Twilight Zone Integrated Universe

2024.05.11 21:48 Nathan1123 Twilight Zone Integrated Universe

Hello, and happy Twilight Zone day!
I know this is a long post, but it's an idea I've thought about for a long time, and I found it fortuitous that I came across this sub just in time for this annual occasion, so I decided to finally put my thoughts on paper. If you read it through the end, props to you!
In the many years since I first watched the Twilight Zone, one question has often returned to my mind over and over again: "what would it be like if all TWZ episodes took place in the same shared universe?" Ordinarily, we tend to think of each TWZ episode as its own separate story completely disconnected with each other, and TBH that's probably the way we are meant to interpret it. But beyond the author's original intention, I like to entertain the thought experiment of what implications or inferences can be made if we assumed these episodes took place in a single continuity. The results of this thought experiment I have found very fascinating.
If this is successful, I might do the same thing for the 1980s revival series later. But let me know what you think.
In particular, I have found that some episodes provide background information or context that puts the events of other episodes in a different light, potentially rectifying certain questions or issues of continuity that would otherwise go completely unanswered. For example, in some episodes people are unusually quick to jump to extra-terrestrials as a plausible explanation for strange phenomenon (The Monsters are Due on Maple Street or Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?), but this would make sense if these events took place in the same world that has experienced publicly-known alien invasions multiple times (To Serve Man or The Gift). Technology seems to progress way faster in the Twilight Zone universe, particularly in terms of space travel (Elegy or The Long Morrow), but this could be explained by the alien technology confiscated after the Kanamit invasion. Alternatively, technology could be more advanced by reckless uses of time travel polluting the past with future knowledge (Hundred Yards Over the Rim or The Odyssey of Flight 33). Several people inexplicably gaining superpowers (The Prime Mover or The Four of Us Are Dying) could be explained by the same invisible Martians who granted Mr. Dingle super strength (Mr. Dingle, the Strong). The conformist dictatorship in The Obsolete Man could be the result of the defective body replacement technology seen in Number 12 Looks Just Like You. The list goes on and on.

Attempt on the Twilight Zone Wiki, and their mistakes

I have seen just one other source attempt to execute this exact same idea, on the Twilight Zone Wiki. They generally had the right idea, but I found they made several key mistakes: First, they seem determined to date each episode's events using their IRL air date on television, whenever a date isn't explicitly given. This is a very bad assumption, and runs into a number of logical inconsistencies or contradictions (such as technologies appearing before they are first invented, or events in space travel happening out of order). Many episodes are given dates that are far in the future (Death Ship) or in the past (Mr. Garrity and the Graves), so the most reasonable conclusion should be that episodes without dates are equally scattered throughout time (and not all bunched up between 1959 and 1964).
Another issue with this assumption is that it is forcing a chronological order that doesn't really exist. Imagine if you watched these episodes in real-time week after week, you wouldn't get the sense that it is slowly building up the lore of a single universe, but rather it feels like it randomly bounces around completely different settings of time and space. Finally, the air dates are completely contingent on real-world events (mostly from CBS) and shouldn't be considered "canon" to the events of the series. Many episodes were adapted from science fiction stories published many years earlier; several episodes had to move their air dates at the last minute because of the JFK assassination, and so forth. Thus, in my chronology I only use information during the runtime of the episode to estimate its date.
The second major mistake on the Twilight Zone Wiki is that they are quite conservative with space travel technology, arbitrarily pushing episodes much later in time than the dates explicitly given. Given that the Twilight Zone universe has its own reasons for space travel technology going much faster than in our world, I see no reason to not take their dates at face value as long as the order of space exploration is maintained. Specifically this order:
  1. Orbital space flights near the Earth or the Moon (I Shot an Arrow in the Air or And When the Sky Was Opened)
  2. Interplanetary travel within our Solar System (People are Alike All Over)
  3. Interstellar travel to other Solar Systems (The Invaders or The Little People)
  4. Human colonies established in other Solar Systems (On Thursday We Leave for Home or The Lonely)

Episodes that appear to the destroy the world

The third major issue with the Twilight Zone Wiki is that they make no real attempt to reconcile episodes in which the Earth or human society appears to be destroyed. Thus, they assume the timeline splits into various alternate futures, in which Earth is destroyed in either six or eight different ways (depending on how many episodes involving nuclear war are counted). But in my opinion, I don't find it that hard to imagine ways in which these different apocalyptic or near-apocalyptic events could actually take place in the same timeline. Like this:

Other caveats

I generally take any chronology given by the episodes at face value, with the exception of just one: The Old Man in the Cave. This episode dates the Nuclear War to 1964, contradicting the episode Elegy which dates the war to 1985. Between these two dates, I decided to sacrifice the former over the latter: a nuclear war in 1964 is a bit too pessimistic for being so close in the future, and it would cause issues with events dated to the late 1960s which clearly aren't experiencing a nuclear apocalypse (The Brain Center at Whipple's or Steel).
I generally won't go into the time travel episodes too much, mainly because they don't usually have much interesting implications for the chronology. Almost every single episode involving time travel explicitly names the date, so there's not much to speculate chronologically. They also all feature individual, secret experiments involving only one or two people at a time, so it doesn't usually give much implications for society as a whole. All of the Twilight Zone's time travel episodes are as follows:
I don't count episodes like A Stop at Willoughby, The Trouble with Templeton, or Showdown with Rance McGraw as "time travel" because they seem to involve ghosts, delusions, or in some other way giving the appearance of time travel without actually committing to it.

Before 1861

The following, then, is the major events that make up the integrated Twilight Zone chronology:
The oldest chronological episode of the Twilight Zone is Probe 7, Over and Out. In that episode, an astronaut named Adam Cook is the last survivor of an alien civilization based in Alpha Centauri, and he eventually goes on to become the Patriarch "Adam" who is the ancestor of the entire human race. Aside from this one twist ending, there aren't many episodes that reference the ancient past. As Old Ben had been reigning for 5,000 years, then the era of prosperity on his planet began around 3,000 BC (The Fugitive).
There are two Twilight Zone Episodes that involve immortality, which have an interesting relationship with each other (Long Live Walter Jameson and Queen of the Nile). Walter Jameson says he received his serum of immortality from an alchemist "2,000 years ago", which places his origin around the first century BC. Cleopatra VII of Egypt also reigned in this same era, specifically from 51-30 BC. The Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt was famous for the innovations made in the field of alchemy, which in some ways remained unchanged until the rise of modern chemistry. It's possible, therefore, that both Walter Jameson and Cleopatra received immortality from the same source.
Chris Horn is the earliest user of time travel in the Twilight Zone universe, hailing from the year 1847 (Hundred Yards over the Rim). As he brought modern penicillin into the past, it's possible this contributed to the acceleration of technology in their universe.
I believe that the episode Third from the Sun may have taken place in the 1850s. In this episode, a group of aliens originate from a distant planet that was destroyed by nuclear war, and immigrates to Earth. But since we never see Earth in that episode, then they could have conceivably landed at any point in human history. But in the episode Valley of the Shadow, there is a small town called Peaceful Valley that has been harboring advanced alien technology, under strict instructions to keep it a secret out of fear of it being used for weapons of mass destruction. This sounds like exactly what Will Sturka from Third from the Sun would want to do as soon as they land on Earth: share technology to make people's lives better, but instill an ideology to keep Earth from making the same mistakes they did. Peaceful Valley is said to be 104 years old, and since the episode Valley of the Shadow probably takes place in the late 1950s then that puts Third from the Sun in the early 1850s.

Civil War through World War II (1861-1945)

There are several episodes that take place during the American Civil War, which lasted from 1861-1865. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge takes place in 1862, when Confederate spy Peyton Farquhar is hanged for trying to sabotage a bridge used by Union soldiers. The episode Still Valley takes place during the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, when the Devil offers to help the Confederacy win in exchange for their souls. Remember that the Devil is always present at major wars and catastrophes (The Howling Man). In 1865, Peter Corrigan unsuccessfully attempts to stop Abraham Lincoln's assassination (Back There). After his assassination, Abraham Lincoln's ghost passes by Lavinia Godwin's house on the road to Heaven (The Passerby).
There are several episodes that take place in the "Old West", or generally in the late 19th century: Mr. Denton on Doomsday, Dust, The Grave, and Mr. Garrity and the Graves. The last episode on that list is specifically dated to 1890. It's interesting that Pinto Sykes comes back from the dead to settle unfinished business (The Grave), just as it was for all of Jared Garrity's clients (Mr. Garrity and the Graves).
In 1890, Professor Gilbert seems to be the earliest scientist who claims to have independently invented time travel (Once Upon a Time). It's possible he was inspired by the time travel technology brought from the future to 1881 by Paul Driscoll (No Time Like the Past).
There are a couple of episodes that make reference to the First World War. In 1915, Paul Driscoll unsuccessfully attempts to prevent the RMS Lusitania from sinking (No Time Like the Past). In 1917, British pilot William Decker is transported temporarily into the future, but comes back and sacrifices his life to save Alexander Mackaye (The Last Flight).
Shortly after World War I ends, the Devil is successfully captured by Brother Jerome and imprisoned in a monastery somewhere in Switzerland. Sometime in the 1920s, David Ellington stumbles across this monastery and lets the Devil escape (The Howling Man). This relationship the Devil has with global wars will be significant later on. It's interesting that The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank also takes place in the 1920s, when the eponymous character is resurrected from the dead by being possessed by some demonic entity. It's likely that the Devil, having just escaped capture, needed a place to hide for a few years before becoming active again.
There are quite a lot of episodes that take place during World War II, which lasted from 1939-1945. Paul Driscoll unsuccessfully attempted to prevent the war from starting in 1939 (No Time Like the Past). Peter Jensen unsuccessfully attempted to prevent the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 (The Time Element). Arthur Takamori's father was an architect in Hawaii, who collaborated with the Japanese as a spy (The Encounter). During the Battle of the Atlantic in 1942, the HMS Queen of Glasgow is sunk by a Nazi German U-Boat (Judgement Night). The episode Quality of Mercy takes place at two points: the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in 1942 and the American liberation of the Philippines in 1945.
During the Battle of Solomon Sea in 1942, the Japanese sunk an American submarine of which Chief Bell was the sole survivor (The Thirty Fathom Grave). During the North African campaign in 1943, American pilot James Embry crash lands in the middle of the desert (King Nine Will Not Return). The Dachau concentration camp was liberated in April 1945, whose victims would later take vengeance against Gunther Lutze (Death's Head Revisited). On the day Adolf Hitler committed suicide in late April, his body was possessed by Arthur Castle (The Man in the Bottle). Hitler's ghost would go on to support Neo-Nazis of future generations (He's Alive). The episode The Purple Testament takes place in the summer of 1945 during the later stages of the Philippines campaign. Finally, like a bad penny Paul Driscoll shows up in August 1945 in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima (No Time Like the Past).
Due to Reddit's limitation of 4000 characters, I have to cut it off there. But if you don't find this effort too annoying I will proceed with posting the rest of the timeline tomorrow or later. TL;DR, the rest of the timeline goes like this:

2024.05.04 04:44 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 98 offenders executed by the state of Missouri since the 1970s and their crimes (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1 to 49]

Here is my list for Missouri's post Furman execution roster that I wrote for my personal death penalty project. I'll probably release Florida next, and I'm currently working on completing my list for Texas.
As always, the dates given are a time frame of the offender's earliest known criminal activities to their execution. Many of cases described here are extremely depraved in nature, so please read at your own risk. Missouri has also scheduled David Hosier for execution on June 11, and is filling death warrants for Christopher Collings and Marcellus Williams. If these future executions are carried out as planned, then I might update this post with their information.
Due to it exceeding the character count limitations that reddit allows for submissions, I had to divide this list into two separate posts. For the link to part 2, please click here.
The currently executed 98 offenders, cases 1 to 49:
1. George Mercer (~1960s-1989, lethal injection): Mercer was the president of the Missing Links MC motorcycle gang, a title he inherited after his predecessor was killed in a bar fight. Under his leadership, the gang involved itself heavily with organized crime, and had a well earned reputation for extreme violence. The gang harassed and assaulted what they deemed to be "political undesirables" such as left leaning hippies and prohibitionists, and terrorized those aligned with rival motorcycle gangs. They were also predatory towards teenage girls and young women. In one incident, Mercer beat a Vietnam veteran unconscious when the man tried to stop him from sexually harassing underaged girls at a concert, and gang-raped a kidnapped 17 year old girl with some associates in another. One of his followers lured Karen Keeton, a 22 year old tavern waitress, to Mercer's home as a "birthday present" for him. Mercer raped Keeton in his bedroom, and manually strangled her to death. Mercer and his gang members were also speculated to be involved in the murder of 15 year old David Eyman by some webslueths due to his ties with them, but credible evidence is currently lacking.
2. Gerald Smith (1983-1990, lethal injection): Smith beat his girlfriend, 22 year old Karen Roberts, to death with a metal pipe out of fear of her having a venereal disease. While awaiting execution, he stabbed a few death row inmate, 35 year old Robert Baker, with the help of another death row inmate, Frank Guinan. Baker was originally sentenced to death when he shot and killed a detective in a robbery.
3. Winford Stokes (~1969-1990, lethal injection): In 1969, Stokes and his accomplices shot and killed 60 year old Ignatius DiManuele while robbing his tavern. The trio were arrested weeks after the murder. During the trial, they made an escape attempt, but were all recaptured. Stokes was released from prison in 1977, and assaulted a 71 year old man with a claw hammer during a burglary a month later. He fatally shot 73 year old Marie Montgomery and stole her watch in one home invasion, and strangled and stabbed 33 year old Pamela Benda to death in another. Stokes seized Benda's jewelry after rummaging through her drawers.
4. Leonard Laws (1980-1990, lethal injection): Laws and his girlfriend's brothers (one of which was George Gilmore) decided to that the easiest way to earn money for their families was to rob and murder the elderly. He acted as a lookout while the Gilmore murdered and robbed the victims. They were responsible for a total of 5 killings.
5. George Gilmore (1980-1990, lethal injection): Gilmore, his brother, and their sister's boyfriend, the above mentioned Leonard Laws, targeted the elderly in a string of robberies. Their victims, 83 year old Elizabeth Roderique, 83 year old Mary Watters, 65 year old Woodrow Elliott, 83 year old Clarence Williams, and his 81 year old wife Lottie, were shot, stabbed, or strangled to death. After the gang sacked everything of value, they lit the homes on fire. The trio were also suspected in the strangulation murder of 75 year old Edna Winter, but the prosecution weren't able to convict them of it in court.
6. Maurice Byrd (1980-1991, lethal injection): Byrd stormed the Pope’s Cafeteria, a restaurant in a Des Peres mall, and shot 4 employees dead. He stole a total of $9,000 in the robbery. The victims include the manager, 51 year old James Woods, and cooks, 68 year old Edna Ince, and 51 year old Carolyn Turner, and 37 year old Judy Cazaco.
7. Ricky Grubbs (1984-1991, lethal injection): Grubbs and his brother tied 46 year old Jerry Thornton up with neck ties, and stabbed him to death in his trailer. The brothers stole an undisclosed amount of money and food stamps, and burned down the trailer to destroy any evidence of their crime.
8. Martsay Bolder (1973-1993, lethal injection): In 1973, a then teenage Bolder shot and killed 69 year old Louis Donovan in a robbery, and given a life sentence for it. While incarcerated, Bolder feuded with a fellow inmate, 24 year old Theron King. He stabbed King to death for allegedly yelling sexual obscenities at him, and received a death sentence for the killing. King was serving a life sentence for robbery at the time of his murder.
9. Walter Blair Jr. (~1979-1993, lethal injection): Blair allegedly shot and killed 16 year old Sandy Shannon in a robbery, but he wasn't convicted due to the apparent witnesses refusing to testify at the trail. After Blair was cleared of Shannon's murder, he was hired to kill 21 year old Katherine Allen by a man she accused of rape. Blair kidnapped Allen from her apartment, robbed her boyfriend, and shot her to death. His case received notoriety due to the number of his family members that were also convicted for unrelated high profile crimes. One of Blair’s brothers, Terry, was a serial killer that raped and murdered a minimum of 7 sex workers. Another brother, Clifford, abducted and sodomized a woman during a robbery. His sister Warnetta and her husband killed a man together in a robbery and murdered her boyfriend for trying to cut off her drug supply. One of her sons, Nolla IV, later murdered her husband as well. Two more of Warnetta’s, sons, Diamond and William had several robbery convictions. Last but not least, Blair’s mother Janice shot her children's stepfather to death during an argument.
10. Frederick Lashley (1981-1993, lethal injection): Lashley fatally stabbed his foster mother, 55 year old Janie Tracy, during an ambush in their home and stole $15 from her. Tracey had been raising Lashley since he was 2 years old, and had several infirmities, including heart diseases, diabetes and a neuromuscular disorder, at the time of her death.
11. Frank Guinan (~1964-1993, lethal injection): While serving a 40 year sentence for armed robbery, Guinan and another inmate, Richard Zeitvogel, stabbed a fellow prisoner, 30 year old John McBroom (who was incarcerated for drug dealing), to death. Gunian received the death penalty for Pugh's murder. On death row, Gunian assisted the previously mentioned Gerald Smith in the killing of Robert Baker. Guinan had a troubled youth, and was involved with several burglaries and a high speed car chase with police. He had also gotten into several fights with other inmates, and badly injured his cellmate, 38 year old Thomas Pugh (who was also serving a prison sentence for robbery), in one of his incidents.
12. Emmitt Foster (1983-1995, lethal injection): Foster and his accomplice forced themselves into the house that their acquaintance, 26 year old Travis Walker, shared with his girlfriend at gunpoint. The pair shot the couple, killing Walker and injuring his girlfriend. She survived by playing dead. They then sacked the home of any valuables and left. After Foster and his accomplice departed from the scene, Walker's girlfriend wrote down the attackers' names and ran out of the home for help.
13. Larry Griffin (1980-1995, lethal injection): According to prosecutors, Griffin shot and killed 19 year old Quinton Moss while was dealing drugs in a drive by shooting. As Moss was allegedly involved in the murder of Griffin's brother, the investigators believed that it was a revenge killing. His death sentence and execution was controversial, as Griffin's supporters and attorneys alleged that police misconduct occurred during the investigation. However, a posthumous review of his case in 2005 concluded Griffin's guilt.
14. Robert Murray (1985-1995, lethal injection): Murray and his brother held up two men, 27 year old Jeffrey Jackson and 26 year old Craig Stewart, and two women at gunpoint in an apartment. The brothers tied all four of them up, and raped both of the women. They extorted an undisclosed amount of money from their hostages with beatings and shot Stewart and Jackson in the head. The female captives on the other hand managed to jump out of windows to safety.
15. Robert Sidebottom (1985-1995, lethal injection): Sidebottom was upset by how little inheritance that his grandmother, 74 year old May, gave him and decided to grab more money by force in the form of collecting a life insurance policy from her. He broke into May's home and beat her unconscious with chair. As she was incapacitated from the beating, Sidebottom set the house on fire. Although the firefighters were able to put out the flames before she was seriously harmed by them, May died of the injuries she received in the assault.
16. Anthony LaRette (1976-1995, lethal injection): LaRette raped and murdered a minimum of 16 women between the ages of 18-60, but he might have been responsible for a total of 31 murders. All of his known victims were killed in stabbing attacks in their own homes and apartments. While awaiting trial, LaRette was also convicted of conspiring to murder a county jail guard with his father.
17. Robert O'Neal (1979-1995, lethal injection): O'Neal and an accomplice broke into a house that was owned by a prominent doctor, and encountered Ralph Sharick, the homeowner's 78 year old father in law. The pair bound Sharick, locked him in a closet, and shot him to death. They stole several musical instruments and guns in the robbery. O'Neal was captured a few days later and given a life sentence for the murder. During his time in prison, he joined the Aryan Brotherhood, and fatally stabbed a black inmate, 33 year old Arthur Dade, on the behalf on the local leadership. The motives for Dade's killing vary greatly on the source. Some claimed that he was murdered out of racism, while others asserted that it was over a drug trafficking related dispute.
18. Jeffrey Sloan (1985-1996, lethal injection): Sloan entered the bedroom of his parents, 41 year old Paul and 38 year old Judith, and shot them to death while they were in bed. He turned his attention towards his brothers, 18 year old Timothy and 9 year old Jason, and shot them dead in their rooms as well.
19. Doyle Williams (~1967-1996, lethal injection): In 1980, Williams and his partner shot and stabbed A. H. Domann, a 68 year old physician, while breaking into his office, and stole several prescription drugs. His partner's roommate, 28 year old Kerry Bummett, found the stolen drugs baring Domann's name, and the pair abducted her to eliminate a loose end. She was bound with handcuffs that Williams borrowed from a friend in the police force, taken to the Missouri river, and pistol whipped. Bummett jumped into the river in an attempt to escape, but ended up drowning in the process. William had several previous convictions for stealing cars and boats.
20. Emmett Nave (~1958-1996, lethal injection): In 1983, Nave shot his landlady, 53 year old Geneva Roling, dead after he knocked on her door. He then abducted his wife and forced her to drive him to a hospital. On arrival, Nave took 6 nurses hostage, and forced them to inject Demoral and Valium into his body. The kidnapped nurses were then taken to a house and raped. Most of them managed to escape, but Nave forced the remaining captive to administer more Demoral and Valium into him. Nave went unconscious from an overdose and was hospitalized after he was apprehended. He had a criminal record dating back to 1958, and many of his previous arrests include armed robbery, burglary, sexual assault, soliciting prostitutes, and joyriding.
21. Thomas Battle (~1979-1996, lethal injection): Battle and his brother-in-law's brother invaded the home of 80 year old Birdie Johnson and raped her. She was beaten and stabbed to death with a butcher knife. A year before Johnson's murder, Battle was fined for filing a false police report.
22. Richard Oxford (~1968-1996, lethal injection): Oxford and his cellmate escaped from the Conner Correctional Center in 1986, and kidnapped a married couple, 63 year old Harold and 57 year old Melba Wample, from their farm. The Wamples were missing for two months until the discovery of their bodies in a motel parking lot. Both of them had been bound and shot in the head. At the time of his escape and the murders, Oxford was serving a 85 year sentence for a rape and robbery spree, and had several previous convictions of burglary and theft that started when he was 11 years old.
23. Richard Zeitvogel (~1974-1996, lethal injection): While serving a combined total of 20 years in prison for rape and armed robbery, Zeitvogel assisted the above mentioned Guinan in killing John McBroom. He was given a life sentence for his part in the murder. A few years later, he fatally strangled his cellmate, 24 year old Gary Dew (who was also convicted of armed robbery), in their cell and was given the death penalty for it. Allegedly, Guinan and Zeitvogel were in a sexual relationship, and prosecutors believed that he murdered Dew to be placed on death row in a bid to be reunited with him.
24. Eric Schneider (1985-1997, lethal injection): Schneider and two accomplices broke into a home that two school teachers, 53 year old Richard Schwendemann and 55 year old Ronald Thompson, shared together. The homeowners were both bound with rope, wire, chains, and Christmas lights. Schwendemann was choked with a dog leash tied around his neck and shot twice in the head. Thompson suffered from 17 stab wounds in his neck, back, side, and head. A total of $1,800 in cash was stolen from their safe and car.
25. Ralph Feltrop (1987-1997, lethal injection): Feltrop got into an argument with his girlfriend, 27 year old Barbara Roam, in their home and stabbed her to death. He then cut off her head, hands, and legs from her body, and a foot from her one of her already dismembered legs, and tossed them into several garbage bags. In an attempt to dispose of Roam's remains, Feltrop dumped them into nearby ponds.
26. Donald Reese (1986-1997, lethal injection): Reese fatally shot four men, 38 year old Christopher Griffith, 54 year old James Watson, 57 year old John Burford, and Burford's 64 year old brother-in-law Donald Vanderlinden, at a shooting range. He took a total of $1,200 and all the victims' wallets from the scene.
27. Andrew Six (1984-1997, lethal injection): In Iowa, Six beat 41 year old Sarah Link, her 20 year son Justin Hook, and Hook's 19 year old fiance Tina Lade, to death with an unknown blunt instrument in their trailer. A few years later, Six and his uncle stormed a trailer that a pregnant 17 year old girl lived in with her family to rape her. They bound the target and her parents, and sexually assaulted her. The pair then abducted Kathy Allen, the target's cognitively disabled 13 year old sister, and slit their mother's throat in a failed attempt to kill her as they left. Allen was taken to Missouri, where she was repeatedly raped. Her throat was slit and and she was dumped in a ditch. Although Six was captured and sentenced to death for Allen's murder, the triple killings of Link, Hook, and Lade went unsolved until a DNA test in 2014, some 30 years after the murders and 16 years after Six's execution.
28. Samuel McDonald Jr. (~1960s-1997, lethal injection): McDonald held up 46 year old Robert Jordan at gunpoint while he was shopping with his 11 year old daughter. When Jordan pulled out his wallet, McDonald realized that he was a police officer, and shot him. Although he killed Jordan in the shooting, McDonald was wounded by his return fire. McDonald was captured after he was taken to the hospital by a friend. According a blogger that allegedly corresponded with McDonald on death row, he had killed an elderly woman and an infant in a village sweep during the Vietnam War, and lived as a petty criminal with several robbery convictions after his discharge from service.
29. Alan Bannister (~1980s-1997, lethal injection): Bannister accepted an offer for $4,000 by a man to kill 43 year old Darrell Ruetsman. The client wanted Ruetsman dead for running off with his wife. With the help of a piece of paper with Ruetsman's address, Bannister tracked his target to his trailer and shot him dead at his front door. At the time of the murder, Bannister was on parole for rape and armed robbery convictions.
30. Reginald Powell (1986-1998, lethal injection): Powell and his friends beat and stabbed two brothers, 39 year old Freddie and 29 year old Lee Miller, to death during a party. A total of $3 and a pack of cigarettes was stolen in the attack. Earlier that day, the Miller brothers had both refused to buy Powell and his friends (who were then below drinking age) alcohol for them. Powell had a conviction for receiving stolen property at the time of the murders.
31. Milton Griffin-El (1986-1998, lethal injection): Griffin-El went to an apartment to burglarize it. He tied up the residents, 22 year old Jerome Redden and his 19 year old girlfriend Loretta Trotter, and assaulted them in front of their 4 month old son. Trotter was fatally stabbed and Redden was bludgeoned to death with a wrench. Several electronics, including a stereo set and a television set, was stolen in the robbery.
32. Glennon Sweet (~1976-1998, lethal injection): In 1987, Sweet was pulled over by Russell Harper, a 45 year old officer, for speeding. Sweet opened fire on the officers as he climbed out of his truck, and killed Harper. He had several felonies and misdemeanors on his record, which included several charges of disturbing the peace, public intoxication, assault, drug possession, and theft.
33. Kelvin Malone (~1979-1999, lethal injection): Malone kidnapped at least 4 men and women, 62 year old William Parr, 55 year old Myrtle Benham, 51 year old Minnie White, and 39 year old James Rankin, in several robberies across California and Missouri. Most of his victims were shot in the head, but Benham was raped and beaten to death with a pipe. Belongings such as cars and credit cards were taken in the attacks. He was given a death sentence in both states, but chose to be incarcerated in California's San Quentin. Marlone was deported to Missouri when governor Mel Carnahan signed his death warrant. Beyond his murders, he was involved in several non fatal robbery abductions and robbed a judge at gunpoint in the man's own home.
34. James Rodden Jr. (1983-1999, lethal injection): Rodden got into a fight with his ex girlfriend on the phone, and threatened to have sex with Terry Trunnel, a 23 year old women he picked up from a bar, in an apparent attempt to make her jealous. After shouting more threats at his ex girlfriend, Rodden stabbed Trunnel and his roommate, 40 year old Joseph Arnold, to death. He then tried to burn their bodies in an attempt to destroy them.
35. Roy Roberts (~1970s-1999, lethal injection): In 1983, while serving an 18 year sentence for robbery, Roberts allegedly assisted in the stabbing death of Tom Jackson, a 62 year old correctional officer during a prison riot. His death sentence and execution was controversial due to wildly contradicting accounts from eyewitness testimonies. Some of the witnesses claimed to have seen him partaking in Jackson's murder, while others swore that they encountered Roberts in a different prison wing at the time of the murder. Roberts had other previous convictions such as theft and witness tampering at the time of the murder.
36. Roy Ramsey Jr. (1986-1999, lethal injection): Ramsay, his brother, and his brother's girlfriend held a couple, 65 year old Garrett and 63 year old Betty Ledford, at gunpoint after they opened their front door for them. The trio stole a combined total of $7,500 in cash, jewelry, silver coins, and guns, and shot both of the Ledfords dead. Ramsay had several previous robbery convictions, and sodomized a man during one of those incidents.
37. Ralph Davis (1986-1999, lethal injection): Davis shot his estranged wife, 35 year old Susan, to death in their car. Despite the fact that her body was never found, traces of Susan's blood and bone fragments were discovered in the vehicle. Furthermore, shotgun pellets were also recovered from the seats, and they matched to Davis' shotgun. He had a history of domestic abuse before the murder, and Susan's friends reported that Davis threatened to kill her when she filed for divorce.
38. Jessie Wise (1971-1999): In 1971, Wise ambushed 39 year old Ralph Gianino, and beat him to death with a pipe wrench. He then stole $26 from Gianino's wallet, and took his car on a joyride with the body still in the backseat. After Wise's capture, he was given a life sentence, but was paroled in 1983. A few years after his release, Wise went to the apartment of 49 year old Geraldine McDonald to discuss a job relating to washing her car. They got into an argument over money, and he beat her to death with a pipe wrench. Wise stole McDonald's credit cards, jewelry, and undisclosed amount of money. Some of the stolen jewelry was bartered for cocaine and the rest was given to his wife.
39. Bruce Kilgore (1979-1999, lethal injection): One of Kilgore's friends was fired from a restaurant after a coworker, 54 year old Marilyn Wilkins, reported him stealing food. Kilgore, the friend, and his friend then conspired a revenge scheme against Wilkins together. They accosted Wilkins in the restaurant's parking lot and dragged her into their car. During the abduction, Kilgore and his accomplices snatched her rings, slit her throat, and sold two of the stolen rings to a pawn shop. Kilgore had several robbery convictions prior to Wilkins' murder.
40. Robert Walls (1984-1999, lethal injection): Walls and two accomplices forced themselves inside the home of 88 year old Fred Hampton. They attacked Hampton, and broke several of his ribs and fractured his skull in a beating. Hampton was then stuffed alive in a freezer, and he succumbed to a combination of suffocation, hypothermia, and his injuries. The trio stole $100 and Hampton's car in the robbery. Walls had several robbery convictions prior to the murder.
41. David Leisure (~1980s-1999, lethal injection): Leisure, a Syrian immigrant, operated as an enforcer for the Leisure gang, a criminal syndicate under the rule of his cousins. During a gang war over the control of a labor union, he assassinated 75 year old James Michael Sr., a rival crime boss, with a car bomb.
42. James Hampton (~1950s-2000, lethal injection): Hampton abducted 58 year old Frances Keaton and her fiance Allen Mulholland in their own home. He bound them both and demanded $30,000 at gunpoint. After he detected the presence of arriving police officers with a police scanner, Hampton dragged Keaton to his car, and left Mulholland tied up alone in the house. Not wanting to be encumbered with a hostage while on the run, he beat Keaton to death with a hammer, buried her body, and burned her belongings. Hampton fled to New Jersey, and shot and killed 48 year old Christine Schurman during a botched kidnapping. He had spent most of his life in and out of prison for various crimes such as robbery, assault, and drug trafficking, and was first arrested at the age of 11.
43. Bert Hunter (~1963-2000, lethal injection): In 1968, Hunter shot and killed 64 year old John Lyle while robbing his tavern. He was given a life sentence for the murder, but was able to leave prison on parole in the 70s. After his release, Hunter partnered up with another ex convict, Tomas Ervin, for several robbery schemes. They invaded the home that 75 year old Mildred Hodges shared with her 49 year old son Richard. Hunter and Ervin bound the mother and son with duct tape, and ransacked the house for money. Despite their captives' desperate pleas for their lives, the pair suffocated them both with plastic bags. The pair then stole the Hodges' car and burned it in a motel parking lot. Hunter had several burglary arrests as a teenager.
44. Gary Roll (1992-2000, lethal injection): Roll and two other robbers tricked 47 year old Sherry Scheper into letting them inside her home by posing as police officers. They forced Sherry and her 17 year old son Randy to lie on the ground at gunpoint. After he shot Randy in the head, Roll beat Sherry to death with the butt of his gun. The trio also encountered Sherry's older son, 22 year old Curtis, and they fatally stabbed him during a scuffle. A total of $215 and some bags of marijuana were stolen in the robbery.
45. George Harris (~1982-2000, lethal injection): Harris entrusted his illegal submachine guns that he won in a crabs game to a friend for safe keeping. The friend then tasked his younger brothers with hiding the firearms, which they hid in the home of 20 year old Stanley Willoughby without telling him. When Harris returned to retrieve his guns, the friend redirected him to Willoughby's house. However, Willoughby had no clue of what Harris was talking about when he asked for his guns back. It quickly turned into a heated argument, and Harris shot and killed Willoughby out of anger. Years before he murdered Willoughby, Harris was arrested and convicted for armed robbery. He was also captured weeks after the killing while committing another armed robbery.
46. James Chambers (~1971-2000, lethal injection): Chambers struck 33 year old Jerry Oestricker in the head with his pistol and shot and killed him during a bar fight. He also had previous convictions of fraud, burglary, and attempted murder. The attempted murder conviction was for an incident involving him shooting a man in another bar fight.
47. Stanley Lingar (1985-2001, lethal injection): After Lingar lured 16 year old Thomas Allen into his jeep, he tried to force him to masturbate at gunpoint. When Allen was too terrified to obey, Lingar shot him. Allen survived the initial shooting, but he was finished off by a beating with a tire iron and Lingar running him over with the jeep. His execution was a source of minor controversy, as Lingar claimed that he was condemned solely for his sexuality.
48. Tomas Ervin (~1967-2001, lethal injection): In 1967, Ervin stabbed Robert Berry, a 36 year old cab driver, to death in a robbery, and was given a life sentence. After he was paroled in the 80s, he linked up with the above mentioned Bert Hunter, and assisted him in the robbery murders of Mildred and Richard Hodges.
49. Mose Young Jr. (1975-2001, lethal injection): Young fatally shot 3 pawn shop employees, 80 year old Sol Marks, 33 year old James Scneider, and 22 year old Kent Bicknese, after they refused to buy stolen jewelry from him. A fourth employee, who was also Mark's grandson, was injured in the shooting. He had a long criminal history, which included convictions for drug possession and first degree assault.

2024.04.30 06:33 Good-Fee-1933 I’m scared

Hello this is my first time posting I’m just trying to make a timeline till 2223 however I’m very nervous about asking for help so hello I’m trying to make a universe Where The Reaper is in a dark dimension or limbo idk yet but he wants revenge or something for plot I don’t really know but I enjoy writing I’m just not good at the story aspect.
Timeline of the Dark Universe.
13 trillion years ago. The Dark God Reaper emerged from the primordial Darkness.
5 Trillion years ago. A Great light emerged from the Primordial Darkness.
1 Trillion years ago. The 13 Great gods awoke from The primordial Light. Then the gods were young and dumb they experimented with their powers some creating atoms then forming great giant balls of gas then lighting them on fire(Stars) others gathered atoms and created huge balls of rock and dirt and threw them at each other (comets and asteroids). As the gods grew in experience and knowledge they started forming more complex structures and creations planets and galaxies all for the fun of it.
500 billion years ago. The gods had grown bored of playing with lifeless galaxies so the 13 Great gods gather together and share knowledge and different ideas for 1 billion years they told each other how each of them used their Old Magic(magic of the Gods).
499 billion years ago. The gods ended their delegation they all had spread across the Primordial light and started creating Life.
300 billion years ago. The primordial Light is teaming with many many proto-species beings of vast power and ability some even rivaling The Great Gods themselves.
200 billion years ago. As the Gods create more proto-species they start to come closer and closer to the Primordial Darkness.
100 billion years ago. The First time a god stepped through the veil and entered the primordial Darkness a searing pain struck the Reaper’s essence. An instant later The Great god was sent reeling back faster than light across the multiverse crashing through several planets and stars.
50 billion years ago. The gods start to prepare themselves and their Armies for WAR. The Reaper feeling growing forces in The Light Prepares by creating his First Dark Lord Stalker and imbues him with a fraction of The Dark Gods power.
40 billion years ago. The Dark Armies Take the fight to The light and catch them by surprise. The death toll is in The septillions.
35 billion years ago. After The Equilibrium War The Dark God Reaper has created his own universe of Darkness and The Gods combined their power to create one Prime universe When things die whether it be a planet, star, human, demon, god anything when it dies it goes to the Reaper’s Universe of Darkness. The prime universe made by the gods where their creations could flourish. Many of the proto-species were wiped out except for proto-humans, proto-geolites, proto-demons,proto-sages, proto-nithrials.
30 billion years ago. The Dark god is going into a deep slumber and before he does he creates 9 more Dark Lords The second eldest, The second Lord, Eternal elusive, Grim. After Grim was The greatest magic caster, The one with all eyes open, The Third Lord, Magnus. After Magnus The unending Rot,everlasting Plague, The GrandPlague Father, The Forth Lord Rotrin. After Rotrin was the eternal vitality, The endless healer, The Fifth Lord, Nutria. After Nutria came the Sixth Lord The Black Fire Demon, The Darkest Flame, The Sixth Lord, Embar. After Embar came The Great Giant, The Eternal Watcher, The Planetary Hand, The seventh Lord Titas. After Titas came The endless Ocean, The everlasting Depths, The eighth Lord Aquim. After Aquim came The Time Queen, The never born, The Ninth Lord Geniq. After Geniq came The Silent Madness, The scream of the night, The Tenth Lord Tymon. As The Dark God Reaper names his children he goes into a deep sleep.
End of prehistory.
Year 1. All 13 Great Gods settled on earth each with vast swaths of land.
1.Ya-we/great wataka: North America. Known as The Northern Continent. He controls the middle and western most parts of the continent. Affinity of power. The strongest most powerful god. 2.vririma:South America, known as The Southern Continent. affinity for poison. 3.gonson:Africa,affinity for earth 4. ocdean:Pacific Ocean. Affinity for water 5.Odain:Greenland/Iceland/the Arctic, affinity for ice. 6.Lemmael:Middle East affinity for sand and magic. 7.pruin:Russia. Known as The Great North. affinity for violence and drinking 8.bu-diah:India/Indian ocean affinity for peace and wisdom. 9.Shandiî:China/Great sky palace. Affinity for wind and technology. 10.Amata:Japan. Affinity for fire and beauty. 11.Byaami:Australia. Affinity for bugs and Hunting 12. Zeus:Europe, affinity for lightning. 13.tyranuis:Atlantic Ocean/Antarctic
Each God was able to form their domain as they saw fit and each enhanced The natural aspect of each of their environments.
Year 2. The Gods had created their domains and seeded it with various forms of life based on ya-we design of humans. All around the world humans of different skin tones, heights, weights, hair everything made each human unique.
Year 3. As The humans were created and worshipped The Great Gods. Some humans were drawn not to the gods but to themselves, and so sought to create things as the gods did them.
Year 5. Some Humans had started gathering in places called schools where they taught each other and traded learnt knowledge.
Year 6. The Great Gods were growing irritated at the emergence of what some would call rudimentary mechanics there were carts with wheels on them lead by animals, the humans were making larger buildings almost to try to compete with the gods. As the Gods realized this they ventured down to confront the humans they all bowed with awe and admiration. The gods realized that this advanced was not a threat so they permitted it.
Year 15. A unexpected occurrence happened when one day The Great Gods felt magic emerging somewhere on the planet. All The gods rushed to the source of the magic when they arrived they noticed a beautiful resounding light coming from a crack in reality from it emerged a new god. The middle God Mecharo First of The Middle Gods. The Great Gods deliberated about this occurrence for hours when they came to the conclusion it was not known to records.
Year 20. As when The first new God emerged into reality and several subsequent new middle gods came through The 13 Great Gods felt a terrible magic sprung forth from a tear in reality however when The Great Gods arrived They didn’t witness a great light no this time The hole in reality that had Been carved was like a black hole an endless eternity of Darkness. What came crawling out of that hole was as terrible as it was unexpected, it was a terrible plague contagious enough to infect The Great Gods and Lethal enough to kill The weaker Middle Gods present. The Godreap is a disease That infects through inhalation, skin contact, liquid consumption, or sexual activity. It starts by eating at the victim muscles and bones causing extreme pain and the tearing of muscle fibers all within the first few minutes, afterward The victims soul begins to deteriorate and erode causing the individual to become catatonic and unable to defend themselves. While the individual is still technically alive they can do nothing but lay there while in terrible agony as their bones and muscles slowly break down and liquify after 10 or so minutes. Unless one is strong enough to withstand the bodily effects of The GodReap virus they are damaged in their very essence unable to utilize their full power ever again.
Year 22. After the devastating attack from The Dark rift a huge impenetrable magic storm was cast around the rift and no human was to venture there. The Great Gods have healed as best they can.
Year 23-60. Humans have now started utilizing their knowledge and understanding of the world The Great Gods gave them to start to farm and use basic tools.
Year 61. The humans on The southern continent have developed new techniques for mining and harvesting better metals. The humans in The Middle East have developed the precursor to modern magic. The humans of The Arctic have developed boats to easily navigate the waters of their region. The humans of The Northern Continent have developed a great connection and reverence for their land.
Year 67. In Japan a family known as asukage had amassed great wealth and power due to his great influence and respect to The Great God Amata. He had started an empire to conquer great lands in the name of Amata. The kingdoms of Europe are beginning to become established, lead by powerful kings and queens some even blessed by the Gods. The family of Ivorstead and its king Andreus Ivorstead has made a great kingdom reigning over its people with a vicious authority.
Year 77. After many campaigns and many battles The head of The Asukage Family, Lord nishiro Asukage lead his army to the shores of China Where The Great Goddess Shandiî cast a monsoon over the arriving ships and blew them all the way back to Japan. Amata angered over his perceived slight confronted The goddess who was equally angered at the blatant invasion. As the gods argued and were about to fight Ya-we The most powerful Great God clapped his hands together and transported all The 13 Great Gods from around the world and gathered them into a small pocket universe where they would layout new rules for Their interactions with humans. 1. No God may Fight or kill another God. 2. No God will set their followers on another God or their territory. 3. No God will meddle with mortals to cause action to another God. 4. No God can intervene in actions set by another God. 5. No God can kill another Gods kin or one branded as kin. Year 78. After The rules were put in place The Gods decided to mostly observe humanity for the most part. Except those such as Amata, Lemmael and Pruin. Who all stayed active in their respective territories.
Year 79-205. The time of Magic. This period saw great developments in magic starting in the Middle East then slowly spread across the world. This started when a Child of Lammael a first generation Godkin named Nankuruk opened a school of great magic to try and teach the masses of the greatness that the universe could entail.
Year 206-365. The great revolution. With the growing prevalence of magic, those who are not gifted in the supernatural took to the sciences and discovered new ways to make tools weapons anything to help give an edge in their pursuit of power. They made metal tools and weapons learning to lay traps for animals that would beat them in pure strength.
Year 366-607. Golden era/Great oppression. After the rise of grand technology that aided society and the development of the species as a whole many who couldn’t use magic wanted to snuff it out across the world however most places refused to conform to such standards.
608-1190 Great peace. After the golden age many of the oppressed who rose in power during that time gained favorable positions of power and deemed it necessary for peace to prevail. So for a great many years the nations of the world were able to come to a peaceful consensus on the issues of the golden age.
1191-1432 mysteries.
1433-1580.

I was just out on the beach casting with my Okuma Cedros surf rod and let me tell you, it's been a game changer. The medium-heavy rod is perfect for those 2-3 ounce lures, and with its fast action, it's great for surf fishing.
One thing that truly impressed me was the double footed guide frames. They're made of stainless steel and have Zirconium inserts, making them resistant to corrosion, which is perfect for those saltwater fishing trips. I also loved the rubber shrink tube handle with the tapered rear grip; it's comfortable and provides a good grip even in wet conditions.
But, no product is perfect. I did notice that after a few outings, the top guide frame began to fray a bit. It's not a deal breaker, but it's something I had not experienced with other rods. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with this Okuma Cedros surf rod. It's a reliable, well-built piece of equipment that's perfect for surf fishing enthusiasts.

Berry Pro Surf Rod: This incredible fishing rod from Daiwa is built to handle the toughest conditions and biggest catches. The super strong carbon fiberglass blanks provide unmatched durability, while the new eye-catching cosmetics add a touch of style to your fishing adventure.
The stainless steel reel seat hoods and guides ensure smooth performance, and the spin, cast, surf, and boat rods offer versatility for any situation. The full foam grips give you a comfortable grip even in slippery conditions, making this rod a must-have for those who love to fish.

🔗Okuma VSS-S-1004H Voyager Signature Series Surf Spinning Rod - Light, Responsive 24-ton Carbon Fiber

As a keen fisherman, I've found the Okuma VSS-S-1004H Voyager Signature Series Surf Spinning Rod to be a game-changer in my adventures. With the ability to break down into four portable pieces, it's the perfect companion for long treks and sandy beaches. The 24-ton carbon rod blanks are both light and responsive, making it an effortless tool for those long casts and precise hook sets.
The Fuji Tangle Free guide frames with FazLite inserts are thoughtfully designed to prevent tangles and guarantee smooth line flow, while the Fuji DPS reel seat offers solid reliability even when away from home. The non-slip shrink tube and EVA fore and rear grips are comfy and suitable for hours on end of casting in the sand.
Sure, it might not be as sleek as some high-end rods, but the ease of portability trumps any minor design quips, and it doesn't affect the overall casting performance. The Okuma Voyager Signature Series Surf Spinning Rod, with its packed-rods functionality, is a must-have tool for any fisherman on the go.

🔗Advanced Surfcaster Rod: ODM Genesis NXGX-93, Built for Power and Precision

https://preview.redd.it/n9k6cdjtsewc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f272550ca2950934e7383e194a04de648e6bb11c
I had the chance to use the ODM Genesis Surf Rods NXGX-93, and I must say I was impressed! The first thing that caught my eye was the modern and sleek design. It's the perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality, making it not only pleasing to the eye but also convenient to use.
What stood out for me were the rod's handling and balance. It felt lightweight yet strong, making it effortless to cast with ease. The 4-piece split was another great feature, as it allowed me to break it down and transport it easily without compromising its integrity.
However, I did notice a minor drawback; it didn't cast as far as I anticipated, but it still performed exceptionally well. Additionally, the price might be on the higher end for some, but I believe it truly offers excellent value for the advanced technology and materials it incorporates.
Overall, my experience using the ODM Genesis Surf Rods NXGX-93 was quite positive, with a perfect combination of style, performance, and quality craftsmanship.

I recently had the chance to try out the Okuma RHD-S-902M Rockway HD Surf Rod, and I must say, it did not disappoint. As someone who spends a significant amount of time on the water, it's essential for me to have quality fishing equipment that's built to withstand the elements and perform reliably.
One feature that stood out to me was the light and responsive 24/30-ton, low resin carbon rod blank. It allowed me to cast farther and with greater precision than any other rod I've used. The UFR-Ultimate Flex Reinforcement tip technology was another impressive element, providing incredible lifting strength and power without sacrificing sensitivity.
However, there were a few drawbacks to this rod that I encountered during my time with it. The handle, made of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate, felt a bit plasticky and less comfortable in my hand than I would have preferred. Also, the rod seemed to be a bit on the heavy side, which took some getting used to after using lighter rods for a while.
Overall, the Okuma RHD-S-902M Rockway HD Surf Rod offers a great combination of performance and durability for any avid fisherman. While there are a few areas for improvement, the positives far outweigh the negatives. It's clear that Okuma puts a lot of thought into crafting their fishing equipment, and this rod is no exception.

🔗Durable, Lightweight Berry Pro Surf Rod

https://preview.redd.it/tchcbshusewc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cec6c9d7de5d3365a0b2772e4cbf543d116e10aa
The Shimano Surf Gaiser Synchronized All-Mighty Long Throw Fishing Rod is an impressive tool for anyone seeking adventure on the water. A bit of a mouthful, I know! But give it a try and you'll understand why it's worth the effort.
I've spent hours on the beach with this bad boy, casting it out into the waves and hoping against hope that I'd catch something big. The total length of 14.4 feet (or 4.05 meters, if you prefer) means you're sure to have plenty of reach. But it's not just the length that's impressive – it's also the weight. At 15.2 ounces (or 435 grams), it's surprisingly lightweight for its size.
The rod isn't just about length and weight, though. It's the way it handles that really won me over. The carbon content is an impressive 99.6%, which means it's sturdy enough to take some abuse from the waves without breaking. And when I say take some abuse, I mean it! Have you ever been fishing with a rod that you had to throw into the water every time a sudden gust made it impossible to use? Well, you won't have that problem with the Shimano Surf Gaiser Synchronized All-Mighty Long Throw Fishing Rod.
Of course, no product is perfect. I did notice that the rod can be a bit cumbersome to stow away when I'm done fishing for the day. That's a minor complaint, though. The weight load is decent, but not spectacular. And while the guides look okay, they're not exactly top-notch. But I'm not using this rod to win a beauty contest – I'm using it to catch some fish!
All in all, this is a pretty great product. It might not be perfect, but with the Shimano Surf Gaiser Synchronized All-Mighty Long Throw Fishing Rod, I'm pretty sure I can conquer the waves. Will you?

🔗Powerful and Sensitive Surfcasting Rod

Imagine spending a cozy weekend at the beach, soaking in the sun with your favorite surfside rod in hand. This 4.50m/100-175g surfcasting rod, simply named the "Blue 4.50, " might just be the perfect companion to your sandy getaway.
The first thing that stands out when you hold it is its extremely slim handle, giving you a light and comfortable grip, but don't let it fool you. Despite its slender appearance, it comes loaded with a strong and powerful blank. Its composite construction ensures durability and exceptional performance, delivering a sensitive yet resilient action.
But that's not all. The "Blue 4.50" is adorned with a white top and stainless steel components, adding a touch of elegance to its design. The rod is also a breeze to fish with braid, and the highly visible tip makes those elusive nibbles all the more apparent.
On the downside, some of you might prefer a bit more heft and girth on your rod, making this one a slightly more challenging catch for beginners. Nevertheless, for those who have caught the surfcasting bug, this "Blue 4.50" is a well-priced, top-tier rod that's sure to make your time at the shore an unforgettable experience.

🔗Okuma Rockaway Surf Spinning Rod: Lightweight, Powerful Saltwater Fishing Rod

I've been using the Okuma Rockaway Surf Spinning Rod for a while now, and it's become my go-to rod for surf angling. The lightweight and responsive construction, along with the well-balanced tip-over-butt design, make it a breeze to use for hours on end.
The Sea Guide stainless steel guides with Zirconium inserts stood out to me due to their durability. They held up well to my braided line and prevented any abrasions. The tapered shrink tube grip offers a non-slip surface even on wet days, which is great.
However, the rod could be improved in terms of versatility. It's designed for casting light lures, but when I tried heavier ones, the performance wasn't as smooth. Additionally, the rod weight can make it challenging to land bigger fish.
Overall, the Okuma Rockaway Surf Spinning Rod makes for a reliable and comfortable surf angling rod with a few minor drawbacks.

🔗Carbon Surf Fishing Rod for Lightweight, Sensitive Beach Casting

The Spro Sellion Surfcasting Rod is a versatile companion for a day at the beach. Its 4.20-meter length and 100-200 gram casting weight provide the range and power you need for successful fishing trips. Crafted from premium carbon materials, this rod is both lightweight and incredibly sensitive.
With a robust hollow tip, you'll have no trouble navigating even the trickiest casts. The rod's three-part design allows for effortless transport, making it perfect for casual and experienced anglers alike. Although some users might find it slightly heavier than expected, the Spro Sellion Surfcasting Rod offers a fantastic blend of performance and value.

I recently had the opportunity to try out Marathon's Guardian Surf Spinning Rod, and I must say it did not disappoint. The first thing that stood out to me was the rugged tubular E-glass blank and solid glass tip - providing power and durability. With its stainless steel guide frames and aluminum oxide inserts, the rod was able to handle my heaviest lures without any issues, making it perfect for my frequent ocean adventures.
The graphite reel seat with stainless steel cushioned hoods provided a comfortable grip during long fishing sessions, while the durable EVA and rubber shrink wrap grips ensured a firm hold that never slipped. The rod length of 9'0" was just right for my needs, but I could see how the slightly heavier construction might be a bit much for some users. Overall, I was impressed with the Guardian Surf Spinning Rod's performance and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, powerful, and sturdy tool for their fishing excursions.

🔗High-Quality Berrypro Surf Fishing Rod and Comfortable Features

I recently had the pleasure of using the Berrypro Surf Spinning Rod in my daily fishing adventures. As a seasoned angler, I appreciate the importance of a reliable and high-quality rod. With its IM7 X-Carbon technology blanks, this Berrypro Surf fishing rod truly stands out in terms of sensitivity and power.
The rods' stainless steel guide with ceramic rings made my casting experience incredibly smooth and hassle-free. The precision alignment of the guides guaranteed that the sensitivity from the line was transferred to my hand perfectly, offering a superior long cast experience.
In terms of build quality, the Berrypro Surf rod boasts high-strength reel seats, high-density EVA grips, a shrink tube design, textured carbon fiber surface, and a rubber butt cap. These well-thought-out features made each fishing session more comfortable and convenient for me.
The rod's professional design also caught my attention. The precise data calculation combined toughness, flexibility, and aesthetics to create an exceptional pole. Overall, I'm beyond satisfied with the performance and quality of the Berrypro Surf Spinning Rod and will definitely recommend it to fellow fishermen.

🔗Berry Pro Surf: Versatile Medium Heavy Rod for Surf Fishing

https://preview.redd.it/259zff8xsewc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3d3c2d0b42e4a8bfbcc1268be71473221f7e34d
I recently had the pleasure of using the Tica Surf Umga 7' Medium Spinning Rod for a day of pier fishing. The graphite material gave it a perfect blend of strength and sensitivity, allowing me to feel even the slightest of nibbles.
The robust Zirconium ring guides also made a huge difference in the smoothness of casting. The sliding foldable hook keeper was a great feature as well, keeping the hook in place without any issues.
However, one downside I noticed was that the non-slip cork tape handle became a bit slippery when I had wet hands, which could be an area for improvement. Overall, it was a reliable and functional tool suited for various fishing environments.

🔗Lightweight, Foldable Surfcasting Rod for Accurate Casting

https://preview.redd.it/8n3eohmxsewc1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cce3bcf03b76cc6517ec558e599bbe3ff48be91
I recently tried the Spro Selion Surfcasting Rod and let me tell you, it was a game changer for my surfcasting experience. The full carbon blank of the rod was a game changer, making it both lightweight and incredibly powerful. The thinness of the rod added to its sensitivity, ensuring that every jerk was registered on the line.
What stood out to me was the ease with which it propelled weights up to 200g, and the accuracy it offered. The quality of the components used in the rod was evident, and I found the price to be a great balance with the quality. The tubular tip offered better control, while the slight addition of the folding tip ring was a nice touch.
While it was a great experience overall, there were a couple of minor issues that I noticed. Firstly, it could have been a bit more durable. Also, the weight of the rod was a bit too light, which resulted in a bit of overshooting during casting. But overall, it was a fantastic product for surfcasting, and I would highly recommend it to any angler looking to upgrade their gear.

Generally, longer rods (around 12 feet) are more suitable for larger waves, while shorter rods (around 8 feet) are better for smaller waves. Consider your skill level and the type of waves you'll be surfing when choosing the right length. Additionally, a lighter rod may be easier to carry and maneuver but could compromise durability.

Grip and Handle Design

A comfortable grip and handle design are essential for a surf rod. Look for one with a non-slip grip to prevent accidents and ensure a secure hold. The handle should also be ergonomically designed for a comfortable feel during long surf sessions.

Flexibility and Durability

A surf rod should be flexible enough to handle different wave conditions but also durable enough to withstand the constant impact of the ocean. Check the flexibility of the rod by bending it gently – it should flex without breaking. Additionally, ensure the rod is designed with strong materials and has a reinforced connection point to increase its lifespan.

Price and Warranty

Consider your budget and the price range of the surf rod. Generally, more expensive surf rods come with better materials, construction, and brand reputation. It is also essential to look for a warranty or return policy in case of any issues with the product.

User Reviews and Ratings

Before making a purchase, read customer reviews and ratings to get an idea of the product's performance and any potential issues. This will help you make an informed decision and ensure you're getting a high-quality surf rod that meets your needs.

2024.04.22 21:01 Numerous-Possible-27 Need advice to help with work problem AS/OCD/PTSD

Hi all, I need some advice to help a situation at work that I have no control over.
I have Asperger’s, OCD and PDST. If provoked my “fight or flight” kicks in and I have a nasty habit of being extremely aggressive, angry and violent.
For context PTSD was diagnosed 2023.
I was held captive for two months and tortured hourly and daily (aged 12, note: physical & mental nothing sexual). Held hostage for 12 hours in a separate situation, then stabbed. I’ve lost my best friend. This being the only real friend I had. The only person I counted on to help me and my anchor. I’ve been shot several times, stabbed and also been in an explosion nearly losing a leg. There are other things I can’t/wont go into. This is why I resort to violence. The ptsd overpowers my brain.
When I’m in a position I know 1000% I’m in the right and other people are twisting facts, out right lying and trying to sandbag my career. I have no understanding of why it’s happening and why it’s happening to me. Or how to deal with it.
I’m under no illusion, I come across as being abrupt, out spoken, ass hole and ignorant. I will say things which people do not like. They don’t agree with and I’m terrible at trying to joke. My humour is extremely dry, to the point people find it vulgar.
I’m a civil engineer, 36yo male and have only been diagnosed with the above for the past year. I have informed my employment of my mental health and they 100% understand me as a person. But due to it being a very workman like 1980’s environment. There’s no real hr department. It’s an extremely old school environment. Which suits me because I can, to a degree, get away with my potty mouth.
This is my first job where I’ve not been the boss/manager. 99% of my work is field based solo working. Which is amazing for me as I hate everyone, but tolerate some.
I’m in a situation where some idiot at work is trying to get me into trouble with the owner. This is vindictive and premeditated.
He has tried this several times prior. But due to me being me, I’ve kept records/receipts for all interactions. Proving that I’m correct, he’s stupid and a liar. I’ve been pulled in the office and dressed down. To then prove I’m correct and he’s incorrect.
The problem is, I’m now in a situation where he has cost me a pay rise. I was going to physically hurt him but I’d get myself in more trouble and he’s not worth it, because he’d win then. The person in question is fully aware of my conditions and I think he’s doing this on purpose. I’ve told him several times. If he thinks I’ve missed something or he doesn’t understand my notes to ask me. He will do that, but still go to the owner afterwards. What I think is out of spite and bitterness.
I do not understand why he’s doing what he is. I don’t want to resort to violence. I just need help from people who’re more experienced and knowledgeable with autism. What’s the best thing to do without getting arrested and how do I explain to my boss and manager what this is doing to my mental health? My direct manager is aware of the previous attempts to get me in trouble. But he’s extremely reluctant to rock the boat with the owner.
Ps this is a throwaway account.

Chapter Seventeen:
I’d never been on a ship before. Sure, I’d watched a few at Naval Base Kitsap when I dated a girl serving her country. But it’s not like civilians are invited to come aboard. And those ships were much different than the Jolly Roger I now found myself inside of.
The captain’s quarters were more spacious than I expected. Five glass lanterns hung lit throughout the cabin with most of the light concentrated on a large round desk in the center of the room. Captain Smee sat behind the desk in a plush red chair nailed to the floor. Behind him, large windows covered in red curtains tried to let in even more light. Smells of lumber and parchment filled my nostrils as I gazed around.
To my left sat a large hammock and a chest of the captain’s personal effects. A small painting of a man with long charcoal hair and a hook for a hand hung near the entrance with several knives sticking out from it. The painting looked rather old and worn.
If I expected squeaky floorboards when Smee set my birdcage down on the table, I came away shocked. His floor was quiet as a mouse with each step he took.
The captain wasn’t rough in his carrying the cage, either. He didn’t swing it or jiggle things around so I’d fall into the bars. He carried it securely with a tight grip.
I watched the man reach into his heavy oak chest, fetch a glass and a bottle with a “Captain’s Hooch” label, and stroll back to the table without eyeing me once.
He poured himself a drink, took exactly two sips, and sighed.
“You know, Sylva. Can I let you in on a secret? I hate this place.”
That wasn’t the opener I expected from a captain who had every ability to torture and kill me for a book I didn’t possess.
“Why?” I asked, daring to find my voice.
Smee didn’t look upset at my asking. He just took another drink before answering.
“Too many fucking birds. Everywhere I look, there are crows cawing through the trees, magpies hopping through the grass, and yes, ravens, that perch on every building, like they’re always watching. It leaves me feeling itchy and cramped. This is a big capital city, and I feel like I can’t take three steps without smelling or hearing those goddamn birds. It’s maddening.”
I hadn’t really noticed that until Smee brought it up. But he was right. Whether it was jays, jackdaws, treepies, or nutcrackers, birds seemed to fill every inch of this city, regardless of the elves they flew over.
“The Crocodile Court and Never Court aren’t like this. They’re smaller islands, and most of the birds were hunted to death years ago. You can actually find places of quiet. So you can understand why I’m eager to retrieve my king’s book and be on my way. The weeks I’ve tarried here have been more trying than anything else in my career as a captain, save for killing James and taking the ship, of course.”
Smee turned his head sharply to the right and cracked his neck.
“Yup. That’s the good stuff. Personally, I don’t give a rat’s ass about some old tome, Sylva. When you and Pann broke into the king’s library and smuggled it out, I found it rather amusing. But the Crocodile King, like many fae, is rather possessive of his treasure. So, I was forced to halt my efforts to seize the Never Court, and sent to retrieve the accursed book.”
Gods, this book has inconvenienced more people than I imagined, I thought.
Audibly gulping, I pondered what I would say. Would he believe that I used to be human? Could I tell him the book was in Washington? Would he even know where that was?
“So, let’s have it, then. The Never Prince claims you stole the Book of Tevaedah from him and hid it, a brilliantly executed double-cross, a maneuver of which, I’m a big fan. Now, I could employ all manner of discomfort to make you tell me where it is. Gods know that I broke any number of James’ men, ripping out toenails, pouring liquid fire into their eyes, choking them with their own hair, etc.
“But torture takes time to guarantee results. And I’m nothing, if not, a practical man. Therefore, I propose a simple bargain. Tell me where to retrieve the tome. And when I have it, I’ll dump you onto the docks, sail away, and our paths will likely never cross again. I’ll even pin the entire theft on Pann. How does that sound?”
After how quickly Pann had given me up, that sounded like a pretty good deal. But if I told Smee where to find the book in the human world, would he send men to retrieve it? Sylva probably deserved to deal with that level of bullshit, but Blake certainly didn’t. And I was under no pretenses Smee’s men would make distinctions between ex-fairies and full-time mortals when it came to getting in the way of their job.
Or maybe Smee’s men wouldn’t go to the human world. Could they even return to the mortal world?
I guess that was a risk I’d have to take telling the truth.
“Captain, I’m sorry to tell you this, but I’m not Sylva.”
“Oh?” he asked, neither angry nor amused. He took another drink of his hooch while he waited for me to spin my yarn.
“My name is Anola. I’m a former human that Sylva used the Book of Tevaedah to trade lives with. Two weeks ago, she interrupted my wedding and stole my body, dumping my soul into hers. Shortly after, Sylva tossed me down a hole in a tree, and I fell into Faerie. I assume she’s still living my life back in the mortal world and has the book there. But I can’t be sure as long as I’m here.”
The captain leaned back and stroked his chin.
“That’s an interesting tale, tiny piskie. I hear many stories sailing from port to port under the banner of the Crocodile King. This world is filled with much madness. And for a time, I found it entertaining. But I eventually came to realize madness is only ever really fun for the people on top. It tends to make life more difficult for underlings. That’s why I decided to stop being one.”
“So you believe me?”
Smee shrugged.
“What you say is possible, I suppose. The book is supposed to be an extremely powerful relic made by a witch long since dead. Or, you could be yanking me. Seems the best odds I give it are 50/50, you’re speaking the truth.”
My heart sank. What would he do if he decided I wasn’t telling the truth? Shaking the birdcage and throwing me into the iron bars would be just the start of what this man was capable of.
Perhaps what I found most terrifying about Smee was his brand of evil was quiet and calculating. In the cartoon, his former boss was always portrayed as a loud, irate man who squandered every chance at defeating Pann due to his impetuous nature.
Smee didn’t have that. If he wanted to be cruel, he simply would be. There’d be no need to make a show about it, whether he was hanging a man by his entrails or cutting out tiny pieces of a prisoner’s tongue every day until they broke.
I opened my mouth to speak when my runeeye activated without warning, a loud popping noise filling the birdcage and sending a rattle of glamour that dispersed upon hitting an iron boundary.
Looking at the iron cage around me, I saw natural glamour in the air poisoned by the very presence of this corrosive substance. The bars took on an extra visible layer of cruelty within my runesight, appearing less like wire and more like knotted coal and rust.
Wait a minute, I thought. I’ve seen something like this before.
Smee’s words snapped my attention back to the pirate captain.
“That’s an interesting look. Are those tiny stars in your eye going to help you remember something else about the book’s location?” Smee asked, draining his glass.
Before I could answer, a new vision spread before me, a chalkboard-sized ghostly parchment with scribbles that looked like my handwriting scattered everywhere. Words like “Kilgara” and “Raven Queen” hovered over lines that slowly connected paragraphs and other tiny pieces of information.
I glanced at different pieces and found it hard to process the parchment as a whole. This felt like seeing medieval Jarvis lay out everything I knew about Faerie and my place in it so far.
Tracing lines passed from Kilgara to Raven Queen and then circled the words “boon” and “Queen Bon-Hwa.” Details of bargains and favors I hadn’t considered passed before my eyes.
Other words appeared in my periphery like “war” and “Fist of Kairn.”
Everything intersected closer to the end where “chaos” became the biggest word of all. But it all started with the phrase “iron sickness.”
“That’s a queer look you’re wearing, little elf. Are you looking at something my mortal eyes can’t see?”
He sounded perfectly patient, but under his tone was a hint of malice that promised pain if I didn’t start making more sense soon. Curiosity could easily be replaced with animus.
But amid all the words and information I saw on this. . . let’s call it a specter roadmap, one was noticeably missing. . . Smee.
“You’re not a part of this story,” I said, my mouth feeling like it was on autopilot again, as it had been when I stood before Varella. “At least, not for much longer. You are an insignificant bump on the path to much more grand and troubling issues. Check your place, mortal. For the lakes and seas, you’ve called home, despite being an unwelcome guest, will soon be rid of you. Oh, he who plays at being a pirate captain, you will soon find yourself plucked from Faerie as a splinter from an agitated thumb.”
Coughing and scratching my neck, I looked up to see Smee raising an eyebrow.
“Well, that’s not a language I’ve heard spoken before. Would you care to enlighten me on how a human would speak in a tongue like that?”
Instead of answering, I stared through the polished wood of Smee’s bedroom wall and found a massive concentration of glamour standing on the docks outside. The glamour writhed and twisted about like an impatient serpent.
“Anola? Are you done speaking to me?”
“There’s no need for us to continue talking. Queen Bon-Hwa is here.”
The captain raised his eyebrow.
“And how can you be sure of that?”
Before he could ask a second time, a knock at the door interrupted our conversation. Smee grimaced.
“Come in.”
A shirtless man with skin the color of rice walked in through the door. His brown shorts were tattered, and a large scar ran across his ribs. Curly red hair bounced around him as he walked toward us.
“What is it, Starkey?”
“We found her, sir, exactly where you said. What do you want us to do?”
Smee grinned, and I shivered as that calculating cruelty revealed itself in stronger form. His eyes seemed to grow while the captain pondered his options for whatever it was his crew had found.
“Tied her up below deck. Remember those chains I told you to fetch?”
“Aye, sir. I’ll see it done.”
With that, Starkey turned to leave. Just before he exited the captain’s quarter, he turned back toward us.
“Oh, and sir? The Raven Queen is standing on the docks outside our ship. She hasn’t said anything yet. But I thought you should know.”
Smee glanced back at me before dismissing his crewmember.
He thought for a moment while I dismissed my runeeye. My vision returned to normal, ghostly parchment fading from sight.
“I suppose we should go have a chat with the queen, Anola. Perhaps she’s come to bargain for your life.
Just as carefully as he carried my birdcage in, the captain lifted me from the table and started toward the docks.
***
Outside the air was heavy as a thick layer of fog slowly pedaled into the port. Things grew hazy as I was able to spot the outline of other ships and the buildings of Perth but little else. The lake hid herself and her threats beneath a billowing cloud of ghosts.
Queen Bon-Hwa stood on the dock with her arms crossed, most of her body hidden beneath a soft red cloak. Her crown remained visible despite the fog’s best efforts to hide everything.
Captain Smee walked down a gangplank as the smell of lakewater and damp wood washed over me. He stopped about 15 feet short of the queen.
“Well, your grace, it’s a surprise to see you here outside my humble vessel. Have you come to threaten me or sink my ship?”
Bon-Hwa shook her head.
“I’m not actually here for you, Captain Smee. I merely decided to take a stroll down to the docks to get some fresh air. Sometimes the palace can be a bit stifling. You’re the one who walked out here to greet me, yes? I didn’t summon you.”
Smee grinned at that.
“How’s that stained glass window in your throne room? I was so sad to see such a lovely work of art destroyed.”
Bon-Hwa’s red-painted lips didn’t betray her with a grimace or even a small frown. She remained perfectly still, cloaked with an impartial expression befitting a ruler whose secrets had secrets.
“There’s no need to worry yourself. Our artisans have repaired it and restored the window to its full glory. I sat beneath it just yesterday holding court.”
“So, if you’re not here for me, can I assume this piskie of yours is free to remain in my. . . let’s call it. . . hospitality?”
Bon-Hwa’s eyes glance down toward me. I did not plead for help but instead stood frozen, measuring my breaths so as not to feed the pirates with a display of fear.
“It’s a curious thing. Our royal pet and apprentice arcanist leave the palace without so much as a note. And then one goes missing and the other appears in a birdcage under your very hand.”
Smee shrugged.
“That IS a curious thing,” was all he offered in the way of response.
And before any more vaguely threatening words could be exchanged, a deafening boom rattled the harbor, displacing the stillness of its mist. A second later, a cannonball took out a chunk of the topmast on Smee’s boat. The Jolly Roger appeared to shutter and groan as wood splinters fell over us like rain, and a crew of pirates shouted and dove for cover.
The captain’s previously calm demeanor faded as he turned to examine the damage to his ship. Another cannon fired in the distance, this time taking out a large window in Smee’s quarters.
“What are you doing?!” Smee snapped at the queen, dropping my cage to the dock. I stumbled forward but managed to stop just before iron bars scorched my face.
The queen cocked her head.
“What do you mean? I’m simply out here to get some air.”
“Bullshit. And the cannon fire tearing my ship to pieces?” Smee yelled.
Queen Bon-Hwa merely rubbed her chin.
“That IS a curious thing,” she said.
A third boom in the distance echoed just before a cannonball killed Starkey, taking off most of his upper body and crashing into the railing. That last shot tore a large hole in the ship’s starboard side.
“Captain! It’s the Scoundrel! I see their flag. The Scoundrel is firing upon us,” one of the crewmembers yelled toward Smee.
He hissed and turned to glance into the fog as a smaller vessel came into view only briefly. The captain ran his fingers through his hair and swore. Then he swore again.
But at last, an idea seemed to dawn on him as he turned to Queen Bon-Hwa with a look of fury.
“You have pirates in your port. Why aren’t you attacking them?!”
“I assure you, Captain Smee, if the pirates fire upon any part of my ships, docks, or city, I will unleash my full wrath upon them.”
“We’re registered merchants docked in YOUR port! Your duty as queen compels you to offer us safe harbor and protection to do business so long as we’re anchored here.”
Queen Bon-Hwa seemed to consider this before shrugging.
“You’re right, Captain Smee. I do owe registered merchants docked in my city protection. Of course, vendors docked in Perth are also required to provide detailed cargo manifests, and I couldn’t help but notice you have yet to turn in any paperwork. As such, before you are issued merchant protections, I’ll need to board and inspect your ship to make sure you’re not carrying contraband. Will you surrender to my inspection?”
I couldn’t help but grin and admire the woman who’d defeated a pirate in her port simply with words. And, perhaps, a shady message to some other pirates who owed her a favor. I watched Smee clench his fists and grind his boots into the wood below. Sweat broke out over his face as more cannon fire pelted his ship.
“Captain! What are your orders?!” a panicked crew member called out.
Smee swore again and stomped his foot.
“Fine. It’s not like I’m leaving empty-handed. I will be departing at once, Queen Bon-Hwa. Thanks for your hospitality,” he said, turning to walk up the gangplank and mercifully forgetting all about my birdcage.
“The pleasure is all mine. Safe sailing and smooth seas, captain,” Bon-Hwa said.
The captain barked orders at his men who flew about the deck in a fury of activity.
“Take us out, Damien! We’ll lose Captain Selena Karmen in the fog. Bank hard to the south. With enough distance, even her felinae huntress won’t be able to hit us.”
I watched with Queen Bon-Hwa as the Jolly Roger took on more fire, returned a few shots that all vanished in the mist, and then faded from our site, just like the Scoundrel, which was, theoretically giving chase. Or maybe it was anchored just offshore. I couldn’t tell in all this fog.
Bon-Hwa fished a brass letter opener from under her cloak and unlatched the door to my birdcage with it. I exited the accursed cage and flew up to her shoulder, taking care not to step on her silky black hair or the red ribbons trailing out from her hair.
“Are you hurt, apprentice arcanist?”
I shook my head.
“Not really. I burned my hands. They’re throbbing a little, but Smee was surprisingly delicate with me.”
Bon-Hwa looked me over closely and said, “He was a decent opponent for a mortal. We’ll have a healer take a look at your hands when we return to Featherstone.”
I nodded.
“Thank you, your grace. The, um, pirates who fired upon Smee? Were those the Scoundrels you asked my teacher to summon?”
She nodded as we turned back toward the palace.
“They are pirates who prey upon other pirates. Their captain also owed me a favor.”
I nodded and found myself gazing at Bon-Hwa with renewed respect and maybe a little awe. Whether she said so or not, I wholeheartedly believe she came out here to guarantee my safe return. At least in part.
She happened to glance over at me.
“Something on your mind?”
I shook my head, not wanting to sound like an idiot.
The queen let out a small grin, and we returned to the palace where I was promptly tackled, hugged, kissed, and scolded by Barsilla.
With the queen otherwise occupied, Barsilla and I flew back to her room where she proceeded to pin me against a wall.
“What is it with you?! The dire crocs weren’t enough of a heart attack for me? You gotta get captured by pirates too?” she yelled.
Her eyes blazed something fierce, but I could tell it was to cover her overwhelming joy that I’d returned safely.
“I had Sierra with me,” I offered, fighting a smile.
“A roasted potato would have been more reassuring company!” Barsilla yelled, tightening her grip on me.
“I’m sorry. I just wanted to help find Pann. Obviously, everything went to shit, but I made it back safe and sound.”
Barsilla jabbed a finger in my face.
“If you EVER do anything stupid like that again, I will have you leashed at my side at all hours of the day.”
When she was finished yelling at me, Figaro took a turn growling and stamping her paw into the ground for several seconds, unloading her frustrations with my lack of planning. It was kind of adorable until she used that paw to pin me to the ground and huff for several minutes.
I sighed. But then I remembered something important and turned to Barsilla once I was allowed to stand again.
“I need you to take me to Featherbrooke,” I said.
***
Flying before Varella, I couldn’t help but realize this entire mess in Faerie began with her attempting to kill me, believing I was a spy. And now, here I was, about to ask if she trusted me for something that might very well get me killed.
Staring at the bedridden queen with my runeeye, I found it easily once more. The speck in her neck.
“I see you’ve regained the use of your wings, little piskie. And I’ve been informed you are now an apprentice arcanist. It seems good fortune has found you at last,” Varella said.
I didn’t want to do this. If she didn’t kill me, it was still going to be gross.
“Your grace. I’ve also gained some use and control over my runeeye. And it has revealed to me what’s blocking your queensglamour from returning.”
Varella fell silent. She turned to everyone in the room and said, “Leave us, please.”
Vyzella, Kit, and Barsilla all did as she requested and shut the door.
“You’re speaking much more boldly than the last time you stood before me,” Varella said. “What’s your theory on while I remain so weak? I’m interested to hear your diagnosis.”
The queen spoke like she didn’t believe me at all. And I frowned, wondering if doing this was entirely necessary. Bon-Hwa seemed to be handling the throne better than I imagined Varella ever could. If it were up to me, I’d leave her in charge.
I sighed. Recalling the parchment I saw in my runeeye and how important the words “Kilgara” and “iron sickness” were. In the coming war amid a destabilized Faerie, Varella’s strength would be needed to preserve this court.
“Do you trust me?” I asked, pulling out a dagger Barsilla had hesitantly given me upon request.
Varella’s grin grew sinister and downright horrifying, her eyes enveloping the very tone a dark queen of Faerie should carry. She sat in her bed, not moving an inch.
“This just got interesting. Do I trust you? Not particularly. But it seems you’re set on a particular course of action. So I’ll give you 30 seconds to do whatever you’re thinking. And after that, if I don’t like your choices, I’ll kill you once and for all. How does that sound?”
Trying not to let my heart rattle so loud that Varella would hear, I simply sighed again and nodded.
“Go ahead, little piskie.”
I flew over to her and landed on the bedridden queen’s collarbone. Steadying myself on her neck, I heard a low laugh escape her lips.
Running my fingers over the tiny piece of iron embedded in Varella’s neck, I flinched. This was going to suck.
Best get it over with, I thought, tightening my grip on the borrowed blade.
I did my best to make a narrow cut in Varella’s neck, and she didn’t flinch or hiss in pain. Nor did she swat me. How many seconds did I have left? Too few to waste on counting.
Gingerly reaching my fingers into the wound and trying not to barf as my stomach did exactly 12 flips, I sucked in a quick breath and braced myself for pain. Blood ran down the queen’s skin and onto my sandals and dress. Still, she did not flinch.
I knew exactly when the fingers on my right hand made contact with the speck of iron. Searing pain raced up and down my fingers. It felt like I’d reached into a grill at a cookout and grabbed one of the hot coals. Only now instead of burgers cooking, it was the palm of my hand.
The blood started to sizzle along with me as I braced my feet against the base of Varella’s neck. And for the first time, she gasped and grimaced.
Not wanting to budge, the iron speck seemed to be actively resisting my pull, and the Raven Queen was starting to sweat as she clenched her fists against the comforter.
Gritting my teeth and grabbing the speck even tighter, I screamed as molten magma threatened to melt through my palm and start roasting each bone in my fingers.
“Get out, you fucking rock!” I yelled, grabbing my torched wrist and pulling with all of my might.
With the sickening pop of a cyst bursting, I yanked the iron pebble free. It was a tiny thing, fitting into even my closed fist. But the pain was too much, and as I fell backward, I lost my grip on the spec. It landed on the floor and clattered over against the wall.
By this time, the door burst open, and in walked Vyzella with wide eyes. I only caught a glimpse as I fell headfirst onto the bed, my hand still smoking.
When I finally righted myself, I noticed my right hand was charred gray.
If there’s one thing I miss about being human, I thought, hissing in pain.
Glancing up at Varella with runeeye, I saw her queensglamour roar back all at once. Her eyes turned solid violet, and the queen’s back straightened.
A wicked grin broke out across her face as she took a deep breath and muttered, “Yes. . . yes! That’s it!”
With little warning, she suddenly stood, and I watched a tidal wave of violet glamour surge through her body like a shower that finally has a full hot water tank to draw from.
The Raven Queen’s eyes finally returned to normal as Vyzella said, “It looks like you’re back in business, as the mortals would say.”
She stretched while Vyzella went and fetched a bandage for her neck and tweezers to grab the speck of iron.
Afterward, Varella picked me up and held me near her face.
“Well done, Anola. It seems you’ve surprised me, after all. With my full strength returning, I can finally return to Featherstone.”
“Happy to have been of service,” I said, still wincing as I held my hand.
“I’m inclined to grant you a boon for your service here today. What favor would you ask of a fae queen?”
I wanted to say lots of things. A fucking soaking tub for my hand. An apology for nearly killing me. An enchanted waffle cone that never ran out of strawberry ice cream. But as that ghostly parchment came to mind, and I thought back on the big picture my runeeye had been slowly revealing to me since my conversation with Captain Smee.
Rolling the dice, I stared at the queen’s now-patient eyes and said, “What I want is for you to make Bon-Hwa queen all the time, not just when you’re incapacitated or away.”
Vyzella audibly gasped, as did Barsilla who just flew into the room. Kit started laughing, and the cat’s chuckle filled the bedroom.
But Varella merely narrowed her eyes.
“I offer you a rare queen’s boon, and you want to use it for someone else? You understand this favor could be used to make you big again, right?”
I looked over at Barsilla with a growing smile and said, “No thanks. It’d be really hard to kiss my girlfriend if I was big again. I chose a life here with Barsilla, the life of a piskie.”
For the first time, I watched the librarian fae tear up and drop her clipboard and pencil. She covered her mouth with her hands and stifled a sob.
Varella raised an eyebrow.
“Even still. Why use your boon to benefit the second-most powerful fae in my court?”
Turning to the Raven Queen, I shrugged.
“I wasn’t aware using a boon required an explanation,” I said. “My reasons are my own, your grace.”
Slowly nodding, Varella turned back to her left-hand lady.
“Barsilla, take a note when you’re able. I want you to deliver an official decree to Bon-Hwa. She will no longer be known as queen-in-command. Henceforth, she’ll simply operate with the title of queen. She will continue to oversee the day-to-day queen’s business, and her authority will have no limits inside the Raven Court unless it directly conflicts with a decree from myself.”
She turned to me again.
“Consider your boon spent. I hope it was worth it, apprentice arcanist.”
I slightly bowed my head.
At that point, Varella looked around the room and realized someone important was missing. She frowned.
“Where is my pet?”
I flinched, images of Sierra being shot and falling through a window suddenly coming back to my mind.
“Oh shit,” I gasped.
“Anola?” Varella asked, looking closer at me.
“Last I saw her, your grace, Sierra was shot with a mortal gun and a silver ball. Smee shot her, and then she fell backward through a window. I haven’t seen her since,” I said.
Rage filled the Raven Queen’s face, and I felt the wind start to pick up outside as the cabin shook.
“Barsilla, we’re returning to Featherstone at once. I want feathers and talons dispatched to search all of Perth. Nobody rests until my pet is found and returned to me.”
A new voice at the door caused us all to turn. We found Bon-Hwa leaning against the doorframe with a scowl on her face.
“I’ve just heard back from Ceras, my queen. There’s no sign of Sierra anywhere. We found a puddle of blood in the middle of some broken glass, but the werewolf hasn’t yet turned up.”
The Raven Queen clenched her fists and ground her teeth.
“Where is Lily? I demand to speak with my wing at once.”
I landed on the bed and stood next to Barsilla, hoping to stay out of the queen’s line of sight. She was practically seething, and my heart was hammering watching her returning glamour storm and rage.
“The spymaster was last seen boarding a boat in the harbor and heading toward the Scoundrel anchored out a way. I think we can conclude she’s already on Sierra’s trail and will find her.”
Varella took a step toward the door and said, “I’m going after them.”
But Vyzella caught her hand.
“Var, listen to me. I know you’ve gotten some strength back for the first time in weeks, and you feel like a wrathful storm once more. But consider your subjects. If they see you reappear for the first time since news of Kilgara arrived, and you’re immediately flying off, it’ll send ripples of doubt and fear through your queendom.”
I watched the Raven Queen stifle a snarl.
“What would you have me do while my pet is wounded and away?”
Bon-Hwa spoke directly enough that I flinched.
“Trust that your spymaster will find and retrieve her. Return to the palace, clean up, and sit the throne for court tomorrow. Reinstate the confidence of your nobles who will then reinstate the confidence of your citizens. News from Faerie is grim right now. Courts are failing with many dissolving into civil wars and rebellions, exactly as the Fist of Kairn wanted. You want to make sure that doesn’t happen here? Announce to everyone you’re alive and ready to defend the Raven Court.”
Taking several deep breaths, I watched the Raven Queen wipe her forehead. She gritted her teeth more but eventually released her fists.
The queen had at last regained her strength, only to now lose her heart. And I watched her warring between telling Bon-Hwa to fuck off while she raced after her pet and understanding her responsibilities as queen.
Varella looked to the floor, and I only heard her mutter a single word.
“. . . Sierra.”
Epilogue
(Sierra)
Everything on my left side hurt, my arms as well. Burning like I hadn’t felt since I grabbed Kit’s wine bowl and scorched the shit out of my fingers. Outside wherever I saw, I heard a deep rumble of thunder. And the floor swayed left and then right.
Of course, I couldn’t move much for some reason.
Whimpering and managing to open a single eye, I detected a single dim torch swaying from the ceiling. The smell of moldy bread and squishy potatoes filled the air around me as I fought not to hurl.
“I think she’s waking up. Go get the captain,” a man said.
I must have passed out for another few minutes before waking up again, realizing that the burning sensation on my arms wasn’t going away. I tried to move and found myself secured in place against a large wooden beam of some kind.
A thin smoke made the room extra hazy. The smoke came from my smoldering flesh, courtesy of silver chains wrapped tight around me.
“Fuck,” I coughed, a bit of blood and drool dripping down my chin.
I’d have scars just above my elbows for the rest of my life. My collar, where I’d been shot, remained open and quite tender. How had it not healed?
Right. . . silver ball in the pistol, I thought. Fucking pirates.
A man’s voice spoke and drew my attention toward him.
“There she is. I was worried you weren’t going to wake up. After two days of sailing, I figured you’d ask for water or food. But you’ve just been down here festering exactly where I left you,” Smee said. “You’re my consolation prize from the Raven Court. And I can only imagine what that bitch queen will offer to get you back. I’m sure the Crocodile King will get something nice.”
Rage coursed through me, and I struggled against the chains.
“You will address her as the Raven Queen,” I growled, eyes snapping open. I ignored the burning in my arms as the three or four pirates in the room laughed at me.
“Calm down. You’re not going anywhere. Those chains are solid silver. We know how to deal with werewolves,” one of the pirates said.
Smee grinned.
“Truly not a bad consolation prize,” he mumbled.
I grimaced and took in a shallow breath. Anger brought me back to the waking world, and I was ready to kill. I’d been shot, hogtied, and had to listen to these shitheads insult my queen. Enough was enough.
A thought occurred to me as I pulled against the chains again. And I started to laugh, manically. The pirates laughed with me. And Smee, the only one who appeared to have any sense, asked, “What’s so funny?”
“Well, you’ve bound me with silver chains, right?”
“Correct. That sizzling of your flesh should make that pretty obvious. I guess there’s no intelligence requirement to be a royal pet,” he said, putting his hands on his hips.
“But no iron chains?”
He narrowed his eyes and slowly shook his head.
“And how many men do you have on this ship?”
“Nine,” he answered, scowling. “Why? Are you thinking about trying to attack us?”
I shook my head.
“Good. Because I’ve got enough to deal with right now. Fucking giant storm outside for starters. The waters leaving the lake you call home and entering the faesea can get pretty choppy sometimes.”
I laughed again.
“Relax, captain. I’m not thinking about trying to attack you. I already made up my mind to slaughter you all. I just needed to know how much help to call.”
And as Smee flinched, I pulled deep on the chunk of queensglamour embedded in my wolfheart as I had while defending Featherstone. Primal rage quaked through me as I threw back my head and let forth an ear-piercing howl in the storage room I’d been imprisoned within.
From the shadows of the room created by the swaying lantern, violet-eyed beasts took form. Rustling dark feathers betrayed their location as a dozen wolves growled in unison.
“What in the name of hell are those?!” one of the pirates shrieked.
“I call them my Black Feather Pack. Kill them all!” I barked as the wolves made of nothing but shadow and obsidian feathers rushed from all corners of the room and tore the pirates into pieces. Smee screamed until one crushed his throat, and I gave a feral cackle watching him bleed to death on the floor.
Over the next few minutes, my wolves freed me, and we worked our way through the ship, killing every person in sight.
The ship swayed violently to the left as another large clap of thunder rocked the boat.
“Fuck, that’s loud,” I muttered, finding my way to the deck.
Rain pelted my face, and the wind whipped my tattered clothing that had gone crusty with my blood over the course of two days.
In the distance, I spotted a massive wave rising in front of the ship. It swallowed my vision as my heart sank, and I looked around for any sign of land. Finding none and hearing the deafening roar of the approaching wave, I thought of a George Clooney film, but the title eluded me.
Looking desperately for the helm, I ran toward the tiller, only to find a single bloody hand remaining attached to the chipped, worn wheel.
“In hindsight, I really should have spared at least one of the pirates to steer the ship,” I muttered.
My black feather pack sat around me, waiting for another command.
“I don’t suppose one of you knows how to steer a ship or navigate, do you?” I asked as the wolves cocked their heads to the side and whinged.
I slowly nodded as that giant wave came crashing down upon the ship.
“Well, fuck.”

2024.04.14 19:37 MyArtPop My Positive MA Experience - 5.5 Weeks

I've never wanted children. I love kids, especially my friends' kids. And my boyfriend is in the same boat as me with this.
(A note about my boyfriend - he was shocked and supportive and feels awful for putting me through this. He thought he was sterile, but it turns out he wasn’t. I always told him if I ever got pregnant, I would go to Planned Parenthood and get the abortion pills. Sub in Hey Jane for PP, but the results are the same. No agony, no regrets. There was a twinge of sadness because we probably would have had kids in another life, but our circumstances are not ideal for raising a family. We shed our tears well over a year ago about this, and we had a few more - not because of our choice but because of the reminder of what could have been in another setting. He’d be a great dad. But there is no grief involved in my decision.)
I’ve been keeping detailed notes on my phone throughout my journey. I got my pills by mail from Hey Jane and took both steps on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. It’s now Sunday, April 14, 2024, and I think I've turned a corner. This morning was rough, but this afternoon has been MUCH better.
I wanted to share what I’ve gone through so far (and will update until I get a negative pregnancy test) in case others are wondering if their experience is within the realm of normal. Everyone is different, but we’re all in this together.
My last cycle began March 3, 2024 and I had a positive pregnancy test on April 7, 2024.
Day 1 Took the first step at 7:04pm Second step right after Laid down. Started to feel chills just about 30 minutes after. Two hours in: still chills, no bleeding. I’ve been cramping all throughout the weeks, so the cramps I’m feeling aren’t anything to write home about. They’re like an average period cramp. Annoying but manageable. Took a shower around the 10pm. I inserted a finger and it came out with some blood on it. 10:30pm: I was getting ready for bed and thought I’d check to see how things were going. My bleeding began in earnest. It was not super dark - actually, lighter than my period is most days. I wore period underwear to bed and doubled up just in case. 1am: I woke up with some pretty intense cramps and went to the bathroom. I felt a sizable clot come out. Probably the size of a grape, very noticeable compared to my period clots, which are much more of a sticky blob than anything round. 2:30am: tossed around for a bit. Went to the bathroom and passed another clot as well as a steady but thin stream of blood. When I wiped, it looked like the heaviest day of my period. 4:15am I slept a bit because I woke up mid-dream. Cramping seems to have subsided. Went to the bathroom again, no clots this time. Just a steady stream of blood. I tried to poop but my body was like “we’ve pushed enough out of us for one night” The most pain I felt was when I was constipated. It was ROUGH. The cramps ranged from like a 3 to a 7. I’ve had waaay worse cramps during my period. I am one of those people who experiences what my college roommate and I called “period butt cramps” where out of nowhere a searing pain courses through your entire anal canal/large intestine and it’s all but impossible to move until it passes. My cramps, while intense, were never like that. My constipation had me on the bathroom floor. Day 2 9am cramps have subsided significantly 10am I saw a clot on my pad that looked a lot like what I’d have during my period. Bleeding is way less now 11:45am much lighter bleeding now. Some cramps here and there 3:30pm finally pooped! I’ve been gassy and crampy here and there. There’s a general uncomfortableness but all in all, better than expected. 5pm bleeding is lighter. Cramps are lighter. Fatigued from the night but in general feeling good. My breasts are still tender 9pm bleeding is very light. Still have some cramps but they’re also light. My boyfriend says I look much better and I’m acting like my usual energetic self. Day 3 I’m told I look much better and I feel a lot more like myself. 8am Minimal bleeding overnight. As light as a light day on my period if not lighter. Noticed a small chunk of tissue when I urinated. It was a light red 11am Some light cramping still and some lower back pain. That might be from sitting in folding chairs for a bit and driving a lot today 12:30 some more small clots/tissue are coming out 7pm mild cramps throughout the day and some small clots, maybe tissue. 10pm my bleeding strongly resembles my period now. Some small clots/tissues come out just about every time I urinate but the coloring and feel is very mid-period Day 4 9am overnight, very light bleeding 10am there’s still a fair amount of blood coming out of me and I think there’s a good deal of tissue too as when it hits the water it doesn’t immediately spread like blood on its own does. My breasts are still tender but less so. Cramps come and go but are not debilitating. 1:45pm I’m bleeding more today than I did yesterday. But it’s thin and bright and less and less clotting so I inserted an ultra tampon to see if I could get more comfortable. 3pm my tampon was full so I switched back to the pad 4:30pm a large clot came out. It made me wonder if there were twins. My aunt had twins so it wouldn’t have been out of the question. Curious, but not sad. There was definitely a lot more bleeding today than I had yesterday. I stayed home and watched movies. I usually walk to my local Starbucks (round trip is 30 minutes) but today I thought driving was the wiser move but that’s very telling of how I’m feeling. 6pm I can feel when the bleeding is coming and so I’m able to get to the toilet 8pm my boyfriend grills a steak for me because he knows I need the iron. My bleeding was steady but bright all day. My cramps were worse than they had been the previous days but I had no trouble falling or staying asleep. Day 5 9am Still bleeding quite a bit. It was moderate, but I’m still amazed at how much blood was coming out of me. Still crampy, but they feel like my period cramps. I also think a good poop would help. I’m glad that I didn’t have the diarrhea side effect, but I’m feeling backed up My overnight period underwear was the most full it had been. Cleaned up and put a pad in some proper underwear to go about my morning 10:30am I pooped! And feel better 11am my pad now would be considered light bleeding. My cramps, persistent though they are, are 3 or 4 out of 10.
1:15pm I went for a 3.5 mile walk and I feel SO much better. I think I've turned a corner. Cramps have subsided significantly as has my bleeding. I was out for 90 minutes and I got home to just a light amount of blood in my pad.
Day 6
9am my overnight underwear had much less bleeding than the previous night. And I finally was able to pass a hefty bowel movement which was much needed. Some mild cramps but nothing major. Still feeling like I’m in recovery (because I am) but a return to my usual day-to-day is definitely on the horizon.
4pm given the light bleeding, I’m trying a tampon again.
8pm another poop! I don’t know if my constipation was directly related to my MA but I have to imagine that it is
Day 7
First time I had zero bleeding overnight. I went through two super tampons throughout the day (9am to 9pm) and had no cramps. My breasts are still tender but my areolas look back to normal.
Unrelated to the abortion, I have a very large zit/blister in my outer labia due to I think excessive friction and a lack of air from wearing pads and overnight underwear. These aren’t uncommon for me as I seem to have overly sensitive skin and if I just look at something greasy I break out.
Day 8
No bleeding overnight again. I had a regular tampon in for most of the morning and then I switched to a super when I left for work in the afternoon and then went back to a regular one for the evening. My bleeding now looks like my period. There’s a lot more brown in the mix whereas up until Sunday it was various shades of red.
I took an at-home pregnancy test and it was still very positive. I might do a blood test next week. I have the high-end tests from Hey Jane but I can’t try one until three weeks from now and my anxious mind wants to know if I’m in the clear. I think I am.
Day 9
My overnight bleeding has all but stopped
9am to 1:15pm my regular tampon was full
Day 10
Overnight I barely bled. This morning I went through a regular tampon
3pm a small clot came out
Day 11
An ultra tampon was soaked overnight
Nothing much on my pad from 9am to 11am. Inserted another ultra tampon at 11am
1:30pm heavy cramping and a full tampon with a clot
Day 12
9am My ultra tampon was full this morning
3pm replaced another ultra tampon
I used another ultra tampon and put one in before going to bed
Day 13
Barely any blood at all this morning. The little bit that was absorbed was very brown and resembled what I call my period dregs.
Day 14
Very light bleeding
Day 15
Very light bleeding
Day 16
No bleeding! First day of no clots, just some spotting.
Day 17
No bleeding! Just some light spotting. My breast tenderness has greatly diminished. I took a pregnancy test (First Response) and while it’s still positive the line is barely perceptible. Unlike last week when it was VERY clear.
I have my annual physical in two weeks so I’ll have my doctor do a blood test then
Days 18 through 24
No symptoms at all. I took a few tests and the line kept getting fainter and fainter.
Day 25
I took a test in the evening and it was negative.
Day 26
I took two tests - First Response and CareOne - first thing in the morning and both were negative.

I'll ETA until I have a negative pregnancy test.
You're all doing great. <3

I did some watercolor sketches of CDMX and the surrounding area while I visited for a week.
This was my second visit to CDMX and I am enamored. I like to bring a sketchbook and watercolors when I travel and make a painting or two every day. Here's what I did on this trip:
1 Casa Azul/Frida Kahlo Museum. Tickets were sold out so I didn't get to visit inside 2 Xochimilco boats 3 A pretty jacaranda in Roma 4 Some Lucha Libre masks 5 A Good Friday procession I happened upon after dinner 6 Tzompantli at the Templo Mayor museum 7 Concert in memory of Charlie Monttana, at El Chopo rock/metal/punk Saturday flea market 8 Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan 9 Palacio de Bellas Artes (this view is from the cafe on the 8th floor of the Sears) 10 An organ grinder (with plush monkey) 11 Voladores about to jump, Chapultepec park near the anthropology museum 12 Palacio Postal, the fanciest post office I've ever seen 13 The artists quarter in Puebla (not CDMX, but charming!)

2024.04.10 22:02 DukeOfDownvote Stitch and glue questions

I’m building a stitch and glue dinghy to use as a tender to a sailboat on a mooring.
Because this is really only used to paddle back and forth about 100 ft from shore to mooring, I’m not the most worried about making the strongest boat possible. It will be stored indoors, but not specifically dried off after each use. because I only sail in the warmer months in a warmer climate, it would be frustrating but not disastrous if my boat were to disintegrate 1/4 of the way to the mooring, the very first time it’s in the water. I would like this to last longer than one season, but whenever it falls apart I can incorporate lessons I learn from this into the next iteration.
With that said, I would like to try to keep costs at an absolute minimum, and use materials that I have on hand, where at all possible. I have a small amount of epoxy, lots of fiberglass, some Titebond, a small amount of topside paint, and some furring strips. I will purchase a sheet of plywood. I’ve outlined the steps I intend to take below, obviously a professional boatbuilder would do this differently, but have I missed anything major?
  1. Chamfer edges of panels with sandpaper to minimize gaps between panels.
  2. Stitch 5mm plywood panels together with zip ties.
  3. Titebond seams not blocked by stitches
  4. Cut stitches, Titebond stitches, 1/4 inch fillet on all internal seams
  5. Dry Titebond for a week indoors
  6. 1/2-3/4 fillet internal seams with thickened epoxy, tape, laminate
  7. Sand small fillet on external seams, no larger than plywood thickness
  8. Tape, laminate exterior seams
  9. Fiberglass bottom of hull, essentially below waterline
  10. Sand lightly to debut/for finish adhesion
  11. Titebond furring strip to gunwhale, clamp well
  12. Tape off furring strips, 1 coat topside paint to everything else
  13. Varnish furring strips, thin coat, less thin coat, full strength coat
So my questions are as follows:
I am attempting to keep the Titebond limited to a small width at the joints, which should keep the joint together while I glass over it. The glass will be much wider than the Titebond, so I am assuming the small loss of bonding area at the corner, and associated loss of strength, will be dwarfed by the strength of the composite on either side. Is this valid?
I am assuming the fiberglass at all seams will seal the ends of the ply there. However, there will be no fiberglass or epoxy on the top (gunwhale) edge of the ply, only paint. Is this sufficient? If I thin the paint beforehand (allowable per paint datasheet) will it wick better into the wood, sealing it better than a full-strength application? Do I need to purchase paint hardener?

Hey all, can anyone tell me the model of this boat?
I figured the make and year. It’s a 1980 & either made by Class 5 Boatworks LLC OR Custom Fiberglass MFG Inc.

2024.04.06 17:28 Mother-Was-A-Hamster During a re-watch I got to wondering, are there any real-life Vicki Stubings out there? That is, do cruise ship captains really live on the ship? And, if so, do they bring their kids along to grow up on a party boat full of horny drunk people?

See test questions at the end…

Here are a few photographs of Jill Whelan. The first one is from 1978 when, at just 11 years old, she became a regular cast member of The Love Boat. The other dates are unconfirmed.
I'm re-watching the series for the first time in several decades. It sure is different now than it was when I was 12 years old. So many risque jokes and situations just flew right over my head back then. It's nothing like I remembered it, and I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around.
For one thing, I actually recognize most of the guest stars now. Scores of character actors board and disembark the ship. It's always a treat when an actor from the golden era appears, like Dorothy Lamour, Dana Andrews, Don Ameche, or Olivia de Havilland.
You can also count on seeing your favorite actors from popular TV shows, like Jim Nabors, John Amos, and Betty White. Lots of recurring characters sail the seas as well. The one I remembered most was Charo, who holds the record for guesting eight times. (This time around, I noticed that a little Charo goes a long way. But binge watching on a streaming service is a lot different from watching one episode a week on network TV. So that's probably the reason her schtick started to get a little grating.)
The A-list guest stars who appear at the peak of their fame are dazzling. Right now, for example, I'm watching Felipe Rose, "The Indian" from The Village People, humorously attempt to mount a horse to race in the Acapulco Steeplechase. This episode aired in 1980, an era during which the group sold more than 100 million records, had three top ten pop hits, toured the world, and sold out Madison Square Garden's 20,789-seat stadium—twice. The Village People were just one of many popular musical guests on the show.
All told, 552 guest stars set a course for adventure on the Pacific Princess. Thirty-three of them either were or would become Oscar winners, including Tom Hanks, a barely recognizable Kathy Bates, Donna Reed, and Red Buttons. And don't forget the two EGOT winners: Helen Hayes and Rita Moreno.
Looking back at that hour of watching The Love Boat from 1977-86, I had virtually no clue what was going on during many of those years. By the time the series ended I was 21, so I was at least a little bit more privy to to the randy storylines. Overall, though, it was a wholesome show that promoted friendship and family values. I'm glad to be able to watch it again today with fresh eyes.

2024.04.04 04:12 No_Pattern3088 Ribeye steak at 135°

Ribeye steak at 135°
Wagyu ribeye from Walmart. I believe they are from Australia. I dry brined it with kosher and Red Boat Fish salt for 12 hours, pre seared on the flattop outside with a steak weight, then cooked sous vide for 2.5 hours. First time trying 135°, and it worked pretty well. Iced and into the fridge for a couple of days. Got home and threw it into the Anova Precision Oven on sous vide mode at 130° for about 1.5 hours. Seared in a hot stainless steel pan with ghee. Smoked out the kitchen. I usually do this outside but it was raining a bit too much. Sliced thin and made a sandwich on grilled ciabatta roll, with lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, avocado, and homemade soy aioli.

2024.04.03 17:40 IntelligentPlant2 Understanding the Constellations of Belief: Neoplatonism and Nominalism in the Online Sphere of Politics. (Schizopost)

Introduction
We live in the 21st century, decades past the age of Enlightenment. We have moved far beyond the birth of reason, of free speech, secularism, empiricism, and the scientific revolution. How is it the case that on social media, antivax sentiments run rampant? Why do foreign policy takes on the right and the left seem to be motivated purely by the disparaging American interests? A naive answer to questions like this is to say that the politically radicalized masses are merely stupid, biased, or bad at research.
If the answer is that simple, why are we continuously surprised, over and over again, with the new subjects of discourse appearing online? After all, it makes sense that stupid people have stupid opinions. While I was writing this, a cargo ship crashed into a bridge in Baltimore.(1) Very quickly, the forces of online extremism came out to explain how it could not possibly just be a boat crashing into a bridge. For example, Andrew Tate claimed it was “cyber attacked.”(2) I am no longer surprised by reactions like this, and neither should you be.
The reason we react with such exasperation to wild claims is not because the content is irrational. It is because our brains have been picking up, very slowly over time, that a pattern exists in the madness. These “constellations of beliefs” are not only predictable, and not only come from rational human thought, but we can also give them a name. When we have a name, we can further investigate history and use this for present-day analysis. I intend to show how the Medieval philosophies of Neoplatonism and Nominalism can help us understand the current state of online discourse.
Part One: Neoplatonism
Instead of beginning with Plato, it is far easier to begin with the relevant actor: St. Augustine of Hippo. Augustine is an interesting character because his ideology shifted throughout his life. First, he was a Manichaean, then a Platonist, and finally a Christian.(3) Manichaeism is a unique philosophy/religion in its own right but I fear in this schizopost I have little space for tangents. The important thing to know is that Augustine moved on from Manichaeism because of “its depiction of God as a divisible, corporeal substance and its conception of evil as an independent reality.”(4)
Platonism is probably more well-known to a common audience. For the Platonists, “knowledge was always and only of the universal, never of a particular thing; when one knew something, one knew it as a universal truth.”(5) And this is where the world of forms arises from. You can see an example of this in the Destiny vs. Sargon of Akkad debate, when they use it to discuss whether “male” or “female” are universal categories.(6) But how does Augustine reconcile Platonism with Christianity? By placing the universal forms within the realm of God.
He believed that when people looked into their minds, they saw Christ himself, and through him “the mind received divine light by which it could know truly. Whether pagan or Christian, people understood and functioned within the world around them, thanks to this special grace of God.”(7) As proof that this schizopost is going somewhere, here is an example where we can gain new insight with all of this background in mind.
In the Destiny vs. Tristan debate, Steven asks the moderator Pedro: What if somebody comes over and says, “I am actually a believer in a religion and I think that a demon has revealed these things to you to mislead you.”(8) What proceeds is a little frustrating, as the moderator seems to avoid the key purpose of the question. He claims that the scriptures contain answers and methods to figure out who is a demon, who is the correct messiah, who is a false prophet, etc. He fails to consider that a demon could have manufactured scripture in the first place. But why? The illumination of Christ from a neoplatonic perspective is his fundamental assumption. If humans had no experience of Christ in their minds, “all they would know was a chaos of phantasms.”(9) In other words, no new knowledge can be created if you have no connection with the world of the universal forms, you will only see shadows. For those who think I am stretching, Pedro himself says earlier to Tristan that “Your job as a debater is to bread-crumb him into the cave of knowledge.”(10) This is a direct reference to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, and his implication is that without Christ, Destiny is incapable of discovering knowledge.
While we can commend Destiny for applying Plato effectively in the Sargon debate, it is surprising that he does not see the same connection when it is so obviously laid out in The Crucible debate with Tristan. This is speculation on my part, but I believe it is no accident. Universal forms are not taken seriously in an explicit way by most people. Of course universal forms do not exist, and this is why we can see that Sargon is stupid for believing something similar. In comparison, The Crucible is composed of explicitly radical actors on the right-wing. Any refutation of their beliefs must be more practical, which why Destiny leaned into the “circular reasoning” approach.(11) But what if I told you that Neoplatonism is the core of 21st century reactionary thought?
I was inspired to write this after reading The Unintended Reformation: How a Religious Revolution Secularized Society by Brad Gregory. In it he explains the issue of “supersessionism,” the belief that “the distant past is assumed to have been left behind, explanatorily important to what immediately succeeded it but not to the present.”(12) For example, if you wanted to research the French Revolution, you might study a century or two before the period in order to gain appropriate context, but you would never assume that a study of Roman Gaul would be necessary. A second consequence of supersessionism is within the realm of ideas. We assume that Neoplatonism is irrelevant in the 21st-century. After all, it evolved into something different in the Middle-ages. Then it transformed again in the Early Modern Period, and again during the Enlightenment. What we are left with is something more correct and applicable to reality, and if it is proven to be incorrect, it will have been left behind entirely… right?
Destiny is assuming in his debate with Sargon that the world of forms has been left behind, a ridiculous philosophy that even moderate conservatives should gawk at. The only ones who seriously believe in it are extremists, radical Christians who can only justify their worldview through circular reasoning. It is a satisfying story but it may just be copium. Let me ask a simple question: What is a woman? As we live past the Enlightenment, we have the benefits of empirical analysis, science, and we have avoided the pitfalls of biblical literalism and other forms of religious dogmatism. Therefore, the process of determining the answer is simple. Do some studies, look at people with microscopes, collect that data, peer review it, and suddenly we will know the answer!
Part Two: The Politics of Epistemological Anxiety
Unfortunately, this process does not help us in the study of human-made concepts. There is no issue if people start to disagree with the definition of “chair” because in all likelihood, we will still have something to sit on at the end of the day. However, the Enlightenment has also given us the concept of human rights. We followed that path to womens’ rights. Science told us that women were just as capable of rational thought as women, so this was acceptable to most people. For racial minorities, science told us essentially the same thing, that we may be different on average but we are still human. The fight for gay rights was a battle between secularism and the church, where we decided that marriage no longer needed spiritual significance. Why trans rights seems to have been a breaking point is that science provides no easy answer.
In practical terms, conservatives do have an easy answer. Matt Walsh’s wife Alissa states, at the end of the documentary What is a Woman, that a woman is an “adult human female.”(13) Let us prevent ourselves for a moment from instinctively attacking the recursive usage of “female” in the definition of “woman” and analyze each word and why they work in unison to sell Walsh’s argument. “Adult” signifies a human-made category which is based on a biological reality. Once someone has entered a certain stage of growth past puberty, they are an adult. But just like for “woman,” there is no satisfying point at which we can all agree a person is an adult. “Human” is yet another category with a biological basis. We know that there is a certain line of DNA that will replicate a “human,” but finding exactly which traits a human has is nearly impossible. Finally, “female” clearly refers to XX chromosomes, but obviously there are certain genetic or hormone disorders which call into question whether the chromosomes themselves are what truly matter. Biology is an aesthetic in each term, because it is a biology that cannot be known by science.
If each part of the definition is so unclear, how is it an easy answer? Because after stating “an adult human female,” she adds, “who needs help opening this” and reaches out a jar for Walsh to open. What ties each loosely defined term together is the practical reality that we know through our own experiences. This is, again, a retreat into the illumination of Christ through one’s own memory. Where we cannot empirically observe, we observe with our memory. If our memories prove to be wrong, this creates the possibility that we might not actually know what a woman is, making us look just as ridiculous as those who failed to answer the question, those who were of the opposite realm of political thought.
Our position on trans rights as liberals is tested so thoroughly because we are in a state of waiting for science to validate our thoughts. It may be easy for us, but from the outside it is unacceptable. Sargon was right, in a way, to state that when the definition of woman is under threat, you have to ask “what is a father and a mother?”(14) This debate, having been livestreamed five years ago, was a foreboding moment in conservative thought. Who could have predicted the reemergence of pick up artistry and dating coaches? Why have we still not moved on from trans discourse?
Part Three: The Constellation of Beliefs
“If you work in a warehouse in Alabama, you still have to have an opinion on whether or not Lia Thomas can be an athlete in college, or whether you work or live in Seattle you need to have an opinion on AOC, or if you live in LA, you need to have an opinion on whether you should support Ukraine or Israel.” -Steven Buscemi.(15)
This is typically how Destiny’s rant about “the constellation of beliefs” goes, and it is a subject he seems to speak about more and more on stream. Shifting from a single kind of discourse to multiple, we can use Neoplatonic thought to understand why these constellations of beliefs exist. If the threat of not knowing how to define “women” necessitates a foundation of belief in memory,(16) any future reference to women in other arguments confers the same baggage. If men face difficulties in the dating world, they can define their way into a solution with more “easy answers.”
In the pre-Internet era, women rejected men. What happens today is much different. Women reject men. The Red-Pill community redefines women and men within the aesthetics of biology and psychology, but fundamentally requires the collective memory of men. Men who have no success with women by definition are lacking knowledge, and the Red-Pill gives them a coherent structure of facts. Liberals struggle to convert members of the manosphere because we appear to reject biology and science. We cannot even define what a woman is, after all. Our solutions create friction with their own memory. Buying into liberal dating advice means admitting that you have exhibited creepy or predatory sexual behaviors. Walter “Fresh” Weekes gave the supposedly ridiculous answer that “thirty to forty to fifty” percent of women in colleges are being flown out to Dubai.(17) Walter is not weighing his personal experience against reality, he is weighing a collective memory against the consequences of either himself or his audience (or both) being incorrect.
The definition of women leads us into the culture wars of “wokeness in media.” Since reactionary conservatives know what a woman is, it only logically follows that Sydney Sweeny’s breasts have destroyed wokeness.(18) Some may even remember the time Dr. Jordan Peterson tweeted, “Sorry. Not beautiful. And no amount of authoritarian tolerance is going to change that” in response to an issue of Sports Illustrated featuring a plus-sized woman on the cover.(19) These reactions are so extreme because forms of media, even fictional, represent reality. A plus-sized woman may have been a woman ten years ago, but today we know she can not be a woman. Conversely, Sydney Sweeny is a woman because of two Ds, not two Xs. This is a moment of projection, because reactionaries assume women for progressives arise from an opposite collective memory. But there is only one reality, and therefore one correct memory. If the woke mafia is correct, Sydney Sweeny is not beautiful, and not a woman.
Part Four: Nominalism, the Devil in the Details
Is there a solution to the constellation of beliefs or are we all doomed? We can start by using Okham’s razor. Many know the definition of this logical strategy but few know its origin.(20) William of Okham was a philosopher who wielded this strategy against universal forms, believing that “Individual things could be known as individual things, that direct, unmediated knowledge of particulars was possible.”(21) In other words, universal concepts are not necessary to explain the world, therefore, we do not require them to make claims about the world. This does not “destroy” universals, however, but in my opinion builds them into becoming more grounded in reality. Most people have trouble defining “chair” without creating tons of exceptions or unsatisfying conclusions (horses are chairs, especially for Vaush). Ockham believes that universals arise out of material experiences. Your definition of anything is a sum total of each material experience with each particular.(22) Therefore, someone who has seen only two chairs will have a much easier time defining a chair than someone who has seen thousands.
A consequence of this logic is that universal concepts are less immaterial. The “magic” is gone if trees are not divinely created from a common starting point. This is less satisfying because your ability to abstract between concepts lessens. Now we can claim that God could have made millions of different worlds, that ours is not special, and that no meaning can be derived by nature.(23) I believe that this philosophy of particulars, called nominalism, is what we ought to follow.
A simple case study is Hasan’s coverage of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital Explosion. Not only does he refuse to change his beliefs when evidence is provided that Israel may not have targeted the hospital, he makes the interesting argument that “Yes it [IDF] absolutely did! You wanna know why I know that? Because they bombed that same hospital two days ago. And also on top of that they told that hospital and six other hospitals to evacuate.”(24) This argument makes perfect sense within the world of universal forms. Israel and the IDF have a special essence, one that we know based on memory, which incentivizes them to engage in horrific war crimes and potentially even genocide. Since this knowledge does not arrive from evidence or empiricism, investigation is not only unnecessary but counterproductive. Claims that the bombing could have come from Hamas or an outside source only distract the fact that Israel bombs hospitals. Hence why radicals assume those skeptical of the leftist narrative are engaging in bad faith and must necessarily be pro-Israel.
Participants of this narrative feel threatened when proven incorrect because, as they see themselves as the philosopher in the cave of knowledge, it is unacceptable if their knowledge of universal forms does not conform to reality. This would mean they know nothing. No one would ever admit to knowing nothing, much less a popular political commentator who paved it on their own. Hasan is not refuting the claim that Israel bombed a hospital, he is refuting the (implicit) claims that his method for identifying truth is insufficient, and that his entire worldview relies on personal experience.
This neoplatonic analysis of radicals explains why Destiny’s opponents constantly refer to him as a “contrarian.” In the recent Candace Owens debate, Destiny makes a statement about how people should decide for themselves through experimentation what works for them, no matter where the right or left pushes them. In response, Owens asks “So you don’t believe in anything… is what you are saying.”(25) A neoplatonist views a nominalist as one of the residents in the cave who only perceives shadows. Of course Destiny has no real prescriptions about how young people should act. He is only capable of perceiving the wrong forms of data, (state/wokeness controlled media) and mistrusts his own experiences and intuition. The result is that he is unable to see the broader picture and connections between concepts which result in knowledge.
If Destiny was a hardcore leftist ideologue, Owens would still disagree, and maybe more violently. However, she would respect his basis of determining truth more than the nominalist Destiny. Since reality only conforms to one memory, he would be proven wrong given enough time. This explains the constant attack “thirty five year old male,”(26) as Owens sees that Destiny lacks growth from personal experience. Destiny is now “stuck” with the mind of a twenty year old college student, just as she believes a college aged woman will grow out of and regret her promiscuity.
Conclusion
At the very least, hopefully I have established the value of pursuing a degree in the humanities. Ancient and Medieval history are not irrelevant to the 21st century, and the sole study of what immediately preceded the present gives us a limited view. Think for a second the guests which populate the Destiny orbit: MrGirl and Dr. Jordan Peterson. Lycan and Dan. Hasan and Rob Noerr. Vaush and Candace Owens. Denizens of the Manosphere and the Antiwork subreddit. Antivaxxers and revolutionary LARPers. Election denialists and Berniebros. Angry gym forum posters and league players. #Metoo accusers and accusees. Sam Seder and Glenn Greenwald. Tradcatholics and Groypers. Progressive Victory and Keffals. How can we hope to understand the philosophies of all these terminally online actors if our starting point is limited to 1900?(27)
Those who follow the neoplatonist philosophy are doomed to perpetually fear their own revelation of knowing nothing. The fundamental driver, not truth, not bias, not corruption or audience capture, is instead closer to imposter syndrome. Remember that each time you discredit an ideologue, you only grow their fear. No wonder a common reaction is to double, triple, and quadruple down. To a nominalist, being wrong once can only mean, by itself, being wrong once. Remember that our opponents need a perfect track record. When they do admit to mistakes, all this means is a recalibration of their universal forms, which is not a threat at all. After all, it takes a while for us to become thirty five years old.
And remember how our opponents see us. We dwell in the cave and only see shadows. Wikipedia, contrarianism, immaturity, debate pedophilia, etc. is the light which casts these shadows. When we are correct, it only happens rarely and by accident because we never have access to the universal form. We must put our opponents on the defense and force them to explain how they were wrong, when they are wrong.
Do not engage in debate with the assumption of a common starting point. Research, empiricism, science, biology, economics, etc. are all flashy phrases which are expendable to an ideologue. Still, these are methods that they value explicitly. Only we value them in practice. The conclusions of studies, the facts in an AP News article, and the exact quotes of politicians are ends to the means. It is not enough to merely find sources which disagree with extremists, we must build credibility from the ground up. Only then do we prove that the world of particulars creates more consistent results than the world of universals.
Prescriptions
These ramblings would have no utility if there were no real world applications. Luckily, I believe that there are. What we are contending with is the idea that political extremists have a fundamentally different way of viewing the world than we do. As such, we need to remove any notions which assume commonality. This will appear insulting at first, so I will remind the reader that tribalism, poor reasoning, and constellations can exist in every human, and you should resist these pulls towards irrationality within yourself just as you resist it while engaging with other humans.
My first piece of advice is to stop being surprised, visibly and audibly, when we see a conclusion that makes no sense to us. This reaction only supports a supersessionist belief that we should have moved on from this type of thinking by now. Clearly, we have not. Rather than being surprised, take a second to build the opinion from start to finish with the neoplatonist worldview. Invite commentators or chatters who disagree with you to explain why at any point this rebuilding is incorrect. Take advantage of the constellations by asking them to explain why their research methods shift depending on the situation.
Bonus meme: A fun idea I had was to reward the fans of an audience which you oppose. After having a major disagreement with another community, make a public statement like this: “I will be giving $100 to the first fan of X who can explain to me, in more rational terms, how to justify X’s belief in Y. I will make sure to only give this reward to someone who has been subscribed for several months, so that no one in my community swoops in to gain the prize.” Embarrassment ensues, either because the commentator will quietly pretend like the more rational argument is what they were saying originally, or they will reject the better explanation. Either way, there is a moment of distrust between commentator and audience. This has issues, such as the community lying in order to get money, but it is worth a shot.
Second, we need to forget the dichotomy that people are either good faith or bad faith in discussions. We may be deceived if a far left political activist has the correct positions on many discourses. As we know, moral luck plays a factor. Rather than thinking “they are right here, and have a good thought process here… but not over there,” it is more correct to say that they never had a correct thought process at all. Remember, supersessionism assumes that rationality, empiricism, and science are the default. How is it fair to apply this standard to someone of a different philosophical foundation?
If a neoplatonist arrives at truth in a different way than us, it would be irrational to think of missteps as originating from either evil or vicious stupidity. A reactionary you debate on twitter might have a degree in biochemical engineering and work every day crunching complex equations and weighing different variables in a hyper rational manner. Nothing is wrong with their brain or their moral compass, as proven by day to day life. What value would you gain by claiming they engage in “bad faith” discussion? The path forward is to explain how your own thought process works, and see when and where differences emerge between each other. By refusing to think of your opponents as bad faith actors, you become more open to understanding their thought process.
Here is something to try during a heated debate instead of playing piano. Reset the conversation by asking a non-politicized research question. For example: “When did the Wright Brothers successfully fly the first airplane?” Assuage them that this is not a trick question, and not for the purpose of condescension. Ask a question that you do not know the answer to. From here, you will both engage in research. If this opponent has mocked you for using wikipedia or google, remind them of this fact as they begin to determine the answer. Ask them for which sources they use, and why.
Most likely, the process is straightforward because the answer is uncontroversial. Whatever answer they come up with, ask them this: “If I find another source which proves the date was four months later, how would you feel?” Again, there should be an alignment. The facts are what matter, if you are wrong, this is a moment to personally grow. Admit the same, that you have no problem being wrong. Now, reset to the original point of discussion.
“If you are wrong, and the Baltimore bridge collapse was not a directed attack on America, how would you feel?” This is dangerous because you are now living through a moment of cognitive dissonance. I will not guess what the reaction is, or even if progress is made in the discussion. At the very least, you should be able to demonstrate your point to the audience. Ideally, you have wielded Ockham’s razor in action. Wokeness in academia, corrupt politicians, media propaganda, western imperialism, the CIA, or Sidney Sweeny’s breasts are not necessary in order to explain the events which happen before our eyes.
I can go into more detail about potential uses for this analysis, but I wanted to keep the post relatively short. Other topics are: How does the internet make this worse? Why do people enjoy living in the world of universals over particulars? What I want the reader to get out of this post over all else is that reading Saint Augustine's Confessions or The City of God is just as relevant research to modern day politics as Israel-Palestine or Immigration research.
