I lost my future in Singapore

2024.05.14 11:16 Material-Butterfly-8 I lost my future in Singapore

What else I can work as in Interior field in Singapore? I was the junior interior designer at my previous work.I used to assist my senior interior designer, create furniture detail drawings for production and quotation and drafting the design and drawings that senior designers created at my previous job. And I am also confidence about furniture installations too. My dream is to work at IKEA but is my exception too high?

You are not recommended to try spells to bring a lover back if you are going through the following: You know that your relationship with your ex is toxic and the best painful option to take in this is to move on. It is not a good choice to be in a relationship that is un-natural, one that is built on witchcraft. The love spark as to be their at all times.
Even the most powerful love spell may not fulfill the things that are required for a real relationship to be in place. Love should be natural and if your partner looses interest in you, its better that you let them follow the heart. If one door closes, expect another open infront of you.
Therefore witchcraft or love spells should not be the ultimate solution to mending a broken heart in a relationship, one has to make love exist naturally by doing the right things to your partner, the things that will recapture the inner feelings of love and affection as you did in the start of the relationship.
Only if and when all has been tried and failed to work that one should order for my love spells that actually work, and indeed this will be the last nail in the coffin to fix your troubled relationship permanently.

Young Ciri! Mediaeval festival/bookweek/Halloween costume
Hello! Miss 9 has been watching me play the Witcher 3 game for a while and wanted a Ciri costume as her big make this year. I was going to do the adult Ciri until she caught a cut scene with Lil Ciri in and fell in love.
Pattern: I had the Master of Disguise costume pattern pack kicking around (by Sew a Little Seam) so used their open front tunic as a base. I altered the neckline, shortened it a little, and also grabbed a collar somewhere in that batch for later.
The green padded shoulder thingy was self drafted. It's just two curves stitched and stuffed with a ribbon wrapped around it, and handstitched onto the finished vest.
The vest was made from an IKEA curtain, cotton I think, with a bedsheet lining that was also used for the shoulder detail. I dyed the outer with teabags, then painted over with fabric paint. The decorative stitching is waxed thread from a leather wroking kit. The green ribbon is bedsheet, painted.
The white shirt is that same pattern, unlined, with that collar I mentioned earlier. The collar points aren't a match to the pattern, I made them more pointed. I added sleeves by winging the armscyes 😂 they're just straight seams, I think I ripped the idea off an Elizabethan chemise I made once. They are 3/4 length and a little bit to allow for rolling them up. The inner collar flap things (you can see I'm down with the lingo) are a bit rough as you can see, but I was going with quick and easy. I used leftover white pop top for that.
The boot covers are self drafted, basically just tubes with a narrower bottom. Brown poplin scraps for those.
Vambraces and strap were from leftover stretchy suede leather stuff. It's a miracle I squeaked by, there wasn't much left! The vambraves need some interfacing and are a tad too big at this stage, but we've got some time to fix those. The strap fits but I'm worried it'll break going on and off, so I'll have to find a way to make it come apart without shortening it.
All up, the entire costume was made from scraps and repurposed fabrics I had on hand. Cost = $0!
The painting part was borderline disastrous and I need to work on technicals skills, especially regarding facings (the collar), but this is the first closest I've come to self drafting.

2024.05.04 00:16 DMonkey214 Idea for a Personal Workspace: Need Tips, Ideas, or Suggestions

I am moving into a new apartment and I just got a new job so I really wanna make a nice workspace. I am an architect and a gamer so I want to make a space that I can stay in for hours and can change to my every need.
My idea is this: I have 2 Ikea ALEX drawers and I want to make a desk that would be both an electric standing desk and a drafting desk. I want it to be that I can raise the top if I want to stand for any reason but I also think it would be really cool if I could take my keyboard off and use it as a drafting table too that can angle upward.
Does anyone know a good way I can do this? I want the desktop itself to be a nice wood finish that I planned on making myself but I can't seem to find a standing frame that would also double as a drafting table except one that was an outrageous price. The other issue I am trying to think about solving is the monitor situation as I would prefer to not drill holes in the wall if I don't have to and I think it would be nice to still have monitor access while the top is angled. Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions!

Please help me choose what color green to paint my bedroom!
I'm set on redoing my bedroom in greens and warm wood tones. Here's the issue. I would love to do some sort of accent wall BUT my room is very dark (intentionally). I can sleep through just about anything unless there's a light on. I block out hallway light with a draft blocker and I have blackout curtains AND blinds on my walls. I primarily use lamps, which give off warm white light. I've gotten some of those paper color swatches from Walmart, Ace, etc. My problem is - if it's too yellow leaning, in the light it turns greyish. If it's too dark, it just looks black (even mid tone greens look so so so dark). I just want to have a cozy green room to come home to and feel safe.
Color of my bed frame for reference of wood tones. Greens for pallete reference. Also my Ikea sheets (I love them so much even if they don't end up matching)

2024.04.18 14:47 dopestwitch MITTBACK legs and a diy table top

I've been trying to find a desk that I like that is 30inches in depth because I have a pretty large monitor and have a lot of other stuff I use that takes up space. The very few desk I've found that work are either ugly (imo) or are a lot longer in length than I need (ikea has one thats the perfect depth but the length is like 61 inches long and thats wayyyyy too big for my space).
My partner as the OG version of the MITTBACK drafting table style legs and desk (hers has the metal edge to keep papers and pencils from falling off if you adjust to at an angle, and it has a built in glass insert that can be used as a light table) and I LOVE how it looks. Its also the perfect size for what I need. Obviously with hers being from like 2011-2012 its no longer available and impossible to find.
I was thinking of getting two of the MITTBACK legs and then looking for a 30 inch depth desk top or counter top or maybe going to Home Depot to have some wood cut to make one (unless anyone has any recs for desk/table/counter tops in wood that could work with the size I need) but I'm wondering if the mittback legs are going to be sturdy enough to handle a top that is a bit bigger depth wise at least. I believe the legs are 22 inches in depth and I would need a 30 inch depth desk so... the table top would kind of hang over a bit.. idk if that would work..
Anyone have any insight or suggestions?

2024.04.18 14:30 dopestwitch Wanting to DIY/build my own desk

I desperately need to upgrade my desk set up - I'm currently using a fold out table and while that works... I'm always worried about it just collapsing and so I avoid using my desk to draw/do more heavy duty work on it. I need a desk that is 30 inches deep to fit my monitor, key board, mouse etc. And I'm having a really hard time finding anything - the only options out there seem to be standing to sitting desks and I dont really want to spend the money on a adjustable standing desk because I'll never use it for that.
I saw ikea sells trestle sadlehorse style legs. They are 22 7/8x27 1/2/36 5/8 " (they adjust because they are meant to be used as drafting tables if wanted). I was thinking of using those legs and getting a wood countertop or plywood cut to 30 inched deep and putting it onto of the ikea legs. but the depth would be off, the table top being a lot bigger width wise than the legs. and I wasn't sure if that would work at all. I'm sure these are all really stupid questions but I am not good at this stuff at all and have zero experience in building any type of furniture, let alone using some ikea legs and making a table top for it. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

2024.04.06 22:31 elcrmel My first setup!

My first setup!
My first set up!
I bought a table from Ikea (TOMMARYD Table, anthracite, 130x70x105 cm) cause I’m a big guy, but I didn’t found a chair for it. I need recommendations and also any gadgets to help me start my journey. I’m turning from consoles and laptops to PC or to be exact ROG NUC! I don’t like the gaming chairs and I need chairs with big seats and I prefer that the back can split from the seat And I don’t mind the draft chairs with armrest, I don’t know anything about ergonomic 😅 I found (Primy Drafting Chair Ergonomic Tall Office Chair) I don’t know it’s the only chair that have a big seat and I think it’s tall enough

2024.04.02 21:52 GunnyMcShoots Lessons from the Goon Cave: How a bit from The Yard became the centerpiece of my masters thesis

Lessons from the Goon Cave: How a bit from The Yard became the centerpiece of my masters thesis
TLDR at the bottom of the post.
I’m a graduate student getting my masters in creative writing right now. I’ve been in the program for about three years and I’ve been working on my thesis for the last year and a half or so. For me, my thesis is literally just a collection of individual short stories that I’ve written and revised. It’s a big project, over 115 pages of original content that I’ve been refining for a long time, and my graduation totally hinges on it.
The idea is that all the stories have some kind of thematic through-line or points of commonality. They all work on their own, but they come together to make something unique as well. You spend most of your time in a program like mine just writing short stories on their own without necessarily considering how it’ll all come together. For me, I’ve always been interested in writing stories that can highlight problems caused by contemporary American culture and toxic masculinity, but in really weird ways. For example, I wrote a story about a person getting locked in an IKEA because it’s actually an intraplanar space where demons eat people or whatever. It kinda pokes fun at capitalism and the way it sucks the soul out of every aspect of life if it can. That’s just one example. A lot of the stories are a lot smaller in scope.
Anyway, I’m also a big fan of the pod. I’m a broke college student so I don’t subscribe to the patreon, but I’ve listened to every episode and enjoy catching Ludwig or Slime’s streams when I can. I thought Slime’s “Goon Commander” bit was really funny when that ep first dropped, but there was one line that actually made me really interested in the Commander as a character. When he’s talking about what kinds of grades he gets, Slime says “I could try harder for sure. Probably make mom happier.” I know it sounds stupid, but it really struck me how fleshed out of a character the commander was for just being a bit on a podcast. I was oddly kind of moved by the idea of this confused, porn addicted kid who maybe wants to try harder in school to make his mom happier since his dad died.
So, I decided to write a short story about him. I fleshed out the character a little more, gave him some problems to deal with like dinner with that asshole Steve, and wrote a story about a teenager struggling to learn how to actualize his sexuality when his only perceptions of intimate relationships are pornography. I’m making this sound a lot more high brow than it really is, but I wanted it to be kind of tasteful and heartfelt as well as funny while highlighting a weird subculture. It was quirky and fun and had an uplifting ending. Naturally, the title of this story was “Goon Cave.”
Fast forward a few months, I’m choosing which stories I’ve written to include in the collection and start revising. Somewhat to my own surprise, as I’m evaluating everything I’ve written, Goon Cave makes the cut. I clean everything up, piece it together, and send the earliest draft to my advisor. When we meet up a few weeks later to go over his suggestions for revision, he absolutely loves Goon Cave and the enigmatic Goon Commander. He recommends naming the collection “Goon Cave” and making the story the last in the collection as it apparently encompasses all the best aspects of my work. I’m kinda shocked, but decide to roll with it as I start revising.
As I start implementing my advisor’s feedback, the whole collection’s thematic progresion hinges on Goon Cave. The collection is so named because every story features a character who is “on the edge” of something. For a few months, the Goon Commander is at the center of everything I do.
A few weeks ago, I finally submitted the full document to a committee who I’d have to defend the thesis to. The cover page is the one included in this post (with some changes made so I don’t dox myself). Two weeks later, I went in to defend my thesis. It’s 2 hours of intensive discussion in which you explain and defend your creative decisions. I still don’t know how I kept a straight face when three serious writers asked me about gooning for nearly half an hour. Anyways, I successfully defended and will receive my masters degree in May.
I would post the story in here, but I want to eventually try to get some of those stories published in legit literary journals or whatever. If I put them online prematurely then no publisher will touch them.
So, big thanks to the Yard and Slime in particular for helping me finish grad school. If I ever publish something, the Commander gets a piece.
TLDR: I wrote a short story about the Goon Commander and it became the most important story in my thesis.

2024.03.28 21:13 TheSaintPirate Should I fill the gap?

Should I fill the gap?
Hi All, I took the skirting off to fit an Ikea PAX wardrobe flush to the wall and noticed a large gap between the plaster board and floor. The gap is about an inch. Do you think this should be filled or left as is?
I was worried about a draft and a potential for damp as it's against an outside wall. I should add, that the house is about 20 years old, brick, timber frame, breeze block, plasterboard.
TIA

2024.03.27 20:10 Fox-Mulder- Using intellectual properties, urban legends, celebrities etc. on NoSleep

Hello, sleepless!
Fantastic Mr. Fox here to shine some light on the “Original Story” and “Celebrity/Politician/Public Figure” rules, which have been known to trip authors up from time to time.
Generally, if a particular work wasn't created by yourself or can be traced back to its origins, it's not suitable to use as your own. Urban legends, folklore, and myths are different and usually fine to use, but more about those later.
We don't allow the use of any intellectual properties (IPs) not owned by yourself as a significant part of your story. That includes, but is not limited to, characters and settings from books, movies, TV shows, video games, songs, creepypastas, SCPs, and even other nosleep stories.
Some examples of characters that are considered IPs are Siren Head, the Rake, Freddy Fazbear, Claire Redfield, Arthur Morgan, Pinhead, Tommy Taffy, Laurie Strode, Rose the Hat, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
Some examples of settings that are considered IPs are Rivendell, The Upside Down, Tatooine, USCSS Nostromo, Vice City, Amity Island, and Shawshank State Prison.
Even if you create your own characters, you can't use The Upside Down as your setting. Even if you create your own setting, you can't use Freddy Fazbear as your character.
I hasten to add that it doesn't matter if an IP is now in the public domain. It's still not allowed at nosleep. We try to keep things pretty immersive here. As fun as it is to read about Winnie-the-Pooh’s bloodlust or your experience in Wonderland, these are known fiction.
Fan-Fiction, piggybacking/bandwagoning, and using AI to write or help write your story breaks the original story rule. We judge such stories at our discretion, but plagiarism will earn you a shiny permaban with no further discussion.
There are some ways in which you can use/mention established works in your own stories. Here are some examples:
Character - Count Dracula
What's not allowed:
• OP finds themselves in Transylvania, or any other location, being stalked by Dracula.
• OP tells the story of how they became a vampire and reveals at the end that they are Dracula.
What is allowed:
• OP is stalked by a vampire. “I read Dracula in high school, but this vampire is nothing like that!”
• OP is stalked by someone wearing a Dracula costume.
Character - Jason Vorhees
What's not allowed:
• OP is camping with friends. One of them is found decapitated in the woods. Later, OP is attacked by someone wearing a hockey mask and holding a machete. Even if this character isn’t explicitly named Jason, his likeness is iconic and not suitable for nosleep.
What is allowed:
• OP is camping with friends. One of them is found decapitated in the woods. Later, OP is attacked by someone wearing a balaclava and holding a machete. “He made Jason Vorhees look like Bambi!”
Using an existing character's likeness is a no-no. If it's more reasonable to suggest that, as written, your character is supposed to be “X”, it will be removed. “It was a tall, skeletal, humanoid creature with two sirens where its head should be.” Even if it was one siren, that doesn't work.
There are exceptions for more generic character descriptions. A killer wearing a mask of human skin isn't necessarily going to be connected to Leatherface. Put them in an apron and give them a chainsaw; there will be blood. And originality issues.
Character - Mickey Mouse
What's not allowed:
• OP is watching some old Disney cartoons. Mickey Mouse climbs out of the screen. “Oh, boy, I'm gonna enjoy eating your liver, ha-ha!”
What is allowed:
• OP goes to Disneyland and is stalked by Mickey Mouse after the Meet & Greet.
This kind of thing is generally an exception. If it's clearly someone in a costume and not the character, it will likely be fine. The same goes for a model/statue/toy of a charactemascot. For example, your collectable Star Wars figures burst from their pristine packaging and try to kill you. Double whammy!
Setting - Derry, Maine
What's not allowed:
• OP lives in, has lived in, or visited Derry, Maine. This is a fictional town created by Stephen King.
• OP grew up in Derry. The state isn't mentioned, but they played in the Barrens and lived on Neibolt Street.
What is allowed:
• “I grew up in small-town America. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Stephen King's inspiration for Derry.”
Setting - The Backrooms
What's not allowed:
• OP found themselves in an endless liminal space with yellow walls, fluorescent lights, and wet carpets. Whether this is referred to as the Backrooms or not, it's the Backrooms.
What is allowed:
• The concept of an endless space is generally fine if it's a complete story, you cover plausibility, and the setting can be distinguished from the Backrooms (or something similar like SCP-3008, the infinite IKEA).
Setting - Raccoon City
What's not allowed:
• OP is playing Resident Evil 2. During an electrical storm, they are pulled into the game and find themselves in Raccoon City facing hordes of zombies.
• OP is on a road trip and pulls over when they see a burning vehicle. As they investigate, the driver of the vehicle attacks OP despite being covered in flames. As OP runs to safety, they spot a sign that reads “Welcome to Raccoon City”.
What is allowed:
• OP is playing Resident Evil 2. During an electrical storm, OP looks out of their window to see the streets of small-town nowhere crawling with zombies. “It was like Raccoon City had landed on my doorstep.”
Song - Heart-Shaped Box
What's not allowed:
• OP discovers notes from Kurt Cobain that state Heart-Shaped Box was written to ward off an evil entity. They use the song to fight the entity when it returns.
What is allowed:
• OP faces an evil entity. When Heart-Shaped Box begins to play in the background, it appears to have a negative effect on the entity, giving OP time to escape.
It's fine to reference the things you love as an homage, as long as you don't take it too far. A good example of this is Billy Loomis from Scream was named after Dr. Samuel Loomis from Halloween, who was named after Sam Loomis from Psycho. You can set your story in Haddonfield or mention you grew up on Elm Street (as long as you don't indicate it's that Haddonfield or Elm Street). If you want to name your family John, Wilma, and Dean Torrance, go right ahead! If you name them Jack, Wendy, and Danny, it will raise eyebrows.
Generally, using common horror settings and tropes won't be an issue. A group of college students spending the weekend in a creepy woodland cabin can't really be linked to one particular existing work. Don't use the exact plot of The Evil Dead though.
When it comes to cursed media/lost episodes, you should make up your own fictional movie/TV show/video game, explaining why no one else has heard of it.
Despite popular opinion, we mods are human(ish). There are times when we might miss direct references to IPs due to lack of knowledge. I'll admit that if it's not a reference to Cthulhu, for example, I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. We encourage you to report any stories you see that clearly use IPs as their own.
If it's decided that a particular reference is a bit too on the nose and it results in a removal, we will consider reapproval based on the edits you're willing to make.
Urban legends, folklore, and myths
Generally, these are fine to use. They can't be traced back to a single origin or are considered part of a cultural heritage and don't belong to anyone.
You can write your own versions of Bloody Mary, Krampus, Kuchisake-onna, La Llorona, the Loch Ness Monster, the killer in the backseat, the licked hand, etc.
You can't use gods, demigods, or other deities as main characters. For example, you can have an encounter with Medusa, but not Poseidon.
Please note that modern “internet urban legends” are generally not suitable to use as their origins can be traced.
Celebrities/Politicians/Public Figures
The guidelines state you can't use these as a main character in your story, but they can be mentioned in passing or in an insignificant way.
For example, you could be in LA and spot Jamie Foxx having lunch. There's no interaction. He doesn't play a significant role in your story. That's fine.
If you want to use a celebrity in a more significant way, there can be absolutely no direct references or even the slightest implication to it being a particular person. It would need to be 100% vague and also be plausible.
For example, there's a secret conspiracy involving a pop star who is part of an underground cult. She's not explicitly named, but she's “crazy in love” with her plan to “run the world”. It's not subtle. Don't do it.
Use that same rule of thumb for politicians and other public figures. When it comes to politicians and politics in general, we discourage you from using nosleep as a platform for political statements.
Mods reserve the right to remove any post at our discretion. If you're not sure about these or any other rules, send a complete draft of such stories (in a Google doc allowing viewing permissions) to the mod team at NoSleepAuthors before posting it to nosleep. Please include the title of your story in the message. They can let you know if your story works, if it needs more work, or if it won't work at all.
For more information, LanesGrandma poured her blood, sweat, and tears into this super-duper In-Depth Guide, where you can find just about everything regarding the nosleep guidelines.
I hope this is useful. Feel free to ask questions or throw in any other scenarios you're unsure about, and we'll do our best to get back to you!

2024.03.27 07:54 Fox-Mulder- Using intellectual properties, urban legends, celebrities etc.

2024.03.26 19:16 Longjumping-Matter78 I am 31 years old, make $87,195 as a Director of Community Engagement & Marketing at a nonprofit in New Haven, CT, and this week I got ghosted!

Diary Warnings: Sadding around in a big way & copious amounts of bad luck
Retirement Balance: $77,121 (Work account: $28,956 + Roth: $21,942 + Investment account: $26,223) I started contributing around 4 years ago when I finally sat down to try and learn what it all means and how to do it. I do not come from a family with good financial/retirement literacy. I direct deposit $250 per paycheck into the Fidelity investment account, dump $6,500 into my Roth every year, and I contribute $151 per paycheck into my matched retirement account through work.
Equity if you're a homeowner: Zestimate says $275,000 – still owe $132,976 = so $142,024? In 2019 I bought a condo and it was one of the only lucky-timed things I've ever done. I put 2.5% down and bought in a neighborhood where a local bank offered a neighborhood-based program eliminating PMI (or just building it in, lbh). My rate is tiny, and I'll probably live here forever because of that.
Savings account balance: I recently opened 2 bank accounts for $800 in bonus money coming this spring, so I spread my savings out to fund them for a few months. In total across 3 savings accounts, I have $4,725 (Ally) + ($2,000 Chase) + $280 (Citizens) = $7,005 which is lower than normal due to recent travel expenses I paid off in full. Ideally I want $8,000 in general emergency base funds. Buckets to build up include: dog emergency, car emergency, travel, gifting, and home projects.
Checking account balance: $997
Credit card debt: $1,058 on a personal card; I have work balances on 2 other cards that get paid off in full via reimbursement
Student loan debt: N/A, I went in-state, got some grants, and my father paid off the remaining 23k in my mid-20’s.
Other random details: My car is currently paid off (8 years old, around $5,000 value probably), and I do have a pet who I purchased health insurance for at an annual $850 annual premium. We live alone, and I am single. I went on a trip abroad 3 weeks ago and overspent on food and 2 tattoos by very good artists.
Section Two – Income:
Income Progression/ Have you changed careers? Did you recently have a breakthrough in your career? Here is where you can tell us about your salary/job progression: I graduated college with a degree in Anthropology hoping to dig stuff up in old places. I was quickly hit with reality and took the first job that sounded cool at a library where I had 3 PT jobs and made maybe $25,000/year. I saved a lot and tried to buy a very cheap house and got rejected because, well... I made 25k a year. I stayed for 2.5 years to gain experience then jumped into a Manager of Fundraising & Events role at $45,000. It was awful and abusive, so I left after 8 months, and found my current job where I began as the Communications & Events Coordinator at $65,000. After 2 years I got a new title and raise to Marketing & Community Engagement Manager at $73,500. I year later I realized I was underpaid and overworked, so I negotiated a new title at a Director level and an adjustment to $84,000. My title is the same now, but with a 3% raise last year I’m at $87,195. I am still ridiculously overworked, but last year we hired an assistant to help my department and we will soon hire a coordinator, so I’m hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel once they’re fully trained. I am apparently a masochist, so I also took a side gig coordinating a local event coming in the spring.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: $6,706 gross ($4,610 after taxes, healthcare, retirement) - $450 to Ally - $500 to Fidelity - $450 to Citizens savings = $1,605 direct deposit twice a month into my checking account for bills, mortgage, health, groceries, etc.
Any Other Monthly Income Here: I accepted a side gig for the first time this January. It is hourly and so far I billed for $1,575. I can expect that same amount within the next few months for a project total of around $3,150. I’m not sure if this will repeat next year.
Section Three - Expenses (no partner, 1 freeloading dog):
Mortgage / HOA fees: Mortgage: $1,115 / HOA: $350
Home insurance: $82/month
Savings contribution: see above
Investment contribution: see above
Debt payments: N/A; just credit cards; all expenses go on credit cards paid off monthly
Donations: $35/year membership fee to a local historic cemetery; I donate clothes and stuff to a local Buy Nothing group often
Volunteer hours: N/A; excited to have more time to volunteer one day!
Electric: $65-250 depending on the season; right now in March my payment is $107
Home Gas: $68
Water: $32
Wifi: $40
Health: $200/month out of pocket for therapy 2x a month; any other medical costs are currently unplanned and taken from savings
Cellphone: N/A; work pays for this because of the high volume of phone use required
Subscriptions: Spotify $17, HBO $15, Hulu $3, Netflix $7, AAA $8, Cinemark $12
Pet expenses: At least $100 a month if we count food, treats, meds, toys, etc.; $850 in December for 1 year pet insurance coverage
Car payment/insurance: $1,351 paid last January for 1 year of coverage
Paid hobbies: I see a lot of live music, so that could be anywhere from $30-$150 per month. I also do 1-2 random things throughout the month like roller blading ($20), yoga ($25+), foraging walks ($20), Spanish lessons ($25), etc. but nothing consistent at the moment
DIARY:
Day One – Sunday
8:00AM – I wake up to my alarm and look at my phone, seeing I did not get a text from someone I hoped to hear from. It’s a weekend work event day and I have to be downtown by 9:15AM. I take my dog out for our morning walk and a food truck vendor calls me telling me they’ve arrived. I tell them they’re very early, and I won’t be there for another hour. I suggest they go get coffee.
9:15AM – I drive to the event site while guzzling down a sickly sweet coffee Premier Protein and park in a street spot (street closures for events = free parking). I spend the next few hours arranging food trucks and helping my team to pop out tents and tables. It didn’t end up raining, but it’s cold.
11AM – The goat petting zoo has arrived, and they have a baby goat! I tell them where to put the pen and walk around finalizing things for the noon start.
2PM – The event is over, and it was a success! Many happy attendees, including me because I spent 90% of the event supervising goats. I lead break-down and run to a food truck with my assistant to grab some lunch. We are lucky that we can expense weekend events. We wolf down our quesadillas in my car before heading to driving my assistant home. ($28.00 together, expensed)
4:55PM – The street closures for the event turned a 10min drive home to a 1hr and 15min one. I’m salty because of it and because the text I’d been expecting from someone still hasn’t come. I put on a happy face for my dog, apologize for leaving him for so long, and we go to the dog park. I can tell he smells the goats on me, and he’s jealous. When we’re back, I give my dog a long-needed bath, send an emotional text asking what is going on, dwell in my feelings, cry a bit, and settle onto the couch for a nap.
9:50PM – I return from our nightly dog walk, confused and hurt, and decide I’ll sleep soon. I cry a little more, then head to bed. I journal and then fall asleep.
(Daily Total = $0 'cause of expensed stuff)
Day Two – Monday
6AM-ish – I wake up anxious because I can feel that there is a text waiting for me. It’s long, apologetic, clarifying, but not very conclusive. I cry while I add some initial thoughts and questions about it into my phone’s notes, then fall back asleep.
8:40AM – I wake up on my own, and still feel exhausted. I totally forgot that I took the day off since I worked on a Sunday, and now having to fill time seems daunting. I put on sweats, walk the dog, and drink a protein shake, then settle on the couch with my dog to hopefully fall back asleep.
11AM – I couldn’t fall asleep, so I read the horror book Penpal and finish it. I don’t like it. I confirm some plans with my friend to help her finish moving and have a farewell dinner later. I cry some more and watch Mindhunter which is a show we used to talk about.
2:15PM – I see that the local natural history museum a few blocks from my house is reopening after a many-years renovation, and I’m excited! I book a ticket (free) in the first timeslot on reopening day, and also become a member (free) for some cool free perks!
3PM – I can’t muster the energy to walk, so I put on my gross Dog Park Clothes and we head to the dog park. Two of his friends are here! I lay down on a mud-covered bench, and say hi to people, but I can’t bring myself to chit chat. I reread the long text for probably the 3rd or 4th time that day and type more thoughts in my notes. And try not to cry in public.
4:35PM – We get home, and it’s time to shower and get ready for dinner with my friend. I listen to a podcast in the shower and while doing my makeup, so I’m not alone with my thoughts.
6:43PM – I arrive at my friends apartment, and we strategize how to move a very large, very cozy, very sun-bleached armchair and ottoman. Turns out we were being dramatic (who, me?) and it was light. We carry it to the curb. I consider, for a moment, if I should take it home and reupholster it, but then I remember the 6 chairs I have at home waiting for the same treatment.
10:35PM – We decide to end our time in this city together how it began a year ago, with margaritas. I park ($2.43) and we get very expensive guacamole and strong margaritas and talk about her future job, plans, and her cat. I vent and ask for advice about my unexpected man pickle. I pay the bill and we joke that she will treat me when I visit her new city. ($135.94)
11:05PM – I get a DM on Insta from a long distance friend saying he’s going to be in my state tomorrow on tour and has a free night. I ask if he wants to go see a bad horror movie instead of dinner. He says yes, and I reserve 2 tickets for us using Movie Pass credits (free-ish). In bed I draft a somewhat short response to the text while tipsy-crying, asking if we can have a phonecall Wednesday night to discuss where this all stands, and I hit send.
(Daily total = $138.37)
Day Three – Tuesday
8:30AM – I wake up with a stomach ache, expecting a text, but don’t see one. It’s going to be a long week at work, and I feel drained just anticipating it. I dry shampoo my hair, take my Nuvaring out when Alexa reminds me, get dressed, walk the dog, and bring him to the car.
10AM – We have a staff meeting, so we all gather in the conference room. I share that the weekend event went really well, and we all suffer through my dogs morning farts as he basks in the sun.
11:03AM – I sold something on Depop, so I print the label out. The profit will be $5. I ponder how to spend this windfall.
12PM – I take my dog out for a walk around town, and he’s his usual hammy self. I, in contrast, resemble a zombie. T.G.F.S. (Thank God For Sunglasses). I stop into a store to see if my friend is working and she isn’t. I’m bummed but relieved that I don't have to talk and be bubbly. I make a mental note to make an actual note to text her next week. I get back to the office, take a photoshoot of my dog basking, and get back to work organizing my 9,000 projects.
4PM – We go straight from work to the dog park, but only boring dogs are there, so we leave earlier than usual. On the way home I pick up some vegan cupcakes and a brownie ($20.54) for the friend I’m meeting later; he told me his birthday is this week!
5PM – I inhale a small bowl of broccoli cheddar soup, shower, zap my bikini line with the Nood I bought last week, get dressed, fill the dogs bowls for dinner, and explain to him that I’ll be home soon before starting the 40min drive north. I pick my friend up at his hotel, and we drive to the theater. We grab snacks (free – friend pays since I got the tix), sit down in our ridiculous 4D vibrating chairs, and laugh about how dumb they are. I scream out loud during a jump scare with a dead girl. I check my phone a few times hoping to see a text from someone, but it doesn’t come.
9:30PM – We decide to go to a Dave & Buster’s 3min away after. I’ve never been! He loads up his loyalty card (free) and we play mostly carnival-type games. It's a nice distraction.
10:30PM – We get back to his hotel and chat a little more. We discuss the philosophy of polyamory and open relationships and agree to disagree. On the drive home my tire pressure light comes on, and I decide to panic-Google how much AAA is. I think about who I would call if I got stranded, and I don’t have an answer. I pull over to check my tire and buy a AAA premium package ($8.43). My tires seem okay, so I decide to chance it and go the 30min home.
11:35PM – I get home and go on a “quick potty” walk while I Google my new AAA benefits. There aren’t many. I doom scroll on Reddit a bit before bed.
(Daily total = $28.97)
Day Three – Wednesday
8:30AM – I wake up and can’t bring myself to get up for a while. I think about if I can afford to buy some land and start a hobby farm if I sell my house. I check Zillow. I sit in the shower, walk the dog, and take my time getting into work. Another day without a text response, but I assume it’ll come sometime during the day, we’ll have that phonecall tonight, and things will be clear.
10:25AM – I get to work and there is an expense reimbursement check on my desk. It reminds me that I need to void out a check from Sunday for a vendor who didn’t show up. In my brain fog, I scribble VOID on my own expense check… I try to direct deposit it anyway, and Chase accepts it. Nice. I clean up the office before running out to an 11AM meeting.
11:50AM – The meeting was short, and I’m happy the project seems like it’ll work out! I take a break to pee, make black tea, and call my dad who is apparently having sinus surgery tomorrow morning. He jokes about dying from the anesthesia, and we both laugh.
12PM – I head to a café with my assistant to debrief with a community partner on a recent February event. I try to seem social and normal. Afterwards, I drop my assistant back at the office and head home to walk my dog before prepping for a 2:30PM Zoom about a summer event series.
4PM – The meeting went alright. I refill my daily vitamins in the kitchen and see I’m running out of my probiotic, so I order some. ($33.74) We head out to the dog park. I hear my car squeak, and remember I need to buy some belt conditioner on Amazon. ($12.17) I wonder what’ll be next now that I’ve hit 90k miles. I get a text for a party next week and add it to my calendar. I’m not sure if I’ll feel okay to go.
6PM – I put some laundry in and try not to think. Still no text. My stomach hurts, and I feel some cramps kicking in. I’m running out of new podcast episodes. I sit on the couch and look at Zillow and wonder what remote jobs I’d qualify for when I escape and start my hobby farm. I open a budgeting app I downloaded last week and organize my posted transactions to distract myself.
8:25PM – I decide tonight to respond to all of the texts I hadn’t been able to bring myself to answer. I text my two childhood best friends, my best friend who moved, my sister, and answer some DM’s. I’m grateful for everyone, but I still feel alone. We go on a long night potty walk and then get in bed around 10PM. Still no text. I cry a bit and wonder what I did wrong before eventually falling asleep.
(Daily total = $45.91)
Day Four – Thursday
8:30AM – I wake up. Still no text. I have a stomach ache again and shower while I think about work tasks. I ask Alexa to add conditioner to my shopping list, grab a protein shake, and go to work. I notice my bottom right wisdom tooth is killing me, and I can’t really open my jaw much.
12:55AM – I spent the morning on some projects and prepping for a meeting with my boss. He asks if I want lunch. I usually skip lunch and my jaw is killing me, but I say yes because I think it’ll be easier to seem normal in a loud bar vs. quiet office. We discuss 5 topics, and I get answers for 3. He pays the check. I get a selfie text from my dad smiling with gauze shoved up his nose. It appears he didn’t die.
3PM – It’s pay day – yay! I spend 20min paying some bills now that yesterday’s reimbursement check cleared. I make sure to invest my $250 Fidelity direct deposit transfer and also allocate the direct deposit to my Ally savings account $225 to the Dog Emergency bucket.
4PM – Today was swamped. I revised several website pages, updated application forms for an upcoming event, drafted some posts, sent what felt like 12,000 emails, troubleshot a billion problems, and tried not to think about other things. I pick up my dog for another dog park day. Our friends are there, and we chat while my son pummels her daughter. She calls me a “#boymom.”
5:15PM – We pass the empty street where the armchair was left on Monday. It’s gone! I send a photo to my friend as proof.
6PM – I feed my dog and heat up some frozen pasta for myself. It makes my stomach worse, hurts my mouth, and I wasn’t hungry, but I thought I should eat. I watch 90 Day Fiancé and think about how empty this weekend seems. I wonder how I’ll fill the time.
7PM – I call my dad. He’s at his girlfriend’s house recovering, and he asks if I can find a plane ticket for him. He asks if I want to come and says he’ll buy my ticket. Of course I want to escape, so I spend 30min looking up plane tickets. I recall a show being in that city, so I check out Fontaines D.C.’s tour schedule. I don’ t think I can make it work. I give up. for now I decide to distract myself with organizing things, as usual, and sort through my box of files. I come up with a good shred pile before my dog rings his potty bells to go out.
8:16PM - We walk around my neighborhood for an hour and a half, and I get the urge to listen to Touché Amore. The lyrics are hitting harder than they ever have, and I Google to see if Jeremy Bolm has any books. He does, but they’re all sold out. I look at the moon and think about my non-responder. Cheesy, ew. When I’m home, I sort more files and clean up. I write a sentence in my journal and fall asleep by 11PM. Oh yeah, and cried a little bit. Can’t forget that.
(Daily total = $0 )
Day Five – Friday
8:30AM – It’s a struggle to get up again this morning due to many factors, but mostly due to lack of sleep with my tooth throbbing. I laugh because it’s kind of funny… Of course I’m going to probably have to get wisdom tooth surgery the same week I get ghosted, my best friend moves away, and I’m swamped as hell at work. What else? Bring it on. I get up and walk the dog.
9:30AM – I say goodbye to my son, leave the house, and see that my back tire is totally flat… My Tuesday drive home incident was apparently not a false alarm. I stand around for 10min while my air pump fills the tire up. It holds long enough for me to drive to the Firestone near my job. The guy asks if I was just here, and I say “yeah, basically”, and drop the keys in his hand before walking a few blocks to the office. I call my dentist on the walk over and the earliest appointment is Monday at 11:30AM, so I book it. I wonder if I need to have surgery soon who I could have drive me home after.
12PM – I fill out a testimonial for Rover for my friend who moved, and give her high praise. I update her on the tire, tooth, and being fully ghosted and send her a gif of the gloomy raincloud CareBear who I feel akin to lately. We both “LOL” at my misery.
1PM – It’s time to restock 6mon of merch at work, so I confirm I’m within budget, and place some big reorders. ($580.14 & $530.00, both expensed) A work event friend visits my office and brings me homemade Irish soda bread. I rip chunks off of it and chew with the left side of my mouth while she asks me about my newer tattoos.
4PM – I hit my work deadlines and got the application out for a big spring event. I call my dad and he sounds frustrated, so I say we’ll talk about plane tix another time. At Firestone the tech doesn’t charge me for patching the leak. I thank him three times and say “see you soon”, and we both laugh. I go home and my dog is ready to party. We go to the park, and I try to buy tix to a mushroom foraging hike on Saturday, but it’s sold out.
5:15PM – On the way back from the park my tire pressure light comes on again! I park in my driveway and think about how hard its been to function with everything and the dread I feel every single day. I text my therapist asking if he can talk Monday instead of Wednesday. Unfortunately he’s fully booked.
6PM – My first meal of the day is the leftover half of pastrami sandwich from my work meeting on Thursday and 5 fries. It is so good. I give my dog 3 of the fries because he’s worth it, and I shower because I feel like I’m covered in pastrami juice. After, I doom scroll on the couch for a bit.
7:30PM – The potty bells take me out of my Reddit trance, and we go for a 30min walk. In a moment of weakness I consider texting the guy one last time to borderline beg for some peace or closure. I feel like an idiot for considering it. Maybe I’ll do it on Sunday. The unfilled weekend schedule looms.
9PM – I watch I’ll Be Gone in the Dark on the couch while I eat sunflower seeds and chug water, but they both irritate my tooth. I contemplate eating some edibles to quiet my brain, but I don’t. I text my friend asking what she thinks about me texting the guy. She thinks the silence is my answer. I do too.
11PM – I relocate to bed to continue discussing my plentiful terrible ideas with her until I fall asleep.
(Daily total = $0 )
Day Six – Saturday
6, 7, 9 & 10AM – I wake up several times for several reasons until my dog stands on my sternum telling me it’s time to pee. I decide today will be a productive errand day. I drink some protein shake to swallow vitamins plus Excedrin for my migraine, tooth, and jaw. I spray my car’s timing belt with anti-squeak stuff while watching a YouTube video. When I start the car the squeaking is much worse. Google tells me I’ve made a terrible mistake by using belt conditioner on my model car. Oh well.
11AM – I line a Target cart with a folded blanket and hoist my son in. I put a Behind the Bastards podcast on, and we spend 1.5hrs casually walking around. It’s packed today. I buy mostly planned items (English muffins, toilet paper, conditioner, provolone cheese, seltzer, 3 cards), but sneak some emotional shopping in (matching bra and thong that hopefully makes me feel hot, seeds, seed pots, soil, a dog toy). I also grab a $40 gift card in case I can make a trip to see my best friend soon; her birthday was a month ago, but she’s a new mom, so meeting up has been hard. ($166.73, 5% off with Target card)
12:30PM – I return some door knobs at Home Depot and get a $31 store credit. I buy a succulent for $5.98 using it. (Free?) I also need to buy grout for a home project, but I can’t bring myself to care.
12:45PM – My car interior is horrendous from the dog park visits and brain fog the last few weeks, so I go to the car wash and buy a wash just so I can use the vacuums. ($11.70) I do my best, then head home to put groceries away, clean the trunk, and use my wetvac on the front seats – something I’ve wanted to do for 3 years now. The soapy water coming out of the seats looks like coffee.
2:40PM – I make a tomato juice, onion, and provolone sandwich on baguette with a cucumber red pepper salad on the side and guac and chips and swallow 2 more Excedrin for my brain. When I’m done I bring a basket of laundry up from the basement, plant the chive and oregano seeds in my hydroponic garden, get dirt everywhere while potting the succulent, fire up the robot vacuum on the first floor, and shower. Podcast on, of course, so the silence doesn’t eat me alive.
5:10PM – We go for a walk around the neighborhood. It’s a gorgeous day, and people are out grunting loudly on the pickleball courts. We get home, I feed the dog, and write a to-do list. I start overthinking again.
7PM – My anti-capitalism/consumerism is weakened in my current state, and I want to acquire objects. I load up my dog to head to TJMaxx. I remember that I need gift bags for the 3 birthdays this month, a garlic press, car air freshener, and some bras I’ll probably return. ($50.19) My dog throws up on the blanket I put down for him in the cart. He’s fine, but I see it’s full of bits of the toy I bought him from Target, so the barfing makes sense. We pay and leave and I sit on my very damp wetvac’ed car seat on the drive home because the blanket I was using as a seat cover had puke on it.
8:30PM – I heat up soup from Trader Joe’s for dinner, light two candles, and put on John Oliver reruns. My son naps. I text my friend, and she’s coming to stay with me later next week. Yay! I get an email that Civ 6 is on sale on Steam. Sold! ($6.37)
11:15PM – We take a stroll around the neighborhood for night-potties, and it’s cold. We head upstairs and I put clothes away, sort out a bag to list on Buy Nothing, and draft a letter I probably won’t send to the guy until 2AM. It's cathartic, but also makes me feel worse.
(Daily Total = $234.99 )
Day Seven - Sunday
7AM – I wake up from a bad dream about the ghoster ghosting me in a new, different way and write it in my phone notes. I fall back asleep hearing comforting rain outside.
9:45AM – I wake up and we go out for a walk. I see my tire is totally deflated again. Cool. I’ll just stay in all day since it’s rainy. I make English muffins and eggs, but I’m not hungry, so I feed the eggs to my dog. My sister texts asking if I’m driving south towards her for a concert I mentioned, and I send her a photo of my tire. She asks if she can stay with me a few days starting next Monday. I say yes because we haven’t hung out for her birthday yet, but I worry about my energy and mood levels.
11:30AM – The sun comes out (booooo), and a dog park friend texts me to meet her at the park. I say I’ll be there at noon, put on my Dog Park Clothes, and pump up my tire before driving the 10min over. The belt conditioner worked – no squeaks anymore! We'll see if the car explodes in the next few days.
1PM – We leave the park, tire still holding up, with a donut our friend brought me and plans to go with her to IKEA tomorrow night. I remember I need cash for my sisters birthday present when she comes over, so I drive to the ATM. ($60) Back at home, the sun is out so I feel guilted into being productive again. I decide to clean up my neglected back patio. I bring the dog bed outside for my son to bask and headphones. I sweep the pavers, pick up pine needles, rinse out my fire pit, dust off my hanging lights, fix my gutter downspout, and sweep out the laundry room while the dryer runs. Hours later I’m covered in dirt, but I can check “clean the back” off my to do list 3 hours later. I have a can of tuna and crackers for lunch, take out the trash, and shower hoping it’ll also help my cramps.
6:25PM – We wake up from a nap, and I feel nauseous. I buy a Tuesday night ticket for Dune and pre-order an ICEE and popcorn. ($20.30) We go for a podcast walk, and after I schedule another appointment at Firestone, and then list a ton of purged items (books, clothes, home décor) from my organization sessions on the local Buy Nothing group. I'll arrange for pickups in a day or two.
11PM - I get in bed and turn the TV on for noise and fall asleep eventually.
(Daily Total = $80.30 )
(Week Total = $528.54 )
Lastly, reflect on your diary: Well, this certainly wasn’t the best week in any way. Mood, energy, physically, brain-wise it was terrible, but it's also an extremely busy time at work and my dog never stops wanting to party, so life had to go on. I appreciate how composing this helped fill time and gave me something type A to do, which is partially why I did it for this week.
I spend when I’m bored or needing to do something, so that came across, and the more house/life projects I come up with, the more I justify needing supplies and things, so that triggers more future spending too. March is also a big birthday/gifting month; I’ll never be able to escape that. It made me realize I need to work on my car emergency fund as well as my health emergency fund because wisdom tooth removal is likely impending, and my trusty car is older now acting its age like never before. The day after the diary ends, I went to the dentist at 11:30AM and learned I need 2 wisdom teeth out, and at 3PM I ended up cracking the back molar touching my impacted wisdom tooth - a combo of jaw clenching, the sideways wisdom tooth pushing on it for years, and biting a piece of cartilage in my beef arepa that day. More expense that I didn’t have ready in my emergency fund!
Also, with the difficulty functioning this week, especially with the series of unfortunate events continuing, I scheduled a psychiatrist appointment to explore some options for anxiety and mood. I talked to my friend who takes something daily and swears by it. I may not always be this bad once feelings fade, but I realized by tracking almost hourly actions that the anxiety is always underlying and so many things like being blindsided by the behavior of others is out of my control. I guess it took me 31 years to notice and figure out I don’t have to live this way. Hopefully my next money diary is more positive!

2023 Season Review
"Just a short-term hiccup." Wilson's fingers halted for a moment as she looked into the future. Collingwood. 10th. "The Magpies will become a target this season with injuries and personnel changes bringing them back to the pack.”
Geelong. Collingwood. First Friday night game of the year. 80,000 packed the G to watch the premiers take on a side many thought had devoured their lives last year. In scenes that caused Channel 7 to have standards, Jeremy Howe flew up and broke his arm. It was so painful that he was given a green whistle and the replay not shown on the broadcast. Ollie Henry had to leave his mummy behind in Geelong and it was a bit scawy in the big city with all the mean Cowingwood supportahs. Very few of his formah fans used his actual name of "Owee" and he did indeed learn Darcy Moore is one cwunching twacklah. One can only wonder what words would have been uttered had it been played at the country football oval down in Geelong for their home game. Either way, it was a wong dwive home to see mummy.
Port sent their SANFL team to the MCG. Must have been the whole magpies-thing. But we're focusing on the team that owns the black and white stripes here, not some copyright infringers who belong behind bars. They won by 71 points and sent the sack Ken Hinkley BigFooty boards into a full meltdown as they spilled on to yet another page.
One fan described it as, "[The highlight of my season was] watching us put away port at a bar in Manchester whilst it was bucketing down at the 4th ashes test with Port fans on table next to us."
Few knew in Round Four that a prelude to the Grand Final was taking place. On this occasion, Brisbane would assert their dominance in a 33 point romping. Must have been the Gabba heat. A week later, Ross the Boss would have flashbacks to 2010 but without the draw. He still lost.
On the biggest clash of the Home and Away calendar, Essendon looked set to win. They were 28 points up. Nick Daicos, a cheap ball winner with no real aptitude for football but also a player Collingwood stole as part of their VIC Bias-ponzi-scheme-scam F/S draft choice, kicked a lazy two goals in the last quarter and had something like 40 easy touches any player could if they had the chance. But it doesn't so that never happened. The next week, Collingwood stole victory against Adelaide. Again.
By round nine, some arrogant Yank named Mason Cox decided to play well for his one game of the year. He got three Brownlow votes for it as part of a 65-point win. By Collingwood standards, this is more accurately reflected as a 150 point win. GWS breathed a sigh of relief that he wouldn't be showing up in finals. Two weeks later, Cox played his 100th against North Melbourne. For some reason, this was celebrated.
The rest of the season saw Pendles leather poisioning, Oleg Markov reminded Gold Coast that delisting players gives them a kiss from the sun of nuclear super powers and James Blanck learnt the same vocabulary as those wude, wude words ickle Owee Henwee did in round one. Moderators have advised I refrain from their usage. The season was determined to be over after two consecutive losses.
In R24, Essendon fans were hopeful that they'd see a win and it'd be the inverse of ANZAC Day. It was a good thing there was a seat belt on their guernsey because after a quarter of football, the game was over.
The first game of the finals was Collingwood v Melbourne. Minutes into the opening quarter. Controversy ensured when Maynard and Brayshaw had an incident on-field. This would spark fierce debate and later prompt rule changes. Aside from that, Will Hoskin-Elliott would play a starring role as the team highlighted the metaphorical meaning of "ice in your veins".
\Collingwood supporters wish Brayshaw the very best in retirement and hope that he succeeds in his next adventure.*
The social media team, tired of posting footy content, decided they'd use Cooper Hamilton in a TikTok trend and try to start a minor rivalry. A big, big sound turned up to the MCG in response. Except it wasn't from the west of Sydney, it was from the Magpie Army. 97,665 packed the 'G. Both sides fought hard all night. The Mason Cox dude - still overrated as - showed up for a Preliminary Final and kicked the match winner.
After the birth of his son, daughter, Maggie, Craig McRae sent the boys into a Grand Final ... laughing. Nick Daicos' opening goal reminded the doubters that Collingwood did intend to win the match. The contest see-sawed backwards and forwards in a game that would go to the ages. The Dazzler of Bobbies looked on fire. He guzzled goals as if goon hanging on the old Hills Hoist, ending the day with four and a hangover the next day.
With five minutes remaining, Charlie Cameron looked as if he had stolen another flag from Collingwood when he snapped and put the Lions up by four. Daicos. De Goey. They connected and with a swift Daicosian hadball, Jordie slammed the ball from 50 metres out. Sidebottom would be gifted a chance by Jarrod Berry for a 50-metre penalty. He kicked truly. 10 points, 4:23 remaining.
Magpie fans couldn't breathe as Daniher kicked a goal to return the margin to four points. The margin would never change.
Silly fans often say Billy Frampton did nothing. This is completely inaccurate. Billy Frampton had two touches and stopped Harris Andrews from accumulating. He reminded the South Australian clubs what could have, should have been. Scott Pendelbury with his basketball background would end the final term with eleven touches.
Pies by four, sweet sixteen.
The Dazzler won his maiden Norm.
The hiccup season wasn't to be. Wilson, writing, considered the year that had been. "Number one is Collingwood. The momentum built really from last year ... It was one of the most romantic (premiership wins). People started barracking for Collingwood, people who couldn’t even utter the word of the club previously. That was I think, by far the biggest footy story of the year.”
We agree, Caro.

Arrivals
Lachie "Shoota" Schultz arrived at the Pies not long after the first whispers of him wanting out emerged. The former electrician shocked the Dockers and their fans by leaving the They say that if Schultz played in Victoria, he'd be seen as an A-grade star, revered as much as the Great Prince Harley of Perth. Pity we got him for a future first rounder and a second.
Harry DeMattia arrived at Pick 25. Back to Harry, the former Australian 12th man had a finger set back but aims to complete a strong block of running in which he should continue to attack the middle of the season. He continues the proud #13 dreadlock tradition set by Dale Thomas before his depressing defection (he redeemed himself by playing in dual wooden spoons). One fan commented, "Kid has a strong head on his shoulders, real student of the game. Hopefully, it translates to AFL form."
Tew (rhymes with cow and Howe) Jiath was taken with Collingwood's second and final pick of the draft. TJ joins brother CJ in the league. The silky defender is a development prospect but has strong athleticism.
At the conclusion of the draft, some fans felt the two pick day was disappointing. Schoenmaker featured in a few responses but the Pies left him at the pub and Moir couldn't be saved from Carlton.
Lachie Sullivan landed at the Pies in the SSP. The former Footscray captain averaged 30.3 touches last season, the same year he was named captain of the VFL-best team. The talented midfielder arrives with hunger to perform and lockdown a place in the AFL side. Some have concerns he may choose cashies over footy.
Jack Bytel was signed to Collingwood. He played 22 games for St Kilda over five seasons. Rated a top ten prospect until his back injury in 2018, Bytel remains cover for the wing with ability to play in defensive and inside midfield lines.
Josh Eyre has several pages of Collingwood's "Pre-season 2024" board dedicated to him and has swept numerous track watchers off their feet with his movie-star looks. The talented key defender, over 200cm tall played nine games with Collingwood's VFL outfit, effectively trialling to replace Trey Ruscoe from the middle of the year. Essendon may regret the now-extinct Dodo let this one walk.
Just when you thought the list build was finished, Hobart Hurricanes spinner, Wil Parker bounded into the side. A source close to me described the Richmond spinner as "a talented cricketer who lacked the polish to elevate his game to the next level of professionalism". Touted as a first round selection in his draft year, Parker probably completes the Magpie's list.
Departures
Tay Tay left Melbourne to play in Sydney. Tears were shed on the MCG pitch but in this instance, the grass was devoid of squealing pre-teen girls and friendship bracelets. He leaves for the largest club that usually sells out the G SCG a few times a year. 70% of Magpie fans were satisfied with this trade, although some felt it was unders for his leadership value.
Jack Ginnivan couldn't make it through Grand Final week without some headlines. His decision to visit the races was controversial and achieved a feet few other players could boast: pissing off Fly again. Whilst not exactly illegal, Jack had failed to read the room. He was a required player one day and not long after, wearing colours well suited to a little shit. 73.6% of Magpie fans polled were satisfied with the decision to cut Ginnivan.
In the words of some fans:
It didn't end there, either. Trey Ruscoe was cut due to the whole due to the whole team not falling over.. Given Ruscoe plays for West Coast, there's a fair chance he'll rekindle his career when the WAFL bus arrives to play with the big boys. Childhood fan Trent Bianco was cut after a short games career, his kick in the chain between Moore and Elliott in the 2022 heroics against Essendon will always be remembered.
The curtins closed on Arlo Draper's Collingwood career with Cooper Murley suffering a similar fate. Fellow convert, Tom Wilson, was chopped from the AFL list as he now pursues a return to his basketball background. A reminder that VFL T. Wilson is not the same version as AFL T. Wilson. Champion Data does not distinguish the pair. VFL T. Wilson has committed for another season. In a bad year for basketball, Bassirou Faye joined him.
The surname Kelly has attracted princes but also attracted a number of premature deaths. Most notably, the noose. Kelly certainly experienced some unlucky times - injuries to most parts of the anatomy, a debut cut short due to injury and a boot stuck in the fence at a VFL ground. To add to the list, the swing axe of delisting occurs. Given how Ned faired, he should be grateful he is still alive and now has the opportunity to play for Sydney in the VFL.
Fan Comment: "Arlo and Cooper didn’t have an opportunity at AFL level, and Arlo being a very highly touted U18 prospect probably deserved the benefit of the doubt that has been afforded to the Brown brothers, Will Kelly and a couple of others over the journey."
On behalf of Collingwood's coomunity, I wish all players delisted players well at Footscray VFL, West Coast WAFL, South Adelaide SANFL, Norwood SANFL, Sydney VFL, the Melbourne Tigers NBL1 and Faye's future club, basketball or football.
Players To Watch
McStay and Replacements
After McStay went down with an ACL injury early in the pre-season, the media spent much time speculating about who'd replace him. Johnson. McInnes. They emerge as the only option.
AJ is the tall Bobby. The x-factor Dazzler. McInnes is the natural athlete, the big body, the player who can come into the midfield when needed. Both have had ups and downs over pre-season so will be in locked in a fierce battle to see who is chosen. Nathan Kreuger might be a possibility but he keeps ruling himself out through injuries.
Pat Lipinski
The pretty boy Lipinski was seen as a softie last year after his shoulder injury against Hawthorn (they really like injuring the hot Collingwood players. Hands off Jamie). According to the experts, his form in the middle of the season was so poor, we'd overpaid the Dogs giving up Pick 43. Then he won a premiership. Don't worry, it was still a rip-off for a bloke that should never have come to the Pies.
Norm Hill
Ian Bobby "Norm" Hill was traded to Collingwood in 2022 after Essendon's strong arm. Magpie Academics were convinced that the deal was a rort and we'd traded the house and land package for a packet of stale twisties. Luckily, there was no actual intelligence to those comments. It's also lucky that Essendon's rare and now-extinct Dodo couldn't quite seal the deal. As he wanted to win a final, he decided to come to Collingwood. It paid off. Norm beat cancer then came back, won a premiership and a Norm Smith medal. Inspirational. Magpie Academics insist that human error was to blame for their incorrect modelling.
Fin Macrae
After a strong season in the VFL, Macrae could firm as a challenger as a place for a spot in the best 23. There is not much he can't do and when given a taste, he is capable of playing well. Watch as the #18 grows his horns and starts to find some baa like that of the goats of Collingwood. That is, if he can get the opportunity.
And watch that overrated Nick Daicos kid. He's mildly talented.
Players On Notice
*Users could select multiple options, hence why percentages will not be equal to 100%.
Nathan Kreuger
Nathan Kreuger has been a star of CHB, an achievement that may seem impressive for a forward. That is until you learn that position is centre-half bench. Most contests Kreugs competes in are a matter of closing your eyes and wondering what body part will hurt next. Shoulder? Knee? Hammy? Other? Over 60% of responders to the survey released to Collingwood fans nominated Kreuger as a player on-notice. Should Kreuger fail to remain fit, his time at Collingwood is like to come to short, sharp end. After his latest set-back, the writing appears to be inked on the wall for Nathan.
John Noble
The hard luck story of the 2023, Noble finds himself now battling to find space in a stacked team. The loyal defender will need to work on the moments in games that leaves fans with the feeling that if he didn't, he'd be a rather handy player.
Joe Richards
Approximately 54% responded that Joe Richards is likely to be cut. Noted by Fly at Season Launch after his summer spent ruining the track, Richards was named as an emergency for the practice match against Richmond. Richards may not always impress the statistician but he does offer some strong two way running and clean ball-using skills. I would not have included him in my personal on-notice list but "democracy" is a thing.
Aiden Begg
Rookie ruckman Aiden Begg remains on the list after his recruitment in the 2021 MSD. 51.3% of Magpie fans thought he was at risk of the chop and currently sits squarely in position to be off the list at the end of the year. He struggled against VFL-listed defenders who never played AFL and the club is alleged to "hate his ruck craft". Begg will need to play like as if a beggar for another year or let the opportunity go begging.
Ash Johnson
AJ joins the on-notice list in 2024. He has been unable to secure a place in the best 23 and now has a prime chance to do so. Showboating should only be performed if you can pull it off. Outmarked by Josh Gibcus in a practice match and responsible for a hospital pass in the one before, Johnson will need to step up. He has a deal for the 2025 season but is not guaranteed to feature or could face to broomstick prompt to rehome.
Josh Carmichael
The x-factor kid who terrorised Essington in 2022 didn't find himself with as many opportunities in 2023. The inside bull has showed some promise in the seconds but may need to work on his handball skills as these have been reported on a spectrum ranging from "below average" to "suited to the side that runs out at half-time".
2024 season preview
Byes: Round 5, Round 14
Double-ups:
Fixture. Nobody could make sense of the Ikea thing they posted for the release so it's just the website one.
Best 23 as voted by Google Forms participants
B: Maynard, Murphy*, Howe
HB: Pendlebury, Moore, Quaynor
C: Hoskin-Elliott, Crisp, J. Daicos
HF: Mihocek, Sidebottom, Hill
FF: Schultz, McStay, Elliott
FOL: Cox, N. Daicos, J. De Goey
INT: McCreery, Lipinski, McInnes, Mitchell
Sub: Markov
(Don't read too much into positioning. It will vary.).
*Concussion issues may force Murphy into an early retirement but until he retires he remains a best 23 player. The moral arguments about Murphy's playing future have been omitted.
**McStay is still a chance to return towards the end of the season.
***I couldn't fit Macrae in. I might select him over other players but "i" is not in team.
Expectations
Well after winning a Grand Final for once, Collingwood supporters are showing some optimism towards the propsect of maybe winning another one. However, most nuffies know the trauma associated with Grand Finals and the Pies so are keeping expectations at a reasonable level for Facebook. Worth noting is the deteriorating heart health of Magpie fans. A pie chart attached shows 70.9% are backing in back-to-back,
All supporters and those with an emotional attachment to the club should book in a heart exam to check the health of this vital organ (also, all other supporters should do this). Heart health has claimed club greats such as Jock McHale, who died a week after the 1953 decider. Magpie fans can reasonably expect that games will come right down to the wire.
The club aims for another quiet year in the off-season department. Much better to let their next door neighbours, Melbourne, feel the magical buzz of a scandal. With bad boy Ginni and reformed bad boy Adams traded, it leaves the club with a strong contingent of leaders to shape the season.
It is also an expectation that Darcy Moore will continue to be a goodie-two shoes and deliver speeches that sound intellectual. He has instantly disqualified himself from a commentary gig post career which is disappointing but the aspiring politician will look to continue to build his leadership.
Despite the claims of the Sydney Swans, Collingwood will continue to sell out stadiums around Australia as the largest football team in the country. They may not have one million fans who tick a box in a rigged survey but it matters little
The big happy family of Collingwood will tread deeper into the steps they take and march towards another year.
Floreat pica,
May the Magpie Prosper.
Much appreciation is given to the Collingwood communities who contributed to the authorship of this preview. It is inevitable a criticial detail or two or three have been omitted and you may find errors with proof-reading.
Remember to give your mumma a kiss x.

2024.02.21 22:49 Asm-Vicros Want to bust but I'm not sure if I got everything correct

Greetings everyone,
I'm pretty sure I'm overpaying like hell for my 18-ish sqm studio in Amsterdam. I'm also pretty sure the energy label is fraudulent because its stating that I have a CV which I don't have and its stating mechanical ventilation but thats only in the bathroom and not the main area.
Some quick details:
I'm not sure if i filled everything in correctly in the point calculator cause I still came up to a total of 121 points and that seems a bit too high for something this small
The landlord owns more than 20 of these type of apartments in the street/building which i have access to so if it's easily bustable I'm sure all the other tenants would be interested as well.
If I missed anything or more info is needed I'm more than happy to share the details.

2024.01.01 16:18 Existential-Avocado Moving from Atlanta to Brooklyn, NY

Hello all! I am a grad student planning a move from Atlanta, GA to Brooklyn, NY in the summertime. My current lease ends on July 1st, but I'm going to be in class in new york from mid june to mid/late july. So I either have to move before I start classes or after, if I'm able to extend my current lease in Atlanta a bit.
1st question: What is the most affordable way to do this move?
2nd question: Inversely, what is the most efficient way to do this move?
I will be living with roommates so I already have an estimated range of rent costs for where I want to live. I'm just trying to figure out logistics of moving my stuff. I know moving in the summer might be more expensive so I'm keeping that in mind.
The only big pieces of furniture that I was considering taking to ny are: a large desk, a drafting table that folds up quite thin, a reasonably sized vertical dresser, a bakers rack (which can be broken down), a full sized bed frame (which can be broken down), a kinda heavy wooden side table & an ikea locker tv stand thing.
Aside from furniture, I need to bring all my clothes & accessories. I have mostly secondhand items that I probably could not find again, so I will not be getting rid of those. A lot of art supplies that I'd rather not sell (I need them for school & internship (I'm studying art therapy)). A lot of art work that can be condensed into 2 or 3 portfolio bags & other decor that could fit in 1 or 2 small boxes. A decent amount of kitchen things, but no bulky appliances.
Additional context, I do not have a car & cannot drive but various friends have offered to help do the move with me if I need a casomeone to drive. Also, I have to stay in Atlanta until at least mid to late May due to internship requirements. So a summer or August (at the latest) move is nessesary before I start my internship in new york in September. Any help is welcome, thank you!

2023.12.22 17:47 KMKPF How do I copy and share a large hand drawn pattern.

I recently made an quilting post showing my finished Sailor Moon quilt. I received a lot of comments asking for the pattern. I would love to share it but I don't know how. I can easily share the patterns for the Sailor Guardian dresses and the cats because they will fit on standard printer paper. However, the pattern for the main design in the center of the quilt is hand drawn on a 3.5 x 4ft sheet of paper. How do I copy it?
To make it I blew up the original image using the poster printing feature in Adobe. It printed on 20 sheets of 8.5×11 paper that I had to tape together. I taped that up to my big sliding glass door to use as a makeshift light table. I taped two large sheets of paper from a roll meant for my kids Ikea painting easel together and traced the image. Then I used a yard stick to draw all my pattern lines on that one giant piece of paper.
To create the paper piecing shapes I actually sewed with I used freezer paper. I traced each section individually onto the freezer paper, then drew in my seam allowances. The processes was very labor intensive. It took me several days and two packages of freezer paper.
I don't own any drafting software nor do I know how to use it. I have a standard home printer scanner combo. What do I do?

2023.12.16 05:21 thatpastapleco Update: AITA (20f) for not being civil towards my bf’s (20m) chomo dad and enabler mom?

Previously on last post: bf wanted me to spend time with his family. Dad’s a kiddie diddler. Told him fuck no and I hate them forever and ever amen. Felt bad but stood firm. Wanted to talk about it later.
UPDATE:
I’m surprised and appreciative at how much feedback I’ve gotten on this post. I’ve tried taking the time to go through every comment and let them sit for a while before talking to him. Side note: the amount of people who are so out of touch to throw “dump him” around like you’re reading me IKEA instructions is wild. This is a difficult situation. I guess that’s my karma for being so harsh to him. I’ll take it.
With that said, he asked if I wanted to talk about it when I got home from work, and I said yes, if he wants to. It didn’t go well, and it wasn’t as in-depth as I’d hoped. When we both got home, he told me that he understands why I feel how I do, and he said he wants to confront them and tell them why I never come around. He said it wouldn’t end well, but that it’s for the better that I don’t have any contact with them. Not going to lie, it didn’t make me feel any better. I don’t see how telling them why I hate them would help. I feel like it would just make the rest of his family uncomfortable around me or push me away (which might also be best). He’d already confronted his mother about what happened months ago, and she glossed over it as if he never mentioned it. Aside from telling me this, he will keep contact with them. I’ll be the only one cut out.
I told him that it will only get worse with time, but he was so focused on the now that he didn’t seem to understand the weight of what I was saying. “We’ll see.” I asked about his sisters upcoming wedding, how that will play out, and he told me that he doesn’t mind if I don’t go. I admit, I got very frustrated and hurt. I insisted that I wanted to go, that it was important. He said he understood and he also wanted me to, just didn’t know what to do or how to handle it. Again, I’m cut out.
He said it’s impossible for his father to be leave the picture because of “his mom”. She will never turn him away, so he’ll always be around.
More context: his father is living with his grandmother. Mother is living with his brother, but father still visits. Seems pretty simple. Pretty cut and dry. But somehow it’s still not. I’ll admit right now that I want him to just say fuck them and cut contact. It can’t possibly be doing him any good. It had to be out of some desperation to have people in his life, right? Genuinely, I can’t wrap my head around why he would want continue contact with that. He lives with me, so he doesn’t have to worry about going home to them. He’s financially independent. I can’t imagine what he’s feeling, but also I can’t grasp why he wouldn’t jump ship on those pieces of shit now that he’s finally away from them. He moved in with me in the first place because he can’t stand them.
Also, as it turns out, his sister still allows her child around them “when they’re not drinking”. I was so insanely furious, but I didn’t express it. I just told him I wouldn’t want our child around them period. He looked sad after I said that. I was honestly so angry that I didn’t retain what he said next. Apologies.
I really don’t think he understands just how fucked up this is. He isn’t thinking farther into the future, despite saying that he sees me in his future long-term. At the end of all of this, all I could think is “what the fuck is wrong with these people? This whole family is shot to hell”. Excuses. Excuses.
I hate this. I understand what might have to happen, but I’m not ready to. It’s not fair. He’s the best friend and partner I’ve had, probably ever. He’s so loving, so gentle, so good to me. He’s a treasure. He’s everything I’ve ever looked for in a partner, and I don’t mean that in a naive way. I could say that with the clearest head. He’s just a coward around his family and refuses to walk away, and I would never make him. Still, I do not want to lose him. And please do not bombard me with “other fish in the sea” comments. I promise you, I could not care less right now. I understand it’s coming from a good place, but don’t. I’m torn apart. This is so goddamn unfair. Why did this have to be his family?
Fuck me. I’m sorry this wasn’t the update everyone was hoping for. It’s still unfolding as I type this. We haven’t spoken since, since we don’t know what to say. I want to say we’ll talk more about it tomorrow, but it’ll be more circle talk. He’s deluded himself into having a “happy family”, and I won’t be apart of it. His grand solution is simply cutting me out of important shit.
I’m also sorry for the random spurts of emotion, added those into my draft while drunk. Still am.
This part is absolutely me being naive, but hopefully him telling his family why I don’t come around will make a decent wave. Doubt it though. If the situation itself didn’t, this surely won’t. Part of me wants to hold on, though.
It’s not my place to change his mind, nor to try and fix it. If this is the life he is willing to live, then I will respect his choice and leave it at that. It will hurt stupid. I’m not ready. I don’t want to go. I’m almost willing to be civil. Almost. But still no.
Thank you all for being here. Tbh if I make it out of this unscathed, I’ll have your support, advice, and listening ears to thank. Fucking love you bunch of random strangers. Fuck pedophiles. Fuck you Walter. Fuck me. Fuck this. Fuck the Kroger off 29.
I’ll keep you updated if it matters. Goodnight all, and thank you again. Sorry for whining, had to do it to em. Roast me.
Edit: children are not an option at this point in time, especially not with him and the situation he’s in. No worries about that possibility 😅
Edit again: thank you for all the comments and advice, even if I was hesitant to listen to it. I know what’s coming next. Sucks, but can’t fight it anymore.

2023.12.14 00:05 Nagotoro Questions about DIY Mattress specs

Hi, I'm creating a DIY mattress build for myself (5'4, 140lbs) and I'm going for a memory foam hybrid mattress (I like the contour of the memory foam to receive lower back support, I have a bit of a curve). Currently I have a 4" memory foam mattress topper (unsure on the ILD, but it's cheap and old) on top of a IKEA Haugesund mattress, which is serviceable. This is what I have drafted for my DIY mattress:
Comfort Layer: 12 ILD 3" memory foam mattress topper (Foam Factory)
Transitional/Insulation Layer: 19 ILD 1" latex foam layer (SOL)
Support Layer: 6" Quantum Edge Elite Pocketed Coils
My questions are as follows:
Should I opt for a lower or higher ILD memory foam layer? Is the disparity between 12 ILD and 19 ILD on my comfort and transitional layers too high, should they have a smaller difference in firmness? Is 1" enough insulation as an insulation layer or should I opt for a 2" layer instead? Are coils too firm for my body type, should I opt for foam instead? Thanks.

2023.12.02 02:57 SnooHabits5900 Outgrew my old shelf. It was time to build a new one!

Outgrew my old shelf. It was time to build a new one!
(Picture 1) new shelf i built myself, finished and loaded up. This allowed me to consolidate my collection which had been spread over 3 shelves and separated by genre. Was about $250 dollars worth of wood. The bulk of it is 23/32" 4'x8' sheathing. The space between the shelves is 13", but tbh i wish I'd gone 14" as I have a box set that doesn't fit.
(Picture 2) my old shelf; packed to the gills and covered with the family's things. It's mostly punk rock with some indie, metal, and recent(ish) pop mixed in. All my 70s and 80s rock and pop was relegated to a secondary shelf while my soundtracks were on a third.
(Picture 3) plans, hopes, and dreams! These plans i drafted were to fit a specific nook in my listening room. These were the 3rd version. The price tag for it was about $250 in wood from Lowes. We don't have an Ikea here so the goal was to make something nice and functional that still came in cheaper than what they would charge us to ship a 4x4 Kallax. I think that mission was a success, yes?
(Pictures 4 and 5) the shelf after just being finished and letting the paint dry. Wife had a great idea to paint the shelf dividers gold. I used some chair rail molding to hide the plywood and they really do look great and contrast the pink nicely.
Took about two weeks of working on it here and there, but now my whole collection is on one shelf that really adds something to the room. Left myself plenty of room to grow too. Anyone else build their own setup? See anything on the shelves you love? Have i reached the word count minimum? Yeah probably haha.
Anyway, I'm stoked on how it came out and I'm freaking proud of myself
