Title. My university does a year of work in between penultimate and final year. I did a completely unrelated internship (in a different industry) in data science and data engineering. I learnt Python, SQL, data analysis skills, cloud technologies etc.
I thought I would go down this career route at the time but I want to go back to chemical engineering. Are my graduate career prospects for chemical engineering dead? It will look odd on my resume that I have these technical data/coding skills/experience rather than engineering experience like all of my peers.

It was requested that I post one of my replies in a new thread so others can learn. I feel like it’s been repeated many times before, but hey, I guess that magnifying glass 🔍 in the top header is harder to use on some. Just know, I’ve learned everything I know just by doing that, searching keywords until it all came together and made sense.
Not to mention, I was motivated AF to get out of the office.
So the original post went something like this: The classic questions…is it illegal, how to go about it undetected, FT or PT, what if deadlines and/or meetings overlap, how do I answer the “why are you leaving J1” questions…yada yada yada.
My reply…that hopefully will calm the nerves of others and maybe shine some light on why we’re crazy to do such an outlandish thing.

We’ve all been where you are now. And let me just say this: nobody, not even IT, is getting paid enough to investigate you.
Yes, OE = more than 1 FT Job. You’ll quickly find out that PT gigs make you do more for less. It’s a trap. Don’t do PT.
Overlap? I’m assuming you’re referring to Teams meetings - always be on mute. Make sure each set up has their own accessories but nothing that’ll flag IT concerning suspicious downloaded software. (Plug usb’s into an external surge protector thing) My meetings overlap often, and I’ve got myself muted listening to both. If I’m asked anything, I calmly take my time to mute the sound of the opposite meeting, unmute myself to answer whatever they want, go back on mute, and again listen in to both. If anxiety will take the best of you, hop on Amazon and find a mute button with a big a$$ bright light that doesn’t require software to download. To be fair, this actually might be the one device you could explain your way out of to IT about software being downloaded. Idk. Share your experience below.
Deadlines on the same day? Personally, I wouldn’t recommend OE for jobs that require a lot of production. But, being the person I am not taking my own advice, this is quite literally my J1. I’m usually up early in the mornings and can knock out about everything needed for J1 between 4:30am - 8am. I know it sounds crazy, but during this time there isn’t anyone bothering me. Kid is asleep, coworkers from J1 aren’t blasting me on Teams, dead zone quiet. By the time 8am rolls around, I can finish whatever is needed from J1 while focusing on the active Teams activities and whatever for J2. From noon til 5, I’m playing Fortnite while all of my mice are on jigglers to keep them moving and my Teams notifications are on full blast volume.
I actually nailed J2 and convinced them I was leaving J1 due to the promise of working remote, but then they took it back. It wasn’t far from the truth actually. I really was about to leave J1. But, they gave me a test drive to work remote and see how it goes. I used this opportunity to go above and beyond hitting my numbers to where they said “as long as you’re hitting those numbers, we don’t GAF what you do.” So, I never cancelled J2 and onboarded during this time. I’ve now found the perfect routine for myself, which includes those early morning hours. Even though technically, I guess I’m on the clock longer, but it really doesn’t feel like it. I’m blowing off the second half of the day kicking some 10 yo butts online.
Keep in mind, the overall culture for OE is this: Why go above and beyond for an employer who wouldn’t do the same for you - just get by with what you need to maintain your presence at both, be mediocre and average, and make twice the salary by working/stressing less.

Blew everyone away HOW DID YOU DO THAT YOU ARE SO DETAILED OMG I NEED TO LEARN FROM YOU etc etc. *pats phone gently

You just hit the lottery. Act like it. Don’t tell a single soul, don’t make it obvious, don’t make the IRS angry, and for the love of Satan DO NOT OE FOR GOVT EMPLOYERS.

*YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE- heaven forbid you land a job that requires you to be active on the socials. For one, I’d say that is NOT the opportunity you want to look for. BUT I get it. Beggars can’t be choosers, so, there’s a hack for that. Your answer needs to be as broad and humiliating as possible to make them feel uncomfortable for asking in the first place..such as “my therapist and case worker have gone to extreme lengths to put my safety first due to a past relationship. If I am to have a social media presence, it has to be vague and limited to past events.” Leave it at that. Girls, this one is your golden ticket. Odu is an important creature to the tribe, being made the stand-in for the queen despite not being a royal. After a Looney Tunes way of dodging attacks that leads to Odu and his troops getting knocked out, they find Sarah in her cell, only to get knocked out by another Danian with a unique design.

They're all captured and held before Odu-Bathax and the Danian. Odu is the one to pass judgement on them. He says he'll let them go, but also wants to punish someone to make sure this doesn't happen again, so he says they have to choose who stays. Kaz is the first one to volunteer himself, but then it becomes an argument so they're taken back to their cell to decide.

We then get introduced to the Danian. This is Wamma, Sarah's man on the inside for the Danian tribe. She helped him out in the past, and now owes her.
After a comment about how Danian's sacrifice each other for benefits, Sarah gets an idea. When brought before Odu again, they elect Sarah to stay before leaving. When it's just her, Wamma and some Mandiblors, Wamma fakes a Hive call, and the distraction is enough for Sarah to grab her scanner and leave.
The episode ends with Tom, Kaz and Sarah back in Chaotic, before finding out Peyton has been captured by the Danians again, leading to the same scenario before fading to black.

Characters:
For an episode focusing on her tribe, Sarah is barely in it. She appears at the beginning, and then doesn't show up until after the half way point. The episode more focuses on the Danians, and the guys trying to rescue her, rather than her. They could of had the episode cut between Tom's match with the Danian player, and Sarah trying to reclaim her scanner and escape from Mount Pillar. It would have given her something to do since the other three have had previous episodes with stuff to do.
Tom has a few moments in this episode. He has the battle in the first half of the episode to teach him how the Danians work, as well as give him another on-screen loss. It's good that the series is keeping up the trend with having the protagonists lose as often as they win to highlight that Tom is still a beginner. His being a scan hog comes back in this episode like it did with the Yokkis episode when he loses sight of the goal to scan new battle gear but he makes up for it by helping find the jail. Something else of note is by the end of the episode he ends with a bad impression of the Danian tribe. We'll see something like this happen again in a later episode with another tribe, but that one gets focus unlike here.
Peyton's experience with the tribe and location helped the group out a lot in this episode. We also saw glimpses of Peyton's comradery with the creatures since a random Mandiblor spots him and says hi before carrying on. Peyton's friendly personality leads to him becoming friends with different creatures, mostly Mipedians as we'll see in another episode. He gets captured in the end, but that's more for a comedic ending.
Kaz doesn't do much in the episode. He is the first one to volunteer staying at Mount Pillar, even if he tries to get out of it. In a previous review, someone pointed out how odd it is that while Kaz plays Underworlders, he doesn't act like one, but is instead more noble and selfish, something more for an Overworlder.

Creatures: In this episode we had two creatures appear in the battle drome, and two named creatures in Perim. Three Danian's and one Overworlder.
This episode is Tangath Toborn's second appearance in the show, and is the first time Tom is seen using him in a drome. From this point onwards, Tangath becomes Tom's secondary ace creature. We'll see him used in more battles, but until season 2, he doesn't have a character of his own.

Lhad is the first Danian creature we see in the battle dromes. His player puts up a good battle against Tangath before activating the Hive, and scoring a final win for the match.

Wamma is Sarah's version of Bodal and H'earring. They're a creature one of the main four is friends with and helps them collect scans for their deck. Wamma makes a few appearances in the show, but not as many as H'earring. Most likely because Danians don't get much attention in the show.

Odu-Bathax is an interesting creature. Another post on here said it best when they pointed out that he's used as a stand-in whenever the leaders of the tribes have a scene together. It makes sense that the queen wouldn't be present, so having an established character like Odu-Bathax take the spot works. What also helps is that they have a unique design to help stand out from the rest of the tribe. While the others are mandiblors resembling ants, Odu is tall, bulky, and has four arms and a personality.

Hota and Junda were seen as card only in the episode, being part of the team with Junda being used to activate the Hive, and Hota being another Mandiblor for Lhad to gain power from.

Final Thoughts:
This was an okay episode. As an introduction to a tribe, it did a good job, showing off it's main mechanic, as well as show us their home and some named characters we'll see appear in the series. As an episode to focus on the cast, it does a poor job giving Sarah something to do when this is her tribe's episode. It was cool that the guys tried to help her, showing that they are friends, despite their personality flaws.
Next episode gives us another match focused episode with the first match between Tom versus Klay in Everything is in Flux.

So I was hired last week and I was told that I would get an onboarding email and to come in the next Monday (yesterday) with my i9 documents. After a couple days, I hadn’t received the email, so I reached out on Thursday to the manager that hired me and he said that he was waiting to hear back on a couple things and would send it on Saturday if everything went well. I never received the email but I went in yesterday anyways. They said that the manager that hired me doesn’t work there anymore, but they had me write down my name and number and a few times this week that I would be able to come in to do onboarding. I got an email this morning that says that they have received my application and there was a link to see the status of my application. When I click the link it says that the job is no longer available. I was told that I was hired so I’m assuming that it’s unavailable because I got it, but I’m a bit worried because the manager that hired me doesn’t work there anymore. If I don’t have the job, I’m going to be quite upset because I turned down other interviews since I accepted this job. Should I wait to see if I get an onboarding email? Male, currently 49 ( but literally applying since 42), overly educated (2 bachelor degrees, 2 master degrees and one extra long term leadership program) with studies funded over time by both the European Commission and the ministry of education in Japan, with a 20+ civil servant career inclusing management roles heading teams from 5 to 300 people, EU citizen based in Eastern Europe. I also have some start up experience (but truth be yold those start ups are more of a couple of learning experiences rather than successfull businesses yet happened in two different countries, with various degrees of knowledge in multiple languages (for instance although I am not able to speak it, combining what I know with using translation software solutions I really am able to email in Dutch, French, Italian, Greek and Japanese).
Have the above profile in mind and feel free to share your input over one simple question: how on Earth is it thag no matter how important or not the job I applied was, in the end I never got anywhere. I am really fed up with recruiters’ ignorance as I literally got reject even for a job of merchendise handler in a supermarket in Belgium with the explanation: my profile is not fit as I am not trilingual and fluent (Dutch, French, English). I could not believe what I was reading. I mean, I managed 309 people for a year and a half in a governmental agency and that recruiter is replying my application telling me a bunch of crap like that .

PASHINYAN: Democracy has indeed become a reality in Armenia. Before the 2018 Velvet Revolution, massive electoral frauds were the usual companion of elections in Armenia. There was no trust among the citizens that there was a real chance for them to elect the government.
Now the situation is totally different; citizens know that they are powerful enough to decide. The two general elections that were held in Armenia after the Velvet Revolution have been acknowledged as democratic, free, and competitive both by the Armenian society and the international community.
Armenia made huge progress in strengthening the democratic institutions, an achievement reflected in reputable democracy indexes:
(a) Now we are the 43rd in the Reporters Without Borders’ Freedom of Speech index, compared to 79th place in 2017.
(b) Categorized as having partially free internet in 2017 by Freedom House, now we enjoy the status of a country with free internet.
(c) In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Armenia is now 62nd instead of 107th in 2017.
(d) In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s democracy index we are 84th compared to 111th in 2017.
In order to assess this progress, it's essential to note that alongside democratic reforms, Armenia has been contending with external security challenges: the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan's invasion of Armenia in 2021 and 2022 and the occupation of over 200 km2 amid inaction by [Russia's] CSTO, the forced displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, have cast doubts among Armenian citizens weather democracy is the right choice. So, democracy needs to prove its efficiency while dealing with security, economic and humanitarian challenges.
We are pleased with the deployment of EU monitoring mission alongside the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and we welcome EU’s decision to expand its capacity. On the other hand, we hope for the inclusion of Armenia into the European Peace Facility and in this regard, we rely on the support of all EU member states [Hungary].
A new set of commitments aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience, state institutions, and addressing the humanitarian needs of refugees has been taken on by the European Union and United States during the high-level meeting on April 5 in Brussels. The rapid and effective implementation of those commitments is of utmost importance.
Despite all the challenges, we believe that the real and most aspiring companion for democracy is lasting and sustainable peace. My government took the share of its responsibility for this. Recently we reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to launch the delimitation of our interstate borders on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991. That means that during the delimitation we should simply reproduce the Soviet-era administrative borders. This is the implementation of the agreement reached in Prague in 2022. Now it is time to incorporate and reflect those agreements in the peace treaty and have it signed.
Another key point for our regional stability is the «Crossroads of Peace», project, initiated by my government. This project implies that Armenia and Azerbaijan restore and open transport and other communications in accordance with the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, and comply with the principles of equality and reciprocity. These elements of the concept were agreed upon during the July 2023 meeting with Ilham Aliyev and Charles Michel. //

REPORTER: [Ex-NATO leader] Anders Fogh Rasmussen called your neighbor an autocracy. You are in a very difficult geopolitical and geographical position. How do you solve the security problem in that environment?
PASHINYAN: I would not like to comment on the internal situation of our neighboring countries. Democracy fully corresponds to the mentality of our people. It is a strategy for our government, it is our political belief, it is also our political identity. The members of our political team have spent most of their lives fighting for democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech. Now we have the opportunity to realize all these values in our country.
The security situation was complicated because of the regional and global situation; the world order is collapsing at the moment. My assessment is, and I have had occasion to say this publicly, that the 2020 war was a prelude to further developments. And now the main issue is security.
What is our strategic point of view, how are we going to guarantee the security of our country? Recently, I gave a speech in our parliament, where I said that the most important tool for ensuring security is a foreign policy based on legitimacy. This is the reason why we so often speak about the 1991 Almaty Declaration.
It is very important that during the 2022 Prague meeting, two very important agreements were reached. Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty on the basis of the Almaty Declaration and will use it as the basis for the border demarcation. This is the reason why I said that we are not drawing a new border, we just need to reproduce the existing one on the ground. This process is happening right now, and I hope that we will continue it steadfastly.
REPORTER: The border conflict that has occurred in recent years has had a negative impact on relations with Russia and Russia's role for Armenia. What would you say about this?
PASHINYAN: Armenia is a member of CSTO. We are officially a CSTO member, but I have announced that we have frozen our participation.
REPORTER: So are you still a member or...?
PASHINYAN: It is a matter for further discussion, but it is very important to record the current situation. A crisis arose in our relations after Azerbaijani troops invaded Armenia, and according to CSTO procedures, the Organization and its member states had to support Armenia in this situation. But even after the formal application, the CSTO refused to take any concrete steps, and in fact, that is the main reason for freezing our participation in the CSTO at all levels.
REPORTER: Do you expect the West to occupy the current vacuum and ensure your security?
PASHINYAN: We are diversifying our foreign relations in all spheres. Now we are developing defense cooperation with India, France, and other countries. We have a certain cooperation with the European Union because as I mentioned, we are happy about the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission on the border. It is a civilian mission but in a way, it is a new factor for the security of our region. This is the first time that the European Union participates in the security agenda of Armenia.
REPORTER: Would you like to become an EU member?
PASHINYAN: We are waiting for the EU's decision to include Armenia in the European Peace Facility. We also hope to start visa liberalization negotiations, and last year I announced in the European Parliament that Armenia is ready to be as close to the European Union as the European Union deems it possible. This is our position.
REPORTER: Can you elaborate on what initiatives Armenia is taking in the fight against corruption?
PASHINYAN: We have made huge progress but have not eradicated corruption from Armenia. We must continue to be persistent in the agenda of democratic reforms. This is the reason why cooperation with the European Union is of utmost importance for us because today the European Union is our main partner in the implementation of our democratic reform agenda. We hope that the European Union, as well as the USA, will increase their support to Armenia in the implementation of democratic reforms, because, as I said, democracy is a strategy for us.
By the way, in 2019 we started a Strategic Dialogue with the USA, and today we see the strengthening of our cooperation with the European Union. We recently had a tripartite meeting with the participation of the USA, EU, and Armenia. It was an unprecedented format, where we adopted a huge agenda of institutional and economic reforms. It is also very important that we receive more tangible support from the EU and the US to address the humanitarian needs of the Nagorno Karabakh refugees because it is a very sensitive and emotional issue for us.
REPORTER: In which year would you like Armenia to become a member of the EU?
PASHINYAN: This year [as soon as possible]. //

former regime continues to hold protests and briefly shut down roads in Yerevan with demands for PM Pashinyan's resignation

Dozens of participants were detained and released the same day for blocking roads. The detentions decreased from 170 on Monday to ~63 on Tuesday. They want Pashinyan to resign or to be impeached. The protest organizers visited universities to gather student supporters, some of whom joined them with a dance. The organizers also stopped by at a bakery where they were given free food.
A felony investigation was launched after a police vehicle, "with the sirens on", struck a reporter on the street. In another instance, an investigation was launched against a protester who brought a long sword. Yesterday the protest co-organizer Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said he received a report suggesting that the Deputy Rector of Yerevan State University supposedly urged deans and others to retaliate against students who joined the protests. Galstanyan said he was unsure whether the report was true, but decided to read it out loud anyway. On Tuesday he rallied his supporters to the backyard of the University where he demanded to speak with the Deputy Rector for clarification.
The Deputy Rector went downstairs and greeted Galstanyan, who shook her hand but wouldn't let it go for an uncomfortably long period, prompting her to ask him to let go of her hand. The Deputy Rector declared that whatever Galstanyan read about her was a defamatory lie.
GALSTANYAN: I never believed it myself.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Then you should not have said out loud something you did not believe.
GALSTANYAN: Listen, there is a recorded fact...
DEPUTY RECTOR: Where is that "recorded fact"?

Georgia passes controversial ‘foreign agents’ bill despite widespread opposition

a new study on mice indicates that more exercise might be better than more sleep for clearing brain of toxins

They injected a dye into a brain and tracked the speed of its movement during sleep and exercise.
The findings show that the clearance of the dye was reduced by 30% in sleeping mice compared with mice that were kept awake. This has not been confirmed on humans yet.
Previous research has suggested that sleep is important for preventing dementia as it is during this time that toxic proteins are cleared from the brain.
