2024.05.14 04:47 BassMan854 Is there such thing as "too low" mileage?

I've come across a few Corvettes for sale (C7s) that are in the 2014 to 2015 years but only have around 3K miles. For example, the Carfax on one showed that the owner drove it for a few years and then it sat with no additional miles for the next 4 -- perhaps he/she became ill -- and then it was sold with no additional miles. So, I'm wondering if it's bad for a car to be hardly driven for 9 or 10 years, and/or for it to sit undriven for a long time, as in that example?

2024.05.13 20:50 MacroMachines Kraft looking to sell off Oscar Mayer, reportedly

"Kraft Heinz has tapped Bank of America and Centerview Partners to gauge interest in the business..."
https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/kraft-heinz-exploring-sale-oscar-mayer-business-wsj-reports-2024-05-13/
According to the article, Kraft wants to sell Oscar Myer because it is seeing less consumer interest in buying their hot dogs, bacon, ham, and bologna. They are citing "healthier options" as the cause for this decline.
More realistically I suspect, consumers are hurting and more reluctant to pay a premium for the Oscar Myer brand when there are tons of cheaper options, especially for stuff this type of meat.
Now, I am a turbo dipshit, but feel like that is a pretty bearish trend if folks have begun cutting corners on stuff like hot dogs and bologna.

2024.05.13 20:39 MK7DM96 [FS] [US-MA] Lenovo PC, ix4-300d 12TB NAS, Cisco Switch, 24 port UniFi, Cloud Key, R210ii, and more

I'm looking to sell most of my home lab gear that i've purchased or inherited within the past couple of years. Prices are based off of completed sales prices online for equal or similar gear in a used/like new condition. Prices are very fair, but i'm willing to negotiate within reason. My GF and I were recently displaced due to a building fire, and I need to recoup $ spent on relocation etc, and downsize my gear.
ALL gear was tested and fully functional in a 'homelab' environment. Everything will be reset to defaults before shipping, if applicable.
Sale via PP Invoice ONLY - Local sales - Cash or PP invoice.
S&H = Shipping and Handling.
Will negotiate prices if sales are local pickup/meet up.
I also have containers filled with misc IMPORTANT "junk". Cat5,6, Power cables, Display Cables and adapters, various LC/LC connector Fiber cables (5m, 10m, SM, MMF etc), SFPs, unmanaged desktop switches, docking stations, various 'specialty' tools (mostly self made tools) and other goods collected throughout the past couple of years or so. Feel free to ask, I probably have it - and will likely just charge S&H cost.
Timestamps with photos below. Will be adding more items and photos as I unpack them.

2024.05.13 20:22 Avery_H_ Trying to figure out which Ej I bought

Hey guys, I recently swapped a jdm ej20 into a USDM body and got a crank but no start. I changed out the crank sprocket and now I’m planning on changing driver side intake cam from usdm engine. I wanted to make sure my engine didn’t need a tune before I run it though. It was listed for sale as a non AVCS twin turbo engine. The heads say RHB 005. I have the Intercooler and everything on so I can’t check the number on the bell housing. Does anyone know what year or car this could have came out of? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.13 17:10 Wandereru 2009 Lancer with Volkswagen 2.0 engine - Is it a good buy?

Hello!
I am looking to buy a Lancer which is currently on sale but have questions about it and want to hear your opinions.
How good/reliable is the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 DID INSTYLE? It has a Volkswagen 2.0 turbo diesel engine with 140bhp. The owner told me he removed the DPF filter 10 years ago as it was causing the DPF filter light to go on. (Unsure how it goes through annual inspection).
It has 280k kilometers on it. Has new springs(?) and shock absorbers, new brakes front and back, new front brake calipers. At 270k he said he did general maintenance on the engine.
It has 18 inch rims with tyres for 1 more season 16 inch rims with winter tyres are included but are also only good for 1 season
Price is 5000€ but will likely go down as I don't want the roof rack and box he is providing with it and generally haggling is expected at a good 4000€.

Kind regards

2024.05.13 13:14 deimosphob N54 turbos on a lexus 1uz? (I’m cheap)

I keep on seeing n54 oem turbos for sale in decent condition on marketplace and was wondering if it would be possible if at all viable to pair them with a 1uz vvti? Ik theres a whole liter of displacement difference between the engines 4.0 uz vs 3.0 n54 but I do want low end torque and am not looking for more than 50-100hp in gains as Ik the trans isn’t good for it. Also i really like turbo noises.
Id probably be mounting where the cats are supposed to be since headers are a b on these cars, also it’d be cool to have it hidden lol. Also piggyback to keep stock trans. Im just not really adept to what calculations need to be made to find the right sized turbo and was wondering if anyone here could help.

2024.05.13 03:30 scarfleet as at least 3 of you are aware Cultic is really cool

Because that is the number of people who recommended this game to me in a post I made last week announcing the successful completion of my first home build, created specifically for this genre, and asking for recommendations.
I did not say at the time that it would result in your being subjected to a series of book reports by me on most of those titles over the next several months because I did not know it. But I probably should have known it so I still apologize for not disclosing this consequence.
I wishlisted everything I have not already played on console but to start I chose Turbo Overkill, Amid Evil, and Cultic. Of the three Cultic was the least expensive despite being the only one not on sale. In general I am less fond of boomshoots with flat sprite enemies like this so I thought it would be my warmup before I moved on to the other two which I expected to prefer. That apparently was wrong. I am having such a blast with Cultic that I have not yet touched the other two.
I guess it is inspired by Blood which I have not yet played. My primary context right now is the Quake 2 remaster which I fell in love with on xbox (it was the game that finally pushed me to PC to increase my access to this genre). And as someone who connected hard with Quake 2 in 2023 I am finding Cultic to be exactly my flavor of combat. Like Quake 2 it is about fast movement around corners and down sightlines, noticing the timing of enemy shots and weaving around cover dynamically. But Cultic's arenas are far more expansive and gunfights play out over greater distances. Both you and most enemies are glasscannon so weapons feel powerful and all fights are dangerous. The slide is great and makes the game feel springy and kinetic. Right now this is all hitting for me.
Also I noticed it gameifies light really well for one of these games. You will crawl through lots of dark pits filled with waiting ememies. Your primary tool for this at first is a lighter, which is very good at illuminating a small radius but also very dangerous to use since it allows enemies you cannot see well to see you very easily. So the choice to use it or not and when becomes this lovely emergent stealth piece of a boomshoot gunfight. Maybe others have done that but this is the first time I personally have noticed it. (Did Doom 3 try something like this? I wasn't really into that game.)
My only nitpick so far is that I am finding it slightly stingy on ammo. I hunt for pickups and secrets, I rarely run out completely. In some ways the game is resource generous because your health slowly regenerates to 25 if it drops below that and axes are unlimited since even if you throw them you can just pick them up again. You're never just screwed. But when it comes to guns I usually only have ammo for maybe two at a time and I often just can't use the best gun for the gunfight.
The guns are mechanically great for the most part. This is one of my favorite pistols I have found in this genre, and also one of my favorite grenade launchers. Shotgun is fine but it's Doom school with especially bad dropoff for range. There are weapon upgrades so that probably can be improved. I will say I don't think the weapons are all that interesting, they appear to just be your standard shooter archetypes (pistol, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, sniper, launcher). But they feel great, have alt fires, and work well for this combat.
For context I am just cruising through on normal with my controller (was always my plan). I got to a boss or something that gave me a little trouble until I realized I was meant to use one specific tactic and then it became trivial. The game certainly is benefitting from being the maiden voyage of my first gaming pc as it runs atrociously smoothly and I am finding it incredibly immersive which is why I like these games. I have been watching system temps just to see but it does not look like it's taxing the system at all. This toy I have built has the potential to dangerously escalate my gaming addiction and I need to watch that.
The sprite enemies are fine. Not my favorite, it feels like I'm on a themed shooting course with cardboard cutout bad guys who shoot back. But I don't really care since I like the gameplay so much. It is the best version of that visual choice that I personally have seen.
There is key hunting but the environments make sense as places and are easy to remember. Do I still want the compass from the Quake 2 remaster, of course I do. But so far navigation seems good and thoughtful. No map, unless I am an idiot and have missed it somehow.
Anyway! Cultic is really awesome and I plan to finish it. Thank you to all who suggested it.

2024.05.12 17:53 TallenAtear unRAID v6.12.10 First 42Tb Build Update

https://preview.redd.it/k5x3ugauda0d1.jpg?width=1742&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa68491c325e85b36c0b978fe9d43551009fcf50
nks to all that pitched in with suggestions and comments, it's all working flawlessly and I am getting good write speeds of over 250mb/sec. I moved some drives around made a DYI drive cage that could fit 3 drives easily but only put two in it.
6 of 11 drives populated for 42tb, Max Array speed with Turbo Write (165-200Mb/s consistent for over 1hr)
Hardware;
2hrs into backup migration my array temp is 42.2c (41-43c) I could add more cooling but the overall backup is <30mins once this is all caught up and it took quite some time to reach 42c.
The case was just a budget case <$150can, and although it said it could hold 8x3.5" drives, in reality, it has mounting for 5 drives: 3 drives in a floor tray and 2 in a back removable tray bay that works as an oven when two drives are in it. so I did some DYI Mounting. All in all, it is working very well with no drama. I have lots of spare drives, but I'm going to add space as I need rather than using disk life and power for nothing.. Adding more will also put me to the next license level, where I'll probably end up anyhow with 6 & 4tb drives in a pile looking at me.
This was made to replace my Drobo 5N, which was "working" but dreadfully slow, being 1gbe and freezing here and there, with very slow transfer as it filled up. With the company dead it was not a great option to use any longer. My main ServeNAS is an 81.8Tb Synology DS1821+ with a 10Gbe network card; this unRaid build is just for local non-critical backup, so 2.5Bbe is fine in my use case. I don't need a cache drive because its sole purpose is backups. Daily backups go to an offsite NAS; this is just used for a weekly power-on, backup, shutdown, 2nd disconnected copy. Ultimately, it may be used for more since it seems to run well vs the Drobo and is far more capable.
License Question;
Since I'm just on the trail (27 days), and although I have a stack drives making shreak cat eyes at me, I have put only 6 in the array (3x10Tb, 2x8tb, 1x6tb). Would it be best for now to go with the Starter at $49, and when it goes on sale, upgrade to Lifetime? For the next 6m-1year, 42Tb should cover my needs.
Update: 2024/05/13 @ 7:40pm; Now over 19.2Tb copied to the array with zero drama or issues. Avg temp 36.2c, Installed 5 new fans for crazy cooling. I moved the TB mounted on the back to the 5 in the front; I already feel the Raid Addiction kicking in; I can add five more drives... lol. I am now 1hr 30mins into full copy speed and array is 36c, so much better then yesterday..

2024.05.12 06:04 Old-Evening9609 Need advice for Houstonian

Been pining after a C8 since they came out , with a serious interest since last year. Each model year the price goes up (altho good to see the supply has caught up resulting in below msrp sales now!)
Saw the news that HSG was going away! That was neck and neck with RMM and the Riptide blue (now that ELB is gone!) I see a couple below msrp deals even on custom order from some of the NE dealerships that have high volume. Possibly final week to order a ‘24.
Anyways, onto advice part. Has anyone done a courtesy delivery in the Houston area? Instead of buy and ship from dealer on custom or inventory … i recall seeing they can have factory deliver local based on your local dealer’s fee? Interested in hearing about your experiences and also if it complicates matters at all to get an out of state purchased vehicle registered/titled here , and sales tax etc.
Second thing: for the Houston corvette owners, are there good dealerships for repairs and service in Houston area? That is the only thing that makes me more nervous given the (possibly overblown) reports of transmission and other issues. Not to mention the much discussed topic of the DCT filter and fluid servicing which would come up rather quickly as itll be my daily.
