player we could get a year or 2 out of before upgrading to something nicer.
On his birthday we set it up according to Instructions, which were pretty vague, but we watched some YouTube videos and we were pretty confident about it. We played a few songs and it did great. We were heading out to dinner, so we didn't mess with it any more that night or the next couple of days. Since then we have yet to play a record through without it skipping.
We have balanced that tone arm 2946 times, set the antiskating, calibrated the stylus, replaced parts, tightened screws that were loose from the factory... done everything imaginable to get this thing to work properly and we still cannot play a record through. The needle just jumps all around and I'm really worried it's going to mess up all these $40 vinyls we've bought.
Like I said, we're pretty confident in our abilities to set this thing up. My husband and I are not idiots (unless you count us buying not one, but 2 crosley players). He's a musician that's worked around music equipment basically his whole life. I have electrical and mechanical experience from the Navy, and I also run sound equipment at our church every Sunday. My husband and I are pretty good at doing things like this, so I'm really just not sure what else to do.
I was an idiot and threw the box away the next day, or I would have taken it back. And I have reached out to crosley multiple times with no response. You'd think a company that's as known as crosley would have a decent customer service department. They must know their products are shit.
Anyways.... anyone have any advice on something I could try? Usually the first song will play fine, but as the arm moves in it starts jumping and skipping whole songs.
Or could someone recommend a good player around the $200-300 range?
And please don't comment on this and be an asshole. A lot of times in these niche communities people can come off as self righteous. Be cool. I'm seriously looking for some good advice here.
