2024.06.09 17:34 darkarts__ Node.js Core Concept without any Frameworks

NOTE = "Skip to 9th Paragraph for the meat";
I've been doing Cododev's Node.js core concept course after hearing very great things about it in this sub. I'm a big fan of - - low level programming - rebuilding framework from scratch - diving deeper into source code
I've worked as a Data Scientist and an Application Developer (Flutter). Dart has a strong backend support but since I was a complete beginner in Backend, it was hard for me to straight away start with Adapters, Middlewares and Routing.
I tried express but it felt like cheating. When I say app = Express() I get a server. What the fuck is a server??? With Firebase and Cloud, I was getting even more confused.
I wanted to learn Go, Axum, Spring, Node and I was evaluating - actually wasting time without learning anything because everywhere they were using some framework which felt like a black box and I needed a low level guide that ensures i become a backend master by the end of it.
Characteristic of a good course is it just doesn't teach you the code, it teaches you the algorithm and constructs which you could use in any language or tool you wish and that's when I found out about Cododev.
Why I decided to go with his Node. js course - 1. It was talking about basics before even touching HTTP for 30 hours. 2. He talked about TCP for 9 hours, HTTP for 9 hours, Taught UNix and C for 8 hours and a lot more... it's 50+ hour course. 3. You shouldn't measure a course by its length, so here's the projects which that course has -
Course isn't complete yet, moduls that are left are - 1. Encryption and Cryptography 2. Worker Threads (and multi threading? I don't know if Node is multi threaded, but whatever sort of Parallelism you could achieve with Isolates) 3. Security 4. Taking a huge open source project and Reimplementing the backend in the framework we started building from HTTP section.
What have I learned -
I now understand Binary, Hex, encoding ,ASCII, unicode(utf-8,16,32,..n), bytes, bits, how they relate to each other.
I understand the event emitters.. Events, .on(), .emit(), and could easily read docs for any such structure like Servers( they're EEs)
I understand Streams, How data is moved across places through memory, storage and network. I understand processing(CPU%), disk usage, and memory usage (of node's + high watermark value).
I understand Readable, Writable, Duplex and Transform Streams, and could implement them without the functions provided on file handle and I could manage and tweak how much memory or processing any Stream would use.
I understand about internal writable/readable buffers, buffer overflow, sync and async passage, safe/ unsafe streams, data event, end event, error event, drain event. Pausing, Resuming and Destroying a stream.
And at the end, piping and pipelines because that's the battle tested way but now I know both of those works and could even tweak source code at will.
Requests, Response, TCP Connection, Socket - they are all Streams.
Literally the bit level control over data, processing and memory - he taught me that.
I understand File Systems very well. On a server and on a client device. With streams, you could create a fully functional File system which can copy, move, delete, rename, create, etc. We did that.
Then he started with Networking. That was a journey. For hours he talked about followup things - 1. Internet 2. How it works 3. Communication 4. Wired Communication through Cables(he already taught us streams which is how communication or movement of data happen in memory and internal storage) 5. Switch, Cables, IP Addresses, Mac Addresses, Routers 6. Networking Layers and IANA. 7. Physical Layer, Data Link Layer, IP/Network Layer, TCP/ Transport Layer, and Application Layer. 8. DNS, IP Addresses - IPv4 and IPv6. Ports.
I'm sure I have missed something but you get the gist.. Now the course started properly. We started talking about TCP.
He literally went into Specifications, Headers, and on the wireshark captured the segments and made me understand how data flows throughout the entire world. I learnt about TCP Server in net module. It's events and methods. Clients(Socket Connection).
We then very casually hosted this Server on AWS. Made multiple clients and created a group chat with just readable and writable streams pausing, draining and resuming with a freaking Terminal UI. I was never as thrilled and understood chat application soo well.
We made a TCP and UDP uploader using which you could send your local files to any server through network using Streams with just TUI. We built an FTP protocol of our own.
At this time, without even knowing what HTTP and Web Server, I was able to Reimplement parts of Dart Shelf - A library in that allows you to create Middlewares and all.. Like implementing Requests, Response, headers and Servers from scratch, because it's the same thing with different syntax.
I then started with HTTP module. First of all I understood that I have already implemented HTTP while trying to make different custom protocols on top of TCP. That confidence boost was enough to go further -
I understood - all the headers - content type - mimes, content length, transfer encoding chunked, three way handshake, ack, syn was already done in TCP. - http versions, http headers, and body, HTTP methods ( for requests) - create, put, post, update, delete, head, get, option, etc and Idempotency and why adhering to it is important. - HTtP Responses ( For Responses) - Informational Range(1), Success Range(2), Redirect Range(3), Client Error(4), Server Error(5**). - We read IANA and MDN docs
He then started creating an express like framework. We started listening from a Server and used on() methods and functions to manage routes and sending different requests with different status codes.
I saw how if I returned HTML by writing it on a Response stream, it renders the freaking website. Fuck! I can also send audio, image, or any file type in the body through writing on the Response Stream at any required processing or Memory usage.
We implemented a routing functionality, a request handler and easy file transfer protocols and json protocols. I learned parsing and Stringifying and how even that is a cost.
Overall this framework can create a server like app = express(); about which I had no fucking clue about a month ago. Does JSON Parsing, Has an FTP, Handles routing for any kind of backend api structuring and send status codes. All in a chained method format..
Right now, I have just started building this Social Media application in the course using which we will develop our framework more.. I'm just starting this part of the course...
Over all I've never felt so confident in my backend skills and I have noticed that no matter in what language I see the backend code in - go, php, rust, Dart, python, Java, bun, deno, c, cpp - I understand it all. Everything makes perfect sense.
And I have only completed 60% of existing course. Course itself is 60% completed. I plan to use Dart anyways in my Flutter Apps but the crazy amount of knowledge this guy "Joseph" has poured into a course is unsurmountable.
For someone really experienced or a low level programmer, this might not be a big deal for a person completely new to backend and with very little knowledge of system programming and Linux - this course has been a freaking godsend.
That was my experience, Node is awesome! Thanks for reading.

2024.06.09 17:23 notJamesRob Shaheed Season is here, buy before he fly's

Rashid Shaheed is a player I see very rarely discussed on this reddit so today I wanted to talk about why this is his season to take off. Shaheed in a lot of peoples minds is just your typically speedster who will always be a "field stretcher" and never turn into a useful fantasy asset. This is reflected in his KTC value where he is ranked as the WR66, below guys like QJ(WR63) Jeudy(WR60) Doubs (WR50) and even Jamo(WR45).
Now I can understand why Shaheeds value is at this point. Up to this point in his career his really just been a big play threat and a special teams guy. But this year that will be changing. At the moment Rashid Shaheed is listed as the WR2 in the saints depth chart. His main competition for this is Cedrick washed Wilson and A.T Perry. Neither of these guys bring what Shaheed brings to the table. The saints didn't go out and grab anyone in the drafted or pickup any free agents which tells me they are ok with Shaheed being the 2nd WR.
And how couldn't they be. Shaheed came into the NFL as an undrafted FA and he really didn't get a chance until week 12 of his rookie year when MT went down. Once Shaheed was given his opportunity he took it and ran piling up 343 yards from week 12 on. He also put up a crazy YPRR landing at 2.77 (which was clearly due for regression 1.68 this year). But my point being when Shaheed has been given a chance he's never backed down from the moment.
This year Shaheed got to see the field a bit more. Playing 15 games this year and putting up a respectable line of 46/719/5. Still though Shaheed only played over 80% of the snaps one time this year where he had 5 catches 70 yards and a touchdown. Out of his 15 games 4 of them he had over 70% snap percentage.
Now many people will read that last paragraph and say its an issue with his game. "How can MT go down and Shaheed not improve to take his place" When MT went down during the season Shaheed himself was also battling an injury. He was never able to progress to a full starter workload. But now this season MT is gone and no one was brought in to replace him. Shaheed will be going in fully healthy.
Shaheed is one of those WRs that has a super unique skill set. There's not many players who can score from any place on the field. He also has great hands as shown throughout the season(TNF vs Jags, one hand catch back of endzone) and doesn't shy away from contested catches. (TD vs Atlanta week 18, Mossing a Texans WR week 6).
If Shaheed can gain consistent playtime I think we will see a rise in his floor. At the moment he is a very boom bust player, but a rise in his floor could mean he becomes a week to week choice in your flex with massive upside.
Getting Shaheed on your roster isn't very difficult right now. As mention earlier on KTC he is WR66. This is actually valued less that a 2025 late 2nd. This seems like an easy slam. A 2025 2nd is already a dart throw and almost never walking into a WR2 role on his team. Shaheed has a 700 yard season under his belt rapport with his QB and trust from his team.
Another trade I saw on KTC was Jamo for Shaheed and a late 2026 2nd. Shaheed comps very similarly to Jamo but he's actually shown it on the NFL field. This is no shot on Jamo but he has a very similar skill set with much less chance for opportunity. I think atm Shaheed is what Jamo owners want Jamo to be.
So are you buying into Shaheed at his current value. I think if your a rebuilding team looking to make some value this season, or a contending team in need of filling out your WR depth Shaheed is a guy you should be targeting. The three things you want to bet on in fantasy is Talent, Opportunity, and Dawg(TOD). Shaheed for me has shown all three and I think he'll only continue to do so.
If you made it this far you are a GOAT. Feel free to leave your opinion's positive or negative (plz don't downvote ppl to oblivion because u disagree with them). I'm very interested to see this community's take on Shaheed

2024.06.09 17:21 leonreddit8888 Flood Spores vs Infection forms, Strength and Weakness (Lore and Theory)

People have been asking about the usefulness of the Flood Pod Infectors when spores seemingly did the same thing but potentially better. This is a fair question and something I really wanted to discuss after writing the Flood spore lore post a year ago, so I hope I can offer some clarification.
So, while both type of Flood forms were broadly categorized as Flood Infection Forms in the new encyclopedia, both served different purposes, and one type was more suitable in situations where the other wasn't.
Top Start off:

Pod Infectors

Arguably the most memorable of all Flood creatures, the Pod Infectors have appeared since the first game and were originally called simply as Infection forms, before this term became an umbrella label for different types of Flood forms sharing the same function.
Infection Forms:
All Infection forms share several key morphological traits across their variations, each suited for subduing and subverting any avaliable organic targets. The most commonly encountered Infection forms have a frond-like array, which act as the creature's sensory system, steming from soft, pod-shaped bodies filled with noxious gases that allow them to bound over the ground and obstacles at surprising speeds.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2022, p.406)
So, from this passage, we know that Pod Infectors had a good degree of mobility. In Halo Wars, it was even referenced that they could climb over cliffs, so rough terrains would not hinder their march.
Pod Infectors:
Though individually weak and easily killed, pod infectors strike in vast numbers and can move over cliffs.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Log)
In contrasts, Flood spores had no means of self-propelled locomotion; they can only float aimlessly instead. The anime Halo Origins also shows us Pod Infectors that could perform guided flight. The reason why we haven't encountered these Flood types in the games might be due to the fact that the parasites were more evolved and more powerful during the Forerunner-Flood war.
So we clearly see that the regular Infection forms have an advantage over spores in maneuverability, but what matters more is another factor: Pod Infectors have weapons.
Infection Forms:
Each tendril ends in nano-scale barbs which can latch onto the target's body and cut through armor or environmental suits.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Log)
While the virulence of Flood spores shouldn't be underestimated, the fact that they had virtually no offensive capabilities (they are usually just clusters holding Flood Super Cells together) means that decently protective gear such as fully-sealed environmental suits would be sufficient in keeping you safe in areas where the air is contaminated.
Moreover, Infection via a Pod Infector is by far the fastest method, which often just takes seconds to complete. This is due to the far higher dosages of spores being injected by a Pod Infector injects than infection via inhalation of spore-contaminated air.
And yes, Pod Infectors still use spores for infection.
343 Guilty Spark: "You can see how the body has been transformed by the genetic restructuring of the Flood infection. The small creatures carry spores that cause a host to mutate."
(Halo Combat Evolved, Level: The Library)
And after all, spores are just Flood cells grouped together.
Spore:
Encysted Flood cells form spores, which can remain dormant for centuries.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2022, p.404)
There's another usage for Pod Infectors, which is what we're all familiar with: to create and control Combat forms.
According to the encyclopedia, infection via spores would instead turn the hosts, living or dead, into incubation pods rather than mutating them into the typical Combat forms.
Spore:
Spores can parasite sapient and non-sapient species, consuming them and transforming their biomass into egg-like incubators for larger, more mobile Flood Infection forms.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Logs)
These incubators are commonly called "Blisters" or "Flood eggs".
The necessity of a Pod Infector in order to create a Combat form is implied by another passage saying that the Flood cells in the wounds would transform the target into a Blister rather than a Combat form.
Infection forms:
Even if the infection form is quickly removed, Flood cells in the wounds will slowly consume the victim and turn them into quivering, spore-packed Blisters.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Log)
This actually makes sense, since a Pod Infector does possess some rudimental level of sentience. This enables the creature to control the infection processes, while spores simply just convert original biomass into more Flood matters.
In action, Pod Infectors replaces the brain as the host's commanding "organ", controlling all functions, processing all knowledge and experience from the host, and absorbing them to the collective hive-consciousness.
Infection forms:
Though barely intelligent on their own, once an infection form infiltrates a sentient creature they turn the victim's cognitive power to the furtherance of Flood goals. Each is an insidious puppeteer, able to sift through memories of any sentient creature to learn of military countermeasures, security access codes, and the location of population centers.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Log)
Pod Infectors can perform biological modification for the host.
Combat form:
The infection form does augment its new body and repair minor damage in order to better serve as a living weapon, but ultimately the combat form is utterly disposable.
(Halo Wars 2, Phoenix Log)
This comes in the form of alterations of the host's anatomical structures.
Combat forms possess unnatural physical strength, perhaps gained through the mutations of the host's musculoskeletal structures.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2009, p.165)
We've also seen some very extensive bodily restructuring, such as this human being grotesquely contorted.
Nevertheless, there are a few instances where the creation of Combat forms occured without Pod Infectors present.
  1. UNSC marine Orlav was slashed in the back by a Combat form. Even when a piece of Flood flesh was removed, she turned into a Combat form not long after.
  2. On the infested surface of Shield World 0459, one ODST mentioned he was bitten by the Flood before inevitably transforming into a Combat form.
No explanation has been given; my reasoning would be that both incidents happened near a Proto-Gravemind. One was in the engine room of UNSC Mona Lisa, and one was on Trove, so the respective Compound mind can assume direct control over the Flood easily by themselves.
All in all, Pod Infectors are the more direct threats. They are very agile, they have razor sharp claws, they convert victims far quicker than any other forms, and they can choose what they will do with their victims.
Now, what do Flood spores excel at?

Spores

Unlike Pod Infectors, spores don't aggressively attack prey, which makes them seem as the lesser threats compared to other Flood presences. However, this works only in the Flood's own favor, as spores can spread further and under everyone's noses because the defenders are too occupied.
Moreover, the tendency of the spores to infest insignificant organisms as well as propogate on inanimate objects actually keep them and their growth under the radar.
How did it get there in the first place? Adequate wondered. It was highly improbable that the Flood could have arrived here independently. Yes, Flood spores could spread on meteors and comets, as well as derelict space equipment hurtling around the stars.
(Halo Fractures, Defender of the Storm)
In one short story, "Defender of the Storm", the Forerunner space station of Seclusion had pods filled with microscopic lifeforms that broke down biological wastes from the residents.
Worst of all, they had collectively decided the dirtiest assignment on the station should again fall to him: gathering up packs of the occupants’ waste for delivery to the digester units, one located at the end of each vane. Microorganisms inside the units broke down the foul matter to generate power, while releasing unwanted gases into the atmosphere.
(Halo Fractures, Defender of the Storm)
It was suggested that these pods were secretly tainted with Flood spores.
“Yes. The infestation likely began in the replacement digester units just installed by the service team.”
“The apparatus that breaks down waste. That’s why the outbreak started on the tips of the vanes.”
“Correct. They bring in fresh pods of microorganisms annually. Flood spores must have been mixed in with them and been awakened. ...
(Halo Fractures, Defender of the Storm)
The Ancilla further commented on the likelihood that Flood spores feasted on the microorganisms as well as the body wastes brought to those pods to further their growth.
"... The malleable seals would have given them a means of escape. They must have infected several of our sentries, taking them directly to combat forms—and their bodies gave rise to the infection forms we now see. I also suspect the Flood is drawing on the biomass in the digester pods to create an environment that might exponentially increase the rate and severity of infestation.”
(Halo Fractures, Defender of the Storm)
So spores eats everything... even shit or the soil, and unless you actively keep track of every surfaces and every hidden spaces, you're bound to miss pockets of infestation caused by spores.
This is perhaps Flood spore's biggest advatange. The spores' reproduction and propagation processes are extremely efficient, even by Flood standard.
I'll be using the Blisters mentioned above as my examples.
According to official depictions, we can see that the hosts who were turned into Blisters are completely broken down and molded into large egg-shaped entities.
This is why I call it efficient, as there is no biomass that was left out or wasted. Spores eat everything and transform what they eat into more of themselves, but it doesn't end there.
As purpose-built forms, Blisters are created to produce more Flood creatures, ranging from simple Pod Infectors, to more complex Pure forms, and, you guess it, more Flood spores.
Blisters:
Non-sapient animals and mangled corpses deemed unfit for being harnessed into larger Combat forms are seeded with Flood cells and quickly transformed into sacs filled with Infection forms and membranes that function as incubation chambers for the development of spores.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2022, p.407)
For those instances where spores do turn their victims into Combat forms, one similarity remains.
Combat Form:
Combat Forms are covered in spore-filled polyps and much of their internal organs are in the process of being consumed and replaced with FSC accretions that function as support lattices, protecting a sickly green liquid that contains Flood spores in suspension.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.408)
Combat forms additionally operate as mobile incubators and gestate spores, though they may produce a lower quantity. After all, unlike Blisters which are hosts whose entire body mass is transformed into a single-purposed and stationary pseudo-organ, Combat forms still need body parts for mobility, attack, and handling of salvaged equipment and technology.
Do be noted that this really isn't a new lore. It has been this case since the first game.
Guilty Spark: "The mutated host then produces spores that can pass the Flood to others. It is insidious and elegant. As long as any hosts remain, the Flood is virulent."
(Halo: Combat Evolved, Level The Library)
The fact that Combat forms spawn spores means that any physical harms inflicted on them...
Combat Form:
Ironically, damages incurred by this form scatters small chunks of infected flesh and distribute it in the environment, aiding the Flood in spreading its influence.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2022, p.408)
... would inadvertently distribute fatally virulent substances everywhere.
And this trait isn't unique to Combat forms. Pod Infectors are stated by Guilty Spark to also carry spores, which I mentioned above.
Pure forms which are the products of masses of Flood Super Cells morphed into biological war machines would carry spores inside them as well. For example, we see the Spawner forms constantly emit clouds of spores from the holes on their back.
It's also stated that the Gravemind can create a huge quantity of spores by itself.
The Gravemind's tentacled body produces billions of Flood spores.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2012, p.169)
Now the next and my final point.
I am now looking from a broader perspective — by combining all the characteristics discussed so far and tying them into the discussion about the Flood's modus operandi.
So, we know spores can spread and infest stealthily. We know spores can operate for a long duration of time. We know spores can consume practically anything organic. We know spores can create constructs to create more sproes (Blisters, Combat forms).
In fact, tiny spores can evolve into living Flood creatures...
The Gravemind:
The Flood is the ultimate parasite. It's able to use any sentient being as food, and those infected by the Flood stand no chance. Infection is a gradual process, whereby an Infection Form, grown from a tiny spore, bonds the victim to the Flood's central intelligence and slowly consumes the contents of the host creature's mind.
(Halo, Encyclopedia 2011, p.20)
All these traits combined make spores the integral aspect of the parasite's expansion and conquest.
To put it this way: Flood spores are products of the Flood infestation, and at the same time, they represent the parasite's ... "means of production".
The phenomenon of "Blightlands" best exemplify this.
Blightland:
For its part, the Flood will seek to adjust local environmental factors in its favor immediately after reaching the Coordinated stage. If not stopped, Blightlands are the result of uncontained Flood expansion: Areas around established hives filled with FSC growth and Spore bodies, which harvested the vitality of the soil, soak up solar energy, and consume all native lives within its boundaries.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2022, p.413)
Notice that the passage said "around" the hives?
In regards to Flood infestations, the parasites don't just build hives, which are either repurposed buildings or completely made out of pure biomass, but they also set up the fundations and infrastructures by seeding spores and other bioforms to the surrounding regions.
Basically, the Blightlands are Flood-controlled regions where spores and other growth gathered "resources", from lifeforms and latent energy alike, and the hives are the buildings and bases within the regions.
Blightlands also serve as foundations for future Flood structures and hives to build on top of. We've seen this at the start of the outbreak on High Charity, numerous disparate Flood growth of varying sizes appeared in the corridors and on walls. They continued to fester until they formed into a new hive that blanketed every surface areas there was.
There's more, but before I talk about that, there's an intriguing quote from the encyclopedia:
Hives:
The Flood's only desire is to expand and corrupt. Once enough biomass is available, the parasite can establish lairs for defense and the growth of specialized forms. ... These tumorous blights are the most obvious targets for attack and cleansing, but they are simply a sympton of Flood infestation, not its causes. The Forerunners recognized this distinction far too late, after countless sterilization missions resulted in empty victories.
(Halo Encyclopedia 2022, p.404)
Interestingly, destroying the hives wouldn't necessarily deliver the critical blow, and I think Flood spores' various attributes contribute to this phenomena.
We have concluded that Flood spores are incredibly common: All types of Flood forms carry and disperse spores either voluntarily or by outside factors (i.e. combat damage). This makes it easy for the Flood to cause environmental corruption over a large area, which will create Blightlands.
We also have concluded that spores are fruitful "building tools". When a spore land on an environment of ample bio-organic materials, they can feast on all the resources and convert them into Flood forms or structures, which eventually become new hives; it can be even described as "self-replicating".
This makes the Flood stand out from other factions in Halo. When the issue regarding manufacturing comes to mind, other races — other the Forerunners, are reliant on specialized instruments or facilities to process and refine raw substances and factories to fabricate products.
The Flood can do that with just their most basic vectors that all known Flood forms carry and generate; hives simply do things more efficiently and on a muuch larger scale.
The spores allow the parasite's "industry" to be decentralized, and the expansion wouldn't be crippled when the birthing hive is destroyed. Given enough time, another hive can arise from the surrounding Blightland.

TLDR

Pod Infectors possess superior mobility and actual weaponry. Their speed and ferocity make them suitable for building up an army, and their rudimentary intelligence makes them much better at managing a fighting force.
Spores are adept at facilitating a comprehensive and expanding network of infrastructure, which they can do without the enemy's notice. Spores may work slower, but their subtlety and pervasiveness make them extremely dangerous threats, especially when their infestation goes unnoticed or uncontained for too long.

2024.06.09 17:14 CompetitorDog Internship in AI/ML at Accenture vs Small Product Company where should I go?

Hi,
I am currently interning with a small product company, and now they want me to stay till my graduation (end of the year) and then potentially (most likely) convert into FT.
I have an offer from Accenture, and when we started interviewing I said that I am only interested in positions that will last till my graduation with no gaps, and that have the conversion option. They said this is what they are looking for.
Basically I am currently Gen AI intern with a lot of SWE work, and from the interviews with Accenture, this is exactly what I should expect there as well (from their words). I am happy with that option.
The pay is marginally higher at Accenture, and also my current company is not well ranked on Glassdoor and places like that for a lower pay and bad wlb.
I wouldn't say that so far I've experienced that severely, my manager can casually text me during the weekends, but for the most part right now it's rather no work to do, and I have to improvise, to keep myself busy. The pay is somewhat below the market for the role, and I had a better offer, but the location was worse, so I stayed.
Ultimately, I would love to get a good name on my resume now, and potentially even stick with the company for couple years after graduation. And I understand that my current company is not very appealing in this aspect.
Accenture is a good name AFAIK, they pay better but this is a consultancy where you are just a number... This is a Gen AI role, and I might be dumb for not interpreting that well, but to me a consultancy is like grinding through a ton of excel sheets and writing reports (please correct me if I am wrong). If this is possible that would have to review other's people code to tell if they manipulate pandas or sql well - then I am 100% out.
It might be my skewed perception, but at the current company (given that it is pretty small) I feel somewhat valued, because I really make some positive impact. And this is important because I need sponsorship, and you are safer in this regard when you have connections, while in the giant like Accenture I will be just a number, which can be replaced with local talent...

You didn't choose who loves you, you don't choose who hates you, you don't choose who to love, you don't choose who to hate, you don't choose the code of morality, you don't choose to have wars, you don't choose to have peace. You didn't choose to be on this planet specifically, orbiting this sun, in this solar system, in this galaxy, in this universe, obeying these laws of physics.Everything that happens in the present has happened because of past events, and on the same principle, the future is already decided for us because of the same past. Your whole life is nothing but a "movie" you watch from your own body. A very limited point of view, and a very short movie (even though it feels like alot), relatively to the scales of time of the universe's existence. Your role is already "scripted." Even the fact that I'm writing this and that you are reading it is just part of the chain of events ruled by the principle of causality. Even if it will have an impact on you or not, it was already decided long long long time ago, infact, it was decided from the first moments after the start of the chain of events which will end in nothing. From nothing, to something, to nothing again. Everything that is "good" in our life can be traced to or summed up as some physical need of the body. We work in one job that other people need, to get money, so we can get from other people's work what we need. And what we need is to eat, drink, sleep, "piss", "shit", and multiply. If you do that successfully, you have other needs and desires to fulfill; otherwise, you'll experience boredom and a sense of lack of meaning. Therefore people paint, travel, dance, play games, create music, read, watch movies, have hobbies or do some other activities we do "with the body for the body." When fulfilling all these needs and desires are not enough, people tend to have the desire to create more humans, and those who choose to create another person are therefore deciding for the created person that the value of the "good" things (which are just material physical needs forced upon us) is more valued than the "bad" things that can happen (which are also forced upon us) like crimes, wars, diseases, injuries, anxiety, depression, sadness, rape, murder, race discrimination, theft, slavery, heat, cold, hunger, thirst, tiredness, nightmares, boredom, hate, confusion, old age, pains, memtal amd physical suffering and so on and so on. As I said earlier, because of the principle of causality, each proportion of this "good" and "bad" in one's life is already decided ahead of one's birth, and the sense of agency and free will are nothing but a perception from the inside of our body. This perception of free will itself is a cause of a lot of harm to many people because we don't choose anything, but we do give all the credit and assign all the blame for people's actions they are not choosing.Another tragic fact about the universe and existence is that everything that is "good" for somebody is bad for somebody else. For example, you enjoy your steak, which means some cow lived and died for it. Or you enjoy some vegetable or fruit, so it comes from a field that used to be a habitat for some other animals, and people have to pick it for you in hard conditions. You enjoy a book, some tree and habitat was taken down for it. You enjoy the roads, somebody had to pave them, and so on and so on. Every animal existence, humans included, are living at the expense of other animals or even humans. If it is true that all we do is serve our bodily needs, then there is no other way but to say that: The thing we call life is nothing but slavery to our body. The saddest thing in my own opinion is that you don't choose when you'll die and how. Even if you want to die as much as one can, you'll face challenges and moral dilemmas and all your natural instincts that evolved through millions of years of successful reproduction will kick in to prevent you from the risks of causing yourself harm. Also, the process itself is a cause of suffering most of the time and is very scary to us by nature. If you want to bring another soul to existence because you want company, it's selfish. If you want them to fight your wars, it's selfish. If you want them to fulfill your dreams, it's selfish. If you want them to help you in old age, it's selfish. If you want them to take care of your wealth or businesses when you are gone, it's selfish. If you want to create a legacy, it's selfish. If you want to change the world, your world, it's selfish. If you want to serve your god, it's selfish. If you want to serve humanity, which you decided should be protected by your morals, it's selfish. There is no such thing as an unselfish act because every act is done to gain some good for ourselves in some way or another, including having kids. No matter what the reason was, the reason is still, at its core, a selfish one because the parents benefit from this birth in some way or another. To conclude: Existence is bad. Creating other people is selfish. Don't create other people. I'm open to a civilized discussion.

The Untold Story of the Head of St. John the Baptist
https://preview.redd.it/ug8cv1d5pj5d1.png?width=327&format=png&auto=webp&s=d7474c5779c4af5eb89bcb0a56d892d7aee93367
Holy Scripture tells us that after St. John the Baptist was beheaded, the impious Herodias forbade the prophet’s head to be buried together with his body. Instead, she desecrated the honorable head and buried it near her palace. The saint’s disciples had secretly taken their teacher’s body and buried it. The wife of King Herod’s steward knew where Herodias had buried St. John’s head, and she decided to rebury it on the Mount of Olives, on one of Herod’s estates.[1]
When word reached the royal palace about Jesus’ preaching and miracles, Herod went with his wife Herodias to see if John the Baptist’s head was still in the place they had left it. When they did not find it there, they began to think that Jesus Christ was John the Baptist resurrected. The Gospels witness to this error of theirs (cf. Mt. 14:2).
Jerusalem. The First Uncovering of the Head of St. John the Baptist.
May years later, during the reign of Equal-to-the-Apostles Emperor Constantine, his mother, St. Helen, began restoring the holy places of Jerusalem. Many pilgrims streamed into Jerusalem, amongst whom where two monks from the East, wishing to venerate the Lord’s Honorable Cross and Holy Sepulcher. St. John the Baptist entrusted these two pilgrims to discover his head. We only know that he appeared to them in a dream; and that after finding the head in the place he showed them, they decided to return to their native city. However, God’s will determined otherwise. Along the road, they met a poor potter from the Syrian town of Emesa (modern-day Homs), whose poverty had forced him to seek work in a neighboring country. Having found a co-traveler, the monks either out of laziness or carelessness entrusted him with carrying the sack containing the relic. As he was carrying it, St. John the Baptist appeared to him and told him to forget the careless monks and run away from them, taking the sack they had given him.
For the sake of the precious head of St. John the Baptist, the Lord blessed the potter’s house with an abundance of goods. The potter lived his whole life remembering his Benefactor, giving alms generously. Not long before his death he gave the precious head to his sister, commanding her to pass it on to other God-fearing, virtuous Christians.
The saint’s head was passed along from one person to the next, and came into the hands of one Hieromonk Eustacius, who sided with the Arian heresy. Sick people who came to him received healing, not knowing that it was due not to Eustacius’s false piety, but to the grace coming from the hidden head. Soon Eustacius’s ruse was exposed, and he was banished from Emesa. A monastery grew around the cave where the hieromonk had lived and in which the head of St. John the Baptist was buried.
Emesa and Constantinople. The Second and Third Finding of the Precious Head.
After many years, the head of St. John the Baptist was uncovered a second time. We know about this from a description by Archimandrite Marcellus of the monastery in Emesa, as well as from the life of St. Matrona (†492, commemorated November 9/22), written by St. Simeon Metraphrastes. According to the first description, the head was discovered on February 18, 452. A week later, Bishop Uranius of Emesa established its veneration, and on February 26 of the same year, it was translated to the newly-built church dedicated to St. John. These events are celebrated on February 24/March 8, along with the commemoration of the First Finding of the Precious Head.
After some time, the head of St. John the Forerunner was translated to Constantinople, where it was located up to the time of the iconoclasts. Pious Christians who left Constantinople secretly took the head of St. John the Baptist with them, and then hid it in Comana (near Sukhumi, Abkhazia), the city where St. John Chrysostom died in exile (407). After the Seventh Ecumenical Council (787), which reestablished the veneration of icons, the head of St. John the Baptist was returned to the Byzantine capital in around the year 850. The Church commemorates this event on May 25/June 7 as the Third Finding of the Precious Head of St. John the Baptist.
The Fourth Crusade and travel to the West.
Ordinarily, the Orthodox history of the finding of the head of St. John the Baptist ends with the Third Finding. This is due to the fact that its later history is bound up with the Catholic West. If we look at the Lives of the Saints written in the Menaon of St. Dimitry of Rostov, we find a citation in small print, often overlooked by readers, at the end of story of the Finding of the Forerunner’s Head. However, after unexpectedly discovering the head of St. John the Baptist in France and then returning home to Russia, this citation became a real revelation for us. It is this next “finding” of the head of St. John the Baptist that we would like to write about below.
Thus, we read in this citation that after 850, part of the head of St. John the Baptist came to be located in the Podromos Monastery in Petra, and the other part in the Forerunner Monastery of the Studion. The upper part of the head was seen there by the pilgrim Antony in 1200. Nevertheless, in 1204 it was taken by crusaders to Amiens in northern France. Besides that, the citation shows three other locations of pieces of the head: the Athonite monastery Dionysiou, the Ugro-Wallachian monastery of Kalua, and the Church of Pope Sylvester in Rome, where a piece was taken from Amiens.
The face of St. John the Baptist, in the Cathedral of Our Lady in Amiens.
The history of the Baptist’s head’s appearance in France differs little from the history of many other great Christian relics.
On April 13, 1204, during the Fourth Crusade, an army of knights from Western Europe seized the capital of the Roman Empire—Constantinople. The city was looted and decimated.
As Western tradition has it, Canon Wallon de Sarton from Picquigny found a case in one of the ruined palaces that contained a silver plate. On it, under a glass covering, were the hidden remains of a human face, missing only the lower jaw. Over the left brow could be seen a small perforation, most likely made by a knife strike.
On the plate the canon discovered an inscription in Greek confirming that it contained the relics of St. John the Forerunner. Furthermore, the perforation over the brow corresponded with the event recorded by St. Jerome. According to his testimony, Heriodias in a fit of rage struck a blow with a knife to the saint’s severed head.
The Cathedral of Our Lady in Amiens (Notre Dame d’Amiens).
Wallon de Sarton decided to take the head of the Holy Forerunner to Picardy, in northern France.
On December 17, 1206, on the third Sunday of the Nativity fast, the Catholic bishop of the town of Amiens, Richard de Gerberoy, solemnly met the relics of St. John the Baptist at the town gates. Probably the bishop was sure of the relic’s authenticity—something easier to ascertain in those days, as they say, “by fresh tracks”. The veneration of the head of St. John the Baptist in Amiens and all of Picardy begins from that time.
In 1220, the bishop of Amiens placed the cornerstone in the foundation of a new cathedral, which after many reconstructions would later become the most magnificent Gothic edifice in Europe. The facial section of the head of the St. John the Baptist, the city’s major holy shrine, was transferred to this new cathedral.
Eventually, Amiens became a place of pilgrimage not only for simple Christians, but also for French kings, princes and princesses. The first King to come and venerate the head in 1264 was Louis IX, called “the Holy”. After him came his son, Phillip III the Brave, then Charles VI, and Charles VII, who donated large sums for the relic’s adornment.
The Church of the Forerunner in Rome (Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano).
In 1604, Pope Clement VIII of Rome, wishing to enrich the Church of the Forerunner in Rome (Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano), requested a piece of St. John’s relics from the canon of Amiens.
Saving of the head from the outrages of the French revolution.
After the revolution in 1789, inventory was made of all Church property and relics were confiscated.
The reliquary containing the head of the Holy Forerunner remained in the cathedral until November, 1793, when it was demanded by representatives of the Convention. They stripped from it everything of material value, and ordered that the relics be taken to the cemetery. However, the revolutionary command was not fulfilled. After they left the city, the city’s mayor, Louis-Alexandre Lescouve, secretly and under fear of death returned to the reliquary and took the relics to his own home. Thus was the sacred shrine preserved. Several years later, the former mayor gave the relic to Abbot Lejeune. Once the revolutionary persecutions had ended, the head of St. John the Baptist was returned to the cathedral in Amiens in 1816, where it remains to this day.
At the end of the nineteenth century, historical science, not without the participation of ecclesiastical figures, determined that there had been many instances of false relics during the Middle Ages. In an atmosphere of general mistrust, veneration of the Amiens shrine eventually began to wane.
The head of St. John the Baptist today.
In the mid-twentieth century, specifically in 1958, there was a spark of renewed interest in the relics of St. John the Baptist. The rector of the Amiens cathedral reported to the ecclesiastical authorities that in eastern France, in Verdun, was what was presumed to be the lower jaw of St. John the Baptist. He wanted to rejoin the two parts. With the blessing of the bishop of Amiens, a commission of qualified medical experts was formed.
The relics were investigated for several months, in two stages—the first in Amiens, the second in Paris. After the work was completed, the commission’s findings were gathered into a document, signed by the members. In the first chapter of the document, which covers the research performed in Amiens, the following conclusions were made:
  • Comparison of the subject called “of Verdun” with the subject from Amiens disclosed their anatomical differences, confirming without a doubt that they are of differing origins.
  • From the chronological point of view, the subject called “of Verdun” is not as ancient as the Amiens subject. It is similar in form and weight to “bones of the Middle Ages”.
  • The facial part, called the head of St. John the Baptist from Amiens, is a very ancient object—more ancient than “bones of the Middle Ages”. On the other hand, it is younger than human bones of the Mesolithic era—which allows us to date it at between 500 BC and 1000 AD.
  • The man’s age could not be determined precisely due to the absence of teeth. But based upon the fact that the alveolar [tooth] sockets are fully developed and are slightly worn at the edges, it can be supposed that the man was an adult (between 25 and 40 years old).
  • General characteristics of the head in the form of inadequate elements can be determined, but with great permissible variation. The facial type is Caucasoid (that is, not Negroid or Mongoloid). The small measurements of the subject from Amiens and the development of the lower eye sockets lead to the supposition that it could correspond to a racial type called “Mediterranean” (a type to which modern Bedouins belong).
Here ends the modern chronicle of the head of St. John the Baptist. Unfortunately, few of the faithful have recourse to the help of such a lamp of grace as the precious head of St. John the Baptist, “the first among martyrs in grace”.[2] Many Orthodox Christians come to France, but not all of them know how many holy relics there are still on French soil despite the outrages committed against them during the French Revolution and subsequent forgetfulness of France’s Christian past.
Joyfully, during recent years more and more Orthodox pilgrims are travelling to Amiens. Now, with the help of the Pilgrimage Center of the diocese of Korsun (of the Moscow Patriarchate, based in Paris) Orthodox molebens and even Divine Liturgies are now being served before the head of St. John the Baptist.

2024.06.09 14:05 ArmyOfMemories The ADL is an anti-Palestinian hate group that promotes 'replacement theory' in Israel while condemning it in America.

Thesis

Sources:

Elaboration

The ADL promotes 'replacement theory' in Israel, while condemning it in America.
Awhile back, the ADL put out a hasbara handbook - a guide to advocating for Israel.
In the handbook, on pages 59-60, the ADL espouses views that are word-for-word taken from 'replacement theory'.
Excerpt:
A bi-national state, in principle and in practice, would mean the ideological end of the Jewish State of Israel and lead to the forsaking of Jewish nationalism and identity, along with its special status as a refuge for Jews fleeing persecution.
Furthermore, bi-nationalism is unworkable given current realities and historic animosities. With historically high birth rates among the Palestinians, and a possible influx of Palestinian refugees and their descendants now living around the world, Jews would quickly be a minority within a bi-national state, thus likely ending any semblance of equal representation and protections. In this situation, the Jewish population would be increasingly politically – and potentially physically – vulnerable.
It is unrealistic and unacceptable to expect the State of Israel to voluntarily subvert its own sovereign existence and nationalist identity and become a vulnerable minority within what was once its own territory.
  • Alarmism about 'birth rates' = ✅
  • Alarmism about immigration = ✅
  • Alarmism about the demographic majority becoming a minority and losing its privileged status = ✅
  • Equating the privilege of being a demographic majority with 'sovereign existence' (which in-turn negates the existence and/or concerns, agency, progress, etc. of the Out-group) = ✅
All of this is typical 'replacement theory' talking-points.
A commentator on Twitter points out that the ADL uses the same rhetoric as American and European ultra-nationalists, who fear-monger about PoC and immigrants.

The interplay between right-wing nationalism & support for Israel

The ADL's primary purpose now is to defend Israel's apartheid regime.
Note how Rep. Stefanik is pictured in the ADL tweet. She is the one leading the charge right now with these public antisemitism inquisitions of college administrators.
Right-wing nationalists support Israel because they want to emulate Israel's policies towards Palestinians (as a stand-in for immigrants, PoC, leftists, etc.).
A study on European antisemitism found that xenophobes (who rated higher in antisemitism) tend to support Israel due to its immigration policies. Whereas those critical of Israeli policy were less xenophobic & less antisemitic.
Since Zionism is a form of cult-like nationalism, it's no surprise that the ADL would adopt 'replacement theory' talking-points when discussing their concerns about the political agency of the Jewish demographic majority in Israel.
In order to maintain that demographic majority, Israel uses discriminatory legislation & enormous State violence.
A lot of Zionists obfuscate what Zionism means now (for all practical purposes) by signaling some support/empathy for Palestinians. So the primary question one must ask, is whether you support a Jewish demographic majority in Israel.
If the answer is 'yes' - then you're justifying massive discrimination & violence against the Palestinian out-group. It no longer matters what games one plays with the 'definition' of 'Zionist'.
Get straight to the functional point. Are you morally consistent?

The ADL, Mike Pompeo, and the Jewish National Fund

Peter Beinart, in a discussion with FMEP's Lara Friedman & political strategist Rania Batrice, talks about how the ADL supports discriminatory policies in Israel that it would never support in America.
Peter notes that Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, has to 'code-switch' when advocating for Israel, for this very reason. Whereas, someone like Mike Pompeo, who is also a cultish nationalist, is more forthcoming in what he wants for America (a Christian nationalist State).
For Pompeo, it's perfectly fine to support an analog to the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in America (ie a hypothetical Christian National Fund; an organization that would support land access/development for Christians only). Greenblatt would lose his mind if a CNF existed in America - but he won't propose abolishing the JNF in Israel.
In Israel, the government controls 93 percent of the land¹ - directly or indirectly through quasi-governmental bodies like the Development Authority (DA) or the JNF. But all of it is administered by a governmental body, the Israel Land Administration (ILA).
The JNF's mandate is to develop land folease land to Israeli Jews, so 13% of the land in Israel excludes Palestinian citizens of Israel & everyone else. Thus, when the ILA tenders a lease owned by the JNF, they are directly complicit in "outright discrimination".²

  2. Human Rights Watch - Off the Map: Land and Housing Rights Violations in Israel’s Unrecognized Bedouin Villages
  3. Human Rights Watch - Israel: Discriminatory Land Policies Hem in Palestinians
Israeli historian at Tel Aviv University, Prof. Gadi Algazi, explains how the Ben-Gurion utilized the 1949 Absentee Property Law to facilitate the JNF acquiring stolen Palestinian land.
Ben-Gurion circumvented any future international legal intervention by 'selling' (absolutely illegally) the land entrusted to the custodians (Ben-Gurion appointed Israel the custodians of the stolen Palestinian land following the 48' War) to the JNF so that Israel, in the case of an international debate, could say 'sorry, it's not in my hands anymore'. Within days, about a million dunams (1M dunams = about 250K acres) of land were sold for a price well below their value to the JNF. Another million would be sold later on.
Then-Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion appointed the Israeli government as custodian of the land and then sold 250,000 acres to the Jewish National Fund. The problem of the Arab refugees was forgotten in the main despite the United Nations trying to resolve it. Ben-Gurion thought that time would eventually solve the problem. The abandoned village land and houses were given to Israeli soldiers so Arabs couldn’t return.
Some speculate the JNF never even paid for the land. Instead, the Israeli government agreed to subsidize the purchase in exchange for assurances the land would be set aside for Jewish settlement.
But the Israeli cabinet ordered the JNF to stop all efforts at buying land from Palestinians directly, and the men returned to Israel.144 Ben Gurion told Weitz and Danin in December 1948 that “The JNF would buy land only from the State. There was no need to buy land from Arabs.”145
[...]One month after Ben Gurion told Weitz that the JNF should buy land only from the state, the two sides finally concluded a major deal by which the JNF would purchase a huge amount of refugee land in January 1949. Despite his mistrust of sharing power with the JNF, Ben Gurion had long wanted to sell captured Palestinian land to the JNF. In fact as early as May 13, 1948, the day before he publicly read Israel’s declaration of independence, Ben Gurion offered to sell a massive 2 million dunums of land to the JNF for £P0.5/dunum. He was trying to sell land he did not yet control to raise money for arms.
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 61-63). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
The deal involving the so-called “second million” dunums was finalized on October 4, 1950, and involved the transfer of an additional 1,271,734 dunums by the Custodian of Absentee Property on behalf of the Development Authority to the JNF, 99.8 percent of which (1,271,480 dunums) was rural land. Granott later placed the amount at 1,278,200 dunums. The amount of £I66 million was to be paid to the government over a ten year period. Some sources indicate that the JNF was actually to turn the money over to the Jewish Agency on the government’s behalf; the amount then would be considered a loan by the government to the JA. Others claim that the JNF never actually paid the amounts it owed under the two deals.163
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 65-66). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
Thus, Israel confiscated Palestinian land and held it in trust - only to sell it to an organization that would only allow the land to be used (sold/leased/etc.) by Jewish people only.
The JNF faced no such obstacles and was free to discriminate against Arabs in favor of Jews. Its charter mandated that all land that it purchased thereafter would be inalienable, to be held by the JNF on behalf of the Jewish people in perpetuity. Because the JNF could not sell land it acquired, it leased land to Jewish settlements and individual Jews on the condition that it not be re-let to non-Jews and that only Jewish labor be used on the land—the policy of “Hebrew labor” [Heb.: ‘avoda ‘ivrit]. Thus as a nongovernmental organization free to manage its own land on an exclusivist basis within the new state, the JNF argued for its control of refugee land on this ideological base: if the JNF obtains the land, it will be the best way to guarantee that it is used for Jewish settlement only. This attitude was expressed by a JNF official at the 23rd congress of the World Zionist Organization held in 1951, the fiftieth anniversary of the JNF’s establishment, who stated that the JNF “will redeem the lands and will turn them over to the Jewish people—to the people and not the state, which in the current composition of population cannot be an adequate guarantor of Jewish ownership” [emphases in the original].
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 59-60). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
It's important to note that all throughout the history of the JNF, its officials openly talked about dispossessing the Palestinian people and taking their land.
In Records of Dispossession, Michael Fischback writes about the culpability of Zionist organizations in the expulsion of the Palestinian people - and singles out one important figure, Yosef Weitz of the JNF.
The question of to what degree Jewish authorities deliberately expelled Palestinians is a hotly contested one.13 For many historians of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the issue comes down to whether Zionist authorities ordered the deliberate expulsion of the Palestinians according to a master plan of ethnic cleansing. It is beyond dispute that some expulsions occurred as it is that, even before the fighting began, various figures in the Zionist movement were actively investigating the idea of what they euphemistically called “transferring” the Palestinians out of the country. One such person was Yosef Weitz of the Jewish National Fund [Heb.: Keren Kayemet le-Yisra’el]. Weitz was born in Russia in 1890 and immigrated to Ottoman Palestine in 1908. He began working for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) in 1918. The JNF was established by the World Zionist Organization [Heb.: ha-Histadrut ha-Tsiyonit; later, ha-Histadrut ha-Tsiyonit ha-‘Olamit] in December 1901 to acquire land in Ottoman Syria for the establishment of a Jewish state. It acquired its first land in Palestine in 1904. In 1907, the JNF was incorporated in London as the Jewish National Fund, Ltd., although its offices were located on the continent and moved several times over the decades. Starting in 1932, Weitz had risen to serve as the director of the JNF’s Land Development Division. He was also involved in the establishment of the Histadrut, the all-encompassing Zionist labor federation.
  • Fischbach, Michael. Records of Dispossession (Institute for Palestine Studies Series) (pp. 4-5). Columbia University Press. Kindle Edition.
Weitz countered with a hard-line vision of transferring the Palestinians completely out of the country. He detailed his ideas in his diary:
It should be clear to us that there is no room in Palestine for these two peoples. No “development” will bring us to our goal of independent nationhood in this small country. Without the Arabs, the land will become wide and spacious for us; with the Arabs, the land will remain sparse and cramped . . . . The only solution is Palestine, at least Western Palestine [i.e., Palestine without Transjordan], without Arabs. There is no room here for compromises!14
Weitz and Lifshits agreed to try to work toward this goal. In fact, in 1948 they served together on a committee that investigated transfer (see below). When the fighting broke out in 1948, Weitz believed that it provided a golden opportunity to effect such a transfer. By the spring of that year, thousands of Palestinians were already in flight and leaving behind large stretches of land. For Weitz, the proper course of action was simple: prevent their return and take over their land. On May 20, 1948, Weitz noted in his diary that the refugee flight would create “a complete territorial revolution . . . . The State is destined to expropriate . . . their land.” 15 Once the fighting was underway, he would move to realize this.

The ADL's history of anti-Palestine activism: the spying case

Historically, the ADL surveilled Arab-American and Jewish-American activists who were sympathetic to the Palestinian struggle.
Excerpt, from a JTA (2002) article on the ADL spying on anti-Zionist Jewish-Americans:
Both sides had filed appeals in July when a San Francisco Superior Court judge dismissed the cases of plaintiffs Anne Poirier and Steven Zeltzer, but not that of Jefferey Blankfort, who claimed the ADL obtained his Social Security number "for nonjournalistic purposes." Because the settlement took place before the appeals came though, the ADL agreed to compensate all three.
Blankfort explains the court case:
In earlier decades, the ADL put out dossiers on pro-Palestine activism with titles like, 'Target U.S.A: The Arab Propaganda Offensive' (1975).
News article coverage from that time, reporting on then-director of the ADL Jerome Bakst's speaking engagement in town.
In the present, the ADL still keeps tabs on pro-Palestine activism & activists like Mohammed El-Kurd.
With so many more Zionist groups now, the ADL no longer has to be a one-stop-shop for all things Israel advocacy. They no longer need to spy on Americans when plenty of other organizations do. They no longer have to profile people, because other Zionist groups like Canary Mission do.
So while the ADL isn't outright spying people as it did years ago, it's not out of some moral shift. It's because they no longer have to.

2024.06.09 13:03 tunc420 Should I Buy?

Hi guys just posting to get some advice on whether to buy this house or not. Just for some context I am M(24) and my partner is F(24), combined income is around 200k . I have always been wanting to get into the property market as soon as I could and my partner wasn’t too keen to start with but she knows it’s to help us in the future.
We recently found a place 3 bedroom 2 bathroom and in DGZ and it’s CV is 1.8mil but we some how negotiated for 1.025mil (10% deposit). Seems like a deal too good to be true, right? Well it is.. the thing is this house is a plaster home made in the shitty housing code era (mid 1990s).
So we have already signed a conditional offer subject to finance, inspection and all the other standard clauses. We will be doing a building inspection as soon as the bank approves for finance. We have asked for 15 working days for all finance, building inspection etc etc
My worry is will the building inspection show all the risks and issues with the house? and if it comes out good isn’t there still a huge risk of something going bad down the line?
If I’m being honest I’m not even interested in the house it’s more the land value that entices me to buy. I’m hoping to build at least 400-500k in equity in the next couple of years and invest it into a business.
Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on plaster homes and how much you can expect to pay once shit hits the fan or how to extend the life of this house without doing any major fixes I.e. reclads etc . Would love to hear if anyone has owned one or is currently living in one and how they maintain their property
Because I am still young I think it’s ok for me to take such a huge risk because I still have a long way to go and this opportunity isn’t going to come again. Let me know your thoughts and any advice you may have.
Thanks again :)

Elon Musk could leave if $56 billion pay package not approved, shareholders warned
Tesla boss Elon Musk may be forced to quit if shareholders do not approve his $56 billion pay package under a controversial new scheme that has sent ripples through investor communities and industry players. Growing apprehension is now being experienced as the rumor of the likely approval of the package might clash with much controversy among the upcoming shareholders' meetings over what this would mean for Tesla. This article will outline Musk's pay package, the concerns of shareholders, and the possible implications for Tesla if Musk resigns.
Background to Elon Musk's $56 Billion Pay Package
The $56 billion pay package for Elon Musk is one of the largest in the corporate sector. This compensation plan is performance-based, having been approved in 2018. This means that Musk will only be able to realize the total amount if Tesla achieves a range of tough financial and market value milestones. The plan was aimed at aligning Musk's interests with the interests of the Tesla shareholders so he would be motivated to grow the company.
https://preview.redd.it/xanwcokrxi5d1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e16801c1ee3bee1dd632a9d7d1bdfae6482146af
According to the terms of the package, Musk gains no salary or cash bonuses, making him one of the highest-paid U.S. CEOs. Instead, the only way for Musk to receive any of the compensation is if his company achieves a set of ambitious milestones related to its operations and market value. These goals relate to the various growth of Tesla revenues, adjusted EBITDA, and market capitalization. If all the goals were achieved, Musk would get stock options worth around $56 billion when the plan was passed.
Shareholder Concerns and the Approval Process
As the day of the shareholder meeting draws nearer, there has been concern over Musk's proposed compensation plan. Some shareholders have said that such a pay packet of such a scale is not justifiable given the performance and financial health of the company. Some investors argue that the pay package is too much and could dilute existing shares significantly if Musk achieves all the targets. The approval for the pay package comes from a vote by the Tesla shareholders.
To occur, it requires a majority of votes in favor of the package. The board of directors has recommended approval, citing Musk's critical role in Tesla's success and the need to retain his leadership. Some institutional investors and advisory firms have come out against it, urging shareholders to vote against the package because of its size and potential to hurt shareholder value.
The Potential Effect of Elon Musk's Exit on Tesla
The potential exit of Elon Musk from Tesla would, to a great stretch, have an impact on the company. Quite frankly, he is the CEO but also faces aspired for in Tesla under his visionary leadership and relentlessness. In the face of Musk quitting, considerable faith on the part of investors would be lost, making the share price of Tesla. Moreover, Musk's leaving would tend to disrupt the long-term strategic direction of Tesla.
Being the mastermind behind most of the ambitious projects at Tesla—including developing new models for electric cars, advancing battery technology, and even expanding the business into energy—his absence slows down innovation. It can affect the company's ability to meet long-term targets. The market analysis has it that the uncertainty around Musk would bring higher volatility in his stock.
Investors might take a pessimistic approach to any such news, which dictates that Musk leaves, thereby influencing the stock price. Further, it would be challenging to find another CEO with a similar vision and ability to inspire the same level of dedication from the workforce at Tesla.
Corporate Governance and Executive Compensation
The $56 billion pay package for Elon Musk has once again triggered a debate grounded in the more significant issues related to corporate governance and executive compensation. Indeed, in the past few years, there has been increasing scrutiny of CEO pay packages, especially those that are outstandingly huge or pegged to aggressive performance targets. Critics say such packages can offer a perverted incentive to CEOs, who aim at enjoying the "get rich quick scheme" where they optimize on results today at the expense of tomorrow's value for shareholders.
For Musk, the pay package is designed to link his interests to the shareholders—performance-based compensation. But the sheer magnitude of the package has caused some to wonder if it's over the top and whether such largess sets an appropriate, or in this case, inappropriate precedent for other firms. Corporate governance experts also often call for companies to be judicious in executive pay matters, noting that members of a board of directors should consider thoughtfully whether enormous pay packages could damage company culture, employee motivation, and firm value.
Moreover, they have established a plea for very close monitoring to ensure the targets are formulated such that an individual is not pushed to gamble to attain the spelled incentives.
Tesla's Future and Its Trajectory of Innovation
The future of Tesla is not altered by whether Musk's compensation plan will make the vote or not. The position of Tesla in the electric vehicle market remains sturdy due to the brand and high customer loyalty it has achieved. What has been propelling the growth of Tesla is its commitment to innovation and sustainability, with a promise for new models and advancement in battery technology.
One of the most significant strengths of Tesla is its ability to innovate under changing market conditions. The company is significantly focusing on vertical integration from vehicle manufacturing to energy production and storage and, hence, has an additional competitive advantage. On top of these, Tesla spends a considerable amount on research and development to maintain competitiveness in future technological advancements in the automotive and energy sectors.
The future of Tesla will be pegged on the company's ability to expand its market again. Already, the company has expanded its market entry beyond the USA into Europe and China. Growth must continue in these and other markets to keep growing and ultimately be successful.
Other Notes from Industry Experts on Tesla's Leadership and Strategy
Some industry experts have also weighed in on what will happen with Elon Musk leaving, but more crucially, their musings about his massive pay plan. Many think that Musk's leadership is a grave reason for Tesla's success; they point out personal qualities such as vision, innovation, and an ability to inspire the workforce. Nevertheless, some experts view Tesla as an organization that could do just fine even without Musk at the top.
For this, they refer to the strong management team that envelops the company and the culture of Innovation evident in the company that he has developed. Further, Musk has made sure that Tesla has a strong brand with good products and a loyal customer base. Experts further note what is proper and effective succession planning.
They say that Tesla's board of directors needs to be ready for the case of Musk leaving and to have in place a laid-out plan that would ensure its transition is smooth. This includes potential successors carrying forward Musk's vision, maintaining momentum, and moving the company forward.
Conclusion
The potential turning point in the future of Tesla is now as shareholders are about to vote on the $56 billion pay package for CEO Elon Musk. The decision will hence have far-reaching implications, not only for what happens next between Musk and the company but also for Tesla's place on the map.
With shareholders weighing the pros and cons of this latest compensation plan, they need to look at the potential risks and benefits of keeping Musk on as CEO. Nevertheless, deep in my heart, Tesla is all about innovation and sustainability. Its future will be determined by how well it can adjust to different market conditions, broaden its global activity, and push forward the boundaries of what will be possible in terms of electric vehicles and energy.

Market leader Makemytrip is still loss making, despite having 24% market share and 10 times revenues of Ixigo, indicating there is significant cash burn involved in terms of customer inducement/ customer acquisition cost which is 39% of revenues for Makemytrip.
Hotel & package booking is higher margin business, but Ixigo has just entered the segment in Dec '23.
Ixigo has a good hold in bus segment , which is still underpenetrated, and has higher take rates and contribution margin.
Transactions booked through Ixigo's OTA platforms involving either origin or destination as non-Tier I cities were 94%. Most of the future growth will come from non- Tier I cities, which places Ixigo in favourable spot. Given the growth drivers discussed , OTA industry is expected to grow at 14-15% CAGR.

2024.06.09 11:04 console_fulcrum I almost re-imaged servers that were LIVE - Caused Disruption!

Hey everyone ,
TL:DR - I want to know how much in the wrong vs where the organizational process is to take blame?
I messed up by mistakenly re-imaging severs that were live in a production-1 environment, which disrupted about 700 VMs , and back to stability took 6 hours. I overlooked by not running a ping/sanity check. This made a huge noise and service unavailability upstream
Will I be fired ?
FULL STORY! My company runs Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure at scale , and I'm an Infrastructure engineer here. We run some decently big infrastructure,
What happened ? - in our Demo (production-1) enviornment, there was a cluster of 21 hypervisors running , and serving about 700 VMs , let's call it cluster A
BUT IN MY CASE - 9 WENT DOWN! - SHUT DOWN ALL VMS that couldn't power on due to lack of resources.
What followed next ? - we immediately engaged enterprise support with P1 - started recovery attempt praying that disks would still be intact - THANKFULLY IT WAS - It took 6 hours to safely recover all supervisors and power on all VMs impacted
Things I will admit to - - All I had to do , was fricking ping those hosts, and see if they responded - I did not do this - should've been more attentive to color coding in a sheet of 100s of server tags - maybe yes.
MY QUESTION TO THE COMMUNITY - - How could I have done this better , you don't have to know Nutanix , but it in general? - How much would you blame me for it vs the processes that let me do it in the first place ? - Can I be fired over such an incident and act of negligence? I'm scared.
Please help.

Hey fellow coders,
Python is a powerhouse when it comes to web development, but even the best tools come with their own set of quirks. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, here are some tips, tricks, and solutions for common issues you may face in Python web development.

Tips for Optimizing Web Performance

Handling Common Issues

1. CSRF Token Errors in Django

CSRF token errors are a common issue in Django, especially when dealing with forms. Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve it:

2. Dealing with Circular Imports

Circular imports can create a headache and usually occur when two or more modules depend on each other. Here’s how to solve it:

3. Configuring Static Files in Flask

Managing static files in Flask often causes confusion. Here’s a quick rundown:

Tricks for Speeding Up Development

Interesting Incident in the Python Community

A recent problem sparked discussion in the community when a newly released Django update led to unexpected migrations in models using DecimalField. It caused discrepancies in stored data across databases. The fix involved specifying max_digits and decimal_places explicitly to avoid automated migrations.
python price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10, decimal_places=2)
This incident reminded everyone to review update logs closely before integrating them into existing projects.

Final Thought

These tips and tricks are just the tip of the iceberg. Python web development is dynamic, and there’s always something new to learn or a more elegant solution to discover.

Were the trading halts during DFV's stream a little sus or a complete waste of time? Come code with me, let's code, let's code away
Trading halts from DFV's stream have been meming hard. But are they really what we think they are? This post will get quick and dirty and try to answer that question with a rough estimation using video frames as a replacement for the raw exchange data.
Before we begin, one rule that we all must try to understand is the Limit Up-Limit Down (LULD) rule. More about that can be read here:
https://nasdaqtrader.com/content/MarketRegulation/LULD_FAQ.pdf
Simplified TLDR - Not counting the latter end of power hour, we halt when the price of our beloved stock moves 5% away from the average of all trades over the last 5 minutes.
https://preview.redd.it/a3c2ank9kh5d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=278eec4fdbff8311e6bab6354d0b14b606d33ec5
When trying to do an estimation like this, one's first instinct may be to eyeball the prices on the screen and maybe write down some numbers for calculations. But.. I can't even be trusted with a box of crayons, so how about letting those machines do that work for us.
Like my previous post, the recommended easy way to code along would be using a hosted notebook like Jupyter Lab.

Step 1 - Data Extraction

If have about 800 free MB, 3 hours of computer processing time, and a local environment set up with the necessary libraries (Jupyter lab won't work here), follow along with this step. It's pretty cool the kind of things that can be done with open source applications! If it sounds like too much work, I have uploaded a CSV of the raw extracted data that can get you up to speed to start directly on Step 2.
To do this step you will need to have installed ffmpeg, pytesseract, and OpenCV. You will also need to have the full quality stream (720p 60fps) ripped from YouTube. I'd love to shout out how to do that from the rooftops here, but as a precaution for the sake of our lovely subreddit, I'm going to zip my lips and just say "figure that part out."
Once you have the video, we will use ffmpeg to extract cropped pngs of every single frame. I've already chosen an ideal cropping that minimizes the confusion introduced from text that we are not interested in.
First the Linux command for making a folder called "png" that the frames will go into
mkdir png
Then the ffmpeg command that extracts 182,881 (yea 50 minutes is a LOT of frames) 80 x 30 images around the price ticker area of the video.
ffmpeg -i "Roaring Kitty Live Stream - June 7, 2024-U1prSyyIco0.mp4" -vf "crop=80:30:160:240" png/dfv_%06d.png
The codeblocks will use Python. You can the rest of Step 1 in a notebook (but pytesseract and OpenCV would need to be installed).
Import the necessary libraries
import os import cv2 import pandas as pd import pytesseract
Loop through every still in the png folder using OCR to extract the text to a list. Warning: this step will likely take several hours.
files = sorted(os.listdir("png")) results = [] for file in files: path = os.path.join("png", file) img = cv2.imread(path) text = pytesseract.image_to_string(img) results.append(text)
Saves a csv of the raw extracted text
raw = pd.Series(results) raw.to_csv("price_extraction_raw.csv", index=False)

Step 2 - Data Cleaning

If your continuing from Step 1, you'll probably already have a local environment setup that you feel comfortable working in. If not, just upload the CSV of the raw data from the earlier download link to a hosted notebook and you'll be good to go.
First inside the notebook, run this cell to import the libraries and the CSV with the raw frame data.
import numpy as np import pandas as pd # Loads the csv raw = pd.read_csv("price_extraction_raw.csv").squeeze() # Strips out unintended newline characters. raw=raw.str.replace(r"\n", "", regex=True)
Since we ran the optical recognition over all video frames, there will be some junk in the data. Don't worry though, the structure of the prices will make it very easy to clean up.
# Shows the rows with detected text. raw.dropna()
https://preview.redd.it/nxzdtp8cwh5d1.png?width=289&format=png&auto=webp&s=d11ea0c8b0395d335fe6c4514d8153773e88865c
This small codeblock will take care of the false positives.
# Eliminate any characters that are not numbers or decimals. cleaned = raw.str.replace(r"[^\d\.]", "", regex=True).str.strip().replace("", None) # Clear any rows that have less than 5 characters (two digits, a period, and two decimal places). cleaned = np.where(cleaned.str.len() < 5, None, cleaned)
Since we used the entire video, the index accurately references the current frame number. To make it easier to navigate, we can add additional columns containing the minute, second, and frame number (that starts over every 60 frames).
# Converts the single column Series into a multi-column DataFrame. cleaned = pd.DataFrame(cleaned, columns=["price"]) # Creates the time columns cleaned["m"] = cleaned.index//3600 # 60 frames * 60 seconds per minute cleaned["s"] = (cleaned.index // 60) % 60 cleaned["f"] = (cleaned.index % 3600) % 60
At this point, we are almost done cleaning, but on some frames, the optical recognition accidentally detected a fake decimal at the end.
cleaned[cleaned["price"].str.len() > 5]
https://preview.redd.it/80mjac9zwh5d1.png?width=210&format=png&auto=webp&s=826fdddec734e183fe8724bb6e67980231ebb6ea
If we check those with the video, we can see that they are indeed valid (image is cropped here, but holds true for all), so it is safe to remove the last character here.
# Removes trailing characters when there are more than 5 of them. cleaned["price"] = np.where(cleaned["price"].str.len() > 5, cleaned["price"].str[:5], cleaned["price"]) # Changes the datatype to allow calculations to be made. cleaned["price"] = cleaned["price"].astype(float)
It will also be handy to have each frame indicate if the price reflects that of a trading halt.
# A list of the start and end of every trading halt in video (by price change). halts = [(10802, 19851), # Initial video halt (26933, 45977), # 2nd halt (61488, 80414), # 3rd halt (81325, 100411), # 4th halt (100778, 119680), # 5th halt (136992, 119680), # 6th halt (166473, 178210), # 7th halt ] # Uses the halt frames, to indicate halts in the dataset. cleaned["halted"] = np.where(cleaned["price"].isna(), None, False) # Assumes no unknown values for (start, end) in halts: cleaned["halted"] = np.where((cleaned.index >= start) & (cleaned.index < end), True, cleaned["halted"])
A quick preview showing the frames with indicated halts.
cleaned[cleaned["halted"] == True]
https://preview.redd.it/3usz3cnlyh5d1.png?width=255&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fa94f1e313029b7e568d7c8f4b0cc620a1dc17d

Step 3 - Calculating the bands

At this point, we've done enough to run some basic calculations across all of the frames. The following function will automatically do them for any given specified frame number.
def assess_halt(df, index): # The frame that is exactly 5 minutes before the frame examined. frame_offset = index - (5 * 60 * 60) # Since there will be no volume during a halt, we want to exclude # remove values where a halt is indicated. prices = df["price"].copy() prices = np.where(df["halted"] == True, np.nan, prices) # The price at the requested frame. halt_price = df["price"][index] # the frame right before (to rule out the halt suppressing the actual amount) price_before_halt = df["price"][index-1] # The average of all extractable prices in the five minute window. average = np.nanmean(prices[frame_offset:index]) # If there is insufficient at the specified frame, this ends calculations early. if np.isnan(average) or np.isnan(price_before_halt): return halt_price, price_before_halt, None, None, None, None, None # The count can help gauge robustness of the estimated average. count = np.count_nonzero(~np.isnan(prices[frame_offset:index])) seconds = count / 60 # The estimated bands are calculated by adding and subrtracting 5% from the average. band_low = average - .05 * average band_high = average + .05 * average # Logic to test whether the halt price or the price just before the halt is estimated to be beyond the 5% bands. outside = ((halt_price < band_low) or (halt_price > band_high)) or ((price_before_halt < band_low) or (price_before_halt > band_high)) return halt_price, price_before_halt, average, seconds, band_low, band_high, outside
Using the list of halts earlier, we can conveniently loop through and make some rough estimations.
rows = [] for halt in halts: row = assess_halt(cleaned, halt[0]) rows.append(row) assessment = pd.DataFrame(rows, columns=["halt_price", "price_before_halt", "price_average", "seconds_of_data", "band_low", "band_high", "outside_bands"]) assessment
https://preview.redd.it/hznds6dc7i5d1.png?width=721&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ccd4eb9358c78c77599cf30934f22e633a733e0

Thoughts

What is shown here is highly interesting! To see almost every recorded stop "inside the band" indicates that an overly zealous circuit breaker (or maybe even strategically priced trades to create halts) is not entirely outside the realm of possibility. But it should be noted that these estimations are by no means definitive. Most importantly this method does not account for fluctuations in trading volume. To do it right, we would need access to the raw trading data which as far as I know is unavailable.
I hope this can serve as a good starting point for anyone who is able to take this further.
Edited: just now to fix bug in final outside band logic.
Edited again: It has been mentioned in the comments that the halts are listed on the NASDAQ page and have codes associated with them. What is interesting is that the ones for Gamestop were given a code M.
We can see a key for the codes here
https://nasdaqtrader.com/Trader.aspx?id=tradehaltcodes
https://preview.redd.it/liq90iue8k5d1.png?width=753&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f3f6a70fb017941c116945850117042431d45bc

If anyone has a source for what a Market Category Code C is, that could be useful.
Edit once again: Even better someone directed me to the source of the NYSE halts (instead of roundabout through the NASDAQ). If we navigate to history and type GME, we can see here they are in fact listed as LULD.

2024.06.09 09:47 notawisemanforsure I think I'm not the brightest bulb but what are your thoughts on my cognitive profile?

I think I'm not the brightest bulb but what are your thoughts on my cognitive profile?
When I was a kid I was forced to unknowningly take WISC IQ tests and a porteus labyrinth test due to poor school performance and disability suspicion arising from that, they were surprised that I have scored 126.
English is not my native language probably that doesn't matter anyways.
My first IQ test in life was when I was 6 years old it was a test about labyrinths (porteus labyrinths) I scored a 96 out of that. The paper also had a psychiatrist note in bottom like this: - Physical development: Normal - Mental development: Normal - Social / Behavioral development: at the level of a 4 year old, abnormal
Second IQ test (WISC-R) was when I was 8 years old which I scored 115.
Third one (WISC-R) was from when I was 12 years old which I scored 126. In none of tests I was aware it was an IQ test I was just told it was a quick exam that was required for my schooling.
Fourth one (WISC-IV) was from when I was 14 years old the only IQ test I was I'm aware of I was taking an IQ test I was never told my score but based on their reaction after they talked to my parents probably it was upper average. This wasn't a WISC-R but a WISC-IV instead.
All of those tests were required because of extremely low academic performance ( I was under performing in mathematics compared to peers and after some point I started to under perform in language/grammar too), they never figured out what was wrong with me eventually I got a dyslexia diagnosis which was later revised to Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis and since many people think Autism = intellectual disability in my country they generally give Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis for people with normal IQ.
I recently got a hold of my papers;
  • My working memory is absolute bottom 4 backwards and 5 forwards in digit span, interestingly enough this is only for numbers for anything else like a place I have visited (roughly location, color and shapes of objects) or some catchy music I heard I was able to hold such information with really good accuracy for like an entire day.
  • Only things I'm good at are matrix reasoning, coding and block design everything else is either low or normal
  • I did shown aggressive behavior such as yelling or not following directions against the psychiatrist as the note given and they didn't think the score was valid too (for the test I had when I was 12.)
Health issues: Because of poor parenting, parents misusing alcohol and smoking way too much and chugging out little amount of money they earn (we were a lower middle income family with total net worth of roughly $100k) I wasn't able to live healthy.
I was exposed to lead dust from dad which he worked with while he did wash his hands little he knew that his work clothes would bring the dust to house and spread it to everywhere including my toys, my food. I never had lead poisoning nor my blood levels were checked but for sure I was exposed. Food I ate was cooked in an oven with presumably cadmium paint, it was made in 1980s with no regulations in place. Russian no brand cookware and pottery, probably don't want to know what those bright red glazes made from. I wasn't able to eat enough meat due to misuse of money by parents and my B12 levels were abnormally low, low B12 wasn't treated until I was 17 at the time of treatment I had a B12 level in blood around 90 pg/mL. Mother smoked a lot while she was pregnant, she would smoke a pack per day draining a hole in their pocket and harming me.
I don't think any of my IQ scoring holds to this day, I believe I'm in lower average end simply having poor working memory makes everything irrelevant, It's something that I need most but I can't. I'm tired of having to bring paper and pencil everywhere when a calculation is required.
I can't calculate even simple numbers really ask me what is 9 + 9 no answer I have to count in my head to find out.
When I was 7 years old I really loved mathematics I enjoyed it so much but when the multiplication went in that was the time I basically quit mathematics. I can't hold multiplication table in head It's straight up impossible I had to go in long 2 years of rehabilitation centre for the "disabled" to do mental math to some extent and what's the outcome? I forgot it, I can't do mental math.
Even though I can't do mental math I can grasp logic behind something pretty well eg: I don't know answer of 9 + 9 but I figure out why they would add let's say a given number in a formula so that made me get into programming even without being able to do mental mathematics I was able to figure out things like how to do 3d projections without all those messy complicated maths (though without trigonometry knowledge I made fake rotations using skewing which didn't end up looking best) and write software that rendered 3D pictures as fun little side projects. I was practicing coding since that time but my enjoyment in this hobby also lost lately because I wanted to do something different than this.
I would spend time stimming and imagining about inventions/objects I would create, I imagined a factory to make them and imagined objects spinning showing all their glorious details from production to packaging I would imagine it those may be a smartphone, a tv remote, a display technology using good ol phosphors with an uv light hitting them with specific angles creating a "crt without crt just phosphor", imagining about designing user interfaces for product screens, showing the glossy glass and their micro scratch markings on them it was the most enjoyable thing for me while it caused me to stim a lot by flapping my hands together sometimes resulting in cuts due to fingernails going fast through skin (I explained people that I was feeling my dreams when I did this they found it weird but many people around me accepted it without an issue as "kids these days")
Lately I noticed further degradation of my working memory I'm no longer able to keep a song in head and perfectly remember it's lyrics without distorting or making up something or mentally remember a place with good accuracy and not that related to working memory but ability to mentally spin objects that I imagine also become harder and more stressing. I took the CAIT online digit span test and I scored 3 backwards 4 forwards.
Without good working memory being able to reason about something has no value thus for long time I thought I had to make something that would make people progress further because there's absolutely no mission in real life we make the "game", I guess I wouldn't able to fulfill my dreams I've had as a child as a person with no friends whatsoever and liked to be alone just imagine future projects I could been made this has devastating results, I have now a diminished mental health as result of bad working memory I know nothing I imagine will happen.
Clearly I'm not smart at all, whatever caused this I'm not sure but possibly irreversible, living with poor working memory is low quality life with low chances of success.
I took multiple online IQ tests (mostly unrelated to wm).
Symbol search 100 Mensa Denmark 129 Beta 4 matrices 105 (with an error margin of 8) Mensa Norway not in the range < 90 Ravens progressive matrices clinical edition 112 CAIT digit span ~80
Not an IQ test but HumanBenchmark has a relation to working memory which is correlated with intelligence:
https://preview.redd.it/x7a3p3su1i5d1.png?width=896&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9dd072b1d94667d87e175ec7732a3e685554420
Note: I did rush through matrix tests without giving enough attention until time runs out.
TL;DR: I have working memory deficits and childhood proctored IQ test score of maximum (WISC-R) 126 and minimum (Porteus Labyrinths) 96 never had a proctored IQ test as an adult. I'm only good at block design, coding and matrix reasoning nothing else.

2024.06.09 09:42 XellosGaming An over the top Loot Spreadsheet

So, I made an over the top Loot Speadsheet for my Static for the upcoming tier and I thought I would share it with everyone. I know there are other spreadsheets out there and they all have their purpose. But they lacked some things that I wanted. Some also required waiting for others to update them to be current (something I wasn't keen on)
Specifically, this spreadsheet uses no scripting and requires no special knowledge of google sheets or excel to be able to use. There is very little setup and a lot of it is optional :)
It's compatible with all Savage Tiers without having to wait for me to update it!
If you would like to use the Spreadsheet for yourself, you can make a copy here: LINK
Features:
HOW TO USE:
It's pretty Straight Foward - You just make a Copy of the Spreadsheet: LINK
Notes:
Not really sure if I missed anything, but I believe this should cover most peoples needs, It definitely covers ours! I hope this helps somebody. I know it's over the top. I know there is a lot better looking sheets out there and I know there isn't a one size fits all option.

2024.06.09 09:23 mynamestillisntkevin To anyone truly worried about the sale of stock in run ups and what this dilution does to the stock.

I understand your feelings, but I hope that the big picture will help. With the currently available information, the last sale of share increased the book value of each share significantly. That will likely happen again with the current batch of stock. If they continue to increase the book value per share, we individual retail investors don't need to worry about dilution.
The company is putting more shares out there, but all shares have become more valuable. That's helps us as shareholders, allows the board significant power in available capital, and shortens the clock on when the baddies explode. This cycle is bullish. Despite an offering of 45 million shares, we retraced the 60s within a week, raising the floor with it.
Because of the current book price of each share and not knowing the totals for the 75 million share offering, the board may have prevented gap filling on the 3 month chart at 19.41 because the book value of the price has increased significantly, but only time will tell. Volatility is totally normal for GME. This stock is not just up against SHF but also a set of algotrithms that have been playing market volatility for the whole stock market for decades. They like to fill gaps.
The entirety of the 3 year bullflag may have just been the algorithm exploiting gap filling to slowly walk the price down to the stocks floor. We authorized up to a billion shares for the board to sell. Bout half of that remains. If they can increase the book value of each share significantly as they release those shares, the floor of the stock price should continue to rise. There will be plenty to sell during MOASS. Every time the price is getting pumped up by those trying to play volatility, the floor moves with it. Good strategy, RC.
If the board continues to offer shares as we do run ups, it secures a higher floor price at every offering, effectively providing a countdown to close short positions before the cost of their maintenance eats the holder alive. This increases the minimum price of GME and also provides plenty of legal cover in case of post MOASS shenanigans. If they more than triple the outstanding shares and shorts still cant close, the board did all they could. It also provides a mountain of evidence for any criminal proceedings against financial terrorists. Im starting to think someone believes we mean "No cell, no sell"
(I initially did this as a comment to someone who was dismayed about the sale of shares, but the feeling is prevalent enough, that I thought it warranted a post.)
Edit to spell gooder. Also. Not financial advice.

I've been using the Whatafit Resistance Bands Set for a few weeks now and it's been a game-changer in my home workout routine. The different colored bands are adjustable, which means I can get just the right resistance for each exercise. Plus, they're super portable, making them perfect for taking on trips or storing in a small apartment.
One of the standout features of this set is the quality of the materials. Each band is clearly marked with its equivalent weight, so I know exactly how much resistance I'm getting. And unlike some cheaper sets, these bands have held up well even after multiple uses.
However, there are a couple of downsides to this product. The handles can be a bit small for some people, making them a bit uncomfortable to use. Plus, the clips that attach the bands to the handles can be a bit difficult to snap on.
Overall, I'd say the Whatafit Resistance Bands Set is a great addition to anyone's home gym. It's versatile, easy to use, and made with good quality materials. Just be prepared to potentially double up on the straps and wear gloves if you have larger hands!

I recently got my hands on the Blogilates Loop Bands - 4pk, and oh boy, these have been a game-changer in my daily workout routine! Having four different resistance levels, from light to crazy, has allowed me to tailor my workout sessions according to my mood and energy levels.
The highlight of my experience has been the fact that these loop bands are incredibly easy to pack. This feature has made maintaining a fitness routine while traveling so much simpler for me. Plus, the designs are developed by none other than Cassey Ho, a leading fitness personality and Pilates instructor. Her expertise guarantees that these loop bands will take your home workouts to the next level!
However, there were also a few minor drawbacks. The light resistance bands, while serving beginners, weren't as effective for me when I desired an intense workout. Additionally, the plastic-like texture of the bands can be a bit off-putting at first, especially if you're used to fabric resistance bands.
Despite these minor issues, I've seen a significant improvement in my overall fitness since incorporating these loop bands into my workout regimen. Their portability and various resistance levels make them a must-have for anyone looking to diversify their home workout sessions.

🔗Exercise Booty Resistance Bands Set for Adults

https://preview.redd.it/amxznts7sh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31771dc1c4f6522705cbc66e18630c8827499b02
When I first laid my hands on the Blogilates Booty Resistance Bands 2pk, I could tell right away that this was going to be a game-changer for my home workout routine. The quality of the material, made from a blend of polyester cotton and latex silk, was absolutely top-notch. I was also thrilled to see that both light and medium resistance bands were included in the package, giving me the flexibility to adjust the intensity of my workouts based on my comfort levels. However, as someone who is used to using resistance bands on a regular basis, I must admit that I was initially a bit surprised by how large these bands were - especially the light resistance one.
I mean, it was so big that it felt like it was going to fall off of me half the time! But after giving it a shot and realizing that the size was actually quite intentional (to provide adequate resistance for a variety of exercises), I actually started to appreciate the unique design of these bands. They stayed put during squats, lunges, and other bodyweight exercises, which made working out a lot more fun and efficient.
Another big plus for me was how comfortable these resistance bands were to use. The fabric was incredibly soft and gentle on my skin, which is something that I really value when it comes to workout gear. Plus, they were super easy to clean and maintain, which is always a major plus in my book.
However, I did have one small issue with these resistance bands. While the medium resistance band was perfect for my needs, I found that the light resistance band was too light for my liking. It felt more like a resistance band for beginners rather than something that I could really sink my teeth into. But to be fair, these are resistance bands designed with versatility in mind, and I can definitely see how they would be a great option for someone looking to incorporate resistance training into their routine for the first time.
Overall, I would say that the Blogilates Booty Resistance Bands 2pk are a solid investment for anyone looking to take their home workouts to the next level. The combination of durability, comfort, and ease of use makes them a top-notch choice for anyone looking to get in shape without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

These bands come in five different weight capacities ranging from 5 to 25 pounds, which is perfect for targeting all sorts of upper body muscles. The door attachments make it super easy to mount and take down, and the travel bag keeps everything organized when I'm on the go.
One feature that really stood out was the anti-snap technology. No more dealing with harsh rubber or pulling arm hair while working out. The smooth protective sheath covering the bands provides full comfort and protection, so you can really focus on your workout. Plus, these bands help relieve shoulder pain and increase flexibility, making them perfect for rehabilitation or general mobility.
On the downside, it's important to use these bands on flat surfaces and not stretch them more than three times their original length. And remember, always attach them to a strong anchor point to avoid injury. Overall, these resistance bands are a game-changer for my workouts. It's so convenient to work out anytime, anywhere, and they're gentle on joints while still providing an effective workout.

I've been using Lifeline Flat Bands for a few weeks now, and I have to say, they've been a game-changer for my home workout routine. These bands are incredibly versatile, allowing me to add resistance to almost any strength or mobility exercise. I love how lightweight they are, making it easy to bring them along with me wherever I go.
One of my favorite features is their ability to isolate specific muscle groups, helping me target weak areas and improve my overall balance. They've also been a lifesaver for safe rehab and injury prevention, giving me the confidence to push myself without overdoing it.
The progressive color-coded resistance levels are a great touch, making it easy to choose the right level for any exercise or fitness objective. And the fact that they come individually pre-cut and packaged means no fussing with tangled bands or messy storage.
However, there is one downside - the latex material used in the bands can have quite a strong smell. While it hasn't bothered me too much during use, it's worth noting if you're sensitive to smells. All in all, if you're looking for a convenient and versatile way to enhance your fitness routine at home or on the go, Lifeline Flat Bands are definitely worth checking out.

I recently discovered the SPRI Flat Resistance Band Loop Kit, and let me tell you, it's become an indispensable part of my workout routine. This set includes three colorful resistance bands with various resistance levels - light, medium, and heavy.
The real game-changer is how comfortable these bands are to use. Their snug fit on my upper or lower legs lets me perform any number of resistance exercises effortlessly. Not to forget, the exercise guide included in the kit provides a variety of exercises specifically designed to target and strengthen the hips, glutes, and thighs.
Despite being an ardent fitness enthusiast, I've suffered from knee issues in the past. The light band provided a perfect resistance level for me to continue with my leg exercises safely and without causing further strain. On the other hand, my husband, who's more experienced in fitness, has been using the heavy resistance band extensively.
One of the best aspects of these SPRI Flat Resistance Band Loops is their space-saving design. They're incredibly easy to store and can even fit into a suitcase, making them perfect for travel. Also, they're versatile enough to be incorporated into workouts ranging from HIIT to yoga or cardio, making them a valuable addition to any home gym.
Another important point to mention is the impressive durability of these bands. I've tried many resistance bands before, but these SPRI ones have undoubtedly outshined the rest, lasting for more than six months of regular use.
However, no product is perfect, and while the SPRI Flat Resistance Band Loop Kit offers various benefits, it has a few cons too. One potential drawback for some users might be their rubbery smell, which can be challenging to get rid of after use. Additionally, individuals with extremely sensitive skin might experience mild discomfort while using these bands.
Overall, the SPRI Flat Resistance Band Loop Kit is a highly versatile and effective workout tool. With its comfortable design, various resistance levels, and excellent durability, it's definitely worth considering if you're looking to strengthen and tone your lower body muscles at home or during your travels.

I recently got my hands on the XPRT Fitness Resistance Bands Pull Up Assist Bands Stretching Powerlifting Set of 4, and they have truly revolutionized my workout routine. As someone who frequently struggles with maintaining consistency in my fitness journey, these resistance bands have made all the difference. Their vibrant colors and varying resistance levels have not only made my workouts more fun and engaging but also significantly more effective.
One of the standout features of these resistance bands is their super durable, natural latex composition. The anti-snap design provides a sense of safety and ease of use, allowing me to focus solely on pushing my limits. The pull-up assist bands have allowed me to transform my usual chin-ups, ring-ups, and muscle-ups into a challenge that keeps me motivated.
A key highlight of this product is the ability to use multiple resistance bands simultaneously, which enables me to customize my workout intensity as per my fitness level. The bands are lightweight and easy to transport, allowing me to incorporate my workout routine into my daily life with ease.
However, on the downside, some users have reported a strong smell associated with the bands. While this dissipates over time, it can be off-putting initially. Additionally, one reviewer mentioned that the red band frayed after just six months of use. Despite these minor setbacks, the overall performance and effectiveness of these resistance bands have earned them high praise from the fitness community.

🔗Professional Strength Flat Resistance Bands for Exercise

I'm someone who's always looking for ways to incorporate fitness into my life. When I came across the C9 Champion Exercise Flat Resistance Band 3-pack, I was intrigued. This set of three flat resistance bands (light, medium, and heavy) promises to help me strengthen and tone, all in the comfort of my home.
The light flat band provides a maximum resistance of 20lbs, which I found perfect for warming up before moving onto the medium resistance band that offers 40lbs of resistance. I loved the challenge these bands provided, especially for targeting my upper body, core, and lower body muscles.
My heart really started pumping when I used the strongest resistance band that gives me 50lbs of resistance. While I may not be a professional athlete, I could definitely tell these bands were working as my muscles began to burn after just a few reps. Plus, they're incredibly affordable making them an essential addition to any home gym.
However, one downside is their size. Although these bands are compact and portable, the short length of some exercises can be slightly challenging. For instance, my favorite exercise for bicep curls is difficult to do while standing up. However, this issue is easily remedied by kneeling down instead.
Another minor issue is the smell. Some users reported a strong odor that took hours to go away even after thorough washing. While I didn’t experience this, it’s worth keeping in mind if you have sensitivity to smells.
Overall, the C9 Champion Exercise Flat Resistance Band Set has been incredibly beneficial in diversifying my home workout routine. These bands are sturdy, well-priced, and offer varying levels of resistance to fit any fitness level. If you're looking to up your strength training game without spending a fortune on gym equipment, these resistance bands are definitely worth considering.

What exercises can be done with flat resistance bands?

Flat resistance bands can be used for a wide range of exercises, including chest presses, lateral raises, bicep curls, tricep extensions, leg curls, and much more. You can incorporate these bands into your current workout routine or use them for gentle stretching and mobility exercises.

  • Increased muscle strength and tone
  • Improved flexibility and range of motion
  • Enhanced core stability
  • Reduced risk of injuries during exercise
  • Highly portable and cost-effective workout option

How do I know which resistance level to choose?

Choosing the right resistance level depends on your fitness level and the specific exercises you plan to use the bands for. It is recommended to start with a lighter resistance and gradually progress to heavier bands as you develop more strength and endurance. Consult a fitness professional for guidance on selecting appropriate resistance levels for your needs.

How often should I use flat resistance bands?

The frequency of using flat resistance bands will depend on your fitness goals and current fitness level. Incorporating these bands into your workout routine 2-3 times per week can help promote muscle strength, flexibility, and overall physical fitness.

How do I care for and store my flat resistance bands?

To prolong the life of your flat resistance bands, avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures, sunlight, or sharp objects. I recently tried the Elrene Home Fashions Vintage Floral Water-Resistant Vinyl Tablecloth and let me tell you, it's definitely a statement piece. Its sunflower design with monarch butterflies creates a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, making it perfect for a birthday party or a family picnic.
What stood out to me was the flannel backing, which not only provides extra durability but also helps to keep the cloth in place. It's designed to withstand repeated use, so I've had it out for several events with no signs of wear.
The thick vinyl material is a perk, as it adds a premium touch to the tablecloth. However, it could be a bit of a hassle to clean, as it requires a damp cloth or sponge to remove any stains or spills. While it's resistant to water and stains, it might need a little extra attention to maintain its pristine look.
Overall, the tablecloth is a unique and stylish addition to any dining table. It adds a festive ambiance to any event, and the extra durability of the vinyl material is an added bonus.

🔗Elegant Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth for IndooOutdoor Use - Modern Oval Shape, Seats 6-8

As a fervent enthusiast of hosting gatherings, this Lintex Cafe Hotel Linen Look Solid Colour Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth has been an essential addition to my arsenal of entertainment essentials. Initially, the oval shape of the tablecloth seemed a tad eccentric, but it has proven to be a perfect fit for hosting dinner parties, especially when seating 6-8 individuals comfortably.
The thick lofty polyester flannel backing is not just aesthetically pleasing, but also provides a barrier against spills, stains, and accidental damages. It's a welcome relief from constantly replacing cloth tablecloths or fussing over stain removal. The 4 gauge heavy vinyl flannel backing also adds a protective waterproof layer, which is an added bonus for outdoor use or areas prone to accidental spills.
One of the features that stand out is the easy-to-clean surface. I often dread the cleanup phase at the end of my dinner parties, but with the Lintex tablecloth, I can simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. The sewn edges also contribute to a polished look and further protect the tablecloth from wear and tear.
However, the thickness of the tablecloth means it is a bit more cumbersome to fold when not in use, and it occupies more storage space than one might anticipate.
Overall, the Lintex Cafe Hotel Linen Look Solid Colour Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth has become an indispensable part of my entertaining life. Its durability, resistance to stains, and easy cleaning make it a worthwhile investment for anyone who enjoys hosting guests, whether indoors or outdoors.

🔗Grapevines Hotel Quality Flannel Back Vinyl Tablecloth (Taupe) - Sizes 52" to 70

I recently had the pleasure of using the Grapevines Taupe Contemporary Grape Print Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth during a dinner party at home. The vibrant grape print on the textured surface added a touch of elegance to our table, complementing the decor beautifully.
One of the standout features of this tablecloth was its ability to withstand spills and water. A glass of red wine accidentally tipped over, but the tablecloth handled it like a pro, leaving no stains behind. The heavy 4-gauge vinyl and polyester flannel backing proved to be perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.
However, I also noticed that the tablecloth seemed to have several creases upon arrival, which was a bit disappointing. It took some effort to iron them out, but once done, the tablecloth looked fantastic and blended seamlessly with the decor.
Overall, the Grapevines Taupe Contemporary Grape Print Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth is a great addition to any dinner setting. Its durability, stain and water resistance, and versatile use make it a reliable choice for various occasions. Just remember to iron out those initial creases, and you'll have a beautiful and functional tablecloth that will serve you well.

The vinyl surface can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge, while the flannel backing reduces skidding and slipping on most surfaces. The sewn edges and pleated corners add a touch of elegance, making it a great choice for indoor and outdoor entertaining.
However, there were a few drawbacks to this tablecloth. Firstly, it was slightly shorter than expected, leaving only a small amount of excess material to hang at the sides of the table. Additionally, one user reported that the colors faded quickly, which was unexpected for a product marketed for outdoor use.
Overall, the Newbridge Grapevine Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth is a vibrant and practical choice for those looking to add a pop of color to their table settings. While it may not be perfect, it certainly has its pros and cons, making it a decent investment for both home and commercial use.

I recently came across this pre-owned tablecloth, still in its original package. It's a 52" x 52" square design with a blue and white checked pattern featuring adorable bears and flowers. The flannel-backed vinyl makes it both comfortable and durable.
While I appreciate the eye-catching pattern, I found the sizing to be a bit limiting, only fitting tables up to 40" x 40". Overall, it's a unique and stylish addition to any dining table, but the limited size may not be the best fit for larger tables.
