2024.05.24 00:16 Eaglelefty 2024 ATP Power Rankings #3 (pre-RG)

Ok, this is the wildest clay season in recent years. We've had Ruud beating Djokovic and winning a title above 250, FAA getting 2 retirements and a walkover to reach a Madrid final, the Elder Wand changing hands left and right, Nadal truly looking like a 1st week RG exit, and an injured/broken top 4 (but honestly the entire top 10 has had issues this clay season). This could be a buildup to someone's first slam final, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

1. Jannik Sinner (#2)

There were some positives for Jannik this clay season. SF, QF, A across the masters is still better than the clay results he put up in 2023 (SF, A, 4R). Jannik looked to be coasting to win Monte-Carlo, but Tsitsipas was in great form and a bad line call was made that changed the course of that match. The Madrid retirement was unfortunate (also a winnable tournament with FAA, Lehecka, Rublev being his path to the title), but preserving his health has got to be more important than anything else he does at the moment. As of me editing this post, Jannik is back practicing and looking like he's going to be just fine for RG, so the goal should be to aim for #1 especially now that the GOAT is vulnerable.

2. Carlos Alcaraz (#3)

Carlos has been announced to be looking good after scares with a right forearm injury that took him out of MC and Barca (and likely contributed to the unexpected Madrid exit). A thing that happens with Carlos is that when he's the favorite for something big, he seems to not play at his absolute best. Luckily this doesn't happen all the time, but if RG gets to to point where he's the only one of the top 4 remaining (pretty likely unless Sinner has a miracle or Djokovic pulls a Djokovic), what will happen? Will he have another Zverev incident? Besides that, I believe Carlos should coast through some rounds early and build his form up to 2023 levels, if he doesn't than really anything could happen.

3. Alexander Zverev (#4)

Honestly before Rome, Zverev was looking like a contender to turn in one of the worse clay seasons out of the top 5, but this Rome victory propels him up quite a bit in my book (look at the Live ATP Race rankings before you disagree). The most impressive part was what he did in the final; he came out of that final with 95% points won on first serve. Jarry won FIVE return points the entire match. The fact that his serve can do that on the court which probably resembles RG the most out of the clay masters is nothing short of extremely impressive. Winning Rome hasn't translated to a RG win (outside of Nadal) in a long time, but that serve + backhand alone should take him to the 2nd week.

4. Stefanos Tsitsipas (#9)

Post-Badosa Tsitsipas is a thing I guess? It's one hell of a mental turnaround to go from losing to Shapo in 2 lopsided sets to winning Monte-Carlo while beating Zverev, Sinner and Ruud (who just got the confidence boost of a lifetime by beating Djokovic). I'm not gonna look into Madrid too hard (a loss after a Masters title and another final is expected), and Rome was a loss to Jarry who was peaking and played out of his mind to clutch the comeback win. Stef does have a chance to do something crazy if he can get a favorable draw and play to the level he showed in MC, but only time will tell.

5. Casper Ruud (#7)

JAAAAAAAA. No seriously though, Ruud has had the clay season to completely change his mentality. Defeating #1 Djokovic (not a good Nole by his standards, but still Djokovic), and winning a title above 500 is the validation we've been waiting for from Casper. The game was always there but the execution in these make-or-break matches never showed up until this season. I'm willing to ignore Madrid and Rome because "what happended happended", but RG is pretty much peak Casper form outside of 250s, so a deep run looks to be on the way.

6. Andrey Rublev (#6)

Um this was unexpected. This was the same person who got all of one win (against retiring Murray) after his DQ in Dubai incident. The mental turnaround to win a 1000 with a strong performance against Alcaraz on the way is crazy. I don't know exactly what worked or why, but the old Rublev would have choked that final to Felix out of frustration. He hasn't been lashing out as much, he may even be letting go of his mistakes if you can believe it. Again, with the top 4 in question this is as good a time as any for people to make runs and Rublev has his chances to go beyond a QF if the draw allows and his head allows.

7. Novak Djokovic (#1)

Ok guys don't crucify me just yet for putting him down here. Djokovic is not out-performing any of these guys above him, in fact he looks human. Yes, he's got another easy draw at RG to get into the swing of things, but he looked bad against Ruud and even worse against Tabilo so there's no telling what could happen in this draw. He's doing well in Geneva right now, but Griekspoor and Hanfmann are hardly any real challenge. The GOAT needs to get back to GOAT things as soon as he can, or that #1 spot is going to Sinner. I'm sure he will, it's just a matter of when.

8. Danill Medvedev (#5)

Clayvedev didn't work out this year. Yes, the Rome condition were very much a one-time thing that we might not see again, but Med just didn't look like himself much at all this time around (he looked better last year's clay season imo). He's got nothing but points to gain at RG and that should bring some confidence to his game, but if the serve comes back at a high level he should be able to work himself into a respectable form for this one.

9. Hubert Hurkacz (#8)

No expected Hubi to have a great time on clay suddenly. He did win Estoril, which shows that he can play on clay, it's just that there's a hard ceiling on clay for people that heavily rely on serve, and it usually doesn't give them great success in the big tournaments. He put together some good wins and he's probably going to go at least to 3rd-4th round in the French just based on experience and rankings, but he's not anyone's pick to win the thing. Good job by him though for still putting in the hours and work to try and be the 2nd most successful active Polish tennis player on clay.

10. Taylor Fritz (#12)

Fritz has some potential here on this surface. He's not the best by any means, but he's been putting in decent results and beating some good clay players. I don't think that necessarily means a deep RG run, but I'd be very surprised if I see a headline with Fritz out in the 1st round. As long as that 1st serve percentage is high, he's going to be pretty hard to break down.

WILD CARDS: Jarry, Dimitrov, Nadal...???

Not as many wild cards as last time, but a few that I think are worth mentioning. Jarry put together a really nice Rome run after going winless post-Miami; this is sort of like Rublev's run but Jarry is likely going to lose form again randomly, he's never been consistent but when he fires he fires. Dimi was beaten quite a bit this clay season (makes sense, clear worst surface) but he's still probably winning some rounds. For Rafa, I'm not gonna go into too much detail, you can watch and see that he's not gonna be back to where he was ever again. The only two reasons he's on this list is because one, this is a match you should be watching no matter who you support in tennis; and two, if there's any remaining hope that Rafa can get one more win so we can see that fire one last time, it's here. Philippe-Chatrier, odds against him, and the King taking his last dance in the clay palace.

2024.05.23 23:56 Phoenix_Exploer Decent day overall, stock is building nicely in my opinion

Firstly, remember that the market had an absolutely shocking day today. From what I heard from experts before the day, the expectation was that the market would pump today on the back of Nvidia's earnings, Instead the S&P 500 dropped 0.7%. The Dow dropped1.5%, and the Nasdaq 0.4%.
GWAV is still up and showed no signs of breaking bottom support (technical analysts seem to agree this is around 7.5% at the moment). If you were in it as a day trader then yea, not great. But most people here are in for a the long term and it is slowly building and appears to have a bright future (do your own due diligence of course).
Remember that 1) it has a low short interest and 2) it has a huge float, so I don't believe we will see explosive gains like we have seen with FFIE and even PEGY (over the last day). GWAV, again in my opinion, has turned itself around after removing it's convertible debt and if you found the company and looked at their financials today, you would be confused as to why they are trading this low. It now appears to differ from other basement penny stocks in that it has a future. I believe this means that it should be set up for solid growth going forward but it will take time for this to be reflected in the stock price.
Finally, remember that a $1 share price would mean that the company's Market Cap would be $1 Billion, so there will always be added resistance.
Anyway, just my thoughts and opinions (do your own due diligence), but overall, I am not in it for a quick buck but see this as a decent mid-long term investment and I am happy with how things are tracking. Yes, I would loved to have seen a $0.50 today, but I don't believe it was realistic with a massive float. On a day of carnage for the market, take solace in the fact that GWAV actually saw gains AND got mentioned on Nasdaq alongside Google, Meta, and Nvidia - that is huge!

2024.05.23 23:32 InitiatePenguin Saga the Great Pyrennees

Saga the Great Pyrennees
thumb
Shortly after adopting her. Beautiful.
We said goodbye to our beautiful angel Saga yesterday.
She was just over 2 years old when we adopted her on February 25th from the Houston SPCA. She was timid, still underweight but ever so sweet. She had been rescued by ambulance from Pyometra, a very serious infection of her uterus and a hemorrhaged vulva. She was malnourished and had evidence of being a mother. She was spayed and had both her uterus and ovaries removed.
First time meeting her
The night before we went to the shelter her photo appeared on the website - it was our second visit looking for a furry friend, we were the fist family to see her. We didn't know much about Great Pyrenees besides some 'famous' ones on social media. And we were looking for a medium sized dog (lol) but talking with the shelter volunteer who also fostered her for a week assured us that she was the perfect dog for us. We are a couple recently married in an apartment, no kids, no cats, no other pets. We didn't have the schedule to take care of a puppy and just wanted a companion. We were still unsure about the decision at first because it wasn't what we were initially expecting but there was a line of families also waiting to meet her.
Saga was perfect.

We were so scared at first, the independent thinker, her unknown past, she didn't play, and if she did and saw you watching she would just lay down. She was alarmingly docile. It was unreal how calm and sweet she was. Within days we also took her for a general checkup with a vet we picked out. They were so surprised we had only had her for a few days but we figured it was a bit like buying a car - trust but verify. She quickly got into mischief, stealing food, climbing on furniture and destroying our door frame.
We barely left a chair untucked
Left it for only a minute
Separation anxiety had her chewing through the MDF, chewed right through despite the bitter apple.
2 weeks in, we discovered she had tapeworms. The anti flea and tick she was given was for <60 lbs. but we adopted her at 60 lbs, It might have been necessary when she was underweight but now we were behind. The vet asked if she was lethargic and my wife tearily replied yes. A single dewormer and a few days started to turn things around.
She started gaining weight, her coat started to come in, her tail looked less like a wiring tail of a rodent and more like the floofball she'd become. A couple weeks later she was avoiding stairs and had a couple cries - we were so worried that she had some kind of early onset his dysplasia - something developmentally when she was still going but under nourished. Luckily it seemed to only be a soft-tissue problem, she was already on the upswing when we mad it to the vet and after a few days of pain relievers and medication she was back to her happy - albeit separation anxious mess. We avoiding crating her because she came from a crowded hoarding environment (and is a rather large dog), we erected barriers in our apartment and she quickly learned she could climb over the couch to get around and onto the dining room table.
As part of the routine bloodwork from her initial vet checkups we got a call she was positive for Heartworm. The vet asked my wife if Saga would play and then just suddenly stop, my teary eyed wife replied yes. We had turned down another dog because she was already active with heartworm and didn't know how we would manage a new and energetic pet to stay calm through their treatment and as first time pet owners (we both had family dogs growing up) weren't sure if we would be able to crack it with our work schedules.
We jumped right in and got her on doxy and the fast-kill method. 30 days of preparatory anti-infection medicine, 30 days of waiting, her first shot, and then a month later two more. She was originally scheduled for her first shot this past Wednesday - but if you're reading this you probably already know that didn't happen.
Her coat came in so beautifully - this was before she starting to shed it!
After her first 'long' walk with Dad.
The next 2 months were amazing. She taught us about the Pyr Paw, her stubborn walks, her energy conservatism - er... efficiency... We learned she loved sand at a local sand volleyball court and park we didn't even know existed a mile from where we live. She still didn't know how to play, just pawing and darting around with afternoon zoomies. We said that we could never predict her next move. She ended up loving a playing with a Gatorade bottle the way it would erratically flip across the room. On her walks she would take census of all the other animals and where they had recently peed, she'd inspect the parking garage for stray cats and sniff every flower. We often struggled to convince her the route to take. She loved the hum are cars and watched the nearby highway for a while. But she hated loud popping sounds, fireworks, and thunder. Rain made her depressed.
She taught us how to be patient. To slow down and enjoy nature, the sights sounds, and smells.
The moment her paws touched the sand she went crazy.
At the beginning of last week the whine came back climbing the stairs. She started to whimper when getting up. We called the vet immediately for another round of medication. It continued to get worse, she cried when standing but is would strangely disappear shortly after leaving the apartment. She was her normal self when out and about.
Later in the week an in-person vet appointment took more x-rays and radiology returned a potential diagnosis of Spondylosis which the vet explained was like a bony bridge between two vertebrae - we understand now that it's a fairly general term for various abnormalities of the spine bone. We weren't going to let her jump out of the back my car anymore, even though I've always had to help her up.
Was she frequently sad or was it just the Pyreense eyes?
She didn't improve. At this point she would scream bloody murder when getting up, be okay outside, but the tail was rare, and she slowed quicker. The Texas heat was also starting to come in. Coming home she would immediately find her bed and rest. She wouldn't rise except to go out, it took both of us to orchestrate so she she could get clipped in and bolt out the door in pain, otherwise she would continue to scream and pull at the leash and have to move to get the door open causing more pain. Thursday was the last day she would eat or drink standing up.
https://preview.redd.it/nmqdg5bmt82d1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=943a749e87212c036a578500dc4ccbb6f2bcf0db
We called the vet before the weekend at we increased all her medication to the maximum dosage. The next day was no different. The day after she had lower energy but no difference in pain.
https://preview.redd.it/lwh4zzwot82d1.jpg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b940f2d305ab74c647827b9870eb8d5f15259f66
It's now this past Monday, and we asked to change her Wednesday Heartworm appointment to the bloodwork that would be needed by the neurologist for a baseline. Unfortunately they couldn't start the referral process until afterwards even though we knew how limited specialist appts would be. We got the appointment moved up a day to Tuesday. The specialist on Monday had appointments for Tues/Wed/Thurs available. As soon as the bloodwork was done we were able to get a specialist appointment the next morning. The vet in seeing her rapid decline and the drugs not making enough of a distance recommended emergency care. But because she would still eat and drink, although she was growing pickier and wouldn't rise she would still bear the pain to go outside.
The neurologist informed us that she was fairly confident because of the level of pain (which was total because the appointment that morning required her to be off her meds) that she had discospondylitis, a bacterial or fungal intention of the spine which was eroding her bone. An MRI to confirm would cost $4,500, $5,800 with a spinal tap. Then bloodwork would try to identify the exact nature of the infection so the proper anti-biotics could be prescribed. The bill for that day would have been 7 grand. And we used to joke that we avoided waitlists and breeders asking several grand for a Golden Retriever (my wife's favorite - and saga was supposedly a retriever mix). We started to joke that she would cost as much as our recent honeymoon. And after that she'd have to resume Heartworrm treatment for another $1,200-2,000 depending on if we needed to start over.
There's a chance that identifying the exact infection could become difficult. There is a small percentage of dogs where treatment doesn't take at all. She'd be on medication for a year, but if we got lucky on the treatment she could feel better as quickly as a week although some damage would still be permanent. We thought about forgoing the MRI as that was absolutely not able to be afforded - the vet was fairly confident in the diagnosis, but we would never have true diagnosis, or a full picture on the state of her spine. If the infection ever came back, or if more scans were needed to track the process of treatment we would be out of luck anyways.
We made the decision to end her pain, asked for a heavy duty drug to get her back on the feet for the afternoon and went to a local park, bought her Chic Fil A even though we avoided chicken because we read the Pyrenees might be allergic, we bought her soft serve from Dairy Queen. In her last week as she grew picky we cooked her rinsed hamburger and her bacon treats became real bacon. We took her on a scenic drive through the city and parks which she loved watching all the commotion and helped her cool off because the park was quickly getting hot and she wasn't drinking much.
For comfort she would press her head into our arms or sleep with her head tucked against some furniture.
We returned to the animal hospital and spent another hour or two until hitting the doorbell. She knew in the end, she was in so much pain. My wife and I were holding hands, Saga rested her head my lap, which was completely out of character for her - she was not a cuddly dog, but she loved pets, and don't you dare stop in fear of the pyr paw. The pyr paw was so weak in the end... There we a surprising amount of relief in the end when she went to sleep - the past couple of night I had my phone open to my home cameras trained on her various beds praying she would sleep instead of panting her way through the night. Erupting out of sleep at 3am as she cried out trying to shift positions. She was finally able to rest.
We love you.
The three months she had with us was the best in her life. We got her healthy enough to feel the sun and the wind. The reality was that she was always in pain - she just wouldn't let us know. She gave us everything she had left and we gave her everything we had. We've been reflecting on how fast it ended up being but also the way we rationalized some of her behaviors as being a pyrenees - or how they were explained by the tapeworms, and how they were explained by the heartworm. In the end all of our furniture had been flipped up to make sure she didn't get caught with sharp turns. We moved her two beds together to form one large bed because she would often have to shift in ways that left part of her body hanging off the side. Nobody was sleeping. She was our world and we changed the world to make it the way she wanted - those pyrenees always had to have it their way or the highway.
We didn't get the chance to take her to the beach.
We didn't get to explore all the roads she stubbornly wanted to explore.
We didn't get the the opportunity to run off leash.
But we gave her all the love and the world and we were so rewarded in return. Mommy and Daddy love you Saga, you are free to chase all the squirrels you want. There are no trucks with air brakes, no fireworks, no bursting water pipes, no thunderstorms where you are now. You were the perfect 'little' angel, and we love you so so very much.
She was the bravest of them all.

Rest in Peace.

2024.05.23 23:26 fuckthaclubup I put my entire savings into a meme stock and now I may lose everything

I'm 31 and live in the Boston MA area. In the past I had a decent career as a sysadmin, but being diagnosed with a very aggressive case of lupus led me to lose my job and spiral into depression, alcoholism, etc. The last few years I got by by cobbling together odd freelance jobs and working at a museum. I was bringing in like $50k a year without good medical coverage so a huge portion of that went to buying meds, seeing specialists, getting therapy etc. I also have student loans. And Mass is expensive af.
Unfortunately, at the end of 2023, I had a huge flareup that led to me throwing in the towel and moving back in with my parents.. I was in pain nearly 24/7 and could barely move around without a walker. So I'm still living with my folks and the only money I'm bringing in is from freelancing which is sometimes as little a few hundred dollars per month. Through all of this I managed to maintain a modest savings of about $6000.
Meanwhile I'm in this group chat with a bunch of guys/college friends who are big WSB types and a couple of weeks ago they started pushing this one big meme stock (won't say which bc it's not important). I had NEVER invested in any stocks before this. But my one friend was pushing me super hard to put some money in and so I downloaded Robinhood. Long story short I put in $5,500 over the course of that first week, on this one stock because I was so convinced that it was about to shoot through the roof..
The stock was doing ok and at the high point I had increased my money by about 1.5x, but for the last several days it has been tanking and I'm watching my life's savings slowly dissolve. The guys are telling me to hold hold hold and that it's "any day now" that things will take off. But I'm getting sick of them- it's almost like a cult the way they talk about things. By now my money has been cut in half and I'm scared the share price will continue to drop. Can I just pull out? Is there any penalty for doing so? I know how stupid I am for jumping into this without thinking but desperation and greed are a helluva drug.

2024.05.23 23:25 Icy_Reward7945 Accepted guaranteed transfer student at BU but got zero financial aid, considering taking another year to reapply as a transfer

Hi As the title says, I’m a guaranteed transfer student at BU. I had gotten my offer back in 2023 after taking a gap year after high school to reapply to college. BU was the only school aside from my state school that I got into (only as a transfer though), so I decided to go to community college and take their transfer offer. I just got all my official acceptances from them and forms, and they finally gave me my aid package which ended up leaving me paying $85,000 a year. I simply cannot afford this. To add insult to injury, technically they gave me nothing since the $6,500 I get to subtract from the original $90,000 is actually only loans as well.
I didn’t apply to any other schools last year at cc because I had my heart set on BU and I’d already been accepted. I knew they were going to be expensive, but the original estimates were $70,000 not $90,000. BU also doesn’t let transfers defer so there is no taking a year off. I’m currently appealing my aid offer but the financial aid officer I spoke to on the phone told me he’d never seen more than a couple thousand awarded.
I feel absolutes hopeless and trapped. As I mentioned, I already did two rounds of college apps. Once during my senior year of high school and again during my gap year. both times I applied to about 10-15 schools and got into only 3 total.
Originally, I didn’t even want to consider applying as a transfer because of how burned out I am with applications and how horrible it’s been receiving rejection after rejection. However, now after sitting with the news from BU for a bit, I’ve been considering this option. I’d stay another year at my cc and reapply for the 2025 school year. However, I just still am not convinced it’s worth it because I’m just afraid I won’t get in anywhere again. I was a good student in high school with a 3.7 unweighted and 4.5 weighted gpa. My first year of community college I got a 4.0 and received an award for excellence in my Korean language class. I want to transfer to a school with a great East Asian studies program but those are limited or really expensive like BU and I doubt I’d get a better package.
Basically what I’m asking is in complete honesty, am I at all a good transfer candidate? I think my top choice for transfer would be back to BU or maybe something like Princeton (though that’s kind of a crazy reach) since IV’s give better aid. I don’t mean to ask like “what’s my odds of getting into a top 10 school?” my question is can I get into any transfer schools and with a better financial aid package? Though my gpa is good, I didn’t take that great a course load first semester: calculus, mandatory college english advanced level, Korean 101, and guitar second semester: short story analysis class (level 200), asian history class (level 200), ceramics 1, and Korean 102 My sat was 1460 and all my extracurriculars have been mostly about art which I explain relevance in bringing Asian influence in my work. My essay would probably be about wanting to study East Asian studies at the schools I’m applying to since my cc is so limited. I’d ask my Asian history professor and my Korean professor for recommendations (by the end of next school year i’d have 3 semesters with my Korean professor and 2 with my history)
Sorry this is long and thank you to everyone who read through! Any insight into what you think I should do, whether I should just go into crippling debt since BU is pretty much my dream school or if I should roll the dice a third time.

2024.05.23 22:56 Sagewolf999 Total Loss ACV seems very low - Adjuster now ignoring my request for valuation report

Edit: Third party valuation I paid for just came back with a valuation of $16,580.
Was in an accident a little over 45 days ago when the person in front of me slammed on their brakes, so I slammed on my brakes, but couldn't stop in time. My vehicle was totaled because of airbag deployment. I filed with my company for collision coverage. I provided all info for both vehicles and drivers, the police report, traffic cam video, ect... I was told I will be at fault (as expected despite the extenuating circumstances) and that inspection of damage and settlement offer should take 7 - 10 business days due to likely being totaled, it took 30 days. They offered me $12,000 as the ACV settlement for my vehicle. This is right about the KBB value of my vehicle. However, I am looking to replace my vehicle and all options I am finding with same year, make, model, trim, and mileage within 5-10K miles of my vehicle ect... are selling within a week or two at prices between $17,000-$19,000. The KBB value seems to be quite a bit off from the current market prices. I was told by my adjuster that the ACV is calculated as replacement cost - depreciation. I am finding it very difficult to even find one with the third row seat like mine. The one I did find was sold the next day for $18,500 and Carmax said they could put my on a list to call when they get another one with the third row seating. The other rogue with same miles was sold for $18,000, so the third row does seem to add about $500 to the sold price. I requested the valuation report while on the phone with my adjuster and via email the next day when I sent all of my comps with what I feel is a fair settlement counter offer ($18K ACV (averaged by the sold prices of all 10 comps I sent) - $1500 for dealer markup (My car was in excellent condition, all dealer done maintenance, regularly inspected, new brakes ect... but I understand there is always some deduction for this anyway) + $1320 for taxes and reg (their figure @ 8% total tax rate) - $1000 deductible = $16,820 Settlement Offer. I sent this over 2 weeks ago with the VINs and all info of my comps from 3 different sources (Carmax, Carvanna, and AutoTrader with local dealerships and one private party listing), and my adjuster went silent on me. They still have not even provided me the valuation report or comps they are supposedly using to come up with their settlement amount. Does this offer of $12,000 seem reasonable or is my offer of $16,820 in any way unreasonable? Is it a reasonable delay to not settle a total loss within 45 days, when there is no argument about fault or anything else, or to not respond to a request for the valuation report or to review my provided comps for over 2 weeks?
I am trying to be understanding of the potential plight of the overworked and underpaid adjusters, but it's difficult when I am loosing my income and now potentially my home at this point... especially if they are just ignoring me because they think me wanting a fair value for my vehicle, means them having to actually go dig up comps is an unreasonable annoyance and therefore a valid reason to delay. I am willing to negotiate, to be understanding, and to be proven wrong in my valuation. However, I am not willing to flat out ignored or treated like I am trying to cause damage to their personal financial situation, when their actions are causing undue damage to my personal financial situation. If they have time to try to pressure me again to sign the POA for the car, they have time to provide their valuation report or reevaluate their settlement offer based on my provided comps. I am not going to sign over the POA for Copart to auction my vehicle, until a fair settlement is reached.

2024.05.23 22:25 FitnessProgramAdvice Looking for general feedback and advice!

Hello everyone,
I've been a gym-goer on and off for half a decade now, taking it seriously to varying degrees throughout. I'm in my early-20s and before my most recent rejoining at my gym, the last time I was actively going was the spring and summer before last year (April 2023), before stopping when work, school, and relationships got hectic (NovembeDecember 2023). I've been going back now for the past 3-4 weeks, my goal is to cut weight, regain my previous strength, and build muscle (reasonable hypertrophy).
This time around, I've been trying to increase the variety of exercises per muscle group that I'm working on while my split has remained similar (Chest-Back-Legs-Core). Since my most recent time back at the gym I've tried to not stay stagnant, so each time I do a muscle group, I begin my set at the heaviest, or near heaviest weight of the last time I did that particular exercise.
For example, my first week of deadlifts were bar (41-45lbs) + 45lbs on both sides up to 65lbs on both sides. The next week, I would start my deadlift at bar + 65lbs for 8-12 reps, depending on how fatigued I would get. Doing this, I've comfortably got my deadlift up to bar + 80lbs in the past 3 weeks (having not been working out for over a year).
I've kept an eye on muscle fatigue and soreness, taking one or two day breaks and not pushing fatigued muscle into injury while still ensuring I'm hitting my maxes.
I've looked through The Fitness Wiki and GZCLP and feel like I'm doing a linear progression with my weight increases and rep range (mostly moderate with increasing weights when too easy/comfortable), but I'm looking for feedback about the actual exercises I'm doing per muscle group and my splits. I should've started much sooner, but my goal is to be fitter in the next few months for a trip, so I am tracking calories and eating healthy (i.e. monitoring macros; proteins, carbs, fats, etc), but I could be doing a better job and not going out with friends or drinking.
I limit my intake to 2,000-2,500 calories and I burn roughly 1,200-1,400 calories during my workouts (according to my Apple Watch which is likely not accurate). I have 5g of Allmax Creatine with 14g of Madness All-In preworkout daily, occasionally I'll have a scoop (30g) of AllMax Isoflex protein after workouts.
I workout 4-5 times per week. Here's a breakdown of my exercises per muscle group:

I'm having this email conversation with a preacher - I'd love to hear your thoughts & input.

Email Conversation with Preacher May 2024

From Layperson
God's Peace Preacher,
I had a few thoughts pop to mind after you spoke on Sunday and I thought I'd call you. I tried to call but my call could not be completed as dialed, so I'm sending you a quick email.
First - thank you for your sacrifice on the mission you recently returned from and for speaking on Sunday. I know it's not easy and I do not want to make it any harder for you, but I only want to speak to you out of love and concern for both of our souls.
You mentioned that we hear the complete truth here and we don't go outside of the Holy Bible - I totally agree with this philosophy of not going outside of the Bible - I think we're on the same page here! Do you feel sincerely that we don't go outside of the Holy Bible, and everything we teach can be found in scripture?
You also mentioned that if one of us was going astray, wouldn't we want to hear from another? I wholeheartedly agree with this. If I am going astray, I absolutely want you to let me know and teach me in the Bible where scripture is a rebuke to me and could set me back on the right path!
A few more thoughts that came to mind on a few things you mentioned:
The roots of this tree are in Swedish Lapland:
Can you point me in the right direction to find this in the Bible? One of the last times we talked you mentioned Revelation 12. Upon reading it, I didn't see any connection there.
This doctrine is repentance and forgiveness and it's so simple.
Where in the Bible does it talk about the doctrine being so simple and it's all about repentance and forgiveness?
Looking at Acts 16:30 where the question is asked what one must do to be saved, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house"
Was that a sermon of repentance and forgiveness? It seems like a sermon of faith in Jesus Christ.
And how about the thief on the cross? Was that a sermon of repentance and forgiveness, or was it a sermon of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord?
We would like to explain this Christianity but it is a matter of the heart and it must be seen, felt and tasted
Is that the same mindset that Jesus and the Apostles had about faith in Christ?
If they had felt that way, I don't think they would have spread the gospel very effectively.
How are we justified before God? Is it by faith in Jesus?
Do we believe John 3:16? For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Acts 4:12: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Romans 3:22: "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference."
Galatians 2:16: "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."
The Christianity is complete and perfect and we don't have any need to search for a better Christianity
After reading "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." you mentioned we have a perfect Christianity and we do not need to search for anything else.
Was the emphasis of this verse on the Lord, who is the Triune God, and not on the religion we believe in, which is Christianity?
Do you believe that the Lord is your shepherd, and is the shepherd of each person in the congregation?
Instead of saying "The Christianity we have is complete and perfect." Wouldn't we want to put the emphasis on Christ specifically rather than "the Christianity we have"?
To say "The faith we have in Christ is saving" and "Christ is complete and perfect" is putting the glory and honor where it belongs - with Christ himself. Since salvation can be found in no other name, why not emphasize that our salvation is in Christ, rather than in the OALC doctrine?
Putting the emphasis on "The Christianity we have" really is not the same as putting the emphasis on Christ.
Christ and the "Christianity" that we speak of really are two different things. When we speak of the "Christianity" we also mean all of the other synonyms we've associated with it:
Do we teach that believing on Christ is enough? Or must one also believe in the OALC doctrine - ie. "The OALC, and the living faith and doctrine taught in the OALC is the only saving doctrine we are aware of, and no other doctrines taught at other churches are saving. They are heresy, and dead faith, and are based on good works."
We say that our doctrine is based on the Bible, and can all be found in the Bible. Somehow those other churches end up adding to or removing from the teachings of the Bible and go into dead faith, but The OALC has never done that?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
With love,
Layperson
From Preacher
God’s Peace Layperson,
Jesus is found in his congregation, in the hearts of the children of God.
Our doctrine is all the teachings of Jesus and his Apostles.
We are sent out to preach repentance and the forgiveness of sins. This is spreading the Gospel also.
The law is preached to awaken one to their sinfulness so to lead them to Christ.
A sermon of repentance can be a law sermon to an unbeliever.
God has hidden the spiritual meaning from the wise and prudent and revealed unto babes.
Lapland is where our mother congregation is. The prophesies contain this.
The thief on the cross confessed his wrongs and confessed Jesus before the world. A short order of grace.
The Christianity we have is living. We have a living knowledge of sin and a living knowledge of grace.
The Christianity is Christ’s own church and his bride which in marriage becomes one, so we can’t separate his church from him.
The Christianity is complete and perfect through the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
We must go through the order of grace which clearly says these are experiences of a new birth all the way to persecution. Justification and Sanctification.
So yes, our salvation is Jesus Christ, how do we know this without living faith in the heart?
The forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name and blood is needed to encourage us to strive to the end.
The Spiritual name of our church is the church of the first born. Hebrews 12
Old Apostolic Lutheran Church is our American name so to recognize it legally, but it is where the Children of God gather.
Faith cometh by hearing. How do we hear without a preacher? Romans 10
From Layperson
Hi Preacher,
In my previous email I mentioned
The roots of this tree are in Swedish Lapland:
Can you point me in the right direction to find this in the Bible? One of the last times we talked you mentioned Revalation 12. Upon reading it, I didn't see any connection there.
To that, you responded
Lapland is where our mother congregation is. The prophesies contain this.
Can you please provide me with the specific chapter and verses that you are referring to? I've had a hard time finding this.
You also mentioned
Jesus is found in his congregation, in the hearts of the children of God.
I'm wondering - is this the only place Jesus is found? Can Jesus be found in my own heart without being in the presence of another child of God?
I've heard it said that Luther says in order to find Christ you must first find his congregation. Have you seen that message in the Bible? If so, can you point me to this message in the Bible?
I've heard it said that this is shown in Luke since Mary, who represents the congregation, is listed first. Luke 2:16 "And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger."
However, in the gospel of Matthew, Mary is not listed first. Matthew 2:11 "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him"
I feel like if the order was very significant, the gospel of Matthew would have listed Mary first as well.
Are you aware of a spot in the Bible where it gives the message that in order to find Jesus, you must first find his congregation?
Thank you,
From Preacher
Swedish Lapland where LLL opened this last period of visitation has been likened unto a tree. It started like a mustard seed and has grown from there to us and we have become partakers of this same seed.
In Luke 2 it talks of the shepherds in Mathew 2 it talks of the wise men.
If we can't believe Luther or Laestadius and have the same experiences of a new birth Christ isn't living in our heart, he has died. When we are awakened we have seen this then we have been led to his congregation where the power to forgive sins has been left.
From Layperson
Hi Preacher
I'm still wondering about where the specific bible chapter and verse(s) are where I can find the prophecies that say "Lapland is where our mother congregation is" or "The roots of this tree are in Swedish Lapland" or "Swedish Lapland where LLL opened this last period of visitation..."
Can you share those verses with me?
Thanks!
From Preacher
Do you not believe that our mother congregation is in Swedish lapland?
From Layperson
Hi Preacher,
If God's word says it, I will believe it.
You mentioned that the prophecies say it, but you haven't specified where.
Can you help me believe that it is in God's word by showing me where in his word it is written?
If it's not written in God's word, can't we agree that it is a teaching that is outside of the Bible?
From Preacher
Zachariah 6, and Peter's vision of the sheet are a few.
From Layperson
Hi Preacher,
Thanks for sharing those verses.
I'm having a hard time seeing how God's word connects these verses to the mother congregation in Swedish lapland.
Regarding Peter's vision, I assume you're referring to this verse where the vision was repeated three times.
Acts 10:16 - This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
I've heard that Peter's vision means there will be three periods of visitation, but I haven't seen this elsewhere in the Bible.
It seems like Peter's vision is focused on Peter learning to accept all people, and not just Jews as is shown further on in the chapter where Peter summarizes the meaning of the vision
Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Is there another Bible verse that connects this verse or vision to our mother congregation being in Swedish lapland?
Regarding Zechariah 6, it seems like you're referring to the place where it mentions the horses that went north.
Zechariah 6:8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
In the Bible, the north often refers to the area of Babylon and Assyria that were enemies of Israel. Sending chariots to the north is said to symbolize God's judgment and control over these powers.
With Swedish lapland being over 2400 miles north and 700 miles west of Babylon, while Babylon is already over 500 miles from Jerusalem where Zechariah was prophesying, I'm wondering if you can point me to any Bible verses that connect this prophecy to the area of Swedish lapland?
Thank you!
From Preacher
These are deep places that have verified our Christianity which the order of Grace can only explain, when we experience it in our own heart. Our Christianity has answered
all these questions in our own heart and the Spirit reveals to us that it is true without doubt. There is no doubt that the highest light is in the mother congregation and in the humility and lowliness in which Christianity travels. Thomas traveled with Christ and still doubted unless he could see and feel the wounds of the resurrected Savior. Blessed are those that don't have to naturally see but believe by faith. I won't believe unless I see, but it is hidden from the intellect. That only comes after we believe.
People will debate the word all their lives and it never does them any good unless it brings them to the breaking of the heart, and there we are in the right condition to receive the blessed encouragement that our sins have been forgiven. This releasing is left in Christ's true church on earth made up of those reborn children that have experienced this in their own heart. There is our simple childlike faith and we need nothing more for our salvation. As we travel we need to be fed the pure Word by the preaching of repentance and the forgiveness of sins. Where have we confidence other than in this blessed faith when the labor is done in unity and love with the abiding Holy Spirit? God's Spirit recognizes the Spirit that is in us. So the Spirit has been tried, that it is of God not man.
From Layperson
Hi Preacher,
Thanks for pointing out that these deep places can be explained by the order of grace. In reading through the beatitudes in Jesus' sermon on the mount in Matthew 5, I'm not seeing a connection between the order of grace and Peter's vision of the sheet or the chariots going north in Zechariah 6.
Can you help me understand how the order of grace in Matthew 5 explains these deep places that have verified our Christianity by showing us
the mother congregation in Swedish lapland is the highest light? Is there any particular verse in the beatitudes that you feel ties these teachings together?
I want to have childlike faith in God's teachings, but not in the teachings of man. If I am to believe this teaching wholeheartedly, I need to first be sure that God has taught it in his word. Bible passages such as 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19,Acts 17:11, Isaiah 8:20, and Proverbs 30:5-6 remind us that God's written word is sufficient, and we must not add to or subtract from his word and believe only teachings that are found in the Holy Bible.
If this teaching is a commandment of men and not of God, I think I would want to be wary of accepting it in a childlike way, because it would draw my heart away from God, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 15:8-9: "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
Thank you!
From Preacher
When we go through the order of grace and experience this in our own heart all these questions are answered. We see clearly and know our mother. We know where we have received spiritual life. The intellect wants to understand before it can believe and that is why Luther says it needs to have its eyes poked out and neck wrung when it comes to spiritual matters. We read the word of God knowing that there is such depth to it and the Holy Spirit must interpret it for us. When the Disciples received the power of the Spirit they spoke; and people believed, only about 1 in 10 that first day. How are we to think?
From Layperson
Ok, thanks for sharing your thoughts! I agree that when we read the word of God we must read it with a prayer that the Holy Spirit will reveal the meaning to us.
It felt like many of these questions were answered for me until I started to read the Bible, and at that point it felt like some of my lingering questions were being answered, while different questions were coming up!
The spiritual mother has definitely been a big question. It feels like the Bible makes it clear that we have a father in heaven, but does not emphasize a mother congregation on earth.
One verse that stands out is Matthew 23:37, where Jesus laments over Jerusalem:"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"
This verse shows Jesus' desire to gather and protect His people, like a mother hen gathering her chicks. This verse seems to point to Jesus as our spiritual mother more than it does Swedish Lapland. What are your thoughts on this verse?
Also, Galatians 4:26 says, "But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all." Here, Paul identifies the heavenly Jerusalem as our spiritual mother, indicating a heavenly, rather than earthly, origin for our spiritual roots. Let me know what your thoughts are on this!
Another question that has come up since I've started reading is about the intellect. It seems like the Bible encourages the use of the intellect in its right order, and does not promote a one sided view of the intellect as something that has no place in the life of a Christian.
It does appear Luther did condemn reason when he said "Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but—more frequently than not—struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God." (Table Talk, recorded by his students).

However, that was not the end of the story in regards to Luther's view on reason. He viewed it positively in many ways as well.

  1. Reason as God's GiftLuther recognized that reason is a gift from God and has its place in understanding and managing earthly affairs:"Reason is the greatest gift of God to man; it is the 'alpha and omega' of all."Source: Luther’s Works, Volume 40: Church and Ministry II.
  2. Reason in Theological StudyLuther acknowledged that reason has an important role in theological study and the interpretation of Scripture, although it must be subordinate to faith:"But the sure rule is that the more true faith a man has, the more firmly and freely he reasons."Source: Luther's Works, Volume 27: Lectures on Galatians, 1535.
  3. Reason and ScienceLuther supported the use of reason and intellect in the pursuit of knowledge, including science:"The natural sciences should be cultivated and studied as the most valuable gifts and instruments of God."Source: Luther’s Works, Volume 44: The Christian in Society I.
  4. Educational ReformLuther was a proponent of education and intellectual development, which included a strong emphasis on using reason:"I am much afraid that schools will prove to be the great gates of hell unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the hearts of the youth. I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount. Every institution in which men are not increasingly occupied with the Word of God must become corrupt."Source: Luther's Letters, Volume 2.
  5. Philosophical ReasonWhile critical of reason's limitations in spiritual matters, Luther did not entirely reject philosophical reasoning:"Reason is a necessary tool in its own sphere, and it is essential for daily living and governance."Source: Table Talk.

And likewise, the Bible has a positive view of the use of reason in the life of a Christian, and does not condemn it as Luther did.

Here are a few places where the Bible emphasises the importance of Reason, Wisdom and Understanding:
1 Thessalonians 5:21: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."Proverbs 2:6: "For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding."Proverbs 3:13: "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding."James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."These verses emphasize that wisdom and understanding are gifts from God and are to be sought after and valued.

The Bible also contains warnings against Over-Reliance on Human Wisdom:1 Corinthians 1:19-21: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent... Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?"Colossians 2:8: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."These passages warn against placing human wisdom above God's wisdom and the potential for intellectual pride to lead one astray. These verses are some of the most critical verses in the Bible against the use of reason and the intellect, yet they do not say that the intellect has no place in the life of a Christian. They make it clear that human wisdom should never be placed above the wisdom of God.
It seems like when we talk about reason and the intellect, we would be in safer territory to quote the Bible than a paraphrasing of Luther's most critical statements he's made about reason. What are your thoughts on that?
Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts on these matters with me!
From Preacher
As man is born from a mother and a father so is it with the new man as Christ has given birth to his congregation. The congregation is our
mother. The Lapland congregation is the mother congregation at this last period of time, as Jerusalem was in the Apostolic time. We know who are mother is from where we have received life and Spirit. Jesus gives this birth to the new man through the congregation when the power to forgive sins is in his disciples or the reborn children of God. When the highest light comes through the mother to explain the scriptures as the Holy Ghost reveals and unitedly this understanding comes forth, it is our helmet of salvation that protects us from our own intellect causing confusion. If there is confusion, we look to the united understandings that have been tried through the congregation. Our wisdom is when we understand this and can leave our own thoughts and accept the united thoughts. Self-knowledge is also a gift revealing we are weak and needy as King David felt. Self-righteousness will want to lead us away from this and demand more than a childlike faith. As Lapland has always gathered and never pushed away anyone so as the mother hen with a pure mother’s heart. So many signs of a true mother that has so much love for the children. If we can remain children.
From Layperson
Hi Preacher,
Thank you for your response. Here are a few thoughts in response to the thoughts you shared with me.
I also have some questions about where these ideas are found in Scripture - I'm hoping you can point me to places in the Bible to help me believe these ideas are supported by God.
"As man is born from a mother and a father so is it with the new man as Christ has given birth to his congregation."
The Bible describes believers as being born again through faith in Christ (John 3:3-7), not specifically through a congregation. Instead, believers are often described as being adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:15-17, Ephesians 1:5). Can you show me where the Bible says Christ has given birth to a congregation in this way?
"The congregation is our mother."
Scripture frequently describes the church as the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27) and the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27), but it doesn't refer to the church as our mother. The Bible does use maternal imagery, such as in Galatians 4:26, which refers to "Jerusalem above" as our mother, symbolizing the heavenly city. However, this is a figurative use and does not specify an earthly congregation as a mother. Can you point me to where the Bible supports this idea?
"The Lapland congregation is the mother congregation at this last period of time, as Jerusalem was in the Apostolic time."
The New Testament focuses on the church as a whole, the body of Christ, which is not limited to any specific locations (1 Corinthians 12:12-27). It does not single out any particular congregation as the “mother congregation” in the last days. Where in the Bible does it mention the Lapland congregation or a future mother congregation?
"We know who our mother is from where we have received life and Spirit."
According to the Bible, spiritual life and the Holy Spirit come from faith in Jesus Christ (John 14:16-17, Romans 8:11). Can you provide a Scripture that identifies a congregation as the source of life and Spirit?
"Jesus gives this birth to the new man through the congregation when the power to forgive sins is in his disciples or the reborn children of God."
The Bible teaches that Jesus gives new birth through faith in Him (1 Peter 1:3, John 1:12-13). While the power to forgive sins was given to the apostles (John 20:23), it doesn't specify that this establishes a new birth through a congregation. Could you clarify where this idea is found in Scripture?
"When the highest light comes through the mother to explain the scriptures as the Holy Ghost reveals and unitedly this understanding comes forth, it is our helmet of salvation that protects us from our own intellect causing confusion."
The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is the one who guides believers into all truth (John 16:13), not necessarily through a specific congregation. While it’s true that the church plays a role in teaching and nurturing believers, the idea that the highest light comes exclusively through a particular congregation resembles the Catholic belief that the Pope has the ultimate authority to interpret Scriptures authentically. This concept of centralized spiritual authority is not supported by Scripture for any congregation outside of the foundational role given to the apostles and prophets with Christ Himself as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20).
The helmet of salvation mentioned in Ephesians 6:17 is part of the armor of God designed to protect us from spiritual attacks, not from our own intellect. The Bible encourages believers to love God with all their mind (Matthew 22:37), which includes using our intellect to understand and discern His word (Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 2:15).
The idea that we should rely on a specific congregation for ultimate understanding of Scriptures and protection from confusion is not supported by the Bible. Rather, believers are called to individually and collectively seek understanding through the Holy Spirit, study, and discernment (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 John 2:27).
Could you provide a biblical basis for the claim that the highest light must come through the mother congregation and that the united understanding serves as a helmet to protect us from our intellect?
"If there is confusion, we look to the united understandings that have been tried through the congregation."
Unity in the church is important (Ephesians 4:3-6), but the Bible also emphasizes testing teachings (1 Thessalonians 5:21, Acts 17:11). Additionally, James 1:5 assures us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously to all. Where does the Bible instruct believers to defer to the united understanding of a specific congregation?
"Our wisdom is when we understand this and can leave our own thoughts and accept the united thoughts."
Proverbs 3:5-6 does indeed encourage us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding, which aligns with the idea of seeking God's wisdom over our own. However, the Bible also calls for individual discernment and testing of spirits and teachings to ensure they align with God's truth (1 John 4:1, Acts 17:11). This suggests that while we should be open to insights from the Holy Spirit and godly counsel, we are also responsible for personally verifying these insights against Scripture.
Accepting thoughts from God and the Holy Spirit is crucial (James 1:5, John 16:13), but the Bible warns against blindly following the teachings of men without discernment (Colossians 2:8, Mark 7:7-9). Can you provide a Scripture that suggests we should completely abandon our own thoughts in favor of the united thoughts of a specific congregation?
"Self-knowledge is also a gift revealing we are weak and needy as King David felt. Self-righteousness will want to lead us away from this and demand more than a childlike faith."
Recognizing our weakness is biblical (2 Corinthians 12:9-10), and Jesus praised childlike faith (Matthew 18:3-4). However, a childlike faith should be in Jesus, not in a congregation. Can you show me where the Bible instructs us to have childlike faith in a specific group of elders or a congregation?
"As Lapland has always gathered and never pushed away anyone so as the mother hen with a pure mother’s heart."
While Jesus does express a motherly care in Matthew 23:37, there is no specific mention of Lapland or any congregation as fulfilling this role. Also, all humans, including elders, are sinners (Romans 3:23), and only God is pure. Can you provide a biblical basis for Lapland having a pure mother's heart?
"So many signs of a true mother that has so much love for the children. If we can remain children."
Remaining humble and childlike in faith is biblical (Matthew 18:3-4), but identifying a specific congregation as a "true mother" is not found in Scripture. Additionally, God's love for us is unconditional (Romans 8:38-39), unlike a conditional love that would depend on congregants having childlike trust in the elders.
Lastly, you mentioned earlier:
"Where have we confidence other than in this blessed faith when the labor is done in unity and love with the abiding Holy Spirit?"
While unity and love in the Holy Spirit are important (Ephesians 4:3, Colossians 3:14), our ultimate confidence is in Christ alone (Hebrews 12:2, 1 Corinthians 2:5). Can you point me to a Scripture that suggests our confidence should be in a specific congregation rather than Christ?
I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to email me about these matters and look forward to understanding more about how these ideas align with the Bible.
Thank you,

2024.05.23 21:35 Tigreal Patch Notes 1.8.86 - Adv. Server

Advanced server update released on May 23, 2024 (Server Time)

I. Hero Adjustments

New & Revamped Hero

[Revamped Hero: Chains of Sin - Phoveus]
Hero Feature: A Fighter that pursues those who blink or dash.
We believe that frequently punishing enemies who blink or dash and performing continuous Ultimate are the core features of Phoveus. Therefore, we will retain these features in the revamped Phoveus while optimizing the experience.
We have completely redesigned all of Phoveus' skills. The goal is to give Phoveus more active abilities to force enemies to move. Additionally, when skills hit multiple enemies simultaneously, Phoveus can cast his Ultimate back-to-back to turn the tide of battle.
We have gone the extra mile for the Phoveus image overhaul. This week, the Advanced Server will prioritize updating his model and visual effects. The portrait and other resources will also be completed in subsequent patches. Stay tuned!
[Passive - Astaros Eye]
Phoveus can detect any enemy hero that blinks, dashes, or is displaced near him every certain amount of time, after which he gains a burst of Movement Speed and his next Basic Attack will allow him to charge at the target and knock them back.
[Skill 1 - Demonic Impact]
Phoveus slams his monolith into the ground, dealing damage to enemies in the area along with a short but significant slow. If this skill hits an enemy, Phoveus will have reduced cooldown of the next Demonic Impact, and leave behind an Astaros Eye that pulls enemies in the area to the center and deals damage. (Removed the shield gained from hitting an enemy hero.)
[Skill 2 - Dark Wave]
Phoveus lowers his monolith and unleashes a wave of demonic power in the target direction, knocking enemies airborne and dragging them toward him while dealing damage.
[Ultimate - Infernal Pursuit]
This skill has no cooldown but can only be cast on displaced enemies within a certain amount of time.
Phoveus leaps up and slams down at the target, dealing massive damage to enemies in the area while recovering a certain amount of his Lost HP.

Hero Adjustments

The following uses (↑) (↓) (~) to indicate Buff, Nerf, and Adjustment.
[Zhuxin] (~)
Reduced survivability and increased combat experience when her Ultimate is on cooldown.
[Passive] (↑)
Max Crimson Butterflies: 20 >> 30
Mana Restored by Crimson Butterflies: 0.33s >> 0.25s
[Attributes] (↓)
Base Physical Defense: 25 >> 20
[Skill 2] (↑)
Damage Interval: 0.33s >> 0.25s
[Ultimate] (↓)
Removed Shield Effect
Damage Interval: 0.5s >> 1s
[Yi Sun-shin] (↑)
Regarding the changes to Yi Sun-shin, we noticed that some players liked the "Battle Scar" that was previously available on the Advanced Server. However, this mechanic significantly weakens Yi Sun-shin's iconic playstyle of "frequently switching between ranged and melee Basic Attacks". Therefore, we will continue to adjust the damage ratio, reducing the damage percentage of Yi Sun-shin's enhanced Basic Attacks in the mid and late game and increasing the burst potential of his Skill 2.
This week, we will continue to reduce the cooldown on Yi Sun-shin's skills. We hope that Yi Sun-shin's old players can still be able to switch frequently between ranged and melee Basic Attacks, while also having the burst potential similar to the previous "Battle Scar" mechanism in the late game.
[Skill 1] (~)
Cooldown: 11-9.5s >> 9.5-7s
Control Immunity Duration: 1s >> 0.4s (match the displacement duration)
[Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 11s at all levels >> 11-8.5s
[Chou] (↑)
Now, Chou has gradually lost the ability to directly clash with other Fighters in the Exp Lane and can only seek opportunities to kick enemies into the Turret to gain an advantage. We hope the following adjustments can address this issue.
[Passive] (↑)
Distance Movement Required to Enhance Basic Attack: 10 >> 5
New Effect: Enhanced Basic Attack can reduce enemy's defense by 15 for 3s up to 2 stacks.
[Skill 2] (↓)
Removed the effect of increasing Physical Penetration on himself.
[Ultimate] (↓)
Max Knockback Distance of the First Stage: 5 >> 4
[Yve] (↑)
Slightly increased Yve's damage in the late game and partially restored the previous nerfs to her slow ability, making her more competitive in the current version.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Damage Bonus: 140% Magic Power >> 150% Magic Power
[Skill 2] (↑)
Slow: 25%, up to 50% >> 30%, up to 60%
[Nana] (~)
We have optimized the trajectory logic of Nana's Skill 2, setting the travel time to 0.5 seconds (previously 0.2 seconds at melee range and nearly 1 second at maximum range). This change allows Skill 2 to be used as an initiating skill, rather than relying on the slow effect of her Ultimate. We increased the importance of Skill 2 in Nana's combo, while slightly reducing the damage of her Ultimate to prevent her from one-shotting enemies with her Ultimate alone.
[Skill 2] (↑)
Skill Foreswing Time: 0.2-1s >> 0.5s
Magic Defense Reduction of Transformed Enemies: 25% >> 25%-35%
Slow for Transformed Enemies: 30% >> 50%
New Effect: Removes Movement Speed boost on the target.
[Ultimate] (↓)
Slow Effect 50% >> 30%
Damage: 440-660 +160% of Total Magic Power >> 400-600 +140% of Total Magic Power
[Xavier] (↓)
With the new Temporal Reign emblem and Xavier's passive Temporal Overload, Xavier can cast skills at an extremely high frequency under the double Overload effect. We think this experience of unleashing unlimited firepower is good, but Xavier's damage needs to be slightly reduced accordingly.
[Skill 1] (↓)
Mana Cost: 70-120 >> 60-90
Damage Bonus: 130% of Total Magic Power >> 100% of Total Magic Power
[Aurora] (↑)
Aurora's overall damage is relatively weak compared to other Mages. We have decided to enhance her main damage skill.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Base Damage: 350-550 >> 400-700
Hailstone Damage: 40-60 >> 40
[Luo Yi] (↓)
Luo Yi's frequent use of her Ultimate makes it difficult for her opponents to predict her actions. Therefore, we have increased the cooldown on her Ultimate.
[Ultimate] (↓)
Cooldown: 50-40s >> 60s at all levels
[Alice] (↑)
As a ranged hero, Alice's method of stacking the Thunder Belt's stacks was too simple. Therefore, we have adjusted her role and enhanced her early game combat capabilities.
[Role]
Tank/Mage >> Mage/Tank
[Attributes] (↑)
Base Mana: 493 >> 750
[Esmeralda] (↓)
Esmeralda's new equipment, the Thunder Belt and the Clock of Destiny, fit her perfectly, which would make her late game defense attributes too high. As a result, we have lowered her defense growth attributes slightly.
[Attributes] (↓)
Physical Defense Growth: 7.3 >> 5.8
Magic Defense Growth: 4 >> 2.5
[Gloo] (↑)
The previous adjustment slightly lowered Gloo's sustain against high-mobility enemies and his laning strength, so we decided to buff him.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Effect Adjustment: Recovers 4% of Max HP when the explosion hits a target.
Effect Adjustment: Double the amount of HP recovered (from 6% - 8% of Max HP) when the explosion hits a hero.
[Jawhead] (↑)
After the last adjustment, we increased Jawhead's utility to the team, but his own laning ability was somewhat compromised, so we slightly compensated for his laning strength.
[Passive] (↑)
Max Stacks of Mecha Suppression: 10 >> 6
Each stack of Mecha Suppression increases all damage taken by enemies: 1% >> 2%
[Skill 2] (↑)
Base Shield: 375-1000 >> 500-1000
[Alucard] (↓)
With the impact of new equipment and talents, Alucard's current power has exceeded our expectations. Therefore, we have decided to revert the previous adjustments made to Alucard and continue to monitor his performance.
[Passive] (~)
Physical Damage: 80 +125% of Total Physical Attack >> 140% of Total Physical Attack
[Ultimate] (↓)
Hybrid Lifesteal Gained:15%-30% >> 10%-30%
[Leomord] (↑)
Slightly improved his power in the mid and late game.
[Enhanced Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 7s at all levels >> 7s-6s
Skill Damage: 300-400 +50% of Total Physical Attack >> 300-500 +60% of Total Physical Attack
[Joy] (↑)
Now that Joy's Ultimate no longer grants control immunity, she can cast it more often.
[Ultimate] (↑)
Cooldown: 32s >> 24s
[Aamon] (↑)
[Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 15-12.5s >> 13-11s
[Fredrinn] (↓)
Fredrinn's control was a little too frequent. We hope to increase the downtime between combos while maintaining the experience of a full combo.
[Ultimate] (↓)
Cooldown: 7-5s >> 10-6s
[Barats] (↓)
Slightly nerfed survivability.
[Passive] (↓)
Physical and Magic Defense Increase: 4-10 >> 3-9
[Chip] (↑)
Improves Chip's survivability in multi-hero battles while reducing the distance between the Connecting Portal and allies after Chip activates the Ultimate, making it easier for allies to teleport to the Main Portal.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Shield increased when hitting multiple targets: 25% >> 40%
[Ultimate] (↑)
Connecting Portal Spawn Location: Beside allies at 4 units >> Beside allies at 2.6 units
[Moskov] (↓)
Moskov has gradually shown excellent dominance at different stages of the game. In this adjustment, we try to reduce his control frequency without compromising his damage.
[Passive] (↓)
Basic Attacks no longer reduce the cooldown of Skill 2.
[Natan] (↓)
Reduced his damage during his Ultimate.
[Ultimate] (↓)
Damage Inherited by Shadow: 35%-40% >> 30%-40%
Attack Affect Inherited: 70% >> 35%
[Beatrix] (↑)
We hope to make Beatrix's weapon switching in combat smoother, but we have also removed the buff from the last patch.
[Attributes] (↓)
Physical Attack Growth: 11 >> 9.5
[Skill 1] (↑)
Reduced the delay between switching weapons by 50%.
[Wanwan] (↓)
Slightly reverted the buff from the previous patch.
[Attributes] (↓)
Basic Attack Speed: 1.13 >> 1.08
[Rafaela] (↑)
Reduced Mana cost.
[Skill 1] (↑)
Mana Cost: 85-145 >> 45-70
[Skill 2] (↑)
Mana Cost: 100-150 >> 80-120

II. Battlefield & System Adjustments

Match-related Adjustments

[Jungle Area Adjustments]
We hope to increase the cost for some heroes to invade the enemy jungle in the early game, and provide a safer farming environment for some junglers who are weaker in the early game.
Jungle Area Protection in the first 2 minutes of the match: Damage taken by the jungler in their own jungle is reduced by 15% >>Damage taken by all our heroes in the enemy jungle is increased by 20%.

Equipment Adjustments

[Winter Crown] (↓)
As Winter Crown's versatility has been greatly enhanced, we will slightly reduce the attributes it provides.
[Attributes] (↓)
Adaptive Attack: 60 >> 45
[Clock of Destiny] (~)
[Unique Passive - Destiny] (~)
Stack Condition: Deal Magic Damage >> Deal Magic Damage to heroes
Duration of Each Stack: 3s >> 5s
[Other Equipment Adjustments]
1- Optimized the icons of some new equipment to better match their corresponding tiers.
2- Optimized numerical descriptions of some equipment. Calculated values can now be viewed directly in the match.

Battlefield Adjustments

[AFK Determination Criteria]
Any in-match AFK behavior will affect the experience of other players in a match. Therefore, we have adjusted the criteria for determining in-match AFK behavior to be stricter. We hope that all players can take every match seriously.

[Emblem Adjustments]

[Temporal Reign] (↓)
The current effects of the Temporal Reign talent are a bit too strong. We want to keep its feature while reducing its power.
Reduce Skill Cooldown by: 2 >> 1.5
[Bug Fixes]
1- Removed the indicator that appears on the mini-map when using the Sacred Statue.
2- Fixed an issue where the Temporal Reign talent was incorrectly reducing the cooldown of the Ultimate.
3- Adjusted the effect of the Flicker spell in BRAWL to be consistent with that in the standard mode. Now, some heroes can cast Flicker properly while using mobility skills.
4- Training Camp can now be quickly accessed directly from the Hero interface.

2024.05.23 21:17 urpoviswrong How to complete the full battle pass next season.

We're on the eve of a new season and the last week has seen a metric sh*t ton of posts from people not able to complete their battle passes, either the initial 100 levels or the full 200 levels super styles.
The main complaint seems to be with feeling like we have to farm XP in game modes we don't want to play, so I'm going to break things down by the numbers to help you get there next season without cheesing it with exploits or playing a ton of modes you don't enjoy.
Note: Epic could change any and all of these factors, but the general principles should still apply
  1. Every level takes a flat 80,000 XP to complete.
This lets us do simple math to see what pace we need to hit. 100 levels = 8M XP, 200 levels = 16M XP.
  1. Seasons are different lengths, but we can standardize a bit.
This season was 76 days, or just under 11 weeks. So we can see that we need to accomplish 200/76 = 2.63 levels per day, or 200/11 = 18.18 levels per week. That will go up or down depending on season length.
  1. Daily challenges give you 48,000 XP or 60% of a level, but are only valid for that day.
This is important, the Weekly challenges can be done at any time, but the dailies can never be done once it's over. If all you can do is play for 30 minutes to get the dailies, do that. Later you can grind the Weeklies at the end of the season to catch up. 76 * 48,000 = 3,648,000 XP / 80,000 XP = 45.6 levels. Almost half of what you need for the battle pass and almost a quarter of the super styles.
  1. The Weekly Challenges give you 225,000 XP, or 2.8 levels. That's another 30.9 levels.
That means if all you did this last season was the dailies and weeklies you would have 76.5 levels completed.
  1. Most players tend to get 10,000 - 15,000 XP per match based on individual performance.
This can swing pretty wildly depending on how good or bad you are, but shorter games also mean more games in the same time. Better skilled players will generally level up faster though. If you play your 30 minutes getting dailies, you should also rack up an additional 20,000- ish XP per day. That's 20,000 XP * 76 days = 1,520,000 XP / 80,000 XP = 19 more levels. Bam, you've got 95 levels already just by playing the challenges for 30 minutes a day.
  1. Be a loot goblin. There are dozens of micro actions that give you XP.
The more active you are in doing a variety of actions, the more you will get random XP. Did you know you got 500 XP this last season the first time you ate a banana of the gods? There tons of things like this, every chest you open is 100 XP. These will change, naturally, but be a wild little goblin, open everything, harvest and spend gold, break stuff, shoot drones, hire NPCs. Do as much stuff per match as you can and you'll add up incremental XP.
  1. The last Hundred levels are the hardest, expect to play a lot of matches.
If you're on the low end, only getting 10,000-ish XP per match (not counting challenges XP) it's gonna be hard. See item six above to earn a little more. From here it's about skill and game sense. Time alive, placement, and combat all give XP. So play to your strengths and min max if you have to. Winning give a decent boost too. 100 levels = 8,000,000 XP / 10,000 XP per match = 800 additional matches. You need to get your skills up and get significantly more XP per match.
  1. Play combat related Creative maps to skill up while you earn XP.
Kobe Bryant spent up to 4 hours a day shooting free throws sometimes. We don't expect Lebron to walk out and dominate by only playing on Game Day. Doing high intensity combat oriented creative maps will generate XP, but that's not why I put it on the list. The main impact is that YOU will get better at the game, survive longer, kill more players and earn more XP where it matters, see point 7.
That's all I have, hope it's helpful for some fellow older people who have to balance a lot of other obligations. And I hope it was useful in general.
Best of luck out there for this new season, I hope you're as excited as I am.

2024.05.23 20:20 Inertigo CM Review 5/23/2024

Beer Snot 500 gems Score 7.5
Snot Drunk combo made with all objects. Medium Enlarge, Medium/high gas and a medium/low Craze. Good damage dealer who can wipe out a slot while staying alive with its bonus HP from enlarge. Strong combo when there is a good bge boost based on hp
Old Steve 500 gems Score 0.0
Steve Rich combo made with Bag of Nickels. Low punch and motivate. Hard to recommend anything made only with bag of nickels, as it’s underpowered and harder to get
Weed Work Song 1000 stones Score 7.0
Gene and Louise Music combo made with Miss Xxxmas line of objects. Medium/high payback, High Bomb and High Gas. Defensive masterpiece, will do a ton of damage to the slot across from it and the two next to it, assuming no bodyguard. May boost this in the future with more objects. I like this combo
Mommy Mummy 1000 stones Score 0.0
Tina Disguised Combo made only with Roger’s Closet. Show only heal and shield.
Scale:
9-10 Top of the Top: I’d spend 2250 in gems for cm2 if I had to. Type of combo I would pursue CM5 on
7-8 Still Darn Good: I’d drop 4500 in mastery stones for cm2 or 500 gems for cm1. Maybe I invest 2000 stones for cm1
5-6 Good: I’d throw 1000 mastery stones for cm1, maybe take it to cm2 at a later date
3-4 Average: If I was loaded with mastery stones I would think about
1-2 Poor: There’s something there, but I’m not spending resources on it
0 Lousy: Really Kong, take it out of the game

2024.05.23 19:27 Beastw1ck Coming to the conclusion that the Tesla Model Y is the most responsible car purchase. Am I wrong?

My needs: Reliable no-hassle transportation that's capable of road trips.
I currently own a 1994 Land Cruiser Prado that I love but it's awful for road trips.
My other car is a 2011 Volvo C70 convertible. I've had this thing for 15,000 miles and it's been an expensive unreliable nightmare to own. Right now I just want something that I don't have to think about. I value my time, and I don't care to fuss around fixing a car myself or taking it to the shop often.
My original plan was to buy something like a lightly used Honda or Toyota, but these push easily into the $25k range for something around 2020 with 50k miles on it. At that point, I start looking at new because it's not much more expensive.
Tesla Model Y cost breakdown:
Base Price - $44,990
Tax Credit - $7,500
New Base Price - $ 37,490
Finance Incentive - Tesla is offering 0.99% financing for 60 months. I have the cash to buy the car, but why would I at this interest rate? I calculated the difference to finance $33,240 at the 1% promotional rate, versus the money I would MAKE investing that same cash in a CD paying 4.5% accrued monthly (an actual CD we already own). Money made on CDs = $8,400 - $850 total loan interest over 60 months equals an effective discount of $7,550.
True purchase price = $29,940.
So for about $30,000 I can have a car that doesn't require oil changes or other ICE maintenance, runs on electricity which is super cheap where I live. What am I missing here? It seems that buying a new Model Y is literally one of the most responsible vehicle purchases a person could make. Thoughts?

In-depth research on Nextech3d.ai , An undervalued company with great long-term potential
9 Points that motivate my bullish thesis on $NEXCF for the long term
The importance of buying young, great companies is something everyone knows, but few people actually do it or really care. The truth is that in the market you earn more by investing in young, transformative and distruptive companies, which offer unique services; they also must be capable of being leaders in what they offer and they must have proven this.
A universe of opportunities and endless scalability for Nextech3d.ai , driven by generative AI

Large companies take years to build, or decades, and in the meantime the stock is subject to significant fluctuations for various reasons, rates at historic highs that weigh on valuations, wars, uncertainty, delays, etc.. .
The key is to let the business grow, year after year, not by focusing on the stock, but on the continuous progress of the company's business, remaining invested for years or even decades.
To quote Buffet: "The market is a system of redistribution of wealth, it takes away from those who don't have patience to give to those who have it"
We are at the dawn of a new revolution in e-commerce, driven by advancements in AI and 3D modeling technology. This transformative shift is not just a trend; it is redefining the online shopping experience, aligning perfectly with the digital transformation sweeping across industries globally.
Overview
NexTech3D.ai is an undervalued company emerging in the world of commerce worth over 5 trillion dollars and constantly growing. Nextech3D.ai not only provides photorealistic 3D models for major e-commerce retailers, but has its own transformational Ai technology, in order to lead it to be a leader in its field and gain significant market share in the years to come. Nextech3D.ai has obtained several significant validations from multiple parts of the world from several major resellers. Owner of 3 subsidiaries operating in different sectors of augmented reality (3D events, navigation and wayfinding, 3D design studio, 3D and AR models, and much more), Nextech3D.ai is able to take a unique advantage of the upcoming release of the glasses ar and the interest that will follow from companies and consumers
Why AI and 3D Modeling, and Why Now?
The e-commerce landscape is evolving rapidly, with consumers demanding more interactive and engaging shopping experiences. This is where AI and 3D modeling technology come into play, offering a dynamic, immersive, and personalized shopping journey. The shift from 2D to 3D modeling for e-commerce is a major multi-decade transformation that is being led by AI. This transformation is evident as major brands and companies are incorporating 3D models and AR shopping, including Amazon, Walmart, CB2, IKEA, Sephora, Target and more.
  • Amazon (AMZN - Worth $2 Trillion) Amazon is leading this shift, transitioning from traditional 2D images to 3D models for all their products, setting a new standard in online retail. Nextech3D.ai is proud to be a preferred 3D model supplier for Amazon, already creating thousands of 3D models per month and scaling up.

The Power of 3D Models in E-Commerce
3D models in e-commerce are not just visually appealing; they are revolutionary. They enable customers to visualize products in high detail from every angle, significantly enhancing decision-making confidence. This shift leads to higher conversion rates, as customers are more likely to purchase when they can thoroughly explore a product. Moreover, 3D visualization reduces returns, as buyers have a clearer expectation of what they are purchasing, thus saving costs and improving customer satisfaction. Additionally, interactive 3D models increase customer engagement, keeping them on your site longer, which directly correlates with increased sales.

A Timely Investment Opportunity
The timing for investing in AI and 3D modeling technology could not be more opportune. As online shopping continues to grow, the demand for more immersive and interactive experiences is skyrocketing. Businesses adopting 3D models are setting new benchmarks for customer engagement and satisfaction. By investing in Nextech3D.ai, you are not merely keeping pace; you are positioning yourself at the forefront of an e-commerce revolution.
Why Nextech3D.ai?
Nextech3D.ai stands at the forefront of this mega-trend, leading the massive shift from static 2D images to immersive 3D experiences. Our AI-powered 3D modeling technology creates photo-realistic 4K 3D models that cater to major e-commerce platforms like Amazon. With years of expertise and a portfolio of high-profile clients including Amazon, P&G, Kohls, Miele and others - Nextech3D.ai is transforming online shopping into an interactive adventure.
9 characteristics you need to look for when investing in a company :
1) The world's largest companies sell products or services used in everyday life.
The e-commerce market is constantly growing and it is expected to exceed $7 trillion by 2025. This is why it is essential for online retailers to not only keep up with emerging trends, but also keep up with the times by adopting innovative strategies such as switching from obsolete 2D models to current 3D models. The shift to 3D objects marks the beginning of a new paradigm, destined to change the world of online and retail shopping, with the introduction of AR (powered by giants such as Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Meta and others)
Nextech3d.ai collaborates with the largest retailers in many parts of the world and the demand for its 3D models is constantly growing.
2 ) The world's largest companies have global reach and appeal for their product and services
A product that offers its services only in a certain region or country doesn't have the same kind of long-term growth potential as a truly global product. Nextech3d, together with its subsidiaries, operates in several countries around the world, making its reach and interest in what it offers in high demand. Arway's last few months' contracts (with many pilots underway) and contracts secured by Nextech3d.ai (more about to roll out this month) make Nextechar a company with global reach
3) The largest companies in the world are led by a visionary leader in the market in which he operates

Very rarely will you find a company that meets all of these criteria, but any good long-term winner (5 years or more) will have most of these characteristics.
When you can buy these types of companies at fair (or very low in this case) prices, you are almost guaranteed to reap the benefits in the long term. The profit is made at the moment of purchase, exploiting the irrationality of the market, not letting emotions take over rationality.

2024.05.23 18:47 Wild-Ganache6212 How much can you shift your finances around before and after filing chapter 7?

I have
$34,000 in credit card debt
$2,500 in IRS debt
$5,300 in student loans
$650 in electric bill debt
Currently making about $2k-$5k/month (commission job)
My expenses are about $1500/month without paying off debt
I started the chapter 7 process on Upsolve and I’m waiting for them to review my forms. I got my paycheck while I was waiting so I paid off $500 of the IRS debt and $185 on one credit card minimum payment. I’m planning to keep paying minimum payments incase my case is denied for any reason. I also sold one of my cameras for $300.
I just want to keep paying everything off on time incase my case is dismissed. Also, the IRS debt isn’t discharged anyway so I may as well throw $500 at it now.
I’m not sure if I messed up or not, I have a few questions I’m hoping someone can help me with as well as some questions about the chapter 7 process in general.
  1. Does it matter if your bank account is going up down a few hundred dollars compared to what you stated on the forms before you file with the court?
  2. Can I simply explain where my money went to the judge if they notice any discrepancies and that I was just trying to keep paying everything off?
  3. What happens if my case is dismissed? Will my credit card companies retaliate or will my accounts all be exactly as they were before? (Also if the case takes 4 months, will I have 4 months of interest/late payments built up?)
I’m trying to do this as honestly as possible while trying to stay in good standing with all my debt incase my bankruptcy is dismissed and I have to grind out 5 years of razor thin living expenses to pay everything off (which I would very much prefer not to do)

2024.05.23 18:12 pinkgiraffe1212 Naproxen and Tylenol for Pain

Hello hello, I get blinding left ovary pain around my period and my gyno prescribed me naproxen 500mg but they don’t really seem to help.
I told my doctor and he doesn’t want to put me on anything stronger as I’m in my early 20s. He said I can take Tylenol with the naproxen, I’m just wondering do I take them at the same time? Or space it out, and if so, how long in between?
I’m going on a trip on the exact day I usually get the worst pain so I’m desperate for any advice!

2024.05.23 18:03 Rough_Willow How Do APIs work? A brief overview of how APIs function.

Disclaimer: While I understand this content isn't directly related to GameStop, it's related to how Computershare (GameStop's transfer agent) interacts with third parties (such as MX). Additionally, I would have linked to a post here on Reddit that explains APIs but due to brigading rules enforced by RAdmins, I instead generated the following with ChatGPT. As for my background, I'm a software engineer currently working on a team that is building APIs for our customers to access.
An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a set of rules and protocols that allows different software applications to communicate with each other. APIs enable applications to request and exchange data or services seamlessly. Here’s a breakdown of how an API works:
  1. Request: The process typically starts with a client application sending a request to the API. This request is often made over the internet using HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) or HTTPS (HTTP Secure) protocols. The request includes specific parameters, data, and instructions on what the client wants the server to do.
  2. Endpoint: Each API has defined endpoints, which are specific URLs that correspond to different functionalities. For instance, a weather API might have endpoints like /currentWeather or /forecast.
  3. Methods: APIs use HTTP methods to indicate the type of action to be performed: GET: Retrieve data from the server; POST: Send data to the server to create a new resource; PUT: Update an existing resource on the server; DELETE: Remove a resource from the server.
  4. Headers and Authentication: Requests often include headers that provide additional information, such as authentication tokens, content type, or user agent. Authentication is crucial to ensure that the client has permission to access the API. Common methods include API keys, OAuth tokens, or JWT (JSON Web Tokens).
  5. Processing: The server receives the request, processes it according to the predefined logic, and interacts with the backend systems, databases, or other services as needed.
  6. Response: After processing the request, the server sends back a response. This response usually contains a status code indicating the outcome of the request (e.g., 200 OK, 404 Not Found, 500 Internal Server Error), and often includes data in a structured format such as JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) or XML (eXtensible Markup Language).
  7. Handling Data: The client application receives the response and processes the data as required. This might involve displaying information to the user, storing data locally, or making further API calls.
What does this mean in terms of Computershare's APIs? It means that MX had to receive permissions to access the API from Computershare. That Computershare designed these specific endpoints accessible outside of Computershare's network on purpose.
For those about to say that companies are hacked all the time, you've got a valid point, there's risks involved in using technology (hell there's risk involved in using anything) but you've got to define what is an acceptable level of risk and how you determine that. I know at least one person who doesn't even trust banks and hides his money under his mattress. He's diagnosed with schizophrenia but he can recognize the possible risks of having a bank account. Also a solid dude overall.
For those about to say "what if X company gets bought and sells your data?", I remind you that any company can be sold. So unless you've got your shares underneath your mattress, there's always some non-zero level of risk.
Edit:
For those about to say "but here's why this is bad security practices", take it up with Computershare. They're the ones that designed their APIs to require the encrypted credentials. But what about...?

NOBODY BUT COMPUTERSHARE CAN CHANGE THEIR OWN API REQUIREMENTS, TAKE IT UP WITH COMPUTERSHARE.

This job is to help ESL adults sound more American. Here is the site link to the application:

Benefits

Downside: They only pay through Paypal, I live in Thailand and cannot have a Paypal account since I can't get verified as a foreigner. Also they seem to have an annoyingly tedious 3-part interview process where you have to watch videos and study for the interview.
