2024.05.15 11:27 -naked-all-the-time- Overthinking everything - anxiety or OCD?
[TW]: insects, SH I woke up two days ago with two itchy bites on my ankle, and it's all been a whirlwind from there. I've pretty much convinced myself that I have bedbugs living in my bed, based on the following:
- The two bites I've described, plus some other skin irregularities/itchy patches (the latter may be imagined) I've noticed on my body.
- A blood patch I found on my bedsheets.
- Something I found on the floor, which I took to be a molted bed bug shell.
Now, from a rational perspective I know I'm overreacting completely. And here's why:
- After discovering the bites, I found a mosquito in my room. Though the bites don't look like other mosquito bites I get and were somewhere that I assumed was covered by bedding while I slept. But it's still probably the mosquito, and if not, I did sit the night before in my friend's car, who recently got a dog. It's possible they could be flea bites.
- The blood patch looked fairly old, and by Googling it seems bed bug blood patches would be smaller and darker. It's also possible either my girlfriend or I had a spot/pimple that bled in our sleep - we both have some on our back.
- That "shell" I found was the same colour as a bed bug, but apparently their molted shells are translucent, and this one lacked any "bug parts" (antennae, legs) and had a different texture than I would expect. Could just as easily have been a seed from a bread loaf.
Nevertheless here I am tearing up my mind about bedbugs, scrutinising my mattress constantly, and washing my clothes and sheets at 60° even though I usually do 40° because it's gentler. The
bedbugs subreddit does not help because everyone over there seems as anxious as me, and every "is this a bed bug/shell/egg" post gets a few yes responses despite a real diversity in the pictures posted. The thing with bed bugs is they're practically unfalsifiable: they're good at hiding, so you don't see them, their bites vary from person to person, and they can go for long periods without feeding.
Like I said, I likely
don't have bedbugs. The fear stems from a budget hotel my friend booked us in to two weeks ago, which wasn't the cleanest. But I did check the mattresses there, and they seemed to pass the test. My friend actually moved on to a second hotel after I went home that did have bed bugs, and he said it was immediately noticeable. I visited India last year, and when my friend jokingly talked about bringing bedbugs home on the return flight (we didn't encounter any) the thought played on my mind for a couple weeks, but this time is more intense.
The only reprieve I get from worrying about them is when I'm distracted, like at work. I did a pretty intense yoga session yesterday and didn't think about it once, but as soon as we brought the session to a close with a meditation, they were back all over my mind.
I also know that, worse case scenario, if I did have them, I'd have to call an exterminator and be out €2000, which would be utterly shit but wouldn't kill me. It's not like the bugs can kill me or even hurt me either. I thought about calling an inspector, but I don't want to spend all that money (and probably anger my landlord) just for reassurance.
I've always been an overthinker and have struggled with anxiety throughout my life. In the past year or two, though, I've noticed some more intrusive thoughts:
- My ex and I had a place last year and she had a cat. One day when I was leaving for work I didn't pull the door all the way closed. My ex noticed and chewed me out (another story) because it was an indoor cat. But for months afterwards this led me to coming back to the house after leaving for work (sometimes already after walking 10 minutes), coming home early, or staying home completely. At this time I also had a depressive period and my work suffered for a few months as a result.
- After my breakup when I moved into my new place, I put a hanging plant attachment into the roof and couldn't shake the feeling I'd hit a gas line, even after my Dad (a tradesman) told me they were unlikely to be in that part of the ceiling. I left on a work trip abroad the same day and for the first day away all I thought about was returning to a blown-up apartment. I had a similar feeling when my fridge gas pipe ruptured - I thought I was gonna die in my sleep and ventilated my flat for days.
- I'm terrified of fire, always have been, but lately I've been unplugging things every time I leave my office because I'm afraid I'll burn the whole place down. I recently quit smoking with the help of an e-cigarette, but for the first week or two I had it I was often terrified it would explode in my pocket.
- I had an unexplainable pain in my nether regions for a few months that took A LONG TIME to diagnose (turned out to be a muscle problem). But I was constantly anxious about testicular torsion and I wondered why doctors/urologists didn't care. At one point I remember telling myself "I think you want testicular torsion just so you know you're right."
- When I leave my house I check my balcony door is locked and that the stove is turned off, usually only once, maybe twice. Regarding unplugging things in work, I've once sent my colleague to check something in my office after I left, under false pretenses, in the hope that if something bad had happened (a fire) they would notice and catch it in time.
- I have - very, very rarely, probably less than 5 times in my life - been consumed momentarily by thoughts of self-harm. Mostly it's fleeting like the intrusive thought I guess everyone gets occasionally, just pushing your brain to consider the worst. However, twice - once after trying SSRIs for my depressive episode and again at random more recently - I had thoughts of slitting my wrists that scared the fuck out of me and sat with me for a good few hours.
I've been in therapy before for anxiety but stopped for a while because my therapist's son got really sick and stopped all sessions. When I look at all this, written out, I'm honestly starting to convince myself that the more likely thing going on here is that I have undiagnosed mild OCD.
However, these thoughts don't normally take over my whole day - I can usually get away from them if I'm distracted, and most of the time they don't bother me unrelentingly, just mildly. Also, besides the unplugging of electronics and checking of locks - which I do not do universally - I don't really think I have any compulsions. These are things I would expect if I had diagnosable OCD, though I don't know much about the condition or the spectrum it exists within.
What are your thoughts? Does it sound like anxiety or OCD experience? I'm planning to go back to therapy next month if I can (it's hard to get appointments where I live, especially in my native language), but do you have any tips for dealing with such thoughts by myself too?
Many thanks for taking the time to read.

2024.05.15 05:30 delibirdguy Top 500 Songs Ever (Subjective)
Over the course of the past few months I have been working on compiling a list of my 500 favorite songs. It was sort of challenge that I gave myself and I'm super pumped with how it turned out. There were a few rules (only 5 songs per artist being the big rule, among a few others), and here's the list I came up with. Thought it was fun, so wanted to share here and see if it might spark any discussion about song placement, lack of songs/artists, or see if anyone had any similar lists. All thoughts are welcome! 2024.05.15 04:25 monashchad Smoking neighbors in a smoke-free apartment
[Edit: we live in metro Atlanta, GA]
Our family, which includes a toddler less than a year old, live in an apartment complex that has a smoke-free policy. This is in the contracts and residents that violate this policy are to be evicted.
Now, recently I've noticed very strong cigarette smell pervading our unit, and I think I know who is the culprit. I tried letting the apartment management team know, but they've not been getting back to me for over a week.
If the management team continues to ignore my concern, or takes a weak action (e.g., just sends a reminder around, rather than actively investigating the issue), what are my options? Should I just keep requesting that they take a firm action, or should I talk to the neighbors directly?
I really don't want to be confrontational or cause a trouble, out of the concern for the safety of my little one. But neither do I just want to suck it up and carry on with life, as second hand smoking poses serious health risks.
Can somebody please help..? Does anyone have any advice from their experience, whether it be just a moral support or legal wisdom?
Thank you.

2024.05.14 10:45 Wagamaga Study reveals soaring rates of adolescent daily e-cigarette use. Compared to nonusers, adolescents and young adults who use EVPs are more likely to switch to cigarette smoking, which, despite declines in the U.S., remains the leading avoidable cause of premature death in the U.S. and worldwide
2024.05.14 06:41 IDIOT_9978 Does Vaping really helps you quit smoking cigarettes?
Hey Bruhs! I want to quit my smoking habits but I can't seem to find any way to do it although I do smoke less then before but still can't quit it. I used to smoke 8 -10 cigarettes a day but now I am at 3 a day but still can't quit it.
A friend of who is ex-smoker told me that I should use E-cigrette to quit smoke but also he didn't use any, So any suggestions 😕.

2024.05.13 23:07 smirse Do electronic cigarettes really help you quit smoking?
By hearing contradictory speeches, we no longer understand anything. So, are e-cigarettes really an effective aid for quitting smoking? Yes or no, is vaping better for your health than smoking? Answers from a tobacco specialist and an epidemiologist.
In 2022, 7.3% of 18-75 year olds reportedvaping, including 5.5% daily, according to the latest figures from Santé Publique France (source 1). In just a few years, smokers have adopted e-cigarettes as another means ofquitting smoking. However, in a July 2019 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) criticizedelectronic cigarettesfor being “unquestionably harmful”. So, what should we think about it?

2024.05.13 14:23 OptimalTravel8938 HOW TO VAPE: Best guide for beginners
| https://preview.redd.it/z9ehn4tis60d1.png?width=946&format=png&auto=webp&s=e330241c585f10dba6773891fd2c5d807b0c19f8 Vaping has become a popular alternative to smoking, with many people choosing it for various reasons including as a method to quit smoking. Here's a comprehensive guide for beginners interested in vaping, covering the basics, types of devices, flavors, and some general advice on pricing, specifically with a nod to the market in Pakistan. 1. Understanding Vaping - Vaping involves inhaling a vapor created by an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) or other vaping device. These devices heat a liquid to generate an aerosol, commonly called vapor, that the user inhales.
- E-liquids or vape Flavours is the fluid used in vapor products to create the actual vapor. It can contain nicotine, Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), flavorings, and water.
2. Types of Vaping Devices - Cig-A-Likes (First Generation): Look like traditional cigarettes and are very simple to use, making them a good starting point for beginners.
- Vape Pens (Second Generation): Slightly larger than cig-a-likes, offering better battery life and the ability to change flavors more easily.
- Mods (Third Generation): Offer the most powerful experience with customizable settings, but can be complex for beginners.
- Pod Systems: Compact and easy-to-use devices that use a pod instead of a traditional tank. Suitable for beginners due to their simplicity and convenience.
3. Choosing Your Vape Juice - Flavors: There's a wide variety of flavors available, from traditional tobacco and menthol to fruit, dessert, and beverage flavors.
- Nicotine Strength: E-liquids come in various nicotine strengths. If you're trying to quit smoking, you might start with a higher nicotine content and gradually reduce the strength.
- PG vs. VG: PG provides more flavor but less vapor, while VG is more viscous and produces more vapor but might carry less flavor. A mix of both provides a balanced experience.
4. Disposable Vapes - Convenience: Disposable vapes are pre-filled devices that can be thrown away after use. They're incredibly convenient but can be more expensive in the long run.
- Flavors and Nicotine: They come in many flavors and nicotine strengths, making them a good option for trying different options without commitment.
5. Vape Price in Pakistan - Pricing can vary widely depending on the device type, brand, and where you purchase it. In Pakistan, you can expect the following approximate ranges:
- Cig-A-Likes and Vape Pens: PKR 1,000 - 5,000
- Mods: PKR 5,000 - 15,000+
- Pod Systems: PKR 2,500 - 7,000
- Disposable Vapes: PKR 500 - 2,000 per device
- Prices for e-liquids or vape juices also vary, but you can expect to spend around PKR 500 - 1,500 for a 30ml bottle, depending on the brand and flavor.
6. Tips for Beginners - Start Simple: Begin with a straightforward device like a pod vape or cig-a-like to get used to the experience.
- Safety First: Purchase your vaping equipment from reputable sources to avoid counterfeit products.
- Hydration: Vaping can cause dehydration, so drink plenty of water.
- Maintenance: Regularly clean your device to ensure the best performance and flavor.
7. Legal and Health Considerations - Be aware of the legal age for vaping in your area and any regulations regarding vape use.
- Vaping, while considered less harmful than smoking cigarettes, still carries health risks, particularly concerning nicotine addiction.
Remember, if you're vaping as a way to quit smoking, it's advisable to have a plan to reduce your nicotine intake gradually. Vaping should be seen as a step towards quitting nicotine use entirely, not a permanent substitute. Always consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice, especially if you have underlying health conditions. submitted by OptimalTravel8938 to vapegalaxy [link] [comments] |
2024.05.13 14:10 weyakuter I'm an intern, my coworker Smoking.
Hey everyone, I'm currently interning in the IT department of a company, and I've been facing a bit of a dilemma. The workspace we're in is quite small, fitting only five desks and cannot put the 6th, and unfortunately, it seems like everyone in the room is a smoker (vape/pod/e-cigarette). The problem is, I'm not a smoker, and the secondhand smoke is really starting to affect me, yes they are smoking in the room and not outside. I even piss off just thinking about it at home. It's been 2 months. I've tried addressing the issue with my supervisor twice now, explaining that I can't tolerate the secondhand smoke, but unfortunately, nothing much has changed, and he smoke it the day after. It's gotten to the point where one of them, who knows I dislike the smoke, still continues to smoke as usual. And they still smoke often like a muscle memory. I'm feeling stuck because I don't want to come across as overly dramatic or cause any tension in the workplace, especially since this is my first internship experience. But at the same time, I'm genuinely concerned about my health, especially with four more months left in the internship. Can I have an advice on what to do? The supervisor said there's no other room for me to move to. I'm planning to change intern workplace, is that even possible as this is workplace problems. Thank you.
TL;DR: I'm interning in a small IT department where everyone smokes indoors, including my supervisor, and I'm concerning my health. I've raised the issue twice within the room, but no significant change. Feeling stuck and considering changing internships. Any advice?

2024.05.13 01:13 latebutstillearly1 Boarding School
My parents were strict growing up. In particular, my sister and I had a tightly enforced curfew - no going out after 6PM. As a homebody who preferred to read in my room, I didn't mind much.
My older sister Jasmine hated it. She misbehaved frequently, stayed out late and made friends our parents didn't approve of. Dad would lock her in the house when she came back from school, and she would throw ear splitting tantrums that gave everyone headaches. The more they tried to control her, the more she rebelled, until she became an absolute menace. We fought a lot too - she spat in my food at the dinner table, and I pulled her hair in return. My parents would scream at her to stop and stand in the corner for an hour as punishment. They threatened that if her behavior continued, they would send her away to a boarding school for difficult children, where the punishments wouldn't be as kind.
The final straw came when I was ten and Jasmine was fourteen. Mom found a pack of cigarettes in Jasmine's room. She came to us at the dinner table.
"Jasmine," she said calmly, holding up the pack. "What is this?"
I saw the color drain from Jasmine's face. She'd gotten them from an older boy at school. Her expression cycled through fear, dread, denial then rage in a few seconds. A violent argument broke out.
"Fuck you!" She screamed, "They're mine and you bet I'm gonna smoke them! You can't fucking tell me what to do!"
My parents decided it was time to play their final card. It was boarding school, or getting disowned and put up for adoption. They had enough, and as she was becoming older, taller and more violent, they were starting to become concerned for the family's safety. She had little choice, and a month later, dad took her on a flight to the boarding school. I don't remember many details about it from listening to their conversations. I just picked up the fact that it was in a hilly area in a far away state, and they took discipline seriously there. No technology, makeup or drugs were allowed, there was a strict daily schedule beginning at 5AM and ending at 9AM sharp, and those who broke the rules were served their just desserts.
"See ya in fifty years," I taunted, "enjoy being a nun."
She stuck her tongue out at me and flipped me the middle finger. She disappeared, and the front door slammed shut.
The home was much quieter thereafter. I liked it at first. No more fighting over stuff and screaming around the house. But over time, it got lonely, especially on the evenings and weekends. I now felt like an only child.
Despite our differences, Jas and I did have a few good laughs over dumb Youtube videos on the odd occasion. Three months had passed since she had left, but the entire time I never heard my parents call Jas or the school for updates. I asked about Jas a couple times after a few months.
"Is she coming back?" I asked.
"Of course, dear. She's there for a year, so she'll be back when the school year ends," she replied.
The year droned on, and half a year passed in a blink. I started taking violin lessons, and my parents even extended the curfew to let me attend late night school events. It helped me make some more friends, and the extension allowed me to stay at their houses, as long as my parents approved of them. Being accustomed to restrictions for my whole life, those allowances were a breath of fresh air. Still, I was alone in my room most of the time, and the house felt empty.
I came home from school one day and both my parents were still at work. As I went to my room and set my things down, I heard the home phone ringing from downstairs.
Taking off my coat as I walked down the stairs, I went to answer it.
"Hello?"
"HELP ME! HELP!" A shrill voice shrieked from the other end. All the hairs on the back of my neck stood up instantly as soon as I heard it, and my heart rate began to accelerate. I held the phone a little further from my ear.
"Jas?" I asked.
"Harry," she sobbed, a terrified urgency in her voice, "I need help, please. Where's mom and dad?"
"They're at work," I replied.
"Harry, I'm sorry." Her voice became quieter. "I'm sorry I spat in your vegetables. I'm sorry I called you a dumbass. Tell mom and dad I'm sorry I gave them hell. They didn't deserve all of that. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you guys, I swear."
"I know, Jas," I said, concerned, "but what's going on?"
"Oh my God, they're coming," she whimpered, "they're gonna get me, I can't run anymore. Fuck…"
I heard a loud smash and commotion on the other side, and screaming erupted from the other end of the line. Ear piercing screams that could've shattered glass. They became more intense but quieter, as if she was being dragged away from the receiver.
"No, NO! PLEASE DON'T! HELP!"
The line hung up.
Shaking, I called mom and dad immediately. When they came home, I explained what happened and thought Jas was in serious danger. Mom hurriedly called the school, and the woman on the other end explained that Jas had a tantrum earlier, but was otherwise fine and didn't want to speak to her. She took that as sufficient, and hung up. I pressed her a little, but that pissed her off.
"It's just one of her tantrums, and she's being dealt with. She's getting the help she needs. I don't want to hear you mention it again, Harry."
I never recalled Jas apologizing during a tantrum. Before then, she had never apologized once in her life. It was very out of character. I knew something wasn't right, but I couldn't do anything about it. I tried calling the unknown number back from the home phone a couple of times when my parents weren't at home, but to no avail. Three months passed. Some nights I would wake up drenched in sweat, screams ringing in my ears.
The end of the school year came, and I thought it was time for Jasmine to return home. I asked dad about her.
"They've said she's making really good progress, so she's going to stay for a few more years," he beamed.
"How do you know she's even alive?" I asked.
"What kind of question is that?" He laughed. "She spoke to us herself, sounded like she'd grown up a lot over the past year."
She didn't come back home.
Over time, I grew accustomed to being alone. Mom and dad never talked about Jas again. They acted as if she never existed, and for some reason, I never dared to ask. Perhaps I would've forgotten I ever had a sister, if it weren't for the periodic nightmares of that phone call which returned to haunt me every few weeks. When I turned eighteen, I moved out and went to college. As soon as I left home, the nightmares returned with a vengeance, revisiting almost every night.
Back when I was ten, after mom had called the boarding school following the horrific phone call, she left her phone on the kitchen table and I saw the number. I didn't note it down, but it was one of those that was easy to remember. I specifically remember thinking it was odd that a number had such a long string of fives.
One night in my dorm, I tried to recall the number, typing several possible combinations into my phone keypad and tapping the call button. After a few invalid attempts, I was surprised to finally get through to someone.
"Hello, this is the boarding school reception," A voice came from the other end. Bingo.
"Hi there, I'd like to ask about a student who once attended your school, her name is Jasmine Collins."
There was a pause.
"What is your relation to this student?"
"I'm her brother. She attended the school about eight or nine years ago, and I haven't seen her since. Just wanted to know if you knew where she graduated to."
"I'll search the records."
"Thank you," I said. After a few minutes, she piped up again.
"Apologies, there are no records matching this name."
"Are you sure?" I frowned, "It's J-a-s-m-i-n-e C-o-l-l-i-n-s." I spelt it out.
"Nope, nothing in our system."
Silence. I grew frustrated.
"Listen," I growled quietly, "I know something happened to my sister while she was at your school. If you don't tell me exactly where she is right now, I'm going to involve the police."
"Sir, we do not appreciate unfounded accusations or threats. if you like, I can do a second search, but if nothing comes up there isn't much I can help with," she said.
"J-a-s-m-i-n-e C-o-l-l-i-n-s," I repeated, "do it."
Two minutes passed.
"My sincerest apologies," said the woman on the other end, "I indeed misspelt the name. Miss Collins was a student here until she turned eighteen. She was discharged thereafter. Would you like the address?"
A wave of relief ran through me, and my racing pulse began to ease.
"Yes please, thank you."
She gave me an address in Pennsylvania. The following Friday evening, I took a flight over and made my way to the location. It was a wide two-storey building in the middle of a well kept garden. Colorful, well trimmed rose bushes and plots of tulips lined the perimeter. There was a small fountain on the path that led up to the main entrance of the building. I expected it to be a house or block of apartments, and double-checked that the address was correct, which it was.
I walked into a reception area. Glass panels surrounded by wooden frames made up one of the walls, with a door leading to a corridor. A blonde lady was sitting at a desk, and some elderly people were talking in the corridor. There was a colorful poster on the wall.
'Celebrating our care home's 40th anniversary. Come join us for cake!'
Care home? I thought to myself, confused.
"Hi there," said the woman at the desk, in a cheery tone.
"Hello, I'm looking for my sister, someone told me she would be here."
"Name?" She asked.
"Jasmine Collins?"
She typed it, and clicked.
"Take a seat, I won't be two seconds."
She descended down the corridor, and returned a few moments later, pushing a wheelchair with someone on it. My eyes widened as she came closer.
The woman in the wheelchair had big bulging eyes, with pupils that pointed away from each other absently, and a crooked neck slanting uncomfortably to the right. Her arms and legs rested limp, feet bent in an uncomfortable position. Her thin, brittle brown hair hung from her scalp, which housed specks of dandruff. Her limbs were stick thin, but her midsection bulged slightly. She sat almost motionless as she was pushed towards me, apart from her chest, which rose as she gasped in breaths of air. A drip of saliva ran down from the side of her open mouth. She wore a pink shirt that said 'Mondays' and a blue flowery dress. There was a cannula and dressing on her left arm, and a yellow feeding tube came out of her right nostril, taped to the side of her face.
The blonde lady brought her in front of me, then flipped the brake on the wheelchair. She crouched down next to it, and stroked the woman's sparse strands of hair.
"Say hello, Jasmine," she said softly.
The woman in the wheelchair let out a long groan. I stared in disbelief, horrified.
"What happened to her?" I choked.
"She was admitted to us a few years ago, before I started working here," explained the blonde lady. "I heard she contracted bacterial meningitis at another residence, and got brain damage as a result."
"No," I said, shaking my head, my voice trembling.
"This isn't right," I continued, "something very bad has happened to her. How did she get here? Can you check the records?"
"Well, before I started working here, this place had paper records. Some of them got lost, hers was one of them, but what the staff at the time could remember was transcribed onto the new electronic system."
She reached over the desk and flipped the computer monitor around.
"Her notes here just say she was admitted at age eighteen having suffered brain damage after contracting meningitis as a teenager, and presented as quadriplegic with greatly reduced cognition and speech. She had a medical exam on admission, which confirmed this. No suspicious circumstances were reported."
"Where was she brought here from?" I asked in a panic, trying to read the text on the screen. "And by who?" The lady looked at the screen and scrolled down.
"Doesn't say," she said.
"Is that all you can find? Everything?"
She nodded. I stared for what seemed like hours, and finally broke out of my trance.
"Thank you," I croaked, rattled.
I took the handles of the wheelchair and unlocked the brake, wheeling it and the woman outside into the garden area, down the path leading to the front doors and past the fountain. I eventually stopped beside a far away bench. I sat down, still light headed.
It was a bright, sunny day. Children walked hand in hand with their elderly and disabled relatives along the green grass, admiring the roses. Some families were having picnics in the distance. A cool breeze swept by, the sound of water flowing like white noise in the background.
I looked in the woman's eyes, trying to find my sister locked inside. Her gaze shifted to meet mine. I could see in her eyes that she desperately wanted to tell me something.
"What did they do to you?" I whispered. She just stared at me, unblinking. A single tear ran down her left cheek.
When I returned to my dorm, I was angry. I wanted answers, and picked up the phone to dial mom and dad's house and ask them what they had done. Perhaps I should even call the police first, I thought, pacing up and down my room for hours, thinking about who to call and what I would say. Then I sat down on my bed, as a realization came over me.
Mom and dad had been good to me. Mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer just before I left for college, and seemed to be fighting a losing battle. Dad had lost my grandparents on his side, and was also slowly losing his eyesight. Their marriage wasn't doing too well, but they had somehow stuck it through for the family. Did I really want to do this to them now? I thought back to when I had asked dad if Jas was coming home.
"She spoke to us herself…"
I pondered what I should do next for days upon days, and I came to the conclusion of… nothing.
Call me a bad person, call me a coward, call me selfish. Believe me, I badly wanted answers to what the hell happened in that boarding school.
I just didn't want to lose anyone else.
I went to PA to visit Jas every college break, pushing her in her wheelchair down the pathways in the park surrounding the care home. Eventually, I graduated and my fiancée and got our own place. After we had settled in somewhat, we brought Jas back from the care home to live with us. I knew it we were taking on a big commitment, especially as we were planning to have a family in the near future, but somehow I felt like I owed it. My fiancée Marielle is an absolute star. She was an accountant who mostly worked from home and was happy to accommodate, which is more than most would do for a partner. Marielle even helped prepare Jas' nutrition at home, which we fed her through the NG tube, and other aspects of her care.
I came home from work one day.
"Welcome back babe," chirped Marielle. I kissed her and hung my coat up behind the door.
"How was your day?" I asked.
"Decent, same old. Did some work in the morning," she replied, "in the afternoon, I took Jas out on a walk along the river. I think… she tried to say something."
"Jas tried to speak?" I asked, intrigued.
"I think so. I listened closely, and she kept repeating something. It sounded like…" Marielle did an impression.
"Harry? Was she trying to say my name?"
She pondered for a second.
"No, I think it sounded more like, 'sorry'."

2024.05.13 00:57 aromaofnecropsy [FNV] Texture Mods and Pip-Boy just randomly stopped working mid-game.
As the post says, I deleted like one mod from my load order to fix my companion limit and all of a sudden my NMC pack and my Pip-Boy 2500A mods stopped working entirely. So did a couple of mods like Afterglow, yet most of them remained like my weapon mods and certain visual ones like EVE. I already reactivated and deactivated the Archive Invalidator, so what do I do now? 2024.05.12 23:23 skeptical_phoenix EBAY COUNTERFEIT ALERT: lady_80s currently selling counterfeit Trap and tan Inky (that reek of cigarette smoke) and making fake True Blue Beans COAs
| Good afternoon, y'all. A bit of a wild ride to follow, but the bottom line is - do NOT buy either of these Beanies listed on eBay by the user lady_80s Please report both of these listings on eBay by selecting "Report this item", then "Copyright and trademark", then "Counterfeit item or authenticity disclaimer", then "counterfeit, fake, or replica items" Counterfeit Trap listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235561168939?itmmeta=01HXQ91WR5EYS9E5DH4JCQ6DYA&hash=item36d88a302b:g:pcoAAOSw7hJmQP1H Counterfeit Inky listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235409792590?itmmeta=01HXQ91WR5HFVCRJSAWE6FGEJA&hash=item36cf845e4e:g:HRgAAOSwgJ5luUCa So, a few days ago, I saw the original Trap listing in which the seller was selling the Trap authenticated by " Pbbags.com" - an authentication service that shut down over a decade ago. Here is that original eBay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235539104928 The Trap looked authentic, but the whiskers were very long and I couldn't see the top of the tush tag because it was curled over (the tush tag is what shows you for certain whether an older generation Beanie is counterfeit). Because of these things, I offered the seller $90 instead of the $125 she was asking. She said she understood my concerns and that $100 was the best she could do. I told her the only authentication company I fully trust is True Blue Beans. 12 minutes after that message, she replied and stated: "Because he was authenticated so long ago and because that service has been questioned I did have him authenticated by TBB and have a coa. I have delt with Becky and the staff for many years. She didn’t charge me for authentication because I asked her not to rebox him if all was legit. I will include the coa along with him. The certificate number is the same on the coa as the number on the one on the box." With that, she sent me a picture of this "True Blue Beans COA" (which I later found out was fraudulent): Fraudulent True Blue Beans Certificate of Authenticity Unfortunately, I just took her word that this was a legit certificate of authenticity from True Blue Beans when I should have realized this is not something TBB would ever do. Anyway, I purchased the Trap and it arrived a few days later. Immediately upon opening the package it reeked BADLY of cigarette smoke. I then opened the case the Trap was in to examine the tush tag since it was still curled up in the case. Lo and behold, the tush tag revealed that the Trap is counterfeit. Also, comparing the Beanie itself to an authentic Trap I already own, it's clear the color of the fabric is wrong (it's a warm gray instead of a cool gray) and the string of the whiskers is a completely different kind of string than on the authentic Trap. Other than that, it was a VERY good counterfeit. If you look closely, you can see the differences between the counterfeit Trap and the authentic Trap in these photos. The authentic trap is on the right, and the counterfeit is on the left. The authentic tush tag is the one that has a period and a comma after TY INC and the counterfeit tush tag as two periods after TY INC Counterfeit on left, Authentic on right Authentic Trap tush tag. Note the period and comma after INC and the A in \"CHINA\" extending past the D in \"RESERVED Counterfeit Trap tush tag. Note the two periods after \"INC\", the D in \"RESERVED\" extending way past the A in \"CHINA\", the lack of a base line on the 1 in \"1993\", and other differences After examining the Beanie itself, I moved on to examining the "True Blue Beans COA" the seller included in the box. It was DIFFERENT than the one she showed me in the image above. Paper certificate sent to me in the box with the counterfeit Trap (note it doesn't even match the one she sent me as a digital photo) The paper certificate was a blurry page that was printed from someone's home computer on cheap paper and almost the size of a full sheet of paper. In person, it was clear that the seller used a program like Microsoft Paint to cover up whatever was originally on the certificate she based this fake one one. Look closely at the certificate and you will see many issues. First and foremost, the date on the certificate says "8/21/24" ... which, if you haven't noticed, is over three months from now... so it's impossible to have been authenticated on that date. Furthermore, the style number she has on the certificate is not Trap's style number. It is the style number for orange Digger the crab. Further still, the certificate number is just the number that was present on the other COA from the other authentication company. True Blue Beans would never use another company's authentication number on their certificates. Needless to say, after I figured all of this out I was livid. I contacted the seller for a refund, and she played nice, stating: "I apologize for the inconsistencies of the Trap coa. I never even noticed the date error. By all means, please start a return so you can be refunded. As far as the Inky, I’ve never had it authenticated so it can very well be counterfeit. Thanks for letting me know. Again, I’m very sorry." After I opened the return, she changed her mind and messaged: "Then again, you shouldn’t have opened the box. That ruined the authenticity. I could’ve had the coa issue taken care of. Now I would have to pay for it to be authenticated. I will contact eBay." After I told her I would contact True Blue Beans myself to see if the certificate of authenticity is legit, she approved the return without saying anything else. I sent the item back to her, but when she received it back she contested my return with eBay because I had taken the Beanie out of the original case (which I had to to find out it was counterfeit). Unfortunately, eBay contacted me today saying out of "courtesy" they are refunding me my money but that in the future I have to return items in the condition they were sent. Even worse, they let her keep the item AND the money I paid... and she immediately listed it for sale again... meaning she will get over $200 for this fake in total if someone else buys it from her new listing. I've reported her listings to eBay for being counterfeits, but eBay has told me they've "found nothing wrong". Maybe if enough people report these listings they will wake up and take them down. Bottom line: DO NOT buy from this seller and DO NOT trust any authentication company other than True Blue Beans! submitted by skeptical_phoenix to beaniebabies [link] [comments] |
2024.05.12 20:30 cartmansmama AITA for yelling at my grandmother and calling her a spoiled brat even though she has the early stages of dementia?
Sorry for the long post. My (35f) grandmother (85f) started showing early stages of dementia several years ago. She was deemed a fall risk and, after a ton of battles with my family, she was finally put in an independent living facility. My younger golden child cousin (34m) and I are the only ones in our state here with her while my dad and uncle are living in other states. (Mind you, he and I have NEVER gotten along) A little backstory: GM and I have been close but had a bit of a back and forth relationship. I am the oldest grandchild and my family instilled this ideal in me that the oldest takes care of everything (i.e. my dad being the oldest son). When I was younger, my weight fluctuated a lot due to hormonal issues (undiagnosed until 30 when I learned I had PCOS) and having a stressful home life. She knew my home life was difficult and still would tell me that I needed to lose weight, drop a few pounds, boys like skinny girls, etc etc In addition to this, she was a gossip hound. She loved to talk trash about people to make herself feel superior even to the point where she made my uncles former significant other cry. Despite this, and my difficulty letting people go due to dealing with my fair share of tragic loss, I still would visit her, take her out, rush to see her if she was hospitalized, pick up her cigarettes and drive out on road trips when I wasn't exhausted from work and had the extra cash. My cousin hasn't done a damn thing to help. Since my dad lives in a different state, we would drive and meet at a halfway point to pass her off so she could get away for a little while. The drive was about 2 1/2 hours one way for me, 3 or so hours for dad. (She didnt fly because she gets lost and an airport would be overwhelming) I like to drive so it was fine with me. We did this many times over the years and though the drives were typically fine, there were times where she would get salty because she didn't want to go home. My dad, bless his heart, spoils her. Everything she wants, she gets and when she whines, he gives her something to make her happy. Now I'm not clocking people who like to spoil family, I too like to spoil my friends but there's a limit. Like if my step-mom makes a delicious meal and worked hard on it, GM whines that she wants Chinese food and complains until dad gives in and gets it for her. When I push back, dad gets me with "she's old and doesn't remember, we can't hold that against her, she's your grandmother" the pressure to care for her when I wasn't financially (single income) or mentally able to (looooooong story) was pretty heavy. Anyway, this last weekend was the last straw. I am very busy with my job and I'm constantly exhausted from work, depression and the hobbies I have to cope with it. Still, I arranged with my dad to "pass off GM", no biggie. My roommate, who is the best friend ever, was gonna come with to keep me company on the drive back. We usually drive up in the morning, have breakfast at this amazing place and part ways. So it's early, I'm tired from work and not a morning person, but stopped to pick up coffee for all of us and went to the home to get GM. GM says she doesn't want to go claiming she doesn't feel well. I check her temp, breathing and give her a once over and everything appears fine, so i ask what doesn't feel good. GM: I just don't feel well Me: is it your tummy? Congestion? GM: yeah im congested Me: knowing our allergy season has been worse this year we can get you some meds and dad will get you to a good dr GM: OP just let it go
Now, when GM has been sick, she's usually a lot more clearer with her symptoms (usually detailed and exaggerated for pity) and after watching her for years, I can tell when she's actually sick. This was NOT the case, she just didn't want to leave (despite her pestering us for weeks to get out) I call my dad and he had already been on the road for 3 hours so he was trying to convince her to go. She starts getting nasty and telling my dad to shut up. Then she started getting nasty with me. This is where I lost it. All the years of frustration and abuse finally poured out. Me: are you really not feeling well? Or do you just not want to go? GM: I don't want to go! Me: you're being really mean and it's not fair. you're obviously well enough to get up and walk around to have a smoke and get coffee and sign yourself out for the weekend GM: just let it go OP Me: we got up early to drive you, dad is already most of the way there, this is insane! You always do this! GM: Bull@%# Me: you're a selfish spoiled brat! GM: I don't know who you think you are! Me: who I am?! I am the grandchild who comes to check on you,, im the grandchild who has left work early numerous times to meet you at the hospital only to find out there's nothing wrong! I get you smokes, I drive hours to take you on vacations and never ask for anything in return! Where are the rest of your damn grandkids? Huh? NOT HERE!"
This is when she grabs her walker and just walks away. Her last comment was "I've always been good to you..."
No, no she hasn't. So I'm done. I'm done being her errand boy, her punching bag and her scapegoat. The worst part is that she tells her friends that I'm her favorite. But we all know it's because I'm the only one who actually gives a damn besides my dad... So, AITA?

Examining the Health Impacts of Nicotine Vaping versus Traditional Cigarette Smoking
Introduction:
The rise of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) or vaping devices as alternatives to traditional cigarettes has sparked discussions about their comparative health risks. Advocates argue that vaping nicotine is a safer option than smoking cigarettes. This paper delves into the comparative health risks, potential benefits, and emerging concerns related to nicotine vaping and traditional cigarette smoking, including the issue of lung inflammation from excessive vaping.
- Nicotine Delivery Mechanisms:
Both vaping devices and cigarettes deliver nicotine, the addictive substance in tobacco. Traditional cigarettes burn tobacco, generating smoke laden with thousands of harmful chemicals. In contrast, e-cigarettes heat a liquid (e-liquid or vape juice) to create an aerosol, minimizing exposure to carcinogens produced by combustion.
- Chemical Composition and Health Impact:
Cigarette smoke contains tar, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, and other toxins responsible for lung diseases, cardiovascular issues, and cancer. Vape liquids typically contain fewer harmful chemicals, but long-term effects remain under study. Overvaping, or excessive use of vaping devices, can lead to lung inflammation and respiratory symptoms, highlighting the importance of moderation in vaping habits.
- Respiratory and Cardiovascular Health:
Smoking significantly increases the risk of respiratory conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer due to smoke-induced lung damage. Vaping, while potentially less harmful to the lungs, may still pose cardiovascular risks, especially for individuals with preexisting conditions. Studies on the long-term cardiovascular impact of vaping are ongoing.
- Youth Initiation and Addiction:
The appeal of flavored vape products and marketing tactics has drawn youth to vaping, raising concerns about nicotine addiction and long-term health consequences. Efforts to curb youth initiation, such as flavor bans and stricter regulations, are crucial to prevent a new generation from becoming addicted to nicotine.
- Potential Benefits and Risks of Nicotine:
Nicotine, while addictive, has potential benefits such as cognitive enhancement, mood regulation, and pain relief. However, these benefits must be balanced against its addictive nature and the risks associated with tobacco use disorders, emphasizing the need for responsible consumption and informed decision-making.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, while vaping nicotine appears to present fewer immediate health risks than smoking traditional cigarettes, it is not without concerns. Lung inflammation from overvaping underscores the importance of using vaping devices responsibly and avoiding excessive nicotine exposure. Regulatory measures should focus on harm reduction, youth prevention, and public education to promote informed choices regarding nicotine consumption. Continued research into the long-term effects of vaping and nicotine use is essential to guide evidence-based policies and interventions that prioritize public health. Ultimately, individuals should consider the complete picture of risks and benefits when making decisions about nicotine use, emphasizing moderation and informed health choices
