PASHINYAN: Democracy has indeed become a reality in Armenia. Before the 2018 Velvet Revolution, massive electoral frauds were the usual companion of elections in Armenia. There was no trust among the citizens that there was a real chance for them to elect the government.
Now the situation is totally different; citizens know that they are powerful enough to decide. The two general elections that were held in Armenia after the Velvet Revolution have been acknowledged as democratic, free, and competitive both by the Armenian society and the international community.
Armenia made huge progress in strengthening the democratic institutions, an achievement reflected in reputable democracy indexes:
(a) Now we are the 43rd in the Reporters Without Borders’ Freedom of Speech index, compared to 79th place in 2017.
(b) Categorized as having partially free internet in 2017 by Freedom House, now we enjoy the status of a country with free internet.
(c) In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Armenia is now 62nd instead of 107th in 2017.
(d) In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s democracy index we are 84th compared to 111th in 2017.
In order to assess this progress, it's essential to note that alongside democratic reforms, Armenia has been contending with external security challenges: the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan's invasion of Armenia in 2021 and 2022 and the occupation of over 200 km² amid inaction by [Russia's] CSTO, the forced displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, have cast doubts among Armenian citizens weather democracy is the right choice. So, democracy needs to prove its efficiency while dealing with security, economic and humanitarian challenges.
We are pleased with the deployment of EU monitoring mission alongside the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and we welcome EU’s decision to expand its capacity. On the other hand, we hope for the inclusion of Armenia into the European Peace Facility and in this regard, we rely on the support of all EU member states [Hungary].
A new set of commitments aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience, state institutions, and addressing the humanitarian needs of refugees has been taken on by the European Union and United States during the high-level meeting on April 5 in Brussels. The rapid and effective implementation of those commitments is of utmost importance.
Despite all the challenges, we believe that the real and most aspiring companion for democracy is lasting and sustainable peace. My government took the share of its responsibility for this. Recently we reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to launch the delimitation of our interstate borders on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991. That means that during the delimitation we should simply reproduce the Soviet-era administrative borders. This is the implementation of the agreement reached in Prague in 2022. Now it is time to incorporate and reflect those agreements in the peace treaty and have it signed.
Another key point for our regional stability is the «Crossroads of Peace», project, initiated by my government. This project implies that Armenia and Azerbaijan restore and open transport and other communications in accordance with the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, and comply with the principles of equality and reciprocity. These elements of the concept were agreed upon during the July 2023 meeting with Ilham Aliyev and Charles Michel. //

... Politico reporter's Q&A with Pashinyan

REPORTER: [Ex-NATO leader] Anders Fogh Rasmussen called your neighbor an autocracy. You are in a very difficult geopolitical and geographical position. How do you solve the security problem in that environment?
PASHINYAN: I would not like to comment on the internal situation of our neighboring countries. Democracy fully corresponds to the mentality of our people. It is a strategy for our government, it is our political belief, it is also our political identity. The members of our political team have spent most of their lives fighting for democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech. Now we have the opportunity to realize all these values in our country.
The security situation was complicated because of the regional and global situation; the world order is collapsing at the moment. My assessment is, and I have had occasion to say this publicly, that the 2020 war was a prelude to further developments. And now the main issue is security.
What is our strategic point of view, how are we going to guarantee the security of our country? Recently, I gave a speech in our parliament, where I said that the most important tool for ensuring security is a foreign policy based on legitimacy. This is the reason why we so often speak about the 1991 Almaty Declaration.
It is very important that during the 2022 Prague meeting, two very important agreements were reached. Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty on the basis of the Almaty Declaration and will use it as the basis for the border demarcation. This is the reason why I said that we are not drawing a new border, we just need to reproduce the existing one on the ground. This process is happening right now, and I hope that we will continue it steadfastly.
REPORTER: The border conflict that has occurred in recent years has had a negative impact on relations with Russia and Russia's role for Armenia. What would you say about this?
PASHINYAN: Armenia is a member of CSTO. We are officially a CSTO member, but I have announced that we have frozen our participation.
REPORTER: So are you still a member or...?
PASHINYAN: It is a matter for further discussion, but it is very important to record the current situation. A crisis arose in our relations after Azerbaijani troops invaded Armenia, and according to CSTO procedures, the Organization and its member states had to support Armenia in this situation. But even after the formal application, the CSTO refused to take any concrete steps, and in fact, that is the main reason for freezing our participation in the CSTO at all levels.
REPORTER: Do you expect the West to occupy the current vacuum and ensure your security?
PASHINYAN: We are diversifying our foreign relations in all spheres. Now we are developing defense cooperation with India, France, and other countries. We have a certain cooperation with the European Union because as I mentioned, we are happy about the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission on the border. It is a civilian mission but in a way, it is a new factor for the security of our region. This is the first time that the European Union participates in the security agenda of Armenia.
REPORTER: Would you like to become an EU member?
PASHINYAN: We are waiting for the EU's decision to include Armenia in the European Peace Facility. We also hope to start visa liberalization negotiations, and last year I announced in the European Parliament that Armenia is ready to be as close to the European Union as the European Union deems it possible. This is our position.
REPORTER: Can you elaborate on what initiatives Armenia is taking in the fight against corruption?
PASHINYAN: We have made huge progress but have not eradicated corruption from Armenia. We must continue to be persistent in the agenda of democratic reforms. This is the reason why cooperation with the European Union is of utmost importance for us because today the European Union is our main partner in the implementation of our democratic reform agenda. We hope that the European Union, as well as the USA, will increase their support to Armenia in the implementation of democratic reforms, because, as I said, democracy is a strategy for us.
By the way, in 2019 we started a Strategic Dialogue with the USA, and today we see the strengthening of our cooperation with the European Union. We recently had a tripartite meeting with the participation of the USA, EU, and Armenia. It was an unprecedented format, where we adopted a huge agenda of institutional and economic reforms. It is also very important that we receive more tangible support from the EU and the US to address the humanitarian needs of the Nagorno Karabakh refugees because it is a very sensitive and emotional issue for us.
REPORTER: In which year would you like Armenia to become a member of the EU?
PASHINYAN: This year [as soon as possible]. //
Pashinyan met Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The latter emphasized the importance of the “Crossroads of Peace” project in the context of unblocking the regional infrastructure.
Pashinyan discussed various topics with the PM of Denmark. The latter accepted his invitation to visit Armenia.

former regime continues to hold protests and briefly shut down roads in Yerevan with demands for PM Pashinyan's resignation

Dozens of participants were detained and released the same day for blocking roads. The detentions decreased from 170 on Monday to ~63 on Tuesday. They want Pashinyan to resign or to be impeached. The protest organizers visited universities to gather student supporters, some of whom joined them with a dance. The organizers also stopped by at a bakery where they were given free food.
A felony investigation was launched after a police vehicle, "with the sirens on", struck a reporter on the street. In another instance, an investigation was launched against a protester who brought a long sword. One other case was launched over alleged threats made on Facebook by a Galstanyan fan who wants scores of people to be beaten in dalans and exiled from Armenia, "մենակ էտ դեպքում էս սրբազան հողը կմաքրվի էս տեսակ շան ծնունդներից, ուրիշ ձև չկա!!!!"

A ruling faction member of Yerevan City Council complained about "harassment" by opposition figures who are attempting to convince ruling party members to join the protests and the impeachment.
RULING MEMBER: That is not how it works. No one will join you with that conduct. People will join if they see you have a legitimate agenda with trustworthy leaders. Instead, you are "ethnically cleansing" the citizens of Armenia [referring to one opposition speaker telling non-Armenians to leave] և հեռու չէ են օրը երբ դուք գուցե ասեք որ հայ լինելու համար պետք է Հայկ նահապետից տեղեկանք բերել: //

Yesterday the protest co-organizer Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said he received a report suggesting that the Deputy Rector of Yerevan State University supposedly urged deans and others to retaliate against students who joined the protests. Galstanyan said he was unsure whether the report was true, but decided to read it out loud anyway. On Tuesday he rallied his supporters to the backyard of the University where he demanded to speak with the Deputy Rector for clarification.
The Deputy Rector went downstairs and greeted Galstanyan, who shook her hand but wouldn't let it go for an uncomfortably long period, prompting her to ask him to let go of her hand. The Deputy Rector declared that whatever Galstanyan read about her was a defamatory lie.
GALSTANYAN: I never believed it myself.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Then you should not have said out loud something you did not believe.
GALSTANYAN: Listen, there is a recorded fact...
DEPUTY RECTOR: Where is that "recorded fact"?
GALSTANYAN: It was on the media. As I said yesterday, I had no verification that it was true, which is why we came here to clarify it. If it's false, then I apologize.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Thank you. //
The Deputy Rector urged the protest organizers not to enter the building or disrupt the classes, and that "anyone who wants to follow you can follow you, anyone who wants to stay in classrooms should stay in classrooms".
The angry Deputy Rector left. Another university official criticized Galstanyan for not checking the information before reading it to his followers. Galstanyan said he stands behind his words, and that he was "just reading what was on the media", but reiterated that he had no intention to insult the Deputy Rector.

Galstanyan and his supporters visited the monument dedicated to Operation Nemesis. He praised the figures behind Nemesis for "assuming personal responsibility". In front of the crowd, Galstanyan introduced Hambig Sassounian who recently joined his movement. He pointed to the Nemesis monument and said Sassounian is "one of the successors, one of the brightest people." In related news, on Sunday a ruling faction MP complained about receiving death threats with reference to Operation Nemesis.

(2) Should the media organizations that do not respect the rules of financial transparency enjoy all the mechanisms for the protection of journalists? (3) Are the customs authorities confident that the church is not facilitating the business activities of certain figures disguised as donations? A statement released by the defense ministry denies media reports that CoGS LtGen Edward Asryan is a dual citizen of Russia. His wife is an ethnic Russian with Armenian citizenship and his kids are dual citizens, but Asryan only has citizenship in Armenia. The whole family has resided in Armenia since 2006, said the statement.

Georgia passes controversial ‘foreign agents’ bill despite widespread opposition

The law will require organizations receiving more than 20% of their funding from abroad to register as “agents of foreign influence” or face crippling fines.
The bill will be sent to the President who is expected to veto it, but her veto is expected to be overruled by the parliamentary majority later.
Georgian PM Kobakhidze had an "honest conversation" with U.S. deputy foreign minister James O'Brien, telling him that the Georgian government is interested in deepening the partnership with the U.S., "which requires mutual efforts and relations based on fairness."
James O'Brien demanded to speak with the manager - Bidza Ivanishvili. The latter refused to meet O'Brien, saying he won't hold any meetings under "blackmail".
The White House said the U.S. will review its relations with Georgia if the bill becomes law.

REPORTER: The rainy May is not going to be enough to alleviate the negative consequences of the rapidly rising temperatures in Armenia. With a ~3 Celsius anomaly, Armenia had the second-highest increase in temperature over the last 6 months among a group of monitored countries.
WEATHER CENTER: High temperatures increase the evaporation of water and reduce the amount of snow in the winter. In December and January, we recorded rain instead of snow in certain mountainous regions, which is bad for water resources.
REPORTER: A conference was recently held in Yerevan within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.
UN official: Around 40% of global soils are degraded. Millions of people will be forced to migrate from their communities by 2050 as a result of climate problems. Emergency action is needed to reduce the rate of rising temperatures. //
Armenia joined the Convention three decades ago and has assumed the responsibility to restore degraded soil by 2030. The government is promoting drip irrigation systems for farming and wants to plant more trees.

Armenia and Iran discussed the construction of a second bridge over the River Araks

The first bridge began operating in 1996. It came to replace the floating bridges on the river.

a new study on mice indicates that more exercise might be better than more sleep for clearing brain of toxins

They injected a dye into a brain and tracked the speed of its movement during sleep and exercise.
The findings show that the clearance of the dye was reduced by 30% in sleeping mice compared with mice that were kept awake. This has not been confirmed on humans yet.
Previous research has suggested that sleep is important for preventing dementia as it is during this time that toxic proteins are cleared from the brain.

about a month after i rented a vehicle from avis, i get a text from sedgwick claims regarding my avis rental and a claim number. i obviously thought this was a scam but after looking into it further and calling avis directly, it was a valid damage claim. it was also confirmed through the demand letter i received in the mail a few days later. i thought this was total bullsht because i had no issues or altercations during the rental. having denied coverage from avis, i 100% believe avis pursued me for responsibility since i was the last renter. the one time i don't take pictures or record the vehicle at time of pickup, i get hit with this.
after scanning through some pictures and videos of the trip, the damage was definitely preexisting. i sent it to avis/sedgwick but it wasn't enough to fight it on my own. i suppose it was my own fault for not doing my due diligence at time of pickup, but whatever. lesson learned. the total due including admin fees, repair estimate, loss of use, etc was $1365.07.
then comes premium car rental protection. i have this enrolled on my green card (downgraded from gold) for $25 per rental and would be my first time using it. i call up amex assurance and explained the situation. they helped me create a case, which i now know i can do online on my own. i sent in/uploaded all the requested documents to amex, including the closed rental agreement, demand letter, itemized repair estimate, etc. the claim was submitted on 5/2 and closed today at 5/14. all dues paid. there was a diminishment of value fee of $66.73 that was denied under premium, but was covered under the standard car rental loss and damage insurance.
big weight lifted off my shoulders. i didn't have to go through my own insurance and i didn't have to communicate with avis/sedgwick throughout the process. for about $25 per rental NOT per day, this is definitely worth it.

Hi everyone,
I know this question has been asked before, but I am hoping to get some feedback for my specific situation. I have read online that both of these apps work great with real debrid. I have used both and am leaning a bit towards Stremio due to simplicity and cloud storage for my library. I know I can use back up add-on to save my setting on Kodi when I do a clean install but if I am setting up a new device, I'd have to start from scratch (I don't know how to save back up and restore from a network). I am hoping to get some feedback on the performance of both apps and which you guys prefer. I should also mention I am using a Firstick 4k Max for streaming connected to my LG S80QR system.
I know Stremio is recommended for the fact that it works out of the box. I see that Kodi is recommended due to the ability to customize and trakt integration. I am hoping to get some feedback on the points below as these are a priority for myself when deciding which app to use.

1. Reliability - cocoscrapers seems to provide a great amount of links in 4K and 1080p. Torrention also provides a sufficient amount of links. From your experiences, which one has been more reliable? Which one will be more reliable in the future? Kodi has been around for years and addon support is great whereas Stremio and Torrentionare relatively new; can we expect ongoing support for these?
   
2. Performance - how has your experience been with video and audio playback on Stremio vs Kodi? Has anyone had any AV sync issues? What about use with surround sound system? Any issues with quality of 4k stream? I have a 5.1.3 system and would hope I can put my system to good use.
   

2.1. Audio passthrough - I noticed Stemio does not have this setting for Android TV. Is it not needed or already embedded into the app? Looks like tunneled playback is something different, not sure if it accomplishes the same thing.

1. Customizations - clearly Kodi takes the cake here but what specific customizations are essential to you on Kodi? I like the options available for video and audio but are these necessary on Stremio or are adjustments automatically made on Stremio depending on the devices you are using? E.g. downmixing from 7.1 to 5.1.
   
2. Parental controls - Kodi has some options for parental controls, Stremio has nothing. Will there ever be any options for this in the future?
   

One of the things that annoys me the most about Stremio is that when I am watching a show and go to check something else, when I go back to the show I was watching, it automatically starts playing from where I left off. Is there anyway to disable this?

We got a new cat (f, about 1yo) around a month ago, and we've been trying to slowly introduce her to our old cat (m, about 13yo). He was raised with a female cat and several dogs, so we thought he'd probably be fine, but he's also been an only child for a few years now. It took the new cat about a week to come out of hiding and interact with us, and now she's gotten very comfortable in the room where we have her and interacting with us regularly.
We have a baby gate separating them, and interactions so far have been very hard for us to read. They're fine when they can smell but not see each other. They're fine if they can see each other, as long as the new cat doesn't move. But as soon as she moves, the old cat hisses and growls and gets himself all worked up unless we break his focus. They'll eat in front of each other, we've given them treats and attention in front of each other, we're trying to give them equal attention. Both have dilated pupils, with ears forward, not flat. But they always freeze when they see each other, and both tend to be crouched. We've had a couple brief security breaches that we allowed to play out (under very close supervision) out of curiosity, and the first time the old cat yowled and ran at her (we pulled him away, she ran and hid) and the more recent time he ran at her but was silent (same ending). We've also tried switching them to break the territorial streak, but every time he immediately starts screaming bloody murder until we switch them back (probably not a good sign).
She still likes to hide a lot, so we can't tell if she's fully hiding to get away from him all the time or if she just likes alone time and enclosed spaces. Lately, he's taken to sitting at the baby gate and crying, trying to paw it open and looking for her. But if she shows up, it's the same old routine. Both frozen until she leaves, or if she comes closer he'll hiss and growl. But if she leaves, he'll act all sad again. The cat he was raised with was kind of a jerk to everything and everyone, so is this just how he thinks cats are supposed to interact? Is he trying to play, or just being territorial? Should we be doing something differently? Their behaviors never seem to fully match what we're seeing online, either positive or negative. I tend to assume they're more or less on the brink of war and we've somehow done everything wrong, but my roommates want to stay positive. Any help is appreciated.

So, I am studying for a exam to enter in the foreign service of my country. It's probably one of the Top 5 hardest exams on the country. There are 3 phases: the first is a 73 questions where you have to mark 4 items on each for false or wrong, and the other 2 phases are essays. It requires a very ample knowledge on the following subjects:

1. Economics
2. Constitutional, Administrative and International Law
3. World's History
4. History from my country
5. Geography
6. International Politics (both theory and history)
7. English, French and Spanish

I have read pretty much all the stuff I need to. Now I am only passing by the books and taking notes of the highlights I made. I was then planning to use Anki to memorize all the information that I need, doing cards on my notes. Many people who has been approved used it, but since I find it very tedious, I really wanted to try Memory Palaces to do that. But I am worried about 2 things:

1. The sheer amount of knowledge: Let's make a very unrealistic assumption that I will have to make only 100 notes per book. I read 60 books plus other materials like articles, etc. Considering that I can condense my notes and put at least sometimes more than one note in a loci, and reduce it to perhaps 4500 notes, it would still be a lot. I don't know how many palaces I can make, specially considering that it will be probably, in a more realistic scenario, perhaps the double of this quantity of notes.
2. I am insecure on using this method to do the exam since I don't know people whom have used it for such purpose. It happens annually, and I really want/must be approved ASAP. Can't afford to wait 3 years or something to be approved.

So, has anyone used this method to pass on a exam of similar difficult/structure? Do you think by your experience with Memory Palaces that it can be done, considering the amount of loci necessary, etc.?

Hey everyone, this is the current PC build that I bought during the pandemic. I wanted to ask if anyone here would recommend possible upgrades to my build for longevity and "future-proofing." I had my friend build this for me, and now I want to try and learn how I would know when I should consider upgrading parts. Right now, I think my PC runs smooth, but when I play games like Valorant, I get like 140-200ish fps (I am running a second monitor at 1080p 60hz, so maybe that has something to do with it?) Has anyone tried making custom art on doors? I would like to make some custom door patterns/designs with my CNC but I'm not sure the best way to go about it without building my own door slab.
I thought about buying a pre-made flat panel hollow core slab, gluing a 1/2" or 3/8" MDF sheet to one side (or 1/4" to both sides if I want both sides carved) and then running it though the CNC. The issue being that the door would be thicker than usual for a hollow core (1-3/4" vs the standard 1-3/8") and I'm not sure how to finish around the perimeter so you wouldn't see the seam between the door and MDF sheet.
I could make my own solid core slab with like a 5/8 particle board core, birch stiles and rails at the perimeter and two 3/8" MDF or plywood sheets as cover to carve, but I would be spending 90% of my time making the slab instead of the carving.
Has anyone found an easier way to carve interior doors or a resource to buy doors with a skin thick enough to carve? Am I over thinking this?

Just throw a good printing company at me. I just want reasonably priced 4x6 prints of my family pictures. My ballpark is $100-$120 for 200 pictures. If that’s unreasonable I’m flabbergasted. I don’t need professional looking quality, just something that doesn’t look like it’s from a god damn ps2. Whatever standards the early 2000s printing was held at. I understand the occasional differ in quality but I’m talking every image I printed looked horrible.
Please please help.

I've decided to space these out a little bit just so that my thoughts aren't the exact same thing after every admittedly similarly played match. This way we get some diversity of opinion every couple of games instead.
(Writing this after matches against Charlotte (W), Colorado (L) and Toronto (W))

• This team has the ability to be SO much better.

What we've seen these last few games are the highs and lows of what New York is capable of. We beat a team we've never beaten before, then lose immediately to an albeit pretty meh Colorado side, only to then come away with three more points against a team who probably was the better side on the night in Toronto. The team has potential, they're beginning to change my mind after the pretty dreadful start to the season. What's left to be seen is how consistent we can play on the road.

• Cushing better learn from this last win.

Dude must have read my last post cuz he made a lot of the changes I've been asking for. The kids saw some much needed minutes and played their asses off, some even scoring and assisting. The squad needs rotation in these early games, figure stuff out while we can, experiment before deciding to field the same exact 11 every single match. Now let's get specific...

• Only one of Sands or Keaton need to start.

And I think he got in right in playing Sands last weekend. Keaton looked lethargic from his introduction and didn't offer much in the defending support we needed when the game was asking for it. My man Perea showed he's a starter being much more involved in some linkup and even getting himself in a position to score. Sure Keaton may have scored a few weeks ago vs Charlotte, but lets not forget that came off a set piece. The two in the holding spots just play far too similar thus leaving a hole. One of my main complaints has been that we literally never control a midfield. I wouldn't be surprised if our heatmap the first 10 games looked like a donut. I think once we figure out a solid three to start in the middle this team's gonna look a whole lot better.

• Wolf is inconsistent.

I KNOW I KNOW everyone loves him, but the truth of the matter is he's been pretty mid in some games. Yes, last weekend was probably the best he's played in our shirt- credit where credit is due. Against Colorado you could have convinced me he was a different player. I can't pinpoint exactly what he's struggling with, cuz he's clearly capable of being better. I suspect Cushing's instructions are confusing him. Wolf finds himself far out of position if he's meant to be winger. Against Colorado for much of the match I was watching this guy pick up the ball in the left midfield...why? I'd be okay swapping him in and out some matches with Julian or Ojeda.

• Our right back situation is the biggest problem in the defense.

Be it Tayvon or Mitja, consistency is lacking. While O'Toole has proven himself numerous times to be a reliable force down the left, the right is stagnating. I don't know if we need to sign someone new or bring up a kid from the second team, but this is an issue that I can't overlook. They both have their moments of promise.

• MALACHI

In my humble opinion, we have our starting left winger right here. He is so full of energy and never shies away from driving the ball forward. His introductions against CHA and COL immediately were game changing and earned him a start at the weekend. He bagged himself a goal and was heavily involved in any attack we were able to string together. This right here's the player who has taken the most advantage of his minutes off the bench- everyone else should take notes.

• I mean what more is there to say about our 9?

Where was Bakrar even in the lineup at the weekend? Granted I wasn't complaining given his continued drought, but would love to know. I haven't seen enough of Jovan at all to know what he's about. I think Alonso may be our best option there for now, but I'm not sure how long that's gonna last. I think we desperately need to swap to a 4-3-3 just so that 9 isn't so isolated.
I'm proud of the boys to be able to bounce back after a pretty pitiful loss at Citi. Hopefully we can show some more of the same desire at our first midweek game tm.
