Mikorte informativo—a Mexican news program inspired by Planet of the Apes
Most of these are screenshots from my favorite episode, The Day of the Dead episode, in which the apes go to a sementery in Mexico City where people visit the graves of their relatives. The apes do some journalism on this Mexican festivity and report back to their own planet.
First image: (from left to right) Mónico Chimpanzón, Monuel Changosé, Simeone Monarres.
Second image: while remebering their own dead relatives, Mónico starts crying at the memory of his mother and leans on Simeone's shoulder to cry.
Third image: interview with the cronist of the area, who explains the tradition.
Fourth image: interview with a man dressed as Mictlantecutli; translated quote "I am the god of death in three different cultures".
Fifth image: they dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller to see if the dead really do come back as Mexicans claim... Until the batery of the cellphone playing the song dies out.
The makeup artist, Edgar Vazquez, was inspired by the Burton film and wanted to make them look even more animal-like, but that never happened because the fake teeth hurt the actors and the contact lenses made them look scary.

Revisiting The Lover Diaries x ME! in a Post-TTPD World
Recently, Taylor has been using the phrase “dear diary” to describe her music on the Eras tour. Prior to the release of TTPD, she was using language like “excruciatingly autobiographical” and “live-streamed public autopsy” - which, in retrospect, seems like a hint towards the concept of TTPD as a “post-mortem.” In changing this language, it stands to reason that she may be hinting at something new.
I started to wonder if she might be pointing us back towards the Lover diaries. She’s also been mentioning the number 4 - “Dear Diary, I felt a feeling for 4 seconds” - and how many Lover diaries are there? 4! Taylor Nation also recently posted about the Lover diaries. (Credit to u/Different_Hedgehog16 for sharing the screen shot in the megathread!)
https://preview.redd.it/5hoae7tyrg5d1.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc428aa24495806db3c12dc5b53b0878c25f10a7
There have also been theories swirling that we might get a redo of the Miss Americana documentary, like this post. I’d argue that the diaries and documentary, as longer story-telling mediums, were essential to the fabric of the Lover era as a vehicle for a coming out. And if she were to re-do that coming out, she might also revisit those same story-telling mediums she attempted to use during Lover.
So, I decided to take a look back at the Lover diaries in a post-TTPD world to see what we can glean. There are quite a few interesting things, but what struck me first and foremost were connections to ME! and how those connections intersect with our current position on the road to "meet me at midnight." So, that is what I am going to largely focus on in this post.

Intro: Significance of the Lover Diaries

Taylor’s music has long been branded “diaristic.” But it’s one thing to write diaristic music; it’s another thing to release your diary. Sharing your diary signals a new level of confession, unveiling something that is typically kept private under lock and key.
Of course, the diaries she released are not her literal diary. They are a curated selection of entries she chose to release and potentially edited for public consumption. These diaries are art pieces, packaged together as an accompaniment to the album. And as art, it doesn’t matter how literally “true” the diaries are. What matters is the meaning they convey. I’d argue that these diaries can tell us a lot about the Lover era.
As a concept, the first and most obvious thing the very existence of the diaries tells us is that the Lover era was intended as an era of authenticity and confession. This won’t shock anyone in this corner of the internet, but I think the very fact that she included her diaries to accompany the album lends credence to the failed coming out theory.

Opening the Diary Drawer in the Lover Era

Taylor has never used the word “diary” in a published song, but she did use the word in her poem for reputation, If You’re Anything Like Me:
If you’re anything like me,
You never wanted to lock your door,
Your secret garden gate or your diary drawer
Didn’t want to face the you you don’t know anymore
For fear she was much better before…
But Darling, now you have to.
Here, she describes how she never wanted to lock her diary drawer - never wanted to have to hide parts of herself from the world behind a locked (closet?) door, behind a gate in a secret garden. It’s telling, then, that with her next album release, she unlocks the diary drawer. This signals an intention to step out from behind the door and into the daylight.
The next few lines of the poem are relevant here, too. She describes not knowing herself anymore and not wanting to face herself - a self who she fears was much better “before.” Before what? Before she became estranged from herself, perhaps? But now she must face this self she is estranged from. The implication seems to be that after she locks the door, she is alone with herself - and then she must face herself. This idea of facing herself in isolation is reinforced in the next stanza where she speaks of her “own little golden prison cell” and says, “But Darling, there is where you meet yourself.”
She describes meeting herself behind a shut door on reputation. And Lover, in opening the diary drawer, represents an invitation for the world to meet her, too.
Of course, it doesn’t happen, and she finds herself shutting the door again. In that light, it’s interesting that this conception of what it means to meet yourself seems quite opposite to how she describes it in the Midnights foreword: “For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching - hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve…we’ll meet ourselves.” On Midnights, she isn’t shutting the door to meet herself. She is stepping out with lanterns lit to search for herself. And her hope to meet herself is directly tied to an invitation for the audience to meet her, too: “Meet me at midnight.” This shift might suggest a realization that the isolation of the closet is in fact not a place where one can truly encounter themselves. You don’t meet yourself in a prison cell; you lose yourself. To find yourself, you have to open the door. The diary drawer.

Lover as a Return to Herself, Through the Lens of the Lover Diaries

The diaries are a central part of the Lover foreword, the very first thing she mentions. She seems particularly drawn to the diaries from her childhood and teen years; she writes, “What shocked me the most was how often I wrote about the things that I loved.” This becomes her central inspiration for the concept of the album, as she goes on to explain it: “This album is a love letter to love itself.” And further, it serves as the inspiration for a decision she describes making about how she wants to define herself and her identity: “I’ve decided that in this life, I want to be defined by the things that I love - not the things I hate, the things I’m afraid of, or the things that haunt me in the middle of the night. These things may be my struggles, but they’re not my identity.” These words are so central to the thesis of the album that they bookend it: opening the album in the prologue and closing it in the outro of Daylight. And these words are rooted in the spirit of the young Taylor she describes encountering in the pages of these old diaries.
Lover Foreword
This is especially interesting when we think about the death of the “old Taylor” in reputation. Lover was an era of rebirth - not of the Taylor Swift personas she killed off in the reputation era, but of her original self. It was a return to her roots. A return to herself. Consider this quote from Rolling Stone where she says she’s never “leaned into the old version of myself more creatively than I have on this album.” (Credit to u/courtingdisaster for this find!)
https://preview.redd.it/mmn5p2vbug5d1.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb876b96cfa6a1a0734cbdae4882d6a034ff3a2e
This proves out when examining the contents of the diaries. The entries she chose to include are primarily from her youth. There are 51 total entries across the four diaries, spanning 2003-2017. Of these, over half (51%) are from her teenage years. Another 45% are from her early 20s (ages 20-24). Only two entries are from age 25+.

The Lover Diaries and ME!

Looking at the contents of the diaries, the first thing that jumped out at me was the quote she included on the first page of Diary #1 and signed “Me!”
Opening Page of Lover Diary #1
It seems reasonable to think that the concept for ME! was inspired, at least in part, from this process of combing through her old diaries and facing the person she once was. These first pages from age 13 represent a celebration of herself. Her pride in her doodles, branding them “Taylor designs 2002.” Her belief that she would be a big star, that her signature might be worth money someday (hehe). Defiance in the face of anyone who would tell her she “[doesn’t] deserve what [she] want[s].” And a celebration of her words, featured right alongside Kenny Chesney’s. There’s a youthful wisdom in these words that she seems to return to in ME!, a song about celebrating everything that makes her who she is.
There are also visual parallels between the diaries and the ME! lyric video. The ME! lyric video is stylized as handwritten; we actually see her hand writing these words, and she is writing on paper with a Taylor Swift letterhead to boot, leaving no doubt about whose words these are. This in and of itself feels noteworthy, given it’s not a typical style for her lyric videos. The handwritten ME! lyrics tie the song directly to the diaries, also handwritten.
ME! Lyric Video
Additionally, the lyric video is full of sweet childlike doodles that also parallel the diaries - hearts, stars, smiley faces. Some of the imagery from her diary doodles also makes it into the ME! music video.
Left: Young Taylor in the Lover Diaries Right: ME! Lyric Video
If you’re in this corner of the internet, you likely understand ME! as deeply meaningful to the Lover rollout. And these ties to the Lover diaries, which Taylor made central to the thesis of the album in the foreword, lend further credence to ME! as one of the most important touchstones of this era. ME! as a self-love anthem inspired by and dedicated to her younger self, who once wrote: “The world is as big as you make it, never be shameful to fly.”
\"Never be shameful to fly.\" - Taylor Swift in the Lover Diaries, age 13

Connections to TTPD

The Lover era was characterized by a handwritten aesthetic - in the diaries and beyond, most notably in the ME! lyric video. This handwritten aesthetic is not typical for Taylor's work, but where do we see it pop up again? On TTPD, of course. The summary poem is specifically printed to look handwritten, but with none of the flourish of the Lover era. The color has been drained out.
TTPD Summary Poem
We also have a call-back to the Taylor Swift letterhead from the ME! lyric video in the TTPD era's "From the Desk of Taylor Swift." The fonts are not identical, but similar enough to suggest a connection. Both albums come directly from the desk of Taylor Swift.
Left: ME! Lyric Video Letterhead: \"Taylor Swift, Born in 1989, Loves Cats\" Right: Letterhead from TTPD Journal (Merch): \"From the Desk of Taylor Swift\"
These are of course not the first call-backs to ME! and Lover that this community has noticed on TTPD. This is an addition to a long and growing list of connections. I'd argue this is a noteworthy connection because, fundamentally, the excavation of the Lover Diaries - a central part of the fabric of the album and especially of ME! - represented a return to her most authentic self, before she learned civility, and an invitation for the public to encounter that authentic self emerging from her unlocked diary drawer. The Midnights foreword suggests we might now be on a mirrored journey towards "meet me at midnight," and TTPD might represent a pit stop on that journey. (If you're interested in more thoughts on this journey and how it connects to diaristic confession, I wrote this post about it!)
And if that's the case, if Taylor is coming back for herself, it just might mean coming back for the Lover Diaries and the 13-year-old girl found in their pages, who once wisely said, "May you never be scared of goodbye." Judging by a recent mash-up, perhaps Taylor is preparing to take her advice: You're on your own, kid, you always have been. So, take a deep breath as you walk through the doors.

2024.06.09 06:44 VeryFinalAvenger M4F - USA/Anywhere. Searching for my soulmate - the most amazing woman in the world.

Hey there! Im honestly just posting this instead of journaling today. I dont expect to find anyone through reddit, but there always is a chance as love can come from anywhere... There is a quote that goes "put two ships on open sea without wind or tide, and they will find one another." To be quite honest, this word is filled with turbulence, wind and tide... and even now im not sure who I am searching for, so consider this post a message in a bottle.
About me...
I am on the younger side, 6ft with brown hair (slightly blonde at times), jade eyes, tan skin and a fit/athletic build but not super muscular (around 185-190 pounds). I have a well groomed stubble/beard (like Chris Hemsworth) I take care of myself and have one tattoo on my chest. My personality type is INFJ-A. Being that personality type I can basically change myself to fit the person I am around - so for example I can be quiet or outgoing depending on what the person I am around wants. I am not the smartest person (123 IQ - so im not that unintelligent either) but I have very high EQ and am thus a very discerning and intuitive person.
I have many hobbies... I love watching movies (all genres but Asian romantic dramas/comedies are my favorite by far), watching tv shows and prank videos, listening to music (pop is my favorite genre and Ava Max is my favorite singer by far!), studying the film industry, psychology, philosophy, eschatology and various other things. I love self defense, having meaningful conversations, meditation, and long walks at night. I am a homebody and prefer to relax in bed but I can easily go out and hang somewhere like a mall or party if there is something to do. Swimming is also a hobby of mine but I live in a small town in the desert so its not something I can do often.
I have many skills including - self defense, psychology, mentoring, counseling, writing, drawing, poetry (only when im in love), dancing, singing, survival, housework, cooking, cleaning, strategy, gaming, and anything with pets or babies. I have others but those are what comes to mind. Ive lived alot of places (over 60), have accomplished many things and have seen and heard many stories.
My line of work is the most important thing in my life, and my only non-negotiable that I am not willing to change (meaning I will change EVERYTHING about my life otherwise should you but ask). I work in trauma/rape/human trafficking and delinquency recovery for young girls. This job takes all my time four days a week and is something I put my entire heart into. There is no terror greater in the world than that of rape and sexual trauma and I am doing everything I can to try to help so many innocent women recover from its effects.
One day I am going to launch a nationwide and eventually global organization that will protect anyone who comes through our doors 24/7 and will work in any country to eliminate sexual violence by any means necessary - including standing against tyrannical governments. This will take time and one day may even cost my own life, but I will do anything I can to end this horror on the world. I understand if this type of lifestyle is not something you want to get involved with or support - or if you are looking for someone famous and rich, if that is what you want I wish you all the luck in the world - but that person is not me.
As for what I believe about relationships - I firmly hold that respect, loyalty and communication are the foundation of any healthy and loving relationship - and without them being given from both parties, a relationship is doomed to fail. I also am a huge believer in duality, that we have dualistic emotions, tendencies, emotions i.e. ying and yang inside all of us - and in order to love someone fully you have to understand and accept the entirety of a person, not try to change them or love them in "slices" so to speak. Ill include a link of some articles ive written about relationships-
https://orderofarstrena.wixsite.com/arstrena/meditations/categories/reflection
About who I am looking for... My Standards
So the only true non-negotiable is attractiveness (being beautiful/stunning) and being faithful. I have no other standards, pet-peeves or "personality requirements" - I will accept you for who you are and will not hold to you to act a certain way, make me feel a certain way, meet certain requirements, have a certain "personality" I enjoy etc. As long as you are the same woman I fell in love with, as long as I wake up to the same eyes every day that is all I care about, and aging doesnt matter to me - we all age in time, and my love for your beauty will never change. I will stand by your side through anything - crime, pain, hardship, sickness, disability, anger, abuse etc... as long as you never cheat on me. One thing about me is I am loyal for life, meaning once I fall in love with someone - and she gives me love in return, I will never be attracted to anyone else ever. I am "korsavalae sexual" - basically meaning I am loyal for life to the woman of my dreams. "Sata-pai" is an ancient egyptian word meaning I am your chosen because you are my chosen/you are my chosen because I am your chosen. I believe strongly in that term.
About who I am looking for... My Preference
All this being said, just because I am open to fall in love with any woman as long as there is basic attraction doesnt mean I dont have preferences. To be honest I am looking for a woman as amazing and beautiful as Ava Max... and if I cant find someone like her I would rather be alone. As I said in my post title I am searching for the most amazing woman in the world. Dont get me wrong, everyone is beautiful and amazing in their own way... I am just searching for someone extra special.
I also prefer the "bad girl" personality type, which is so hard and rare to find as most women fall into the opposite category... law abiding, hard working, genuinely good people. This is just a preference as I am open and sometimes attracted to sweet women, but I prefer bad girls i.e. offset moral compass, hot, parties like crazy, lives life by her own rules, dangerously minded, vindictive if betrayed, resourceful, skilled, sensual and sexual when aroused, reads others like an open book, able to change to get what she wants, a partner in life and crime.
On top of that... I only really want someone with a "yandere" personality type - meaning someone who is loyal for life, falls hard in love and lust, devoted to her love to the point of obsession, would rather die or do anything than lose her lover, will be sweet and loving to her partner, and takes care of who she loves. This obviously is not the way most people are, and is not the healthiest mentality - which is why it will never be a standard I hold my partner too... its just my deepest wish, I mean if someone isnt willing to lose themself for you, then there will always be a limit to their love.
Final comments...
Again I do not expect to find someone like this, but if one does not reach for the stars, what is even the point of looking up? As for me, I am willing to give my everything - my heart, mind, soul to the woman I love. Whatever she wants I will be, whoever she is I will adore - I am very affectionate but will give all the space my partner wants and needs. Every moment I am not helping others would be devoted to her love. I never get angry, cheat, or strike out in anger. I will support whatever her dreams are and will be there whenever she needs. I believe that the core of love is devotion - and I am willing to devote the entirety of myself - even my own life if she asks. I do not expect the same in return and know that most likely I will always be willing to give far more than I ever receive, and I am okay with that. The reason for that is simple, love is the core of my being. I believe a healthy relationship means listening and searching out the wants and needs of ones partner, treating every day like it is the last we will have together and pouring my heart and soul to her happiness.
Thats all I have to share, again I totally understand if you are searching for something different, or even think I should want something different. We all have our hopes and dreams, and this is mine. I hope each person reading this finds the partner of their dreams too.

2024.06.09 05:41 Absurd_Turd69 The Sanzaban Circus: A New Area for Jigow!

A quick note: this has taken inspiration from various blogs, reddit posts, and other content. Also, it's designed for my expanded Festival of Merit, so the Main Event is intended to occur on the 3rd day (just before the final event at the Festival). This can be easily adjusted. Also, its designed to include some NPCs from previous sessions in my campaign, so I'd recommend doing the same (most can be easily swapped out).
The Arrival Some late-night workers say they heard strange sounds coming from outside town, and others say they started seeing weirdly dressed folk walking about the farmlands. Overnight, the eve prior to the Festival, a circus sprung up outside of town, and along with it came posters all over Jigow.
Alastar Sanzaban Alastar Sanzaban is a fully-winged human-born aasimar, where his left half is pure white, pupils, hair, skin, and all, and his right half, similarly black. He is the proprietor of the wandering Sanzaban Circus, and hires all kinds across Xhorhas for his establishment.

Events & Stalls

The following are a list of key events and stalls in the Sanzaban Circus.
Gnomish Strongman This small gnome takes great pride in his powerful physique and styled facial hair, showing both off with pride and arrogance.
Brahd the "Vampire" This "vampire" is in fact an ordinary high elf who's using thaumaturgy to make his eyes red, and prosthetic teeth for fangs. The "mirrors" that don't show his reflection are in fact just painted pieces of wood, and he stands in a dark room, where it is nearly impossible to see his shadow.
Zoltar the Fortune Teller This robot invented by far-flung gnomes has a coin slot, where circus-goers can insert a single gold coin to have their fortune's told. When a player has their fortune read, roll 1d6. On a 1-5, they some something wildly inaccurate, but on a 6, they say something eerily accurate.
Flame & Blade The left head of this ettin (Blaine) breathes fire, while the right head (Tod) eats swords
The Haunted House Toward the edge of this circus, a creepy old mansion sits on a house. Inside, almost every piece of furniture or object has been wrapped in chains and thrashes with anger, as they are all in fact mimics. The tour is guided by a reborn orc named Raggok who is so rotted and zombified the mimics have no interest in him.

The Main Event

The following events occur in order as the main event happens (on night 3 of the Festival)
Owlbear Tamers Coming from the nearby Vermaloc Wildwood, the goblin twins Tim and Tam have managed to tame a scarred and brutish owlbear they now call Chompsky. They have Chompsky jump through flaming hoops, speak like a parrot, or even eat Tam (though Tim just feeds Chompsky some rotgrass to throw Tim back up).
The Dry Guys This trio of mephits (William, Thomas, and Boris) were picked up by the circus not long ago, and now they are pat of a stand-up routine. They have very dry humour.
Epoch the Magician This grey-skinned tiefling has his horns and body bedazzled with jewels, gold rings, and tattoos. He performs acts of slight of hand combined with minor illusions and other such magics to evoke wonder and awe from his audience.
Iliana the Ice Witch For the final event, the circus-goers are told to rug up, as the entire world around them turns ice-cold. A drow woman dressed in blue weaves a beautiful tale of romance, and drama through her manipulation of ice magic that brings the audience to tears.

2024.06.09 03:54 possessiveprincess I want to get a TØP tattoo, please help?

I have been listening to this band since way before middle school and am still listening as a high school graduate. They have saved my life multiple times where ive been on the verge of taking it. Their albums heal me. The song snap back is really special to me. I wanted to get some lyrics or maybe the name of the song across my wrist with a ; incorporated. I have tickets to their concert in October and think it would be absolutely incredible to get it tattooed in Tyler’s and Josh’s handwriting, although I know thats unlikely. I’m making this post so it hopefully gains some artists who would wanna design a small tattoo for me inspired by the song. (and maybe reaches them because i need them to know how much they absolutely mean to me.) If you guys could share this around and maybe draw some inspo for me id be so grateful. (If I use your art for my tattoo I will compensate you :) <3)

2024.06.09 03:40 BirdmanDodd Met my childhood hero and cried

Met my childhood hero and cried
I met Peter today at NFCC and cried
Today my sister and wife took me to Niagara Falls Comic Con in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
I am disabled and traveling is remarkably hard and usually expensive. This is the first convention I have been to since I had my left leg amputated in 2017.
I was offered the chance to go to NFCC and was amazingly surprised that Peter was a guest. So we bought photo ops and tickets and rented a van and flash forward to today.
I got my photo op first today and Peter was amazingly gracious and kind. He even gave me a nice squeeze on my shoulder and got down on my level in my wheelchair. What really was the transformative experience was what happened in the autograph line.
The room was packed and Peter was between, Robert Patrick and Edward James Olmos. The line was very crowded and some people were less than kind BUT NFCC did an astounding job. The con staff put me in a good place in my wheelchair so that i could easily get in line and meet Peter.
After 45 minutes, i was able to finally able to get up and meet Peter. His handler asked me what i’d like Peter to write on my Arrow video 4K special edition insert poster and i said “Something inspirational”.
Peter recognized me from me from before and I said Hello and he asked me why I wanted something inspirational.
“Dr Weller, you are the hero that I needed to have as a child. You taught me the value of Protect the innocent and to be a good person and to do the right thing, always.”
I have met celebrities before as i work in media but today was different. Today, i was before my hero and i was a 5 year old kid.
He smiled at me and said, let me share with you my favorite quotes from the movie as he signed my poster. I thanked him profusely and shook his hand. If i could have stood up, i probably would have asked for a hug even if it was cringy.
I know its childish and stupid but today, i needed a win from a rough few weeks and arguably the last few years.
Peter made me feel like a child again and for a magical few minutes, i actually cried tears of joy.
I know i’ll probably never get a chance to meet him again but today was beautiful and i just wanted to share it.

2024.06.09 03:34 TaxTango MMC Spotlight - The Unhinged Psychopath

Introduction

Given the nature of RH Novels, there are a lot of LIs, and as someone who has read many RH books in the last few years, I have seen a lot of unique LIs but also noticed that most MMCs follow a few tropes.
So, I have decided to make a series of posts highlighting some of my favorite tropes and iconic (or my favorite) LIs that fit them, with this being the first one.
(This will have direct book quotes and a lot of spoilers. Proceed with caution)

Who is The Unhinged Psychopath?

The Unhinged Psychopath is one of the most popular tropes in RH books. Usually found in Dark Romance and Urban Fantasy, the Unhinged Psychopath is probably the easiest trope to distinguish. They are usually impulsive men, who have little to no morals and a penchant for discarding people's lives with no remorse.
Do you remember reding a book, where there is that one character that is always playing with a knife? Or maybe you remember reading a character's POV that had the weirdest train of thought? Or, you were reading an Urban Fantasy book that happens in an academy, and suddenly a character is described as wearing clothes that could be taken from Hot Topic. Perhaps, there is a character that gives a very cheery monologue, clashing with the unhinged content of said monologue.
Well, there is a big chance that this LI is the Unhinged Psychopath. While not all of the MMCs in this category have all of these traits, they are very common. They are also going to be usually feared oand treated cautiously by the other MMCs, with some even warning the FMC about the unstableness of The Unhinged Psychopath.
Since this is my list, my requisite to put a MMC in here was that he had to, at least once, make me have this reaction.

The Spotlight

Damien from Fate Hollow Academy
Pain fueled my magic, and I got pleasure out of seeing others suffer.
But for the first time in the twenty-six years I’d been alive, pain made my skin crawl. Maybe it was because I hadn’t inflicted it. Knowing how to create pleasure from pain was something I was good at. Maybe I could teach her to do the same. She needed to learn that pain can empower.
I stalked through the shadows and into room one-zero-three. Something about that wolf named Grayson caused my little bird pain, and I wanted to paint the walls red with his blood. I’d cut off his dick and present it to her on a fucking platter.
(Damien's POV - Term 1)
Probably one of the most iconic Unhinged LI's in RH novels. Damien is a Pain/Shadow Demon, that needs to cause others pain to get his powers recharged. He also has a traumatic past, that made him hate and distrust humans. Those two things make for a very disturbed individual, who throughout the whole series is a lunatic.
From maiming people left and right, to his Hot Topic sense of style, Damien has become a very popular character, that has probably inspired more than a few RH LI's in the past years, something that earns him the spot on this list.
Highlight
He reached into his pocket and grabbed something before holding his hand up with something inside it. I opened my palm under his hand and he dropped a bone.
To be exact, he dropped Grayson’s pinky bone.
My mouth dropped, and I blinked once, twice, and a third time before shutting it. “You took his pinky bone and gave it to me?”
“I made him suck it clean,” he told me, his eyes twinkling. “Turn it over.”
I gripped it in between my thumb and index finger and flipped it over to reveal a white wolf with its head cut off carved into it.
(Wren's POV - Term 1)

Arion from All The Pretty Monsters
My eyes dart to the top of the stairs when a familiar, shirtless man dressed only in a pair of sweatpants that barely hang on his hips starts dancing his way down them, licking blood off his fingertips as his head tips back. He dances up two steps, and then he dances back down the rest of the way, his eyes closed as he moves toward us with the beat of the music.
His eyes open and hone in on mine, sending a trickle of painful awareness and dread coursing throughout me, just as the song changes. A wicked smile curves his lips as he keeps dancing his way down them, hips moving in a salsa rhythm in beat with the music.
(Violet's POV - Gypsy Blood)
Arion is a vampire that has no soul and was kept in a coffin underground for more than a century. So, to no one's surprise, he is not the most well-adjusted man in the world.
He gains a spot in here because first, I love his official entrance/meeting with the FMC. In this household, we love a camp king. And, secondly, his whole history of absolute devotion to his ex-girlfriend (and then the FMC) and friends is just insane. The more the story went on, and the more Arion kept talking, the more I became absolutely flabbergasted by this character (still love him).
Damien and I both swing our gazes to the beta I have penciled to the wall now that he’s released the illusion. And by penciled to the wall, I mean I’ve stabbed two-hundred-and-forty-three slightly long pencils into key places on his body to pin him there. He’s on his tiptoes, and if he steps down, they’ll all snap and we’ll have to start all over again.
“They still need a few more inches of length for this process to be less tedious. It wouldn’t hurt them to be a little stronger, too. Still superior craftsman ship, though,” I say as I lift up the pencils that haven’t spilled off the desk.
(Arion's POV - Gypsy Freak)

Savage from Her Vicious Beasts
“Hold my chicken.”
“Rooster,” Xander corrects, accepting the black bird.
I scowl at my pack-brother because he can take his private school education and shove it up his big dragon ass.
“His name is Eugene,” I snap. Patting said chicken on his red head-frills, I turn back to the trembling cashier of the Opal Feather. The sight of us always makes these humans piss their pants. A dragon, a wolf and a shark walk into a luxury store and, well…they all know what comes next, I suppose.
Or it could be the blood still on my teeth and the bare skin of my torso. On a hunt, I only stop for lunch, you see. Lunch being the two birdie security guards now lying on the shop floor behind me.
(Savage's POV - Her Feral Beasts)
While this series has only two books and a prequel out as of now, Savage has already been solidified as one of the most unhinged LIs that I have ever read about. As, a mostly feral, wolf shifter who is also part of a gang, Savage is an impulsive man, that lacks morals and common sense, making for some hilarious scenes, despite how disturbing his actions can be.
He get's progressively unhinged (and weird) as the story goes along, and I doubt that will change in the future books.
Highlight
I position the final explosive at the base of the anima dorm and beckon to my little leopard friend to follow me as I move back. I can’t very well make sweet love to my beautiful regina if I’m blown to pieces now, can I?
...
The Forklift Brothers spent a little time distracting the guards with a student who “managed” to get his entire arm stuck down a toilet. Bob’s your uncle and now I’m ready to go.
“Ready, spotties?” I ask the gathered felines. “On my count—”
One of the kits whose name I don’t care to know gives me a panicked look under his comb over. “But, Mr Fengari, there are girls in there.”
“Yes,” I say, not so patiently. “But the prettiest one is far beneath the building. This is the way I get to her.”
Pickle, one of the nerdy leopards who made the bomb, clears his throat. “Sir,” he says nervously behind his protective goggles. “Should we, er… give them a chance to get out?”
“Who?” I frown disapprovingly at him.
“Um… the other animas?”
“Oh,” I say slowly. I forgot about other people for the moment. Correction. Didn’t care about them for the moment. “Hear ye, hear ye!” I broadcast into the minds of all the animas in the old building. “Get out of the anima dorm in one minute because I’m about to blast it up to the Wild Mother herself!”
(Savage's POV - Her Rabid Beasts)

Caspian from Myths and Monsters
Now, Caspian is not as well known as the other MMCs on this list, but, to me, this would not be a complete list without his inclusion. I did ponder if I should add him here, or on a future list of the more calculist psychopaths, but this man goes off the rails during the actual book events, so he stays here.
Now, why is here in this list, you ask? Well... Is he an obsessive monster? Yes. Does he turn into a rockstar, and as soon as the FMC is interested in him, discards his band and goes camping across the US with her? Also yes. Commits mass murder in the name of the FMC? Check. Tries to BITE OFF one of the other MMC's arms? Actually yes.
Highlight
Flip— Caspian tackled me to the ground, slashing his claws at my face. I bit into the cigarette as I threw my arms up, trying to protect my head from his attack. I felt a sharp pain in my arm and yelped.
He fucking bit me! I grunted and rolled. He fell into the dirt beside me but kept trying to claw and bite me like a damn cat. I looked no better, batting at his hands and face like I was trying to play-fight a kitten.

Enzo from Kept
“Fucking skank,” Eddy spits out, even as he trembles. “Talking to the cops.”
“Oh,” I breathe in delight, wiggling the blade a little until his chin is tilted high in the air as he works to avoid it. “I’m not a cop, Eddy boy.”
I feel the jolt as he jerks against the needle I slide into the soft flesh of his stomach, a high-pitched grunt leaving his throat.
“Who the hell are you, then?” I love this part. Leaning in, I press my lips right against his ear.
“I’m Batman. Welcome to Gotham City, bitch.”
(Enzo's POV - Kept)
While making the list, I knew that I needed some representation from a Contemporary book, but I couldn't choose _who_. And then I remember the Batman scene, and that was it. I know that me putting this man instead of a more popular MMC will be controversial, but his POV, or even his other scenes were just...He is just so fucking weird. I can't even choose which moments to highlight.
"She’s ours, and I’m taking her. Pull your head out of your ass, Ryder. She was fucking made for us, and I’m not letting her go. I don’t give a flying fuck what you and Maverick have to say about it.”
He shoves past me towards the door.
“Or her, come to think of it. None of you get a fucking say in this. Pick her or don’t, but I’ve made my choice. She’s not going anywhere.”
(Ryder's POV - Kept)
Enzo is a psychopath that redirects his murderous intent to only evil people, such as pedophiles, rapists, men that are violent to their partners, and other scum of the earth. He still has a few screws loose, and it's consistently unhinged throughout the book. He doesn't mask it, it's not a slow burn. From his first scene, you know that you will be on a wild ride during his POVs.
Highlight
“Nobody else touches what’s ours.” He says “I will kill them, prey. I will kill them slowly, and then I’ll fuck you on top of their corpse. Tell me you understand.”
(Zella's POV - Kept)

Lorcan from The Fifth Nicnevin
“You’re my redcap.”
He beams, showcasing a mouth full of sharp teeth. With one hand, he pulls off his cable-knit hat—which is as blood red as his species suggests—and waves it in front of him with a flourishing bow.
“Lorcan, or Lore, if you prefer. Not Daddy, though, I’m not into that.”
(Rhoswyn's POV - Beyond the Faerie Gate)
Lore is an underfae, more specifically, a redcap, a fae species that need their hats to be bathed in blood regularly or they will die, they are known for being ruthless and violent. And, Lore is one of the most famous ones, being thousands of years old and an ex-assassin of the Autumn Court.
Everyone is wary of this man, for good reason, and his thought process is absolutely hilarious sometimes. My favorite scenes involving him are when we are reading from any of the other MMC's POVs since they are always just weirded out and flabbergasted by Lore.
Lorcan, on the other hand, doesn’t. “Are you really surprised that she’s special?” He blinks into a different chair. “She’s perfect.”
I wish I was a psychopath. I imagine that life without giving a fuck would be simple.
“The nobles are going to freak,” Jaro shudders. “Regular fae necromancers are treated with suspicion, and their power is limited to whatever they’re born with. Hers…”
“She could raise an army of the dead using her connection to the Goddess,” I confirm.
“Pretty Rose has thorns.” Lorcan looks almost… aroused by the idea.
His pupils are blown wide, and on his head, his knit cap springs upward into a stovepipe hat in a disturbing display that makes me grimace.
To a redcap, I suppose learning your mate has the capacity for untapped slaughter and bloodshed would be a turn on. But the visual was just unnecessary.
(Drystan's POV - Beyond the Faerie Gate)

Honorable Mentions

Vincent from Saint View Psychos - Vincent fans, I'm so sorry... I love him so much, but he is only 50% psycho.
Everyone from Darkmore Penitentiary - I really wanted to put someone from this series, but I couldn't choose which of the MMCs was more unhinged, so, unfortunately, they were all relegated to the Honorable Mentions. Suffering from sucess, I suppose.
Jude from Dance Butterfly, Dance - He is very kooky, but he never fully reaches the full potential of his unhingeness.
West from Four Horseman - Unhinged man, but all of the MMCs are a little psychotic on this series, so oh well.
Boogeyman from Her Feral Beasts - If the next book was out, I'm sure that I would put him on the actual list, since even Savage thinks he is insane.
Oscar from Ironside Acadamy - While he is unhinged, compared to the other people on this list he is very nice, a golden boy, truly. Still putting him in here because he's absolutely hilarious.
Annex by The Blackened Blade - His outfits were so Hot Topic coded. Does the author think that those are cool? Even Damien dresses better than that. Overall, very unhinged, but there is only one book out as of now.
Ryder from Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac - Before the riot starts, this man will appear on another list of mine. Despite him being a lunatic, I decided that he fitted my other Spotlight more.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
So, what do you think of this trope? And do you have any other Unhinged Psychopaths to add to the list?

I have instant regret and need fixing advice
Hey y’all I had a weird kind of impulsive borderline manic night and morning and ended up getting my first tattoo and gave a pdf of a mexican tile inspired flower with leaves on either side. I wanted a pattern type wrap around band on my arm. I had no idea that bands were really hard to get right no one warned me 😭. The artist did one stencil and didn’t show me the new design and I just assumed it was what I had given, they had a really hard time getting it to match up and it took them like half an hour and I did actually see one area where the flower was SO low and asked it to be moved up, and they did but also said that it’s impossible to get it perfect because bodies move and etc etc which is fair but made me not ask for anything else (dumb im dumb) they did it in a different style which is fine and added stuff to it and I feel so dumb because I was genuinely so out of it and nervous that I didn’t take a good look. I do not know what is wrong with me. Anyways first tattoo and I’m terrified of needles so I’m looking away the whole time and now I am left with this. Some parts are fine, i like the flower and leaves part, but the cross looking things look so much like crosses and are not at all well spaced between the flowers. It is literally not even close to being a band and it looks like someone just kind of haphazardly drew it with a pen. The dot border is so random and doesn’t match the main design at all. I honestly thought it was some sort of guide because I said I didn’t want a box border… the inside of my arm is the worst and it matches up like this __— and I am so devastated that I now have this forever): I know tattoo regret is normal and I am a perfectionist is it as janky as I am currently feeling? I have not stopped crying since getting home and I have a consultation with a different place tomorrow and I just don’t know what to do

2024.06.09 00:45 myykel1970 Why "Gimme Gimme Gimme" is a Timeless Comedy Classic*

I’ve been thinking about some of the best British sitcoms, and "Gimme Gimme Gimme" always comes to mind as a standout. For those who might not be familiar, it's a British sitcom that aired from 1999 to 2001, created by Jonathan Harvey and starring Kathy Burke and James Dreyfus. Here’s why I believe it remains a timeless comedy classic:
  1. Iconic Characters: Linda La Hughes (Kathy Burke) and Tom Farrell (James Dreyfus) are two of the most memorable characters in British TV history. Linda’s outrageous, unfiltered behavior and Tom’s desperate quest for acting fame create a dynamic that’s both hilarious and oddly endearing. Their chemistry is undeniable and drives the show’s humor.
  2. Sharp Writing: Jonathan Harvey's writing is razor-sharp, filled with quick wit and hilarious one-liners. The dialogue is fast-paced and clever, making every episode a joy to watch. The humor is unapologetically bold and often risqué, which adds to its charm.
  3. Unconventional Premise: The show’s premise is refreshingly different. It revolves around two mismatched flatmates, each with their own delusions of grandeur and often self-inflicted miseries. The plotlines are wonderfully absurd, yet relatable in their depiction of friendship and the pursuit of dreams.
  4. Bold Humor: “Gimme Gimme Gimme” doesn’t shy away from pushing boundaries. The humor is daring and often politically incorrect, which, while not for everyone, makes it a standout in the realm of sitcoms. It’s a show that takes risks and isn’t afraid to be outrageous.
  5. Cultural Impact: For a sitcom that only lasted three series, it left a significant impact on British pop culture. Quotes from the show are still remembered and referenced today in my daily life . The show’s distinct style and humor have inspired many contemporary comedies.
  6. Nostalgic Value For those of us who grew up watching it, “Gimme Gimme Gimme” holds a nostalgic charm. It’s a window into late 90s/early 2000s culture, fashion, and humor. Rewatching it feels like revisiting an old friend.
  7. Perfectly Cast: Kathy Burke and James Dreyfus are perfectly cast in their roles. Burke’s comedic timing and fearless performance as Linda is a masterclass in character acting. Dreyfus’s portrayal of the flamboyant and often clueless Tom complements Linda’s character perfectly, creating a dynamic that’s endlessly entertaining.
If you haven’t seen “Gimme Gimme Gimme,” I highly recommend giving it a watch. And if you have, what are your favorite moments from the show? Let’s reminisce and celebrate this gem of a sitcom!

2024.06.08 23:48 poppingandlockin Tattoo Removal

I have 6 tattoos - all 6 gotten when I was going through something rough (depression mostly, pandemic and a breakup, etc). The tattoos are mostly song lyrics that really got me through those bad times, and I liked looking at them for the reminder.
However, those bad times haven’t really come around in at least 5 years, if not 10+. I went in for a consult to remove one that is distressing 10 years later and very visible (others not as much). The lady was lovely and I mentioned possibly removing at LEAST 4 of the 6, if not all 6 eventually. She quoted me for the 1, and then for 4 of the 6 if I wanted different packages/do some at the same time to make the process faster for me in the long run. I scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks out and will finalize then.
How has anyone else dealt with this, if you have? Part of me sees it as a clean slate. Part of me recalls all those… not great memories now that I’m not dissociating as much. At the time, I did adore all of them, or else I wouldn’t have gotten them. But now I’m happy and healthy and mostly healed, they don’t bring me as much joy. Which is why I’m in the process of scheduling and doing this. On the other hand, I survived and these are kinda the memories of that? Idk. Just feels weird to think I’ve had some of these for 15+ years and one day won’t.

2024.06.08 23:22 gukville Let's talk about Fall From Grace...

Let's talk about Fall From Grace...
Here is what Stevie has said about the song:
2001:
Fall From Grace is really about Fleetwood Mac onstage— that’s always mostly going to be about me and Lindsey, just about our energy and what a trip it is to be in Fleetwood Mac and walk up there onstage. It’s just, it’s grand, you know? It’s a very grand thing. It’s nothing like your solo career.
Six of the songs from Shangri-la were written on the road. Among them were Love Changes and Fall From Grace, both of which, Nicks says, are “pretty much about” the band itself.
“Fall from Grace,” I wrote on the Fleetwood Mac reunion tour. Because that’s a great place to write, when you’re on tour and everything’s going really well, it’s very exciting; it’s like a big date. You know, it’s like very romantic, very, and you know you’re traveling. And of course, when you’re in Fleetwood Mac it’s a very big deal, so you get the best of everything in Fleetwood Mac. When we go to my solo career, it’s a little cut down, it’s a little cut down.
It’s a little discounted, you know. But the Fleetwood Mac thing is very big, so it’s a very fun place to write. And “Fall from Grace,” was really about um when, Lindsey and Mick and I go up on stage, and how, just how intense it is, you know. And how we do kinda feel like, you know, Queen Elisabeth, Prince Phillip, and Queen Edward, King Edward; oh man, he’s gonna kill me for Queen Edward. Um, it’s such a powerful thing, and when you get up there it’s just so magical and so strong. And so, somehow the poem for “Fall from Grace,” just came outta that.
2005:
Fall From Grace was a formal full-on poem…you know ‘maybe I worked this hard just to make sure you survive’…this was something.. and it doesn’t really matter, of course, I wrote that poem about Lindsey and Lindsey knows that and he doesn’t care. He loves being inspirational and he is and I am to him. So we laugh about that. So I write these really, really heavy poems. I think I wrote most of that when we were out on the road on The Dance.
2009:
Angry song. Probably my angriest song ever. But, it has…it’s angry like ‘don’t jump off that cliff, don’t be an idiot.’ But, at the same time it’s like ‘because I don’t want you to be hurt.’ [Interviewer’s blah, blah, blah]
No, that song’s about Lindsey. Oh yeah. That’s after the Dance. I wrote that in 1998, 1998-99 that’s right after the Dance. [Interviewer: So, he still knows the buttons to push.] Oh yeah, definitely. And he tries not to push them so much now because I really don’t like it and I don’t want to be angry with him now. But he knows how to get to me. But, I’m only saving him in that song. [Stevie quotes song, forgetting some words]
But it basically says, you know as angry as I am at you, I’m really only trying to help you. So at the end when it comes to the end it basically turns the whole thing around. Almost like he does on Never Going Back Again. when he says you know, “I”m never going back again” and blah blah blah but then he says ‘but come around and see me again.’ So Fall From Grace is kinda like that.

My opinion: I love this song and think the melodies and lyrics are perfect! Seriously, I'm obsessed. What are your guys thoughts on this song?

2024.06.08 22:52 BGodInspired Renewed Minds, Transformed Lives: Embracing Change to Overcome Challenges

https://bgodinspired.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/1717879326.png

Transforming Our Minds: A Divine Shift in Perspective

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a cycle, making the same mistakes and wondering why things aren’t changing? Albert Einstein once said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” This quote nudges us toward a profound truth about the necessity of changing our mindset to break free from our struggles.

The Power of a Renewed Mind

To truly overcome our problems, we must allow God to renew our minds. Romans 12:2 (NIV) instructs us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” This verse highlights the importance of allowing God to change our perspective, enabling us to see and solve our problems through divine wisdom.

Seeking God’s Wisdom in Place of Our Own

So, what does it mean to seek God’s wisdom instead of relying on our own? Here are some steps to consider:

Reflection: A Divine Mindshift

Reflect on a time in your life when a change in perspective made a significant difference in your situation. How did God’s guidance play a role in this shift?
Take a moment to write down your thoughts and experiences. How might God be calling you to shift your thinking in your current situation?

Breaking Free from the Cycle

Breaking free from unhealthy cycles starts with acknowledging that our own methods may be flawed. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV) tells us to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” When we submit our thoughts to Christ, He replaces our limited human perspective with His boundless divine wisdom.
By embracing the power of a renewed mind, we allow God to take the lead, and in doing so, unlock solutions to our problems that we never thought possible.

Call to Action

As you go about your week, I encourage you to practice intentional mind renewal. Start each day with a prayer for God’s guidance, mediate on His Word, and seek counsel from trusted believers.
Please share your reflections and experiences in the comments below. How has a change in perspective helped you overcome a challenge? Let’s encourage one another on this journey of transformation.
Remember, it’s never too late to invite God to renew your mind and transform your thinking, leading you to solutions and breakthroughs beyond your imagination.

2024.06.08 21:41 Odd-Tale-7326 Had my first drive with my mother today...

And it was nowhere near as bad as I thought!
Ended up driving 60 miles over the course of a few hours, mixture of city, rural country roads and motorway. It went so much smoother and felt so much easier than it ever did during my lessons, even during my final ones where the instructor just sat there.
When we got to our destination, I asked what she thought of my driving, and she said she wasn't taking any notice, which I'll take as a compliment!
One thing that I think helped was the car I drove today was considerably quicker and better handling than the one I learned in, I used my mother's Nissan Leaf which can do 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds compared to 9.2 seconds of the Mokka-e I learned in. The handling was also a lot better and more confidence inspiring, it was so much easier to place the car on the road despite being impossible to see most of the bonnet from my driving position. After years of watching and reading car reviews, I finally understand what they're talking about!
Another thing I found really nice about the car was the easy access to the speed limiter, it's on the steering wheel so you can quickly put it on and adjust the speed with just your thumb, I found myself using it constantly to keep within the speed limits.
I was also wondering whether I'd regret going automatic only, and after today I'd say absolutely no! There is absolutely no way I would drive anything other than electric, today has cemented that decision in my mind.
If you're interested about what I did for insurance, I used the Veygo app and it cost about £12 for the afternoon. Well worth it IMO!
I'll definitely be stealing the car more often, in fact I ran a quote on her 400hp Audi E-Tron and it was only £5 more for the afternoon, but unfortunately she didn't trust me with it! But there's always tomorrow!

2024.06.08 19:55 sameed_a how to use learning in healthcare?

A handful of years ago, back when my hair was a little less grey, I was working as a junior doctor in a bustling city hospital, clocking 70-hour work weeks and pushing the limits of caffeine consumption. One evening, after an intense 14-hour shift, I was summoned by my senior physician to review a complicated case. The patient was a 60-year-old woman with a myriad of symptoms, but none fitting into the usual diagnostic boxes. Exhausted and admittedly, a little grumpy, I found myself fighting the urge to pass it off as just another case of hypochondria.
Instead, I dug deep into my mental reserves and asked myself: "What would Sherlock Holmes do?" Now, I didn't whip out a magnifying glass and start searching for minute clues, though the thought was amusing, to say the least. Rather, I used the mental model of first principles - breaking down complex problems into basic, fundamental components.
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth," Holmes had said. Fueled by this sudden burst of inspiration, I looked at the symptoms individually, seeking connections that I might have overlooked. After hours of poring over medical literature and jogging my memory of past cases, I finally stumbled upon a rare but fitting diagnosis - it was Hemochromatosis, an iron overload disorder.
The relief and gratitude that filled the room when we explained the situation to the patient and her family could have powered a small city. It was one of those moments that reminded me why I got into medicine - to learn, to solve, and most importantly, to help. It also taught me the value of first principles thinking and illuminated just how versatile mental models can be in healthcare.
P.S. Now, don't start picturing me walking around hospital corridors in a deerstalker hat and pipe, muttering profound quotes. So Tell Me Everything Is Not About Speak Now, But What If It Is? Album Cover and Album Prologue
Well, well, well! That was quite the mash up on N1 in Scotland 👀
I had something else queued up to write next but after that performance, I knew I had to come back to this series!
BTW, If you didn't know that I'm writing a series about Speak Now, and you want to find my other posts, you can click on my name to find them.
In my last post, I realize that i got ahead of myself because I said I’d be doing a song analysis next, but I actually want to talk about the album cover and prologue first.
Disclaimer#1: A lot of what I’m going to write about is what I think happened, not what I’m saying 100% happened. I’m happy to hear other interpretations or if you disagree, that is fine too!
Disclaimer #2: Taylor is an unreliable narrator. That has been established in many different ways, in many different contexts, and with many different examples. If you think something couldn’t have happened because of something Taylor said about an album, or song, I urge you to go back and read the first sentence from this disclaimer.
Disclaimer #3: I have adhd so I’m very likely going to make spelling/grammar mistakes - please accept my apology is advance for that. And for my overuse of commas.(My apology as well for all the additional context my adhd is going to give you in parentheses throughout this post).
Disclaimer #4: I decided not to venture into the ethics of creating public narratives about public people and then packaging that up for your fans to eat up like Taylor likes to do. There is a time and a place for that conversation, but the focus on my Speak Now writing is about might have happened. I also have a hard time having sympathy for John Mayer or Jake Gyllenhaal who agreed to the appearance of dating a much younger woman - which is gross and should not be normalized. Did she cross a line at times - like with Joe Jonas’s ex - maybe, but she was 18-20 when she did this and had no idea where things would end up with her easter eggs. Plus if she felt cornered by her label and the music industry, I have sympathy for that.
At some point, my posts are going to be nothing but disclaimers lmao.
Album front and back cover

Front cover

Back cover
The first thing that stands out to me is the yellow dress of it all.
If Speak Now is the album that started her forced closeting, then the appearance of the yellow dress (when Fearless had yellow themes), is…interesting.
Fun fact: But I’m a Cheerleader (the movie that a lot of people think introduced the concept of yellow as a closeting color to Taylor) was released in 1999.
Fun fact that I’m introducing for no reason whatsoever 👀: The episode of Mad Men that uses the term “lavender haze” aired on October 19, 2008
Purple has a long history in the queer and lesbian community. The most obvious being lavender which is not the purple on the cover.
Fun colour fact: There is a lavender purple.
According to this article, the designer for the original Speak Now dress describes it as a “strapless violet ballgown” 👀
Violet is often associated with lesbians
Violets have been associated with lesbian love since the 6th century, thanks to the work of the greek poet Saphho, from the isle of Lesbos. Much of her poetry centered around the relationships and love between women, who she often described as wearing garlands of the flowers and other plants.
The bisexual.) flag also uses purple
The pink color represents sexual attraction to the same sex only (gay and lesbian). The blue represents sexual attraction to the opposite sex only (straight) and the resultant overlap color purple represents sexual attraction to both sexes (bi).
Yet another fun colour fact: red and blue (which makes purple when mixed together) were the colour choices for Taylor’s next albums after Speak Now
Album Prologue

When I first looked at the prologue artwork I thought it looked like a pride flag, but then I realized that it’s missing purple. Taylor being dressed in purple on the cover then finishes the pride flag.
Maybe this is the first example of Taylor literally flagging what she really felt.
The way I approached the album prologue and subsequent song analysis is to look at the text without taking into account the romantic nature of the songs that Taylor tells us is there. Like I said at the beginning of the post, Taylor is an unreliable narrator and her public narratives have for a lot of people, become such a part of analyzing her work.
I’ve bolded what I want to emphasize.
Back then, Taylor did not speak her truth. Like Laura Dern says in the Bejeweled mv “Speak Not!” and I think that line is in that video for a reason because that is what Taylor did during this time.
I really hope she takes the chance to speak her truth now.
Speak now or forever hold your peace, the words said by preachers at the end of wedding ceremonies all over the world, right before the rows. It's a last chance for protest, a moment that makes everyone's heart race, and a moment I've always been strangely fascinated by. So many fantasize about bursting into a church, saying what they'd kept inside for years like in the movie. In real life, it rarely happens.
Ouch ouch ouch. Looking at these words today, knowing what happened post Speak Now hurts. I can’t imagine then what it feels like to Taylor - especially when she revisited this album and everything else that might have happened during the rerecording process.
Real life is a funny thing, you know. In real life, saying the right thing at the right moment is beyond crucial. So crucial, in fact, that most of us start to hesitate, for fear of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. But lately what I’ve begun to fear more than that is letting the moment pass without saying anything.
I think most of us fear reaching the end of our life, and looking back regretting the moments we didn't speak up.
When we didn't say 'I love you! When we should've said 'I'm sorry. When we didn't stand up for ourselves or someone who needed help.
The pain continues lol. But besides that, she doesn’t assign gender to her first love (while in the sentence before making reference to a boy whose heart she broke).
I think is Scott B. is the mean man and the someone who made her world dark for a while
What catches my attention most of all is “the girl who stole something of mine." Without the public narrative of BTR, that line can be read very differently. It could potentially tie to Dear John and an older woman - which isn’t my read on the song, but my interpretation isn’t the truth. Especially when some people think Dear John and ATW have connections.
It can also be read as the girl stealing her heart. Which is what I thought as soon as I read that line. What stops a lot of other people from seeing the line as possibly queer, is that they feel they already know what Taylor is talking about. So they don’t actually read what she writes. They rely on public stories to do their analysis.
These songs are made up of words I didn't say when the moment was right in front of me. These songs are open letters. Each is written with a specific person in mind, telling them what I meant to tell them in person. To the beautiful boy whose heart I broke in December. To my first love who I never thought would be my first heartbreak. To my band. To a mean man I used to be afraid of. To someone who made my world very dark for a while. To a girl who stole something of mine. To someone I forgive for what he said in front of the whole world.
The first line, I take as directed at Scott B and in this case, it’s not something that Taylor said to him, I think she is writing about what was said to her by Scott B.
The second line I bolded is what I believe encompasses so much from the Speak Now era. Taylor wanted to tell her truth, she planned to tell her truth, but then never got the chance. And I think she is haunted by that choice. We hear that over and over again throughout Taylor’s discography, especially since folklore.
Personally, I have spent a lot of time hating myself for the choices I made when I was young - which isn’t fair, I know, I’m in therapy lol - and given how much bigger in a lot of ways, Taylor’s choices were at this age, I can see why she might be struggling with self loathing as well.
Words can break someone into a million pieces, but they can also put them back together. I hope you use yours for good, because the only words you'll regret more than the ones left unsaid are the ones you use to intentionally hurt someone.
What you say might be too much for some people. Maybe it will come out all wrong and you'll stutter and you'll walk away embarrassed, wincing as you play it all back in your head. But I think the words you stop yourself from saying are the ones that will haunt you the longest.
I mentioned in last SN post that I think the concept for the OG Karma album started with Speak Now. The first line I highlighted makes me hope that she has also been planning a tell book on what she’s endured through the music industry since Speak Now as well. I mentioned this in a comment recently, in the LWYMMD mv, when she supposedly mocks Kim K by saying she’s “keeping receipts”, I want to believe that is a warning to Scott B/Scootethe music industry.
And it also feels like she’s saying she knows she can’t speak now, so she is going to wait for her turn, even if that isn’t what she wanted to do or hoped to do.
So say it to them. Or say it to yourself in the mirror. say it in a letter you'll never send or in a book millions might read someday. I think you deserve to look back on your life without a chorus of resounding voices saying I could’ve, but it's too late now.
There is a time for silence. There is a time waiting your turn. But if you know how you feel, and you so clearly know what you need to say, you'll know it. I don't think you should wait. I think you should speak now.
love,
Taylor
PS: To al the boys who inspired this album, you should’ve known. :)
If Taylor has been planning to come out at various points from Speak Now onwards, I do not believe she will give that plan up even with all the roadblocks and pain along the way.
I just can’t see a world where she will lets everyone who kept her in the closet get away with that.
I’ve shared this quote before when I’ve written about Taylor, but it definitely fits here too. Taylor said this in 2022 at the Tribeca Festival, and I feel like it was a warning to those who think they've won.
And also think that Taylor will stay in the closet forever, or won’t Speak Now about what has happened to her
People greatly underestimate me on how much I’ll inconvenience myself to prove a point if I think I'm right.

2024.06.08 17:58 zzzojka While non-autistic people cash on our autism (autism mom merch, charity merch), I can't imagine an autistic person cash grabbing by doing "autism labour".

I spent my two brain cells on this title! These things are hard to put to words, but I hope I can English out my point of view.
There was a post about "autism high heels" recently that made me feel things, lol. It's mentioning a mother of autistic child selling print on demand merch with "autism acceptance" logo on different goods. I don't blame her for making a living any way she can while caring for a disabled kid - do whatever you need to survive in this economy, dude! But I still have feelings about double standards in this type of commerce and I'll allow myself to discuss them.
This allistic mom can sell "autism heels" because her child is autistic and she's an ally, that money would buy him food. This product's main value is this "autism support" both in terms of monetary support of autistic individuals (indirectly) and overcoming stigma. Autism merch looks appropriate to general public. But if her son grows up to become a cobbler and make some nice shoes, how would it look if he put out his professional work as "autism shoes"? I honestly can't imagine that.
People with disabilities don't make extra profit by adding their disability label to the labour they provide for money. No "diabetic accountant", "cerebral palsy plumber" or "epileptic dentist" is going to get more money simply for the label. I once did autism construction engineering, lol, doesn't it inspire confidence?
I understand there's a difference between autism-themed and autistic-produced product in my previous examples, but I have more.
My birth country has a very beloved allistic managed autism organisation that sells cute/inspirational postcards and items with silly quotes of autistic adults in wonky font. I can't imagine selling my "autistic quotes" as inspirational and cute, deliberately framing how "pure" and "special" I am. Autism seems to be an appropriate marketable product only when removed from an autistic carrier and handled as an observed curiosity by a "normal" person.
I am a professional, autistic, I suffer from stigma and I'd like to be supported and included and acknowledged as an autistic person who creates value. But I can't imagine non-ironically selling "autism earrings" or offering "autism metalwork classes". It would sound comedic and reductive. If anything, it's autistic people who should have been granted support, inclusion and monetary benefits by attaching autism sticker to their work. But instead it is perceived to discredit our professionalism, humanity and agency because of infantalization. While people who use the label on our behalf don't get to compromise their professional image, their clients won't question if they are capable to provide service.
