2015.12.05 13:44 /r/Breatharianism - you can totally live on sunlight, man

Breatharianism is the [false] idea that you can live without eating or drinking, on things like sunlight and air. It's actually not possible. You know what they say, 'Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set him on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.' Breatharian ideas have led to a lot of deaths and you should not be lured into trying this dangerous diet and lifestyle.

2024.05.21 19:37 Prestigious-Chair23 Any good and friendly doctors familiar with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD)? KL and Selangor area + huge rant about medical negligent and gaslighting

TL;DR: ranting about my experience with clinicians + needing help with finding better doctors or better medical path (preferably affordable)
Hello fellas, I'm 22F university student currently having severe pain (joint, muscle, fatigue, migraine, etc) and it has been affecting my university life that I couldn't do my assignments as my wrists/hands/forearms constantly in pain, nor could I properly walk to class without pain in my soles/ankles/knees. I had looked around and even get suggestions from friends and they say I should try looking into HSD and definitely get this checked in general.
Unfortunately, there's little to no information about HSD in Malaysia, nor are there any list I could find of docs/specialists who qualify in HSD.
I've tried my luck with usual clinic/GP in hope that I could try get referrals to rheumotologist/genetist/specialist for my complications but bear no result and was instead traumatized.
First clinic in Wangsa Maju, he outright look away when I tried explaining my symptoms and how it's affecting me, and instead say it's just "anxiety" (this is coupled by the fact that I also could only come with my unsupportive dad who thinks my symptoms are "normal" and that I'm just stressed, and he took my dad's words more than me), the doctor even laughed at my symptoms.
So my dad angrily(towards me) drove me to a different clinic in Gombak seeing that I was extremely upset and cried due to how dismissive and rude the doctor was.
Second clinic in Gombak, at the very least he took my blood for testing, but was accompanied with "Kalau darah awak normal jangan sedih pulak, yer?" and repeated it 3 times so I "understand" in very condescending tone. This is definitely insinuating that I came here because I want to be sick soooo bad. He even lectured me about not to "tick tick everything in google" and said I should just ignore those pain so the pain stop bothering me... Which is literally crazy. How am I supposed to ignore when it's affecting my life especially with assignments? He also told me to never listen to my concerned friends because they're "enabling" me to get sick.
I also have to physically force myself in uni as well, as I live in fourth floor and the cafe and classes are so far apart. Being in art course is another killer as I'm forced to exhaust my wrists and hands. Unfortunately these pains do not appear Suddenly, I've been dealing with muscle and joint pain ever since primary, but my parents aren't concerned about it especially when you can just put minyak on them and call it a day. Even going to doctors in the past would just be met with "you're probably just stressed" or "maybe you have a bit of flu".
What's silly is that, the second GP also told me to just "take an hour of your day to walk and get some sun", when I literally told him in the beginning that I have problems with walking and standing in general (can't even last 5 minutes without my calf sizzle and tingles and my hips feel squashed + common ankle injury). Plus I'm already walking 4h+ in university in general and an hour of that is being in the hot sun. I also told him I'm looking to try out compression socks and he outright denied me using any aid since "you can just walk and exercise".
But my rant is over, I'm looking if someone could point me out on the right direction to get help with my health.
Unfortunately I'm also well aware that I probably need to book with private professionals for this to really get taken seriously, however I'm only a student and my family is B40. I was wondering if there's still away around this, or at least affordable path? If not, I'll just wait for the future but I still would like suggestions of any good specialists out there for future references. Plus, any suggestion you guys have on what I should do next would be nice too, as I'm quite lost and still very upset about my experience.
And if anyone has the same health issues as me but it isn't HSD, then feel free to let me know just so I'm aware with other possibilities. (of course I'm not looking for redditors to diagnose me, it's just so I can keep in mind).
Currently, I'm just taking the painkillers medications provided, but unfortunately the dose may be too low (only 50mg) as I do not have improvements at all with my pain. I've also tried investing in aids such as wrist and ankle braces, compression socks, and insoles (they haven't arrived yet so I couldn't comment much). Including exercises/stretches fit for hypermobile people (which actually doesn't hurt me unlike regular exercises).

Thank you for reading this far!

2024.05.21 19:35 Constant-Coat5656 The Humiliation Never Ends - GPA!

Until class 8 I was never a "bad student". Instead, I was counted as a bright student. In class 9 I kinda lost my intrigity and slowly became a "bad student".
Then, SSC results happened. I was in the first batch of SSC (2001) when the grading system was introduced. Nobody in Jessore board got 5.
It's bad, very bad. Everywhere you go, humiliation follows you until or unless you become something.
I got 3.75 Until 2018 I was humiliated, everywhere and by everyone (including family members). This got over when I joined as a regional manager in an MNC.
Now people insult me in a different way, but that sounds good! Now people say, GPA doesn't matter, look at him. He got so low GPA, yet he could do something good!
When someone asks, do grades matter? I say yes. Grading doesn't only count for admissions to a good college or university, it follows you your whole life in BD.

2024.05.21 19:35 er9119 Has anyone had any luck with anti-anxiety meds?

Good afternoon,
I ask as I have had palmer and planter hyperhidrosis since I was a kid but has gotten worse as I have gotten older. I can go without sweating, but then this feeling, like a streak of nerves, goes through my body then my hands and feet start to buzz... then it is the flood gates!! There is VERY VERY little I can do, if anything, to make it stop once it starts. It is for sure related to heat for some part, but for the most it is anxiety that gets it going. And the anxiety triggers the sweating, and the sweating triggers the anxiety, very vicious and sweaty cycle!! I am thinking about asking my doc for low grade anxiety meds to see if that would take away the nerves part of it.
Has anyone had ANY luck with anti-anxiety meds for HH?
I am also using a Dermadry (iontophoresis) for about 2 weeks straight with a bit of a result but nothing significant yet I also use CARPE cream. It works but when the nerves kick in, the sweat glands wake up regardless!

2024.05.21 19:33 Jurnee8282 Believe in Yourself

Believe in Yourself
I have been struggling with my weight for about 9 years and have always been a pretty healthy eater up until the last 3 years! I managed to get at my heaviest at almost 240lbs and I am 5’1” in height. Talk about miserable! I couldn’t barely put socks on, tie my shoes, get comfortable while sitting on my couch, it was frustrating! I decided in Nov 2023 I was going to do something about it. I changed my diet, went on a calorie deficit and started exercising 3 times a week. I managed to lose 20lbs however stalled at 218 and no matter what I did I couldn’t lose but I wasn’t gaining either! I finally decided a GLP-1 was my next option. In March 2024 I was waiting on approval and started Topamax, what a mistake that was. I had to quit taking it due to some severe side effects that almost landed me in a mental facility. I managed to lose another 10lbs on it but it wasn’t worth the side effects. I finally started my GLP-1 on 3/20/2024 and I can’t be more happy with my results! First Picture: 238lbs Second Picture: 176lbs SW 208 CW 176 GW 130! Calories Deficit: 1200 High Protien/Fiber Exercise Min 150 minutes a week Strength Train 3 Days a week for 20-25 minutes Mostly low impact I do take some vitamins to help with my metabolism as well as digestive enzymes, collagen, daily fiber and trace minerals, low mg magnesium! I have a vitamin D deficiency so I have to take that too. These have been a saving grace! I made a promise to myself that before I went to my son’s high school graduation I wanted to be under 180lbs and I was 178lbs and was over the moon! Making small reachable goals every 60-90 days has made it so easy to stay motivated and positive even through stalls because those happen! I have seen noticeable changes in inflammation, knee and joint pains and basic daily functions since my weight loss began. I have more energy than ever before and am always ready for some sort of activity which has given me so much hope for the future. I hope that this inspires some of you! Dedicate yourself for a better you in the near future, you are worth it! Take those pictures to document your journey and you will see your success as time passes! Slow and steady wins the race!

2024.05.21 19:30 Psychological-Ice964 Best (mesh) network for multiple 10.000 devices?

I am the lucky IT guy, who got the task to find a solution for a wireless mesh style network.
It will be a network of ad-hoc devices, which will be in a urban circle of about 500m. The environment cannot be predefined as it may change from event to event, and each urban environment may look differently.
But it can be assumed, that the devices are somehow even distributed about the rural area. So a mesh style networking could solve the issue:
The devices would be have like sleeping for minutes and receiving commands and sending collected data in batches of lets say every 60 seconds. Here the faster we can transmit, the less the air-time will be in milli-seconds.
Any advices, which technologies are even able to solve such needs?

2024.05.21 19:25 Former_Tonight_2395 What if allmight convinced sirknighteye to help train izuku?

Let's face it allmight wasn't a very good mentor to izuku he really only helped izuku to build muscle and then literally nothing else no boxing or combat training, no image training or helping him with his low self esteem in general (maybe get him a therapist or something) hell he didn't ask gran torino for help until after the sports festival rather than before when he needed all the help he could to make a splash for his debut (Like allmight freaking asked him to) rather than making a bad impression. Even though fanfics make sirknighteye seem more unreasonably than he actually is he did give izuku and honest shot to prove his worth and eventually came around to him. He did say that mirio would have been a better choice OFA because he didn't think midoriya's personality type fit a symbol of piece, that fact that his first impression of him is the sports festival and the fact that allmight refused to retire to save his strength and health after defeating AFO means sirknighteye lost a lot of respect for allmights decision making capabilities.

2024.05.21 19:24 MidOceanRidgeBasalts What do you do when you can’t sleep?

Hey all, recently started therapy since I had cancer last year and apparently I am a part of this club now. Not surprising and explains a lot of stuff but I am not having a good time haha. I have been having a ton of sleep issues for ages like I am sure most of you do too, and I just wanted to ask some advice.
I often am kept up by negative thoughts/memories or fear of nightmares for hours at night. I used to just get out of bed and do something to take my mind off it, like play video games or draw. But recently because of constant never sleeping when night comes around I just feel too exhausted to do anything that might mean getting out of bed so I feel at a loss. I feel too tired to do anything but not tired enough to sleep, just kinda barely awake enough to overthink and hyperventilate?
What are some low-energy, low-brain power things you do at night if you can’t sleep? Or any other tips in general? Sometimes I’ve watched videos but I try to stay off screens at nighttime so I can sleep better even tho it is kind of a lost cause.
I saw a lot of other threads mentioning medication, but I don’t want to go on any. I know it helps a lot but after being on so many drugs for chemo I just don’t feel ready to go on medications and deal with side effects yet, it freaks me out right now.
Thank you so much for any advice. Obviously I plan to talk to my therapist about this in more detail but I really just want to try and get through this week as best I can until then 🥲

2024.05.21 19:24 Heavy_End_2971 Help!!! Almost resolved IBS-D, gastritis and Small intestine issue

I have been suffering with gut inflammation for more than a decade now. Symptoms: - pain (plus gas/bloating) left most left most side of my left rib just after eating. Pain with bloating keep moving down in same direction with time - no dairy not even lactose free - can’t digest veggies and fruits even low FODMAP - fatigue - brain fog - nausea - diarrhoea - gastritis - extreme hunger craving but can’t eat
Now i have been on strict carnivore diet. Meat only for 1 month now. My bowl movements are fine and i am worried of constipation instead of diarrhoea lol i am fine with it. I was unable to digest fat in start but now after one month i can digest tallow easily in lower amount.
The only issue is i was already weak and don’t know how much deficiencies i had with all these years of diarrhoea and eating nothing. Now after one month of meat only, i am feeling too much: - fatigue - brain fog - feeling heartbeat - immense weakness - more weight reduced than ibs - if i eat beef then my body gets very dry as a whole - when i drink water it gets me full and unable to have next meal even i am hungry
Can anyone help me out in getting energy without disturbing my IBS more? Thanks in advance

2024.05.21 19:19 Famous_influencer People vastly underestimate the Smuggler

Going from Vanilla to KotfE or KotET I notice Smuggler is very often regarded as the weakest non-force class from a story standpoint and I feel like this is based in some misconception as well as just flat-out disregard for what the Smuggler acquires throughout their story.
They are, by in my opinion a significant margin, the absolute wealthiest class including Force OR Non-Force Users having robbed imperial treasuries, found lost pirate fortunes, and hoarding ill-gotten gains from their service to the Republic as basically a legal pirate.
End of ACT 3 they basically control the galactic underworld for a good bit giving them connections to presumably any world, any industry, or any faction they particularly need if not directly than indirectly.
And so if we are to assume the other classes take full advantage of their positions, authority, and connections in the Galaxy? Why dont we assume that of the Smuggler?
They shouldn't be just some lucky guy or gal with a blaster and witty one-liners, its better to assume they're lugging around black market prototypes in weapons, armor, and augments! Almost certainly they can both afford and acquire equipment on par with or possibly even greater than Republic or Imperial Special Forces! They travel with(and are possibly married to) a Mandalorian, would mando-grade armor really be out of the reach of the Underworld Kingpin?!
It just baffles me that some people can see the transition of their JK from Padawan to Galactic Hero but still think that KotFE Smuggler is the same low-grade schmuck they were whilst chasing Skavak across the stars.

2024.05.21 19:11 zanchema Explain this to me like I'm a five year old. Helps with solar panel basics.

We've owned our house for a few years and the house came with leased solar panels through Tesla. We were grandfathered into an agreement. We live in Prince George's county in MD and Pepco is the utility company. We never looked into how much we were saving on electric costs until recently (dumb). I've tried researching these issues but the jargon is bananas, and I can't find simple explainers for my questions. Hence, Reddit.
What I've deduced is that Tesla is charging us .1345 per kwh for the energy captured by the panels, and Pepco is reducing our electric bill anywhere between 0.03986 (winter) and 0.0837 (summer) per kwh for the energy captured by the panels (either drawing directly from that or the energy that goes back to the grid). Panels are capturing 192 kwh per month on average. Effectively, we are losing the $ difference per kwh between those two rates, because the amount we are paying to the solar company is at a higher rate than what's being refunded/reduced on our electric bill. I did the math and it comes out to losing a pretty substantial chunk of money per year.
So, here are my questions:
  1. Is what I understand right? Is it normal to lose money on leased panels? (They are two massive panels on our fully sun exposured roof).
  2. Are these normal kwh rates for a utility company? They seem exceptionally low compared to others I've seen.
  3. What is the logic of structuring the cost to a solar company on the kwh captured? In other words, why do I owe Tesla money for the energy that's being captured and generated by the panels? What work does Tesla do that corresponds to the energy captured? Why not a simple leasing fee?
  4. Finally, are there options to renegotiate this lease or rate with utility company? Or to buy out the solar panels? Are there ways I can save more money that I'm not? We plan to stay in the house for at least 4 more years. But TBD after that.

2024.05.21 19:11 NewLexican Engineering gameplay doesn't make me feel like an engineer

Since backing SC in 2013, I've advocated that profession-based gameplay should be the cornerstone of building the player experience.
After playing the 3.23 experimental mode and watching (for the first time) the CitCon 2023 segment, I can say engineering gameplay doesn't do a thing to make me feel like an engineer.
  1. Engineering gameplay is mostly devoid of engineering principles.
  2. What seems to be the intended source of "fun" won't work at all scales.
Addressing the second point first, even watching the devs play, it seems the design is leaning into the idea of frenetic action, bouncing from crisis to crisis, being a driver of "fun." On a larger, multi-deck ship like a Hercules, this design can deliver. But what happens to the frenetic feeling on smaller ships like a Connie or Freelancer where moving from crisis to crisis means walking a few meters or simply turning your body a little?
Returning to the first point, with repairing ship components - Resource Management would be a topic for another discussion - CIG has delivered Barotrauma's gameplay in a spaceship. Instead of using a magic wrench to fight flooding and repair equipment in a submarine, we have a magic pistol to fight fires and repair equipment in a spaceship.
Back in 2021, I authored a post on the importance of authentic-feeling profession-based gameplay in which I deconstructed and rebuilt mining as an example. If the mining gameplay mechanic had instead been introduced as part of hacking gameplay - siphoning data off a network while keeping the data flow rate high enough to finish in time but low enough to not alert intrusion detection systems - nobody would have questioned it. Nothing about mining gameplay makes it feel specific to working on large rocks.
Now, like rocks, ship components are non-descript containers filled with numbers, and repairing them entails no more than pointing a magic beam that improves the health number. Where's the engineering?
Instead, imagine if ship components had two, three, or four printed circuit boards (like your computer's motherboard) in them. Conductive lines, called traces, connect bobs and doodads that combine to fulfill some function.
The repair process would entail using the cutting tool to remove the damaged area of a board. The board is scanned, and a mobile 3D printer - maybe a couple of levitating dinner plate-sized discs - prints a replacement patch and inserts the bobs and doodads. The engineer affixes the patch, which fuses into place. They then use an extruder attachment on the multitool - think a plumber's caulking gun - to fill conductive RMC in groves that indicate the trace locations.
Simple enough that doing routine maintenance doesn't become drudgery while being involved enough that performing it in a stressful situation is non-trivial.
Simple additions like a curing time for the 3D-printed patch material could add more engineering flavor to a mission's story.
"Captain, engines are functional again, but I'll need to refurbish the whole thing when we get back to port if we put too much stress on them now."
Imagine now if each quadrant of a board fulfilled some function. This cluster of bobs and doodads together perform power regulation. Another cluster does signal focusing, etc. With this design, an engineer could restore partial functionality in time-sensitive situations.
"Captain, the shields are back online, but someone will have to babysit the power triangle if we run them at more than 50%."
Further, imagine if the actual layout of traces, bobs, and doodads on the board mattered in the context of simple principles: coherence and interference.
Coherence - E.g., to perform the function of power regulation, these seven bobs and doodads must be physically located near enough to one another.
Interference - Bobs, doodads, and traces all generate fields of "interference" in both electrical (current) and thermal domains. Too close proximity impacts wear and tear and can result in failures.
So, we have a tug-of-war between competing objectives on a surface with limited real estate. Factors like total trace length could impact performance, power efficiency, or whatever.
How does this design impact the player experience?
While mining a lucrative field of rocks in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant, an Orion's sensors go down. The engineer finds two traces showing overcurrent damage in adjacent locations on board #3. Repairs are made, but forty minutes later, another failure. More precisely, the same failure. The engineer suspects something about the environment is causing an electrical arc between the two traces.
Knowing there's a lot more wealth to be mined at the planet, the captain contracts a Reliant Sen to survey the upper atmosphere of the giant. The Sen captain delivers a computer simulation of the atmosphere to the Orion's engineer who plugs it into their workbench. Testing reveals that, in this environment, the interference in the "current domain" for traces is exaggerated. So, the board layout needs to be adjusted to move the closest traces further apart; time to play tug-of-war.
Engineering gameplay that makes you feel like an engineer...
For me, too much of too many profession-based systems is being abstracted at too high a level to deliver engaging gameplay. Moreover, abstraction at a high level means the universe lacks fundamental structures that can tie different professions, and players, together.
Imagine in our gas giant example, if the failure wasn't caused by forty minutes of accumulated electrical damage, but by waves of high-energy particles arriving in 40-minute intervals. The Sen pilot may want to investigate the source of the particles, but she'll need an engineer's solution for her ship first. Furthermore, an Orion crew member may think to ask, "If these particles are wrecking our equipment, what are they doing to our bodies?"
Miners, engineers, scientists, and doctors all writing their personal chapters in a larger, authentic, and connected story.

2024.05.21 19:09 zimmer550king Do teachers effectively control your future in German high schools?

I read this comment under a Facebook post and I am posting it here verbatim. I have been here for 1.5 years and just want to get the opinion of Germans. The guy who wrote this comment grew up in Germany as a Muslim of South Asian background. Reading this definitely scared me as it appears that high schools in Germany are racist and teachers can effectively block you from a good future by giving you bad grades intentionally.
the second generation doesn't make it. You can analyse it yourself. Look how successful kids of your friends are. Most of them will be put in real schule or hauptschule. The few who still make it to Gymnasium. They are downgraded back to Realschule after a few years. Only a small portion gets Abitur and a very tiny portion gets the Abitur with good grades. The German culture especially at schools associates less intelligence with colored people. So since the teachers control your life and future. They can give you the grade whatever they want. It doesn't matter what you got in your exams. School is hell. Especially if its a pure gymnasium. To show you how powerful a teacher can be. If you get 100% in a maths exam the teacher has the power to reduce it to 50% and they do it.
I personally struggled a lot at school. Teachers are basically dictators. My sister struggled a lot. E.g in case of my sister she said as a Muslim she doesn't wanna go on Klassenfahrt. The teacher didn't like it and became her enemy and made sure she doesn't get any good grade to go to med school. They made her life hell. Luckily to go to med school you have to get good grades in the TMS. Its a state test it counts 50%. In this test no one knows your name. No one knows if you wear hijab. You are just a number. So she was in top 5% of whole Germany. Which allowed her to go med school. At Unis the life is much better because profs are not racist and they don't have the power to control your future. The school atmosphere is so harsh that most colored kids gets demotivated and just give up. It is one of the reason why yoh don't see many successful 2/3 generation people.
The bulk went to school in Pakistan studied there did master here doesn't speak german got a job as software engineer. The bulk doesn't understand the problems their kids will go through. Most of their kids will not successful. Because they have to go through the school system. Many desi parents still force their kids to get Fachabitur which is low level Abitur and they study history, social sciences or at Fachhochschule to please the parents. In the most of them drop out.
I will be honest, reading that a high school teacher can just slash a student's grade in Germany out of no where is scary. The guy who made this comment is now in the UK after growing up in Germany. He basically wants people of immigrant background to not have kids here as there is widespread racial discrimination in schools as compared to the UK.
How true is the guy's comment? I would especially love to hear from Germans who grew up here and have a migration background.

Powdered Yerba Mate?
Hi guys, can someone explain me about the different types of yerba mate? I see people using leaves, powders, pills..
Got a powdered form that says 25kcal for each 100gr (added the specsheet). But earlier I had a powder that said 200kcal each 100gr?
I see people using leaves, bomba's.. all kind of thing and I dont understand anything of it lol. Does someone know how much grams I need to use from this yerba mate?

2024.05.21 19:08 njpunkmusic I think my 3 month results are wrong. +770

Started injections (100mg bi weekly) and my three month labs are in and I can't believe how much it skyrocket. Went from 320 to 1080 in three months. Testosterone Free went from 7.4 to 52. Testosterone Free 2.4% to 4.84% I honestly don't feel that much different and my libido was super high for maybe 2 months, but calmed down back to original before starting month 3. My workouts and energy have also started to get less invigorated. Strength has platued. Doctor now wants me to switch to 100mgl per month as my levels are too high. But the main reason I started was for my low libido. Is it possible that I'm too high and that is causing my lifting and libido to be down again?

2024.05.21 19:07 Fantastic_Deer_3772 Does it seem possible for me to be employed without additional support?

I used to go to mainstream school, mostly full time but I would sometimes get unwell (aka burnout) and spend a week in my room. I was academically and socially doing okay until the last two years, where I started isolating myself and did worse than expected in my exams. I liked the school environment because I could look to what my peers were doing and copy that, and often tasks were introduced with lots of detail + there was a clear person to ask if I didn't understand what I was meant to do.
I moved away for university but I began to shake every time I went outside. Sometimes I would get overwhelmed and spend two days in my room with nothing to eat or drink, in silence, ppl thought I had gone away for the weekend. I dropped out and went back to the family home where I was unwell for a while.
I finished my degree with distance learning. I then tried to get a masters degree via distance learning but ended up dropping out after panicking over an essay I didn't have the mental energy to do (I had just moved) and a presentation I felt went badly (I have no proof it went badly, I just felt terrified).
I struggle with personal hygiene and with keeping the house clean, I have low energy and am easily confused.
I have had a few freelance bits of work, based from home, but found them very panicky and struggled with the admin (I think I didn't send a solid 1/3rd of my invoices), I also struggled with keeping track of time and returning emails (or knowing what was expected of me). I crashed out of those after about ~6 weeks maximum, despite finding the topic interesting.
I can hold conversations in person p successfully as long as I'm not confused, in which case I freeze up.
I am creative and I know a little about how to do successful applications for arts projects. I want to apply for several schemes which aren't currently open but I'm scared that a) I won't get them or b) I will crash out of them. I got on a training scheme a few months back, the interview went very well and they knew I was autistic, but I didn't understand what I was meant to be doing and dropped out almost immediately bc it was a small company and I felt so embarrassed that I was already confused and that I would be burdening them if they had to start making documents specifically for me.
My perception of myself is that I panic and get overwhelmed and crash out of everything. I don't know what to do.
Perhaps I can sell art or do one-time commissions?
I am just so socially afraid now, there's only like one person I consistently reply to and even then its 50/50.
I don't know. Is this relatable and if so has anyone moved past this or should I be focusing my energy on attempting to get more support for my disability?
