Battle Fairy Yukikaze has lived rent-free in my head for 20 years. It is a (partial) adaptation of the story collection Yukikaze (1984) and the sequel Good Luck, Yukikaze (1999). The novels have been described as excellent hard-sf exploring the relationship between man and machine. The anime is a quiet, introspective, contemplative....inscrutable mess?
The best comparison I can think of is Boogiepop Phantom, a gift to source readers but utterly opaque to anime-onlies. Which I loved, and I purchased, but I had to read the entire Boogiepop and Others wiki to understand. I never really understood anything about Yukikaze until I watched the video linked below. This is isn't an adaptation of the source. It's an animated companion piece, of portions of the story.
Even though the show makes no sense to me, I'd still love to share it with other sci-fi and mecha (mechanical) fans. And I really hope some source readers can come in and explain it all. Because people love explaining stuff.
Story
An inter-dimensional portal has opened over Antarctica. Invaders called JAM attacked without warning. They were forced back through the portal to their homeworld of Fairy. An expeditionary force was sent through the portal to establish a beachhead on Fairy, to secure the planet and guard against another invasion.
The main character is Lt. Rei Fukai (Masato Sakai), a member of the Special Air Force "Boomerang" Reconnaissance Squadron, who flies the AI-equipped FFR-31MD Super Sylph "Yukikaze". The squadron is commanded by Maj. James Bukhar (Joji Nakata) whose orders are "always return home".
The show, or at least, its source material, explores the relationship between man, machine, and alien.

Sentou Yousei Yukikaze was a big deal for Gonzo and Bandai Visual: It was the 20th Anniversary Production of Bandia Visual. If you've been in other sci-fi rewatches, then you've seen Gonzo's own anniversary productions, and similar marquee efforts:
At only 5 episodes, Yukikaze was released at thealmost ludicrous pace of one episode 1 year (except for episode 2). This didn't make it any easier to understand.
There were additional sequels written in the later 2000s, so I don't know if the anime ending is anime original, or if these sequels need to be considered to understand the older content.
This show was clearly made by people who love modern jet fighter craft, and lovingly crafted new fictitious as detailed as any Kawamori design. From the video below, here we have the crew visiting a JASDF base to collect sound effect, get up close to the equipment and avionics, and experience take-off and landing forces, first hand.

- All "thinking" time should be done in-game on the clock
- Reset using save quit to preserve in-game timing

Video games performance issues, why and what to take ?
Hello all, For context: My PC is in a weird state, as it's quite old and I've been barely upgrading it in the past years due to financial priorities. But the time has come for me to finally make my pc more balanced, and get rid of the stuttering, input lags and 1% lows that really can make a difference in high ranks competitive games. Example of games I play regularly: CS2, Apex Legends, Valorant, Battlefield 2042. I'm top 1-3% in all the games including ranks that I mentionned. I really value smoothness, and want a smooth 144fps experience on all those games. I don't care about playing in ultra settings as I prioritize visibility in games. [Which most of the time require low-medium settings] Maybe good to mention, but I am currently always below 100fps on BF2042, which I find frustrating and noticeable, with big frame drops when things get very heated.
Here are my current specs:
Motherboard: Asus TUF Z390M-pro gaming GPU: RTX 3060 12GB CPU: i7 9700k RAM: 2x8gb 2133MhZ OS: Windows 10
One big issue that surely plays a big part in my current performance problems is the ssd on which my OS has been installed. My SSD only has 120gb. Don't ask me why the hell I have that, SSD's were expensive at the time and my brother gave it and installed it for me when I was too young to know that there is a difference between ssd and hdd. Nowadays, with all the drivers, the OS and its updates, and with the bare minimum of softwares installed and all game saves moved out, I struggle to even have 4gb of free storage left on that disk... Of course, since then, I got new ssd's with several tb's on which all my games and software not requiring my OS drive are installed. And don't worry, I already plan to move my OS to a NVMe gen3 SSD, which I will receive 2 days after this post.
However, I know that even in the days when I still had +40gb left in my os drive storage, I still experienced stuttering to a similar level, so I'm quite pessimistic on the improvement this will bring. Except for Battlefield, I don't think the games mentioned really need a lot of performance, so I assume that my GPU and CPU are good enough and not bottlenecking, and are not the cause.
I think that the only culprit left, after storage, is my RAM. Although 16gb is enough, 2133mhz seems very low compared to today's standards. That's where I am uncertain of what to do. Could my performance issues be originating from my RAM speed ? Should I invest into new RAM sticks ? I have seen benchmarks for 2x8gb 3600mhz cl16's, and I am getting pretty convinced, but I am worried of spending money on it just to still face stuttering afterwards... but I have seen that a fast RAM can make a big difference for 1%lows, so I'm hesitant.
And the reason why I post is this, I need some advice: would a RAM upgrade improve my performance stability noticeable ? If yes, what RAM speed and timings would you recommend for maximum stability and performance with my current specs ? My understanding is that cl16 3200mhz/3600mhz would be what to aim for. Is that correct ?

- Uninstalled the driver using a DDU and reinstalled the driver from NVIDIA's website
- Uninstalled the driver from Device Manager directly and restarted my laptop
- Forced my laptop to render the screen using the NVIDIA GPU from the bios. (This did not work because my screen wouldn't start whenever I boot up my laptop so I had to hard reset my bios in order to get my laptop back to its integrated GPU)
- Update the driver from Device Manager.
- Installed a previous driver update.
If there is anything else I can do, feel free to suggest other solutions. I'm trying to work and save up some money in order for me to get laptop fixed from an actual shop. If there's any questions, let me know as well and I'll try to answer as soon as possible.

Girlfriend's 4 TB drive failed (soft buzzing or ticking sound) literally 20 minutes before she left to catch a flight overseas, so a well meaning family member took it to a "local specialist" for diagnostics, which of course was just a shill for securedatarecovery.com. They won the family member over with the "no risk, free" diagnosis and it was shipped to their lab (my girlfriend obviously signed the paperwork remotely, but wasn't in a position to do her due diligence).
When she returned, she read about Secure Data's shady practices, but it was too late. In the interim, they sent her the following diagnosis:
Failure Types: - Errors : Slow Read - Reallocation Errors - Errors : Read Errors - Mechanical : Failed Read/Write Heads
Make: Western Digital Model: WD40EDAZ-11SLVB0
Device Capacity: 4000 GB
After realizing that Secure Data Recovery engages in bait and switch tactics (naturally, her quote was on the higher end of what they promised), she wanted to get the drive back and work with a more reputable company instead. But she is also afraid that Secure Data will sabotage the drive (as per other posts on this subreddit), so she gave them the whole "not in a financial position currently to pay and would like the drive back until I save up enough to use your services in the future" spiel.
They countered that they would be willing to go as low as $1000 + $88 for a 1 tb drive (the salesperson failed to notice that she submitted a 4 TB drive!) + $38 shipping on the condition that she submit favorable reviews (BBB and Google), including a video testimonial PRIOR to them shipping her data back.
She has many concerns, including their requirement to pre-authorize the $1000 (they claim they won't charge her until the job is complete, but what if they suddenly come up with new reasons why the data is unrecoverable?), how does she even verify that the recovery was successful, how does she prevent more extortion, etc?
They also haven't given her a time frame, stating that it "will be worked on during off-peak hours in order to allow for this adjustment".

She actually did return to Youtube under the name Mama Tad (now Rihse), but before that another Youtuber popped up who had a veeery similar art style to Demonslyr and many people speculated it was her (tho it turned out not to be). I cannot remember anything about her username for the life of me, but anyone who was active in the Warriors Youtube community during this time might remember this as it was a pretty big deal. The only video I remember of this account's was a speedpaint of Ashfur to the song Perfect by Hedley.

So I recorded some videos, I don't know what messed up the process that got the videos corrupted but basically after they were recorded all of them were not playable at all and just basically corrupted. Never been able to play/preview them once.
I tried the general programs/sites I found from searching thru this sub to recover them which were converting with VLC, putting thru fix.video or using untrunct
Now, here's a rundown of what I found... At the time I only took two of the multiple videos I made for a test then put em through the process I listed above, but they never succeeded in recovering the files. I gave up,, then today I had a sudden spark of necessity and drive to try again. I knew of this PAID mobile application (MP4FIX) which I initially already didn't wanna try out because I don't really have funds at all but I figured im desparate and if I could maybe afford it I could try it and if I couldn't afford it at all I could still check if there's still a possibility to recover these files
From that app, it identified and listed down the files on my phone which were corrupted or just wrong basically. With the app, some of the corrupted files were identified to be mp4 while the others were UNRECOGNIZED. There were two videos that was able to read the files as an MP4 which I tried recovering through the app and it was actually able to for a price (which I couldnt afford) so I decided to run those two files to untrunct and they were saved. HOWEVER, the remaining video files wasn't able to be read by the application as an MP4 but instead as an UNRECOGNIZED FORMAT. From the very start, I was hopeful these videos can be helped because the file sizes were there and specific, I figured that a very much corrupted, dead end file would have a 0 file size but these guys had actual numbers that make sense.
So my question is, can these UNRECOGNIZED FORMAT (according to MP4FIX, these videos can still be read as mp4 on file managers btw) video files still be recovered? If so, how? and it's also asking a lot at this point but i'd appreciate it if you guys can provide a free/cheap solution? If no free solution is available that's cool I'll take what I can get and I'll see what I can work with
