Last year in February I got a job that I loved. By August it began to fall apart when the manager who hired me and made it such a good job left.
Now guy brought on in October made it his mission to cut me off. For trimming costs on an organization bleeding money and I was seen as loyal still to the manager who left. By November, despite my pleas and attempts he fired me. Sole medical coder for several clinics
Recorded our final conversation where I asked him if I was in good standing and could use the place as reference.
It was after I was fired that I found out the situation was far worse. The CFO was found dead of a heartattack. They were illegally double or triple charging patients at an FQHC. And the president was giving himself over 500k salary on top of using company funds for legal fees. He was sexually assaulting women then suing them back for libel when they brought charges forward.
He made an attempt on me early in my employment and I thought nothing of it at the time.
I applied for unemployment and felt confident that this time round my extent without a job would be okay. I could write. The weekly cheques should cover my needs.
Plus in my pride I felt reassured that as someone with both a BS and an Associates in Health Information Mangement, coupled with a RHIT and CCA, and experience that surely soon I'd land on my feet.
But my old workplace filed that I was let go due to misconduct.
That I didn't care and was negligent.
Had to fight that in court. My former manager testified while all my former coworkers blocked my emails or gave a "sorry can't help" in fear of retribution. At this point I was starting to worry about what my life was becoming. Also presented thr transcript of the final recording of my last conversation with the manager who fired me.
The relief I felt.
Unemployment while the job hunt during Winter could begin with some support. It was less than initially estimated, but that was fine. Heck there was an interview pre the New Years that basically promised me a job once the holidays were open and the accounting department said they could bring on a new coder
It's been since November.
And I have two weeks left at most for unemployment support. One last amount to afford rent before I'm in total free fall.
That job reopened twice, but they never hired anyone. Just closed it out twice
Jobs that require I pass a coding exam fall through with my test anxiety. Headhunters promising that they'll think of me the moment a job opens up fall through. My mother, in her best to show support, calls me every day and asks what I'm doing wrong. That educated people with experience should have a job by now!
My former manager is trying to find me a place, but slow going.
There's been so so many close, but no dice.
Of I may be good, but there's only one position and there's a better candidate.
I feel like I'm about to starve, lose my living situation, and possibly be forced to move back in with my parents who don't even know I changed my legal name. Or who I am in the slightest.
I can't talk about this to my roommate. She's in a contract role job hunting and me talking about the market being rough is triggering to her.
Every night is basically insomnia and panic attacks. And every day is fraying hope, dwindling funds, and feeling like I'm not doing enough. Or figuring out what is wrong with me.
I'm a 30NB who has been trying so hard but it's not enough.

So, I was open to Ky, especially since she clearly is a master at designing DIY slimes. Her IG is a go-to ASMR source for me and her posts make the slime look irresistible! Seriously, for all you stores out there--make your slimes look good on the internet. You'll have so many more buyers. While it's definitely obvious that the slimes that are played with on the IG are of larger quantities than what you will be getting when you order, her representation of the product otherwise looks pretty legit and she still has kind of a small, hand-made store vibe, which makes it easier to pay 16$ for a toy that may only last for a few months, right? She also has my dream slime--a neon space unicorns and rainbows sundae-themed slime tribute to Lisa Frank. This thing just looks so incredible. She really nailed the concept. So, I made a big order because, shipping. there was a 10% discount and the prices didn't seem terrible, even with shipping. I placed my order on the 4th and it arrived today, on the 14th, which ten days feels acceptable for a small business in Hawaii. They didn't go crazy on the packaging, which at first made me glad (I do not feel good about all the bubblewrap so many folks use!) but then I saw that one of the clay containers had gotten smashed and the clay pieces inside were totally flattened. Honestly, nothing else had any damage and the clay was always going to get smooshed, anyway, so I'm not bothered, BUT, I dunno. Use bunched up newspaper or something. It included a gift of two free "small" slimes. Really, they are like 3-4 ounces. Definitely a decent size for a sample and both slimes were pretty awesome, but I still have complaints... My rating system is pretty "strict"--I'm stingy about perfect scores, but anything with a score over 15/20 is something I'd consider buying again. Taro Milk Tea Cheesecake 10/20Someone else reviewed this recently and loved it. I do not. I had initially hesitated to buy this because I like taro, but sometimes find the smell of taro-flavored things like mass-produced ice-cream disgustingly sweet, and I worried that this slime might smell this way. It does not. To me, it smells like boiled white potatoes with an undertone of glue. Not great.The DIY kit came in a sealed bag and everything looked in good condition and matched the website photos perfectly. The boba balls slime, however, was so unactivated it was straight-up glue and I ended up having to SCRUB my hands in hot water to remove it. Even so, the assembly experience was fun and mixing was fun, as well. But the result is a mid slime. It is quite tough--so dense, but not terribly stretchy--and isn't much for bubble pops or other ASMR. The bobas are soft and squishy and that's cool. I also realize that I just really like bingsu in slimes so I'm into this one, but it is still very sticky (I'm too afraid to add activator lest it become tough like other slimes in this order) and it is much tougher than the bingsu slimes I have from Seoul Gage. It's not tough by what I think are American standards, I'm just not used to it. It still makes great, bingsu crackles and I love how it looks and smells. Fast-forward 2 years following the divorce: my now ex-wife lives in a large 4-bedroom property that I bought in cash, while I still rent an apartment. I promised to give her 33% ownership of the home as a gift for being the mother of our children and the kids will receive the rest when they’re older. This is now under a signed contract which states she cannot take me to court for child support and first must sell her share of the property if she feels our child support agreement is not enough.
the private child support agreement we have is $800 per week, which is plenty, and an additional $2000 AUD allowance. With no mortgage to worry about, her expenses are very cheap which leaves her more well off than most professions, and she spends every dime of it. every single week, she doesn’t have a penny left.
The reasoning behind the allowance was simple: If I can look after her and can give her the opportunity to stay at home and be with our children full time I will do that to the best of my ability. I also want my daughters to understand that I never left their mum struggling, but instead made it my duty to go above and beyond to support her.

I don't need to tell anyone here that housing affordability is bad right now so I'll cut to the chase...
What can be done about it?
I got seven proposals to address the problem.
But first.. lets talk about what I call 'Non-Solutions'.
A Non-Solution is something that feels like a solution but isn't. For example: Scratching at itchy skin isn't a solution to a rash.
There's a few Non-Solutions I'm going to be avoiding with my proposals:
Government initiated housing construction company, similar to the NBN Co.
It has one goal: Build houses and sell them. It has a target rate of 'houses/quarter' it aims to construct houses at. That rate is set by an independent body that aims to keep the cost of housing to a fixed level relative to incomes, and controlled in a fashion similar to the official interest rate. Another lever on the economy. The rate increases when housing supply is low, and decreases when housing supply is high.
The AAHC builds houses. Then sells them. Simple as that. No other purpose. The goal is to break even, build houses, sell them at market value (no profit). The great thing is, this means the AAHC has a net zero funding cost for the tax payer - literally costs nothing to run, because it pays for itself through sales of houses.
The actual construction would be done by external private construction companies under contract who compete under bids to build suburbs worth of houses in large projects. Which is another benefit. Lots of jobs creation, a big boon for our local manufacturing and construction industry, and any related employment opportunities (construction companies don't just hire builders after all, they hire graphic designers, accountants, managers, receptionists, etc).
As additional benefit, because the government is building the houses, it can ensure the houses meet conditions and standards we the people want to see applied to future housing construction. So it could be mandated for example, every new home constructed must have air conditioning, must have solar panels, etc.
The AAHC Co in summary:
What people need is alternatives. Today.
Such as 'Tiny Homes'.
Tiny homes can be constructed in larger quantities, prefab, for cheaper than a house, and constructed on a trailer frame which allows them to be easily moved and transported.
They can be significantly cheaper than a house, and moved easily, opening up prospects for someone to own reasonable housing in Australia for a fraction of the cost of buying an established constructed house, by buying very cheap land, a cheap 'Tiny Home' and parking it permanently on their land. Then eventually moving it on, selling it even, once it comes time to upgrade to a permanent fixture house, or move into a larger fixed house.
Because they're legally defined as caravans, they subject to all the same rules.
The first problem is, those rules vary depending on where you live. Not just for each state, but even depending which council you live in. Some councils have no clear regulations at all, making matters worse. A nationalised definition of a 'Tiny Home', and national laws regarding them, would make life easier for everyone.
The second problem is, because currently Tiny Homes are defined legally as Caravans, they are subject to the same restrictions, which can be stifling, such as, subject to location (state or council laws vary). Here are some of the worst restrictions found around the country:
This is a mechanism we can borrow to achieve a similar result for renters, to allow them eventually afford housing.
I call it a 'Housing Super Fund'.
How it could work is like this:
Every tenant is Australia, could have a 'housing super fund' set up for them when they start renting. Every time a tenant pays rent, the land lord receiving the rental payment, could be required to deposit 5% of that payment into the tenant's housing super fund.
Land lords will insist, argue, that they will put up rents by 5% to compensate. But this is a lie. Prices are determined by customer purchase power. Renters will not have any additional purchase power as a result of this change. Rents won't go up in real terms over a long period of time, instead this change eats a cut away of rents from landlords and invests it on the behalf of tenants.
The housing super fund could be made accessible if and when a tenant is making their "first home purchase". If that never occurs, the funds could available automatically at retirement age instead.
It's obvious, that the system strongly favours those who already own houses and have capital, ahead of those who don't.
So, simple solution, is to increase taxes for being a landlord.
Property taxes faced by individuals could be higher for those who own more than one house, and increase with each additional house owned.
And, Negative Gearing, eliminated, since it creates such a massive financial incentive to own more than one house.
There are empty houses across Australia.
Tax the owners until they either rent them out or sell them or move into them.
You borrow money from the government to pay for education, and then pay off that help loan in your taxes, if and when your income is above a minimum threshold. In the mean time, the loan amount is adjusted based on interest rates at the end of each financial year.
There's no reason why we can't have a similar loan structure made available for housing.
'Housing HELP Loan' could be made available to cover up to 75% of the purchase price of an individual's first home, with the remaining 25% required as an upfront deposit. The loan then can be paid off as part of the individual's taxes if and when their income is above a minimum threshold.
This would enable millions who currently can't get a home loan to finally get one, and ensure the debt of a home loan isn't financially crushing when individuals end up in a situation where they are temporarily unable to pay off their loan due to loss of employment.
That's 7 proposals to fixing housing affordability in Australia.

Prices determined by markets are not 'fair', but they are realistic outcomes to the situations which created them, whether it's a lack of regulation, lack of supply, etc. High prices are a symptom of bigger problems that need to be addressed.
- Free Money: While it seems like an easy fix, just handing out money until everyone can afford everything, you don't need to be an economist to know that doesn't work. Prices are a function of purchase power. If you increase everyone's purchase power equally, prices will adjust to match. We've all seen this, the inflation we're experiencing right now in Australia is likely a direct outcome of the spending during the pandemic.
- Using the tax system to incentivise behaviour that results in cheaper housing, and de-incentivise behaviour that results in more expensive housing.
- Adjusting laws that result in more expensive housing, removing laws that are an obstacle to cheaper housing.
- Creating alternatives to the existing housing stock in the market.
- Government initiatives that increase housing stock.
Proposal 1 - The AAHC
I call it the 'Australian Affordable Housing Construction Company', aka, AAHC Co.Government initiated housing construction company, similar to the NBN Co.

So, simple solution, is to increase taxes for being a landlord.

Hi, I play Smash occasionally with my friend and we go online together on my Switch. I've never played Multiversus before, but I'm very excited for it's official launch in 2 weeks, after being in early access and then shelved to be finished.
Is there a local multiplayer online akin to Smash? I've been doing some reading and it seems like there wasn't any option like that during early access. I hope they add local multiplayer online, because as fun as it is to constantly 1v1 my friend offline, it would be a lot more fun for us to team up against another pair online in a 2v2 mode.
Edit: upon doing some further reading, there was no 3 player free for all local offline mode? You're forced to plug in another controller and do 2v2 or you're not able to play at all with 3 people. That seems like a huge oversight, what if I have 2 friends over? We'd have to take it in turns in 1v1s? It just seems like something that should be in the game from the very start. Games like Smash are made for local party game kinda feel. If I ever have a lot of family come over, I always boot up my Switch and we play 8 player local offline and it is some of the most chaotic and fun gaming experiences I've had in recent memory, being able to play with 7 other people, in my own home, is something else.
I really hope Player First Games take player feedback to heart and implement more local multiplayer game modes to cater to all audiences, and not just online play, Multiversus can be the next Smash, it is up to the Developers to make this happen.
