2024.05.15 20:52 New-Watercress-1004 Is a Schengen Visa needed for green card?

Hi! I have one of the 'do I need a Schengen visa' questions, but I was unable to reach the German embassy so I'm redirecting the question to confirm here.
I'll be flying from Chicago to Delhi with a 2 hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany in two weeks, and it's going to be me and my mother. I'm a US citizen, but my mother is an Indian national with a valid US green card expiring past 2+ years. Checking the embassy websites and the transit visa requirements, it seems that we both will not be needing any additional visas like the Schengen for our layover, but I just want to double check and confirm since the date of our departure is nearing. Thank you!

2024.05.15 17:01 kingbonga Yellow line magic trick

Hi everyone,
If you're traveling on the Yellow Line from Gurgaon to Delhi, you'll notice something interesting between Sultanpur and Chhattarpur stations. The lights flicker and even go out for 5-7 seconds just as you're about to reach Tonio Restaurant. I've been commuting on this line for about two years now, and it always seems like a neat magic trick, especially if you're with a date or your family.
Let me know if you've noticed any other interesting interactions or quirks in the Delhi Metro!

2024.05.15 14:15 Usual_Occasion6452 Didn't accept XLRI Delhi. Now considering IIM Mumbai.

I had XLRI Delhi offer which I did not take. I had 99.6 percentile in XAT. Just 96 in CAT. When I dint get into XL Jsr, I was broken but had made up my mind to retake these entrances as I am a fresher. I did not know how good IIM Mumbai is? I still don't know but suddenly everyone around me is acting as if there is no way I will leave IIM Mumbai offer. I need some genuine advice on what should I do. I was clear I will aim for BLACKI,FMS OR XL Jamshedpur, but my peers are telling me IIM Mumbai is almost, if not equally good. Now I am confused what to do as the last date of offer acceptance approaches.
I am EWS NEM 8/8/8 with decent extracurriculars. Have cleared all new iims. Also I need some opinion on whether it was dumb to leave XL Delhi and now thinking of IIM Mumbai. I mean, was XL DELHI better option for me than IIM Mumabi & since I passed it on, I should let IIM Mumbai slide too.
Edit TL:DR - Where will you place IIM Mumbai in Ranking with existing established colleges -BLACKI,FMS,XL both campus, shillong, MDI,IIFT etc.

Election commission of India is a heartless dictator
New Delhi has lok sabha elections are on 25th May in which polling and presiding officers have to work from 4:00 a.m. in the morning till 1-2 a.m. at night till the voting machines get deposited in their respective centres
Then they have to return to their homes late night on their own without any transport available at that time which also becomes a security issue for women
These officers are not provided any breakfast or lunch by the officials. So they have to bring their own food from home
These officers don't even get breakfast or lunch break in between which is totally against basic human rights and labour laws
Even prisoners are treated better than them in jail because they get food from time to time
Now the election commission has gone far to harass them further
It has issued an order that all these officers on election duty will have to reach their polling booths along with the voting machines, one day before the election day,ie, 24 th May and stay there all night to guard them.
Why have they been ordered to guard these machines?
Which rule states that these officers are required to stay overnight one day before the actual election date to guard them?
Guarding these machines one day before the election day is actually not a part of their duty
So it's not clear under which rule they have asked these officers to guard these machines and thereby do a 2 days duty continuously without rest.
If anyone of you is an lawyer, kindly enlighten me if Election Commission can issue such orders for polling officers

2024.05.15 08:42 chantladka 10-Year Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa Timeline - [Indian Citizen & Resident]

I applied for a long-term (10-year) Standard visitor Visa at VFS Delhi. This is my second UK Visitor visa after being issued a 6-month one. Worth spending £1000 in my opinion, if you can. Though keep in mind about the risk that there’s no certainty if they will issue the same even if you have paid the amount.
Here’s my timeline.
26th Apr - Biometrics and document submission
(I opted for the “Keep my passport while applying” option which costs Rs 4500)
07th May - Request to submit the passport back in the evening.
10th May - I submitted my passport around 09:30.
10th May - Evening 17:00, I got an email to collect the passport back on the next working day.
Documents I submitted: (Self-Employed)

2024.05.15 06:57 Ok_Foot_4483 Just giving it a try!

Hey, I am 30M based out of Delhi NCR, India. I am fairly new to reddit, and recently came across this sub, and found it interesting. A lot of people are share various experiences they have had or having, and it's fun to go through them and see the support.
But well, my post is not about sharing an experience because online dating hasn't worked out well, and meeting people IRL is easier said than done nowadays. I am rather hoping for a chance to meet people in my area and here is a little intro about myself:
I am a waste-entrepreneur with a passion for spontaneous adventures, culinary experiments, and Netflix marathons. I find joy in playing badminton, exploring new experiences and hanging out with friends and family when not working. I am looking to meet people who'd like to date to marry, and would like to meet women who are also tried of these dating and matrimonial apps.
One should never give up hope, have a good day guys!

2024.05.14 21:53 baseless_acid My mental peace is not stable

I stay in nalasopara. I am 23. Around In 2010 my parents gave a builder 2.65 lakh as adavance money for a flat. He was delaying the construction so my father cancelled the booking. He was just I will give your money back etc. after 10years of convincing in 2020 he gave 50,000 and then after alot of hasle amount we have recovered is 1.65lakh. 1 lakh is still with him. He always says some date and then goes underground kinda. This is going for past 4 years. No calls etc. he even blocked all the phone numbers of my home. I had a extra sim then today I called him. He talked rudely even he disrespected my mom said "phone rakh", "kya ukkad loge" etc. My father stays at delhi. But I my mind its not about money anymore. He kinda disrespects everytime my mom asks for money. My father is like 1lakh k liye court etc is not good. Financially we are not stable at the moment. Dad is almost retired. I am unemployed trying to start my business. If I get that money this moment it will be really helpful for me. I don't know what to do. Even going to police doesn't make sense to because if builder bribes the police then my carrier can also get issue as my father is insisting to go for govt exams. I am fully exhausted at the moment. Only thing comes to mind is rage. I totally feel helpless. If any of you has solution or some upper level police connection please help me.

2024.05.14 19:10 ajeebperson Dear Delhi Metro, thank you for making me independent (to some extent)

I come from a very conservative and protective family.
Travelling long distances by cabs and buses was something that was either very expensive or something my parents disapproved of.
Wasn't able to buy a scooty as a teenager as well. didn't have the means to learn the car.
All this aside, I was still able to get the education I wanted to get far away from because of the metro. My parents deemed it safe enough (ofc there are disturbing things happening to woman all around delhi metro, I do acknowledge that fact)
As someone with no friends, traveling in metro is my comfort. That's my solo date. That's my with people date. Have you ever eaten in a moving metro when you're famished? Trust me, it's the best for people like me.
Thank you, ABV for taking that initiative. Of course, It is still far from perfect and unfortunately my 21 year old self doesn't know how to drive a car or doesn't have good scooter skills because of it or because of my laziness.
But I still want to acknowledge the metro for giving me the opportunity to go out and do something, at the very least.
If not for metro, I probably wouldn't have had the access to the opportunities I did.
This is my love letter and a rant. Thank you for reading this, if you did.

2024.05.14 11:41 No_Somewhere1788 My husband’s (M 33) hypocrisy and double standards when it comes to my family and his family. I am (F33)

My husband’s behaviour takes a 180 degree turn when his parents/family come and stay with us, compare to when my parents come and stay with us.
We have completed 7 yr of marriage and recently had a baby boy last year (before marriage we dated for 5 yr, that time he never showed any signs that he would turned out to be this after marriage) . When his parents are here along with his sister and his Nani (they all come together and in total 4 ppl come and stay with us for months) he sits in their room or with the them all the time (after work and on weekends), he is also proactively making travel plans and weekend plans, he is smiling and laughing all the times. He is an early sleeper and generally have his dinner at 7:30-8 but since his family has come he eats dinner as late as 9-9:30 and always with his family.
Now compare this with my parents,he used to hardly spend any time with them and used to only sit in his room and used to only come out for dinner (15-20 min) and would go back in his room, on weekends he would only come out of his room for 30 min in the entire day that too for breakfast or dinner, otherwise he would take our son (infant) with him in our room and won’t interact with my parents at all. No weekends plans or anything, he would say that he only gets weekend and would like to relax and take rest. Always eat dinner at 7:30-8Pm and go back in his room to sleep. Hardly smile or laugh. When my parents came for the first time after 2 weeks he asked me when will they go back same thing happened when they came again.
My behaviour is neutral with his parents/family, I do not sit in my room all the time like he used to do, I also try to interact with them and try to make them comfortable unlike my husband. But I feel bad for my parents as they always feel so out of the place whenever they would come visit us, my brother live in US and my parents are both retired and live alone in Indore whereas my in-laws live in delhi and have all their relatives living in the same society (all their relatives live in the same society at a distance of 500m), they have an amazing social life in delhi.
After our marriage he took 2 years (that too after I told him number of times to visit my parents) to finally go and visit my home, and during the same time (2yr) I would have visited my in-laws some 10-12 times. I also used to send cake + flowers to my in-laws/family members on their birthday’s/anniversary/mother day/father day, and he won’t even talk to my parents on his own ( I had to dial from my phone and make him speak to them on special occasions). On his own he had never called them ever. Also, he would hardly talk to my only brother (living in US) not even on special occasion, sometime when I request him to atleast wish him on his bday/anniversary he would do while I am talking but that to would cut short the conversation. Whereas I used to dial in my MIL every 15 days and talk to her normally. I thought maybe be if I do all this he might change, but it didn’t work out. I have spoken to him about my concerns in 2019 (when he had not visited my home even once) his response was you also don’t go to my place, you also don’t talk to my family, you do what you like. When I followed his advice and tried doing this for sometime my relationship with my husband and his family became sour. Since then I have tried to remain neutral/cordial with my in-laws (stopped doing Adarsh bahu things like making them feel extra special and all) but also not exactly behave like my husband.
Many ppl will think that my husband might be an introvert but when it is about his side of the family he is very interactive and family oriented. I have also told this to my MIL but I don’t think she has tried a lot from her end, my husband is extremely close to his parents, if they want they can change him but even after telling this to my MIL I have not seen him changing. Why is the society partial when it comes to girl family and boy family. Why is it only a girl’s responsibility to adapt to her husband’s family. I hate this hypocrisy of our society, I have spoken to my husband about this but he would not change. I have also spoken to my parents about this, they also tell me to never fight with my husband on this issue as per them ‘ladke aise hi hote hai, koi baat nahi humein bura nahi lagta’ but I don’t like this and this affects me a lot. I also do not want this issue affecting our marriage but it does affect us and our marriage all the time.
