I’m looking at framing my gym section in my basement and we have this weird concrete half wall. Would you frame this all the way to the ceiling or keep it as a half wall?
I take it I should add insulation around it as well since wood and concrete are never a good mix?
Also, I’ve seen some videos where they say to take out the builder insulation and put in rigid foam board instead. Seems like a waste with what insulation is already there, but not sure how good the stuff is that the builder put in.

Hi everyone,
I, (25M) recently had a holiday in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, and I met a Ukrainian woman, (26F) in my time there. [04/05/2024 to 11/05/2024]
My "friend" destroyed my phone on day 2, so I had no communication with anyone, so if I wanted to make connections, it would be the old-fashioned way.
We met in the pool at our resort whilst playing volleyball on day 4 of 7 of my holiday. Her family brought a young child with them (not her child, the child is Moldovan) The child came up to me whilst I was applying sun-tan oil, and pointed at it. I wasn't sure what he was trying to say, but I made the gentle gesture that he was perhaps asking for the bottle. He took the bottle, turned around to his family and they started to apply it to themselves. I didn't mind that, the Egyptian sun is ruthless.
This woman, is absolutely stunning, in every possible measurable and conceivable way. The entire pool would leer over this woman in a crude, crass way.
If I could describe her, she is taller than me by a couple of inches, jet black hair, nose piercing, tongue piercing and plump lips. It is clear that she took care of her figure, as she has an hourglass figure, and this was evident when she showed me her TikTok.. From what I've been able to piece together from TikTok, she was an exotic dancer, twerker - what have you, etc up until around mid-2022. She has since, from what I can see, put on a stone or two of weight (which does not bother me in the slightest, I actually prefer her look now, she carries it so well)
Everyone has a type, and she literally is my dream person.
Her infectious smile made me melt, and her laugh makes me feel like I'm the funniest man alive.
She wrapped her legs round mine in the pool and shook my leg until I became visibly aroused. She would flop onto a li-lo inflatable and invite me to join her. We shared hugs, and one brief kiss.
She would make fun gestures with her tongue and her piercing. She then held my hand at the swim-up bar. We got a drink and swam to the Infinity pool. It was an all-inclusive booking, so all paid for. She knows very, very little English, the basics. By basic, I mean Yes & No, but even then that was backed by shakes of the head and nods.
We spent the next 3 days virtually constantly with eachother, with the exception of most of the mornings and sleeping. Even with no phone, she managed to find me, and I managed to find her, and every day we would enjoy one another's company, even though we were not able to linguistically talk to eachother. All of our conversations were done through Google Translate and showing eachother.
Key moments, were that she would learn English if I would learn Ukrainian, she is single, unmarried with no children. Her story about Putin's invasion and her tragically losing her Nan to a blast, tore my heart into a million pieces.
As I had no working phone, she would write her TikTok and Instagram name on my forearm, slapped it and showed me a translation "Do not wash this until you fix your cell phone."
I am not the most of handsome of guys, and I had a full-face beard on my holiday. I am a powerlifter, so I'm bigger than most people with visible muscle mass, but in no way toned or defined in body shape, which made me wonder why she was so attracted to me so quickly.
She is a self-employed beauty technician in Kyiv, doing nails and lashes.
She skipped a foam party on the beach to be with me on my last day in Egypt. From the moment I left the resort and sat on the coach transfer to the airport - I could not control my emotions and I cried. I was sad to leave Egypt, but I was more sad that I would not see her again until we arrange another meet. Her situation, her story, her perceived purity, her qualities and resilience, just won me over. Head over heels.
Now I'm back home, we are still talking, and I asked her the day after; "Do you want it [relationship] with me, or were you just being kind to me in Egypt?" To this; she said "I want to be with you, I miss you"
I asked for her address, so that I could send flowers, and she sent it to me, and provided me with her phone number too (which I already had)
I'm willing to look past her past of being an exotic dancer, as she has told me as long as we are open and communicate truthfully with one another, we will go far.
I am however, noticing a pattern over the last couple of days and I'm torn on how to feel about it. In the evenings, the messages are sporadic. Sometimes I might get maybe one an hour, sometimes it might be instantaneous I get a reply.
She was extremely ill last night, and she sent me a video where I could tell she was in visible discomfort. Does this mean she feels confident in showing this side of her to me? Or am I reading too far in to this?
I have heard horror stories of people introducing Ukrainian people to the country, to help them flee a war-torn country, and then get shafted / ghosted. Given I look the way I do, and she looks the way I do - I'm trying not to be cynical.
At this point, I know I might be being naive, and maybe even downright stupid. But, the protector in me, wants to help her to come to the UK for the sake of her safety and wellbeing.
We are going to arrange another trip, so that we can meet again at the same resort, but nothing has been set in stone.
Is what I've described, normal behaviour? This is going to absolutely kill me if this is not genuine, as I've just had the most mind blowing holiday with her, and never had so much attention from a lady of this calibre on my home-soil.
I've consulted friends, they've told me I'm a "simp" "tapped" citing "red flags are there" but I really don't want to believe them even though there is a sense of truth behind it.
I'd really appreciate anyone's input on this unique situation.
[TLDR:] Brit fell in love with a Ukrainian who doesn't speak English on holiday, both want to progress, but my support circle tells me be careful.

In short, let's talk today about the in-ear wired earphones Truthear x Crinacle ZERO: RED (or just RED later on), which I purchased for about $55 you know where.

Truthear in a nutshell

Truthear, a Chinese company, has just turned 2 years old, but they have already released 5 models of earphones and one portable DAC. The company was allegedly founded by one or more Moondrop people. With all the trimmings of modern Chinese fashion, Truthear has a mascot, which is an anime girl named Shiroi, weighing 45 kg, 170 cm tall and... I have no idea why I say all this.
Their partner in the field of 3D printing technology is HeyGears, whose equipment or capacities, I believe, Truthear uses to produce its devices (at least, earphones).

What's included

1. the earphones themselves;
2. a cable with a 3.5 TRS connector;
3. an adapter with an additional load of 10 Ohms (I'll tell you why we need it later);
4. a set of 7 pairs of eartips;
5. a fair-to-middling cover made of faux leather;
6. a pile of papers with the image of Shiroi.
The box, I will repeat myself, is perfectly made, I've never seen anything like this. I'm totally cool with the set, it's a good one.

Technological features, build quality

RED use a less common structure 'a larger dynamic driver + a second smaller dynamic driver'. The first one is responsible for the subbass and bass up to 200 Hz and has a diameter of 10 mm, and the second one plays the rest of the range and has a diameter of 7.5 mm.
The manufacturer talks about the 'CCAW voice coil', that is, about the fact that the driver coil is made of copper-plated aluminum wire. Usually, when it applies to headphones, this is made to reduce the weight of the driver's mobile system. This technology is not new: for example, it is also used in Moondrop Aria Snow.
Besides, 'DLP', or 'Digital light processing', 3D printing technology is mentioned. This is a three-dimensional printing process, characterized by high accuracy and the ability to correctly reproduce extremely small details.
And the last but not the least, the earphones are optimized for use at high volume (over 94 dB) and configured in accordance with the 'IEF Neutral 2023' curve by Corin Ako (better known as Crinacle), but with some adjustments in the bass and subbass sections, giving the sound of RED more weight and physicality.
So, RED are earphones printed on an industrial 3D printer, based on a 2-driver scheme. And Crinacle, a well-known reviewer and owner of the largest IEM measurement database, is responsible for tuning RED.
The earphones have a simple but distinctive design. The enclosures are completely glossy and slightly transparent on the inside. On the outside, there are mildly glaring red inserts under a coat of varnish.

There is one compensation hole per each earphone, located in close proximity to a 2-pin connector. L and R are marked in bright golden letters. Small edgings for fixing the eartips were made, too.
Overall, they are quite good and even stylish. The only issue is microscratching that affects the enclosure right off the bat. But it's not really perceptible to the eye.
On top of that, the earphones act as a magnet to fingerprints.
The cable is just decent. It doesn't get too tangled, and the earholders are made at the right angle. The metal splitter is solid black, with the company logo printed on it.

The very same cable comes with Truthear HEXA and Zero earphones.
The case is made decently, too, but it does not have any internal compartments or partitions. I already wrote about how an adequate case should be designed 5 years ago – no one has released anything alike yet.

Ergonomics

The geometry of the RED enclosures turned out to be perfectly compatible with my ears. They don’t have any strange concavities, bulges, or sharp edges, the sound ducts are positioned at a natural angle, the dimensions of the enclosures are... ordinary, only a little thick. Just put them in and listen to music. And they don't have much weight at all.
I'll assume that the sound ducts may turn out to be uncomfortably large for owners of small ears, because, let's be honest, these are not sound ducts, they are simply muzzles. Probably, when you get a first taste of these earphones, you will want to change your favorite eartips for the same, but smaller ones.
The flipside is the noise insulation — RED's one is above average because the earphones fit in tightly.
As for the 10-Ohm adapter, it is not convenient to use it on the go: a few centimeters long, thin rigid structure will stick out of the player audio output, which can easily damage the connector if stressed accidentally.

Quick specifications overview

Design: in-ear closed-back.
Drivers: 2 dynamic drivers.
Impedance: 18 Ohms.
Sensitivity: 117 dB.
Connectors: classic 2-pin, 0.78 mm.
Weight: 6 g (each earphone).

Subjective sound impression

RED sound great: balanced and new at the same time. Imagine that a 'top-up' of a very weighty and fast subbass was added to neutral sound delivery, which never overlaps the bass for a moment, not a iota, let alone the mid-frequency range. What's more, a lot of well-articulated high frequencies were poured in (we're talking about the 3-10 kHz range), but not those that get sandy, filled with sibilants that grate on the ear. They are just heard very well. This is, you know, sort of 'a joy of a HF-phobe who still wants a lot of HF'. With this in mind, the middle range is perceived to the utmost, there are no dips and curbs there, and it is just excellent.
The result is a 'smooth', but vibrant and simultaneously informative sound delivery with a stable low-frequency basis, perceived as 'dynamic' and 'detailed'. It is ten kinds of cool, simply brilliant tuning that retains its uniqueness and accuracy far beyond the price category of these earphones.
Against the background of the high frequencies delivered in this fashion, RED have a clear and wide virtual sound stage with a clear localization of instruments. It could be better, but in a very, very different price bracket.
Why the RED sound might not work for someone:

The sound is not 'thick'. And that's exactly how a normal bass, separated from the subbass, not affecting the midrange, sounds like.
"I hear something that's out of place". When mixing, the authors decided to make the recording 'brighter' or simply did not handle the sound very carefully, having thought that no one would hear the nuances. If this was the case, RED will let you hear weird synthetic glide sounds, abrupt high-frequency sounds etc. To cut it short, you will hear a lot of blatant defects in the music poorly recorded and mixed, as well as a lot of new and amazing things in the well-recorded and -mixed one.
There's not enough subbass. And here comes the 10-Ohm adapter included. Upon its connection, the bass and subbass are raised by 3 dB (see the next section). Even if everything is fine with your subbass perception, when using RED in an urban environment, the low-frequency range being masked with external sound sources may require the usage of this adapter.
The ultra-high frequency range (from 10 kHz and above) could be more delicate. Actually not, it couldn't because the earphones cost 5,000 rubles and not 50,000.
To sum up, in terms of frequency balance, the RED sound is truly unique and one of a kind. For me, RED have become the first in-ear headphones in a month of Sundays that made me freeze on the spot when listening to music that I've been familiar with for a lifetime.

Measurements

The earphones were connected to the RME ADI-2 DAC (IEM output). A measuring rig conforms to the IEC60318-4 standard. The provided eartips were used for measurements. The smoothing is indicated on the graphs. For the info about rigs, graphs and headphones measurements, refer to my article.

Keep your eye out for the dashed green line – this is the target curve conventionally named Crinacle Neutral Target 2023. This target curve was proposed by Ako in April 2023 as an alternative to the Harman curve, which is appreciated by far from everyone. The diffuse field curve measured at the Type 5128 rig manufactured by Brüel & Kjær was used as a basis, which was then transferred to the IEC711 rig and 'tilted' clockwise. Why it was done and why this way – I will try to answer these questions in detail in another article on the theoretical part of measurements, but I won't go deep at the moment.
What matters is that this is not just a tuning. This is a very specific tuning that has been contemplated on for quite a while.
To put this in perspective and see something more common, here is the frequency response of RED and the most current Harman curve:

And the situation here is very interesting:

up to 200 Hz, the RED frequency response corresponds to the Harman curve in shape;
200 Hz are 'sunk', and this is what gives a feeling of elastic, full-fledged subbass;
at low frequencies and in the middle, there is a smooth addition of up to 2 dB at maximum;
the midrange rise is shifted from 2.7 kHz slightly to the right;
peaks after 13 kHz are most likely aberrations of the rig, I personally do not hear them.

Does such sound tuning have a right to life? My ears tell me that yes, more than that.

Sound source choice

For my listening tests, I've connected the earphones to the following devices.

PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs (IEM output) – unbalanced connection
PC + RME ADI-2 DAC fs ('High Power' mode) – unbalanced connection
Hiby R6 gen 3 ( Gain – High, Amplifier Operation – Class AB/A)

The sources were switched by a mechanical input switch.
With Hiby R6, the earphones' sound is a little more bassy and solid. I didn't hear any other difference in the sound of RED when using various sources.

Eartip choice

I didn't like the eartips provided.

Three left pairs have a clearly smaller diameter compared to one of the sound duct and are just difficult to pull on. The right pairs fit the sound ducts easier, but just like the left ones, they're not really soundproof.
As for foam eartips, I just don't like them.
In short, I tested RED with TRI Clarion, and the same I recommend to you. The fit is comfortable, deep and tight enough.

Comparisons

PLEASE NOTE: everything I say below is only applicable to the earphones from the point of view of comparison to other models, nothing more!

RED vs. Truthear HEXA

Subjective difference in sounding

RED are much bassier as compared to HEXA.
HEXA have a more pronounced middle range and less accentuated upper frequencies.
However, the upper frequency range of HEXA is less even, so the peak of nearly 7.5 kHz is perceived more clearly with HEXA.

Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called 'V-shaped', with their sound delivery more versatile, whereas HEXA are more 'reserved' and 'neutral'.

RED vs. Moondrop May

I'd like to note that comparing RED earphones and, in fact, DAP+earphones, which is what May is, is incorrect. Therefore, below we will talk only about the sound. May were connected via their standard DSP cable, and the equalizer was set to 'Standard'.

Subjective difference in sounding

May highlight the range of about 6 kHz in a stronger manner, their sound is more sonorous and sharp.
The voices in May's interpretation sound noticeably closer.
May give the sound a little more 'physicality' and 'dirt'.

Compared to each other, RED's sound can be called more 'neutral' and even 'intelligent', whereas I would characterize May's sound delivery as 'rougher', less 'balanced', more 'subjective'.

Summary

The Chinese economic ramp-up, the development of manufacturing technologies for drivers and enclosures, as well as the development of knowledge about sound in in-ear headphones let us buy a product for $55 in 2024, for which sound they would have charged us good $550 without batting an eyelid and turning a hair 10 years ago, although it seems questionable to me that someone would have been up to such tuning at that time.
And I'm quite agreeable to give credit to Crinacle: while I honestly wrote in the KZ Zex Pro review that the earphones were frankly poorly tuned (whether through Crinacle's fault or not, I have no idea), RED is a completely different story. This is just an example of how to proceed from competence in the field of headphone measurements to successful headphone production.
I am not inclined to believe, of course, that this was a sole effort of Crinacle — everyone sang in harmony, both him and Truthear as the immediate manufacturer.
In general, everything is both clear and complicated about RED at the same time: these are earphones with a universal fit and eminently calibrated tuning, combining neutrality, detail, weight, dynamics and lack of listening fatigue in equal measure. Top it off, there is a 10-Ohm attenuator included for those who 'starve for the lower section'.
To buy or not to buy: to buy, at least just for the fun of learning what kind of tuning is this!

A foam roller.
I was in gym one day had a poor workout. I felt so depressed due to being in pain, I just decided to end my workout by stretching. I went to the section where there was a foam roller.. I just decided to just sit on it and roll on it.
I noticed my glutes would be in pain from foam rolling. I would never experience this sort of pain/tightness from anything else I did. It’s like the foam roller exposed all this.
But anyway, I went home showered & next day I was actually pain free. I was shocked.
I decided to order my own foam roller from Amazon & I do it daily. I must say this has been a great game changing terms of pain & loosening my testicles!
You can look through my posts I’ve been suffering for years & this is no BS. I highly recommend it. I’m not fully recovered but I can do feel more at ease due to not being in pain.

I have a piece of powder coated aluminium trim that fits this corner perfectly. This ended up being a job I took on as I didn’t want to pay the extortionate amount the windows people wanted to charge. The corner piece is smooth on the inside.
My builder suggested expanding foam to insulate and then use Gripfill adhesive to attach the corner trim. I put on the foam and then trimmed it down once set. Used Gripfill - You can see a lot of the blobs of (or where they were attached). The corner seemed solid at first but once the sunny weather arrived a few months later it popped off.
Is there a better adhesive to use? Should I use something flexible instead to allow for expansion and contraction with the heat?
I’m trying to avoid drilling and using screws to maintain a smooth finish on the outside.

I'm doing a remodel of a 1930s home in Arizona. Currently working on remodeling a converted bathroom/bedroom garage that was originally done in the 90s. The garage has a flat roof with tar and white elastomeric coating on top but I'm going to recoat it with 1.5in of foam insulation from a reputable local company. It's small so I'm trying to maximize as much space everywhere including vertically so I tore out the drop ceiling and insulation hoping to expose the joists and roof decking. The roof decking is too damaged to salvage (tar seepage and various penetrations) so I'm going to cover it with firecode grade drywall in between the joists. Which I've been told that I need to meet code anyways. But what I can't find is whether or not I also need cover the 2x4 joists with firecode grade plywood. So I'm hoping someone with some knowledge can weigh in.
If its needed for safety purposes I'll either have to forgo the exposed ceiling idea or go with fake beams to cover up them up after they are drywalled. I'm also open to other ideas like fire retardant paint? Although I'm a bit worried about toxicity.
As far as code compliance goes, keep in mind this is a detached garage with nothing on top and 2 exits not counting windows.

I applied for the GBIS home insulation scheme through Octopus in mid October last year as I live in council tax band A and have an EPC rating of D.
I've had only a few updates since then, mostly emails saying "your application has progressed to the next step, expect another update in 12 weeks". A couple of times it's been more than 12 weeks so I've called up and they've said "oh sorry about that" and I've had a suspiciously timed email saying I've progressed to the next step.
I understand they must have a high volume of requests but is it really meant to take 7+ months to get some pitched roof insulation? I'm just hoping I'll have it by next winter tbh. Interested to know about other people's experience with this

I am 34F and up until two months ago I didn’t have much of a skin routine. I recently started noticing wrinkles and, after speaking with some friends decided to change.
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time searching and asking around, and I’ve been trying to build a nice routine and trying different products. The thing is I am very new at this, and I am afraid I might be doing something wrong. I used to use only one basic moisturizing, I can’t help wondering if now this is too much…? Or could it be not enough? Anyway, I would love to read opinions.
I believe I have combination skin, it gets oily in areas such as nose and chin. I also have acne prone skin and these are the areas where it gets worse. I started noticing wrinkles and fine lines mostly around the eyes. I also have dark circles around my eyes (always had those).
This is the routine I am building:
AM

Cleanser: CevaVe foaming cleanser normal to oily skin, niacinamide + ceramids + hyaluronic acid
Serum: The Ordinary, niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Moisturizer: Uriage water cream SPF20, H2O complex + hyaluronic acid
Sunscreen: La Roche Age Correct SPF50
CC cream*

Serum: The Ordinary, Caffeine solution 5% + EGCG (eye contour)
Serum: La-Roche Effaclar, salicylic acid + glycolic acid + niacinamide OR The Ordinary, retinol 0.5% in squalane**
Night cream with collagen***

*I haven’t bought it yet. I use BB cream but I’ve read recently that it’s not good for acne prone skin. Also, I only use make-up once or twice a week for office work.
**as I’ve read salicylic acid and retinol don’t go together, I use one or the other.
***I’m not doing this yet. I would like to include a night cream with collagen and I had my eye on one from Vichy, but the lady at the store advised me to use the serum from La Roche without applying anything else at night. I’ve been looking online and I can’t find this opinion/restriction anywhere. I am wondering if I should do it.
Questions: - I’ve read some complaints about CeraVe on this sub, but I’ve been using it for two months and it actually feels good. Should I be concerned considering my acne? - Is cleansing important AM and PM? Could PM maybe be enough? - Should I include vitamine C in my routine? I’ve read it doesn’t go well with niacinamide, so where would it fit? - Both caffeine and niacinamide labels (The Ordinary) say they can be applied AM and PM. But wouldn’t it be too much? - I would like to include collagen somewhere in the routine. Any suggestions? What do you think about the night cream ideia mentioned above? - Retinol made my neck itchy, but feels great on my face. Should I not use it at all? - How often should one use retinol? - Any advise on a CC cream? - Any other advise?

I was once here making less than 10k a year. I have over quadrupled my income in two years and it shows me just because you make money doesnt mean anything is easier but getting there is easy if you are motivated. I started aggressively applying for jobs july of 2022. I found a job that would let me train to become a shift lead for 18/hr.. I trained to that in 6 months at a 15/hr. Built another 3 months of experience but as soon as I got the title upgrade I started applying else where (apps take time to get pulled) to places as a shift lead. I found a job that increased my income by easily 35% with less responsibility. I then applied a lot of my past experience (food service brand knowledge) to apply for a better management positon. Less responsibility, more money. I have finally made it there and now have management position that is over double the original job I got from applying aggressively. I comfortably pay rent, buy things I want and have a fridge full of food. Do I have a lambo? No, but I can make whatever protien I want for dinner. Dont be complacent, you can do anything you apply yourself to. Dont waste time at your job waiting for more money. The big thing is work hard and leave anywhere that doesnt appreciate you they will ONLY BRING YOU DOWN BY USING YOU. I work somewhere that appreciates what I do and that makes going to work great.
Big note: You app is the biggest thing holding you back from improvement. Many companies use ai to vet canidates and if you dont have enough buzz words or terms they want from the job description you will not be considered. If the job description says for example: "will lead team of subordinates to fulfill daily production service needs." You need to state you "have successfully lead a team of x number of subordinates in x setting for x time". If you dont say stuff in line with the description like that your app will be tossed. Hope this helps. Get out there people. Take control of the poverty.
Perspective: before I am where I am I was sleeping on a foam pad in a roomate situation that I hated to afford rent with no belongings and relying on food from work to keep me alive. Not working was starvation. Now I live alone with all my rooms complete with furniture, a whole bed box spring frame.
Post ps: When I say apply aggressively you need to do 10 plus apps per day.
Post ps2: You need to use anything from past jobs to show you are not entry level employee to get a better job. The aim is to find a salaried position. That will be 24-26 paychecks of the exact same thing every year. This makes budgeting easier.

2024.05.16 22:48 Tarfool4 Tips for keeping contact cement and roller from drying out.

Every so often I use a walnut veneer on some workpieces. I use standard contact cement and a foam roller to apply it. When I’m finished I close the adhesive tin and wrap the roller tightly with some clear sheet plastic.
When I come back to use the roller and adhesive again around a week or two later, the roller is usually too gummed up to use and the contact cement has lost around 1/3 of its volume due to evaporation.
Does anyone have some advice on how to better store these? Or s it just the way it is.

2024.05.16 21:14 Radiant-Ad-1227 Two dogs grand mal seizures

I realize this may not be the right place to post this, but figured the pet parents here would have the most experience with the topic of dog seizures and possible causes. Both of our dogs had grand mal seizures within 3 days of each other with no prior history of seizures. I’ll try to be thorough with things, but it will be long.
Dog #1 (Jupiter) Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, female, 101 pounds, 6 years old. Takes trazadone for anxiety and Proin for urinary incontinence.
Dog #2 (Selene) Border Collie, female, 46 pounds, 4 years old. History of elevated liver enzymes for unknown reasons and serotonin syndrome caused by trazadone.
They have both been OFF of flea/heartworm meds for several months because of the elevated liver enzymes. So we can rule that out as a cause.
We had an exterminator come to the house on Tuesday April 23rd. He used two products, one inside (permethrin based) and one outside (fipronil based). [ASPCA poison control and the manufacturer of these chemicals were consulted and both agree that these should not be connected to the seizures] They are never outside alone. They both try to eat grass sometimes. The area they use is just lawn and then rocks with some weeds growing in them.
5 days later (Sunday Apr 28) dog #1 starts wretching just before breakfast and that transitions into a grand mal seizure lasting approximately 2 minutes. Recovery was quick, maybe 10 minutes, was taken to emergency vet. Thyroid testing (normal), chest/abdomen X-rays (normal) and blood tests (normal except slight elevated bilirubin). Sent home on seizure watch.
3 days later (Wed May 1) dog #2 wakes up with our alarm, runs from couch to bedroom door and immediately goes into grand mal seizure that lasted 5 minutes. Urinated and defacated during seizure. We had cameras all over to keep an eye on the other dog at this point. Recovery was slower, she didn’t even try to stand up for 15 minutes. Went immediately to emergency vet. All bloodwork came back normal.
*At this point our vet is sure it’s got to be environmental. We throw out dog food, dog treats. Empty and thoroughly clean and sanitize water bowl. Wash all dog toys and their toy box. Mop all floors, clean all rugs, wash all walls. Moved and wiped down every piece of furniture. Power washed the foundation where pesticide was applied. We even washed the garage floor because that’s where they go in and out. We went back to making their food for them, so no more kibble after the seizures. We bought a totally different brand of treats too. I even crawled under the deck to make sure there weren’t rodent baits or anything under there. They only get RO water, which is the same water we drink.
May 7-Dog 1 goes for yearly vet exam and vaccines. No issues. Heart worm negative.

Vet gave the “all clear” to put them back on heartworm/flea prevention after being off of it for several months. I decided to wait and make sure they were good before giving their preventatives because I know they all have a seizure risk and didn’t want to introduce more toxins to their systems.
Today, 18 days since first seizure, dog #1 starts wretching just before breakfast (same as before the first seizure) and it immediately transitions into another grand mal seizure. Lasting about 2 minutes, similar to the first seizure. She comes around after 5 minutes, drunk walks 10 feet and then vomits bile/foam. Call the vet immediately and vet has us pick up levetiracetem and start it right away. She goes back to the vet tomorrow for further testing—ekg and urinalysis.
We are wracking our brains trying to figure out what kind of environmental thing could be causing this. They don’t swim or go into any water sources. We do have farm fields around us, but the dogs don’t go there and haven’t been out during spraying or anything. They haven’t eaten anything strange outside. Previous owners of this house had cats and a dog. Our neighbors dog hasn’t had any problems (they also used the same exterminator on the same day we did). My dogs don’t really get into anything in the house, don’t chew. They have not had flea/heartworm preventative for the last 4 months (see above). The only thing I’ve found that the vet hasn’t brought up is toxoplasmosis. I do plan to have the water tested again (it was tested one year ago and water was fine, but slightly elevated nitrates, which is why we only give RO water)
We may never find an answer to what is causing this, but in the hopes that someone may have a lead for us, I’m asking for your help redditors.
If it helps we live in northern Indiana near-ish to Lake Michigan. We have lived in this house since last fall, it’s rural (we lived in city previously). There are stray cats, squirrels, lots of chipmunks, turkey and deer that are around all the time. House was built in the 90s so lead shouldn’t be a concern as far as the paint goes.

The builder contracts this out and is playing middle-man with the insulation subs and it's clear that in order to get this priced out and potentially added to the build, I need to ask for exactly what I want. We're already at our budget, but we plan to live here for a long time and want to reduce our costs down the road. The house is a ranch with basement in zone 5A.
Included in base cost:
Walls: R19 Batts w/ 7/16 OSB Sheathing
Ceilings: R50 Blown in
Vaulted Ceilings: Blown in as space allows up to R50 (with our design they expect to be able to hit R50)
Basement box sills: 2" closed cell foam
Exterior walls and attic ceilings have vapor barrier
Priced Upgrade Options
R60 blown in attic upgrade: $850
R21 Wall upgrade (batts): $1250
R23 BIB (Blown in) wall insulation: $2750
2.5” foam (R-19) wall upgrade. . . $9,000.00
We've asked about exterior insulation beneath the siding and on top of the sheathing but he hasn't priced it yet as well as air sealing. We can ask additional questions, but I'm not sure what questions to ask or have priced since the builder isn't doing a good job of communicating the options the insulation subcontractor has. Additionally, at what point would an HRV or ERV be necessary?

Hello all!
Feeling accomplished today because I made a custom sized light-blocking panel out of a 1/2" thick foam insulation sheet, and IT WORKED! We're at the part of the year here in Alaska where there's no true "night", the sun sets a little before 11 and then it's twilight for like 6 hours before it rises again. Last year we made do with blackout curtains but they weren't ideal. So I just had my first good night of sleep since I got back from my trip last week 😅
Today I'm wearing Fable & Canon's Eris (Patchouli, vanilla, black pepper, and rosemary) - I have no idea what "popular vanilla and patchouli" fragrance their website is referencing as inspiration for this, since I'm not in the world of mainstream perfumes very much, but I do know that this is lovely! It's warm and spicy but somehow also feels appropriate for springtime. And for a perfume oil, the projection is great!
I'd love to hear about something everyone has done that they're proud of recently (if you want to share), as well as what scent y'all are enjoying on this lovely Thursday!

I know this subject is discussed constantly but every building or home is different so here goes.
I’m on the lower middle Texas coast , 50 miles inland . I bought a 14x36 portable building. The porch is in the side to preserve space needed for the project . I framed up for a bathroom which is 7’ x4 1/2 ft and a 8’x10’ storage room . It has 2 sets of 3/0 x 4/0 mulled windows on the east side . The building is spray foam insulated ceiling, walls and under the floor. The ceiling is vaulted from 94” on the sides to 9’ in the center. I finished taping all the drywall joints and it started hot and very humid so purchased a temporary 8000btu window unit . I need to float the drywall , texture then prime and paint . The 8000btu window unit has actually performs very well so far but the top temp has been only high 80’s to low 90’s . We had originally planned to purchase a 12000btw moni split unit but I keep the building at 69 degrees around the clock and the unit is doing a great Job handling the current temperature. As soon as I finish painting, I will order my mini split unit, but I’m starting to second-guess that maybe 12,000 BTU may be too much???? The building is 14‘ x 36‘. The porch is 8‘ x 4‘. The storage room is 10‘ x 8‘ and I’ll install a louver door to the contents of the storage room to stay at the same temperature as the main building. The open area is about 360sq ft . Total enclosed oak 480 sq ft . The 8000 fine for the current temperatures at this time or will 12,000 BTU be too large? Thanks for all your replies ahead of time
