VR Sim Racing Thoughts

2024.06.09 15:35 Dangerous_Morning286 VR Sim Racing Thoughts

Hi
I am Sim Racing since 6 months now and am doing so in VR only (Quest 3 with link cable). I am not a Pro and I dont have a clue on how to setup cars, tyres etc. BUT I still like to have a realistic driving experience where I do need to improve myself to get better and not some Need for Speed / Forza Horizon casual type of game.
My setup is a Fanatec DD Pro (8Nm) mounted on a Playeat Trophy. I am generally happy with the hardware and did not have issues with it. Software is another thing...
I love sim racing when I am not fighting with technical issues. Theese issues are so annoying that on some days I don't even want to start playing. I will list a few of them.
-Oculus Software taking 5 Minutes to startup, sometimes hangs itself up in setup process -Something always has to update when I just want to play -PC audio not switching to Quest 3 by itself-> having to do it manually everytime I want to play -Sometimes my wheel/pedals are not detected ingame even tho I power them on the same way every time -VR integration in games is absoulute dog shit: Cant use wheel analog-stick to navigate menu. Had to buy a wireless keyboard with trackpad and need to switch between keyboard, quest controller and wheel constantly (depending on game). Why do I even need the quest controller... No way to access desktop view without taking the quest controller and clicking twice to get to it. Hand tracking which would probably solve the issue is not available while using quest link (wtf why?) -Quest 3 battery is trash even when plugged in (max 2-3 hours at max settings) -Constant fiddeling with settings: Cant just swap games as every game needs different kind of fanatec settings. Setting up Force Feedback to feel good is a pain everytime, takes a lot of time and in some games you have to do it even from car to car.
Now to the games I played:
Asetto Corsa: Incredibly annoying that you want/have to use mods to get a decent experience from the game. Initially I spent like 6 hours to get everything looking decent. The need of content manager also implies the need of desktop view and the wireless keyboard between runs. If it works its fine tho. Story mode has a KTM car (level 4 I think) that spins the rear out no matter what I do an locks up steering while braking. Cant procees in story as this level blocks me from getting further. Other people experienced the same thing, its not just me.
Dirt Rally 2.0: Once setup correctly (2 hours of fiddeling with settings) generally very satisfied with the game. One of the better VR experiences I had and not had many problems. Can recommend it.
Asetto Corsa Competizione: Unusuable VR experience on my RTX4090. Getting head ache after 10 Minutes because the picture is very distorted and generally just bad image quality. Gameplay itself feels very good tho. Best force feedback feeling personally.
Automobilista 2: Has to use keyboard to navigate menu. Other than that the VR experience and also driving experience is pretty good. Game lacking story mode content.
iRacing: Incredibly expensive. The game feels great but I hate to play online. This game is for not for me because of the type of content and payment system.
Gran Turismo 7: Fuck Sony. Would love to play it on PC. Would be the exact type of content that I would wish to have from a sim racing game.
Project Cars 2: Couldnt get it to run in VR.
My hopes and dreams for future VR sim racing: I hope that Asetto Corsa Evo which should release to early access in 2024 will have a very very good VR integration. If I start the game, I like to have a wheel-navigateable menu, nice graphics without mods, story mode, good force feedback presets and dialed in presets for different popular wheels in general.
I dont even ask for much and it's a shame that things just dont work out of the box. I get that sim racing and especially in VR does not have to biggest audience and ist still rather niche compared to fortnite and that shit.
When I show my VR setup to my friends and letting them drive they all love it. But they can just sit down, slap on the headset and drive. They don't know the amount of time I had to invest to get everyhting running how it should. I just can't recommend them to get themselves a rig even to I would like to..
I know I am ranting here, but this is just how I feel.
I would love to hear other VR users experience on sim racing in the comments.
Keep racing and stay safe.

2024.06.09 14:27 Intelligent-Drop-311 Can Inverter generator keep my equipment safe during lightning storms?

I have online UPS (inverter UPS) that supposedly providers clean power to my equipment: PC, Audio receiver and projector. There was a lightning storm. I was watching a movie when lightning was discharged - my projector showed only dark for 2-3 seconds when picture came on again, followed by a thunder. A view minutes later another lightning was discharged and again my projector like turned the bulb off for 2-3 seconds and then turned on a again. So I started to worry that OK I should not use my equipment during lightning storms even if I have online-inverter UPS?
What about inverter generator? Is it safe to use it during lightning storms? Its completely off-grid so there should not be any surges when lighting hits. I get these heavy rain lightning storms quite often and I wish to use my PC during storms. Im guessing it is sill highly recommended to unplug all electronics during a lightning strom?

2024.06.09 12:58 Silis23 Saw furiosa

Went and saw furiosa in cinema today after already seeing it pirated online lmao. Really enjoyed it and because I saw it in good quality this time around I could appreciate the visuals and audio/dialogue a lot more .
Was sad to see there was only 8 other people at my screening though but I honestly think that’s just a symptom of cinema dying as the entire place seemed dead :(
Dementus was my favourite part loved Chris’s performance.

2024.06.09 12:44 RebelSimpact Using a stereo dac/amp with (digitally converted) mono source VS using separate DAC + mono AMP to drive a single 100W 6Ohm speaker?

I just bought a budget bluetooth stereo 300W DAC/AMP from an online shop (AIYIMA A07 PRO) and I wanted to use it to drive my sony 100W 6Ohm speaker. But the output only has L / R meaning its a stereo output and there's no mono switch on the amp, I'm afraid I lost out half of the music since most songs nowadays utilize 2 channels speaker. Which one is better & cost-effective solution?
  1. Since this amp has bluetooth, I can set my audio output on android to "mono", so I just need to use one of the channels provided on the amp to get most of the sound.
  2. Buy a separate mono AMP, so my music are automatically converted from stereo to mono.
Note: The budget amp that I bought hasn't been shipped yet and I have 2 days of timeframe to confirm/cancel it. Soo that's why I need some help on this topic. Thanks in advance!

2024.06.09 12:20 Aftel43 Black Project: Synth L, chapter 2: Pursuit.

Running around this complex is draining me, think, think. What should I look for? Thinking as I am running. Whatever is chasing me, is most likely not friendly. Power generator! This complex needs power, it is the darkness. That is sapping away my mental resilience. It is the darkness here, which blurs the line between imagination and reality, of who is chasing me.
I must banish the darkness, to make way for light. Feeling... Emotions, hope? Determination? Clarity? Yes, I remember these. After running for a while, entering to a room with notably more light, I quickly close a hatch door to buy me time to turn back online the generator. There is some technology here which should allow me to do just that.
Finally few screens respond to me tapping the keyboards, strange text... Commenced operating the computer immediately despite it... I, can read it? Make sense of it? I don't recall seeing this text before though... Or, do I? Hatch door received a powerful blow from the outside. Quick. Generator slowly and calmly roars to life. Room, which used to be murky, is now clear.
Hatch door gave in and whoever is chasing me, recovered from the body slam, by rolling and getting up on their feet. This is a new sensation, I feel, like the opposite of me, is closed to me, sealed itself away from me. Yet, I sense that this one is kin to me. It looked around in mildly alarmed manner, this one's form is now revealed to me, I see the three red eyes on him.
Two on either side of the helmet and one on the chest. There is something strange about his armor and helmet though, I focus on those details. This emotion, is strong, anger? Why do I feel anger about those... Tightly attached? No, that doesn't look like armor reinforcement. They separate from the form of the armor and helmet have in common.
It dashes towards me, I take position to receive it, I no longer fear you. As it was about to make contact with me, I crouch and prepare my left arm and shoulder, it reacts to my posture too late. I lift it up as it collides on me, then throw it over me. It landed crashing to the floor, turning to look what it will do, it rolled onto it's stomach and got up.
What should I trust? The anger? Or sense of kinship? Then it projects an emotion, I sense it. Fear? Of itself? It lunges towards me again, dodging it by stepping to the side. Have to think, it stumbled after missing me and crashed to the ground again. I don't want to hurt it... Quite sure, there is no way to knock it out...
It got up and rushes at me to punch me, instinct kicked in, following it, pivoting to my left, positioned me perfectly to counter attack safely, it's punch misses me, but, my own hits with higher kinetic energy. When it hit, it knocked attacker on the floor on it's back, I quickly back off, think, think. I can not allow it to turn off the main power to the complex or whatever the this structure is.
It is too dangerous to decommission this tech used to operate the generator with weapons that I have. Can not deviate my thought on my melee skills. It started to get up again. It's armor is more dark colored, a lot better for blending into dark places, well, except for the three red lights on whole outfit. I continue to back off and it began to chase me again.
Turning around to run, again, continued to think of what I should do, lucky for me, it doesn't have any ranged weapons but, I need to be very careful on allowing it to take one from me. Entering into... Some kind of ground vehicle garage. I see several vehicles, all of them look familiar to me, somehow... I still have some distance to my pursuer.
Although, for me to get these vehicles to work, and the garage door to open, I would need to somehow delay my pursuer. Something... Think as I continue running from my pursuer in the garage. As I pass many things, all of them giving me of thought that they wouldn't be enough to buy me time to do what I need to do.
I don't want to destroy or damage my pursuer too much. I trust the sense of kinship that I feel from looking at it, just enough that I don't want it to restrain me or knock me out. There, that is some kind of heavy duty storage unit. I run towards it and stop right in front of it. Turn to face my pursuer, it tries to knock me over.
I change my footing to knock the kick off the course and grab my pursuer from shoulders, quick turn to face the heavy duty storage unit along with my pursuer. I began to push it inside of one of them, it is still trying to restrain me only. Once I managed to push it right at the middle of the unit, I kick it towards the back wall and close the door on it.
It will hold it long enough, and it can not be opened from inside. I quickly run to the garage door terminal and start operating it. Easier than I expected, I welcome that. Now for the vehicle... There's five vehicles... First one from the rear of the garage, looks very heavily armored and armed. Big weapon barrel, and some kind of machinery...
Quick look towards the garage door opening, reveal an abandoned road, or, something like that? Second vehicle is a wheeled, relatively armored vehicle, armed with lighter weaponry than the first, third vehicle seems to be a scouting vehicle that is very heavily armed...
Fourth, some kind of military vehicle, can't really describe it well... Fifth is a open seat vehicle, with four wheels relatively close of each other, compared to the previous two vehicles... Fourth it is, I need something that is relatively light. Running to it and approaching the door, to the... Well, what I assume is the driver's position.
Door opened on it's own, no time to hesitate, I get and take seat in the vehicle. It comes to life as I enter and I start figuring out how to control it. Those pedals? Maybe one of the three? I picked the one on right and place my foot on it. Color of my leg distracted me, door closed me inside of the vehicle, and it moves forward. The wheel? I place my hands on the sides of it.
Gently turning it to the left and vehicle turns to the left, I return the vehicle middle of the road, full throttle. The road is relatively large, enough for in and out traffic for two of that heavily armored vehicle to go past each other safely. For now, it is just forward. Then I hear set of sounds from the dashboard, from my right.
"Drive to the space port." Something said, that voice... Trust... I feel, glad? I must have heard that voice before... Map began to be displayed behind the wheel... There is a projection of... Numbers... I don't understand them, beyond what the numbers are. Map has a clear line that I should drive along with...
"I need help." Say out loud, what has been bothering me for a while now, ever since waking up. I can't remember, so many things. I... Can speak?
"I know, right now, you are too far away from us, there is people at the space port next to of a blue space craft. They will say to you, earn trust. Answer to it with, family helps." Familiar voice says from the communications device installed into the vehicle...
"Okay." Reply in mildly worried tone. Where have I heard that voice? Why does it make me feel like I can trust it? Why do I feel warm when I hear it? I glance at the map again... Better it than nothing... As, I don't have any plan... I don't even know who, what, why, where I am...
Right as I was about to focus on how I look, I notice other vehicles in a larger road which is part of my path, I quickly avoid few collisions and stabilize the vehicle and go full speed towards the space port, while avoiding the other traffic. I look around myself, this place, looks familiar, to an extent. These gaps in my memory are making me nervous.
Can't this thing go any faster? I really want some answers... The map displays that the space port is not too far away. I notice something on a mirror, a vehicle, it is chasing me. Lights on the vehicle started blinking, crap! It's a law enforcement vehicle and personnel! I really don't want to hurt them... They look strange but, I feel like I have seen them before...
This chase is incredibly dangerous. I keep them good distance away from me, it seems that their vehicle is also reaching it's speed limit. I just need to keep my focus on avoiding other traffic and make sure that the chase is safe for other traffic. Quick glance at the map shows that I need to take an exit ramp on my right.
I steer my vehicle there, going slightly off road to avoid hitting other traffic and slow down, I turn right as the vehicle I drive reached an intersection and, there, I see it, the space port. Now, I just need to be faster than my pursuers. Should be easy. I stop at a parking hall of some kind and get out of the vehicle, because the door opened when the vehicle came to full stop.
I dismount and hear the pursuing vehicle also start decelerating. Kicking the ground, I quickly accelerated to high speed sprint and keep running, to get into the space port building. Once I got in, and deeper into the building, I see the blue space craft, it is large. I quickly run towards it, there is some sentient beings near of it.
I run to them. "Earn trust." One of them says, voice masked by a speaker in the helmet to project the voice outside of it.
"Family helps." Reply to it. The clothing they wear, they look very familiar... The one who spoke to me the key word motioned me to get in, the door into the ship opens and enter the ship, with the other different looking sentient beings than the majority here.
The ship immediately started ascending. "Who are you?" Immediately question them after the door closed.
"Friendly. We can unmask now squad." The one who spoke the key word to me says and began to take off it's helmet. The face, it, looks like, I am somehow related? I started to look at myself, it looks amazing... Yellow, blue and white colors, are most dominant on this armor and base suit. It looks so nice.
Other people here also took their helmets off. Human? That, feels like, what I am... I want to take my own helmet off. "I need a mirror." Say quickly and feel my own helmet to try to figure out how to take it off. I felt it loosen and I was able to take it off.
"Take a seat if you want. Lady, let's just say that you really went through something seriously unusual." He, replies to me, as I took the helmet off and look around. He? Yes, he. Lady? Woman? Why can't I remember? One of the other humans brought me a mirror and I receive it from him gently.
This? Is my face? Who... I am? Slowly, yes, this is me. I, look different? I think...
"What happened to me?" I ask as I am so lost and confused.
"You might want to calm down before I say this to you." He replies to me, not exactly sure of something.
I notice some seats near of me, and I sit down on one of them, I keep staring at my reflection. Silence is so strong right now. "We believe you have been abducted with a convincing cover, to be part of some kind of project." He replies, waiting for me to respond.
I look at him, he is slightly uncomfortable to say what I need to know... "Abducted?" I ask from him.
"Yes, although we need to confirm a couple things first. I need you to do couple things before I explain it further and answer to questions you have. Is this okay?" He asks, he sounds slightly worried how I will respond.
I look into his eyes, I sense, unease and, him knowing... How I feel? Quickly pondered how should I respond... "Okay, just explain what and why you need me to do it." Say slightly uneasy but, comply with conditions.
"I need to first identify who you are, this is an audio recorder, it is connected to a data base of identities of a lot of people. This is an eye scanner, it will help the system to identify, who you are. Do you feel comfortable enough to begin?" He asks mildly worried but, ready for my response, as it showed me two small devices.
"Okay. What do you want me to say?" I ask from him, feeling mildly worried myself too.
"That was more than enough. For this one, I just need you to stare at me, I will place the this device between you and me, over both of your eyes to make the scan. Are you ready?" He replies to me in neutral tone.
I let out a deep sigh and stare into his eyes. "Alright, do it." Reply to him, and keep staring into his eyes. He uses the device just as he described and nodded to me, when it was done. I break eye contact with him, as I feel uneasy.
"You can ask away now, we don't have the search result yet." He replies to me and takes a seat opposite of me. Which question should I even start with?

2024.06.09 12:14 PadjerT Steam sound changes my master volume

Hi all,
I have an issue with Steam that I can't seem to figure out. Every time that I open Steam or run a game through the app it decrease my volume to 50 percent. This is particularly annoying because if I tab out of a game and back in it resets my volume from 100% down to 50% for no reason. This is on windows 11.
I have tried: Updating drivers Checking for windows updates Setting communications to "Do Nothing" Uninstalling and reinstalling Steam Troubleshoot audio
I can't find an answer online, it only happens with Steam and Steam run games for some reason.

2024.06.09 11:53 Brilliant-Lie2123 How a Random Conversation Led Me to Create Mp3Converter AI – An AI-Powered MP3 Conversion Tool

I wanted to share a little story about how a simple conversation turned into the creation of a product that I'm really excited about. This is the story of how I came up with Mp3Converter AI and the journey of bringing it to life.

Discovering the Need

It all started one evening when I was chatting with a friend over coffee. We were discussing our favorite podcasts and music, and my friend casually mentioned how frustrating it was to find a reliable tool to convert different audio formats to MP3. He had tried several online converters, but they were either full of ads, had limited features, or were just plain slow. That got me thinking – surely there must be a better way to do this?

Understanding the Demand

The more I thought about it, the more I realized there was a genuine need for a high-quality, efficient MP3 conversion tool. I began researching and found countless forums and threads where people were asking for recommendations on the best MP3 converters. The complaints were consistent: too many ads, slow processing times, poor output quality, and lack of support for different audio formats. I knew I had stumbled upon a real problem that needed solving.

The Development Journey

Inspired by this need, I decided to create a solution. I spent the next several months diving deep into the world of audio conversion technologies and artificial intelligence. The journey wasn't easy – I faced numerous challenges, from choosing the right algorithms to ensuring that the software was user-friendly and accessible.
There were times when I thought about giving up, especially when I encountered technical roadblocks. But with a lot of perseverance and a bit of luck, I managed to overcome these hurdles. After months of hard work, testing, and tweaking, Mp3Converter AI was born.

Features and Highlights

Mp3Converter AI isn't just another audio converter. Here are some features that set it apart:
  1. **High-Quality Conversion**: Leveraging advanced AI algorithms, Mp3Converter AI ensures that every conversion retains the highest possible audio quality.
  2. **Support for Multiple Formats**: Whether it's WAV, FLAC, AAC, or any other popular audio format, Mp3Converter AI can handle it.
  3. **Fast and Efficient**: The conversion process is quick, so you don’t have to wait forever for your files to be ready.
  4. **Ad-Free Experience**: Unlike many other tools, Mp3Converter AI is completely ad-free, providing a smooth and uninterrupted user experience.
  5. **User-Friendly Interface**: Designed with simplicity in mind, the tool is easy to navigate even for those who aren't tech-savvy.

Your Feedback is Welcome!

Now that Mp3Converter AI is up and running, I’d love for you all to give it a try. Your feedback would be incredibly valuable in helping me improve the tool and make it even better. Feel free to share your thoughts, suggestions, and any issues you encounter. You can try it out at [Mp3Converter AI](https://www.mp3converterai.com).
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. I can’t wait to hear what you all think!

2024.06.09 11:31 Sweet_Evidence3206 HW-S800D Ultra Slim soundbar- Enable Voice Assistant (other than Bixby) ??

So I set up my HW-S800D Ultra Slim Soundbar and my Samsung TV to Smart Things and Google Home and my "simple" goal is to enable the Google Assistant from Soundbar, or even the TV...and to get 100% chromecast built in feature to work properly....and after 2 days and, I think, 6 hours I have tirelessly attempted to accomplish this, I just can't and I would rather firebomb everything at this point.
Any instructions I read from online for GH or ST, and any related topic here, I swear, those specific instruction options DO NOT exist when I follow them.
It's not just Google Asst, but NO voice assistant (Except Bixby) will work at all. Alexa setting in Soundbar settings says "Click to continue setup". I click, and click "Sign In" and it does absolutely nothing. And I can be doing something else on my phone, and suddenly Alexa Get Started screen pops up...I sign into Amazon, click Allow for Smart Things, and it has a seizure. WTF? For Google Asst settings in Home, there are "no active devices" available, and trying to add them (the ones in my GHome) they are not found or located.
I've done everything I can find online, I created a speaker group, for which I'm only allowed to add the Soundbar. Smart Things and GH are linked with all 7 devices (two of which are TVs I do not have anymore, and also CANNOT remove from Home!) My TV is shit and I read the reviews that it's shit. But the soundbar is great, why cant I enable a voice assistant to it? I have Alexa and GA on my Samsung phone and that's it.
For Chromecast built in, my soundbar shows in 2 locations in Home at first. I read to add them to a room. 1st is the soundbar, which is HDMI to TVARC. 2nd, I click on it, says cast audio. Ok, so I guess that's Chromecast, but why no Google Asst?? Why no Alexa? WTF is this shit designed by the average human dumbass?
Soundbar devices settings....Under RECOGNITION: blank. Under GOOGLE ASST: blank.
I know it's a lot to explain and I'm really hoping there is someone who can walk me through this somehow, because in my brain this should be a simple task, yet it is virtually impossible at every turn. The most frustrating thing is that everything I read SAYS THIS WORKS. It doesn't. At all.

2024.06.09 10:36 jjanku Need a good headset

I play on console, both ps5 and xbox series x. I’ve gone through so many headphones over the many years, either because it has problems such as an echo, weird crackling sounds, cutting in or out, being uncomfortable.. Or because the audio quality itself isn’t good enough.
I’ve gone through headsets such as Astro A10s, Steelseries nova 1s, and Hyperx Cloud 2s. I’m currently using some Steelseries arctis 3s as they have almost no problems with mic, comfort, etc. However, the audio quality definitely isn’t the best, which is understandable for an affordable gaming headset.
Does anyone know any good headsets that don’t have any problems, but also a good mic, and great sound quality? I’m willing to spend a good amount on a pair that can last a long time, preferably wired
Sorry if I sound picky, I live in New Zealand so everything is much more expensive, so I’d like to find a headset that can pretty much do-it-all without any problems and one with nice, clear, and precise audio for both story games and online games.

What the hell is going on (Pioneer PL-S40)
I got this turntable from a guy online and a while back already figured out that it was a bad deal for a scratched up turntable in need of optional servicing. I decided to make the most out of it for the meantime.
Recently it had an issue that was bugging me even more and more. It always had this soft buzz to it whenever it played records no matter which part of the signal chain is turned off (of course excluding the speakers), with a high pitched EEEEEEEE mixed in depending on its mood. The metal platter shocked me and whenever I got close to the cartridge/needle it would get louder. But when I connected the turntable into my UFO202 USB pre-amp ADC that was connected to my laptop running through a wall outlet (UK plug), it would stop making that noise and be silent as it could be. I still don't know what's making that noise and would also like help! The noise getting louder when my finger is close to the cartridge puzzles me especially.
After disassembling, ignoring the shocking amount of screws missing, I am wondering what that odd silver card was that is in the pictures too...
Would I need a grounded step-down power converter or something? I'm using a Fosi Audio X2 Box tube pre-amp (US plug) with Edifier speakers (EU plug) powered through an extension cord. Turntable powered through same cord with a step down voltage converter.

2024.06.09 09:28 Fun_Yak3615 Creating a Comprehensive ANKI French Deck / Personal Journey

Creating a Comprehensive ANKI French Deck / Personal Journey
This will be an ongoing journal type thing until I get to approximately B2 in my target language (French) with the goal of making a systematic process as I go along that is comprehensive via only ANKI. I will be doing this in real time, but also retrospectively making improvements so that when I finish, the process will be much more efficient for the next person (as well as for myself for any future languages).
Every 20 hours of ANKI study time, I will take a mock exam to track my progress. The mock exams will go up in level as I pass the previous levels. I have just done my second A1 mock exam at hour 60 (the first was at hour 40). At 80 hours, I will probably do both A1 (to get over 90) and GCSE Foundation to see where I stand on harder stuff.
Below is a visual representation I like of hours to level. The expected amount of hours for each level (A1, A2, etc.) is based on what I've found online. For mocks, A1 is using DELF, A2 onward I will use the UK system as they have easily accessible up-to-date mocks. For A1 I am only taking the Oral and Writing Comprehension sections as they are easily graded solo. For the UK ones, I plan on maybe adding the writing section and grading via the help of GPT using their grading rubric.
The "Contextual Learning" (probably should be named Comprehensible Input) above so far has only been watching a series in French with English subtitles (6 hours). It was pretty much useless in my opinion and I will not be doing that again. I think it only gets useful in the more advanced forms.
Black is guideline - Blue is my result - Lower is better
Note on Mocks:
A1: Mock 1: Barely understood any of the oral. I did not follow the rule of only 2 repeats of the audio, and so my score is actually higher than it should be. Was basically answering off 1-word understandings here and there. Was actually surprised to get a passing score. Note that this process does not put any emphasis on learning things that come up in exams (specific useful vocab like numbers, times, seasons, etc. or topics/sentences likely to be used in basic conversation), which will result in poor early scoring that catches up later on (in theory).
A1: Mock 2: Again, oral was pretty poor. They speak much quicker in these than what GoogleTranslate outputs and with much stronger accents. Again, I didn't stick to the 2 repeat limit for audios. The written section was much easier. I got 2 wrong simply because I rushed reading one section (Should have scored 94% overall, with 2 wrong in oral and none wrong in written). Next time I take a mock, I'll take it much more seriously. No phone, no multi-tasking and go over every question twice (I did this whole mock in 30 minutes despite the 50-minute allocation and repeating audio more than you're supposed to).
So these are the main methods I'm using (with the expressed goal of trying to stick with ANKI throughout):
Grammar-translation method Spaced Repetition
Things I may need or complementary methods:
Transfer method - May be useful at the same time in the early days when you're just trying to get a feel. Comprehensible Input - So my main reluctance here is it's not time efficient. It is fantastic for ease of learning, i.e. you can grind the hours needed for learning without burnout or boredom (actually have fun), but the time spent to progress made isn't great overall. There are people on DreamingSpanish with 1500 hours under their belt at B1-B2 level. That's a lot of hours to get to that level. I may have absolutely no choice but to include it at some point, though, given the limitations of the audio in my current method. AI will probably fix all that soon. One caveat, this inefficiency might be due to HOW people are using their comprehensible input rather than simply the default state of the method. Shadowing - No idea how effective this is.
I'm going to try to be succinct in my presentation of what I've done so far, starting with the current, up-to-date process:
  1. I look up frequency lists and learn vocab according to their order.
  2. I start with verbs as the basis of sentence creation. Each conjugation gets a sentence. (Currently only simple present, decided by a rough frequency list of tenses). Each sentence tries to introduce a new vocab word (based on frequency lists and with the ultimate goal of 3+ representations) on top of the verb itself. For irregular verbs, each conjugation is repeated twice because it doesn't follow normal rules.
  3. I introduce individual words as their own cards only after they have been learned via sentences (IE represented 3 times). This is primarily to memorize the genders, but also as a basic supplementation.
  4. Each word and each sentence has an accompanying audio. It's currently GoogleTranslate because it's free. An obvious improvement would be to use more advanced AI and different voices.
  5. When I answer a card in French, I answer by writing in the sentence and saying it out loud at the same time. ANKI highlights in red what doesn't match with the answer. When I answer the English side of a card, I only say it out loud (I'm not learning how to write English, am I).
  6. I always mark a card as correct when it's in the learning phase until the graduation mark. This is a new change because my accuracy has been too low and I think it's more efficient this new way.
  7. The spacing is 20s, 1m, 3m, 9m, 1d (graduation)
  8. I sometimes mark a card as correct if the mistake is very small or if it's just because I misread.
Mistakes I've made that I'm still fixing:
  1. Making the sentences too complicated. (Pretty obvious why this slows the process)
  2. Not sticking to one tense at a time. (I still have some sentences that are just random tenses and they don't stick as well in isolation)
  3. Introducing individual words as translations before they have been learned in context (much slower to learn for tiny words)
  4. Over representing certain verbs and certain vocab (less efficient and can even confuse you sometimes).
Improvements/focus for the next 20 hours:
  1. Audio only cards. (removing the visual aid to improve oral comprehension and pronunciation - may not be enough)
  2. Introduce compound past and simple past (probably won't get to more tenses)
  3. Introduce grammatical rules to cards when they show up (Some rules are not obvious enough to efficiently learn from context alone (making it hard to remember certain sentences because you don't understand the underlying rule of why it's not a direct translation from English - I'm not sure how I'll go about this yet)
Improving the process:
  1. Continue fixing the mistakes from above (lots of old cards still have issues)
  2. Each card has an ID number representing when it was made. I need to go back and add a secondary ID number for when it *should* have been introduced after retrospective analysis so that the next person (or me when I apply it to a new language) gets a better ordering of the introduction of vocab, grammar, and concepts.
All feedback is welcome.

2024.06.09 07:46 SOULZERO215 Where to post and what would yalls read?

So I've been in the LitRPG scene for a while being a consumer and reading a few audio LitRPG books and have been writing a few stories of my own but don't know what sounds interesting to read/where to efficiently post my work. This is gonna be a rather long post to I'm gonna add a TLDR before every new topic.
TLDR: Where could I post my work that actually might get seen
I've been juggling three story ideas and been writing out the lore and such for them, two of the stories take place in the same world just different time periods and the third takes place in a whole new universe all together. My first question is if anyone knows where I could post my works as I'm not sure where to start. I've seen places like Royal Road, Tapas, Wattpad, and even seen people post works on Patreon. What would y'all who have posted works online recommend?
My second question comes to which of my works sounds the most interesting. I've asked friends and family who knows about my creative works and such and kinda wanted an outside view of what fellow nerds and book dwellers would think of the summary of the three works. I've tried to self critique but mainly grew too numb to know what the stories are about etc, so once more an outside view can help shake things up. I'm only going to list the first two stories as those are the ones I have the most fleshed out.
For the first story, Hounds of Grant.
TLDR; Two siblings and a noble try to uncover the siblings family secrets without becoming pawns of an Arch Demon and other forces that see them more as assets than people.
it's about two sibling named Tyrian and Sophie who's main goal is to find their mother that has vanished out of nowhere one day. They're family is "blessed" by an Arch Demon named Rymoris who wishes so badly to ascend to divinity, however needs followers to praise her first. With their mother making a deal with the demoness decades prior to the siblings birth and with her now gone, the two left with a mountain of problems that come with unwilingly inheriting power from Rymoris that left them both with a curse and a blessing. Sophie the older sibling was cursed with an inept mind, unable to grow in intelligence since the day she inherited the curse however she has a new indestructible body and Tyrian cursed with a twisted eye that can provide all the knowledge possible about anything it perceived however used too much it will drive him mad. Joined by a magical expert and Tyrian's lover, Elleyh, the three set off into the world to carve their own path instead of following the roads made by their family names.
The second story; Skyward Providence: DeathBloom TLDR; Three teenage girls who both own a multi genre music band and are an adventuring team go about life trying to become larger in the world from both angles of their profession. Basically more of a adventure story mix with some slice of life.
A story set in the world of a D&D campaign I'm running and a bit of a prequel/septate timeline of the campaigns events but happening at the same time. A multi genre music band of teenage girls named DeathBloom consists of Emma, Brittany and Roe do their best to stand out from the other upcoming adventuring teams and bands but can't really compete in either sense. Their music is pretty good but mediocre at best in a professional standard and they haven't been able to score any large jobs from the Adventure, Research, Ruin, and Exploration Societies. Leaving them to take up jobs that still pay but don't exactly scream ADVENTURE like they want. With Roe being the only member with prior adventuring experience and the only reason why they aren't dismissed outright as a bunch of stupid kids looking to get themselves killed, she calls on an old contact to get a risky but well paying job for the three as they set out to make a name for themselves with a task that will inevitably be the catalyst that changes their lives for better or worse.
Wow that's a lot. Well with all that written, what do y'all think of the summaries of both stories, which would you read if ya had the choice and where can I even post my stuff to begin with? Thanks for reading this LONG ass post and I'll try to reply as best I can about some things.
