2024.06.07 10:41 emapqm_ ESA Eastern Summit Academy / Infocus in Wonju, Gangwon-do

Google Earth coordinates: 37°19'37"N 127°59'07"E
ESA website Link)
ESA Eastern Summit Academy / Infocus Academy in Wonju.
Originally, the hagwon is called ESA but it moved to Infocus but it is still called Infocus ( "New" Infocus as written on the academy van) so the person who hires might give one of the two names. Here are some of the things that scream red flag to me:
Hiring One teacher whose native language wasn't English was hired with an illegal visa, the English degree was not checked, nor was the criminal record. That same teacher got their working contract 2-3 weeks after their first day.. Management only hires people with no experience, but they don’t want to deal with actual training/questions about teaching.
Training One teacher’s training was one week of non-paid work (The training period is actual teaching). But one other teacher’s training period was 3 days paid 75% of actual salary.
Teaching Teachers must come to teach on the same day or the following day of arrival in Korea. Teachers sometimes have to stop teaching in the middle of a class to ride the school van with younger students, leaving the students alone in the classroom, doing nothing. Teaching materials are very boring and last only a month and when one workbook is done, teachers have to wait 2 to 4 weeks to receive the new one. Teachers are given science, art, and maths books to teach to the students. Teachers have no time to lesson plan, or even to print any worksheet as there is only one PC and one printer for 6 people, including the owner. Teachers have to report every class to the parents through the classnote app but they can’t do it during working hours because they are so busy. Teachers usually stay 30 minutes more to write and send the reports. Those 30 minutes are not paid.
Salary Salary always comes few days late.
Working hours and break time Full-time teachers work more than 40 hours/week: 9:00 am to 6:30 pm. Part-time teachers don’t get the 30-minute mandatory break time. Moving day (From ESA to Infocus) was done on March 1st which is a red day and teachers weren’t paid.
More One teacher’s given accommodation had no bed and had to sleep on the floor for a few days. Communication between management and teachers is inexistent, teachers get scolded a lot for not following rules that were never stated, nor orally or in the contract. One teacher got scolded in their classroom in front of the students. Teachers don’t have any teacher room, or somewhere to relax between classes.

2024.06.07 08:47 ExtremeInternet846 Urgent Help Needed:Forced Out!!!

Hello everyone,
I am currently an au pair in Germany and have just experienced a sudden change in my situation. I've been with my host family for only four days, and yesterday, my host dad informed me that they have decided to terminate the contract. They feel that integrating a new member into their already established family system isn't necessary. From my side, I can somewhat relate to their feelings.
Their children are twin girls, only one year old, still crawling and not yet speaking, and have not started attending kindergarten. It seems the children primarily need the close presence of their parents, making it hard to accept a new caregiver. Over my short stay, I observed a well-established and somewhat closed dynamic between the children and the parents, who manage to coordinate their work schedules effectively with childcare. Initially, their post seeking an au pair mentioned help with the twins' kindergarten transition, but realistically, this seems premature given the children's age and attachment to their parents.
Moreover, my mobility within the house is quite restricted. For instance, after the children were asleep two nights ago, I needed to use the bathroom on the third floor. The mother, hearing me move, had to clarify my intentions, emphasizing that it was their private time, though she allowed me to use the bathroom since I don't yet have one of my own.
When they mentioned terminating the contract, the host mother expressed that my movements around the house sometimes left them puzzled about my intentions. This dialogue underscored for me not just that the children are too young, but also that the family’s dependency on their existing interaction does not lend itself well to involving an au pair. Their household dynamics and personalities seem to function best without external involvement.
This entire scenario feels hasty and ill-considered, particularly as this is their first experience hosting an au pair. The parents were not fully familiar with the procedures involved in integrating a newcomer into their home. My living area is still under renovation—my room lacks a door, electricity, and personal bathroom facilities, and I haven't been able to shower for two days due to ongoing construction.
Lastly, when the host dad talked about contract termination yesterday, he asked about my moving out today, seemingly unaware of the legal requirement in Germany for a two-week notice period. I haven’t even been registered at this address, which makes me question the legal validity of my contract and my ability to stay in Germany (I am not an EU citizen and this was my rematch host family). Despite having had an opportunity to join another family who needed help with a ten-year-old, I declined it to honor my initial commitment to my current hosts, who have already found another au pair.
I’m currently in touch with potential new host families but am concerned about my precarious situation. Any advice on how to navigate this or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your insights!

2024.06.06 21:23 Aldothegreen85 Lost in translation update

Now one key point of this intro is; its non limiting to the current game and opens up future development opertunities.
As it states in the loading screen endermen speak backward english (this is very interesting to know.)
As we now have copper iron and gold; i feel its only right to develop another off hand tool to progress the development of the game.
Idea 1: the minecraft translator. 2 iron ingots 2 gold ingots 2 copper ingots 1 redstone dust and 1 copper rod and 1 piece of string
Place item in your off hand while traveling and listen to what the mobs have to say
This reverses the backward english so we now can hear what the endermen say, how is this a benefit? what can this else help us with?
Idea 2: villager tasks for bonus rewards
Using the translator you can approach a villager and be given a task it could be a select amount of a ready stocked item (ie a fletcher asks "before sun set i would like 64 sticks and 32 flint for an enchanted arrow recipe." (You have until the villager goes to bed to make the trade) when you have the items in your inventory a special arrow is available for trade at the bottom of the master villager trade options, its a 1 off trade it will reset (to another special task) after the villager goes to bed
Idea 3: time and space travel via the ancient citys portal
With the translator in your off hand you can travel back in time to another dimension this is done via the ancient city portals and using specific blocks (*1) in the corners of the ancient city portal giving time travel keys to mine and collect more relics or items from the past in specific time periods
Such Relics could include
Prehistoric spears (using the trident dynamics)
Totems of riches/totems of protection - these totems are placed in the off hand and glow when close to ores/ hostile mobs or spawners
Prehistoric Ancient villagers carry a protection spear this spear can be used against the player if the player is violent or unknown to the village each village type requires a different peace offering to gain trust of the player this could be a food offering or seed offering it could be an item such as glass or specific type of stone once trust is gained leveling up villagers in the same way as before and bonus tasks are available after master level is achieved
(*1) Each world time delivers a different style of challenge Terrecotta- prehistoric/jurassic/neolithic cave people (villager tasks and puzzles) Quartz pillar- ancient greece/ancient romans (villager tasks, construction tasks, puzzles and combat) Gold block- ancient aztecs (puzzles villager tasks and combat) Iron block- iron age/dark ages (villager construction tasks/puzzles) Copper block/iron block- industrial age (villager construction tasks)
Idea4: cryogenics (frozen mobs within the ice biomes these are visually available by chance in the overworld. But can be planted via ancient city time travel placement so say we find a minecraft mammoth (*2) in a prehistoric village take a fence post and lead and place it somewhere in an icey biome at a specific Y level then travel back to the modern day and go to said coordinates with 4 glow stone and lava/water or another ice melting blocks to awaken the relic mob this takes time to complete and players will need to defend the mob as it defrosts (wolves zombies witches etc want the prehistoric mob as much as you do)
(*2) Minecraft mammoth 🦣 description: 3 blocks high like a camel, 2 blocks long like a polar bear 1.5 blocks wide like a sniffer. They can be tamed and ridden like a horse using apples and a saddle, similar ride speed to a camel or donkey they come in all colours (which sheep do but only if dyed; i mean who doesnt want a green mammoth? ) natural generation of mammoth colours are grey, dark grey, white, brown and black. Natural generation of the pink mammoth is rare. Mammoth can be sheared for wool and mammoth can also interact with goat horns (player holds a certain item and the mammoth will blow the horn). Bundles can be linked together and placed around a mammoths neck a similar dynamic to a donkey and chests. Wild mammoths travel in groups could be 2 adults or an adult and children. adults will be defensive in the presence of young mammoths like polar bears but they have 2 strategys fight or stampede, a mammoth stamped gives a hit damage like that of a trident from each mammoth that tramples the player, a mammoth swipe gives hit damage like that of an iron sword.
Idea5: old crafting skills
You place quartz pillar block in the corners of ancient city portal, the time destination rather than traveling back to the prehistoric ages with a terracotta block you travel to a roman style period and within this period you gain new crafting skills to co-inside with the modern skills you already have.
Roman concrete: like regular concrete but with the addition of a shell in the center of the table this block becomes stronger as it ages in air (remains a weak block in water)
Underwater roman concrete: like the roman concrete but with the addition of a prismarine shard this block becomes stronger as it ages in water (remains a weak block in air)
Roman spear: like the prehistoric spear but with an iron tip giving a higher damage still works on the same dynamics as the trident
.... to be continued

I've been submitting my resume for the past 4 - 5 months and haven't gotten as much as an interview. Is my resume lacking? Any opinions would be appreciated as I'm my family's financial backbone and this drought is having an impact.

The Shadows Speak
Chapter 13
Shadowcrest Commander Xelios of clan Starstrike
After the recapture of the capital, the Umbra alongside our new militia army went out to recapture lost settlements still under the remnants of the Xyrran forces. Their navy was utterly destroyed by the Terran fleet that arrived in between them out of FTL travel. That should not be possible with ‘standard’ FTL but if there is anything I know about the Terrans by now it is that they are anything but standard. They break every mold that have been recognized and tested for millenia.
Their medical knowledge is extraordinary as well. After the conquering of the capital, and surrender of the Xyrran forces there, the large triage ships of the Terrans came. They were large but were still dwarfed by the three steel behemoths of the fleet.
The triage ships had large red crosses painted on them. It signified that they are a ‘humanitarian aid’, or in this case Alerian aid. The Red Cross has a long history about being in the thick of warzones, helping in any way they can. Medic centers, food aid, finding lost family members, they did it all and they did it well. After they landed it took a few hours and all their setups had finished and they began treating my people with the same diligence as they would with their own kind. It was wonderful to look at.
I looked over the remnants of what was once a bustling town. It became a makeshift stronghold of the leftover Xyrran soldiers. From the information of my scouts I got that the enemy forces numbered roughly 20000, and since I split up my forces to go to other locations I only had roughly 14000. The enemy had hunkered down on the top level, blasting away every entry point from the bottom, and turning every possible gun they had at the trees around them and the sky above. Guess they think they know what they are fighting here. They are even sorting out lights, making sure they have every part of their fortress lit up.
“Guess someone high up there knows about the Umbra soldiers.” came a voice from beside me. It was a subordinate commander of mine, Torian of Clan Sunrider. He was a friend of mine from my days in the planetary militia and a great warrior, able to shoot on the wing with such precision it would even make Gray impressed. “Indeed, Torian, and I don’t think we can do much about their sturdy defenses. I do believe we will need some assistance from our Terran allies here.” I said back as I studied the makeshift fort, looking for any weakness in. “I suppose. It feels wrong though, we should be the liberators of our homes.” Torian said with a huff. “Do not forget, my friend, that it is thanks to the Umbra that you are able to be here right now. They rescued you from being shipped off as a slave.” I answered back humorously. “And they also changed you. They mutated you, they are unnatural beings.” he said as he glanced at my COTAD, his feathers puffing a bit.
“I have accepted what I am now, and I have not mutated, I am enhanced, yes, but I am not mutated you gray tailfeather!” I shot back at him with a glare I learned from a Terran expression. It worked wonders as it made him hesitant. “I will contact Umbra HQ and see what they can offer to help. I don’t think it will be a lot since they are preparing to go further towards Xyrran space.” I continued as I started typing on the COTAD.
The COTAD was a wondrous item alongside the implants to my brain. I felt its power when I was commanding the entire Shadowcrest militia in the capital. My mind was processing information at such speed that It was faster for me to give out commands to my troops via my link rather than verbally.
“OS1, this is Shadowcrest, do you hear me?” I spoke into thin air. “This is OS1, I hear you commander, how can I be of service?” came a reply from the female operator. “I am at location Delta-5-4-7 south of the town of Tirindal. I request assistance to eliminate the enemy threat there that has made a stronghold within the town itself. We are currently undermanned to take on such endeavors. I will send you the info I have gathered now.” I said back as I sent the info file through the COTAD. “Copy that, Shadowcrest, info has been received. I will give you an update momentarily.” came a reply.
I waited for a moment in silence as I listened to the breeze. The tree branches swaying back and forth in a wave motion gave me a serene feeling. It was cut short as I heard a beep in my head. “Shadowcrest, this is OS1, we have gone over the intel and will be sending the sixth battalion of Raven division to assist you.” the operator said in a cheery voice. “And who will be commanding it if I may ask?” I added quickly, wondering who I will be working with. “That would be Lieutenant Major Gray, sir.” the operator replied. I was pleasantly surprised. I had not known that Gray had a promotion after we split ways on the OS but what was that new rank? I looked through the data in my mind about Umbra military ranks and saw that it has had an update.
A new NCO position has been made. Directly under the Major and acts as a field commander for a battalion. That was a very fitting rank for Gray. I felt happy for him, he thoroughly deserves it and I can’t wait to meet him again. “Copy that OS1, thanks for the info.” I replied, feeling a bit sheepish for not thanking the operator sooner.
“Well? Do we get reinforcements?” came an anxious reply from Torian. Indeed, we get Umbra reinforcements that will arrive in about 5 hours, a whole battalion of them.” I said with a click of my beak in amusement. “And how many is that exactly?” he asked with a worried expression. “About 1000 troops.” I said back as I looked over the town again, “it’s more than enough help for this rabble.” I continued as I clapped my beak in more excitement.
We flew down towards our temporary base that we had set up in the canopy further south of the town. It wasn’t much but it had its charm. A large tree with a sizable hole in it was the core of our HQ. Hanging tents and rushed platforms surrounded it on four levels with cable lines attached to walk past each floor. It served our purpose well.
We flew into the hollowed out tree, inside on the edges were boxes of ammunition and supplies. At the center was a hologram table with a few operators on mobile computer stations around it. It was a spacious place and was used as efficiently as possible. We landed a few meters away from the table, and of course the first thing I hear is the grumbling of that old gray feathered veteran who just refuses to either retire or kick the bucket. “Well, good morning Zephyr, how is the scouting going?” I said in amusement, wondering if the old coot will get deja vu. “Bahh, nothing much to it, we are just harassing them a bit. Wait, we have gone through this before haven’t we?” he said as he scratched his head and looked puzzled at me.
“Yes, we have. It was when we were liberating our home and the Umbra came to help us.” I said with a beak clap. “Heh, and what? Are they already here again?” he mused as he swiftly looked around himself in anticipation. “Well, they are coming, a lot of them, but you are in the clear for now, they will arrive in roughly 5 hours.” I said with a light chirp. “Well at least we know they are coming, I almost molted on the spot last time they popped down from the canopy.” he said with a good amount of gruff. “Yes, yes, that is all well and good. Now let's get ready everyone, we have some powerful reinforcements coming and they might want to start attacking straight away.” I said over the crowd in the HQ. “Let's make sure we are prepared for anything when they arrive!” I then yelled as I got a unanimous ‘yes, sir’ from the crowd.
I told the troops that our allies will most likely arrive by landing crafts so I ordered them to create a clearing close by. I gave those coordinates to OS1 to give to Gray as he was not far out now. The rest was to wait and prepare.
Time went by slowly but I got a ping and a voice in my head when Gray and his men were about 15 minutes out. “Good to hear from you again my friend, oh I mean Shadowcrest Commander, sir.” came the sarcastic tone from Gray over the comms. “Please don’t call me that, you are my friend and that comes before rank in my book, ‘Lieutenant Major’” I said as I added my own blend of a sarcastic tone at the end there. He laughed for a bit then sighed. “It’s truly good to hear from you again Xelios. We will arrive at the landing zone in a few minutes. We will arrive in five Owl transports. We also have an experimental weapon with us.” He said as I could practically hear his smile through the audio. “Looking forward to seeing what that crazy crow Muninn has cooked up this time. See you soon.” I replied with a beak clap.
A few minutes later the transports arrived, their sleek black feather shapes glistening only slightly in the noon sun. I greeted them with my retinue of officers as first impressions are important. My soldiers had never operated with the Umbra directly. We were a rescue and cleanup crew during the capital battle and every order from the Umbra went through me.
I saw some familiar faces, Captain Harald, Captain Hayes, Lieutenant Kyle as well as former Lieutenant Erik, who has now been promoted to captain. I later received news that Kyle refused to be offered a higher rank since it would limit his ‘freedom’ but I think it would simply hinder his shenanigans. We took Gray and his captains back to our HQ and we went over plans on how to engage the hunkered down enemy.
“They are pretty well dug in there, it would be a hassle, even with an EMP from the Owl ships. They have strong choke points and anti air defenses.” Said Harald as he looked over the map and images on the table. “Indeed, we could wait for night and assault the enemy as is, but we could incur losses in the fighting.” Hayes said in his usual harsh demeanor. “Are there any Alerian prisoners in the town?” Gray said after a bit of strategic bickering between the officers. “No, there are none, the entire town was evacuated when the first signs of the Xyrran fleet arrived.” I answered as I looked inquisitively at him, wondering what he had in mind.
His face widened to a wicked grin. “Then there won’t be a problem. How long until your men are ready to engage them? We only need you to distract them for a moment.” he asked as he looked me in the eyes, the smile growing into a sinister one. “I figured, knowing you, we could be asked to engage immediately so I have ordered my men to be ready as soon as possible. “Good, then I’ll share this with you.” he said as he typed a bit on his COTAD and both me and every captain got a ping on their device. The information about the new experimental weapon flew into my mind and my beak dropped. I could see the eyes widening on the Umbra captains as they looked at Gray with a mixture of expressions. “How…this is an extraordinary weapon, and mighty dangerous as well.” I said after finishing going through all the files again. “Indeed, Muninn has created something vile this time. It won't affect Umbra soldiers but it will affect both the Xyrrans and your men, so once I give the signal, you must retreat your men to a safe distance.” Gray said with a stern look on his face.
“I’ll make sure my men will retreat after the signal is given.” I said as I saluted. He did so as well and we went over the strategy. My army will assault the enemy from the south and west sides, drawing their attention, meanwhile Gray and his battalion will attack with the new weapon from the north. The enemy is in a defensive position around the spaceports and lower areas around it, covering around a 3 km radius. Once the weapon is in effect, it will render ⅔ of their base off limit for us. We will hunt the remnants that will be outside the influence of the weapon.
An hour of preparation went by and my army was in position. Everyone seemed nervous but focused. This was one of the last remnants of the Xyrran forces on the planet. It could have been eradicated by the Terran fleet but that could have caused mass destruction of homes so it was decided to let Umbra finish off the remnants.
I was nervous, it was early afternoon as we entered the town silently. There were no patrols since they had been picked off by our snipers in previous skirmishes. We were now in range of the enemy stronghold. There were bunkers and walls of iron and slab, made from those cage crafting machines that trapped my kin. I saw guards at the walls, pacing nervously.
“Begin the assault.” I said in a commanding tone, and laser fire began spraying at the defenses of the Xyrrans. It took merely moments before they began shooting back. A light show of blue and red streaks of superheated plasma shone over a large stretch of the town. I flew higher to get a better vantage point. We were holding them back but casualties were beginning to mount on both sides.
“Commander Xelios, the payload is enroute. Retreat to a safe distance.” Gray said in a stern voice over the comms. I commanded my troops to retreat about 500 meters back as I watched a large black drone-like thing fly straight towards the enemy. It was carrying a large spherical shaped bomb. It increased its speed as I saw it impact close to the center of the Xyrran base. A large black smoke cloud puffed up in a dome shape, roughly 2 km wide in mere seconds.
“Commander, what is that smoke cloud?” Asked Torian as he watched the clouds barely move, containing themselves by some unseen force in that half spherical shape. “That is a new experimental weapon called the BAB-1 which stands for the ‘Black Ash Bomb’. It creates a thick cloud radius of about 2 kilometers where you can barely see 3 meters in front of you. There are fine particles mixed in it that will irritate the eyes of anyone who is caught within it but those fine particles will also cause the individual to hallucinate. They will see their friends as enemies or monstrous beings, hellbent on killing them. The Xyrrans caught within that cloud will kill each other like their life depends on it. It is truly a wicked weapon.” I said as I watched laser shots fire out of the cloud in all directions. “Why would they create such a weapon?” Torian asked again, his feathers puffed in fear.
“Because they are Terrans. It is in their nature to find optimal ways to hunt. And what better prey is there than one that is delirious and in a state of panic. They will always strive to be efficient, for that is what they do best.” I said with a stern look, yet I felt joy creeping up in the back of my mind. I clapped my beak in laughter which shocked Torian. “Guess I have been influenced by them a bit.” I said as I could hear the faint screams of the Xyrrans trapped within the giant black cloud.

My favourite avatars under $5 and a little breakdown of each one
Prices will change depending on the value of ETH, and if someone decides to snap up some gems from the floor… or try and undercut the floor :/
The Merchant - Rojom Secondary $2.01 Great hat trait. Cute snoos. DINOSAURS! Background works great with a bunch of mashups. And it’s a ROJOM.
Fragile Thoughts - withspaces Secondary $3.87 Really cool 3D looking piece. Background almost black, good for mashups. Cool hidden trait that starts from the legs.
CIRRO - hessicajansen Secondary $2.90 Very cute avatar with a lot of cool traits. It also has a hidden anatomical heart, and a cool trait that covers the whole snoo that can only be seen once purchased. Massive head in the hex, and cute eyes that mash well.
Chromatone - Red Halftone Secondary $4.63 Just a very cool colourful avatar. You can change the tone if you want to colour coordinate. Looks awesome in the hex.
Nothing - GlowyMushroom Secondary $3.87 I really like nothing… hehe. The transparent body trait is very cool, and the wings that you don’t see until purchased are a nice added touch. The bottom trait gives it that floating effect which can be great for sky/space backgrounds.
The Puzzle Solver - Tandizojere Secondary $3.48 The fact that this is a $24.99 avatar in the shop makes this a steal. It’s a great black and white piece and with the right avatars it can make for some cool mashups. The artist has also had his work displayed in galleries.
The Embalmer - Pollila1 Secondary $4.25 Some great traits come with this avatar. That little crown fits well on a lot of avatars, and it still gives your avatar decent space in the hex. The legs have a hidden trait that show up under the body, too.
The Fracture - Conall-in-Space Secondary $3.87 I can’t believe this was a $49.99 avatar. The colours stand out in the hex. Conall really makes use of the space at the sides so you can see that come through in the hex, too. Cool eye trait. Just a great piece that really shouldn’t be that price but lucky it is.
12: A gift from Qugmo - QUGMO Secondary $3.87 Behind that present is a cool set of drums. And hidden behind those drums is a cool little drummer boy. And behind that drummer boy is a very cool background. Bonus little snoo hat trait that looks great banging on the head of your favourite avatar.
What are your favourite avatars that are relatively cheap?

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A New & Very Different Day

Grant watched the night sky from the front porch of his log cabin. He had acquired what he referred to as his very own small patch of dirt on the outskirts of town not too many years prior to that night and had grown accustomed to his nightly routine.
“You can’t see the sky like this in the city,” he sighed to himself, trying his best to seem content with where he was.
But the cabin wasn’t a place of relaxation and contemplation. It was more of a staging area for random thoughts and fears. For years, Grant had been one of a small segment of the population that believed that the government and the top 1% were up to something behind closed doors. He could never quite put his finger on what, let alone articulate it, but he was dead certain that — whatever it was — it would harm the general population, and more importantly, him.
Day after day, Grant read reports and articles about strange occurrences — incredible feats of science, resources, and technology that would vanish into thin air along with the people who invented or discovered them. And the entire population, so tangled up in its own dramas, would almost instantly forget that any of these things had ever existed. In Grant’s eyes, that was the way the status quo had always been kept. People were tied to their debts, their health issues, their marital problems, and their purposeless jobs that they couldn’t bear to lift their heads for more than the minute it would take for them to see the blatant truth that was right in front of their eyes.
He believed, now more than ever, that the society as a whole had been held back for hundreds of years, and the more he thought about it, the more it maddened him. What was possibly the most infuriating, nigh-on mania-inducing element of it all was the fact that he considered himself more mentally agile and adept than those he regarded as sheep to the slaughter. However, the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ of what was going on beneath the surface had him stumped.
So, resigning that two (or multiple) heads were better than one and that he could not possibly crack the code on his own, he launched a group. They called themselves the ninety-niners, on account of being part of the 99%. They’d share information and, in recent weeks, they had even begun coordinating group training sessions. The agenda of those training sessions — you might ask? Combat and survival.
Still, on most nights, Grant would stare up at the stars with his random thoughts bobbing in and out of the thin veil between his consciousness and the collective pool that we all have hidden just beneath that fascia-like divider. As the lights above twinkled and shone with no rhyme or reason, contemplation would take him down the rabbit hole until it hurt to think anymore.
On that particular night, though, something caught Grant’s attention. But it wasn’t from the stars above — at least not at first. It was more toward the city skyline and it was just visible through the tree line ahead. There were several low-pitched sounds and a couple of bright lights that came closer into view. The hairs on the back of his neck stood and his ears pricked up. There was a sickly anxiety that hung in the air and enveloped him, squeezing the air from his lungs and prompting his heart to thud in his ears instead of his chest.
‘What is that?’ he thought
At first, there were just two or three. Then, they disappeared. Grant bolted for the door, tripping over the frame on his way and catching himself on the palms of his hands. He jolted as a splinter dug itself deep into his right palm. He composed himself as quickly as he could and made a beeline for his telescope, which was propped up against the wall of his bedroom, where he often continued his stargazing when it was too cold to sit on the old porch.
Grant made his way back outside and set the telescope up. He searched the sky frantically and there was no sign of them. He had no idea what they were, but there was no way he’d be leaving that spot anytime soon — even with the chill of early fall lapping at his cheeks.
Almost as quickly as they had disappeared, they reappeared. Slightly off to the right from where they had been before.
‘Military aircraft?’ he thought. ‘But the proportions and distance. It just doesn’t add up.’
Grant paused for a moment and it finally hit him. This wasn’t human. He always thought that there was life beyond this plant — the mere fact that human beings had always believed that we are the only sentient beings in the entirety of the universe was laughable to him.
The disappearance and reappearance of the lights went on for a while — emerging from the darkness of night every ten minutes or so.
Finally, the lights headed toward the sky with a rumble, ascending to about 30,000 feet. Grant pulled his thoughts together. This could be some new type of aircraft — secret military aircraft perhaps. The lights hadn’t managed to surpass the average altitude of a passenger aircraft though. But just as soon as the thought had entered his mind, the sound stopped and the lights changed from a constant blue and white light to an even brighter white light that flashed like a strobe.
He hadn’t thought to check his phone but he knew that social media had to be abuzz with this. Surely, he wasn’t the only one seeing these lights. But as he retrieved his phone from his pocket and opened the news app, his face paled. He moved to find a chair behind him and almost missed it completely. The first set of lights shot up into the sky and Grant took his eyes off his phone for a brief moment to watch them.
He wondered if what he had seen on his screen would happen here, near his cabin.
All of a sudden, a deafening whooshing sound ripped through the night. It was as if all of the aid had been sucked up behind those lights. Then it came again — this time from deeper in the city. Even at that distance it still shook the cabin. There were at least 30 lights that all launched at the same time.
Grant raised his phone and looked at the news feed. Dozens of videos of onlookers in the city painted a grim picture. Huge buildings crumbled to the ground as massive ships emerged from beneath them and launched into the sky. It was like something out of a horror movie and for a second, Grant thought it might be some type of elaborate prank carried out by one of the members of the group. There had to be some logical explanation.
The man who had always known that there was something beyond our world found himself, for the first time, wanting to be incorrect.
But he wasn’t and this definitely wasn’t a prank, unless one of the group members knew someone at just about every other news outlet in the country. They were all reporting the same thing — that anyone near the dozens of launch sites was instantly killed when the ships activated their ignition systems. People were told to evacuate the cities as quickly as they could — no holds barred. It was every human for themselves. As Grant looked at more new feeds, his head swum as he witnessed the atrocities unfolding in every major city on the planet. All the while, the wind carried a pungent aroma through the air. It smelt like wet cement and something else — something that reminded Grant of the weekends on his grandpa’s farm, when he’d spit roast a whole hog. It was the unmistakable smell of burnt flesh and hair, and it breezed across the countryside in plumes.

Chapter 2: Escape

Jake MacGregor exited the elevator and turned the corner, heading left down the clinically clean hallway. His front door was the very first on the right and he stood in front of it for a moment, allowing the events of the day to wash away, before going inside. With his line of work, Jake always set a high level of importance on keeping his occupation and his home life separate. The life of a Peace Officer and the working persona were hardly compatible with that of a father and husband, after all.
After a cleansing sigh, he reached down and gripped the door handle — its cool steel snapping him back into reality. He turned the handle and slowly pushed the door forward. Almost as if it were magic, he plucked up the fortitude to transform his expression from stern to happy as the sight of his family came into view. He laid his eyes on his wife, Mara, in the kitchen.
“Hi, honey,” Mara beamed, not taking her eyes off the bubbling pot of soup she was stirring furiously.
Jake genuinely chuckled this time. His wife was an amazing woman; an incredible wife and mother. But she wasn’t the best cook. She knew one setting on that stove and whether the pots bubbled over or took too long to heat up, that was the setting she stuck to.
Jake gently reached over her shoulder and turned the dial back to 2.
“It smells great,” he assured her. “Could probably do with a simmer now.”
Mara smiled knowingly.
Jake left her to what she was doing as he set his bag and jacket in the adjacent closet. His smile got bigger and his eyes got wider as he walked back toward Mara. She looked back up from her cooking only for a minute to smile at her husband and say, “Are you ok?”
But Jake didn’t reply. He just smiled and offered her a single peck on the cheek.
As he prepared to leave the kitchen, Mara spoke up again.
“You have a message,” she said with a more serious note in her tone. “On the portal.”
Jake nodded.
As he walked over to the Portal and tapped on the monitor, he heard Mara call out, “It's the one with the security clearance.”
He frowned as his heart rate picked up. It wasn’t so much to do with what the contents of the message might be but more to do with the fact that he had given express instructions not to be disturbed at home. He had gone to great lengths to ensure that his home life and professional life met on as few occasions as possible. The office wasn’t to contact him here unless it was…
URGENT
The message stood out from the rest like a sore thumb.
‘That’s weird,’ he thought as he pulled up the message.
The message wasn’t from work, nor was it from anyone that he knew. He checked the sender’s data.
“It’s been stripped,” he said under his breath.
“What’s that?” Mara asked.
'Apparently not soft enough.’
“Nothing,” he called back as he entered his security code and played the message.
An older woman appeared onscreen and he immediately turned the volume down to a barely audible level.
“Hello, Jake. You do not know me but I have a debt to repay your family for a kindness that your father once showed me. Despite this being a secure transmission, I cannot take any chances for the sake of your family and mine. Tomorrow morning at 10 AM, you need to be at 8215 West 3rd Street in the suburb of Mason. It’s just west of the city. You will need to knock on this door.”
An image of the address and the door appeared on the Portal screen.
“The man that answers will let you in. Please, Jake, I cannot tell you how important this is to your family and their well-being. You need to ALL be there at 10 am.”
The woman’s expression shifted from pained to calm as she said, “My debt is now paid, but I have and will wrong so many more before I pass. Goodbye, Jake.”
Jake tried to replay the message but it was gone. He grabbed a pen and paper, jotting the address down as quickly as he could before it left his memory.
“Daddy!” Tabitha, his youngest daughter, pulled his attention back to the present moment.
Jake jumped at the sound of her voice and composed himself.
“Hi, baby,” he said, kneeling down to look at her. “How was your day?”
But as his daughter began speaking, his mind raced with the message. The lives of his family and himself depended on being at that location according to the woman. But how could he trust a complete stranger? If the messenger meant to help his family with something, why would she be so cryptic? What if it was some type of setup? Jake wasn’t exactly a low-level worker. What if it was a kidnapping ploy?
“Daddy, are you listening?”
“Yes, darling. Of course, I am. But you go wash up now. Mommy’s made soup.”
“Yuck! I hate soup,” Tabitha scrunched her nose.
“But we don’t want to hurt Mommy’s feelings. She’s worked so hard on that soup,” Jake whispered.
“Ok, Daddy,” Tabitha conceded.
Jake didn’t get much sleep that night. The old woman's message played over and over in his mind. He flipped back and forth between going to the small town in the morning and just forgetting about the message altogether. One thing was for sure, he couldn’t bring himself to take Mara, Tabitha, and his eldest daughter, June, to some strange address on the instruction of someone he didn’t know. He wasn’t even certain of whether he could trust her or whether he should go.
Mara lay with her back to her husband that night, knowing from years of experience that Jake would never open up about anything job-related. She was almost certain that the message, which she couldn’t hear from the kitchen, was that in some way. He tossed and turned for most of the night, and by the time Tabitha peeked over the horizon, Jake had had about 5 hours of consistent sleep. He got up as quietly as he could and resolved that the message had to be answered. He had to make it to that address and he had to leave immediately in order to get there on time.
He washed up, got on his clothes, and stared at his wife for a moment. He would have kissed her, but the last thing he wanted was to wake her — and for her to ask where he was headed an hour earlier than usual. Instead, he walked into the bedroom that June and Tabitha shared, kissed them both on the forehead, tucked them in tighter, and left.
As Jake walked out of the building and climbed into his Autom, it traveled away from the rising sun toward the town of Mason. The Autom glided over the paved road below it like a breeze floating over treetops. The Autom came to a stop about 200 yards from the address in the message and Jake sat looking at the building. He looked down at his watch. It was 8:50 AM. He still had time to think this through one more time. As he stared at the building, he drank in its façade. There was not much to see — just a single-story building with only a couple of windows. The building had clearly been neglected for a long time. Weather wear had faded the exterior to a pale bluish-gray color and cracked the metal sheeting.
To the average person, the building would appear deserted and abandoned, but Jake's training told him different.
The large, poorly dressed man across the street was less concerned with what was around him than what was going on around the building. His baggy clothes on that warm morning gave away that he was hiding something.
‘Probably a weapon.’
A second man slowly walked around two edges of the building, never getting too far from the single door on the corner. The door was gray like the building, but there was something interesting about it. It was the type of door that they used to train with at the Peace Officer Training sessions: a solid metal door with reinforced hinges and probably a serious lock. There were also, most likely, a couple of armed guys on the other side.
Jake waited for about another hour until the appointed time then exited the Autom and walked toward the door. As he approached it, the second man arrived at the door almost in unison with him. Without saying a word, he opened the door for Jake.
Jake nodded and the man then said, “Good morning, Mr. MacGregor.”
There was no mistaking that they had been waiting for his arrival.
The man placed his hand on the small of Jake’s back and politely but ever so forcefully guided him through the door where a large service elevator waited for him. There were no armed guards as he had thought there would be, but there was nowhere for him to go but toward that elevator, and behind him stood the burly man who had opened the door for him. There were no windows or other doors. Just the steel sliding ones that opened as soon as Jake neared them.
He entered the elevator and, as the door closed behind him he turned around to see that the control panel only had one button. Without wasting a moment, he pressed it and began his descent. He took a moment to steady his breath and fix his jacket, palming his hair from his face and tucking it back. There was no denying his nervousness, but he resigned to take it one second at a time.
Several minutes later, the elevator came to a creaky halt and the doors opened. The elevator itself was very dimly lit as was the entrance, which was why, when the doors opened, and a slit of light blasted Jake’s eyes, the contrast from the top of the shaft to the bottom felt blinding. Jake squinted and his eyes took a couple of seconds to adjust. But as they did, he could see the blurry figure of a man as it entered his field of vision and reached out a hand. Out of force of habit more than any sense of politeness, Jake embraced the man's hand for what was a fairly regular handshake. It was then that Jake’s eyes allowed the man to come into complete focus.
“Hello, Mr. MacGregor, my name is Mr. Collins. If you would follow me to my office, I will try to explain what is going on.”
Mr. Collins led the way through the lofty lobby. There, must have been at least 200 floors after having descended for 7 minutes.
‘Average of 500 feet per minute… that’s 3,500 feet at least,’ Jake thought to himself.
As the thought settled in, the two men entered Mr. Collins’ office and he offered Jake a seat. Jake knew when a room was designed for a specific purpose. He had been in enough interrogation and interview rooms to know what the agenda might be. That room, however, was very different from what he was used to. It was clearly designed to put people at ease. At face value, it was set up to look like an office, but Jake could see the small differences.
“Thank you for coming,” Mr. Collins said.
“I’m eager to learn what all of this is about,” Jake replied as he looked at the family photos that lined the walls and the tabletop behind Mr. Collins. None of them were of him and his family. They looked like stock photos. The color scheme was almost too cheery and subtle against the beautiful wood floor and cabinetry.
Mr. Collins sat down behind the desk and motioned for Jake to take a seat across from him. Mr. Collins leaned forward as he adjusted his chair: a tactic used to elicit trust in the subject. Mr. Collins took a deep breath.
“Mr. MacGregor, are you familiar with the Solarists Movement?”
“Yeah, I have had to arrest some of them a few times when their protesting got out of hand. Other than that, I have never given them much thought.” Jake replied.
“The Solarists,” Mr. Collins continued, “have been around for a very long time. The movement originated over 500 years ago when a few scientists and a couple of politicians got together and released a statement saying that the Jodon sun was going to explode and destroy the solar system. These individuals were charged with various crimes and the ones that did not recant were sent to prison where they died a short time later.”
Jake nodded and said, “OK, so what does that have to do with what I am doing here today?”
“It’s true, well most of it anyway.”
“What — that a bunch of crazed rebels were thrown in jail and subsequent Solarists have continued to run amok ever since or the part about the sun exploding?”
“The part about the sun,” Mr. Collins said apprehensively.
“You’re kidding, right?” Jake sniggered, looking around the room.
“Well, the sun is not going to explode, but it is changing. Within a couple hundred years the Jodon system will be uninhabitable for any life.”
“You’re serious?”
“We hadn’t planned on telling this to anyone for a long time, but changes to the solar weather patterns have caused us to move up our timeline.”
“Moved it up by how much?” Jake asked.
“We have predicted that within the next 48 hours, the sun will enter a time of increased activity that may last hundreds or thousands of years. A set of solar eruptions will shoot at least three of the largest solar flares toward our planet that we have ever recorded. We predict that these flares will cause devastation to technology the likes we cannot imagine. If this facility experiences even a short disruption of power our entire crop could be damaged or lost.”
“Crop? What do you mean by Crop?” he asked as he sat at attention in his chair.
Mr. Collins reached over to the desk behind him and picked up a small remote, almost as if he had done this one too many times for him to bear. He pressed the button that lowered a viewing Portal from the ceiling. He then pressed another button and a video started up.
The Portal showed a video of lights flickering in the sky.
“What is this?” Jake asked.
“This is happening in real-time on the other end of the planet. We hadn’t planned to launch so abruptly but the flares will ruin our plans if we don’t act now.”
“Plans for what?” Jake asked.
Sirens began blaring throughout the complex and Jake cupped his ears as a look of concern fell over him. Mr. Collins remained calm as he reached for Jake’s hand and stood up from his chair with Jake in tow. They left the room with haste and turned right before heading down a wide and well-lit hall. The perfectly white walls reflected the yellow light that was flashing from sirens along the top of them.
Mr. Collins began to speak and, for a second, Jake thought the man was speaking to him before he noticed the earbud in his left ear.
“We are going to have to move up our plans a few hours,” he said as continued to pull Jake down the hall. He then turned to look back at Jake and said, “The first couple of days will be difficult, but once you reach orbit, everything you need will be available to you.”
Jake planted his feet firmly and pulled his hand back.
“Orbit? What do you mean orbit?”
Mr, Collins was clearly frustrated by that move and replied, “Jodon is dying. I didn’t want to put this fine of a point on it but here it is. In the next 48 hours, Government officials and the elite who could afford a ticket are going to blast off in ships they have been building for hundreds of years. Once that happens, the whole solar system will know that they are doomed. The worlds will erupt in mass panic and chaos. This program was built to offer everyone a way to survive. This first crop of 300 Meso ships has to survive if the rest of us have a chance.”
“I can’t just leave!”
“The complex is currently being attacked and we need to launch now!” Mr. Collins barked, his calm demeanor beginning to crack.
“What about my family? I can’t just leave them.” Jake said in a panic, realizing that he should have taken them with him. In an instant, every choice he had ever made in his life rushed up to meet him. Keeping his wife out of the loop with work in a bid to selfishly carve out time for himself that was completely disconnected — shutting her out of a large piece of him in the process. He had good intentions. But that didn’t count for squat at that moment.
“If everything goes according to plan you can return in a couple of months to get them. There is communication gear in the ship that will allow you to contact them, but right now we have to go,” Mr. Collins insisted.
Jake could tell that Mr. Collins was getting bad news through the earbud and he nodded in the affirmative. He couldn’t believe that this was happening but he had a better chance of getting his family off this planet if he went with Collins’ plan. He knew that much for sure. Mr. Collins smiled as they traveled another fifty feet to spot in the wall where the corridor opened up to glass and an impressively huge underground complex.
The two men moved quickly and deliberately down a set of stairs toward the open bay containing the Meso ships. Jake looked them over as they walked toward his ship. They didn’t look like much. They were mostly an earthy-brown color with random stripes and patches of purple that blended into the brown around them. They had a small black nose on the front of them and Jake couldn’t help but feel a flicker of fear as the realization that they looked like large coffins Tabithaed on him. The door to Jake’s ship opened with a hiss and he immediately noticed that there was no way for a grown man to even sit up in them.
Mr. Collins yanked on Jake’s arm and said, “This one is yours”.
The ship was leaning up at a 45-degree angle. It was perched on a metal platform connected to a holographic control tower that stood about 4 feet tall. He felt a small but sharp pain in his right arm. He was in so much shock that he couldn’t tell what had happened until he saw the glint of a blade in Collins’ hand, followed by a warm sensation dripping down his arm.
“Hey!” Jake yelled, pulling back to swing on Collins.
“Relax!” Collins barked, raising a small pad to the bleeding spot on Jake’s arm. He watched as his blood pooled in a central dial on the pad. Collins then inserted the pad into a bay on the outer wall of the Meso ship. It slid in as if the ship was made of pudding and Jake did a double take as he went to touch the ship in the same place. It was as hard as stone again. He looked bemused as he couldn’t discern where the seams of a potential doorway were. It was almost as if there wasn’t one.
Mr. Collins pulled a brief smile, “ This will only take a couple seconds.”
From the far side of the bay, Jake could see and hear what appeared to be more than a hundred people rushing toward him.
“It’s ready,” Mr. Collins said as the ship pinged. “Good luck.”
He gave Jake a shove toward the Meso Ship. Jake stumbled a little and put out his right hand to catch himself — pressing his palm against the ship. This time, the surface of the ship was no longer hard and stiff, his palm fell through the skin like warm pudding. There was almost no resistance to his presence this time. Jake was able to regain his balance and he meant to turn back to Mr. Collins to scold him for pushing him, but something more pressing grabbed his attention… and his arm. The Meso ship was slowly and steadily pulling Jake into the ship. At first, it was just up to the forearm. Then, before he realized what was happening, it had pulled him in up to his shoulder. Jake began to panic as he turned his head to Mr. Collins for answers. But Mr. Collins just repeated his sentiments.
“Good luck.”
The man whom Jake had only met 30 minutes prior turned to walk away as Jake turned to face his fate. He looked up at the skin which was folding in all around him. As he did so, he began to lose consciousness. His head and left shoulder were pulled into the ship followed by the rest of him. The last thing he heard as the blackness surrounded him was the panicked screams of the people around him and several loud explosions as the ground began to shake.

Chapter 3: Revelation

Grant looked up from his Portal after spending most of the night scrolling through launch after launch from around the planet. He didn’t realize it yet, but this would be the event that he had long been searching for. The government and the 1% had really been planning something right beneath everyone’s noses: their escape from the solar system. As it turned out, they had been planning it for almost a thousand years — something he would come to learn.
“They’ve been stealing tech resources,” Grant spoke to himself as if to assure himself of what he was seeing.
The government had, in fact, been swiping these advances out from under their citizens — taking advantage of exceptionally intelligent scientists who no doubt weren’t going to be onboard those ships… not unless they were needed to keep them running or to repair them. They were using these people and their output to create these escape pods that would allow them to leave the system and escape a living hell on the planet’s surface — a living hell that would almost certainly end in certain death for them and their families.
All the puzzle pieces were beginning to come together and Grant began connecting the dots. As he looked at the faces of those screaming as they dashed away from the launch sites, he theorized. He felt that the ships were designed to remove key people from the planet but he just didn’t know why.
“Well, there can only be one reason why,” he sighed. “Something catastrophic is coming and they’ve known about this for generations.”
Grant had hit the nail on the head and as the entire planet’s population would soon find out, the 1% knew that they would never be able to rescue the whole system. There were too many citizens — tens of billions of people on this planet and close to a dozen others. It was a task they could never accomplish, especially if they were on a tight deadline.
“Wait,” Grant whispered to himself. “Is whatever’s coming going to destroy just us or all the planets in our system?”
He could tell that the elite had built enough ships for themselves and their families to escape. What he didn’t know was how severe it all was. Either way, the majority of the population was left to learn its fate — and learn they would.

2024.06.05 18:01 bceen13 Dinamic properties and buffer - how does it work?

Hey everyone,
I've been struggling for days with this puzzle. The following works for triangles, but I want to apply the same for the polygon shape with dynamic properties. (x1,y1, ... but for n number of props) It would be nice also to update the coordinates in the buffer.
Any help would be appreciated. ƪ(ړײ)ƪ
class Polygon extends Shape { __New(Colour := '', Filled := 1, Fillmode := 0, aPoints*) { if Mod(aPoints.length, 2) Throw Error("Polygon requires an even number of points") for v in aPoints { if Mod(A_Index, 2) prop := 'x' A_Index // 2 + 1 else prop := 'y' A_Index // 2 this.%prop% := v } this.PointsLength := aPoints.Length//2 this.PointF := Buffer(8*this.PointsLength) this.__Color := Color(Colour) this.__Fill := Filled this.FillMode := Fillmode ; alternate 1 winding super.__New() } } class Triangle extends Shape { __New(x1 := 0, y1 := 0, x2 := 0, y2 := 0, x3 := 0, y3 := 0, Colour := '', Filled := 1) { this.PointsLength := 3 this.PointF := Buffer(24) ; 8 * this.PointsLength this.x1 := x1 this.y1 := y1 this.x2 := x2 this.y2 := y2 this.x3 := x3 this.y3 := y3 this.FillMode := 0 ; always alternate this.__Color := Color(Colour) this.__Fill := Filled super.__New() } x1 { get => this.__x1 set => (this.__x1 := value, NumPut("Float", value, this.PointF, 0)) } y1 { get => this.__y1 set => (this.__y1 := value, NumPut("Float", value, this.PointF, 4)) } x2 { get => this.__x2 set => (this.__x2 := value, NumPut("Float", value, this.PointF, 8)) } y2 { get => this.__y2 set => (this.__y2 := value, NumPut("Float", value, this.PointF, 12)) } x3 { get => this.__x3 set => (this.__x3 := value, NumPut("Float", this.__x3, this.PointF, 16)) } y3 { get => this.__y3 set => (this.__y3 := value, NumPut("Float", this.__y3, this.PointF, 20)) } }

2024.06.05 11:54 Sweet-Membership-265 Unlocking Efficiency: The MEP Coordination Process

In the intricate dance of constructing modern buildings, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems play a vital role. These systems ensure comfort, safety, and functionality within the built environment. However, coordinating MEP elements can be a complex endeavor, prone to clashes and inefficiencies. Enter the MEP Coordination Process, a strategic approach to integrating these systems seamlessly.
At the heart of this process lies the utilization of Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM allows MEP Coordinators to create detailed 3D models that visualize the entire MEP network within a building. This digital representation enables stakeholders to identify clashes and spatial constraints early on, preventing costly rework during the construction phase.
MEP Coordinators act as orchestrators, leveraging BIM to streamline workflows and optimize the design and installation of MEP systems. By facilitating real-time collaboration among architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors, they ensure that each component fits together like puzzle pieces.
One of the key benefits of the MEP Coordination Process is its ability to enhance efficiency. By identifying clashes and resolving conflicts before they occur on-site, project timelines are shortened, and costs are reduced. Moreover, the accuracy provided by BIM minimizes errors and ensures a higher-quality end product.
In conclusion, the MEP Coordination Process, powered by BIM, is revolutionizing the construction industry. It transforms a fragmented and labor-intensive endeavor into a streamlined and collaborative process. By embracing this approach, construction projects can achieve greater efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and success.

2024.06.05 09:17 FruitNerd MCC Participants in House of Nightmares Day 3 + Comparison with MCC

Hannahxxrose and Sylvee Present: MCC Participants in House of Nightmares Day 3
Concept:
In Maplewood town on September 13th of the year 1984 a series of reporters have gone missing after investigating the mysterious House of Horrors. Inside ghosts, apparitions and monsters too horrifying to detail run rampant, intent on stealing the souls of any mere mortals who dare to step foot inside
Over the course of 5 days 150 Journalists (Participants) compete in a serious of spooky elimination based nightmares/games and tests within the House of Horrors with the last one standing being allowed to leave with their life still intact. The rest will have their souls haunt the House of Horrors for eternity. 1st receives 70k from the prize pool, 2nd getting 12k and 3rd - 20th getting 1k. As is currently stands there are 110 participants coming into Day 2
Surviving MCC Participants coming into the event for Day 3: Hannahxxrose, Sylvee, Sapnap, BadBoyHalo, Shadoune, PeteZahHutt, 5up, Fruitberries, Sneegsnag, FalseSymmetry, Rendog, Feinberg, Antfrost, RedVelvetIsCake, FireBreathMan, Apokuna, SpeedSilver, Gumiho, Seapeekay, CapitanGato, Wallibear, Awesamdude, Bekyamon, Iskall85, OwengeJuice, Acho, BaboAbe, Fulham, Couriway, OllieGamerz, Wolfeei, AntVenom and Purpled
Deceased MCC Participants from the previous days: Kratzy, JackManifold, DarkEyeBrows, Vixella, DrGluon, Cubfan135, LexieMarie and Tubbo
Twitch Rivals also has their own separate broadcasts with Jojosolos and Kara Corvus as commentators throughout the event which you can find on the twitch rivals channel
Game 5: Doll, Doll, Curse
Objective: Choose a doll from a selection of coloured sectors and get chased by an evil creepy doll. Each doll has a unique ability such as speed or fireballs depending on what is chosen. Participants will have to keep away from the dolls for 5 minutes by running through the house or hiding in items but these can only be used once. This happens until one person is eliminated or 5 minutes has passed and each participants have 2 hearts with the dolls dealing half a heart's worth of damage per hit. Every round the dolls get slightly faster faster
As there are many rounds I'll give you a general overview - a meta slowly emerges as one group consisting of FireBreathMan, Hannahxxrose, Sapnap, CapitanGato, Bekyamon, Feinberg, Shadoune, Rendog, OwengeJuice, BadBoyHalo and SpeedSilver (and another 10 or so participants) stay together. Together they work out essentially the best strategy which is to run to a corner down a corridor that gives a long view of both paths - Hannahxxrose deduces that as long as they don't pick the colour next to their pathway into the House the doll will never spawn next to them and they wont get chased off of spawn. When the rest of the participants arrive in the form of a big crowd they blend in to lower the chance of getting hit. It's a clever strategy and FireBreathMan works out that the participant mob tends to just follow Sapnap's direction and so tells him to call out loudly when they need to move and it works for the entire round as all of the MCC participants from that group survive
The other group consists of the rest of the tournament participants who run aimlessly in small separate groups together and essentially are always chased off of spawn by a doll. Purpled leads a group of FalseSymmetry, Sylvee, OllieGamerz, Apokuna and Fruitberries whilst Seapeekay, Antfrost, AntVenom, Iskall85, 5up, RedVelvet and Fulham all stick together for the most part. The remaining MCC participants are scattered over the House. Very early on there's a lot of screaming, crying, singing and panic as no one knows what is going on. RedVelvetCake gets an extremely unlucky spawn and gets tagged by the doll immedaitely in one of the beginning rounds and is eliminated. More chaos ensues and unfortunately BaboAbe gets disconnected from the server - as this technically counts as a death he isn't allowed to return - however Abe takes this very well and is good natured about it which is respectable. I'm unsure if there's a possibility for him to return but if so I'll update this paragraph if we find out. The rest of the rounds are as follows - one group gets caught up to by a doll and starts to rotate round the map and each group rotates with them accordingly. No more MCC participants are eliminated thankfully and all live to fight another fight
Comparisons with MCC:
Doll, Doll, Curse - I actually enjoyed, obviously the RNG elements of the spawning were somewhat underwhelming however the fright and panic that ensures with the problem solving from Hannah's group was really entertaining. It's kind of like PKT but PvE - I'm not sure this is directly translatable into MCC however (as I've said a couple of times now) it could be a great remix idea. Have something horrifying chase a big group of people down creates so much panic it's great even though it's probably not practicable. I will quickly add for Transform and Run is essentially prop hunt, for anyone who remembers the good ol' Gary's Mod days, and while I do think back to those days with a fondness it wouldn't really offer much more than PKT does nowadays
Game 6: Transform and Run
Objective: Over the course of 4 10 minute rounds players are divided into hunters and props - hunters have to catch the props and can choose from abilities that give either speed, extra damage or transformation into a prop and props cannot hide in the same position for more than 60s without becoming visible to the hunters. Each round the players are divided at random. Hunters gain 5 points for killing the props and lose 2 points (and hp) for hitting non props whereas props gain 2 points for surviving every 5 minutes and 5 points for completing puzzles around the house. Props can also gain abilities like speed and teleporting and will respawn as hunter when caught. The bottom 30 players at the end of the game will be eliminated
Sigh. Here we go
As I'm sure nearly everyone reading this knows pretty much everything that could go wrong in a major event did go wrong. Initially the participants had to wait for long periods of time to allow contestants to join the lobby and then to acclimate to the rules as they were large and extensive to understand which meant long waiting times. Instead of giving you lengthy a play by play I'll just give you a list of the facts of what happened in the game that are provable (a lot can be found on 5up's VOD review of the game):
At this point the whole tournament descends into chaos. The general consensus is that if the game was going to be redone it should've been restarted after round 1 OR an announcement at the end of the game stating that the game will be investigated due to the number of issues instead of the middle of round 4. Additionally the reason for restarting was stated due to "More clarification to everyone for the sake of fair play and restart the game with more clarified rules and help on how to complete the puzzles" which seemed to annoy a lot of people as everyone was given the same rule set therefore no one should've been disadvantaged by that. There are lots of opinions being wafted around, too many to explain in detail, but it takes a while for all the information to come out about what went wrong in the game. There is no general consensus for agreeing what the next step is however as everyone who won doesn't want to redo and everyone who would've been eliminated does. It's a shame that it came to this as the event was going so well but there's little else to be done at this point.
Player Shoutouts: I think this clearly needs to go to Hannah and Sylvee who kept there composure and did their very best to help everyone in the event through game 6. It's a tough situation to navigate with so many emotionally charged voices giving their opinion and they both did well in spite of that
I'd also like to give 5up, Antfrost and BadBoyHalo shoutouts for their calm and fair communication following Game 6 - so many people lost their minds and just blindly raged but I respect them so much for taking the time to explain their own thoughts on the matter as well as listening and understanding other peoples perspective too. 5up in particular actually made top 40 but was one of the only people arguing for the bottom 30 which I think speaks to his character. This also extends to every other participant who called out the fighting in discord and just how insanely seriously some people were taking it
As of current information Doll, Doll, Curse will be played again tomorrow and eliminate 30 additional participants to account for Game 6 not counting towards any eliminations. This means that 70 remain going into Day 4 instead of 40 and there will be 3 tasks this day instead of 2. Every MCC participant from today except for RedVelvet and BaboAbe will be playing
-
The tournament should be about different parts of the MC community and others in the streaming world coming together to play in an event. Just because you do not like someone for their personality or whatever reason it does not justify spreading hate within the community and instigating something that could be considered verbally attacking someone. With that in mind I will not be including Couriway in any further posts due to their poor attitude and actions immediately following the end of Game 6. People in the comments have stated that this is potentially not the correct course of action for the summary given there may be multiple people at fault so I'll reconsider for Day 4
I'm aware Sapnap and Fulham behaved poorly too with Sapnap constantly playing DMCA music (he was not the only one to do this), spamming in discord and beefing with Fulham, and Fulham pulling up Sapnap's stream to ridicule him, his words, his mods and the viewers for 30 minutes - I'm also aware that several participants were clearly unobjective when it came to calling out poor behaviour based on who they did and did not like - the whole situation has caused participants in the tournament to state they're not sure they even want to be involved anymore and that is so sad to hear. I sincerely hope that everyone calms down and this doesn't prevent anyone from returning tomorrow or signing up in the future
Ultimately I hope that moving forward both streamers and viewers go into the rest of the event with an open mind - something Antfrost said which I felt worth mentioning was "No matter what happens someone will be unhappy, there's nothing anyone can do now except just accept it the decision and move on"
-
Please be respectful in the comments (as they will get removed if not) and continue to support Hannah and Sylvee as I can only imagine how stressful it was having to deal with that situation. Go into tomorrow with a positive mindset and have fun!

2024.06.04 19:58 Amazorah Wonderful nature, but what is this?

Wonderful nature, but what is this?
Greetings Arkansans! I recently had the pleasure of visiting a few beautiful natural sites in your lovely state. I enjoyed seeing all kinds of plants, animals, and landscapes (I had no idea you all had roadrunners for example!).
However, one sight left me puzzled and honestly a little terrified. This photo was taken at Kings River Conservation Area, at the approximate coordinates of 35.89487, -93.58267. The water surface was about 15 ft below the edge of the trail. What initially caught our eyes was the skeleton and decomposing skin of an unfortunate snake (blue arrow), but then our eyes drifted closer to the shore, where we noticed this alarmingly large arachnid looking thing (red circle). I insisted (jokingly but hopefully) to my travel companions that this must be an octopus, because the alternative is rather terrifying.
I quickly Google searched largest arachnid in Arkansas but found no leads that I felt fit what we witnessed.
Furthermore, several hours later as we passed the location on the way back to the vehicle, the creature had vanished.
Please, if you can... What in the hell could this possibly be?!

Space-Themed Escape Room for a Birthday Party!
Beep-beep, adventurers! Recently, I asked for puzzle ideas for a space-themed escape room I was putting together for my friend's birthday. Thanks so much to everyone who helped out! I didn’t have much time for this one, but with your ideas, I managed to pull it off. Here's what I ended up doing:
The First Clue: Wearing an alien mask, I approached my friend and handed him a letter. The letter was short and written in an alien language (a simple letter-to-letter cipher). It said: "Earthman! Look behind the trashcan." At the top of the letter were several logos: two related to his work and one representing Earth. These logos were familiar to him and had titles (like on the picture) that could be used as the key to decipher the letter.
Earth \"logo\" with a title
Behind the Trashcan: He found a bigger letter explaining that an alien ship was about to invade Earth. To save the planet, he had to find and steal a device that was transmitting solar system navigation data to the aliens.
Planetary Alignment Puzzle: The letter also had a clue: "Find the sun, planetary alignment reveals what is hidden." The picture of the sun was on the top of a locked box. Each guest at the party had a badge with the gravitational acceleration of a planet in the solar system. Putting the guests in the correct order unlocked the box (which I could open with a remote I had in my pocket). Inside the box was a petri dish with iron fillings and a cardboard.
Revealing the Digits: Placing the dish in the right spot revealed the digits needed to open a combination lock on another box. Inside this box was a bath bomb and a letter instructing him to put this "alien planet mineral" into acid.
https://preview.redd.it/la2rcgz2lj4d1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfdebe169a40be89e3ae1fe64fa4a4e62b5603ae
Bath Bomb Clue: We had green-dyed water labeled "DANGER" for the bath bomb. After dropping it in, a key was revealed inside.
Morse Code Puzzle: The key activated a pre-recorded Morse code message, which he had to decipher to get another combination for a lock.
Finding the Agents: Inside the box locked with this combination was a letter telling him to find alien agents and tell them the code phrase "Give it to me." The only info he had was the code phrase and the codenames of the agents: Aphrodite, Zeus, and Poseidon. He had to find the guests with the gravitational acceleration values corresponding to Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune.
Constructing the Rocket: After telling the agents the code phrase, they gave him a part of an alien spaceship model. He had to construct a rocket using his astrophysics knowledge (quick note: they have an inside joke at work: drawing dicks and calling them rockets). He had to assemble the parts on a magnetic platform to construct the spaceship. Amazon's Blue Origin rocket was a good enough reference to 3D print the model. :)
https://preview.redd.it/kk6582splj4d1.png?width=619&format=png&auto=webp&s=8303bbe1368225195aec2706f0f546693a162812
Final Box: Once the model was assembled, we secretly turned on a beeper hidden in another room. Using the sound, he found another box containing a letter with coordinates: 05h59m, +54°; 3h2m, +04°; 01h28m, −43°. These are the coordinates of stars, marked by delta, alpha, gamma on a constellation map I put on the wall in advance. Using the order of the Greek alphabet letters, he was able to open the final box. Inside was a sphere-shaped lamp with a picture of the solar system.

we happy?
Conclusions? I suck at making bath bombs. Mine almost turned into bath bomb sand, and I had to use a container to avoid revealing the key before pouring it into the water.

2024.06.04 03:50 mindexplore48 Online asynchronous escape rooms?

My best friend is going through a very hard time and is struggling to get through the day. Escape room puzzles are about the only thing that seem to somewhat distract her from the awful slog of depression right now. Unfortunately I have to work, so I’m not able to go be with her as much as I’d like.
I got to wondering if we could play an online escape room together from our phones asynchronously - like she could do something, then it’s my turn to do something, etc? I can find time in between meetings to hop on the phone and do my little something, then she could do something while I’m on a call. Or we could text each other to coordinate a team solution that one of us submits?
Honestly it doesn’t even have to be an escape room, necessarily, but it’s that level of complexity and the way of working toward an end goal, that works best for her. I’d really be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you

2024.06.03 21:30 SelectionOptimal7348 Time and Bitcoin: Accelerating Your Understanding of Both

Time and Bitcoin: Accelerating Your Understanding of Both
bitcoinjumper.com
Time is a slippery concept. We never seem to have enough of it, yet it stretches endlessly before us. Bitcoin, on the other hand, is a digital enigma, evolving and expanding in a way that often feels as intangible as time itself. As we delve into some fascinating facts about time, let’s also introduce you to Bitcoin Jumper, a premium Bitcoin transaction accelerator app designed to make your Bitcoin transactions faster and more efficient. Learn more about it here.

1. Time Flies When You’re Having Fun (or Bitcoin Is Moving)

They say time flies when you’re having fun, but did you know that time also flies when you’re dealing with Bitcoin? Just like how we sometimes wish we had more time, Bitcoin users often wish their transactions could happen faster. Enter Bitcoin Jumper, your go-to app for speeding up those sluggish Bitcoin transactions. No more waiting endlessly for confirmations. With Bitcoin Jumper, time is truly on your side.

2. The Elasticity of Time: It’s All Relative

Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity tells us that time isn’t as rigid as we once thought. It bends, stretches, and warps depending on speed and gravity. Imagine two twins: one travels through space at near-light speed, and the other stays on Earth. When the spacefaring twin returns, they’ll be younger than their Earth-bound sibling. Mind-boggling, right? In the world of Bitcoin, transaction times can feel just as unpredictable. Network congestion can delay transactions significantly, but with Bitcoin Jumper, you can leapfrog the queue and get your transactions confirmed in no time.

3. Time Zones: A Global Dance

Ever tried scheduling a meeting with someone halfway around the world? Time zones can make that a real challenge. There are 24 time zones, and coordinating between them can feel like a complicated dance. Similarly, Bitcoin operates on a global scale, transcending borders and time zones. Yet, irrespective of where you are, Bitcoin Jumper ensures that your transactions are processed swiftly. Whether you’re in Tokyo or Timbuktu, Bitcoin Jumper keeps your transactions moving at the speed of need.

4. The Concept of ‘Now’: A Philosophical Quandary

Philosophers have long debated the nature of ‘now’. Is it a fleeting moment or a series of continuous experiences? When does ‘now’ become the past? This puzzle is akin to the uncertainty of waiting for a Bitcoin transaction to confirm. Is it happening now, or will it take a few more minutes (or hours)? Bitcoin Jumper helps eliminate this uncertainty by accelerating your transactions, ensuring that ‘now’ really means now.

5. Leap Seconds: Keeping Time in Check

Every few years, we add a leap second to our clocks to keep them in sync with Earth’s rotation. It’s a tiny adjustment but crucial for maintaining accuracy. In the realm of Bitcoin, small adjustments can make a big difference too. Bitcoin Jumper acts like a leap second for your transactions, fine-tuning and accelerating them to ensure they’re completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

6. Biological Clocks: Ticking Away

Humans and animals have internal clocks that regulate sleep, feeding, and other vital functions. These biological clocks are essential for maintaining health and well-being. In the fast-paced world of cryptocurrency, timing is crucial. Missing out on a timely transaction can mean lost opportunities. Bitcoin Jumper is your digital biological clock for Bitcoin transactions, keeping everything running smoothly and promptly.

7. Time Crystals: Breaking the Rules

Physicists have recently discovered ‘time crystals,’ structures that repeat in time rather than space. They exist in a state of perpetual motion without energy loss, defying traditional laws of physics. In the Bitcoin universe, Bitcoin Jumper is your time crystal. It perpetually works to accelerate your transactions, maintaining efficiency and defying the slow, cumbersome nature of typical transaction processing.

8. The Oldest Known Timepiece: Telling Time Through the Ages

The oldest known timepiece, the ancient Egyptian sundial, dates back to 1500 BC. It’s fascinating to think how our methods of measuring and managing time have evolved. Similarly, Bitcoin has revolutionized the way we handle transactions and currency. Just as ancient timekeepers sought accuracy, Bitcoin Jumper seeks to provide the fastest, most reliable transaction acceleration in the digital age. It’s a modern solution built on a legacy of striving for better time management.

9. The Speed of Light: The Ultimate Speed Limit

Nothing in the universe can travel faster than light. It’s the ultimate speed limit, a fundamental constant of nature. While Bitcoin transactions may not need to travel at the speed of light, they do need to be fast to be effective. Bitcoin Jumper pushes the boundaries of speed in the crypto world, ensuring that your transactions are confirmed as quickly as possible, approaching the speed limit of the Bitcoin network itself.

10. The Future of Time: What’s Next?

As we continue to explore and understand time, we constantly push the boundaries of what we know. Innovations in physics, technology, and even cryptocurrency are shaping our future. Bitcoin Jumper is part of this future, providing cutting-edge solutions to improve the efficiency and speed of Bitcoin transactions. As we move forward, Bitcoin Jumper will continue to evolve, helping users stay ahead of the curve in the fast-paced world of digital currency.

Conclusion

Time is a fascinating and complex concept, much like the world of Bitcoin. Both require a certain finesse to navigate successfully. With Bitcoin Jumper, you can take control of your Bitcoin transactions, ensuring they happen swiftly and efficiently. No more waiting in the endless queue of confirmations.
