I’ve never uploaded on here before, but something has been going on with me and my mom for a really long time now and I just want to know if I am at fault. (I’m 17F)So today my mom picked me up from school, I was really happy because I made the flag team and my mom was equally as happy, before we entered the house she told me to make sure I wash the dishes before I go inside and I said okay, nothing big, no worries, then as im filling the sink with water and everything to wash the dishes, my step dad comes in and says “stairs. points to stairs The microwave.points to microwave” My mom didn’t hear (she is hard of hearing) so he repeats himself but he was mad and was talking about excessive rabbit hair on the stairs. My mom then proceeded to yell at him about taking to people in a rude way then she puts her anger towards me and says I never do anything without people asking me to but the thing is when they ask me to do a chore or something, I never complain or put up a fit. I just do it. And then she started talking about how the hair is everywhere. I wasn’t going to try to fight fire with fire so then I proceeded to say yeah I acknowledged the hair and that I got rid of one of my pets to decrease the amount of hair and I was trying to say that Overtime the amount of hair is going to decrease or nothing at all because I gave away my rabbit, which is the source to the hair. I was speaking calmly while she was yelling at me and getting aggressive at me and even at one point coming up to my face and shaking as if she was going to hit me. She’s saying I’m trying to distract her from the situation and that I was being cocky and I like for them so argue and that I never do anything and that I don’t care and that I’m spoiled because she does everything for me and I can’t even do things like wash the dishes, sweep the floor or clean the bathroom. But the thing is when I give away my rabbit, which was on Sunday I swept the floor(upstairs/downstairs) because there was a lot of hair that I noticed that was left over which was what I was trying to say. yes I don’t do it every day, which is the part that I’m at fault at, but I was trying to say that I noticed and I hear her voice. I wasn’t trying to defend myself, which is what she is saying that I’m doing. also, I looked in the bathroom when she finished yelling at me in the bathroom was clean. There was just my pajamas sitting on the top of the toilet seat so I just took that up and put it in my room. I understand her frustration because I am kind of a lazy person and I put school and sleep first instead of doing household things. And to get the record straight, I do not have set chores. I do not have a to do list when I get home. Also, my mom does not cook every day. She barely cooks and I mostly eat out so I have no idea where the dishes come from initially because she works from home and she’s the only one who eats and doesn’t wash the dishes. I don’t mind doing things and yes I know I forget and that I’m lazy but when they tell me to do things, I never complain and I jump up to it. I’m sorry that this is a long one and then I’m kind of rambling but there’s a lot of background factors as well. Like my stepdad is sexist. He thinks woman have said. I just don’t think it’s right for me to be accused of talking back being cocky or liking for them so argue just because of how I am or the situation because those things are not true and I try to say something I try to explain myself or say something as she takes it as disrespect and then she turns around and asked me things like “why don’t you never talk to me” or “why don’t you ever try to have a conversation with me until I’m in trouble” , and I think it’s obvious why would I want to start a conversation and initially start an argument because I know how you are. This is not the first time she has yelled at me and I’ve tried to speak to her calmly and she gets even more mad at me and starts yelling at me. I don’t understand what to do and she says that she doesn’t care how I feel or anything I just don’t understand how you ask me a question and I respond or you can say something to me and I respond in a calm way even though you’re yelling at me you still get angrier and angrier just because I’m trying to have a civilized conversation with you. Anyways, AITA ?

Hey all - I just started a big NV playthrough with a bunch of mods, no issues save for 1 so far as I followed VNV+ to a t, then installed mods that only had compatibility patches with one another or ones that didn't change anything. Only issues so far is with the Salt Lake Stories mod where the quest giver for the mod is sitting in front of a fire that is missing a textures, and then some of the little caves for More Mojave have a texture of the old mountains covering them up but I can walk through them with no issue. I'd like to make sure I don't have any big problems though (crashes or significant issues with quests/content), so where would I be able to find help to just once over my list, get rid of any unnecessary junk, etc.? My biggest concern is the load order because I accidentally let LOOT organize it in MO2 and it honestly seemed to do ok? But nevertheless.

Hi everyone - I'm hoping for some quick recommendations of where to start my search for a family camper. We are young, active family, with three kids aged 6 and under. We live in the mountain west and camp one to three times per year in off-grid sites (1-3 nights each trip), and another two to three times per year in maintained National Park or State Park type sites (2-4 nights each trip). All in all, about 10-15 nights of camping annually.
While my wife and I previously tent camped frequently, as we are getting older, we appreciate more luxuries, a true bed, and honestly, the safety of a hard sided trailer. We have never owned one before - but have spent one trip in a rented trailer.
Our goal is not to have the most luxurious, largest camper. Our preferences / wish list for a camper are here: - Sleeps 2 adults AND 3 kids in some fashion (fine with 3 kids piled onto a queen bed) - Ease of use - simple, but nice. Don't need tons of bells and whistles. Basically, to us a trailer is a glorified, comfy tent. Protection from elements, comfortable beds, usable living space on rainy days, sound insulation from neighbors, protection from bears/wildlife. - Quality - not having to fix or worry about tinkering with complex, high-maintenance systems, while being nice for the money - good value. - Solar capacity would be nice - I prefer as much as possible vs. fuel powered appliances, etc. - Minimal bathroom is fine. - A full, luxury kitchen is not necessary either. Generally make due with cold, camp stove based and/or fire based meals. - Dirt road capable - but not doing anything overland/expedition-ey.
Looking for scour the used market to find something in the $16k-$25k range - could stretch to $30k. Don't necessarily need new - but needs to be in great condition (likely 2018 or newer).
Tow rating of my vehicle is 6500lbs... but would love if this was <4500lbs, even <4000lbs.
Looked at: ALiner Evolution 15, but seems kind of expensive for what it is. Rockwood Geo Pro G19BH or G20BHS, seem like a reasonable choices - might be overkill. NoBo NB19.8 - again, overkill and significantly heavier than GeoPro.

Almost everyone is probably aware of the timeline inconsistency in Book 1 of HoC with the Fall of Pale being said to have just happened, and this not matching up with it supposedly being 1159 Burn's Sleep. What most people might not be aware of is that even if the year was 1163 it would still be an inconsistency because it would be the wrong time of the year.
In chapter 2 of GotM Tattersail tells us Pale fell in late winter:

In some military headquarters back in the Empire's capital of Unta, three thousand leagues distant, an anonymous aide would paint a red stroke across the 2nd Army on the active list, and then write in fine script beside it: Pale, late winter, the 1163rd Year of Burn's Sleep. Thus would the death of nine thousand men and women be noted. And then forgotten.

But in chapter 1 of HoC, right after Karsa has started his journey, we are told that it is late spring:

Less than a score days remained in this, the season of spring.

While in chapter 3 Torvald Nom says Pale has just fallen:

‘This is Culvern Crossing,’ the Daru went on, ‘and it’s a storm swirling with the latest news from the south. All right, a small storm, given the size of this latrine pit of a town. The scum of the Nathii, which is saying a lot. The Malazan company’s pretty excited, though. Pale’s just fallen, you see. A big battle, lots of sorcery, and Moon’s Spawn retreated-likely headed to Darujhistan, in fact. Beru take me, I wish I was there right now, watching it crossing the lake, what a sight that’d be. The company, of course, are wishing they’d been there for the battle. Idiots, but that’s soldiers for you-’

It's clear that Pale must have just fallen, and it can't be months old news that have just reached them since Torvald thinks Moon's Spawn is crossing Lake Azur in that very moment. Karsa's journey would have to have taken him nine months for it to be late spring when he set out, but be late winter when he's in Culvern Crossing. Karsa needing nine months to reach Silver Lake seems far too long.
There is also another indication that Karsa travels to Seven Cities around the time of GotM, and that is later in chapter 3 after they have entered the Nascent when the Unbound are on board the Silanda after Karsa has killed Binadas they sense they are hunted by other T'lan Imass:

‘Let us find out. Begin the preparations. Ber’ok, scatter that handful of otataral dust in the cabin-the Tiste Edur sorcerer’s warren remains open and, in this place, it will quickly become a wound… a growing wound. The time has not yet come for such unveilings.’ The speaker then lifted its mangled head and seemed to sniff the air. ‘We must work quickly,’ it announced after a moment. ‘I believe we are being hunted.’ The remaining six turned to face the speaker, who nodded in answer to their silent question. ‘Yes. There are kin upon our trail.’

I think it's a very reasonable to assume that these are the same hunters that Felisin's group encounter in chapter 9 of DG. I also think it would be weird to have these T'lan hunters roaming the Nascent for years without finding the Silanda, but them being there for a handful of months seems relatively reasonable.
Another oddity related to the timeline placement of HoC Book 1 is the age of Karsa's daughters in TtH. If we assume that Harllo is five years old in TtH as the book says, then TtH should be set during late winter 1170, since he was conceived in the middle of 1164 in MoI, and would therefore be born in 1165 and be five in 1170. If HoC book 1 is in 1159 then this would mean that Karsa's daughters should be around 10 years old, which seems far too young.
Karsa's daughters being 10 might in fact be too generous. In tGiNW we learn that Sarlis was pregnant with Rant for 2 years, and if Teblor women have equally long pregnancies then Karsa's daughters wouldn't be born before 1161, and only be 9 in TtH. If we also take the date for HoC Book 1 to be winter of 1163 based on the Fall of Pale reference, then Karsa's daughters would in fact be younger than Harrlo.
Something that many might not know is that when HoC was originally published the year given for Book 1 wasn't 1159, but 1139. I wonder if Erikson might have based the age of Karsa's daughters on the 1139 date, which would mean that they are in their late twenties in TtH, which seems much more reasonable. But this would be a very strange error to make if the 1139 date was simply a typo. Erikson should know that HoC Book 1 isn't decades before the other books, unless that was in fact the original plan and he forgot he had changed it.
I feel the type of timeline errors related to HoC Book 1 indicate that there originally was a time skip in the middle of it that was abandoned relatively late in the writing process. Erikson has said that he doesn't care overmuch about the timeline, but he also prides himself on that he doesn't put anything in a book that he doesn't feel must absolutely be there. I can't really see any purpose to the mention of the Fall of Pale except to give the reader an idea of the timeline, but this would be unnecessary since we have already been given the year and even the season earlier in the book. If there had been a time skip then Erikson feeling the need to clarify when the story is taking place would make perfect sense.
My guess is that Erikson originally planned for HoC Book 1 to start in late spring of 1139, and then have a time skip and end it in late winter of 1163. In chapter 2 Karsa gets captured by the people of Silver Lake and put in a slave pit, but he almost immediately escapes before being recaptured by Malazan soldiers. The natural place for a time skip would have been to have Karsa be a slave for 24 years before his escape attempt.
In addition to the age of Karsa's daughter making more sense in TtH, another neat thing with the part of HoC before Karsa becomes a slave being in 1139 would be that Elade Tharos would be 80 years old in tGiNW just like Karsa was 80 at the beginning of HoC, and I really like the symmetry in that. In HoC Elade Tharos is "no more than forty" when he witnesses Karsa killing his family. tGiNW is set about ten years after MBotF, which would be around 1180, roughly 40 years after 1139.
Elade Tharos's ambitions in tGiNW are exactly the same as Karsa's in chapter 1 of HoC when we learn he is 80:

And I have but just begun on this path. Newly arrived to my eightieth year of life, finally a warrior in truth. I have heard the oldest words, the whispers, of the One, who will unite the Teblor, who will bind the clans one and all and lead them into the lowlands and so begin the War of the People. These whispers, they are the voice of promise, and that voice is mine.

If Erikson in fact planned for Karsa to be enslaved for several years then why did he abandon this idea? It might be that Karsa being a slave for so long became too derivative of the Conan the Barbarian film, or it might be as simple that he felt the story flowed better without Karsa being enslaved for a long time. Or there might never have been a time skip with Karsa being enslaved, and I'm just taking crazy pills.

Alright well folks keep asking an update and I have been meaning to, things went smoothish for a bit, but then got more fucked up again and then fine and then fucked again just this morning so here I am. Using you all to make sense of it.

For the days after we talked a lot, she was adamant she wanted nothing to do with him, has no feelings other than friendship and now that she was aware both (a) the possibility of him trying (it is true I or she still don't *know* his intentions) and (b) my reaction to her behavior (leaving out his presence later with her in text messages to me after carpooling/putting our kid to bed, trickle-truthing me on her view of his possible intentions), she said she "doesn't want anything to do with him. no, just no."
She offered up her phone if I wanted to see their conversations, she did the location sharing thing on her iPhone. Was pretty clear that this was all some bullshit and she hates that this situation ever became a thing. She was losing a friend but was more than willing to.
We set some boundaries.

1. People over late at the house, just let the other person know. Obviously family doesn't count. Just to avoid any possibility of any inference, better to let each other know who is in our house that late, 1 on 1.
2. For people who may we feel even have hints of intentions beyond platonic, we should overshare with each other. (thanks helpful commenter) Not overanalyze every relationship but just things like "Doc X said this today, kinda weird" or "new guy at foraging seemed to like me a lot". Stuff like that.

I don't want to be a controlling person, I'm not that person but maybe because of my history I require more openness and communication about things like that in a relationship. She told me I was being too worried about her feelings/me being controlling and that was more than willing to do anything it took to rebuild any trust that was broken from the situation.
2nd session of marriage counseling and obviously topic came up first. I started to give a brief history but got interrupted by our child upstairs, I gave them some attention and came back down to continue. When I got to the part of coming home, taking a shower and confronting my wife, I can't remember who said what, but it was interrupted, talking happened and then the therapist said "and it sounds like (wife name) recognized what had happened and your past". Wife said she didn't know how close/similar some of the details were and the conversation moved on from there. The omission of his presence in text messages, trickletruthing, none of that was brought up.
But things were looking up, not sure I like the therapist but whatever. Things seem to be good. She seemed fairly contrite though I really was still bothered by the red and orange flags planted in my little mind garden.
Fast forward, a week? Something like that.
I fucked up. I guess I'm glad I did but I did fuck up. I don't sleep much, 5 hours max. Was up early, garden tending, made breakfast for little one and coffee for her, usual. I saw her work bag on the floor and I saw her journal in there. And I fucked up and I read it. I wanted to know if he (the 21M) was in her journal.
For some context, I read the journals of my late partner, who died over a decade ago, and it was a stupid horrible mistake. I read things that I shouldn't have, very raw thoughts and feelings, pros and cons list of me. Shit like that. Then, entries about the other man and her falling in love with him. And her thoughts about her conflicted thoughts about leaving me. Near the end, if I recall, she didn't know, she loved us both but we were so different. I kept the journals, still have them somewhere, but I did burn those last pages about him. I do recall telling myself that I was protecting future me. I'm glad I burned those pages and I'm glad I kept her journals but I don't venture to read them anymore. I will again when I'm older, to keep her alive in me somehow I guess.
Anyways, when I saw her journals in the bags I just grabbed them and I read the latest couple pages. Innocuous stuff until I got to about a month ago.
It said: "Texted all night and hike Monday"
Now that wasn't me she texted with or hiked with on that day, that was with him. When she forgot to get her prescription.
So that meant two things to me:

1. Who writes "texted all night" in their journal with someone they don't have feelings about? I'm not a journaler person, I don't like my thoughts enough to put them to paper, but that doesn't seem right to me. No name but def him, the dates match. I don't know, again, I don't journal so maybe anything can mean anything in there but what the fuck.
2. She had planned on hiking with him. She didn't tell me that. She told me of her plans going hiking after work to pass the time before the pharmacy opens, but never told me that he was going too.

In fairness, she told me after she sent pictures of the hike to me and his dog was in the photos. But she didn't mentioned they had planned it together, seemed spontaneous but I never asked I guess.
So yeah, I stopped reading. Kinda felt like I was shot with an arrow. Pretty horrible feeling because I thought things were going to be okay but I now I read this shit.
It was like 6am at this point, so I went on a run to clear my head and get the adrenaline out. Some tears too. Got home and they were still sleeping, when they woke up and we were alone I asked her again if she ever developed any feeling at all for him. She said no. I told her I read her journal. I apologized but I told her I read something and I needed an explanation.
She wasn't happy. She told me those are personal, her thoughts and not for other people. She was also confused as to what I could have possibly read about him/the situation that need explaining. She asked me to show her the entry, I did.

Her response was: "Oh yeah, we texted a lot that night. He wasn't working but I was. You know I wasn't home right? I was working that night."
I asked why it was in her journal? And why were you were planning to hike with him but when you told me about your plans for that day, you never mentioned you were planning it with him?"
She said "Well I didn't know for sure he would come, we were talking bout it but I didn't know for sure" and the texted all night part "didn't mean anything", that journals are fragments, not full thoughts and she was just writing it
I didn't like that answers at all honestly. We had another long discussion where she reassured me it meant nothing, that it shouldn't be interpreted as anything about her having feelings for him. I believe her. I don't know how she journals so maybe this isn't far out of the norm, I don't know.
Have to be honest here, the trust I had in her, a lot of it left. Which is pretty much the basis of a relationship. A lot of people sent me messages after my post with spy cams and shit. If I had to resort to that, I'd just end the relationship I thought. Now here I am snooping on her journals.
Two days later, kid and I go out camping at a park for a couple nights (she's working). Have a blast. During that time away I decide it's important to me to know what conversations took place between them. Yes I snooped, but I think it's reasonable, at this point, to demand to know just what types of things are said between them. She offered earlier, I just never took her up on it because it was really obvious to me, she felt she had nothing to hide.
But after this journal entry thing, yeah I would like to know what 'texted all night' means. I thought if the conversation that night is just bullshit, sure whatever. If it's more, or that night is deleted or something, then I'll know. I honestly expected to read the messages, be reassured of her side of the story and move on.
So we got home yesterday from camping. This morning I asked her if I could read their conversations. Explained why and without hesitation she said yes and went to get her phone. Gave it to me and I sat to start reading.
They had been texting recently, mostly innocuous mushroom stuff, then a one/ a couple attempts by him to come ovego out foraging. I guess he was going to around our area (he lives an hour away) cruising on his motorcycle and her response to him was, as close as I can recall was:
"not today not allowed to have anyone at home. lol"
Alright what the fuck
She saw my face and asked what was wrong. I put the phone down and said I don't want to read anymore.
I asked if she had told him about my view on their relationship, or what happened or anything about him/heI. She said no. I asked again. She said no, he has no clue, she never mentioned anything.
I showed her the text and asked her why she would say that.
Why would she say "no one was allowed" at home? People are allowed in my home, that wasn't any of the boundaries we set together. He's been here, clearly. And why would she say that to him if she never mentioned anything like that to him?
Her response was that she meant she wasn't having people ovewas busy. She then told me "you were home that day...I don't get it". Yeah I didn't read the dates of the text but even so, why the fuck would you word it that way? That's not even close to "no, I'm busy today" or literally any other million ways to say I'm not available today. I'm not allowed to have people at home is entirely different. lol is entirely different.
I cannot see how on earth you get from those words to that meaning she says she was trying to convey. Maybe I'm wrong. She said she didn't mean it that way it's not her mother tongue. To be fair, English is not her first language. She's quite fluent and has learned it from childhood but it's not her primary language. We've spoken exclusively English together for the ~decade I've known her. You wouldn't know it wasn't her primary talking to her unless you had a good ear. But she's right, maybe it just is a mistranslation. She said it was "clumsy" and not meant in any way to convey anything more than "I'm not available today".
We talked all morning until she went to bed. She reassured me she loves me and only me. I walked through every red flag, every opportunity for her to be honest an open. I asked why she didn't tell me about his recent attempts to meet up again?
She said she didn't know she should have told me. She said she didn't know she had to replay every conversation with him to me. I said she didn't, that's not what I was asking. But I was asking for her to be extra open about her relationship with him to me and him asking to come over, twice, definitely would require her letting me know.
I told her she didn't respect me at all. I told her she didn't care enough to tell me. I told her she's not being open and honest with me. That it's not me and her against the world, that this relationship is something else.
She reassured me it meant nothing but now that she sees how that text could be read that way (as if they had discussed him not being allowed in our home, she still denies), that she understands why I would react that way. She was frustrated, she said "it feels like a little fly came into my life and shit all over everything", referring to him and his advances as the cause of what fucked this all up.
I reiterated to her, every step along the way, in which she could have been truthful to me and decide to omit information.
Texting all night and planning the hike.
Staying over late after carpooling together, after our kid went to sleep, texting me and not mentioning he was still over.
Trickle-truthing me on whether she thinks he's interested in her.
His two offers to meet via text/messenger or whatever (that I saw, didn't look more) that she didn't think to tell me about.
And her reply of "not today not allowed to have anyone at home. lol" whatever the fuck that means.
Her position is still the same, that this is all the bad coincidences and misunderstandings, misreading texts or journal entires, etc. But she says she loves me, has only eyes for me and better understands now where I'm coming from.
So.. there's my little hell I've got for myself.
Personal therapy starting soon but I guess reddit therapy will do for now. It's somehow therapeutic to remember this and type it all out. Sorry, looking back this is insanely long, it's too long to proofread if shits garbled. Took me all day to write I guess.

I live with my mom, and my nephew and his gf moved in a couple of months ago. They are both 19. I work nights, so I am home all day, and my mom leaves me list of chores to do. One of them is to vacuum the stairs. They lead to the kitchen. So last night at Like 1 am, my nephews gf gets drunk, and they are arguing about something. I heard her yell, and i heard a lot of bangs. I assume she was falling over. She already had to get stitches because she fell over. Anyways, this morning I found her sleeping on the couch instead of their bedroom. I've been kind of hiding all day in my room, because im afraid that if if I come out, I'll be in the middle of a fight. Also, the gf seems to be in a bad mood. My mom has a dog. I was in my moms bathroom. You have to enter the room, and then enter the bathroom, so you have to go through two doors. My moms dog wanted in the room, so he was whinning. After a while thr gf let him in, and slammed the door. I'm sitting here, and I can just feel a lot of tension. One of my chores is to do yardwork out back, which is fine because i won't be around them. I texted my mom, and told her how I feel, and she said to buck it up and do the chores.

I (F28) am part of a group of girls who meets to play board games and sometimes Switch games on the weekend. One of the girls (F26), who we’ll call Sarah, has been my friend for 5 years. The past 3 years in particular we've become inseparable, and I've considered her to be my best friend. She's very religious, I believe in god but have had some issues with organized religion, and we've discussed our views on this respectfully at length over the years. (This will come in later, and I have absolutely nothing against people who are really into organized religion I just had to take a break for personal reasons.)
She had been dating our mutual friend (who we met around the same time) for about a year, before breaking up with her a month ago pretty suddenly. Her ex (F25), who we’ll call Hana, is in the group of girls who comes over on the weekend. The whole group was surprised by the breakup, as prior to this they had been pretty seriously planning a future wedding and they seemed to have very few issues. Sara told her that she needed to work on herself, and maybe they could get back together in the future but that she wouldn't blame her for moving on.
When I talked to her about it, she said she hasn't been as involved in her church as she would like to be in this relationship and she wanted people in her life who put more pressure on her to go to church. So I tried my best to be more supportive of her, and when she'd ask my opinion on things in life I’d redirect her to her churches stance. She started going to church every Sunday, and I even went with her once to show my support. (But let her know that I was only comfortable with the one time.)
After that, she became obsessed with figuring out her sexuality. (Which I totally get, but the whole process was very strange.) She'd talk to me a lot about the boys at church. She seemed very focused on finding a boy who was hot enough to convince herself that she was sexually attracted to them, or rich enough that she could take it easy but didn't want to sleep with them or let them sleep with anyone else. All the while texting Hana her “self progress” everyday, and getting upset if she perceived Hana’s behaviors as moving on too quickly.
I told her list of requirements in a partner seemed unrealistic. (He had to be solid 9 or 10 physically, wealthy, didn't care if they ever had sex for the rest of their life, and let her do whatever she wanted on their dime.) And most importantly, to me, she wasn't treating Hana fairly. She told Hana that she wasn't going to date at all, and was purely figuring her life out. Meanwhile she had been telling everyone else in the friend group that she didn't want her back, but was just scared no one else would take her.
The comment was made gently, but directly, and I could tell it upset her but she changed the subject immediately.
A few days later, we introduced a new girl to girls night. She was a gem, but had happened to sit next to Hana by chance. The two didn't know each other, and maybe spoke a total of three times one on one. When the event ended, Hana gave her a quick hug and welcomed her to the group before asking Sara if she could walk her to her car. Sara declined passively, and everyone left.
I thought everything went well, but then Sara then called me. She ranted that they were disrespecting her by flirting right in front of her, which was super surprising to me. They hadn't flirted at all in my opinion. When I tried to calm her down, she accused me of trying to set them up. I said I wasn't doing anything of the sort, and she seemed to calm down.
After that she was very distance, and only invited me to spend time with her church friends as opposed to our usual one on one hangouts. I originally didn't think anything of it, but when I was there Sara began to openly discuss LGBT stuff with her church group in reference to both herself and me. This is a church known for opposing LGBT. I panicked (I didn’t know these people), and remarked that obviously we weren't trying to attack their beliefs. They all gave me a harsh look, most of all Sara, and stated that every girl in the group was LGBT. Sara then explained that she had invited me for that reason. I was beyond uncomfortable due to the lack of heads up, and they were all very cold to me after that.
The next day her Ex, Hana, called and told me that she wanted the new girl uninvited from the group. I was surprised, and asked if Sara had asked her to call me about this. She immediately began to dodge the question, and I told her that I couldn't handle Sara’s break up drama anymore. Hana asked what I meant by that, and I asked if Sara had mentioned why she wanted the new girl removed. This caught her off guard, and she realized that she hadn't been given any reasons. I asked if she'd give the new girl another chance, as she hadn't done anything wrong, and she reluctantly agreed.
After that Sara became more cold than ever, and texted me that I wasn't being a good friend. I asked how, and she didn't respond.
I tried meeting her one on one to see how things were going, and she was very distance. She seemed to be leaving her church, and was almost treating me like I was bigoted for asking about it. When a week ago it was her biggest priority. I dropped it, and tried to ask if she was okay overall, and she shrugged it off.
A few days later, she sent me a text that said that I no longer fit into her life, and not to come by her house. She then blocked me everywhere without any reasons. I tried my best to support her in finding herself, but feel like I was punished for being supportive of what she said she wanted last week just to have her decide the opposite by the next time I saw her.
I don't understand what went wrong, and I'm devastated.

I just received my decision letter after an ACE review (post in person C&P) for a migraine claim filed as PACT ACT presumptive which I now realize was wrong…decision pasted below. My migraines started when I was deployed to a TERA and I’m on the burn pit registry but I never was seen for them in service.
Since I am already service connected for tinnitus, so wondering if I should refile for migraine as secondary to tinnitus or appeal this one? —————/

To support a claim for service connection on a direct basis, the evidence must show three things.
First, it must show that you had an injury in military service, or a disease that began in or was made worse during military service, or there was an event in service that caused an injury or disease. Second, it must show that you have a current physical or mental disability, demonstrated by medical evidence. Finally, it must show that there is a relationship between your current disability and an injury, disease or event in military service. activities in service.

by the examiner does not show an association between your claimed disability and in-service

As requested, I am going to share a list of things I did that helped me pass my exam yesterday. Just a heads up, this list is going to be more focused on changes that I made in my personal life I strongly attribute to passing both the SIE and Series 7 on my first try while I only had 2 months to do so. I also did not have a group to study with and I did this on my own. I really wanted to prove to my boss that I deserve to work with him and I’m so glad I succeeded. Let’s get into it…

1. Eating healthy: sounds stupid but it’s necessary. You have to feed your body good food in order to help better prepare.
   
2. Getting off social media: I deleted Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok when I started studying for these exams. I found that I was able to pay attention to my studies for longer periods of time, and I actually don’t miss these apps at all. Life overall is better without them but I think they’re necessary to delete while studying for these exams. I only kept Snapchat, YouTube and Reddit because I didn’t want to be completely cut off from society and friends lol.
   
3. Taking breaks: don’t be afraid to take breaks while studying. There’s no point in trying to wrap your head around a concept if you’re pushing yourself too hard. I would study for about 20 minutes and then I would take a few minutes to chill. I think this technique is great for memorization.
   
4. Study when you feel the best: again, there is no point in pushing yourself too much. You will not be able to memorize concepts if you aren’t feeling your best. Somedays I just was not feeling well and I wouldn’t study for as long as usual. Sleep is also super important.
   
5. Study everyday: I studied everyday for at least 3 hours, most days it was about 5 or 6 hours. I do have the time to be able to do this but my boss gave me 4 weeks to study for this exam so I really had to push it. I increased it to 7 hours everyday during the last week of studying. You have to keep up with memorization. I quit my restaurant job and took a quarter off from school so that I would be able to pursue this, and it was important that I studied as much as possible.
   
6. Really try to nail concepts from the SIE: this applies to people who are getting ready to start studying for the 7, but I noticed that a lot of concepts from the SIE directly applied to what we learn on the 7. It’s important to have a basic understanding of that exam since they go hand in hand.
   
7. Believe in yourself: I’m a strong believer that you are your biggest supporter! This sounds stupid but I know a lot of people struggle with self worth, including myself. You have to be your biggest hype man!
   
8. Relaxing before the exam: this is arguably the most important thing to do. I took my exam on Monday, and last Saturday, I studied for 7 hours and then went to hangout with friends and we had some drinks. I am not promoting alcohol use, but I am promoting finding a way to relax, and that’s how I felt I needed to do it. There is no way in hell you’ll be able to pass this exam if you’re too stressed. I basically cut out alcohol and hanging out with friends while studying for this exam, so it was nice to be able to see them and be with them. It really helped with my nerves. Some people might scold at this idea, but I have no regrets.
   
9. Going with your gut: I can’t lie, I think I guessed on about 30% of the questions on the exam. This exam is EXTREMELY detail oriented, I was shocked. I honestly did not think I was going to pass while taking it. I marked about 10-12 questions for review, and then decided to not change any of my answers and to just go with my gut.
   
10. FINRA has ridiculous protocols: this sounds crazy, but sometimes, the most wild choice is the right choice. When I was taking practice exams, I would always choose answers that seemed like they would be the right answer, and the answer almost always ended up being out of pocket in some way. I cannot exactly describe what I’m talking about, but if you know, you know. Sometimes I would laugh and think to myself, “that answer is silly, but ok”. I kind of applied the same idea when I was taking the actual exam. There are some really crazy questions that will have the weirdest of answers. It’s funny in a way.
    
11. Things to study: OPTIONS!! Everything about options! Nail it down! Regulations and rules as well. Taxes are important too. Realized/unrealized gain/loss and the different strategies to sell stocks (FIFO, LIFO, etc) are important as well.

Basically title. I am 25 and I have no work experience outside of 4ish days at mcdonald's like 4 years ago.
I have depression and anxiety (diagnosed) and i suspect autism and adhd as well. I've been trying to find a way to earn money since i was 13. for 12 years I've struggled just getting more depressed in the process. I've decided i really would rather die than spend decades working for some corporation just to survive.
I live with my mother, but we are technically homeless. we sleep in my great grandmother's living room. our car broke down shortly after moving here and we only have my mom's disability that's around 800 a month to live on, but between bills and little treats to keep us alive we haven't been able to save up much, and I recently got hit with a court issued payment for an old credit card that's now taking up an extra $100 of my mom's money every month.
i don't want to die and leave my mother in this shitty situation alone. she's tried so hard my entire life just for me to not be able to meet expectations. I started college courses in high school but i was too depressed so i dropped out in 10th grade and really just kinda dissociated until graduation thinking I'd end up killing myself before then, so i didn't make any actual plans for life. i ended up accidentally sleeping through my SAT timeslot so i just never applied to any colleges. I wanted to get a working certificate but it was like $600 when i graduated and i had no job and no way of getting one, and my mom was at the time struggling to pay our $350 rent cause she herself was disabled with no disability back then.
I'm pretty creative so for a few years i made money doing whatever i could from home, trying to be patient about the "starting a business takes years" thing, but after about 3 years in the most successful thing i tried, the pandemic started and many people started businesses from home in my niche which basically took away the ability for me to stand out and do numbers that had helped me get that far. i kept trying for another year but sales were pretty much nonexistent and i got burnt out trying to keep up the work with no money.
since then I've kinda just been drifting by in life. after burning out while working at home i tried to get a job at mcdonald's which everyone said was a great starter job, but after a week i was left even more burnt out. I hate being around people and having to speak, ehich was so draining. customers are so vile to fast food workers, the bosses treated us like kids (even the ones that had long graduated high school), I am not good being watched or timed so i kept messing up, my bosses would pressure me to take early breaks and on my last day i didn't get a break at all, and every day after work my legs would hurt so bad I'd just sit and cry. i struggled even walking to the bathroom for a month after i quit, i genuinely thought i had done permanent damage to my legs and i had only worked for 4 days (not including the training which i never even got to finish). it was a nightmare and i never want to do that again.
I know I've listed probably way more information than necessary but I'm so desperate. i don't want to die, but if my options are work the rest of my life or end it early, I'm choosing the latter. but before i do that i just want to get my mom into a more stable situation. my grandmother is 91 and once she dies my mom will be on the streets. i don't want that for her. i just don't see any actual solutions.

Today we return to the namesake of this fic, an actual lesson about animals. This one focuses on Koalas! One of Australia's most recognisable critters. I hope you enjoy.
It's hardly worth mentioning, seeing as I'm an infrequent poster at the best of times, but I'll not have another chapter out for a few weeks due to limited free time and devoting most of my writing time to an upcoming ficnapping. Be sure to look out for that!

Bernard’s energised voice boomed through the air as the classroom's monitor flickered into life, images of this paws lecture topic popping up one after the other until the entire screen was filled with a collage of furry quadrupeds.
Squee! I’ll never get tired of this, it’s all so cool!
As usual the sight of something new stirred immediate discussion, hushed murmurs swelling into vibrant discourse in little more than a heartbeat. Most of the class swiftly huddled together into small herds to bounce ideas around while the rest opted to stick to the solace of their own thoughts as they took in the display.
I’d be quite happy in either situation, though seeing as Sandi had already sunk into deep concentration and Kailo had peeled off to talk with Ennerif and Solenk, it seemed the decision had been made for me on this occasion. Wasting no more time on idle inspection of the people around me, I focused my full attention forward, eager to form first impressions before the lesson began in earnest.
Now then, time to make some educated guesses. What traits does this animal have? I wonder if I’ll get any right this paw?
Professional assumptions went paw-in-paw with the lectures, examining and coming up with hypotheses about the specimens was only natural. Recently however, I’d started to make a little game of it to make things even more interesting than usual. A veritable bonfire of ideas had been set ablaze within me, fueled by my newfound knowledge of Earthen wildlife. Every flash and spark of the flame was a fresh theory I could try to apply to the lectures. It was an invigorating exercise that further stoked my unceasing wonderment.
So far I’d only done this once during the previous class and, to my disappointment, I’d not done too well.
I was right when I guessed that chickens were omnivores, but wrong in my assumption that they could fly. And that red thing on their head, the um… what was it called? The comb! Yes, the comb. I thought that was to attract mates, but it regulates body heat instead. It’s fascinating. Oh! Stars damn it I’m rambling!
I bapped my tail against my leg, the soft thud being just enough to snap me back from my runaway thoughts before I went completely wall-eyed. I was becoming more and more accustomed to getting lost in my own head while remaining conscious of the fact; it was happening so frequently now that it was pretty much impossible not to. Now I was able to pull myself back to the world around me without having to rely on someone else shaking me out of it. Most of the time anyway.
Sandi still keeps an eye on me, and Kailo even decided to help out once without being too snide about it. Anyway where was I? Oh yeah, Koalas.
Glancing at the furred animals, two things immediately stood out. Firstly, their eyes were in a more central position on their face. And second, all the images showed them being on or close to trees. There were other noteworthy observations of course, such as the Koala’s prominent nose and rounded features, but they fell to the wayside as I honed in on these points first.
Hmmm… ok. I already know to discount the idea that they’re predators just from eye position, so let’s get that thought out of here. Maybe omnivorous? Herbivore? Agh no, I can’t just guess that for the sake of guessing, that’s the same problem! Hrm, it’s tough making these assumptions now that everything I thought I knew has been turned on its head.
Nevermind, I’ll focus on the other thing. All the trees make me think they’re arboreal, that seems to be a reasonable assumption. I wonder what else they-
Clearing his throat, Bernard broke my concentration, his call for attention silencing the murmuring conversation and redirecting everyone's focus to the lecturer's podium.
His gaze panned across the room as he waited for everyone to settle, a beaming smile lighting up his face, “As ever I’m delighted to see you all get so into the subject matter from the get go. I’m looking forward to hearing what you were discussing should you wish to share. For now though, how about we get started, hm?”
A chorus of merry bleats rang out from across the audience, ears and tails flicking happily in agreement. Bernard's grin grew in tandem with the class's fervour, clasping his hands together enthusiastically as he launched into the lesson, “Excellent! Then let’s get started.”
The pictures on screen dissolved away until only one remained, enlarging to cover the entire monitor with the fluffy grey face of a Koala peacefully reclining in the crook of a tree.
“Ah, there we are,” Bernard’s baritone timbre drifted through the room as he looked up at the image, his own tone reflecting the relaxed attitude of the animal on screen, “He looks so comfortable doesn’t he? Perfectly at peace with the world, not too surprising considering they sleep almost 20 hours a day. A full paw!”
A wave of beeps and gasps rippled through the herd, punctuated by a single yawn-dressed comment from Rova, “A full paw? Hwuuu… jealous.”
Her drowsy remark elicited several whistling giggles from the herd, Bernard's own jovial chortle joining them as he turned to face her, “Late evening Rova?”
I twisted a little in my seat, panning an eye in Rova’s direction just in time to see her bleary eyes bulge open and her ears shoot up, now intensely aware of the fact she hadn’t been as quiet as she thought she had.
Sitting up abruptly, she hastily tapped down errant tufts of wool that’d flared in surprise as she composed herself, though her nervousness at becoming the centre of the class's attention was still plain for all to hear, “Uh- I um… achem, a little bit yes, um- …sorry. Lokki dragged me out to a movie viewing in the rec centre. It went on pretty late.”
A melodramatic bray from the other side of the room drew everyone's ears away from Rova to the now aghast Lokki, paw splayed across his chest in faux indignation, “Dragged you? Well excuse me for trying to broaden your horizons with human movies. That’ll be the list time I- …Ahaaaa…”
Lokki’s theatrics were cut short by a heavy yawn of his own, a swell of whistling laughter rolling through the herd as vibrant bloom lit up his snout, a sight that elicited a particularly amused bleat from Rova.
Turning away from the duo I looked back at Bernard, pleased to see that he was chuckling along with us. Behaviour like Lokki’s would never have been tolerated in my school and university days but, in stark contrast, Bernard revelled in it, the liveliness of his students fueling his own bombastic style of teaching. It was a pleasant change of pace having a teacher who let us all be ourselves in class; provided we weren’t too disruptive to the lesson plan.
Speaking of which.
His laughter still rumbling through the air, Bernard clapped his hands to pull everyone's focus back to him, “Ok, ok, let’s get back to it then shall we? Rova. Lokki. Hopefully the two of you can stay awake long enough until you can grab yourselves a coffee.”
As the class settled down and the last few giggling beeps petered out, Benard pointed a hand to the screen, “So, the Koala. Let’s start simple shall we? They are herbivorous marsupials native to the eastern and southern coasts of Australia. Easily recognised the world over, they are a well known and beloved symbol of their homeland, along with other animals such as the Kangaroo and the Emu. The former of which you might remember from one of our earlier lectures.”
Indeed I did remember, along with how angry Bernard had gotten after some speh-head had derided the Yotul after he explained how he held specific disdain for such attitudes.
Uuuggghh… I never want to see him angry again. So chilling.
I shook my ears in an effort to dismiss the unpleasant memory, panning my eyes back to the monitor to try and distract myself by inspecting the Koala’s physical appearance once more. Thankfully, by some Star's blessed intervention, Bernard had the exact same idea.
“Koala’s are rather squat in stature, ranging around sixty to eighty-five centimetres in length and weighing little more than fifteen to sixteen kilograms at their full size. As you can see, the fur of this fellow before you is a lovely silvery grey, but their fur can also sport a chocolaty brown hue as well. Arguably the most distinctive part of their appearance is their head, being rather large for their body size and having rounded ears, a large nose, and a pair of small eyes. These are often brown but variations do occur.”
It didn’t slip past my notice that Bernard didn’t bother to point out that the Koala’s eyes were forward facing. I didn’t think he’d simply forgotten, so perhaps he just felt it wasn’t necessary given that he’d already stated it was herbivorous. Either way, no one stuck up a paw or tail to question him.
“Now this will hardly be surprising considering how long they sleep, but Koala’s are largely sedentary and it’s rather easy to see why when you have a look into the contents of their diet.”
With the press of a button the Koala on screen was replaced by images of vibrant green vegetation. Soaring trees and flowering shrubbery weaved together across landscape framed pictures pulled admiring trills from the herd, the diversity of the plant life being shown standing as a reminder that it wasn’t only animal life that flourished on Earth.
After giving everyone the chance to take in the picturesque scenes, Bernard casually hammered that point home, “This is eucalyptus or, more accurately, a choice selection of more than 700 plants belonging to the eucalyptus genus, though the Koala itself favours 30 of them in particular.”
700!? Stars…
Realising that my ears had drooped in my momentary awe, I twisted them back to tune into the lesson, only for them to splay out in shock at the next words to come out of Bernard's mouth.
“The leaves of these plants are the primary food source of the Koala and there are a couple things worth mentioning when talking about these plants. For starters they do not have much nutritional or caloric value, leading to the Koala’s low-energy lifestyle. Additionally, they contain toxic compounds.”
A shiver instantly ran through the herd, ears flicking rapidly in confusion and alarm followed by a few quizzical whispers. It didn’t take long for someone to decide to give a proper voice to the murmuring.
“Excuse me Doctor. Did we hear that right? Their diet is made up of toxic flora?” Vlek’s grumbling incredulity cut through the herd's mutterings with ease. Until Kailo’s recent change of heart, the fifty something rotation old blonde Venlil had been a close second in terms of scepticism. Mercifully his rebuttals had always been relevant questions as opposed to ranting diatribes, so he at least remained on topic if nothing else.
Bernard nodded in confirmation, smiling back at Vlek while absentmindedly twirling the end of his moustache, “You heard me right, they do indeed consume plants that are toxic. Just not to them.”
Any worry or uncertainty still clinging to the herd was swept away by the provision of the glaringly obvious answer, leaving me chuckling inwardly at the oversight.
Ah of course! The plant might be poisonous but they’ll have evolved to deal with that. Stars… I’m so used to expecting the unexpected with Earth that I didn’t even consider the simplest solution.
“I see, thank you Doctor,” Vlek replied, a tinge of interest still audible in his tone, “I assume they’ve developed some adaptation to become immune to the harmful effects?”
The question immediately evoked a smirk from our teacher, but he hurriedly suppressed it while bobbing his head, “They have indeed. There are several factors that aid in their digestion of eucalyptus leaves without succumbing to the plant's baleful properties. The first is a part of the intestinal tract called the cecum. It contains a microbiome that allows the Koala to digest the eucalyptus. Coupled with this is an enzyme in the Koala’s liver that helps them break down the toxins. They are also capable of sniffing out the plants with the least amount of toxins, ensuring that they ingest as little as possible.”
Pausing for a breath Bernard looked back at the screen before turning to face us, another grin curling at the edges of his mouth as he continued with his explanation, “This is mostly for adult Koala’s, because while their young also possess these same adaptations, they don’t just go straight to munching through foliage right after being born. No, they need a little help making that jump and getting a stomach full of all that good gut bacteria. It’s nothing bad, but those of a sensitive stomach may wish to prepare themselves for this next part.”
Bernard’s assurances did little to assuage the concern that his warning had foisted upon us. Having been exposed to so much of the weirdness Earth had to offer everyone always ended up on edge whenever Bernard gave advice like this, even if he did say it in jest.
What strange nonsense thing do Koala pups do then? Judging by the way he’s acting it probably isn’t something as simple as drinking milk from the mother. Hmmm…
“So,” Bernard began, snapping us from our pensive stupor, “Young Koala’s, known as joeys, have a gestation period of thirty-five days on average, which is approximately forty-two paws. Once born they travel from the birth canal to a pouch in their mother so that they can continue to develop and grow. In the pouch the joey finds and latches onto one of two teats and these provide the newborn with a steady stream of nourishing milk. It spends the next six to seven months growing in the pouch, its eyes, ears, and fur all developing as time goes on.”
Okay, interesting. But this is exactly how I thought it’d go. What’s different?
The unexpected normalcy of the Koala’s birth and growth cycle had calmed everyone's nerves, only to be replaced with an air of suspicion as we waited with rapt attention for Bernard to drop the other claw and upend our expectations like he always did.
Not wanting to keep us in further suspense he forged ahead, the tempo of his voice picking up as the smile started to crease his face once more, “Now to make the switch from milk to eucalyptus, the mother also feeds the joey a substance called pap. It comes from the cecum I mentioned earlier, and contains all the gut bacteria required to help the young Koala in making the switch to eucalyptus.”
He stopped and looked around, searching us for a reaction to what I felt was a rather bland statement of fact. What was it he was saying without actually saying? Koala pups drink milk to mature and then include this pap substance so that they can start eating plants. I don’t see what-

I blinked.
I blinked again, the intrusive interruption scouring my brain clean of any other thought bar the one it’d just implanted itself in the forefront of my mind.
Oh stars. They-
“They eat their own poop!?”
The shocked bleat shattered the peace of the room to reveal that most if not all of us had come to the same tail curling conclusion. As the hall filled with unrestrained vocalisations of disgust, an ‘Ugh’ over here and a ‘Blegh’ over there, Bernard’s own bellowing laughter joined the throng of voices.
“Ha! Everytime! Each and every time. Clearly it doesn’t matter if my students are Human or Venlil. Whenever someone learns about the Koala’s dietary development the reaction is the same!”
Pleased with himself beyond reason, Bernard chuckled away while the rest of us grappled with this ghastly reality. While there were plenty of animals that feasted on things that ranged from simply unappealing all the way to the stomach churningly grotesque, I’d never heard of an animal that actively consumed the excrement of its own species. Benefits aside, the prospect of having to do that to survive to adulthood sent a shiver of revulsion down my spine.
Ewww… Stars, I hope I forget this feeling by 2nd meal. They’re serving sturen and magamroot stew later. I was really looking forward to it.
With the herds mood beginning to temper Bernard tapped the podiums controls, removing the verdant collage of eucalyptus to display several similar yet distinct environments, still chortling merrily to himself in the process, “Ok then, with that little foray into their diet complete, why don’t we look at their habitat in more detail? As you might imagine given their diet and arboreal nature, Koala’s live in forested regions, and can be found in tropical and temperate zones. About a century ago they were classed as a vulnerable species, however efforts were made to turn this around and increase their numbers. Sadly the largest factor in their decline was human activity, as the fertile lands that gave rise to their bountiful forests were coveted farm land for our settlements.”
It was strange to hear Bernard so matter of factly admit to humanity's negative impacts on other species. He’d alluded to such things in the past but always with an air of caution, carefully pawing the line between honestly answering a question while not painting humanity as uncaring and destructive. AKA, the ‘predators’ we’d all initially expected them to be.
Perhaps his comfort in making such admissions was a reflection of the class's comfort with him, for no one so much as batted an ear. Even Kailo, who I would’ve expected to jump at the chance to use this as a prime example of predatory danger, only flicked an ear in stern yet silent concern.
A cough from Bernard drew my attention back, a new picture on screen that showed a forest from a bird's-eye view. Drawn across the image were around a dozen ringed areas, some bordering one another while others overlapped to some degree. It took me a moment, but I soon recognised that what I was looking at was a map, the rings representing what I assumed to be territories. And it didn’t take much effort to guess who each one belonged to.
“From habitats we move onto behaviours, so let’s start with territories. Koala’s are solitary animals. Yes, despite being herbivores. Considering they’re only awake for roughly four hours of the day I can hardly blame them. Lots to do and not a lot of time to do it. Jokes aside, once they mature they are quite independent, carving out a little slice of land for themselves, as displayed in this example, called a Home Range. That is not to say they go it alone and leave everything else behind however. Rather, as shown in the map behind me, they live in their own space while still being part of a larger social group.”
With another press of his pad the picture was updated to show one of two symbols in each segment, along with a key to the side of the map displayed in helpful Venlang. A quick glance told me that the symbols were representing whether the territory belonged to a male or female of the species.
“As you can see there is quite a bit of overlap between different Koala’s territories. It is in these areas that most of the socialising takes place between neighbours. The trees in these locations represent the few areas where intrusion across territories is acceptable for the sake of social interaction. Outside of that the Koala’s stick to their own territories for the most part, with the exceptions of Koala’s who are passing through, attempting to become part of the social group themselves, or dominant males who sometimes go off into another Koala’s range. But how do they know where one range begins and another range ends you might ask? Well, this brings us onto the next part of the lecture. How do Koala’s communicate?”
Wiping away the map from the monitor, Bernard loaded up a video of a Koala sitting in a tree and pressed play. Head held high, the Koala’s body shook as it belted out a reverberating call into the wilderness that could only be described as a garbled combination of a car engine failing to turn over mixed with the hiccups of someone with a particularly sore throat.
That’s how they sound? Oof that must be rough on the lungs.
I clearly wasn’t the only one to share such a thought, because I clocked Sandi tracing a paw along her neck as the noise went on, ears fluttering in discomfort at the noise.
Bernard himself cleared his own throat as the video came to an end, minimising it and replacing it with another image of a tree with a Koala rubbing up against the bark, “I think they’ve got me beat on who’s got the deeper voice!”
His joke garnered several amused beeps, a rare reaction that caused a beaming smile to shine across his face at lighting speed, “Oh you’re too kind. I’ll be here all week. Now where were we? Oh yes! Communication. As you’ve just heard, Koala’s are capable of loud low pitched bellows that can carry over vast distances. These express everything from ‘Hello I’m over here’ to ‘This is my turf, stay away’. Bellowing is more common in the males than the females, opting for shouting matches as opposed to outright fights when it comes to asserting dominance. Other vocal expressions include grunts, wails, and snarls if they’re acting particularly angsty. Mother and joey pairs also communicate through gentle clicking, squeaking, and murmuring sounds. And there’s one more thing worth mentioning. Something they have in common with Humans and Venlil when it comes to emoting.”
Really? They do something we do?
Curious, I pressed myself against the desk, straining as close as I could to once more scrutinise the Koala’s features. Not a lot stood out to me at first, the grey marsupial not sharing many similarities with a Venlil that I could identify.
Ok think. We show emotion with our ears, tails, and our wool on occasion. They don’t have tails so it’s obviously not that. Wool standing on end is more a reaction than a conscious expression. So it must be the ears then.
To my quiet satisfaction, my hunch was soon validated by Bernard, “As well as their vocalisations, Koala’s are very emotive through their facial features. Just like humans, they use their mouths and lips to show how they feel, but these tend more towards the aggressive side of the scale than what you might see on a human. Regarding yourselves however, Koala’s utilise their ears in tandem with their mouth movements when showing strong emotion.”
I was delighted to hear that my assumption was correct, a little happy flick twisting out through my tail and bapping against my chair with a muted thump against the plastic.
Hehe yes! Got one right!
“Now then, we are getting close to lunchtime so I’ll finish this segment off with something I think you’ll find particularly interesting. Diplomacy.”
Perplexed mutterings followed in the wake of the bizarre inclusion to the lecture, my own thoughts being dominated by bewilderment as I tried and failed to make sense of how the two could possibly be related.
Why would Koala’s, or any animal for that matter, be linked to diplomacy? Hmmm...
I could understand dispatching exterminators to deal with a predator issue as a show of goodwill, that at least includes animals, but Humans aren’t like that so I think I can safely scratch that off the list.
Maybe the humans who live in that region benefited from Koala’s in some way. Could they have gotten something from them? But what?
Hopefully not what the pups get from their mothers.
Agh no! Begone awful intrusive thoughts. Blegh! I don’t need that in my head.
As I wrestled with the short-lived revulsion inflicted upon me by my Star's damned subconscious, Bernard placed a new image on screen, one that was decidedly different from all that had preceded it.
On screen were more than a couple dozen pictures of humans. Some were pictured alone while others congregated in large groups while cameras surrounded them from all angles. Across all the images, I noted two common themes. First of all, a solid majority of the humans were wearing formal wear similar to what I’d seen worn by UN representatives on TV. If the gaggle of journalists in the background of the photos didn’t already confirm my suspicions, then it was this similarity which made me conclude they were all people of some importance. Likely politicians judging from context clues.
Secondly, each of the individuals was interacting with a Koala in some form. Some cradled one against their chests while others were feeding it eucalyptus leaves or pellets of some kind. One of the assumed politicians had become an impromptu bed for a snoozing bundle of fur, a gleeful smile spread across their face as they lovingly gazed down at the sleeping Koala in their lap.
As I continued to stare at the assorted photos something clicked into place, a sudden spark flickering into life. A burgeoning light of comprehension that flared and swelled with every wide-eyed breath I took. Some things still escaped me, things I hoped would soon be explained, but in staring at all of the humans happy smiling faces, I was struck with an instant of pure understanding.
If someone, say a Nevok for instance, offered to gift me a creature that was common to them but which might exotic and breathtaking to a Venlil, how could my feelings not be swayed? How could I walk away from that encounter and not have grown closer to them as a result?
“Koala diplomacy,” Bernard waved his hand up at the monitor, a slight reverence in his tone, “My favourite kind of soft power diplomacy. Where political leaders take photo ops with Koala’s and, on occasion, the Australian government loans Koala’s to other nations for a time to bolster positive relations. It certainly helps that Koala’s are a beloved animal worldwide, drawing large crowds and revenue for countries fortunate enough to host the adorable critters.”
The truly alien concept predictably sparked instant discussion in the herd, two polar opposite schools of thought swiftly cementing themselves as the most popular opinions. Simultaneously, I heard one voice trill excitedly while another scoffed at what they clearly saw as a ridiculous and offensive notion.
“Squee! That’d be so cool! I’d love to get the chance to see a Liri from Coila. Remember the Rainbow Boa? Think of that shimmering effect and colour but put it on a bird! Ah! I’ve only heard their song on video. It’d be a treat to hear it in person!”
Ooo! I’ve read about them! I’d love to get up close to one.
“Loaning. As if animals are property to be hoarded and traded? Pugh! Another predatory trait the humans don’t want to acknowledge for what it is.”
Ugh, typical. Jump right to the worst possible option.
However, despite my dismissal of their disparaging fumings, an uncomfortable thought pressed upon my mind. While it was plain to see how much humans cared for the Koala, it didn’t change the fact that humans did keep animals as property just as the scornful herd member had said.
This begged a rather important, disquieting question. Aside from keeping some animals as cattle, a stomach tightening minefield I had no desire to step a claw onto right now, how else did humans keep other creatures. And how did they treat them?
Before I was fully conscious of doing it my paw was in the air, the question primed on my tongue.
Noticing my elevated paw Bernard pointed at me, smiling warmly, “Yes Rysel? What’s on your mind?”
Sorry Bernard. I hope this one’s not too awkward for you to answer.
Flicking my ear in appreciation, and waiting for everyone to settle enough so that I could be heard, I voiced my concerns as neutrally as possible, “Thank you Doctor. I uh, just had a thought. We know that humans keep certain animals for… particular reasons, and we know why. From how you’ve spoken about Koala’s I think it's fair to say that the same cannot be said for them. However, this makes me wonder, what other reasons do humans have for keeping animals and how do you treat them?”
A flash of surprise blinked across Bernard's eyes but vanished so quickly that it felt like I’d imagined it. Had he not expected such a question? Maybe he was just shocked that it’d been me who’d ended up asking it?
Stars, am I so predictable that no one expects me to ask difficult questions?
Unfortunately, a quick glance at my deskmates seemed to prove that to be the case, as both Sandi and Kailo were looking at me with differing degrees of astonishment flapping in their ears.
Well speh.
“A very good point Rysel, certainly one that’s worth raising. Yet another example of you all anticipating what I have to say before I can bring it up myself.” Bernard tapped the podium, switching off the monitor before returning his focus to me, “We won’t be needing that. I’ve nothing prepared that I can show you and we’re heading to lunch in a few minutes anyway. Still, that’s plenty of time to give you a bit of an answer.”
A bit? What does he mean just a bit?
Made even more curious by Bernard's preempted admission that he wasn’t going to fully answer my query, I dialled both my ears on him, fixing him with an inquisitive stare as he started to explain with a tone that was noticeably more nonchalant than any of his previous explanations.
“So, animals in captivity for reasons other than what you already know. Honestly I would love to delve into other reasons regarding why we keep animals. However, I have a lesson plan in the works that I hope to share with you all in the not too distant future. Some of it touches upon this very topic and I’d quite like to bundle it all together. That said, I can tell you how animals in captivity are treated. In short, the answer is very well. There are a mountain of laws both on private and public interests that govern the standards and ethical treatment of animals, and breaches of these laws are quite severe even for relatively minor infractions.”
While I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed by the vague answer to what was really the bulk of my question, I was at least satisfied by Bernard’s assurances that animals in captivity, such as the Koala, were well looked after. Considering the barely subdued grumbling coming from some corners of the audience it was clear that several of the herd didn’t believe Bernard outright, but I trusted him to be honest. Additionally, the mention of an upcoming lecture focused on humans keeping animals caused quite the buzz.
I felt a mix of excitement and trepidation at exploring the topic further. He’d pretty much confirmed we wouldn’t be talking about cattle farms, for which I was relieved, but that still left a huge amount of uncertainty in what was to come.
Humans keeping animals as cattle was a forgone conclusion. As horrifying as that reality was, it was one I could understand from a detached and strictly clinical point of view. Being predators they ate meat and therefore they kept cattle. But the concept of keeping animals for any other reason baffled me.
What could be the purpose? The diplomacy thing makes sense now that I have context, but what other reasons could they have.
The class's discussions were interrupted by the recognisable ring of the break bell, the shift in attention eliciting a change in conversation from confused hypotheses to peppy conversation on how everyone was planning to spend their break and what they had in mind for 2nd meal.
“Well I can see everyone’s excited for lunch, and who am I to disappoint,” chuckling Bernard waved us all up from our seats, pocketing his pad from the podium and heading to open the classroom door for us, “Enjoy your break, get a good rest along with a hearty meal, and I’ll see you all back here at the usual time.”
As everyone else filed out I stayed behind, waving at Sandi and Kailo as they left, and pawing over to Bernard once he and I were the only ones left in the room.
Ears folded down and with an apologetic tinge in my voice I greeted him as I sidled up to him, “Hey Bernard, I uh… sorry if that last question was unexpected.”
Chortling in reply, Bernard waved a hand through the air in a sign I’d come to understand meant ‘not a problem’.
“No need to apologise Rysel. It was a good question and most certainly not a problem.”
Heh, called it.
I sighed, allowing tension I didn’t realise I’d been holding to relax itself from my shoulders, “Phew, that’s a relief. I’m glad. I’m curious to hear what this new lesson is you’ve got in store for us by the way.”
Bernard wagged a finger at me, throwing up his eyebrows in mock amazement, “Oh are you now? Well I’m afraid you’ll have to remain curious for the time being. It’s going to be quite the surprise if all goes to plan. But…”
He trailed off, glancing at me before looking to the door like he was making sure no one else was around.
Wait, is he going to tell me? Oh please yes let me know now!
Stopping myself from jumping on the spot in excited anticipation, and trying my damndest to stop my tail from wagging in equal measure, I stared up at Bernard as he stewed in his thoughts before turning back to face me.
“I can’t tell you the specifics, but I’m working with Alejandro and Tolim to get something together. A trip that’s not a trip as it were. And when it happens, I’m going to need a few of the more accepting members of the class to lend me a hand. I’m hoping you and a couple others will be able to help with that?”
A trip that’s not a trip? What does that mean? Agh who cares about that right now! Bernard’s relying on me to help out!
Still trying not to keep myself from bouncing around with pup like glee I swished my tail and nodded my head in joint agreement, happy to help with whatever Bernard had in store for us, “Of course! Anything you need I’ll be there to lend a paw. You can count on me!”
A broad warm smile lit up Bernard's face, a hand patting me on the shoulder in appreciation, “Thank you Rysel. I knew I could rely on you but it still warms my heart to hear it. And, as thanks for this and for the many times you’ve shown your support, the surprise includes a little something special I think you’d appreciate the most.”
If my earlier enthusiasm had been at a nine, then the implication of a supposed gift sent it rocketing all the way to a hundred in a heartbeat.
“Wait… WHAT!? What do you mean? What are you doing?”
As impossible as it seemed, Bernard's grin grew even wider as I almost lost myself in wool shaking exhilaration, “Call it my own form of Koala diplomacy. But I’m afraid that’s all I can say for now. Wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise even for you!”
“Oh you ass!” Whistling jovially I bapped my tail against Bernard’s leg in fake indignation, evoking a barking bellowing laugh from the man himself.
Still laughing, the two of us departed the class and made for the canteen, my rumbling stomach leading me on while my mind spun with fantastical thoughts as to what Bernard had prepared for us.
And what specifically he had in store for me.

My family and I would be in Paris from 28th May to 31st May. It's our first time so we do wanna do the kinda basic touristy things but obviously open to other experiences as well! Since it's a huge time difference for us the first day is probably going to be getting to the hotel, unpacking and sleeping, so as to not ruin our entire 18 day trip. I have spent hours scrolling this subreddit so I do have a general idea about stuff. Currently some things on my list are- Versailles, Sainte Chapelle, Montmartre, Eiffel tower, Jardin de Luxembourg, the Louvre and musse d'Orsay. Please suggest how one might go about doing most of them(probably need to drop some things I know) and any other attraction that might be worth our time. I know Versailles might take up the whole day but maybe we could squeeze in smth in the evening that day? Also if you guys have recommendations about thrift stores and places to eat that would be really helpful :) Thanks a lot !

So, Parasect was kind of sad. Its best metagame by far was Gen 1 ZU, and it has basically never been relevant since. Poor guy. Let's see if the other gen 1 two-stage bug will do better.

Venomoth has similarly low stats to Parasect, but replaces access to overpowered move Spore with access to overpowered move Quiver Dance, along with a MUCH better defensive typing in Bug/Poison. I admittedly have never used Venomoth, but it surely has to be better than Parasect.

Gen 1 NU: Venomoth is a Poison-type in Generation 1, which is never a good thing to be. OU and UU were ever out of reach for this guy, but it established for itself a strong niche in RBY NU as a solid Double Powder user with a good speed tier and an unusual typing. Its low offenses mean its utility outside of this is limited, but given how important Sleep and Paralysis are in Generation 1, that's more or less enough to make it viable here on its own. Or, at least, it was. Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, and Venusaur have come to NU, and all of these bring something to the table that Venomoth doesn't, and I wouldn't be surprised if Venomoth falls into lower - however Venomoth does still bring to the table being FASTER than any of these sleepers, so it brings something even with its lack of offensive presence. The previous VR ranks Venomoth at A rank, but it can't truly be known where it stands now.

Gen 2 PU: Ah yes, a fairly weak bug/poison type. Let's nerf its special bulk. Game Freak, why do you hate bugs so much? Well, it's certainly not all bad - Psychic has been hugely nerfed, and Fighting has been majorly buffed. Venomoth takes almost no damage from Fighting moves and carries Psychic to have relevant Fighting-types like Hitmontop (formerly Hitmonchan, but it has since been banned.) In fact, it's arguably one of the strongest threats in this low tier with its sheer versatility in utility and access to weird moves like Reflect, Sludge Bomb, and Giga Drain to help cement it as a strong Mon in this low tier. The current VR lists it as A+ rank, but with it no longer fearing Body Slam paralysis from Hitmonchan, it might be even better. The new Steel type doesn't exist in GSC PU at all.

Gen 3 NU: Generation 3 has come and blessed Venomoth with its less well known ability, Shield Dust. With access to Baton Pass for pivoting and continued access to Sleep Powder, along with its continued good-speed-for-the-low-tiers as we've yet to enter the era of speed creep, Venomoth cements its role as a dedicated lead, to sleep a relevant threat, substitute, and Baton Pass the substitute to another Pokemon. In terms of power, there's not much, although Psychic and Sludge Bomb can hit some relevant mons, occasionally. Its main niche is offensive teams that really appreciate the momentum Venomoth brings to the table. The current VR ranks Venomoth as B rank.

Gen 4 NU: Generation 4 is when Venomoth began to get its traits considered iconic to the Mon in modern generations, with the ability Tinted Lens to no longer care about resisted moves, the physical/special split giving it better use of its stabs, and the powerful Bug Buzz supplanting Psychic as its main offensive move. U-Turn allows it to pivot while dealing chip damage, Toxic Spikes gives it an interesting new hazard, Roost gives reliable recovery, Choice Specs access along with its new Tinted Lens makes it difficult to switch into...overall, Venomoth is eating decently well in DPP NU, even with how limited information about this tier is. The VR currently places Venomoth in A- rank, an improvement from last gen.

Gen 5 UU (RUBL): And here is where Venomoth got its real claim to fame - in an effort to buff the Bug Type, Game Freak gave some special Bugs access to Quiver Dance, the best set-up move in the game, boosting its speed, special defense, and special attack all at once - and with Venomoth's speed no longer being up to par on its own, that boost really helps it. Almost too much, as it rose from NU and got itself banned from RU for being overcentralizing to an absurd degree, with Quiver Dance and Tinted Lens being almost unstoppable. Despite not being officially UU by usage, it's actually pretty solid here, with bulky Quiver Dance sets pulling off the UU version of infamous brute Volcarona's nonsense, with the extra bonus of Sleep not being banned in UU allowing it to continue to use Sleep Powder to give it more comfortable setup opportunities. Being weak to Stealth Rock is a bit of a bummer for it, but it still functions. Even with Baton Pass's banning, Venomoth continues to be very solid in the tier, with the official VR ranking Venomoth at B rank.

Gen 6 UU (RUBL): Venomoth saw a little bit of a dip in viability here, albeit getting banned from RU the same way it did in BW. Tinted Lens actually allows Venomoth to run a mono-attacking set, with Bug Buzz as its only attacking move due to how few things double-resist Bug, and Roost keeping itself healthy alongside Sleep Powder and/or Substitute to set up. This along with its bread and butter quiver dance setup set continues to allow Venomoth to work its magic, albeit being weak to Stealth Rock continues to be an issue for it, as it often can't switch in multiple times. The current VR ranks Venomoth at B- rank.

Gen 7 UU (RUBL): A third RUBL placement. They keep trying this guy in RU, and it keeps not working out for RU. Unfortunately, it didn't pull off a trifecta of being a technically-RUBL-pokemon-still-good-in-UU three gens in a row. Z-moves make Venomoth's bread and butter setup sets more difficult to pull off, even if it can use the z-moves effectively itself. Don't get me wrong, it can still sweep given the right support, but given how the best pokemon in the tier is Scizor, which can also pull off setup sweeps, along with competition from better-statted mons like Nihilego, there just isn't much reason to use Venomoth in SM UU. The current VR ranks Venomoth at C rank, and BW UU will be excluded from the rankings.

With Gen 8 excluded by default due to dexit, Venomoth has six tiers for us to look at and - I'm going to be honest, I don't actually think there's a clear winner. It's not every day a BL-type pokemon sees play in the actual tier it's legal in, and it's nice that Venomoth's pulled it off twice. But let's ask again - what do you think Venomoth's best metagame is, and if there's anything I overlooked or failed to note, please comment!

So a few weeks ago at 2:47 PM, I had an ESL teachebusiness consultant from Ukraine reach out to me on LinkedIn who told me that the technical University in Kyiv, Ukraine where she was working at had a vacancy for a remote ESL teaching position that they needed to be filled. She sent me a link to the university where she worked at, along with a PDF listing the details of the job description. I'm unemployed.
My main concerns that I encountered with this consultant was that she wouldn't respond to my messages for several days at a time and lose interest in communicating with me as soon as I replied. Was I not replying fast enough to her messages? Like I'm frustrated that this consultant offered a job interview to me despite knowing the 10 hour time zone difference between us and how she sounded very urgent as if she needed the job filled asap, only to ghost me.
My background is a bachelor's degree in Information Management and 6 months of teaching ESL in South Korea with 2 years of working at a call center and work as a tutor.
I immediately responded to her one minute later at 2:48 pm and I told her "thank you. Yes, I am interested in this position." After spending 5 minutes editing my resume, I sent her a copy of my resume. However, she didn't respond to my message on LinkedIn or my email until 8 days later.
8 days later, she sent another message on LinkedIn and email saying "Hi OP! If you're still interested in the opportunity, I'd love to invite you to a job interview with our company. Could you provide me with several available time slots."
I responded 4 minutes later saying "Yes, I am available from 8AM to 10 PM as I live in the Pacific Standard Time (PST). However, I have a very flexible schedule so I can change my schedule if need be."
The consultant responded one minute later "Thank you, I'm thinking about which time slot to offer as we have 10 hour time difference.
I responded 1 minute later saying that it would be best to continue this conversation early in the morning as at the time she was messaging me it was 1: 24 AM in my time zone (pacific standard time) and that I needed to get some sleep. She didn't respond to my message, as all she did was send me a "thumbs up" emoji to my message.
I didn't get a follow up message the following morning, so 4 days later, I sent a follow up message saying "good day. I am following up about the time slot for the interview that we discussed last week."
The last message that the consultant sent me was "Hi OP! Unfortunately we have to stop the cooperation. Due to big difference in time, we can barely offer students. Thank you for your time."
She sent a final email saying "Hi OP! Your candidacy won't be considered further for this position. To keep in touch, I would offer you to join our teacher's club where we post teacher resources and material weekly."
I wrote an email and LinkedIn message saying "Thank you for letting me know. Yes, I am interested in joining the teacher's club."
However, she never sent me a follow up email about the teacher's club. Was this a scam? Would it be worth it to have joined the teacher's club?
So if she knew that the time zone differences was going to be a problem, then why did she even bother to reach out to me on LinkedIn and email to offer me an interview for the remote job in the first place? And why would she stop messaging me as soon as I immediately replied to her message?
Was I not responding fast enough?
Seems like she wasted both of our times. Cana anyone give me feedback as to what I did wrong or why this consultant did this?

I have zero experience doing any type of coding and have been googling how to write a short script to send me a text message whenever a stock price is within 1/2 percent of a low range and 1/2 percent of a high range, so i know to sell when it gets to the high range and buy back at the lower range.
It is not working, any tips? I've tested that twilio sends an alert to my phone but not getting any alerts otherwise.

But! Don't spend until you're ready. Invictus Launch Week (or fortnight as it happens) is currently happening, which means the game is fully and entirely free to try out until the 29th of May. The full details are over on the ILW mini site, but the short of the long is: If you are wanting to try out the game, always do that first, before paying. It also shows the game at its roughest (because of the influx of new people), so if you can deal with how the game runs then, you'll be ok when it runs better. Invictus Launch Week is a now two week long celebration of all the military focused ships in the game (nominally at least), and not only will get have an Avenger Titan (the wonderful space penguin) to fly around with for the duration of the event, but you can get a free short-term rental of a whole pile of ships, by going to the Bevic Convention Center in Area 18 on the planet of ArcCorp in game and pick from any of the ships that are on the daily list, which then will become just as though it was your own ship, for 48 hours. If you need guidance, just ask in global chat in game, someone should be able to help you out (though remember, many will be new, just like yourself, be patient and don't be that gamer). A fun little detail is, too, that if you attend the convention in-game at least three different days (that is, as the game counts it - they roll over 1600 UTC, so keep that in mind), you will get both a badge over on Spectrum (CIG's bespoke communications platform, with both forums and chat), and a Medivac Beacon, which is a hand gadget that you can use for, well, making yourself known as either in need of or being a supplier of medical assistance when out and about.
What Do?
If you do decide to pledge now, however: As a new player, you will likely want to hop on and actually do the tutorial that has (finally) been added. It's a fairly short one, but it'll get you familiar with the basics of the game (on-foot navigation, interaction, flight controls, that sort of stuff), and you even get a set of armour and a bit of cash at the end of it. In short, simple, but worth your time. You can also use the Guide system, which you can find over on Spectrum once you've signed up: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/guide - sometimes there's little bonuses for doing that as well, but it's always useful, as it's a real person, who plays the game, who is there to help you work out how to do things in the game.
For the moment, the servers seem to be pretty happy, but as the game is still in development, there's going to be bugs, sometimes light, sometimes extreme. So while the general gameplay is decently smooth, of course the old "it's an alpha" always applies, and you should always treat this game as one to make sure your expectations are at the correct level for jankiness. That said, you just might be able to have some outright gameplay type fun out in the big sandbox that is out little star system of Stanton.
In addition to Invictus Launch Week itself (and DefenseCon, the Drake "we are not down with the UEE" counterpart to ILW - lore stuff ;) ), the game is also currently playing host to a huge new chain of missions, which can arguably be done solo (according to some), but which are outright amazing with other people. What Game Package To Get
Most importantly, when picking what to get: Anything called a "starter pack" will get you in the game, and spending more doesn't equal a better ship. Specifically, don't get something called a Standalone Ship, as that will not include game access. It says as much on the store, but there is a lot of text, so it bears pointing out here.
Right now, one of the two largest sales of the year is going on, which means there is a sale on two specific starter packs as well, and either of the two will do you very well as a starter: The Aurora MR Invictus Starter Pack is 10% off the usual price, and the Avenger Titan Invictus Starter Pack is a full 25% off, which lands it as an absolutely amazing value for the cash. Both of these come with a nifty paint as well, as well as a bit of extra starting cash, and longer insurance than the default (though do note, insurance currently doesn't matter, that's going to be more a thing later on, though CIG's word on the topic is also that you'd never completely lose anything you spent cash money on).

If you want the cheapest option to get the game, forever, the Aurora pack should be your pick. There’s a lot of smart people on this sub that have the ability to put into words what I could not for most of my life. I’m fascinated reading the SCT symptoms that are in alignment with my own. Finding a cause (well.. cure actually) is what we’re all here for, and many great theories have been suggested. Based on my reading here I wanted to piece together what I’ve learned from others about what may be causing SCT.
Causes that I’ve seen mentioned here include:

• Gut health. From food intolerances to taking antibiotics for ear infections as children. There’s a huge number of possibilities here that affect brain chemistry and cognition. This also leads to..
• Inflammation/neuroinflammation. Many supplements and probiotics have been recommended here with mixed results. It does seem that no one supplement alone alleviates SCT for extended time or without major side effects.
• Deficiencies. There’s too many to list but Vitamin D, magnesium, B vitamins, zinc are mentioned regularly by posters here. Vitamin D interestingly has had discussions on results from direct sunlight as well as taking vitamin.
• Sleep. Sleep apnea and sleep studies have been discussed. Screen breaks, deviated septum, diet/weight loss are the normal causes it seems.
• Eye/ vision. Visual exercises have been discussed to have some positive benefits. Binocular vision/weak eye muscles has been mentioned.
• Posture. Tech neck discussed as reducing oxygen levels to the brain and causing sct “headache”.
• Cortisol and Thyroid levels . Discussed quite a bit here. Explanation for fatigue and other sct symptoms.
• Past childhood trauma. A bit hesitant to include this one because the posts don’t elaborate on SCT progress through therapy, medicine, etc. It’s more for possible common themes with others here. -Neurotransmitter imbalance. Possibly caused by deficiencies, digestive issues, stress inflammation, and other factors.

Commonalities with other issues/disorders:

• ADHD inattentive type - talked about a lot and often the accepted medical diagnosis. Stimulants, straterra are common treatments.
• Dyslexia- has a broad meaning these days and many overlaps with SCT
• Auditory processing disorder. Similar to dyslexia, but specific to only auditory.
• Anxiety and depression. Some controversy on whether depression/anxiety is the cause or if it’s the other way around.
• Chronic fatigue syndrome- lack of energy/ motivation talked about often.
• Autism- common notion here is that SCT is NOT autism but seems to share many similarities. -Schizoid personality disorder, specifically for avolition and anhedonia
