There is an essay by "raver anthropologist" Simon Reynolds that has become a kind of cult thing amongst Hardcore Techno aficionados. It got published in The Wire in 1998; it turned into a cult object not only because it was one of the rare cases where Hardcore music was mentioned in a bigger zine during the late 90s (as opposed to the many badly xeroxed Hardcore-fanzines, with a run of ~50 copies, of which most were destined to end up on soaked squat party toilet room floors), but because it also focused on a very specific person: Marc Acardipane, his releases, and his label family. [1]
In it, he called Marc "the forgotten man of Techno", and followed up with the reasons for that: even though he was right there at the proper beginning of "Techno", was hugely influential, and good friends with many people that are now considered to be true pioneers and legends by vox populi, he fell out of favor when Hardcore itself fell out of favor amongst the Techno folk; because he stayed true to his "core roots" and didn't disown them, like so many other producers did on their way up to the place amongst the stars (and on their way down to the sewers again).
But let's move on from Simon, The Wire, and the year 1998. What happened after that date? First, Marc itself was pulled out from the "shadow zones"; because at least the Hardcore and Gabber scene finally remembered its Techno roots, and kept worshiping those roots again; although under different monikers, such as "oldschool", "oldstyle", "early rave", and so on - I guess "the names have been changed to protect the innocent". This meant that "Technoid Hardcore" could be enjoyed at Hardcore parties and festivals once more (often on separate floors), which led to a lot of gigs and exposure for Marc and his Planet Core Productions sound. [Note: PCP aka Planet Core Productions was a label family run by Marc Acardipane and Thorsten Lambart in the 90s.] It also influenced the Hardcore scene as a whole. A succession of genres such as "newstyle", "millennium" and "mainstyle" came into existence; genres that to 98% were built upon PCP and PCP-adjacent tracks: "Stereo Murder" (produced by Acardipane), "Atmos-Fear" (produced by Acardipane), "Poltergeist" (released on his label), "Flesh is the Fever" (released on Things To Come Records, a label with personal ties to PCP and that was inspired by PCP), plus various others.
This was already a good thing. But then, slowly but steadily, the Techno folk re-gained their interest in Hardcore and harder sounds, too; and now that the "millennial dominance" of the Techno scene, together with their favoring of minimalist and dandy-esque sounds, is slowly fading away, a younger generation is taking over the scene, and that new generation is very, very hardcore.
This led to a renewed interest in the works of Marc Acardipane, his crew, and his output again, coming straight from the heart of the Techno world. Marc himself acknowledged this development in some of his interviews, and added that the Techno people are sometimes even more zealous and knowledgeable about this music than the die-hard old-school gabbers!
A very fine evolution indeed; and we hope Marc gets into the spotlight again because of this, and that he finally reaps the respect that he deserves!
But why is the Techno folk favoring him and his sound specifically - in fact, more than a lot of other "Hardcore" players? I think this is because - and now we cycle back to 1998's "The Wire" essay - his sound is *indeed* heavily connected to Techno. It's not just some ultra-aggressive, ultra-noisy Gabber outing. It's real, true, bona fide Techno music. More than that, it represents a "road not taken" in the history of Techno music. Because, when you go back to the advent of Techno, to Detroit, Chicago, Berlin, London, Frankfurt, there was always a Hardcore contingent. Hardcore was always part of the Techno spirit, it helped to shape and mold the Techno sound. Alas, as mentioned above, it got disowned, and it became almost "forbidden" to speak of this type of music within Techno circles.
A liminal space that always lingered next to the scene as time moved on; a place that people did not dare to enter.
All this is changing now again. And while "every boy and his dog" (i.e. zines, webcasts, music academies) had their own Marc Acardipane feature by now, focusing on his more Hardcore and Gabber output, we decided to do the very opposite here, and showcase the Techno tracks from the past days of the PCP oeuvre, released using a cornucopia of aliases.

The Mover - Over Land and Sea how can one not love this track? great techno beats, rhythms, groove... and then this cosmic, celestial arrangement in the middle... the beats come back in, and the dancefloor erupts into madness. the flip side ("underwater operations") is also very well worth a listen.

2. Cyborg Unknown - The Year 2001 (Deep in Detroit mix) this is going deep into the history of detroit techno indeed. it's not enough to be friends of the jaguar here, this track channels cybotron just as much as it does metroplex. funky!

3. Trip Commando - Cross The White Line a techno behemoth of the most epic proportions. has probably one of the most elongated build ups in dance history, until the epic cinematic breakdown unfolds. highly recommended!

4. Turbulence - Whurlstorm this was on the second release by Industrial Strength Records - a label that shaped Hardcore history, too. it starts as a nice little nasty techno track, until everything breaks apart in the mid-riff, and turns into a hurricane of bass frequncies.

5. The Mover - Nightflight (Nonstop 2 Kaos) and this was on Industrial Strengh Records number one! As Lenny Dee licensed "We Have Arrived" (a fantastic hardcore track, to say the least) for his label, and put that number on the back side. a cold groove, percussion that almost feels like a breakbeat... lots of bass, cyber-synth.... this is just dancefloor heaven.

6. Countdown Part V - Untitled (A1) Countdown FFM is another sub-label to go for if one is looking for some technoid gems. stellar electronic intro, then we get into dance grooves, and things become more deviant as acid sounds sneak in.

7. Alien Christ - Of Suns and Moons (Phase II) inspired by "Suburban Knights - The Art of Stalking" (a true classic, originally released on Transmat). Marc made this influence his own, and delivered a very detroit-ish underground rave anthem.

8. The Mover & Lunatic Asylum – Frequency Surfers Lunatic Asylum aka "Dr. Macabre" is another person that was entwined with electronic music history while turning into a global player in the hardcore sector at a later date. this is a joint-venture of these two titans of techno, and the result is a very trippy, very twisted and surreal track.

9. The Mover - Astral Demons (Original Mix) you should have realized by now: the mover is a synonym for high quality productions. this is one of my favorite pics from the legendary "frontal sickness" releases; and indeed adds a very demonic vibe to the whole dance thing.

10. Rave Creator - A New Mind (Thai Acid Mix) "Thai" was a pcp sub that focused specifically on techno, acid, even a bit of trance-ish tracks. despite the alias, this was put out on DE 2001 instead. It's a remix of the famous "A New Mind" track.
starting with pure bass drones. it builds up very slowly, until thunderous, reverberated bass drums come in, and then it goes into full-on acid feeding. similar to "cross the white line", this track could be given the title "cinematic techno soundtrack".

Nice to meet you, I'm Dylan! To put it simple, I am a single 22 year old man who has been pretty lonely in life and lacking in female connection and interaction. I've been feeling a little bummed out lately. I always try and stay happy and see the best in things. But.. I've just been so alone. Most of my whole childhood and adult years have been spent feeling lonely. I grew up surrounded by cornfields which was peaceful but also has a lonely aspect to it. My family never really were close and never did anything as a family really. And part of it too is the fact that I never had any neighbors my age to interact with. But aside from that, my adult life has been very lonely. I'm just always by myself. I barely have any meaningful adult relationships or experiences, or even any friends.
I work a 3-11 job in building maintenance at my company world headquarters building which I love, but again it's very lonely. I work the off shift so the building is always empty. I don't get normal social interaction with people my age or a chance to build relationships. I only have 3 older men as co-workers and we are mostly in the basement away from any people on the floors from knowing our existence. I always walk the floors and see office people laughing and chatting with their coworkers and I just don't have that kind of experience. And just.. no one knows I exist really. Everyone probably assumes I have a lot of friends, but I'm struggling inside with being so alone and trying to meet people and get past the "hi how are you?" "I'm good thanks" stage. Most people don't seem to want to talk beyond that. And most women are already in relationships and thus it would seem weird to approach them in an office setting trying to get to know them deeper. But man those "hi how are yous" are the only real interactions I get during my day.. so thus I decided to come here lol. Rant over, sorry! I promise I'm not a downer. 😅
Now for some things about me!
As you can tell, I am very mature for my age and am polite and have good grammar which unfortunately not everyone my age does anymore lol. I am not active at all on social media/internet culture really and don't know much about all the slang the younger people these days use. I feel like I'm 50. 🤣
I am left handed which is pretty cool. I'm not much of a party person or a drinker, I much prefer a quiet night at home and maybe a beer or two on a weekend but that's about it. I am simple and stay out of drama and trouble and don't get much into politics or other things that cause drama with people. I much prefer a relaxing campfire and a night at home and to just let the world keep on turning haha. I consider myself pretty intelligent and mature, especially for my age which is why I'm open to older ladies.

• Photography
I have a Nikon D200 and D5500 that I love to shoot with. I love nature scenes, abstract, black and white/goth kinda photography, sunsets, etc. it's so fun to just let your mind explore. It's not about what camera you have, but those who are behind the camera! I'm gonna try and photograph the northern lights tonight!
• Cooking and baking
I loveeee to cook and bake! I enjoy making various meals but also love to just have a frozen pizza once in awhile or something like that. I recently made homemade chili which turned out great. I love to bake, especially in the fall! I love pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. I restored a vintage KitchenAid mixer that needed tbe gearbox rebuilt. Eventually I would love to practice home canning my own food.
• Music
Oh my gosh, I like so much!! Alternative rock, punk, post punk, electronic, synth pop, psychedelic rock, hard rock, etc. I am very non judgemental and open when it comes to music. My three current favorite bands are Type O Negative, Joy Division, and the Cure.
• Nature walks and camping
I really enjoy camping, making fires, and relaxing by a campfire. I love to take walks outside and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of nature. It's wonderful, especially in a world so focused on everything digital.
• Repairing things
I'm a maintenance guy and one of my hobbies is electronics repair so I am good with my hands and just all around good at troubleshooting and fixing all sorts of things around the house. Last week I helped my elderly neighbor get his tractor started, it needed a new component in the starting circuit. So I'm pretty handy which... Comes in handy! 😂
• Autumn 🍁
This isn't a hobby per say, but man do I love the fall!!! It's my absolute favorite time of the year. Oh my gosh. The beautiful colors, crisp cool air, misty and foggy days, rain, lack of bugs, being cuddled up with a candle or by the fire drinking a tea, etc. I love it! There's only two seasons for me. Fall, and waiting for fall! Haha.
• Scented Candles and incense
Going along with my love for fall, I absolutely love candles! I have like 30 something lol. 😂 Currently my favorite are WoodWick, which are owned by Yankee candle. They have such a soothing crackle and the scents are great! I also love to burn incense from time to time as well. I have cottagecore hippie vibes.
• Old houses and architecture
I love old houses! Especially 1900s and Victorian era homes. Old homes have so much character to them and are just so beautiful from a time when people took pride in their craft. I strongly dislike the modern cookie cutter cheap construction of homes today. I would love to live in an old home one day. I also love their architecture and uniqueness, as well as architecture of old cathedrals and other buildings.
• Relaxing
Basic I know, but sometimes on the weekend I just love to get cozy in bed and relax and put on a YouTube video or an album! 😊

This is a situation that happend two years ago with my boyfriend. I was 20 and he was 21 at the time. We met in high school when we were 18 and he was my first boyfriend, first kiss, and lost my virginity to him. He had 2 girlfriends in the past but they were just high school stuff. We were coming up on 3 years together.
Anyways, a few months before my 21st birthday me and a few friends found a 18+ latin lounge to go to on a friday. This was my first time ever going out. We went and sat in a small section when a girl in another section invited us over to give us drinks. She was with her boyfriend and a few of his friends. Everything is fine we are just making small talk with the other group when one of the guys asks me to dance. I said no I don’t know how to dance to latin music but he insists said he would show me. I was very nervous but accepted and my rational at the time was as long as it’s not sexual dancing, it’s okay? (I now realize this is wrong). I made sure to keep distance between us but I knew I should’ve just said no. When me and my friends are leaving, he asks for my number and I say no so then he asks for my Snapchat and I thought fine I’ll just give it to him and will just un-add later. He tries messaging me and I ignore and he says “ I knew you had a boyfriend” and I said “yes” and never spoke again.
The next day I feel so awful and I think about if I would like it if my boyfriend did that to me, and the answer is of course no. I was sick with guilt, remorse, and anxiety. So in the morning, I come clean and tell him how I danced with someone but not in like a grinding way but how it is wrong and I’m extremely sorry and it will never happen again. I wrote him an apology letter and made him breakfast. He was kind of bothered and didn’t want to talk but forgave me. He is a very calm, kind, and forgiving person and never blows up or gets angry.
Fast forward 3 months, I come home from my friends house and left my phone in the car. He is asleep when I get home but I ask him if I can use his phone to call mine. He’s half asleep but agrees. When I open his phone it is open to a Snapchat filled with women. My heart sank and I immediately ask who are these people. He wakes up and is in shock. Before he can explain, I try to leave the room to get a better look. He follows me and tries to get his phone back so I go outside and try to lock myself in my car but he’s not letting me close my door and takes his phone back. It looks like he tries to delete stuff but he eventually gives up and I get the phone back. I see that he’s been messaging random people trying to get nudes. Most of them are like instagram thots or cam girls I guess you could say. With one person, he had longer conversations that went on for a while where they say stuff like “I’m thinking about you” and “can you call?”. There’s also her nudes and selfies and I know he sends some of his own pics. She seemed like she was a normal person, not a insta model. This was going on 2-3 months before my dancing incident so happend for about 5-6 months total. I wish he came clean when I did. He said it started as a porn addiction but led to sexting and calling.
At this point, I was heartbroken and go back to live at my parents house. I ask him a bunch of questions and he answers and is very apologetic but I’m expecting him to take initiative to repair this. I tell him I don’t know if I want to be together and we break up at this point. I go out with my friends about a week later(I’m 21 at this point), and at the end of the night I kiss someone. I immediately feel guilty and call my ex boyfriend and tell him about it. I told him it felt like I was cheating he says it’s not.
That summer I on and off talk to and see my ex but I also go on some dates (never had sex but did some other things). I was an emotional wreak. I decided dating wasn’t for me and get back with my boyfriend in the fall. I feel extremely guilty for seeing other people while keeping in contact with him. He didn’t interact with anyone else and took a healthier route to deal with the break up. I feel like I was being extremely selfish searching for validation but was hot and cold with him.
Fast forward to today, I’ve done a lot of reflecting and I feel like I was being too harsh. I feel like he could’ve broken up with me for what I did or just got a lot madder than he did. I regret so much. I wish I would’ve been kinder and worked it out then and there, rather than leave and explore other options. I let my ego get in the way and didn’t look at my own faults. We have been in a really good place and stronger than ever but I feel full of shame for how I acted before and after the breakup. He is such a kind and loving partner and I hate how I acted. I want to stay together but I don’t know how to forgive myself. I also don’t know if I was in the wrong or if I acted like a crazy person.

I am the Unicorn, the famed mythical creature. I try to live my life as magically as I can, but I miss company. :) And thus, here I am!
So what I am doing, when not spearing people with my mighty horn and playing in rainbows? I also cook (VERY well, I might add), bake, take care of plants, draw, love playing video games (WoW, Witcher, Baldurs Gate series, Skyrim, Age of Empires, Cyberpunk), tabletop RPGs (I even have a tattoo to prove it), watching series (the last two were Blue Eyed Samurai and X Men 97), loooove music, specially goth and metal (no, they are not the same), I am a left wing LGBTQIAP+ member and I have two dogs and a cat. Hey there, my name’s Tom and as my title suggests, I’m a 27 year old white guy from the U.K, I’m about 6’2 (so I’m good at reaching for things off high shelves when needed) and admittedly kinda chubby but it’s something I’m working on. I don’t mind sharing pics once we get talking and a connection has been established, but anonymity is something that’s quite important to me for the most part, also I do have kind of a baby-face just so you’re aware. I’m an INFJ if that means anything to you. I’ve got two dogs and will happily share pics of them. I will say I’m fully monogamous and lean more towards wanting kids at some point in life, but I’m in no rush to do so.
In terms of my personality, I’m quite honest but without being overly blunt or rude, I’m fiercely loyal, maybe even to the point where it becomes a negative. I’d say I’ve got a really good sense of humour which is mainly sarcastic, self-deprecating and can at times be incredibly dark but can throw the odd dad joke or shitty pun in when I think of a good one. I’m very emotionally aware and not afraid to share how I’m feeling, I’m also a hopeless romantic I’m looking for ‘the one’ and nothing less. I’d say my best trait is my ability to communicate, don’t get me wrong if I don’t really feel a spark it can feel like pulling teeth, but if there is a spark I’m the type of guy that can hold a conversation for hours and to be honest I can usually tell instantly who I will and won’t have a spark with.
I’m a PC gamer and have built my own machine as well as a few others. I’ve been playing a bit of Minecraft and messing around with a switch emulator over the last 2 weeks or so but do play other stuff as well. It’d be cool if you also enjoyed playing games and wanted to play co-op/multiplayer stuff.
My biggest passion though is without a doubt music. It’s something that’s always been a part of my life, and it’s something I don’t think I’d be the same without. My Spotify is my place of solace, it’s where I go when I’m feeling down, when I need to think about the future or reflect on the past. I’ve also started collecting CDs and vinyls this year and I’ve got a good idea of what I want to buy already. In terms of music genres I’m into I’d say mainly rock, rap and a bit of indie. Off the top of my head a few artists I really like are; Panic at the Disco, Post Malone, Juice Wrld, The 1975, Bring me the Horizon, Nirvana, A Day to Remember and Tame Impala, so if you’re into similar music I’ll have plenty of stuff to share with you.
One thing I’ve got quite into over the past few years is typology. So Astrology, MBTI and that sort of thing, it fascinates me how certain people think, process information and situations in general life. I won’t go into this too much because it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if something you’ve never looked into, and it interests you I’ll be happy to introduce you into it while we get to know each other.
I’m also quite into the paranormal, more-so aliens/extraterrestrials and unsolved mysteries, I could probably find some interest in true crime, but honestly I’ve never looked into any. Again, if you’re into that type of thing too, I could definitely recommend you a few documentaries on YouTube that are fascinating.
It’s probably also worth noting I do struggle with my mental health and I’ve also recently been diagnosed with high functioning autism, but I can go into that kinda stuff more if necessary
