I buy a Panasonic TX-36PD30 today. I admit my back hurt a lot, especially that i also move a Thomson 33MS24E yesterday. The pana is a monstrous 36' and the Thomson a nice old 33' big bubble 4/3 SD set. So yes my back is completely destroye, i need pills ;)
There was some post here related to this TV. I previously started a topic to try to understand better what this TV is really capable of doing, without getting much answer... So after the painful installation i run some test. I made this post for the posterity, there is a few of these set for sale here and there, so it can be useful.
What i found so far :
RGB / Scart Input in progressive mode (Mister direct video + HD Fury X3 in RGB) :
  • 240p is line doubled. Intermittent artifact + blurry motion. In term of lag i cannot say if it's lageless as i cannot test it, but it feel lageless so it's surely very good.
  • 480i looks a lot better but still blurry motion.
  • force scandouble : 480p doesn't work
  • Mister with scaler enable and video_mode=2 doesn't work either, so 480p is not possible in RGB / Scart.
Component Input (Mister + HD Fury in Component mode) :
  • 240p/480i doesn't work
  • 480p60 and 576p/50 only.
  • 640x480 doesn't work, so a mister in direct video + force scandouble doesn't work.
  • Only 720x480 is working
  • Force 16/9 ratio
  • True 480p "16/9" modeline doesn't work, at least the one i tried (852x480p60)
Another observation :
  • Probably the sharpest slot mask tube ever ?
  • Geometry / Linearity / Convergence need slight work, but it's already very good as it, to not say excellent for a consumer set especially considering it's flat.
  • If you run RGB, this set is picky with sync. I first tried a retrotink vga2scart and it's bad. But i admit i only get problem with this thing. If you want a good sync combiner, you need an extron rgb or a real thing like the ultime sync combiner.
So i admit i was disappointed with these limitation, it felt like a bad bet. Only the component input with a 720x480 signal is really usable and it's limited to 16/9. But there is still way of having it better :
  • With my Mister i just set the scandouble fx to 75% scanline and scale to HV integer. So it restore the 4/3 aspect and you get real scanline. It darkens the image of course but it could be easily compensate.
  • With a pc and emulator / retroarch i assume it's easy to do the same if you want the 240p look, just play with aspect ratio and use a basic scanline filter to remove half the line. Same thing for modern retro games (i get this set for this), two simple reshade filter should do it.
  • An OSSC pro should do it if you want a good scaler to mess with aspect ratio and scanline, it should be usefull to people that that run console and not emulator like me.
  • There is several mode that can be switched, so for calibration (i'll do it with my DTP 94 probe) it should be easy to set a mode for 480p and use another mode to calibrate for "fake" 240p. This way it's easy to compensate for the lost of brightness.
There is people around here that gave a lot of -hum, hum- contradictory informations about this set in other posts. Of course they are free to share their finding and we'll see what can be reproduce.

2024.05.13 22:37 MrBigFeathers Lifelong console gamer looking to build PC instead of buying a PS5. May switch to PC and abandon console completely in the future.

**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

* Gaming - looking at a PC instead of PS5 w/PSplus subscription. Currently have an Xbox Series X. Want this PC for Helldivers 2, Hades II, Monster Hunter World, and upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Will be hooked up to 4K/60hz TV via HDMI. I would like to be able to play the aforementioned games at better than medium settings without issue. Could end up replacing Xbox in the future also. Will act as a console would for me.

**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**

$1300

**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

sometime between now and the end of summer

**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**

Just a tower

**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**

U.S., no Microcenter close enough

**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

4k/60hz TV (TCL 43 inch)

**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**

No

**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

SSD (512gb - 1TB is fine). Maybe two NVMe slots, but not required

**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

Would like to not use liquid cooling unless it is necessary. Don't like the idea of liquid with electronics. Kind of confused on fan placement. Also, whatever type of case would be easiest to change/upgrade in the future and is good for airflow/cooling. Looks aren't a factor.

**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**

Already have Win 11 pro

**Extra info or particulars:**
This will be my first PC built in 20+ years. Primarily a console gamer but looking to get a PC over a PS5 and maybe transition fully to PC by next console generation. PC will be used on a TV with controller, acting as a console basically. Will be wired ethernet, no need for wifi. Prefer wired for everything over wireless.

2024.05.13 21:58 EJC28 Titans 2024 Draft Analysis Compilation

Round 1, Pick 7 - JC Latham, OT, Alabama:
NFL: General manager Ran Carthon is putting his stamp on the team with this pick. Taking Latham tells me the Titans want to continue playing bully ball and dominate at the point of attack despite surrounding their young quarterback with pass-catching talent in free agency. The 6-foot-6, 342-pound tackle can overwhelm and overpower opponents on the edges, which should excite second-year quarterback Will Levis.
CBS Sports: B+. He is a right tackle and they need a left tackle, so it will be interesting to see how they play it. But he’s a violent player wherever he plays. They cross-train at Alabama at both left and right, so he should be able to make a smooth transition.
ESPN: Latham played mostly right tackle at Alabama but will switch sides in the NFL. He was a highly-rated left tackle coming out of IMG Academy but switched to right tackle because Evan Neal was already entrenched on the left side. Latham's mix of size, heavy hands and footwork should allow him to fit in there. But it's a risk to use a top-10 pick on a player and switch his position. The Titans have used three picks within the first three rounds on offensive linemen since 2020. Could Latham be the one that finally pays dividends?
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Hopes he can convince his squirrel army to come with him.
Round 2, Pick 38 - T’Vondre Sweat, DT, Texas:
NFL: Our first mini-shocker of the day. The massive Sweat was believed to be a possible top-50 pick at one point, but that was prior to his recent arrest. Credit to the Titans if they did the requisite work on Sweat's character in the past few weeks. He's a massive human being capable of closing down two gaps by himself, but some teams felt Sweat might be available entering Round 4 based on recent developments.
CBS Sports: C-. Monstrous NT who finally demonstrated a glimmer of pass-rush capability with hand work as a senior. Not as good against the run or double teams as his size indicates. Probably two-down player in the NFL. Tennessee did need more size inside along the DL, but this is too early for a limited player.
ESPN: Sweat is another move for the Titans to address the trenches. At 6-foot-5, 366 pounds, Sweat will pair with Jeffery Simmons along the defensive line giving the Titans a formidable duo to attack the quarterback and stop the run. Sweat consistently made plays behind the line of scrimmage as shown by his eight tackles for a loss and two sacks. Sweat was booked into jail after an arrest for driving while intoxicated earlier this month, but the Titans are confident he will be fine with Simmons and former Texas teammate Keondre Coburn as leaders in the locker room.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Jumped his family mini-van like the Dukes of Hazzard.
Round 4, Pick 106 - Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina:
NFL: Nice value here for a linebacker who does almost everything fairly well and can be a tone-setter in the locker room. Gray will be a quality special-teamer at the very least, but he carries starting potential down the road. He's aggressive and instinctive.
CBS Sports: A-. One of the younger prospects in the class who comes with plenty of experience. More fluid in coverage than he is with sheer explosion and range to the football against the runs. Has to improve beating blocks in traffic en route to the football. Long limbs. Upside is there.
ESPN: The Titans address a need at inside linebacker with Gray. Tennessee lost starter Azeez Al-Shaair when he signed a free agent deal with the Texans. Jack Gibbens started most of the season next to Al-Shaair last year. Gray will compete with Gibbens for the opportunity to start along side Kenneth Murray Jr. who signed a free agent deal last month. Having started the past two seasons at North Carolina, Gray could be a candidate to wear the green dot communicator helmet to relay the plays from the sideline to the defensive huddle.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Knows there is chemical waste buried under the Browns training camp.
Round 5, Pick 146 - Jarvis Brownlee Jr., CB, Louisville:
NFL: Nickel corner run! Brownlee will take on all comers in coverage, lacking great size and speed but compensating with good experience, coverage savvy and an intense focus.
CBS Sports: B-. Confident and feisty CB who can play inside or the perimeter. Not overly twitchy. Nice mix of physicality and athleticism at the line and during the route. Tackling is average at best. Same with ball skills and overall athletic skill set. Not tremendous anywhere but doesn’t have a clear flaw.
ESPN: Brownlee Jr. gives the Titans depth, especially at nickel cornerback behind Roger McCreary. Tennessee met with Brownlee at the Senior Bowl and had him in for a 30 visit. Defense is clearly a priority for the Titans as they've addressed that side of the ball with the last three picks. Brownlee lands in an ideal situation where he can learn behind L’Jarius Sneed and Chidobe Awuzie and play for noted defensive back specialist Dennard Wilson.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Almost got his toe bitten off by a snapping turtle.
Round 6, Pick 182 - Jha’Quan Jackson, WR, Tulane:
NFL: It felt like Jackson was among the leaders in Senior Bowl practice receptions. Interestingly, I felt he was underused at Tulane, as Jackson has good quickness to uncover and make people miss as a smaller-framed slot receiver. He and teammate Tyjae Spears are reunited in Nashville.
CBS Sports: B+. Small somewhat twitchy vertical threat. Not as ridiculous changing direction as his size would indicate but has electric burst and speed. Minuscule catch radius but flashed some bounce to go up and get it at times, although physicality and longer CBs give him problems.
ESPN: Jackson gives the Titans depth at slot receiver and another player that can be in the mix as a punt returner. Titans coach Brian Callahan expressed a need for someone to step up as a slot receiver when asked about wideouts in the draft. Jackson will compete with Kyle Philips, Mason Kinsey, and Kearis Jackson for a roster spot and the opportunity to contribute from the slot. He was a college teammate of Titans running back Tyjae Spears at Tulane. Jackson is also the nephew of Hall of Fame Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: He had to come up with all these draft facts under duress.
Round 7, Pick 242 - James Williams, S, Miami:
NFL: A long, fairly rangy athlete who spent more time at deep safety than he did in the box, Williams will be tried as a linebacker. His unusual dimensions and skill set might make him a sleeper.
CBS Sports: A-. Has some wild tackling misses on film but also counters with impact plays behind/near the line or at the intermediate level in coverage. Enormous size and length for the safety spot and will set the tone in many games with his powerful tackling. Not incredibly twitched up but moves reasonably well for his size.
ESPN: At this point, teams draft for traits. Williams played as a box safety at Miami but some teams envision him as a linebacker after seeing him work at that position at the Senior Bowl. That falls in line with the versatility that defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson said he wants. Wilson also said he wants the defense to be aggressive which is something that Williams showcased in college. Tennessee could also use him on special teams.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Simply cannot believe that Shrek 2 is 20 years old this year. WTF.
Round 7, Pick 252 - Jaylen Harrell, DE, Michigan:
NFL: Harrell is a broad-framed linebacker with rush skills and an alpha-dog mentality. His performance in the national title game was great, and he could be a sub-package defender with a unique job description.
CBS Sports: A. Old-school outside linebacker who can sink in coverage or attack the outside shoulder of the tackle. Smooth, athletic movements to comfortably do either. Shows glimpses of pass-rush promises just doesn’t diversify his rushes enough. Must get stronger but does set sturdy edge. Young ascending player.
ESPN: Five of the seven Titans picks have been on defense. Harrell's father, James, spent eight seasons in the NFL and played one season in the USFL. Jaylen Harrell started all 15 games for Michigan in its national championship season and adds to the Titans' depth at outside linebacker. He'll compete primarily with Harold Landry III, Arden Key, Rashad Weaver, and Caleb Murphy for a chance to be in the edge rotation.
NFL Absolutely Not Fake News: Has band T-Shirts from the 80’s and 90’s.

2024.05.13 21:22 PhtevenTheTarg Ship Building Issue - Mac on NVIDIA

Hi there
I'm playing the .4 patch using NVIDIA Geforce NOW on Mac. The game has been running completely smoothly and I'm loving it. However, I seem to be having a problem with ship-building. I want to check if it sounds like an issue with me playing via Mac or if I'm just doing something wrong in the game through being a moron.
Whenever I go to drag and drop any of the ship components into the corresponding shapes/areas on the ship, none of them get accepted. I can drag drives into the space for drives and they get accepted and stay in the slot, but all other slots it just acts like I haven't dragged it into the slot and returns to the area at the top like I did nothign. When I use auto-design all the spaces fill, but it keeps doing it with lasers rather than missiles...
I tried to persist without figuring this out but now I am getting constantly harassed by the Servants, so need to figure out if I'm an idiot and doing something wrong OR if this is a part of the game that via NVIDIA doesn't translate across onto Mac. In which case, I'll likely have to stop playing as not having functional ships is beginning to suck.
Please say I'm just going something wrong when I'm dragging things into the slots? Help much aprpreciated!

My brother has a pre-built Acer Nitro N50-640 but it only has 8 gb of RAM in one of the two slots. It’s an i5-12400F with GTX 1650. He wants to get a single 8 gb or 16 gb more RAM to go alongside the current 8GB, however due to the prebuilt components we don’t know if the current PC’s motherboard supports DDR4 or 5 or if parts on pcpartpicker would be compatible.
Any guidance would be appreciated

2024.05.13 16:26 Blueredreditor Ramble Ramble

We are always seeking out thesis and ideas that are different/contrarian to that of market consensus. Consensus suggest that net income will come in at 100M, but upon research we see that net income is likely to come out at 120M for a myriad of possible reasons (e.g. better capital utilisation, pass-through costs to consumer, durable cost savings etc) ex ante.
There are two possible scenarios when earnings result come out, 1) everything is in-line with consensus and theoretically the stock price is perfectly flat (assuming forward expectations remain the same) and 2) a beat of 120M (vs 100M consensus) and the stock pops +5%.
The question here is whether this pop of +5% is purely idiosyncratic alpha, or can it be decomposed into X% factor(s) and (1-X)% alpha returns. Intuitively, I would think that the +5% pop can be a mix of both factors and residual returns OR pure residual depending on the underlying fundamental.
Let's say we're looking at LVMH and LVMH pops +5% due to increased China demand. In this example, all luxury brands would similarly benefit from increasing China demand, and the "idiosyncratic" component is that LVMH is able to capture more of this China demand (as compared to peers due to brand name etc). In this example, the +5% pop can be ex post attributed to both factor(s) and idiosyncratic returns.
Now let's say that we look at a copper mining company and the +5% pop is due to the copper mine's greater than expected copper yield. In this example, the +5% pop is arguably pure idiosyncratic returns.
In these two contrasting examples, the +5% pop from the copper mine is "better" than the +5% pop from LVMH as the former as more idio returns than the latter. If we do a Long LVMH/Short Dior vs Long Copper Mine / Short Other Copper Mine, the latter will tend to outperform.
Of course in the Copper Mine example, we assume that revenues are supply constrained rather than a demand-side problem.
When we look at Axioma or Barra's risk model, their factor regression models would break down the returns into factor and idio. But it doesn't quite "accurately distribute" the factor and idio components. Using the pod's model of playing earnings, most of the idio returns are generated around earnings whereas the risk models assumes that returns (both on normal days and earnings days) are a mix of factor and idio returns. Probably have to re-read how Barra decompose their returns.
Essentially this whole rambling is just a question on: Whether returns from being different from consensus necessarily mean idiosyncratic returns.

The 89th Joint Task Force wants you to help defend humanity! Founded in the Late 2490's to combat the growing insurrection threat across the outer colonies, the 89th JTF served as a premiere expeditionary force in readiness for the UNSC. Even now, in the early 2530's, aboard the 6th Battle Group, we stand ready to put down rebel threats and alien incursion alike. The 89th Joint Task Force is a MILSIM OPTRE unit. With a good handful of our members and leadership either active military or prior-military, we're able to tune the unit to scratch the more realistic itch our members have while also keeping it casual enough for our more easy going members. We are also new player friendly; whether you are new to Arma or an Arma Veteran, our extensive Instructor Corps will be happy to teach you everything you need to know to join the fight.
The 89th Joint Task Force is a HIGHLY active and ever-expanding unit. We are seeking recruits who have a drive to be as active and dedicated as the highest echelons of our command, so we may continue to grow and establish ourselves as a community. We offer those who meet this requirement a place where they can feel they belong, where they will grow close with their squadmates and be ever ready to utilize their camaraderie to ensure mission success. As an expanding unit we look for those who have a drive to lead, for our next team, squad, and platoon leaders. We look for those who not only want to be part of our unit, but for those who wish to help us succeed! If you think you've got the right stuff, come join, and take your place in the unit.
This sounds great! What do I need to join?

2024.05.13 15:17 justsomedude1111 Anyone familiar with this tech?

Anyone familiar with this tech?
I found this with all of its components, and after researching I only have a few facts: 1. It's a satellite receiver 2. It's used mainly for watching TV in Arabic 3. It's old hardware
I couldn't find a user manual anywhere. I watched some YouTube videos and have a basic understanding of its main functions. What I'm wondering: 1. Is this tech still supported? 2. What are its functions besides TV? 3. Will it broadcast anything other than Arabic? 4. It has a slot for a smart card. Where do I find one?
Thanks

2024.05.13 15:01 ajcpullcom 1929 Alpha Romeo — build video linked below

1929 Alpha Romeo — build video linked below
This is a replica of a 1929 Alpha Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato which I finished yesterday. I copied the design from a rare antique car I found online here. The model features opening doors, working rack-and-pinion steering, and a full replica engine.
I’ve posted a video of its moving parts and the build here. I tried to remain as faithful as possible to the original, less the decaling. The woods are mahogany (chassis), ebony (seat and tires), walnut (framing), and maple (windshield surround and fascia), plus a few cedar and padauk accents. No stains or CNC.
I started by carving the hood covers, the tops of which I shaped with an angle grinder and joined to the sides with hidden dowels. I cut a strip, rounded it with a spot sander, and sliced it up for the hood vents. I cut and shaped panels for the rest of the chassis and mounted them to a flat base, including the doors with dowel hinges. I shaped the fascia, cut a veneer to simulate a grille screen, and drew the Alpha Romeo insignias with a thin marker. The dashboard face is mostly dowel heads with drawn-on dials.
I based the steering mechanism on this gif and this gif I found online. First I made a gear by cutting two small discs with a hole saw and gluing tiny wood squares between them as the cogs. Then I cut the rack teeth on a table saw like finger joints. I stuck a dowel into the gear and mounted it through the passenger and engine compartments. The headlights and reflectors are dowel heads rounded on a drill press.
I cut the tires and rims with hole saws, and made a simple jig to rotate the rims in my drill press for equidistant holes to fit the spokes, which are toothpicks. I used a low-quality hole saw for the outer edge of the tires because it leaves deep diagonal grooves that look like treads. (I left the wheels detached until the end of the project so it wouldn’t move while I was working on it.)
The interior seating was an ebony blank that I cut into strips, rounded over with a router, and glued back together. I cut more ebony into curves, cut grooves into them with a router, and slid them on top of the doors and dashboard before adding toothpick rivets. Polished up, they look just like leather.
The engine components were really fun to create, many by using my drill press as a lathe. I made the cables by boiling toothpicks, bending and sanding them to shape, and coloring them with a marker. I cut the windshield from a sheet of hobby plastic and framed it with grooved strips of maple. I’ve never worked with plastic before, but it cuts just like wood — sanding too, except the edges melt if you’re too aggressive. Other than the windshield, the only pieces in the whole project that aren’t wood are tiny magnets I embedded to hold the hood covers in place (which I decided to add after one hood slipped off onto the floor and shattered).
The chassis is sanded to 10,000 grit and everything is finished with tung oil. I’ll apply wax later this week to get a nice shine. The project took about 90-100 hours total over 7 weeks. I made two unfixed errors: the wheels are a little undersized, and one side of the hood vents face the wrong direction (stupid mistake I noticed after rebuilding it when it shattered). But overall I’m very proud of the finished product. I’ve posted some of my other vehicle replicas here, here, here, and here. I’d be happy to exchange tips and ideas with anyone working on similar projects.

I am writing a component with a dynamic tag (h1-h3). For this purpose, I opted the render function instead of template.
Now the problem is HMR. I implemented the component using Then I implemented the component using not setup script. In this, the HMR is working only if slot is of type string. If you pass any other HTML element, HMR will cease to work.
Here is the code for your reference:

Here is a test template you can use:

Another solution for my objectives is to use multiple v-if in a templete. But I think this solution is a hack. Can you please help me figure out why the HMR not working here. Thank you :)

2024.05.13 13:22 Tiberiusthemad Proven natural hacks to boost your mood (Serotonin) and lower anxiety. I hope it helps.

A lot of people from this subreddit have been asking this question and i got this article together to answer that question. I hope it helps. Cheers.

I honestly have found great help when i started taking Omega 3 in a daily basis, Vitamin B1 B6 B12, enough zinc, magnesium and Vitamin D.
PS : for those who also want to increase their testosterone, improving your mood and lowering Cortisol greatly helps.

Stress Reduction

Our bodies release cortisol when stressed. Cortisol decreases serotonin levels in the body, by increasing serotonin reuptake. Too much cortisol can increase your risk of developing mental health disorders. That is why reducing mental stress can help balance cortisol levels and increase serotonin
Many of the lifestyle changes below can be used to decrease stress.

Mood Improvement

Serotonin impacts our mood, but mood also affects serotonin production. Studies using brain imaging (PET), showed that brains of people who are happy produce more serotonin than brains of people who are sad
Therefore, engaging in activities and doing things that make you happier can help boost serotonin production.
In addition, studies show that social interactions also influence serotonin levels. Spend more time with people who make you feel good in general

Exercise

Fatigue, as a result of exercise, increases the amount of tryptophan that can cross the blood-brain barrier (by decreasing BCAA levels) and thereby boosts serotonin production. Psychological benefits of physical exercise can be more readily achieved with consistent aerobic exercise training
Mice that ran on treadmills had higher levels of serotonin compared to mice that remained inactive. Brain tryptophan remained high even after exercise

Getting More Sun

It has been long known that bright light helps treat seasonal depression. But several studies suggest that light is also an effective treatment for other forms of depression
People have higher serotonin levels in the summer compared to winter
In fact, our modern way of life, in which we spend a lot of time indoors, may be depleting our serotonin levels, thereby making us more vulnerable to mood disorders
Pioneer studies suggest that our skin may produce serotonin when exposed to sunlight
In addition, you need vitamin D to produce serotonin, and sun to produce vitamin D
Therefore, going outside and spending more time in the sun on a regular basis is a great way to boost your serotonin levels.

Yoga and Meditation

A review of over 200 peer-reviewed RCTs, clinical trials, and meta-analyses studying complementary and alternative medicine suggest that yoga and meditation may help uplift mood and improve symptoms of mild, moderate, and treatment-resistant depression
In fact, meditation activates many parts of the brain important for understanding the self, emotions, problem-solving, adaptability, and increasing awareness. Serotonin plays a role in wakefulness, along with other neurotransmitters, which are all raised in meditators
Thirty minutes of yoga and breathing exercises improved mood in a study of 71 healthy adults

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy or counseling may change brain chemistry and even increase serotonin activity (by increasing serotonin receptors). In a (DB-RCT) study of 23 patients with depression who participated in psychotherapy for 4 months, therapy significantly increased serotonin activity and improved symptoms of depression

Eat to Increase Serotonin

Tryptophan is the amino acid building block for serotonin. Tryptophan is not produced by the body, so it must be taken in through diet.
Current research shows that unlike purified tryptophan, consuming tryptophan-rich foods does not necessarily increase brain serotonin. That’s because tryptophan-rich foods, such as meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables, also contain many other amino acids. Tryptophan has to compete with these other amino acids for transport across the blood-brain barrier
On the other hand, lack of dietary tryptophan (compared to other amino acids) may lead to lower blood and brain tryptophan levels, decreasing serotonin production. Increased BCAAs also lower tryptophan and serotonin, as well as dopamine in the brain. This may be especially problematic for people who take protein powders to enhance exercise performance

Carbs

Consuming carbs increases serotonin levels by increasing the transport of tryptophan into the brain
However, you should use other methods to boost your serotonin, as increasing carbs in your diet can have a plethora of negative effects.

which Supplements can Increase Serotonin?

L-Tryptophan and 5-HTP

In the body, L-tryptophan is used to make 5-HTP from which serotonin is made. Taking L-tryptophan may raise plasma serotonin, improving cognitive, motor, or gut issues in those who are deficient
A protein called alpha-Lactalbumin from milk contains more tryptophan than many other proteins. In a (DB-RCT) study of 18 inpiduals, 12 grams of alpha-Lactalbumin increased the amount of tryptophan in blood plasma by 16% after 90 minutes
In another (DB-RCT) study, 12.32 grams of tryptophan increased blood tryptophan by 43% after 1.5 hours and improved memory in 23 subjects vulnerable to high stress
In a pilot study of 13 female patients experiencing premenstrual syndrome (PMS), 6 grams of L-tryptophan taken daily for 14 days improved mood, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and carbohydrate craving
Tryptophan can be purchased in the form of L-tryptophan supplements. 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) supplements are also available. It is important to note that 5-HTP is not the same as 5-HT, which is the chemical name for serotonin. 5-HTP freely crosses the blood-brain barrier (serotonin itself does not) to be converted into serotonin

Probiotics

In the digestive tract, probiotics restore the gut microbiome and influence the gut-brain axis. Gut bacteria are important because they can produce tryptophan, from which serotonin is made. Many mental health disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, are linked to less perse or fewer gut bacteria
In a study (DB-RTC), an 8-week probiotic regimen (2.0 x 109 CFU/g of Lactobacillus helveticus and 2.0 x 109 CFU/g of Bifidobacterium longum) increased tryptophan levels in 110 inpiduals with depression. Increased tryptophan can increase serotonin production
A probiotic (Bifidobacteria infantis) given to rats for 14 days raised levels of blood tryptophan

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps the body make, release, and use serotonin in the brain. Vitamin D activates an enzyme that converts tryptophan into serotonin. If vitamin D levels are low, our brains make less serotonin. Thus, increasing vitamin D intake increases serotonin levels, reducing the risk of mental health disorders
A cohort study of over 9K subjects demonstrated that taking vitamin D supplements during the first year of life was correlated with a 77% reduced risk of schizophrenia. In other words, preventing low vitamin D levels early in life may reduce the chance of having schizophrenia later in life

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

While vitamin D helps neurons make serotonin, the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), help neurons release serotonin and improve its activity (increasing serotonin receptor sensitivity). Fish, such as salmon or trout, are high in omega-3 fatty acids. The omega 3 fatty acid supplements are also sold as fish oil capsules
Inadequate omega-3 fatty acids intake may increase susceptibility to psychiatric illnesses, including depression
In a (DB-RCT) study of 49 patients that repeatedly self-harm themselves, 1.2 grams of EPA and 0.9 grams of DHA capsules daily for 12 weeks reduced suicidal thinking by 45% and depression by 30%
An observational study of 256,118 Japanese participants, discovered that people who ate fish daily had lower rates of suicidal thoughts compared to people who did not eat fish daily. In another observational study of 1,767 Finnish subjects, consuming fish less than twice a week was associated with a higher risk of depression and suicidal thinking
In rats, low levels of omega-3 fatty acids (specifically alpha linoleic acid) are associated with lower serotonin activity, while DHA deficiency reduces brain serotonin in piglets
Reduced intake of both EPA and DHA by pregnant rats resulted in less production, storage, release, and activity (receptor function) of serotonin in the brains of their offspring. Serotonin was not only reduced in the mothers’ brains but also its availability and production were reduced by (65% and 29%, respectively) in the brains of newborn rats

St. John’s Wort

St. John’s Wort is a popular medicinal plant (Hypericum perforatum) used as an antidepressant for mild depression.
The plant increases serotonin in animals, similar to typical antidepressants, but with fewer side effects
In a review (of 35 studies) of 6,993 patients with depression, St. John’s Wort standalone therapy improved mild to moderate symptoms as well as antidepressants and better than placebo. The typical dose is 300 mg of the extract 3 times per day for at least 4 weeks

S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe)

SAMe is needed to produce serotonin
It is a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in methylation, energy breakdown and may help patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who are not responding to conventional, synthetic antidepressants
In a (DB-RCT) study involving 73 MDD inpiduals unresponsive to drug therapy, 800 mg twice a day improved symptoms of depression compared to the placebo
In a (DB-RCT) study of 144 inpiduals with MDD, 1,600 – 3,200 mg of SAMe daily for 12 weeks significantly improved mood
A review of 132 studies (115 CT and 17 preclinical) concluded that SAMe can be useful not just for depression, but for an array of mental health disorders, such as substance abuse and psychosis

Vitamin B

Lack of vitamin B may be associated with the onset of mental health disorders. The body needs Vitamin B6 to make neurotransmitters like serotonin from 5-HTP (Vitamin B acts as enzyme cofactor)
Vitamin B12 and folate (vitamin B9) are necessary for the folate cycle, which helps convert tryptophan into serotonin (by producing and recycling essential co-factors)
In a cohort study of 549 community-dwelling seniors, those with low vitamin B12 and B9 blood levels were more likely to have irreversible problems with cognition (memory, attention, and thought)
In Rhesus monkeys, a single dose of vitamin B6 increased serotonin production in the brain
In addition, treatment of healthy adult rats with a vitamin B mixture raised serotonin levels in the brain

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supplements over a period of 6 weeks increased brain serotonin levels in rats with drug-induced dementia

Vitamin E

Vitamin E supplementation for 8 weeks increased serotonin in rats suffering from spinal cord injury

Zinc

Zinc can target and activate serotonin receptors
In a meta-analysis of 17 observational studies, blood zinc levels were lower in depressed inpiduals compared to non-depressed inpiduals
In a study (DB-RCT), 25 mg of elemental zinc supplements daily for 12 weeks reduced depressive symptoms in a study of 37 patients with major depressive disorder
Zinc can be increased through diet in foods such as red meat, oysters, and whole grains

Magnesium

Magnesium supplements increase serotonin levels by increasing its availability (reducing reuptake) in the brain. In a (DB-RCT) study, 500 mg of magnesium per day for 8 weeks significantly improved symptoms in 60 patients diagnosed with mild to moderate depression
Magnesium is found in green leafy vegetables, nuts, and legumes

Inositol

Inositol increases the sensitivity of serotonin receptors
In one study of 30 women with a PMS mood disorder, myo-inositol reduced symptoms and improved mood given over 6 menstrual cycles
Inositol decreases depression in rats by binding serotonin receptors

Turmeric

Curcumin is the active component of turmeric. In stressed rats, curcumin extended the length of time serotonin stays active in the brain (by blocking the reuptake of serotonin). It also improved cognition and reduced serum corticosterone, a cortisol equivalent, in rats
In mice, a single dose of curcumin (10 – 80 mg/kg) increased serotonin levels

Velvet Bean

Mucuna pruriens, known as the velvet bean, combats Parkinson’s disease better than the standard treatment (levodopa) in rats. In addition to being a source of dopamine, the long-term use of the powder form of Mucuna pruriens also restored serotonin levels in rat brains

L-Theanine

L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea leaves (e.g. green, black, or oolong tea) and Bay Bolete mushrooms, has relaxing effects on the mind. Green tea has the highest concentration of L-theanine
In a cohort study of over 42K Japanese inpiduals, those who consumed at least 5 cups of green tea a day experiences less psychological distress that is often associated with reduced serotonin
In rat studies, L-theanine raised serotonin levels in the brain

Rhodiola

Rhodiola rosea is a flowering plant that may help improve anxiety and depression. In a (DB-RCT) clinical trial of 89 patients with mild to moderate depression and low serotonin, Rhodiola rosea extracts (340 mg/day and 680 mg/day) for 42 days improved overall depression, including insomnia and emotional instability
In 70 depressive rats suffering from chronic mild stress and serotonin deficiency, Rhodiola extract (1.5, 3, or 6g/kg) for 3 weeks restored normal levels of serotonin

Saffron

Safranal, one of the main active components of saffron (Crocus sativus), increases serotonin availability in the brain (by blocking reuptake)
A meta-analysis (5 RCTs) of 177 participants concluded that 30 mg per day of saffron capsules can improve symptoms of depression in adults with major depressive disorder within 6 to 8 weeks

Psychedelics

Psychedelics are hallucinogenic drugs such as lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin mushrooms. Psychedelics can stimulate serotonin activity (by directly binding to serotonergic receptors and also increasing their number), raise serotonin levels, and reduce its breakdown
In a recent pilot study (DB-RCT) of 12 patients with anxiety, 200 μg of LSD significantly reduced self-reported anxiety. LSD was given in a safe psychotherapeutic environment with medical supervision to avoid side effects
In a (DB-RCT) study of 17 healthy inpiduals, psilocybin (215 micrograms/kg) enhanced mood, increased goal-directed behavior and decreased recognition of negative facial expressions
Though psychedelics can activate serotonin signaling, unsupervised use may lead to serious psychological consequences. Certain plant hallucinogens, as well as synthetic hallucinogens, can be especially toxic. Using this substance should be under professional supervision.

Magnolia Tree

The bark and seed cones of the Magnolia tree (Magnolia officinalis) appear to have anti-stress, anti-anxiety, and antidepressant effects
20 and 40 mg/kg of honokiol and magnolol, the main components of Magnolia officinalis, restored low levels of serotonin in rats with chronic mild stress
Magnolia bark and ginger rhizome are commonly used to treat mental disorders in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). 30 mg/kg of a magnolia bark and ginger rhizome mixture increased serotonin in the brains of depressed mice

Essential Oils

Essential oils are commonly used to reduce anxiety, stress, low mood, and other mental health disorders. Smelling the essential oils (inhalation) can activate pathways in the brain to boost serotonin and dopamine production
In a study of aromatherapy in 60 elderly patients with depression (RCT), 5 ml of essential oil mixture (containing lavender, sweet orange, bergamot, and almond oil) increased serotonin levels after application two times a week for 8 weeks
Ylang-ylang essential oils increased serotonin levels in mice brains (hippocampus)
Bitter orange is an essential oil that reduced anxiety and improved mood by boosting serotonin activity in mice after 14 days of use
Lavender oil blocked the breakdown/reuptake of serotonin in cell studies

Valerian

The root of the Valerian plant increases serotonin levels and activity (by decreasing its turnover)
Valerian may help with irritable bowel syndrome. In a rat study, components of the Valeriani root balanced overactive serotonin in the gut (colon) and serum
Valeriana officinalis root extract prevented the breakdown of serotonin in mice exposed to stress

Apigenin

Apigenin is a nutrient in citrus fruits that may improve cognition and behavior as well as symptoms of depression and stress
In mouse models, 20-day treatment with apigenin (10 and 20 mg/kg) increased serotonin levels, and decreased anxious behavior
Apigenin was able to reduce the impact of chronic mild stress in rats by increasing serotonin availability and reducing its breakdown

Berberine

Berberine is a salt derived from plants in the Berberis family (the roots, rhizomes, stems, and barks), including barberry, tree turmeric, Oregon-grape, and others. It blocks the enzyme MAO-A, which breaks down serotonin, thereby raising serotonin levels
A single berberine dose increased levels of serotonin by 47% in the brains of depressed mice. Long-term treatment with berberine (5 mg/kg for 15 days) increased serotonin by 19%
Mice given berberine in a different study had increased serotonin levels in regions of the brain (hippocampus and frontal cortex) important for memory and mood

Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Carnitine may increase serotonin in the cerebral cortex, a region of the brain involved in cognition and memory
Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) is a modified form of carnitine, a common dietary supplement sold in health food stores. ALCAR protects the brain and may help with depression. In mice, it increased levels of serotonin in the brain when given daily for 25 days

Lithium

Lithium has long been used in the treatment of mental disorders such as bipolar disorder. It works by increasing serotonin activity in the brain

Physical Treatments that Increase Serotonin

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback allows inpiduals to consciously change their brain activity (EEG waves) and therefore modify their behavior and cognition. Some of its clinical uses are for migraines, ADHD, and PTSD
In a study (RCT), neurofeedback (30 minutes, 5 sessions weekly, 4 weeks) was applied to 40 patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). FMS patients have lower serotonin and widespread pain in their muscles and bones. After 2 weeks, patients experienced less pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression

Massage

Massage therapy decreased cortisol and raised serotonin and dopamine in a broad population with stress-related health problems in 3 studies
In one (RCT) study, 24 adults with low back pain were either given two 30 minute massages per week or subjected to standard relaxation procedures over the span of 5 weeks. Urine serotonin levels were higher in inpiduals who received massage therapy

Acupuncture

In a randomized clinical trial, 75 women with fibromyalgia, acupuncture increased levels of serotonin in the serum, compared to placebo
In rats, acupuncture-like stimulation increased serotonin activity in certain regions of the brain

Light Therapy

When sun exposure is not possible, bright light therapy can help increase serotonin levels
Bright light therapy (photobiomodulation) shows promising results for depression based on clinical trials
In a study of 10 women with chronic headaches (observational), 34 seconds daily use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) significantly increased serotonin levels after just 3 days
In a study of 25 drug-free hospitalized veterans with depression or bipolar disorder, bright white light improved depressive symptoms. However, further testing needs to be done on the negative consequences of long-term light treatment

Vagus Nerve Stimulation

Long-term vagus nerve stimulation (14 days) increased serotonin levels in rat brains
In rats, sustained vagus nerve stimulation for 14 days also increased the action of serotonin

Testing Serotonin

Serotonin that gets released into the blood gets rapidly broken down in the liver and lungs, to inactive metabolites (such as 5-HIAA) that are excreted in urine . That is why normally, blood and urine contain very small amounts of serotonin. Larger quantities of serotonin in the blood/urine can be found in people with serotonin-producing tumors (carcinoid tumors).
Beware of the use of urine serotonin levels to check for “neurotransmitter imbalances”. While the companies providing these tests state that the levels in urine correspond to brain neurotransmitter levels, science has repeatedly shown that this is not the case
Serotonin doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier. Even if it did, it is released intermittently and influenced by many different stimuli. Furthermore, levels differ within different parts of the brain. And finally, values differ for the same person from one day to another
In addition, companies have been known to intentionally use extremely narrow ranges, without any scientific support whatsoever, in order to sell supplements to their clients
If you do have neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain, more reliable tests of serotonin levels are cerebrospinal fluid tests or measurements of serotonin in blood platelets
A PET scan is the only direct way to detect changes of serotonin production in specific areas of the brain
Serotonin Risks and Safety
Excess serotonin may result in serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. Usually, though, serotonin syndrome is a result of drug interactions. No cases have been observed just from safe, natural approaches
MDMA, LSD, and other synthetic drugs may cause serotonin syndrome, and should not be taken without medical supervision or outside a psychotherapeutic environment
Most of the studies mentioned above were performed on adults. More research involving children is needed in order to determine safety.
Abnormally heightened levels of serotonin (hyperserotonemia) is a consistent finding in inpiduals with autism. Pregnant women with hyperserotonemia are more likely to give birth to children with autism

Drug Interactions

The use of St. John’s Wort, SAMe, or lithium simultaneously with serotonergic drugs like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO-I), and triptans, can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, a life-threatening and potentially fatal condition

Limitations and Caveats

Some of these studies have fairly small sample sizes. Additionally, many of these natural methods of increasing serotonin in the body have only been tested in animals and need further research in humans through clinical trials.
In addition to the concentration of serotonin, both the number of serotonin receptors and their sensitivity may also play an integral role in determining serotonin activity.
Though serotonin is mostly made, stored, and released in the gut, serotonin acts as an important neurotransmitter in the brain. Some of these natural remedies and supplements need further testing to determine if they are able to cross the blood-brain barrier. Long-term application of these remedies should also be further studied.

2024.05.13 13:15 weissofthepool Bladesworn Rework Proposition

(This is a mostly COMPETITIVE centered post)
As right now Bladesworn is in a very bad spot, Sure it can pump damage but is very clunky and very unreliable.
Here is my proposition of how to change it to a better spot nit only by number tweaking.
Problem number 1: Casting and Aftercast animations
This spec have very annoying casts and aftercast with the ones more well known as the dragon trigger and the Artillery Slash and most of it comes by the fact that gunsaber has ranged and melee in the same skill, way to fix it is to separate them and making gunsaber into a flip stance weapon.
Make the weapon have 2 stances one for melee and other for ranged and so you can accurately tweak the skills.
The Melee component of the gun being the strong dps and the ranged being focused on cc and rapid firing at 900 range.
The melee component of the weapon allowing for gap closing and damage and ranged for rapid firing and ccing removing long casts and aftercasts.
This will be important for what i am going to propose next.
Problem number 2: Dragon trigger
Outside of PVE this skill straight up is bad it is slow it has the biggest charge up in the game for mediocre damage in competitive and offer nothing other than damage.
My idea to fix it is to remove charging all together and set an damage and scaling for it.
Now how would you access the dragon trigger you ask? by using f1 and f2 and directly using it.
why only 2 skills? cause you access it by changing the weapons burst with the stance like i mentioned before having access to Dragon trigger - Force when in melee and dragon trigger - reach in ranged and having the Dragon trigger - Boost always available.
The 4 and 5 skill of
Problem number 3: Grandmaster Traits
The traits of the are focused on being in the charge up animation and the subsequent damage and in this new setup it would be underwhelming or not work all together.
My idea here is to add a new mechanic to Bladesworn and reworking the dragon scale defense, Make this trait to apply a unique status on the enemy called "Rend" And it works as a vulnerability but doesn't stack and only makes them receive 5% more damage from the Bladesworn it is applied when hitting from range, And a secondary component to it is whenever you hit in melee range it consumes the rend and grants buffs to allies around the bladesworn.
Here comes it grandmaster traits you can choose which buffs you want to be granting.
Immortal Dragon: Grants Regen, Protection and heals for a set amount, Blasting a grenade under the bladeworn that deals low damage but grants the buffs also is a blast finisher.
Unyielding Dragon. Makes the Dragon triggers unblocked and grants Might,Fury, and apply vulnerability with blast finisher.
Daring Dragon: Grants Alacrity, and aegis and swiftness. and also blast the area.
Problem 4: Flow
This one goes for adrenaline too they should be depleting resources instead of a charging one and Allowing for fast recharge via skills or completing actions and traits.
Problem 5: Utility skills
Or they will become useless in this change or already are.
my proposal of change on underperforming utility or will be useless after changes
Electric Fense: just make it reflects projectiles already or allow shield trait to affect it
Dragonspike mine: Recharges slotted Dragon triggers and knock back enemies.
Tactical Reload: Recharges all ammo skills and your next attack will unleash a overloaded ammo to explode dealing extra damage. (if ranger can have a all weapon skill recharge with massive buffs I don't see where why warrior cant have all ammo recharge on a elite)
Hopefully this would make the class more fun and more viable and adding something to make the spec more high skill sealing but keeping the skill floor.
if you have ideas and criticism about my change ideas please comment here.
