2024.05.16 12:03 StopProcrastn8ing First IT Semester Finished- It Sucked😅

Good morning,
I left the military with big plans to start a career in IT/Cybersecurity. Started school. Took a Networking class and Server Operations class. Completed my A+.
The material was awful to get through. I’d honestly rather watch paint dry. Hours of videos/reading. All I learned is there is so much more to learn. But learning that took hours of studying. 😂 I’m already burnt out and anxiety ridden over the whole thing. The fact I have 2.5 more years of this makes my stomach churn. Struggled to find enjoyment in the classes. I did great in class but I had to find ways to trick myself to like it.
My fear with completing this degree (if I were to even make it that far) would be that the learning never stops. I gotta learn more every year to stay relevant. Students in my classes had a genuine interest and they seemed to enjoy it. Not this dummy.
I respect what you Cyber Professionals do, but I don’t think I’m the guy for the field. Part of me wants to go back to being the guy that knows his modem’s light is on and that’s good.
Is this just college and should I push through or should I take up something else?
Thought Cyber would be my “mission” after getting medically separated from a job I LOVED in the military. Now even further off track
and melancholy

2024.05.16 03:24 Shzake I think my house got struck by lightning

Hello all, just want to get some input on this. A few days ago there was a thunderstorm in my area for less than an hour.
During the storm I think my house got struck or so (I’ve never experienced this before so I apologize). As result part of my house lost power (breakers tripped), it fried our WiFi modems, the garage door opener, few chargers I had plugged in, and like half of the LED ceiling lights in the house. I got the lights fixed, but I just can’t stop worrying.
A few of the GFCI outlets needed to be reset, but like it was not like after the outage. They were working fine until this morning when my mom said outlets in the garage and the living room didn’t have power. I had to reset them and everything seemed okay until I noticed my gas stove had no power. I checked the breaker box and it tripped, randomly.
I had a technician who came out this morning, after I asked him that I wanted to do a walk through to make sure everything was okay. He only looked at the breaker box, said everything was good, said the grounding was good. And he took off. He tried to sell me an almost 2k whole house surge protector. I kinda got weird feelings because he tried really hard to sell it. I said I needed to think.
What do you guys think? I am 1st time owner so I am pretty new to these things. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
UPDATE 1: I noticed my backyard security cam wasn’t online so I checked the GFCI and it tripped, I had to reset it. Then I tried to troubleshoot the cam and it tripped again. Working fine now but I’m scared there is a next time.

2024.05.16 02:52 IntrepidTechno Hitron CODA56 registration issues on a Comcast Business account

I have been working with a local business to replace their rented Technicolor modem with a Hitron CODA56. I picked the model specifically because it supports the enhanced upload speeds here in Vancouver WA. However, on both occasions in which I called Comcast Business support to swap the modem out on the account, I was told the modem didn't appear on the tech's side, and that I would receive a call back from L2 support. I haven't heard anything in a couple of weeks.
In both cases, the modem was connected for at least 15 minutes before I called, with all lights on solid, and the tech confirmed the model, serial, and MAC address with me. I couldn't find the diagnostics page for the new modem, but the old modem showed good download & upload power & SNR when it was connected in the same place.
So, a few overall questions:
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Food Fare staff attacked by suspect using brass knuckles
A teenage boy is facing charges after several employees at a Food Fare were assaulted by a suspect wielding brass knuckles on Tuesday evening.
The incident happened at about 6:40 p.m. at the grocery store at 905 Portage Ave.
Three male employees, ages 19, 22 and 46, were transported to hospital and treated for various upper-body injuries. The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Wednesday morning.
The WPS said investigators have learned that staff members removed the suspect from the store earlier in the day after some sort of incident.
The suspect later returned, produced brass knuckles and assaulted the three victims, the WPS said.
A suspect was arrested at the rear of the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue. The WPS said officers saw the suspect discard brass knuckles in a nearby yard and found the weapon.
The Winnipeg teen is facing three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized.
He was released from custody on an undertaking.
On Tuesday night, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs announced it would hold a news conference regarding the incident Wednesday morning. The event was cancelled Wednesday.
The Food Fare store has been the site of a few incidents between staff members and suspected shoplifters. WPS spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said Tuesday’s incident does not appear to be related to any incidents media have previously reported on.
“This would stand on its own as an unrelated incident,” he said.
The WPS declined to reveal the circumstances that led to the suspect being escorted out of the store earlier in the day. Police deferred comment to Food Fare on that matter.
“This male returned as a direct response to what had happened,” Chancy said. “The victims were the same people that were involved in the process of escorting him out during the earlier incident.”
He said the victims suffered a range of injuries when they were struck with brass knuckles. One may have suffered a concussion.
Store owners suspended a supervisor last month after an altercation with an Indigenous woman who was accused of stealing.
Security video viewed by a Free Press reporter showed the employee pulling on the woman’s bag. The woman appears to swing her fist at the employee before the staff member appears to punch her in the face.
In response, the AMC, which provides food orders and vouchers to clients under a federal government program, announced it had severed its relationship with the grocer but was willing to reconcile if an apology was forthcoming.
The AMC said in the Tuesday news advisory that it’s “working closely with the owners of Food Fare, who have expressed their sincere apologies for a previous incident where a woman was injured by security at their store. In response, the owners have agreed to implement cultural sensitivity training for their staff and to draft a comprehensive policy to address shoplifting.”
The advisory stated the speakers at the now-cancelled news conference would include Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, Food Fare owner Munther Zeid, as well as Tarik Zeid and Wajih Zeid.
A Winnipeg woman said she witnessed another incident involving an employee May 5.
Gloria Enns was stopped at a red light at Portage Avenue and Arlington Street at about 3 p.m. when she saw two men fighting. One was wearing a red apron she recognized as a Food Fare uniform.
Enns said she called the store and an employee confirmed a worker confronted a male after seeing him steal meat.
Food Fare manager Tarik Zeid told the Free Press no one was physically hurt and the employee was “defending the store and the merchandise.”
Security footage from the store, which was viewed by the Free Press, appears to show a man take two packages of steaks and slip them into a reusable bag. The employee confronted him at the entrance of the store and tugged on the bag in his hand.

2024.05.15 13:52 mrDemkiN T470p recommendation: m.2 SSD +HDD or NVME SSD + m.2 SSD + external HDD

I purchased a new to me Thinkpad T470p in very good condition to replace my E430. I would like to ask those who have similar tasks as mine about SSD variations speed. Now it’s still on its way to me, so I can’t test it myself.
TLDR; For my tasks (below) speed difference between SATA and NVME PCIe x2 will be noticable?
My E430: i7 3632QM, 2x16Gb DDR3 1600, Geforce GT635m 2Gb DDR3, Crucial MX500 512Gb SSD, mSATA Target 500Gb SSD, WD Blue HDD 500Gb,
"New" T470p: i7 7820HQ, 512Gb Samsung MZVLB512HAJQ nvme PCIe x2 (port in motherboard), modem in WWAN slot, 2x16Gb 3200 (upgraded by my request), Geforce 940MX. I'm planing change termopaste to MX-6 and undervolting.
What I use it for:
For all of this I need more storage space. Available options:
  1. Find good non-chinesse m.2 sata SSD 500 gb one-sided and swap with modem in WWAN slot - for OS, VM, projects; Add 2Tb HDD into SSD slot (add a caddy for it)
  2. Leave nvme ssd, add mSata Target SSD from E430 with m.2 adapter and insert in T470p; Use HDD external case via USB (already have it with USB 3.0)
Option 1 is more convenient, than 2. But slower in terms of SSD speed.
Never use nvme in Windows machine before. In benchmarks - ofcourse NVME much faster that SATA, even if it's PCIe x2. I would like to ask those who have similar tasks, the difference in speed between SATA3 and NVME x2 will it be noticeable or will it be at the error level for these tasks?
P.S. Sorry for bad English, not my native language. Edit: mistyping and add TLDR;

2024.05.15 01:28 kiltedfrog Still Not Quite Star Trek

(Sorry for the delay)
"The Disney Corporation has been around longer than most, even alien corps rarely last more than two hundred years before regulation, competition, or innovation eventually figures out a way to wipe them out. Not Disney though, Disney is Eternal." I gesture for the screen to pause like they showed me.
This is the third woman named some variety of Tiffany I'm watching the package on. Tiphany, and Tiffeneigh were before this. It seems like praising Disney corporation was the secret to getting through the AI hiring algorithm, also being phonetically named Tiffany or something really close to it.
The Disney Corp executive producer that Captain Tanner introduced to me to is an android. I always assumed they'd be more... human looking, but apparently there are laws against that sort of thing now. Galactic government, glad to hear it has enough power to enforce things even on Disney corp. This thing looks like a T-800 terminator, but it has a cheery voice that sounds vaguely British to me in a way I can't quite pin down. It seems to have sensed my discomfort at this task.
"It is important that you personally approve of each potential mate. We wish for this process to be enjoyable and more importantly, profitable for everyone involved. Focus groups have told us that Phonetic Tiffany named women will likely help most with that secondary objective. Surely a man of your time wouldn't have issue with such a name."
I had to laugh, "That name's far older than my time. But okay, so it'll make us the most money to have her be named Tiffany somehow. Fine, I'm fine with that." I am, right? Fine enough. Whatever gets me out of this time and into a better future seems worth it.
I finished watching Tiffany's Video, and watch Typhuny next. Then Tiophughny. Then Taoifenieh. Then I lost it. They were all so the same. Slight variations in hair color and skin tone or eye color, but these women were all essentially clones of each other.
"THATS IT! I can't take another one of these." It was too weird. "I thought the Captain said there were Aliens out there, Is that part at least a little star trek like? Aren't there alien women that want to romance rich famous humans?"
The Producertron-800 made a noise like an ancient modem connecting to the internet for a moment. I must have had a look on my face, because it said, "Do not be alarmed, I am only contacting Disney corp headquarters on my internal high speed quantum Modem."
"Not alarmed, surprised." I guess it's the same thing, really. "You just, sounded like an old modem for a moment. So what does headquarters say, can I try to romance an alien woman too?"
"This will be even more profitable than if you try with human women." replied the Disney Rep.
Captain Tanner went over the contract, and set out some objectives to get a few changes made. I trusted him and approved him to be my representative in those negotiations with Disney. I had apparently made him and his ancestors rich, and myself as well. He didn't have any reason to treat me poorly. In fact it was in his own selfish interest to treat me well, and if there anything I knew I could count on from the people of this time, was that most of them would selfishly act in their own interest.
The Doctor had been taking me to meals. He was a rare weirdo in this time, charitable, kind, expected nothing in return. Probably helped that he was also the beneficiary of some ancient bank accounts and compound interest.
After a week of hanging out on the HSS Davis-Catcher, yes, a ship made specifically to catch me and the Zipdrive, I was sent to the set for the space bachelor. It was another ship in space. We took a shuttle.
The captain had done a good job in his negotiations, only humanoid aliens and a couple of human women. There was a cat-folk person. A Felidian, as I learned they are called. I wasn't a huge anime guy before becoming an astronaut, but I calls them like I see's them. That's a catgirl. Her name is Tiffnyany.
I felt bad for not being attracted to one of the other aliens. Terraphiny was a really sweet Turtle-person, a Cyptrondian Testudian. She could pull her head inside her shell, and watching her get comfortable enough to put it out and talk was kind of super adorable. They're a pretty literal people, and don't use euphemisms often or well. I liked her as a person, she was fun to hang out with sure but... I couldn't do it when she ask me if I wanted "To get up inside her cloaca" one night in the hot tub. Surprisingly huge turn off. I apologized profusely for my ancient old-timey racism. She told me it was fine, I was a product of a different time... but man that only made it cut deeper. I felt like such an asshole. But we were contractually obligated to 'engage in newly wed activities' during the next two hundred years, or what would be our wedding night, I just couldn't with Turtle girl.
In the end, I gave the diamondillium rose to Tiffnyany. She was also lots of fun to spend time with. Unlike the reality shows of my time, the producers did not have to interfere for there to be juicy drama. One of the other women on the show, the first to go, was a dog-person. She and the catgirl got into a fight, and it was determined that she started it, and she was kicked off. Later, the catgirl almost killed what I am going to generously call a bird with lips that had been taunting her for days. They let me decide who would stay, and bird lady had to go.
Six weeks had flown by, and somehow I had ended up with what I would have derisively called a catgirl waifu two months ago from my perspective. The wedding was a whole giant spectacle, of Disney proportions. I hear over ten billion sapient beings tuned in live.
In the eight weeks since I had arrived in this time time they had gone far beyond a 'retrofit' for my Zipdrive ship. Nyany, as I learned she preferred to be called but I couldn't legally call her on the show, and I boarded the ship. Captain Tanner was there, so was the doc. Captain tanner went over all the new systems with me and Nyany. Part of why I chose her was that she was a warp field engineer, and absolutely brilliant. One of the human women was a quantum computer programmer, but If we ended up in a future that sucked, I'd want an engineer more than a programmer.
Nyany was far more comfortable at the ship's controls than I was, though contractually I had to be the one to pilot us to the starting position when we launched from space dock. I also had to be the one to push the big shiny red button to activate the updated and upgraded Zipdrive. It was now the RarDrive. Apparently this version worked on the same principles but didn't leak high levels of exotic radiation in it's wake. Probably worth the upgrade.
What felt like an eternity in a fever dream was coming to an end, I was aboard a ship again that would take me from this time. The doctor gave us both a couple of injections before we launched. "That'll probably work. You two oughta be able to have kids now. Gene therapy tech is really the best."
I hadn't even considered that as a possibility. "Shit doc, why did you give us that?"
"It's in your contract," Captain Tanner said. "Subsection 3 of this part here, 'Newly-wed activities must include the threat of potential pregnancy', for maximum profit extraction purposes, of course. We got three points for me and my firm and seven for you and Misses Davis.
"I didn't take his name." Nyany said, "In our culture men take the women's name. We decided to both keep our own. I am still Tiffnyany Pantigris."
"Systems check complete, and the contract is ready for each of your thumbprints, then we'll get out of your hair and let you get on with the honeymoon." The captain had a smile on his face, a business deal that's beneficial to all is a rare thing, and he's enjoying it while he can.
"Probably best to try to forget about us out there watching your every move." The doctor said as he packed up his kit and made his way to the docking port to take the shuttle back.
We moved into position, all the press ships and camera flashes a guy could want greeted us. With Nyany sitting behind me quietly whispering guidance to me I pulled us into position and waited for the countdown from Captain Tanner on his ship.
Finally it got down to "Three, Two, One. Godspeed, Captain Davis!"
The drive exploded us through the rainbow, painfully bright. I had had the foresight to warn my bride that it would hurt to witness, but be beautiful all the same. When it was done we were given the soft shimmery golden light that I experienced outside the ship the first time.
I'm sure you want the gritty kitty details of our nuptial situation, but you gotta pay extra for that. What I will tell you though is that we fulfilled out contractual obligations. Also, a satisfied catgirl will purr as she lays on your chest afterward. I dunno if I made trillions during that time, but I sure felt like a trillion bucks.
The honeymoon day that took two hundred years was over all too soon.
The same long dead woman's voice chimed onto the speakers.
"Nine."
"Eight."
.
.
.
"Three."
"Two."
"One."
We slammed through the rainbow again, only in reverse order of yesterday's launch two hundred years ago.
There were no fireworks this time, no heroes greeting. Only a singular massive grey slab of an obvious warship waiting for us.
They hailed and I answered. "Greetings Capitalist pigdog of the past. You are under arrest for crimes against the regime. Prepare to be boarded."
I looked at Nyany, and she looked at me. "Hit the red button again?" she asked. There was fear evident in her voice, and as I reached out to hit the big red button and launch us off for another day.
Engine power failure
"There is no escape Comrade, unlimited space communism rules the day here, we have seized the means of your power production." The communist captain said.
And then a tractor beam attached.

2024.05.14 12:20 Thistooshullpass iinet vx420-g2h modem second hand reset and want to use on westet account??

I acquired an iinet vx420-g2h modem second hand (to replace the new dodgy vx220-g2v westnet will not replace or acknowledge there's a broader issue with them). So i got hold of a vx420 used by another iinet user. I've factory reset the modem and tried to connect it to my fttn set-up here at home. After a start the dsl light stops blinking and stays green but the internet light does not light up meaning it's not getting through the info it needs to get ip address.
Just curious if anyone has a few pointers for me to further troubleshoot. Generally how long do they take to come up as on line after dsl light is steady. I've had a good look inside the user interface but not quite sure what to look out for. Back in the day the original modems needed us to populate credentials etc, but these days it's meant to be automated without user account user interaction.
Appreciate any other ideas.

2024.05.14 01:52 jboss10 MoCA Setup - Failing Downstream Issues Now

I recently setup a working MoCA network at our new house. Verified there was a PoE filter of the coax line coming into the house (I cannot find the picture on my phone but I did lookup the part number on it to verify - I can provide if necessary to help troubleshoot).
Prior to purchasing equipment, I labeled all my runs using one of the coax tester tools and bought a 4-way splitter (from the 8 that was here). Only use 2 out of the 4 right now but an anticipation with expanding in future.
I replaced a COMMSCOPE CSAPDU9VP splitter with a: Amphenol 4-Way Digital Coaxial Splitter MoCA 2.5 ABS314H (line from the road into the IN port and the 2 OUTs to 2 rooms).
In the office, I connected the coax from the wall to another splitter: Amphenol 2-Way Digital Coaxial Splitter MoCA 2.5 ABS312H. One end to the modem and another to the goCoax. I bought the: goCoax MoCA 2.5 2 pack adapters.
Rigged everything up and all was working flawlessly (it's been ~1.5 week). I just noticed today that I got kicked offline (work from home) and just noticed that the downstream on my Motorolla MB8611 is blinking blue. Prior to getting kicked off, I just had blinking green lights. I did a modem reboot and I do have internet but with an issue on the downstream channels it seems.
I do know when I connected this all up, I had solid blue lights for both downstream/upstream. Now, I cannot say it hasn't been blinking blue for downstream for longer, I just happened to notice today after a disconnect that it was. Not entirely sure what is going on. Large number of corrected/uncorrected on Channels 33/34.
TIA for any ideas/support!

Re-posting again with some big price drops.
LG PH150B Projector- This has been used sparingly over the past 5 years. The resolution is 720p but it can display up to 1080p.
This projector does not have the ability to increase or decrease the screen size. The display gets bigger as you move farther away from the wall.
It does have a manual focus slider on the top.
I have always used this plugged in, but it looks like it still holds a charge, not sure how long. I also used the Bluetooth feature to connect to a soundbar as well, so it's an option if you need.
The remote and power cable are included. Specs on Amazon

2024.05.13 10:28 BodybuilderLoose4738 Help with a random phone box

So in our linen cupboard has always been a grey box with a phone line into it. Finally decided to take the cover off and was left with this. Can anyone share some light on what it actually is, and why there’s a random power plug that’s not plugged into anything. It doesn’t bother us was just curious, plus was trying to figure out the chances of plugging our routemodem into this area as it’s smack in the center of the house as opposed to a bedroom in the corner of the house

Weird recurring signal issue? (internet)
I recently moved back into my home office for work and have noticed something odd that I'd seen months back but never paid attention to. I now suspect that it's been going on for several months now regularly, as I've noticed weird hiccups in YouTube TV for 30-45 secs at a time on occasion.
The downstream light on my Netgear CM1100 modem flashes on a recurring basis every 5-15 mins, yet I'll remain connected though with a rougher connection (packet drops, slow responses, etc).
I'm fairly certain that the modem itself is fine, but I've got some captured info from the logs as well as the status page. Can anyone please take a look and let me know what you may see wrong? Comcast's position so far on a tech support call is that there's nothing wrong, but I contend there's a signal issue and not with the modem, and I'm pretty sure all they did was their normal "let me press this button and if it says good then it must be good"
Here is the recurring set of warnings/errors. Whenever this happens, Critical status gets reached in the Log. Typically the light stops flashing after a few mins, but again -- I'm still connected, but things seems slow to respond for a short bit. I also noticed that channels 32 and 193 seem to keep popping up in these recurring sets of messages.

Here's the modem status page while it's flashing:

Any help that someone can provide would be appreciated.

2024.05.12 13:11 raskoln- Bought a new desktop station, USB wifi adapter gets disconnect every 5-10 minutes.

Hello everyone. I'm looking for some help about my internet connection. I have an usb wifi adapter on my desktop pc, It's a "Edimax AC600 EW-7811UTC" but gets disconnected from the wifi (not turned off).
When I am making a speed test with this desktop it is very low and when we are trying at home with other devices they are 10x faster.
What i have to do is manually disable and re enable the adapter from the adapter list.
What I have tried are reinstalling the driver, setting up again and watching many youtube videos and trying to apply them. Power mode changing doesn't effect it.
This wifi usb adapter has a WPS button on it. The blue light on it always blink. I tried to click that button on it and didn't change anything. Maybe I just don't know how to do it. I have read many other article about this problem. My problem is occuring on Windows 11 Home.
Thanks indeed.
UPDATE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Fnqisn_ge8 I applied this video again. It seems like Wifi doesn't disconnect anymore but slow speed and unstable condition didn't fixed yet. I still think it is a wifi driver problem and the light on the usb still blinks (blue color).
LAST UPDATE: I have lower speed of Internet, but it works well for me now. After cool restarting internet disconnects stopped and speed was more stable. The video I put here is the summary of every video I watched and the most logical one about this issue. I am just not touching anything anymore to not losing this at least...

2024.05.12 12:52 Nela_Lee Buying second hand house, compiled list of things that should be checked in the house. Which are on me and what should be done by the surveyor or some other specialist?

Hi all, I’m preparing for house hunt for second hand house and reading a lot of discussions so I can make a comprehensive list of things to look out for in the house (location aside), but the more I read the more questions I have :-D - current list below, might be handy for people in the similar situation.
In some discussions, I saw people mentioning stuff that I thought would be done by the surveyor, for example ask them to turn on the heating to see if radiators heat up, great advice! But is it me who has to ask this? I vaguely remember when my ex landlord was selling house under my butt there were people in checking the heating, also if the windows open well, water pressure, drains.. So yeah I’m not sure, I don’t want to miss something but also don’t want to bother doing something that I’m later going to pay the surveyor to do.
Below is the list of things split on stuff that I don’t know who should do, and what I believe I should do. Looking for advice on the first half:
  1. Which of those items are mine to check and which should be done by surveyor or solicitor?
  2. If I have to check myself, do I check those things during the first viewing or should I save some of those for a second viewing?
  3. & if I’m doing a second viewing to check for additional things, when should I do it? During bidding? After sale agreed? After surveyor does his check? Just before signing contract?
Read one comment previously saying don’t bother paying extra specialists for maintenance checks before your solicitor sees the contract and does his work as there might be issues that will make you back off from the sale anyway and you would have wasted money on unnecessary surveys.
LIST:
Not sure who should check this:
  1. If the seller wants to leave in furniture and big appliances, can I see behind it (for damages/mould)
  2. have them show that the boiler works
  3. check windows - if they open fine, if there is draft, mould or anything like that
  4. check water pressure & drains if they are not blocked
  5. check if the heating works and radiators look ok / not leaking
  6. see if the lights work
  7. is the septic tank on the property site? any issues with it?
  8. look at ceilings for mould/water stains or their cover-ups
  9. check under the sink - for leaks or improper fixes
  10. look out for wallpapers as they can be covering crap and hard to remove
  11. search online to see if there is any mica or pyrite known on the estate
I believe this all is on me:
  1. BER
  2. how old is the house?
  3. why is the house being sold?
  4. what boilers are there, how old and when was it serviced last?
  5. when is the current owner going to move?
  6. is the property currently connected to power and services or will need re-connect?
  7. see if there is an internet modem, what provider, and check for a signal if possible
  8. look if there is enough sockets in rooms
  9. Look at the property price register and see when the house was last sold
  10. check how and when sun comes in
Thanks for any input!

2024.05.11 08:49 Angel466 [Bob the hobo] A Celestial Wars Spin-Off Part 1010

PART ONE THOUSAND AND TEN
[Previous Chapter] [Next Chapter] [The Beginning] [Patreon+2]
Sunday
Brock loved one aspect of being a teenager again, and that was the utter lack of responsibility that no first-time teen truly appreciated. He’d stolen a facsimile of that freedom over the last six months of his life as Angelo, though not in a good way. Back then, no one expected anything of him because he was a waste of oxygen that nobody except Robbie cared about.
Well, Mason and Sam were worried, but as the younger roommates, that was the extent of their capability. Now that he’d been handed the original formula, it was fun to wind everyone up by hiding behind the kid façade. Not so much when Robbie laid down the law, but the highs outnumbered the lows tenfold, such as nobody expected him to be up before lunchtime on a Sunday. So when he rolled out of bed with barely two hours to spare, he found the apartment practically a ghost town.
He whistled the words “Yoooohooo,” to see if anyone would respond, and no one did.
Dang.
Where is everyone?
The warmer was empty, and the fridge had the basics, but he wanted a Robbie meal, and he was sure his best friend in the whole world wouldn’t be holding out on him. He went over to the magic box covered by a dishcloth and lifted both the cloth and the lid in one move.
Nada. Nothing.
With a huff of disgust, he lowered the lid (minus the dishcloth since that slid over the back) and went to step away when he remembered the trick to the box. Well
crap! How was he supposed to know what Robbie had put in there for him? The only one who’d know for sure was Robbie, and he was probably out putting together a global grocery shop to restock their pantry after yesterday’s party.
Okay, think dumbass, he ordered himself. Robbie wouldn’t have left you something you couldn’t get to. He placed both hands on the magic box and drummed his fingers. “Alright, box. How do I make you cough up my breakfast?”
The answer was so obvious that he wanted to bang his head against the counter for not thinking of it sooner. Because Robbie’s innate is food. Stop asking what he made and ask yourself what it is you want for breakfast!
Dozens of options rolled through his mind, each sounding better than the last. And then he had it. “Nonna’s frittata,” he said to the box, already salivating, and he hadn’t even smelt it yet. He flipped the lid and filled the room with freshly cooked fluffy eggs and Grana Padano cheese. “Oh, holy mother,” he whimpered, practically drooling over the chunky potato pieces that, for some reason, many Americans left out of the traditional frittata. His Nonna had always called it a travesty.
“Come to Papa,” he declared, lifting the plate to his nose, and breathing in deeply. “Robbie, you’re the best,” he promised, shutting the magic box’s lid and patting it like a dog that had done well. He then went to the cutlery drawer and grabbed a knife and fork for himself. He didn’t worry about a drink because he was certain he could drown in the amount of saliva already dripping from his chin.
For the next ten minutes, he tried his very best to slow down and appreciate the meal. To remember all the good times he’d had with his grandmother before she passed away.
As always, when it came to his Nonna’s recipes, he was full by the time he finished, though he lifted the plate and licked the flavour-infused oil from the surface.
“Risparmio e il miglior guadagno,” he whispered, quoting his grandfather’s favourite defence about his wife’s cooking whenever she’d bust him doing exactly what Brock was doing now and chase after him with whatever wooden implement she had at the time.
Brock paused, then put the plate down and stared at it. He barely remembered what his grandfather looked like, but he’d remembered that. The stocky, no-nonsense, chain-smoking roadworker had died from lung cancer while he was still a toddler, and in that moment of reflection, he couldn’t help but wonder how different things would be if Nonno had survived his fatal condition.
His mother certainly wouldn’t have gotten away with her drug use, and he wondered if Rocco and Giani would’ve gotten tangled up in the underworld if he’d been there to keep them on the straight and narrow. They were young to his old, but Nonno was still the patriarch – or had been.
Then again, if he had lived, Angelo wouldn’t have spent so much time on the streets or met Imogen, which led to Robbie being his best friend. He might still be Angelo instead of Brock

“God works in mysterious ways,” his Nonna often quoted.
If only you knew, Nonna. I miss you so much.
He dropped the dish and cutlery into the dishwasher and went in search of everyone.
As always, he started with their side of the apartment first.
Since it was heading on for lunchtime, it didn’t surprise him that Charlie was gone. She was probably next door doing more car preparation for the racing driver Nascerdios, who was supposed to be coming by in the next couple of days.
For a second, he thought about knocking on Boyd and Lucas’ door and quickly decided that would be just as fatal as Nonno’s lung cancer. At the very least, Boyd would rip him limb from limb and beat him to within an inch of his life with each of them for bothering them the night after their engagement party.
That left Mason, and a light knock on his door had his friend calling out, “It’s open.”
Brock let himself in and was thrilled to see Mason in his work corner, with his fancy table alight and some sort of internal organ being dissected, his laptop open, and ten tons of paperwork scattered around him.

mainly because it left something else in the room unused.
“Hey,” Brock said after glancing at the gaming corner and finding it just as he’d left it; fully closed up. “Any chance I could
?” His grin was all teeth as he rolled both pointer fingers at the gaming corner.
Mason growled and waved him off. “And you’re still going to find time to play basketball with us this afternoon, right?”
“Damn straight. I have to prove my superiority to all you losers,” Brock laughed, making a beeline for the coveted machine. He opened the folding doors and pushed them back into the same wall that shared the hallway. Then he kicked over the system, practically giggling with excitement as the whole thing slid and rolled like a Transformer shifting between forms.
And because he had been the last one to use it, the seating was still set to his specifications. He slid around the side and into the chair that was already angling itself with the footrests at the perfect height for him. He took the headset from the charger built into the back of the headrest and pulled it over his ears, twisting the microphone to sit in front of his mouth. “Ground Control to Major Tom,” he sang as the screens on the overhead brace came to life.
He saw rather than heard Mason snapping his fingers at him through the gap between the upper monitors and the keyboard and popped one ear out of the headset. “Yeah?”
“Keep it down, buddy. Some of us are trying to study.”
“Oh
sure. Sorry.” To make a point, he sucked his lips between his teeth and pretended to bite them, flipping both thumbs up at his friend.
Mason laughed and shook his head. “You’re still an idiot.”
You’re studying, and I’m gaming. Who’s the idiot again? Brock mused to himself as he returned the headset’s earmuff to his ear and began typing on the keyboard.
A quick log-in and scan of his character’s inventory and how the land around his base was situated (because leaving the game for days sometimes cost you as others raided your space), he headed out into the mainframe, appearing once more at the crossroads where he’d first met everyone.
Patalon was there, but he had the AFK sign above his head. “Awww,” he said, quickly shooting the orc tank’s player a ping chat to let him know he was available for some more fun if he was interested. Then he left the crossroads and headed ‘east’ towards the mountains.
* * *
The almost inaudible ding sounded like the biggest of Chinese gongs going off in the tiny room, and just like those types of summons, two men launched themselves over the back of the couch where they’d been watching TV and a third rolled off one of the three cots that were placed on the far side of the room. A fourth man rushed in from outside, having crushed out his cigarette on the doorframe, and all four leapt into their seats, each grabbing their receptionist-style headsets that only covered one ear from the back of their chairs.
“Now, this time, try not to stomp on his system so hard you warn him off,” the youngest of the four said from the far end said, as they all woke up their characters and converged on the gaming crossroad. “Or he might disappear for longer than a couple of days.”
“Fuck you. We’re getting paid to find this fucker’s scrawny ass, not pussy foot around forever holding our dicks,” another snapped. On a large monitor against the wall behind their consoles, they could all see the grid section of New York City. As brutal as Clay’s initial assault on the city’s network had been, it had narrowed the field from a global search to this city of eight million people.
The smoker ignored their banter and leaned forward to read the private message on his screen. “You can’t hide forever, Trevino.”

2024.05.11 03:56 JonMerrill15 Worst Customer Service

Live in the Vegas area. Fortunate to be in a fiber-ready area. Speeds are great when everything is working, but too many issues and literally the worst response.
Lost my internet between 6-7pm. Tried calling, but customer service is lucky to have bank hours. Tried to chat, but the buttons are unresponsive. Seems to happen whenever there’s an outage. Got put into a queue once, but was quickly booted and was never able to return. Tried their text-with-an-agent option, but was met with the same pasted response of “a few minutes” over and over again. In fact, almost 24 hours later, and I still get the same response. Called on my way into work. Speak to a technician. Since I’m not at home, she tries to diagnose the issue remotely. She tries to tell me that I need to reconfigure my modem. I tell her that whenever I lose my service, the same lights that are out now seem to go out. Tell her that it always takes sending someone out to simply reset something outside of my home and it’s done. I only know this because the last guy they sent over let me know. She refuses to listen and tells me to reset everything when I get home.
I left work early to call again. Different tech, but I’m in front of my router now. She tells me that I was right and someone needs to be dispatched. Now I’m pissed. I knew it earlier, but was told I would be on the hook for at least $99 if they sent someone for something they didn’t diagnose. By now, it’s almost 5pm on Friday here and the first appointment isn’t until the 14th. No internet until Tuesday. No TV, no games, no baby monitor. Now I’m mad.
Long story a little less long, I talk to two more agents and finally a supervisor. By now I’m furious. I explain as calmly as I can what has happened. He then gets very condescending and tries to tell me that this is my fault. “You need to let people do their jobs or else you’ll be without service for 2-3 weeks. That’s how the world works.” I tell him that I tried to let people do their job. I tried to call, but no one to answer calls after 5pm. I tried to chat, but it’s disabled. I tried to text, but no reply. I called a tech as soon as they opened at 8, but she misdiagnosed my issue and was trying to charge me. Had any one of these “people” done their job, I would have had an appointment for today and not Tuesday. I think he knew he messed up and crossed a line because he became very sheepish after confidently being a condescending jerk.
Praying a tech comes early (texted the guy who came last time and told me how easy it was and offered him $50 under the table), but going to have to settle for venting online and trying to convince people in Vegas to steer clear of this company.
If anyone has any advice on where to complain, it would be appreciated and thanks for letting an angry idiot vent for a while.

2024.05.11 03:51 UnknownHook PC Unable to Connect to Internet (Via Ethernet)

Hey,
After digging for hours I've realized my situation may be unique.
My PC was running fine, then I woke up the next day and there was no power, not to any of the USB or external devices, as well as no light from LEDs.. About 24 hours pass and the PC now fully turns on.
The only issue is that there is no connection to the internet. My PC is wired (always has been) directly into the modem.
When looking at the driver (Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I225-V), I see the error code 10 saying the device cannot start.
I have followed many different guides on what to do, but here is what I've done so far
The situation gets tricky: if my PC shuts off, it takes about 60 seconds for LEDS to come on and the power button to work. If I try before that it just won't turn on.
Did something fry in my PC? Any suggestions?

2024.05.11 01:42 Flores477 Router will not connect to internet.

Router gives signal and i’m able to connect with all devices however the internet does not work at all(the light is also orange indicating that). The modem works as I tested it with my computer and internet works. So it’s the router. So what happened was my dad accidentally cut the internet cable for the MODEM which he fixed when he realized. Now the router doesn’t work when I expected the modem not to work, doesn’t make sense to me. I actually have another net gear router than I had connected in my room as a WI-FI extender or AP, so I tired it with that one as the main one and it still has no internet. I reset them a bunch of times and keep trying but they don’t work in terms on internet, i’m still able to connect to them. I’m guessing it’s settings but I don’t know how i would fix it, i only know how to access the settings panel for the router. Any help is appreciated thank you.

2024.05.10 15:01 humphreys888 Need advice on turning on a bathroom with timer with the light switch

I have a bathroom fan that I currently turn on by using a light switch. I bought a new fan that needs three wires and i only have two wires running to the fan. It's possible to wire the fan so that it's always on but I don't have more than two wires going to the fan.
I would like to use simple smart switches to turn on the fan when I use the light switch.
So the fan would get continues power with the current wiring and the on/of wire would be plugged to a smart switch which would be controlled by a smart switch behind the light switch.
My question is what is the easiest / cheapest set up for this? I would prefer the switches to just work without pairing with a modem. It doesn't even need to be wifi.
I looked into rf switches but can't find any that don't use a remote controle rather than a switch that can be placed behind the light switch.
I live in europe.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
