2024.05.24 00:36 DumbBeachHours Advice Needed

My friend recently went to get her 2015 Mini Cooper repaired as the battery wasn’t working. She went to our local MINI dealer and when they were in there they found a couple other things wrong with her car. One of those “supposed” things was when checking on the driver side door, the switches stopped working. When they talked to my friend about it they mentioned that something must have spilled on the switches to make them stop working and she must have been the one to spill them because there was nothing in their repair process that could’ve caused the door to malfunction. When she brought up that prior to bringing the car to MINI the switches worked just fine they said that most likely every time she used the switches it just damaged them further, but also that they are not sure what it the real issue is and that it would cost $250 for them to do just the investigation to find out what is the actual issue is. I just want to make sure she’s not being swindled. She is a 24 year old white woman so I understand she might seem like an easy target. And to get the battery and break pads repaired she is already paying around $1000, about $400 for battery and labor, and $600 for the break pad and labor. Also we live in CA (big city) if those prices seem high, this was the cost of service from all of the repair shops we checked around here.

2024.05.24 00:35 Djo1e Carplay issues

I’m unable to get apple carplay to work. Is there a way to confirm I even have it? I just bought a used CX-5, but I’m not sure what trim level it is. I think it’s the highest one since it has Bose, leather seats (heated), front and back sensors, 360 camera, etc. I think it should have carplay as well, right?
When I plug in my iphone, it just starts charging, but carplay is not being shown on the screen.
So far I’ve tried: - Getting an original apple charger
I will take the car to the dealer in 2 weeks, but is there anything else I can try or a way to confirm I even have it for my model?

Not an SRT, but she still has a v8
Hey all. Finally excited to be part of the Mopar community! For years I have wanted to buy a charger. Preferably an SRT model, but I’m in Canada and, really our buying power isn’t the same heh. I did some research over the years as I would eventually start building the car, and it turns out that the 5.7 is the Hemi that responds the best to mods. So I got even more excited for the fact that I could afford an T, and build it myself! It all started when I tried getting a police pack, denied loan, tried again 8 months later, denied again as I had a loan on my truck. Dealer came and said the bank had no issue financing an T and got one within my price range.
I love the car TOO much; despite being bone stock. I look for Every single reason and use it to my advantage to take the car for a spin. I don’t think this feeling will fade, how do you guys cope with a massive urge to drive the sports car?
Glad to be part of the community guys!!

2024.05.24 00:22 Trick-Split-3748 Just bought a used car and had nothing but problems

So I bought a used 2019 Honda odyssey from a certified dealer. I was told it was certified pre owned. I have had the car for roughly 7 months and have had to bring it in to be fixed 7 times already I had an appointment to bring it in because the door latch for the passenger side back door went out and I was supposed to drop it off Friday but today the transmission went out on it. The dealership has fixed all problems but one for free but at this point I really can say they sold me a lemon and I have had it for less then one year of the 7 year term and I’m really worried they won’t fix the transmission and I can’t afford to fix it and I just want to be done with this car so I need to know if there is anything I can do. Ps I live in Georgia but bought the car in Tennessee

2024.05.24 00:10 DaPrime666 Question on FWD vs AWD

I place an order on a black FWD 2RS.
I wasnt sure what to choose between FWD and AWD. FWD have longer range but I live in Canada so AWD can be interesting for canadian winters.
Ive read somewhere that AWD had over 300hp but couldnt find any info for that with my sales guy at the dealer.
That will also be my first electric car, I currently have a LT Equinox 2020, so I dont know if that makes any senses FWD vs AWD

2024.05.24 00:02 UX-Edu Have a lemon. A Volvo C40 Recharge. Want to break the lease. It's still in the dealer's shop. Do I have options?

Hi y'all. I've got a Volvo C40 Recharge that is just an intolerably bad car. The tail lights malfunction when it rains. The tailgate will lower and hit you in the head. The rear cameras are unreliable. It's a bad car. I'm pretty done with it and want to get out of the lease. Are there any options with a car that just lives in the dealer's repair shop? I'm concerned that the fact the damn thing is defective and they're actively fixing it would lower the appraised value of the vehicle when I try to turn it back in.

2024.05.24 00:00 Glowerman Experienced with robotic mowers, new to Mammotion

Background: I've been using robotic mowers for over twenty users, as a consumer. I got my first robotic mower, a Friendly Robotics Robomower RL1000, through Costco. With its generous return policy, it helped me to take the plunge. The RL1000 worked well, but service became a real problem when the local dealer closed shop several years ago.
When we moved in 2020, I decided to get a Husqvarna 430XH. I didn't consider any other options, choosing Husqvarna because of its extensive dealer network (3 repair shops within 30m) and long history with robotic mowers. Overall, I've been very pleased with the Husqvarna, particularly their rich API that allowed for deep smart-home integration (particularly with Hubitat). However, despite their dealer network, parts were inexplicably in short supply and the mower was very poor at dealing with simple obstacles like tall grass and dips in the lawn. It also has a perimeter wire, so breaks & maintenance were a consideration. The 430XH is rated for my property size, but in realiting it struggled to keep up. A 450 would have been a better choice.
After repeated incidents of getting stuck this spring, I'd had enough with Husqvarna and was delighted to find AutMow had a new franchise very close to me--and they sold Mammotion devices. Although Mammotion seems to have some issues with parts, it's not like Husqvarna was thrilling its customers with its supply channel, either. So I took the plunge and ordered a Luba 2 3000H. I'm keeping the 430XH as a backup (along with a regular mower.
Likes & observations
My wife loves the mowed lawn, so that's proof enough, but I'll point out a few things:

2024.05.23 23:59 emptyspace10 Lower back pain while driving. Anyone else?

24 sport hatch. I have around 4.7k miles on the car now. The first 3k ish miles I afeually find the seats to be ok, my back was sore during the first 500 miles but it got a lot better. However 1k miles ago I brought it to the dealer for them to look at my possible sticky steering and notchy. Ever since they moved the seat I seem to not able to find the old comfortable position. I remember before going to the dealer I even drove 6 hours straight without issues, but now even 10 mins would make my lower back sore. It's driving me crazy like am I imagining things? I have also recently moved to a hilly area (I was in the Midwest previously) and I definitely move around the seat a lot more with all the forces. Especially pressing the clutch on an incline can really press my back towards the seat. I have adjusted the seat like 10 million different ways and it's still not helping. I'm currently trying a thin cushion for my back but it's not helping that much also.
Anyone having similar issues?

2024.05.23 23:52 Say-What-KB Lupient Lied

Lupient Lied
A (formerly) proud Buick owner, my father received the above coupon in the mail. Great! His Buick was overdue for an oil change. So, this afternoon I went over to sit with Mom while he took the car in. (He called ahead and mentioned he had a special offer - fine, he was told, no appointment needed.)
The fine print on the offer requires only that the dealer is “participating” and gives the dealer instructions for receiving reimbursement from corporate. So, Lupient can decline if they are a nonparticipating dealer, or they can honor the offer sent specifically to my dad. They chose Door #3. They lied.
Service consultant LL and another employee first insisted that, “We only send this out to people who buy from us.” Then how did this one get sent?
Next, they tried making up criteria - “It only applies to cars that are one or two years old!” And where does it say that?
The final shot, “Just buy a new car, then you’re eligible,” with an unspoken ‘old man’ tagged n at the end as my disgusted dad left.
Had they completed the offered oil change and “multipoint inspection” they would have a quickly seen that the vehicle very much needed a brake job, and quite likely other cash maintenance.
Do better, Lupient!!

2024.05.23 23:52 daviswinn Trying to get rid of car because of negative equity without a repo. Any options?

I'll keep this as brief as I can.
I have a 2016 sentra with a busted AC that whines when driving, the front bumper literally has a bite taken out of it, and I'll admit ive basically turned the back seats into a makeshift trash bin.
I've got about $6,900 left on this debt cuz its a collector's agency rather than the dealer. I'm so sick of it and want it gone. My mom has been kind enough to lend me her old jeep, since she's planning to upgrade (granted that barely runs too but its a free car thanks mom)
Based on all the carmax estimates and stuff I'll be lucky to get 3,000 trading it in and more like 4,500 through a private sale. But that still won't cover it all obviously. Obviously I don't want to keep paying it and I also don't want a reposession only to end up still owing.
It seems like im screwed no matter what. But i figured asking here if there's any alternatives. At this point it's just minimizing loss.
Any helpful advice is appreciated. (P.S. Thanks mom again)

Hello I was just wondering if anyone has any similarity issues I have a 23 300s only 4000 miles and it started not turning on yesterday. The push to start turns evrything on except the engine doesn't start. Remote start does not work. I have been able to turn on by just pushing the the push to start until the engine starts. Took it to the dealer and they said it would be 3 weeks and it's most likely an electrical issues. was just hoping by some miracle someone had a similar issue and it was something minor so I'm not without a car for a month. thank you

2024.05.23 23:51 Chair-Equal 2024 ST CRV - Follow up post for when I was looking and getting discouraged with OTD price

2024 ST CRV - Follow up post for when I was looking and getting discouraged with OTD price
previous post : https://www.reddit.com/crv/comments/1ciyu2t/getting_a_crv_for_something_reasonable_around_me/
From my distress over ther previous post, I was able to pick up a new 2024 ST CRV. i figure this might be able to help you guys out.
I make this post to help out because it was as smooth as a process as I could make it. Ill go through my process.
I took some tips from youtube. First, I made a google voice account so that I can have a new phone number. On the google voice, I had it set to "do not disturb" mode. So when sales would call , it would go straight to voicemail so I could read it. It was really helpful because then I can look at the message when I had time, and didnt feel pressured at all. *added benefit of disable number after finishing with car buying.
Then I made a new email, where all car stuff would be direct to there, (didnt' want to get spammed).
Then I called pretty much all the dealerships in the area and some that were not and specifically asked, me: "do you have the new CRV 2024 sport touring in this color" them: response : "yes" me: "what is your Out the door price for this car" them: "when can you come in? we can talk about it here" me: "I am not coming in unless i have a number in hand either through text/email"
then either they would keep pushing and say "come in " , or they would say " what are you looking for". In this case, i had the help from /angelicribbon where she gave me a sample proposal so i had some leverage by giving them a written proposal , which was awesome.
They would respond , "i will beat that xxxxx . When can you come in? " me: "I am not coming in unless i have a number in hand either through text/email"
then I would just repeat the process over and over again until it couldn't be beat anymore.
I got my CRV ST roughly 40.9k OTD , I live in florida. sales tax 7%
extra bonus in my experience of different dealerships for the florida ppl:
  • rick case honda - weston - garbage offer 43.8 k, and annoying AF
  • miami lake autonation - garbage offer - gave me the , 43k OTD is best i can do
  • honda adventura - garbage offer
  • coral springs automall - spotty follow up , so IDK
  • honda south miami - garbage offer - 43 OTD
  • honda lake city - willing to match price , but soo much negotiation it was annoying ..
  • honda coggins (orlando) - couldnt beat 41k , they actually asked me where i got my offers - lol..
  • hendrick honda - could match up to 42.4 k, and then they gave up
  • honda plam beach - garbage offer - 42.7k
  • braman honda - couldnt beat
  • honda ocala - could match 40.9 k , they were good
  • honda largo - best dealer , they were very responsive and gave no nonsense. price was very good
  • honda germain - they matched my offer , but with disdain
  • honda delray - good dealer . they were reasonable
for those looking for Sport -L best offer i got was 39.2 k, but i was not that deligent because i was more focused on the sport touring model.
hendrick honda , pompano- 39.8 k
vatland - 39.5 k
germain honda - 39.2 k
Side note: I strongly recommend you do your numbers before hand. when i was at the office, they tried to get me multiple times. Before going in , i calculated how much money i was going to put down and how much i was going to finance. I used google "auto loan finance calculator". The promotion for the new car is supposed to be 3.9% . They try to input 4.2 % , and say "oh. the interest rate doesnt show up, this is what the computer says. Then i pulled up the calculator and the website where it says that financing for the car is 3.9% . then i was met was "oh, sorry. ". When i did the calculations they still cheated me anyways , because they ended up using the rate of 3.99%, but i wasnt going to fight them over $50 . . .
i was technically offered 38.9 k OTD, but i am not sure how real it was. could have been a bait and switch. you can try your best for it *shrug*

2024.05.23 23:51 CoffeeWitch420 AC vent not opening (electrical)

Hello! I have a 2015 Hyundai Accent. My AC is blowing hot and there’s also no air coming out of the top middle vent, so I took it to my mechanic who tried to charge the Freon twice. They determined it was an electrical issue where the AC vent is not opening and I need to take it to the dealership. My car is no longer under warranty, so before I take it to the dealer, I’m wondering if anyone knows the cost of this type of work? I’ve had electrical issues before, and they had to take the whole dashboard out. I imagine this is going to be pretty pricey… any insight is appreciated!

2024.05.23 23:47 FirefighterOk8788 BEWARE OF THE SONATA FUEL TANK EXPANSION.

Beware every 2020+ sonata owner. I am a owner as well of a 2021 sonata SEL PLUS 1.6T and my gas tank is expanding and Hyundai corporate is refusing to fix anything. I have been told by my Hyundai dealer that the car is deemed unsafe and is a actual bomb. My back seats of my vehicle pop up now about 6" away from the frame and has been mishaped and deformed in the form of the gas tank and what it looks like as of now. I have a four year old daughter I have to figure out now how to get to daycare and how to get me and my wife to work and we live paycheck to paycheck not even barely making 75k a year. We can barely afford the car as is. I have a case open with the FTC and office of defects and we need every owner that is experiencing this issue to come forth and bring it to light and speak. Because we are driving literal bombs on the streets of America and it is only a matter of time before they all start blowing up. Kia has the same exact issue going on with there exact same engine model on the K5 models but yet Hyundai is refusing because we don't have enough voice basically. SO EVERYBODY NEEDS TO SPEAK UP AND INSPECT YOUR CARS CORRECTLY

2024.05.23 23:39 TroutSZN Dealer Wrecked New Car

I have an issue. My 2024 Nissan Pathfinder was at the dealer for two slashed tires. There are only 1900 miles on the vehicle and I bought it about two months ago. I just got a call and the service manager said the car went off the rack into a desk. The front end is pushed in through the radiator. They said they would take it to a body shop and do all the repairs for free and yada yada yada, but part of me says screw that and I want them to switch out the car for a new one. What are my options here? I’m freaking out.

2024.05.23 23:35 BananaBeach007 Would You buy Eurospec Vauxhalls/ Opels if they came to the United States?

I was a big fan of when GM brought the Astra over for a year, when gas prices were high and rebranded it under the name Saturn. If GM brought back Saturn and used it to sell current Vauxhall/ Opel cars would you buy them?
-(Also think it would be cool if Pontiac were back with cool sporty cars, and AMC with the everyday person's car).

2024.05.23 23:35 Daisyday12 I'm A Women Who Just Got Treated Very FAIRLY At A Auto Repair Shop. I'm in shock

I just came back from picking up my car from Alberts Auto on the corner of Dorval and North Service Rd at the back of the Petro Canada gas station and had the A/C compressor for my daughters car fixed. They were way cheaper than the Subaru dealer, put a belt on for free and her car was done in 4 hours. So I sent my BMW in the next day because going over bumps I could hear knocking in the front. I thought I was in for a bill in the thousands because every time I get my car fixed my bill is usually 3 to 4 K my bill was under 400.00 and Im in shock and happy as sh*t . I have an older BMW so they could have said anything to me.
Ladies if your looking to get treated fairly and not sold a bunch of you need this and this and .... try Alberts Auto. Justine who answers the phone and worked on my car was a delight to speak with and the owner were so good to me. I never get to say this. Lol
If you do go say Daisy sent you because I think good business people should know they are appreciated and I would like them to know I do.

24N05 Door hem corrosion - Check your doors!
New customer satisfaction program/extended coverage for potential paint sealant issues on the inside edges of the side doors. I checked on the customer's vehicle (2022MY) I'm working on today, and my own personal car (2023MY) and they both exhibited the concern. The repair, if needed, will be to clean, seal, and repaint the affected areas. I attached some pictures of faulty paint, looking just past the rolled edge of the bottom of the doors, paint is bubbling/peeling. it should be noted that if your dealer does not have a body shop attached to it, they will likely have to sublet the work if they inspect it and find a concern.

These CSI-SSI WHATEVER you want to call them are getting more and more stupid. JD Powers should start delivering cars at the dealership for us. At times even when you do things textbook the customer may not even understand the questions in the survey. Zero weight is put on customer comments as well. I think there’s enough people in this sub that collectively we can do something about this. These ridiculous must achieve 980 or better objectives are getting old . Sell 10 units get a 1000 on all but one and ur out of the game!! Guys this is all costing us $$ there are times I don’t even want to sell the car. I’m sure you all feel the same as we’re all being set up for failure. I’m a GSM at an import dealer and yes I’ve thrown deals out just because I’ve felt we’d get hammered on the survey. Not because of anything sometimes these customers are simply unreasonable. Yesterday one demanded the subvention and the rebate ($1500) so reality of I were to hammer them welp guess what. No strait answer Dealership was pushy Etc

2024.05.23 23:18 bluegrm ICE engine destroyed itself in my PHEV. Drove it to dealer on electric - told it needs a new engine - opinions welcome on what next

I have a 6 year old PHEV (VW) with 90k miles on the clock, out of warranty, fully dealer serviced.
It was due into the dealer for a high voltage battery related recall when the day before it lost power as it switched to ICE and sounded awful.
I was able to get it home on electric and drive it to the dealer the next day without letting the ICE turn on.
The dealer required several hours over a number of days to tell me that the engine had destroyed itself due to a “timing issue” and was irreparable. I believe it has a timing chain, and there are apparently no issues with that.
The UK arm of the car company and dealer have offered a reduction on a new engine and workmanship (20%), out of good will.
The problem is that with the figures at present it’s around break even/the car is close to written off - an online broker has offered £4000 for the car when on Parkers it’s worth around £11-13k. The engine replacement would cost close to £8500.
I can get a second hand engine with ~44k miles on the clock for £1500 and an independent mechanic who says he can put it in for £50/hr (estimated around 25 hours). I have to source the engine myself for the mechanic.
So if everything works out fine with a second hand engine install I will save several thousand and come out better than selling the car as is, or getting a new engine in a car where the rest of the car has plenty of miles on the clock.
The sensible part of me says to cut my losses and sell the car on as is. The riskier bit of me says to stick a used engine in and try to sell it on. The issue is that I can imagine a load of problems with installing a used engine in a PHEV.
I’ve tried to get the car company to throw a bit more towards a new engine/install but I know it’s out of warranty with plenty of miles on the clock, though I’m still pretty annoyed that the engine just died.
I’d be really grateful for any opinions on ways forward - thanks!
Edit: dealer new engine total replacement cost is just under £8500 /afte the 20% discount. Without discount it’s over £10k.
