I have a theory that Wicked -- both Maguire's novel (Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, 1995) and more so the musical (Wicked, 2003 Universal Stage Productions) -- solely functions as a prequel to the 1939 MGM film the Wizard of Oz (now owned by WB), and not that film's public domain source novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Let me explain...
Maguire wrote Wicked in 1994 in response to the Gulf War. His clever use of Oz characters passed scrutiny during publication in 1995 under parody and fair use laws, and because the Baum novel had long been in the public domain… as well as Ted Turner arranging to sell the MGM catalog to WB, circa 1997, making the timing ideal for Maguire's novel to skirt any copyright/trademark scrutiny for using elements from the non-public domain film.
We know what happened next, the book was a raging success and soon it was popular enough to be optioned by Universal and turned into a stage musical produced (after film & TV productions with Demi Moore and Salma Hayek separately attached failed to materialize). The musical opened first in San Francisco for try-outs and then Broadway in 2003. And writers Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman liberally peppered even more direct homages and winks to the 1939 film into leitmotifs and other elements of the book, score, and staging.
But, Wicked has TOO many elements from the 1939 film, and NOT ENOUGH from Baum's original book, to merit it being called a prequel to the book (this is also true of Disney’s 2013 admitted attempt to cash-in on Wicked’s success, Oz: the Great and Powerful – which is even more egregious than Wicked, and ironic, as its own title is directly lifted from the 1939 film misquote of the book’s moniker of “Oz the Great and Terrible”).

So now, let's look at some of key differences between the book the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (WWoOZ) and its film adaption from 1939, and how Wicked (and that Disney rip-off - though I don’t want to have to keep mentioning that movie so just assume most of what I say applies there too) reinterprets these events and characters:
- In the book WWoOz it is established that there are four cardinal witches in the land of Oz. Dorothy vanquishes two unrelated Wicked Witches in the East (WWotE) and West (WWotW) as well as encountering the benevolent unnamed good witch of the North at the start of her adventure and a separate good witch, Glinda of the South, who helps her home in the end. MGM condensed the good witches into one character “Glinda the Good Witch of the North” as well as adding a subplot turning the Wicked Witches into sisters (providing Margaret Hamilton’s Witch more direct motivation to pursue Judy Garland’s Dorothy via the Witch’s presumed right to collateral inheritance of her sister’s shoes). Both Maguire and Disney follow the 1939 film’s continuity regarding these relationships making the wicked witches siblings, and Glinda the sole “good witch” in opposition to them.
-WWotW as depicted in Baum’s novel bears little to no resemblance to the green-skinned Margaret Hamilton in the 1939 film, and subsequently Maguire’s Elphaba. Oz illustrator W. W. Denslow, whom Baum worked closely with when designing the characters, depicts the witch as a hunched old hag with three pigtails and an eyepatch, tall brimmed hat, ruffed collar, coat and skirt. While MGM’s design team, led by legendary costumer Adrian, initially tested several looks for WWotW (including a glamorous sequined look inspired by Disney’s Evil Queen in Snow White). MGM screenwriter, Herman Mankiewicz (who expanded the role of the wicked witch from book to screenplay, and wrote several key lines for her including, “I’ll get you my pretty!”) insisted "witches should be ugly!" And Margaret Hamilton’s Witch was given green skin to broadcast her “wickedness” as well as make her face and hands stand-out against her black medieval gown, cloak and sharp brimmed hat. Needless to say this film only element of green-skin becomes a major plot point of Wicked. And Susan Hilferty’s stage designs for Elphaba retain the 1939 film’s silhouette and dark color palette.
-Another difference in Baum’s WWotW is that she only had one eye, but that it "was as powerful as a telescope", and this is how she spies on her enemies. MGM was again inspired by Snow White's Queen, and popular imagery of fortune tellers, giving Hamilton’s Witch the ability to scry in a large crystal ball, which made for some of the most memorable visuals of the film, of her looming eerily over the heroes. Unlike Baum’s WWotW, Maguire’s Elphaba retains vision in both eyes, and inherits her film counterpart's scrying abilities (primarily using a blown-glass orb).
-Baum’s WWotW importantly carries an umbrella, not a broomstick, as a source of protection for her aquaphobia. She has no need for transportation, her location is limited to her castle in the West of Oz. MGM’s script, howvever, gave Hamilton’s Witch a means of transportation that had long been popular in witch mythology, a broomstick, involving her more directly in the narrative (as well as giving the Wizard a macguffin to send Dorothy after). Maguire also chose to make a broomstick a means of travel for Elphaba, and Stephen Schwartz's “Defying Gravity”, the centerpiece of the musical, which sees a scene not included in the novel, where Elphaba defiantly flies over the Emerald City in protest of the Wizard, cemented the broom’s icon status within the framework of the Wicked franchise.
-The Flying Monkeys in Baum’s novel have a rich backstory involving their enslavement at the hands of a sorceress named Gaylette. The monkeys’ terms of imprisonment require they obey three commands given by whomever possess a Golden Cap, which the WWotW owns and uses to capture Dorothy and her friends. Dorothy comes into possession of the Golden Cap after WWotW’s demise (similar to her inheriting the slippers) and is able to command the monkeys to her own benefit later in the book. The Golden Cap subplot was scrapped from the MGM film in favor of giving the witch a more ambiguous command over her uniformed simian air force (though it still appears in the final cut as a prop tossed by Hamilton's Witch to Nikko, the flying monkey). Maguire’s Wicked makes no mention of Baum’s golden cap, giving Elphaba a monkey factotum, similar to MGM’s Nikko, now called Chistrey. The monkeys are given a vivisection backstory in Maguire's novel and are a result of the Grimmerie’s levitation spell in the musical, but Elphaba’s willful command of the their legions, without the limitations of the Golden Cap, is much more reminiscent of MGM’s Witch than Baum’s.
-Famously the slippers Dorothy inherits from the WWotE in Baum’s novel are made of silver metal (sterling silver shoes were popular as decorations and sugar bowls in Baum's day). The Slippers in the 1939 film were famously changed to ruby, so as to be more eye-catching against the technicolor yellow road. After some initial designs, MGM designer Adrian landed on the iconic red sequined pump seen in the film. Maguire’s novel, utilizing the film’s sibling backstory to motivate Elphaba, makes the famous pair of slippers into a sentimental pair of shoes adorned with beaded glass, in the musical referred to as "jeweled", which refract multiple colors, notably ruby red. Susan Hilferty’s choice of silver sequined pumps for the musical, given a red special lighting cue at a crucial moment, distinctly resemble Adrian’s 1939 design.
-Dorothy is a young child of roughly seven or eight years old in Baum’s novel and its illustrations. In Maguire’s take on the character she is depicted as a husky teenager prone to cloying musical outbursts. The famous confrontation between the two witches in Munchkinland was entirely a fabrication of the 1939 film’s screenwriters. The musical’s entire premise, and a large portion of the novel’s, relies on the idea that these two opposing witches shared some past which informs their conflict in that scene, but that moment is solely a product of the 1939 film.

I think the way Maguire skirted copyright is incredibly clever and certainly well within fair-use (and probably long past any statute-of-limitations for any kind of damages sought by WB), but I find it wild that such a popular franchise as Wicked has basically used legal gray areas to bring a rainbow of color to Oz, all while claiming use of public domain versions of characters, and clearly mining the trademarked versions of those characters for most of their inspiration.
TL;DR Wicked does not function as a prequel to the book by L. Frank Baum, but only serves as a prequel to the 1939 film, starring Judy Garland. This is evident because the Witch in Baum's book isn't green, doesn't ride a broom, only has one eye, no sister, and never interacts with Glinda (who is an amalgamation of two separate characters).

I have a Intermatic/HomeSettings HA05 that was accidentally deleted from my MiCasaVerde Verlite without being excluded first.
The manual is almost no help. It says to check the HA07 manual for programming (see page 10).
This openHAB page says to press the program button, I presume while the controller is in exclusion mode. That doesn't seem to work.
I have a second which is still part of the Veralite network and works fine. But I would like to move it to my Home Assistant setup (using a Zooz ZST39). I have tried excluding this via the Mios UI by setting the Vera to exclude (delete device->Unpair) and pressing the button, but it never seems to work. This same exclude process worked for my Jasco/GE wall switches. Perhaps I need to move the module closer to the controller.
Does anyone have experience with the HA05 and know if there is a factory reset, and how to perform it?
Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys,
I just realized that I could use Parsec with my tablet to remote my desktop while laying in bed. I do this with my laptop already and that works great, but to use my tablet I'll need a controller.
I tried tonight with my Bluetooth Nintendo Switch controller, but it doesn't seem to work super well with Parsec. Like half the inputs work fine, but the other half don't seem to register at all. (Tried manually binding each button in the parsec gamepad settings, but a bunch of the buttons just don't register for some reason)
So long story short, just wondering if anyone uses a controller on Android with Parsec to remote play games on PC and has a recommendation for a good controller to use for that purpose. I've been thinking about getting a PS5 controller for certain PC games, maybe that's a good option? Would love to hear what controllers anyone has had good or bad experiences with. :)

Michigan credit union won’t release deposit account to beneficiary (me)
I’m posting here because I’ve reached out to about a dozen lawyers over the last half year and they don’t really seem to listen to my story or know how to help. Usually I hear “hm that’s weird” and that’s about it. This is Wayne county Michigan.
The bank refuses to release his bank account to the beneficiary, me, because there’s a mortgage? Was their justification. That I was paying personally after he died and wasn’t past due. It is now 10 months they’ve been hanging on to it and they still refuse to send me paperwork to accept funds as beneficiary. I also think they withdrew about 1/3 of the funds to pay off a car loan that should’ve gone to probate as a debt. This is a big deal to me because my dad had no life insurance, he died young-ish so it was a big funeral expense (hundreds of people came) about 20k and the only money he left to me was in this account. I had to pay for everything out of pocket and I’m in a lot of debt now paying for the funeral on credit and for his home and bills etc. The repairs on his home have amounted to more than 25k too to pass occupancy inspection so I can sell it. So I incurred a significant amount of debt and interest by not having access to these funds is my point here. (Yes I have my own savings account before people tell me I’m financially irresponsible but I have my own mortgage I need to protect and I’m glad I didn’t drain my cash because I also got laid off 2 months after his death. Happy news though I did find a new job last month)
Someone at the bank confirmed over the phone I was 100% sole beneficiary of his accounts and they need to send me forms to accept funds after they receive the death certificate. I agreed and said fine and also informed them the house was left to me in a lady bird enhanced life estate deed so it would go to my name soon and I understand I would be responsible for mortgage too personally and I would pay it monthly while I tried to sell his house. Fiduciary dept then got involved and blocked my emails to that representative who said I was beneficiary, called me next day and essentially said okay but what about the car loan you need to pay it off. I said well I can give you his car to settle that loan but they wanted me to pay the difference. I said no if there is a debt in his name you can request it through probate like every other debt collector has to. They did not like this and immediately hired a lawyer and told me no one at their credit union would talk to me anymore. This all happened within 2 weeks after his death btw and no payments were past due on anything at this time back in July 2023.
So now I had to talk to this outsourced lawyer who made the claim that the credit union had a right to offset the car loan and they will withdraw the money from the bank account that I said they do not have permission to do. Now please listen to my argument on why I think this does not apply before agreeing with the bank first. For additional context, I am a younger adult female grieving her parents if that gives an idea how the bank viewed me.
490.64 Right to set-off or lien 1. Not applicable because it is not a multiple party account here, all accounts and loans were solely in my dads name only, as the clause says it pertains to. a. "490.64 Right to set-off or lien. Sec. 14. Without qualifying any other statutory right to set-off or lien and subject to any contractual provision, when a party to a multiple-party account is indebted to a credit union, the credit union has a right to set-off against the entire amount of the account." 2. 490.57 https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=MCL-490-57 states that the beneficiary has rights to any remaining sum upon death, not upon offset. Direct from clause: a. EVEN IF this was a multiple party account, they are still violating this state legislature:
"Trust account; beneficial ownership; death of trustee; survivorship. Sec. 7. An account which states that a party is a trustee for 1 or more other identified persons, including but not limited to minors, is a trust account. Except where there is evidence of a trust other than as provided by the form of the account, the account and any sums withdrawn therefrom are presumed to belong beneficially to the trustee until his death. At the death of the trustee or surviving trustee any sums remaining on deposit are presumed to belong to the person or persons named as beneficiaries, if living, or to the survivor of them if 1 or more have died before the trustee."
At this point I don’t just want the funds released to me I want to sue the credit union and make sure they don’t do this to more grieving people. Am I wrong or do I have a right to sue them since I’m not a member? If you made it this far thanks for reading my story.

- The first issue: the credit union feels that the deposit account can be withdrawn from for loans after the member died and before it is transferred to the beneficiary. I think the bank withdrew money from the account belonging to the beneficiary because I got a letter the car loan was paid off which I did not do. The Michigan legislature they reference only says they have the right to do this if account is past due and says nothing about death. It also says it only applies to a multiple party account, and from the definition I believe my dad’s is a single party account because everything was in his name only. There were no co-signers or extra names on any accounts.
- Lastly I think the credit union is violating my rights under the Michigan EPIC act to unreasonably withhold funds a beneficiary is entitled to.

Purpose of these Guidelines
The purpose of this chapter is threefold; 1) to identify the problem of mis-diagnosis of Schizophrenia in adults with trauma-based disorders originating in ritual abuse and trauma-based mind control (we will refer to these hereon as Ritual abuse/mind control traumatic stress), 2) to provide diagnosticians unfamiliar with the clinical presentation of Ritual abuse/mind control traumatic stress with guidelines to facilitate recognition of such cases and to thereby reduce the likelihood of their being mis-diagnosed as Schizophrenia, and 3) to provide diagnosticians experienced with Ritual abuse/mind control traumatic stress with guidelines to facilitate differential diagnosis between such trauma and Schizophrenia in cases with complex clinical features and diagnostic questions.
Mis-diagnosis results in harmful outcomes for ritual abuse and mind control victims in both the mental health and the legal arena. Harmful treatment decisions based on mis-diagnosis include lack of provision of treatment for trauma, incorrect and excessive use of medications, sometimes with severe and irreversible side effects, reinforcement of victims’ fears that they are hopelessly crazy and untreatable, long-term hospitalization, and involuntary hospital commitment. Harmful legal outcomes include incorrect findings of insanity, valid reports of abuse being viewed as delusional within law enforcement investigations and judicial proceedings, and forced conservatorship removing victims’ basic freedoms.
In order to judge the veracity of victims’ reports of these abuses, the clinician must have a basis for understanding what ritual abuse and trauma-based mind control programming are, that they do exist, the kinds of torture endured by victims of these abuses, and familiarity with the most common ritual symbols, artifacts, and holidays utilized by these abuser groups. 1- I am interested in this position because it aligns perfectly with my skills, experiences and career aspirations. I’m a very hardworking and dependable employee who will do any and everything to get my job done the right way. I also love attending to guests needs & starting conversations with them. The opportunity to interact and help them find what they need is something I really enjoy doing & it makes me happy. I have previous knowledge and experience in Retail, I’ve learned about how to provide excellent customer service, managing inventory and maintaining a clean and organized store, im confident that these skills would make me a great fit for this position at target.
2- If a situation turns out unexpected, i’ll try my best to understand what & why the situation occurred & how to better adapt to it.
For Example: if a guest comes up to me complaining & yelling about how a package was delivered to their house but broken, i would NOT scream at them but instead I would try to infuse the situation, i will apologize for what happened & offer them a replacement, after further investigation on what & why it happened. Doing this will keep the customer happy which is what working is about! Keeping the customers happy.
3- i work with people with different perspectives very well, I understand that everyone is different meaning everyone will have their own perspectives & opinions.

I routinely come across this claim made by Palestinians and their supporters both here and on other subreddits and I feel it is past time for it to be properly debunked.
According to Al Jazeera, the Government Media Office (which is Hamas's official mouthpiece in Gaza) claimed that "70% of homes in Gaza were destroyed". The claim made by the Hamas run GMO is regularly misquoted in an attempt to further smear Israel and Pro-Palestinians will often change the claim that "70% of houses in Gaza were destroyed" to "70% of Gaza was destroyed".
Regardless, both claims are completely false.
According to a publication by UNITAR (the United Nations Institute for Training and Research) using data acquired by UNOSAT (The United Nations Satellite Centre), as of March 20th 2024, 35% of all buildings in Gaza have been damaged.
I have put the word damaged in bold to emphasize that damaged is not destroyed.
Using the data provided we can calculate the following:
As for the claim that 70% of housing units were destroyed, according to a report by the World Bank published on March 29th (page 15), 62% of homes in Gaza were damaged or destroyed which is the equivalent to 290,820 units.

While I don't personally trust the UN or World Bank due to their blatant anti-Israel bias, I am using them as sources as they are still significantly more trustworthy than Hamas and they tend to be sources which are unquestionably accepted by pro-Palestinians due to their anti-Israel bias. Hopefully in using sources that pro-Palestinians agree with they will finally stop pushing the lies that I have highlighted here.
Lastly, before parroting talking points that are posted by your favorite media outlets or activist groups you should actually take some time to do some basic research if accuracy and honesty is actually important to you. Everything I have posted here is based off of a combination of two high profile sources and basic math. If even doing that is too much effort to fact check a talking point then it's probably best to find some other topic to opine on.
Edit: Because I know pro-Palestinians will completely ignore the topic of the post and try to derail it rather than apologizing for spreading misinformation I will include the following rule under International Law: Rule 10. Civilian objects are protected against attack, unless and for such time as they are military objectives.

-31,198 structures have been destroyed representing 12.2% of structures in Gaza or 57.8% less than is routinely claimed by pro-Palestinians.
-16,908 structures were severely damaged representing 6.6% of structures in Gaza. Even if we combine destroyed and severely damaged structures in Gaza they only make up 18.8% of structures in Gaza and is 51.2% less than is routinely claimed by pro-Palestinians.
-40,762 structures were moderately damaged representing 16% of structures in Gaza. Even if we combine destroyed and severely/moderately damaged structures in Gaza they only make up 34.8% of structures in Gaza and is 35.2% less than is routinely claimed by pro-Palestinians.

-62% of destroyed or damaged housing units make up a total of 290,820 units.Based on this it would appear that the Hamas GMO is trying to mislead the public by claiming that partially damaged housing units were actually destroyed in its calculations. It should also be noted that the "70% destroyed housing units" claim was made three months before the World Bank report meaning it would have been even more inaccurate at the time it was made.
-100% of housing units in Gaza is 469,064.52.
-221,023.2 housing units in Gaza representing 47.1% of units in Gaza were destroyed or 22.9% less than is claimed by the Hamas run GMO and parroted by pro-Palestinians.
-112,575.4 housing units in Gaza representing 24% of units in Gaza were partially damaged. If we combine destroyed and partially damaged housing units in Gaza they make up 71.1% of housing units in Gaza.

Loss of protection of civilian objects must be read together with the basic rule that only military objectives may be attacked. It follows that when a civilian object is used in such a way that it loses its civilian character and qualifies as a military objective, it is liable to attack.
