Gamers Break Away [GBA]

2024.05.16 20:30 Wild_Cellist9861 Gamers Break Away [GBA]

My fellow gamers, for too long has our community suffered the indignation of an intolerable culture that has denigrated, besmirched, exploited, and has outright demonized our culture of unique individuals with a genuine love of a hobby that they see as profitable and progressive. They have taken beloved IP’s (Intellectual Properties) and twisted them into their own personal ideological crusade of undermining and humiliating the core aspects of characters they deemed as “Toxic” or “White Supremacy”. Through the guise and protection of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity) & ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) they have used our influence in the entertainment industry to push their narratives and agendas that have stigmatized our culture with numerous anti-consumer practices that they call “being progressive”. But the truth of the matter is they were never really looking to be a part of our community, they simply wanted to use our community as a tool of activism and propaganda in the entertainment industry as it was extremely profitable, and they wanted inclusion in that division. Ever since GamerGate & Female Frequency, we have had to endure the incursion of forced ideologies, xenophobic behaviors and inferior overpriced products that have never been in our best interest and have been flat out disgraceful towards foreign media.
Before Gaming had become a major source of entertainment, we were often categorized as anti-social or societies rejects where because we found more enjoyment in playing fictional characters and not spending as much time out and about, we never fully assimilated in society (which is a good thing if you ask me). From 1998 to 2007, at the height of innovation, creativity and production, Gaming had reached a golden age in which it had revolutionized society. Hollywood Execs who had ruined the movie industry turned their attention to video games as a source of income since video games had outperformed movies in terms of profit. No one was concerned about gaming, much less diversity or inclusivity until it became profitable. This makes people like SBI look extremely disingenuous as they were not interested in gamers as a community with its own culture. They simply wanted to use it as another weapon in identity politics.
Microtransactions; the hidden enemy to gamer progress and inducer to mental laziness of our community. Microtransactions have been around for a long time; however, it has never been more potent and apparent than in recent years. It has aided in the dismantling and segregation of players on the ideology of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and has created another sub-culture of gamers who have no real drive to be better outside of how much money they put into the game. This has degraded our culture as well as we have become “fat” off transactional gaming but at the same time we have been “starved” of purposeful gaming where our achievements were our sustenance. I am not saying that microtransactions are bad, but when they are exploitative and predatorial like they have been and don’t give gamers room to grow, we become lethargic and unwilling to improve ourselves as gamers. Oversaturated microtransactional games are one of the many reasons why we have become complacent and unwilling to fight against the exploitative tactics used by big brand game companies such EA, Ubisoft, ActivisionBlizzard, NaughtyDog and so many other western business model companies. Western style games were not like this in the past, they had much more depth and actual effort put into them with the gamer in mind. This has not been the case for over a decade and our connection to western developers has been whittled down to just being transactional. That is one of the reasons why you see so many remasters and remakes in today’s gamer community. They have lost their willingness to improve as developers of games and simply accept corporate/share holder rules.
Game journalists also do not have any real integrity or purpose outside of being funded for their involvement in promoting IPG (Identity Political Games) in a positive light to the public whether it’s positively received or not. They are not interested in what we have to say, they all support the same agenda and that is why they are a dying breed. Within the next couple of years, they will be out of the job and more than likely they will not be able to stay in the industry giving how they have responded to past articles that have clearly been scripted on the premise of diversity and racism. Not only that, but most of them are also extremely hostile to the community as they stereotype and defame the individuals that are a part of the community they are supposed to serve. We have been mentally liberated from their lies and coercive tactics as we tend to laugh at their obvious attempt at virtue signaling while hiding their misdoings so that they can play the victim.
My gamer brothers & sisters, I would not suggest the following action that we must take now without good cause. I have weighed our options and the best option for us now is this…...CULTURAL SECESSION. Naturally this is a form of segregation where they would more than likely claim they are being segregated by the dominant culture of the gaming community but that is incorrect. For years now we have been the ones who are often marginalized and ostracized for the smaller portion of our community. And when we aren’t, we’re exploited for more funds so that these companies can stay in business only to subject us to low quality products that coincide with the “WOKE Agenda” that are often huge expenses to these big brands i.e. AAA/AAAA games that will eventually flop for its obvious forced diversity and bug infested product which will undoubtedly piss off the consumer to the point of wanting a refund. Losing copious amounts of capital and stock in the process, not to mention their reputation is permanently marred.
We must separate on every cultural level in terms of entertainment and ideology. We must reject everything from the west that promotes toxic western beliefs, practices, and exclusion from other cultures (i.e. Southeastern Countries such as Japan and Korea). Japan & Korea have been the targets of unjust discrimination from Western Developers, Western Journalists, Western Localizers (The Wokelizers) and Western Society Prejudice regarding their sense of aesthetics as Westerners hate the aesthetic sense of these countries. The reason why they resort to such base tactics isn’t just because it weaponizes the ideal female form but it’s also because they have deep-seated insecurities about their own looks so when they see attractive female characters, they use terms such as “unrealistic” or “hypersexualized” to establish the moral high ground. But the truth is, they want to feel superior to that which is ideal, so they insult and dehumanize this figure that portrays natural female beauty because they see it as an insult to their own social superiority in what they believe is a hierarchy of them being at the top of all other women. Because of this and so many contributing factors, their movies flop harder than the Fat Chocobo landing on a group of enemies and their games seismically fail just as much if not more. We must sever our connection to Western Developers, Publishers, and ALL Western-Centric Entertainment for they seek to mentally enslave us to their Xenophobic ideology.
Let’s define Western Culture and its traits. Western Culture/Society is composed of more than several different ideologies that work in unison with one another to facilitate dominance over multiple aspects of society. Business, Social, Political, Technological, and sometimes even Global Affairs are affected by these ideologies that portray a specific mindset of Western beliefs. What are those ideologies you ask?

These traits are so nefarious and unconscionable that I have a hard time believing that anyone could harbor them. However, given the social, political, and economic climate that we are in, those in power who use their influence on controlling society most definitely possess these insidious traits. Everything that they do is all about control and since video games are the biggest market in the world, they want control over it and the communities built around it to accrue more wealth and to use that wealth to subjugate other cultures. Mainstream media is a tool as well as mainstream organizations and sites to help accomplish this goal.
The government recently announced its intentions towards what they believe is “GamerGate 2.0” and now even the ADL has made an official appearance, referring to gamers as “extremist’s”. We know EXACTLY what they are doing, and they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore because they don’t think we are aware of their motives. This is just a pretext for them to exert even more control and we know why, it’s because they want the influence we as a community have to must serve them. So here is what we do my fellow gamers-
“In light of recent events and years of mainstream stigma, we the members of the Global Gaming Community [GGC] must officially renounce ALL TIES to the corporate western video game market. We have been financially exploited through predatorial monetization schemes, pelted with numerous articles of disdain and intentional misrepresentation from game journalists, news outlets regarding us as dangerous individuals and, even subjected to inferior products not only riddled with bugs but also products meant to push political agendas. For the preservation of our community and its unique culture, apart from a few select game development studios we officially sever all connections to western owned video game companies & their mainstream affiliates. From this point onward, we will no longer support western corporate developers, journalists and publishers that do not coincide with the goals of our community.”
Naturally this is completely optional. If you are okay with the state of the gaming community as it is, feel free to ignore this. But if you wish for real change and a break away from oversaturated monetization in the games you play and the push for radical ideological reform, then you are in the right place. Lets sever these rotted miasmic ties once and for all so that our community can be preserved and made better for future gamers. If you agree with this, share it with whoever you think might be interested. The more gamers who get involved, the easier it will be for us to finally break free from mainstream game companies and their associates.

2024.05.16 20:24 MRUtutor Tutoring - Upgrading courses

Hey there!
My name is Kate, I am offering tutoring for some of MRU’s Academic Upgrading courses. These include:
*I have not taken Math 0132 myself, but I’m open to chatting about it. *I took CHEM 181, which is SAIT’s equivalent course to CHEM 0115.
Rate: $25/hour for both session hours and prep hours. However long your session time is, I spend an equal amount of hours preparing material (similar to a lesson plan) for us to cover during the session itself. So for a 1 hour session, I spend a 1 hour doing prep - making the total cost $50.
Payment is per session, delivered via e-transfer on the same day that the session takes place. There is no cancellation fee for a missed session.
Format: Regular sessions take place online via Google Meet, with an option of scheduling an additional, occasional in-person session. Such as an in-person exam review session prior to an exam.
Session Options - 1 hour session - 1x/week = $50/week - 1 hour session - 2x/week = $100/week - 2 hour session - 1x/week = $100/week - 2 hour session - 2x/week = $200/week
Group Sessions are available for study groups, where the learners would share the cost of a session.
Contact: If you are interested, please comment and/or send me a direct message and I will send you my contact information.
My Upgrading Transcript
About Me
I dropped out of high school when I was in grade 11, but decided to finally come back to finish my schooling via Academic Upgrading at MRU almost a decade later! I completed my own upgrading this past Winter semester and will be applying to UofC for Engineering when applications open in the fall.
So I understand from personal experience how daunting it can be to overcome various academic challenges: whether they are from the perspective of being a mature student returning to school after many years away, a student with a learning disability and/or struggles with mental health, or just generally overcoming previous negative experiences with school. Due to this, I am incredibly passionate about helping other students “learn how to learn” and fall in love with learning, like I have!
Experience
My tutoring journey began when I was taking Chem 181 online at SAIT last summer. I started an online study group for some classmates and I to meet up weekly, which organically turned into informal tutoring sessions. I loved doing them - I really fell in love with it! I gained so much personal fulfilment from feeling like I was doing something to make a tangible difference for my fellow student’s academic success.
This inspired me to sign up as a Learning Peer in the PLP program when I returned to MRU in the fall, where I received formal training and valuable experience.
As an LP for MATH 0115 my first semester, I received excellent feedback in both my peer evaluation and from my learners themselves, along with a Learning Peer Award. I learned so much - I do my best to follow researched learning practices in my sessions, such as Varied Practice and Spaced Practice. I try to have my learners guide sessions as much as possible in terms of content and learning activities. I am passionate about receiving earner feedback regarding how I can improve. It is important to me that my learners to feel like our sessions are a productive use of their time.
In my second semester, I tutored groups in CHEM 0130 and MATH 0131 - along with taking some additional training through the PLP program. I improved as a tutor and received extremely positive feedback from my learners and in my 20-hour staff evaluation. I was awarded both a Learning Peer Award and an Outstanding Contribution award.
I have completed almost 50 session hours as an LP over the course of the 2 semesters, with nearly 70 total volunteer hours - which includes hours spent in training.
References In the PLP program, Learners can provide anonymous feedback for their LP during mid and end semester evaluations. Mine include:
“Kate has been absolutely wonderful, I wouldn’t be doing so well in my class if it weren’t for her”
“I feel like Kate is devoted to us and our improvement”
“I’ve had an excellent experience so far. Kate is doing a great job!”
“Kate is really thorough in going through problems and concepts step by step and explaining each in a more detailed way then we did in class.”

2024.05.16 20:24 Aanchal_010 I’ll always love you and will have always have a soft corner in my heart❤️🌠

It didn’t really start off good but I would always want to remember him💘 Maybe not in this life hope it works out in the other.. You were the first person whom I guess I genuinely loved maybe I was not good at showing it but those teasing annoying you was my kinda way of showing love I had never really loved anyone in my life but it was my first so… It was kind of hard not showing that I liked you though it was obvious enough but I guess it didn’t mean a lot to you but for me it meant it lot… Maybe it was me that didn’t make the move it was my first so I was kinda scared of rejection I suppose and mostly I thought things would not work out so I never did :( I didn’t really had a good image of him and I had always thought that staying away from him was the best but like knowing him everything changed…. That image that I had of him in my mind was completely shattered I really did enjoy talking to him but mostly I could not to him in person first of all I used to get so shy and I don’t know abt him like did he also really like me? Though I never asked and I would never I really wanted to know maybe he just saw me as a friend that’s okay though :) I didn’t really expect much cuz I never dated so But as we started talking firstly his replies was fucking late like I would sit there literally waiting for his replies😩 Like who replies after 1 day my letter would deliver faster😟 But I kinda got used to it and even knowing the time he used to online so i would wait for his replies in those times and get super mad if he is online and is still not replying to me🙄 Anyways our talks was like nothing serious like I never really asked him any personal questions cuz if a person feels comfortable they would automatically say it itself that’s what I believe so… So we did talk about our day and I would talk every single detail about my day to my surprise I feel he is a pretty good listener like I would write a whole paragraph and he would read it and ask me about those small details… Those moments I would be smiling like a fool Days passed by we did talk everyday but I always had thoughts that one day we would completely stop talking but it’s just better for both of us just my thoughts. Though things happened where I was obviously jealous cuz he used to always be with that one girl though she was nice but seeing him with someone else really did hurt me so I used to just run fast back home… Though there were days where we completely stopped talking and we used to just share reels and nothing though I used to see him everyday Just didn’t really knew how to converse with him… First of all the reason I really liked him was that he really took his studies seriously I admired that the most so I started working hard along with him.I found out that we both had so much similarities like studying at night and we were really not a morning person 🤪 I feel that he really helped me get back on track with my studies seeing him really motivated me… Maybe he doesn’t know it but he really left a big impact in me through those small things he would do for me it really meant so much from helping me with my studies to listening to my yapping:)and I’ll forever will be grateful for that.. The way you used to ask me to call you to wake u up to study i was genuinely excited tbh first I though you would pick up the call like damn u texted me that I’m up so I was like this is how it is so nevermind 🧐 Sorry for days in which I could not wake u up cuz broo even I need to fucking sleepppp😭 But texting you after waking u up was genuinely fun😼 like those nagging to not fall asleep again I like doing it 😗 I really wanted to thank you for helping me in my studies you were really there when I needed you and I loved the feeling that someones really out there who is equally working as hard as me right now …

2024.05.16 20:11 ravioliravioli1234 NUS NURSING REJECTION

Hi i just received the rejection outcome tdy, looking to appeal, wanted to know my chances of success and how to go forward from now.
about me: Poly student from nyp (gpa 3.45), only join in SHSS club as a member but instead joined in more events/camps throughout poly.
Has/had multiple part time jobs while studying. Started volunteering regularly since feb 2024
context: applied for NUS nursing only as i would only want to be in nursing in the future, saw no pojnt in applying for other courses.
did not get any interviews -> no news until rejection tdy.
re: SIT nursing, did not complete application in time before deadline. therefore, not possible.
currently decision:
appeal if not succesful -> gap year, build portfolio and try 2025 again for both nus and sit this time.
if i still am reject by then -> will just work and get a degree in the future instead (not vv worried about lacking behind and waiting)
Questions: 1) Would testimonials or recommendation letters help with appeal? (thinking of attaching in email to NUS separately)
2) Would it be better to start working in a hospital full time with my diploma then quit if i get accepted next year?
3) Join hospital as a locum nurse and do more passion projects relating to nursing?
4) What are my chances of successful appeal if i did not go through the interview?
5) anyone got a lower gpa (<3.4) but got an interview offer? (want to see if my write up was the problem instead)
any advice is appreciated :”) thank you in advance

2024.05.16 20:05 mrs_robpatt I am so sick of this internship application process

I am currently a second year economics and marketing student.
Didn’t really know about spring weeks until quite late and by the time I applied, I didn’t have enough experience to pass any of them. I would like to have a banking role, but it seems like nobody wants me.
So many of my friends got a spring and I regretted never replying much because I didn’t think I had it in me.
I decided I need to change that so I applied very early on for all the summer internships I could find for this summer but out of the two I was riding on the one I wanted the most rejected me half an hour ago . I am truly numb. I know some terrible people who have got internships lined up and I just don’t understand, (i know i’m just being bitter here but I try to be a good person in my day-day life and it seems so unfair). I tried my best and I tried my hardest. I learnt from my mistakes and I took it really seriously this time.
In order to secure a penultimate internship, I need some experience. But at this rate I won’t have any.
When people tell me to network I try but nobody responds to me, whether that’s people or cold emailing. I have cold emailed every retail bank in my vicinity. Some didn’t even bother with a response.
I’m truly sick of this. There’s a few I have applied to you that haven’t even responded, which I don’t think ever will. I redid my cv and cover letter over and over each time to make it better. I’ve stayed up late applying so many nights. I have severe anxiety so this is just extremely taxing.
Thinking of everyone having their experiences at internships when I’m just sitting in my house seems like torture.
I just want to give up.

2024.05.16 19:47 Screaming-Mandrake First research meeting tips

I didn’t get into any summer research programs, so I cold emailed several doctors and only one responded. I have an in-person meeting scheduled for next week. I’m nervous because my past experiences with rejection suggest that my interviewing skills need improvement. Additionally, I'm not great at networking or being a social butterfly, which I recognize I need to work on.
This is a field I’m not very familiar with, so I plan to read their pubs and prepare to talk about my interest in their specialty. Do you have any other recommendations?
Also, I’m unsure about the dress code. I have no idea how formal this meeting will be. Would business casual be the safer choice or is it okay with scrubs? It's in surgery, idk if that makes any difference.

Mayor is lying once again
This mayor is a liar.
“Remember when @mikefarnworthbc gave Surrey a deadline to accept BC's $250m "final offer" on policing and was surprised Mayor Brenda Locke rejected it April 9? Turns out, she HAD accepted the deal initially, then changed her mind. Here's the letter (had to file $10 FOI to get it)”

2024.05.16 19:11 yeahnothx13 Letters from home

Do we know if the people that don’t go on this reward still get their loved one letters once they’re out of the game?
For example, someone voted out the day before who production must’ve asked for those letters in case they were there for the reward. Or did Q get his once he got to Ponderosa? Did Maria and Ben get theirs at whatever point they’re not in the game anymore?
Just curious if this has been revealed by production or a player and I missed it. Thanks!

The company is on track to recommence production at its Lucero project in Arequipa, Peru, targeting a restart by 2024. Lucero, known for its high-grade deposits, stands as a cornerstone in Element79 Gold’s portfolio.
In addition to its developments in Peru, Element79 Gold holds an impressive suite of assets along the Battle Mountain trend in Nevada. This includes the promising Clover and West Whistler projects, which show potential for rapid resource development. Notably, three properties within this portfolio are poised for sale to Valdo Minerals Ltd., with the transaction expected to be finalized in the first half of 2024.
Expanding its geographical footprint, Element79 Gold is also making strides in British Columbia. The company has initiated a drilling program and signed a Letter of Intent to acquire a private company holding an option for 100% interest in the Snowbird High-Grade Gold Project. This project comprises 10 mineral claims located strategically near Fort St. James, reinforcing the company’s asset base in central British Columbia.
Further enhancing its asset management strategy, Element79 Gold has moved its Dale Property, located approximately 100 km southwest of Timmins, Ontario, into a spin-out process through its wholly owned subsidiary, Synergy Metals Corp. This strategic realignment is aimed at maximizing shareholder value through efficient asset utilization and focused corporate structuring.

2024.05.16 19:09 blooburriebuns Is He Interested?

This guy (23M) and I (23F) met through a mutual friend I went to college with (they went to high school together), and we've been gaming friends for around 4 years now. Since around last year:
Not long ago, he visited me (I live in an unpopular city where my friends and family aren't even that willing to see me) and stayed over for a few days. On one of the nights, we ended up drinking bottles of wine and while I blacked out a little, I remember that we cuddled/spooned on the sofa throughout the night. I woke up much earlier than him and slept a little longer in my own bed. When we talked in the morning, he claimed that he didn't remember the second half of the night so I feigned no knowledge too. I'm not sure if he's just pretending because it might be awkward. He's not someone who normally shows skinship to anybody but I can't tell if it was the alcohol or if there's any interest at all. It's also complicated because I recently came out of a 3-year relationship, where he knew my ex and we talked about it on this same trip.
Since then, we've texted on a semi-regular basis, sent each other daily Insta reels of things we find funny and relatable, and a lot of other things that friends do. The only other thing that made me wonder if there's any interest was when he went on an international trip and checked 10 different makeup stores to see if they had a product I wanted. Maybe he's just a really good friend lol but I don't even know if my girl friends would do that for me.
He's mentioned being a friend-to-lovers kind of guy but has also expressed a fear of rejection & women, which just makes me overthink everything that's happening. He doesn't usually initiate any 1:1 hanging out (but then again he doesn't really for anyone) and seems always nonchalant/not that excited that I'm coming to his city to see/hang out with him (but he houses me so).
Yeaaaaa so idk lmao. I'd appreciate any thoughts on if he has interest and what's happening/what he's thinking at all.

2024.05.16 19:08 AwkwardLittleMush I'm worried by partners work are trying to fire him for his disabilities

Sorry this is a bit long.
England.
My partner started a new job in March at a pharmaceutical company. He has a known disability (fibromyalgia) that he gets PIP for as it can affect his mobility. The main way it manifests is that he experiences moderate to severe joint pain in the mornings or after long periods of physical activity, has random dizzy spells and heat flashes, and sometimes his joints will swell and he will nearly collapse because they seize up. He is also currently under investigation for autism, and displays many of the characteristics for autism.
When he interviewed for his job, he disclosed all of this information and asked about accommodations, and they told him they were very inclusive and would put measures in place with occupational health to support him. They also advertised in both the job advert and interview that they had flexible work from home options, and this was put in his offer letter and his contact, and it did not mention restrictions to the work from home policy.
He started getting complaints a few weeks ago. He got a complaint because people said that when he went to their desks to ask them questions, he was looking at their computers and papers on their desks and they thought he was trying to read things and be nosey. He apologised and explained that he wasn't reading anything, he just struggled with eye contact and felt more comfortable looking down at inanimate objects. They told him to just try being more aware of his behaviour.
The most serious issue was last week. He had a random joint flair and nearly fainted due to pain and over heating and nearly collapsed . The first aider and his manager were called, and he was dizzy, pale, hot, and his hands had swollen very badly. His manager apparently commented that they didn't realise he gets this unwell because he "looks fine" most of the time when he told them this occasionally happens. He got sent home and the first aider told him that he should try to work from home the rest of the day and the next if possible. However, the next day he got a phone call asking where he was because he wasn't at his desk, even though he emailed them early that morning to tell them about working from home because he would struggle with the commute. They told him that the work from home policy doesn't apply to him because he's in his probation period, and that it's at his managers discretion and they said he had to be in the office or call out sick. But they also said that any sick days on a Friday get flagged in the system as they are "suspicious", and he needed to think carefully about it. So he went in and got a verbal warning from his manager about it.
There's so many other things they've done which make us both think they're trying to push him out.
Today he got pulled into the office yo put him on a formal performance improvement plan. Some of the issues are either things he has tried to explain are linked to his disability, and others are things they have never brought up until now. He's devastated as his manager gave him no warning for this and dismissed him straight after without asking how he felt about it, or letting him speak.
Is there anything we can do? He's part of a union (he joined after the 1st verbal warning) but they take so long to respond and he migh tnot have been a member long enough for them to help. It's really affecting his mental health and he's nearly at a breaking point.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.16 19:07 MulberryParsnip How can I get noticed for managerial roles?

Hello! As the post states, I am looking to take my career to the next level with a managerial role. I have been applying externally to my current role as there are no opportunities where I presently work. I am a communications professional with over ten years of experience working in government, and I'd like to stay in that kind of environment if possible but I'm open to other opportunities. Anyhow, I've been applying for months with no luck obtaining any interviews or interest for managerial roles (I do get interviews for lateral moves, just not for anything in management). I have tailored my resume and cover letter to focus on successes in my previous roles alongside my responsibilities, and emphasized supervisory and leadership experience. I have also done a lot of in person and online networking, which has resulted in some coffee chats but nothing formal.
Wondering if anyone has any advice on what I might be doing wrong, or on how I can spark interest from hiring managers to take the next steps in my career? I apply to things where I have the requisite experience and where I think I could but a good fit, but nothing seems to give. It's been a bit discouraging and I'd really appreciate ideas or advice.

The stream can be watched in full here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh5piV-0MWQ.
There was a fair amount of gameplay footage shown of the new content (particularly of the new/updated job actions and two brand new jobs), but I only pulled a few points of relevant information from it, rather than summarizing it all. But, as usual, please let me know if I missed anything major!

  • A new action which repositions Ley Lines beneath the caster once will be added
Summoner

2024.05.16 19:01 IrinaSophia Saint Theodore the Sanctified, Disciple of Pachomios the Great (+ 368) (May 16th)

Saint Theodore was called “Sanctified” because he had purified his heart of its passions and made his body a worthy temple of the Holy Spirit, so that he was the first in his monastery to be ordained to the priesthood.*
Saint Theodore came from Egypt and was the son of wealthy and noble Christian parents. The yearning for monastic life appeared early in him. Once there was a large party at the house of his parents during the feast of Theophany. The boy did not want to take part in the festivities, grieving that because of earthly joys he might be deprived of joys in the life to come. He secretly left home when he was fourteen and entered one of the monasteries in the diocese of Sne, near the modern town of Esna, Egypt. A brother from Theodores’ monastery stayed with Abba Pachomios in Tabennisi while traveling and preached of the virtues of the cenobium upon his return to Sne.
Hearing about Pachomios the Great, he burned with the desire to see the ascetic. Although initially denied passage to Tabennese by a Pachomian monk due to his wealthy background, Theodore opted to follow the visiting monk, and his persistence (and lack of obedience) paid off. He was welcomed by Pachomios upon his arrival, having been informed by God beforehand about his coming, and quickly integrated into the community at Tabennisi around 328. Remaining at the monastery, Saint Theodore quickly succeeded in all his monastic tasks, particularly in his complete obedience to his spiritual father, and in his compassion towards the other brethren. Theodore’s mother, learning that he was at the Tabennisi monastery, came to Saint Pachomios with a letter from the bishop, asking to see her son. Saint Theodore did not wish to break his vow to renounce the world, so he refused to meet with his mother. Seeing a convent not far away which was under the spiritual direction of Pachomios' sister, she entered the convent and was tonsured a nun. After a period of time Paphnutios, Theodore's brother, also came to the monastery and was tonsured a monk.
Seeing Theodore’s strength of mind and ability, Pachomios once told him to instruct the brethren on Holy Scripture. Saint Theodore was then only twenty years old. He obeyed and began to speak, but some of the older brethren took offense that a new monk should teach them, and they departed. Pachomios said to them, “You have given in to the devil and because of your conceit, your efforts will come to naught. You have not rejected Theodore, but rather the word of God, and have deprived yourselves of the Holy Spirit.”
Pachomius appointed Saint Theodore as overseer of the Tabennisi monastery, and withdrew to the more solitary Monastery of Phbow (several new monasteries had been built by this time). However, Pachomios recalled him from the position after witnessing several monks under Theodores’ watch violating the monastic rules without reprimand. Having failed to prove his governing ability and once more in a position no higher than when he had entered the monastery, Theodore became a personal assistant to Pachomios and remained relatively quiet for some years. Despite his clear potential and popularity, Pachomios refused to grant Theodore any kind of authority; though the old man's failing health soon changed things forever.
When Theodore the Sanctified was in Panopolis with Saint Pachomios, his spiritual father, a philosopher came to him and offered to debate with him about the Christian faith. The philosopher then posed these three questions to Theodore: "Who was not born, but died?" "Who was born and did not die?" "Who died and did not decay?" To these questions, Theodore replied: "Adam was not born and died. Enoch was born and did not die. Lot's wife died and did not decay." And the Saint added this advice to the philosopher: "Heed our sound advice; depart from these useless questions and scholastic syllogisms; draw near to Christ Whom we are serving and you will receive forgiveness of sins."
After Theodore had been assisting Pachomios at Tabennisi for several years following his demotion, Pachomios became very ill and seemed to be on the verge of death. Pachomios had not named a successor, and several brothers pleaded with Theodore to assert himself as head of the cenobium when the sickly man died. Despite the assertion that Theodore apparently did not want the rank of a father, he consented. Unfortunately for the would-be leader, Pachomios recovered, and upon hearing of Theodore’ decision, exiled the ambitious young man. After living a life of constant weeping and prayer in solitude, Pachomios forgave Theodore and allowed him to live among the brothers once more. Normalcy returned, though never again would Pachomios fully trust his former protégé.
In 348 Saint Pachomios died, naming the monk Petronios as his successor rather than the clearly qualified Theodore. The death of Petronios later that year would leave Apa Horsiesios (Orsisius) in charge, and the popular Theodore would retreat to the distant Monastery of Phnoum. Although it seems Theodore practiced complete submission to the new leader of the cenobium, problems soon arose in several Pachomian monasteries that viewed Horsiesios as a weak leader. Refusing to work or communicate and demanding a new leader, many of the elder monks completely abandoned any notion of obedience to Horsiesios. The federation of monasteries was falling apart, and Theodore rushed to Tabennisi to placate the rebels. Soon after his arrival, Theodore was the new de facto leader, though he claimed to be only acting on behalf of Horsiesios. For eighteen years Theodore administered from Pachomios’ old headquarters in Phbow, using techniques far more assertive than his predecessors, such as constantly shuffling the offices and locations of the most ambitious monks. Yet in spite of this somewhat unstable shifting, he oversaw the Thebaid monasteries peacefully for nearly two decades, at which point Theodore predicted he would soon die. Within a few months his prediction came true, and Apa Horsiesios once more took his place as the head of the communities in both title and authority.
Saint Theodore the Sanctified was famed for his sanctity of life, and the great gifts of wonderworking and prophecy (many of his miracles and prophecies are recorded in the Letter of Ammon), and he was well known to Saint Athanasius, Patriarch of Alexandria, who heaped praises on Theodore after his passing. Saint Theodore reposed in his old age in the year 368.

2024.05.16 18:53 LucidProgrammer Pending offer letter from J2 - leverage for pay increase at J1 or not worth the risk?

So I got the email saying I was selected for the role. Awaiting HR request for info for the formal letter drafting.
J2 is slightly more than J1 which is why I think J1 may say sure we'll match it. But there are obvious potential downsides to disclosing this info to J1.
Question is, should I try to leverage this offer letter at J1 for a potential wage increase or just take it and shut up (I'm assuming the latter but curious what yall think).

2024.05.16 18:48 _painless_ So this week a GP told me that medication wasn't the preferred treatment for most cases of ADHD

And that I should just try and use behavioural stuff learned at a support group, which I don't even need a diagnosis for, so why am I so set on getting one? [NB I am set on finding out if I actually have ADHD, not demnading a diagnosis.] He repeated this about ten times - apparently I just have to learn better coping techniques and organisational strategies. MY WHOLE LIFE IS A COPING STRATEGY AND THERE IS NO ORGANISATIONAL TECHNIQUE I HAVE NOT TRIED. (Also I've read the NICE guidelines - that is not what they say.)
The support group in question is one that I waited 7 months to hear back from after referral, who had just told me that it meets for 2 hours a week in the middle of a weekday afternoon.
I have a full time 9-5 job. Who already think I'm a flake because I need so much time off for medical stuff, which I then try to make up for by working late at night when I feel a focus binge coming on and generally flogging myself into a state of psychological collapse.
I also don't have a diagnosis because the distracted psychiatrist I FINALLY saw deemed me insufficiently impaired. During the consultation he *skim read* read the paperwork I submitted mnths before describing my issues that had not been included in my file; left the room three times to phone his pregnant wife after reading texts during the assessment I'd waited a year and a half for (his THREE MONTH pregnant wide it eventually turned out, not his "about to go into labour" wife as I had assumed); dimissed completely the relevance of my laundry list of blood relatives with serious mental issues (diagnosed, undiagnosed & partially diagnosed); and had zero interest in my questions about an underlying cause for the permanent depression and anxiety issues I've struggled with since my teen years, which are very poorly managed by my two plus decade long SSRI prescription (now changed to an SNRI prescription with very little impact except some horrible new side effects). He also failed to notice that I'd told him one of my parents is dead and the other insists that she can't remember anything about my childhood - and wrote that I "refused to approach parents for evidence" in his report. Oh and had indicated a prescription different from the one we agreed in the assessment.
I'm basically in despair at this point. Feeling entirely dismissed because I'm a late 40s woman who has spent her life furiously masking and burning out every 18 months or so. Apparently becoming unable to function for weeks to months every year and a bit is "not sufficiently impaired" and just means I have some "ADHD traits". I have a job and no active addictions so I cannot expect any actual help or to be taken seriously.
I'm in Scotland (Lothian), so I can see no hope of shared care if I was to go private and get a diagnosis, which will use up all of my spare £ as I already pay for private therapy in a deperate attempt to remain sort of functional. The GP surgery has anyway strongly discouraged any talk of seeking a private assessment/possible diagnosis. What the fuck am I supposed to do???
I have been trying to write a letter asking for a second opinion for 7 .5 months now - should I also make a formal complaint?
