2024.05.21 22:20 Dangerous-Plant3757 what kind of schools should i look at?

hi everybody! like most current juniors i am starting the college search/list building and was looking for some guidance on what sort of schools i should be looking at! i want to ideally major in pre-pharmacy/physiology
here is my demographics and stats:
demographics: - white female - MA resident, dual-citizen - medium/high income, immigrant family - small, mid-ranked private school
stats: - 3.88 UW/4.7 W - 1380 sat (will retake in august) - top 5 in class of ~50 - full IB diploma candidate (HL maths, biology, english. SL economics, french, world religions) - 2 years of student government—> my role was/is facilitating communication between administration and the student body and running the school’s instagram - 3 years of being a school admissions ambassador—> toured prospective students and families, helped run events such as open houses etc. - 3 years worked as a gymnastics coach for children between the age of 6-12 (used to be nationally ranked gymnast but quit 3 years ago, but received many awards for achievement and sportsmanship) - 3 years of varsity basketball, one as captain - 1 year worked at starbucks - (hopefully) will work over the summeschool year as a pharmacy technician in a local pharmacy - around 100 hours of volunteer hours between various organizations - organized a fundraiser (raised 1k so far) for helping low-income individuals pay the co-pays for prescription medications
and a few other random clubs/insignificant ecs (im aware my ecs are somewhat lacking for top tier universities)
also worth noting that i will have very strong rec letters from bio and english teachers!
thank you!!

2024.05.20 23:43 SansIdee_pseudo Why do so many male gymnasts can do l-grip giants and piked stalder elements but very few female gymansts can do it?

I know that the uneven bars are thicker than the men's high bar. I also wonder if female gymnasts, because they have to do leaps and jumps, focus more on hip flexibility, but male gymnasts, because they have to do rings and p-bars and high bar, end up working more on shoulder flexibility. I've seen a video of Ian Gunther struggling to do a split leap and that's what makes me think that.
MAG is more balanced in a way because 3 events require rely on upper body strenght, whereas with WAG, only one event really relies on upper body strenght (uneven bars).

2024.05.20 13:25 Purplelemons17 Making a trip to see Gold Over America tour - worth it?

I want to take my daughter (8). We live in Canada so the closest cities would be in the Philly, Chicago, Boston area. If I take her, it would involve a flight and 2 nights hotel. And if I’m making the trip, will be getting front row tickets. So it will add up. Thoughts? Reasons I want to take her: - She’s just getting into competitive gymnastics and I would love for her to see some of the best. - She is very small for her age and kids make negative comments to her about it. I have of course talked to her and told her some of the best athletes are small too but having her see some female athletes in person may be motivating to her. Thoughts?

2024.05.19 10:44 Maya-VC Need to say this out loud: The Alchemy is NOT about Travis Kelce

This song is the song where I have the most issue with when it comes to the fans' interpretation of it. Their biggest argument for this is the football references, but they fail to consider that the football metaphors were just a way for Taylor Swift to draw parallels between the (American) football world and her situation.
In this analysis, I'll be doing a line-by-line breakdown of why this is not a Travis Kelce song, but is instead a song that she wrote where she is directly addressing her fans, much like how "But Daddy I Love Him", and "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me" were written.
Here it goes. Please bear with me!
This happens once every few lifetimes
These chemicals hit me like white wine
What if I told you I'm back?
The hospital was a drag / Worst sleep that I ever had
I circled you on a map
I haven't come around in so long / But I'm coming back so strong
So when I touch down / Call the amateurs and / Cut 'em from the team / Ditch the clowns, get the crown / Baby I'm the one to beat
Cause the sign on your heart / Said it's still reserved for me
Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?
Hey you, what if I told you we're cool? / That child's play back in school / Is forgiven under my rule
Now, let's move on to the bridge!
Shirts off, and your friends lift you up over their heads / Beer sticking to the floor / Cheers chanted, cause they said
There was no chance, trying to be / The greatest in the league / Where's the trophy? / He just comes running over to me
These blokes warm the benches / We been on a winning streak
He jokes that it's heroin but this time with an "E" / Cause the sign on your heart said it's still reserved for me
and finally, this line....

Addressing the (American) football references in this song:

As mentioned before, the football references in this song are simply metaphors to help illustrate the themes of competition, triumph, and teamwork.
TLDR: If you switched the "you" in this song to reference "the fans", this song will make complete sense. Now, try giving this song a listen, and think of "you" as "yourself" (the fans).
Taylor Swift's song "The Alchemy," is basically a powerful ode to her fans, chronicling her journey through public scrutiny and her triumphant return to the music industry. It draws parallels to her tumultuous period following the "snake gate" incident with Kim Kardashian and her subsequent hiatus before the release of "Reputation," the lyrics reflect a narrative of resilience, redemption, and the unwavering bond between Swift and her fans.
Once you are able to interpret "you" as "the fans", you'll be able to see, without having to do too much mental gymnastics, that the song is about the transformative and enduring connection Swift shares with her loyal supporters.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading. Sorry for any typos or grammatical errors - but I hope I helped you made sense of the song!

2024.05.18 19:25 Davido400 Sex education in school for girls

I've wrestled for about 2 months with posting/asking this, A: cause am a guy and B: my 10 year old Niece is a total lunatic! Anyways, storytime:
Was sitting in my Sisters house doing the Uncle babysitting duties, ive got disabled Scottish guy, and one of my duties on a Thursday is to make sure my 2 nieces(10 and 4) get ready for Gymnastics so that when my sister has finished work it's a simple job for her to just walk downstairs(she's WFH) and throw us all in her car, run me home(on the way to Gymnastics) and off they go. I digress, anyways so I'm sitting watching telly as the two girls are upstairs supposed to be getting ready, all I have to really do is shout up to make sure they've showered themselves they are pretty independent and able to do all the icky girl stuff they need to do, but the 10 year old came downstairs that night, my sister was sitting on her phone next to me, and I just innocently asked: are you showered and ready?
She gave me a withering look that only a child could give to an adult and then grinned and said "well, I've washed my hair, my body and my vulva" now, am a man of the world, am hitting 40 this year, ave not had a religious nutter education but that made me pause and have a face like a gutted fish, I stuttered like a moron for like 2 seconds(which was clearly the little witches reason for saying it that way) then I asked her where she learned that? And she apparently got it from School Sex Ed. I knew they got all that quite early because when she was in Primary 1 or 2(Grade 1 and 2 for my American Cousins, I think) her wee pal next to her coloured a diagram/picture of a penis blue and she asked her "do you think that's appropriate?"
Anyways, I didn't realise they learned all this stuff in school these days and I'm happy with it, even if the wee witch weaponises her knowledge against me haha, and was wondering if you women got anything similar or just like mine which was a "a woman has a vagina and boys have a little bit more called a urethra"(it was genuinely a sentence like that) followed by an educational video which was just a missionary position porn lol, this is bringing up mad memories of what I remember. Anyways, it's almost half past 6pm and I'm gonna be a good wee Scotsman and get absolutely blootered(drunk) if this isn't allowed feel free to delete it.
Oh and the reason I've put this in a female sub rather than a unisex is cause it involves my two little psycho nieces and cause am a guy I feel it's a bit pointless asking fellow guys!
Have a good day/night/afternoon and remember and line your stomach when you drink!

2024.05.18 17:11 Weirderthanweird69 Noah and Dave in Toronto (Skave fanfic)

33 year old Noah: Younger cousin, welcome back to reality! I was wondering where you were, unfortunate it took me 12 years.
29 year old Dave: I am grateful I have been saved. It feels like life is still 2011.
Noah: Hahaha, it's 2024?
Dave: WHAT. Do we have flying cars?
Noah: Well, no. We didn't have enough time due to a pandemic.
Dave: Pandemic? What?
Noah: Oh. You don't need to know.
*Noah sees Skye wearing a beanie, hoodie and jeans.*
Noah: What is Ezekiel doing here? I thought I cured him and sent him to be a UN translator so his only strength is useful.
Dave: That's not Ezekiel, that's Skye.
Skye: Hi Dave! How's it been after 13 years?
Dave: I don't think we should talk. I went crazy obsessed over you and tried to kill you.
Noah: I know a guy who also felt similar. He got booted first in Total Drama Action.
Dave: Total Drama? My parents banned me from watching that.
Noah: Oh yeah. Lemme take you to him.
*Noah takes Dave to Trenton's 9 Bikes, Skye follows them sneakily*
33 year old Geoff at the cashier: Hey Noah? Who's that?
Noah: Dave. He reminded me of a friend. Wanted to talk to that friend. How's the family going?
Geoff: I sent Emma to Total Drama 2023, Bridgette is still mad at me for it, but she hates Emma's boyfriend more.
Noah: Where is Trent?
Geoff: In the back oiling a bike
Noah: Ok
*Skye enters Trenton's 9 Bikes*
Geoff: Hi Ezekiel, congrats on coming out as trans.
Skye: I'm Skye, Dave's ex. Only came since I wanted to apologize to him for being mean to him 13 years ago in Total Drama.
Geoff: Reminds me of myself and Bri. The only reason why I thought you were Ezekiel is because your green clothes remind me of him. Lucky guy turned his way around and became a UN translator.
Skye: Have a good hiding spot so I can overhear Trenton's conversations with Dave?
Geoff: The boxes over there!
*Flash to the scene where Noah and Dave see Trent*
Trent: Dude, it's a weekend, bike store closed for maintenance. But Noah, I know you aren't here for bikes. What do you want man?
Noah: My younger cousin here had a similar experience with you, about going crazy over a girl not wanting him.
*Skye from the boxes gasps and lets out a tear, immediately cleans it*
Dave: I dunno man, it kinda sucks to think about. Halfway through Pahkitew Island, I was obsessing over Skye and she got mad at me. I then got myself voted off since I couldn't take it no more. Then Chris brung me back for drama reasons. Honestly, I don't even know if Skye liked me. Should've stuck with Ella.
*Skye gasp 2. There will be 5 gasps*
Trent: You do not wanna be with Gwen's cousin. Anyways, I was obsessed with Gwen, thinking she would like Duncan. It's unfortunate Gwen enever knew why I obsessed with the number 9, but Duncan made it worse than normal. I dislike Gwen nowadays. Dave you should avoid Skye too. Turn things around.
*Skye gasp 3. She gets so much surprises in overhearing this conversation*
Dave: I have been isolated on a robot island for 13 years, somehow emergency service didn't come.
Noah: Dave looked like a male version of Izzy.
Trent: Dave, we both are heartbroken men. But did you know Duncan also didn't end up with Gwen?
Noah: Duncan got out of the punk phase and got pressured by his parents to be a cop?
Trent: He said he will be a cop, only to arrest Chris for a lifetime amount. He said he had to deal with a guy named Ripper. Ugh.
Noah: I can call him right now.
Trent: Dude, don't.
Noah: Anyways, what happened to Gwen?
Trent: Gwen became an artist at Quebec. 2 of her artwork is in the Louvre. Funny enough, she makes 6 figures from 2 pieces of art.
Noah: Dave, is Skye also high achieving?
Dave: Skye did say before she is an olympic gymnast. She probably has a 2016 olympics medal. I will cheer her in the 2024 olympics even though I don't really like her.
*Skye gasp 4. She pulls the medal from her hoodie*
Noah: Dave, will you ever marry?
Dave: No
Geoff: Who knows CPR? Unresponsive female body in the boxes!
*Noah, Dave, Trent, and Geoff all see Skye unconscious*
Dave: I will try CPR. Noah call 911.
Noah: Ok
*Dave does 30 chest compressions. Looks sad at Trent knowing he will have to do mouth to mouth*
Trent: Just do it bro.
*Dave fills Skye with air, somehow it turns to them making out*
Beth: CPR Doctor on her way! Ooh, people making out.
Skye: Dave, I wanted to say I am sorry for being abusive to you during Total Drama.
Dave: Skye, I am sorry for trying to kill you. I think I want to split paths.
Skye: I don't wanna split paths. I wanna date my no. 1 cheerleader!
*Skye hugs Dave*
Dave: Trent, did this happen with Gwen?
Trent: No. I'd say go date her. It's worth it.
Beth: Wait Ezekiel became trans and is now Skye?
Geoff: Different people Beth.
Beth: Ok.

2024.05.18 06:13 fekuadmi 25F dumped 28M LDR how much time did you take before dating again.

Tldr: my 25F broke up with 28m (me) . How much did you tske before you start dating again.
How much time to start dating again?
I live in US currently pursuing masters. I am 28M. I was in a relationship for an year with 25F female colleague. I loved her soo much. I think she loved me too. We planned on getting married. She was so invested that she planned to buy rings before me moving out to US for my studies. But they got delivered late so we couldnt exchange.
I put lot of efforts in maintaining our relationship like ordering food when she was down , sending gifts frequently as she was missing me and feeling lonely. One fine day after probably 2 months she told she wants a break. I asked her to reconsider and lets try for some more time. I booked my tickets to India to meet her and sort things out. But all my efforts went in vain. The “wanting a breeak “ started in oct start i came to india in dec. she broke up with me in feb . So we had this conversation for around 6 months. I think i broke down crying everyday. She called me booking tickets as manipulative i booked tickets as i was down and meeting family and her would make me feel better. Even if she dumped me in india i would have processed it better with family support. I told her the primary reason as i wanted to meet my family. But we both knew it was for us. But she called me manipulative as i booked tickets to meet her in name of family.
She developed feelings for someone from her college who she went out with regularly. I was v uncomfortable as that guy confessed feelings for her. I have communicated that to her. She intially cut off communication with him but later again she started talking to me. She even questioned my authority over her to ask her to cut friendship. I just apologized and merely told her that i was uncomfortable. She clearly mentioned that me coming meeting her in India wouldnt change anything. But when i met her i felt loved although not to previous extent.
I came back and after coming back to US she broke up with me over text. She is very emotional and kind in general. But she was v mean and rude during breakup. I was just paranoid and asked her to block me everywhere as it will help me to move on quickly. She met one of my best friend after breakup as we all work in same office. She told him about breakup i dindny mention to anyone that we brokeup. She told him that she feels that she deserves better. Later when I confronted her regarding her disrespect she apologised and told me she was not in mind when she spoke out and she didn’t mean it. I donno i feel like i pushed her away with my confrontation.
I pushed her to tell me the reasons she intially told i was a perfect bf no one ever made her feel so loved. I pushed her soo much to give me few reasons and asked her to hurt me so that it would make it better for me to move on.
She gave me 2 reasons one is ( obv distance)
  1. I am overweight ( i told i would definitely loose weight but need some time from start of relationship) i donno why she suddenly realized that . I have to agree i am insecure about my looks she is so gorgeous and has so much male attention.
  2. She got feelings for that guy.
Both of these shartered me a lot. It is still hurt ful that she dumped me over text. She dosent like textinb and always did communication on call with me . I felt worthless.
I begged for 1 month and 2 months of NC and total 3 months till breakup. I am still having anxiety due to breakup. I helped her with her college applications to come to US . Her sister told her that she deserves someone better once she has show n my photo. And gave her advise to wait and see , to take break for sometime. She told she defended me saying i am a green forest.
I donno if i should wait till she comes to US as she got into a great univ. I also study in one of top univ. But we live in same TZ. I am just performing mental gymnastics to create a delusion that she still Loves me it was v hard for an emotional person like her to do ldr. She is just took her sisters advice regaridng break.
I love her s soo much. I want to wait for her loose weight be ready for her when she is here. But at same time the realist in me says she is never coming back don’t cry and move on find someone and love them even more. I am unable to look at other women even if I find then attractive and charming .
I am an dreamy romantic guy who believes in love.
My question is when did you realize you fell out of love and started dating?

2024.05.16 00:00 Careless_Wonderingz Found out my IUD moved + i have cysts in my ovaries and i have no one will similar experiences

ABOVE ALL IM SEEING DOCTORS RN!! just looking for similar experiences:( and PLEASE dont fear monger, i just want to feel like im not crazy for how im feeling
TLDR: this week my ovaries and uterus felt weird? mainly my right ovary, feels like a bar is being pressed against my ovary (idk how else to describe it other than what it feels like to press your hips against a gymnastics bar when youre doing those flips on them?) and i found out my IUD moved and my right ovary at least has a 5cm cyst. they couldnt get a view of the left ovary. i also just feel exhausted most of the time and crappy. i cannot explain the feeling other than it washes over me completely.
main questions are; should i avoid certain things? silly problem but my 21st bday is coming up and i was gonna drink with friends, is that going to be something thatll cause a cyst to be irritated (in any other persons personal experience?) + i also smoke weed/disposables pretty regularly and wonder if that also has effects (probably does bc life is just peachy that way)
More Details: In january of this year i had a termination of pregnancy and an IUD put in. For a while it was okay, definitely had to get used to it but its also a foreign object inside of you changing your hormones so..i can understand that. Before I had an IUD i had very heavy periods up until 17 (im trans ftmtnb & was on t for 3 years but had to stop bc of other personal complications + testosterone just wasnt helping) and then my uterus ‘went to sleep’ for 3 years and then came back. it came back ANGRIER. i would be doubled over in pain and wincing and over are struggling during my period. but i knew my body well enough at this point to know besides it being annoying it was what usually happened before. i also know when id get my period bc 3 days before id FEEL it, y’know? like cramps. Now that i have my IUD, my period is irregular and at first was less painful (i have mirena(?) and im well aware that it can cause irregular periods or stop it completely over time) but this past week i have been able to realize how things have changed a lot. i work most days so i never have the time to sit there and feel it how i feel but ive realized by my pelvic where my ovaries should be it feels so uncomfortable and painful. i also dont have my period atm (legit just got brown discharge) and discharge way way different than before when i get it. i know IUDs can cause these things but i just feel so alone and unsure. im getting my IUD taken out next week, but if it gets worse i will probably push them to have it done sooner. thats kinda it tbh. im just scared. ive been sobbing a lot and feeling anxious every time i feel uncomfortable because im so scared its gonna burst and ill be in agony. i hear stories about women/females going in for these issues and never being taken seriously or everyone never knowing. i dont wanna celebrate my 21st birthday and end up on the floor crying in pain (and ik its probably dramatic but im just very scared. i hear how awful its been for others)

2024.05.15 04:28 NinteMandatharam Finally watch Heeramandi and…omg the potential.

Finally watch Heeramandi and…omg the potential.
So after doing some mental gymnastics, I convinced myself that I should give this very spoken about show a go. It had all the extravagance of a SLB creation. The acting of Manisha Koirala was truly amazing, Sonakshi, Aditi and Richa killed it! Every female artist barring one were great.
Now coming the romance, I started developing a crush on Taha Shah (this hottie deserves more movies/shows, i don’t think I’ve ever seen a man pull of a moustache as well as he did). He can clearly act and his eyes are very emotive.
Story was actually somewhat good, I enjoyed it although it was a bit laggy.
Now coming to the elephant in the room. Sharmin sigh, honestly I went in thinking she will be atrociously terrible because of all the posts I’ve read here but she was just a simple terrible, so that’s good I guess? I’m a bit of an actress (lmao) myself and done classes and the first thing they teach us is acting is mainly done with your cheeks, eyes and eyebrows. This is one of the reason, I’m really not fond of actors doing too much Botox/plastic surgery etc. your face is literally what emotes and does your job. Sharmin’s eyes were blank (no thoughts, head empty wala blank) and I don’t know why that is? Your eyebrows don’t necessarily have to move for your eyes to emote so that can’t be it. Whether she’s crying, laughing, thinking, loving it’s all the same blankness. Honestly that’s a talent itself. She looks like she’s meditating and somewhere else entirely.
Watching her act was like watching a very human like robot try to emote like a human. I know that it’s harsh but that’s my opinion on her acting in this, maybe one day she will completely surprise me by being wonderful and I’m sure she’s talented at something, but right now…acting isn’t it.
It’s just saddening to know that her character had so much potential if it was done by a talented actor. The instagram reel edits of Nawab Tajdar and Alamzeb would have been everywhere…
Imagine someone who had an innocent, pretty look (not saying Sharmin ain’t pretty, she just doesn’t look very sweet I guess) with abundance of talent played that role. The show would’ve been received so much better I think.
I’m sorry Sharmin, I’m damn sure that you’re laughing at our bank accounts when we are all busy criticising you 🥹🙏🏽 but I do hope you see this as a critique of your work and not you as a person.

2024.05.14 05:04 P0rrpl3 How can I make cheer tryouts?

Needed Tips I am 14 female soon to be freshman. I have only did Dance one semester in my 8th grade year, gymnastics while i was 6 and dance at 5. I only know how to do a cart wheel into a round off and a front walkover. What are tips I can use to make the cheer team? I know I need to smile but what are something I should learn to guarantee I can make it.
Grades Another question is I have two B’s two C’s and two A’s, I had asked my teacher to recommend me at the time I have four C’s and she did on the application where it asked for recommendations from teachers and she even wrote it on pen, and now I have 2 B’s, so on the paper it says C’s which makes it worse. It will show 4 Cs and 2 A’s. am I doomed😓

2024.05.14 03:29 Ajarofpickles97 The inverted morality of modern protagonists

This is a startling phenomenon I have noticed as of late with all modern Hollywood products. For whatever reason Disney/Hollywood keeps trying to push blatantly evil character and try to gaslight us into thinking they are good. This never works but the fact they are trying to do it at all is both confusing and disturbing. Here are a few examples of what I mean
Galadriel from Rings of Power I cannot stand this women she is an entitled narcacistic prick who doesn’t give a damn about her men. When one of her guys had fallen in a snow storm and it was brought to her attention she said “no we keep moving!” She is also a genocidal war monger who wants to murder the orcs because they exist and is rather racist too. Like when she said “there is a tempest in me and it will not be quelled by you regent!” To a freaking queen! The rings of power was painful to watch and the protag was an entitled POS. But of course she never gets called out on her crap because she is supposed to be the good guy right?
Next is Captain Marvel. This “hero” bullied and threatened to murder a guy because he used a bad pick up line that’s it. She literally said she was going to rip his hand off if he didn’t give her his bike. Shit dude at least the terminator asked first! And it says a lot when a literal Robot has more personality and manors than she dose. Plus she also committed Multiple genocides in the newest movie as per her own omission. Why are we supposed to root for this girl again? I shouldn’t want the protag to fail in their own movie Disney.
And then we have the female protag in Indian Jones and the dile of destiny. She is smug arrogant and entitled and somehow is better at adventuring than a guy who has been doing this his whole life. Ya know despite only being 30 or so. She is also friends with a pick pocketing piece of vermin with no redeemable qualities. She always acts with this BS sense if moral superiority despite the fact she has done nothing to deserve it. And she is a girl boss who can move better than a pro gymnast despite being built like a pool noodle
Even in movies like the Acolyte which hasn’t come out yet a protag said this amazing line. “This isn’t about good or evil it is about power.” Literally I can see daddy Palpie saying something like that not a freaking Jedi! Damn product has not even come out yet and I hate the Protag
Do you see what I mean? You can find more of them if you look for it but my point still stands these moral repugnant pieces of garbage are supposed to be our POV character and the person we root for. I was rooting for all of their downfall the whole time they were on screen. It really shows how wicked and awful modern Hollywood is. If THIS is supposed to be our hero’s what dose that say about the writers?

2024.05.14 02:11 Alternative-Hair-754 Birth Control

Note: I'm Catholic and struggling. I posted this to Catholicism and it was removed. Feeling lost about this whole issue.
I'd like to preface this post by saying that I'm a practicing Catholic who has been hurt by this teaching and is struggling to make any sense of it. This post is also geared towards women's experiences of Church doctrine. While men can empathize, they will never be able to fully understand the experience of women in relation to pregnancy. I'm not looking to debate here. This isn't made in bad faith:
As someone who is discerning the next steps in their life, I've been considering what a Catholic marriage might look like and if it's my calling. As it stands right now, a Catholic marriage sounds like a grueling death sentence for some women. My main issue has to do with the Church's stance on birth control and (after conversations with priests in my life) clergy's quiet understanding that teachings related to it aren't very sustainable.
I'm a woman and without getting into my personal life, have struggled with fear of pregnancy. For this reason, I've made the determination that staying on birth control is the healthiest option for me. The Catholic Church, however, would beg to differ. If I were to get married, my only options would be to go off the pill and stay celibate or adopt NFP and live my life in crippling fear. That being said, I'm not opposed to having one or two children if I can get better - I do know that I can't remain open to having children anytime I have sex. This isn't only a mental health concern, but related to my material means. I do not work a job that allows me paid parental leave and I have very few days off. I'd have to work through each and every pregnancy and leaving my job would mean not making enough money to provide for children.
Obviously, getting married is not for everyone, but Catholic marriages impose an unbelievable amount of restrictions on the life of the woman. I've read Humanae Vitae and it makes the weak case that outlawing birth control actually upholds the value of the woman. As a woman - I firmly disagree with this. The insistence on my openness to pregnancy makes me feel like a vessel for life, like some kind of livestock who's ultimate goal is to breed. Appeals to what is 'natural' have long been held as a fallacious form of argumentation and while a female animal's most 'natural' purpose is to reproduce, equating this to the life of a human woman is an altogether weak and degrading argument.
Further, allowing NFP but not condoms or birth control is obviously contradictory (and not in the good way like Christ's death on the cross). Every method of birth control allows for a chance that pregnancy might occur. If we are allowed to abstain from sex or use NFP, it follows that any method of birth control would be permissible. Is it really 'natural' to abstain from sex with your spouse?
I see this doctrine hurt, not only me, but women around me. Women who struggle with medical issues are forced to live celibately with their spouse or risk their life with a pregnancy. The inequality is staggering. We are expected to give up our lives for a dangerous pregnancy that we are given no alternatives (aside from abstinence and degrading our relationships with our spouses) to prevent. I feel exhausted as I try to follow the Church's mental gymnastics to justify this doctrine and feel ready to give up on either love itself or the Church.
This might not be the best place to share my thoughts, but I want to do so in case there are any other women who struggle with this. I want to be more open about how this doctrine hurts with those around me and in my community, but speaking about it is difficult. I have chatted with a number of priests and it's clear to me that even they struggle with this issue.

2024.05.12 03:31 freifraufischer A (not so quick) and Dirty Guide for Four Year Fans of Rhythmic (who happen to be regular fans of Artistic Gymnastics)

A (not so quick) and Dirty Guide for Four Year Fans of Rhythmic (who happen to be regular fans of Artistic Gymnastics)
(This is a lose adaptation of a very long thread I posted on the bird site. It's meant as a summary so there are things in here that are overly broad but I mostly want to help artistic fans know what is going on in Rhythmic with Paris on the horizon.)
So you only watch Rhythmic Gymnastics every 4 years and OMG Paris is in a few months and you have no idea what your watching except dropping things is bad and wasn't this sport like super corrupt?
Let's start with the basics. In the ye olden times all female gymnasts used to do exercises with portable and non portable apparatus. So a balance beam would be non portable and things like clubs, or balls would be portable. What we know of as artistic gymnasts competed in team portable apparatus. This video is from the 1952 Olympics and at the .10 mark you can see the Hungarian team which includes the great Ágnes Keleti (HUN)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtZ9t_9O-b0
One of my favorite facts about Auntie Ágnes is that not only is she the oldest living Olympic champion at 103, a holocaust survivor and number 3 on the all time women's Olympic medal list... she's also a reigning Olympic champion as her team was the last to win gold on Team PA before the event was discontinued. A lot of things were changing in gymnastics in the 1950s, women stopped doing Rings, the uneven bars started evolving from just being a set of pbars set to different heights, and they stopped doing exercises with portable apparatus. It was in this period that the sport that we now know of as Rhythmic Gymnastics split off and embraced ways to make themselves different from Artistic Gymnastics. What I want to emphasize here is that Rhythmic is just as "old school" as Artistic.
It might be useful to point out here that in a lot of languages call MAG/WAG "Sport Gymnastics" (Russian) or "Apparatus Gymnastics" (many other European languages). In these contexts RG is often called "Artistic Gymnastics" because the sport emphasizes artistry so much more. The idea here is that this is a discipline that emphasizes more musicality, dance, formal ballet, and as a consequence they ban things like saltos. I'm mostly talking to people who are familiar with artistic gymnastics so think of this as "dance elements taken to 11".
Broadly a RG wants to keep the apparatus moving at all times as they perform elements, to avoid dropping it but also to avoid holding onto it with an obvious death grip. The ball should for instance sit in the hand, not be squeezed to keep hold. Here is a basic guide to ball handling by a British RGI (Individual Rhythmic Gymnast) and just understanding that basic foundation of handling really goes a long way to explain just how difficult the sport is.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3MSLaVO-MM&t=246s
They throw the apparatus but your eye should stay on the gymnast not the flying apparatus as they do dance between the throw and the catch. If they catch the apparatus when they can't see it that's extra difficulty. Sometimes really terrible television camera crews will follow the apparatus in the air instead of the gymnast and this is very much worse than when they do face close ups on beam. All of the elements are what is happening UNDER the apparatus during the throw.
One of the things I find incredible about rhythmic gymnasts is just how smart they need to be in order to do their sport. We're talking a special and physical awareness that is second to none because they need that catch to appear natural and effortless. A hand should meet the apparatus you shouldn't stick your arm up and wait for it to arrive. You should be in the right place to catch it without having to move unnaturally out of your choreography or you will get a trajectory deduction. As a good casual rule of thumb, if you are seeing them trying hard to do something, something is wrong.
In fact, the ability of the gymnast to precisely control those throws means that when they do ribbon at the elite level they turn the air handling off in the arena so as not to influence the 6 meters of flying silk (that's almost 20 feet in freedom units). This adds a new level of awe when you realize that during ribbon qualification at last year's world's in Valencia, Spain it was 35 C (or 95 F). Please think about that later when I show you ribbon routines. And how toasty it will certainly be for athletes in Paris.
The apparatus are Hoop, Ball, Clubs, Ribbon, and Rope. Wait... what? Rope?! Yes. So they used to rotate between the 5 apparatus but Rope has fallen out of favor largely because it's difficult to read on TV, though many purists think it's the most difficult apparatus.
It's still competed among juniors and here is 2019 Junior Rope Apparatus World Champion Anastasia Simakova (RUS) (now GER)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-G47KnUCZY
Another useful thing to know about the apparatus is that the clubs can be connected together or disconnected and this will frequently happen during the course of routines. My favorite weird fact about rhythmic is that if the clubs go out of bounds while connected it counts as one apparatus, but if you yeet the clubs out of bounds while they are separated it's two for double the penalty. No really... I will never not find this funny for some reason.
https://preview.redd.it/205fhweiyvzc1.png?width=438&format=png&auto=webp&s=3c1693c4f044588989d107a5effa90dcd02a718f
As a note, Ribbon always scores lower than the other apparatus, and you don't just risk dropping it but knots or even tangling yourself up in the ribbon in a kind of sparkly auto-bondage happen more frequently than you might think.
RG scoring is fairly complicated but in brief: Difficulty, Execution, and Artistry scores which are combined together to create a total. Execution and Artistry are out of a 10.0. Think of Execution the same way you would in AG, somewhere in the 8s is good. You start to look for something fairly major wrong when you have an E in the low 7s, and anything below 7 for an Olympic contender was a car crash. Like .44 in this video where major Olympic contender Stiliana Nikolova (BUL) trips on the spare apparatus.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pbx4R4M3akk&t=44s
Difficulty is open ended and is broken up into DA (difficulty of apparatus handling) and DB (body difficulty). If you want a better summary than I could ever give you (if a little outdated because of updates), here is the 2022-24 code in 15 minutes from Clematis on youtube. It was made for a RG point of view but I think if you are used to the WAG code you can probably follow along well enough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxIlbaiPJWY
Some gymnasts (like Nikolova and Darja Varfolomeev (GER)) build their routines on extremely high difficulty while others like Ekaterina Vedeneeva (SLO) and Daria Atamanov (ISR) concentrate on lower difficulty more securely done.
Rhythmic Group Gymnastics (RGG) is performed with 5 gymnasts together doing complex interacting choreography and exchanges. The apparatus for RGG changes every few years but always one routine is done with 5 of the same apparatus, and another with a mix of 2. The Paris quad RGG is 5 Hoops, and 3 Ribbons/2 Balls. People who want chaos wish for 10 Clubs but that's not in the cards for the next quad either.
If you aren't used to watching Rhythmic I promise you are probably better at spotting when things go wrong than you think. You may not know what it is, but "wait that's not right" comes quickly. Because the IOC hates fun, there are only two medal events at the Olympics, the All Around in RGI and the All Around in RGG. At world championships there is the All Around for both individuals and groups, but there are also apparatus finals. Because there are no apparatus medals at the Olympics we sometimes wont get to see the real masters of a given apparatus. Imagine if you never got to see Sanne Wever's beam because to get to the Olympics she had to be one of the top 24 All Arounders in the world.
Which is really an important thing to point out. There are only 24 individual rhythmic gymnasts at the Olympics. That is a TINY fraction of the competitive field. Relative to international competition there will be many highly competitive RGIs left home compared to WAGs. I want to dwell on that point for a moment so I'm going to apply the RGI Olympic qualifying procedure to the Artistic field. Rhythmic worlds Olympic QFers were all non-nominative, meaning the place is awarded to the country not the gymnast by name.
If WAG Olympic QF looked like RGI:
  • 2022 Worlds BRA, USA, GBR
  • 2023 Worlds USA, CAN, BRA, ITA, CHN, CHN, FRA, NED, ALG, GBR, AUS, ITA, ROU, GER
  • Continental Spots MEX, EGY, JPN, BEL, NZL
  • Reallocated Host Spot KOR
  • Plus a universality spot.
Congrats, each of those flags is 1 of your favorites. You only get 1 dutch WAG, who are you picking? You only get 2 Italians. We know what a bloodbath it was the last time the Romanians had to pick 1 WAG to go to the Olympics...
Back to the real world there are some heart breakers. There are 4 Bulgarians in the top 12 All Arounders this year. They have 2 spots in Paris. Other countries like Germany, Italy, and Ukraine will be leaving at least one great gymnast at home.
I'm going to go through the likely Olympic field, as well as some that will not make the Olympics because they deserve their flowers too. These routines are, for the most part, the their top scoring routines from 2024, or if I thought a 2023 Worlds routine is a better representative I've used that. For the top 5 All Arounders this year I'm showing you a routine on each apparatus.
  • 😁= Going to be in Paris
  • 😊= Likely to be in Paris
  • 😑= Their country earned a spot and they could theoretically get named but aren't likely
  • 😔= Will not be in Paris
😊 Stiliana Nikolova (BUL)
I call Nikolova "Rhythmic Flavia" after her long lost sister Flavia Saraiva in every sense of the word. Incredibly talented. Incredibly beautiful. But also a reputation for errors in finals that hold her back. She qualified in 1st for the AA at 2023 Worlds but came in 4th in the final. Remember what I said about how you can probably spot something wrong with "that doesn't look natural?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLPt-3rifnA&t=119s
By the way, she's 18, just very short which isn't that common for a rhythmic gymnast. Her father was a professional football player and played in the 1986 FIFA World Cup for Bulgaria... continuing my theme of elite gymnasts with international footballer fathers.
😊 Sofia Raffaeli (ITA)
Sofia Raffaeli is the 2022 World Champion and the 2023 World Silver Medalist. She had a pretty major coaching change last year that was very disruptive and it's my perception that she has been doing a lot of tinkering with her routines.
😊 Daria Atamanov (ISR)
Are you starting to get a theme of music pandering to the Paris audience yet?
Atamanov was on a roll in 2022 as the European Champion (which means a LOT in RG), 2 gold medals at the World Games... and then she broke her leg in warmups at 2022 Worlds. She came back to win bronze in the AA at 2023 Worlds.
😊 Darja Varfolomeev (GER)
Varfolomeev was born in Siberia but left Russia when she was 12 to immigrate to the country of her grandfather. I've heard that Irina Viner thought Varfolomeev's body wasn't right for rhythmic... well she is the 2022 World Silver medalist and swept every gold at 2023 Worlds. One of the things that is really striking about Varfolomeev is that unlike most Germans she enthusiastically sings the German national anthem on the medal stand every. single. time. Which was a lot in Valencia.
😊 Boryana Kaleyn (BUL)
Remember what I said about how European Champions mean a lot in Rhythmic? Well Kaleyn is the 2023 European Champion. But she's been less successful at worlds relative to her continental success. 4 Worlds medals (1 team gold and 3 silvers) to 13 European Championship medals.
If I was a betting woman I'd say the Olympic medals are going to come from that first 5 gymnasts I introduced. There are others of course but these 5 gymnasts own all the World and European AA medals from this quad.
😊 Takhmina Ikromova (UZB)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chS5Y-8c8do
Ikromova owns the 11th highest All Around score of the year so far... her problem is those 5 big names hold the top 10 between them. Still she's the best rhythmic gymnast in Asia and came in 5th at worlds last year. On a good day she could medal in Paris but she may need help. And the Bulgarians are inclined towards helping others medal way too often for the sanity of their fans.
😑 Elvira Krasnobaeva (BUL)
Clubs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lw7_y3Rh50
Remember how limited the Olympic field is? Well this is the 7th best RGI by AA score this year. She almost certainly wont be in Paris because Kaleyn and Nikolova are just better bets.
😁 Elzhana Taniyeva (KAZ) - Asian Champs Quota
Clubs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb9gZGdUkZY
😊 Ekaterina Vedeneeva (SLO)
Ribbon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NByCW_nEUws
Bronze medalist with ribbon at 2022 and 2023 Worlds is the beloved veteran finally able to shine later in her career. Think about how WAG fans feel about Georgia Godwin or Ellie Black and mix that with the elegance of an Eythora Thorsdottir. She originally competed for Russia but switched to Slovenia in 2018, in contrast to someone I will mention later Irina Viner did not oppose her transfer. A key difference was that Viner never saw Vedeneeva as a threat to take medals from Russian gymnasts.
😑 Eva Brezalieva (BUL)
Hoop - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mTbBZS2TzQ
Remember how I said 4 of the top 12 All Arounders this year were Bulgarian? Meet number 4. Unfortunately for her they only have 2 spots in Paris.
😊 Alba Bautista (ESP)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyTRgKgyK6c
😊 Viktoriia Onopriienko (UKR)
Clubs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4icRp-FX5Y
Bronze with clubs at 2023 Worlds, this is one of my favorite routines of last year. It also shows what the power of a giant crowd that actually has rhythm clapping unlike some depressing artistic gymnastics crowds. But you may know her from this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOCHFWODAGY
😊 Margarita Kolosov (GER)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCwB_3ESnPQ
Remember how I said Germany will have a hard choice, after Varfolomeev they have two very talented gymnasts plagued with inconsistency. Kolosov is likely the one who will win out here (which some may feel is right as she earned the second German spot at worlds however the other athlete wasn't permitted to compete at 2023 Worlds....). I think of Kolosov for her incredibly aggressive towel throwing at the start of her walk out. Every time.
😑 Anastasia Simakova (GER)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OotziO4k34w
Kolosov can't breath easy because running neck and neck with her is her club mate Anastasia Simakova but if inconsistency marks both of them it does Simakova more. She had been a Jr. World Champion for Russia and came to Germany (where her parents had immigrated) in 2022. Simakova's family are from the ethnic German minority in Russia and she told Irina Viner that she was going to Germany to get (a very real) back injury treated. And never came back. The Disney Villain of Gymnastics was displeased and held up her country transfer for a year. A stress point is that she didn't immigrate to a country where it would be easier to make the Olympics. She moved to the one her parents had already immigrated to.
Viner has allowed Russian gymnasts to leave and compete for small unthreatening countries in the past, but generally those have been "B" team gymnasts. Simakova had far too much success and Germany (and her coach Yulia Raskina) were far to outside of Viner's control to allow it.
😊 Fanni Pigniczki (HUN)
Hoop - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsKKiL3kA1Y
The most successful Hungarian rhythmic gymnast ever, she won bronze with the hoop at 2023 Worlds. The Spanish crowd gave her a nickname after the motion one makes while making potato croqueta.
😊 Zohra Aghamirova (AZE)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVP7dSfv44k
😊 Helene Karbanov (FRA)
Ribbon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwD31PfYp-0
The French were very proud of the fact that they qualified both a group and an individual in their own right and didn't need a host spot. Karbanov doesn't quite have the difficulty to contend for medals but her artistry is lovely and enjoyable.
😊 Bárbara Domingos (BRA)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD_oAqQINLQ
Domingos is pretty decisively the best RG in the Americas right now and I expect insanity when Rhythmic Worlds is held in Brazil next year. One of the things I love about this routine is you can clearly see how they can't grip the ball so the handling has to be precise.
😊 Milena Baldassarri (ITA)
Hoop - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6beHGGdPq7M
Baldassarri finished 6th in Tokyo and is probably the second Italian but she has a younger potential rival for that spot that is chasing at her heals.
😑 Tara Dragas (ITA)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cto6j-UgN6k
I actually think the fight between the Italians for the second spot should be tighter than the German race but I just can't let go of the sense that it will go to Baldassarri. Dragas is young though and surely a name for the LA quad.
😊 Polina Berezina (ESP)
This was my personal favorite ball routine of last year, it was choreographed for the University Games in Chengdu but she didn't end up going. She was very careful to make sure she included a mix of real Chinese martial arts movements. I also really like her 2024 Clubs to the music of Black Panther. Though Berezina was born in Russia and her sister works in film there now, she has lived in Spain since she was 4 and has had all her training in Spain. She is a product of the robust Spanish gymnastics system, not the Russian one.
😊 Annaliese Dragan (ROU)
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A5zc1Ts_gM
😁 Wang Zilu (CHN) - Reallocated Host Quota
We all have favorites and Wang Zilu is mine. Full disclosure.
😁 Aliaa Saleh (EGY) - African Championships Quota
Ball - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r40wQHtYQBA
😁 Evita Griskenas (USA) - Pan American Games Quota
Ribbon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--ergCL_3Ow
She is the 2019 Pan American Games AA champion and 2023 Pan American Games silver medalist. She will be the only American rhythmic representation in Paris as the US did not qualify a group.
😔 Alina Harnasko (AIN)
Ribbon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YWf8A6Xem0
Harnasko is the Tokyo bronze medalist and without question I think the best non Bulgarian FIG authorized RGI who wont be in Paris. She can not qualify as her only path to the Olympics would have been the European Championships and European Gymnastics has maintained their ban. That said, I don't think even if Harnasko had been in Paris she would have medaled. Having watched her over the course of the season (as well as other Belarussians), it's fairly clear to me that the Belarussians haven't maintained the difficulty curve to stay competitive.
That covers the top individuals, there will be another European (not from a previously qualified country) and an Australian in the field. Group isn't my thing and I'm not keeping a running tally of the leading scores for groups so this will be a bit more vibes
Israel (2023 World Champions)
3 Ribbons/2 Balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hVWyjhZzzU
I think at the moment Israel is the most likely to medal in group (if not gold). But Group can go south very quickly as seen with the same group doing the same routine at the Palaio Faliro World Cup
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zl0WAhN3CE
Bulgaria (2022 World Champions)
3 Ribbons/2 Balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXYwZmzSLZo
But I hear you saying, why do I think Israel has better odds than Bulgaria? They're stunning. And aren't they the Olympic champions? Well yes, A Buglarian group were the Olympic Champions, but this is a different Bulgarian group. They are much younger and the pressure on them is tremendous and cracks show quite frequently. Most tragically at 2023 Worlds. When your 5 Hoops routine is suddenly a 7 Hoops routine as you yeet the apparatus out of bounds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVzWW0ulHFM
Spain
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LxSPZAK_Vo
China
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wd6wpMmFZo
I desperately want the Chinese group to medal in Paris. They're my favs. I'm sorry I can't talk more coherently about groups than I can about individuals.
Italy
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e05ezkvFHGg
Ukraine
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bUW61a17xU
Brazil
3 Ribbons 2 Balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlE2tP6mVRw
This is a very early season competition but it's my favorite mixed apparatus group routine this year and I think showcases how different styles can be integrated into rhythmic. I can't wait to see this routine in Paris.
France
3 Ribbons 2 Balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZu9ZkZNkyQ
Yes, this is the second Moulin Rouge I've shown you. Welcome to the Paris Olympics!
Mexico - Pan American Games Quota
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K36uEWicn8
Egypt - African Championships Quota
3 Ribbons 2 Balls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGXCmYIpyAI
Uzbekistan - Asian Championships Quota
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGjMF3VIXjQ
Germany - Either the European Quota OR the Reallocated Host Quota
5 Hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py7M0QKBZ3g
There will another European country which will either be whoever wins the European quota or if Germany wins it then AZE
I have been salty about the fact that Australia gets a free pass to the Olympics despite finishing 23 of 24 Groups at 2023 Worlds but apparently they have a new group this year who I'm assured is not that bad.
Anyway so that's the Olympic field, for the most part, because I'm a structural nerd I'm going to hit on a few other points.
Corruption
The sport has a terrible and long history of corruption, including judges cheating on FIG exams (you can thank rhythmic for why FIG doesn't like holding online exams), bribery, favoritism, and straight up writing the code of points to favor a particular athlete. I will be honest and tell you that the corruption kept me from giving the sport a chance for a long time and I don't blame you if you find it a non starter as well. It's still a problem but I have hope.
There is no getting around that Rhythmic is essentially an Eastern European sport and Russia has dominated for many years in part because of the immense amount of money they spend not just at home but in other federations. One might say that Irina Viner bought herself a sport. Not that it wasn't for sale before Viner.
To give a sense of the amount of money involved let's talk about palaces to Rhythmic Gymnastics. Literal Palaces.
This is the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace in Moscow.
This is the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, built in large part for the first lady/vice president of the country whose favorite sport is... you guest it.
National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan
Just the mention of Baku is enough to send some rhythmic fans into PTSD flashbacks for completely unjustifiable scoring (and terrible camera work and and and ...) . The fact that the arena was built for Rhythmic though, will explain to Artistic fans why the arena can't put both a beam and a set of parallel bars on it's floor space at the same time at the Baku World Cup.
The sport also has a vicious history of coaching abuse and eating disorders that I wont defend and I don't think has really been addressed. But the elephant in the room of all of this corruption and abuse is Irina Viner, the president of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation. Irina Viner was married to Oligarch Alisher Usmanov, at one point Russia's richest man. He's currently the president of the European Fencing Federation which explains how they've massively botched handling Russian athletes.
Her Wikipedia Article.
They divorced for financial reasons after Usmanov was subject to many many many sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine. His mega yacht is stranded in Germany.
Anyway, Irina Viner dresses like a Disney Villain and acts like one too. After she viciously attacked the judges at the Tokyo Olympics she was banned for 2 years starting from the day after Russia's international ban ends.

She has at different points told gymnasts that she'll kill them if they try to retire, and pulled Russian support from her own hand picked president of the Rhythmic Technical Committee because she didn't fall in line in Tokyo. The carrot to performing for Viner though is a promise of a marriage to an obscenely wealthy Russian man at the end of your career. Or you know... becoming the mother of Putin's children. Khorkina's face in this picture...

So they're banned and they've dominated the sport for so long surely they're doing amazing things at their domestic competitions now. Well... for values of amazing. Viner has decided to create her own personal code of points which the Russians are now competing to. It emphasizes elements that in previous FIG CoPs caused massive numbers of injuries. Massive scores despite obvious errors and their gymnasts are breaking down physically. They've also brought up a non-apparatus routine setting called Free Hands which is normally competed by juniors... but hey if Irina likes it she's playing in her own sandbox now.
Would the Russians be competitive if they were in Paris? Sure. Probably. But maybe not? It's hard to tell when they're playing in lala land and have routines composed for an entirely different code of points. No Russians have applied for FIG AIN status.
But here is the best part.... Rhythmic Gymnastics is taking the time they have without the Russians and without Viner and they're fixing as much as they can as fast as they can. The age for juniors was raised last year (something Irina very much did not want) and the 2025-28 Code of Points takes a hatchet to a lot of the difficulty stacking (very broad over simplification) that has been written into previous codes to favor particular Russian gymnasts. They're basically unwinding what she did to the CoP either directly or through her influence.
And right now Rhythmic is more competitive than it's ever been. A wide variety of countries are winning medals, and the RGI All Around in Paris looks to be the most unpredictable that it has ever been and much more unpredictable than the artistic all arounds.
The biggest looming issue for Rhythmic though is the IOC's clear dislike of single gendered sports. With the introduction of men to artistic swimming it's hard to think that Rhythmic will stay in the Olympics for very long if they don't find some way to include men.
There are two competing styles of men's rhythmic but neither has a mass of athletes. The first is Japanese Men's Rhythmic which includes things you normally would see in Artistic. Some argue that it's basically a different sport.
Japanese Men's Rhythmic Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D48ZPoY2e2Y
The second style is Spanish Men's Rhythmic which more closely echoes the women's discipline.

Men's rhythmic faces a lot of resistance rooted in homophobia and I don't know how it's going to resolve. But the IOC is pretty much an unmovable object and they have been systematically forcing gendered integration on single gender sports.
If you want to learn more here is a great video from a few years ago about the state of Men's Rhythmic and showing a lot of examples:

I'll leave you off with one last routine.
😑 Taisiia Onofriichuk (UKR)

Onofriichuk will almost certainly not be in Paris but I feel like her exhausting ribbon is a good way to end this marathon of a thread.

Park Skis Recommendations
I recently purchased Ski Addiction tramp skis and was able to do a back flip and front flip (woo hoo). I am interested in getting into Park skiing next winter. Probably will train on trampoline and Big Snow during the off season. I'm not sure I will apply the flips to skiing but off axis rotations, grabs, etc (lower risk stuff). Curated recommended the following park skis in the picture. Wondering what skis you all recommend? I am a female, 140 lbs, 5'5", ski at Gore and Killington or wherever the discounts are 😆. I am intermediate skiier, but have a background in gymnastics.

2024.05.10 05:30 savvannahgrrace Predictions for season 33

You guys can add on to this list if you want but here’s a general idea of who we are probably going to see
• Someone from Bachelor nation- I wish dwts would take a break from the bachelor(ette) franchise and maybe even cast someone from a different romance reality tv show, but because they both run through abc, I fully expect to see a contestant from there. Because we just had two girls, my guess is probably Joey or Gerry (or possibly a “fan-favorite” from Jenn’s upcoming season). If we get a girl, my guesses are probably Maria, daisy, or Kelsey a • An Olympian- the Olympics are this year, and they happen right before DWTS airs, so they will probably get an Olympian, don’t know for what sport, probably an ice skater or female gymnast, but I’m hoping they get someone for a different sport • A singer- they usually have a musician of some sort, so I expect to see someone in the music industry join, could see someone like Jesse mccartney since he did masked singer and Deena Katz casts for that show too I think • an “older” actoactress- ive noticed they have been casted older actors/actresses that are kinda known for one or two major roles (Melora, Mira, Barry, Martin kove, Kate flannery, etc.) so I’d expect they would be casting an older contestant, someone like Jennifer love Hewitt maybe • Reality contestant- whether it’s a housewives person, bravo person, they are bound to be cast. I’d also add a dance moms girl because they just had their reunion special in may, hoping Chloe Lukasiak gets cast, or maybe even a mom, like Christi or Kelly • controversial contestant- I wish we wouldn’t cast anybody controversial so I don’t have to get a headache when they are on my screen, but unfortunately, someone like that is gonna be cast. I’m unsure if a person in politics would get cast since it’s an election year, but I wouldn’t throw that idea away since Sean spicer was on in 2020. I know Gypsy rose has been asked and declined, but she’s chilling in Hollywood right now, so maybe she might change her mind • Social media influencestar- with Rylee’s success on social media and social media recent success in general, we will probably have social media stars on for quite a while. I’d say Alix Earle or Livvy dunne, but I could see maybe a YouTuber as well, may pay just retired, so he could be a possibility. Maybe a sturnilio brother? • NFl/NBA/MLB player (retired)- we usually get someone from one of those leagues, so I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw an athlete on, I don’t know who’s retired that wouldn’t be considered too big, Jason kelce is probably too big, considering the swiftie army, idk if he would do it and I might be biased because I’m a saints fan, but drew brees, he’s not too big because he’s been retired for a few years, but he has a great track record

2024.05.09 23:53 sienna0909 Max HR change

Hi!
Looking to understand the pretty big change in my max HR. I started OTF a little over a month ago. I’ve been going to class 2x per week and love it.
I was a gymnast for many years but got pretty out of shape in the last two years. I have NEVER been one for running and cardio and always struggled there and excelled in strength.
I am 24 and female for reference. My original max HR after my first class was 191. It then changed about 5 classes in to 192 which was basically no change. I even did strength dri tri on 4/20 and spent the entire thing in the red zone. In fact, I seem to spend a lot of time in red, even when I don’t feel gassed.
I just finished my mile benchmark yesterday and noticed I didn’t spend as much time in the red as I used to. I looked and my max HR changed from 192 to 201! That alarmed me at first because that seems high. The highest it has ever gone in class is 208.
So, what does this mean? Is this bad or is that a good sign? I thought higher max HR means healthy but I don’t know if it should be that high at my age. I also recover rather quickly. Like less than a minute to go from red to green.
I also usually get between 30-45 splats in class which is silly. Even when I feel relaxed. I’m thinking my HR zones are going to be more accurate but I’m not sure.
Looking for any thoughts!
Thank you :)
