Chapter 2 is now ready with an image attached
Chapter 2 - Scouting and Selection
On the ships, the vikings had reached the foggy place they went to before, in the previously failed attempt to take the nest the previous time. And while Stoick looked out on the blinded horizon, he would call out orders until he was approached by another viking.
Phlegma: “Erm, Stoick?”
Stoick: “What is it Phlegma?…”
Phlegma: “Is everything alright?… You’ve had your nose incredibly out of joint after what Hiccup revealed and now this?… Is there any reason to it at all?”
Stoick: “The plan is simple Phlegma… Find the nest, destroy it and kill the dragons off…”
Phlegma: “I know but why attack now? It doesn’t seem… You know… Quite as planned out as the last few times we did this…”
Stoick: “Why are you questioning me about this?”
Phlegma: “You’ve hardly said a word besides barking orders at us, even Spitelout is getting concerned…”
He just ignores her, and continues to stare out into the fog.
Phlegma: “Did something else happen with Hiccup?…”
Stoick: “Don’t ever mention his name again…”
Phlegma: “What? Why?…”
Stoick: “He’s nothing to do with me anymore…”
Another viking on his ship who hears this, then approaches Stoick with a question.
Hoark: “Stoick?… Did you disown your boy?… Over this?…”
Stoick: “Well I’m not holding a banner about it but yes… He sided with the dragons and now my credibility here is just about ruined…”
Spitelout: “Well good riddance I say, that kid’s been nothing but trouble, I just hope he hasn’t influenced my boy-o to do something similar.”
Phlegma: “Hey! Don’t you start Spitelout, or I’ll toss you overboard!”
Stoick: “Everyone shut up! This isn’t helping… Just get back to the search.”
He barked out as everyone with disapproving, tense or frightened looks continue to manage their posts. Avoiding sea stacks, and keeping an eye out for any dragons that would try to approach.
Meanwhile back on Berk, Hiccup and Astrid reach the arena, eyeing off a cage thinking about the dragon that would suit her best, as well as trying to look for Toothless.
Astrid: “This is… Definitely crazy…”
Hiccup: “Like I said earlier Astrid, crazy is what we do best here.”
They then hears footsteps approaching, which Hiccup didn’t anticipate since everyone else had left the island. After a few seconds they stop, and as they turn around to look who it was, they see the other four dragon training students. One of them, Fishlegs, then starts to speak.
Fishlegs: “If you’re planning on getting eaten, I’d definitely go with the Gronckle."
Astrid: “What are you guys doing here? And why would you say something like that Fishlegs?”
Fishlegs: “Sorry… Group anger makes me nervous and I’m just trying to fit in with it…”
Hiccup: “Save your breath… It’s not like you’ll be using it much to curse me out anyway…”
Snotlout: “What even are you planning?”
Hiccup: “Self imposed exile… It’s better off this way given the circumstances, and don’t you guys try and talk me out of it… There’s nothing left for me here on Berk, I’m essentially just another mouth to feed and I’ve just eaten my last morsel…”
Fishlegs: “Hiccup, I know what I said earlier may have come off as harsh, but we’re not here to ridicule you.”
Hiccup: “You aren’t?”
Tuffnut: “We aren’t?”
Fishlegs: “Of course not guys, we talked about this earlier?”
Ruffnut: “Oh right, we just tune out a lot of the time.”
Snotlout: “Ugh… You two…”
Fishlegs: “Anyway we’re here because we want to come with you both.”
Hiccup: “Wait, what!?”
Astrid: “And how do you know I’m going with him?”
She asks in shock, as Snotlout then points to her basket of assorted items.
Snotlout: “We figured it out as soon as you ran out of the house with that basket.”
Fishlegs: “And after what we saw you attempt to do today, we connected the dots with the previous lessons we all had.”
Hiccup: So… You knew?…”
Fishlegs: “Yes.”
Hiccup: “And you’re not upset at this? You don’t think I’m a traitor?”
Fishlegs: “Absolutely not.”
Snotlout: “Not really.”
Ruffnut: “I’m actually very impressed by this.”
Tuffnut: “I’m still slightly confused but it seems everyone’s in agreement with you here so, I’m with you little dude.”
Hiccup: “Guys… I- I don’t know what to say…”
Astrid: “Well you can start with what your plan is for us to leave here.”
Hiccup: “Good point, but what I need to do first is find Toothless.”
After he explains this, he hears Toothless’s trademark roar in a cage next to the Gronckle’s, and saw a flash of purple underneath the door. Deducing his best friend was locked up in there, he approaches the cage, opens the door and in a flash ends up on the floor with the Night Fury licking his face.
Hiccup: “Aaahhhh! Agh, hey, I’m glad to see you too bud! It’ll be okay now that you’re out of there.”
Toothless ends his lick barrage and lets out a purr, before seeing Astrid, and smiling at her. Eventually turning to the rest of the teenagers with a snarl, and charging up a fireball until Hiccup intervenes.
Hiccup: Whoa, whoa, Toothless, Stand down! They’re not going to hurt you.
The dragon then lets the fireball dissipate in his mouth, after letting out a cough and continues to stare at them.
Fishlegs: “Oooh! A Night Fury! I never dreamed I’d see one in the flesh!”
Tuffnut: “Um… What happened to his tail?”
Hiccup: “Oh, er… Well you guys remember when I said to my father that I shot down a Night Fury and none of call believed me?…”
They all nod with scattered ‘yes’s and ‘uh-huh’s after he asks this.
Hiccup: “Well that was the result of it…”
Fishlegs: “And did you make that artificial one for him?”
Hiccup: “Yes, because otherwise he wouldn’t be able to fly.”
Snotlout: "Oh great, not just great, perfect even. The dragon lover has hurt one of his closest friends.”
Astrid: “This was before he and Toothless became friends”
Tuffnut: “Why does he call him Toothless? All dragons have sharp teeth.”
Hiccup: “Show ‘em bud.”
Toothless then demonstrates to them all his retractable teeth, forcing them into his jaw and allowing the group to admire it for a while, before unsheathing them again.
Hiccup: “That is why.”
Ruffnut: “That’s incredible! I’m very impressed Hiccup~”
She responds in a strangely flirty tone, causing Hiccup to become nervous and Astrid to stare her down.
Fishlegs: “So… Um… How do we get our own dragons?”
Hiccup: “I’ll show you, just do as I tell you, and you could very well make a fire-breathing friend for life.”
He begins to explain with a more confident smile, as he approaches the Deadly Nadder’s cage, and opens it.
Back with the boats, Stoick’s crew ends up becoming more despondent as after a considerable amount of time they still don’t end up closer to the nest. Assuming they merely went in circles, he then orders the ships to split up and take other paths, causing more confusion in the soldiers.
Stoick: “I don’t care if you don’t like it, I’m the chief, and my way goes!”
Spitelout: “Stoick, we’ve done this once before and we never return with a full crew afterwards!”
Stoick: “Oh would you like to be running this particular mission?”
Spitelout: “I’m just pointing out that maybe-”
Stoick: “Well you’ll have time to point things out when we get there, now keep your positions!”
He goes back to eyeing out the fog, while Spitelout angrily informs the rowers to keep moving, and orders two ships to split from the main group and row further to the starboard side.
Back at the arena, and Hiccup gently coaxes the last dragon to exit his cage, the Monstrous Nightmare.
Hiccup: “It’s okay… We’ve done this once before big guy.”
He leads him further out into the arena. Even though the teens had already seen him doing this with the Gronckle, the Zippleback and the Nadder, they still watch on in awe. Hiccup, then having lead the Monstrous Nightmare out, then leads him to Snotlout.
Snotlout: “Wait! What are you-!?”
Hiccup: “Whoa, just relax… It’s okay, It’s okay.”
He replies to both Snotlout and the dragon, as he grabs Snotlout’s hand. Putting it gently on the Monstrous Nightmare’s nose, causing the dragon to purr, and Snotlout to have a small giggle in disbelief.
Snotlout: “Okay, this is amazing! Hey, where are you going Hiccup?”
Hiccup: “Well, you’re all going to need something to help you hold on for a while, because we’re going to be riding these guys, to find ourselves a new home. Now there has to be some rope in here somewhere…”
He begins to look through the munitions trough, then hearing a voice by the gate calling out to them all.
Gobber: “Actually Hiccup, you could make them their own saddles, you have the time after all.”
Hiccup: “Gobber? How did you know about that? And why are you not with the rest of the village?”
Gobber: “I heard there was a slight tiff between you and your father, and wanted to at least try and help you out.”
Hiccup: “Well that’s an understatement… As far as he’s concerned he’s not even my father anymore…”
Gobber: “So I heard, and that was wrong, so I didn’t join him on his insanely deadly mission. What I will do though is help you kids out, so what can I start with?”
Hiccup: “Well if you insist Gobber, and we’re going to need measurements for everybody and their new dragons. Just to make sure we have enough material to make the saddles, and ensure they don’t come off while we’re flying.”
Gobber: “Righty-ho, I’ll see if I can find the tape measure!”
He replies with determination, as he and Hiccup rush off to the smithy to get the saddles ready, while the rest of the teens acquaint themselves with their new dragons.
Tuffnut: “I still don’t get why we have to share one…”
Astrid: “Because all the other dragons have been taken by the rest of us.”
Fishlegs: “Plus, among certain disciplines you guys work far better together, instead of apart.”
Ruffnut: “No denying that!~”
Fishlegs: “The Zippleback is much the same way, and with you guys sharing him, it would be far easier for things like rescue missions, search and seize-”
Tuffnut: “Ultimate destruction?”
Fishlegs: “What!? No!-”
Snotlout: “Leave it Fishface, they’re already engrained in it…”
An exasperated sigh escapes Fishlegs’s mouth, as he, Snotlout and Astrid are forced to watch this spectacle go on. Hiccup meanwhile, ends up having another heart-to-heart with Gobber.
Gobber: “So how long has this thing with dragons been going on?”
Hiccup: “Er… Sort of on and off since the early morning, raid months ago.”
Gobber: “When you said you hit a Night Fury?”
Hiccup: Yeah… Anyway it turned out you and everyone else were right… I’m not a dragon killer… Not even a proper viking in their eyes… But what I became, was something more valuable. A dragon trainer.”
Gobber: “Dragon trainer?”
Hiccup: “Understanding their ins and outs, gaining trust with tossing away weapons and feeding them fish, and in Toothless’s case, helping him regain his ability to fly.”
Gobber: “That’s quite the achievement.”
Hiccup: “Heh, you must be the only adult here that thinks that… Everyone else had kind of deemed me as an outcast… No one looks in my direction just like they used to before all this, and now even my dad doesn’t want a bar of me…”
Gobber: “Hiccup… I know you’re going through a rough time at the moment, but is this really the way to go?… You’ve got an entire lifetime laid out ahead of you lad. And I-”
Hiccup: “What life?… It honestly feels like I’m no longer welcome here by anyone, especially my own father… I’ve mentioned to you before that he doesn’t listen to me… I just wish for once he would realise that I could have valuable insight into all this stuff about Berk, vikings and the dragons, but he’s just too… Stubborn and set in his ways…”
Hearing this soliloquy, Gobber simply sighs and puts his hand on Hiccup’s shoulder.
Gobber: “I’m sure things will turn around for you soon Hiccup… In the meantime at least you’ll have your friends around you… Speaking of which, we should make a start on their saddles, shouldn’t we?”
Hiccup: “Yep, you’re right Gobber, now let’s get that forge lit-”
Not realising Toothless had followed them there, he lets out a plasma blast reigniting the coals. Giving Gobber a surprised gasp, but Hiccup looks over at the both of them with confusing before turning into amusement.
Hiccup: “Just so you know Toothless, you didn’t have to do that, because you’re not a tool, but thanks.”
He replies to his best bud as he sets some old discarded metal on top of the hot coals, and begins pressing on the bellows. After some time, they arrive back at the arena with the finished saddles. And after putting them onto the dragons, get ready to set off.
Hiccup: “Well I guess this is it Gobber, I’ll make sure to write every so often.”
Gobber: “Och, I have faith in ye, lad. Don’t ye worry”
Snotlout: “Yeah, but it’s going to be ages before the mail arrives at either location.”
Hiccup: “But it won’t have to”
He replies to Snotlout with a grin, as he unleashes another secret weapon, in the form of a Terrible Terror with a cylindrical container loosely tied around his neck.
Snotlout: “Whoa!”
Tuffnut: “What the-?”
Fishlegs: “Wow.”
Hiccup: “Gang, this here is Messenger. He’s going to be part of our new mail delivery service, or Terror mail as I like to call it”
Gobber: “Terror Mail?”
Hiccup: “Yep, this little tube around his neck, will be used to store telegrams and all sorts of written documents, and transport them to the recipient carefully without getting dropped, drenched, or torched”
Astrid: “And what if Stoick were to see him arriving on or leaving Berk?”
Hiccup: “Honestly, I can’t even try think about it… But that’s why Gobber when he arrives with anything, you are to keep him in the shop, hidden up in the back corners so no-one discovers him.”
Gobber: “Er… Righty-ho, I’ll do my best…”
Hiccup: “Good, ready to fly gang?”
Teens: “Yes!”
Hiccup: “Alright, now hold tight.”
He informs them as he sets his leg into Toothless’s mechanical stirrups.
Hiccup: “Let’s go bud.”
With a mighty roar, Toothless rushes upwards into the air, the rest of the teens follow suit. Astrid taking the position directly behind Toothless and Hiccup, Snotlout close behind them, the twins slightly lagging due to another argument, and Fishlegs pulling up the rear with his Gronckle. Gobber watches them fly off, giving them a send off wave as he heads back to the blacksmith stall.
And that's the last teaser I put out, the rest will be on Wattpad

2024.05.15 08:44 Icy_Power8143 Planning for Master's Studies to Prepare for a PhD

Hi I'm currently preparing to go to the US to pursue a Master's starting in Fall 2024 (expecting to graduate in 2026.) I plan to apply for a PhD afterward, so I want to ask how to plan my Master's studies and schedule to best meet the requirements for a PhD.
I designed my timeline is as follows:
I have a few questions:
  1. How to balance time between research and classes? Should I contribute most of my time and energy to the research? (The coursework is quite heavy...)
  2. How to maximize output in the research? What should I aim for / what to expect to gain from this.
  3. If I want to stay in the research group for a PhD, should I discuss this with the professor from the beginning or wait until I have some good results?
  4. Considering this is a two-year program that offers CPT opportunities, should I use this to get an internship?
  5. Anything I should do now (May) to prepare for that?
I appreciate any advice, as I'm quite new to this topic. Thank you very much!

2024.05.15 08:37 Kushu23 Am I learning to drive the wrong way?

I have been going on small driving lessons after 10PM with my dad since June of 2023. However I was preparing for my college entrance exams (JEE) so I have only been to 6 lessons, 1 hour each, with my father.
I have only practiced on our old 2008 Hyundai i10 and while I have managed to learn how to drive smoothly (rarely a few stalls which happen while I'm moving at 3km/h) and we have been practicing in a small road where at night there are other people also learning at night but its mostly empty.
So my father took me on the main road for the first time a few days back on my 6th lesson, but when I was making a U turn and while the car was slanted I could see the cars behind in the rear view and middle mirror, and ended up panicking and stalling the car in the middle of the road. Obviously my father got furious and started shouting that I should have looked in the mirrors, but I couldn't while the car was in the middle of the turn.
I would like to mention that my father is not a bad teacher, he has always been patient with me when we were on the empty road and has guided me, and I understand why he got mad there. I'm not blaming him.
However my friend told me that in just one day of practice, he was able to drive on the main road. I was confused and wonder what I have been doing wrong.
Yes, my original plan was to learn from driving school after learning the basics from my dad, but my college classes start way earlier than anticipated, one day before my 18th birthday, so driving school is a no go.
If someone could tell me what I can do better to better understand roadsense, and how to learn driving more effectively, that would be appreciated.
P.S.- I'm in India, and all of the drivers here drive recklessly and they are unpredictable, so that's why my dad hesitated so long to take me to the main road.

2024.05.15 08:35 Puzzleheaded-Car1239 Bisaya's "Tama Attitude" in workplace

I read a subreddit about the long feud between Bisaya and Tagalogs and that Bisaya has this called "Tama" attitude. I couldn't agree more.
~long post ahead~
Based on my experience, most of my excruciating scenarios where I couldn't stand someone's work ethic happens to be with a Bisaya colleague.
This started two years ago. We got deployed in a school where we need to stay in.
  1. I got a Bisayan roommate who's overly controlling on how we should act and behave in our dorm. She would want to make almost all decisions like when we should clean the room (anytime she wants) or how the room should look like. She would comment even on our meal routine and how we shouldn't cook something because she didn't like a certain dish. But for us, we couldn't voice out our choices because we will be resented. It came to a point where it got suffocating and it left me no choice but to exchange dorms.
In relation to the title, at work, she wasn't as different. Since she had a connection to our boss, she acts as if she has a say to everything our colleagues do. PS, we are both newbies and we shall be the ones to reach out and learn to get to know them but she chose to intimidate our fellow employees instead. Like for example, our colleagues started putting out their lunchbox at 11:55am. When I asked her if she'd like to eat, she says "No thanks, it's still 5 minutes until lunch" loudly for our officemates to hear. I felt the tension and the awkward silence after. After that, nobody ever talks with her at work.
  1. Another Bisayan speaker got to orient us for a week at work. She overhears another Bisayan colleague and I discussing about the program. Let me code my colleague R (he) and the speaker J (she). The orientation was in between a busy schedule on closing the previous year and transitioning to a new one. R was asking if I could replace him to host the event which will be 30 mins prior the start. I normally don't have a problem with impromptu tasks if it would be hours of prep before the actual, but this one I rejected. I said no and explained I still have deadline for closing the year so all I could do is attend the orientation. The speaker, J, butted in and encouraged me that what I'd do is simple. Still for me, I preferred hosting if I was conditioned to do so or if I had the time to prepare so they got a second firm "no" from me.
During the orientation, J the speaker, unsurprisingly took her sweet time teaching us on not saying "no" to the tasks we were being given. She was reiterating that saying "no" to responsibilities was rejecting growth at work while looking at me the whole time. I knew from the start she was referring to the interaction we had earlier. I had been uncomfortable and really second guessed myself hard afterward.
Anyway, I got closure on this because I did not attend the orientation the next day and directly addressed the issue with her. Guess what? She suddenly didn't have an idea on what I was talking about and that she didn't intend to do anything that upsets me. Lesson: Don't get intimidated by passive-aggression; they will fold once you let them know you know what they're playing.
  1. Our boss is Bisaya. She's fond of employees that were from her same hometown. Unfortunately, this caused division in our work dynamic. Our Bisaya colleagues were always put on pedestal like they were given higher positions at their first year (unlike the tenured and qualified ones) and were never called out for their toxic behaviors at work. They were always the ones to break the rules they set that even clients complain but since they have power and in supervisory positions, they fall on deaf ears all the time. When they do break the rules, they are quick to ignore or they scapegoat others. But if other than them commits mistakes, they were being escalated and announced. I firmly believe this rooted from our boss' unfair treatment. It made our Bisaya colleagues think highly of themselves. Tenured and qualified employees get exhausted for nothing and get blamed for every mistake. While they are being continuously rewarded just because they are fellow BISAYA. No wonder every year, most employees resign in this company.
My conclusion - most of Bisaya I get to work with have dominating personalities and are sometimes passive-aggressive.
I'd like to know shared experiences from the comments.

2024.05.15 08:30 TheFallen0n3s How is it possible?

So my husband and I have been playing Ark SE for about 2/3 months. we have finally made the trip to the hidden lake with our arsenal of Dino's. I feel like we going nowhere fast. I keep saying we not utilizing the dino's correctly to collect and harvest.
We actually need to get rock/ore harvesters pronto ( we planning to go to herbivore island with our Argy's for Anky taming soon)
My question is - what do you all do to speed up your process/complete the island?
We haven't done a single boss, we explored 1 cave and got annihilated in the pack cave. we just feel so under prepared for everything & we almost have like 150 dino's... are we doing it wrong?
any tips for caves also appreciated.
PS - like I said out tribe is me and my spouse, that's it.

2024.05.15 08:30 karanvir530 First day on an Install Crew

Hey everyone, I currently go to trade school for HVAC and I’ve had no prior experience in the trades or anything remotely close. I have a working interview with an install crew in 2 days and I’m trying my best to prepare mentally and with tools. What should I focus on doing while I’m there? Also what are some tools I should take? I plan to go to harbor freight and just grab some essentials so I don’t just show up with nothing. And what type of ppe?

2024.05.15 07:53 freelancerinyouarea My ex’s mom unfriended me and didn’t respond/seen/liked my HMD greeting. I’m hurt because they knew he was cheating on me.

I (20f) and my ex (21m) broke up on my birthday kasi I found out he cheated on me again with the same girl (F18 na now not sure ano age niya before) from December 2022 (they were a situationship on 2020 after we ended our talking stage then after things ended with them, he courted me and we became a couple)
3 years kami. Almost a year couple then 2 and a half kaming live in due to my family situation kaya sa kanila na ako tumira. His family treated me like I was their daughter, pinaramdam nila sakin yung magulang talaga at di lang pera habol sakin katulad ng magulang ko. I love my family pero mukhang pera talaga sila, even my karampot na money sa gcash noon from my work when I was 17 pinapaopen para makita na di ako nagsisinungaling na wala akong pera + nambubugbog + baliw daw ako kasi suicidal ako.
(All of these things happened while live in kami) Ff, so we broke up September 2020 kasi nagsinungalinf siya sakin na marami sila sa reunion na kasama long term ex niya. Pinayagan ko siya kasi marami sila and may guys daw but yun pala is siya lang yung guy. Nagbeg ako sa kanya to work things out, told me he wanted space, asked me to do 3some while I was begging him to come back, found out he was communicating with the girl again, then I talked to guys and nakipagmeet up sa one guy (From January to March). Yes, I admit gumaganti lang ako sa kanya and using these guys for distraction and validation that I deserve better.
Ff, we became a couple again. This time we were trying to work things out na. I had an on-site job around May til Sept. Nalaman ko around July, they were talking pala nung girl January til April. Di ko alam. Talked to the girl and told her pag nag usap ulit sila let me know and she said yes and di niya daw alam na meron pa something samin. While ginagawa niya to ako pa tinatawag na cheater when he knew na nakikipagusap ako sa iba. Ff, birthday ko September, galing akong trabaho and sabi ko wag na magcelebrate and all kasi sayang lang, pero he surprised me and also his family, okay na okay kami not until nakita ko yung girl na nagcomment sa post niya.
I messaged the girl again, told me na sinabi sa kanya binubugbog ko daw kaya naawa daw siya and parang nabad impression, nag uusap sila sa IG and TG, also found out he had another IG na di ko alam (may other ig siya na ako lang may alam), and alam ng friends niya matagal na kaming wala, 2 friends lang niya may alam na kami pa, ako pinagkakalat na cheater and abuser (when he did this shit to me pa nga nung nakikipaghiwalay ako), found out they were talking nung kami pa, nag aya magmeetup, plan ng dates nila but sakin wala, iniistory yung girl sa isang ig, adik sa girls playing with themselves on tg. I NEVER CAME BACK but magkasama kami and he’s courting me kahit ayoko.
Around Nov, I found a guy. And we became a couple. On NYE, di ko pinansin ex ko. Nag usap na kami na aalis na ko kasi di ko narin kaya kasi mas nababaliw ako sa ginagawa niya. On NYE, I was already preparing myself kausapin family niya ans also sorted things out sa family ko na babalik narin ako. He wanted another chance after ng mga ginawa niya. I found his phone when he wasn’t around pinatago sa kapatid pero luckily binigay sakin ng kapatid niya, found out nakikipag usap na sa ibang babae when he was literally BEGGING me and telling me na magpapakamatay na siya (he always does this pag ayoko na). Found out he had a lot of F videos of girls and pov ng guys fucking those girls.
LAHAT NG CHEATING NIYA SINABI KO SA MOM AND DAD NIYA BUT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS FINE SINCE HE WASN’T MEETING THEM PERSONALLY. Pero it was my choice daw. Ang alam lang nila cheating ng anak nila, di yung pagtatangka pag ayoko na and pananakit sakin.
After I left, pinapagkalat parin kung ano ano, parang kasalanan ko pa nagkaroon ako bf.
Namiss ko lang din family niya and the way they treat me as their own. Pero now I just checked my FB account na friend ko sila yesterday lang but they unfriended me na now. Also nag greet ako ng HMD pero wala man lang pansin haha it hurts. Nagtiis ako sa ex ko because of them din kasi sila naging parents ko when I was there na walang hininging kung ano sakin.
Ang sakit lang sa part ko na parang ganito na. May bago narin naman ex ko, and parehas kami happy. Pero masakit lang talaga sa hahahaha.

2024.05.15 07:39 Ok_Collar_7108 I wanna go to medical school but that's not looking possible, what should I do?

Idk if anyone is even gonna see this but I have hit the biggest wall in my entire life and I'm actually so annoyed rn. I'm 17, 18 soon and I'm currently sitting my A-level/CAPE for sciences and communication studies (unit 1). I was fixated on going to medical school because I was thinking "Damn, sciences are so hard and I struggle with them especially cause I have such horrible memory, but I love learning all 3 of them and I like the challenge plus I'm passing" you get me? So I was saying I wouldn't wanna do all this, put in all this hard work (to me, its probably light work to someone else but idc bout them) to just stop at being a nurse, cause everyone is in my damn ears about being a nurse nurse nurse NO!!! I wanna go down a career path that'll be worth this hard work and I think that's fair. So I did some research and saw if there were any type of doctor that I was interested in and anesthesiology caught my attention and I was interested in It, so you know I continue to do deep research surrounding anesthesiology and those stuff to just know more about what's going on and I decide aight, imma do this!!!
So now I'm looking for schools cause I plan ahead, FAR ahead. And I see my 3 options....well 2, cause 1 of them is like half way across the country. So I check out my other two options right??? So option one is UWI faculty of medicine and I'm gonna admit that schools reputation is looking mad good which is good but it's so EXPENSIVE !!!! And i know medical school won't be cheap but oh my lord, so yeah I looked into school 2 and it's CSMSJ but they're weird, I tried calling and got nothing, emailing and got nothing and the aren't frequent with their posting on social media (to give options) so I was skeptical and my mom was too so I was telling my bf about how the school is weird and he looked into and said it seems they aren't so authentic cause their reviews are AI generated so I was REALLY bummed out.
So my home country is kinda wack with how the do things, so I'd have to go overseas to further my education anyway. So I was thinking...again, why not find a school in Canada that has a M.D program, offers residency in anesthesia and so on so forth. And I was then again researching, but schools this time with a distance limit. My boyfriend lives in Winniepeg so I'd have to stay close to there cause I'd be staying with him and his family if this was gonna work right??? But oh my goodness the amount of heartbreak I went through during this process is actually unfathomable. So there's 17 and 7 don't accept international students for medicine SPECIFICALLY and ig I can understand why-ish (btw one of these schools was University of Manitoba), and the others like University of Toronto and that one in Quebec is too far but they do accept international students, and today I found out about another one; University of Calgary and I thought they accepted international studies for medicine but then I'm seeing that they don't and now I'm a bit confused about that so I just set it aside for now.
Mhm...so going back to my home country, I'd probably have to go to UWI cause its literally the only option now, idc if its expensive but ik who will. My parents, they had not a single penny of college funds saved up for this moment, they make very poor financial situations and now the bank accounts are running dry, so I have to think about that too. I really do not know what to do cause sure I could go there but how wouldi complete my residency? Maybe they'd (a canadian med school) accept me then cause I'd actually have some qualifications [UWI offers a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery program (M.B.B.S) and its 5 years full time and I think they have a pre med too that's Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences (BBMedSci) and its for 3 years full time]. I would look into other schools in other regions but idk anyone from the US (family member I mean probably would have to ask mom or smtg) and I have my grandma in the UK so ig I could think of there too.
I just want someone, anyone, whether with experience or not I just wanna know what to do because all I do and know is sciences, I did some business and Information Technology too but those aren't at A-level, so I would prefer to do a occupation which requires sciences. My bf was telling me maybe I just have to switch career paths bc this is a veeerryy long process that will require money that I don't even have, I'll admit I got a bit upset with him because he's basically telling me to give up now, I mean whatever I haven't actually started but I was prepared and I was ready and now it's all these different problems popping one after the other and maybe I should listen to him and just do something else apart from obtaining generational debt. Idk and I just wanna get this figured out before it eats me alive !!! Please help, what should I do???

2024.05.15 07:38 TheJawz15 Thoughts on the Portrayal of the NCR in the Fallout TV Show

Thoughts on the Portrayal of the NCR in the Fallout TV Show
Tl;dr when the NCR are portrayed in the Fallout TV show as being a far cry from their power in Fallout 2 and New Vegas. This is because they were already collapsing and dying a slow death. From hiring people like Fantastic and not being able to vet or produce new scientists and talents, to the loss of essential resources like water that they have to use Lake Mead to get water and power they need, coupled with incompetent leadership and land owners that could easily secede and become warlords over their own domain, it is easy to see why
When the Fallout television show first came out, I noticed a lot of people complaining and criticizing the portrayal of the New California Republic and how it should not have fallen that far between Fallout New Vegas and the TV show. But I think that in New Vegas, it quite clearly stated that the NCR are on the precipice of collapse and that the play for Vegas is a Hail Mary of a dying empire. There are four instances that point me to the idea that the NCR is weaker than people think. They are: Fantastic, the guy met at Helios One, and the accompanying scientist, Dr. Ignacio Rivas, Chief Hanlon at Camp Golf, General Lee Oliver and Aaron Kimball, and the Brahmin Barons and the NCR economy. These four, in my view, show that the NCR was already starting to fall apart when they tried to make the play for Vegas in Fallout New Vegas.

The Smartest Character to Ever Appear in Fallout
Let's start with Fantastic and what he does in Helios One. What he does at Helios One is nothing. Despite the caption and official stats, this guy is running with a 3 INT, 10 CHR. He is the epitome of the incompetence within the bureaucracy in the NCR. Through his dialogue, the player will learn that the way he obtained the position he did at Helios One is some NCR officials went door to door asking for scientists and he pulled a wonderful little trick where he said that he had a theoretical degree in physics. This means that there is no vetting of candidates. That they just took a guy off the street and said, "Hey you are going to be in charge of a solar power plant that we used quite a bit of resources to gain from the Brotherhood of Steel." And if that ain't wild, I don't know what is. This also points to a lack of schools and education centers that could make scientists that the NCR can tap into when they need them for problems like this. OSI exists, but doesn't seem to have the resources to do fill the gaps made in the expansion of the NCR. But hiring an incompetent person is not the worst thing in the world most of the time. Every company and government has done it before, and will do it again. But the worst thing is that Fantastic would probably have been caught earlier for his incompetence if it wasn't for Dr. Ignacio.

The Man Behind the Fantastic
Dr. Ignacio Rivas is a simple man who wants to help everyone. But he is also emblematic of the incompetence and inability of the NCR to audit their own people. Dr. Rivas is a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse, a bunch of good people who in Fallout New Vegas, act as a sort of Red Cross organization. They handle illnesses, addictions, and other types of medical problems along with running education programs as well. But Dr. Rivas is a different type of member, one who is more akin to another member of the Followers of the Apocalypse that siphoned water away from the NCR sharecropper farm. He is acting to keep the NCR from learning about the secret of Helios One, while also making sure that its repairs do not go along with what the NCR wants, but what he wants. He wants the power to go to everyone, the NCR wants it to go to the Strip and Camp McCarran. Dr. Rivas doesn't help Fantastic and the NCR with the power situation, and is probably actively These two people at Helios One shows that the NCR either doesn't care or doesn't have the resources to audit and vet the people they put in these important areas.

Even if I side with the NCR, I still don't like this guy
The story of General Lee Oliver is one that just kind of reeks of corruption and nepotism. He is essentially the general you don't want to be serving under if you are in the military. He is egotistical, lazy, and just doesn't do well with those below him. When talking to Boone about General Oliver, he mentions that he is kind of distant, only being a signature on his discharge papers. That there was talk that Oliver wouldn't be in that position even if he wasn't buddy-buddy with the president Aaron Kimball. Without even seeing much of him, you know when you first meet him that he is not prepared for any plans that the Legion is going to throw at him. He seems to do no information gathering, no consolidation of resources to deal with the situations at Nipton, Camp New Hope, or anywhere else. He looks like the ineffectual general that people make fun of when talking about real life wars where you wonder how they even got into the position they are in. He is the hint of the level of corruption that is present within the NCR, and that if there are others who are like Oliver in positions of leadership, then it is no wonder that the NCR wasn't able to do any recovery operation in the ruins of Shady Sands.

The Man Who Started This Post
What made me think about the state of the NCR in the Fallout TV show and how it actually made sense that the NCR wouldn't be able to reclaim Shady Sands after the nuke fell on it and that the only presence they have are remnants led by Moldaver. It was a specific line that he says when you first talk to him. As he looks out over Lake Las Vegas, he mentions how beautiful the sunrise, or sunset I can't remember, is over a lake, and that there are no lakes in California. That they all dried up. This made me think that the resources that the NCR holds is actually very limited and most likely dwindling rapidly. This may also explain the desert look of a lot of California in the TV show, since there are no lakes, rivers, or bodies of water to sustain any agriculture in the area. This one set of lines shows that the NCR is probably desperate for the water and power that Hoover Dam can give and is probably the place that will save and sustain the NCR's empire. He is also a sign of the NCR incompetence that is just rampant throughout the game because they never found out that he was the one that was causing the communications problem unless the player says that they are going to arrest him and then he confesses and commits suicide.

Future Warlord
This final part is about two things that are connected, the NCR economy and Brahmin Barons. During the NCR-Brotherhood War, the NCR's gold reserve was destroyed in a Brotherhood attack, causing the NCR currency to crash in value. This in turn, caused an economic downturn of the NCR. While this was happening, the Brahmin Barons, like Heck Gunderson pictured here, took advantage of Kimball's expansionist policies to sweep up vast swathes of land for themselves. Now that there was economic instability and the way that people moved away from the NCR dollar back to bottle caps showed that people like Heck Gunderson could very well secede from the NCR and the NCR itself could fall into a state of multiple factions. It is mentioned in the quest Pheeble Will that Gunderson uses raider and warlord type tactics in gaining land that he desires. The Brahmin Barons are the ones in the greatest spot to leave the NCR while they waste resources in the Mojave. The Barons and the economy collapsing caused places like Shady Sands to fall into turmoil that was only exacerbated when the capital was moved. In the Fallout show, we see a library book that has the final check out date in 2276. There is also a chalk board with the very basic history of Shady Sands and how it "fell" in 2277. This fall is probably referring to an economic fall and the public services, like the library and schools, probably became quite limited due to the economic downturn in the NCR. Multiple states in the NCR might have also pulled away causing the NCR to consolidate around a few states like the Hub and Vault City. Which is why when Shady Sands was nuked, the NCR never came back. The only NCR presence there, were the ones that were already there, with no reinforcements or anything else.
In the end, New Vegas showed an NCR that was masquerading as a powerful force by being everywhere while doing nothing. They were an empire in their death throes and I believe that through these people we meet and what they say and represent, it shows that if the play for the Mojave doesn't work, then the NCR will collapse. The show may have shown that the NCR has actually collapsed due to the events of New Vegas not going the way of the NCR. The NCR has collapsed under its own weight, and the bear has bled out through a death by a thousand cuts.
If you made it this far then thank you very much. I am sorry if this is kind of incoherent and I rambled on too long. Let me know if I got any information wrong. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

2024.05.15 07:35 Shaderu I’m so mad at myself

Tldr: I messed up my Honor Mode run super deep into act 2, and even though I didn’t die I couldn’t go on and deleted the save. I feel stupid and incompetent. Advice welcome, but I also just needed to rant. Apologies in advance. Also apologies if this is the wrong flair, wasn’t sure what else to use.
So I’m trying to complete my first honor mode run, and after 6 or 7 attempts where something or other went wrong in act 1 (usually accidentally agro-ing allies, missing magic items, or messing up a strategy that I should’ve done better with) , I made it extremely far into act 2. Beat all the Thorms except Ketheric, did the He-Who-Was quest, explored almost everything, started on the Gauntlet of Shar. Only, I remembered I still had to do the Thaniel quest. “Not a problem,” I thought. “I can do this before my long rest, don’t wanna waste any supplies after all.” Only, I couldn’t do it. Poor planning led to the portal being destroyed and losing Halsin forever. While the run technically was still alive, something about hearing my main character go “welp, he’s dead, guess the land is fucked now shrugs” pissed me off to no end, and I deleted the run.
I just feel like such an incompetent dummy. I’ve consistently sucked at preparation all throughout this game, barely making it out of fights sometimes because Shadowheart was able to cast Sanctuary and flee. I have so much trouble just keeping track of what my builds are supposed to even do (seriously, I can’t keep Arcane Acuity and Reverberation straight in my head for the life of me), let alone what spells I have and if they might help me going forward. I had to make a damn spreadsheet just to make sure I wouldn’t miss more important items. I feel like I can’t do anything right in this game unless someone drops a guide to explain it for me because I can’t come up with a strategy myself. Even my builds were lifted from the internet, because sometimes it feels like all I can think to do is “monkey brain like to roll damage.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s been fun when I succeed but failing just feels so awful mentally, and my dumb pride won’t let me stop trying over and over. Anyone have any advice for a situation like this? How I can improve my strategy and balance everything without literally needing a walkthrough every step of the way? Much appreciated.
For reference, party was:
7/2 Dark Urge Half-orc Swords Bard-Vengeance Paladin. Used Boots of Stormy Clamour and Luminous Armor to deal big damage, had good control spells when I remembered to use them. Intimidation carried me outside combat.
8/1 Eldritch Knight Fighter-Warlock dip (for Hex). Again, big damage, good mobility, tanked really well.
6/3 Spore Druid/Life Cleric. Healing, tanking, Moonbeam-Sanctuary cheese. Multiple modes in combat, good utility outside.
9 Divination Wizard. Tried to collect as many spells as possible. Damage in combat was low and spell save DC wasn’t great but really started powering up mid-act 2. Had great summon spells

2024.05.15 07:25 Total-Mastodon-6888 Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid in Your Visa Application

The prospect of embarking on a new adventure in a foreign country can be exhilarating. However, the visa application process
can often feel like navigating a complex maze, riddled with potential pitfalls. At Adric Immigration Consultants in Bangalore, we understand the importance of meticulous preparation when applying for a visa. Here, we unveil the top 10 mistakes to avoid, ensuring your application journey is smooth and successful.
1. Incompleteness and Inaccuracy: The Cardinal Sins
Missing Information: Leaving sections blank or failing to provide all the requested documentation is a recipe for application rejection. Always double-check the application form and ensure you have gathered all the necessary documents well in advance.
Inaccuracies and Inconsistencies: Typos, factual errors, or discrepancies between your application form and supporting documents can raise red flags for immigration officers. Proofread your application meticulously and ensure all details are consistent across all documents.
Unrealistic Travel Dates: Be realistic when specifying your intended travel dates. Delays in processing are common, so factor in a buffer period between your application submission and planned travel dates.
2. Applying for the Wrong Visa: Choosing the Right Path
Misunderstanding Visa Categories: Different visa categories cater to specific purposes, such as tourism, work, or studies. Thoroughly research the visa options offered by your target country and choose the one that aligns perfectly with your travel goals. Don’t hesitate to seek professional guidance if you’re unsure about the most suitable visa category.
Ignoring Eligibility Requirements: Each visa category comes with specific eligibility criteria. Failing to meet these requirements can lead to an immediate rejection. Carefully review the eligibility requirements for your chosen visa category and ensure you qualify before initiating the application process.
3. Failing to Disclose All Information: Honesty is the Best Policy
Misrepresenting Information: Tempting as it might be to omit certain information, complete honesty is crucial when applying for a visa. Fabricating facts or failing to disclose past travel history or criminal records can have severe consequences, including permanent visa ineligibility.
Undeclared Financial Resources: Proof of sufficient financial resources is often a mandatory requirement for many visa applications. Underestimating your expenses or failing to provide adequate financial documentation can raise concerns about your ability to support yourself during your stay.
4. Missing Documentation: Leaving Gaps in Your Story
Incomplete Documentation: Every visa application requires specific supporting documents. Missing documents can create delays or lead to rejection. Carefully review the required documents list and ensure you have everything in order before submitting your application.
Outdated Documents: Certain documents like medical certificates or police clearances have expiry dates. Ensure all your supporting documents are valid and current as per the application requirements.
Improper Translations and Authentication: If any of your documents are not in the official language of your target country, ensure they are translated by a certified translator and bear proper apostille seals or legalization if mandated.
5. Neglecting Application Fees: Don’t Forget the Formalities
Missing Fees: Visa applications often come with associated fees. Failing to pay the correct fee at the designated time can delay your application processing or lead to rejection. Research the applicable fees beforehand and ensure timely payment through the designated channels.
Forgetting Additional Costs: Beyond the official application fee, there might be additional costs associated with medical examinations, biometric data collection, or courier services. Factor in all potential costs when planning your visa application budget.
6. Failing to Meet Deadlines: Time is of the Essence
Missing Deadlines: Visa applications have specific filing deadlines. Late submissions can lead to complications, missed opportunities, or even application rejection. Plan ahead, gather your documents well in advance, and submit your application before the deadline.
Improper Scheduling (Interviews): For certain visa categories, a visa interview with a consular officer is mandatory. Treat this interview seriously, schedule it well in advance to avoid last-minute complications, and arrive promptly on the designated date.
7. Inadequate Travel Insurance Coverage: Be Prepared for the Unexpected
Insufficient Coverage: Travel insurance can be a visa requirement for some countries. Ensure your chosen travel insurance plan offers adequate coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and repatriation costs.
Neglecting Specific Requirements: Some countries might have specific travel insurance coverage requirements. Double-check if your chosen plan fulfills the minimum coverage mandated by the visa category.
8. Underestimating Processing Times: Patience is Key
Unrealistic Expectations: Visa processing times can vary significantly depending on the visa category, workload of the processing center, and individual circumstances. Research the average processing times for your chosen visa and be prepared for potential delays.
8. Underestimating Processing Times: Patience is Key (continued)
Frequent Inquiries: While it’s understandable to be eager about the status of your application, avoid bombarding immigration authorities with inquiries. Most processing centers offer online portals where you can track the progress of your application.
9. Failing to Prepare for the Interview: Opportunity Knocks Once
Lack of Preparation: If a visa interview is required for your application category, thorough preparation is key. Research common interview questions, anticipate potential inquiries related to your travel plans and purpose of visit, and practice your responses beforehand.
Unprofessional Demeanor: Dress appropriately, arrive on time, demonstrate confidence and respect during the interview. First impressions matter, and a professional demeanor can significantly improve your chances of approval.
Unclear Communication: Speak clearly and concisely, answer questions directly, and avoid providing vague or contradictory information. Effective communication can significantly enhance your interview experience.
10. Going it Alone: Seek Expert Guidance
Lack of Knowledge: Immigration laws are intricate and constantly evolving. Navigating the complexities of the visa application process alone can be overwhelming. Partnering with a reputable immigration consultant like Adric Immigration Consultants in Bangalore can provide invaluable support throughout your journey.

2024.05.15 07:24 vwsalesguy Cross country trip complete N. Texas to North Carolina and back

So, I posted before that I was preparing a trip in my ID.4 to attend my daughter’s graduation in NC and that I would post an update when I returned. I just rolled back into town and wanted to get this all down before going to bed.
We left out early last Thursday and had our first recharge at the EA station in Mt. Pleasant, TX. Horrible location and the only one that doesn’t work with plug and charge. It’s set too far off the main road (2+ miles from I-30) in the center of town. I hadn’t yet understood that I need to run my battery down to the 20% range before charging so I was at 50ish% and it took all of 30 min to get me back to 80%+. I did this the rest of the day until I entered Tennessee.
Stopped again in Hope, AR, better location just off the highway, all 4 chargers seemed to be operational and plug and charge worked perfectly.
Stopped again in Little Rock, and the location was ok, but I think they need 1 closer to the merge with I-40 and I-30 tbh. Plug and charge worked fine in all location except Mt. Pleasant, so I’ll forego talking about that again.
Our next stop was the worst. Forrest City, AR showed to have 3 or 4 working chargers. 2 were completely off line and the remaining 350 Hyper fast charger only had one connector that was allegedly working. I plugged in and it would only get to 13kW. That would have taken 4 hrs to charge so I called support. After too long discussing this issue it was suggested I try the 1 station I didn’t even look at that has the ChADeMo charger and 1 150 CCS. I plugged in there and got charged fine. I chose this location because the Memphis location was definitely showing 2 chargers off line and the other 2 seemed to be used pretty often. EA is running a huge risk of having a dead spot in their coverage if they don’t get both of these stations repaired soon.
Next was Jackson, TN. Nice clean location, and it was here that I learned all about state of charge. My friend who works for VW Academy told me before my previous stop to only charge to what I would need to leave 20% or so on the battery when I stop for my next charge to get the faster speeds. I did that and rolled into Jackson with 19%. The charge speed was 139kW.
We had a hotel booked in Nashville that night so we rolled into there and got checked in, met up with my dad who arrive 2 hours earlier and he went with me to the Willow Commons station and I got myself squared away for the next day.
My efficiency on Day 1 was atrocious at 3.1 mi/kWh. I was running 75-80 the whole way keeping up with traffic and driving that 12 hours like a madman. I also have notes for the Tennessee DOT about their potholes on I-40, like, why spend the money on an electronic sign warning people about them instead of sending a road crew out to fill them? But I digress…
The next day, with my newly found knowledge, we stuck to my plan and stopped at Cookeville, Knoxville, Asheville, Statesville and Hillsborough where I was easily able to achieve much higher charge rates because I rolled in with +/- 20% charge left. This decreased my charge time exponentially. My efficiency on day 2 climbed to 3.3 mi/kWh because of driving sport mode in the mountains. I’m so glad I read about that here.
Graduation was awesome, the speaker was funny, hundreds of pictures were taken and my daughter was ecstatic to see us and spend time together.
So, the trip back is where this gets fun.
I decided we weren’t going to keep up with traffic. We were going to drive no faster than 70 by god we stuck to that plan for the most part. My efficiency ended up at 3.6 - which is what I get rolling around Dallas. Had good experiences at all the same stops coming back, but a lot shorter times charging since I only needed to get to 65-70% to optimize my next charging. Stayed in Sport mode the whole way home and got better performance for it.
Now, Nashville to my home is about a 9.5 hr stretch if you do it straight through. Realistically it’s a 12 hour day with charging stops and all.
Due to traffic in Memphis and Little Rock, we ended up making it in 14 hours. Now, 1.5 of that is due to a little issue with the Taco Bell in Jackson, TN. If you ever go through there and feel like Taco Bell, give them your business but be patient. They are horribly understaffed and probably should have hung out a sign saying “drive thru only”. Anyway, we ate for free and got loaded up with coupons from the apologetic manager and we made it home in one piece.
Great learning experience and a fun trip and we got my daughter home for a couple of months before she goes off to grad school! Happy traveling y’all!
Edit: I forgot to mention, all of these charge stops were EA stations since I have the free charging. Travel cost was $0 for this entire trip, dad picked up the tab for the AirBNB in North Carolina so we paid for a hotel room 1 night in Nashville and an AirBNB in Nashville coming home. I think once we factor in food cost it just shy of $500 for the whole trip.

My Step Dad purposefully ruined my $900 prom dress by washing it! Is there anything I can do such as take legal?

Edit: Sorry for some reason Reddit took my original post down. This is my first time using Reddit
’ve never posted on here, but I really need advice because I’m so distraught and have no clue what I should do I’m only 17 and don’t know if there’s any legal action I can take. So for a little background I live with my bio mom and her husband since my dad and mom separated and were never married. I originally lived with my dad since I was 2 he won custody during the custody battle. However he later lost custody of me after having a bad work accident that made him paralysed and he wouldn’t be able to take care of me but I still see him every weekend and the whole summer. I moved in with my mom and her husband and their two sons ,1 stepbrother and 1 half brother, when I was 10. And ever since then my stepdad basically directly and indirectly says that I’ve disrupted their lives by coming back into my mother’s life, because I’m an extra person they have to take care of.
I’ve been working since I was in 10th grade and saving up for my senior yeacollege since last year with the money from my job since my mom and her husband let me know that only my mom would only help me with the basics such as my graduation cap and gown, senior dues, and senior class photo. Anything else I would have to pay for myself such as prom.
I get paid about $400 every two weeks from my job which Ive been saving in full, and then making extra money doing nails about $100 a week plus tip which I use as my spending money. Since it’s my senior and last year of high school I’ve been wanting to go all out for prom so I set a $800 budget for my prom dress. My prom is in April and I wanted to get my prom dress early since most of the actual cute ones sell out quick. So I went prom dress shopping in December and found a beautiful dress that’s costed $890. It’s dark green with a long train with rhinestone imbedded into it with glitter in the dress.
When I first showed my mom and stepdad the dress they asked how much it was, which I told them the amount and my mom said that she wouldn’t be paying for a dress that expensive which I replied it’s okay because I have more than enough money saved up to buy it, and I’ll still have a lot of money left over (23k to be exact but only my mom knows that) mom said I could get the dress and that it was very pretty, however my stepdad said that it’s irresponsible and a waste of money and I should use it for better things like helping out the family and paying some of the bills. And get a dress cheaper that’s max $300. Mind you both his son’s own PS5 and multiple $200+ shoes.
Long story short my mom disagreed with him and I ended up getting the dress in the end and she even put $150 toward it.
However ever since then he constantly brings up that I help pay for things around the house since I have so much money to throw away but my mom always shuts it down saying that I work hard for my money to save it and I already help about with paying the Netflix, Amazon prime, and Hulu bills while my step brother (18) don’t pay anything.
Anyway last Saturday we got into a really big disagreement because my stepdad suggested I should help my step brother pay for his prom to which I responded with no. He later called me selfish and said that it’s not fair that I get an expensive outfit while he doesn’t. And I guess I said with in a snarky way I responded with that’s not my child or my problem. He later tried to complain to my mom and she said that I was right and that if anything he should pay for his own prom.
Well today when I woke up from a nap I noticed my prom dress was missing from my closet since it’s in the very front of my closet and looked around for it. I then asked my stepdad if he has seen it since my mother was at work. And he said he had, and in fact he was washing it, while giving me a condescending smile. I immediately ran downstairs and saw my dress being washed on the heavy duty cycle I immediately cancel it and it was ruined. Majority of my rhinestones came out and the glitter was washed out the whole dress had been mangled.
I took one look at it and then threw it a trash bag and left for my friends house with the dress. I texted my mom and sent her pictures but I’m currently at my friends house and laying on her bed. My friends parent hanged it outside to allow it to air dry so my stepdad can’t put the blame on them if the dried it in the dryer. What makes me know he did to spite me because he never washes clothes, cooks or anything since “he’s the man of the house so he shouldn’t have to”, so there was no viable reason he could have for washing it, even if it needed washing.
Is there anything I can do? I know neither of them can replace being they are tough financial situation? I’ll update you guys when mom gets home. So far my stepdad has called 2x but I haven’t answered him. And my mom’s at work and can’t receive calls.

My heart hurts for you. Get him to admit it over text then file small claims court.
OOP: He’s not gonna admit I don’t think imma try to get audio but we also have cameras with audio imma try and use them when my mom gets off

Rhodin265
I didn’t see this suggested, but since you’re paying for the streaming services, change your passwords and log out all devices. Giant toddlers don’t get their tanties rewarded with their stepkid’s Netflix.

Fromashination
It would be a dastardly shame if Step Dad's favorite shoes were accidentally left on the porch in the snow all night.

Update - 1 day later

Edit 1:I don't know how to add updates so imma just add an edit but my mom and me just got off the phone and she's pissed and otw home. She's currently otw home so me and my friend and her dad are otw to my house and my mom said she was gonna call the cops as soon as she get off the phone so they may be there by the time I get there. We've taken pictures and the uncle (my mom brother) will be over there by 8 bc I contacted him while at work. I've listened to all your suggestions about withdrawing my money out of my account so I thinking and I talked to my dad about that as well and told me I can stay with him
Edit/Update 2:When I got home my friend stayed in the car while her dad walked me in, and my step dad was already gone. However police were at the house. As of now police said they can’t really arrest him because it’s not like he broke the law of stealing (I don’t know how to explain it basically this theft isn’t breaking the law bc he washed it and didn’t keep it) they suggested I can get a confession and get him to pay or take him to small claims court. Also the dress is non refundable if damaged so I can’t return it or anything. While explaining to my mom what happened I kinda fumbled my words and started crying and she hugged me as I cried. And she said that he’s gonna pay for this, this financial issue has actually been a on going disagreement and I think he just pulled the last straw bc she is PISSED. Also I talked to my uncle and he’s actually off work and over his way over here.
Him and my stepdad apparently have a rough history since my dad has had a smart mouth towards him in the past. While explaining to my uncle what happened he said that it would be alright and if anything he’ll buy back the dress before it sells out, so I’ll have my dress by prom but he does expect my step dad to pay me back one way or another so I’m basically probably gonna get my dress for free. Maybe that’s a little win. I’ll update more probably later tonight. But things seem to be good.
Edit: Also to clear up some confusion I pay the streaming service bills bc I really want to watch the shows on those services and my mom works hard but doesn’t make enough to have those services on top so I’ve offer to pay them so we could have them. She not a horrible “I’ll pick my husband over you” mother and she always defend me and he’s never pulled a stunt like this just tries to convince her to control my money and savings. And she’s never spent my saving either. I feel like thats why they always clash because he has a mindset of we have all these financial troubles and your daughter could solve them with her savings and you have access to them.
Edit/Update 4: Okay so my uncle came over and he and my mom had a little argument bc he blamed her for enabling my stepdads behaviour by not leaving him and thats why he felt comfortable to do what he did. And she argued back saying she always defended me against him and has never taken any of my money (which is true). We all talked about it a bit and she revealed that last night they had actually had a argument about paying off a car payment because she made a comment about how all these bills are taking a toll on her, and he made a comment about how it wouldn’t be that much of a toll if she used my savings and didn’t allow me to spend it on foolishness and she got mad and defensive bc he keeps bringing it up.
He also said that the $900 I spent could’ve payed off that car payment for the next 2 months. Btw he only know about my savings because he know how’s much I get paid and that I’ve been saving all of it. So we think that’s what triggered him to throw my dress in the washer.
My mom and stepdad has also been texting back and fourth and he admitted that he washed it to teach me a lesson that I shouldn’t spend that much money on a dress that can be destroyed that easily but he put the setting on heavy duty so he obviously intended to destroy it. My uncle has also offered to replace the dress so I don’t need to worry about not getting to wear my special dress. We called the boutique and explained it to them and they say they can order another dress although it won’t be there until Feb 23 which fine tbh.
My mother sent my step dad a long threatening message basically calling him out shes kinda heated rn so imma try and ask for a screenshot later. Her and my father also spoke and decided that it’d be best that I get my own bank account so that my step dad can’t use the excuse that she has access to my account so that’s also great. My mom and I had a talk about what gonna happen after this and she said shes not sure as of just yet bc it’s all a little too much for her bc she seriously contemplating leaving him, but i guess she don’t wanna actively discuss that right now. Also my stepdad is currently at a friends house. I’ll continue to update possibly may get one tomorrow. My friends parent are gonna keep the dress over their house and imma pick it up tomorrow to have as proof.
Edit:I apologise for not being to update since Reddit took down my post because of a “no walls text rule” that I was unaware of but it’s all good now
Edit/Update 5: My uncle has transferred me $1000 for my prom dress and I’m actually planning on using the money for replace the dress and buy new shoes. He’s very well off, which was one reason I contacted him in the first place.
So I plan on just calling the boutique and seeing if they can reorder it and I’ll just pick it up from there sometime in February. However my step-dad still must pay in some form, or at least we are trying to get him to. My uncle has called my other uncles and aunts (with my permission) to basically vent about the situation.
So majority of my mom side who all live in GA knows about what happened. I woke up to a lot of text about the situation given sympathy, as well as money to have for prom which have totalled to about $300. So this is great. My mom has also contacted my step-in-laws who then spread the news with pictures and I guess most of them are shocked as well other than his mother his is buying his claim that it’s just a dress and it was a accident despite evidence. I got a call from my step-dad sister sympathising for me.
And through conversations with I learned that my step-dad has also been asking a lot of his family to help him with his finances. Because for some reason the dude has bought so many things to pay off he can’t keep up with them.
My mom called my step-dad for answers which we recorded. And he’s basically trying to blame her bc if she didn’t piss him off last night then he wouldn’t have done it. And that he was trying to show me why I shouldn’t be irresponsible with money bc I guess he planned to lecture afterwards.
Also my mom has broken up with him bc he blamed her for caring more about me than him, which is weird. Which ensured in a argument with her saying “you think i care about her more than you, your gonna see just how much I do”
Also they’ve been on a rocky relationship since he can’t manage money and this was her breaking point.

Just saw this update!! Now that you have the text, please show the police as confession as destruction of property and/or take him to court to pay for it. It’s not fair to your uncle. Once you get your step dad to pay up, you can pay your uncle back. Girl Good luck!

sherbear97124
What your step-dad did is called malicious mischief and is a crime. With the confessions and proof, there probably is a case. Just know that because of the monetary value, it's most likely just a misdemeanor charge. Regardless, you definitely have a small claims case against him. Sadly, by the sounds of his financial affairs, you'll be lucky if he ever pays, but it's still worth pursuing. Good luck!

Update - same day later

Edit/Update 6: Sorry to post on here Reddit keep telling me to try again later so sorry again
Okay so a lot of bs has transpired. Firstly we’ve place an order for my dress, and they are shipping it now and it should be at the boutique by Feb 23 so all that is taken care of. My SD and mom are officially broken up and my mom said she doesn’t now if she’ll move on with divorce proceedings yet bc everything is still fresh and lawyer are expensive and she can’t afford it rn.
Also they have a prenup so they don’t share assent and the house is my mother dad house she inherited (she had a different dad than all her siblings and all her siblings share a dad).
So my step father showed back up with his brother after a while and my step father decided to do and buy me a new dress from Macy that looks similar to dress in color and length but it’s very tacky and ugly. And look nothing like the original.
He then tried to apologise and said it wasn’t his intention to ruin the dress. he said that he was simply gonna wash it and say “see this is why you don’t buy things like this” and then he would’ve bought me another dress…. But that’s make absolutely no sense.
Also my uncle came back to my house after I texted him my step dad came back (he was at the store) and they got into a big argument where basically my uncle demanded to know why he destroyed the dress
And my step dad said he not gonna walk up in his house demanding shit, and my uncle called him a bitch. And then my SD said to call him a bitch again which he did and they ended up fighting. (My SD lost) he threatened to call the cops but we reminded him that he swung first
After that my step dad went on a tirade and cussed us out and left and took the dress with him.
We are actually planning on taking y’all advice and taking him to small claims court given the evidence and the damage. And hopefully we win. Also my SD is staying at his parents house currently.
Lastly for all curious about my brothers they are 15 (half) and 18 (step) .The 15 was at his girlfriend house since Friday so he wasn’t home for any of the commotion but did reach out to me today, I love him so much. And the 18 year basically sided with his dad so that all there is to say.
Also those who suggested changing the streaming’s passwords I have change them. And me and my mom are gonna get me my own bank account later today. Thank you guys for all the support I’ll continue to update as thing come and our plans of action and the verdict and all

2024.05.15 06:59 AssociationDismal988 Programming Path (The journey of the lost one)

My Life's Journey: Overcoming Challenges

Introduction

My whole life, I've been rejected. People don't see my potential. I've wasted a lot of time in my life. Currently, I have only 40 euros in my bank account. This is one of my darkest moments. Please don't pity me. It's not the fault of others; it's my fault. I make poor decisions every day, and now I am facing the consequences. Sitting in the dark, isolated, without money, I don't enjoy life. But what I have are books and education. Last week, I had only 10 euros in my account. I felt stressed all over my body; I was spending the last 10 euros in the supermarket on basic needs. Not having enough money is horrible, but it is not the end.

Books and Education

Some books about money and teaching yourself to disconnect from everything have helped me enormously. I've learned that stress is an illusion of fear and uncertainty. I've taught myself to be unattached from many things. Consider this: if you love your mother too much, the blow of her death will be too much, making you never function again. So, love your mother, father, etc., but not too much. Do fun things with them, but remember, the circle of life means it comes and goes. Similarly, with money—when I had only 10 euros, I was stressed. I have no job now and am isolated. I've learned that money is an illusion and that you make your own choices to the point where you've ended up. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the same chances in the world.

Life's Unfairness and Moving Forward

That's why I live with the idea that life is unfair, but you can make it a little better. Because every improvement, no matter where you come from, is what everyone wants. Some people are born in countries where opportunities are plentiful; others are not. But ultimately, we must not sit still; acceptance and progress will help you move forward.

My Resolution

I don't need pity; I am a victim of my own choices. The monster inside me has destroyed me as a hopeless, pitiful person. My posture is bad, my bank account is low, and yet, despite all the negatives, a few books and a goal have shown me the light. I am going to take you on a journey of someone who is down but understands that there are many people who are even lower and in war.

My Goal and Challenge

Although I currently don't have money for a gym or luxury courses, I have done some things smartly. I can only tell you, always think 360 degrees. Don't look for one teacher but two. My goal is to become a full-stack programmer and to be a fit human being with good posture—no nerd neck, forward shoulder or hunchback—and of course, healthy food, brain food, gut food, hydration, and muscles. I want to challenge myself and show the world that on this day, May 15th, 2024, this pitiful man who has made many wrong decisions will transform into a beacon of light and perseverance. I am going to show you that an outcast can achieve this. You only live once, and time comes only once. There is only one May 15th, 2024, 6 AM, and once the minute passes, we cannot go back.

Programming Path and Financial Discipline

Now that I am poor, I keep a detailed Excel sheet that monitors my finances and a visual dashboard of my financial life, which currently looks red and very bleak.

Detailed Plan:

  1. **Starting Point:** I managed to get the GitHub Student Pack. Being poor has made me creative. I have found some courses through various means. My path focuses first on HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  2. **Initial Learning:** I recommend taking notes during lessons, either on pen and paper or a digital tablet. Writing helps you remember more than not doing so.
**The Path:**
  1. Begin with Scrimba.com (From GitHub student, you get 1 month free; because I am poor, I must complete HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in that month, meaning full attention and free days as time is limited in this case).
2 Move on to Advanced CSS by Jonas Schedtmann on Udemy.
3 Then, I will start all over again with Angela Yu's Udemy bootcamp. She explains well and comes from a non-IT technical background, which provides a good perspective.
4.After Angela, I will go to Colt Steele to learn good concepts again and some different tips and tricks.
  1. After Colt Steele, I will go to FrontEndMasters to learn all the professional tips and tricks from people who have actually worked in the industry. I will start with FrontEndMasters last because it is very technical and not really an educational experience. FrontEndMasters is ideal last to professionalize any trained knowledge and possibly unlearn incorrect methods. You get 6 months free with the GitHub Student Pack.
6.After FrontEndMasters, it's time to earn money as a freelancer.
  1. When I have some money, I will access more expensive courses.
  2. I plan to start with [Josh W Comeau's courses](https://www.joshwcomeau.com/courses/) to elevate my CSS skills to a higher level.
  3. Then, I will improve my JavaScript skills with the [Ultimate Next.js course on JS Mastery](https://www.jsmastery.pro/ultimate-next-course#pricing). Learning from multiple perspectives is essential to truly understand and master a subject.
10.. Follow up with [Kevin Powell's courses](https://www.kevinpowell.co/courses/) to further enhance my CSS skills.
  1. Utilize [Frontend Mentor Pro](https://www.frontendmentor.io/pro) for extensive practice through assignments and exercises.
  2. My ongoing task will be to continue practicing, working on projects, and staying up-to-date with the industry.
This Path is not fixed, because there can be along the way changes, but in general I keep to stay on this Path. Ofcourse after this path is time for the Object Programming, Software developer Path. So then I will search to Computer Science. I'm not an academic, but I am a academic of poorness and of life:)

The Five Fundamental Needs:

  1. **Physical Well-being** (Nutrition, Sleep, Hygiene & Nature)
  2. **Social Connection** (Relationships, Neutrality, Acceptance, Openness, Collaboration, Freedom, Love, Solutions, Empathy & Communication)
  3. **Physical Activity** (Exercise, Cardio, Strength Training, Yoga, Flexibility, Self-defense, Team Sports, Balance & Stability)
  4. **Mental Enrichment** (Education, Philosophy, Religion, Purpose, Spirituality, Creativity & Problem-Solving Thinking)
  5. **Emotional Well-being** (Happiness, Enjoyment, Letting Go, Grief, Meditation, Relaxation, Self-care, Emotional Intelligence & Self-acceptance)

Financial Discipline and Personal Development

Besides programming, I will practice financial discipline by maintaining an extensive Excel sheet to monitor my finances closely. This will help me manage my funds better and avoid previous mistakes. Additionally, I will work on being physically fit, developing strong muscles, and improving my posture and sleep 7–9 hours. If you want to achieve life and things better you need to master 5 basic of life
Your plan seems well-structured to avoid the common pitfalls of "tutorial hell." By moving from basic concepts to more advanced applications and integrating different learning platforms and instructors, you're setting yourself up for a comprehensive learning experience. Here's why your plan is likely effective:
  1. **Variety of Learning Sources**: You’re planning to use multiple resources (Scrimba, Udemy, FrontEndMasters, etc.), which helps prevent the tunnel vision that can occur when relying on just one type of tutorial or instructor.
  2. **Incremental Complexity**: Your plan builds complexity gradually. Starting with basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and moving up to more advanced topics allows you to solidify foundational knowledge before tackling harder concepts.
  3. **Practical Application**: By planning to work as a freelancer and tackle real-world projects, you ensure that you're applying what you learn in practical, tangible ways. This application of knowledge helps solidify learning and develop practical skills.
  4. **Reflection and Adaptation**: You’ve outlined a path that includes revisiting concepts with different teachers, which can provide new perspectives and reinforce learning. This is crucial for understanding subjects deeply and from multiple viewpoints.
  5. **Continuous Improvement**: Your approach includes ongoing learning even after formal courses, suggesting that you plan to stay updated and continuously improve, which is vital in the fast-evolving field of technology.
By focusing on a mixture of learning, applying, and revisiting concepts with varied resources and real-world practice, your plan strategically avoids the stagnation associated with "tutorial hell." It promotes active learning and continual growth, which are key to mastering software development.
There can always be a tutorial hell indeed I'm aware.

Conclusion ( I give update every 2 months)

You can react, positive and negative that is good balance is good. But I don't want to have my energy in discussions. As I beginner is important to start and don't focus on what other say. I have my teachers team now, and I will let you know, because I believe in balance, if it was a tutorial hell, or have critize on my own plan. So for now I'm offline and will visit this in 60 days.
I believe this path, with its varied teachers and multiple perspectives, will provide a well-rounded education. Each instructor brings something unique, and at Frontend Masters, I'll have a team of instructors who help me view things from a comprehensive 360-degree perspective. This approach not only applies to programming but also to managing my finances and personal health. I will make these areas a priority, ensuring I not only become a skilled programmer but also lead a balanced and healthy life.Remember, you only have one life, one time, to decide what you want. I've worked customer support roles, I've been a cleaner, I've been a demolisher. Some people enjoy this work, others do not. This has shown me that I no longer want to do work that fits my identity, that I don't want to work 8 hours a day on something and have my life go out like a night candle. The power is that you can choose, you just need courage and steadfastness. Because there are millions of people who enjoy their jobs, as opposed to billions who are stuck in the drudgery of life. Ask yourself, do I want to keep doing things that don't suit me? Go for your goals, learn from misery, don't end up thinking you can't do it. Because when we are dead, we don't know if we come back, or if God gives us heaven or hell, or if it is completely dark. Think about that, that you will close your eyes and have lived your life through your own shortcomings because you sit defeated.

2024.05.15 06:47 coach_saab Syllabus completion guide for droppers and 12thies

I am hereby reposting a few words written by our valuable member, some of you might know him with the name IamGOTA or scrotum_sucker.
He cleared NEET in his very first attempt, his syllabus completion and tests taking plan was one of the best in my opinion, so all the 25 and 26tards, hear him out and take some notes.
If someone is gonna drop for 2025 and prepare from Do this. 1.Use a laptop or PC 2.Get a pendrive 3.Download all lectures from telegram 4.Make folders in this sequence Subject wise →Chapterwise→2 sections for dpp and lectures Eg:- Physics →U &D →Lecture.1
Don't use internet. Purely waste of time hoga. Buying batches like yakeen and completely following it wont be useful. Syllabus bhot late khatam karte hai vo (I have the perfect sequence and timetable to complete syllabus till November ) Rather take things in your hands watch 4 lectures daily at 1.5X each of PCMB.
Join a good offline test series Both allen and aakash are good but part tests of aakash are better and full syllabus of Allen are better Reason:- Allen test have 50-50 weightage for both 11th and 12th so ek saath dono padhna hoga in part tests.
Target batch use Karo very beneficial.
Make short notes and use good quality paper.
I didn't watched a single oneshot after completing syllabus purely relied on notes and shortnotes.
I have wasted a lot of my time on irrelevant books like DCP,Cengage,HCV, 3 coaching module, MS chauhan, VK jaiswal, N awasthi, Dr. Ali, Fingertips etc. last 6-8 months me sirf Pyq, dpp, dpyq and main pyq practice kiye hai.
Your MEDIOCRITY can be boosted if you give fcukton of tests. I myself have given 200+ test in last 2 years with 56 Full syllabus tests.
Focus on completing syllabus till November and start 1 fst per week then once March hits increase it to 2.
(Ignore the grammatical errors)

2024.05.15 06:47 ObjectivePeak8372 I can't see my BF in the same way after what he admitted to me

My (33F) BF (34M), and I have been together for over 12 years now. I first met him in high school and we were friends for a few years. We lost touch after he graduated, but ended up reconnecting when I was in college. We've been together since.
About 7 years ago, we were at a crossroads. His friend had passed away suddenly in an accident and he proceeded to spiral, he started trying drugs, staying out all night, engaging in very reckless behavior and it truly scared me. I tried everything to pull him out of it. It took a lot of work, and me almost leaving for him to start putting his life back together.
A little backstory. I work for my family's business. I have worked for the family business since I was 18 years old, and honestly, it would be great if I didn't have to work with the same people I see on the holidays. My family can be, in a word, toxic. There is a lot of infighting and drama. Working with them is similar to our personal lives, stressful and chaotic. When my grandmother passed away about 3 years ago, I was willed some liquid assets that had belonged to her and my grandfather (gems, jewelry, precious metals, cash etc) and their house they had had since the 60's. And honestly this was a blessing, with that inheritance I finally felt like I could pull free from my family and get out of the family business and take time to go back to school and do something I was passionate about. However, I had no savings at the time, and wanted to get a decent amount saved before I quit. At this time an opportunity opened up at work, the pay was way higher, but required 4-7 months of travel time a year. I talked it over with my BF and we decided that we only needed 2 years to save up what we needed. I took the job and prepared to leave for 2 months for training at the main branch.
About a month into my training, my BF suddenly quit his job, with no explanation other than "I had to, I can't work there anymore". I was concerned about our financial goals because of this, but he swore up and down that he would get a new one shortly and that he wouldn't need any help with his personal bills. Well a year went by and he had only taken up gig work and temp jobs. I wasn't happy as I was having to travel all the time and was having to be really frugal in order to get all our joint bills paid while also putting money into savings. He was managing to pay his own bills, so I let it slide since he tossed in what he could to the joint pile as well. Now I'm sitting here, about to complete my two years and my BF has decided to come clean to me.
For the past two years, while I have been working a job that has been soul crushing, and has had me away from home for weeks to months at a time. I've missed birthdays, weddings, friends baby showers, etc. I've sacrificed the last 2 years of my life to make enough to be able to live my life the way I want to. And he tells me last week that he has been paying his personal bills by selling the things my grandparents had willed me that I had left in a safe that was hidden in the house. A safe he only had access to because the hunting rifle is in there, and I thought, y'know he wouldn't do that to me.
I'm honestly in shock. It was a substantial amount and it makes me nauseous to even try to quantify it right now. I've already set in motion quitting my job and have given notice. And now I have so much less than I thought I did. He only told me because he had figured a way to pay me back and had gotten a stable job and was planning on using most of his paycheck to give to me until I was made whole. But this, just honestly disgusts me. I feel so violated. More than that, I wonder if this his go to pattern now. Life is stressful, a lot of change is happening, and he just self destructs?
After what he put me through 7 years ago, I don't know if I can look past this. Yes, he came clean to me, but I just can't seem to get past this feeling. I look at him and just feel nothing right now. It's breaking my heart because I really care for him, and yet I just can't see anything changing. I feel so conflicted, we have been together so long and even have all the same friends and share a life together. Will we be able to come back from this? Or, is this what falling out of love feels like?
TL;DR! - My BF confessed to me that he used part of my inheritance to pay his personal debts while I was away traveling for work to save up enough money to leave my toxic family. I have a whole life built with him and I am conflicted on what to do, but I feel so empty when I look at him. Is this what falling out of love feels like? Can we come back from it?
