~1600 USD budget. Will be buying from Amazon if I go with Core ($510 atm) and locally if V6 ($1400 atm)
budget should also be able to cover ~600 for bike races/accommodation/transportation BUT I can save up for that later
Is the V6 worth it over the Core if I am using my Faveros for powermeter anyway? Accuracy and whatever is not considered by me. I just want the Wifi function everyone's talking about even though I have extremely high speed fiber internet.

This time I focus again on mutators, let's see how it goes.
I will try to collect various builds, like some from the top and some more accessible ones as well. Also my selection of mutators is arbitrary, I try to focus on some of the top champs and also some of those who never make the top 10.

Arms Race

Game Start: ALL players summon 2 Funsmiths. 4 challenges this month, top 5 were: Jhin (27%), Annie (26%), Veigar (15%), Miss Fortune (6%), Gnar (3%). So the Funsmiths add 1 to spell and skill damage, this suggest champions based on these. Jhin was the most popular. His core relic is Riptide Battery, which buffs him, activates further abilities, generates stun spell and decimates the enemy board. Its most favorite companion is The Curator's Gatebreaker, which activates plunder for Riptide, so you don't need to activate plunder yourself. But beware, if your Jhin somehow goaes away and you play another Jhin, then it won't activate plunder, if you get it transformed back from champion spell (u/Xatik investigated this). The 3rd relic varies a lot, it can be Arcahngel's for 2*, some form of overwhelm for better push-over, like Chosen or Beast Within, or just yet another Battery for earlier leveling and more stuff. Then come the Dreadway champions, from them most popular Annie. Her core here is double Dreadways supported by Echoing Spirit, Guardian Angel or Counterplan. The tactic is to play her, play the generated spells, let her die this or the next turn, play her again and the spells and win! The next couple are the skill champs and I added Nidalee also, she has a great use of the Funsmiths, she can transform one round 1, when she has the attack token!

Magic Number

When the player draw a card, set its cost to 3. 4 challenges this month, top 5 were: Elder Dragon (49%), Volibear (17%), Ornn (10%), Mordekaiser (4%), Nasus (4%). Well, this is mostly an Elder Dragon showcase to see some build of him. He can be played a lot of different ways, especially here, where he can be played ideally for 1 mana. If you don't have him, or would play something else instead, some other big cost champs can be good options as well. However I don't really like Ornn here, generating an equipment is not always that simple due to the cost reduction, but of course the deck can win without an equipment too.

Unstoppable Force

Allies have +3+3, Overwhelm and Can't Block. 4 challenges this month, top 5 were: Darius (42%), Elise (19%), Evelynn (6%), Jax (5%),Gwen (4%). As you can't block here, you can rush down the AI instead or you can control to board by other means (but as I saw nobody really does that). Darius makes a good use of these extra stats, he can activate the Rally sooner. Because of his big cost he is either played with cost reduction, SFG ramp or utilizes some play/summon effects. The other champions are also really good here: Elise spawns spiders, Evelynn spawns husks, Jax levels earlier, Gwen spawn ephemerals and she also heals back and levels faster, The Poro King swarms the board and Bard levels faster also.

Mercy Killings

Round End: Kill ALL damaged units. 3 challenges this month, top 5 were: Jinx (27%), Miss Fortune (21%), Jack (11%), Aurelion Sol (8%), Kayn (5%). So here we have a little noise, as 2 of the 3 were harder challenges, we got Jinx here, who is of course really good against the mutator, but by default not needed. Asol is isn't particularly good but he doesn't care. Miss Fortunes throws around a lot of damage, 3* Jack pings the whole enemy board on refill and Kayn just heal back damage after a kill. I also picked some other gems too.

Nashira is from a rare and reclusive race of Demi-humans called Tres. Specifically, she is a Tres-Vulpes AKA a fox Tres. At a very young age, her parents were killed and replaced by doppelgängers who neglected her. These impostors were promised a large sum for the eradication of the her village. Come extermination day, Nashira, who is only like 10 years old, manages to survive by hiding inside a huge pile of corpses. Fast forward a few years, she is living in the slums of a small town. All the humans there treat her like vermin, regularly abusing her and beating her up. This goes on for a year or two until she meets a retired swordsman. This extremely kind old man offers to take Nashira in under the condition that she becomes his student. This man’s name was Gen Zantachi. Over the years they grow close, almost like parent and child. One day, while Nashira was running errands, a group of humans got together and set fire to Master Zantachi’s house. By the time Nashira got back, it was too late, Master Zantachi was dead. In a fit of rage, she burned that entire town to the ground. The one person who cared about her was gone. She left that town with three things, Her master’s sword, The hat he had given her, and a seething Hatred for humans.

With the surging success of Thrones of Decay and the recent positive news regarding Pharaoh, I'm honestly looking for a enjoyable project to ponder throughout the weekdays before heading home to work on my latest campaign. As such, I'm pleased to announce the introduction of The Newcomer's Guide to Army Composition, a multi-part series featuring effective generic and themed builds for each race within TWW3.
Every few days (ideally), I'll drop a different breakdown of a specific race's generic lord/hero/unit roster with effective, dynamic ways to fill out an army. Overall, these army composition recommendations hold to three core doctrines:

Form follows function...these armies are designed to win battles, and the opportunity cost of utilizing a 'cool' unit over another 'less cool' unit means a great deal when we're talking about the defense of your empire. You know what's cool? Winning, and winning consistently and effectively.
Cost-Effectiveness...we're not here to break the bank, and we're certainly not building 'doomstack' clones (seriously not fun). Great army compositions have layers with a variety of backfill options available...you can't always afford the highest level in every category for every army, so the name of the game is cost-effectiveness.
Flexibility...if you take one thing away from this guide, I hope this tops out your list: variation, flexibility and durability are the saving graces of the best army compositions. I’ll admit that opponent specialization has certain advantages, but generally speaking, I despise the idea of sitting around for ‘X’ amount of turns globally recruiting the ideal niche unit designed to defeat [insert race here]. Instead, I find a force capable of challenging virtually every race much more useful in the mid-game and down the stretch of long campaigns.

Alright, on to the good stuff…first up, a personal favorite: the Dawi.
While I personally recruit based on the legendary lord and which advantages they provide certain units, whether that's through their unique trait or via their unique skill line, my goal with this breakdown remains typical army compositions for non-legendary lords...here's how I approach a relatively generic build:

First and foremost, pick yourself a lord type...the generic lord is really solid, the runelord serves as more of a support specialist and the new daemonslayer offers a extremely different melee approach. Unless you're building a slayer-themed army, I'd generally suggest one of the first two as the daemonslayer truly works best when utilizing a good number of slayer units. Total Units: 1/20
Next, and I've found this is an unpopular decision on this forum, I utilize a strict one hero per army rule with a few minor exceptions (VC, for example). I also offset my lord choice with a hero of opposite specialization...so a runesmith would pair well with a dwarf lord while a thane works perfectly with the runelord. The master engineer slots in well with both, so just modulate your needs accordingly. And if you're the type who prefers more heroes, throw in one of each, all three are excellent. I'll note that the new dragonslayer is also quite brilliant, really knows how to take on large entities and a great option to throw into the mix as well, especially if you're going to be fighting tomb kings, dark elves, greenskins, etc. Total Units: 2/20
Six frontline infantry designed to hold the line...these traditionally are well armored and shielded and just generally stay alive. They aren't your damage dealers and they aren't designed to generate kills...they hold the line to ensure your actual killers have time and space to do their job. Start off with Dwarf Warriors (easily the best Tier 0 unit out there) before upgrading to Longbeards and, finally, Ironbreakers. The latter offer some excellent punch with their short-range explosive toss, excellent in the late game against heavily-armored troops such as Warriors of Chaos or the Dawi-Zharr. Total Units: 8/20
Behind your frontline, you need two kinds of damage dealers: ranged and melee. First up, let's talk about the ranged units...Thunderers are the way to go, bar none. I'd argue both variants -- the traditional and the grudge-rakers -- are exceptional, with the latter maybe being slightly better due to a quicker reload time. The traditional have slightly better range and accuracy, though, so there's some trade-off. My go-to from now on will be two of each, to be honest. If you’re a bit strapped for cash, quarrelers are always a solid choice, plus you can run some simpler formations as those crossbows shoot up and over your frontline units. Total Units: 12/20
Now you need some hard-hitting melee, and fortunately you have some options. Hammerers were the original choice on this front, but with the addition of doomseekers, it's a bit more of a toss-up. The question you have to ask yourself is survivability...hammerers, with their high armor and high numbers (100 per unit), will hold up in most fights. Doomseekers with their zero armor and lower numbers (32 per unit) don't have that advantage. That said, doomseekers have some sick animations and way outclass the hammerers in their general stats (better MA, MD and charge bonus), so it's still a bit of a toss-up. I bring two total to help my frontline with particularly tough enemies, and with both offering magical damage, ensure targets consistent of the undead or daemonic, when applicable. When you’re cost-strapped, look to the great weapon variants of long wards and dwarf warriors. Total Units: 14/20
Not much of a Dawi force without some artillery...the usual approach on here tends to be an overwhelming amount in this category, but I honestly think two total truly works perfectly within most armies. Start off with grudge throwers before upgrading to cannons and then organ guns and flame cannons. Full honesty, I’m completely sold on the new flame cannons…they absolutely melt most units, and with a Rune of Seeking, full on chef’s kiss my friends. Pair with an accurate damage-dealer such as organ guns and you’ll have enemies severely crippled well before reaching your infantry frontline...that'll do nicely. Total Units: 16/20
Moving on to war machines...these are the units you'll need to micro during battles to get the most impact, so just prepare for that inevitability. Prior to ToD and the 5.0 patch, the unit of choice was the gyrobomber, but I've honestly been forced to reassess a bunch the past couple weeks. First off, the Thunderbarge is a no-brainer, grab one of those as soon as you can (assuming you can afford it)...just float that sucker over the enemy army within range of your thunderers (for protection) and it'll take care of virtually anything. Second, the gyrobomber is still great, and it's a solid option for harassment, but I really appreciate the utility of the gyrocopter (brimstone guns)...they mop the floor with a heavy majority of opposing ranged options, freeing up your thunderers and Thunderbarge to focus on the opposing frontline. Mix-and-match between the gyrocopters and the gyrobombers for best results, but I've found just one with a thunderbarge to work really well. Total Units: 18/20
Finally, the flex positions...I tend to slot in some anti-cavalry units for these two final spots, just to ensure my artillery doesn't get ravaged by boar riders or the like. Surprisingly, Bugman's Rangers work exceptionally well in this hole...they have this under-the-radar 'Charge Defense Against Large' ability that makes them ideal for taking on cavalry, and up until the point they get charged, they're a solid missle unit as well (same effectiveness as a quarreler). However, my favorite unit for these two spots are Irondrakes (Trollhammer Torpedoes)...they crush it against large entities, can hold their own in melee for a decent amount of time due to their armor and just generally look super cool. Total Units: 20/20

A Slayer-Themed Composition
As promised, I also included a great slayer build that I have come to enjoy tremendously:

Daemonslayer for the lord slot…a must-have for this composition, feels strange to run anything else. Total Units: 1/20
Dragonslayer in the hero position…again, a must-have, and truly excellent as a single-entity killer. Total Units: 2/20
Doomseekers…prior to the addition of these beasts of the battlefield, slayers were entirely focused as anti-large specialists. Doomseekers changed that entire dynamic, and I recommend running six of these gems as your ‘frontline’ for this comp…a bit expensive, sure, but if you’re building themed armies, you’re already rich. Total Units: 8/20
Giantslayers…still the anti-large champ in regards to slayers, and highly-effective on your flanks protecting your doomseekers from cavalry charges and monstrous infantry. I personally grab four, two on each end to ensure the integrity of my frontline. Total Units: 12/20
Slayer Pirates…an extremely fun unit with some late-game purpose in this composition: ranged firepower with a bit of flanking capability. Like I noted earlier, I appreciate flexibility on the campaign map, and the last thing you want to run into with a themed stack is a couple enemy units virtually untouchable by your forces. Slayer Pirates solve that problem well as your anti-flying shield, and when that need isn’t as ‘needed,’ per se, they make solid flankers with excellent armor-piercing ranged ammo. I bring four for safety. Total Units: 16/20
Goblin Hewers…not exactly my favorite of the slayer units, but definitely fun in the right context and against any lord boasting a large mount. I toss in a pair to absolutely delete enemy leadership or large single-entity monsters, and they’re the type of ‘artillery’ you never have to worry about since they’re manned by another couple dozen slayers…cavalry charges need not apply. Total Units: 18/20
And finally, a few Gyrocopters (Brimstone Guns)…I know, I know, not technically slayers, and while you may be absolutely correct, the advantage of a pair of brimstone copters takes root in their capability taking out ranged units. Slayers, as we all know, sprint into battle sporting zero armor, making them vulnerable to even the sloppiest of archers. In steps a pair of brimstone guns, and suddenly you’ve got very little ranged to worry about plus some post-battle barbecue options for your surviving slayer comrades. Total Units: 20/20

Enjoy the Dawi, they are an absolute blast to play with now, and I highly recommend experimenting with some of their mid-tier units as well as virtually all variants of grudge settlers…the flame cannons and trollhammer copters are unreal out in the field.

Major waffle warning
I apologise as I admittedly stretched to make this relevant to this sub at all but I was interested to see people’s take on the subject here, given how it does indeed stem from history in which these two figures very heavily influenced at the time
I consider myself a moral (albeit mild) Christian, and I have no issue with the actual concept of immigration, diversity and so forth; it’s simply the very nature of the last century or so especially. Having studied economics at A-level and business at university (before dropping out in the final year for history; oopsies), I learnt all about globalisation and such which of course supports these very concepts and I simply can’t disagree to them
However, I’ll put it simply; illegal immigration, of any race or religion, is indeed illegal, and we should simply send these people on their merry way either back to where they came from or to wherever else they wish to take themselves but here (looking at you Calais)
There’s much social media outbursts (brainrot essentially) of our country’s ratios/percentages of diversity. We are still a country predominantly white Christian/white British; around 75/80% I believe. Our capital, and other cities, are always going to have a higher proportion of diversity, and we shouldn’t have issues with that matter in itself at all; so of course Inner London is only going to be around a third white etc
I live about 5 miles south east of Newcastle in a small village called Rowlands Gill; quite a decent estate that I specifically live in, just a street or two down from where one of the Hairy Bikers Si King used to reside, and asides for my Indian local barber, I genuinely cannot for certain guarantee any non-white person lives here, the entire village I’m talking, no joke. It just goes to show we need to look at our entire national breakdown of diversity to see, quite literally, the bigger picture
If we’re talking about such figures as Lionheart and Saladin, I think they were both rather reasonable (albeit heightened and sensitive at times) figures and examples of their respective religions, and would probably not be surprised at the extent England is in now, nor that of the Middle East (I’ll be quiet about Palestine because my views are inevitably going to contradict those of some others and vice versa)
Have I been called racist before? Absolutely. Have I been called anti-Muslim etc? Absolutely. Have I been told I favour white Christians over any other race or religion? Absolutely. Am I any of those things? No, I simply believe in putting good, reasonable yet still moral policies upon such immigrations; both illegal immigration and, well, immigration
Perhaps I apply to the latter of those three if anything, but I would expect absolutely anyone of any race and religion to be the exact same way regarding their country and their followers in faith; if you value both your God and your country, its history and its patriotism, you are not going to place its priority below others outside of it; that’s simply how it is
I’ll again admit I somewhat (or very rather) stretched the relevancy to the monarchy in order to post this here, but I was curious to see your take on the issues (of course ‘issue’ not always meaning a literal bad thing; there are some positive aspects to this I’m sure)
We are told to “love thy neighbours” (I have not read the entire Bible since I was a child so I’m not going to act like I’m an expert with any unique verses etc; hence my ‘mild’ Christian description) and I’d like to think I am a generally reasonable, soft, caring man on the inside towards anyone of any race, religion, general opinions etc, even if I tend to come off the rather opposite at times externally (I’m sensitive and take everything to heart and will admit to that)
I would always place God and Christians as ‘my people’ first, and no doubt I would expect Muslims, Jews and so on to do the same with their followers, and I don’t think that is wrong at all. However, that does not mean I’ve only ever been close to ‘my people’; at university for business my best friend was called Hussain from Bahrain (lol that rhymes), a very devout Muslim and I miss him dearly; I loved him from the very day we met. I remember one day we were literally discussing the prospects of these very issues arising here (and this was about 4 years ago); I remember he told me something along the lines of “I came here to a country of a different God, and because of this I and my fellow Muslims here must respect this land and its ways” and that is precisely the very logic I am going off; the words of a Muslim friend
I’ll put it like this; I love football; it’s one of the 3 cores of my 23 year life (well since a toddler anyway); football, history, and food (as in actual culinary aspects; I’m not that fat of a pig yet)…I support Liverpool. I’ve never lived there, I’ve only been a few times, and yet I support them; indeed an English team. Does that mean I automatically have no interest nor respect for rivalling clubs (except for cheating Manchester City breaching 115 accounts of finances) or even ‘hate’ these clubs in or out of England? No, absolutely not. I feel this same logic applies to the real world; real people and real religions.
Yes I’m patriotic and I don’t half waffle on about things, but we may as well say our thoughts rather than hiding them away within ourselves to no avail

The Canadian Armed Forces do not have a monopoly on foolish leaders, sociopaths, tyrants, or people lacking emotional intelligence. They can be found leading large companies, directing schools, heading major hospitals, and even within the church, basically wherever they can climb the ranks. The Canadian Armed Forces are not exempt from this problem of toxic leadership. I would even argue that the Canadian Armed Forces, due to their strict and highly regimented nature, provide an environment conducive to toxic leadership.
For the first time on this blog, I took the time to interview several people in order to write this article. The process was easy: everyone wants to talk about their experience under a toxic leader. Through these testimonials, I tried to better define what is meant by toxic leadership. I also wondered what causes a leader to become toxic. Finally, I attempt to provide some solutions to eliminate this scourge.
Defining Toxic Leadership
Leadership can be defined as the art of influencing human behavior. There are formal leaders (those who have received « authority ») and informal leaders (those who have charisma or a natural gift for influencing others). There are positive leaders and negative leaders.
« A positive leadership attempts to maintain a friendly and warm working climate within the team in order to bring out the best in each of its members. Negative leadership, on the other hand, influences the members of his team through judgment, negativity, opposition, or disinterest in the project. » (source: HEC).
At one end of the positive-negative leadership spectrum is the toxic leader. What distinguishes them from negative leaders? In my interpretation, a leader becomes toxic when the unhealthy influence they have on their personnel has severe impacts outside the workplace.
The Dark Triad
Psychologists have identified three traits that make up the sinister « dark triad of toxicity »: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy.
The Narcissist
Narcissists need to see themselves as the best in everything. They don’t seek to elevate the people around them; they only seek to elevate themselves by belittling others. Despite this, they are convinced that they are good leaders, that they are humane. To convince themselves of their benevolence, they sometimes say good words to their staff. They do it because they keep what I call « the book of the perfect platoon commander » closely guarded. They have learned what they should say – « take care of yourself, seek a good work-life balance, it’s not a sprint but a marathon, you need to think about yourself too, etc. » – but they are fundamentally incapable of applying these fine principles. They are tyrants, their true nature remains. Narcissists don’t end up in therapy: they send others to therapy.
The intelligent toxic leader know that they need certain key people to achieve their goals: these are often their inner circle. To ensure their loyalty, they charm them, cajole them, they treat them like royalty. But these people can never leave the organization because they are responsible for the tyrant’s success. In the long run, they too must forget their dreams and ambitions. This is commonly called a « punishment for success ».
The Machiavellian
The Machiavellian leader – an adjective derived from Niccolò Machiavelli’s work « The Prince, » published in the 16th century – uses multiple stratagems to achieve their ends. For them, the end justifies the means entirely. They will not hesitate to regularly throw their colleagues or subordinates under the bus. Why do they target their peers and subordinates? Because they pose direct threats to their power; these are the men and women who could want to take their place or, worse, snatch away the position they covet at the higher level.
Machiavellian leaders tend to assess the people they work with very quickly. Like on the Tinder app, they quickly swipe left or right depending on whether they judge a person competent or incompetent, or rather, useful or detrimental to their goals. And they don’t spare those who swipe the wrong way. Some will even go to great lengths to ensure that those they consider weak or detrimental are not considered for promotion. They won’t hesitate to call their superiors about them to ensure they don’t have an equal chance compared to their peers. They engage in a real undermining, which is defined by actions carried out more or less secretly to destroy someone.
The Psychopath
« The personality traits associated with psychopathy include a lack of empathy or remorse, antisocial behavior, and being manipulative and unstable. It is important to note that there is a distinction between psychopathic traits and being a psychopath, commonly associated with criminal violence » (Source: MindTools). There are psychopaths in all armies, but generally, we do a pretty good job of identifying and eliminating them. Nevertheless, some leaders exhibit the personality traits mentioned above. When we think of a psychopathic leader in uniform, we generally think of a sergeant yelling in a soldier’s face, but it’s much more insidious.The toxic leader denigrates, belittles, plays on emotions, and erodes trust slowly. They don’t just shout once; they consistently rant. For those who constantly receive their insults, it’s death by a thousand cuts.
Beyond the character traits associated with the dark triad, there are other characteristics of toxic leaders. For example, some toxic leaders hide a significant lack of self-confidence under their tyrant facade. To mask their fear, they constantly yell, without realizing that yelling is losing one’s composure, a sign of weakness. They believe they are protected by a shell, but in reality, they wear a tactical vest filled with mines and grenades that sow chaos in the ranks. It’s not an armor they wear; it’s an arsenal.
In light of what we’ve seen, it appears that toxic leaders need to feel better than others, they need attention, they need to belittle, or even crush. In short, they don’t just break careers; they go as far as breaking lives.
Impact on the Organization
A toxic leader gets results quickly, which reinforces their belief that they are using the right approach. In the short term, the technique works, that’s undeniable. However, in the long run, they cause immeasurable damage, leaving behind what I call a « trail of destruction »: shattered careers, personnel in therapy, individuals completely jaded and cynical, and sometimes shattered lives. To quote a friend who is an officer, a toxic leader:

Another friend wrote to me that, during his deployment in Afghanistan, his superior « tested and broke his resilience. » These are strong words, coming from a senior officer in combat arms. We are taught everywhere to create an environment where subordinates can develop. Nevertheless, there are still leaders who seek to demolish those they deem lacking the necessary skills to lead.
Toxic leaders eventually establish an unhealthy climate within their team, a climate of « every man for himself. » This leads subordinates to experience anxiety and, sometimes, depression. Peers no longer take the time to inquire about the mental health of their teammates because there is no team spirit. Sometimes, there isn’t even a team. Like the leader who is the chief intimidator, some subordinates become bullies themselves. You quickly choose your side: the strong weigh down on the weak. Everyone says to themselves, « I won’t let myself be trampled on anymore; now I’ll be the one trampling on others. »
Why Are Toxic Leaders Sometimes Rewarded?
Why, knowing all this, are toxic leaders rewarded? Firstly, part of the blame must be attributed to the regimental system (or its equivalent in other services/environments). Regiments quickly identify their favorites, the chosen ones, those who will rise to the rank of general. These individuals are identified very early, even during training phases. Too often, those selected are the ones who speak loudly, have attitude, a big ego, in short, those considered to have « the look for the job. » Then, the regiment pushes them forward and, if necessary, sweeps their small missteps under the rug. What happens if the regiment is wrong? It still pushes forward because admitting you’re wrong is worse than pulling a candidate out of the race.
Toxic leaders are also pushed upward because they are generally effective, very effective even. With a toxic leader, you walk on eggshells. You strive to give 100% of yourself, especially at the beginning, because you want to avoid the ground suddenly disappearing from beneath you. But these leaders are not just demanding; you can be demanding without being a jerk. No, they don’t just demand; they break their personnel to a point of no return. They squeeze the fruit until the seeds and core are crushed.
In the long run, the entire organization loses out. Firstly, the toxic leader exhausts their personnel. Secondly, without necessarily rebelling openly, subordinates increasingly keep their good ideas to themselves. A good leader fosters ideas, while a bad leader believes they have a monopoly on good ideas. Over time, their staff engage in what I call « passive resistance. » Some will even go as far as sabotaging a project if they believe they can do so with impunity. The toxic leader thinks they are getting the most juice possible when, in reality, they are shooting themselves in the foot. Instead of seeing effectiveness in toxic leadership, the chain of command should realize that tyrants don’t think about common success; they only envision their own success. The institutional problem with this approach is that another leader will succeed the toxic one and inherit a completely drained and demoralized unit.
I am aware that much more is demanded of military personnel than civilians; in fact, it’s one of the few areas of employment where the ultimate sacrifice can be asked. I am also aware that troops must be toughened to prepare them for the brutality of combat, a concept called toughening. I believe strongly in toughening. It’s an essential process for creating fighters. Troops are toughened through training and exercises; the leadership model exercised during these trainings and exercises is necessarily tough, severe, and intense. But it’s possible to be very demanding without falling into abuse, denigration, and harassment. The line between severe authority and abuse is thin, but it exists, and one must always be aware of it. You can be feared and respected as a leader without being hated (for those who appreciate the teachings of Machiavelli).
How to Prevent Toxic Leadership
How can toxic leadership be prevented? Here is a non-exhaustive list:
Initially, supervisors who become aware of a toxic leader under their command must show managerial courage and take the necessary steps to restore the climate.
Conduct more psychometric assessments and 360-degree evaluations where subordinates are asked to assess leadership.
Assign caring mentors to promising officers and non-commissioned officers to help them develop suitable leadership styles.
Conduct organizational climate surveys to obtain employees’ perceptions and perspectives. These surveys address attitudes and concerns that help the organization work with employees to bring about positive changes.
Invest in personal development (soft skills) and raise awareness among leaders about emotional intelligence.
Bring in leaders from outside at various ranks (for example, a business leader becomes a lieutenant colonel), an idea from retired American General Stanley McChrystal that remains quite controversial but is worth considering.
Integrate unions into the ranks, as done by the police and some foreign armies, to prevent abuses and avoid rash decisions. Another controversial but certainly effective proposal.
Conclusion
When I went through my infantry officer training, I was instilled with this simple phrase: Mission First, Men Second. Toxic leaders only apply the first half of this motto. Fortunately, mindsets have changed over time. We now say Mission First, People Always. One of the undisputed « truths » of special forces is that « humans are more important than equipment. » We realized that humans were central to the enterprise and that they could break like a piece of equipment.
Once, narcissism was sometimes confused with efficiency and arrogance with leadership. Fortunately, times are changing. Trainings on diversity, harassment, and concerns about integrating LGBTQ+ members, for example, are being provided. In recent years, people have also become more outspoken. There is less hesitation to escalate abuses of toxic leaders to higher levels of command.
The more these leaders are eliminated, at all levels, the fewer bad role models are offered to junior officers and non-commissioned officers. There is hope.

I dropped D&D5e for Pathfinder2e basically immediately on release. I never gave up playing in my favorite D&D campaign setting though- Eberron. If anything, I found Pathfinder2e better suited to the Eberron setting, which I had played in 3.5’s ocean of content for years. While I have grown to enjoy Pathfinder’s Golarion via playing in multiple of Paizo’s APs, I still run my own games in Eberron, using Pathfinder 2e rules. I am not the only person to do this, and there is even a fantastic fan-made Eberron conversion that can be found [here}( https://scribe.pf2.tools/v/2qF7WjsY-pathfinders-guide-to-eberron).
Pathfinder2e has 23 base classes, with that number soon to be rising to 27. Not all these classes have obvious D&D parallels, and so I wrote this guide primarily help players and GMs link Pathfinder’s many unique classes to Eberrons’ somewhat less conventional fantasy world. I also sort of hope this might interest some Eberron players to give Pathfinder2e a try, and some Pathfinder2e players to give Eberron a try. I will go over all the Pathfinder2e unique classes and talk about how to connect or change them (thematically) to fit into Eberron- no mechanical homebrew required.
The artificer question: Eberron created a class for D&D that is special built for the setting, the Artificer. In Eberron, where magic is technology, Artificers are sort of like scientists. In game mechanics, they are magic item specialists. In the original 3.5 rules, they literally just made magic items as their main class feature. This was changed (ruined in my opinion) in D&D5e, but the core of the class is still character who does not cast spells, themselves, but rather manipulates magic items. This does not exist in Pathfinder2e, but there are a few classes I think make for great substitutes mechanically if you change the flavor. I will bring this up in a few classes under the heading “Can this class be an Artificer?”
Alchemist- Alchemists create Elixers and bombs and mutagens, all of which fit very well into the world of Eberron. You can absolutely play an alchemist straight- A goblin engineer could be a bomber, a veteran of the Last War could be a Chirugeon, and a Lizardfolk shaman from Q’bara could be toxicologist. Another angle though is shift the Alchemist to be more magical in nature. A bomb could be a crystal that houses elemental energy. A mutagen could be a device that injects arcane power into the blood. Can this class be an artificer? Absolutely, that small flavor change to make the class more magical in nature is all you need to do.
Gunslinger- This is a weird one. Some people do just play Eberron as a world that has guns- this has become more common in the 5e era, and there is nothing wrong with this. Personally, prefer the idea that guns don’t exist, but there is magic that comes very close. The setting in Eberron takes place shortly after a massive, World War 1-esque conflict that accelerated the pace of magical technology. I like to run with the idea that wands were developed as offensive weapons- not as powerful as a wand that casts a whole spell but able to shoot blasts of magic all day. In my Eberron, these gun-wands are powered by Dragonshards that serve almost like magazines or heat sinks in Mass Effect. The result? Wandslingers baby. Mechanically, your pistolero might still be using two guns, but thematically, their long coat is now full of “dueling wands”. The Sniper might have a special, magically powered rail gun that fires a crossbow bolt with lightning magic. You can run wild with the flavor! The one thing I like to maintain is that gunwands are still new and rare, much like guns in the Golarion world. Wandslingers are specially trained wizards and warriors- a random layperson couldn’t just pick up a gunwand and make it work. This sort of ads to the “true grit” feel of the gunslinger. Er, wandslinger.
Another option for the Gunslinger for players who want to stay true to the gunpowder theme, is introduce guns as weapons from the Dwarven Mror Holds or the Hobgoblin nation of Darguun. It would be a stretch to say that pirates from Lhazaar have adopted these weapons either.
Inventor- Much like the Alchemist and the Gunslinger, the best way to convert the Inventor into fitting into Eberron is retool them to be more explicitly magical. They still might have gears and gizmos and gadgets, but these tools should be powered via magical sources. You can really work on your Magipunk slang here “I added mana-calibrators to my geomantic hammer”. A good media example for a magical inventor might be a character like Jace from Netflix’s Arcane series. As touched on previously, Eberron features magical crystals called “Dragonshards” that store, bind, and release magic. These could be a great way to work an Inventor character into Eberron. Additionally, the House of Making provides a natural backstory home to the inventor. Could this class be an artificer? Absolutely. This is probably the best analogue to 5es “Battlesmith” subclass of the artificer.
Investigator- The Eberron world is a setting that is built around intrigue, mystery, and even noir, as much as it it pulp action adventure. The Investigator is an easy slot into Eberron. Multiple governments have spy agencies, such as Breland’s Dark Lanterns. Over half of the Dragonmarked houses have solid reasons to employ investigator type characters, whether a half-elf detective for house Medani, a half orc bounty hunter of Tharask, or even a specialized Courier for house Orien. Additionally, an Investigator makes for a great “on the job scholar” type character, a treasure hunteresearcher for Morgrave University, for example.
Kineticist- Eberron is full of the idea of “manifest” zones; regions that have some extraplanar link to elemental (or other planes), pefect for playing this elementally charged class. This is an easy way to work a Kinetcist’s backstory into Eberron. For example, a character from Sharn who races in the Eight Winds race could be an air Kineticist due to their connection to Sharn’s manifest Zone. Another option is to simply have Kinetcists be more primal, raw types of magic users. An orc from a Gatekeeper tribe could be a wood Kineticist, a Dwarf mountaineer from Mror could be a stone kineticist. My group currently has a Sahaguin who is a aiwater kineticst. Finally, a Kineticst is, mechanically speaking, a class that uses magic but doesn’t cast spells. This could be used to represent Dragonmark, especially a rare and dangerous Abberant Dragonmark, very well. Could this class be an artificer? Why the hell not. Maybe an artificer who specializes in elemental binding?
Magus- This has to be one of the easiest ones to adapt. A Warrior who wields magic and weapons fits almost anywhere in Eberron, since the whole idea is commonplace. A veteran soldier? Special Forces? A pirate? An enforcer of a Dragonmarked house? A champion of the cults of the Dragon Below? A survivor of the Mourning? Could this class be an artificer? Yes, if you don’t mind being a very martially focused character. Maybe an artificer who uses a specially powered magical sword?
Oracle- A caster powered by a mysterious curse? That seems like a shoe-in for a character that draws power from the Draconic Prophecy. It also seems like a good way to play a character who has a dragonmark- especially someone with a difficult to control Siberys mark or a strange Aberrant mark. For example, someone with a powerful Mark of the Storm might be a Tempest Oracle, wheras someone with a mysterious connection to the Draconic Prophecy might be a Cosmos Oracle. Additionally, because Eberron’s dieties are so distant and nebulously real, an Oracle dedicated to them makes for a good divine character that exists outside of traditional church hierarchy- like a zealot of Dol Arrah (Battle Oracle).
Psychic- The obvious home for the Psychic class is as a substitute for psionics, which Eberron was designed to include in 3e, but has never really found a home for in 5e. The class works well for Kalashtar or Reidran humans, or anyone who uses psionics. Some subclasses of the Psychic might also work well for certain members of dragonmarked houses. The way I run Eberron in Pathfinder2e is that any occult-list (one of Pathfinder’s four sources of magic) may be a psionic character. I once had a psionic bard! But not every occult caster has to be a psionic user. Again, that means a Psychic can work great for a Kalashtar Psion, but also can work for a magical character, like a silent Thuranni assassin who kills with mind magic.
Sorcerer- Sorcerers are different enough in Pathfinder2e from D&D that I think they are worth mentioning here. Pathfinder has four magic sources, rather than two. Arcane (wizards), Divine (Clerics), Primal (Druids), and Occult (Bards). Sorcerers are not just arcane casters- they choose which source they cast from on character creation when they choose a Bloodline. This gives them a HUGE variety of ways to fit in the world. A primal magic using sorcerer with the Fey bloodline could be from the Eldeen reaches, a Divine sorcerer with the demon bloodline could be from the Demon Wastes, an Occult sorcerer could have the power of a Quori spirit within them, all alongside your traditional dragon-blooded arcane sorcerer. Because of this, I also think sorcerers could be a good stand in for Artifacers with a bit of reflavoring (and focus on crafting). An Imperial Bloodline sorcerer especially could work well as an artificer. I think a Wizard might be a more clear choice, but the potential is there.
Summoner- Summoner is a very broad class that chooses between all four magic traditions (much like sorcerer). The main thing they have going on is their permanent summoned companion- their Eidolon. This gives a lot of oppurtunities to work them into Eberron. Their backgrounds can be just as diverse- from a necromancer from Karnath to priest from Thrane with a connection to a holy spirit, to a clockwork engineer from Zilargo. My current Eberron party has a demonic summoner who has a flesh-warping creature from Khyber as their Eidolon! I do think the summoner could work as a very specific kind of artificer who has a constructed battle companion- though the Inventor might work better for this, unless you want spells.
Swashbuckler- Another very simple one. A warrior who relies on daring and gusto over strength is a great trope for Eberron. From an airship captain to Lhazar pirate, to even a Hoggoblin swordsage or a street fighter from the slums of Wroat, the Swashbuckler fits anywhere into Eberron with no need for flavor changes.
Witch- Like the Sorcerer and Summoner, Witches choose their magical source on character creation (though the vast majority of their subclasses are Occult and Primal). The witch is sort of the Pathfinder2e version of the warlock; their power comes from a pact with a powerful entity. Mechanically though, Witches are much more about hexes and sustaining buffs/debuffs than dealing damage and blasting. Eberron is full of a lot of power creatures- Demons, Dragons, Fey, Quori, Dealkyr which make for great patrons for a Witch. I also think its entirely possible to simply have your patron be a powerful mage or even a dragonmarked house- a storm-witch of house Lyrandar or a shadow-witch of house Phiarlan, for example.
I hope this gets people inspired to make characters, and maybe even look into the Eberron campaign setting. I also hope this helps GMs do what I have done over the last few years, which is migrate 5e players over to Pathfinder2e.

I have concluded two campaigns in this setting. I am currently running another two campaigns in this setting. One of them just concluded session 3 and another will be meeting for session 0 sometime next week. The first group just made it the regional big city (Shang-Ha), so you won’t be out of the loop on much. This first group is fantastic and has lots of engaged rp focused players.

Continent is called Lumria, last inhabitable continent as the others were ruined in war
You live in a human empire called Yeoen (contains most other standard dnd races you'd find in a city outside half-orcs and orcs)
You find yourself in Shang-Ha, a recently developed military/civilian city of moderate size (been around for about 3 years now). Shang-Ha is a hub city with around 20 potential side quests, and 30 or so locations for you to interact with. You have a lot of freedom on what you decide to do.
Yokai and Fey are terrorizing the local populace, and have corrupted the forests near the Yeoen Empire.
Yeoen is at war with Orc empire, who reside in the Orc wastelands, Orcs are know for their savagery and chaos
Yeoen are known for the their strictness and lack of mercy with a military police in most major cities
World is quite untamed outside the human empire, and this will be a core feature of the first part of the campaign
Children are disappearing, and that is the first major plot hook
